Valencia (ES), 7th November 2015. The 2015 BMW M Award goes to: Marc Marquez. The Spaniard was again the fastest qualifier in this MotoGP season and secured the coveted prize for the third time in a row. The BMW M Award has been presented by MotoGP partner BMW M Division annually since 2003. At the end of each season, the winner is rewarded with an exclusive, individually designed BMW M car. The 2015 prize for the fastest qualifier is the new BMW M6 Convertible in a customized special edition.</pp:summary>

This year’s winner’s car is a high-performance car typical of BMW M.
The BMW M6 Convertible is powered by a 560-hp M TwinPower Turbo V8
petrol engine (combined fuel consumption: 10.3 l/100 km; combined CO2
emissions: 239 g/km). The BMW M6 Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100
in an impressive 4.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of (regulated) 250
km/h. Technology characteristics of BMW M, such as the double-clutch
transmission with Drivelogic, the M Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Dynamic
Damper Control, and Active M Differential, guarantee sporty and
perfect handling in any situation. The new BMW M6 Convertible for this
year’s BMW M Award winner is also visually stunning. Highlights
include the exclusive BMW Individual paint finish “Frozen Blue
Metallic”, 20’’ M light alloy wheels double-spoke 343 M with mixed
tyres, BMW Individual full fine-grain Merino leather in “Opal White”,
as well as BMW Individual Piano finish Black interior trims. In
addition, this year’s winner’s car features numerous BMW M Performance Parts.

Winning the BMW M Award for the third time, Marquez drew level with
record holders Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner. The Spaniard is also
the first rider to receive the BMW M Award three times in a row. In
2013, Marquez was the first rookie to win this special classification.
He was crowned fastest qualifier in his debut season in the elite
class. He repeated this success in 2014, and 2015 saw him pick up the
most BMW M Award points in the qualifying sessions once again. Marquez
started from pole position a total of eight times this season, and
with 365 points he claimed the BMW M Award with a clear lead once
again. The official presentation ceremony took place on Saturday at
the final round of the MotoGP in Valencia, Spain. The BMW M6
Convertible was handed over to Marquez by Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of
Dorna Sports, and Frank van Meel, President BMW M Division.

“I am really happy to have won the BMW M Award for third time in a
row,” said Marquez at the prize-giving ceremony in Valencia. “For us
riders, this award is always something special. The BMW M6 is a great
car and I like the acceleration and the handling. The fact that it is
the BMW M6 Convertible makes this prize even more special. It is the
first time that I won a convertible car and for me living in Spain,
this is just perfect. I can’t wait to get in the car and drive it!”

“The BMW M Award is an important part of our long-standing and
successful partnership with BMW M Division,” explained Carmelo
Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports. “It is fantastic that BMW M Division
honours the achievements of our MotoGP riders in the qualifying
sessions in this special way. The BMW M Award has been one of the
highlights of every MotoGP season for 13 years now, and yet BMW M
Division still manages to surpass itself every year. With the BMW M6
Convertible, we have yet another absolutely fascinating
high-performance automobile to present to Marc Marquez.
Congratulations to Marc - I have no doubt that he will also enjoy his
award this year.”

“Marc Marquez already wrote history two years ago when he became the
first rookie to win the BMW M Award. Now he is the first rider to be
entered in the list of winners three times in a row. Many
congratulations on this impressive achievement,” said Frank van Meel,
President BMW M Division. “The BMW M Award is an important pillar of
our comprehensive involvement in MotoGP and when selecting the prize
it is important to us to pick a real highlight each season. I feel
that we have managed this once again with the BMW M6 Convertible. The
fact that the BMW M Award is so coveted by the MotoGP riders, whose
lives are characterised by technological innovation, high performance
and continuously driving at the limit makes us proud. It proves that
our products have exactly these attributes, which is what makes them
so popular with the fastest motorcycle racers in the world. We hope
Marc Marquez enjoys his BMW M6 Convertible and look forward to next
season and the 2016 BMW M Award.”

The BMW M Award was presented for the 13th time in 2015.
Just like the points system for the races, riders at each Grand Prix
weekend are awarded points relative to their positions in qualifying.
Pole position is rewarded with 25 points, second place on the grid
earns 20 points and third place scores 16 points – right down to one
point for 15th. The rider with the most points at the end
of the season wins the BMW M Award. Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and
Casey Stoner are the current record holders, each with three BMW M
Awards to their name – with Marquez being the only rider who has won
three times in a row. His Spanish compatriot Jorge Lorenzo has earned
the coveted title of top qualifier twice so far. Sete Gibernau and
Nicky Hayden have both won the BMW M Award once.

Press Contact: Benjamin Titz
Tel: +43-662-8383-5310
E-mail: benjamin.titz@bmwgroup.com

BMW,Convertible,Concept Vehicles & Design,M6,F12M LCI,Product,BMW M

BMW M GmbH at the 66th Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) from
17 – 27 September 2015 raises the levels of individualisation of this
high-performance coupe to even greater heights. The exclusive
Competition Edition stands for exceptional individuality, thanks to
its special paintwork colours, components made of high-tech carbon
fibre, fine leathers with coordinated contrast stitching and a range
of unusual details. The Competition Edition is available exclusively
for the BMW M6 Coupe with the further honed Competition Package. It
gives the 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology
an output of 441 kW (600 hp) and maximum torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft),
taking the BMW M6 Coupe with the optional M Driverʼs Package to a top
speed of 305 km/h / 189.5 mph (fuel consumption combined: 9.9/100 km /
28.5 mpg; CO2 emissions combined: 231 g/km)*.

The Edition model comes with a choice of two exterior paintwork
colours: dazzling Alpine White and luminous Austin Yellow metallic. In
Alpine White, the BMW M6 Coupe Competition Edition features striking
decorative bodywork stripes in the trademark BMW M colours, as will
also be displayed on the new BMW M6 GT3 race version. Forming an
attractive contrast to both colour options are matt-black 20-inch M
light-alloy wheels in double-spoke 343 M styling with mixed tyres.
Along with the BMW kidney grille, door handles and side gills in black
chrome and the carbon-fibre exterior mirror caps, they accentuate the
extraordinarily sporty and powerful presence of the car. The
carbon-fibre M rear spoiler in conjunction with a rear diffusor made
of the same material serves to optimise airflow.

In the interior, BMW Individual fine-grain Merino full leather in
black with contrast stitching – available in Opal White with Alpine
White paintwork and in Yellow with Austin Yellow metallic paintwork –
highlights the car’s exclusive sporty ambience. “M6 Competition”
lettering in metal on the door sills and in the side gill elements,
along with the lettering on the cupholder lids, is a further signature
feature of the Edition model. The interior trim strips, gear selector
and M sports steering wheel spokes are made from fine, lightweight
carbon fibre, while the steering wheel rim is lined with elegant,
grippy Alcantara.

M multifunction seats for the driver and front passenger and the BMW
Head-Up Display are also part of the equipment range. Guaranteeing an
intense sonic experience, meanwhile, is a choice of the Harman Kardon
Surround Sound System and the High-End Surround Sound System by Bang
& Olufsen with 16 speakers and output of 1,200 watts.

The Competition Edition option is now available to order, starting at
EUR 17,700.
Customers who would like to have their BMW M6 kitted
out with the Competition Edition option also require – in addition to
the Competition Package (EUR 9,500) – 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in
double-spoke 343 M styling painted in matt black and with mixed-size
tyres (EUR 400), multifunction seats for the driver and front
passenger (EUR 1,950) and the smoker’s package (EUR 50). They also
need to decide whether they’d like to enjoy the outstanding audio
experience offered by the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System (EUR
1,290) or the High-End Surround Sound System by Bang & Olufsen
with 16 speakers and output of 1,200 watts (EUR 4,950).

Munich (DE), 15th September 2015. BMW has set a
course for the future in GT racing with the presentation of the newly
developed BMW M6 GT3 at the 66th IAA Cars 2015 in Frankfurt am Main
(DE). The racing version of the BMW M6 Coupe will be sent into action
by numerous private teams from the 2016 season in a host of
championships and renowned race events around the world as part of the
BMW Sports Trophy.

BMW Motorsport has channelled its vast well of experience amassed
since 2010 with the BMW M6 GT3’s successful predecessor, the BMW Z4
GT3, into the development of the new car. Indeed, the new GT3 racer
boasts a raft of improvements, particularly in the areas of
drivability and economy. One example is the use of a series-produced
engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which develops higher output
and an increase in torque. Moreover, with its centrally-positioned
driver’s seat and long wheelbase, the BMW M6 GT3 offers a driving
feeling unparalleled on the racing scene. The net price of the car is
379,000 Euros.

The BMW M6 GT3 weighs less than 1,300 kilograms, and the transaxle
drive concept, sequential six-speed racing gearbox and body
aerodynamics optimised in the BMW wind tunnel also highlight the
imminent arrival of a full-blooded racer from BMW Motorsport in 2016.
The reliability, efficiency and ease of maintenance of the BMW M6 GT3
will likewise be tuned to master the demands of endurance racing, and
its longer wheelbase promises to deliver significantly improved
handling characteristics compared with the BMW Z4 GT3. As well as the
car itself, BMW M6 GT3 customers will also benefit from the service
laid on by BMW Motorsport support engineers and a trackside supply of parts.

In May 2015, ahead of the 24-hour race at the
Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in Germany, BMW Motorsport customers
from around the world were treated to an exclusive first glimpse of
the BMW M6 GT3 – not to mention a detailed presentation of the car by
drivers and engineers – at a “closed room” event at the BMW M
Testcenter Nürburg. The GT racing car was subsequently introduced to
fans of “the most powerful letter in the world” at the traditional M
Night event on the Friday before the classic endurance race in the
“Green Hell”. Customer teams in North America were able to feast their
eyes on the BMW M6 GT3 for the first time at the United SportsCar
Championship (USCC) in Watkins Glen (US), where the racing car was
given its first public appearance on the other side of the Atlantic in
late June. The BMW M6 GT3 was then revealed to teams, drivers and fans
at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in Belgium – the most important
GT race in the world. And now, the car has appeared in BMW Motorsport
racing livery for the first time at the IAA.

The BMW M6 GT3 has undergone an extensive programme of testing on a
variety of circuits over the course of 2015. This has allowed the
experienced BMW works drivers to amass many valuable kilometres at the
wheel of the BMW M6 GT3 and to carry out important work on the
baseline set-up of the new GT and endurance racing challenger. This
new poster car for customer racing is now undergoing a final round of
fine-tuning prior to its race debut in the coming year.

Press Contact: Ingo Lehbrink
Tel: +49-89-382-76003
E-mail: ingo.lehbrink@bmw.de

Events,Motorsport,Sports,M6,BMW M,Product

Munich. In July 2015 BMW M GmbH will replace the
existing Competition Package for the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe
and BMW M6 Convertible with an upgraded version. The new Competition
Package has been developed with a keen eye on enhancing driving
dynamics. It includes a power boost for the 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine
with M TwinPower Turbo technology (BMW M6 Coupe/BMW M6 Gran Coupe/BMW
M6 Convertible: fuel consumption combined: 9.9/9.9/10.3 l/100 km
[28.5/28.5/27.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 231/231/239 g/km)*
of 29 kW/40 hp over the standard unit, to 441 kW/600 hp. Peak torque
also rises, from 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) in standard tune to 700 Nm (516
lb-ft), and is available across an extremely wide rev band – between
1,500 and 6,000 rpm.

New personal best for the BMW M6 Coupe: 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph)
in 11.8 seconds.
The three model variants impress with outstanding performance
when fitted with the new optional Competition Package. For example,
the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is all over in 3.9 seconds in
the BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Gran Coupe or 4.0 seconds in the BMW M6
Convertible. What’s more, the BMW M6 Coupe requires just 11.8 seconds
to power from 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph), making it 0.6 seconds faster to
the mark than with the previous version of the Competition Package
(423 kW/575 hp). The top speed of all Competition models is
electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), but can be stoked to 305
km/h (189 mph) by specifying the optional M Driver’s Package.

The Competition Package includes various measures designed to
appreciably enrich the cars’ handling. Here the same principle applies
as in the development of all BMW M cars: the chassis technology is
tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the powertrain.
The result is maximum performance combined with assured and precisely
controllable responses at all times – even when pushing the dynamic
envelope. To this end, the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars all get
firmer tuning. The Active M Differential on the final drive works with
its own control unit to further improve traction, allowing the driver
to accelerate even more dynamically out of tight corners, for example.
The steering with M-specific Servotronic function has more direct
mapping while the M Dynamic Mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability

BMW M Division, partner of MotoGP
organiser Dorna Sports, presented the next highlight in its MotoGP
involvement at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera (ES)
today: the car to be presented to the winner of the coveted BMW M
Award. Since 2003, the rider with the best qualifying results come the
end of the season has been rewarded with an exclusive, individually
customised BMW M car. This year too, a very special prize awaits the
top MotoGP qualifier: the new BMW M6 Convertible, with individual
extras. The exclusive high-performance car was unveiled today in the
MotoGP paddock at the Circuito de Jerez.

“The BMW M Award is one of the highlights of every MotoGP season –
every rider wants to be the one to receive this outstanding prize at
the end of the year,” emphasised Pau Serracanta, Managing Director of
the Commercial department at Dorna Sports, at the presentation. “The
unveiling of the winner’s car here in Jerez has become an important
tradition for us. The entire MotoGP family is very excited about it,
and BMW M Division has surprised us again this year with a truly
breath-taking car. I am certain that this stunning BMW M6 Convertible
will be a coveted prize among the riders.”

“We are very proud that the BMW M Award is held in such high esteem
within MotoGP,” said Axel Mittler, Head of Cooperation MotoGP at BMW M
Division. “This award is also an important part of our long and
successful partnership with MotoGP. For this reason, it is very
important for us to provide a genuine highlight as the prize each
year. For the 2015 season we opted for our new BMW M6 Convertible,
which enjoyed its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
We now have our fingers crossed for all MotoGP riders in the race for
this year’s BMW M Award.”

The new BMW M6 line-up allows BMW M Division to restate its
leadership in the high-performance luxury segment. The outgoing models
had already set new benchmarks with the flawless balance of power,
efficiency, agility, comfort and luxury that is typical of M models.
And now the latest BMW M6 models, including the new BMW M6
Convertible, are is poised to write a fresh chapter in this success
story, fuelled by an even more finely honed, well-resolved overall
concept. Aboard the new BMW M6 Convertible, the driver experiences the
perfect symbiosis of stunning performance and a refined convertible.
The power comes courtesy of the 560-hp M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol
engine (combined fuel consumption: 10.3 l/100 km; combined CO2
emissions: 239 g/km). The BMW M6 Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100
km/ in an impressive 4.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of (regulated)
250 km/h. Technology characteristic of BMW M, such as the
double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, Dynamic Damper Control,
and Active M Differential, guarantee sporty and perfect handling in
any situation.

The new BMW M6 Convertible for this year’s BMW M Award winner is also
visually stunning. In its exclusive BMW Individual paint finish
“Frozen Blue Metallic”, the convertible looks both ultra-dynamic and
extremely elegant. This imposing appearance is reinforced by the
Double-spoke style 20-inch BMW M light alloy wheels. The interior
features BMW Individual full fine-grain Merino leather in “Opal
White”, as well as BMW Individual interior trims in “Ash Grain White”
real wood.

In 2015, the BMW M Award will be presented for the 13th
time. Just like the points system for the races, riders at each Grand
Prix weekend are awarded points relative to their positions in
qualifying. Pole position is rewarded with 25 points, second place on
the grid earns 20 points and third place scores 16 points – right down
to one point for 15th. The rider with the most points at
the end of the season wins the BMW M Award.

Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner are the current record holders, each
with three BMW M Awards to their name. In 2013, Marc Marquez was
crowned the youngest ever winner of the BMW M Award, and the first
rider to receive this award in his first season at the pinnacle of
motorcycle racing. In 2014, Márquez won the BMW M Award for a second
time. His compatriot Jorge Lorenzo has also earned the coveted title
of top qualifier twice so far. Sete Gibernau and Nicky Hayden have
both won the BMW M Award once.

The BMW M Award is one of the many pillars of BMW M’s long-term
commitment to the pinnacle of motorcycle racing. At the centre of the
partnership with Dorna Sports is the provision of the BMW M fleet.
2015 is BMW M’s 17th season as “Official Car of MotoGP”. This year’s
fleet of official MotoGP vehicles consists of six BMW M and M
Performance models. It is spearheaded by the BMW M4 Coupé Safety Car
with innovative water injection technology. The BMW M4 Coupé, the BMW
M3 and BMW M6 Gran Coupé are also employed as Safety Cars as well. A
BMW M5 is available for the Safety Officer, while the new BMW X5 M and
the BMW M550d xDrive Touring are used as Medical Cars. BMW Motorrad
also provides two BMW S 1000 RRs as Safety Bikes.

Munich. Substantial additions to the BMW engine range
in autumn 2013 are set to lend fresh momentum to the current BMW model
push. In November 2013 another three variants will be added to the
line-up of engines for the most recent addition to the BMW model
family, the BMW 4 Series Coupe. The BMW 435d Coupe will enter the fray
as the most powerful variant of the new two-door model. Its
230 kW/313 hp six-cylinder in-line diesel engine teams up as standard
with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive, which will now
also be available as an option for the BMW 420i Coupe and BMW 420d
Coupe. The BMW 3 Series will also welcome the arrival of an
all-wheel-drive flagship model this autumn in the shape of the BMW
335d xDrive Touring.

A trio of additional engine variants will also join the new BMW X5
line-up in December 2013, including an outstandingly efficient variant
of the luxurious Sports Activity Vehicle. The BMW X5 sDrive25d has a
four-cylinder diesel engine, rear-wheel drive and average fuel
consumption in the EU test cycle of just 5.6 – 5.7 litres per 100
kilometres (50.4 – 49.6 mpg imp), depending on the tyre format selected.

Among the attractive new additions to the equipment offered by a host
of BMW models are the latest new features in the BMW ConnectedDrive
range. Enhancing safety and comfort, for example, are the new Traffic
Jam Assistant and fully automatic BMW Parking Assistant, which will be
introduced in the BMW 5 Series in November this year and in the new
BMW X5 in December.

Sporting elegance and even greater variety: customers can now
choose from six engines for the BMW 4 Series Coupe; five models
available with BMW xDrive.
Its irresistible balance
between aesthetic appeal and dynamic capability marks the BMW 4 Series
Coupe out from the crowd, and the new two-seater also offers customers
a selection of sporty and efficient engines. The output spectrum of
the power units has been broadened once again, with the range poised
to swell to three petrol and three diesel variants from November 2013.
The new entry-level petrol model is the BMW 420i Coupe. Here, a
135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology
teams up with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an eight-speed
automatic as an option. The engine ranks have been expanded by the
arrival of two six-in-line diesel variants with BMW TwinPower Turbo
technology. The unit under the bonnet of the BMW 430d Coupe produces
190 kW/258 hp and sends its power to the rear wheels via a standard
eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 230 kW/313 hp BMW 435d Coupe is
likewise fitted as standard with the eight-speed automatic, but comes
with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. Indeed, the intelligent
all-wheel-drive system is now also offered as an option for the BMW
420i Coupe and BMW 420d Coupe, taking the number of BMW 4 Series Coupe
variants available with all-wheel drive to five.

Alongside the expansion of the engine range, the choice of BMW Lines
for the BMW 4 Series Coupe has now been completed. The BMW Sport Line
and BMW Luxury Line packages already introduced will be joined by the
BMW Modern Line, whose distinctive exterior and interior touches shine
a particularly strong spotlight on the Coupe’s progressive looks. The
stand-out features of the BMW Modern Line include bespoke light-alloy
wheels, Aluminium satinated design elements, the colour shade Oyster
for the seat surfaces, lower section of the instrument panel and roof
liner, a sports leather steering wheel and variable-colour ambient lighting.

New flagship model for the BMW 3 Series Touring: the BMW
335d xDrive Touring.
November 2013 will also see the
premiere of a new flagship model for the BMW 3 Series. Like the BMW
435d Coupe, the BMW 335d xDrive Touring has a six-cylinder in-line
diesel engine developing 230 kW/313 hp to thank for its sporting
performance credentials. And BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, an
eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive also lend the
five-door model compelling dynamics, impressive ride comfort and fuel
economy well beyond the norm in this output class.

The new BMW X5: a fresh dimension in driving pleasure and
efficiency.
Hot on the heels of its market launch, the
addition of another three engines and four new model variants to the
new BMW X5 line-up is set to extend the Sports Activity Vehicle’s
efficiency lead over its rivals. The third-generation X5 will be
available for the first time from December 2013 with a BMW TwinPower
Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine and rear-wheel drive. The engine
powering the new BMW X5 xDrive25d and BMW X5 sDrive25d uses two
turbochargers and common rail direct injection to produce maximum
output of 160 kW/218 hp and links up as standard with an eight-speed
automatic gearbox. The hallmark driving pleasure, eye-catching design,
luxurious ambience and outstanding variability of the SAV can
therefore be enjoyed at the same time as impressively low fuel
consumption and emissions. Average fuel consumption in the EU test
cycle stands at 5.6 – 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (50.4 – 49.6 mpg
imp) for the BMW X5 sDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 149 – 151 g/km) and 5.8
– 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres (48.7 –47.9 mpg imp) for the BMW
X5 xDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 154 – 156 g/km,
figures depending on
the tyre format selected).

Also new to the line-up are the BMW X5 xDrive35i with its
225 kW/306 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and the BMW
X5 xDrive40d, whose straight-six diesel unit develops 230 kW/313 hp.
The new additions take their places alongside the existing BMW
X5 xDrive30d, whose six-cylinder in-line diesel engine produces 190
kW/258 hp, the V8 petrol BMW X5 xDrive50i (330 kW/450 hp) and a BMW M
Performance Automobile – the BMW X5 M50d (280 kW/381 hp).

New and exclusive: the BMW Individual portfolio for the BMW
X5.
In December 2013, model-specific BMW Individual
options will be added to the optional extras already available for all
engine variants of the new BMW X5. These features serve the cause of
exclusive style and meet the highest standards of material selection,
design and build quality. For example, BMW Individual fine-grain
Merino leather trim can be specified for the new BMW X5. complete with
extended features in Criollo Brown and Amaro Brown. Stand-out aspects
of this option include stitching and piping in a contrasting colour
and decorative perforations on the seat surfaces. BMW Individual
interior trim strips are available in two variants: Piano Finish Black
and Sen Light Brown fine wood.

On the outside of the car, 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels
in V-spoke design with mixed tyres help to build an even more
exclusive showcase for the sporting pedigree of the BMW X5. And the
range of exterior paint finishes for the SAV gives customers a still
broader portfolio from which to choose. In addition to the new Mineral
Silver, Glacier Silver and Imperial Blue diamond effect metallic paint
variants, the BMW Individual finishes Ruby Black metallic and Pyrite
Brown metallic will also be available as of December 2013.

More safety, comfort and driving pleasure thanks to BMW
ConnectedDrive: fully automatic Parking Assistant and Driving
Assistant Plus including Traffic Jam Assistant.
The
BMW ConnectedDrive range of features is set to gain even further in
appeal and variety in autumn 2013 with the introduction of a fresh
round of innovations which further enhance comfort, safety and
therefore also driving pleasure. The optional Driving Assistant Plus
system now also includes the Traffic Jam Assistant function, and the
new generation of the BMW Parking Assistant also makes its debut –
likewise on the options list.

Traffic Jam Assistant increases comfort in stop-start situations on
motorways. This system maintains a pre-set distance to the vehicle in
front and slows the car to a standstill. It also actively takes over
the steering, helping the driver to stay in their lane (provided they
are holding the steering wheel with at least one hand). The version of
Driving Assistant Plus with this new auxiliary function will be
available for all BMW 5 Series models from November 2013 and for the
BMW X5 from December 2013.

The fully automatic BMW Parking Assistant – which will be available
for the first time from autumn 2013 – also boasts extended
functionality. This system helps the driver to identify and drive into
parking spaces positioned parallel to the road. The new version of the
Parking Assistant not only carries out the steering movements required
to reverse across into the parking space, it also controls the
accelerator and brake pedal and selects the correct gear – all the
driver has to do is activate the relevant turn signal indicator and
hold down the Parking Assistant button, and the vehicle will glide
fully autonomously into the parking space selected. The fully
automatic Parking Assistant will be available for the BMW 5 Series
Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring from November 2013 and for the new BMW
X5 from December 2013.

Additional BMW Individual special paint finishes for the BMW
M5 and BMW M6.
With the aim of combining outstanding
dynamics with ultra-exclusive looks, additional variants have been
added to the selection of BMW Individual special paint finishes
available for the most powerful high-performance sports cars built by
BMW M GmbH. Joining the range are Frozen Black metallic, Frozen Blue
metallic, Frozen Red metallic and Frozen Brilliant White metallic,
which can all be ordered for the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6
Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe. A sophisticated painting process
used exclusively by the BMW Group lends the surface of vehicles
specified in these paint shades an eye-catching, velvety matt
appearance which richly emphasises the body’s powerful form. In
addition, the BMW Individual special paint finish Frozen Cashmere
Silver metallic is available for all model variants of the BMW M6.

Munich. They are high-performance sports cars, each
with an individual character and all sharing the claim of turning
superior performance attributes into an incomparable driving
experience. In the BMW M5 and in the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible
and BMW M6 Gran Coupe models, race track technology is brought to the
road. The ensuing hallmark M driving characteristics now present
themselves in an even more intense, concentrated and impressive guise.
From July, BMW M GmbH will be offering the Competition Package as an
option for the four most powerful automobiles in the model portfolio.
Its features open up a new dimension of dynamics in customary BMW M style.

The Competition Package was specifically conceived to enhance
handling properties, in adherence to the principle applied to the
development of all BMW M automobiles: fine-tuning the suspension
technology to the performance curve of the engine to bring maximum
performance in line with consistently superlative responses that are
precision-controllable even in highly dynamic driving situations.

The Competition Package boosts output by 11 kW to 423 kW/575 hp in
the high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower turbo technology that
powers the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6
Gran Coupe models. At the same time, the developers at BMW M GmbH have
applied extensive modifications to the chassis set-up. Along with the
suspension and damping systems, the stabiliser bars have also been
more tautly tuned. In the BMW M5 this adjustment has resulted in a
lowering of the car by around 10 millimetres. The potential inherent
in the rear axle design – based on the race-derived principle of the
rear axle subframe being bolted to the body – and the even more
precisely calculated elastokinematics for the front axle are exploited
to the full in the models featuring the Competition Package, with the
aim of enhancing driving precision.

The Active M Differential on the final drive – standard on all models
– is also issued with its own control unit in conjunction with the
Competition Package. In combination with the modified set-up for the
suspension, damping and stabiliser bars, this results in further
improved traction. The new hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering with the
M-specific Servotronic function, moreover, has more direct mapping to
enable firm and secure contact with the road while further increasing
the agility of the vehicle during cornering.

Beyond this, the configuration of the chassis control systems has
been adapted to the specific suspension profile. With the Competition
Package, the M Dynamic mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control)
system is even more acutely geared to sporty handling characteristics.
The package additionally includes exclusively designed 20-inch
M light-alloy wheels along with a sport exhaust system featuring
customary M twin tailpipes in black chrome that lend an unmistakable
sporty note to both the look and the sound of the car.

The further enhanced high-performance profile of the engine, chassis
and sound experience courtesy of the Competition Package also has a
positive impact on the vehicle set-up, which can be configured at the
press of a button by selecting the Comfort, Sport or Sport+ modes.
This makes for an even greater range between a supremely relaxed
driving style and emotion-laden sportiness in the overall set-up of
the relevant model. This more pronounced differentiation is most
noticeable when spontaneously switching the set-up with the help of
the M Drive buttons on the steering wheel.

The contents of the Competition Package make for optimised
performance characteristics in all models, as demonstrated for example
by 0.1 seconds being shaved off the standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph)
sprint time and 0.2 seconds when accelerating from zero to 200 km/h
(124 mph). Cornering dynamics and elasticity are also enhanced –
something that is noticeable in everyday driving but most powerfully
experienced on the race track. In particular in conjunction with the
optional M carbon ceramic brakes, all the driving dynamics attributes
associated with BMW M automobiles are experienced at the highest level.

Press Contact: Benjamin Titz
Tel: +43-662-8383-5310
E-mail: benjamin.titz@bmwgroup.com

M6,M5,Product,BMW M

The scene is now set for the BMW M car driving experience at its most
exclusive. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe high-performance sports car is a
vision of poise and assurance, combining supreme performance with
captivating aesthetics and luxurious elegance. The new BMW M GmbH
flagship is powered by a high-revving V8 engine that boasts
M TwinPower Turbo technology, develops 412 kW/560 hp and propels the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. The
performance characteristics of the car’s engine, its chassis
technology, aerodynamic properties and weight balance – which the
carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof helps to optimise – are
intertwined with hallmark M precision. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe therefore
represents not only a new experience of luxury in an M car, but also
the ultimate expression of the dynamic potential embedded in the BMW 6 Series.

The company’s foray into this new segment of high-performance luxury
four-door coupes provides a window into the passion of the engineers
and designers at BMW M GmbH for creating extraordinary driving
experiences out of the top drawer. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe presents the
finest balance of inspirational design, sports-oriented performance
and luxurious ambience in its class. Its extra interior space allows
two rear passengers to enjoy generous levels of long-distance comfort,
while the rear compartment of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe also offers a
third rear seat suitable for use over shorter journeys.

Design: the beauty of majestic power delivery.

Hallmark M design features influenced directly by technical
considerations – such as cooling air requirements, chassis geometry,
weight balance and aerodynamics – open a clear window into the
performance capability of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The front of the car
is dominated by its large air intakes, standard Adaptive LED
Headlights and an M kidney grille designed especially for this model.
From the side, the first four-door Coupe in the BMW M GmbH ranks is
clearly distinguishable from the BMW M6 Coupe thanks to its rear doors
and 113-millimetre longer wheelbase. The low roofline flowing smoothly
into the rear, the swage line – which takes in the door openers – and
side windows extending well into the C-pillars accentuate the
dynamically stretched silhouette.

Prominently flared wheel arches draw the eye to a track width
specific to the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The characteristic M gills,
aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors, standard BMW Individual
High-gloss Shadow Line package and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy
wheels in double-spoke design underline the car’s distinctive
appearance, as does another M signature – twin exhaust tailpipes
positioned on the outer edges of the rear apron. Also integrated into
the rear apron, and charged with the task of optimising airflow along
the car’s underbody, is a diffuser made from CFRP.

This extremely lightweight, impressively strong high-tech material is
used in the construction of the roof as well. Here, the visible carbon
structure provides an eye-catching feature, as does a dynamic recess
in the centre of the roof. This recess is referenced stylistically
inside the car, the anthracite-coloured Alcantara roof liner gaining a
central section in leather.

Emulating the harmonious blend of athletic prowess and elegance
embodied by the exterior design, the distinctively M cockpit fuses
sports car style with generous levels of space and a luxurious
ambience. The driver and front passenger can look forward to M sports
seats with integral belt guides. And the BMW M6 Gran Coupe’s standard
specification also includes Merino leather upholstery with extended
features. The rear compartment offers two or three seats, the
backrests of which can split and fold down in a ratio of 40 : 60 to
increase boot capacity from 460 to as much as 1,265 litres.

V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, seven-speed
M
Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, Active M Differential.

The powertrain technology under the skin of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
guarantees the performance characteristics for which M Automobiles are
renowned. The V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology produces
412 kW/560 hp. Its technical wizardry includes a pair of twin-scroll
turbochargers, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Direct
Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-Vanos
continuously variable camshaft control. The 4,395 cc unit keeps peak
torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) on tap between 1,500 and
5,750 rpm, while maximum output is developed between 6,000 and
7,000 rpm. The engine revs to a maximum of 7,200 rpm. The BMW M6 Gran
Coupe sprints from
0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds on the
way to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h/155 mph
(305 km/h/189 mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified).
Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 9.9 litres per
100 kilometres (28.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions are 232 grams per kilometre.

Taking care of power transfer is a seven-speed M Double Clutch
Transmission with Drivelogic. The transmission’s electronic management
system ensures the right gear is selected for optimum traction. It
also offers the driver a Launch Control function for maximum
acceleration, Low Speed Assistance for extra comfort and the Auto
Start-Stop function to enhance efficiency.

Under particularly dynamic acceleration out of corners, as well as in
tricky road and weather conditions, the Active M Differential at the
rear axle distributes the engine’s power between the individual wheels
to maximum traction-enhancing effect. Its electronically controlled
multi-disc limited-slip differential works hand-in-hand with the DSC
(Dynamic Stability Control) system and splits drive between the right
and left rear wheels quickly and precisely according to the situation
at hand.

Chassis technology developed to M specification.

The chassis technology of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is also geared to
harnessing the car’s sporting potential in the cause of supreme
performance. Like the integral rear axle, the double-wishbone front
axle has specific kinematics and components made from forged
aluminium. Chassis mountings using large panels ensure dynamic forces
are passed evenly through to the body. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe comes as
standard with an M-specific version of the Dynamic Damper Control
system and hydraulic variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering with the
M Servotronic function.

As an alternative to the standard high-performance compound braking
system, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe can also be ordered with
M carbon-ceramic brakes. Made from a new type of carbon-fibre compound
ceramic, the discs boast even greater resistance to heat, lower weight
and exceptional resistance to wear.

Arranged around the gearshift lever on the centre console of
the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe are the buttons used to configure all the
adjustable powertrain and chassis functions to personal tastes. The
DSC mode,
engine performance characteristics, Dynamic Damper
Control mapping,
M Servotronic responses and M DCT
Drivelogicshift program can be selected independently of each other.
All of which means the driver can put together a detailed set-up and
store those settings on one of the two M Drive buttons on the
multifunction steering wheel.

Exclusive and individual: high-quality range of equipment.

The standard equipment fitted on the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
includes
20-inch M light-alloy wheels, leather trim, heated
driver and front passenger seats, automatically dimming rear-view and
exterior mirrors, an alarm system and the BMW Professional radio with
hi-fi loudspeakers. Available as an alternative to the standard 2-zone
automatic climate control is a 4-zone system with a control panel in
the rear compartment. Among the other highlights of the options list
are M multifunction seats, heated rear seats, Comfort Access, a heated
steering wheel, the Soft Close Automatic function for the doors,
electrically operated sun blinds, the new generation of the
Professional navigation system and a Bang & Olufsen High End
Surround Sound System.

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe also comes with a variety of BMW ConnectedDrive
features, such as an M-specific BMW Head-Up Display, Park Distance
Control, a rear-view camera, High Beam Assistant, Speed Limit Info,
Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Surround View and BMW
Night Vision with pedestrian recognition. Customers can also integrate
their Apple iPhone or other smartphones into the car and make use of

Anniversary of a successful
partnership: when the 2013 MotoGP World Championship gets underway
with the Qatar Grand Prix this weekend, BMW M will be starting its
15th season as “Official Car of MotoGP”. BMW has been involved in
MotoGP since 1999 and provides the official Safety Cars.

The first of many highlights over the course of the anniversary comes
at the opening round, which will be held at the “Losail International
Circuit” in Qatar: the first public outing of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
It is only a few weeks since the latest eagerly-awaited
high-performance coupé from BMW M GmbH was enjoying its world premiere
at the NAIAS in Detroit. This season, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe will
spearhead the fleet of Safety Cars in action in the MotoGP World
Championship. The high-performance BMW M6 Gran Coupe is a premium
product, which combines outstanding performance with captivating
aesthetics and luxurious elegance. The latest top model to emerge from
BMW M GmbH is powered by a high-rev V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo
technology and generating 412 kW/560 hp. It is this power that allows
the BMW M6 Gran Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2
seconds. The engine performance, chassis technology, aerodynamic
properties and balance, which is optimised using components such as
the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic roof, are aligned with the kind of
precision that people have come to expect of M. As such, the BMW M6
Gran Coupe not only offers a new luxury experience in an M vehicle,
but also fully exhausts the dynamic driving potential, which is rooted
in the BMW 6 Series. The Safety Car version of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
has been specially modified for its use as a pace car out on the racetrack.

In total, the fleet of official MotoGP cars for the 2013 season
comprises five BMW M and M Performance models. As well as the BMW M6
Gran Coupe, the BMW M6 Coupe and the BMW M5 will also be in action as
Safety Cars. The Safety Officer will take to the track in a BMW M3
Coupe, while two BMW M550d xDrive Tourings will be used as medical
cars. BMW Motorrad will also provide two new BMW HP4s as Safety Bikes.
You can find more information on the 2013 Safety Car fleet online at
www.bmw-m-safetycar.com.

“We are delighted that our cooperation with MotoGP is already
entering its 15th season,” said Thomas Schemera, Director of Sales and
Marketing at BMW M GmbH. “This shows that Dorna Sports sees us as a
reliable partner when it comes to guaranteeing that practice sessions,
qualifying and races pass safely in the pinnacle of motorcycle racing
– even in the most difficult weather conditions. In return, the
Motorcycle World Championship provides us with the perfect platform.
This allows us to present our high-performance automobiles to a target
group consisting of motorsport enthusiasts who share our passion for
technologically innovative and dynamic sports cars – and that all over
the world. We are particularly proud to be able to run our
high-performance luxury coupe, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, as a Safety Car
in the 2013 season.”

BMW M GmbH’s involvement in MotoGP is not solely restricted to the
Safety Car fleet, but also comprises numerous sales and marketing
campaigns within the Grand Prix environment. The BMW M Hospitality in
the paddock will display MINI, BMW and BMW M automobiles. Visitors
will also receive detailed information on the Grand Prix, riders and
teams. An exclusive VIP sales programme completes the offering in the
BMW M Hospitality. On the BMW M MotoGP Experience, guests spend the
race weekend in the VIP village, thus gaining insights into what goes
on behind the scenes of the Motorcycle World Championship. Among the
highlights of this visitor package are the garage tours with former
world champion and BMW M MotoGP Expert Loris Capirossi (ITA), meetings
with the current crop of riders, and taxi rides in one of the BMW M
Safety Cars.

The BMW M Award is also celebrating an anniversary this year. Since
2003, this award has been presented at the end of the MotoGP season to
the rider with the best overall qualifying record. Among the recent
winners, who receive an exclusive BMW M car for their efforts, are
Valentino Rossi (ITA), Casey Stoner (AUS), Jorge Lorenzo (ESP) and
Nicky Hayden (USA). To mark the tenth anniversary of the award, the
best qualifier this season can look forward to a special highlight –
however, the exact BMW M model will not be revealed until the start of
the European leg of the season in Jerez (ESP) in May.

BMW M GmbH rang in the first grand prix week of the season with an
exclusive M6 event hosted by Alfardan Automobiles, the BMW importer in
Doha. This pre-launch event enabled Qatari national media
representatives and invited customers to be the first to view the
eagerly anticipated BMW M6 Gran Coupe Safety Car. This pace car, to be
deployed on-track for the first time this weekend, was unveiled by BMW
M MotoGP Expert Loris Capirossi. Also present were the BMW M6 Coupe
Safety Car and the BMW M6 Convertible.

set to be presented for the first time as the BMW M6 Gran Coupe joins
the existing Coupe and Convertible models in the line-up. The new
member of the M6 family brings together customary M performance
characteristics with extra helpings of luxury and aesthetic appeal.
The high-revving V8 enginewith M TwinPower Turbo technology and
412 kW/560 hp propels the BMW M6 Gran Coupe from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph)
in 4.2 seconds. And the elegantly sporty lines of the four-door Coupe
are complemented by bespoke features, such as the carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof. The greater interior space of
the BMW M6 Gran Coupe allows two rear passengers to enjoy generous
levels of on-board comfort, and there is also a third rear seat for
use on shorter journeys.

M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, Active M Differential.

Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds on the way to
an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h/155 mph (305 km/h/189
mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified). Average fuel
consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 9.9 litres per 100
kilometres (28.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions are 232 grams per kilometre.

Arranged around the gearshift lever on the centre console of the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe are the buttons used to configure all the adjustable
powertrain and chassis functions to personal tastes. The
DSC mode, engine performance characteristics, Dynamic Damper Control
mapping,M Servotronic responses and M DCT Drivelogic shift program can
be selected independently of each other. All of which means the driver
can put together a detailed set-up and store those settings on one of
the two M Drive buttons on the multifunction steering wheel.

Exclusive and individual: high-quality range of equipment.

The standard equipment fitted on the BMW M6 Gran Coupe includes
20-inch M light-alloy wheels, leather trim, heated driver and front
passenger seats, automatically dimming rear-view and exterior mirrors,
an alarm system and the BMW Professional radio with hi-fi
loudspeakers.

Customers can also integrate
their Apple iPhone or other smartphones into the car and make use of
internet-based services while on board.

Press Contact: Stefan Behr
Tel: +49-89-382-51376
E-mail: stefan.behr@bmw.de

M6,Product,BMW M

Right at the start of the season, the motto is: new rules, new riders and even more powerful machines.</pp:summary>

Munich. One of the factors guaranteeing the success
of the popular racing series is the longstanding cooperation between
BMW M GmbH and MotoGP™ organiser Dorna. BMW M has further
strengthened this close-knit partnership, appointing the new Dorna
MotoGP™ safety consultant Loris Capirossi as the new BMW M
MotoGP™ expert.

The former top-level motorcycle racer from Italy looks back over
extensive experience and boasts a vast knowledge of MotoGP™.
Nicknamed "Capirex" while still an active rider, the Italian
has a highly successful Grand Prix career to his name which stretches
back 22 years, including a total of 328 races and three world
championship titles.

In Loris Capirossi, BMW M has gained the services of an expert with
an in-depth understanding of riders' concerns. He has enormous
expertise in the field of racing competition and a high level of
sensitivity to safety aspects. Based on his extensive know-how,
Capirossi will perform a consultant role as the BMW M MotoGP™
expert for the current world championship series which starts its new
season on the first weekend in April and continues on April 26th 2012
in Jerez (Spain).

"In order to ensure maximum reliability, safety cars have to
function perfectly even under the toughest racing conditions. The
high-performance BMW M vehicles fully meet the requirements that apply
to safety cars on the race track," says Loris Capirossi.

What is more, BMW M will be giving its guests an exciting peek behind
the scenes with the help of the new expert. The ex-world champion will
show invited guests round the MotoGP™ hotspots, taking them to
the team quarters and pits where mechanics and riders put the final
touch on their machines. This kind of tour is undoubtedly one of the
absolute highlights of the new first-class visitor package being
offered by BMW M for the current racing series.

BMW has been involved in the MotoGP™ since 1999 and provides
the official safety cars. In 2006 the partnership was taken over by
BMW M GmbH, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

BMW M automobiles have always embodied the fascination of motor
racing. Sometimes referred to as "the most powerful letter in the
world", M stands for dynamic performance, innovation and
aesthetic appeal in its purest form. The cooperation between BMW M and
Dorna is also founded on these values and has developed into a
trusting and reliable partnership. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna
Sports’, describes the collaboration as "an international
symbol of quality".

Thanks to the support provided by BMW, it has been possible to
significantly enhance the positioning and perception of the motorcycle
road racing world championship. By the same token, BMW M GmbH makes
use of this platform to cultivate top-class international business
relationships, marketing activities and brand communication.

Thomas Schemera, Head of Sales and Marketing with BMW M, says:
"Our involvement in this motor racing event gives us perfect
access to a crucial target group: motorcycle racers with a
predilection for fast cars." And he adds: "The motorcycle
world championship offers fascination, emotion, high-tech and
international flair - all factors which are closely associated with
BMW M. This is another reason why we feel so at home here."

The BMW M GmbH safety cars guarantee safe, reliable race support
during the qualifying rounds and the race itself. In addition to the
safety cars, BMW also provides BMW S 1000 RR safety bikes and various
BMW X models, which are used by the race management and medical
service and also as shuttle vehicles.

In the first half of the season, the new BMW M5 presented last year
at the Grand Prix in Indianapolis/USA will be used as the safety car,
as will the BMW 1 Series M Coupé. They have been optimised
especially for deployment on the race track and for leading a
motorcycle racing field. From the middle of the season, the BMW 1
Series M Coupé will be replaced by the new BMW M6 Coupé.
For further details see: www.bmw-m-safetycar.com

BMW M will also be offering a special MotoGP™ service.
The Event Center in the paddock provides a unique insight into the
world of BMW M, with detailed information on the Grand Prix, riders,
teams and vehicles. An exclusive VIP sales program will also be available.

Finally, the BMW subsidiary will present the BMW M award at the end
of the season. This goes to the rider with the best overall result in
the qualifying rounds. Last year the award went to Casey Stoner, who
was thrilled to receive a BMW 1 Series M Coupé. This year it
will be presented at M Night in Valencia, Spain. The winner can look
forward to a BMW M3 Coupé Competition Edition. The equipment
features of this model include an exclusive exterior paint finish in
Frozen Silver Metallic and a distinctive front design. The
characteristic BMW M front apron and striking exhaust tailpipes
underscore its dynamic appearance. This sporty, elegant styling is
echoed in the interior. Finally, black M3 wheel rims round off the
exclusive special edition.

Press Contact: Stefan Behr
Tel: +49-89-382-51376
E-mail: stefan.behr@bmw.de

Coupé,M6,Product,BMW M

Munich. BMW M GmbH has announced the end of
production of the BMW M6 Coupé and the BMW M6 Convertible. The
two high-performance models provide the most exclusive opportunity to
experience on normal roads the hallmark athleticism of M vehicles
combined with drive and chassis technology inspired by the world of
motor racing. In total 14,152 examples of these high-performance
sports cars were built: 9,087 units of the Coupé, which
launched in 2005; and 5,065 Convertible models, presented the
following year.

With the departure of these two fascinating and exceptional athletes
and the already discontinued fourth-generation BMW M5, production will
now also cease for the unique V10 high-rev engine. For years the
373 kW/507 hp powerplant has set the benchmark for
delivering sheer power in cars that are both highly dynamic in
character and symbolic of the outstanding expertise of BMW M GmbH
in developing high-performance engines. For two years in succession,
2005 and 2006, the ten-cylinder unit took overall victory in the
prestigious Engine of the Year Award, and in the two years that
followed achieved first place on each occasion in the category for
engines with displacement above 4 litres.

The stand-out feature of this unique engine, developed exclusively
for the BMW M5 and BMW M6 models, is power delivery that is both
extremely dynamic and smooth even at higher loads. Output is developed
from a 5-litre displacement split between ten combustion chambers,
with the two banks of cylinders cranked at 90 degrees to one another.
The engine delivers maximum output at 7,750 rpm, with engine speed
eventually peaking at 8,250 rpm, and it has maximum torque of 520 Nm.
In addition to the high-rev concept, a number of other technological
details – electronically-controlled individual throttle valves,
an ionic current control system and lateral force-controlled oil
supply – were also directly derived from motor racing.

In much the same way, design principles of chassis technology and
lightweight construction also found their way from the race track to
the road. In the case of the BMW M6 Coupé, for example, carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) – a material that largely owes
its introduction in the automotive sector to Formula One – was
used in both the roof and bumper design. Its power-to-weight ratio of
3.37 kilograms per hp is another unbeatable key indicator in the
profile of the BMW M6 Coupé. Moreover, its outstanding
performance characteristics are additionally supported by seven-speed
SMG Drivelogic and Launch Control for maximum acceleration from a
standing start, the speed-sensitive variable M differential lock, and
model-specific chassis technology, including Electronic Damper Control
(EDC) and compound brakes. Standstill to 100 km/h acceleration time is
a mere 4.6 seconds. The BMW M6 Convertible takes just
0.2 seconds longer, giving the driver time to appreciate not only
the thrilling dynamic performance but also the irresistible flair of
an open-top premium sports car in the luxury class.

The BMW M6 Coupé and BMW M6 Convertible received worldwide
acclaim as dream cars for automotive enthusiasts with sporting
ambitions. The number one market for both models was the US, which
recorded sales of 3,528 closed and 3,247 open-top vehicles, followed
by Germany (1,183 / 541 units). In third position for sales
of the BMW M6 Coupé came Great Britain and Ireland, with
619 vehicle registrations; in the case of the BMW
M6 Convertible it was Canada, with 209 units sold.

Sales of the BMW M5 followed a similar pattern. The United States
once again came out on top, with sales of 8,786 vehicles. Then,
after the domestic market of Germany (2,473 units), Great Britain
and Ireland generated the next highest demand on the continent of
Europe, with 1,980 vehicles. In total the BMW M5 recorded global
sales of over 20,000 cars in under five years, with current figures of
19,494 units for the BMW M5 Saloon and a further
1,009 units for the BMW M5 Touring, available since 2007.

The total combined figures for the fourth-generation BMW M5 exceed
even those of its predecessor model, which was in production for six
years. With that it has secured the current high point in the success
story of the BMW M5, the first generation of which established the
vehicle segment of high-performance saloons at its introduction in 1984.

Press Contact: Stefan Behr
Tel: +49-89-382-51376
E-mail: stefan.behr@bmw.de

M6,Product,BMW M
