Munich/Cernobbio. As part of the prestigious Concorso
d'Eleganza Villa d'Este at Lake Como, BMW Motorrad unveils its latest
creation for the superbike segment: the BMW Motorrad Concept RR as the
ultimate performance statement in terms of technology and design for
the future generation of BMW RR models.

Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad: "Never before has BMW
Motorrad provided such an early glimpse into a future generation of
the RR models. The BMW Motorrad
Concept RR is a true masterpiece
of our development team, both technically and in terms of design
language. Guided and inspired by the BMW Motorrad factory
superbike
M 1000 RR, with which BMW Motorrad factory rider Toprak
Razgatlioğlu was able to dominantly win the FIM World Superbike
Championship last year, the Concept RR offers a true firework of
superlatives for both street and track use. The transfer from racing
to road has never been shown more clearly. It represents BMW
Motorrad's leadership claim to offer the highest engineering level and
maximum performance in this segment."

Maximum performance, based on the BMW factory superbike.

BMW Motorrad engages in motorsport out of passion and conviction – on
the tracks of the FIM Superbike World Championship as well as in
numerous national and international championships. Every day, the BMW
Motorrad team lives the symbiosis of engineering excellence and an
unyielding drive for top performance anew. This dedication is
reflected in every detail of our superbikes, and the valuable insights
gained from racing are incorporated into our production models.

In terms of propulsion, the BMW Motorrad Concept RR relies on the
water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine of the world champion machine
from the FIM Superbike World Championship, which already delivers more
than 230 hp (169 kW). This promises pure adrenaline in terms of
propulsion and reinforces the leadership claim in the superbike
segment. Accompanying this are the electronic control and regulation
systems that come directly from the WSBK M 1000 RR, such as the engine
management, traction control, and engine brake.

New benchmark in terms of lightweight construction and aerodynamics.

By innovative manufacturing techniques and the use of high-tech
materials such as carbon and aluminum, the BMW Motorrad Concept RR
sets new benchmarks in lightweight construction. From the frame to the
smallest component, every detail is consistently optimized for
lightweight construction and performance. The design also follows this
principle: sharp, purposeful, expressive - with an embossed RR logo on
the tail and an illuminated RR symbol on the downside of the delicate
aluminum tail.

The BMW Motorrad engineers placed special emphasis on aerodynamics,
particularly on the challenging objectives of "riding stability
at very high speeds," "maximum cornering speeds," and
"minimal air resistance for optimal top speed." These
competing goals are realized by the Concept RR through an
unprecedentedly compact package, reduced external attachments, and
enhanced precision of airflow, even through the motorcycle – from the
ventilated front to the monolithic, also ventilated, aerodynamically
optimized rear.

In addition, the concept bike is equipped with an aerodynamically
optimized fairing with integrated winglets and high-performance brakes
– uncompromisingly perfected for ambitious super-sporty use on the
road up to professional racing.

The matching outfit – the jacket Concept RR LTD.

BMW Motorrad has been consistently implementing the claim to make
motorcycling as safe and comfortable as possible with perfectly
designed clothing, while also stylishly shaping the motorcycle
lifestyle with attractive fashion, for more then 45 years. Today, it
offers a comprehensive program of Riders Gear and Casual Wear. Once
again, the maxim for BMW Motorrad is: Make existing things even better
and simultaneously develop new innovative solutions. Accordingly, on
the occasion of the presentation of the
BMW Motorrad Concept RR,
a unique lifestyle jacket was developed:
the Concept RR LTD
jacket, limited to 50 units. A masterpiece made of fine calf Nappa
leather, crafted in cooperation with the traditional Bavarian company
MEINDL, this jacket combines motorsport flair with the highest
craftsmanship and exclusivity.

Press Contact: Dominic Thoennes
Tel: +49-151-601-12378
E-mail: dominic.thoennes@bmwgroup.com

Concept Vehicles & Design,S 1000 RR,K Series,S Series,Product,BMW Motorrad

The new BMW M 1000 RR, BMW S 1000 RR, BMW M 1000 R, and BMW S
1000 R: The superbikes and hyper naked bikes are set to enter the
upcoming season with even more dynamism.
Both the
superbikes M 1000 RR and S 1000 RR, as well as the emotional hyper
naked bikes
M 1000 R and S 1000 R, have been technically and
visually updated and come with expanded standard features for the
upcoming motorcycle season. Common changes include the Euro 5+
homologation of the engines and the inclusion of the M short-stroke
throttle with a reduced rotation angle.

BMW M 1000 RR: Drastically Increased Performance through More
Power, Enhanced Downforce, and Steering Angle Sensor Technology.

The new M 1000 RR – abbreviated as M RR – benefits from a significant
power increase of the inline-four engine by 4 kW (6 hp) to 160 kW (218
hp) thanks to an extensive package of measures.

Additionally, it features optimized aerodynamics through a newly
designed front fairing. The newly constructed M Winglets 3.0, with
drastically increased downforce, support even faster lap times on the
racetrack. Furthermore, the Flex Frame has been further developed and
now includes a new engine mount on the left side.

BMW Motorrad has also made improvements to the control systems. The
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) now features the new Slide Control
function thanks to steering angle sensor technology. This has resulted
in a new subdivision of the DTC into Slip Control and Slide Control.
The introduction of steering angle sensor technology has also led to
the new Brake Slide Assist function of the BMW Race ABS Pro. Combined
with the M short-stroke throttle, this results in significantly
increased performance and control.

As before, the new M RR is offered in two versions: the M 1000 RR
base variant in the primary color Lightwhite uni and the
M 1000
RR M Competition in the primary color Blackstorm metallic, each
combined with graphics in M colors.

BMW S 1000 RR: Even higher track performance and significantly
enhanced standard features.
The S 1000 RR –
abbreviated as Double-R – has been significantly refined, especially
for track use. The M short-stroke throttle allows the S 1000 RR to
respond even more directly to every command at the throttle, new
winglets provide increased downforce, a new front wheel cover with
integrated brake ducts improves brake cooling, and new fairing side
panels offer a more striking design.

Additionally, the standard features of the Double-R have been
significantly enhanced. The Pro riding modes are now standard,
including additional "Race Pro" modes, two more combinations
of throttle response and engine torque, as well as the Engine Brake
and Hill Start Control Pro functions, five-level adjustable ABS in the
"Race Pro" modes, and the ABS setting "Slick." The
Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) is also a new standard feature.

The new S 1000 RR is offered in three attractive color schemes: the
base variant in Blackstorm metallic, the Sport model variant in
Bluestone metallic with matte graphic applications, and the M
Motorsport variant in Lightwhite uni/M Motorsport in combination with
the M package.

BMW M 1000 R: Refinement for the M Hyper Naked
Bike.
For the upcoming season, the M 1000 R –
abbreviated as M R – has received a more dynamic design with the new
dual-flow LED headlight derived from the RR models and the M logo in
the air intake between the headlights.

The new M 1000 R is available as a base variant in the color scheme
Lightwhite uni/M Motorsport and in the new color White Aluminium
metallic matt. In the M Competition equipment variant, this paint is
also available alongside the color scheme Blackstorm metallic/M Motorsport.

In all color schemes, the rear frame and swingarm of the new model
year are in Platinum Grey metallic. The winglets are finished in black
textured paint, and the covers for the clutch and generator are also
coated in black.

The traction control DTC has also been revised. The control strategy
has been derived from the RR models and, in combination with the M
short-stroke throttle, brings a noticeable improvement, especially in
Race mode for track days.

An expanded range of Original BMW Motorrad accessories and special
equipment completes the scope of changes.

BMW S 1000 R: Hyper Naked Bike with increased power and
enhanced standard features.
The hyper naked bike S
1000 R – abbreviated as Single-R – now starts with an even more
powerful inline-four engine, offering 125 kW (170 hp). A shorter final
drive ratio enhances sprint performance. The optimized standard Shift
Assistant Pro supports even smoother gear changes. Combined with the
new M short-stroke throttle, this results in a significantly more
dynamic setup and noticeably better acceleration in all situations.
Additionally, the traction control DTC of the S 1000 R benefits from
the revisions made to the DTC from the M 1000 R, further enhancing its performance.

The new Single-R also receives the new dual-flow LED headlight
derived from the RR models, providing a more striking appearance. The
expanded standard features of the
S 1000 R include the engine
drag torque control (MSR) with configurable "Engine Brake,"
a short license plate holder, a USB-C charging socket under the seat,
and the intelligent emergency call E-Call.

The new Single-R is offered in three attractive color schemes: the
base variant in Blackstorm metallic, the Sport model variant in
Bluefire/Mugiallo Yellow, and in combination with the M package in
Lightwhite uni/M Motorsport.

The new K 1600 models: Six-cylinder fascination for dynamic
and luxurious riding, touring and cruising.
Six-cylinder in-line engines have always belonged to the
showcase drives at BMW. Since 2010, BMW Motorrad offers fascinating
high-performance and luxurious six-cylinder equipment at the highest
level with the K 1600 models. The K 1600 GT
represents the particularly agile, dynamic variant of the six-cylinder
design, while the K 1600 GTL with its more
comfortable ergonomics and standard topcase is more for pleasurable
riding.

The K 1600 B is of a completely different
breed. It provides characteristic “streamlining” with a low rear
section in bagger style. Its motto is “The Spirit of the Open Road”.
It represents elegance, power and luxury on two wheels and allows the
rider to experience every road, every tour and every moment
particularly intensively. Derived from the K 1600 B, the
K 1600 Grand America finally combines the superior
performance of the six-cylinder in-line engine with exclusive
equipment features that make long-distance rides in American highway
cruising style an experience that is as comfortable as it is
fascinating, both alone or with a partner.

Revised six-cylinder in-line engine according to EU-5
regulations with new engine control, knock sensor system and revised
emission concept as well as engine drag torque
control.
For use in the new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand
America, the inspiring six-cylinder engine has been adapted to the
current EU-5 regulations. From a technical point of view, the use of
the BMS-O engine control, two knock sensors and two additional
broadband lambda probes form the centrepiece. In addition to
drastically improved emission values, there are also noticeable
benefits relating to the power and torque of the six-cylinder engine.
The nominal capacity is still 118 kW (160 hp). However, it is now
already achieved at a rotational speed of 6 750 rpm and thus 1 000 rpm
sooner than was formerly the case. In addition, the technical new
features provide an increase of the maximum torque from previously 175
Nm to now 180 Nm at a rotational speed of still 5 250 rpm. Even more
superior pulling power and even more powerful acceleration are the
noticeable positive effects for the rider.

The engine drag torque control (MSR) is another new component.
With it, unstable riding conditions, which can develop in coasting
mode or when shifting down gears due to excessive slip at the rear
wheel, can be reliably avoided.

Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” electronic suspension with fully
automatic load compensation.
The BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” (Electronic
Suspension Adjustment) on the new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand America
enables even higher dimensions in terms of riding safety, performance
and comfort, because damping is automatically adapted to the riding
conditions and manoeuvres, and there is also automatic riding position
compensation in all load states.

Highly modern LED light units and new full LED adaptive headlight.
BMW Motorrad has been a pioneer for decades in terms of safety
when biking. Accordingly, the new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand America
already provide highly modern LED light units as standard. The new
full LED headlight with LED lens technology and iconic daytime riding
light (depending on the market) illuminates the road with an
unrivalled bright, clear light and underlines the prestige claim of
the new six-cylinder models. Another standard component of the
headlight is the swivelling “adaptive headlight” function. With it,
the low-beam LED headlight is turned into the curve according to the
heel angle. Curves are thus almost fully illuminated because the light
is where the motorbike is moving.

In addition, by swivelling the entire headlight unit (±2°), the
vehicle dynamic states (braking, accelerating) are automatically
controlled and optimum illumination is ensured at all times. In

Munich.
Model year 2017 will see a number of model facelift measures.

Keyless Ride new for R 1200 GS / GS Adventure, R 1200 RT and
K 1600 GT / GTL for maximum user-friendliness.

For the first time, the BMW Motorrad Keyless Ride System now
optionally replaces the conventional ignition lock in the R 1200 GS /
GS Adventure, the R 1200 RT and the K 1600 GT / GTL. This means that
it is no longer necessary to use a regular key. Unlocking and locking
of the steering lock, ignition, fuel filler flap and storage
compartments (R 1200 RT and K 1600 GT / GTL) is carried out using a
transponder integrated in the key. The key can therefore remain in the
rider's clothes, for example.

As soon as the key is located within the vehicle reception area
(distance < 2 metres), the steering lock can be briefly unlocked
after successful authentication by briefly pressing the button. The
steering lock is locked by keeping the button pressed down and placing
the handlebars in end position. The ignition is activated by briefly
pressing the button or keeping the button pressed down after releasing
the steering lock. The ignition is switched off by means of a short or
long press of the button. To open the fuel tank, the lever of the fuel
filler flap is simply raised. The fuel filler flap can be opened when
the motorcycle has been electrically unlocked. The fuel tank is closed
by simply pressing the fuel filler flap shut. The alarm system (DWA)
is automatically activated when the ignition is switched off and the
steering lock is closed, as soon as the key leaves the reception area.
However, the alarm system can also be activated manually.

Shift Assistant Pro for gear shifts virtually without torque
interrupt as a new special equipment feature for the R 1200 GS / GS Adventure.

The Shift Assistant Pro enables the rider to shift up and down
without activating the clutch or throttle valve in the relevant load
and engine speed ranges, giving the rider additional comfort as well
as increased dynamic performance. Most shifts can be carried out using
the shift assistant; one exception here is setting off, for example.

When accelerating, the throttle valve no longer has to be closed for
shifts, so propulsion power is virtually constant without torque
interrupt. When decelerating and shifting down (throttle valve
closed), the engine speed is automatically adapted by means of
double-declutching. Gears are engaged as usual by means of the gear
pedal. Shift time is significantly reduced as compared to a gearshift
using the clutch. However, the Shift Assistant Pro is not an automatic
transmission, it simply provides gear shift support. When the Shift
Assistant Pro is used for gear shifts, the cruise control is
deactivated for safety reasons.
Munich. A number of model updates will be integrated
in the BMW Motorrad program for the model year 2013.The models will be
available for order in the new configuration at all BMW Motorrad
dealerships from August 2012.

BMW Motorrad ABS available as standard in all models worldwide.

As a leading motorcycle manufacturer, BMW Motorrad has always been
aware of its social responsibility in connection with motorcycling
safety. In 1988 the company presented the world's first serial
production motorcycles with the antilock brake system ABS - the most
effective technical safety bonus to this day. Now follows the next
logical step: as of the model year 2013, BMW Motorrad will be
the first manufacturer in the world to provide ABS in all models as
standard. This is a proactive step, clearly pre-empting the
requirement for ABS which is likely to be introduced in 2016 for all
newly registered motorcycles in Europe.
