Munich. In line with its sustainability strategy, the
BMW Group is once again systematically leveraging product
sustainability innovations in the new BMW 7 Series. This is evident,
for example, in the use of a new battery cell technology and a higher
percentage of secondary material in the wheel rims. These measures
represent a targeted further development, applying proven
sustainability approaches to another BMW model.

Sixth-generation (Gen6) battery cells in the new BMW i7:
Measures to reduce CO2e in core
component.
Essential levers for reducing supply chain CO₂e emissions
include increased use of secondary materials and renewable energies,
in combination with selected product and process
innovations.
Gen6 battery cells for the BMW i7’s high-voltage
battery are manufactured exclusively using energy from renewable
sources. The same applies to production of the necessary anode and
cathode active material. Cell production also relies in part on
secondary raw materials for the lithium, cobalt and nickel required.
This reduces the overall supply chain CO2e footprint of the
Gen6 battery cell in the new BMW i7 60 xDrive by approximately 33
percent compared to the previous Gen5 cell used in the BMW i7 to date.

Aluminium wheels with high percentage of secondary raw materials.
From 2026, selected rim designs for the BMW i7 will be available
with 70 percent secondary aluminium. Electrolysis of the remaining
primary aluminium, as well as wheel rim production, is carried out in
part using renewable energy. All components with a high percentage of
secondary raw materials meet the BMW Group’s same strict quality
standards, while also contributing to resource efficiency.

Enhanced efficiency during use phase.
With its
EfficientDynamics technology package, the BMW Group optimises vehicle
efficiency across all relevant subsystems during the use phase. This
includes aerodynamics, lightweight construction, rolling resistance
and overall energy management. EfficientDynamics has been used by the
BMW Group across all drive technologies since 2007.

Production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.
All model variants of the new BMW 7 Series Sedan are produced at
BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The facility in Lower Bavaria, the Group’s
primary plant for BMW luxury cars, increasingly relies on renewable
energy for electricity and heating. 100 percent of its external
electricity comes from renewable sources, some of which is also
generated directly on site. In late 2025, an approximately
100,000-square-metre rooftop photovoltaic system with an output of
almost 11 MWp was commissioned at the facility. In addition, a biomass
heating plant went on-stream late last year to ensure that
locally-produced heat is partially supplied from renewable energy sources.

In line with BMW Group’s sustainable development goals.
The BMW Group’s commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement and to
reaching “net zero” no later than 2050 is an integral part of its
holistic 360° approach to sustainability, which is anchored in its
corporate strategy. The BMW Group has set itself ambitious
science-based CO2e targets for the coming years and intends
to reduce its CO2e emissions by a total of at least 40
million tonnes from 2019 levels by 2030.

Transparency through BMW Vehicle Footprint.
The BMW Group has published its vehicles’ Product Carbon
Footprint, as validated by the German Technical Inspection Association
(TÜV), in the so-called Vehicle Footprint for several years. This
report is publicly available here
for all drive trains of the new BMW 7 Series from the start of
production and can also be accessed in the My BMW app. In this way,
the BMW Group creates transparency around the percentage of secondary
materials and CO2e emissions throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

Press Contact: Cornelia Bovensiepen
Tel: +49-151-601-94935
E-mail: cornelia.bovensiepen@bmw.de

Sustainability,Press Release,G70,i7,CO2 Emissions,Product,BMW

Power to its test vehicle, a BMW i7, which is being operated in the
Munich area. The potential benefits of ASSB technology: higher energy
density in a very compact storage system compared to current technologies.

Since 2022, the BMW Group and Solid Power, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLDP)
have intensified their activities for the development of
all-solid-state battery (ASSB) technology through their technology
transfer agreement.

The BMW Group and Solid Power believe in the potential of
genuine ASSB technology. With a higher energy density compared to
current battery technologies, ASSB batteries have the potential to
achieve longer ranges in vehicles without the disadvantages with
regard to the weight of the overall storage system.

“Solid Power is extremely proud that our partnership with BMW
has resulted in the first demonstration of truly all-solid-state
battery cells in a vehicle,” said John Van Scoter, President and Chief
Executive Officer of Solid Power. “We believe in the promise of
ASSB’s and continue to drive innovation of our sulfide electrolyte in
support of that future for EV’s.”

Martin Schuster, Vice President Battery Cell and Cell Module at
the BMW Group, says: “Our BMW i7 ASSB test vehicle on the road is a
perfect example of the BMW Group's technology-open mindset. We are
continuously advancing the development of new battery cell
technologies and are constantly expanding our know-how with valuable
partners such as Solid Power. ”

The concept battery integrated in the BMW i7 test vehicle
combines proven Gen5 construction principles (prismatic cells in
modules) with new, innovative module concepts for integrating ASSB
cells from Solid Power.

The management of cell expansion will be investigated here. In
addition: How is the operating pressure controlled and how to adjust
the temperature conditions.

The use of solid power cells with sulfide-based electrolytes and
their complete integration into a battery pack will provide the BMW
Group with further important findings in the test program over the
coming months.

The innovative cells were developed and manufactured by Solid
Power in collaboration with experts from the BMW Group. Further
development steps are required to implement ASSB technology in a
competitive overall storage system.

The BMW Group and Solid Power have been cooperating since 2016
through an extended “Joint Development Agreement”, which was supported
by BMW Group's investment in Solid Power in May 2021 as part of a
financing round.

At the end of 2022, BMW and Solid Power agreed to further deepen
their partnership. BMW will operate a solid cell prototype line at the
CMCC (Cell Manufacturing Competence Center) in Parsdorf on the basis
of a research and development license and using the experience and
expertise of Solid Power.

Since 2008, the BMW Group has been steadily expanding its
expertise in the area of battery cell technology. Since 2019, this
know-how has been bundled at the BMW Group's Battery Cell Competence
Center (BCCC) in Munich. The BCCC covers the entire value chain, from
research and development to battery cell design and production capability.

In order to be able to implement innovations in battery cell
technology quickly and efficiently, the BMW Group cooperates in a
network of around 300 partners, including established companies,
start-ups and universities.

The cooperation with Solid Power underlines the BMW Group's battery
strategy -to further develop innovative battery technologies on equal
footing with leading partners in the industry. This strategically
strong position in the value chain ensures the BMW Group access to all
new and innovative battery cell research worldwide.

Press Contact: Bernhard Ederer
Tel: +49-89-382-28556
E-mail: bernhard.ederer@bmwgroup.com

BMW i,Drive Technologies,Press Release,Research & Development,G70,i7,Battery Cells,Product,BMW

Munich. Bavarian premium carmaker BMW is using an
elaborately orchestrated brand campaign to shine the spotlight on its
wide range of fully electric vehicles, which now comprises the BMW i4,
BMW i5, BMW i7, BMW iX1, BMW iX2, BMW iX3 and BMW iX. The
multi-channel campaign is focusing communications on values that have
forever been associated with the BMW brand – exceptional dynamics,
innovative technologies, unmistakable design and supreme driving comfort.

The global campaign relies primarily on video formats. The
centrepiece of the campaign launch was a 30-second TV commercial,
which has been spun off across the brand’s social media channels –
YouTube and Instagram, in particular – and, with the help of paid
media, in the individual markets. The commercial invites the viewer to
discover the “soul” and character of BMW along a fast-paced journey
through the history of the brand: from victories in motor racing via
the brand’s distinctive design language and expertise, and its
time-honoured talent for innovation, all the way to the transformation
to electric mobility. The joy of driving has been inextricably linked
with BMW since the company was formed – and this commercial brings it
to life through the brand’s all-electric models.

The use of the hit single “Beautiful Things” by US singer Benson
Boone turns up the emotionality of the commercial another notch. The
track has exceeded 1.3 billion streams on Spotify alone and has also
been a trending sound on social media platform TikTok for several months.

The emotionally charged hero film is accompanied by a series of other
assets. For example, five reels have been produced which focus on the
brand’s core competencies – Performance, Heritage, Innovation,
Motorsport and Community. And additional reels telling inspirational
social-media stories on the various fully electric models round off
the multi-channel campaign.

“With this emotional campaign we are celebrating the unique soul of
our brand, which has defined us since day one and which we have also
carried into our fully electric BMW vehicles,” says Bernd Körber,
Senior Vice President BMW Brand and Product Management. “After all,
our customers represent the true essence of BMW, and they experience
pure driving pleasure in all of our models.”

As well as the video content, a selection of just under 40 photo
assets showcase the fully electric models to spectacular effect in
natural surroundings – at different times of day and in different
locations. Atmospheric lighting, which enriches the motifs with warm
colours and mildly exaggerated contrasts, brings a very distinct sense
of approachability to the images. The exclusive features of the
individual models, such as the two-tone paint finish of the BMW i7,
are depicted realistically. Alongside numerous individual images
emphasising the pure joy of electric driving, a handful of pack shots
of the BMW i4, BMW i5, BMW i7, BMW iX1, BMW iX2, BMW iX3 and BMW iX in
their various configurations highlight the rich diversity of vehicles
offered by BMW across the relevant segments.

Munich. Bavarian premium carmaker BMW has come up
with an innovative brand campaign to turn the heads of an
international audience to the brand’s current range of models in the
luxury segment. The highly exclusive BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, BMW
X7 and BMW XM models are showcased as masterpieces of design and
engineering amid breathtaking landscapes. The impressive images send
out a message of exclusivity with a progressive flavour that appeals
to all the human senses in a nuanced way, reflects our intellectual
perspectives and provides us with meaningful experiences.

The new multi-channel campaign was launched on the YouTube and
Instagram social media channels. Additional content will follow with
country-specific packages of outdoor/print advertising and TV
commercials. These communications activities will begin in the USA,
followed – from September 2024 – by Germany, China, Great Britain,
Japan, South Korea, Czechia, Poland and the Middle East.

“At the heart of the new brand campaign are the uncompromising
performance, sophistication and inimitable style of our most exclusive
models,” says Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand Management
and Product Management. “The imagery used in the campaign invites the
viewer to experience the unbridled passion for design, craftsmanship
and innovative technology inherent in every BMW.”

The new brand campaign gets underway on the BMW YouTube channel with an emotionally engaging
clip focusing on the BMW i7. The flagship model in the all-electric
vehicle line-up stars in the 60-second film – titled “Lifelines” – as
the embodiment of an exclusive and also progressive take on the
brand’s hallmark Sheer Driving Pleasure. Accompanied by a virtuoso
music track, the car moves along an upland plain through a landscape
bathed in atmospheric light. Here, the BMW i7 is presented as a car
for individualists who approach the future with confidence and on
their own terms, and take charge of their own destiny.

The campaign imagery also features the silhouette of a BMW 8 Series
Coupé in front of the dynamically curving contours of a rocky
landscape, the BMW X7 at the foot of a high mountain range with
snow-capped peaks and the BMW XM on a stretch of beach with stormy
winds and dramatically breaking waves. These powerful images are then
joined by the company name: “Bayerische Motoren Werke” is written out
in full.

This emphasises the uniqueness of the brand, its origins and its more
than 100 years of heritage. At the same time, it also signals –
alongside exclusivity and elegance – the confidence of a company that,
over the course of its history, has repeatedly achieved enduring
success with solutions developed in-house. This approach has prompted
a genuine level of identification with its products in the luxury segment.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

BMW i7 xDrive60: WLTP combined: energy consumption 22,3-22,2

Munich. BMW has been setting standards in the
development and production of special protection vehicles that combine
the driving experience typical of the brand with the highest safety
standards for more than four decades. Professional drivers need
special knowledge and skills in order to be able to exploit the full
potential of these armoured vehicles, which are equipped with special
safety-relevant functions, in everyday use. These are taught in the
BMW Security Vehicle Training courses. With the current portfolio of
special protection vehicles and the intensive training courses for
their drivers under the guidance of experienced instructors, BMW has
created a comprehensive range of tailor-made security products from a
single source.

The training programmes are designed for professional drivers who
want to improve their skills in handling special-protection vehicles
in order to be optimally prepared for extreme situations. As one of
Europe's most renowned test and inspection centres for vehicle safety,
the training centre in Groß Dölln near Berlin provides the ideal
setting. The former military airfield, where the authorities also
train their emergency services, was converted into a state-of-the-art
driving centre in 2002 and is now the perfect venue for theory lessons
and driving exercises for BMW Security Vehicle Training.

Driving techniques and escape manoeuvres: Driving safely in
dangerous situations.

The two-stage BMW Security Vehicle Training course was developed for
participants who, as professional drivers, are responsible for the
safety of their passengers. The BMW instructors teach the basics of
driving physics and driving technique as well as tactical knowledge
that will help drivers to act safely and confidently even in extreme
situations. Under the guidance of the instructors, they learn to test
and improve their driving skills in realistic practice scenarios, even
under challenging conditions - such as in escape situations. With a
maximum of eight participants per group and two passengers per
vehicle, an intensive and personalised learning experience is guaranteed.

The two-day basic training course focuses on basic driving techniques
using special protection vehicles. Due to their armouring and the
associated additional weight, special protection vehicles have a
specific driving behaviour that must be taken into account when
handling them. The first day's training includes various driving
elements, including emergency braking and evasive manoeuvres, as well
as exercises in the dark. The night training programme includes
braking and evasive manoeuvres on a slalom course, alternating between
high beam, dipped beam and parking lights. To simulate the ability to
orientate and react to threat scenarios on an unfamiliar route, the
participants are also confronted with explosions on a confusing forest road.

On the second day, in addition to high-speed handling and evasive
manoeuvres in bends, the curriculum includes a real threat scenario
with a simulated vehicle attack. The J-turn is an effective escape
manoeuvre that involves turning the vehicle from reverse to forward
without losing speed to escape a dangerous situation in the opposite
direction. Other key components of the basic module include
anticipatory driving and the ability to maintain a perfect overview
even under stress.

Confident handling in authentically simulated extreme situations.

Building on this, the BMW Security Vehicle Training Level 2 completes
and deepens the skills acquired in the basic course. The three-day
advanced course also covers extreme situations such as escape
manoeuvres under fire and driving exercises with vehicle contact.

Pyrotechnic effects, night-time ambushes and crash scenarios with
significant bodywork damage also test the mental strength of the
training participants. They learn how to control an armoured vehicle
under extreme conditions during high-speed pace car laps on the race
track. The BMW Security Vehicle Training provides professional drivers
with all the skills they need to meet the highest security
requirements and offer their passengers optimum protection.

The learning content is also supplemented by off-road training with
the BMW X5 Protection VR6 (WLTP combined (preliminary data): Energy
consumption 13.4 l/100km; CO2 emissions 305 g/km; CO2 class G). The
training participants have to negotiate various inclines with the
special protection vehicle, which is around one ton heavier than its
base model due to its armouring, and drive at an angle just below the
tipping angle. In addition, sand crossings and locking manoeuvres,
where only two wheels touch the ground in rough terrain, are practised.

BMW 7 Series Protection and BMW i7 Protection: Integrated
protection concept for maximum safety.

Together with the BMW 7 Series Protection (WLTP combined (preliminary
data): Energy consumption 14.6 l/100km; CO2 emissions 328 g/km; CO2
class G), the all-electric BMW i7 (WLTP combined (preliminary data):
Energy consumption 30.0 kWh/100km; CO2 emissions 0 g/km; CO2 class A)
and the BMW X5 Protection VR6, the entire range of current BMW special
protection vehicles is available to training participants. The BMW 7
Series Protection and the BMW i7 Protection combine their integrated
protection concept with remarkable ride comfort and spaciousness,
advanced equipment features and brand’s hallmark driving dynamics.

The globally unique protection concept includes the BMW Protection
Core, which was already used in the development of the regular BMW 7
Series. It forms a self-supporting protection cell made of
armour-plated steel, which is combined with protected doors, underbody
armour and safety glass. The BMW 7 Series Protection and the BMW i7
Protection are classified in resistance class VR9 according to the
internationally recognised official test criteria of the Association
of Test Centres for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions
(VPAM). The glass even meets the requirements of the highest
resistance class for civilian special protection vehicles, VPAM 10. As
an option, the new BMW 7 Series Protection is also available with
partial protection in defined areas of the body against VPAM 10 ammunition.

Model-specific suspension technology, which is precisely matched to
the weight of the special protection, ensures high agility and
superior performance even in dangerous situations. Unique features
include integral active steering as standard and 20-inch alloy wheels
with PAX tyres, which allow the vehicle to continue driving even in
the event of a complete loss of air pressure. Only a few details
distinguish the special Protection models from the standard BMW 7
Series with M Sport Package. The BMW 7 Series Protection is powered by
a 390 kW/530 hp V8 engine. The BMW i7 Protection is the world's first
certified special protection sedan with a all-electric drive. Its two
electric motors generate a system output of up to 400 kW/544 hp.

BMW X5 Protection VR6: Discreet, sporty appearance and added safety.

As the most powerful, dynamic and best-selling special protection
vehicle of its kind in the world, the BMW X5 Protection VR6 also plays
a special role in the brand's model range. Its design is almost
indistinguishable from that of the standard model, giving it a
discreet appearance with a sporty touch. Its integrated protective
equipment was already taken into account during the series development
of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). This includes body armour and
safety glass, which are specially designed for each model. As a
result, the BMW X5 Protection VR6 also meets the requirements of the
Association of Test Centres for Attack-Resistant Materials and
Constructions (VPAM) with regard to bullet and blast resistance.

The chassis technology of the BMW X5 Protection VR6 is precisely
tuned to its high engine output and individual weight balance. It is
equipped as standard with the Adaptive M Chassis Professional, which,
in addition to the M Sport Differential, includes an integrated active
steering system and active roll stabilisation. Its 390 kW/530 hp V8
engine delivers outstanding dynamics, while the standard sport brake
system ensures consistently high stopping power, even under intensive use.

Munich. With a brace of victories in the “Best Cars”
competition, BMW has backed up its successful end to 2023 with a
similarly fruitful beginning to 2024. The BMW 2 Series Coupé wrapped
up class victory in the compact segment for the third time in
succession, while the BMW X1 led the way in the “compact SUV”
category. The “Best Cars” award – voted on by readers of German
motoring magazine “auto, motor und sport” and in its 48th edition this
year – is one of the most prestigious in the European automotive
industry. Almost 100,000 respondents took part in the survey,
selecting one overall winner and one “imported car” champion from a
field of 455 models across 13 vehicle categories.

The start of 2024 was also marked by class victory for the new BMW 5
Series Sedan in the “Large Car” category of the “Women's Worldwide Car
of the Year” award. 75 female automotive journalists from 52 countries
picked out their favourites from a total of 62 vehicles in five
categories. Intended to showcase the influence of women in the
automotive industry and presented for the 14th time this year, this
prize takes into account factors such as safety, quality, price,
design, ride comfort, everyday usability and environmental impact. The
new BMW 5 Series Sedan won over the jury members with its electrified
drive system line-up (including the fully electric BMW i5), as well as
its spaciousness, advanced technology and now fully vegan interior.

This successful beginning to the year saw BMW building on its run of
success in a large number of awards in 2023. Models from the premium
brand’s current range claimed numerous prizes in both its home market
of Germany and its most important sales regions internationally. The
winners stretched across all the relevant categories, with compact
models, luxury vehicles and high-performance sports cars from BMW M
GmbH all making waves. As well as vehicles powered by combustion
engines, the readers and juries also recognised a strikingly high
number of representatives from BMW’s constantly expanding electric
mobility range.

“We’re very proud that our various BMW vehicles have won awards in so
many national and international competitions. This also shows that we
have attractive models in all segments that excite people,” says
Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Customer,
Brands, Sales. “The response to our models with all-electric drive
systems is particularly pleasing. This ties in with the strong demand
from customers and supports the BMW Group’s commitment to ramping up
electric mobility in all areas.”

Newcomer to the ranks of high-performance models and a fully
electric Sports Activity Vehicle both win a “Golden Steering Wheel”.

The “Golden Steering Wheel” presented by German publications “Auto
Bild” and “Bild am Sonntag” is one of the most prestigious
distinctions in the European car industry. BMW took two of these
coveted trophies back to Munich in 2023. The BMW M3 Competition
Touring with M xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 10.4 –
10.1 l/100 km [27.2 – 28.0 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions,
combined: 235 – 229 g/km in the WLTP cycle) ranked first in the
“sports cars” category and the fully electric BMW iX1 topped the
“compact class”.

Both models added a string of other international awards to their
collections over the course of 2023. For example, the first ever
BMW M3 Touring – which combines the dynamic prowess of a
high-performance car with impressive levels of practicality – was
elected sports car of the year in the category for vehicles costing up
to 120,000 euros by readers of “Auto Bild Sportscars” magazine. And
acclaimed British TV programme “Top Gear” honoured the BMW M GmbH
newcomer with the title “All The Car You'll Ever Need” in its “Car of
the Year” awards.

The BMW iX1 collected a trio of awards in China, including
“All-Electric Premium SUV of the Year”. It also won the French
“Automobile Award 2023” in the “Green Tech” category and the “autonis
Award” bestowed by readers of “auto, motor und sport” to the year’s
most attractive new design.

Fully electric BMW i5 enjoys immediate success around the world.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW i5 also claimed an “autonis”
prize. Now also available with a fully electric drive system for the
first time, the new edition of the world’s most successful business
sedan was also named “Car of the Year” by Portuguese magazine
“Frontline”. The BMW i5 was also presented with equivalent awards in
Norway and Denmark, both particularly important markets for electric
vehicles. Norwegian daily “Dagbladet” teamed up with online portals
“DinSide” and “Elbi24” to celebrate the BMW i5. While in Denmark, the
i5 fought off competition from six other models to gain the most votes
for “Car of the Year” in a final round made up exclusively of fully
electric models. The jury of 20 Danish motoring journalists chose the
BMW i5 as their winner by a large margin.

Chinese publication “Auto World” crowned the BMW i5 as “Most
Anticipated Premium Executive Sedan of the Year”, and the fully
electric business sedan also collected three awards in Great Britain:
“The Car Expert” put the BMW i5 in top spot in its “Best Large Car
Award”, it was named “Premium Car of the Year” in the “2024
Electrifying.com Awards” and the “Comfortable Cruiser” topped its
class in Carwow’s “Car of the Year Awards 2024”.

The awards underscore the ability of the new BMW i5 Sedan to win
people over with numerous different qualities: from character-rich
design, a unique balance between sportiness and comfort, innovative
equipment features and progressive digital services to a drive system
whose power is matched by its capability over long distances. And it
also uses latest-generation BMW eDrive technology to transfer the
brand’s signature dynamic ability to the road with zero local
emissions. In addition, adaptive recuperation and an intelligent
combination of heat pump technology for heating and cooling the
interior, drive system and high-voltage battery help to give the BMW
i5 eDrive40 Sedan (electric power consumption, combined:
18.9 – 15.9 kWh/ 100 km in the WLTP cycle) a range of 498 –
582 kilometres (309 – 362 miles) in the WLTP cycle.

BMW’s electric mobility offensive is recognised with awards.

The BMW brand’s fully electric model line-up as a whole enjoyed a
successful year worldwide in 2023. As well as the BMW iX1 and BMW i5,
this was particularly true of the BMW i7 and BMW i4. In Great Britain
alone, these two models were both among the winners in seven awards.
Both won the “Auto Express New Car Award” in their respective vehicle
classes. The BMW i4 also claimed the “Pocket-lint Award” and “Business
Car Award”, and the BMW i7 celebrated success in both the “What Car?
Electric Car Awards” and the “What Car? Car of the Year Awards”. The
fully electric luxury sedan racked up five prizes in China, too,
including the “Car of the Year” distinction from leading online
magazine “sohu.com”.

There was also much to celebrate in France and the USA, where the BMW
i7 was given the “Best Overall and Best Value” rating from “Money”
magazine and praised by “wards auto” magazine for its standout luxury
ambience and digital user experience with BMW Theatre Screen in the
rear compartment. Renowned US magazine “car and driver” named both the
BMW i4 M50 (electric power consumption, combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/
100 km in the WLTP cycle) and BMW i4 eDrive40 M50 (electric power
consumption, combined: 19.1 – 16.1 kWh/ 100 km in the WLTP cycle)
among the “Best 10” of 2023.

Top marks and distinctions for the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4
Series ranges, the BMW M2 and the BMW X3.

BMW set the seal on a successful year in Germany with a two-pronged
triumph. The BMW 3 Series and BMW X3 closed out 2023 with class
victory in the coveted “Auto Trophy”. The BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3
Series Touring, for example, took clear victories in the hotly
contested midsize segment of the readers’ survey conducted by German
title “Auto Zeitung”, racking up 19.0 per cent of the vote. This was
the seventh class win in a row for the 3 Series. Meanwhile, the rugged
aura, interior spaciousness and commitment to electrification of the
BMW X3 helped it account for 15.3 per cent of the votes cast and
therefore the highest points total in the high-volume vehicle segment
of “SUVs costing 30,000 – 60,000 euros”.

The BMW 3 Series was a particularly prolific award-winner in Great
Britain. In the “Business Car Awards”, the 3 Series won the “Best
Premium Car” prize, and it also gained entry to the “Hall of Fame” of
“Fleet News” magazine as the “Most Reliable Company Car”. The BMW 3
Series won twice in the “What Car? Used Car Awards”, topping both the
“Used Executive Car” category and overall “Used Car of the Year”. And
then there was the “Best Used Hybrid Executive Car” distinction for
the BMW 330e Sedan (fuel consumption, combined: 1.9 – 1.4 l/100 km
[148.7 – 201.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption, combined 20.1 –
18.1 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 43 – 32 g/km in
the WLTP cycle). The plug-in hybrid model also tasted success in the
USA, where “Money” magazine described it as “Best for Handling”.

Adding to the wave of success enjoyed by the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 4
Series – with its standout sporting appeal – also enriched the brand’s
glittering international reputation in the premium midsize segment.
The best example of this came in the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4
Series Convertible’s showing in the “What Car? Car of the Year Awards”
in Great Britain. The closed-roof two-door won the “Coupe of the Year”
for the third year in succession in 2023. And this year its open-top
sister model also won the “Convertible of the Year” award.

Two other British awards were claimed by the BMW M2. It was voted
“Best Performance Car” in “The Car Expert Awards”, and the compact
high-performance sports car also took the title of “Performance Car of
the Year” in the “Auto Express New Car Awards”.

Munich. At the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor
show in Munich, the BMW Group will be presenting the most recent
highlights of its ongoing transformation in the key action areas of
electrification, digitalisation and circularity. The latest new models
with electrified powertrains from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad
brands, plus Vision Vehicles and concepts for individual mobility in
tomorrow’s world all serve to underline the company’s innovative
strength in these fields. As the dawn of a new era in personal
mobility approaches, the BMW Group is set to unveil its latest
highlight, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which brings together the
Group’s development expertise in the three crucial disciplines for the
future of mobility.

The IAA Mobility show is being staged in Munich for the second time.
For the BMW Group and its brands, this provides an excellent
opportunity to enter into constructive dialogue on the future of
individual mobility with local people, as well as with visitors to the
show from outside Munich and other stakeholders. The IAA Mobility
Summit at the exhibition centre and the BMW Group’s Open Space at
Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich will be the main arenas where
BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad present their new products on 5 –
10 September 2023. Among the models visitors can acquaint themselves
with here alongside the BMW Vision Neue Klasse is the fully electric
BMW i5. And they can also experience the world premieres of the new
fully electric MINI Cooper, new fully electric MINI Countryman and
BMW CE 02 eParkourer.

Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the
company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility
for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The
BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from
across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital
innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the
ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the
plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new
BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in
the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the
first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully
electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both
be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive
also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at
Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a
trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the
urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models
on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at
Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its
stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to
kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection
vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience
Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will
showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over
the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One
of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for
current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in
this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports
Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The
BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the
models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one
purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model
segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public,
ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW
i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5
– 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an
attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA
Mobility 2023. The current model portfolios of the BMW, MINI,
Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands are presented here, along with the
latest BMW and MINI Lifestyle collections. Plus, starting on
2 September 2023, BMW Lifestyle together with BMW M GmbH will be
running a GOODS WITH FREUDE pop-up store in the Hofstatt shopping
centre at No. 10 Sendlinger Straße. Located just a few minutes’ walk
away from the Open Space, the store will feature both familiar
lifestyle articles and the new BMW Lifestyle collection.

World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of
the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The
BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of
electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW
style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency
and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be
possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show
at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle
incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key
future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision
Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated
the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy
and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new
developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and
powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW
5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other
model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As
early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in
hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range.
Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the
new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be
combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid
systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much
sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency
and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid
system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission together with its power electronics. The highly
integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum
combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new
BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km
[256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 –
20.1 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in
WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new
BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 –
470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 –
18.9 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in
WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric
motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing
stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased
to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission
input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to
boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a
larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off
the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now
up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new
BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the
WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning
within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the
car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment,
which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models –
meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely
combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the
high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time,
maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models
and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be
fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a
conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed
in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the
luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7
Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0
kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment,
as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an
all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it
meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any
limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel
consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into
the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels
of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the
unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept
centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a
self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then
combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody
and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection
from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The
glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for
the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric
motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they
generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined
torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive
system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from
rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to
160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power
delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and
directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and
performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis
technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its
armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation.
Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral
Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle,
increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort
for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further
standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the
car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the
event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5
is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is
intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The
special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated
via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored
precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply
system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio
transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus
other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further
evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field
of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle
with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current
BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with
various target groups around the world. This allows selected test
groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get
behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression
of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of
BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear
axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion
technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell
vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric
motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the
high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced
plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can
be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place
in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air,
through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated.
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in
the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The
hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in
under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of
180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short
refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving
dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential –
provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an
additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As
part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an
approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive
systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing
customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and
regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree
of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to
changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present
as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at
all times.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

BMW unveils a new generation of protection vehicles in the
luxury sedan segment.
The two models developed on the basis of the new BMW 7 Series
succeed in blending an unrivalled protection concept with outstanding
levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, exceptionally advanced
equipment features and the class-beating dynamic prowess for which the
brand is renowned. As the world’s first ever protection sedan with an
all-electric drive system, the BMW i7 Protection (electric power
consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional
figure) is a genuine trailblazer. Driven by two powerful electric
motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without
any limitations, as does the new combustion-engine BMW 7 Series
Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km
[19.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

The integrated security concept of the new BMW i7 Protection and
BMW 7 Series Protection was factored into the development of the new
BMW 7 Series range. It centres around the new BMW Protection Core,
which is unique worldwide and comprises the model-specific
self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then
combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody
and roof and armoured glass. Both models will be built at BMW Group
Plant Dingolfing in an elaborate “craft manufacturing” process. The
two protection vehicles are set to make their public debut at the IAA
Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, with deliveries to
customers requiring special protection commencing in December 2023.

The new protection models offer customised protection from attacks
with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. They have been
classified as offering class VR9 protection based on the
internationally recognised official test criteria of Germany’s
Vereinigung der Prüfstellen für Angriffshemmende Materialien und
Konstruktionen (Association of Test Laboratories for Attack-Resistant
Materials and Constructions – VPAM, for short). The certification is
based, among other things, on the third edition of the guidelines for
Bullet Resistant Vehicles (VPAM BRV) with regard to ballistic
resistance and the guidelines for Explosive Resistant Vehicles (VPAM
ERV, third edition) and PAS 300 with regard to blast resistance. The
glass for the two models even protects against fire from calibre
7.62x54 R ammunition — a threat from the highest civilian resistance
class VPAM 10. A partial protection extension is also available as an
option for the new BMW 7 Series Protection in defined bodywork areas
against fire from VPAM 10 ammunition.

The first all-electric model in its protection category and offered
exclusively in Europe, the BMW i7 Protection demonstrates how
outstanding qualities in terms of security level, driving dynamics,
ride comfort and interior comfort are perfectly compatible with a
rigorous focus on sustainability. Its arrival sees the BMW Group once
again acting as a pioneer in the field of locally emission-free
mobility for individuals requiring special protection. At the IAA
Mobility 2021 show, the company presented the BMW Concept iX5 Hydrogen
Protection VR6, the first protection vehicle with a hydrogen-powered
fuel-cell drive system to be certified anywhere in the world. It
showcased the BMW Group’s ability to come up with sustainable
solutions even in this specialised vehicle segment by applying its
standout development expertise.

Innovative protection concept featuring unique BMW Protection Core.

The innovative protection concept for BMW’s new protection sedans is
a product of traditional know-how combined with cutting-edge
technology. BMW has now amassed 45 years of experience in the
development and production of protection vehicles. The protection
concept currently applied was devised as part of the series production
development process for the new BMW 7 Series and, more than ever,
offers major advantages over armouring a finished vehicle at a later date.

This is largely thanks to the unique BMW Protection Core, which sees
the entire supporting structure for a protection sedan’s body
constructed from armour steel for the first time. Its
three-dimensionally engineered elements are all made of exceptionally
resistant, hot-formed steel alloys. The BMW Protection Core forms a
self-supporting protective cell, which is then combined with
protection-spec doors, armouring for the underbody and safety glass.

Special armouring designed to offer maximum protection against
explosives in particular has been used for both the roof and underbody
of the two protection sedans. This means the occupants are also
protected from drone attacks with explosive charges, for example, and
from fragments dispersed by hand grenades on detonation.

Also to be found on the list of standard security features for the
BMW 7 Series Protection is a self-sealing fuel tank, with special
casing that enables it to seal itself after being hit by a bullet to
prevent any loss of fuel.

As part of the certification process, the special protection elements
must demonstrate their ability to resist attack by undergoing a
demanding procedure. In addition to this, experts from an independent
state testing institute conduct firearms and explosive tests on the
vehicle. The official inspection and certification of the complete
vehicle finally provides confirmation of the all-round protection
offered by the holistic concept for the new protection vehicles from BMW.

Greater spaciousness, lower weight and sharper agility
combined with uncompromising occupant protection.

The structural protection concept achieved with the pioneering
BMW Protection Core endows the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series
Protection with an unrivalled set of characteristics. When seen from
the outside, just a few details distinguish the two protection sedans
from a regular 7 Series Sedan with the M Sport package. Their discreet
and largely inconspicuous appearance on public roads represents an
additional safety factor for people requiring protection.

The BMW Protection Core design principle has the added effect of
increasing the cabin’s spaciousness. Thanks to the fully integrated
protection concept, the levels of room and seating comfort in the
front and rear hardly differ from those to be found inside a
conventional BMW 7 Series Sedan in all key criteria.

The innovative protection concept used for the new BMW i7 Protection
and BMW 7 Series Protection has additionally allowed their weight to
be optimised compared with predecessor models. Not only does the
weight saving result in a considerably higher load-carrying capacity,
it also has a particularly positive effect on the protection sedans’
handling abilities. The optimised weight combines with the increase in
body rigidity (another benefit of the BMW Protection Core) to deliver
unrivalled levels of agility. This all translates into extremely
precise handling control, excellent cornering dynamics and outstanding
figures for acceleration and top speed.

BMW i7 Protection: outstanding security, zero tailpipe
emissions and no compromises.

The BMW i7 Protection brings the all-electric mobility experience to
the protection vehicle segment for the first time. Individuals
requiring special protection are therefore able to choose a vehicle
that requires no compromises to be made in terms of either security or
sustainable drive technology.

The locally emission-free powertrain on board the BMW i7 Protection
comprises one electric motor at the front axle and another at the
rear. It uses numerous components taken from the drive system in the
brand’s most powerful all-electric production model, the
BMW i7 M70 xDrive (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle:
23.7 – 20.8 kWh/ 100 km), allowing it to deliver supreme performance.
The two electric motors together create an electric all-wheel-drive
system with a combined output of up to 400 kW/544 hp and maximum
combined torque of 745 Newton metres (549 lb-ft).

The instantaneous power delivery, distribution of power to all four
wheels and intelligent networking of all the powertrain and chassis
systems guarantee exceptional traction, directional stability and
dynamic prowess. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62
mph) from rest in 8.1 seconds, while top speed is electronically
limited to 160 km/h (99 mph).

BMW 7 Series Protection: unwavering protection, superior dynamics.

The petrol-engined version of the new protection sedan has a
latest-generation V8 unit under the bonnet. Its BMW TwinPower Turbo
technology includes an upgraded turbocharging system with electrically
operated blow-off valve and indirect charge air cooling, along with a
cross-bank exhaust manifold. The new 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine
uses 48V mild hybrid technology to optimise power delivery and efficiency.

The new drive system generates maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp and
peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The BMW xDrive intelligent
all-wheel-drive system directs drive power to all four wheels as
required. The new BMW 7 Series Protection combines superior driving
dynamics with levels of efficiency that are also unrivalled. It
accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.6 seconds and goes on to
reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).

Model-specific chassis technology for assured performance.

The new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection come with
chassis technology that has been modified and tuned specifically for
these models and makes allowance for the additional weight resulting
from their special protection features. This produces superbly assured
performance in any situation. Thanks to a robust basic construction
and the presence of sophisticated chassis systems, passengers in the
rear compartment are also able to enjoy exceptional levels of ride
comfort. The protection sedans also make their mark with precisely
controllable handling, even when they are being driven hard, such as
when escaping from an attack.

Unique in the segment: Integral Active Steering.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are the
first and only protection vehicles in their segments to be fitted with
Integral Active Steering. This rear-wheel steering functionality not
only reduces the car’s turning circle when manoeuvring, it also
increases precision and the dynamic response through quickly taken
corners. Another key attribute of Integral Active Steering – which is
specified as standard – is how it enhances driving comfort for
rear-seat passengers.

20-inch light-alloy wheels with exclusive PAX tyres.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are fitted
with 20-inch light-alloy wheels, which represents a standout offering
in their segments and enables the use of a particularly powerful
braking system.

The model-specific light-alloy wheels in star-spoke design are fitted
with tyres – supplied by Michelin in the dimensions 255-740 R510 –
that have been specifically developed for the protection sedans. The
large diameter of these tyres and the extremely high volume of air
they hold compared with rivals enhance ride comfort, while the larger
contact area benefits traction and driving stability. The PAX tyres
have a runflat ring positioned on the wheel rim which allows the car
to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of
a total loss of pressure.

Driver assistance systems with information and warning function.

In keeping with their status as protection vehicles, the new BMW i7
Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are equipped with an
extensive selection of driver assistance systems. The functionality of
this tech is focused on supporting professional chauffeurs with
information and warnings, but without actively intervening to control
the vehicle.

The highly advanced sensors developed for the new BMW 7 Series range
and all of the cameras available for the luxury sedan are also fitted
on the protection vehicles. These provide precise and detailed
information on the area around the vehicle in all situations. The
requisite data and images are supplied by e.g. the parking view,
Panorama View, Remote 3D View and BMW Drive Recorder functions
included in the Parking Assistant Plus package. Also on hand are the
alert functions of the front-collision warning, Crossroads Warning,
Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info systems.

Extensive comfort-enhancing features with exclusive details.

In order to optimise visibility out of the new BMW i7 Protection and
new BMW 7 Series Protection in low ambient temperatures, an electric
heating function for both the windscreen and the front sections of the
side windows comes as standard. Model-specific pre-heating is
available as an option.

Another item on the options list is a cool box integrated between the
rear seats to ensure the on-board drinks supplies are kept cold. Its
net capacity of eight litres offers sufficient space for two water
bottles and two glasses, which can be cooled to 4 or 10 degrees
Celsius as desired.

The standard-fitted Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound
System, meanwhile, lays on a high-end audio experience. The 1,265-watt
digital amplifier, individually adjustable equalizers and 28 speakers
combine to deliver a full, even sound for all those on board. The
system also includes a pair of exciters integrated into each of the
seats, which convert low bass frequencies into noticeable vibrations.

An exclusive convenience feature offered for the first time on a BMW
model is motorised assistance for opening and closing the doors, which
comes as standard. It is available immediately after unlocking the car
and reduces the force required to open or close the armoured doors.
Also unique in this segment is a function that enables occupants to
close the doors automatically at the touch of a button after climbing in.

Passengers in the second row of seats in the new BMW i7 Protection
and new BMW 7 Series Protection benefit from electrically operated
roller sunblinds for the windows on both sides. The blinds extend
horizontally from the B-pillar towards the C-pillar and offer what is
known as a spy position. Here, the sunblind opens by around
ten centimetres at the touch of a button to allow a view outside. From
this position, passengers have the option of opening or closing the
sunblind fully. A model-specific roller sunblind for the rear window
is also included as standard.

Broad range of options for individualising the exterior and interior.

The integrated protection concept of the protection sedans and
production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing maximise the scope for
customers to put their personal touch on the exterior and interior.
Offered as an option alongside the standard illuminated BMW kidney
Iconic Glow are the BMW crystal headlights Iconic Glow. The new
BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection can be specified in
almost all of the body colours available for the new BMW 7 Series
range. These include the BMW Individual paint finishes and BMW
Individual special paint finishes. The exterior design options are
closely aligned with those available for the standard versions of the
cars and allow the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7
Series Protection to maintain a low-profile presence in public areas.

The appointments and design of the interior can likewise be adapted
to personal needs and desires at a detail level. Multifunction seats,
BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated
seats for the front and rear occupants are all part of standard
specification. A massage function can be specified for all seats as an
option. The optional Executive Lounge includes comfort seats with a
reclining function for the rear seat behind the front passenger. The
range of optional seat and interior surfaces is also carried over from
the richly varied options list for the new BMW 7 Series.

BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display and integrated operation of
model-specific security functions.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are
equipped with the latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW
Operating System 8.5. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a
way that will be familiar to BMW drivers. The driver can therefore
view all the important information on the BMW Curved Display at the
right time and in the right place within their direct line of sight.
The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also
operated via BMW iDrive. They can be activated and controlled in full
using the touchscreen capability of the control display.

A camera-based additional interior mirror can be specified as an
option. This shows the image feed from the Reversing Assist Camera in
the control display’s panorama view at all driving speeds and on any
kind of route. The electronic additional interior mirror is unique in
the protection vehicles segment in this form.

The standard-fitted intercom system allows the car’s occupants to
communicate with people on the outside without having to open doors or
windows. Key features here are microphones integrated into the
exterior mirrors, an outside speaker, the hands-free microphone
embedded in the headliner and supplementary speakers in the interior.
Added to which, a rod microphone can be fitted as an option in the
centre console storage tray to enable effective communication with
people outside the car even when the windows are closed.

Effective protection measures for a variety of attack scenarios.

With their wide-ranging standard and optional equipment features, the
new protection sedans from BMW offer custom-spec protection in attack
scenarios of various types. The new BMW i7 Protection and new
BMW 7 Series Protection can be tailored precisely to any purpose, with
items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguisher with
automatic and manual discharge, flashing lights, radio transceivers
and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other
special customer-specific options.

Security built in from the start: integrated protection
concept, service provided worldwide by trained experts, special
driver training.

The many years of experience amassed by BMW in the manufacture of
protection vehicles has enabled the company to achieve outstanding
levels of protection with the new BMW i7 Protection and new
BMW 7 Series Protection – as, most notably, has the decision to
develop these vehicles alongside the standard variants of the new BMW
7 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection
offer built-in security from the factory. Unlike retrofit solutions
carried out by an external provider, the integral protection concept
of these vehicles ensures not only maximum security under armed
attack, but also well-resolved handling and the dynamic responses
expected of a BMW in dangerous situations. The development expertise
of the world’s most successful premium carmaker has produced a wealth
of innovative functions that allow people requiring special protection
to enjoy an even safer and more secure mobility experience. The smooth
integration of the model-specific protection features within the
BMW iDrive system helps ensure these features are intuitive, safe and
comfortable for the driver to use in any situation.

Customers around the world can take advantage of individual and
discreet consultancy arrangements and an array of other services. For
example, specific customer requests can be accommodated when it comes
to equipping their vehicle with additional protection and/or
convenience features. Service and maintenance for the protection
sedans are provided by an international network of BMW service
outlets, with the work carried out exclusively by trained experts in
certified specialist workshops.

BMW also offers special Protection driver training courses. These
programmes, which BMW has been hosting for more than 35 years, are
offered at various intensity levels depending on the prior knowledge
of the participants involved and take place at several locations
around the world. The training courses are led by highly qualified
experts and their content ranges from comprehensive theory sessions to
practical vehicle control exercises and tactical response training.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. New model variants and innovations in the
areas of electrification and digitalisation are set to further
increase the appeal and diversity of the BMW product range from summer
2023. At the pinnacle of the model portfolio, the arrival of a third
variant of the all-electric BMW i7 expands the brand’s offering in the
luxury segment. At the same time, the Multi-Contract Plug & Charge
and MAX RANGE functions will now be available for all BMW i7 and
BMW iX model variants, making electric mobility even more convenient.
And from August 2023, customers will have the choice of a second,
extremely powerful six-cylinder in-line diesel engine for the new
BMW X5 and BMW X6.

The highlight as far as digitalisation is concerned is the
introduction of the upgraded BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect and BMW
Operating System 8.5 for a large number of current models. The
capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be
enhanced once again for these models in summer 2023. The new exterior
colours and upholstery variants for several of the current models will
offer additional scope for customisation. Meanwhile, the M Sport
package Pro will be added to the choice of optional extras for the BMW
X1 and BMW iX1.

BMW i7 eDrive50: an extra boost for electric mobility in the
luxury segment.

It has taken just a few months for the all-electric BMW i7 to
establish itself as the epitome of progressive drive technology in the
luxury segment worldwide. From July 2023, the new BMW i7 eDrive50
(electric power consumption combined: 20.3 – 19.1 kWh/100 km in the
WLTP cycle) will offer customers another way to enjoy supreme
long-distance comfort combined with trailblazing innovations and
emission-free driving pleasure. The third model variant in the BMW i7
line-up comes with the latest BMW eDrive technology in the form of a
highly integrated electric drive unit delivering maximum output of
335 kW/455 hp and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).

This enables the new BMW i7 eDrive50 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h
(62 mph) in 5.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 205
km/h (127 mph). Thanks to its highly efficient electric motor and the
outstanding energy density of its high-voltage battery, the new
BMW i7 eDrive50 achieves a WLTP-calculated range of 575 –
611 kilometres (357 – 380 miles).

Multi-Contract Plug & Charge and MAX RANGE: new functions
for making electric mobility even more convenient.

To coincide with the ongoing expansion of the all-electric model
line-up, new functions are being made available for all BMW i7 and BMW
iX variants in summer 2023 that will make enjoying locally
emission-free driving pleasure even easier and more convenient. The
Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function will be added to the BMW
Charging portfolio, enabling automatic vehicle authentication at
public charging points. The exchange of data between vehicle and
charging point does away with the need for a charging card or app. As
the amount of electricity fed into the high-voltage battery is also
billed automatically, Plug & Charge makes recharging even more
straightforward than refuelling conventionally powered vehicles. The
BMW Group is the first carmaker in the world to incorporate
multi-contract functionality into this new feature. Customers are able
to store their individual vehicle electricity contracts from multiple
suppliers in digital form in their car, allowing them to use the
charging points of these operators with the greatest of ease. The new
Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function can be made available via
Remote Software Upgrade for all BMW i7 models manufactured since July
2022 and all BMW iX models built since March 2023.

The MAX RANGE function for the electric drive system in the BMW i7
and BMW iX is also new and gives drivers greater flexibility when
looking for a public charging station. It is operational in the My
Mode Efficient and can be used to increase range by up to 25 per cent
by both limiting drive power and top speed and scaling back comfort
functions. The MAX RANGE function was mainly devised for situations
where drivers are unable to recharge mid-journey as originally planned
because, for example, the charging station they were heading for is
out of service. Activating the MAX RANGE function extends the range by
a comfortable margin for the journey to an alternative charging point
for the high-voltage battery. This is achieved by, among other things,
limiting the vehicle’s top speed to 90 km/h (56 mph) at the same time
as disabling features such as the climate control, seat heating and
steering wheel heating. The new MAX RANGE function can be made
available via Remote Software Upgrade for all BMW i7 models
manufactured since July 2022 and all BMW iX models built since March 2023.

The high-voltage battery in the BMW iX can now also be charged more
efficiently thanks to the same upgraded charging software already used
in the BMW i7. Here, careful control of the charging rate results in
shorter charging times. The new charging software can also be imported
into all BMW iX models manufactured since March 2023 via Remote
Software Upgrade.

In addition to this, the various digital services offered for
charging the high-voltage battery will be enhanced for all electrified
BMW models in summer 2023. When searching for charging points in the
navigation system, for instance, the entries for several stations
within a single charging park will now be combined. In the future, the
charging history will also show the total costs for a month and allow
charging operations to be filtered by location.

The BMW Maps navigation system will also offer improved functions for
calculating a charging-optimised route in the all-electric BMW i7, BMW
iX, BMW i4 and BMW iX1 models. The driver’s preferred minimum charge
level for when the vehicle reaches mid-journey stops and the final
destination can now be adjusted in increments of five per cent and
incorporated into the route planning. In the future, the system will
also be able to give preference to charging stations operated by
selected providers and exclude others from the route planning at the
customer’s request. In addition, the user is given even more detailed
information on their selected charging stations, including
availability at that moment in time, the connector types supported and
payment options, plus the presence of sanitary facilities, food
outlets or playgrounds in their vicinity. The new charging-optimised
route planning functions can also be retrofitted via Remote Software Upgrade.

Highly efficient and big on torque: the new six-cylinder
in-line diesel engine with 48V mild hybrid technology for the BMW X5
and BMW X6.

A second six-cylinder in-line diesel engine will be added to the
line-up of drive systems for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 in August 2023. The
unit in the new BMW X5 xDrive40d (fuel consumption, combined:
8.4 – 7.3 litres/100 km [33.6 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions, combined: 221 – 190 g/km in the WLTP cycle) and new
BMW X6 xDrive40d (fuel consumption, combined: 8.2 – 7.3 litres/100 km
[34.5 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions, combined:
214 – 191 g/km in the WLTP cycle) is the most powerful diesel variant
in the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines.

New steel pistons enable a higher combustion pressure, and the
effectiveness of the oil separation process has also been enhanced.
The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprises a two-stage turbocharging
system and a common-rail direct injection system with new solenoid
valve injectors. These send the fuel into the combustion chambers with
up to 12 injections per power stroke and maximum pressure of 2,500
bar. 48V mild hybrid technology in the form of a crankshaft-driven
starter generator integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission gives the 3.0-litre engine even sharper power delivery
and increases its efficiency.

The drive system generates maximum output of 259 kW/352 hp and peak
torque of 720 Nm (531 lb-ft). The impressive pulling power of the new
six-cylinder in-line diesel engine, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission and the intelligent all-wheel-drive system join forces to
produce potent sprinting ability. The new BMW X5 xDrive40d and new
BMW X6 xDrive40d both accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect for further BMW models.

The upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect is being rolled out with BMW
Operating System 8.5 across additional models*. The latest generation

Munich / Shanghai. The BMW Group is making a strong
showing at Auto Shanghai 2023 with a total of three world premieres
from its BMW brand. Taking centre stage are the latest product and
technological innovations, with the focus placed firmly on
electrification and digitalisation.

This is the first time that only electrified new models from the
brand are being exhibited at a show. The star attractions are the
all-electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive (electric power consumption combined:
23.8 – 20.8 kWh/ 100 km in the WLTP cycle) as the new range-topping
model of the BMW 7 Series, the BMW XM Label Red (fuel consumption
combined: 1.7 – 1.6 litres/100 km [166.2 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric
power consumption combined: 34.5 – 33.0 kWh/100 km; CO2
emissions combined: 39 – 35 g/km in the WLTP cycle) with M HYBRID
drive system, and a version of the purely electrically powered BMW iX1
(electric power consumption combined: 18.1 – 16.8 kWh/100 km in the
WLTP cycle) that has been developed exclusively for Chinese customers.
Also on display at Auto Shanghai 2023 are the BMW i Vision Dee and the
MINI Concept Aceman, which are both receiving their Asian premieres.

The premium manufacturer is also making it very clear that the
Chinese car market holds great importance for BMW by unveiling three
new models from the brand in public for the first time at Auto
Shanghai. “BMW stands for innovation, for cutting-edge products and a
broad technology approach,” says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board
of Management of BMW AG. “This enables us to address the individual
wishes of our customers, especially here in China.”

From 18–27 April, 2023, BMW will be offering visitors to the National
Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai a wide-ranging show
experience. In the exhibition area inside Hall 7.1, the entire
portfolio of electrified models from the BMW brand are arranged around
the show stand’s hub, which is designed in the style of a charging
station. There is also an electrifying lighting installation as well
as numerous interactive elements to draw visitors’ attention to the
exhilarating product and brand experience on offer.

An exclusive event is taking place on the eve of the show’s opening
in Shanghai, where the BMW Group will already be presenting its latest
new models. It will also be offering a foretaste of the ‘Neue Klasse’
model generation, whose name is a reference to the company’s
groundbreaking models from the 1960s. The BMW Group is currently
developing a completely new technological platform for electric
vehicles for the Neue Klasse, which is going to redefine standards for
digitalisation, circular economy and design. “The Neue Klasse will
embody all three pillars of this transformation,” remarks Oliver
Zipse. “It will therefore further boost the fast-growing demand for
our all-electric vehicles.” At least six models are meant to go into
production during the first 24 months following the Neue Klasse launch.

The models celebrating their world premiere in Shanghai are being
presented under the guiding theme of “RE:IMAGINE Tomorrow – Make
Electric Emotional”. “Our BEV ramp-up is precisely geared to
increasing customer demand,” says Pieter Nota, member of the Board of
Management of BMW AG, responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales.
“Because the customer is the focus of all we do: we want to provide
the best premium customer experience in our industry.”

The all-electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive will in future be delivering a
unique performance experience in the luxury segment when it takes its
place at the top of the BMW 7 Series range. Its two electric motors
generate a combined system output of up to 485 kW/660 hp and maximum
torque of 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft). “The BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the most
powerful and fastest all-electric vehicle of our portfolio,” comments
Pieter Nota.

The BMW XM Label Red is also making its global debut. The new
top-of-the-range version of the first ever electrified
high-performance model from BMW M GmbH is powered by an M HYBRID drive
system, whose combination of a V8 petrol engine and an electric motor
delivers maximum output of 550 kW/748 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm
(737 lb-ft).

The version of the BMW iX1 that has been specially developed for the
Chinese car market and is also being unveiled for the first time at
the Auto Shanghai show provides fresh impetus for all-electric premium
mobility in the compact segment. Made in China for China, the Sports
Activity Vehicle is fitted with one electric motor at the front axle
and another at the rear producing a combined powerful output. The new
BMW iX1 also includes some particularly sophisticated touches for the
Chinese market in terms of digitalisation. It is one of the brand’s
first models to include the control/operation system BMW iDrive with
QuickSelect based on BMW Operating System 9.

Visitors to the Auto Shanghai 2023 show will also have the
opportunity to meet the BMW i Vision Dee, with “Dee” standing for
Digital Emotional Experience. The Vision Vehicle facilitates a
remarkably intense bond between human and car using digital features
that extend far beyond the functionality of voice control and driver
assistance systems as we know them today.

The user experience in the BMW i Vision Dee is largely defined by a
projection of driving-related data and other information extending
across the entire width of the windscreen. This pioneering form of
visualisation also allows the real and virtual worlds to be merged
using the mixed reality slider control in the Vision Vehicle’s
cockpit. It will serve as the basis for developing an advanced version
of the BMW Head-Up Display introduced by BMW 20 years ago in a world
first for the automotive industry. The new system is already set to go
into production from 2025 in the first Neue Klasse models under the
name of BMW Panoramic Vision. “Making Vision Cars is exciting, but our
true goal is to bring our vision to life,” says Frank Weber, member of
the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Development. “By
inventing leading-edge technologies and creating unique, fascinating
products like the all-new BMW Panoramic Vision. It will be a
fundamental new element of our future human-machine interaction system.”

The BMW i Vision Dee is also sure to impress visitors to the show
with the upgraded colour change technology of its outer skin. An
ePaper film from project partner E Ink that is applied to the body and
subdivided into 240 segments allows up to 32 different colours and a
virtually endless variety of patterns to be created and changed again
in just a few seconds.

The MINI brand’s line-up for Auto Shanghai 2023 includes a first
glimpse of a new vehicle concept. Featuring an all-electric drive
system and a brand new design, the MINI Concept Aceman is being
presented as a crossover model within the new MINI family. It is the
epitome of Charismatic Simplicity – the MINI design language of the
future that is shaped by the brand’s past and sends out trailblazing
signals by focusing on the essentials. The Concept Vehicle fuses
modern styling with pioneering technologies and demonstrates what
digitality could look like in a future MINI.

The BMW Group’s sustained success in China is closely linked to the
continuing ramp-up of electric mobility. With eleven purely
electrically powered models on show at Auto Shanghai 2023, the BMW
Group is exhibiting its most varied range of electric vehicles yet for
the Chinese market, where the company has been active since 1994. In
that time, the BMW Group has already delivered more than seven million
vehicles to customers in China. The company now has a network of over
630 dealerships extending throughout the country, virtually all of
which are also qualified to sell and service electrified vehicles.

In 2023, China is marking 70 years since the foundation of its
national car industry. At the same time, the BMW Group in China also
has an important anniversary coming up, as it is 20 years since
vehicles from the BMW brand started to be produced at the Dadong plant
of the BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) joint venture. Since that
time, more than five million BMWs have rolled off the production line
at the site in Shenyang. Following the most recent expansion of
production capacity there, the facility will be capable of building
around 830,000 cars a year in future.

Local capabilities in the field of vehicle and innovative
technological development are also being consistently consolidated.
The Chinese research and development network is the largest outside
Germany. The number of people employed in these areas has tripled in
the past three years. There are now more than 3,200 designers,
engineers and electric mobility and software specialists in China
working in close collaboration with local technology firms and other
partners to develop cutting-edge innovations for the future of
individual mobility.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. Innovations in the areas of
individualisation, digitalisation and electrification will bring
further appeal to the BMW model range in spring 2023. The BMW crystal
headlights Iconic Glow celebrated their world premiere in the new
BMW 7 Series, and this exclusive option will also be available for the
BMW X7 from April 2023. Plus, additions will be made to the selection
of exterior paint shades and interior appointments for the BMW 7
Series. Both these luxury models and the fully electric BMW iX will
also be offered with the extended Parking Assistant Professional,
which enables the Remote Control Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant
functions to be controlled via the My BMW App using an Apple iPhone.

BMW Operating System 8 and the latest-generation BMW iDrive
multi-sensory vehicle experience including BMW Curved Display will be
introduced into the BMW 4 Series models and BMW M4 line-up in March
2023. And many all-electric models from BMW will come with the
charging cable Professional (mode 3) designed for an AC charging
capacity of up to 22 kW.

BMW 7 Series: new exterior paint finishes and interior appointments.

From March 2023, all members of the BMW 7 Series range will be
available with additional individualisation options for the exterior
and interior. Among the new arrivals is the BMW Individual Frozen
Tanzanite Blue metallic exterior paint shade. Plus, customers will
also be able to combine the exclusive BMW Individual two-tone
paintwork with BMW Individual special paint finishes. The new M Merino
leather with exclusive elements in Taupe Grey/Night Blue and
Caramel/Atlas Grey, and BMW Individual Merino leather/cashmere wool
with exclusive elements in Black/Grey ensure customers can enjoy
particularly stylish interior design.

New option for the BMW X7: BMW crystal headlights Iconic Glow.

Exclusive front-end styling brings heightened visual expression to
BMW’s luxury models. Here, the optional BMW crystal headlights Iconic
Glow – first introduced on the new BMW 7 Series and also available for
the BMW X7 from April 2023 – radiate a particularly vibrant presence.
With this headlights option, crystals from Swarovski positioned in the
upper section of the lights and backlit by LED units perform the role
of sidelights and daytime driving lights. Both when the sun is shining
and at night, the crystals reflect the light in a multitude of facets.
These headlights team up with the contour lighting for the BMW kidney
grille to create a distinctive light signature.

From April 2023, customers will also be able to specify a new visual
flourish for the rear end of the largest Sports Activity Vehicle: the
optional M high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim with extended elements
will now also include a rear trim strip in Black high-gloss.

BMW 7 Series, BMW X7 and BMW iX: controlling parking
manoeuvres with an Apple iPhone.

The extended Parking Assistant Professional available for the BMW 7
Series, BMW X7 and BMW iX from spring 2023 brings greater comfort when
parking and manoeuvring. Here, BMW employs innovative digital
technology to make further advances in the area of automated driving
and parking. The extended Parking Assistant Professional gives drivers
the ability to guide their car into and out of parking spaces and also
carry out more complex manoeuvring from outside the car via the My BMW
App on their smartphone (available with My BMW App Version 2.12.x).

This functionality facilitates the use of extremely tight or
hard-to-access parking spaces. For example, the driver can pause a
parking process that is already underway, get out of the car and then
resume the manoeuvre while they monitor the area around the car from
the outside. They can then also control the car’s exit from the space
from their smartphone using the Parking Assistant Professional.

Switching between controlling the car when inside it and doing so
from the outside is also possible for more extensive manoeuvres using
the Manoeuvre Assistant function likewise included in the Parking
Assistant Professional. I.e. the driver can also operate this function
from outside their car and monitor its progress using their
smartphone. They can be up to six metres away from the vehicle while
doing so. The Manoeuvre Assistant can record and store up to ten
manoeuvres at different locations, each covering a maximum distance of
200 metres and up to a combined total of 600 metres. When the vehicle
then returns to one of the starting points, the system performs all
the driving tasks required in fully automated form, including
acceleration, braking, steering and, if required, multiple direction
and gear changes. And it can do so whether the driver remains inside
the car or chooses to control the manoeuvre from outside using their
Apple iPhone.

BMW iX now with manually activated heat management for the
high-voltage battery, plus the Trailer Assistant.

All model variants of the purely electrically driven BMW iX will be
equipped with a further developed version of the predictive heat
management technology for the high-voltage battery from March 2023. As
in the BMW i7, it will be possible to initiate pre-warming of the
battery manually and when the navigation system’s route guidance is
not active. Warming the battery ahead of a charging stop optimises the
absorption of energy when topping up at a DC fast-charging station.
Waste heat from the electric motors is used to adjust the temperature
of the battery.

The Driving Assistant fitted as standard on the BMW iX will also
include the Trailer Assistant from March 2023. This function carries
out the necessary steering movements during reversing manoeuvres when
a trailer is coupled to the vehicle.

BMW 4 Series and BMW M4 now with BMW Operating System 8 and
BMW Curved Display.

A fresh digitalisation push will also enhance the appeal of the BMW 4
Series models and BMW M4 high-performance sports cars from spring
2023. These ultra-sporty cars for the premium midsize segment will be
equipped as standard with BMW Operating System 8 and will therefore
also be fitted with the control/operation system iDrive with BMW
Curved Display. The fully digital screen grouping of
the standard-fitted BMW Live Cockpit Plus is composed of a 12.3-inch
information display behind the steering wheel and a control display
with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. The modern cockpit design and
the extended capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant
enable a significant reduction in the number of buttons and
controllers in favour of voice and touch control. An expressive
welcome sound, which will also now be audible in the BMW i4 models
when the driver’s door or front passenger door is opened, highlights
the digital advances introduced into the interior.

All of the engines available for the BMW 4 Series Coupé, BMW 4 Series
Gran Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible will link up as standard with
an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. From March 2023, this
specification will also include gearshift paddles on the steering
wheel and a new selector lever in the control panel on the centre
console. M high-gloss Shadowline for the side window surrounds will
also be included as standard for all model variants.

The M interior trim strip in Aluminium Rhombicle anthracite added to
the options list for the BMW 4 Series models and all BMW M4 Coupé and
BMW M4 Convertible variants will allow customers to bring further
individualisation to the interior of their cars. From March 2023, BMW
M4 models can also be ordered with an instrument panel in Sensatec.
And an M design graphic will be offered exclusively for the bonnet and
boot lid of the BMW M4 Coupé models. From March 2023, this contrasting
paint finish accentuating their distinctive sports car character will
be available not only in Black high-gloss but also in Red high-gloss.

New mode 3 charging cable for many all-electric BMW models.

From spring 2023, selected BMW models with all-electric drive that
support AC charging at 22 kW will be given new equipment items from
the BMW Charging range to increase both efficiency and speed when
charging their high-voltage batteries. All model variants of the BMW
iX, the BMW i7 xDrive60 (electric power consumption combined in the
WLTP cycle: 19.6 – 18.4 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km)
and the BMW iX1 xDrive30 (electric power consumption combined in the
WLTP cycle: 18.1 – 16.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km)
will be delivered with a mode 3 charging cable Professional designed
to work with charging capacity of up to 22 kW.

The new mode 3 charging cable Professional enables the use of
extremely high-power AC public charging stations. The maximum usable
charging capacity will now be double that possible with the mode 3
charging cable previously supplied as standard.

BMW Digital Key Plus with extended functions, new
BMW Operating System 9 makes its debut.

In spring 2023, the BMW Digital Key plus already available for many
current BMW models will gain new and extended functions. These include
automatic vehicle unlocking when approaching the car for owners with
Samsung smartphones and other smartphones running the Android
operating system and the UWB (Ultra-Wideband) chip. Added to which,
BMW Digital Keys shared with third parties can be activated more
easily inside the car.

In an initial pilot phase, selected BMW X1 models will be offered
with the new BMW Operating System 9 in the UK from the second quarter
of 2023. This new operating system opens the door to an extended range
of apps, optimised touch control and more frequent updates. Additional
BMW compact-class models will follow suit in other countries over the
course of 2023.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Production due to get underway in November 2022.</pp:summary>

Munich. Now more than ever, the number 7 stands for
driving pleasure, long-distance comfort and pioneering technology.
Just a few months after the world premiere of the fully electric BMW
i7, more new options are set to join the line-up of drive systems
available for the new BMW 7 Series in November 2022. Two plug-in
hybrid (PHEV) variants – including the first BMW M model in the new
BMW 7 Series range – will delight and excite customers in numerous
markets around the world with the combined power of a six-cylinder
in-line petrol engine and an updated electric drive system. This
commitment to electrification also optimises the efficiency of the new
BMW 740d xDrive available in European markets (fuel consumption
combined: 6.8 – 6.1 litres/100 km [41.5 – 46.3 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 178 – 160 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures
for the NEDC cycle: – ), whose six-cylinder in-line diesel engine is
boosted by state-of-the-art 48V mild hybrid technology.

The increased variety of available drive systems opens up a breadth
of experience in terms of driving dynamics, progressive luxury and
feel-good ambience that none of the BMW 7 Series’ rivals can match.
This is the result of a newly developed, flexible vehicle architecture
for the 7 Series and the expression of a globally oriented offer
structure which allows the model range to be adapted individually for
each specific market. The BMW Group is therefore taking into account
the particular customer needs, infrastructure landscape and legal
conditions in the different regions of the world.

Plug-in hybrid innovation from BMW: compact transmission
pre-gearing stage provides even more authoritative electric power.

The drive systems fitted in the two plug-in hybrid models bring
together a six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo
technology and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed
Steptronic transmission. In both cars, the power generated by the two
drive units is channelled to the road via the BMW xDrive intelligent
all-wheel-drive system.

The electric motor fitted in the two models features the latest
generation of BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid models. The
synchronous motor with a specific power output of more than 5.0 kW/kg
has a rated output of 145 kW/197 hp in the two PHEV variants and its
rev band has been stretched to a maximum 11,500 rpm.

In addition, a pre-gearing stage is used to increase the torque
produced by the electric motor to an effective maximum of 450 Nm (332
lb-ft) at the transmission input on the engine side. This innovation,
patented and used for the first time by BMW, enables the electric
drive system integrated into the transmission housing in a compact,
weight-saving design to generate drive torque available either on its
own or in addition to the power developed by the combustion engine
that could normally only be achieved using a far larger and heavier
electric motor. The optimised power delivery achieved with the
pre-gearing stage between the electric motor’s rotor and the
transmission’s input shaft makes a clear difference both when
accelerating off the line and putting in a quick burst of speed.

Premiere in the BMW 7 Series: the first performance car from
BMW M GmbH with a plug-in hybrid drive system.

A performance profile injected with extra sporting potency and an
aura of top-end dynamism mark out the new BMW M760e xDrive (fuel
consumption combined: 1.3 – 1.0 litres/100 km [217.3 – 282.5 mpg imp];
electric power consumption combined: 21.8 – 20.2 kWh/100 km;
CO<sub>2</sub> emissions combined: 29 – 23 g/km in the WLTP cycle;
figures for the NEDC cycle: – ). This is the first performance car
from BMW M GmbH with a plug-in hybrid drive system. The combustion
engine is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line unit with M TwinPower Turbo
technology, a rated output of 280 kW/380 hp and rated torque of 520 Nm
(383 lb-ft). And it teams up with a new electric motor to generate
system output of 420 kW/571 hp (with temporary boost) and system
torque of 800 Nm (590 lb-ft).

The new BMW M760e xDrive accelerates from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph)
in 4.3 seconds and completes the mid-range sprint from 80 – 120 km/h
(50 – 75 mph) in just 2.7 seconds. In so doing, the BMW M760e xDrive
combines intoxicating performance attributes with the option of
locally emission-free driving pleasure in urban areas and beyond.
M-specific design features, interior trim and cockpit displays also
dovetail neatly with the Sedan’s ambience of modern luxury.

In the new BMW 750e xDrive (fuel consumption combined:
1.1 – 1.0 litres/ 100 km [256.8 – 282.5 mpg imp]; electric power
consumption combined:
20.8 – 19.7 kWh/100 km; CO2
emissions combined: 25 – 22 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures for the
NEDC cycle: – ), the new electric drive system again links up with a
3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine, this time developing a rated
output of 230 kW/313 hp and rated torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft).
Working in tandem, the two power sources produce system output of 360
kW/490 hp (with temporary boost) and system torque of 700 Nm (516
lb-ft). This allows the new BMW 750e xDrive to accelerate from 0 to
100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds and from 80 – 120 km/h (50 – 75 mph)
in only 2.7 seconds.

The electric motors for the two plug-in hybrid models source their
energy from a lithium-ion high-voltage battery installed in the
vehicle floor, which is likewise the product of fifth-generation BMW
eDrive technology. At 18.7 kWh, the battery’s usable energy content is
more than 50 per cent higher than that available with the previous
generation of the technology. Maximum AC charging power is 7.4 kW. In
combination with the efficiency of the electric motor and intelligent
energy management including adaptive recuperation, this gives the new
BMW M760e xDrive an electric range of 77 – 85 kilometres / 48 – 53
miles in the WLTP cycle and the new BMW 750e xDrive a range of 83 –
87 kilometres / 52 – 54 miles as per WLTP.

Six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with cutting-edge 48V mild
hybrid technology.

The consistent advances achieved under the banner of BMW
EfficientDynamics also benefit the new diesel engine for the BMW 7
Series. In the new BMW 740d xDrive, an extensively updated combustion
engine teams up with the latest 48V mild hybrid technology featuring
an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic
transmission. The result is maximum output of 220 kW/300 hp (generated
by the combination of the engine with up to 210 kW/286 hp and the
integrated electric motor with up to 13 kW/18 hp) and peak torque von
670 Nm / 494 lb-ft (generated by the combination of the engine with up
to 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) and the integrated electric motor with up to
200 Nm (147 lb-ft)).

The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line diesel powering the
BMW 740d xDrive has new steel pistons which enable particularly high
combustion pressure and enrich the engine’s soundtrack. The
effectiveness of the oil separation process has also been enhanced
compared with the predecessor engine. The new common-rail direct
injection system now works with solenoid valve injectors which provide
up to 12 injections per power stroke with maximum pressure of 2,500 bar.

The latest generation of mild-hybrid technology ensures the
additional power comes on tap with particular immediacy and the level
of recuperation is high, so as to improve efficiency. The electric
motor is integrated – together with its power electronics – into the
housing of the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, where it also
assumes the role of a crankshaft-driven starter generator. The rapid
power delivery of the electrified drive system enables acceleration
from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds. Added to which, the
high-precision interplay between the combustion engine and electric
motor enhances the efficiency and smoothness of the drive system,
making it ideally suited for service in the new BMW 7 Series.

Dingolfing. The first series-produced vehicles of the
new BMW 7 Series have today rolled off the production lines of BMW
Group Plant Dingolfing. In fact, today was a double debut, with the
new top-of-the-range BMW manufactured not only with highly efficient
combustion engines but also as the fully electric BMW i7. Milan
Nedeljković, BMW AG Board Member for Production: “Our new BMW 7 Series
is the first luxury sedan in the world to offer customers a choice
between three types of drive. Whether fully electric,
combustion-powered or, soon, plug-in hybrid, we have the flexible
production structures and outstanding integration skills we need to
manufacture such a diverse range of drives efficiently.”

Over €300 million invested in Dingolfing vehicle plant

The BMW Group invested over €300 million to ready the Dingolfing
vehicle plant for production of the new BMW 7 Series. As it strives
consistently to implement the BMW vision of production of the future,
its largest European plant is increasingly being transformed into a
BMW iFACTORY practising the ‘Lean. Green. Digital.’ approach. For the
first time, the BMW Group is piloting automated manoeuvres within the
production environment by just-made BMW 7 Series vehicles – and
optimising assembly and outbound logistics processes as a result.

BMW i7: The latest milestone on the road to e-mobility in the
luxury segment

With production under way, once sales organisations have been
provided with the show and demonstration vehicles they need, the new
BMW 7 Series will be available to customers worldwide in the autumn of
this year. The BMW i7, especially, marks the next step in the BMW
Group’s electromobility campaign for the luxury segment, which
Dingolfing has come to symbolise. Board Member Milan Nedeljković:
“Exactly a year ago, we were here to celebrate the start of production
of our BMW iX. Today the BMW i7 is the latest milestone on our
journey. Next year will see the launch of the fully electric variant
of the BMW 5 Series as we step up the pace of electromobility and
electrify our core model series.” By the end of 2022, one in four BMWs
leaving Dingolfing is already expected to incorporate an electric
drive, rising to approx. 50 percent of the plant’s total output by the
middle of this decade, according to current plans.

100 percent exchange flexibility between different types of drive

The new BMW 7 Series is assembled on the same line as the BMW 5
Series, 8 Series and the fully electric BMW iX. “We are 100 percent
flexible and able to switch between drive variants for the BMW 7
Series,” explained Christoph Schröder, Plant Director. “This means we
can manufacture completely in line with demand for the various drives
and use our plant capacity as fully as possible.”

BMW 7 Series benefits from product and process modules of the
BMW iX

The new BMW 7 Series builds on various technology modules of the BMW
iX – not just for individual features like the onboard network
architecture, user interface and driver assistance systems but also in
terms of production and validation processes in assembly, for which
the BMW iX was the trailblazer. Examples include the redesigned
aggregate fitting station, sling loop assembly, test rigs for driver
assistance systems and the new finish process, which is now even more
efficient throughout, from first ignition to the vehicle dispatch
area. The BMW iX is currently one of Dingolfing’s most successful vehicles.

Re-using systems, plus the special two-tone paint process

Converted during production shutdowns, the bodyshop was able to
integrate the new BMW 7 Series into the structures previously used to
manufacture the model’s predecessor. By adapting and re-using systems
in this way, the BMW Group has saved hundreds of millions of euros and
a wealth of resources. The floor assemblies of the new BMW 7 Series
have distinct geometries and vary in part, depending on the type of
drive, yet they can all be manufactured completely flexibly in any
combination on one and the same main production line. In addition,
automation – in door fitting, for instance – and a reduction in
material combinations and the bonding processes required have made
processes more efficient. In the paintshop, a special process has been
established for the exclusive two-tone paintwork of the new BMW 7
Series, melding techniques from series production with the manual
painting skills of the Dingolfing specialists.

Inhouse production of e-drive components

The e-drive components of the BMW i7 – specifically the high-voltage
battery and highly integrated electric drive – are also made in
Dingolfing. Like those of the BMW iX, BMW i4 and BMW iX3, they are
manufactured nearby, in the BMW Group Competence Centre for e-Drive Production.

Recently the Competence Centre launched two new production lines,
enabling the facility to produce sufficient e-drives for more than
500,000 electric cars a year. The workforce has also increased, from
approx. 600 in early 2020 to over 2,300 today.

“The transformation to a BMW iFACTORY is well under way”

“With their breakthrough technologies, vehicles like the BMW 7 Series
are catalysts for change – including in our plants,” emphasised Milan
Nedeljković, pointing out that they involve innovations not only in
the product but also in production. “Dingolfing’s transformation into
a BMW iFACTORY is well under way,” added Christoph Schröder. “We have
hundreds of employees working to make our plant more efficient,
flexible and sustainable, with effective innovations and
digitalisation solutions as the key drivers of progress.”

The Lean. Green. Digital. approach of the BMW iFACTORY is already a
reality in the production halls of Plant Dingolfing.

Lean. Flexibility and the widespread rollout of smart
logistics solutions

The aspect of Lean is being realised at Plant Dingolfing to a large
degree by the flexible layout of production structures. “Our
structures give us the exchange flexibility we need to switch between
different models and drive types, the volume flexibility to react
quickly to radically fluctuating demand, and the order flexibility to
accommodate the last-minute changes customers can request up to just a
few days before their car is produced. Here in Dingolfing, flexibility
is simply a part of our DNA,” said Christoph Schröder.

Another example of how digitalisation supports the efficiency goals
of Plant Dingolfing is the comprehensive rollout of smart logistics
solutions. Dingolfing is the company pioneer in this regard, operating
not only automated forklifts but also autonomous tug trains, automated
outdoor logistics solutions and smart transport robots (STRs) that
carry parts to the line-side. Made by the BMW Group subsidiary
Idealworks, STRs are expected to more than double in number to over
200 by the end of 2022 as series production of the BMW 7 Series ramps
up. “Thanks to flexible, automated solutions like this, we have become
extremely efficient at managing the complexity and myriad part numbers
we work with here at the plant,” said Schröder.

Green. Investing in sustainable production

The Green aspect of the BMW iFACTORY and sustainable production in
Plant Dingolfing is realised by a range of measures. These include
sourcing 100 percent green energy, re-using several hundred existing
production robots in the bodyshop, and reducing the consumption of
resources in the paintshop. Here, investments of over €50 million are
currently being made in new cathodic dip lines and a dry separation
system, which will save significant amounts of water and energy. In
addition, the waste heat from the drying furnaces will no longer be
used purely as process heat but also to generate electricity.

Other facets of sustainable production include energy-efficient
systems, packaging planning, traffic logistics, recycling and water
management. On-site transportation, for example, is carried out by
electric truck. Also, Dingolfing currently has a recycling quota of
more than 90 percent and an even higher re-use quota of more than 99
percent. In 2021, this sent total residual waste tumbling to just 580
grams per car produced. And when it comes to water, Dingolfing
currently covers 40 percent of its needs by drawing on its own source,
thereby helping to preserve the region’s drinking water supplies as well.

Digital. Automated quality control by cameras with AI

Intelligent digital solutions are used in all areas of production at
BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, but especially in vehicle assembly – be it
for virtual training, smart scanners, automated AI-based quality
control or automated driving by freshly manufactured vehicles.

When it comes to AI, the BMW Group has proven its pioneering
credentials with its AIQX (Artificial Intelligence Quality Next)
project, which uses sensors and AI to automate quality processes.
Smart camera systems and sensors embedded in the production lines
record data for backend evaluation in real-time using algorithms and
AI. Feedback is then sent directly to employees on the line, via their
smart devices. AIQX can be used to determine variants, verify
completeness and detect any anomalies that may have occurred during
fitting. It is currently operating in 40 applications in production of
the new BMW 7 Series.

The launch of the latest vehicle has also boosted the number of use
cases of IPS-i. This digitalisation project uses an IT platform to
converge data from a wide range of location systems and generate a
digital twin in real-time of the assembly hall. From the use of smart
scanners and screwdrivers to RFID-based verification of the allocation
of parts to vehicles, the IPS-i platform provides the basis for
locating and interconnecting every item – every vehicle, component and
tool – involved in the production process. With the new BMW 7 Series,
RFID-based component tracing alone has been extended to 45 different
part families.

BMW 7 Series pilots automated driving within plant

Production of the new 7 Series also uses a digital innovation with
major potential for assembly and outbound logistics in BMW Group
plants and distribution centres: automated driving in-plant
(‘automatisiertes Fahren im Werk’, AFW). As part of the digitalisation
strategy, the AFW project will be piloted in Dingolfing from July and
sees newly produced BMW 7 Series drive automatically along a 170-metre
route from the first ignition and initial testing area in assembly to
the finish area in the plant. The same method will be used to get
vehicles from the end of the finish line to the dispatch area.

The AFW project was developed by the BMW Group and the two startups
Seoul Robotics and Embotech, who provide the software and technology.
Project manager Sascha Andree explained: “Automated driving within the
plant is fundamentally different from autonomous driving for
customers. It uses a completely different system. So instead of
relying on the vehicle’s sensors, it uses an infrastructure outside
the car to enable environment recognition and plan the vehicle’s
movements.” The route through the logistics areas of the plant is
fitted with sensors that use Seoul Robotics software to generate data
for vehicle localisation and environment recognition. Further
externally based drive-planning software, by Embotech, then steers,
brakes, accelerates and parks the driverless vehicles by sending them
the relevant commands.

AFW is expected to be piloted until 2023 and will initially be rolled
out on other models at Plant Dingolfing as well.

Dingolfing – Home of the BMW 7 Series since 1977

Plant Dingolfing, in Lower Bavaria, has been the home of the flagship
BMW 7 Series since 1977 and is now manufacturing the seventh
generation. It is the BMW Group’s lead plant for large BMWs and has
extensive expertise in production launches as well as decades of
experience in the manufacture of premium vehicles for the luxury
class. To date, Plant Dingolfing has manufactured a grand total of
more than 11 million BMW cars, and a further production milestone is
on the schedule this year: the two millionth BMW 7 Series.

BMW Group Plant Dingolfing – Key facts.

Plant Dingolfing is one of the BMW Group’s more than 30 production
sites around the world and its largest in Europe. Every day around
1,600 BMW 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series and
all-new, fully electric BMW iX vehicles roll off the production lines
in car plant 02.40. In 2021, annual output totalled some 245,000 units.

The site currently employs approx. 17,000 people. It is also training
about 850 apprentices for 15 professions, making it the largest
training organisation in the BMW Group.

Dingolfing manufactures not only cars but also vehicle components,
such as pressed parts and chassis and drive systems. Located in

Munich
. The heads of state and government from the world’s
most important industrialised nations convened at Schloss Elmau in
Upper Bavaria on 26 – 28 June 2022 for the latest G7 summit. The BMW
Group provided a shuttle service for the event, which was initiated by
the German government. As well as the latest series-production models,
the fleet of shuttles also featured three examples of the brand new
BMW i7 xDrive60 (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle:
19.6 – 18.4 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; figures in
NEDC cycle: – ), which was unveiled just a few weeks ago. The presence
of the BMW i7 in the fleet gave the assembled dignitaries the
opportunity to experience the immense driving comfort and futuristic
ambience of the electrically powered sedan a full five months before
its global launch gets underway. A high-security vehicle based on the
new BMW 7 Series will be added to the line-up during the course of
2023. The BMW Group’s Protection Vehicles are tailored to individuals
requiring special protection, and examples with an all-electric drive
system will now be available for the first time.

Over more than 40 years, the BMW Group has amassed exceptional
expertise and experience in the development and manufacture of
vehicles designed specially for the specific requirements of
authorities and public representatives. “We will continue this
tradition in 2023 with a high-security vehicle combining the dynamic
prowess, ride comfort and interior comfort of the new BMW 7 Series
with an integrated protection concept that is unique in this segment,”
says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “And
we will also introduce an all-electric high-security vehicle for the
first time – with no comprises when it comes to the standard of
protection for our customers. It will be based on the BMW i7,
demonstrating how sustainability and security can go hand in hand.”

The vehicle architecture of the new 7 Series range was devised from
the outset for both internal combustion engines and electrified drive
systems. The production development process for the luxury sedan
already made allowance for the next-generation high-security vehicle’s
new and innovative protection concept.

This integrated security concept, together with the “craft
manufacturing” process at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, ensures that the
electric variant of the new high-security vehicle also boasts an
unrivalled combination of protection, poise & assurance,
spaciousness and sustainability. “The new BMW i7 brings together a
unique, all-electric driving experience with the most advanced package
of technologies anywhere in the industry,” says Frank Weber, Member of
the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Development. “So
using this high-tech product as a platform for a top-class
high-security vehicle seemed to us like the obvious thing to do.”

The BMW Group presented a concept vehicle demonstrating the
compatibility of increased protection levels and sustainable mobility
back at the IAA Mobility 2021 event. The BMW Concept iX5 Hydrogen
Protection VR6 was equipped with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive
system, making it the first ever concept for a high-security vehicle
from a large-scale carmaker worldwide to offer zero tailpipe emissions
and certified class VR6 protection.

The fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, electric power
consumption and operating range figures are determined according to
the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable. They
refer to vehicles in the German market. Where a range is shown, the
figures take into account the impact of any optional extras.

All values were calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP
values are taken as the basis for determining vehicle-related taxes or
other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO2 emissions
as well as eligibility for any applicable vehicle-specific subsidies.
Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures can
also be found at www.bmw.de/wltp.

Further information on official fuel consumption figures and specific
CO2 emission values of new passenger cars is included in
the following guideline: 'Leitfaden über den Kraftstoffverbrauch, die
CO2-Emissionen und den Stromverbrauch neuer
Personenkraftwagen' (Guide to the fuel economy, CO2
emissions and electric power consumption of new passenger cars), which
can be obtained free of charge from all dealerships, from Deutsche
Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760

Goodwood. All eyes will be on BMW M GmbH at the 2022
Goodwood Festival of Speed, as BMW’s legendary Motorsport division
celebrates five decades of success. Festivalgoers will witness the
world premiere of the first-ever BMW M3 Touring and the UK premiere of
the new BMW M4 CSL, as both take to the hill throughout the
world-famous four-day event. All this against the backdrop of a
striking central feature sculpture on the lawn of Goodwood House,
designed as a homage to 50 years of motorsport excellence as it
showcases some of the most iconic models from BMW M. Elsewhere,
visitors will be able to see – and in some cases, drive – the latest
models from BMW’s exciting range, including the new BMW iX1, i7, i4
and iX M60.

For the first time in its history, the BMW M range will be
complemented by a BMW M3 Touring which is a distillation of the
technological prowess and know-how from the BMW M3 and M4 family,
combined with the practicality of a five-door touring model. This
latest BMW M model will be unveiled at BMW M at Trackside at 10:00 am
(BST) on Thursday 23 June, alongside a high-performance M3 Touring
with Performance Parts, and can then be seen on the Hillclimb in the
‘First Glance’ category every day of the Festival.

Alongside the M3 Touring and BMW M3 Touring MotoGP Safety Car on the
hill will be the new BMW M4 CSL, celebrating its UK premiere. This
ultimate, track-honed, two-seater coupe is defined by a 40hp power
hike over the current BMW M4 Competition Coupé to 550hp, while
meticulous weight-saving measures – including the use of carbon-fibre
for the roof, bonnet and boot lid – achieve a 100kg reduction in
overall weight (in standard specification in the German market). As a
result, the new BMW M4 CSL has recorded the best-ever lap-time for a
BMW road car at the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit.

With BMW M GmbH as the honoured marque, the Central Feature in front
of Goodwood House will present an eye-catching display of BMW M cars
past, present and future. BMW UK will add its legendary BMW 3.0 CSL to
the Central Feature, while BMW Group Classic is providing three
further examples: the BMW M1 Procar from the late 1970s; a WTCC BMW 3
Series E90; the Le Mans winning 1999 BMW V12 LMR. The display is
completed by the BMW M LMDh racecar, that will debut next year.

Besides providing historic BMW M cars for the Central Feature, BMW
Group Classic will bring four additional famous race cars to
Goodwood’s Hillclimb. Pedro Piquet (BRA), son of three-time F1 World
Champion Nelson Piquet, will drive the world’s first turbo-charged F1
World Champion car, the 1983 Brabham BMW BT52.

Steve Soper (UK) will climb the hill in the BMW V12 LMR on Thursday.
He is followed by Markus Flasch (CEO of BMW M GmbH, 2018-2021), who
will be in the driver’s seat on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

HRH Leopold Prince of Bavaria (GER) will drive the sharknose BMW
635CSi and Bruno Spengler (CAN) will drive his famous BMW Z4 GTR which
features the Michel Vaillant Design from the 2015 Spa-Francorchamps
24h race.

For many, BMW M at Trackside will form the focal point for the long
weekend’s celebrations. Crowned by an original BMW M1, the stand will
host iconic models from BMW M’s illustrious past, from the legendary
BMW M3 E30 to the revered BMW M3 CSL E46. They will take their place
alongside a thrilling line-up of modern-day BMW M greats, from the
ultimate 635hp BMW M5 CS and track-honed BMW M4 GT3 to the exclusive
new BMW M850i Convertible and innovative electric BMW i4 M50. Visitors
will be able to catch a glimpse of the future for BMW M, with the
innovative BMW Concept XM, a vision of uncompromising high performance
and extravagant luxury.

The Stable Yard – once again dedicated to BMW’s latest range of
all-electric and electrified models – will offer the chance to see the
stunning BMW i Vision Circular, a concept which illustrates the
company’s determination to become the most sustainable manufacturer.
Optimised for the circular economy and with the goal of achieving 100%
recycled and recyclable material use, the BMW i Vision Circular offers
a view of a compact yet luxurious fully-electric vehicle with a focus
on sustainability for the year 2040.

BMW’s sustainability focus is equally apparent in the new BMW i7, on
display in The Stable Yard following its recent unveiling. The latest
version of the brand’s flagship saloon is set to redefine the luxury
segment with new levels of electrification and digitalisation. Its
state-of-the-art all-electric drivetrain is complemented by a blend of
luxurious interior design and an astonishing entertainment experience,
with the multi-sensory BMW iDrive and unique 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre
Screen. These attributes are further displayed in the powerful new BMW
M760e, a plug-in hybrid with 571hp that delivers scintillating
performance yet achieves remarkable efficiency.

The recently revealed BMW iX1 will make its UK debut at Goodwood
Festival of Speed, representing another first at the Stable Yard. The
third-generation BMW X1 features a sharper design, across-the-board
sustainability and cutting-edge digital innovations. Available for the
first time with an all-electric drive system, the BMW iX1 xDrive30 is
set to offer an electric driving range between 257 – 272 miles (WLTP,
provisional figures).

These models will also be joined by the company’s technology
flagship, the new BMW iX M60, a fully-electric Sports Activity Vehicle
that combines emissions-free driving pleasure and sporting agility
with lounge-style luxury and comfort. Powered by two BMW M eDrive
electric motors to provide intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive
capability, the BMW iX M60 can accelerate from 0-62 mph in a seamless
3.8 seconds, yet still achieve up to 348 miles (WLTP) of driving range
on a single charge.

Members of the public will be able to experience the BMW iX M60’s
searing performance for themselves during Friday’s ‘Electric Only’
Motor Circuit Test Drives, where they’ll also be able to take to the
circuit behind the wheel of the new BMW i4, the brand’s first-ever
fully-electric Gran Coupé, and the practical BMW iX3.

Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M, said: “There can be no better place to
celebrate our 50th anniversary than among our fans at this year’s
Goodwood Festival of Speed, surrounded by the iconic cars that have
cemented our position in motorsport history. But we’ll also spend our
time at the world-famous event looking to the future, with a selection
of exciting new models from our innovative electrified line-up, and
the global premiere of the eagerly-anticipated first-ever BMW M3 Touring.”

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is being held over four days from
23-26 June 2022.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. The new all-electric BMW i7 ushers in a new
era of hallmark driving pleasure and individual mobility in the luxury
segment. For the launch campaign of this automotive milestone, the BMW
Group collaborated with world-renowned British fashion photographer
and artist Nick Knight. "The BMW i7 is engineering at its highest
level. Accordingly, it was our ambition to have the car photographed
by an internationally renowned artist and staged as a work of art. The
extraordinary collaboration with Nick Knight has been very inspiring
for all of us. Never before has a BMW been staged in such an artistic
and progressive way," explains Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice
President Customer & Brand at BMW AG.

This is Forwardism: The new all-electric BMW i7 marks the beginning
of a new era, captured by Nick Knight in a unique series of images and
videos. The art term Forwardism describes the joy of seeing and
feeling the future even before it is created. This concept is about
constantly questioning and challenging common conventions in order to
have the best possible experiences and create a better future. The
result of this photo shoot is an expressive, sensual and equally
aesthetically innovative series of images that turns classic visual
habits on their head. The photographs and videos seem to be painted
with light and take the viewer into a colourful world of new
possibilities and emotions.

"I like the idea that Forwardism is about moving into the future
rather than referring to the past. For me, this is the only way we can
really express ourselves and set challenging goals. That's why I
decided to invert the colours for these photographs and to work in a
colour space which expresses the idea: “This is new, this is something
you haven't seen before”. That was the starting point for this
project, to encourage people to think forward. It was especially
important to me that it looks different from anything you've seen
before", is how Nick Knight describes his work.

Daring, playful and thought-provoking.

Nick Knight is one of the most influential and visionary
photographers of our time. For decades, the British fashion
photographer has been breaking with classical conventions in his work,
constantly exploring artistic and technical boundaries. With his
creative collaborations with leading designers, the artist, born in
1958, has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the
world of fashion photography. Through his lens, he challenges
conventional notions of beauty, tackles controversial social issues
and plays with illusion and truth. He passionately experiments with
the latest technologies and combines them with classical photography
in his works. And he keeps reinventing himself and his art.

The campaign was realised by the lead agency The Game and directed by
the multi-award-winning executive director Thim Wagner. "It was a
very great honour to work with Nick Knight. I have been following his
work for decades and I know he has always been ahead of his time.
That's what connects him to BMW - this sense of "never standing
still, always evolving".

Daring, playful and thought-provoking - these are the attributes that
have summed up Nick Knight's work for years. The campaign for the
market launch of the new BMW i7 could not be described more aptly.

Press Contact: Cypselus von Frankenberg
Tel: +49-89-382-30641
E-mail: cypselus.von-frankenberg@bmw.de

BMW i,Press Release,G70,i7,Lifestyle Products,Product,BMW

Munich. The new, all-electric BMW i7 (energy
consumption combined according to WLTP: 19.6–18.4 kWh/100 km; energy
consumption combined according to NEDC: –; CO2 emissions:
0 g/km) heralds a new era for the brand’s quintessential driving
pleasure and exclusive travel comfort. It embodies the innovative form
of individual mobility in the luxury segment and also expresses this
through the creation of holistic sound worlds. These range from the
welcome scenario to the ready-to-drive signal and the drive sounds for
each selected My Mode through to the acoustic soundscapes combined
with the BMW Theatre Screen, available here for the first time. With
the factory-fitted BMW IconicSounds Electric, the brand’s locally
emission-free premium model offers entirely new soundscapes that are
generated by the interaction between driver and vehicle and are a core
component in the design of a unique driving experience.

Including the exclusive soundscapes for the optional Theatre Mode,
the complete sound spectrum of BMW IconicSounds Electric can be
experienced for the first time in the new BMW i7. The sounds, which
are unique in the automotive sector, have been developed in a
collaboration between the BMW Group and two-time Academy Award winning
composer Hans Zimmer. They reinforce the authentic agreement of the
vehicle’s character with BMW design and the resulting driving
experience in the world’s first all-electric luxury saloon.

The sound experience in the BMW i7 can be individually selected via
My Modes. In addition to Personal, Sport and Efficient settings, the
modes Expressive and Relax are also available as standard. In the BMW
i7, each of these modes is also associated with an independent sound
world. The intensity and frequency of the drive sound are based on the
position of the accelerator and the driving situation, creating an
individually customised sound profile for each My Mode. The close
interaction between driver and vehicle thus creates a distinctive
acoustic backdrop. Selecting either the Expressive or the Relax mode
results in a particularly intense interaction. They enable the driver
of the BMW i7 to create an individual, holistic user experience of
sound, lighting mood and graphics on the BMW Curved Display, shaped by
the driver’s mood and driving style.

The new BMW i7 has a model-specific sound application that
authentically emphasises the future-oriented character and exclusive
driving experience in the all-electric luxury saloon. "We want to
offer customers a unique driving and travel experience in the BMW i7.
In the area of user experience, we are breaking new ground to achieve
this, which also includes the drive sound," explains Domagoj
Dukec, Head of BMW Design. "Sound in particular plays a central
role in the emotional connection between the driver and his vehicle.
Innovations such as BMW IconicSounds Electric make the BMW i7 a
pioneer for a new, holistic driving experience."

With My Modes, the driver can create an all-round user experience
that includes a wide range of vehicle settings. In the BMW i7, this
includes the drive sound. The spherical sounds of the Personal setting
emphasise the progressive character of the model, while the soundscape
in the Sport setting has a powerful and pronounced acoustic presence.
A very lively and dynamic sound characterises the acoustic experience
in Expressive mode, while an immensely relaxing sound backdrop is
created in Relax mode. The characteristic sound sequences when
starting and switching off the drive system are part of BMW
IconicSounds Electric, as are the sounds that accompany the activation
of the optional Theatre Screen for passengers in the back.

The acoustic feedback from the movements of the accelerator is only
completely suppressed in Efficient mode. Due to the outstanding
acoustic vehicle characteristics of the new BMW i7, the resulting
silence in this mode is as clear and pure as the intensive sound
experience in the other modes. The all-electric luxury saloon has
optimised soundproofing that effectively insulates the interior from
external noises. The excellent acoustic comfort of the new BMW i7 can
be attributed to the acoustic optimisation of the electric drive
units, a model-specific storage concept and newly developed noise
encapsulation for electric motors, as well as the chassis’ increased
rigidity at the front and tyres with foam absorbers. In addition,
aerodynamic noises are significantly reduced thanks to clearly
designed chassis surfaces, flush-mounted door handles and
aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors as well as an almost fully

BMW is leading the luxury segment into a new era that will be shaped
by innovations in the fields of sustainability and digitalisation.
With the new BMW 7 Series, the world’s most successful manufacturer of
premium vehicles is creating forward-looking ways to enjoy driving
pleasure, unsurpassed long-distance comfort and a top-end digital
experience. Central to this reinterpretation is the BMW i7. The
all-electric luxury sedan is a fully integrated member of the model
family and clearly demonstrates how an exclusive driving experience
and the ultimate feeling of on-board wellbeing can be combined with an
unwavering commitment to sustainability.

The generation change at the pinnacle of BMW’s model range is wrapped
up in a new definition of luxury that focuses on the individual and
their personal attitudes, needs and emotions. In addition to presence,
elegance and exclusive premium quality, there is a progressive
approach characterised by innovations that directly enhance the user
experience, wide-ranging connectivity and standard-setting
sustainability of the car. In this way, the new BMW 7 Series has been
designed to meet the needs of a modern target group that sees itself
as committed to meeting challenges in a responsible manner – and one
that views personal mobility as a way to experience unique moments in
everyday life and on trips away.

A symbol of innovative strength and a milestone in the current
model offensive.

The new BMW 7 Series incorporates a modern style that focuses on the
essentials in its exterior and interior design. The front-end design
for BMW vehicles in the luxury segment is dominated by features that
are typical of the brand, but a clear distinction is maintained
between these models and the others in the BMW range. Innovative
features such as the BMW Theatre Screen, the multi-sensory vehicle
experience BMW iDrive with the latest generation of BMW Operating
System 8, plus the BMW Curved Display and the Manoeuvre Assistant for
automated parking and manoeuvring, highlight the progressive character
of the luxury sedan. In addition to the enhanced level of comfort and
the unique in-car entertainment system, the Executive Lounge option
for the rear with optimised reclining seat position and new BMW
Individual Merino leather/cashmere wool interior trim takes a
pioneering route to maximising wellbeing inside the car.

45 years on from the debut of the BMW 7 Series, the seventh model
generation takes to the stage as the most advanced and innovative
vehicle in the luxury segment. At the same time, the new edition
captures the imagination with an overall design coherence unmatched by
any rival. The BMW 7 Series is therefore once again a symbol of the
BMW Group’s innovative strength.

The world premiere of the new BMW 7 Series in April 2022 and its
global market launch starting in November 2022 are the key milestones
in the brand’s current model offensive in the luxury segment.

Market-specific drive system portfolio, tradition-rich
production location.

The new BMW 7 Series was designed from the ground up for particularly
demanding target groups in a globalised marketplace. This is also
reflected in a market-specific drive system portfolio that includes
exclusive offerings for China – as the company’s most important sales
region – and a diesel model for Europe.

The new generation of luxury sedans from BMW opens up a whole new
dimension in spaciousness. Unlike its predecessors, the new BMW 7
Series will be available worldwide exclusively as a long-wheelbase
model that maximises space in the rear. Different facets of its
character are defined by the use of specific design features and drive
system variants. The new BMW 7 Series range also includes models from
the BMW i and BMW M brands, which allow its myriad characteristics –
from elegant, modern and sustainable to expressive, sporty and dynamic
– to be brought prominently to the fore.

The new BMW 7 Series now offers a choice of combustion engines,
plug-in hybrid systems and all-electric drive for the first time ever.
The degree of diversity in the drive system portfolio is based on a
newly developed flexible vehicle architecture and is an expression of
a global model strategy for the new edition of the BMW 7 Series. This
enables the BMW Group to take into consideration a customer’s
individual needs, infrastructure factors and legal regulations in all
relevant automotive markets around the world. The market launch in
Europe will initially feature only the BMW i7. In the USA, China and
other selected sales regions, two models will be offered at market
launch in addition to the all-electric variant, each equipped with a
petrol engine and 48V mild hybrid technology.

Plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 7 Series are expected to
follow in numerous markets from the beginning of 2023. These will
include the first BMW M model with a six-cylinder in-line petrol
engine and plug-in hybrid drive system. A model variant with a diesel
engine and 48V mild hybrid technology will be added to the range in
Europe just after the market launch. Further variants of the
all-electric BMW i7, including the future top-of-the-line BMW i7 M70
xDrive, will be made available at a later stage.

As was the case with all its predecessors, the new BMW 7 Series will
be built at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The company’s largest
production facility in Europe will be fusing tradition with the future
and is also the BMW Group’s centre of excellence for the production of
e-drive components. The highly integrated electric drive system and
the high-voltage battery of the BMW i7 will also be manufactured
there. Vehicles with combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems and
all-electric drive systems will come off the same production line in
Dingolfing. In addition to the all-electric BMW iX and the new BMW 7
Series, the BMW 8 Series luxury sports car and BMW 5 Series models,
among others, are also produced here.

Two BMW M models based on the new BMW 7 Series.

The new BMW 7 Series model range worldwide will expand to include two
BMW M models equipped with electrified drive systems. The new BMW
M760e xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 1.3 – 1.0 l/100 km [217.3 –
256.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.8 – 20.2
kWh/100 km; CO<sub>2</sub> emissions: 29 – 23 g/km in the WLTP cycle;
figures in NEDC cycle: –) has output of 420 kW/571 hp and torque of
800 Nm (590 lb-ft) and will debut as early as spring 2023. Its
electric motor generates a temporary boost worth an extra 30 kW/40 hp
when particularly invigorating acceleration is the order of the day.
An M-specific design for the exterior and interior, including an
exhaust system featuring the distinctive twin tailpipes with unique
geometry, underscores the performance characteristics of the BMW M
model with plug-in hybrid technology.

The future flagship model, the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive (power
consumption combined in the WLTP cycle: 26.4 – 21.2 kWh/100 km;
CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; figures in NEDC cycle: – ), will
have an all-electric drive system with two motors – on the front and
rear axle – and will be available later in 2023. Its drive system
generates maximum output of well over 600 hp and maximum torque of
more than 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The most powerful BMW model ever
registered for road use accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in
under 4.0 seconds. (All output, performance and energy consumption
figures for the BMW i7 M70 xDrive are estimates based on the car’s
current development stage incl. temporary boost.)

Unique digital experience with the new vehicle experience BMW
iDrive and BMW Operating System 8.

Driving pleasure, long-distance comfort and the user experience in
the new BMW 7 Series are shaped largely by the latest innovations in
the field of digitalisation. The new BMW 7 Series offers customers the
new multi-sensory vehicle experience BMW iDrive with the latest
generation of BMW Operating System 8. With the fully digital BMW
Curved Display, the innovative BMW Interaction Bar, the enhanced
capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant – plus
additional My Modes, the latest version of the BMW Head-Up Display,
and the Augmented View function available for the first time on the
information display behind the steering wheel – intuitive dialogue
between the driver and vehicle has reached a new level.

Passengers in the rear are greeted by a unique entertainment offering
in the form of the new BMW Theatre Screen – a 31.3-inch panoramic
display in 32:9 format with 8K resolution which extends downwards from
the roof and transforms the second row of seats into an exclusive
private cinema on wheels. The driver and front passenger can also use
YouTube video-on-demand streaming on the control display for the first
time. A 5G-compatible aerial system takes care of high-speed
connectivity in the new BMW 7 Series.

Security redefined: the new BMW 7 Series in BMW Protection
Vehicle specification.

A high-security vehicle based on the new BMW 7 Series is now being
developed and will be added to the range in the course of 2023. With
its integrated protection concept, which is unique in the segment and
has been developed entirely from scratch, the armoured model variant
meets the special requirements of authorities, state representatives
and high-profile individuals in need of special protection.

The development of the new high-security BMW 7 Series centres on an
innovative protection concept developed by the BMW Group. This
provides extremely high standards of security combined with the levels
of interior comfort, driving dynamics and ride comfort applied across
the new BMW 7 Series range. Integrated development and production in a
special manufacturing process at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing will
ensure the high-security vehicle based on the new BMW 7 Series sets
new standards.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

The testing programme is also designed to ensure electromagnetic compatibility.</pp:summary>

Munich. The BMW i7 (combined power consumption: 22.5
– 19.5 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; forecast
based on the vehicle’s development status to date) is being developed
with the aim of combining hallmark driving pleasure with a level of
comfort that is in a class of its own. One key factor here is the
acoustic properties. The level of well-being in the interior of the
purely electrically powered luxury sedan is largely determined by the
degree to which disturbing noises can be kept away from the occupants.
There are a variety of potential noise sources to be taken into
account here, so near-production prototypes of the BMW i7 – and indeed
all other model variants of the future BMW 7 Series – undergo an
extensive programme as part of their acoustic testing.

At the Research and Innovation Centre (FIZ) in Munich, test and
development engineers check the full range of the vehicle’s sound
emissions and immissions. Motor and rolling noise are analysed in
detail, as are the aeroacoustics and vibration comfort, in order to
fully determine the acoustic properties of the new luxury sedans. This
also includes precise alignment of acoustic pedestrian protection and
the motor sound emitted in the interior of the BMW i7 – the latter
having been developed as part of BMW IconicSounds Electric, a
collaborative venture between the BMW Group and Hollywood film music
composer Hans Zimmer.

The driver of the BMW i7 has a choice: characteristic silence
or BMW IconicSounds Electric developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.

The acoustic test benches at the new branch of the BMW Group’s
Research and Innovation Centre FIZ North are specially designed to
meet the requirements of electromobility and enable all driving
situations to be simulated realistically. Here, any irritating noises
registered by development engineers during test drives on the road can
be recreated and selectively eliminated. Roller dynamometers with a
unique quiescent level and interchangeable surface coverings enable
the measurement and validation of drive acoustics and tyre noise on
all road surfaces that are relevant to day-to-day traffic anywhere in
the world.

The BMW i7 aspires to redefine the high standards of the luxury
segment – and this very much applies to acoustic comfort as well.
Great importance was attached to noiseless power delivery of the
electric motor. Contributing factors here include acoustic
optimisation of the electric drive units, a model-specific mount
concept and a newly developed noise encapsulation for the electric
motors. Taken together, these measures enable the BMW i7 to achieve
effective acoustic decoupling across a wide frequency range, thereby
ensuring maximum acoustic comfort in the interior in all driving
situations. As a result, the driver of the purely electrically powered
luxury sedan always has the choice of enjoying either the
characteristic silence of the motor or the emotionally powerful BMW
IconicSounds Electric developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.

Increased body rigidity at the front end and tyres with a foam
absorber on the inside for integrated noise insulation likewise help
raise the acoustic and vibration comfort of the new luxury sedans to
an outstanding level.

Acoustic testing on the climatic test bench and in the wind tunnel.

In order to be able to test the effectiveness of all measures under
extreme climatic conditions too, the development engineers at FIZ
North use an acoustic climate test bench specially designed for this
purpose. Here, all globally relevant conditions can be simulated and a
wide variety of noise sources can be analysed and optimised such as
the acoustics of the air conditioning and ventilation system
throughout the entire vehicle – in particular at very low or very high temperatures.

In the same way as the motor and tyre rolling acoustics, ambient
noise can also be selectively reduced. For this purpose, the
aeroacoustics of the BMW i7 are perfected in the acoustic wind tunnel.
Clear-cut body surfaces, flush-integrated door handles,
aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors and an almost completely
closed underbody not only contribute to the low air resistance of the
luxury sedan, they also help create its excellent acoustics.

Innovative materials for optimised sound insulation.

In addition to the noise and vibrations emanating from the vehicle
itself, it is primarily the noise sources from the outside that can
impair the experience of comfort while driving. The new acoustic
simulator at FIZ North enables the noise emitted in day-to-day traffic
to be simulated under laboratory conditions – this includes the sounds
made at road construction sites and by passing trucks, for example.
Numerous loudspeakers are used to project these sounds onto the
vehicle prototypes from all directions to test the effectiveness of
the interior noise insulation.

Highly effective and also weight-optimised sound insulation is
enabled by the use of innovative materials developed in conjunction
with acoustic lightweight construction. One of the ways in which
outstanding shielding of external and intrinsic noise is achieved is
by means of sound absorbers incorporated in the pillar trim, seats,
roof liner and rear shelf. Together with the comfort glazing, which
prevents unwelcome noise from entering through the window panes, this
adds the final touch of perfection to the customer experience. There
are also fleece elements in the doors and on the sill and wheel arch
trim which reduce rolling noise, thereby maximising the experience of comfort.

Intense testing of electromagnetic compatibility.

With their detailed analyses and precise optimisation, the
development and test engineers seek to ensure that the new luxury
sedans offer the best comfort experience ever realised in a BMW. This
also includes an analysis of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In
the so-called EMC absorber hall at the FIZ, prototypes of the new
luxury sedans are exposed to powerful electromagnetic fields so as to
test the susceptibility of their electrical systems to interference
and see how they interact with the environment.

The test engineers are able to analyse the diagnostic results
transmitted from the vehicle in real time via fibre optic cables. The
test programme in the EMC absorber hall enables comprehensive
protection of the entire vehicle, ensuring absolutely reliable
functioning of the suspension control and assistance systems and
interference-free reception of online data, telephone, radio, TV and
navigation signals.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. With the consistent expansion of its range to
further vehicle segments, the BMW Group is pushing ahead with the
transformation to electric mobility. During the forthcoming year, the
Munich-based premium automobile manufacturer will already present the
world’s first all-electric luxury sedan – the BMW i7 (power
consumption combined: 22.5 – 19.5 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2
emissions: 0 g/km; prognosis based on the vehicle’s current level of
development). Within the framework of its series development process,
the BMW i7 is currently undergoing driving dynamics testing on the
premises of the BMW Group winter test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden.
There, just a few kilometres away from the Arctic Circle, test
engineers find the frozen surfaces and snow-covered roads offering the
ideal preconditions for the integrated application of all drive and
suspension systems. With the test programme held in the biting cold,
they pave the way to a new interpretation of luxury driving pleasure.
For the first time, it will be possible to experience a maximum in
characteristic BMW dynamics, comfort and supremacy in the luxury class
with absolutely zero local emissions.

The suspension components, steering and braking systems as well as
driving dynamics and vehicle stability systems developed for the
future generation of the BMW 7 Series are designed to raise the
balance between sportiness and ride comfort so typical of the brand’s
luxury sedans to the next level. This also includes
performance-oriented tuning of the wheel suspension, springs, dampers
and various regulating systems to match the various different drive
types. They all undergo intensive testing in Arjeplog under extreme
climate conditions.

In Lapland’s winter landscape, the test engineers find the perfect
preconditions for this. During test drives around the snow-covered
roads around Arjeplog, they are able to test and optimise all
functions under extremely challenging conditions in order to achieve
an absolutely harmonious and BMW-typical driving experience. Moreover,
they make use of test surfaces on frozen lakes with their low road
friction coefficient in order to achieve particularly fine tuning of
suspension control systems. The steering application undergoes
meticulous tuning as do the numerous functions of the Dynamic
Stability Control system (DSC) and the accurately regulated
interaction between friction brake and deceleration by means of energy recuperation.

The winter programme also focuses in particular on the components of
the all-electric drive system. The BMW i7’s electric drive,
high-voltage battery, power electronics and charging technology all
originate from the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology, which
already provides for sustainable driving pleasure in the BMW iX. Above
all, it is the motor, the battery and the temperature control system
of the BMW i7 that prove their high level of maturity in extreme
sub-zero temperatures in the north of Sweden.

With the BMW i7, the brand’s current model offensive in the luxury
segment is being continued in a particularly progressive way. For the
first time, it is possible to experience a luxury sedan that is
characterised by elegance, ride comfort and supremacy without
restriction and in conjunction with a purely electric drive system.
The BMW i7 is based on the same vehicle concept as all further model
variants of the BMW 7 Series. This integrated development also
guarantees locally emission-free driving with the characteristic
combination of both sporty and comfort-oriented handling properties
along with the exclusive spaciousness of a BMW luxury sedan.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.
