Munich. From the spring of 2017, the new BMW 5
Series, the sportiest and most innovative business sedan in its
segment, will also set new standards in terms of efficiency. The new
BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition impresses with a combined fuel
consumption level of 4.3 to 3.9 litres per 100 kilometres (combined
CO2 emission level: 114 – 102 g/km). Also, from March 2017,
groundbreaking innovations in the areas of networking and operating,
now being presented for the first time in the BMW 5 Series, will find
their way into further model series – the digital parking space search
service On-Street Parking Information and the live tile arrangement of
the menu on the Control Display.

With a further extended range of driver assistance systems, the BMW 7
Series is making further advancements on the way to automated driving.
The spectrum now also includes, amongst other things, the Lane
Departure Assistant, ActiveAssist Collision Avoidance, Cross-Traffic
and Wrong-Way Driving Alert as well as the Remote 3D View function.
From the spring of 2017, BMW 6 Series models will underpin their
exclusive and sporty aura with attractive innovations included in the
range of special equipment options. The Digital Charging Service, an
innovative feature for convenient and economical charging of the
high-voltage battery, will become available exclusively for BMW i and
BMW iPerformance automobiles. From March 2017, new and exceedingly
high-quality options will be added to the range of special equipment
for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 4 Series as well as for the models
BMW X5 and BMW X6.

BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition: greater driving pleasure,
less CO2.
As from March 2017, the driving
pleasure that is characteristic of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will be
combined with the lowest fuel consumption and emission levels in this
vehicle segment. The new BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition is powered
by a 2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine featuring BMW TwinPower
Turbo technology, delivering a maximum power output of 140 kW/190 hp
and a peak torque of 400 Newton metres available between 1,750 and
2,500 rpm. The Sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and
achieves a combined fuel consumption of between 4.3 and 3.9 litres per
100 kilometres and CO2 emission levels of between 114 and 102 grams
per kilometres (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected
tyre size). The power unit of the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition
features, inter alia, a turbo charger mounted on anti-friction
bearings, high pressure exhaust gas recirculation, a map-controlled
oil pump and further developed Common Rail direct injection
technology, the solenoid injectors of which ensure precise fuel dosing
with a maximum pressure of 2,000 bar.

In addition to the optimised efficiency of both the engine and the
standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, enhanced aerodynamic
characteristics as well as the Sedan’s greatly reduced weight vs. its
predecessor also contribute towards achieving the favourable fuel
consumption and CO2 emission levels. Moreover, in order to optimise
emission behaviour, the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition is equipped
with BMW BluePerformance technology, which in addition to the
particulate filter, an oxidation catalyst and a NOX storage catalyst,
also features an SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection
technology reducing nitrogen oxide emissions even further.

On-Street Parking Information in further BMW models and
available for additional towns and cities.
Starting in March 2017, thanks to intelligent
networking, drivers will be provided in a large number of BMW models
not only with real-time information on the traffic situation, but will
also receive assistance in finding a parking space in major urban
areas. The BMW ConnectedDrive Service Real Time Traffic Information
(RTTI), which is available in conjunction with the navigation system
Professional, will also be complemented by the unique On-Street
Parking Information function. Similar to the RTTI feature, this
digital service uses intelligent networking to assess the availability
of free road-side parking spaces from both pre-stored and current
data. The calculated probability of finding a free parking space at
the destination is displayed to the driver by means of coloured
markings on the navigation map depicted on the Control Display.

In future, the On-Street Parking Information service will make
finding a parking space far easier in as many as ten German cities. In
addition to Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt
and Stuttgart, the availability of parking spaces will also be
analysed in real time in Nuremberg, Bremen and Hanover as from March
2017. The function, which is being featured for the first time in the
new BMW 5 Series Sedan, is now available for all current models with
the exception of the BMW X1, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the
BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.

Even more intuitive: Navigation system Professional with
animated buttons arranged as tiles.
The
latest innovations for the display and control concept, which made
their debut in the new BMW 5 Series, will be available for further
series as from March 2017. In conjunction with the navigation system
Professional, the Control Display of the iDrive system will, thanks to
a new enhanced graphic representation, facilitate even more intuitive
operation in the BMW 7 Series and BMW 6 Series as well as in all
variants of the BMW M6. The on-board monitor displays menus in the
form of horizontally arranged buttons with a tile structure. These six
buttons, the order of which can be individually configured by the
driver, are displayed in the main menu on two sides of the screen.
This ensures more convenient and faster access to the desired content.
A new menu option is “Messages”, allowing access to incoming text
messages and e-mails as well as information on the vehicle’s operating condition.

These functions, which are available using the menu selection, are
symbolised by animated graphics in live mode. For example, in the
overview and by means of a displayed map section, the navigation menu
button already displays the route the vehicle is currently travelling
on, whilst the entertainment menu graphics show the title of the song
currently playing, including album cover, or the name of the selected
radio station.

BMW 7 Series with additional driver assistance systems and
Remote 3D View.
From the spring of 2017,
there will be an even broader choice of driver assistance systems to
ensure even greater driving pleasure, comfort and safety in 7 Series
models. From March 2017, the systems will be included in the optional
equipment package Driving Assistant Plus. They offer the driver
effective assistance in many different situations, leading the way to
automated driving. For example, the Steering and Lane Guidance
Assistant being presented in the luxury sedans for the first time will
be complemented by the Lane Change Assistant, which can be used when
driving on motorways and other roads with separated directional
carriageways. At speeds of between 70 and 180 km/h, the driver can
initiate a lane change by holding the indicator lever in the one-touch
position. The system sensors then analyse the situation on the
neighbouring carriageway. If they detect that this lane is clear and
there are no vehicles approaching at a high speed, the steering
assistant conveniently helps the driver to change lanes.

A further addition to the range of Driving Assistant Plus functions
is the ActiveAssist Collision Avoidance system. Should a rapid lane
change become necessary in order to avoid a suddenly appearing
obstacle, it provides steering assistance at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The Cross Traffic Alert function, also included in the equipment
package as from March, provides visual and acoustic signals if the
traffic signs identified by the stereo camera should indicate that the
driver has overlooked a road with right of way. The new Driving
Assistant Plus features are complemented by the Wrong-Way Driving
Alert feature. This system analyses navigation data in order to
provide information on hazardous situations. It intervenes when the
vehicle is driving in the wrong direction into one-way streets,
roundabouts or motorway entrances.

In conjunction with the Surround View system, a feature that provides
assistance with a combination of camera images taken from several
different perspectives when the vehicle is manoeuvring in tricky
situations, drivers of a BMW 7 Series will in future also have access
to the Remote 3D View feature, the Surround View system of which
provides them with permanent access to a three-dimensional live image
of their vehicle and its surroundings, this being transmitted to their
smartphone via the BMW Connected feature.

New option for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 4 Series:
Multifunctional instrument display.
From
March 2017, a novel feature in the field of display technology will
also ensure an even more intensive driving experience in BMW 3 Series
and BMW 4 Series models, for which the multifunctional instrument
display will be optionally available. The fully digital TFT colour
display featuring black panel technology for the cockpit provides
driving-related information in an individually selectable design. The
colour scheme, graphic representation and choice of contents vary
according to the driving mode selected via the Driving Experience
Control button.

In COMFORT mode, the display shows a conventional image of the four
round instruments using the corresponding graphics. A zoom function
highlights the respective driving speed and engine speed. In ECO PRO
mode, additional information on current fuel efficiency replaces the
rev counter. In SPORT mode, the current speed is displayed digitally
in the form of a large central figure, whilst the selected gear is
indicated in the centre of the rev counter.

BMW 6 Series with distinctive accents for the exterior and
interior.
From the spring of 2017, new
and attractive special equipment features will also be available for
the BMW 6 Series. These options, which are on offer exclusively for
the BMW 6 Series Coupe, the BMW 6 Series Convertible and the BMW 6
Series Gran Coupe, underscore the sporting character of the three
luxury class models. The choice of body colours will be complemented
by the brand-new variant Sonic Speed Blue metallic. In conjunction
with the M Sports package, new 20-inch, M bicolour light alloy wheels
boasting an M-specific double spoke design will be available,
including mixed tyres and emergency running characteristics as well as
interior trims in a carbon fibre look.

Comfortable, eco-friendly, cost efficient: Digital Charging
Service for BMW i and BMW iPerformance automobiles.
The BMW i brand has become a pioneer in the
field of sustainable individual mobility, not only thanks to
groundbreaking vehicle concepts and drive technologies, but also with
numerous innovative services. The latest innovation in this area is
the Digital Charging Service for intelligent charging of the
high-voltage battery featured in BMW i and BMW iPerformance
automobiles. So the BMW Group is the first carmaker to offer a system
that conveniently helps the driver to make use of favourable
electricity tariffs or a high proportion of self-generated solar
energy during the charging process.

In order to achieve best possible charging cost efficiency, the BMW
Digital Charging Service takes into account not only tariffs with a
dynamically varying price in the daytime, but also those that include
predetermined highest and lowest prices. As a result, it is possible,
for example, to take maximum advantage of particularly favourable
overnight rates.

In conjunction with the new BMW i Wallbox Connect, the Digital
Charging Service can also optimise the use of electricity from a
domestic photovoltaic system. In this case, the amount of locally
generated solar electricity is predicted based on the system’s
performance data and the current weather forecast. Using this data, it
is also possible to determine the proportion of solar electricity that
is not consumed in the home at the time of being produced and can,
therefore, be used for completely emission-free mobility. As a result,
fully electric and/or hybrid vehicles are integrated as best possible
into the domestic environment and the customer’s individual energy concept.

The BMW Digital Charging Service automatically schedules the start
and finish of each charging process with a view to best possible cost
efficiency or maximum proportion of green electricity respectively. In
the process, the charging schedule always ensures that the vehicle has
the maximum battery capacity at the desired departure time and that
the interior is also fully air-conditioned. The unique service is an
integral part of BMW ConnectedDrive Services available for all BMW i
and BMW iPerformance automobiles.

New light alloy wheels for the BMW X5 and the BMW X6.
In the spring of 2017, the range of optional
equipment available ex factory for the models BMW X5 and BMW X6 will
also include for the

first time 21-inch light alloy wheels previously only available
exclusively from the Original BMW Accessory range. The M light alloy
wheels boasting a double spoke design and bicolour look with burnished
spokes come with mixed tyres with emergency running characteristics.
They are available in conjunction with the M Sports Package for all
model variants with the exception of the BMW X5 sDrive25d,
BMW X5 xDrive25d and the BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance.

BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M now with the navigation package
ConnectedDrive as standard.
As from the
spring of 2017, the range of standard equipment for the BMW X5 M and
the BMW X6 M will be supplemented by the navigation package
ConnectedDrive, also featuring telephony with wireless charging. It
includes among other options the navigation system Professional, a
smartphone holder with which inductive charging of a mobile phone is
possible, the RTTI service including On-Street Parking Information, a
WiFi hotspot, ConnectedDrive Services, Concierge Services and Remote Services.

models of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series with new petrol engine –
characteristic design features for all BMW iPerformance models –
optional features: telephony with wireless charging und WLAN hotspot
available for further models.

Munich. With the world premiere of the most
powerful diesel engine ever used in a BMW production car and the
introduction of three BMW iPerformance models, the drive portfolio of
the BMW 7 Series continues to gain in diversity and fascination in the
summer of 2016. At the same time, the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2
Series will feature further petrol engines of the BMW Group's latest
drive generation for the first time. These also include an even more
powerful but also more efficient straight six-cylinder for the BMW
M Performance models BMW M140i 3-door, BMW M140i 5-door, the BMW M240i
Coupe and the BMW M240i Convertible.

Like the plug-in hybrid powered BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, the three
additional BMW iPerformance models will in future also be recognisable
by their characteristic exterior design features. Other innovations
taking effect as from July 2016 include the introduction of the
optional features telephony with wireless charging and WLAN hotspot
for additional series. Moreover, in conjunction with the optional
navigation system Professional, the iDrive control system now also
features a new menu display in tile format for the BMW 1 Series, the
BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible, models of the BMW
3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

BMW 7 Series: New high-performance diesel engine and three
BMW iPerformance models.

With the latest innovations in the field of drive technology being
introduced in the summer of 2016, the BMW 7 Series is yet again
setting a fascinating example of dynamics and efficiency in the luxury
sedan segment. An entirely newly developed straight six-cylinder
diesel engine is making its debut in the models BMW 750d xDrive and
BMW 750Ld xDrive. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology featured in the
3-litre power unit comprises four turbochargers, whose precisely
coordinated function ensures an early onset of pulling power that
continues right up into high engine speed ranges. With a peak output
of 294 kW/400 hp and a maximum torque of 760 Newton metres, the new
six-cylinder is the most powerful diesel engine ever used in a BMW
model. With supreme power delivery and power transmission via the
standard intelligent four-wheel drive system, the BMW 750d xDrive
accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds (BMW 750Ld xDrive:
4.7 seconds), also offering even more forward thrust at high speeds
that can be felt intensively at any time during short bursts of speed.
Furthermore, the new top-of-the-range diesel model excels through
exceptionally low fuel consumption that is truly unique in this
performance class. Combined fuel consumption of the BMW 750d xDrive
and the BMW 750Ld xDrive is between 5.9 and 5.7 litres per
100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are between 154 – 149 g/km (figures
as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The BMW 7 Series iPerformance models will also be launched together
with new diesel variants in the summer of 2016. The plug-in hybrid
drive system including BMW eDrive technology from BMW i automobile
development will become available for the models BMW 740e iPerformance
featuring a standard wheelbase, for the BMW 740Le iPerformance with a
long wheelbase and for the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance with
intelligent four-wheel drive. Together, the combustion engine and
electric motor featured in these models generate a system output of
240 kW/326 hp, their intelligently controlled interaction ensuring
impressively spontaneous power delivery resulting in exemplary
efficiency. Furthermore, driving in solely electric mode is possible
with a vehicle range of up to 44 to 48 kilometres
(BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 41 – 45 kilometres). The sprint from 0
to 100 km/h is completed in 5.4 seconds with the
BMW 740e iPerformance, in 5.5 seconds with the BMW 740Le iPerformance
and in 5.3 seconds with the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance. Average
combined fuel consumption per 100 kilometres is between
2.2 and 2.0 litres (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 2.5 – 2.1 litres).
CO2 emissions are between 50 and 45 grams per kilometre
(BMW 740e iPerformance) or 51 and 45 grams per kilometre
(BMW 740Le iPerformance) or 56 and 49 grams per kilometre
(BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance) respectively. Combined power
consumption is 13.9 kWh/100 km to 12.5 kWh/100 km. (figures as per EU
test cycle for plug-in hybrid vehicles, depending on selected tyre size).

BMW M Performance models of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series:
New engine generation with enhanced power and optimised efficiency.

From July 2016, BMW M Performance automobiles of the BMW 1 Series and
BMW 2 Series will underscore their outstanding sporting character even
more intensely with an extremely powerful straight six-cylinder petrol
engine of the latest generation. Compared with the previous engine,
the newly developed 3-litre power unit featuring M Performance Twin
Power Turbo technology now mobilises 250 kW/340 hp following a power
increase of 10 kW/14 hp and delivers a maximum of 500 Newton metres of
torque. As a result, the BMW M Performance models now come up to the
performance level of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, which was built from
2011 to 2012. They complete the spurt from 0 to 100 km/h by up to 0.3
seconds faster than the predecessor models, whilst both fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions as per EU test cycle are up to 7 percent
lower than before. The increase in power under the bonnet and the
resulting enhanced dynamics are also expressed in the new model
designations for the BMW M140i 3-door, the BMW M140i 5-door, the
BMW M240i Coupe and the BMW M240i Convertible. They are optionally
available with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive technology.

With the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the models BMW M140i
3-door and BMW M140i 5-door accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in
4.8 seconds or with the optional 8-speed Steptronic sports
transmission in 4.6 seconds respectively. Fuel consumption as per EU
test cycle is 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 7.1 litres)
and CO2 emissions 179 grams per kilometre (163 g/km). The BMW
M140i xDrive 3-door and the BMW M140i xDrive 5-door come as standard
with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and both reach the 100
km/h mark from a standstill in 4.4 seconds. Their combined fuel
consumption is 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are
169 grams per kilometre.

The BMW M Performance models of the BMW 2 Series are also optionally
available with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive technology and
are in this case equipped as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic
sports transmission. The BMW M240i Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in
4.8 seconds (automatic: 4.6 seconds) and has a combined fuel
consumption of 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres (7.1 litres) as per EU
test cycle. CO2 emissions are 179 grams per kilometre (163 g/km). The

8.3 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 7.4 litres) and CO2
emissions are 189 grams per kilometre (169 g/km). The
BMW M240i xDrive Convertible sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds
and has an average fuel consumption of 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres
as per EU test cycle and a CO2 emission level of 179 grams per kilometre.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible:
New four-cylinder petrol engine for eight models.

From July 2016, the generation change under the bonnet will affect
many further models of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series. Two
variants of the BMW 1 Series 3-door, the BMW 1 Series 5-door, the BMW
2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible will each be powered
by new four-cylinder petrol engines that further optimize the balance
between driving pleasure and fuel consumption. The 2-litre power units
both feature latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising a Twin

boasts an excellent position in the all-wheel-drive market, a segment
it first entered 30 years ago. Around one in three BMW cars sold
around the world is now equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s success in this segment has been driven
not only by the ever-popular BMW X models but also by all-wheel-drive
models based on the other model series, from the BMW 1 Series to the
BMW 7 Series. Across these model series, a large choice of AWD models
is offered in a wide range of engine versions. At the same time, BMW
continues to refine this technology and take it in new directions. By
offering BMW xDrive in combination with a hybrid drive and with a
front-wheel-drive platform, the company has repeatedly demonstrated
its proficiency in the all-wheel-drive field, proficiency that will
secure BMW’s position at the forefront of this sector well into the
future. Today, BMW offers more than 110 models – of either
transmission type – with BMW xDrive in 12 different model series, as
well as the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car and the compact BMW 225xe
with electrified all-wheel drive.

The focus from day one: traction and dynamics.

BMW’s first foray into the all-wheel-drive market came
with the unveiling of the BMW 325i “Allrad” at the Frankfurt Motor
Show (IAA) in 1985. From the outside, the newcomer didn’t immediately
reveal its inner qualities, so its performance when the journalists
took it out on the test track was even more of an eye-opener. This
very first BMW all-wheel-drive system not only improved traction away
from surfaced roads and in adverse weather conditions, but also made
for more dynamic handling through corners. “The new BMW is the new
champion when it comes to handling,” was the verdict of the testers
from German car magazine Auto Zeitung not long after the first unveiling.

Today, the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system takes
typical BMW driving dynamics to new levels. The current generation of
this system is controlled by the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM)
system, which ensures that xDrive always responds appropriately at the
earliest possible moment, based on reliable sensing and monitoring of
the current driving situation. The interventions may be performed
either entirely by BMW xDrive, or by xDrive in combination with
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Performance Control (DPC).
The resulting fast and precise control of drive power distribution
ensures typical BMW handling characteristics even under extremely
dynamic cornering.

The all-wheel-drive system is biased towards the typical BMW
rear-wheel-drive characteristics. That is to say, on the
all-wheel-drive models a greater share of the drive power is sent to
the rear wheels, even under normal driving conditions. This maintains
the typical BMW precise steering response, with virtually no torque
steer. For crisp turn-in and high tracking stability, the
latest-generation BMW xDrive system starts increasing the amount of
power sent to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a corner,
further enhancing the driving pleasure for which BMW is a byword.

BMW all-wheel-drive technology: continuous evolution since 1985.
The full-time all-wheel-drive system featured on the BMW 325i
“Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent
between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed
differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential
were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the
front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability.
This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was
offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and
including the E46 series).

1991: BMW 525iX.
Three years on, BMW introduced an all-wheel-drive model in the
BMW 5 Series too. For the first time, the power split was now
electronically controlled. The newly developed system featured
multi-plate clutches that allowed the default 36:64 front-to-rear
power split to be varied seamlessly and automatically in line with
driving conditions. Initially a hydraulically controlled multi-plate
clutch was used at the rear axle, but this was later replaced by
electronically controlled selective braking intervention. The system
monitored the driving situation using wheel speed signals from the
Anti-lock Braking System, supplemented by further information about
brake status, engine speed and throttle valve position.

From the outset the all-wheel-drive system of the BMW 525iX was a
class apart. The electronic control system delivered a very fast and
precise response, resulting in safe, neutral handling characteristics
even in difficult driving conditions, such as on wet roads or snow. In
the BMW 5 Series, too, the first all-wheel-drive models were offered
in both Sedan and touring versions.

1999: The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) opens a new chapter.
In the run-up to the new millennium, a highly innovative vehicle
concept from BMW made its sensational debut. The BMW X5, the first
Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), impressed customers with driving
dynamics that were unmatched among other all-terrain vehicles of the
time. The outstanding all-wheel-drive system played a big part in
this. A planetary gear system split the drive power in a ratio of
38:62 per cent between the front and rear wheels, while electronic
control systems such as DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ADB-X
(Automatic Differential Brake) and HDC (Hill Descent Control) ensured
the new BMW X5 was both sporty on the road and equipped to handle
challenging conditions off the beaten track.

In the years following the successful launch of the SAV concept,
there was no let-up in the fast pace of all-wheel-drive development at
BMW. The next year, 2000, a model-specific version of the BMW X5’s
all-wheel drive technology became available for the fourth generation
of the BMW 3 Series.

2003: BMW xDrive makes its debut in the BMW X3 and BMW X5.
Four years on from the debut of the BMW X5 in 1999, BMW kept up
the momentum by launching the SAV concept in a further vehicle
segment. The new BMW X3 was more compact than the BMW X5 and offered
even more agile handling. It set new benchmarks and remained the only
premium model in its class for years to come.

The newly developed BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which was
introduced in the same year in both the BMW X3 and the BMW X5, soon
extended BMW’s lead in the AWD segment. Based on an extremely
fast-acting electronic multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, xDrive
worked in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) to
continuously adapt the drive power split to the current driving
situation. In addition to wheel speed, for the first time the
electronic control system also took into account Dynamic Stability
Control data, for example about steering angle, accelerator position
and lateral acceleration. This is what makes BMW xDrive the world’s
first, and still only, “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system. Unlike
conventional all-wheel-drive systems, which only react when at least
one wheel is already spinning, xDrive is able to detect a risk of
oversteer or understeer at the very first signs, and proactively
corrects this by redirecting the flow of drive power.

In the years that followed, the BMW xDrive intelligent
all-wheel-drive system was fitted not only on the X models but also on
the xDrive versions of the BMW 3 and 5 Series Sedan and Touring
models. By the time the second generation of the BMW X3 was introduced
in 2010, more than 600,000 units of this series had already been sold
worldwide. A little earlier, sales of the BMW X5 – which entered its
second generation in 2006 – had topped the one million mark.

2008: SAC with Dynamic Performance Control and hybrid
drive.
With the two Sports Activity Vehicles now firmly
established in their respective segments, in 2007 BMW went on to
present the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe. Unveiled at the
Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the brand-new BMW X6 elevated the typical
dynamic character of the BMW X models to a new level of intensity. For
the first time, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system was combined
with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which varies the drive power
split between the rear wheels when cornering to ensure unrivalled
agility and stability, even under sudden throttle changes or on
overrun. In 2009, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstrated a further
perfect pairing – between BMW xDrive and hybrid propulsion. Meanwhile,
in the same year, BMW M GmbH added two very special models to its
range of high-performance sports cars. With an M-tuned BMW xDrive
system, including Dynamic Performance Control, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6
M boasted performance that was previously unknown in the
all-wheel-drive market.

2009 also saw the arrival of a new X model, the BMW X1. For many
years to come, the BMW X1 was destined to remain the only vehicle of
its kind in the premium compact segment. Its intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel-drive system, like that of the new BMW X3 (2010), was also
combinable with Performance Control. This system selectively brakes
the wheel on the inside of a turn while simultaneously increasing
engine power, resulting in quick and precise turn-in to corners and
taking the agile handling of both models to new levels.

BMW xDrive also available for other model series.
The steady advance of the BMW X models has been accompanied by
an increase in the number of xDrive versions offered in the other BMW
model series too. Designed to improve cornering agility and precision,
BMW xDrive provides an enhanced driving experience and an optimal
combination of dynamics and comfort. So it was only a matter of time
before this intelligent drive technology made its debut in the BMW 7
Series as well, in 2009. In spring 2012, the first all-wheel-drive
Coupe and Convertible models were then offered in the sporty BMW 6
Series. BMW xDrive can also be specified on the current BMW 3 and 5
Series and, since 2013, on the Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe
models of the new BMW 4 Series.

Driving progress ever forward.
BMW took things forward in the premium mid-sized segment with
the launch of the BMW X4 in 2014. The new Sports Activity Coupe offers
a unique blend of driving enjoyment, sophisticated style and
contemporary practicality. It comes with BMW xDrive as standard and is
available in a wide range of engine versions. In the same year, BMW
also presented the third generation of the BMW X5, the second
generation of the BMW X6, and M Sport versions of both models. BMW
xDrive also made its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This
was a debut with a difference, being the first time BMW had combined
its intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an all-new
front-wheel-drive format.

With the BMW i8, unveiled in 2014, the BMW Group took a bold new step
in new directions – which also extended to the all-wheel-drive system.
This 2+2-seater sports model is powered by a highly advanced plug-in
hybrid drive system that pairs an internal combustion engine driving
the rear wheels with a high-performance electric motor driving the
front wheels.

Focused on the future: BMW xDrive meets BMW eDrive.
BMW’s latest all-wheel-drive models bring technology advances
that are firmly focused on the future of mobility. The BMW i8 was
followed by the international launch of the first production plug-in
hybrid model from the BMW core brand: the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Thanks to
full-time BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive and eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics
technology, this Sports Activity Vehicle mates thrilling and
effortless sporty performance with outstanding efficiency. Intelligent
hybrid power management synchronises the operation of the internal
combustion engine and the electric motor to maximise efficiency at all
times, while also responding perfectly to the driver’s demands. The
drive from the two power units is transferred to the road via the
full-time BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

BMW 7 Series: Integral Active Steering combinable with BMW xDrive.
In September 2015, the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series
makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This high-end
BMW luxury model pioneers groundbreaking innovations on all fronts,
and will be available with BMW xDrive from its market launch in
October. The new luxury sedan will also be the first model to allow
intelligent all-wheel-drive to be combined with Integral Active
Steering – that is to say with passively steering rear wheels.

the Official Vehicle Partner.

The futuristic BMW i8 sports car (fuel consumption combined:
2.1 l/100 km / 134.5 mpg imp; CO2 emissions combined: 49 g/km) will
once again see action as the Safety Car in the trailblazing race
series for electrically-powered formula machines. And the all-electric
(and therefore emission-free) BMW i3 (energy consumption combined:
12.9 kWh; CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km) will perform the role of
Medical Car, as it did in the series’ inaugural season. Added to
which, a pair of BMW C evolution electric scooters and a

the tyre format specified) will be making their Formula E
debuts, as models from other BMW Group brands join the BMW i cars in
the eDrive family
.

“BMW i and Formula E make a great match,” said Jörg Reimann, Vice
President BMW Brand Experience. “The world governing body
of motor sport, the FIA, is branching out in a new and extremely
interesting direction with the FIA Formula E Championship – and we
have been on board from the outset. The series got off to a highly
successful start in its first year on the calendar, with its
all-electric formula racing cars, tight street circuits running
through the heart of major world cities and innovative ideas engaging
fans via social networks. BMW has been involved in Formula E from the
word go. It signed up as the Official Vehicle Partner to supply the
BMW i8 Safety Car and BMW i3 Medical Car. And this commitment has
given the company a platform on which to press its claim as a leader
in electric mobility. We’ve succeeded in bringing the
driving pleasure for which BMW is renowned to the attention of
millions of people in major cities around the world. The ball is very
much rolling now; in 2014 and 2015 we laid the
foundations for a successful partnership, and it’s one which will
continue into the second season of the championship in 2015/2016.”

Formula E will become an “open” championship in its second
season. Compared with the inaugural edition of the series, in which
all the cars were technically identical, eight of the ten teams will
line up for the new season with their own technology. The technical
changes will be concentrated on the powertrain – specifically the
electric motor, the inverter, the transmission and the cooling
system – and see the cars differing in terms of speeds, soundtrack
and, above all, efficiency levels over the race distance.

The
2014/15
Formula E calendar featured e

on three continents.
Ten teams took their places on the grid for that opening season,
each with two drivers at the wheel of standardised cars
. Nelson Piquet Jr. wrapped up the title in the final race in
London – and duly took his place in the history books as the first
ever champion in this new series.

The new season will begin on 17 October 2015 and again take in
eleven races in ten countries.

BMW i8.

The BMW i8 is the most progressive sports car of our times and,
by combining the performance and appeal of a sports car with small
car fuel economy, created a new segment as the first sustainable
sports car. It offers zero-emission driving in town (eDrive) and
efficient sports car performance out of town, where a highly
turbocharged and efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine with BMW
TwinPower Turbo technology also comes into play.

With its revolutionary vehicle concept – which brings together a
carbon-fibre passenger cell, aluminium chassis and benchmark
aerodynamics for its segment (Cd: 0.26) – the BMW i8 represents the
company’s technological cutting edge.

The BMW i8 will continue as the Official FIA Formula E Qualcomm
Safety Car through the second season of Formula E. The modifications
to the two new Safety Cars are far more performance-oriented and
they have been adapted to meet the FIA’s technical regulations ahead
of the new season, which gets underway in Beijing on 17 October.

The new BMW i8 Safety Car is the world’s first vehicle equipped
for inductive charging with 7.2 kilowatts of power using
Qualcomm Halo™ prototype technology
. This allows the high-voltage battery of the BMW i8 to be fully
recharged in around one hour only.

emissions come in at 78 – 77 grams per kilometre (figures according to
EU test cycle for plug-in hybrid vehicles, may vary depending on the
tyre format specified).

The use of BMW eDrive technology for exceptionally efficient
performance as well as all-electric mobility with zero tailpipe
emissions as and when required ushers in a whole new form of
commanding driving experience in a sports activity vehicle. At the
same time, the BMW X5 xDrive40e reaps the benefits of the technology
and know-how transferred from the debut of the BMW i cars. The BMW i8
blazes a trail for sustainable driving pleasure with plug-in hybrid
drive power, which can now also be enjoyed for the first time in a
model from the BMW core brand.

Lithium-ion battery with flexible charging options, typical
SAV versatility and an exclusive ambience.
The energy
for the electric motor integrated in the 8-speed Steptronic
transmission is drawn from a lithium-ion battery, which also supplies
power to the low-voltage battery for the 12V electrical system aboard
the BMW X5 xDrive40e via a voltage transformer. It can be recharged by
connecting to any standard domestic power socket or a BMW i
Wallbox, as well as at public charging stations. To save space
the high-voltage battery is housed underneath the luggage compartment
floor, where it is also particularly well protected in the event of a
crash. With 500 – 1,720 litres of luggage space, a three-part folding
rear backrest and a luxuriously designed interior, the
BMW X5 xDrive40e also boasts the high versatility associated with a
large sports activity vehicle but blended with an exclusive ambience.

Intelligent powertrain control and eDrive button for intense
hybrid driving and mobility with zero local
emissions.
The actual driving experience is likewise
characterised by versatile and effortless performance. The intelligent
hybrid powertrain control ensures that the engine and the electric
motor act in unison in a way that optimises efficiency while also
catering perfectly to the driver’s wishes. The eDrive button on the
centre console allows the driver to adjust the hybrid drive’s
operating mode. In the AUTO eDrive basic setting, the
engine’s power is boosted to noticeable effect when accelerating or
during quick bursts of speed by the electric drive, whose full torque
of 250 Newton metres (184 lb-ft) is on tap from standstill for
instantaneous power delivery. The BMW X5 xDrive40e completes the
sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds.

Alternatively, the MAX eDrive mode can be engaged,
enabling the BMW X5 xDrive40e to run purely on electric power – when
driving in urban traffic for instance – resulting in zero local
emissions. When the high-voltage battery is fully charged, the vehicle
has a range of up to 31 kilometres (approx. 19 miles) in the
all-electric drive mode with a limited maximum speed of 120 km/h
(75 mph). The SAVE Battery mode can also be activated at
the touch of a button, causing the high-voltage battery’s state of
charge to be maintained or allowing energy to be accumulated again,
e.g. by means of recuperation, if capacity is low. In this way,
electrical energy can be deliberately conserved for all-electric
driving later in the journey.

Regardless of the setting chosen with the eDrive button, the power
stemming from both drive sources is permanently transmitted to the
road via the intelligent all-wheel-drive system, BMW xDrive. The
various vehicle set-ups that can be selected with the Driving
Experience Control switch – COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO – are also
available in all drive modes.

Hybrid-specific products and services from BMW ConnectedDrive
and BMW 360° ELECTRIC.
All of the driver assistance
systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive offered as
standard or as optional extras for the BMW X5 are also available to
provide enhanced driving pleasure in the model variant with eDrive
technology. An intelligent energy management function is
also offered as a special model-specific feature that can be used in
conjunction with the Navigation system Professional which is fitted as
standard in the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Whenever route guidance is active,
data on the route profile is factored into powertrain control along
with real-time traffic information. When driving medium to long
distances, the system can therefore ensure it is possible to drive
purely on electric power on urban sections by using Brake Energy
Regeneration and managing the high-voltage battery’s energy reserves
in a targeted and efficient manner.

The hybrid-specific version of the BMW Remote app makes it possible
to check the high-voltage battery’s state of charge, locate public
charging stations or call up efficiency evaluations for the
BMW X5 xDrive40e on a smartphone. The auxiliary heating and
ventilation functions can also be activated remotely.

The BMW i Wallbox Pure and BMW i Wallbox Pro
, including installation service, are available for home
charging as part of the BMW 360° ELECTRIC concept, offering customers
a particularly fast and convenient means of recharging the
high-voltage battery while parked. Model-specific assistance services
are also available. The ChargeNow service provides
cash-free access to an extensive partner network of charging stations
and billing of the charging costs with the ChargeNow card. The
mobility service ParkNow Longterm, meanwhile, makes it
easier to find a parking space or locate and book a parking spot with
charging facilities.

Wide-ranging equipment options.
The
comprehensive standard specification of the BMW X5 on the plug-in
hybrid model is extended to include the Navigation system Professional
as well as an auxiliary heating and ventilation system. This is
powered by electricity from the high-voltage battery or from the mains
supply while charging. The BMW X5 xDrive40e additionally comes
equipped as standard with the Adaptive Suspension Package Comfort
including rear air suspension and Dynamic Damper Control.

Beyond this, practically all the optional extras offered for the
BMW X5 can also be specified for the plug-in hybrid model. The Design
Pure Experience and Pure Excellence packages for the exterior and
interior are also available for the BMW X5 xDrive40e, as are the
M Sport package and the bespoke features from BMW Individual.

Munich. From the summer of 2014, the pleasure of
driving and high-level efficiency can be experienced in a whole new
dimension. BMW is extending its range of engines and is presenting a
new generation of four-cylinder diesel engines for the BMW 5 Series
and additional engine variants for the BMW 2 Series Coupe, the
BMW 4 Series Convertible and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

On the BMW 518d and BMW 520d models, maximum output has been
increased by 5 kW. This is combined with substantially reduced fuel
consumption and emissions. Delivering 140 kW/190 hp, the
BMW 520d Sedan in conjunction with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission
returns an average fuel consumption of 4.1 – 4.5 litres/100 kilometres
and a CO2 emission rating of 109 to 119 grams per kilometre and thus
establishes new standards in the premium segment of the upper midrange class.

Intelligent four-wheel drive can now also be ordered as an option for
the BMW 2 Series Coupe.
First of all, the
BMW M Performance BMW M235i xDrive Coupe will give a starting signal
for even more driving pleasure. In addition, this series' model range
will be complemented by the BMW 228i Coupe.

As many as ten new model variants will be introduced to the BMW 4
Series. An additional petrol engine and three additional diesel
engines will be available for the 4 Series Convertible. From the
summer of 2014, two straight six-cylinder diesel engines will be on
offer for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Moreover, two additional petrol
engines can be combined with BMW xDrive.

The new generation of the radio Professional and the navigation
system Business featured by the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 5
Series models ensures additional comfort and driving pleasure.
Furthermore, a fascinating innovation will find its way into the BMW 1
Series, BMW 2 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW 5 Series. On
vehicles equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and a
navigation system, a proactive drive system identifies and takes into
account the current route features when determining the ideal moment
to change gears. Further innovative options available from the summer
of 2014 include the Edition Exclusive for the premium BMW 7 Series
sedans and a comprehensive extension of the selection of BMW
Individual equipment features.

The pinnacle of efficiency in the upper midrange segment: The
BMW 5 Series featuring new four-cylinder diesel engines.

Yet again, the BMW 5 Series will set the benchmark in efficiency in
the upper midsize class in the summer of 2014. A new generation of
four-cylinder diesel engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology will
premiere on the BMW 518d, the BMW 520d and the BMW 520d xDrive, which
will be available as sedan and touring models. The 2.0-litre power
units feature an aluminium crankcase with thermally joined liners for
optimisation of internal friction coefficients, integrated balance
shafts, a map-controlled oil pump, a highly efficient turbocharging
system with variable intake geometry and Common Rail direct injection
with solenoid injectors, whose maximum pressure has been increased to
2 000 bar. Furthermore, the diesel units, which are based on the BMW
Group's new modular engine system, excel through optimised thermal
dynamics of the basic engine and an extremely spontaneous response
when using the Auto Start Stop function.

The entry models deliver a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp
(+5 kW/7 hp). This allows the BMW 518d Sedan to accelerate from 0 to
100 km/h in 9.5 seconds (BMW 518d Touring: 9.9 seconds). Average fuel
consumption according to the EU test cycle is a mere 4.3 to
4.7 litres/100 kilometres (BMW 518d Touring: 4.6 to 5.0 litres.) The
CO2 emission rate is 114 to 124 grams (122 to 132 grams) per kilometre
(values dependent on selected tyre format).

The launch of the new generation has an even stronger impact on the
BMW 520d and the BMW 520d xDrive. Maximum output is up by 5 kW to
140 kW/190 hp. Maximum torque has been increased by 20 Nm to 400 Nm.
This ensures that they can achieve dynamic acceleration from standing:
the BMW 520d Sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, the
BMW 520d Touring in 8.1 seconds. The figures for the four-wheel models
are as follows: 7.9 seconds (Sedan) and 8.2 seconds (Touring). At the
same time, consumption according to the EU test cycle has been
dramatically reduced. Consumption is rated at 4.3 to 4.7 litres for
the BMW 520d Sedan (CO2 emission: 114 – 124 g/km), 4.6 to 5.0 litres
for the BMW 520d Touring (CO2 emission: 122 – 132 g/km), 4.7 to
5.1 litres for the BMW 520d xDrive Sedan (CO2 emission:
124 – 134 g/km) and 5.1 to 5.4 litres for the BMW 520d xDrive Touring
(CO2 emission: 133 – 143 g/km). In conjunction with the 8-speed
transmission, the BMW 520d Sedan returns an average fuel consumption
to EU standard of 4.1 to 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres and a
CO2 emission rating of 109 to 119 g/km. The figures for the new
BMW 520d Touring with 8-speed transmission are 4.5 to 4.9 litres per
100 kilometres and 118 to 128 g/km (values dependent on selected tyre format).

Premiere for BMW xDrive in the BMW 2 Series. Launch of the
BMW M235i xDrive Coupe.

Superior sportiness in the compact segment will become even more
attractive from the summer of 2014. The new BMW M235i xDrive Coupe
consistently transfers the power generated by its 240 kW/326 hp
straight six-cylinder engine to all four wheels according to each
specific situation. The intelligent four-wheel drive system will be
available for the first time in the BMW 2 Series Convertible. The BMW
M235i xDrive Coupe, which features as standard an 8-speed Steptronic
sport transmission, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
This model completes the sprint 0.2 seconds faster than the BMW M235i
Coupe featuring traditional rear-wheel drive. Fuel consumption in the
EU test cycle is 7.8 litres/100 kilometres. The CO2 rating is
182 grams per kilometre.

The second new addition to this model series is the BMW 228i Coupe,
whose four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology
delivers a maximum output of 180 kW/245 hp and peak torque of 350 Nm.
This enables the driver to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in a
mere 5.7 seconds. The average fuel consumption of the new BMW 228i
Coupe stands at 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres. The corresponding CO2
emissions are 154 grams per kilometre (values per EU test cycle,
dependent on the selected tyre format). In all, there is a selection
of three petrol and three diesel engines available for the BMW 2
Series Coupe.

An even wider selection of engines for the BMW 4 Series Convertible.

The number of engines variants available for the BMW 4 Series
Convertible will increase from five to nine by the summer of 2014. The
BMW 420i Convertible will be on offer as the new entry model, whose
2.0-litre petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology mobilises
a maximum output of 135 kW/184 hp and a peak torque of 270 Nm,
facilitating acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The BMW
420i Coupe's average fuel consumption amounts to 6.6 to 6.8 litres/100
kilometres, CO2 emissions are 154 to 159 grams per kilometre (values
per EU test cycle, dependent on the selected tyre format).

The 225 kW/306 hp straight six-cylinder petrol engine of the
BMW 435i Convertible can be optionally combined with the four-wheel
drive technology xDrive. Average fuel consumption of the
BMW 435i xDrive Convertible is 7.9 to 8.1 litres/100 kilometres. The
CO2 emission rating is 184 to 189 grams per kilometre (values per EU
test cycle, dependent on selected tyre format).

Furthermore, three additional diesel engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo
technology can be had for the open four-seater. The BMW
425d Convertible's 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine features multi-stage
turbocharging and Common Rail direct injection, a technology which
helps it achieve a maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp and a maximum
torque of 450 Nm. The particularly favourable relation between
sporting character and efficiency is reflected by an acceleration of
7.3 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, an average fuel
consumption of 5.2 to 5.4 litres/100 kilometres and a CO2 emission
rate of 138 to 142 grams per kilometre (values per EU test cycle,
dependent on the selected tyre format).

From the summer of 2014, the straight six-cylinder diesel engines
available for the BMW 4 Series Convertible will feature BMW TwinPower
Turbo technology. On the BMW 430d Convertible, this engine technology
incorporates a turbocharger with variable intake geometry and Common
Rail direct injection with solenoid valve injectors. A maximum output
of 190 kW/258 hp and a maximum torque of 560 Nm help the car, which is
equipped as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, to
accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The BMW 430d
Convertible consumes 5.3 to 5.5 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres.
CO2 emissions are rated at 139 to 144 grams per kilometre (values per
EU test cycle, dependent on the selected tyre format).

The BMW 435d xDrive Convertible boasts even higher performance and
presents itself with standard four-wheel drive. Multi-stage
turbocharging and Common Rail direct injection with piezo injectors
incorporated into the engine give it a maximum output of 230 kW/313 hp
and a peak torque of 630 Nm. The 8-speed Steptronic transmission is
also a standard feature on the BMW 435d xDrive Convertible, which
takes a mere 5.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Average
fuel consumption ranges from 5.7 to 5.9 litres/100 kilometres, with
CO2 emission levels of between 151 and 155 grams per kilometre
(figures according to the EU test cycle, dependent on the selected
tyre format).

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe: Additional engines and further models
with BMW xDrive.

With five additional model variants, diversity of the BMW 4 Series
Gran Coupe range will be extended yet again. On four variants, engine
power is transferred to all four wheels. These variants include the
BMW 420i xDrive Gran Coupe with its 135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder petrol
engine and the BMW 435i xDrive Gran Coupe featuring a 225 kW/306 hp
straight six-cylinder petrol engine. The two new models sprint from
standstill to 100 km/h in 7.6 and 5.3 seconds, respectively. Average
fuel consumption ranges from 6.9 to 7.1 litres
(BMW 420i xDrive Gran Coupe) and from 8.3 to 8.5 litres/100 kilometres
(BMW 435i xDrive Gran Coupe). The corresponding CO2 emission levels
are between 161 and 164 grams per kilometre for the four-cylinder
model and between 194 and 198 grams per kilometre for the six-cylinder
model (values per EU test cycle, dependent on selected tyre format).

Side by side, the BMW 430d Gran Coupe and the
BMW 430d xDrive Gran Coupe will also make their debut in the summer of
2014. The straight six-cylinder diesel engine developing
190 kW/258 hp, which is mated to the 8-speed Steptronic transmission
on both models, enables the rear-wheel drive variant to accelerate
from 0 to 100 km in 5.6 seconds. The BMW xDrive variant requires
5.3 seconds to accomplish this task. The consumption and CO2 values
are equally impressive. The BMW 430d Gran Coupe returns a fuel
consumption of 5.1 to 5.3 litres/100 kilometres and an emission rating
of 134 to 138 grams per kilometre. The BMW 430d xDrive Gran Coupe
keeps fuel consumption down to 5.3 to 5.5 litres/100 kilometres, which
equates to CO2 emissions of 140 to 144 grams per kilometre (values
according to the EU test cycle, dependent on the selected tyre format).

The most powerful straight six-cylinder diesel engine generating a
maximum output of 230 kW/313 hp is mated as standard to four-wheel
drive on the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The BMW 435d xDrive Gran Coupe,
which will also be introduced in the summer of 2014, has the 8-speed
Steptronic transmission onboard and takes 4.8 seconds to sprint from 0
to 100 km/h. Its sporting spirit goes hand-in-hand with an average
fuel consumption of 5.6 to 5.7 litres/100 kilometres and a CO2
emission rating of 146 to 149 grams per kilometre (values according to
the EU cycle, dependent on the selected tyre format). Thus customers
of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will have a choice of three petrol and
four diesel engines. Six of these engine variants will be combined
optionally or as standard with BMW xDrive.

A richer experience thanks to intelligent networking: 8-speed
Steptronic transmission with proactive drive system.

From the summer of 2014, the new 8-speed Steptronic transmission with
a proactive drive system will also be available for the models of the
BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW 5
Series. On vehicles equipped with a navigation system, the proactive
drive system ensures that the moment to shift gears is precisely
adapted to the prevailing driving situation even if the navigation
system is not active. The Proactive Driving Assistant works in tandem
with the navigation system and “sees” a bend or a roundabout ahead and
takes into account turn-offs and motorway exits. If the vehicle is
approaching a roundabout or a bend, the transmission automatically
changes down to the most appropriate gear, making optimum use of the
engine braking effect. Subsequently, the system again shifts to the
optimal gear for accelerating out of the bend. Furthermore,
unnecessary gearshifts and hunting between bends are avoided through
intelligent interaction with the navigation system.

BMW X5: Optimised 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

Several variants of the new BMW X5 available from the summer of 2014
will feature as standard an optimised 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
It excels through extremely precise transmission control, outstanding
internal efficiency and a remarkably high degree of shifting dynamics.
The driver of a BMW X5 equipped with the 8-speed Steptronic
transmission will profit from more effective acceleration and a drop
in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The BMW X5 models equipped with
the optimised 8-speed Steptronic transmission will set new standards
in performance and efficiency in their respective segments.

High-speed graphics, additional functions: The new generation
of the navigation system Business and the radio Professional.

With enhanced functions and optimised performance, the latest
generation of the radio Professional and the navigation system
Business is raising comfort and driving pleasure to an even higher
level. Both newly revised options will be introduced to the models of
the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 5 Series in the summer of 2014.
Following the introduction of the new navigation system Business to
the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 4 Series Coupe and the BMW 4 Series
Convertible in the spring of 2014, the new generation of the radio
Professional will also find its way to these models in the summer of 2014.

Both systems have a new control unit with boosted computing
performance. Thus, for example, Bluetooth audio streaming will be
available in the vehicle with the integration of mobile devices as
well as additional BMW ConnectedDrive Services. The most significant
innovation to the navigation system Business are the graphic images
which now generate 10 times faster than before on the 16.5-inch
control display. High-resolution maps, which now have 3D elements and
animations, and an increased speed when calculating routes
characterise the advancement made possible by the optimisation of the
control unit technology. In conjunction with the ConnectedDrive
Services option, the navigation system Business can be used in future
for the Concierge Services, Real Time Traffic Information and Remote
Services. In order to establish the necessary online connections in an
optimum manner, the new system uses the 3G standard for mobile
telephone networks.

Increased driving pleasure through an extended range of series
equipment and additional functions.

Detail enhancements have been made to the series equipment of a
multitude of models and the functionality of features that come as
standard or are fitted as an option. From the summer of 2014, all
model variants of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo will feature as
standard the Dakota leather trim. The range of standard equipment on
all models of the BMW 3 Series will include, among other features, the
speed-sensitive steering assistance Servotronic and a rain sensor with
automatic headlight control. A further optional feature on the BMW 3
Series Touring and the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is the Smart Opener,
which automatically opens and now also closes the boot lid via gesture
control – namely a foot movement underneath the rear bumper. The
standard Driving Experience Control button will now be available for
all models of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4
Series, allowing the driver to adapt the vehicle to meet his or her
needs. In SPORT mode, accelerator pedal progression and the
characteristic map of the power steering can be adjusted independently
from one another to meet personal preferences.

Stylish luxury: The BMW 7 Series Edition Exclusive.

Elegance, luxury and supreme driving pleasure characterise the
fascinating style of the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans. This will be
emphasised even more intensively by an attractive edition model.

The Edition Exclusive, which will be introduced in the summer of
2014, intensifies the driving experience through high-class and
distinctively matched equipment options. This edition comprises
metallic paintwork and 19-inch light-alloy wheels in V spoke design,
which have been exclusively designed for the edition models, an
enhanced version of the exclusive Nappa leather trim and an instrument
panel finished in leather.

The optional BMW Individual all-leather trim Merino fine grain and
the BMW Individual Alcantara roof lining, which can be had at an
attractive price, are a perfect complement to the range of features
included in the Edition Exclusive. The Edition Exclusive is available
for the BMW 7 Series Sedan and the BMW 7 Series Sedan with extended
wheelbase and can be combined with all engine variants.

New options in the BMW Individual product line.

The diversity of the BMW Individual portfolio will be extended yet
again by additional options and new model-specific features.
Particularly expressive exterior finishes, exclusive light-alloy
wheels and premium equipment options for the interior offer
possibilities of an individually tailored configuration that addresses
the exclusive tastes of every owner. From the summer of 2014, four BMW
Individual matt finishes will be offered for the
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, which are applied in a complex process
requiring meticulous workmanship. With their brilliant shimmer, the
BMW Individual exterior paints Frozen Grey metallic, Frozen Brilliant
White metallic, Frozen Bronze metallic and Frozen Cashmere Silver
metallic ensure particularly intensive accentuation of the BMW 4
Series Gran Coupe's flowing lines.

The BMW M3 and BMW M4 can be ordered in Azurite Black metallic,
Pyrite Brown metallic, Tansanite Blue metallic and Moonstone metallic.
The exterior colours' special pigments contribute to a fascinating
interplay of hues that results in extraordinary brilliance, intensity
and depth. The BMW M3 Sedan can be delivered with the BMW Individual
leather trim Merino fine grain or the BMW Individual leather trim with
contrasting colour stitching in Shakir Orange, Blue, Yellow or
Silverstone finishes and a leather-covered BMW Individual instrument panel.

Additional BMW Individual options will also be available for the new
BMW X5 from the summer of 2014. These include the two new BMW
Individual exterior colours Pearl Silver metallic and Azurite Black
metallic, three additional upholstery colours for the BMW Individual
fine-grain Merino leather trim and the BMW Individual Ash Volcano
Brown fine-wood trim. In addition, the steering wheel can be specified
in leather with a fine-wood insert (corresponding to the BMW
Individual fine-wood trim) from the summer of 2014. All options for
the interior of the Sports Activity Vehicle excel through exclusive
materials, top-class craftsmanship and a standalone design.

the world of the luxury Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). BMW is using
the New York International Auto Show 2014 to present what it sees as
the logical next step towards bringing about a radical reduction in
fuel consumption and emissions in the SAV segment. The
BMW Concept X5 eDrive succeeds in fusing the familiar brand of driving
pleasure generated by the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system
and a luxurious ambience enshrined within an interior offering
tremendous versatility of use with a plug-in hybrid drive system. A
conventional combustion engine works together in perfect harmony with
the cutting-edge BMW eDrive technology to produce the brand’s hallmark
sporty drive coupled with a significant reduction in fuel consumption,
making it an impressive example of the effectiveness of the
BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy. As a result, the car is
able to drive on electric power alone at speeds of up to 120 km/h
(75 mph) and for a distance of up to 30 kilometres (approx. 20 miles),
while recording average fuel consumption figures of less than
3.8 l/100 kilometres (more than 74.3 mpg imp) in the EU test cycle.

The concept study underwent a series of detailed refinements in
preparation for its appearance at the New York International Auto Show
and is equipped with a drive system comprising a 180 kW/245 hp
four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a
70 kW/95 hp electric motor likewise developed by the BMW Group. The
motor is supplied with power from a lithium-ion battery that can be
charged from any domestic socket and has sufficient capacity to enable
all-electric driving with zero local emissions for a range of up to
30 kilometres (approx. 20 miles). To ensure a particularly high level
of crash safety, the high-voltage battery developed for the
BMW Concept X5 eDrive is housed underneath the luggage compartment,
whose everyday usability remains virtually uncompromised thanks to the
40:20:40 split-folding rear backrest and an almost level loading floor.

In addition to the settings that can be activated using the
characteristic BMW Driving Experience Control switch, three driving
modes can be selected according to requirements and the situation at
hand: intelligent hybrid drive with an optimal relationship between
sportiness and efficiency (AUTO eDrive), pure electric and thus local
emission-free driving (MAX eDrive) and SAVE Battery to maintain the
current charge level.

Majestic poise at its most sophisticated: dynamic, flexible,
luxurious, plus zero local emissions if required.

Thanks to the BMW eDrive technology that has been specifically honed
for this model as part of the BMW EfficientDynamics strategy, the
concept car brings a whole new brand of poise and assurance to the SAV
segment. The formidable power reserves produced by its duo of drive
units, its outstanding levels of motoring comfort and the optimised
traction, handling stability and dynamic performance qualities over
any terrain courtesy of BMW xDrive technology all endow it with the
all-round sporty prowess typically associated with BMW X models, while
its landmark efficiency blazes a trail for its rivals to follow. The
ability to operate purely on electric power with zero local emissions,
especially in city traffic, puts a whole new slant on the SAV driving
experience that shows the shape of things to come. At the same time,
the plug-in hybrid drive concept does not impinge in any way on the
exemplary versatility offered by the Sports Activity Vehicle’s
interior or its distinctly luxurious ambience. In short, the
BMW Concept X5 eDrive shows itself to be supremely talented in every
way, deftly bringing major advances in cutting fuel consumption and
emissions into harmony with state-of-the-art functionality and
everyday practicality that never fails to impress.

A number of understated styling touches have been meticulously
incorporated into the exterior design to underline the groundbreaking
character of the BMW Concept X5 eDrive. The kidney grille bars, air
intake bars and the insert in the rear bumper are all finished in the
BMW i Blue colour developed for the BMW i brand, for instance,
creating a stunning contrast to the Silverflake metallic exterior
paintwork. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive also comes with body-coloured
wheel arches, specially styled roof rails, a connector for the
charging cable which – as on the BMW i models – lights up during
charging, as well as 21-inch light-alloy wheels in an exclusive,
streamlined design.

To make sure that the styling of the luxurious passenger compartment
echoes the highly sophisticated drive concept, light blue
double-felled seams adorn the Ivory White exclusive leather upholstery
covering the seats, door trim panels and dashboard. Further highlight
features of the specially designed interior include the Piano Finish
Black interior trim with blue accent strips, “eDrive” lettering
embossed in the front of the headrests, ambient lighting with a blue
hue, and an eDrive button that is also illuminated in blue. In the
luggage compartment lined in black velour, a transparent cover – again
illuminated in blue – affords a clear view of the high-voltage battery
for the electric motor.

BMW eDrive in a Sports Activity Vehicle: intelligent hybrid
technology promises outstanding efficiency and hallmark driving pleasure.

Electrification of the powertrain is a key component
of BMW EfficientDynamics technology and allows BMW to unlock
tremendous potential for reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The
BMW eDrive technology developed for this purpose comes in various
versions, each precisely tailored to the particular vehicle concept.
Both the BMW i3, the first all-electric production vehicle from the
BMW Group, and the soon-to-be-launched BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports
car are powered by BMW eDrive technology. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive
now follows in the tyre tracks of the BMW Concept Active Tourer
unveiled in 2012 by demonstrating how model-specific BMW eDrive
technology can be employed in plug-in hybrid models from the BMW core brand.

This is the first time that BMW eDrive technology has been hooked up
with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The
BMW Concept X5 eDrive boasts the superior driving characteristics that
stem from the permanent and fully variable distribution of drive power
between the front and rear wheels. Regardless of the selected driving
mode, the drive power generated by the electric motor, the combustion
engine or the two units acting in unison is channelled swiftly and
precisely to wherever it can be converted into forward propulsion most
effectively. This allows the concept study to deliver all the
qualities that SAVs are renowned for – superb traction and optimised
handling stability in all weather and road conditions coupled with
enhanced agility when taking corners at speed – in remarkably
efficient fashion. The highly versatile and sporty driving abilities
of the BMW Concept X5 eDrive are accompanied by average fuel
consumption in the EU test cycle of less than 3.8 l/100 km (more than
74.3 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of under 90 grams per kilometre.

Both driving pleasure and efficiency in the BMW Concept X5 eDrive are
given an extra boost by an electric motor generating a maximum output
of 70 kW/95 hp together with the instantaneous power delivery that has
become a hallmark of electric drive units thanks to the high levels of
torque available from the word go. The electric motor variant
developed for the BMW Concept X5 eDrive as part of the
BMW EfficientDynamics strategy also boasts sporty performance
credentials, a compact design and optimised weight. The electric motor
alone is capable of propelling the BMW Concept X5 eDrive to a top
speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). With 250 Newton metres (184 lb-ft) of
torque on tap from stationary, it gives the vehicle wonderfully
spontaneous response that translates into thrillingly dynamic
acceleration. It also works in tandem with the combustion engine to
boost its power significantly whenever a quick burst of speed is
called for. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive is able to complete the standard
sprint from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 7.0 seconds.

The task of ensuring the engine and electric motor team up together
to optimum effect is handled by the power electronics that were
developed by the BMW Group and apply the same basic concept used in
the BMW i cars. The power electronics combine a liquid-cooled inverter
for driving the electric motor, supplying energy to the onboard
electrical system from the high-voltage battery and for centralised
control of the hybrid-specific drive functions into a single
integrated system.

ECO PRO mode and all-electric driving:
BMW EfficientDynamics
à la carte.
As in other members of the current BMW production line-up, the
Driving Experience Control switch in the BMW Concept X5 eDrive can be
used to select not only the COMFORT and SPORT settings but also the
ECO PRO mode that fosters a particularly economical driving style.
This driving mode is programmed for highly intelligent hybrid
functionality, whereby the energy management system orchestrates the
interaction between engine and electric drive unit as the driving
situation changes in order to maximise efficiency. As a further
component of the BMW EfficientDynamics technology, a hybrid-specific
Proactive Driving Assistant has also been included, which works
together with the navigation system to allow the route profile, any
speed restrictions and the traffic situation to be factored in as well
for the purpose of drive management.

In addition to this, the driver also has the option of engaging the
all-electric driving mode by switching from AUTO eDrive to the
MAX eDrive setting at the push of a button. With the battery fully
charged, the vehicle is able to cover a distance of up to
30 kilometres (approx. 20 miles) on electric power alone, which means
zero local emissions. There is also a SAVE Battery mode, which can be
selected to deliberately preserve the battery’s energy capacity. This
might be the case, for example, if a longer journey is due to end with
a final stage through urban traffic that drivers wish to complete in
all-electric mode.

Everyday usability: flexible charging scenarios and impressive viability.
In order to capitalise as much as possible on the superior
efficiency of its electrified powertrain, the BMW Concept X5 eDrive is
designed as a plug-in hybrid, allowing its high-voltage battery’s
energy levels to be renewed from any domestic power socket, a special
Wallbox that can handle higher currents, or at a public charging
station. The Wallbox Pro is designed for installation in the
customer’s garage and offers complete ease of use as well as short
battery recharging times, thanks to a maximum charging rate of 3.7 kW.
It is controlled by means of a high-resolution touchscreen including
proximity sensor, while LED light strips provide an additional
indication of the charge status. The built-in load management facility
governs the charging current in accordance with the current draw on
the household electricity supply. The Wallbox Pro even makes it
possible to use home-generated electricity, such as that obtained from
solar panels. There is also a function for creating different user
profiles and displaying the respective charging histories. On request,
the corresponding data can be sent online, e.g. for billing purposes.

The high degree of flexibility drivers can enjoy when it comes to
choosing an energy source is given an added boost by the charging
cable that is carried in the vehicle. The battery unit is located
underneath the luggage compartment, so that there is only a small loss
of load capacity overall – the luggage compartment is able to hold two
large suitcases or four 46-inch golf bags. The SAV’s excellent
versatility – helped by the 40:20:40 split-folding rear backrest – has
been fully retained, along with its ample sense of spaciousness and
the impressive level of comfort offered to the occupants of all five seats.

Intelligent connectivity for yet greater efficiency.

Innovative functions from BMW ConnectedDrive assist
with planning journeys in such a way as to maximise the amount of time
spent driving on electric power alone. In the BMW Concept X5 eDrive,
the current electric range thus appears as a numerical value in the
instrument cluster. Intelligent connectivity enables the vehicle’s
dynamic range display to constantly make allowances for any factors
affecting the range, such as traffic conditions, route profile and
driving style.

When route guidance is activated, the location of local charging
stations is added to the selection of points of interest shown on the
navigation map. Drivers are able to call up charging stations situated
along the planned route or at their destination, while the system
additionally notifies them of the charging time needed to fully
replenish the battery’s energy levels. Furthermore, information
graphics indicating the current operating status when engine and motor
work together in unison, the impact of the driving style on vehicle
efficiency and the fuel consumption history for selected periods of
time can be shown in the iDrive operating system’s Control Display,
along with other information.

Drivers are also able to view all information relating to the
battery’s charge level and electric driving range on their smartphone.
A Remote app from BMW ConnectedDrive that has been specially designed
with electric mobility in mind even enables them to control the
charging process from their phone. It also allows the vehicle to be
pre-programmed whenever it is connected to an electricity supply: the
heating and air conditioning systems can be activated remotely in this
way to get the passenger compartment to a pleasant temperature ready
for the start of the journey.

Press Contact: Christophe Koenig
Tel: +49-89-382-56097
E-mail: christophe.koenig@bmw.de

BMW,Press Release,X5,Concept Vehicles & Design,F15,Product

Munich. As of March 2014 a large selection of BMW M
Performance parts will be available for all model variants of the
Sports Activity Vehicle, giving the new BMW X5 an even more athletic
look as it lines up at the start. Its powerful appearance can be
further highlighted by means of a black decorative grid for the BMW
kidney grille, a front splitter and exterior mirror caps in carbon,
air ducting elements, a diffuser insert for the rear apron and side
sill foils with M Performance inscription. For individual flair with a
sporty touch in the cockpit, there is the BMW M Performance sports
steering wheel with red central marking, gear lever with carbon
surface, accelerator, brake pedal and driver footrest in high-grade
steel and BMW M Performance floor mats. The product range in the
suspension area comprises an BMW M Performance brake system with brake
calipers finished in blue and 21-inch BMW M Performance light alloy
wheels in Bi-Color finish.

The BMW M Performance Power Kit available from spring 2014 for the
BMW X5 xDrive35i provides an increase in output which does not affect
fuel consumption. A precisely modified engine control system puts peak
output up by 15 kW/20 bhp to 240 kW/326 bhp. Maximum torque is
likewise raised by 50 Nm to 450 Nm. The spontaneous response of the
engine can now be felt even more intensely due to an optimised
accelerator pedal set-up. This optimised performance is noticeable
both when accelerating from standing and in terms of elasticity, and
when the driving experience switch is set to SPORT mode it is
accompanied by a striking engine sound Another option available for
the BMW X5 xDrive35i is a BMW M Performance silencer system. All
variants of the new BMW X5 can be fitted with M Performance tailpipe
trim elements in chrome or carbon.

Munich. All good things come in threes: BMW picked up
three titles at the "Auto Trophy 2013" - and did so for the
third time in succession. This year's winning trio that impressed
readers of the automobile magazine "Auto Zeitung" were the
BMW 3 Series, the BMW i3 and the third generation of the BMW X5, all
of which attracted the most votes in their respective category. The
winners were announced yesterday at a festive award ceremony held at
the "Classic Remise" in Düsseldorf. TV presenter Judith
Rakers and "Auto Zeitung" editor-in-chief Volker Koerdt
presented the three trophies to Dr. Ian Robertson, BMW AG Director of
Sales and Marketing, and Dr. Herbert Diess, BMW AG Director of Development.

The BMW 3 Series was able to defend its title from last year, being
voted once again by "Auto Zeitung" readers as the most
popular mid-range automobile. Now available as a sedan, a Touring and
a BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, this latest prize means the model
continues its impressive series of prestigious distinctions and
comparative test achievements. More than ever before, the BMW 3 Series
has come to embody the very essence of driving pleasure, elegant
design, comfort and innovative technology in the premium segment of
its vehicle category.

The list of winners also featured two new models made by the premium
Munich-based automobile manufacturer which were launched on the market
just a few days ago. The BMW i3 was quick to assert itself in the
"Electric cars" category, while the new BMW X5 won in the
category "SUV over 30,000 euros" . Both models had already
received distinctions just a few weeks beforehand at the "Golden
Steering Wheel 2013" awards presented by "Bild am
Sonntag" and "Auto Bild"

The BMW i3 has now also impressed "Auto Zeitung" readers
with its revolutionary vehicle concept and visionary design. It is the
first ever premium automobile in the world designed entirely to be run
on electricity only. BMW eDrive technology, a passenger cell made of
carbon fibre reinforced plastic and numerous innovative driver
assistance systems and mobility services ensure that the BMW i3 makes
sustainable, locally emissions-free mobility an experience defined by
characteristic BMW driving pleasure that is perfectly suited to
everyday travel.

The new BMW X5 also holds a powerful fascination with its distinctive
interpretation of Sheer Driving Pleasure. In its latest model
generation, the Sports Activity Vehicle once again sets standards in
driving dynamics within its competitive environment. The new BMW X5
also offers a range of other strong points including optimised weight,
further enhanced efficiency, extended space, unique versatility and
the luxurious ambience of its interior. And by winning an "Auto
Trophy 2013" award, the new BMW X5 perpetuates the tradition of
its predecessors: the latter also gained instant success in the
"Auto Zeitung" reader's vote.

Now in its 26th season, over 103,000 "Auto Zeitung" readers
took part in this year's vote. Favourites were selected in a total of
15 vehicle categories, with a total of 400 models to choose from. The
excellent showing of current BMW models was likewise reflected in
numerous top-3 rankings - these included the BMW 5 Series, the BMW X1
and the BMW 1 Series Convertible. The success of the BMW i8 in the
"Sports car" category was especially impressive. The plug-in
hybrid sports car does not go on sale until spring 2014, but the
public at large are clearly already fascinated by the 2+2-seater's
pioneering drive concept and its expressive, aerodynamically refined
design. The BMW i8 was up against 29 conventionally powered
competitors in its rating category and secured second place.

Press Contact: Kai Lichte
Tel: +49-341-445-38000
E-mail: kai.lichte@bmwgroup.com

BMW,BMW i,Press Release,X5,Concept Vehicles & Design,3 Series,i3,F15,Product

Munich. The new BMW X5 is due to arrive in the
showrooms on 16 November 2013. The launch of this third generation of
the most successful Sports Activity Vehicle in the world will also
introduce the BMW M50d M Performance Automobile. Boasting the world’s
most powerful six-in-line diesel engine, suspension technology with

features, the BMW X5 M50d combines superior dynamics on the road with
unimpeachable traction off the beaten track. The other character
facets of the new BMW X5, moreover, can be explicitly highlighted:

BMW X5 M50d: enthralling dynamics thanks to trademark M precision.
A compelling combination of sportiness, exclusivity and everyday
utility distinguishes the new BMW X5 M50d. Its six-cylinder in-line
diesel engine boasts detailed refinements and comes with three-stage
turbocharging and common rail direct injection. From a 3.0-litre
displacement it develops output of 280 kW /381 hp and a peak torque of
740 Newton metres (546 lb-ft). BMW BluePerformance technology as
standard means the M Performance Automobile is also EU6-compliant. The
diesel unit’s power is transferred to the road by an eight-speed
automatic transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.

The new BMW X5 M50d comes as standard with Adaptive M suspension
including Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension at the rear axle,
as well as Electric Power Steering. The optional Dynamic adaptive
suspension package comprises Dynamic Performance Control and Dynamic
Drive active roll stabilisation, while the exterior features standard
19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design fitted with mixed
tyres. Noticeably enhanced agility and a quicker time of 5.3 seconds
for the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint go hand in hand with fuel
economy improved by more than ten per cent compared with the
predecessor model. Average fuel consumption for the new BMW X5 M50d is
6.7 litres per 100 kilometres (42.2 mpg) in the EU test cycle, with
CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.

Special touches add exclusivity and style: the BMW Individual
range for the new BMW X5.
The BMW Individual range
specifically created for the new BMW X5 turns an even brighter
spotlight on its elegant design, luxurious ambience and exclusive
character. Factory-fitted exterior and interior equipment options play
their part in imbuing the Sports Activity Vehicle with a highly
distinctive charisma. The manufacturing processes behind the BMW
Individual products developed for the new BMW X5 are underpinned by
precision craftsmanship and longstanding experience in working with
choice materials. The design and finish of these products reflect a
striving for perfection and style that embraces every detail.

BMW Individual paintwork guarantees an impression of exclusivity at
first glance. The application of up to seven layers of paint and the
addition of special colour pigments make for intriguing iridescent
effects, exceptional brilliance and unmatched depth. The BMW
Individual finishes available for the new BMW X5 comprise the
luxurious shades Ruby Black metallic and Pyrite Brown metallic. The
intense lustre of these paintwork options derives from reflections
triggered by red or gold pigments beneath the surface. Likewise adding
an elegantly sporty touch to the exterior are the 20-inch BMW
Individual light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design, fitted with mixed tyres.

The judicious selection of materials and careful processing help
create the unique quality of the fine-grain full Merino leather trim
from BMW Individual. To this end, carefully selected, entirely
unblemished leather undergoes an elaborate tanning process before
being precision-tailored. Its natural, open-pore structure as much as
the soft, fine-grain surface and characteristic stitching render this
leather truly distinctive.

The BMW Individual fine-grain full Merino leather option with
extended features is available for the new BMW X5 in the shades Amaro
Brown and Criollo Brown. The contrast-colour seams and piping in
finest leather are exquisite details that reflect the high levels of
craftsmanship. Stylish design and consummate workmanship also sum up
the quality of the BMW Individual interior trim strips, with a choice
of Piano Finish Black and Sen Light Brown available for the new
BMW X5. Their surfaces display both the high quality of the material
and a perfectly executed finish.

The BMW Individual range will be available from December 2013.

Original BMW Accessories: tailor-made for greater variability
and comfort.
The versatility of the new BMW X5 has
also been further enhanced thanks to products from the Original BMW
Accessories range that are literally made-to-measure. Floor and
luggage compartment mats, along with transport bags whose contours are
precisely shaped to fit the interior dimensions of the Sports Activity
Vehicle, serve as ideal accessories for everyday use and on longer
journeys. Their eye-catching design, moreover, cites the lines of the
car while accentuating the hallmark sturdiness of BMW X models.
All-weather floor mats made of particularly hard-wearing non-slip
material and textile floor mats with a rubber surface integrated in
the foot area are each offered in sets of two. A characteristic design
feature of both variants is an eye-catching, brushed stainless steel
insert with BMW lettering. The trunk-mat for the new BMW X5 is in
matching style and has a non-slip, dirt-repellent surface.

The new transport bags from the Original BMW Accessories range were
developed for leisure, travel and sporting activities and boast a
design that is visibly geared to the new BMW X5. They are
distinguished by high-quality leather and textile as well as optimal
functionality. The collection includes a Storage Bag Fond that can be
attached to the seat by means of the centre seatbelt and offers not
only extra stowage space but two thermally insulated cupholders as well.

Even more space for travel accoutrements is provided by the seat
organiser likewise designed specifically with the new BMW X5 in mind.
It can be attached to the driver or front passenger headrests, has two
large storage compartments, and can be conveniently used outside the
car as well. An ideal companion for winter sports is the ski and
snowboard bag that extends from the luggage compartment through to the
rear of the car. It has room for up to four pairs of skis or three
snowboards and features integrated rollers, handles and a shoulder
strap for convenient transportation beyond the car. To complement
this, a sturdy transport bag for ski boots, helmets and gloves is also available.

All products in the Original BMW Accessories range comply with the
extremely high standards of the BMW Group in terms of their design,
quality and safety and conform to BMW’s comprehensive terms of
warranty. When retrofitted, they do not in any way affect the warranty
terms for the relevant vehicle. Sales and installation are via the BMW
and BMW M dealer network, BMW branches and BMW service partners.

Press Contact: Christophe Koenig
Tel: +49-89-382-56097
E-mail: christophe.koenig@bmw.de

Press Release,X5,Lifestyle Products,BMW M,F15,Product,BMW
