Munich. “RELAX. WE CARE.” – this is the new service
promise now also at MINI, which applies in all participating markets*
and qualified vehicles thanks to the innovative offering “Proactive
Care.” The vehicle acts like a digital concierge, recognising existing
and predictable service needs and proactively reaching out to the
customer with proposed solutions.
“With the introduction of
Proactive Care at MINI, we are now implementing our service promise
‘RELAX. WE CARE.’ in the premium segment of small and compact cars.
Our offering acts as a digital concierge, proactively analysing all
service needs and providing timely support to our customers. This
ensures that our customers are always well-informed and that potential
needs are identified early,” says Ralf Hattler, Senior Vice President
Customer Support and Aftersales.
Tyre diagnostics, error messages
and much more: if sensors in the car detect a service need, the
customer is proactively informed about potential faults and upcoming
maintenance before it becomes urgent. The customer receives tailored
solution proposals: depending on their preference, via the MINI app,
through in-car messages, by email, SMS, or phone, through their
preferred dealer, or even by a call from roadside assistance. If a
workshop visit is necessary, a contact option to the preferred MINI
service partner is provided, who can conduct a remote diagnosis based
on the service need report. Completed work, costs, and handover
appointments are transparently viewable and manageable at any time and
from anywhere.

MINI Service with Proactive Care: Customer Satisfaction at the Forefront.
Whereas previously customers approached their MINI service
partner, this principle is reversed with MINI Service with Proactive
Care – creating a completely new service experience that places
customer satisfaction even more firmly at the centre. For MINI
drivers, this means one thing above all: they can fully concentrate on
the joy of driving. To do this, it is necessary to download the MINI
app and activate the MINI Connected contract.
In the next step,
the vehicle must be registered, and the preferred MINI service partner
and contact details entered. To fully experience MINI Service with
Proactive Care, consent to the data protection regulations, activation
of push notifications in the MINI app, and agreement to communication
from BMW AG or the service partner are required.

Greatest Focus on Data Protection.
The BMW Group places the utmost importance on data protection
and data security, particularly regarding personal data. Therefore,
information is collected specifically and precisely for the relevant
services. This is done in accordance with the EU General Data
Protection Regulation and in compliance with national laws such as the
Federal Data Protection Act.
Following the launch in Italy and
the United Kingdom at the beginning of 2025, Germany, Korea, Spain,
and the Benelux countries followed in the second quarter. The
introduction will also take place in France, China and the USA in the
second half of the year.

Campaign Showcases MINI in Scotland – Thanks to Artificial Intelligence.
The current advertising campaign for MINI's new service promise
is set in the Scottish Highlands, in true British style and will be
presented at the IAA. For the production, neither a MINI nor a photo
and film crew was needed: the images are generated by artificial
intelligence. The campaign will be rolled out globally starting in October.

Munich/Miramas. At the end of series development, the
new BMW X3 undergoes final tuning of all chassis control and driver
assistance systems at the BMW Group test centre in Miramas, southern
France. The fourth generation of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in
the premium mid-range vehicle segment will be presented in a few
weeks' time with both highly efficient combustion engines and an
advanced plug-in hybrid drive. The development and test engineers
ensure that all model variants of the new BMW X3, regardless of drive
concept and weight, demonstrate superior handling in every situation
with an intensive tuning programme. The well-coordinated functionality
of all automated driving and parking systems in the new BMW X3 also
contributes to a harmonious customer experience.

The new BMW X3 has already undergone extensive testing on snow and
ice, in extremely hot regions and off-road on its way to series
production. The SAV's suitability for everyday use and travelling was
tested and refined in urban stop-and-go traffic as well as on winding
country roads, highways and selected race tracks.

Perfectly coordinated systems for a typical BMW driving experience.

The development engineers use the versatile test track in Miramas to
put the finishing touches to the driving experience of the new BMW X3.
In addition to an asphalt oval and a highway ring, there are also
slalom, serpentine and circular tracks as well as off-road courses and
handling courses with different road surfaces. This allows the
longitudinal and lateral acceleration, suspension and damping,
steering precision and braking behaviour of the new BMW X3 to be
analysed and optimised down to the last detail.

The driving dynamics and efficiency of the new BMW X3 benefit from
intelligent lightweight construction and optimised aerodynamic
properties. With a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.27, it sets
new standards in its competitive environment.

Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW X3 also has a wider track
and reduced lift at the rear axle. In addition, the rigidity of the
body and the chassis connection has been increased. Targeted
improvements to the kinematics and elastokinematics of both axles,
combined with a 19 per cent increase in the caster of the front
wheels, ensure noticeably improved directional stability. A more
direct steering ratio enhances steering comfort, while extensively
modified anti-roll bars improve cornering dynamics without
compromising ride comfort.

An Adaptive Chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers is
available as an option for the new BMW X3. The final tuning is part of
the driving dynamics test at Miramas and offers two maps that can be
selected via My Modes. In addition, the new version of the SAV comes
as standard with the latest version of BMW Lateral Dynamics
Management, which ensures precise control of the required steering
torques, the actuator-based wheel slip limitation and the yaw torque
distribution of Performance Control, adapted to the driving situation
at all times.

Thanks to BMW's unique development expertise, all components and
systems of the drive and chassis technology are perfectly matched. The
result is the characteristic combination of precision, sovereignty and
versatility that characterises the driving experience in a BMW SAV.

Automated driving is also optimised by BMW's typical level of integration.

The new BMW X3 features the latest BMW iDrive based on the BMW
Operating System 9 including BMW iDrive Controller and offers a
significantly expanded selection of systems for automated driving and
parking compared to the predecessor model. With its standard
equipment, it clearly exceeds the requirements of the Euro NCAP safety
test. The particularly sensitive braking and steering interventions of
the assistance systems compared to the competition are another example
of the unique integration performance of BMW riving dynamics
development. They enable harmonious interaction between driver and
vehicle in every situation.

The outstanding functionality of all assistance systems is based on
state-of-the-art sensor technology as well as software, processor and
network technology. Highlights in the new BMW X3 include the Active
Lane Change Assistant and the Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant, which
allows the driver to control manoeuvres from outside the vehicle using
a smartphone.

Munich. BMW has been setting standards in the
development and production of special protection vehicles that combine
the driving experience typical of the brand with the highest safety
standards for more than four decades. Professional drivers need
special knowledge and skills in order to be able to exploit the full
potential of these armoured vehicles, which are equipped with special
safety-relevant functions, in everyday use. These are taught in the
BMW Security Vehicle Training courses. With the current portfolio of
special protection vehicles and the intensive training courses for
their drivers under the guidance of experienced instructors, BMW has
created a comprehensive range of tailor-made security products from a
single source.

The training programmes are designed for professional drivers who
want to improve their skills in handling special-protection vehicles
in order to be optimally prepared for extreme situations. As one of
Europe's most renowned test and inspection centres for vehicle safety,
the training centre in Groß Dölln near Berlin provides the ideal
setting. The former military airfield, where the authorities also
train their emergency services, was converted into a state-of-the-art
driving centre in 2002 and is now the perfect venue for theory lessons
and driving exercises for BMW Security Vehicle Training.

Driving techniques and escape manoeuvres: Driving safely in
dangerous situations.

The two-stage BMW Security Vehicle Training course was developed for
participants who, as professional drivers, are responsible for the
safety of their passengers. The BMW instructors teach the basics of
driving physics and driving technique as well as tactical knowledge
that will help drivers to act safely and confidently even in extreme
situations. Under the guidance of the instructors, they learn to test
and improve their driving skills in realistic practice scenarios, even
under challenging conditions - such as in escape situations. With a
maximum of eight participants per group and two passengers per
vehicle, an intensive and personalised learning experience is guaranteed.

The two-day basic training course focuses on basic driving techniques
using special protection vehicles. Due to their armouring and the
associated additional weight, special protection vehicles have a
specific driving behaviour that must be taken into account when
handling them. The first day's training includes various driving
elements, including emergency braking and evasive manoeuvres, as well
as exercises in the dark. The night training programme includes
braking and evasive manoeuvres on a slalom course, alternating between
high beam, dipped beam and parking lights. To simulate the ability to
orientate and react to threat scenarios on an unfamiliar route, the
participants are also confronted with explosions on a confusing forest road.

On the second day, in addition to high-speed handling and evasive
manoeuvres in bends, the curriculum includes a real threat scenario
with a simulated vehicle attack. The J-turn is an effective escape
manoeuvre that involves turning the vehicle from reverse to forward
without losing speed to escape a dangerous situation in the opposite
direction. Other key components of the basic module include
anticipatory driving and the ability to maintain a perfect overview
even under stress.

Confident handling in authentically simulated extreme situations.

Building on this, the BMW Security Vehicle Training Level 2 completes
and deepens the skills acquired in the basic course. The three-day
advanced course also covers extreme situations such as escape
manoeuvres under fire and driving exercises with vehicle contact.

Pyrotechnic effects, night-time ambushes and crash scenarios with
significant bodywork damage also test the mental strength of the
training participants. They learn how to control an armoured vehicle
under extreme conditions during high-speed pace car laps on the race
track. The BMW Security Vehicle Training provides professional drivers
with all the skills they need to meet the highest security
requirements and offer their passengers optimum protection.

The learning content is also supplemented by off-road training with
the BMW X5 Protection VR6 (WLTP combined (preliminary data): Energy
consumption 13.4 l/100km; CO2 emissions 305 g/km; CO2 class G). The
training participants have to negotiate various inclines with the
special protection vehicle, which is around one ton heavier than its
base model due to its armouring, and drive at an angle just below the
tipping angle. In addition, sand crossings and locking manoeuvres,
where only two wheels touch the ground in rough terrain, are practised.

BMW 7 Series Protection and BMW i7 Protection: Integrated
protection concept for maximum safety.

Together with the BMW 7 Series Protection (WLTP combined (preliminary
data): Energy consumption 14.6 l/100km; CO2 emissions 328 g/km; CO2
class G), the all-electric BMW i7 (WLTP combined (preliminary data):
Energy consumption 30.0 kWh/100km; CO2 emissions 0 g/km; CO2 class A)
and the BMW X5 Protection VR6, the entire range of current BMW special
protection vehicles is available to training participants. The BMW 7
Series Protection and the BMW i7 Protection combine their integrated
protection concept with remarkable ride comfort and spaciousness,
advanced equipment features and brand’s hallmark driving dynamics.

The globally unique protection concept includes the BMW Protection
Core, which was already used in the development of the regular BMW 7
Series. It forms a self-supporting protection cell made of
armour-plated steel, which is combined with protected doors, underbody
armour and safety glass. The BMW 7 Series Protection and the BMW i7
Protection are classified in resistance class VR9 according to the
internationally recognised official test criteria of the Association
of Test Centres for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions
(VPAM). The glass even meets the requirements of the highest
resistance class for civilian special protection vehicles, VPAM 10. As
an option, the new BMW 7 Series Protection is also available with
partial protection in defined areas of the body against VPAM 10 ammunition.

Model-specific suspension technology, which is precisely matched to
the weight of the special protection, ensures high agility and
superior performance even in dangerous situations. Unique features
include integral active steering as standard and 20-inch alloy wheels
with PAX tyres, which allow the vehicle to continue driving even in
the event of a complete loss of air pressure. Only a few details
distinguish the special Protection models from the standard BMW 7
Series with M Sport Package. The BMW 7 Series Protection is powered by
a 390 kW/530 hp V8 engine. The BMW i7 Protection is the world's first
certified special protection sedan with a all-electric drive. Its two
electric motors generate a system output of up to 400 kW/544 hp.

BMW X5 Protection VR6: Discreet, sporty appearance and added safety.

As the most powerful, dynamic and best-selling special protection
vehicle of its kind in the world, the BMW X5 Protection VR6 also plays
a special role in the brand's model range. Its design is almost
indistinguishable from that of the standard model, giving it a
discreet appearance with a sporty touch. Its integrated protective
equipment was already taken into account during the series development
of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). This includes body armour and
safety glass, which are specially designed for each model. As a
result, the BMW X5 Protection VR6 also meets the requirements of the
Association of Test Centres for Attack-Resistant Materials and
Constructions (VPAM) with regard to bullet and blast resistance.

The chassis technology of the BMW X5 Protection VR6 is precisely
tuned to its high engine output and individual weight balance. It is
equipped as standard with the Adaptive M Chassis Professional, which,
in addition to the M Sport Differential, includes an integrated active
steering system and active roll stabilisation. Its 390 kW/530 hp V8
engine delivers outstanding dynamics, while the standard sport brake
system ensures consistently high stopping power, even under intensive use.

<pp:caseid>768210</pp:caseid><pp:summary>+++ Leading luxury automaker is developing next-generation BMW vehicles with AWS and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride Vision Platform to accelerate time to market and increase efficiency +++</pp:summary>

Seattle/Munich. Amazon Web Services (‘’AWS’’) today
announced the BMW Group has chosen AWS as the preferred cloud provider
for its automated driving platform. The BMW Group will develop its
next-generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) using AWS to
help innovate new features for its next generation of vehicles, the
“Neue Klasse,” set to launch in 2025. The new cloud-based system will
leverage BMW's pre-existing Cloud Data Hub on AWS, and will use AWS
compute, generative artificial intelligence (generative AI), Internet
of Things (IoT), machine learning, and storage capabilities to help
accelerate the delivery of highly automated BMW vehicles.

“In the next decade, consumer habits and expectations will drive
more changes in the automotive industry than we’ve seen over the past
30 years,” said Dr. Nicolai Martin, senior vice president of Driving
Experience at BMW Group. “This is just the beginning of a new era of
highly automated driving, fueled by innovations in technology and
engineering. By collaborating with AWS, the BMW Group, along with our
partner, Qualcomm Technologies, is building our new automated driving
platform on AWS’s scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure. We’re
tapping into AWS’s ability to help empower the next generation of
BMW’s automated driving and parking functions.”

ADAS supports today’s drivers with early warning systems and
capabilities that make driving safer and more comfortable. These
systems use advanced software and onboard sensors to provide driver
warnings, automated braking, and steering functions designed to help
improve a vehicle’s performance on the road. By developing the next
generation ADAS platform on AWS, the BMW Group’s engineers can respond
more quickly to customer demands and deliver new features to help
improve the driving experience. This efficiency, supported by the
cloud, will help BMW continue to innovate features for its Neue Klasse
of vehicles and keep drivers focused on the experience on the road.

The BMW Group has also joined Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., to
co-develop next-generation automated driving systems based on the open
and modular Snapdragon Ride Platform. The systems feature an
integrated Ride Vision software stack to enable 360-degree perception
for the vehicle. Together with AWS and Qualcomm Technologies, the BMW
Group’s engineers have access to leading hardware, vision software,
and cloud capabilities in an end-to-end automated driving development
platform. Placing the BMW Group’s automated driving platform in the
cloud helps break down development silos within vehicle software teams
at the BMW Group and helps foster greater global collaboration with
suppliers to accelerate automated driving innovation.

“As the automotive industry evolves toward a new
high-performance, low-power, and highly scalable software-defined
vehicle architecture, we are proud to continue our long-standing,
strategic cooperation with the BMW Group to codevelop safer and more
secure AI-powered driver assistance technologies at scale,” said Nakul
Duggal, senior vice president and general manager of Automotive and
Cloud Computing at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "The Qualcomm®
Cloud AI 100 solution and Snapdragon Ride Platforms help deliver
automotive innovation to the BMW Group and leading brands across the
globe. This strategic relationship with AWS and BMW brings together
leading-edge technologies from our respective industries to deliver a
modern cloud-native software development environment."

The BMW Group will also use AWS to help scale its capacity to
handle vast increases in data creation and usage within automated
driving feature development. As automakers deploy higher-level
automated driving functions, such as adaptive cruise control, parking
assist, and piloted driving, the vehicles create more data for
engineering teams to analyze and utilize within future feature
development. This cloud-based infrastructure will help provide the
foundation for the BMW Group to develop and deliver new functions for
its vehicles, such as lane departure assist, automated lane change, or
hands-free driving functions, even faster.

AWS services will help power this new scalable, automated
driving platform based on a common reference architecture,
accelerating the development life cycle and broadening it across BMW
models. For example, the platform provides the framework needed to
process, catalog, and store millions of miles of real-time driving
data in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Engineers and data
scientists can then search, identify, and visualize relevant driving
scenes to develop and train models using Amazon SageMaker, AWS’s
service for building, training, and deploying machine learning models
in the cloud and on the edge. Engineers can also develop large-scale
simulations on AWS compute instances for verification. With this
approach, the BMW Group can test and validate new software versions
more efficiently, helping to ensure the system’s safety and shortening
time to market.

“Automated driving is about more than just convenience; it’s
also aimed at providing driver assistance technology that helps
prevents injuries and saves lives,” said Wendy Bauer, general manager
of Automotive and Manufacturing at AWS. “Implementing these systems on
the BMW Group’s international scale requires an approach that can
process and analyze vast amounts of data, as well as learn and
innovate, so automakers can develop safer and more reliable automated
and ADAS systems. Working with AWS and Qualcomm Technologies, the BMW
Group has the tools required to help make its vision of providing
safe, premium quality, high performance, and highly automated driving
functions to its customers a reality.”

Press Contact: Christophe Koenig
Tel: +49-89-382-56097
E-mail: christophe.koenig@bmw.de

Driver Assistance,Press Release,Research & Development,Driving Experience

Munich. The BMW Group is stepping up its activities
in the field of sustainability, becoming the first automotive
manufacturer worldwide to equip its cars with tyres using certified
sustainable natural rubber and rayon, a wood-based material used to
strengthen the tyres. The company will source 22-inch tyres in the
first instance exclusively from Pirelli and, from August of this year,
will use them in the BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in-Hybrid (fuel
consumption combined: 1.7-1.2 l/100km (WLTP), 2.1-1.6 l/100 km
(NEDC); power consumption combined: 27.7-24.3 kWh/100 km (WLTP),
25.2-23.5 kWh/100 km (NEDC); CO2 emissions combined: 39-27 g/km
(WLTP), 47-37 g/km (NEDC)). Certification of the rubber
plantations and the complex supply chain for natural rubber and rayon
takes place in accordance with the strict standards of the independent
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

“As a premium manufacturer, we aspire to lead the way in
sustainability and take responsibility,” said Dr Andreas Wendt, member
of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Purchasing and
Supplier Network. “We have been committed to improving cultivation of
natural rubber and increasing transparency in the supplier network
since 2015. The use of tyres made of certified natural rubber is a
pioneering achievement for our industry. In this way, we are helping
preserve biodiversity and forests to counteract climate change.”

Natural rubber is the basic material for many products we use in our
daily lives, such as boots and mattresses. About six million small
farmers worldwide are responsible for over 80% of the world’s natural
rubber cultivation. In the so-called rubber belt across the tropical
regions, they run farms of between one and two hectares in size under
a wide variety of different conditions. Agreeing uniform social and
environmental growing conditions with these millions of small
individual farms is therefore a major challenge.

By far the largest share of natural rubber grown worldwide goes into
tyre production. Natural rubber’s high elasticity and sturdiness
currently make it irreplaceable for tyre production.

Small label, big impact

As an independent organisation, FSC has developed an internationally
recognised and demanding certification standard in recent years that
is used worldwide for environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial
and economically viable management of the forests. The organisation,
whose well-known logo is already established in the wood and paper
industry, also applies this standard to products made of natural rubber.

The new 22-inch P ZERO ∗ tyre has now become the world's first tyre
to receive the coveted FSC label. To earn this certification, Pirelli
adapted its US plant in Rome, Georgia, to produce tyres using
FSC-certified natural rubber and rayon. From there, the tyres are
delivered to BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, around 370 km away, and
mounted on the BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid. The star ∗ in the name indicates
that the new tyre meets the BMW Group’s strict performance
requirements, including particularly low rolling resistance and noise level.

Giovanni Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli’s Senior Vice President for
Sustainability and Future Mobility, said: “Before even reaching the
road, sustainable mobility begins with raw materials. With the world’s
first FSC-certified tyre, Pirelli once again demonstrates its
commitment to pursuing increasingly challenging goals in terms of
sustainability, a testament to the constant work on innovative
materials and increasingly cutting-edge production processes. We
continue to invest in sustainable growth for our planet, aware that
this is also essential for the future of our businesses.”

Jeremy Harrison, Chief Markets Officer, FSC International, added:
“The new FSC-certified Pirelli Tyre is a significant milestone in the
drive to deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits across
the natural rubber value chain. This is a major step forward in the
journey towards a more sustainable natural rubber value chain, thereby
helping to mitigate deforestation and support the fight against
climate change.”

Long-standing commitment to greater transparency and
sustainability in the natural rubber supplier network

The use of the first tyres containing certified sustainable natural
rubber and rayon at the BMW Group is the result of the company’s
extensive commitment in this area. In 2019, the BMW Group joined
forces with well-known tyre manufacturers, NGOs, rubber producers and
consumers to create the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber
(GPSNR). Small farmers are also represented in this initiative. The
GPSNR is committed to improving social and environmental conditions
for cultivation of natural rubber and pushing for more sustainability.
It also implements measures to stop deforestation and make supply
chains more transparent. The GPSNR currently has almost 100 members,
who are responsible for about 50 percent of the global natural rubber market.

Through its activities in the GPSNR and close cooperation with its
suppliers, the BMW Group is constantly working to further improve
sustainability in the natural rubber supply chain. The BMW Group is
stepping up these activities and plans to steadily expand its sourcing
of tyres made from sustainably grown natural rubber.

The BMW Group has been working with the FSC organisation for many
years (Licence code FSC-N002012). The company decided to use
FSC-certified wood in the BMW i3, which was first launched onto the
market in 2013. The BMW iX for release later this year will also
feature FSC-certified wood. In 2017, the BMW Group and FSC advocated
for further development of FSC standards for cultivation of natural
rubber in Thailand.

Sustainability an integral part of all purchasing activities

Independently of these measures, the BMW Group has contractually
obligated all its direct suppliers to respect human rights, comply
with expanded environmental and social standards and to introduce
management systems to promote occupational safety and protect the
environment since 2014. This also includes protecting forests and
biodiversity. These requirements must also be contractually passed on
to subcontractors. BMW Group Purchasing does not rely on contractual
obligations alone for this but is also implementing a large number of
additional measures in a transparent process. A risk filter is used to
evaluate potential supplier locations worldwide even before the call
for bids. The next step is to require possible suppliers to outline
their sustainability activities in a detailed questionnaire. External
partners also work with internal appraisers to review selected
locations. Throughout the contract period, external partners work with
internal appraisers to verify compliance with sustainability
requirements through questionnaires and audits. In this way, BMW Group
Purchasing is able to monitor thousands of locations every year.

Sustainable mobility with the BMW X5 xDrive45e

The BMW Group has completed full lifecycle CO2
certification for the BMW X5 xDrive45e – from raw material
procurement, through the supply chain, production and use phase, all
the way to recycling. If charged during the use phase with the average
European electricity mix, this gives it an advantage of around 40
percent over the BMW X5 xDrive40i. If charged with green power, the
advantage is around 70 percent. The electric range amounts to 77-88
kilometres (WLTP).

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in-Hybrid:
