Munich/Beijing. At Auto China 2026 in Beijing, MINI is making a bold statement for creativity and individuality with a large exhibition stand and 14 vehicles on display. From the world premiere of the MINI Countryman MINI x VAGABUND to the China premiere of the electric MINI × DEUS “The Skeg”, as well as a selection of special editions and exclusive paint finishes, the brand demonstrates just how many ways MINI can be interpreted and personalised. “Customisation” is positioned not merely as a technical add-on, but as an expression of personality, attitude and community.

The electric MINI JCW × DEUS “The Skeg” is celebrating its first appearance in China. Featuring a radically weight-reduced, semi-transparent fibreglass body and functional, surf-inspired accessories, the one-off captures a lifestyle defined by freedom, movement and personal expression.

The wider MINI presence centres on a broad portfolio of personalised vehicles, addressing different lifestyles, design approaches and use cases. With market-specific editions for China as well as special models born out of established design partnerships, MINI shows how series-production vehicles can be clearly differentiated through colours, materials and details. Shown at an exhibition in China for the first time, the MINI Paul Smith Edition builds on a long-standing collaboration that combines MINI’s signature design with Paul Smith’s distinctive style. Exclusive exterior colours, refined design elements and unexpected details bring the shared MINI Paul Smith story into the present.

The personalised vehicles are complemented by community-focused, positioning MINI as a platform for cultural exchange and creative co-creation.

Models from the current MINI family also illustrate the full breadth of the brand’s line-up at the stand – from the urban character of compact vehicles to adventure-oriented interpretations in the SUV segment.

The performance DNA of the John Cooper Works sub-brand is also part of the presentation, underscoring that customization at MINI has long included sporting forms of expression.

Munich/Graz. MINI and Austrian design studio Vagabund present a new creative collaboration: two unique one-off vehicles based on the MINI Countryman, both of which set a powerful statement for adventure spirit, community culture and festival lifestyle.

“A long-standing tradition and core value of the MINI brand is individual vehicle customization. Together with Vagabund, MINI continues this approach and demonstrates how a creative reinterpretation of the MINI Countryman – inspired by festival culture and music – can be brought to life through an engaged community,” says Jean‑Philippe Parain, Head of MINI.

MINI x Vagabund: The Duo
Vagabund successfully adds a distinctive design layer to the MINI Countryman that authentically expresses individuality, design philosophy and community spirit. MINI deliberately provides the platform – Vagabund contributes their creative signature. The result: two charismatic vehicles that reinterpret the versatility and openness of the MINI Countryman in an entirely new way.

“For us, design does not begin with the object, but with the idea behind it – and it only ends when that idea becomes tangible. The MINI x Vagabund one-offs translate a clear concept into an experiential statement. Two distinctive characters, united by MINI Countryman DNA, create a composition full of tension – making design visible as an emotional experience,” explains Paul Brauchart, Co-Founder and Head of Creative Vagabund.

Holger Hampf, Head of MINI Design: “MINI Design stands for vehicles with strong character that people enjoy driving and living with—true to the motto: lifestyle meets function and fun. Through our collaboration with Vagabund on these two vehicles, we were able to once again showcase our attention to detail and technical craftsmanship in a striking way.”

With a sophisticated sound system, graphic accents and a bold colour concept, the two vehicles themselves become moving sound stages. The vehicle finished in Melting Silver features sand-coloured & white body exterior details: playful, graphic and light. The Midnight Black example stands in deliberate contrast – monochrome black, precise and technical. It is this contrast that enhances their perception and creates an overall impression that only becomes fully apparent when both vehicles are experienced together.

Bodywork & proportions
Distinctively reworked wheel arches create a visually wider stance and give the vehicles a further striking appearance. A front bumper attachment ensures a harmonious connection between the wings and the original front apron. Front and rear bumpers are colour-coordinated with the additional body modifications, with the radiator grille being revised accordingly. Along the side sills, sits prominently integrated VAGABUND lettering as a three-dimensional element.
The raised ride height further emphasizes the off-road character of the two MINI Countryman S ALL4 models. In addition, 20‑inch wheels are fitted, showcasing intentionally closed-off 3D‑printed wheel cover designs, which gives the wheels a muscular appearance and creates a clear visual association with loudspeakers.

The roof rack consists of three laser-cut and folded aluminium plates, complemented by an integrated stainless-steel mesh as an open surface. This construction visually references the design language of speaker covers, creating a connection between roof, side profile and overall vehicle design – turning the roof rack into an integral design element.

The vehicle as a sound system
The rear side windows have been removed and replaced by a specially-developed sound system designed specifically for outdoor sound projection, with community events in mind. At its heart is a newly developed loudspeaker housing made from cast polymer granite – a material that offers ideal conditions for precise and unadulterated sound reproduction.

Tweeters and mid-range speakers are integrated directly into the bodywork, while additional subwoofers in the rear deliver a powerful punch when the tailgate is opened. Each vehicle functions as an independent sound system – however together, both MINI Countryman show cars form a mobile stage, creating an immersive audio experience.

On the opposite side of the vehicle, a special detail can be found: an iconic Walkman integrated into a 3D‑printed housing. With a characteristic MINI sense of humour; this creates a deliberate counterpoint to the open external sound system – a personal, decelerated feeling. The combination of analogue nostalgia and contemporary construction underlines the experimental character of the entire concept.

MINI Individualization by Vagabund
Through Vagabund, the MINI Countryman becomes a moving platform for encounters and cultural exchange. The vehicles create community moments where people come together and enable experiences that go beyond the thrill of driving.

Vagabund is renowned for its expertise in rethinking existing products via visual transformations. The two one-off vehicles demonstrate how creative power lies in form, function and attention to detail. MINI and Vagabund share this approach: individuality instead of convention, craftsmanship instead of overbearing aesthetics, community instead of distance.

The MINI x Vagabund collaboration shows how MINI carries its historic commitment to individualization into the future: bold design interpretations, culture-driven themes (such as music), cultural leaders and community, combined with a high level of craftsmanship. The result is inspiring one-off examples that showcase the MINI Countryman in new and elevated ways. MINI will present one of the two one-off vehicles to the public for the first time at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. Following its premiere at the motor show, the models will be brought closer to people live and in action across a wide range of platforms – staying true to the community-driven approach.

Munich/Tokyo. The MINI Countryman D combines typical MINI handling with efficient diesel technology. With an output of 163 hp (120 kW) and 400 Nm of torque, the largest member of the MINI family is just as impressive in Tokyo´s dense traffic as it is on the roads around Mount Fuji.

Munich. The all-electric MINI Countryman models – MINI Countryman E and MINI Countryman SE All4 – are destined to set new benchmarks with technological innovations arriving in March 2026, while showcasing notable versatility as compact SUVs suited for everyday life.   

The MINI Countryman E offers a purely electrical range up to 500 kilometers (WLTP), transforming the largest model in the MINI family into a particularly attractive companion for any adventure. The significantly increased range is achieved due to a combination of innovative technical solutions. At its heart is the new silicon carbide (SiC) inverter, which guarantees highly efficient energy conversion and minimizes power losses. This is complemented by an increase in the net capacity of the high-voltage storage system of 65,2 kWh, which enables more usable energy. In addition, friction-reduced wheel bearings on the front axle reduce rolling resistance and therefore contribute to overall optimization.

Versatility for everyone’s requirement- comfort and space at the highest level.
The all-electric MINI Countryman blends the brand´s signature driving fun with remarkable versatility, making it ideal for any challenge. With its generous interior dimensions and a variable trunk volume of up to 1.450 liters, it offers enough space for the whole family, luggage or sports equipment – perfect for everyday use as well as for weekend trips or longer journeys. The increased range of the MINI Countryman E up to 500 kilometers (WLTP) or the MINI Countryman SE All4 up to 467 kilometers create new freedom and significantly reduce charging requirements. Whether in the countryside or on the highway – thanks to fast DC charging technology, the all- electric MINI Countryman can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes.

Modern design with an expressive identity.
The exterior of the all-electric MINI Countryman emphasizes its identity with specific design elements and aerodynamic optimizations. A particularly expressive example of this is the exclusive Favoured Trim, which accentuates the model with thoughtfully curated details such as the Blazing Blue body colour, a vibrant silver roof and mirror caps as well as the 20” alloy wheels featuring the Windmill Spoke Design. It underscores the MINI Countryman´s dynamic and modern appearance. With a drag coefficient (Cd Value) of just 0.26, the design makes a significant contribution to efficiency and range.

Innovative technologies and advanced driver assistance systems for greater safety and comfort.
In the interior, the central 24 cm OLED display offers intuitive operation of all infotainment and driver assistance systems enabling autonomous driving up to level 2 while ensuring comprehensive safety and maximum comfort. 

The technical innovations and the ultra-modern SiC inverter fit seamlessly into the overall vehicle concept and thus support the vehicle´s outstanding efficiency.

Munich/ Island. For nature lovers, Iceland, is a true dream destination - and the easiest way to explore it is by car. Even though much has changed in the land of geysers, volcanoes, glaciers and endless mountain ranges, Iceland is always good for an adventure or two - and so is the MINI Countryman SE ALL4.
There are just under 2,700 kilometres as the crow flies between Munich and Reykjavik in the south of Iceland - and a few more to the Westfjords. By road, it is around 2,300 kilometres plus a two-day ferry crossing from Hirtshals in Denmark to Sedisfjödur.

The MINI Countryman SE ALL4 is off-road ready.
Apart from the road network in the capital Reykjavik, there is hardly much more tarmac than the Ring Road, which is the easiest way to explore the island. The MINI Countryman SE ALL4 is therefore more rugged than the family SUV is normally known for when it leaves Munich: off-road tyres, luggage rack with spare wheel on the roof, sand plates, spade and jack are all part of the sensible equipment package if you want to experience sights such as waterfalls, geysers and fjords.

Two electric motors for powerful all-wheel drive.
With its electric range of up to 432 kilometres according to the WLTP test cycle, the powerful MINI Countryman sets off on the first leg of its journey, which takes it via Hamburg to Denmark to the port of Hirtshals. The off-road tyres specially suited to the challenges of the island and the extensive roof structure hardly reduce the range of the MINI Countryman SE ALL4. With a maximum charging capacity of 130 kW, less than 30 minutes remain for route preparation during stopovers. On the way along German motorways, the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 initially demonstrates its touring qualities: Two electric motors with a total output of 230 kW/313 hp and a torque of 494 Nm provide a powerful drive. The Driving Assistant Professional enables semi-automated driving for relaxed journeys and arrivals. Additional space in the redesigned interior gives the driver and front passenger more room in the shoulder and elbow area.

Rough North Sea and long days in Iceland.
During the ferry crossing from Hirtshals in Denmark to Sedisfjödur in Iceland, the North Sea is unusually rough with a considerable storm and waves of over eight metres. The weather on arrival in Iceland is worse than expected: light snowfall, low clouds and temperatures below freezing. However, after the start of the stage on the way inland, the already impressive landscapes of lava rock become increasingly worth seeing. The never-ending midsummer sun wins the battle against the night - and so the Countryman reaches the hotel shortly after midnight in bright sunshine after a long first stage on Iceland's mainland.

MINI Countryman: Charisma defies mud and dust.
Early the next morning, at around five o'clock, the MINI Countryman SE ALL4, which has long since been heavily soiled, sets off on the challenging final stage of Route 622 - one of the most demanding and dangerous tracks in the Westfjords with a particularly spectacular scree passage by the water, which can only be driven through at low tide.
With its ‘Blazing Blue’ paintwork, bronze-coloured elements thanks to the Favoured Trim, all terrain tyres and roof rack, the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 causes quite a stir and is a real talking point on the road. Dust and mud on the rough routes cannot diminish its radiance along the journey.

Relaxed and electric on Iceland's rugged coastline.
The all-electric MINI Countryman masters green meadows, gloomy scree or narrow paths with cliff overhangs and water crossings with ease. A gentle off-road pace hardly reduces the electric range. Here and there it touches down, scraping the turf, while the views of the sea and the steeply sloping coastline become increasingly spectacular. The MINI Countryman is tenacious, confident and fully electric as it battles its way along the narrow and challenging Route 622, the conditions of which have been made even more difficult by the rainfall of recent weeks.

The MINI Countryman knows adventure.
Coming from the south, nothing works just before the beach section of Route 622: where waves and weather have torn everything away, the notorious track is no longer passable by any vehicle. Even spades, sand trays and jacks can't help. And yet, between Munich and Iceland, the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 proves that it rightly bears its name - even fully electrically.

At the IAA Mobility in Munich from 9 to 14 September, MINI will transform the city into its own stage at two well-known locations: an impressive Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz, and a central brand appearance in the MINI Pavillion at Lenbachplatz, presenting MINI’s brand DNA at the world's largest mobility event. The highlight is the world premiere of two exclusive JCW showcars, created as part of an exciting collaboration.

MINI's racing background is not only evident from its recent success at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring: motorsport has been part of the brand's essence from the very beginning. As part of the IAA, two unique MINI John Cooper Works showcars are celebrating their world premiere, the result of an inspiring collaboration.
For the duration of the IAA, the MINI Pavillion puts the models centre stage in a spectacular display. The showcars, which combine the brand's unmistakable racing enthusiasm with the spirit of a world-famous lifestyle brand, can be admired at Lenbachplatz. For this, the MINI Pavillion will be extensively remodeled, and dedicated entirely to the John Cooper Works brand.

MINI at Open Space: Heritage and humour at Max-Joseph-Platz.
A metropolis within a metropolis: With its appearance at the Open Space, MINI brings the vibrant city centre of London to the noble Max-Joseph-Platz in Munich's old town. An elaborately staged backdrop recreates the heart of the city and presents the brand’s British identity, including its humour in many details.

With the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Residenztheater in the background, the focus of Open Space is the all-electric models of the new MINI family, the high-performance MINI John Cooper Works Electric, MINI Service and MINI Experience Modes. 
With the MINI John Cooper Works Electric, MINI Aceman SE and MINI Countryman SE ALL 4, visitors will be able to experience three all-electric MINI models up close. Max-Joseph-Platz is also the starting point for test drives in cooperation with SIXT: true to the motto "Only MINI Can Do", visitors can take all-electric MINIs from the new MINI family out onto the city's streets from here.

MINI at the IAA: Community Day unites fans of the brand.
Fans of MINI can also become part of the IAA Mobility this year: at the "Community Day" on 13 September, MINI clubs will come together for a drive with their personal MINIs. Starting at Gut Kaltenbrunn on Lake Tegernsee, the route leads through Munich and ends with an inspiring get-together with music, BBQ and dialogue with the community in the MINI Pavillion.

The IAA: a platform for experts and enthusiasts.
As one of the largest and most important international automotive trade fairs, the International Motor Show (IAA) offers manufacturers, journalists and other enthusiasts a platform for dialogue on the topics of mobility, innovation and technology every two years. The IAA Mobility 2025 is organised under the slogan "It's All About Mobility". As part of the event, innovations and concepts will be presented in four formats - at the IAA Summit, the IAA Conference, the IAA Open Space and the IAA Experience - as well as at MINI in the MINI Pavillion at Lenbachplatz. The powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine with an output of 221 kW/300 hp guarantees MINI-typical driving pleasure on any terrain. With a maximum torque of 400 Nm and a top speed of 250 km/h, the MINI JCW Countryman ALL4 proves its performance. The all-wheel drive distributes the power precisely and reliably, providing the sporty crossover model with sufficient grip and traction even in challenging conditions.
With an additional 13 centimetres in length and eight centimetres in height compared to its predecessor, the MINI Countryman provides ample space for up to five passengers. The rear seat, which can be shifted by up to 13 centimetres and folded down, allows the luggage compartment volume to be conveniently and easily adjusted from 450 litres up to 1460 litres. The interior benefits from a panoramic glass roof, which provides additional brightness and all-round visibility.

It's that time of year again - Christmas is almost here! The new MINI family has something for everyone this festive season, including the distinctive MINI Cooper Convertible and the versatile MINI Countryman. The MINI Cooper Convertible S is the ideal companion for excursions through snow-covered winter landscapes. The MINI Countryman S ALL4 is the perfect choice for those with a need for more space. The MINI Countryman handles winter conditions with ease and gets you to your destination safely thanks to its four-wheel drive. The MINI Countryman's high level of occupant and pedestrian safety was confirmed in early December when the MINI Countryman received the highest possible five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test.

MINI can look back on an eventful year. With the MINI Cooper 3-door, MINI Cooper 5-door, MINI Cooper Convertible and MINI Countryman, four models have been completely renewed. The family was joined by a new member: the MINI Aceman. The progressive crossover model closes the gap between the MINI Cooper and the MINI Countryman. The MINI Aceman is offered exclusively as an all-electric model, while the MINI Cooper family is available with a combustion engine, and the MINI Cooper SE and E are also available with all-electric drive. Numerous awards worldwide underline the success of the new MINI models. Munich. The largest model in the brand's range impresses with its increased space, high level of comfort, attractive design and innovative technologies. The European Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has now confirmed the all-rounder's particularly high level of safety. Manufactured in Leipzig, the MINI Countryman stood out in the demanding test procedure thanks to its excellent occupant protection in various types of collision, effective protection for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as effective accident avoidance systems.

The extensive range of safety-related driver assistance systems fitted as standard also contributed to the top rating. Above all, the latest generation of front collision warning with braking function provides an additional plus in safety in urban traffic. It can now also detect pedestrians and cyclists approaching parallel to the lane from behind or in front when turning, effectively helping to avoid a collision with weaker road users. The system also warns of oncoming traffic when turning.

The MINI Countryman also scores highly in terms of passive safety with innovative systems. The standard centre airbag between the driver and front passenger seats was rated as highly effective.

The compact crossover model scored maximum points in the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact test for the protection of children. 

The integrated safety concept provides a high level of protection against injury at all times. According to Euro NCAP, the seats and head restraints in the front and rear seats offer good protection against cervical injuries that can occur in a rear impact. The testers also emphasised the emergency braking system to prevent secondary collisions and the intelligent emergency call.

Munich/Beijing. MINI fans can look forward to the 18th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition 2024. From April 25 to May 4, MINI will be presenting the new generation of the new MINI Family at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. As part of the Chinese motor show with the theme “New Era, New Cars,” MINI is celebrating the world premiere of the first-ever MINI Aceman. With its independent, all-electric vehicle concept, the MINI Aceman occupies the position between the MINI Cooper and the MINI Countryman.

Together with the electric MINI Cooper in both power levels “E” and “SE” and the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 with intelligent all-wheel drive, MINI is presenting the range of its new product portfolio at the Auto China 2024.

Auto China has been held in Beijing every two years since 1990. On more than 200,000 square meters of exhibition space, over 700 exhibitors present their portfolio in what is currently the world's largest automotive market.

The MINI Cooper: Maximum emotion in a minimal footprint.
With a fully electric drive, the MINI Cooper is available as Cooper E and with higher performance and range Cooper SE. Together with the octagonal front grille, the iconic round headlights define the distinctive face of the all-electric vehicle. As with the entire new model family, four vehicle trims (Essential, Classic, Favoured, JCW Trim) are available for the MINI Cooper.

At Auto China 2024, MINI presents the Cooper E in Favoured Trim. The exclusive exterior details of the equipment variant are expressively showcased in Sunny Side Yellow with contrasting roof and mirror caps in white. The MINI Cooper E impresses with 135 kW/184 hp and thrilling acceleration without delay. The battery of the MINI Cooper E (combined power consumption: 14.3-13.8 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; CO2 class: A) achieves a range of 305 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle with a capacity of 40.7 kWh.  28 minutes of charging time at 75 kW is enough to charge the MINI Cooper E battery from 10 percent to 80 percent.

Electrified go-kart feeling with increased range.
In the MINI Cooper SE (combined power consumption: 14.7 — 14.1 kWh/
100 km according to WLTP; combined CO ₂ emissions: 0 g/km; CO2 class: A), the spontaneous power delivery of the 160 kW/218 hp electric motor creates even more emotions. The high-voltage battery with a capacity of 54.2 kWh achieves a range of up to 402 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle.

At Auto China 2024, the MINI Cooper SE in British Racing Green is a reminiscent of the racing successes of its classic predecessor.
In Classic Trim, the two-tone black and blue knit surface on the dashboard and doors provides an elegant contrast to the high-quality seats made of vescin. The interior of the MINI Cooper is based on the new MINI design language “Charismatic Simplicity.”
The round OLED display, the characteristic toggle switch bar and the redesigned steering wheel characterize the minimalistic look of the cockpit.

 At its booth in Beijing, MINI also presents the Cooper SE
in John Cooper Works Trim. The red contrasting roof adds a characteristic highlight to the Legend Grey shade. Exclusive design features such as the distinctive diffusers in the front and rear areas, the radiator grille and the JCW logo in high-gloss black emphasize the sporty character of the trim. In the interior, JCW sports seats with multi-colored knitwear and black synthetic leather with red stitching reflect the color scheme of the dashboard and door panel.

The MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4:
Powerful versatility even off paved roads.
Also in Beijing: The largest MINI. With standard ALL4 all-wheel drive and 221 kW/300 hp high-performance engine, the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 — 7.8 l/100 km in accordance with WLTP; combined CO ₂ emissions: 187 — 177 g/km; CO2 class: A) sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds.

The typical JCW, contrasting chili red on the mirror caps, the roof and the inlays on the air outlets, together with the shiny Midnight Black shade, accentuate the sportiness of the model. The interior of the versatile MINI model offers plenty of space.
This means that even bulky items can be transported in the luggage compartment with a volume of up to 1,450 liters when the bench is folded down.

The MINI Experience Modes are available for particularly immersive driving experiences. In addition to specific graphic elements on the
OLED display, MINI fans can experience the entire interior in a new way through special lighting graphics in different colors and patterns.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. With a range of up to 433 kilometers according to the WLTP test cycle, the new MINI Countryman SE ALL4 promises long and locally emission-free driving pleasure on any terrain. Thanks to extended driving assistance systems and partially automated Level 2 driving, this all-rounder offers even greater safety and comfort.
The maximum off-road character of the MINI Countryman is emphasized by the vertical body design with short overhangs and slim contouring. The different vehicle characteristics can be emphasized by four individual trim variants; the characteristic MINI contrasting roofs are available for the first time in the new Vibrant Silver shade.

Leipzig. Electrification continues at BMW Group Plant Leipzig: Four months after launching production of the combustion-engined MINI Countryman, the all-electric version is now rolling off the lines at Leipzig as well. After phasing out production of the BMW i3, the birthplace of electric mobility at the BMW Group has welcomed another fully electric car to its range. It now manufactures four models with three drive types by two brands, all on a single production line: the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (including the plug-in hybrid version), the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the MINI Countryman in both its fully electric and combustion-powered versions.

The MINI Countryman Electric represents a major step in the MINI brand’s transition to full electrification by 2030 and combines an electrified go-kart feel with zero local emissions mobility. It comes in two fully electric variants: the Countryman E (150 kW, 204 hp | electricity consumption 17.4 – 15.7 kWh/100 km | CO2 emissions 0 g/km) and the more powerful all-wheel Countryman SE ALL4 (230 kW, 313 hp | electricity consumption 18.5 – 16.8 kWh/100 km | CO2 emissions 0 g/km).  

Consistent plant upgrades and flexible production system

To enable production of up to 350,000 units a year – 100,000 more than previously – Plant Leipzig has been continuously upgraded since 2018, with extensive additions and upgrades to the bodyshop, paintshop, assembly and logistics. “Our cars and components are very much in demand. In recent years the BMW Group has invested around 1.6 billion euros in the Leipzig site to produce additional vehicles and electric components, and now we’re increasing vehicle volumes too – which is great news for our plant,” said Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director.

The main driver behind the volume increase is the MINI Countryman. During the course of 2024, output will rise to almost 500 units a day – on top of the 800 or so BMW vehicles the plant is producing. What’s more, thanks to its flexible production system, Plant Leipzig is in a position to respond quickly to customer demand, for example by increasing the share of fully electric vehicles.

Flexible assembly structures also meant the MINI Countryman Electric could be integrated seamlessly into production. The situation is similar with the different drive units, which are all produced on one and the same line in aggregate assembly and prepared for what’s known as “marriage” with the body. The e-drives, transmissions and control electronics (collectively known as the highly integrated electric drive topology, or HEAT) for the two all-electric models are connected directly in the plant. A new production line was required only for the control electronics.

More staff and nightshifts for increased production volume

Higher production volume means secure employment and up to 900 additional employees in vehicle production alone. By the end of 2024, Plant Leipzig will employ around 7,000 BMW staff. Working hours will need to be adjusted in all technologies, with nightshifts in assembly starting for the first time in September of this year and cars being produced round the clock in three shifts.

“Plant Leipzig first went on stream in 2005 with about 2,600 employees in production. 19 years later there are over 7,000. Over the years, the plant has grown steadily and considerably. The start of nightshifts in assembly represents another important milestone in the success story of our plant and is a clear show of confidence by our company in our site here in Leipzig,” emphasised Works Council Chairman Jens Köhler.

Made at Plant Leipzig: high-voltage batteries for the MINI Countryman Electric

With the production launch of the MINI Countryman Electric, all three stages of the Gen 5 high-voltage battery production process are now represented at BMW Group Plant Leipzig: cell coating, module production and battery assembly. Operations in all three are currently ramping up, with five cell-coating, three module-production and two high-voltage battery-production lines now in place.

“We are in the middle of the transformation to e-mobility,” said Markus Fallböhmer, Head of Battery Production at the BMW Group. “Starting this year, Plant Leipzig will carry out every stage of our in-house high-voltage battery production process. It’s our next great step forwards.”

Plant Leipzig’s e-component production capacity has been increasing since 2021. It will now manufacture not just the high-voltage batteries for the MINI Countryman Electric but also e-components for the BMW iX1, BMW iX2, BMW i4, BMW i5 and BMW iX made at other sites. The e-component production unit at Leipzig currently employs some 1,000 people.

To enable production of high-voltage batteries, spaces previously used for the BMW i3 and BMW i8 have been converted and new buildings added. One of them is a new hall with a footprint of about 61,000 m². This houses two lines capable of producing up to 300,000 high-voltage batteries a year. The BMW Group has invested over 900 million euros in e-component production at Plant Leipzig to date.

Resource-saving painting processes

At launch, the fully electric MINI Countryman comes in three additional body colours: British Racing Green, Chili Red and Blazing Blue – and with MINI’s trademark contrast roof, if desired. This is painted using a new overspray-free method that saves resources and is currently being readied for series operation. The term “overspray” refers to the mist of excess paint particles that forms when bodies are painted the conventional way. With the new technique, this mist no longer occurs. This makes it easier to paint in multiple colours as the laborious process of masking is no longer required. Overspray-free painting also helps save CO₂ emissions, as exhaust from the cabin requires less cleansing. In addition, it requires considerably less conditioned air, i.e. air that is brought to the exact temperature and humidity required for painting. As a result, less energy is needed to temper air and treat exhaust.

The burner technology used to dry the paint on contrast roofs was also converted for the start of MINI Countryman production and now consists of a bivalent system. The fuel-flexible burners can run on hydrogen (H2) as well as gas (methane, CH4) and even switch between the two while in operation. Five such bivalent hydrogen-capable burners are used to produce the contrast roofs for the MINI Countryman.

Further burners in the paintshop will also gradually switch to bivalent operations, with the next six hydrogen-capable burners just installed. This makes Leipzig a pioneer in the automotive industry and takes it ever closer to lower CO₂ emissions. “Our vision at Plant Leipzig is to decarbonise production as far as possible by replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen,” said Petra Peterhänsel, explaining the long-term focus of the facility. This will require sufficient green hydrogen from a grid. A regional hydrogen grid is currently in planning, with Plant Leipzig set to benefit.

Munich/Reykjavik. Two-digit sub-zero temperatures, deep snow-covered routes and uneven scree tracks promise real challenges. In the midst of Iceland's breathtaking nature, the new MINI Countryman S ALL4 can prove its off-road qualities. In the John Cooper Works Trim with a bright chili red body color and a shiny black contrasting roof in jet black, the grown crossover model already exudes a visually superior presence.

“The MINI Countryman S ALL4 impresses with driving fun on any terrain. Our customers benefit from the variability of a crossover with a robust off-road character. The MINI Countryman is both agile and spirited as well as safe and comfortable on longer distances,” says Stefanie Wurst, head of MINI.

Excellent even in snow and ice
Outdoor fans will experience the wild side of the largest volcanic island in the world, especially off the big roads. In winter on Iceland, rough terrain, snow-covered scree tracks and icy climbs challenge the precise driving qualities of the MINI Countryman S ALL4. The ALL4 all-wheel drive system supports the driver in all road and weather conditions. The fast and precise electronic control system distributes the drive power between the front and rear wheels as needed.

In combination with the slightly increased track width and the increased wheelbase, the model offers excellent driving dynamics with increased comfort. The chassis can be adjusted differently depending on the surface and environment. A well-balanced and comfortably adjusted suspension is ideal for exploring the Icelandic crater landscape. On solid roads and in city traffic, however, the MINI Countryman S ALL4 is particularly agile with its direct steering and sporty-tuned chassis.

The powerful 2.0 liter twin power turbo engine impresses on Iceland's long, straight roads with smooth running, increased output to 160 kW/218 hp and maximum torque of 360 Nm. In addition, a 48V mild hybrid engine supports the performance of the MINI Countryman S ALL4 (combined fuel consumption: 7.4 — 6.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 169 — 155 g/km in accordance with WLTP) in the low speed range through a temporary boost of 14 kW. *

Sporty design and clear aesthetics
The John Cooper Works Trim gives the MINI Countryman S ALL4 an individual motorsport look with distinctive diffusers at the front and rear. In JCW Trim, the bright Chili Red color and the characteristic contrasting roof and high-gloss jet black side mirrors give the body a powerful appearance. In keeping with this, the MINI LED headlights with the selected JCW signature only show two horizontal stripes as daytime running lights and accentuate the minimalist design language.

The John Cooper Works logo features clear outlines and the typical red-white-black color scheme on the octagonal front grille. In this new look, the logo also adorns the distinctive C-pillar, which connects flush with the stretched vehicle roof. Vertical rear lights underline the upright and sporty position of the MINI Countryman S ALL4. For the new model, light-alloy wheels are available in various designs and sizes ranging from 17 to 21 inches.

Sporty interior with a high level of travel comfort.
The MINI Countryman S ALL4 offers up to five passengers comfortable space in all seats. The backrest of the three rear seats is individually adjustable in six positions. The back seat, which can be moved up to 13 cm, provides either additional legroom or even more cargo space. The bright atmosphere in the interior is further reinforced by the panoramic glass roof. In the JCW Trim, equipment-specific seats made of high-quality synthetic leather with red contrasting stitching provide a secure grip and at the same time offer the right level of comfort. The black and red color scheme of the vehicle trim continues on the knitted surfaces of the interior door trim and dashboard.

Luggage can be easily stored in the 450-liter trunk. The rear seat backrest, which can be flexibly divided at a ratio of 40:20:40, allows the luggage compartment to be expanded to up to 1,450 liters as required. This means that even bulky objects can be easily transported when the back seat is completely folded.

On multi-lane roads, Driving Assistant Plus adds the option of partially automated Level 2 driving to the MINI Countryman for the first time. This allows the driver to take his hands off the steering wheel up to a speed of 60 km/h, provided that he continues to closely monitor the traffic and remains ready to intervene at any time.

Munich. With the introduction of the new models, MINI is describing the performance levels of its gasoline engines for the MINI Countryman with C and, as a more powerful model, with S. A diesel variant is also available. With the MINI Countryman C, the brand combines a high level of driving comfort and spacious room with an efficient 3-cylinder gasoline engine.

“As an entry-level model, the MINI Countryman C combines typical MINI features such as agility and driving pleasure with generous standard equipment,” says Stefanie Wurst, head of the MINI brand.

With an output of 125 kW/170 hp, the entry-level model accelerates in 8.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of 212 km/h. With 280 Nm of torque and efficient TwinPower Turbo technology, the vehicle has the necessary power and spontaneity for brand-typical driving pleasure. The integrated mild hybrid technology is used to recover braking energy and supports the internal combustion engine during accelerations with 14 kW electric drive power. This reduces the consumption and emissions of the MINI Countryman C (combined fuel consumption: 6.5 - 6.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 146 - 138 g/km in accordance with WLTP).

The exterior: puristic design with increased presence.

The new MINI Countryman is 13 centimeters longer and eight centimeters higher than its predecessor. The upright silhouette with clearly designed surfaces and the redesigned octagonal front grille contribute to the model's superior appearance. The reduced body design with delicate contours gives the model a sleek appearance. Typical of the brand, short overhangs underline the agile vehicle character. Distinctive LED headlights and rear lights accentuate the body design with optional new light signatures.

The stylish, concisely designed C-pillar adjoins the stretched vehicle roof flush and in the same colour. Piano Black roof rails are now standard equipment and maximize the transport options of the crossover model, for example with a roof rack or the MINI roof box.

On uneven roads, 202 mm ground clearance and the dynamic chassis provide additional safety and comfort. For the new MINI Countryman C, light-alloy wheels are available in various designs and sizes ranging from 17 to 21 inches.

The interior: spacious and versatile with typical MINI comfort.

The spacious interior of the new MINI Countryman can accommodate up to five adults. With a panoramic glass roof, the interior has additional brightness and all-round visibility. The standard sports seats with patterned multi-tone textile in the cockpit give passengers more space thanks to an additional width of three centimetres in the shoulder and elbow area. The backrest of the three rear seats can be individually adjusted in six positions by up to 12° degrees. The back seat, which can be moved up to 13 cm, creates additional legroom in the rear or even more cargo space. Thanks to the rear seat backrest, which can be folded down at a ratio of 40:20:40, the trunk volume of 450 litres to 1460 litres can be easily and flexibly adapted to personal needs.

At the centre of the minimalistic interior design is the round OLED display with a diameter of 240 mm. The new central instrument with a high-quality glass surface allows all infotainment and assistance systems to be operated conveniently and intuitively via touch or voice command. The MINI Experience Modes change the appearance of the cockpit with a combination of visual design, ambient lighting and sound design. All driving functions can be controlled via the characteristic MINI toggle bar.

For the first time, Driving Assistant Plus expands the MINI Countryman with the option of partially automated Level 2 driving on motorway-like routes. This allows the driver to take his hands off the steering wheel up to a speed of 60 km/h, provided that he continues to closely monitor the traffic and remains ready to intervene at any time.

Four trim options for individual expression.

The product structure of the new MINI Family offers a wide range of customization options with the new Essential, Classic, Favoured and JCW trim variants. Depending on the trim, different paint and roof colours as well as various interior finishes are available. The design of the new C-pillar element changes with the selected vehicle trim.

The particularly expressive Favoured trim, with the contrasting roof and the Vibrant Silver front grille frame, sets stylish accents to the Smokey Green body colour. 20-inch rims in the aerodynamically optimised Windmill Spoke 2-tone design accentuate the self-confident appearance of the MINI Countryman C.

In the interior, a two-tone colour gradient adorns the textile surface from the dashboard to the door panels. The innovative design is made from recycled polyester using a specially developed knitting process and contributes to the comfortable atmosphere of the interior. In addition to the heated sports steering wheel, the Favoured trim has perforated Vescin sports seats. They are offered in three colours with traditional accent stitching.

A new feature of MINI is the option of semi-automated driving on multi-lane routes. This allows the driver to take his hands off the steering wheel at speeds of up to 60 km/h, as long as he continues to closely monitor traffic and is ready to intervene at any time. When changing lanes, the assistant system helps by identifying the gaps in traffic that are necessary on the way to the exit. This then brings the vehicle to optimal speed and automatically initiates the lane change.

Regardless of the terrain — a MINI Countryman is and has always been recognizable as a MINI at first glance. The new design impresses with its particularly clear aesthetics. From the front, the vehicle looks tidy and is characterized by the tense shape of the bonnet and the new octagonal front grille. The short overhangs and the slim outline are just as typical MINI as the stretched contrasting roof.

The wide and upright stand of the new MINI Countryman underlines its presence and solid off-road character. Vertical rear lights frame the vehicle silhouette and make the new MINI crossover model look particularly upright and sporty.

The vehicle design, reduced to the essentials, can be presented in various ways using four trims — Essential, Classic, Favoured, John Cooper Works — for the exterior and interior. For example, the Favoured Trim accentuates the individual character of the MINI Countryman S ALL4 with particularly expressive details. Breaking new ground with innovative materials.

In the interior of the new MINI Countryman S ALL4, clear shapes underline the new design language. The dashboard with two-tone textile creates a new and particularly homely feeling of space. The panoramic glass roof brings more light into the interior, and high-quality comfort seats provide a secure and comfortable grip.

High-quality materials, innovative technology and individually adjustable lighting create an immersive driving experience. One of the highlights of the new MINI Countryman are the MINI Experience Modes. Each mode has its own design and ambient lighting. With a single command, the look and atmosphere of the cockpit is completely changed. The various modes emphasize different aspects of the diverse adventurer. The new MINI Driving Sounds create a unique atmosphere that supports personal driving settings particularly emotionally with specially composed sounds.

In the cockpit of the MINI Countryman, the focus is on the high-resolution, round OLED display. With 240 mm diameter and a high-quality glass surface, the instrument cluster sets a new standard. For convenient operation of  the infotainment and assistance systems, the MINI Interaction Unit moved closer to the  driver and passenger. Leipzig. The start of MINI Countryman production marks a number of firsts and milestones for BMW Group Plant Leipzig: for the first time, a MINI model is being made in Germany – on the same production line as the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series. It’s all made possible by the plant’s flexible structures and development. Over the last five years the BMW Group has invested €700 million to ready Leipzig for increased vehicle volumes and adapt it for MINI-specific requirements. By the end of 2024 the workforce in production will increase by over 900. In addition, the new MINI Countryman is a catalyst for innovations in sustainable production.

“By launching production of the MINI Countryman here in Leipzig, we are introducing multibrand operations to our flexible production system,” explained Milan Nedeljković, Board Member for Production. “Plant Leipzig also offers a number of highlights in terms of resource conservation in production, providing further evidence of the successful rollout of our long-term masterplan: the BMW iFACTORY.”

Seamless integration through flexible structures 

When it comes to production of the new MINI Countryman, the BMW Group is building on the skills and extreme flexibility of Plant Leipzig to forge new pathways in manufacturing. Seamlessly integrated into the production process, the MINI Countryman now rolls off the same assembly line as the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Thanks to its flexible assembly structures, Plant Leipzig is in a position to produce two brands with three different drives – combustion, plug-in-hybrid and fully electric – all on the same production line. The third-generation MINI Countryman will be available with a petrol, diesel or fully electric powertrain, with the high-voltage batteries for the MINI Countryman Electric also being made in Leipzig. It will reach dealerships on 17 February 2024.

Investments and recruitment to increase production volume

The BMW Group has invested some €500 million in Leipzig to increase production volume for new models. Since 2018 the bodyshop, paintshop, assembly and logistics have undergone extensive additions and upgrades, taking production capacity up from 250,000 units previously, to as much as 350,000 units a year at present.

To adapt the production system to MINI-specific requirements, the BMW Group invested around €200 million. Initially approx. 100 MINI Countryman cars a day will roll off the production lines, rising to 500 during the course of next year – in addition to the almost 1,000 BMW cars already coming out of the factory every day. This will not only secure existing jobs but also create up to 900 new ones in vehicle production alone.

Electromobility and MINI production drive development

Another important milestone in the development and extension of Plant Leipzig is its transition to electromobility. “Leipzig remains electric,” says a cheerful Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director. “With the BMW i3 and i8, we were at the vanguard of e-mobility at the BMW Group, and from 2024, we will be producing our next fully electric car: the MINI Countryman Electric. We will manufacture the high-voltage batteries for it in-house as well.”

Starting next year BMW Group Plant Leipzig will run the entire production process for the current fifth generation of high-voltage batteries. This consists of three stages: cell coating, module production and battery assembly. The five cell coating lines, three module production lines and the first high-voltage battery assembly lines are all in the process of going into operation, with a second high-voltage battery assembly line scheduled for launch in 2024.

Capacity for e-component production has also been increasing, since 2021, making Plant Leipzig an important a supplier across the BMW production network. The parts are used in fully electric vehicles such as the BMW iX1, BMW i4, BMW i5 and BMW iX. E-component production in Leipzig currently employs over 800 people, and there are plans to develop it further, with investments totalling more than €800 million.

Sustainable materials and production 

The MINI Countryman Electric is a major step in the MINI brand’s transition to full electrification by 2030 and combines an electrified go-kart feel with a reduced environmental footprint. In developing the new model, the MINI brand’s responsible attitude was very much in the focus with regard to materials and production: chrome no longer features anywhere in the interior or exterior, and the light-metal alloy wheels are cast from up to 70 percent secondary aluminium. The permanently electrically excited synchronous motors are highly efficient and made entirely without rare earth minerals.

The interior is made purely from innovative, high-quality materials that are easy on the environment. The dashboard, door facias, floor covering and foot mats, for example, are made of recycled textiles. A high-quality alternative to conventional materials such as plastics, recycled textiles reduce CO₂ emissions along the value chain and require less water to manufacture.

Innovative painting method for contrast roof 

One of the striking design features of the MINI exterior is the contrast roof, which can be ordered in a different colour from the rest of the body. In the MINI Countryman it will be painted using a new, resource-friendly method known as overspray-free painting. Currently being readied for series operation, overspray-free painting does away with the excess paint – or overspray – generated by conventional painting methods and makes surfaces with more than one colour easier to produce, as they no longer require the laborious process of masking. Overspray-free painting also helps save CO₂ emissions, as exhaust air from the cabin requires less cleansing. Plus it requires considerably less conditioned air, i.e. air that is brought to a set temperature and humidity. As a result, less energy is needed to temper air and treat exhaust.

Another sustainable innovation operating at Plant Leipzig is the burner technology used to dry the paint on contrast roofs. Last year Leipzig became the first car plant in the world to pilot the new technology, which can run on not only natural gas but also hydrogen. The flexible burners can burn hydrogen (H2), natural gas (methane – CH4) or a mixture of the two and can even switch between them without having to halt operations. After successful tests, Plant Leipzig has now installed five hydrogen-capable bivalent burners for series operations, which are now being used for the contrast roof of the MINI Countryman. Plans are in place to convert further burners in the paintshop to bivalent operations.

Plant Leipzig – Built for sustainability

At Plant Leipzig, the focus has always been very much on efficient processes and a long-term strategy for energy generation and consumption, ever since planning began. “Sustainability is in the DNA of BMW Group Plant Leipzig. There’s one example that everyone can see: our four wind turbines, which generate electricity for the plant,” Petra Peterhänsel explained. They were erected in 2013 and deliver 10 MW (generating approx.  25 GWh/year). The second milestone came in 2017, when the battery storage farm went on stream. Equipped with up to 700 second-life high-voltage batteries from BMW i3 vehicles, it offers interim electricity storage for energy from the wind turbines and elsewhere, helping to optimise local energy management and stabilise the grid.

“Our vision at Plant Leipzig is to decarbonise production as far as possible by replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen,” said Petra Peterhänsel, explaining the long-term focus of the facility. This will require sufficient green hydrogen from a grid. A regional hydrogen grid is currently in planning, with Plant Leipzig set to benefit.

The standard all-wheel drive system distributes its power precisely and reliably in every driving situation. A high-performance braking system with brake calipers in Chili Red colour ensures powerful and precise deceleration. The characteristic sound of the exhaust flap system also makes the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman instantly recognisable as a high-performance model. Inside, the engine sound generated in real time enhances the emotional driving experience. Optimised pistons, connecting rods and engine mounts extract maximum power from the two-litre turbo engine. An advanced, dual-drive exhaust turbocharger supercharges the engine. Together with the dethrottled air intake to the combustion chamber, this enables the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman to generate beefy performance and delivers an even more dynamic driving experience in every bend. The tyre diameter, which has been increased by 30 mm, is now 710 mm and the increased tyre width of 245 mm enhances the typical MINI go-kart feeling. Aerodynamically optimised 19 and 20-inch wheels, exclusive to JCW, round off the extensive range.

Advanced assistance systems provide added comfort.
The new MINI JCW Countryman features 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras in total. They support the innovative driver assistance systems and enable partially automated Level 2 driving in the comprehensive Driving Assistant Professional option package. The assistant can detect gaps in the traffic necessary for changing lanes heading towards an exit and brings the vehicle to the optimum speed for the assisted lane change. For the first time, drivers in the MINI Countryman can take their hands off the steering wheel on highway-like routes at speeds of up to 60 km/h, provided they continue to keep a close eye on traffic and remain ready to intervene at any time.

Great stature on any terrain.
The new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman has a bold and sporty look that reflects its performance and versatility. The exterior features a number of model-specific details that enhance its overall appearance. For example, the aerodynamic elements with vertical reflectors on the front of the car emphasise its wide stance, while the new MINI LED headlights with horizontal bars in JCW Signature Mode give the crossover a more expressive look. The front end is also characterised by the newly designed octagonal grille in high-gloss black and the newly designed three-colour JCW logo.

The newly designed C-pillar seamlessly joins the contrasting roof in motorsport-inspired Chili Red. The roof curves down towards the rear, giving the MINI JCW Countryman an agile silhouette despite its increased height and width.
The high-contrast exterior design, combined with the Legend Grey body colour, emphasises the sporty look of the model. At the rear, the upright John Cooper Works Signature Mode tail lights frame the upright vehicle body and underline the increased width.

Minimalist interior features racing DNA.
In the interior, the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman inspires with a reduced design. The cockpit is divided into an upper and lower section, with vertical door handles and air vents in the upper area. This emphasizes the upright and larger overall impression of the spacious crossover. The red and black colour scheme at the dashboard, along the door panels and on the high-grade JCW sports seats, is a nod to MINI's racing heritage. The dashboard is made of a two-tone textile made from recycled polyester.

The rear of the vehicle is highly versatile and spacious. The rear row of seats can be adjusted in length by up to 13 centimetres. With the rear seat folded down, even bulky items can be easily transported in the 460liter to 1,530 litre luggage compartment.

Increased functionality makes for an immersive driving experience.
You can use the toggle switches on the MINI toggle bar to control all driving functions. The central, high-resolution OLED display is home to all the other functions. Here, you can also select the new MINI Experience Modes and set up your preferred driving ambience using specially designed backgrounds and sounds. The go-kart mode provides a particularly sporty driving experience, and you can hear the engine sound with impressive intensity in the cabin. The MINI projector on the back of the OLED display can be used to bathe the dashboard in atmospheric colour schemes and patterns that correspond to the selected Experience Mode.

In addition, you can use the voice assistant to operate numerous functions, such as navigation, telephone, and entertainment. Voice-controlled interaction takes place on the circular OLED display in the form of an animation of graphic elements, typography, and an avatar.

Munich. The all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4 is a reliable companion for exploring new paths. As a spacious crossover model, the versatile adventurer enables locally emission-free mobility on a wide variety of terrain. This is guaranteed by the powerful ALL4 all-wheel drive, extended driving assistance functions, partially automated Level 2 driving and an electric range of up to 433 kilometers according to the WLTP test cycle. *

The modern, minimalistic design with clearly designed surfaces and wider wheel arches reinforces the look of the MINI Countryman SE ALL4. In addition, the all-rounder has grown significantly and now measures 4,433 mm in length, 1,843 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height. Fully electric all-wheel drive for locally emission-free adventures.
Two powerful electric motors with a total output of 230 kW/313 hp and a torque of 494 Nm guide the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 through any terrain. Together, they accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The powerful battery has an energy content of 66.45 kWh. *

With rapid charging with DC at up to 130 kW, just under 30 minutes are enough to charge the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent. Customers can optimize the charging process at any time through easy-to-understand settings and view them via the MINI app.

For a particularly pleasant start, charging can be completed by a fixed departure time and the vehicle interior can be air-conditioned to the desired temperature by then. For the first time, the new MINI Countryman SE ALL4 can be charged with the Plug & Charge system. This recognizes public charging stations without additional authorization and automatically starts the charging process at suitable charging stations.

Innovative assistance systems support the driver on the go. With the Driving Assistant Professional, the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 enables partially automated Level 2 driving on motorway-like routes for the first time. This allows the driver to take his hands off the wheel at speeds of up to 60 km/h, as long as he continues to follow the traffic closely and remains ready to intervene at any time. In addition, the assistant can identify gaps in traffic necessary to change lanes to the exit. It then brings the vehicle to the optimum speed for assisted lane changes.

The design of the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 underlines the character of the crossover model through the vertical orientation of the body details. The distinctive front grille, the distinctive headlights and the very sculptural bonnet underline the appearance. The distinctive light-alloy wheels of the MINI Countryman SE ALL4, measuring up to 20-inch, are aerodynamically optimised, just like the entire body. As a result, the model achieves a drag coefficient of 0.26, is more economical in consumption and has an increased range. The new MINI models interpret design features with impressive clarity.

Short overhangs, a short bonnet, a long wheelbase, and big wheels – the proportions of the new model generation are typical MINI. The visual three-part division into the vehicle body, the surrounding window area and the contrasting roof also ensures the new MINI models are instantly recognisable. The surfaces of the all-electric MINI Cooper and the MINI Countryman look particularly exciting thanks to the integrative treatment of details. Flush door handles, the absence of fender flares and side scuttles underline the clear and modern overall impression. The clearly defined shoulder area gives the new MINI models a decidedly athletic vehicle body.

The vehicle's character, which is as agile as it is compact, is reinforced by new daytime running light elements for the LED headlights and the Matrix LED taillights with three different settings on all new vehicle models. These individual light signatures each support different aspects of the car body design and interact with the environment by means of a special welcome and farewell light animation.

The all-electric MINI Cooper: the reinvention of the original.
Going into its fifth model generation, the MINI Cooper 3-door still embodies the core of the brand. As an all-electric vehicle, the new MINI is available in the Cooper E variant and as the Cooper SE, featuring higher output and range. Within the new MINI family, “Cooper” refers to all MINI 3-door and 5-door models, and also the MINI Convertible. It is no longer used as an engine specification. The classic round headlights and the striking octagonal grille are the dominant features of the front section, making the model the characteristic face of MINI.

The distinctively structured bonnet contributes to the intriguing surface design. Black side sills visually move the all-electric MINI Cooper closer to the road. Four different trims – Essential, Classic, Favoured and JCW – serve the purpose of differentiation, each giving the new MINI its own distinct character.

The 135 kW/184 hp electric motor in the MINI Cooper E generates a torque of 290 Nm and accelerates the vehicle from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. With an output of 160 kW/218 hp, the MINI Cooper SE sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds with a maximum torque of 330 Nm. The range determined in the WLTP test cycle is 305 kilometres for the MINI Cooper E and 402 kilometres for the MINI Cooper SE. *

The interior: minimalist, digital, immersive & warm.
In the interior, the design of the front section harks back to the elegantly minimalist design of the classic Mini with a slim and generous dashboard and a multifunction steering wheel for hallmark MINI go-kart feeling. The central OLED display, the MINI Interaction Unit, sets a new standard with its high resolution and contributes to the heightened presence of the circular instrument, which has a diameter of 240 millimetres.

The new MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated by saying the words “Hey MINI”. Being able to control numerous functions with voice control increases comfort, facilitating greater concentration on driving. The newly designed reduced toggle bar with five switches includes all driving functions and is ideally positioned for the driver below the circular instrument. The gearshift has been eliminated to create additional storage space between the front seats. In the wireless charging area in this storage space, mobile devices can be charged and conveniently accessed at any time.

The new interior experience is mainly created by the textile surfaces. A specially developed knitting process is used to create the easy-care, versatile structure of the two-colour textile. Optionally, up to seven MINI Experience Modes bring the dashboard to life. Special light projections extend the colours of the round instrument across the dashboard, expanding the overall experience of the user interface in the interior. The new cockpit customisation options add a personal feel-good factor to the interior of the new MINI Cooper.

All trims of the all-electric MINI Cooper feature seats in high-quality Vescin artificial leather, while all textiles and yarns for the seat, knitted surfaces, vehicle headliner and floor are made from recycled materials.

The new MINI Countryman: all-electric and adventurous.
Higher, longer, MINI – with an additional six centimetres in height and thirteen centimetres in length, the new MINI Countryman has grown noticeably compared to its predecessor, offering even more space and comfort. Wider wheel arches and a clear, modern design enhance the crossover aesthetic appeal of the rugged MINI adventurer. The elegant design of the C-pillar differs according to the vehicle trim and is based on one of the vehicle’s four roof colours. The upright shape of the new Matrix taillights frame the rear of the vehicle. Below the model lettering, the body tapers across the entire width and, together with the striking, all-round vehicle band in black, emphasises the enhanced presence of the new MINI Countryman.

The 150 kW/204 hp electric motor in the MINI Countryman E generates a torque of 250 Nm and accelerates the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. With 230 kW/313 hp, the electric motors of the all-wheel drive MINI Countryman SE ALL4 generate a combined torque of 494 Nm in total and accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The range determined according to the WLTP test cycle is 462 kilometres for the MINI Countryman E and 433 kilometres for the MINI Countryman SE ALL4. *

The interior: individual, multifunctional and full of high-level comfort.
In the interior, the versatile new MINI Countryman is the largest and most spacious MINI model available thanks to its high degree of adaptability. The clearly designed dashboard and the door panels are covered with woven textile surfaces. Their design is coordinated with eight different MINI Experience Modes: these maximise the options for individualising the interior by means of light projections, a customisable user interface and new engine sounds.
The MINI Operating System 9, which has been optimised for touch and voice control, together with the central OLED display with a diameter of 240 millimetres and many new, digital additional functions in the MINI Connected Package, noticeably raises the level of hallmark MINI driving fun in the cockpit of the new MINI Countryman. This also becomes apparent in the newly designed multifunction steering wheel with two-spoke design and optional textile strap instead of the classic lower spoke. Compared to the MINI Cooper, the air outlets in the cockpit are arranged vertically and, together with the upright dashboard, emphasise the character of the new MINI Countryman.

As in the exterior, the vertically mounted door handles in the interior are integrated flush with the surfaces. In combination with the tinted panoramic glass roof and the clear, reduced shapes of the front seats and rear seat, the ambience in the new MINI Countryman is particularly bright and spacious. The increased body size provides additional headroom and legroom, expanding the space options in the compact premium Crossover. The four available trims – Essential, Classic, Favoured and JCW – offer different design and equipment levels and give the new MINI Countryman a distinctive character.

Munich. In the interior, the robust MINI adventurer offers even more space, comfort and safety – Even off the beaten track thanks to all-wheel drive. The new MINI Experience Modes and expanded driving assistant systems including the voice-controlled MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant make excursions in the new MINI Countryman even more comfortable and entertaining. The all-electric drivetrain contributes to this too, further enhancing the brand’s hallmark driving fun with two levels of power output. As the first MINI made in Germany, the model also breaks new ground in terms of production.

The 4,433 mm long, 1,843 mm wide and 1,656 mm high
MINI Countryman is both a stylish all-rounder and a spacious everyday companion. Thanks to the wheelbase, which has been increased to 2,692 mm, comfort has been further increased. The all-electric MINI Countryman is available in two performance levels: As a
MINI Countryman E with an output of 150 kW/204 hp and a torque of
250 Nm, it has a range of 462 km. The MINI Countryman SE ALL4 with 230 kW/313 hp and 494 Nm has achieved a wide of 433 km.*  

In its electrified third generation, the largest model in the new MINI family, continues the brand’s journey into an era of locally emission-free electric mobility. The compact crossover model has been on course for success ever since its market launch in 2010, with five doors and – new for MINI at the time – more than four metres in length. No wonder: after all, the optional all-wheel drive of this powerfully motorised adventurer ensures safe and unbridled driving fun – even off the beaten track.

The new MINI design language: Charismatic Simplicity.
The design of the new MINI model generation is modern, digital and unmistakable. With the new MINI family, the brand takes driving fun, the user experience and a responsible attitude forward into a new era. This comprehensive transformation on the way to becoming an all-electric brand by 2030 is reflected in the authentic design of the new models, combining progressive technology with the elementary principles of the brand’s body design and origins. In doing so, it incorporates the urban character of MINI along with the sheer joy of innovation.

“The new MINI Countryman is our vehicle for the whole family. In its latest generation, it has not only grown in height, length and interior — it has also noticeably improved in character, appearance and experience. It is now even more present, more spacious and more stable. His presence on the front is reflected in the upright proportions and vertical orientation of the design language. Its solid and stable character is also immediately recognizable by the more distinctive radiator grille, distinctive headlights and its very sculptural bonnet,” says Oliver Heilmer, Head of MINI Design.

The exterior design: expressive minimalism with character.
With its upright and minimalist silhouette, the new MINI Countryman embodies the adventurous flair, versatility and reliability of a compact crossover vehicle. The car’s expressive off-road character is defined by typical MINI proportions, ensuring the new MINI Countryman has high recognition value. Short overhangs, a short bonnet and the contrasting long wheelbase with large wheels combine classic MINI design features with an athletically grown body.

In addition, the new design of the MINI Countryman embraces improved aerodynamics in order to achieve environmentally friendly consumption figures based on this aspect of the vehicle as well. The result is an impressive cd value of 0.26 for the all-electric MINI Countryman – compared to 0.31 in the predecessor model. As such, the next-generation MINI crossover model achieves a new optimum in comparison with its competitors, embracing clever vehicle design with a minimal footprint.

The modern exterior design is supported by clear-cut surfaces, a slightly curved roof with a seamless transition to the newly designed C-pillar in a trim-specific shape, and the characteristic circumferential Black Band. The distinctive C-pillar element creates a new, highly visible stage for differentiating between different models, equipment options and subsequent editions. The design depends on the selected equipment and thus differentiates between the equipment variants. Graphics and lettering are minimalistic, blend harmoniously with the bas-relief and also match the color of the selected contrasting roof.

Reduction to the essentials results in hallmark MINI design features such as the visual three-part division in vehicle body, a circumferential window area and a contrasting roof having an even greater impact, allowing the new design language to develop a powerful presence.

MINI LED headlights with Signature Modes: striking radiance thanks to individual light modes.
The front end of the all-electric MINI Countryman is defined by the expressive contour of the new octagonal front grille. A particularly small radar sensor is integrated flush into its surface to support the increased functionality of the driver assistant systems.
In the new model generation, the MINI Countryman is the first vehicle with Level 2 assistance systems that enable semi-automated driving. Certain design details in the vehicle front vary depending on the chosen trim level. For example, the Favoured Trim places the spotlight on the new Vibrant Silver accent colour for exterior details.

The daytime running light elements of theLED lights support this striking look with fresh radiance due to unique light signatures. Optionally, the daytime running light elements can be switched to create three light signatures in the front and rear LED lights, thereby reinforcing the distinctive character of each vehicle. In addition, all light modes start and end with a specially orchestrated welcome and goodbye animation. This interaction with the vehicle increases the anticipation of the MINI even before you set off.

Purist design for a powerful presence and increased dynamic performance.
As with the body design as a whole, the front headlights are not framed with chrome elements anymore, which results in the front section having a focused expression. Together with the tautly curved bonnet, the slightly wider track and the raised body, the most versatile MINI exudes superior robustness.

Viewed from the side, the new MINI Countryman has a minimalist appearance with a powerful presence. The circumferential Black Band
is narrower than on the predecessor. The distinctive design of the C-pillar supports the roofline at the rear of the vehicle while at the same time making it appear shorter. This makes the entire vehicle body look more upright, emphasising the character of the new MINI Countryman. Rims of up to 20 inches in various designs add to the robust appearance. The focus is much more on the body color generating an elegant appearance.

As a result of the new MINI aesthetic, the rear section has an especially consistent appearance with its clear surfaces and flush rear lights. Here, the vertical light cluster quotes the classic MINI lights and frames the large central section of the vehicle’s rear. This emphasises the wider stance of the new MINI Countryman while at the same time giving the body a particularly high-quality and upright appearance. As with the front headlights, the rear lights are also able to highlight certain vehicle characteristics by means of different modes. The pronounced shoulder section reinforces the powerful appearance of the new MINI Countryman. The rear tapers off below the model inscription, visually dividing the rear into two sections. The rear apron in the lower area emphasises the solid stance of the vehicle, while the generous surfaces in the upper area make the vehicle look lighter.

Four individual trims and new roof colours.
With Vibrant Silver, a new shade expands the MINI Countryman's range of characteristic contrasting roofs. In addition, the model is available in four different trims. The Essential Trim presents maximum clarity and a reduced overall appearance, highlighting certain functional parts such as the logo in the new colour Vibrant Silver. The new range of external paint finishes underlines the modernity of the new MINI adventurer, setting positive accentuations with bright tones such as Indigo Sunset Blue.

While the Classic Trim primarily applies to the interior, the Favoured Trim features particularly expressive details on the exterior. This trim variant, for example, offers on the new MINI Countryman the option of choosing the new Vibrant Silver shade for the roof matching the contrasting front grille.

Meanwhile the John Cooper Works (JCW) Trim lends maximum emphasis to the sporty flair of the MINI Countryman with a distinctive front and rear design. The front grille frame and logo in high-gloss black emphasise the car’s powerful overall impression together with the trim-specific bonnet stripes in red and black. A contrasting roof in Chili Red – inspired by motor sports – along with the striking C-pillar in the same colour and a JCW logo optionally emphasises to the hallmark MINI driving dynamics.

The interior: generous, digital, immersive & warm.
The dashboard in the new MINI Countryman works entirely without an additional display behind the steering wheel: all relevant content is projected onto the optional head-up display. This reduction to the essentials opens up the view to the front, shaping the spacious interior with cleverly designed, high-quality components.

Like the new MINI Cooper, the spacious, curved dashboard in Classic, Favoured and JCW trim is also made of textile surfaces for the first time. The new, homely feel-good atmosphere in the MINI Countryman
is defined by warm, pleasant materials. A specially developed knitting process is used to create the versatile, easy-care structure of the textile in two-colour design made of recycled polyester. The entire interior is divided into an upper and lower section along a horizontal line below the new round instrument. Above this, all design elements such as the air vents and door handles are vertically aligned, emphasising the character of the vehicle, also in the interior.

Clear shapes in the cockpit and the increased space in the front seats give the interior a modern, airy feel. The driver and front passenger enjoy significantly enhanced comfort in the new MINI Countryman, with almost three centimetres of additional width in the shoulder and elbow area. The shoulder width of the rear seats has also been increased by 2.5 centimetres.

The optional panoramic glass roof makes the interior particularly bright and friendly, with a front half which can be opened. The sport seats
are available in a basic version and in a JCW version as well as with an optional electric seat adjustment with memory function. Optionally, the massage function can provide additional relaxation. Between the front seats, the wide, adjustable central armrest enhances the seating comfort.

The rear of the vehicle offers maximum reduction and space. The position of the rear row of seats can be adjusted in length by up to
13 centimetres. This provides either highly comfortable legroom at
the rear or additional volume in the luggage compartment.
The backrest of the three rear seats is also individually adjustable in six positions by up to 12 degrees. This means that the seat either offers the option to lean back or else supports an upright sitting posture. With the rear seat folded down, even bulky items can be easily transported in the 460-litre to 1,450-litre luggage compartment. An additional floor compartment provides convenient space for the charging accessories of the all-electric MINI Countryman. The optionally available trailer hitch offers an additional plus in practicality. The trailer hitch can be electrically retracted and extended. The towing capacity is up to
1,200 kg.

MINI Interaction Unit: High-resolution OLED display brings a quantum leap into the digital age.
The central OLED display sets a new benchmark with its high resolution and, for the first time, its round shape. The centre icon is the defining feature of the interior, extending the classic round instrument of the predecessor model with the addition of a completely new feel and versatile functions. As an instrument cluster, the MINI Interaction Unit is a centre of both experience and comfort. Thanks to the MINI Operating System 9, all vehicle functions can be operated intuitively via touch or voice. In the redesigned cockpit, the display is moved closer to both front seats and is particularly easy to reach. The diameter of the thin touch display with a high-quality glass edge and a diameter of 240 mm is reminiscent of the usual smartphone standards in its operating logic.

The graphic presentation of the content is modern and focuses on the essentials. The upper area contains relevant vehicle-related information such as speed and battery status. When the speed indicator is pressed, a large, striking display with full-screen speedometer appears that puts a clear focus on driving. In the Home menu, the other widgets are displayed in thumbnail view to the left and right of the current menu function. They can be brought up and selected by swiping horizontally to the centre. In the lower area of the OLED display, the menu items Navigation, Media, Phone and Climate can be selected directly at any time. All other functions can be accessed via the menu in the same way as on a smartphone. The display returns to the default setting via the home button.

Emotional MINI Experience Modes: for immersive driving experiences.
The optional MINI Experience Modes extend the indoor experience using a projector unit behind the round instrument. The dashboard thus shines in different patterns and colours with special light graphics, depending on the choice of experience mode. The colours of the ambient lighting throughout the vehicle are based on the projected light patterns. In combination with the newly created MINI Driving Sounds on the all-electric MINI Countryman and specific graphic elements on the OLED display, MINI fans can experience the entire interior of the new MINI Countryman in a completely new way.

The immersive user experience adds entirely new customisation options to the new MINI Countryman. In Personal Mode, for example, an individually selected image can be set as the display background via the MINI App. A digital colour picker then identifies the dominant colours of the image for projection onto the textile dashboard surfaces.
The ambient lighting under the dashboard and in the door mirror is also colour-coded to match these projections.

Specially designed dynamic backgrounds give the different MINI Experience Modes a particularly vibrant look. Subtle light movements support the various options of the modes without distracting the driver. Each mode makes a “Mode App” the focus of the display that matches the ambience. In Go-Kart Mode there is a highly dynamic focus on MINI racing DNA, for example. The display and the interior as a whole then feature the colours anthracite and red, while specific analogue displays for driving dynamics complement this MINI Experience Mode inspired by John Cooper Works. In Vivid Mode, the ambient lighting is based on the colours of the album cover of the current music playback. Core Mode, Green Mode, Timeless Mode, Balance Mode and Personal Mode are also available for selection according to mood and personal needs. Trail mode, which focuses on the driver's desire to discover, is unique for the MINI Countryman.

The redesigned toggle bar. simply typical MINI.
Underneath the dashboard, the design of the new MINI Countryman
is particularly tidy in appearance and steeped in history. The design
of the newly configured toggle bar quotes the various functions with five individually designed toggle switches. This makes the most important driving functions (parking brake, gear selector, start/stop key, experience mode toggle, volume control) directly accessible. At the same time it eliminates the gear selector in the center console generating space for practical and spacious storage options.

In addition to the enlarged cup holders, this also includes a new, generous storage area below the toggle bar. The latter provides space for smartphones to be stowed at an easy-to-find location and wirelessly charged at the same time. Starting with the “Favoured Trim”, a storage box with a matching knit cover is also available as standard.

Four newly designed trims for an individual look.
The new, modern color and material concept is also deliberately kept minimalistic. Only newly developed, high-quality and environmentally friendly materials are used. Recycled polyester surfaces in the form of
a high-quality 2D knit cover the dashboard and the interior of the door. Their two-tone design adds distinctive accents, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the interior. Four newly designed trims convey differing versions of the modern feel-good concept in the interior.

The Essential Trim features an interior of maximum clarity and reduction. Black sports seats with distinctly patterned multitone textile harmonise with a coloured textile band on the dashboard. Certain functional parts on the inside and outside are highlighted with the new accent colour Vibrant Silver. On the exterior, for example, the logo appears in the new colour shade, contrasting sharply with the glossy black, octagonal front grille.

Starting with the Classic Trim, the two-spoke basic steering wheel is replaced as a three-spoke version with a new textile strap in the six o´clock spoke. In addition, MINI uses a modern 2D knitted textile in
the interior of a production vehicle for the first time. On the dashboard and doors, two-tone black and blue knitted textile provides a fascinating contrast to the high-quality synthetic leather seat. The latter is available in grey and black featuring a perforated houndstooth pattern, while the side contrasts in blue textile.

The contemporary, high-quality Favoured Trim is the most expressive variant. The elegant Dark Petrol finish extends from the dashboard to
the door panels, where it merges smoothly with brown knitted textile. Extravagant sports seats with traditional accent stitching and embroidered MINI logo are available in three colours. The perforated synthetic leather made of Vescin sets dark or light accents with
a particularly high-quality look, according to preference. The exterior with the front grille in Vibrant Silver can be combined in a particularly apt way with the complete new roof, also in the colour Vibrant Silver.

The JCW Trim offers an interpretation of the new material concept that lends maximum emphasis to sporty flair. The JCW seat with sports seat geometry and additional lateral support noticeably enhances comfort. Combined with multi-coloured knitted textile and black synthetic leather with red stitching, the colour concept echoes the design of the dashboard and door trim. A distinct front and rear design likewise highlights the racing DNA of the trim in the exterior, with the vehicle grille and logo in high-gloss black underlining the powerful overall impression. Optional features include a contrasting Chili Red roof and JCW-specific bonnet stripes in red or black.

“Hey MINI!”: the first MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant.
In the new MINI Countryman, numerous functions can be controlled using the brand’s first ever fully-fledged voice assistant. The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated with the greeting
“Hey MINI” or by using the push-to-talk steering wheel button. Voice-controlled interaction takes place on the round OLED display in the form of an animation of graphic elements, typography and an avatar. For the visualisation, users have the option to choose between “MINI” – a stylised representation of a MINI – or optionally "Spike" already familiar to many MINI fans. Communication with this virtual travel companion is particularly true-to-life thanks to improved voice recognition. In order to ensure smoother communication, oral utterances are transmitted instantly and visualised on the display. In this way, it is possible to control navigation, telephony, entertainment and numerous other vehicle functions by simply speaking the relevant command.

In the course of the dialogue with the driver, the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant continuously learns and is able to take on day-to-day tasks on repeated routes. Based on geo-based data, for example, the vehicle can learn to automatically open the window when entering a car park, thereby making day-to-day routines more convenient and personal.

Advanced assistance systems: relaxed driving with improved safety.
In addition to the familiar Automatic Active Cruise Control, the Steering and Lane Assistant supports lateral guidance as part of the optional Driving Assistant Plus package. Convenient and cooperative steering helps the driver stay on track. The increased comfort offered by the system combines comfortable, relaxed and superior control of the vehicle while relieving the driver of the monotonous and less demanding aspects of driving. The clear-cut arrangement of the displays, operating elements and easy-to-understand functional features result in a high degree of system safety.

The comprehensive Driving Assistant Professional option package includes a new function that helps the driver take the right exit based
on semi-automated Level 2 driving. Using the vehicle sensors and other assistance systems, the assistant detects gaps in the traffic necessary for the lane change towards the exit and ensures the vehicle is travelling at the optimum speed for the assisted lane change.

For the first time, the MINI Countryman also offers semi-automated driving on motorway-like routes at speeds of up to 60 km/h. Up to this speed, the driver can take their hands off the steering wheel providing they continue to follow the traffic closely. The driver must be ready to actively steer and brake at all times. This function builds on the other driver assistance systems, taking over both longitudinal and lateral guidance within the current lane.

All options offered by the advanced driver assistant systems are visualised in real time by means of Assisted View in the OLED display. The fact that the control suggestions provided by the Driving Assistant Systems are straightforward to follow makes the new systems easier
to use.

As standard, a new Trailer Assistant helps when manoeuvring into a parking space with a trailer and offers advice on the required steering wheel angle when reversing. In addition to automatic parking functions and the 360-degree Parking View, the new MINI Countryman is able to identify possible parking spaces more clearly thanks to 12 ultrasonic sensors and four Surround View cameras, and it can also independently initiate space-restricted parking procedures. As part of the optional Parking Assistant Professional, the vehicle can be manoeuvred out of a parking space via smartphone using the new Remote Parking function. If there is insufficient room at the side of the vehicle, the MINI Countryman uses this function to drive out of the parking space by itself, making it easier for the driver to get in.

The new MINI Operating System 9: modern connectivity for digital convenience.
The new “Charismatic Simplicity” design language is also reflected in the aesthetic of the user interface, which brings together functional and emotional elements. The reduced design uses all-new graphics to create an extremely modern look. Static and dynamic elements blend naturally into the circular form of the OLED display, following a clear structure. Micro-animations enhance the already extremely intuitive interaction between the driver and central instrument and underscore the digital character of the new MINI family.

MINI Operating System 9 is an in-house development by the BMW Group and is based on an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software stack. Operation is intuitive and follows the standards familiar from consumer electronics.

At the centre of the screen is the start menu, where personalised content can be selected and launched by swiping to the side. In the lower section of the screen is the fixed status bar containing the menu items “Navigation”, “Media”, “Telephony”, “All Apps” and, depending on the situation, “Home”, which can be selected directly. Swiping up from the lower edge of the screen reveals a tool belt, a process customers will be familiar with from many consumer electronics devices. Favourite functions can be stored here and called up again rapidly, i. e. navigation destinations and radio stations. The tool belt can also be activated via the star button on the multifunction steering wheel. The upper screen area is reserved for driving-relevant content such as the vehicle speed and important information on the vehicle status. The optional Head-up display shows the most important information for the driver in their field of view.

The temperature for the driver and front passenger is permanently displayed on the left- and right-hand edge of the screen. The climate control settings are integrated into the MINI Interaction Unit and can always be adjusted on the top layer by touch or voice command.

Depending on the Experience Mode selected, a single tap on the speed display transforms the entire MINI Interaction Unit into a MINI-typical speedometer.

“The new MINI Operating System 9 is characterised by simple, emotional touch operation that is specific to MINI. Together with the new cloud-based MINI Navigation for particularly precise and fast route calculation, high-speed connectivity and optional 5G capability, the new MINI Countryman takes a giant leap into the digital world, thereby underlining the brand’s charismatic heritage,” says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI.

When driving, the entire MINI navigation package in conjunction with the optional MINI Connected Package provides support through realistic 3D visualizations in complicated turning situations, presentation of the current traffic situation even without activated route guidance, information on parking options including digital payment options, and much more. In addition, an optional augmented reality function is available for visualizing turning instructions. For the all-electric MINI Countryman, a charge-optimized route can be calculated immediately after the destination has been entered.

In addition, MINI Connected Upgrades allow flexible bookings of additional vehicle functions – simply digital. In conjunction with the optionally available MINI Connected Package, the MINI Connected Store provides access to a constantly evolving variety of practical and entertaining apps, including gaming, music and video streaming. The new AirConsole app provides a unique form of in-car gaming for all passengers, making the smartphone the controller of the game on the OLED display.

Electrified go-kart feeling based on progressive drivetrain technology.
The new MINI Countryman enables locally emission-free mobility and
all-electric driving fun. The completely renewed powertrain and the increased electric range provide the option to go on excursions beyond the city limits – with two powerful electric motors and all-wheel drive. Fully electric, the vehicle is available in the Countryman E variant and with increased output and all-wheel drive as the Countryman SE ALL4.

The 150 kW/204 hp electric motor in the MINI Countryman E achieves 250 Nm of torque, accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 170 km/h. With 230 kW/313 hp, the electric motors in the all-wheel-drive MINI Countryman SE ALL4 achieve a combined torque of 494 Nm, accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The powerful battery has an energy capacity of 66.45 kWh. *

The new MINI Countryman is also available with innovative and efficient petrol engines. It is offered as the MINI Countryman C with front-wheel drive, an all-wheel drive MINI Countryman S ALL4 and an increased-output model with all-wheel drive in the variant MINI Countryman JCW ALL4. The new MINI Countryman will also be available as a diesel variant.

Excellent driving dynamics for comfortable and sporty mobility.
A slightly increased track width and enlarged wheelbase provide the basis for excellent driving dynamics. Even the basic chassis of the new MINI Countryman conveys a sense of sporty flair with the typical MINI go-kart feeling. As standard, the model features a high-quality, precisely tuned damping system combined with highly preloaded stabilisers. The latter provide an additional gain in steering precision and accuracy while at the same time ensuring sound roll support.

“Precisely tuned” means that the entire set of components from axles, steering and dampers through to ride and stability control systems go together to create an exceptional experience in all situations in terms
of comfortable and sporty driving. The new MINI Countryman transmits a very direct steering wheel feel with a rack ratio of 55 mm of rack travel per turn of the steering wheel.

The integrated braking system further contributes to the car’s excellent driving dynamics and controllability. A crisp, secure feeling when braking increases the dynamics and precision of the vehicle due to reliable stabilisation. In conjunction with the numerous driver assistance systems, shorter braking distances increase safety.

The customer can choose between a balanced and comfortable chassis configuration or a particularly sporty one, depending on the preferred individual driving experience. The Adaptive Suspension with 15 mm lowering and frequency-selective dampers is available as an option. This has a purely mechanical chassis that adapts to road conditions and offers significant added value in terms of simultaneous vehicle control. In addition, the 19-inch and 20-inch wheels can be combined with sports tyres to optimise the vehicle's lateral and longitudinal dynamics. Optimised 17-inch aerodynamic wheels additionally increase the range of the all-electric MINI Countryman.

An increase in tyre diameter by 30 mm to a total of 710 mm gives the new MINI Countryman an enhanced presence, while at the same time offering improved driving dynamics and comfort. In addition, the tyre width of the optionally available 19-inch and 20-inch rims is increased by 20 mm to 245 mm in order to emphasise the typical MINI go-kart feeling. The available tyre dimensions range from 18 inches to 20 inches.

New MINI Experience Modes for individually tailored driving fun.
For the first time, the MINI Experience Modes transmit the driving fun that is typical of the brand by digital and visual means, too. A flick of the “Experiences” toggle switch is all it takes to activate the different modes. The racing-inspired GO-KART Mode highlights the agility of the MINI Countryman by aligning the suspension tuning, thereby making the driving experience particularly emotional. In this mode, the projector unit behind the central OLED display also bathes the entire interior in the John Cooper Works-inspired shades of red. The throttle response of the accelerator pedal is optimised for sporty driving. For a particularly athletic driving experience, a go-kart driving sound has been created that features very marked pitch and load curves, thereby providing the appropriate sound backdrop for agile and dynamic driving. In addition, driving fun can be intensified by adjusting the steering behaviour and also specially calibrated intervention limits for the traction control.

Another aspect of typical MINI driving fun is emphasised by Green Mode. This optimises the efficiency of the drive as well as optimising
the throttle response for energy-saving driving, also aligning the electric motor to maximum range based on various parameters. Improved recuperation management in the new MINI Countryman is one of the contributing factors here: this feeds excess energy to the battery when braking or coasting, thereby increasing the vehicle’s range. Visualisations of their personal driving style allow the driver to see how it impacts on range. Tips for efficient driving and a power meter are a playful way of increasing the driver’s motivation to drive economically. For example, the driver is able to grasp the effect of their driving behaviour in concrete form based on gaining a “bonus range”.

What is more, these immersive driving experiences are enhanced by means of completely newly created acoustic worlds consisting of digital MINI Sounds. An optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System is available in the interior of the new MINI Countryman that provides a choice in acoustic terms, too, between an intense or a relaxing atmosphere by means of completely new driving sounds. The repertoire includes an unmistakable MINI brand sound as a mark of identification and jingles for the new MINI Experience Modes, as well as a collection of new sound signals to denote information and warning functions. These so-called earcons serve a similar purpose to visual icons in that they act as clearly established symbols for certain events or information. Some 30 of these sound signals have been newly created – from the acoustic accompaniment of the turn signals and the seat belt warning system through to the Park Distance Control (PDC) tones. This creates a distinctive recognition feature that is typical of MINI in the acoustic dimension, too.

Simplified and efficient battery charging.
The battery of the MINI Countryman can be charged via alternating current with 22 kW. Fast charging with direct current is possible in both all-electric models with 130 kW. This means that just under 30 minutes of charging at a fast charging station is enough to charge the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent. Depending on the weather conditions, active navigation via MINI Navigation to a fast charging station ensures the high-voltage battery reaches the ideal temperature for efficient charging in advance. This can significantly reduce charging time, especially in cold outdoor temperatures.

New, easy-to-understand setting options facilitate the charging process, increasing transparency and convenience for the customer. For example, the start time for charging can be selected individually, or an ideal time window for charging can be set. A certain target level for battery capacity can be determined in advance, too. For a particularly pleasant start, charging can be set to be completed by a selected departure time, and the vehicle interior can be air-conditioned to the desired temperature by this time.

The MINI App provides a convenient overview of the charging process even if the customer is not near the vehicle. This provides details of the current battery status, a charging-optimised route plan, and charging history to date – including all costs and savings.

in production as well. This includes dispensing with all chrome decorative elements in the exterior and interior as well as manufacturing the light alloy cast wheels from up to 70 per cent secondary aluminium. In combination with the fact that green electricity is used for production, it has been possible to reduce CO₂ emissions compared to conventional manufacturing processes. In addition, no rare earths are needed for the production of the efficient and permanently current-excited synchronous motors.

The surfaces, the inside of the doors and the vehicle floor and floor mats are made of recycled polyester. This high-quality, colourful and comfortable alternative to traditional materials significantly reduces CO₂ emissions along the value chain and uses less water in production than cotton.

The tour starts in the small town of Stirling. From the castle hill of Stirling Castle, one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland, the view extends far into the Highlands of Loch Lomond National Park. Stirling Castle was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century. It flourished under the early royal family of the Stewarts during the Renaissance.

From Stirling, take the A84 and A85 north along dense forests and deep blue lakes to the small village of Mid Lix. The branching A827 invites you to take a detour to the north-eastern mountain range along the shore of Loch Tay. Here, the MINI Countryman can demonstrate its comfortable and sporty driving dynamics for the first time on the winding route through the Munros.

Below Ben Lawers - at 1,214 metres one of the highest Munros in the region - the impressive dam of the same name dams up 344 metres of water from the surrounding mountain rivers. The MINI Countryman with its SAV presence fits perfectly into Scotland's unspoilt landscape. The necessary equipment for extended hikes can easily be stored in the spacious boot.

On the trail of James Bond.
The ups and downs of the Scottish Highlands awaken the visitor's urge to discover anew with each ascent. On the way northwest, the A82 leads into the Glencoe Mountain Range. Along the way, the winding road repeatedly passes numerous rivers, which flow into the spectacular loch landscape of Lochan na h-Achlaise behind the historic Bridge of Orchy.

Just beyond the bridge over Glen Etive, a narrow path leads south along the wild river with its numerous waterfalls deeper and deeper into the valley. The River Etive is considered one of the most challenging white water kayaking routes in Scotland. No wonder Daniel Craig as secret agent 007 also chose the route along its banks for a spectacular ride in the film "James Bond: Skyfall" to lose pursuers. On the way back south, the off-road tyres of the MINI Countryman ALL4 are undoubtedly better than the British sports car of the world's most famous agent.

Natural beauty and Atlantic delicacies.
Back on the A82 towards Arrochar, the waterfalls of Falloch offer a special vantage point. From here, continue south, with Loch Lomond in view at all times on the left, until the branching A83 leads west to Loch Fyne. It is the northernmost spur of the Clyde Fjord, which cuts deep into this stretch of coast from the Atlantic. Its tidal movements can be felt as far as Glasgow Harbour and the associated currents make the waters of Loch Fyne particularly fresh and nutrient-rich. Ideal conditions for breeding oysters and best hunting ground for numerous fish species. The result tastes best in the Loch Fyne Oysterbar, where you should definitely stop at the end of this adventurous discovery tour - of course with a wide view of the sea and mountains.

Leipzig. MINI's fully electric future will start in 2023 with, among other things, the new MINI Countryman at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig. This will be the first time that a MINI model is produced entirely in Germany. The locally emission-free all-rounder is an excellent fit for the BMW Group's sustainable production site in Leipzig, one of the most modern and sustainable automotive factories in the world. As the company's pilot project for establishing a "green plant," a long-term, sustainable strategy for energy generation and consumption comes into play here.

"We are looking forward to handing over the first MINI "Made in Germany" to our customers. The new, all-electric MINI Countryman demonstrates what the brand stands for: electrified go-kart feeling and a strong focus on a minimal environmental footprint," says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI. 

Petra Peterhaensel as Plant Director and Sonja Hengstler as Project Manager for the new MINI Countryman are responsible in Leipzig for the transformation toward more electromobility and sustainable production of the E-components as well as the entire vehicles. A core workforce of 5,600 employees produces around 1,000 vehicles every day. The new MINI Countryman comes off the production line in Leipzig together with the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This makes the location the first plant at which vehicles of the BMW and MINI brands are manufactured together, once again demonstrating maximum flexibility.

Electromobility as a driver.
The expansion of electromobility is an integral part of the BMW Group's sustainability strategy. Today, one in five MINI models is already electrified, a testament to MINI fans' enthusiasm for locally emission-free driving fun. The next major milestone and stimulus for the plant is the production of the new MINI Countryman, which will roll off the production line in Leipzig from the end of this year. The high-voltage batteries for the all-electric MINI Countryman will then come from the plant's own production facilities.

To this end, the BMW Group is expanding its capacities for e-component production at the Leipzig site by eight production lines by 2024 and investing more than 800 million euros. The future production area of 150,000 square meters on which E-components will be manufactured represents a sustainable investment in the future viability of the Leipzig plant. The expansion is associated with job security and even job growth. By 2024, more than 1,000 employees are to be employed in E-component production.

Long-term commitment to sustainability.
Sustainability is in the genes of the plant Leipzig. Part of the energy required for automotive production can be generated by four wind turbines 190 meters high directly on the Leipzig plant site. In 2021, 21.9 GWh of electricity was generated from wind power. This corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of over 5,000 3-person households. Since 2017, the electricity generated can be temporarily stored in the battery storage farm in up to 700 high-voltage batteries from BMW i3 models.

"Our Leipzig vision is the complete decarbonization of production by replacing fossil fuels with hydrogen. At the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, we are the first automotive plant in the world to use a newly developed burner technology in our paint shop that can use green hydrogen instead of natural gas. Hydrogen has already been used in plant logistics since 2013. Today, five hydrogen filling stations provide energy for over 130 fuel cell-powered industrial trucks, the largest fleet in Germany," emphasizes Plant Director Petra Peterhaensel.

As the brand's largest model, the all-electric MINI Countryman leads the new MINI family into an era of locally emission-free electromobility. The transformation to an all-electric brand by 2030 begins with this model generation. Thanks to space-saving components such as the particularly flat high-voltage battery, which is also produced at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig, the MINI Countryman will offer additional space and even greater comfort in the future.

When paved roads come to an abrupt end, 18-inch all-terrain wheels with GRABBER AT3 tires now support the vehicle's exceptional off-road capabilities in all weather conditions. And if the particularly spirited engine not only takes you to the end of the road, but also to the end of the day, the roof tent from the Italian specialist manufacturer AUTOHOME provides a spontaneous overnight accommodation option.

The MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 is characterized by maximum traction and driving stability. The 18-inch alloy wheels with GRABBER AT3 tires underscore the off-road characteristics of the edition model with an attractive finish featuring high-quality clear lacquer. The easy attachment and space-saving transport make it easy to decide to take additional gear along on discovery tours.

For the necessary rest off the track, the AUTOHOME roof tent offers the perfect place to sleep. The black box weighs 58 kilos and measures 210 by 130 centimeters. With carrier the MINI becomes thereby straight times 2.05 meters high. The interior height of the mobile accommodation is 94 centimeters. The tent is easy to erect: Unlock the box at the front and back, gas pressure springs open the flap. The tent is boarded via an aluminum folding ladder. Mesh pockets hold the nightly and indispensable small items, an LED light provides an illuminating view.

All exterior materials of the mobile sleeping space are made of recycled polyester from 2022. The walls of the roof tent are also made of polyester fibers, for the extraction of which PET bottles from the sea were recycled. Thus, each square meter of the fabric contains recycled plastic from five PET bottles, providing sustainable sleeping comfort for spontaneous overnight stays. On the Ecofoam mattress made of ecological polyurethane, exhausted explorers lie comfortably and allergy-free thanks to the neutral and dirt-repellent material properties and can set off for the next adventure in the morning well-rested.

With the new MINI Countryman, the tradition-steeped British brand continues to pursue its conquest of additional target groups. Even in its first generation, the MINI Countryman was a pioneer. As the first model with an exterior length of more than four metres, four doors, a large tailgate, five seats and all-wheel drive, it laid the foundations for the brand’s highly successful advance into the premium compact segment. The launch of the current model generation once again sees a significant optimisation in terms of space, versatility, functionality and ride comfort. In addition, the MINI Countryman has become a pioneering force for locally emissions-free mobility in hallmark brand style. The plug-in hybrid model MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.7 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.0 – 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 45 – 40 g/km) combines groundbreaking efficiency and hybrid-specific all-wheel drive with the option of purely electrically powered driving pleasure.

In addition to plug-in hybrid drive, the new MINI Countryman is available with three petrol engines and three diesel engines featuring the latest MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology. The engines have seen extensive further development and cover an output spectrum ranging from 75 kW/102 hp to 140 kW/190 hp (combined fuel consumption: 6.3 – 4.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 144 – 107 g/km) as well as already meeting the emissions standard Euro 6d, which will not be binding until 2021. Four of them can be combined with the all-wheel drive system ALL4 on request.

Distinctive proportions, powerful charisma.

Thanks to its unmistakable proportions, the new MINI Countryman is instantly recognisable as the brand’s largest model. The three-part structure of the vehicle body that is typical of MINI is interpreted in a particularly striking way by the model-specific roof line. The car’s upright stature and increased ground clearance are suggestive of generous interior space, robust character and inspiring driving characteristics – both on-road and off-road. The optional MINI ALL4 exterior look and the roof rails – also available as an optional extra – further underline the versatility of the new MINI Countryman. Meanwhile the aerodynamically optimised exterior features contained in the optional John Cooper Works package add an extra touch of sporty flair.

The precisely modified design of the car's front section lends even more intense emphasis to the powerful charisma of the new MINI Countryman. The new structure of the bumper covering, now entirely in body finish, ensures a particularly clear-cut and high-quality appearance. The redesigned radiator grille has the hexagonal contours that are typical of MINI and is surrounded by a slim, one-piece chrome frame. Its air intake is subdivided by three horizontal struts in the MINI One Countryman, MINI Cooper Countryman, MINI One D Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman. The radiator grille of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman and the new MINI Cooper SD Countryman is characterised by a hexagonal grid pattern with a red “S” and a single chrome strut.

Bright spot: LED headlamps now standard.

The redesign of the front section adds LED headlamps to the standard trim in the new MINI Countryman: here, the latest version of these lights features a particularly high-quality design that emphasises the technology used. The distinctive, slightly asymmetrically rounded contours of the headlamps are accentuated by a continuous band of light that takes on the function of both daytime driving light and turn indicator. The turning light included in the functional range of the LED headlamps provides intensive illumination of the side areas of the road when changing direction. The standard trim of the new MINI Countryman also includes LED fog lights, with a light band in the upper semicircle of each fog light serving as a parking light.

Adaptive LED headlamps with variable light distribution and matrix function for high beam are available as a newly added option. In addition to the turning light, they also provide bend lighting, automatically adapting their effect to the traffic situation and weather conditions. In urban traffic and when visibility is limited due to the weather conditions, the side area of the road is illuminated more intensely by adding the dimmed turning light. When driving on motorways it is possible to selectively increase the range of the high beam.

What is more, the adaptive LED headlamps in the new MINI Countryman now feature an automatic selective dip function for the high beam. For this purpose, the high beam is subdivided into four segments that can be activated and deactivated independently of each other and adapted to the situation on the road at speeds of over 70 km/h. As soon as the front camera of the new MINI Countryman detects an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle driving ahead, the space that vehicle occupies is only illuminated at low beam brightness, while the other high beam segments continue to illuminate the rest of the road in the normal way. As such, the matrix high beam is able to increase the range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users.

Redesigned rear apron and LED lights in Union Jack design.

With its redesigned bumper trim, the rear apron also contributes to the particularly powerful and contemporary look of the new MINI Countryman. The upright rear lights with chrome frame provide an exclusive, unmistakable accentuation that evokes the origins of the British brand. All lighting functions now feature high-quality LED technology as standard, while the graphic structure of the light source traces the pattern of the Union Jack. With its striking lines, the flag motif provides a distinctive form of identification – both during the day and in terms of night design.

Striking look: two new body finishes, Piano Black Exterior and new alloy wheels.

The range of body finishes opens up new possibilities for an individual look, including the newly added colours White Silver metallic and Sage Green metallic. Depending on the model variant, the roof and mirror caps of the new MINI Countryman can be finished in black, white or silver as an alternative to the body colour.

The Piano Black Exterior option – likewise new and available for all variants of the new MINI Countryman – ensures a particularly striking appearance: here, the headlamp surrounds, rear lights, radiator grille and side indicator elements – or side scuttles – are finished in high-gloss black instead of chrome, as are the door handles and the model lettering on the luggage compartment lid. Additional identification features in high-gloss black are available from the range of Original MINI Accessories, including the MINI logo and the “Cooper S” and “ALL4” inscriptions in Piano Black design. Matching exterior mirror caps and side scuttles with a grey-black flag pattern in Night Jack design are also available for retrofit.

Depending on the model variant, the new MINI Countryman is fitted as standard with light alloy wheels which are either 16-inch or 17-inch in size, with light alloy wheels in sizes up to 19 inches available as optional extras and as part of the Original MINI Accessories programme. 17-inch light alloy wheels in Channel Spoke Black design are new to the range of ex works options, as are 19-inch light alloy wheels in the design variant Turnstile Spoke 2-tone.

Interior: ample space and even greater scope for individual style.

The new MINI Countryman combines versatile driving characteristics with a versatile interior. Three fully-fledged seats are available at the rear. Alternatively, the second row of seats can also be used to expand transport capacity. By folding down the rear seat with a 40 : 20 : 40 split, storage space can be extended from 450 to up to 1 390 litres.

Selective customisation of the interior oriented towards the customer’s personal style has become even more attractive due to the addition of new options and a further developed product range. The leather variants Chester Indigo Blue and Chester Malt Brown have been newly added to the selection of seat upholstery options. The Colour Line for the lower section of the instrument panel and door trim, previously available as a single option, is now an integral part of the leather trim designed to match the relevant colour scheme.

The MINI Cooper S Countryman, MINI Cooper SD Countryman and MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 models now come as standard with Piano Black interior surfaces for the cockpit and door bezels. These are combined with accentuation strips in the variant British Oak dark. A new version of the highly exclusive MINI Yours interior surfaces is optionally available for all model variants. The optional MINI Yours Interior Style Shaded Silver conveys stylish sporty flair. This is ensured by combining an illuminated cockpit bezel in the variant Shaded Silver with door bezels in Dark Silver and accentuation strips in Hazy Grey.

Engines with optimised MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology and emission control to meet the Euro 6d emission standard.

An extensively further developed engine portfolio enables the new MINI Countryman to achieve an even more favourable balance between driving fun and fuel consumption. In addition to further optimisation of CO₂ levels, other aspects of the emissions performance have been likewise consistently improved by means of the relevant measures – including particulate filters for petrol engines and SCR with AdBlue injection for diesel engines. This means that all model variants of the new MINI Countryman now meet the particularly rigorous Euro 6d emission standard.

MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology is used in the 3-cylinder petrol engines of the new MINI One Countryman and the new MINI Cooper Countryman and in the 4-cylinder petrol engine of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman and now includes an exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder head along with turbo charging. Among other things, this ensures highly effective cooling of the exhaust gases and the turbocharging system. At the same time, crankcase cooling can be reduced when demand is low in the partial load range by means of a new split cooling valve. In addition, petrol engine direct injection operates at a maximum pressure that has been increased from 200 to 350 bar.

Like the petrol engines, the diesel engines also have a new starter generator with optimised efficiency. In the 3-cylinder engines of the new MINI One D Countryman and the 4-cylinder engines of the new MINI Cooper D Countryman and the new MINI Cooper SD Countryman, MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology consists of a turbocharging system featuring exhaust gas recirculation and common rail direct injection. The two-stage turbocharging system previously used exclusively in the most powerful diesel engine now also optimises the response of the 4-cylinder engine in the MINI Cooper D Countryman, with the injectors feeding fuel to the combustion chambers at a pressure of up to 2 500 bar.

ALL4 as an option for four engine variants – and a standard feature of the plug-in hybrid model.

The ALL4 all-wheel drive system provides a noticeable boost in terms of traction, driving stability and agility. As an alternative to the brand’s hallmark front-wheel power transmission, this system is optionally available for four model variants of the new MINI Countryman. With its fast and precise electronic control, the system ensures need-based distribution of power between the front and rear wheels in all road surface and weather conditions.

The new MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 is fitted with a hybrid-specific all-wheel drive system as standard. It is provided by the precisely controlled interaction between a 3-cylinder petrol engine transmitting its power to the front wheels with an electric synchronous motor that acts on the rear wheels. Together, the two power units produce a system output of 162 kW/220 hp. The latest eDrive technology available for BMW Group plug-in hybrid models also includes a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a gross energy content of 9.6 kWh, giving the new MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 a maximum electrically powered range of 55 to 61 kilometres.

8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard for two more model variants.

The new MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 comes with a 6-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. Meanwhile the MINI Cooper Countryman ALL4 and the MINI Cooper D Countryman ALL4 now feature an 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard, as do the MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4, MINI Cooper SD Countryman and MINI Cooper SD Countryman ALL4 models. It is also optionally available for the MINI Cooper D Countryman. For all other model variants, a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available to replace the standard 6-speed manual transmission.

As a further option, the most powerful petrol and diesel engines can also transmit their drive torque to a 7-speed Steptronic sports transmission with double clutch or an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission. This enables particularly rapid speed changes and increased shifting dynamics.

New equipment features: sports leather steering wheel, digital cockpit.

The interior of the new MINI Countryman also has increased appeal due to an extended range of standard equipment. It now includes a sports leather steering wheel in all model variants. In the new MINI Countryman, the front passenger can also adapt seat height as required. Electrically adjustable seats are available as an option, including a memory function on the driver’s side.

An optional digital instrument display is available for the new MINI Countryman. The display in Black Panel design behind the steering wheel has a diameter of 5.0 inches. The range of audio and navigation systems has been restructured. The Connected Media and Connected Navigation Plus options, available as an alternative to the basic configuration, each include an 8.8-inch colour screen with touchscreen function located in the central instrument that is typical of the brand. The circular control unit in the new MINI Countryman exhibits a refined surface look, with the audio control panel and the buttons for hazard lights and driver assistance systems now integrated even more harmoniously. Meanwhile touch-sensitive bookmark buttons and high-gloss Piano Black surfaces underscore the premium character of the central instrument.

Even the standard audio system offers audio streaming via a Bluetooth connection and a hands-free telephone system with USB interface. The Radio MINI Visual Boost and the digital instrument display form part of the optional equipment item Connected Media, while the Connected Navigation option makes a range of additional infotainment functions available in the new MINI Countryman in addition to providing a convenient route guidance system. This option also comprises wireless charging for compatible mobile phones and a second USB socket.

The new MINI Countryman: always online and up-to-date thanks to intelligent networking.

The new MINI Countryman is equipped with a SIM card that is permanently fitted in the car. This enables use of Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic detection of vehicle location and accident severity, as well as MINI TeleServices. The Connected Media option includes a wide range of MINI Connected digital services. The new MINI Countryman is always online, enabling seamless integration of the voice assistant Amazon Alexa.

This provides access to the Real Time Traffic Information service as well as the internet platform MINI Online and preparation for Apple CarPlay. MINI Connected can be used to send navigation destinations from the smartphone to the vehicle. The mobile phone connection also means that the vehicle’s navigation map is updated automatically.

Individual style for retrofitting: MINI Original Accessories.

High-quality retrofit options from the programme of MINI Original Accessories enable functionality, convenience, driving fun and individual style to be adapted even more precisely to personal preferences in the new MINI Countryman. Munich. Numerous new features in the area of drive technology enhance driving fun as well as reducing emissions in the current MINI models as of summer 2018. Emission control in all petrol-engine variants of the MINI 3 door, MINI 5 door and MINI Convertible as well as the MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman will include a particulate filter as of July 2018. The models of the British premium brand with this feature meet the particularly rigorous requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. This demonstrates how MINI consistently continues to pursue the optimisation of emissions in its current models. The diesel engine variants of the MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman have met the Euro 6d-TEMP standard since March 2018. Their emission control system includes not just a diesel particulate filter and an NO_X storage catalytic converter but also an SCR catalytic converter which features a special urea injection (AdBlue) for highly effective reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions.

In addition, the relevant model variants of the MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman will be fitted with enhanced petrol engines as of July 2018. Here, optimised MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology especially benefits fuel consumption and emission levels. As an alternative to the standard manual transmission, the petrol engine models of the MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman will be available with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission in future.

Thrilling shift dynamics, a high level of comfort, optimised convenience:
7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch.
Fast gear changes and a high level of internal efficiency are the properties of the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch available as an option for further variants of the successful MINI models in the premium compact segment from July 2018 onwards. The use of two clutches when changing gear enables particularly sporty acceleration without torque interrupt. In addition to enhanced driving fun, the design principle adapted from motor racing also has all the comfort features of an automatic transmission. It ensures harmonious and acoustically barely perceptible changes in drive position, free of load change reactions in the engine – not just when sprinting but also when decelerating. The 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch also enables use of the auto start/stop function and the coasting function to increase efficiency. Furthermore, the transmission control is networked with the navigation system if the vehicle is fitted with one. In this way, navigation data can be used to adapt the choice of gear perfectly to the route. Operation of the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is by means of an electronic gear selector switch. This transmits the driver's instructions by means of electrical impulses to the transmission control.

From July 2018 onwards, the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is also available as an option in combination with the enhanced petrol engines for the MINI Clubman and the MINI Countryman. The efficiency-optimised petrol engines fitted as standard with a particulate filter meet the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. With the 7-speed Steptronic transmission, the combined fuel consumption figure for the MINI One Clubman and the MINI Cooper Clubman is now 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres in each case (CO₂ level: 130 g/km). The figures for the MINI Cooper S Clubman are 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 133 g/km. The combined fuel consumption and the CO₂ emissions level of the MINI One Countryman with 7-speed Steptronic transmission are 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres and 135 – 134 g/km. For the MINI Cooper Countryman the figures are 5.9 to 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 134 – 132 g/km). The corresponding figures measured in the MINI Cooper S Countryman are 6.0 litres and 138 – 136 g/km (figures depend on the tyre format selected). All fuel consumption and emissions figures were arrived at using the new WLTP measuring procedure and then adapted to NEDC for comparison purposes by means of correlation.

Even faster gear changes are enabled by the 7-speed Steptronic sports transmission, available as an additional option for the MINI Cooper S Clubman and the MINI Cooper S Countryman. Shift paddles are available at the steering wheel in this version of the automatic transmission for manual intervention in the choice of drive position.

Thrilling sound, perfect connectivity: MINI Clubman with Connectivity Package.
The new Connectivity Package is available for the MINI Clubman from July 2018, providing the very highest level of entertainment pleasure and intelligent connectivity. It includes especially high-quality fittings for navigation, communication and sound, combined with perfect operation and functionality. The central component of the package is the option Connected Navigation Plus with 8.8-inch touchscreen and MINI Touch Controller, Real Time Traffic Information and automatic navigation map update via mobile phone connection, established by means of the integrated SIM card. The Connectivity Package likewise includes Apple CarPlay preparation, MINI Connected XL and telephony with Wireless Charging, allowing cable-free charging of mobile phones with this capability.

In addition, a DAB tuner allows reception of digitally transmitted radio programs in particularly high sound quality. An inspiring sound from all audio sources is also guaranteed by the Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system that is also included in the new Connectivity Package – with 12 speakers, an 8-channel digital amp and an output capacity of 360 watts.

As standard in the MINI Clubman and the MINI Countryman: automatic driving lights control.
An addition to the standard range of fittings for the MINI Clubman and the MINI Countryman from summer 2018 serves to enhance both comfort and safety. In future, the two MINI models in the premium compact segment will be fitted with automatic driving lights control as standard. This function ensures needs-oriented activation and deactivation of the headlights and rear lights depending on the light conditions in the environment of the vehicle. For this purpose, the driving light switch in both models can be turned to an additional position from July 2018: it is marked by a graphic symbol containing the letter "A". When using the automatic driving lights system, the lights are not only activated at night but also when dusk is falling and when visibility is poor due to the weather conditions, as well as when passing through tunnels or in dark multi-storey car parks.

Munich / New York. MINI is presenting its full production model lineup at the New York International Auto Show 2018, with a focus on the brand’s sportiest models. The highlight appearance at the show is the MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept. The MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept, provides a pure race feeling. The classic proportions of the MINI Hardtop are combined with expressive exterior components that optimize both weight and aerodynamic performance. In the interior, a roll cage, bucket seats, a puristically designed cockpit and the absence of a rear bench seat underline the sporting ambitions of the MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept.

Versatile, sporty and electrified: MINI driving fun in the premium compact segment. With brand’s unique driving fun and characteristic versatility, the two premium compact models MINI Countryman and MINI Clubman have also contributed significantly to the US automobile market, inspiring additional customers to choose the unmistakable style of the

Three of the brand’s models are currently confirming their position as the unsurpassed companions in urban traffic, with a series of fresh updates. Targeted design modifications, innovative new customization options, an expanded equipment program and the latest digital services from MINI Connected make the MINI Hardtop, the MINI Hardtop 4 Door and the MINI Convertible even more attractive. Fresh exterior accents include new metallic paint colours, new alloy wheels and a modified LED headlight design. To complement the new headlight design, the rear LED taillights have a brand new design featuring a clear nod to the brand's British heritage. As the new generation of the MINI Countryman (combined fuel consumption: 7.0 – 2.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 159 – 49 g/km) sees its premiere, the tradition-steeped British brand continues its advance into the premium compact segment. The new MINI Countryman is the biggest and most versatile model in the brand’s 57-year history. Having been completely newly developed, it now reflects considerable advancements in the areas of space, functionality, athletic flair and premium characteristics.

The new MINI Countryman achieves its unique standing among direct competitors due to its powerfully expressive design, efficiently shaped bodywork and in particular its unmatched driving agility. The latest version of the all-wheel drive system ALL4 ensures driving fun beyond paved roads, too. What is more, the new MINI Countryman is the first model of the brand to be available with a plug-in hybrid drive. In the form of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 it has a range of up to 40 kilometres running on electrical power alone.

20 centimetres longer than the predecessor model.
The new MINI Countryman is some 20 centimetres longer than its predecessor and approximately 3 centimetres wider. Its wheelbase has been extended by 7.5 centimetres. This growth results in significantly increased space on five fully-fledged seats as well as a definite increase in storage volume and luggage transport versatility. The raised seating position ensures an excellent view and hallmark driving fun. The rear seats can be shifted longitudinally by up to 13 centimetres. The folding rear backrest offers a 40 : 20 : 40 split. It also provides a variable tilt angle so as to be able to either increase seating comfort or gain additional storage space at the rear. The luggage compartment volume is 450 litres and can be extended as required to a total of 1,309 litres. This constitutes a maximum increase of 220 litres as compared to the predecessor model.

Five seats in the interior, two on the Picnic Bench.
An electric tailgate control is available as an option. This makes touchless opening and closing of the tailgate possible in conjunction with Comfort Access. The optional storage package comprises not only a variable load floor, lashing eyes and tension straps but also a stainless steel insert on the loading sill. One unique option is the Picnic Bench – a flexible surface that folds out of the luggage compartment and provides seating for two people.

World premiere in LA, market launch in February 2017.
The new MINI Countryman sees its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 18 November 2016. The market launch in Europe follows in February 2017. From March 2017 onwards the new MINI Countryman will also be taking roads and tracks by storm outside Europe.

MINI Countryman: a successful model with traditional roots.
Even with its model designation, the new edition of the MINI Countryman remains firmly rooted in the tradition of the British brand. A particularly versatile variant of the classic Mini once bore the same name back in the 1960s. Just like the identically constructed Morris Mini Traveller, the Austin Seven Countryman had a highly versatile interior, and the version with wood frame panelling – popularly known as “Woody” – attained cult status that it continues to enjoy to this day. The MINI Countryman likewise offered additional ways of enjoying the brand’s hallmark driving fun when it was launched in 2010. It was the first MINI with four doors, a large tailgate, five seats and optional all-wheel drive and a total of more than 540 000 were sold worldwide.

Powerful proportions, matured character.
The latest generation of the MINI Countryman goes even further in terms of the model’s versatility, agility and premium character. Thanks to its powerful proportions, the new MINI Countryman has a particularly distinctive presence. Its unmistakable aura is defined by an extended ground clearance and raised seating position, further emphasised by the MINI ALL4 exterior look and high roof rails. The new MINI Countryman features design elements that are typical of the brand, including the clear three-way structure of the side view – broken down into roof, glass section and main corpus – as well as the short overhangs, large wheel arches and downward increase in width. Precise contours on the generous surfaces create an attractive play of light and shade that underscores the car's athletic shaping and the vertical orientation of the body. The selection of body finishes includes the variants Island Blue metallic and Chestnut, which are now available for a MINI for the first time. “The new MINI Countryman has essentially grown in size. But it was still possible to retain the typical MINI proportions,” says Julius Schluppkotten, MINI Countryman project manager.

Numerous model-specific design elements such as the striking helmet roof, the upright rear lights, the hexagonal radiator grille and the large headlamps have undergone evolutionary development. The side turn indicator surrounds known as side scuttles exhibit a new arrow-like shape. The roof rails in satin-finished aluminium are combined with silver-coloured side sill tops, thereby lending greater visual emphasis to the car’s height. Horizontal lines dominate at the rear, with the vertically arranged light units providing an appealing contrast.

LED headlamps with peripheral daytime driving light ring for the first time.
The striking profile of the headlamp units deviates from the circular shape that is otherwise typical of the brand. Their distinctive, slightly asymmetrically rounded contour goes together with the radiator grille to produce an unmistakable front view. The parking lights integrated in the air inlets are used for the daytime driving light as standard. In conjunction with the optional LED headlamps, the latter is generated for the first time by a band of light running entirely around each headlamp.

More space for premium ambience.
In the interior of the new MINI Countryman, a clear increase in space, refined premium ambience and a modern display and operating concept reflect the progress achieved through the change of generation. Both driver and front passenger benefit from extended head and shoulder space, while the adjustment range of the seats has also been enlarged. Electrical adjustment of the driver and front passenger seats is optionally available, including a memory function on the driver's side. The narrow body columns and the high seating position make for optimum visibility when manoeuvring. At the rear of the new MINI Countryman there are three fully-fledged seats. The rear door openings have been enlarged as compared to the predecessor model, now enabling a more convenient entrance and exit. In addition to interior width, leg space is now significantly more generous, too.

The extensive storage facilities likewise contribute to the car’s optimised functionality. At both front and rear there are door pockets that hold one-litre beverage bottles. The fully-fledged centre console extending up to the instrument panel has an integrated storage compartment and two cup holders in front of the gear or selector lever. The MINI Controller and the switch for the electrical parking brake are also positioned on the centre console. “The interior of the new MINI Countryman emphasises the car's suitability for families and as a primary vehicle. The sense of quality in the interior has been significantly enhanced, too” says Julius Schluppkotten, MINI Countryman project manager.

Distinctive cockpit design.
With a clear horizontal structure, stretched lines and generously sized surfaces, the distinctively designed cockpit emphasises the solid character of the new MINI Countryman. The profile of the air vents echoes the vertical orientation of the exterior design elements. In addition to the high-quality materials and precise finish, the modern, ergonomically optimised controls contribute to the car’s exclusive ambience. The hallmark central instrument is integrated in the instrument panel and is surrounded by an LED ring that provides a lighting display in response to driving situations by way of control feedback. This forms part of the MINI Excitement Package, which also comprises the LED ambient lighting and a projection of the MINI logo from the exterior mirror on the driver’s side when opening and closing the car.

Market launch with four engines.
The new edition of the MINI Countryman lines up for the start featuring entirely newly developed engine technology. For the market launch there are two petrol and two diesel engines of the latest generation available to choose from, each with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology:

The range also includes the first ever MINI with plug-in hybrid drive:

As an alternative to the standard 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed Steptronic transmission is also offered for the new MINI Cooper Countryman. An 8-speed Steptronic transmission is available for the new MINI Cooper S Countryman and the new MINI Cooper D Countryman. This comes as standard in the MINI Cooper SD Countryman.

The latest generation of engines and transmissions gives the new MINI Countryman a perceptible increase in temperament as well as measurable improvements in terms of driving performance figures. For example, the new MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 with 8-speed Steptronic transmission sprints in 7.2 seconds from zero to 100 km/h – making it 0.9 seconds faster than its predecessor model. In spite of a significant increase not just in sporty flair but also in space, comfort and fittings, virtually all the engine variants demonstrate further optimised fuel efficiency as compared to their respective predecessor. Depending on the engine, the reduction in fuel consumption amounts to as much as 1.4 litres per 100 kilometres. The front-runner in terms of efficiency among those model variants powered solely by a combustion engine is the new MINI Cooper D Countryman, with a fuel consumption of 4.5 to 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres and a CO2 emissions figure of 118 to 113 grams per kilometre (EU test cycle figures, dependent on tyre format selected). The figures for the new MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 with plug-in hybrid drive are even lower.

The new all-wheel drive system ALL4: fast and precise, compact and efficient.
The new MINI Countryman also achieves outstanding efficiency figures in conjunction with the all-wheel drive system ALL4, which is optionally available for all engine variants. The new version of the all-wheel drive system not only reacts quickly and precisely to changing situations, it is also compact and offers a high level of internal efficiency. It consists of a power take-off unit integrated in the front axle differential, a propeller shaft leading to the rear axle and a hang-on clutch that ensures precisely measured transmission of the drive torque to the rear wheels. The system's electronic control is interconnected with the Dynamic Stability Control DSC, so it detects any need to adapt power distribution early on. In this way, ALL4 optimises both traction and stability in adverse weather and road surface conditions, as well as ensuring improved agility when taking bends in dynamic style.

Electric and electrifying: the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4.
In addition to this, the new generation of the MINI Countryman also paves the way to driving fun that is locally emissions-free. The plug-in hybrid drive of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 enables purely electric driving at a top speed of 125 km/h. The spontaneously initiating, long-lasting and virtually noiseless power delivery of the electric motor provides an entirely new, ground-breaking perspective on the hallmark MINI go-kart feeling. No less fascinating is the precisely controlled interaction between the electric motor and the combustion engine of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4. The 65 kW/88 hp electric motor directs its power via a single-speed transmission to the rear axle while a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 100 kW/136 hp connected to a 6-speed Steptronic transmission drives the front wheels. This combination produces an electrified all-wheel drive that ensures an optimum balance between driving fun and efficiency at all times. The fuel consumption of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 as calculated according to the EU test cycle is 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres, while its CO2 emissions figure 49 grams per kilometre.

Driving fun made to measure: Dynamic Damper Control and MINI Driving Modes.
The high-quality suspension of the new MINI Countryman combines the tried-and-tested principle of a single-joint spring strut axle at the front and a multilink rear axle with a design that is optimised for weight and rigidity as well as a model-specific set up. This lays the foundation for precise handling properties and maximum agility. In addition to this there is an electromechanical steering with Servotronic function, powerful brakes and Dynamic Stability Control DSC. 16-inch light alloy wheels come as standard with the new MINI Cooper Countryman and the new MINI Cooper D Countryman, while the other model variants are fitted with 17-inch light alloy wheels. The program of optional extras includes other light alloy wheels in sizes of up to 19 inches.

Dynamic Damper Control is optionally available for the new MINI Countryman. Two program maps can be activated for the electronically controlled dampers via the likewise optional MINI Driving Modes. A rotary switch at the base of the gear or selector lever enables the driver to select a set-up according to one of the three modes MID, SPORT and GREEN. This also influences the accelerator pedal and steering curve, the operating mode of electrically powered comfort features and the engine sound and shift characteristics of the Steptronic transmission, depending on engine and fittings.

MINI Driving Modes in detail.

Premiere: central instrument with touchscreen display.
The standard fittings of the new MINI Countryman include the Radio MINI Boost with four-line display in the central instrument and a Bluetooth hands-free telephone facility. Options include the Radio MINI Visual Boost with 6.5-inch colour display, the Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system, the MINI navigation system and the MINI navigation system Professional. The features of the Wired package including MINI navigation system Professional comprise not just the Touch Controller on the centre console but also an 8.8-inch colour screen in the central instrument with a new graphic design. It is also a touchscreen, allowing functions to be selected and adjusted at the tip of the finger.

Registers driving fun over demanding terrain: the MINI Country Timer.
In conjunction with the Wired package and the MINI navigation system Professional it is possible to use another function developed exclusively for the MINI Countryman that taps into the new model’s all-round talent in a way that is both innovative and entertaining. The MINI Country Timer registers all travel over sloping, uneven, unsurfaced and snow-covered roads and tracks. As soon as the new MINI Countryman moves on demanding terrain, the type and extent of the challenge are detected and shown on the display in the central instrument by means of graphics. “The driver can then read off on the on-board computer how long and how intensively they have driven over this type of surface,” explains Julius Schluppkotten, MINI Countryman project manager. The driving situation is analysed based on data supplied by the control unit of the Dynamic Stability Control function. In this way it is possible to observe how fast and how persistent the new MINI Countryman is surpassing the status of “Street Cruiser” and striving to achieve the “Cliff Champ” category.

Modern driver assistance systems, high-quality options for increased comfort.
Driving fun in the new MINI Countryman is based not just on versatility but also on safety and comfort. The standard and optional driver assistance systems are a key factor here. The standard collision warning with city braking function can be extended to include the Driving Assistant system with camera-based active cruise control, pedestrian warning with initial brake function, high beam assistant and road sign detection. In addition to this, Park Distance Control, rear view camera, Parking Assistant and Head-Up-Display are also optionally available.

The program of optional equipment items further includes a 2-zone automatic air conditioning, a panorama glass roof and an alarm system including red LED status indicator in the fin antenna. A tow hitch with removable ball head is likewise available. Depending on the engine type, the permitted trailer load is between 1 500 and 1 800 kilograms. The broad range of exterior paint finishes, seat upholstery types and interior surfaces enables individualisation of the new MINI Countryman in a way that reflects personal style. With the MINI Yours Interior Styles option available in three variants, the striking interior surface design in the cockpit is highlighted by means of backlit decorative strips. An atmospheric mood is also created by the optional lighting package comprising LED interior lighting and LED ambient lighting; the latter forms part of the optional MINI Excitement Package and offers continuously variable colour adjustment.

New from MINI Connected: personal mobility assistant and MINI Find Mate. 
Connectivity also moves into a new dimension with the launch of the new MINI Countryman. MINI Connected now goes beyond the familiar in-car infotainment functions to become a personal mobility assistant as part of a holistic concept that provides support for individual mobility planning outside the vehicle, too. Based on a flexible platform, the Open Mobility Cloud, MINI Connected integrates the vehicle seamlessly into the MINI driver’s digital life via touchpoints such as the Apple iPhone and Apple Watch.

At the heart of this connectivity in the new MINI Countryman lies MINI Connected, the personal mobility assistant available to MINI drivers with new innovative services as of October 2016. Here, individual mobility planning enables punctual, stress-free arrival at appointments. And mobility doesn’t start in the car: MINI Connected informs the driver of the optimum departure time based on calendar entries and current traffic data. Address data and appointments saved by the driver previously on a smartphone via MINI Connected are automatically transferred to the car and do not have to be entered in the navigation system again. MINI Connected can also save regularly visited places as favourite destinations and it detects frequently covered routes such as the daily run between home and work so as to be able to inform the driver in the event of unexpected traffic delays.

Another new feature in the area of connectivity is MINI Find Mate. This forms part of the Wired package and consists of so-called tags with a wireless tracking function that can be attached to frequently used objects and travel items such as bags, cases, key rings and rucksacks. MINI Find Mate is able to track the location of any such objects connected to the system that the driver wants to be sure not to forget: tracking is done not only on the on-board computer of the MINI Countryman but also on a smartphone. Providing there is a Bluetooth connection with the tag, an acoustic signal can be activated in the car or on the smartphone to help locate the object. If the tag is outside the Bluetooth range, the driver can be guided to the place at which a connection was last detected. 

Munich. In the two years since its launch onto the world’s car markets, the MINI Countryman has developed into a driving force behind the continuing growth of the brand. The transference of hallmark MINI qualities and values into a new vehicle segment has won over new target groups worldwide to the brand’s unmistakable style. Autumn 2012 will see the British carmaker’s first model to offer all-wheel drive benefiting from an extensive round of modifications which will further enhance the allure of its boundless driving fun. Detailed refinements to the car’s design and the selection of materials available for the interior shine the spotlight even more brightly on a premium character none of the MINI Countryman’s rivals can match. The spacious five-door’s optimised ease of use underlines its very modern appreciation of practicality.

The modifications designed for the MINI Countryman will be rolled out across all model variants from November 2012. Open one of the front doors and the newly designed rings encircling the Centre Speedo and four air vents immediately stand out. They will now be presented across the board in the colour shade Carbon Black and also have an inner ring in high-gloss black or – as part of the Chrome Line Interior option – in chrome. Both in standard trim and with options specified, the fresh appeal of the colours and materials adds further lustre to the high-quality character of the MINI Countryman interior.

Newly designed door inserts also help to enhance the car’s premium ambience, comfort and practicality. Remodelled door armrests provide even more comfortable support for the arms, and the controls for the electric windows are now also positioned in the door trim. A full control panel is integrated into the door armrest on the driver’s side. The switches clustered here include the controls for all the windows, the deactivation facility for the rear window controls and adjustment for the exterior mirrors. Moving the window controls away from the centre console also optimises access to the larger storage compartment below it. From autumn 2012 the MINI Countryman will come as standard with a three-seat rear bench, while a pair of individual seats will be available as a no-cost alternative.

As well as changes to the range of interior colours, interior trim elements and Colour Lines, the selection of exterior paint finishes will also be given a refresh in autumn 2012. New additions include the suitably expressive colour shades Brilliant Copper metallic and Blazing Red metallic. Plus, a restructuring of the equipment packages on offer to customers will make it even easier to customise the MINI Countryman to reflect their tastes.

Customers can choose from six engine variants for the MINI Countryman. The three petrol and three diesel units produce outputs stretching from 66 kW/90 hp to 135 kW/184 hp. Beyond these, there is also the ultra-sporty MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, powered by a turbocharged 160 kW/218 hp engine. The ALL4 all-wheel-drive system fitted as standard on this top-class performance variant is also available as an option for the MINI Cooper S Countryman, MINI Cooper SD Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman. All models, with the exception of the MINI One D Countryman, can be ordered with a six-speed automatic gearbox as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual. The impressive efficiency of the engines and gearboxes along with extensive MINIMALISM technology ensure all the MINI Countryman variants achieve an exemplary balance between driving fun and fuel economy. Added to which, from autumn 2012 the MINI One Countryman and MINI Cooper Countryman will meet the stipulations of the EU6 exhaust emissions standard due to come into force in 2014.

Munich. The annually presented GOOD DESIGNTM Award for 2010 went to a full quartet of vehicles and concepts: the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the MINI Countryman, the BMW S 1000 RR and the BMW Concept 6.  This most prestigious of international honours yet again recognised the exceptional standard of BMW Group Design. The prizewinners’ products will be exhibited as part of the annual GOOD DESIGN SHOW to be held in June 2011 at the Chicago Athenaeum.

The world’s oldest and most distinguished design award was called into being in Chicago in 1950 by the architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann Jr., and is presented to this day by the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Studies. For six decades now, this coveted prize is conferred on designers and manufacturers for particularly innovative and visionary products, concepts and ideas that reach beyond the bounds of ordinary product design. Not the least of its aims is to raise public awareness of contemporary design and related sustainability issues.

The selection of award winners is based on the criteria of function and aesthetic as originally laid down by Saarinen and Eames, and is complemented by an environmental stipulation for sustainable design, in keeping with the times. In 2010, an independent jury of design experts and architects made their selection from a record number of submissions from 37 different nations, and picked out more than 500 product and graphic designs to receive the GOOD DESIGN Award.

The design of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan eloquently translates the vehicle’s attributes into an authentic formal language.

Exuding sheer presence and stylish elegance, the Sedan’s design expresses its premium quality and outstanding ride comfort, while its sporty handling is reflected in the dynamic lines of its body and an overall look suggesting athleticism. The superlative aesthetics of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan are further embodied in its perfectly balanced proportions and precisely finished details.

The MINI Countryman is the most expansive interpretation of the MINI design language. As the first MINI to feature four doors and measure more than four metres in length, the MINI Countryman’s typical MINI design leaves no doubt as to its kinship with the brand. Within the product family, the newcomer stands out with its striking exterior that features faintly pentagonal headlights, a new-style “helmet” roof and three-dimensional, vertically aligned rear lights. The interior design likewise accentuates the practicality and robust character of the MINI Countryman.

The highly dynamic design of the BMW S 1000 RR displays its racing bike heritage in a frank and authentic manner. Its flat and sportive front-end design features the hallmark asymmetrical BMW headlight arrangement that reiterates the look of the endurance racers (24-hour events).

The BMW Concept 6 design study persuaded the jury with its highly contrasting composition: while the lower half of the motorcycle reveals its mechanical underpinnings, the sensually tactile surfaces invite some close interaction with the driver. The two levels are fused by an organically designed air flow system.

The unique quality of BMW Group Design has been repeatedly recognised in the past by the GOOD DESIGN Award. In 2008, for example, the award went to the BMW 3 Series Convertible, the BMW 1 Series Coupé and the MINI Cooper S Clubman, as well as four BMW motorcycles. 2007 saw the new BMW X5, the BMW 3 Series Coupé, the new MINI and a further three BMW motorcycles win the GOOD DESIGN Award. And it isn’t the first time the BMW 5 Series Sedan has been crowned: its outstanding design won over the jury of the internationally renowned red dot awards in 2010, secured the coveted iF Product Design Award in 2011, and – with the 2011 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany – captured the country’s most prestigious prize for exceptional product design.
