Munich. The new features set to enhance the BMW model line-up from autumn 2023 centre on the latest advances in terms of digitalisation. The new BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will both be equipped with the upgraded BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9 from November 2023. The BMW Digital Premium offering, with its highly customisable selection of online-based services, is also being introduced in both model series at the same time. Plus, extra digital services will be made available for a large number of current models via Remote Software Upgrade. Meanwhile, an extended range of functions will also add to the appeal of the My BMW App.

When it comes to automated driving systems, the highlight is without doubt the new Highway Assistant, which is also due to become available for models in the BMW 7 Series range from March 2024 following its premiere in the new 5 Series Sedan. Autumn 2023 will also bring additions to the choice of exterior colours and light-alloy wheels for selected models.

More intuitive and easier to use than ever: new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect.

From November 2023, the upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect will be fitted as standard in all model variants of the new BMW X1, the all-electric BMW iX1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, enabling numerous vehicle functions to be operated even more intuitively and easily. The latest incarnation of the display and control/operation system is based on BMW Operating System 9 and is packaged together with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The new BMW iDrive features a redesigned home screen and the QuickSelect rapid-access tech, bringing an improved menu structure that takes its cue from consumer electronics devices. The new home screen displays the navigation system’s map view or other individually configurable graphics in the control display at all times. On the same level, function icons appear in a vertical arrangement on the driver’s side of the display. Drivers can switch between icons with a vertical swipe of the finger. The QuickSelect feature allows the function selected in this way to be activated directly without having to enter a submenu.

BMW Operating System 9 was developed in-house by the BMW Group and is based on an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software stack for the first time. It provides the basis for a broader offering of digital content that serves information and entertainment, shorter function update cycles and improved accessibility to a host of specific online services.

New BMW Digital Premium offering: customised selection of gaming, video & music streaming and other online services.

The new BMW Digital Premium offering will be brought out in Germany in November 2023 alongside the introduction of BMW Operating System 9. It will be available as an option for BMW X1, BMW iX1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer models and can be ordered from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, which has now been expanded with the addition of further third-party apps. This means customers can enjoy in-car use of all the apps available in their country, e.g. for video and music streaming, news or gaming, as part of a package. In addition to this, BMW Digital Premium also includes enhanced navigation functions along with added customisation options thanks to extra My Modes, for instance.

As with all other ConnectedDrive Upgrades, BMW Digital Premium can be obtained from the ConnectedDrive Store either on the website, in the My BMW App or directly in the car. And, from November 2023, it will be even easier for customers to add ConnectedDrive Upgrades, as it will then be possible to not just select them directly from their vehicle, but to pay for them at the same time. In other words, instead of being redirected to the app or internet to complete their order, customers will be able to carry out the entire process, including payment, from the comfort of their car.

This new offering is designed to allow customers to put together a customised selection of digital services from the growing variety on offer – one that is perfectly suited to their personal requirements. BMW Digital Premium is available in Germany, for example, for €9.98 a month or from mid-2024 (provisionally) for an annual fee of €99 (both including VAT). The package also covers data usage for all digital services and the apps available from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, including music and video streaming. Customers can take advantage of a free three-month trial period that will allow them to sample all the BMW Digital Premium services and content.

A new form of in-car gaming unique in the automotive sector is one of the highlights of BMW Digital Premium. BMW is presenting a wide selection of casual games that use a smartphone as the controller in collaboration with the AirConsole gaming platform. The games can be played in either solo or multiplayer mode when the vehicle is stationary as a way of passing the time while e.g. waiting for the high-voltage battery in the BMW iX1 or the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer plug-in hybrid models to recharge. About ten titles will initially be available to play, including racing, sport, quiz and skill games, and the range will continue to grow.

Besides audio streaming, BMW Digital Premium also lets the occupants enjoy a wide variety of video streaming services (powered by Xperi TiVo) on the control display while the car is stationary. This offers customers access to an ever-growing selection of aggregated video content, such as news and live or on-demand streaming of movies and series, for instance, along with country-specific content. Available with BMW Digital Premium in the USA, UK, South Korea, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, the Video App will feature, among other things, the Pluto, Bloomberg Television, Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera and TED portals. In Germany, the package will additionally include the tagesschau news service app as well as the popular streaming service JOYN. Country-specific content will also be offered from the outset in Italy and the USA. The portfolio of video streaming platforms will keep evolving and will be gradually rolled out to other countries too.

Enhanced navigation functions, additional My Modes.

One of the key benefits of BMW Digital Premium is the enhanced functionality of the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. For example, real-time traffic information (RTTI) with colour coding shows how freely traffic is flowing across the entire map area, even if route guidance is not activated. Other functions include 3D visualisation of buildings and surrounding elements in the map view and extended information on parking facilities. The driver is also proactively notified of the current traffic situation and estimated time of arrival when setting out to destinations they drive to regularly. If necessary, the system will even propose an alternative route. Turn-off instructions and lane recommendations are shown in realistic form in both the information display and the optional BMW Head-Up Display.

In Germany and other European countries, BMW Digital Premium offers the additional benefit of allowing drivers to pay parking fees directly from their vehicle in parking zones that support this payment method. And drivers in Germany also have the option of settling fuel bills digitally from their car after refuelling at participating filling stations. In both cases, payment is made using a credit card that is first registered with the partner company Parkopedia via the My BMW App.

In addition, BMW Digital Premium adds Expressive Mode, Relax Mode and Digital Art Mode to the choice of My Modes, opening up still greater scope for customising the driving experience. And it also brings new variants for both the Welcome Light sequence and the graphics visualising the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. 

Current Remote Software Upgrades for enhanced driving pleasure.

The Remote Software Upgrades bring existing digital functions right up to date. At the same time, new features and improvements to quality can also be imported into the car over the air. The latest in-car gaming and video-streaming services for BMW models will be made available in this way for the majority of vehicles with BMW Operating System 8.5 in autumn 2023.

Customers also receive notification of the Remote Software Upgrades in the My BMW App. Another option is for upgrades to be downloaded via the My BMW App and transferred to the vehicle before initiating the installation process there.

Extra functions for the My BMW App.

The My BMW App for smartphones provides customers with a direct link to their car and, depending on the vehicle configuration and country, offers them the benefit of numerous functions designed to make day-to-day mobility even more straightforward. This includes information transferred to the user’s smartphone on their vehicle’s status, servicing requirements, charging status and range, as well as remote access to functions for vehicle locating, locking and unlocking the doors, climate control and monitoring the car’s immediate vicinity. Charging-optimised routes can also be planned via the My BMW App and destination addresses sent from a smartphone to the vehicle’s navigation system. From autumn 2023, it will also be possible to enter mid-journey stops as part of the process.

And from March 2024, customers with compatible Android smartphones will also be able to use the My BMW App to operate the Remote Control Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant functions available with the optional Parking Assistant Professional and BMW Digital Key Plus. The My BMW App will also indicate the status of the alarm system on suitably equipped vehicles and show how it can be fully or partially activated.

New Highway Assistant also coming soon for the BMW 7 Series.

BMW has become the first carmaker to gain approval from Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority for semi-automated driving at speeds up to 130 km/h (81 mph). As a result, the BMW Highway Assistant already available in the USA and Canada is now set to become an extremely innovative component of the optional Driving Assistant Professional package in Germany too. The new function lets the driver take their hands off the steering wheel and put them in a comfortable position while driving. First launched in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, it will also become available to use in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan from spring 2024.

The BMW Highway Assistant can operate on multi-lane roads with structurally separated carriageways, with the function’s availability indicated to the driver in the information display. On suitably designated stretches of road, the driver is able to take their hands off the steering wheel for longer periods and position them comfortably, provided they continue to pay attention to what is happening on the road and are able to take over the steering again at any time. The Active Lane Change Assistant with eye confirmation included as part of the new BMW Highway Assistant adds another layer to the automated driving experience. As soon as the traffic situation permits, it is capable of performing the necessary steering movements for an overtaking manoeuvre, for example, and adjusting the vehicle’s speed as required. Plus, for the first time, the driver is able to initiate a lane change suggested by this system by simply looking in the exterior mirror to confirm it.

Additional exterior colour for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, new 21-inch light-alloy wheels for the 7 Series.

A new shade is already being added to the selection of exterior colours for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, just a short time after its launch. The Fire Red metallic paint finish will be made available for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Sedan (electric power consumption combined: 20.6 – 18.2 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle) from November 2023, as well as for all other model variants of the new business sedan specified with the M Sport package.

A further highly exclusive design of light-alloy wheel will be added to the range of optional extras for the BMW 7 Series from November 2023. At the same time, 21-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in multi-spoke design will also be available for all model variants of the luxury sedan. They have a bi-colour finish and are fitted with mixed-size tyres.

All of the stated model variants, equipment features, technical data and fuel/electric power consumption and emissions figures relate to the offering in the German market.

Munich. New model variants and innovations in the areas of electrification and digitalisation are set to further increase the appeal and diversity of the BMW product range from summer 2023. At the pinnacle of the model portfolio, the arrival of a third variant of the all-electric BMW i7 expands the brand’s offering in the luxury segment. At the same time, the Multi-Contract Plug & Charge and MAX RANGE functions will now be available for all BMW i7 and BMW iX model variants, making electric mobility even more convenient. And from August 2023, customers will have the choice of a second, extremely powerful six-cylinder in-line diesel engine for the new BMW X5 and BMW X6.

The highlight as far as digitalisation is concerned is the introduction of the upgraded BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 8.5 for a large number of current models. The capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be enhanced once again for these models in summer 2023. The new exterior colours and upholstery variants for several of the current models will offer additional scope for customisation. Meanwhile, the M Sport package Pro will be added to the choice of optional extras for the BMW X1 and BMW iX1.

BMW i7 eDrive50: an extra boost for electric mobility in the luxury segment.

It has taken just a few months for the all-electric BMW i7 to establish itself as the epitome of progressive drive technology in the luxury segment worldwide. From July 2023, the new BMW i7 eDrive50 (electric power consumption combined: 20.3 – 19.1 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle) will offer customers another way to enjoy supreme long-distance comfort combined with trailblazing innovations and emission-free driving pleasure. The third model variant in the BMW i7 line-up comes with the latest BMW eDrive technology in the form of a highly integrated electric drive unit delivering maximum output of 335 kW/455 hp and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).

This enables the new BMW i7 eDrive50 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 205 km/h (127 mph). Thanks to its highly efficient electric motor and the outstanding energy density of its high-voltage battery, the new BMW i7 eDrive50 achieves a WLTP-calculated range of 575 – 611 kilometres (357 – 380 miles).

Multi-Contract Plug & Charge and MAX RANGE: new functions for making electric mobility even more convenient.

To coincide with the ongoing expansion of the all-electric model line-up, new functions are being made available for all BMW i7 and BMW iX variants in summer 2023 that will make enjoying locally emission-free driving pleasure even easier and more convenient. The Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function will be added to the BMW Charging portfolio, enabling automatic vehicle authentication at public charging points. The exchange of data between vehicle and charging point does away with the need for a charging card or app. As the amount of electricity fed into the high-voltage battery is also billed automatically, Plug & Charge makes recharging even more straightforward than refuelling conventionally powered vehicles. The BMW Group is the first carmaker in the world to incorporate multi-contract functionality into this new feature. Customers are able to store their individual vehicle electricity contracts from multiple suppliers in digital form in their car, allowing them to use the charging points of these operators with the greatest of ease. The new Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function can be made available via Remote Software Upgrade for all BMW i7 models manufactured since July 2022 and all BMW iX models built since March 2023.

The MAX RANGE function for the electric drive system in the BMW i7 and BMW iX is also new and gives drivers greater flexibility when looking for a public charging station. It is operational in the My Mode Efficient and can be used to increase range by up to 25 per cent by both limiting drive power and top speed and scaling back comfort functions. The MAX RANGE function was mainly devised for situations where drivers are unable to recharge mid-journey as originally planned because, for example, the charging station they were heading for is out of service. Activating the MAX RANGE function extends the range by a comfortable margin for the journey to an alternative charging point for the high-voltage battery. This is achieved by, among other things, limiting the vehicle’s top speed to 90 km/h (56 mph) at the same time as disabling features such as the climate control, seat heating and steering wheel heating. The new MAX RANGE function can be made available via Remote Software Upgrade for all BMW i7 models manufactured since July 2022 and all BMW iX models built since March 2023.

The high-voltage battery in the BMW iX can now also be charged more efficiently thanks to the same upgraded charging software already used in the BMW i7. Here, careful control of the charging rate results in shorter charging times. The new charging software can also be imported into all BMW iX models manufactured since March 2023 via Remote Software Upgrade.

In addition to this, the various digital services offered for charging the high-voltage battery will be enhanced for all electrified BMW models in summer 2023. When searching for charging points in the navigation system, for instance, the entries for several stations within a single charging park will now be combined. In the future, the charging history will also show the total costs for a month and allow charging operations to be filtered by location.

The BMW Maps navigation system will also offer improved functions for calculating a charging-optimised route in the all-electric BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4 and BMW iX1 models. The driver’s preferred minimum charge level for when the vehicle reaches mid-journey stops and the final destination can now be adjusted in increments of five per cent and incorporated into the route planning. In the future, the system will also be able to give preference to charging stations operated by selected providers and exclude others from the route planning at the customer’s request. In addition, the user is given even more detailed information on their selected charging stations, including availability at that moment in time, the connector types supported and payment options, plus the presence of sanitary facilities, food outlets or playgrounds in their vicinity. The new charging-optimised route planning functions can also be retrofitted via Remote Software Upgrade.

Highly efficient and big on torque: the new six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with 48V mild hybrid technology for the BMW X5 and BMW X6.

A second six-cylinder in-line diesel engine will be added to the line-up of drive systems for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 in August 2023. The unit in the new BMW X5 xDrive40d (fuel consumption, combined: 8.4 – 7.3 litres/100 km [33.6 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 221 – 190 g/km in the WLTP cycle) and new BMW X6 xDrive40d (fuel consumption, combined: 8.2 – 7.3 litres/100 km [34.5 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 214 – 191 g/km in the WLTP cycle) is the most powerful diesel variant in the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines.

New steel pistons enable a higher combustion pressure, and the effectiveness of the oil separation process has also been enhanced. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprises a two-stage turbocharging system and a common-rail direct injection system with new solenoid valve injectors. These send the fuel into the combustion chambers with up to 12 injections per power stroke and maximum pressure of 2,500 bar. 48V mild hybrid technology in the form of a crankshaft-driven starter generator integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission gives the 3.0-litre engine even sharper power delivery and increases its efficiency.

The drive system generates maximum output of 259 kW/352 hp and peak torque of 720 Nm (531 lb-ft). The impressive pulling power of the new six-cylinder in-line diesel engine, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and the intelligent all-wheel-drive system join forces to produce potent sprinting ability. The new BMW X5 xDrive40d and new BMW X6 xDrive40d both accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect for further BMW models.

The upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect is being rolled out with BMW Operating System 8.5 across additional models*. The latest generation of BMW iDrive brings a newly designed home screen and QuickSelect functionality to make selecting and operating numerous functions and digital services even more intuitive and comfortable. This also brings an improved menu structure that takes its cues from consumer electronics devices plus a range of new digital services and apps.

By showing the right information in the right place, the new BMW iDrive helps to deliver a focused, assured driving experience. BMW iDrive with QuickSelect also teams up with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and so focuses squarely on operation using the touchscreen and natural language.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with additional skills.

In all BMW models that are equipped with BMW Operating System 8.5 or can be upgraded with the system*, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will gain additional skills from summer 2023. Depending on the vehicle specification and the driving situation, the digital companion will be able to suggest deactivating the speed limiting function, switching to Sport mode or activating the Assisted Driving Modes. Naturally formulated spoken instructions can also be used to adjust the seat position. In fully electric models with the relevant specification, the MAX RANGE function can be activated and the BMW IconicSounds Electric controlled with just a single spoken command.

Added to which, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will now be able to proactively explain previously unused functions to the driver, including storing favourite radio stations and using spoken commands to adjust the air conditioning or the brightness of the BMW Curved Display. The graphic depicting the digital companion during exchanges with the car’s occupants now gains ten additional transformation symbols.

M Sport package Pro now also available for the new BMW X1 and new BMW iX1.

From July 2023, the range of optional equipment available for the new BMW X1 and new BMW iX1 will now include a model-specific M Sport package Pro. This option will be offered as an extension of the M Sport package and helps to shine an even brighter spotlight on the dynamic character of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle.

This new option includes extended M High-gloss Shadowline trim, the M rear spoiler, the M Sport braking system with red or – if desired – dark blue callipers, plus M seat belts. Specifying the optional Adaptive LED Headlights also brings M lights Shadowline.

New for the BMW X1, BMW iX1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: seat surfaces in Veganza perforated.

New upholstery variants available from July 2023 will underscore the premium character inside the new BMW X1, new BMW iX1 and new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Seat surfaces in Veganza perforated trim can be ordered as an option for these models.

This vegan surface material with leather-like properties can be specified in Black, Mocha or Oyster. The M Alcantara/Veganza combination in Black with blue contrast stitching is also available for cars with the M Sport package.

New exterior colours for the BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 2 Series Coupé and BMW M2.

The introduction of new exterior colours for current BMW models gives customers additional scope for individualising the exterior of their car. The BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic will be available for the BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 2 Series Coupé and high-performance BMW M2 (fuel consumption, combined: 9.8 – 9.6 litres/100 km [28.8 – 29.4 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 222 – 218 g/km in the WLTP cycle) from July 2023.

Euro NCAP safety rating: The new BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer receive top 5-star rating.

+++European Consumer Protection Institute awards both premium compact models the top rating. +++New centre airbag reduces the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact. +++New generation of front collision warning can also protect pedestrians and cyclists when making turns.+++

Munich. The independent safety experts at the European consumer protection institute Euro NCAP awarded both the BMW X1 Sports Activity Vehicle and the modern all-rounder in the premium compact segment, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the highest rating of five stars. In the demanding test procedure, both vehicles impressed with outstanding occupant protection in collisions of various types, effective protection for pedestrians and cyclists, and effective accident avoidance systems.

The extensive standard equipment featuring safety-relevant driver assistance systems decisively contributed to the 5-star rating. Above all, the latest generation of front collision warning with braking function provides an additional plus in safety in urban traffic. It can now also detect pedestrians and cyclists approaching parallel to the lane from behind or in front when turning right, effectively helping to avoid a collision with weaker road users. In addition, the new system warns of oncoming traffic when turning left. All of the driver assistance systems used in the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are among the best on the market and impressed the Euro NCAP safety experts with their range of functions and reliable level of response.

The new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer convinced the experts with their innovative systems in the area of passive safety. Both models feature a centre airbag between the driver and front passenger seats as standard. This system, used for the first time in BMW models in the compact segment, was rated to be extremely effective in the test. It is the latest component of the BMW integrated safety concept, which is being advanced constantly and which, in addition to highly resilient support structures and precisely designed deformation paths, also includes a model-specific combination of precisely coordinated restraint systems.

In various collision tests, this integrated safety concept proved to guarantee a high level of protection against injury at all times in both models, regardless of the size and seating position of the occupants.  In both the front and rear seats, the headrests and seats of the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer effectively protect against cervical injuries that can be triggered by a rear-end collision, according to Euro NCAP. In addition, the test experts highlighted the standard equipment featured by both models with the intelligent emergency call and an emergency braking system for avoiding secondary collisions.

To reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians and cyclists, the new BMW X1 and new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer feature active engine compartment lids. In the event of an impact, the engine compartment lids are raised by means of pyrotechnic actuators to create additional deformation space between them and the hard components underneath. The system proved to be reliable and effective at different speeds in the Euro NCAP safety test.

The ratings of the Euro NCAP testing institute are a benchmark for accident safety recognised Europe-wide and the safety level is being raised constantly. Only new vehicles that offer excellent impact protection and are also well equipped with comprehensive and practical technology for accident avoidance receive the highest rating of 5 stars.

All data on mileage, fuel and electricity consumption, CO₂ emissions and electric range are provisional values.

Fuel consumption, CO₂ emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures are already calculated on the basis of the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related levies that are (also) based on CO₂ emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Munich. Just a few weeks after the market launch of the new BMW X1, the fully electric model variant of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) will also be released onto the road for the first time in November 2022. Together with the BMW iX1 xDrive30 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.1 - 16.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ), two plug-in hybrid models and two further variants of the new BMW X1 with conventional combustion engine drive are also being launched.

With additional engines and new optional extras, BMW is also increasing the efficiency and attractiveness of numerous other model series for autumn 2022. These include new entry-level motors and engines for the all-electric BMW i4 and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, an innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as innovations in the field of digitalisation for optimising driving pleasure, comfort and safety.

BMW X1 and BMW iX1: Consistent electrification in new diversity.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the brand's first all-wheel drive electric vehicle in the premium compact segment. With this model, the BMW Group is consistently continuing its model offensive in the field of purely electric mobility and making locally emission-free driving pleasure attractive to broad target groups. Two highly integrated e-drive units on the front and rear axles generate a combined output of 230 kW/313 hp, including a temporary boost. The torque generated by the whole system is 494 Nm. The new BMW iX1 xDrive30 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Its range, determined in the WLTP test cycle, is between 417 and 440 kilometres.

The consistent electrification of the drive portfolio also includes the two plug-in hybrid models BMW X1 xDrive30e (fuel consumption combined: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.9 - 14.7 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 23 - 16 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: and BMW X1 xDrive25e (combined fuel consumption: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.8 - 14.6 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 22 - 15 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: -) as well as two new combustion engine variants with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The plug-in hybrid systems each consist of a highly integrated e-drive unit acting on the rear wheels and a 3-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels via the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch. Fifth-generation lithium-ion high-voltage batteries arranged flat in the vehicle floor with a usable energy content of 14.2 kWh and optimised efficiency through intelligent energy management and adaptive recuperation enable an electric range of 76 to 88 kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive30e and 77 to 92 kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive25e.

The drive system of the new BMW X1 xDrive30e generates an output of up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly delivered by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 130 kW/177 hp). This means that the more powerful of the two plug-in hybrid models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. With a maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric drive with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new BMW X1 xDrive25e takes the car from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Electrification also gives the combustion engines of the new BMW X1 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 - 5.9 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 149 - 133 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) and the new BMW X1 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 - 4.8 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 - 127 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) a higher level of efficiency and a particularly sporty power delivery. Its 48-volt mild hybrid technology consists of an electric motor integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch, which acts as a starter generator and can both relieve and support the combustion engine. In the BMW X1 sDrive20i it is combined with a 3-cylinder petrol engine. This results in a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 115 kW/156 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 280 Nm (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 240 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), taking the car from a standstill to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. A 4-cylinder diesel engine and mild hybrid technology give the BMW X1 xDrive20d a maximum output of 120 kW/163 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 360 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), enabling it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds.

BMW i4 eDrive35: New entry-level engine for the all-electric Gran Coupé.

The BMW i4 model family will be joined by another member in November 2022 as well. The BMW i4 eDrive35 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.7 - 15.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ) is the new entry-level model in the all-electric Gran Coupé range in the premium mid-size segment. The third model variant also features fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. A highly integrated drive unit with 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm powers the rear axle and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds.

The range of the BMW i4 eDrive35 in the statutory WLTP cycle is up to 483 kilometres. Its high-quality standard equipment includes, among other things, the latest-generation BMW iDrive developed on the basis of BMW Operating System 8, including BMW Curved Display and BMW Live Cockpit Plus including BMW Maps navigation system.

BMW 216i Active Tourer: New entry-level engine for the compact all-rounder.

A new entry-level engine will also enrich the model range of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in autumn 2022. The new BMW 216i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 – 6.2 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 152 - 140 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) offers a particularly economical way to experience the driving pleasure and versatility of the compact all-rounder. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp and a maximum torque of 230 Nm. The engine's power is delivered to the front wheels via a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard. The new BMW 216i Active Tourer accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

Innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, new gear selector for the BMW iX3.

In order to facilitate individualising the car, BMW bundles attractive optional extras in model-specific packages. From November 2022, an innovation package will be available for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the contents of which will enhance driving pleasure as well as comfort and safety.

The new Innovation Package includes Comfort Access including Digital Key and Welcome, the interior and exterior mirror package as well as automatic air conditioning with 2-zone control and electric seat adjustment including memory function on the driver's side. Adaptive LED headlights and high beam assistant ensue optimised illumination of the road. The BMW Head-Up Display and telephony with wireless charging are also included in the Innovation Package.

There is a substantial design modification regarding the interior of the BMW iX3 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.9 - 18.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ). The all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle of the premium mid-size class will be equipped with a redesigned gear selector on the centre console from January 2023. This means that a control element in the new, reduced interior design from BMW is also available in this model selecting gears.

BMW M Laptimer now as a vehicle app - time measurement also for BMW models with BMW Operating System 7.

Performance becomes measurable thanks to the BMW M Laptimer. The function is now available in Europe, the USA and Canada as a vehicle app in many current BMW models and BMW M automobiles. With the BMW M Laptimer, lap times can be recorded while driving on the race track. The total duration and track length of the ride, the number of laps, the time for the fastest lap and the highest speed achieved are displayed. The system recognises the start and finish line of a lap using recurring GPS coordinates. The length of a measured lap can be between one and 37 kilometres.

The BMW M Laptimer is available as a vehicle app in all models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and the Connected Package Professional option. In the models of the BMW M3/BMW M4 series, the M Laptimer App is part of the optional M Drive Professional equipment. In these models, once the time measurement has been activated, there is a widget in the instrument cluster that shows the current and final lap time. In addition, the BMW Head-Up Display shows both the current lap time and the difference to the fastest lap so far during the course of a recording.

Innovations regarding the Digital Key and Digital Key Plus.

The optional BMW Digital Key and Digital Key Plus can now be shared across platforms between users of iOS and Android devices, including via e-mail or messenger service, for example. Until now, only the Apple iPhone offered the Digital Key Plus, which uses security-optimised ultra-wideband radio technology (UWB) to automatically unlock the BMW iX and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer when you approach them and lock them when you move away. You can simply keep the device in your pocket. From December 2022, this convenient access method will also be possible with Android devices that are equipped with a corresponding UWB chip and are enabled for Digital Key Plus (initially Google Pixel Pro).

The Digital Key Plus also enables additional functions via the My BMW app using UWB technology near vehicles with production dates from November 2022 (an Apple iPhone with iOS 16 operating system is required). The additional functions are displayed in the My BMW app as soon as you approach the vehicle to within about six 6 metres. These include the comfort open/close functions, known from the long press on open/close with the physical vehicle key, as well as the level control for vehicles with air suspension. In the BMW 7 Series, the optional automatic doors can also be operated via the My BMW app within the UWB range. For vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 8 and Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Control Parking can also be controlled via the My BMW app.

Continuous tyre pressure monitoring with notification in the My BMW app, new Digital Art Mode in the BMW 7 Series, BMW iX, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1.

The digital tyre diagnosis system, which comes as standard in many current BMW models, will include an additional function from November 2022. The tyre pressure will be continuously monitored in the future. For example, if a loss of pressure is registered in a parked vehicle, the customer receives a notification via the My BMW app. Continuous tyre pressure monitoring is available in the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, BMW 7 Series and BMW X7.

In the BMW 7 Series, the BMW iX, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW X1, the driving experience, which can be customised with the help of My Modes, will also be enriched with a unique artistic experience from November 2022. The new Digital Art Mode will be available for the first time. The exclusive digital work "Quantum Garden" by Chinese multimedia artist Cao Fei is shown on the vehicle displays.

New functions for the My BMW app.

With the latest update, the range of functions of the My BMW app has been expanded to provide additional usage options. The app now includes a first-mile function that shows customers the route to their vehicle on their smartphone. In future, they will also be able to search for contacts stored on their smartphone in the My BMW app, call up ratings and pictures for so-called points of interest and pay parking fees at a variety of locations. From autumn 2022, the My BMW app will provide users of models with electrified drive systems with specific information in the event of charging irregularities. In future, all functions specially designed for electric mobility can be found more easily via an entry point in the vehicle menu area. 

The new "My Trips" function provides the customer with trip data in the My BMW app. For example, information on the distance travelled, average speed, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions are listed. Drivers of models with electrified drive systems are also informed about the proportion of the route they have driven electrically.

The user interface for the vehicle menu area has also been updated. If the vehicle's air conditioning is activated using the My BMW app, this can be seen on the picture of the vehicle. Information about customer support can be found in the Profile menu area under "Contact us".

Munich. Raised efficiency, an even higher level of individuality and further digitalisation will make the numerous current BMW brand models even more attractive as of summer 2022. The model range of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is being expanded by two plug-in hybrid variants and a diesel model with intelligent all-wheel BMW xDrive. Two additional drive variants each will be offered for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé from July 2022. Newly designed equipment packages make it easier to select options for enhancing driving pleasure and comfort in numerous model series.

The BMW Curved Display will be added to the standard equipment of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the new BMW M3 Sedan in summer 2022. This means that the latest generation of the BMW iDrive multi-sensory vehicle experience based on the BMW Operating System 8 has also found its way into both model series. Further progress in the field of digitalisation is provided by additional functions for the My BMW App, the BMW Maps navigation system and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: Premiere for two plug-in hybrid models and a new diesel engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has already been available with a wide range of drives since it was first launched on the market equipped combustion engines from the current BMW Group Efficient Dynamics generation and the latest version of 48-volt mild hybrid technology. In future, two plug-in hybrid variants of the compact all-rounder will deliver additional efficiency and driving pleasure. The hybrid systems of both models combine a 3-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology which drives the front wheels with an electric motor acting on the rear wheels. Like the high-voltage battery located deep in the vehicle floor, this electric motor originates from the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The resulting hybrid-specific all-wheel drive delivers a very high level of sportiness, driving stability and traction in all driving situations.

The drive of the new BMW 230e xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.9 – 14.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 18 - 14 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) generates an output of up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 130 kW/177 hp). This means that the more powerful of the two plug-in hybrid models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. Its electric range is 82 to 93 kilometres according to WLTP.

With a maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric drive with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.8 – 14.2 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 18 - 14 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. With values between 83 and 92 kilometres according to WLTP, it also has a significantly increased electric range compared to the previous model generation. In addition, the maximum charging capacity has been doubled when using a wallbox or public charging station. It is now 7.4 kWh. This allows the high-voltage batteries of the two plug-in hybrid models to be charged from zero to 100 percent of their capacity within 2.5 hours.

The third new addition to the drive portfolio is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The new BMW 223d xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 5.1 – 4.6 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 - 121 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ), delivers a maximum output of 155 kW/211 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 145 kW/197 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) as well as a maximum torque of 400 Nm (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 400 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm). The electric motor of the mild hybrid system is integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and functions as a crankshaft starter generator. The power of the drive system is transmitted to the road via BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. The BMW 223d xDrive Active Tourer takes 7.3 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h.

BMW 2 Series Coupé: Two new drive variants, BMW Curved Display and shifter paddles on the steering wheel now standard.

A new entry-level engine and another BMW Performance automobile from BMW M GmbH enrich the model range for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. A particularly economical way to experience the distinct driving pleasure of the compact two-door is offered by the new BMW 218 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.5 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 146 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ), which is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine generating a peak output of 115 kW/156 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The new BMW 218i Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

The second new model ranges at the highest level of the performance spectrum. The BMW M240i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.5 – 7.8 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 192 - 177 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) embodies the purist form of driving dynamics typical of the brand in a model of the premium compact segment. A 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine is now also combined with classic rear-wheel drive in this model series. An 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and an M Sport differential in the final drive are also involved in transferring power to the road. This means that the new BMW M240i Coupé reaches the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in 4.7 seconds.

For spontaneous manual intervention in gear selection, the new BMW M automobile features shift paddles on the steering wheel. From summer 2022, these paddles will also be part of the equipment package of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which is standard on all 4-cylinder models of the BMW 2 Series Coupé. The range's powertrain portfolio now includes three 4-cylinder petrol engines and one 4-cylinder diesel engine, as well as the 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder power unit, which now delivers fascinating performance in conjunction with both all-wheel and rear-wheel drive.

Hallmark BMW driver orientation in the cockpit of the BMW 2 Series Coupé has also been rethought. All model variants of the two-door model will be equipped with a BMW Curved Display as standard from July 2022. It consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a Control Display with touch function and a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. This provides a fully digital and high-resolution display network behind a common glass surface curved towards the driver. With the BMW Curved Display and the enhanced capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the user experience in the BMW 2 Series Coupé is now also consistently oriented towards touch and voice control.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé: Sales launch for two more models with inline 6-cylinder engine.

A new BMW M automobile with traditional performance characteristics will also join the model range in the BMW 4 Series in summer 2022. The BMW M440i Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.6 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 185 - 172 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) will thrill drivers with its combination of an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 275 kW/374 hp and mild hybrid technology, an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, classic rear-wheel drive and an M Sport differential. The extremely sporty version of the four-door coupé in the premium mid-size class sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.

In addition, an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine will also be available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé in future. The 3.0 litre drive unit for the new BMW 430d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.5 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 158 - 145 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) generates a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. In this model, too, 48-volt mild hybrid technology enhances both efficiency and spontaneous power delivery. The impressive pulling power of the drive, the 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel drive together enable acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

For all BMW M automobiles of the BMW 4 Series as well as for the all-electric BMW i4 M50 (power consumption combined: 22.5 kWh– 18.0 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ), an M Sport Package Pro is available from July 2022, including an extended M High Gloss Shadow Line, M Shadow Line lights, an M sports brake system with red brake callipers and M seat belts. In addition, the range of paint finishes for the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible is supplemented by the Skyscraper Grey metallic variant.

Specific customisation thanks to new equipment packages.

High-quality options from the range of special equipment available ex works for numerous model series will be combined in new, model-specific configured packages for summer 2022. They enable customers to individualise their cars in specific focus areas. For example, a Travel Package and a Comfort Package are available for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

An Innovation Package and a Comfort Package are offered for the BMW 2 Series Coupé. The choice will be particularly varied for the BMW 1 Series and for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, which will be rolling off the production line from July 2022 with a Premium Package, a Travel Package, an Innovation Package, a Comfort Package and a Comfort Package Professional, as well as an M Sport Pro model.

New options for BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, BMW X5 and BMW X6, BMW Z4 with extended standard equipment.

An M Sport Package Pro will also be available in future for the BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring and BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo. It is offered as a supplement to the respective model-specific M sports package and includes paddle shifters on the steering wheel for the entry-level models of the BMW 5 Series and an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission for all other models, as well as an extended M high-gloss Shadow Line, an M sports brake system with red brake callipers and M seat belts. The BMW 5 Series models also receive the M Shadow Line lights, while the BMW 5 Series Sedan also features a black M rear spoiler. New to the range of paint finishes is the Skyscraper Grey metallic variant, while the new Arctic Race Blue metallic paint finish is also available for the BMW 5 Series.

The models in the BMW X5 and BMW X6 series will feature Sensafin decor-quilted interior trim as standard from summer 2022. The newly developed surfaces are available in five colour variants and have leather-like properties as well as a further refined look and feel.

Extended standard equipment makes the BMW Z4 even more appealing. The Roadster now already features the BMW Live Cockpit Professional as standard. It includes a fully digital instrument cluster and a Control Display with a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches each, as well as the Connected Package Professional.

BMW Curved Display and Innovation Package for the BMW M3 Sedan, M Graphics for the BMW M4 Coupé.

BMW Operating System 8 and the latest generation of BMW iDrive, including BMW Curved Display, will also be standard equipment for BMW M3 Sedan models from July 2022. The four-door high-performance sports car can also be optionally equipped with an Innovation Package, a Wireless Charging Tray for suitable smartphones, a Personal eSim, an instrument panel in Sensatec finish and M interior trims in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite. The BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Pure Grey metallic is also available as a new colour.

A further way of highlighting the performance character of the BMW M4 Coupé models even more intensively is provided by the new M graphics for the engine compartment and luggage compartment lides. The contour lines in high-gloss black and the BMW M GmbH brand logo on the engine compartment give the exterior of the vehicles a particularly expressive touch.

My BMW App, BMW Maps navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended functions.

Driving pleasure and comfort are enhanced in all models already equipped with BMW Operating System 8 thanks to new digital services. As of summer 2022, both the BMW Maps navigation system and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will feature new functions and enhanced capabilities. In addition to new map displays, the navigation system offers proactive traffic information on frequently used routes even when the route guidance is not activated. Calculating a charging-optimised route for all-electric models is now around four times faster than before. The driver receives more detailed information about the route and the planned charging stops, and can also specify the desired state of charge when reaching the destination. In order to make charging the high-voltage battery more convenient at public charging stations, the functions of the BMW Charging App will also be integrated into the My BMW App in future. In addition to logging the vehicle in at the charging station, this also allows the charging cable to be unlocked via the My BMW app, among other things.

In future,a further developed charging software for purely electrically driven models will enable the storage of charging profiles for frequently used power sources. In order to increase efficiency when charging, your high-voltage battery can be preheated to an optimal temperature for fast charging with direct current while still on the road. Up to now, this preconditioning has been carried out automatically if the route planned by the navigation system includes a stopover at a fast-charging station. In future, preheating of the battery can be activated manually by the driver even when the navigation system has not been programmed with a route.

The registration process for the ConnectedDrive Account will be simplified from July 2022. In conjunction with BMW Operating System 8, it is no longer necessary to manually enter the 17-digit vehicle identification number to register a new vehicle. In the cockpit of BMW M cars, the BMW Operating System 8 will feature an M specific user interface in future. In the BMW iX and the BMW i4, the additional Augmented View display, which can be used with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, is also shown in the Information Display.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, in conjunction with the BMW Operating System 8, will feature even more advanced capabilities as of summer 2022. The digital companion and vehicle expert can proactively make contextual suggestions to the driver on how to use functions. In future, these will also relate to Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Parking Assistant, the eDrive Zone service and the option to test additional functions from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. In addition, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant provides the driver with explanations of numerous other functions of his vehicle that he has not used so far.

Parallel to the launch of the new BMW 8 Series, the new BMW M8 model family, the BMW iX M60 (power consumption combined:  24.5 – 21.9 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and the special edition BMW X2 Goldplay, BMW is increasing the appeal of numerous other models with additional drive variants and equipment features as of spring 2022. From March 2022, new model variants will expand the range for the BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. The Parking Assistant Professional, presented for the first time, is optionally available for all model variants of the BMW iX and allows the vehicle to be manoeuvred via smartphone. The My BMW app also features additional functions that make charging the high-voltage battery in the purely electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models even more convenient.

New driver assistance systems, which are optionally available in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as well as the BMW X3 and BMW X4 models, provide added comfort. In addition, the range of body finishes, upholstery variants and light-alloy wheels for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW i4, the BMW iX and the BMW M5 (fuel consumption combined: 11.3 – 11.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 259 – 253 g/km according to WLTP) receives further variants. To mark the 50th anniversary of BMW M GmbH, particularly striking "BMW Motorsport" emblems are optionally available for BMW M automobiles in conjunction with an M sports package.

Additional engine variant for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Sheer driving pleasure in the BMW 2 Series Coupé can be experienced in a further variant from March 2022. The fourth engine option for the dynamic two-door model is a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 180 kW/245 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The new drive unit will feature in the BMW 230i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.2 – 6.5 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 163 – 149 g/km according to WLTP) with classic rear-wheel drive. Power delivery and emissions behaviour have been optimised by an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and an advanced turbocharging system for the BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

The new engine is combined with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission as standard. The range of equipment and functions includes gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and Launch Control, which enables the new BMW 230i Coupé to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Among other things, an M sports differential in the final drive is available as an option for the new model variant.

New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer now also with BMW xDrive, additional body finishes and optimised Driving Assistant Plus.

Versatile functionality, hallmark driving pleasure and distinctive dynamic design characterise the second generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, which will also be available with intelligent all-wheel drive from March 2022. The new BMW 223i xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.5 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 160 –  148 g/km according to WLTP) is the fifth model variant of the modern all-rounder in the premium compact segment. Its BMW xDrive system transfers the power of a 4-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology to all four wheels as required. The drive of the new BMW 223i xDrive Active Tourer delivers 160 kW/218 hp, generated jointly by its combustion engine with up to 150 kW/204 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp. The electric auxiliary drive contributes to a particularly spontaneous accelerating response. The new model variant sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The new Piedmont Red metallic body finish will also be available from March 2022 for the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. In addition, the range of functions of the optionally available Driving Assistant Plus has been expanded to include Steering and Lane Guidance Assist. At speeds of up to 180 km/h, the system uses corrective steering interventions to help the driver keep the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in the centre of the lane. The steering assistance also ensures that a suitable distance to lane markings and vehicles on the adjacent lane is maintained when driving through narrow spaces, for example at motorway construction sites. In addition, Driving Assistant Plus includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, including automatic Speed Limit Assist. This is based on the Speed Limit Info system with anticipatory display of speed limits and overtaking bans.

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function now also available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4.

The range of optionally available driver assistance systems will also be extended for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 models as of spring 2022. Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will be available for the Sports Activity Vehicle and the Sports Activity Coupé in the premium mid-size class from April 2022.

Unlike the already standard cruise control with braking function, it not only keeps the desired speed between 30 and 160 km/h constant, but also the distance to vehicles ahead, which can be selected by the driver in four stages. Distance control is carried out by means of a radar sensor integrated into the front bumper and, if necessary, makes the vehicle decelerate to a standstill. The range of functions also includes automatic restarting after short intermediate stops of up to three seconds. In addition, the system offers the driver the option of adopting speed limits registered by the Systems Speed Limit Info traffic sign recognition system as the new desired speed at the touch of a button.

New BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé with further all-wheel-drive variant.

The model range for the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé will include a further variant as of spring 2022. The BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.9 – 7.1 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 180 – 162 g/km according to WLTP) is the third model in the range in which intelligent all-wheel drive delivers particularly superior power transmission. The BMW xDrive system distributes the power generated by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with an output of 180 kW/245 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm to all four wheels as required.

The standard equipment of the new BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupé also includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This combination of engine, transmission and all-wheel drive enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

New equipment options for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and the BMW i4.

In addition to the new drive variant, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé will also offer numerous additional options for customising the exterior and interior from March 2022. These are also available for the all-electric BMW i4 and include new body finishes and leather trims as well as an M Carbon exterior package.

The BMW Individual special paint finishes Brilliant White metallic and Frozen Dark Grey metallic are new to the range of body colours. In addition, the BMW Individual body finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic are also available for the respective BMW M automobiles and in conjunction with the M Sport model. The BMW i4 M50 (power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) for which the M Carbon exterior package was exclusively reserved so far, will also be available for all other model variants of the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé from March 2022, also in conjunction with the M Sport model. It includes surrounds for the air curtains in the front apron, exterior mirror caps, a rear spoiler and diffuser insert trims made of the equally light and striking carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic.

In the interior of the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, customers can select particularly high-quality features with the extended BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in the colour variants Black, Ivory White, Tartufo, Fjord Blue/Black and Fiona Red/Black. For an even more exclusive ambience, the BMW Individual full leather Merino interior, available in the same colours, also includes leather upholstery on the instrument panel. In addition, individual interior design preferences can also be fulfilled from March 2022 onwards thanks to special upholstery from the BMW Individual programme.

Parking Assistant Professional premieres in the BMW iX.

The BMW iX underpins its status as a technology flagship with the premiere of a new and unique system for automated parking. Available from March 2022 for all model variants, Parking Assistant Professional enables particularly convenient parking in automated driving mode.

Using GPS and trajectory data defined by steering movements, the system can store various manoeuvres with a route length of up to 200 metres each. When arriving again at the respective starting point, Parking Assistant Professional can then take over the complete driving task including accelerating, braking, steering and changing between forward and reverse gear. The driver can concentrate on monitoring the surroundings during the automated manoeuvre.

The BMW Individual paint finish Oxid Grey metallic and 22-inch M aerodynamic wheels in Bicolour Titanium Bronze with 3D gloss finish are new to the equipment range for all model variants of the BMW iX.

My BMW App with new functions for convenient charging.

The My BMW App is the universal interface for communication between the driver, the vehicle, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. In spring 2022, its range of functions will be expanded to include digital services from BMW Charging for convenient electric mobility. This makes it even easier for drivers of a BMW model with purely electric or plug-in hybrid drive to find and select public charging stations. The My BMW app shows charging stations and their availability on a map section.

In addition, the My BMW app also makes it easier to use public charging points. Drivers of a BMW iX or a BMW i4 can now start charging the high-voltage battery by scanning a QR code or with just one operating step in the My BMW app.

Individual dynamics: New body finishes for the BMW M5, classic emblems to mark the anniversary of BMW M GmbH.

New and particularly expressive paint finishes will be available for the BMW M5 high-performance sedan as of spring 2022. The exterior of the high-performance model can now also be given an individual look with the body finishes Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect metallic, San Remo Green metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic as well as with the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Deep Grey metallic.

A historic logo also makes a comeback in the BMW M GmbH anniversary year. The classic "BMW Motorsport" emblems for the engine compartment lid, tailgate and wheel hub covers are available on request for all of the brand's performance and high-performance sports cars, as well as for BMW models delivered as an M Sport model or with an M sports package. Their design is based on the logo in the colours blue, purple and red, which was first used in 1973 on the racing cars of BMW Motorsport GmbH, which had been established the year before. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, BMW M GmbH is offering its customers the opportunity to express their passion for racing and their sense of tradition with these historic emblems.

Leipzig. BMW Group Plant Leipzig is launching series production of the second generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Having first reached dealerships almost seven years ago, in the autumn of 2014, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer was quick to establish itself in the market. More than 400,000 customers have since opted to buy the premium compact, which combines functional spaciousness with a dynamic drive concept. More than 368,000 of the vehicles concerned were manufactured in Leipzig. The successor of the sporty all-rounder will be made in Leipzig only.

“After the successful debut of the first-generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW Group Plant Leipzig is proud to produce its completely redesigned successor,” emphasised Plant Director Hans-Peter Kemser. “This vehicle is another opportunity for us to prove our wealth of experience and expertise in the manufacture of front-wheel drives in the BMW production network. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will also keep our plant running at capacity over the longer term.”

The key characteristics of the latest model generation are its extremely dynamic styling, clear design language and redesigned interior. In addition, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer takes mild hybrid technology into the compact class for the very first time, along with the latest connectivity features and extended equipment packages.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer sets new standards

Making its debut back in 2014, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer caused a revolution in the BMW product portfolio. Not only did it establish the Sports Activity Tourer segment, it was also the first front-wheel drive BMW. With its functional space concept, three-cylinder engines – a first for BMW at the time – and cutting-edge front-wheel drive, the newcomer offered all the dynamism of a BMW and heralded a new era for the brand.

The second-generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer sets standards once again. A pioneer, it paves the way for the forthcoming BMW and MINI models joining the compact segment over the coming years. Aspects such as the enhancements to the drivetrain and cockpit, and the new onboard network – now found in petrol and diesel-powered BMW 2 Series Active Tourer – all set new standards.

Seamless integration into production processes

Renowned for its extreme flexibility, Plant Leipzig had previously been entrusted with the manufacture of the BMW Group’s first electrified models – the BMW i3 and BMW i8. It is now the plant of choice once again, for the launch of this new vehicle concept. Despite the new requirements, only minor adjustments had to be made to the paintshop and assembly systems, and the only new production area was introduced into the bodyshop.

The second generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has now been integrated into production just as seamlessly and will roll off Leipzig’s production lines along with the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Dynamic design and updated interior

In terms of exterior design, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer now exudes even more sportiness and self-assurance, thanks to its dynamically elongated proportions and the clear, reduced treatment of its surfaces.

Inside, it offers a completely new sense of space. The interior has been fully redesigned, taking its cues from the fully electric technology flagship, the BMW iX. Particularly striking are the BMW Curved Display, the ‘floating’ armrest with its integrated control panel, and the slim instrument panel. Thanks to these features, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first non-electric BMW to have the cockpit layout of an electric one.

Another first in the latest BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the new BMW iDrive, which makes its debut appearance in the premium compact segment. The latest generation of the iDrive control system is based on BMW Operating System 8.

The second-generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer designed to accommodate combustion engines as well as electrified drive systems, and just a few months after market launch in summer 2022, two plug-in hybrids will be added to the range.

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is due for market launch in Germany on 26 February 2022.

Its uncomplicated functionality, progressive character profile and range of standard equipment – which comfortably exceeds that of the predecessor model and stands out against its rivals – make the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer a particularly attractive proposition for active, lifestyle-oriented target groups. Four model variants with front-wheel drive and outputs ranging from 100 kW/136 hp to 160 kW/218 hp will be available at launch in February 2022. The new model will be built at BMW Group Plant Leipzig and its vehicle architecture is designed to accommodate both combustion engines and electrified drive systems. Two plug-in hybrid models will be added to the line-up a few months after launch.

Design: modern crossover character, striking front end, dynamically stretched proportions.
The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer brings lifestyle attributes and aesthetic sophistication together into a modern crossover character profile. The clean, reduced surface treatment exudes sporting prowess and assured presence. At the front end of the car, these qualities are expressed most prominently by the striking BMW kidney grille, with its increased dimensions, and the slim contours of the headlights. The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer comes as standard with full-LED headlights. Adaptive LED Headlights with cornering light function, non-dazzling matrix high beam, urban lights, a motorway beam pattern and bad weather light are on the options list.

Much more heavily raked A-pillars compared to the predecessor model, a stretched side window graphic, flush-fitting door handles and slim C-pillars also play their part in the new car’s dynamic silhouette. The newly designed door shoulders around the A-pillars create much improved all-round visibility. With its broad shoulders and slim LED light units, the rear of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer cuts a particularly muscular figure. The exhaust tailpipes are integrated into the rear apron out of sight on all model variants.

Depending on the model variant, 16-inch or 17-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted as standard. Light-alloy wheels up to 19 inches in size are available as an option. The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer can also be ordered in Luxury Line trim or with an M Sport package as alternatives to basic specification. Two non-metallic and nine metallic paint finishes are available for the exterior.

Progressive premium ambience and wide-ranging interior functionality.
The size and versatility of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer’s interior are emphasised by the fundamental redesign introduced by the second-generation car. The cabin geometry and a host of details take their cues from the interior concept of the BMW iX technology flagship. This creates a progressive premium ambience, the key features of which include the slim instrument panel, the BMW Curved Display, the “floating” armrest with integrated control panel and an across-the-board reduction in the number of physical control elements.

The space underneath the armrest is used as a storage compartment, while the area in front of it houses generously sized cup holders and a newly designed smartphone slot. The phone remains visible to the driver and front passenger here and can be wirelessly charged as an option.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers occupants in its five seats noticeably better long-distance comfort that of its predecessor. The newly developed, multi-adjustable seats can also be ordered in optional Sensatec perforated or Vernasca leather. Also on the options list are sport seats with prominent bolsters and shoulder areas, electric seat adjustment (including memory function), lumbar support and a massage function. Acoustic comfort and occupant protection have been stepped up too. Indeed, a new interaction airbag between the driver and front passenger is added to the integrated passive safety concept.

An array of storage areas and the multi-adjustable rear seats also contribute to the car’s uncomplicated functionality in everyday use and on longer tips away. With the rear backrests in their cargo position, boot capacity increases by as much as 90 litres. The rear seats can also slide forwards by up to 13 centimetres. This and the 40 : 20 : 40 split/folding rear seat backrests present customers with a load compartment that can be used for a multitude of purposes. Boot capacity is 470 –1,455 litres in the BMW 218i Active Tourer and BMW 218d Active Tourer and 415 – 1,405 litres in the BMW 220i Active Tourer and BMW 223i Active Tourer. Automatic tailgate operation comes as standard, while an electrically operated trailer tow hitch can be ordered as an option.

Two-zone automatic climate control, sports steering wheel and BMW Maps as standard.
The progressive premium character of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is also underscored by its extensive standard specification. Fitted as standard alongside the BMW Maps navigation system are four USB-C ports and a 12V power socket in both the centre console and the boot, intelligent two-zone automatic climate control, a Sport leather steering wheel, a rain sensor with windscreen wiper control and automatic headlight activation, a much larger number of driver assistance systems compared with the predecessor model, and Park Assist with Reversing Assist Camera.

Newly structured equipment packages enable extremely specific individualisation of the car. Customers can order high-quality interior trim strips, as well as Sensatec surfaces for the instrument panel and front door shoulders with eye-catching contrast stitching. Other contributors to the premium feel include a mirror package, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass sunroof and a Harman Kardon Sound System.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: setting the pace in innovative powertrain technology.
The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is also at the vanguard of powertrain technology. The extensively updated combustion engines increase driving pleasure while reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and the latest generation of the seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission – now standard for all model variants – is likewise extremely efficient. A new version of 48V mild hybrid technology is making its debut in the BMW 223i Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 litres/100 km [42.8 – 47.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 149 – 137 g/km in the WLTP test cycle) and BMW 220i Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 6.5 – 5.9 litres/100 km [43.5 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 148 – 133 g/km in the WLTP test cycle). The electric motor integrated into the automatic transmission supplements the combustion engine with a power boost now increased to 14 kW/19 hp.

The new BMW 223i Active Tourer has an output of 160 kW/218 hp (generated jointly by the 150 kW/204 hp combustion engine and 14 kW/19 hp electric drive system), and the BMW 220i Active Tourer develops 125 kW/170 hp (generated jointly by the 115 kW/156 hp combustion engine and the 14 kW/19 hp electric drive system). Also available from launch is the 100 kW/136 hp BMW 218i Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 6.8 – 6.2 litres/100 km [41.5 – 45.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 154 – 140 g/km in the WLTP test cycle).

All the petrol engines feature a new combustion process and a dual injection system. The diesel engine powering the new BMW 218d Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 5.3 – 4.8 litres/100 km [53.3 – 58.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 138 – 125 g/km in the WLTP test cycle) employs low-friction pistons and two-stage turbocharging with increased efficiency. Maximum output is 110 kW/150 hp.

The line-up will expand further in summer 2022 with the addition of two plug-in hybrid models. These will feature fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology for the first time, enhancing dynamism and giving them a significantly longer electric range.

Sportiness and long-distance comfort in perfect harmony.
The chassis technology in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been engineered to deliver the brand’s customary sporting flair combined with impressive levels of ride comfort in every situation. With a body construction that reduces weight while increasing rigidity, a long wheelbase, and wider tracks than its predecessor, the car’s basic design provides the ideal blueprint for the job at hand.

Steering precision and agility have been enhanced by targeted updates for the single-joint spring strut axle at the front and the three-link rear axle. The near-actuator wheel slip limitation function included as standard improves both traction and directional stability. The integrated braking system is another new feature, as is the extra, lift-related damping for the front axle. The optional adaptive M suspension includes frequency-selective damping, sport steering and a 15-millimetre drop in ride height.

A fresh variety of systems for automated driving and parking.
The largest selection of systems for automated driving and parking yet offered for a BMW compact-segment model are available for the new edition of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Standard specification includes Cruise Control with brake function, Lane Departure Warning, the Evasion Assistant and front-collision warning. The latter now also reacts to oncoming traffic when turning left and to pedestrians and cyclists and when turning right (in countries where vehicles drive on the right). The Parking Assistant including Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant also comes as standard. Options include the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, Active Navigation, the exit warning function, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder functions.

Existing functions can be improved or expanded by means of Remote Software Upgrades, and customers can also use Functions on Demand to select and import a range of functions at a later stage, such as Driving Assistant Plus including Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function (availability depends on the hardware fitted in the vehicle and the market conditions).

The new BMW iDrive makes its debut in the premium compact segment.
The new generation of the control/operation system iDrive, included here in a compact-segment model from BMW for the first time, is based on BMW Operating System 8. It links up as standard with the BMW Curved Display – with its state-of-the-art graphics and menu structure – and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with expanded skills range. The BMW Curved Display fully digital screen grouping is formed by a 10.25-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 10.7 inches. The new BMW iDrive is built around intuitive touch control and voice control.

The new My Modes bring together individually selected vehicle settings with the relevant interior experience worlds. The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps can be specified as an option with the Augmented View function on the control display. The interior camera allows those on board to take snapshots during a journey and send them to their smartphone. New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer customers can also make use of a Personal eSIM designed to work with the new 5G mobile technology, as well as the BMW ID for individualisation of the user experience and further improved smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant. With the optional smartphone integration, numerous current BMW models will enable use of Android Auto in addition to Apple CarPlay as of summer 2020.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. Emergency Lane Assistant is another new function: this automatically guides the vehicle to the ideal edge of its lane in congested situations on motorways. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

Optimised smartphone integration: Android Auto can now also be used in the vehicle in addition to Apple CarPlay.
Depending on the model series, either standard or optional smartphone integration will enable use not just of Apple CarPlay but also of the digital services provided by Android Auto in numerous current BMW models as of summer 2020. This means that owners of a smartphone with the Android operating system can now access their familiar smartphone apps in the vehicle, just like users of an Apple iPhone. These include the digital voice assistant Google Assistant, the map service Google Maps, music streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music, and the messaging service WhatsApp.

The systems are integrated directly in the vehicle's display and control system via a wireless LAN connection between the respective smartphone and the vehicle. Here, the driver can view all the important information from the apps on the Control Display and also navigation directions in the instrument cluster and the optional Head-Up Display.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

Extended Business Package for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, new body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
The Business Package available for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer provides enhanced comfort and driving pleasure in city traffic as well as on lengthier trips. From July 2020 onwards it also includes Real Time Traffic Information. Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

* All new models available from start of production in July or August 2020

• The model update for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and
  BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will be introduced onto the market in March 2018. Sales of BMW’s first Sports Activity Tourer (SAT) in the premium compact class exceeded 380,000 units between 2014 and 2017. The two models – which stand out with their functional space concept – are therefore among the brand’s bestsellers. Their biggest market is Germany, followed by China and Great Britain. The conquest rate is high, with more than 70 per cent of customers new to the BMW brand.
• New front-end look with wide, single-piece air intake and more striking kidney grille underlines the car’s sporty and elegant appearance. The newly designed rear apron with larger exhaust tailpipes (twin tailpipes for all four-cylinder models) accentuates the car’s width. Particularly dynamic design for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and
  BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer models equipped with the new M Sport package.
• Two new exterior colours (Jucaro Beige and Sunset Orange) and six new light-alloy wheel designs in 17, 18 and 19-inch formats increase the scope for individualisation. Exclusive materials and new seat covers in cloth/Sensatec and leather add extra class to the interior. New electronic selector lever in models with seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission or eight-speed Steptronic.
• New design for the optional LED headlights and Adaptive LED Headlights with dazzle-free high beam. Familiar twin circular headlights, here with a hexagonal look, create an even more cutting-edge and eye-catching effect. Also new: the design of the optional LED front foglamps.
• Latest-generation petrol and diesel engines with extensive efficiency- enhancing modifications, e.g. to the crankshaft, heat management, valve train and turbocharging. BMW 2 Series Active Tourer engines develop outputs from 80 kW/109 hp to 170 kW/231 hp, the power units for the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer from 80 kW/109 hp to 141 kW/192 hp. Combined-cycle fuel economy for the new BMW EfficientDynamics engine family comes in at between 6.4 and 4.3 l/100 km (44.1 and 65.7 mpg imp), which equates to combined CO2 emissions of 147–112 g/km*.
• From 3/2018 all diesel engines will employ exhaust gas treatment technology including a diesel particulate filter, NOX adsorber catalyst and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system, which uses urea solution (AdBlue) injection to effectively reduce nitrogen oxides in the car’s exhaust gases. All four-cylinder diesels now feature BMW TwinPower Turbo technology incl. two turbochargers.
• Plug-in hybrid BMW 225xe iPerformance Active Tourer with electric range of 45 kilometres (28 miles), system output of 224 hp and combined fuel economy of 2.5–2.3 l/100 km [113–122.8 mpg imp] (CO2 emissions: 57–52 g/km)**.

• Seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission available for the first time in the two models, alongside an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and six-speed manual. The 220i is fitted as standard with the seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission, the 225i xDrive and 220d with the eight-speed Steptronic.
• Innovative operating concept with latest-generation iDrive system (available since 7/2017). Optional navigation systems with 6.5 or 8.8-inch touchscreen, voice control and iDrive operation with touch-sensitive interface.
• BMW ConnectedDrive Services (available since 7/2017) offer exceptional levels of connectivity. Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI), Time-to-Leave notifications and Share Destination via app, web and calendar, plus Microsoft Exchange function for sharing and editing emails, calendar entries and contact data. Smartphone integration easier thanks to Apple CarPlay. Inductive charging for compatible mobile phones and a WiFi hotspot for up to ten devices also included.
• Extensive line-up of driver assistance systems, including Active Cruise Control – with adaptive speed regulation between 140 km/h (87 mph) and rest – and the Traffic Jam Assistant, which automatically keeps the car in its lane at up to 60 km/h (37 mph); both assistance systems are part of the optional Driving Assistant Plus package.

Munich. From the summer of 2017, greater diversity in the engine portfolio of the new BMW 5 Series, an extended range of standard equipment for many models as well as new functions and additional options in the areas of light technology, operation, comfort and connectivity will enhance the attractiveness of the BMW vehicle range. Starting in July, the Sedan and Touring models of the new BMW 5 Series will be available in a new entry-level variant featuring a four-cylinder petrol engine. Furthermore, there will be a choice of two additional diesel engines with four or six cylinders respectively.

The BMW 2 Series Tourer and the BMW X1 will be equipped with a further enhanced petrol engine with 3 cylinders. The extended range of standard equipment features will comprise, inter alia, further driver assistance systems and a multifunction instrument display for the BMW 7 Series and the ConnectedDrive navigation package for the BMW X5 and the BMW X6. All model variants of the BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring will in future come with LED headlights and light alloy wheels as standard equipment. In keeping with their dynamic character, the most powerful diesel or petrol models will now be offered at least in the Sport Line equipment configuration.

As from July, the Control Display of the iDrive operating system will feature in many additional models a functional menu boasting a sophisticated tile arrangement with animated live graphics. Moreover, it will also be possible to use the central monitor as a touch screen if the vehicle is equipped with the navigation system Professional or with the option Navigation or Navigation Plus respectively. The functional range of the traffic situation display Real Time Traffic Information has also been further enhanced. The new hazard warning system is based on intelligent networking and car-to-car communication. The digital parking space search service On-Street Parking Information is now available in seven additional European cities.

The automobile manufacturer BMW and the mountain sports specialist SALEWA will continue to collaborate and pool their expertise also for the summer season 2016 – sustainable mobility and a perfect outdoor experience. The cooperative partnership has already existed since 2014 and offers the perfect combination of innovative technology, sporty driving dynamics and a fascination for mountain sports. New to the cooperation is the BMW 225xe iPerformance Active Tourer, which combines sustainable electric mobility with a high level of functionality and dynamics. 

The new SALEWA campaign “get vertical” aims to inspire and invite like-minded alpinists to leave their own “comfort zones” and join forces in rising to alpine challenges. Individual mobility is a crucial factor for fascinating outdoor experiences, as is the correct equipment. Immediately following the start of its market launch, a second diesel engine will be on offer for the latest generation of the BMW 7 Series, with the V8 power unit now also available in conjunction with rear-wheel drive. Likewise, the model range for the new BMW X1 will be complemented directly after its market launch by the introduction of a three-cylinder petrol engine of the BMW Group’s latest engine generation and a further four-wheel drive variant. Starting in November 2015, two additional model variants of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will also go on sale.

Parallel to the extension of the drive portfolio, the range of optional extras available for the BMW 7 Series will be supplemented by a further highlight. As from November 2015, it will be possible to equip the first model variants of the luxury sedan with the world’s first remote controlled parking feature. The new BMW X1 is – in addition to the basic model, the models Advantage, Sport Line and xLine – now also available in an M Sport version. Furthermore, an optimised version of the Parking Assistant, which thanks to additional sensors guarantees even more precise manoeuvring in parking spaces, will be on offer as from the autumn of 2015.

Munich. In the summer of 2015, BMW will be continuing with the generation change under the bonnet of many of its model series. Thanks to the optimised efficiency of the new three and four-cylinder engines, both the sporting characteristics and the fuel economy of numerous models will improve yet again. Moreover, the deployment of additional petrol and diesel power units will ensure even more diversity within the model range. Furthermore, as from July 2015, the BMW M235i xDrive Convertible will be the first open-top compact model to offer four-wheel drive as an option.

Moreover, the range of standard and optional equipment is to be extended as from the summer of 2015. The latest generation of the navigation system Professional as well as the Parking Assistant, which is now also usable for transversely positioned parking spaces, will also be available for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 4 Series. The safety features in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will be complemented, inter alia, by the Multi-Collision Braking function and the Alertness Assistant. New exterior colours will be available for the BMW 4 Series, the BMW M4 Coupe, the BMW M4 Convertible, the BMW 5 Series and the BMW Z4.

Munich. Coinciding with the market launch of new models in the spring of 2015, BMW will guarantee enhanced diversity and driving pleasure through the deployment of additional engines and equipment options in already familiar series. Across the BMW 2 Series, the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 4 Series, the number of models featuring power units with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology from the new family of BMW Group engines will improve the efficiency edge even further. Above all, the new BMW 214d Active Tourer, the new BMW 316d Sedan and the new BMW 316d Touring, the new BMW 418d Coupe as well as the models BMW 218i Coupe and BMW 218i Convertible score particularly well thanks to the exceptionally low fuel consumption and emission levels achieved by their three and four-cylinder engines.

Moreover, March 2015 will see the launch of the BMW 5 Series Edition Sport. At the same time, the models Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport will be available for the BMW 2 Series Coupe as alternatives to the basic version. Furthermore, the latest generation of the navigation system Professional will be offered henceforth as an option for the compact two-door car. Thanks to an extended range of BMW Individual options, it will be possible to configure the exterior and interior of the BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible in a particularly exclusive way. The standard equipment options for the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car will be supplemented by the Pure Impulse Experience programme.

BMW 2 Series Coupe, BMW 2 Series Convertible: New model diversity for enhanced driving pleasure and optimised efficiency.

All model variants being introduced in the spring of 2015 will feature power units of the latest generation with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology that ensure a further optimised relation between driving pleasure and fuel consumption. The models BMW 218i Coupe and BMW 218i Convertible feature a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power output of 100 kW/136 hp and a maximum torque of 220 Nm. The new engine can be optionally combined with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The BMW 218i Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds (automatic: 8.9 seconds), the BMW 218i Convertible in 9.4 seconds (automatic: 9.6 seconds). Fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels are 5.6 to 5.1 litres/100 km and 130 to 119 grams per km (automatic: 5.5 – 5.1 litres/100 km, 129 – 118 g/km) for the Coupe and 6.0 to 5.5 litres/100 km and 139 to 129 g/km (5.8 – 5.3 litres/100 km, 134 – 124 g/km) for the Convertible respectively (figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

Furthermore, from March 2015, the BMW 220d Coupe powered by a 140 kW/190 hp, four-cylinder diesel engine can also be equipped with the intelligent four-wheel drive system xDrive. The BMW 220d xDrive Coupe comes as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission and accelerates from 0-100/km in 6.9 seconds. Average fuel consumption is between 4.7 and 4.3 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions between 124 and 113 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

In addition to the extended engine portfolio, new equipment lines create further possibilities for individualization of the BMW 2 Series Coupe. The equipment range available as an alternative to the basic version will in future comprise – analogous to the BMW 2 Series Convertible – the model Advantage as well as the models Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport. Thanks to their precisely aligned design and equipment features, they offer additional comfort and accentuate the vehicle’s high quality and elegance or its sporting character respectively.

As from March 2015, new light alloy wheels will be available both for the closed and the open versions of the two-door car. The latest generation of the navigation system Professional, which excels through an optimised graphic display and offers, among other features, the possibility to update maps via a mobile phone connection, is now also available for the BMW 2 Series Coupe. For this version and the navigation system Business, both models feature an 8.8/6.5-inch control display respectively with a new exceptionally high-quality, narrow surround. The onboard monitor of the BMW 2 Series Coupe now features the sport indicator, which provides information on current engine performance and torque. Moreover, the instrument cluster in both models will be supplemented by a “current fuel consumption” display function.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with new entry-level diesel engine and extended range of equipment.

Starting March 2015, the model range for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be supplemented by a new entry-level diesel power unit. The new BMW 214d Active Tourer is powered by a 70 kW/95 hp, three-cylinder engine with a maximum torque of 220 Nm and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 12.9 seconds. Average fuel consumption is between 3.9 and 3.8 litres/100 km and CO2 emission levels are between 104 and 99 g/ km (figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

The Travel Package is a supplement within the range of optional equipment available for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and is ideally suited to the vehicle’s character. It comprises longitudinal rear seat adjustment, roof rails, tables attached to the backrests of driver seat and front-seat passenger seat as well as a luggage compartment net.

Generation change under the bonnet of the BMW 316d.

The BMW 316d Sedan and the BMW 316d Touring will be powered in future by a four-cylinder diesel power unit from the current BMW Group engine family. The generation change comes with an increase in power and efficiency. The new 2-litre engine delivers a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp, a 10 Nm increase in maximum torque to 270 Nm and can be optionally combined with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This engine allows the Sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds (automatic: 10.6 seconds) and the Touring model in 11.2 seconds (11.1 seconds). In conjunction with the manual transmission or the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, fuel consumption and emission levels have been lowered to between 4.3 and 3.9 litres per 100 km and between 113 and 102 g/km for the BMW 316d Sedan and to between 4.6 and 4.1 litres/100 km and 120 to 109 grams per km for the BMW 316d Touring respectively (figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

Premiere of the BMW 418d Coupe, greater power and efficiency for the BMW 420d Coupe and the BMW 420d Gran Coupe.

The introduction of additional engines of the latest generation brings added driving pleasure and further optimised efficiency also to the BMW 4 Series. March 2015 will witness the market launch of the entry-level version of the BMW 418d Coupe, the four-cylinder engine of which will be the fifth diesel power plant to be offered for the BMW 4 Series. The 2-litre engine delivers a maximum power output of 110 kW/150 hp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. The new BMW 418d Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 8-speed transmission. In spite of the car’s sporty character, average fuel consumption is between 4.5 and 4.2 litres/100 km (automatic: 4.4 – 4.1 litres/100 km) and CO2 emission levels range from 118 to 110 g/km (117 – 109 g/km; figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

A further new 2-litre diesel engine with more power and optimised efficiency will in future drive the models BMW 420d Coupe, BMW 420d xDrive Coupe, BMW 420d Gran Coupe and BMW 420d xDrive Gran Coupe. It generates an output of 140 kW/190 hp, an increase of 5 kW, delivers a maximum torque of 400 Nm (+20 Nm) and can be optionally combined with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. As a result, the relation between sportiness and efficiency reaches an even higher level. The BMW 420d Coupe sprints from a standstill to 100 km in 7.3 seconds (automatic: 7.1 seconds), the BMW 420d xDrive Coupe in just 7.4 seconds (7.2 seconds). Fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels are now between 4.5 and 4.2 litres/100 km and between 119 and 111 g/km for the BMW 420d Coupe (automatic: 4.3 – 4.0 litres/100 km, 114 – 106 g/km) and between 4.7 and 4.4 litres/100 km and between 125 and 117 grams per km for the BMW 420d xDrive Coupe (automatic: 4.7 – 4.4 litres/100 km, 125 – 117 g/km; figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

The BMW 420d Gran Coupe now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds (automatic: 7.3 seconds). In conjunction with the intelligent four-wheel drive system xDrive this figure is 7.6 seconds (7.4 seconds). Resulting from the new engine’s optimised level of efficiency, the BMW 420d Gran Coupe has an average fuel consumption of 4.5 to 4.2 litres/100 km (automatic: 4.3 – 4.0 litres/100 km) and CO2 emissions ranging from 119 to 111 g/km (114 – 106 g/km). The corresponding values for the BMW 420d xDrive Gran Coupe are 4.9 to 4.6 litres/100 km (automatic: 4.8 – 4.5 litres/100 km) and 129 to 121 g/km (126 – 118 g/km; figures as per EU test cycle depending on selected tyre size).

In addition to the revised engines, new exhaust systems featuring redesigned tailpipes are also being introduced to the BMW 4 Series. The cross section of the exhaust tailpipe for the BMW 418d Coupe is 75 mm. The models of the BMW 4 Series are powered by a 140 kW/190 hp diesel engine and are equipped with twin-flow tailpipes, each with a diameter of 70 mm.

BMW 5 Series: Edition Sport provides new accents in terms of dynamics.

Consistent optimisation has led to a further increase in the efficiency of BMW 5 Series models featuring a four-cylinder diesel engine of the latest generation and xDrive. The combination of a 140 kW/190 hp power unit, the standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent four-wheel drive system available for the BMW 520d xDrive Sedan and the BMW 520d xDrive Touring ensures ultimate driving pleasure and fuel consumption levels of between 4.9 and 4.5 litres (Sedan) and 5.2 to 4.8 litres (Touring) per 100 km respectively. Corresponding CO2 emission levels are between 129 and 119 g/km for the Sedan and 137 to 127 g/km for the Touring model.

From March 2015, the Edition Sport will be available as an attractive supplement for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and the BMW 5 Series Touring. It comprises selected exterior and interior options, which effectively underscore the dynamic character of the upper midrange bestseller. The Edition Sport is available for all model variants, excluding the BMW M Performance automobiles BMW M550d xDrive Sedan and BMW M550d xDrive Touring, and includes a leather-covered sports steering wheel, LED fog lamps, the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line as well as redesigned 18-inch, double spoke light alloy wheels.

The range of optional exterior colours available for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and the BMW 5 Series Touring will now include the variants Mediterranean Blue metallic and Mineral Grey metallic. These can also be chosen in combination with the M Sport Package. In future, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo will also be available in Kashmir Silver metallic

New BMW Individual options for the BMW M3 Sedan, the BMW M4 Coupe and the BMW M4 Convertible.

The extended range of BMW Individual equipment options available ex factory offers additional possibilities of combining the outstanding performance of the BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible with a particularly exclusive charisma. From March 2015, there will be a choice of new BMW Individual body colours that emphasise these models’ athletically modelled body surfaces in a particularly intensive way with a matt de luxe shimmer. The range of matt colours, which are applied in an elaborate process, comprises the variants Frozen Black metallic, Frozen Silver metallic, Frozen Red metallic and Frozen Brilliant White metallic.

Moreover, the range of model-specific equipment for the BMW M4 Coupe is being complemented by exceptionally high-quality options for the interior. For example, in future, the Coupe will also be available with enhanced BMW Individual leather upholstery Merino fine grain in the colours Opal White, Amaro Brown, Golden Brown, Cohiba Brown and Nutmeg as well as with BMW Individual all-leather black upholstery with contrasting seam in Sakhir Orange, Yellow, Blue or Silverstone. Furthermore, this model can now also be ordered with a colour-matched leather-covered BMW Individual instrument panel.

BMW i8 with extended range of standard equipment and new options.

Starting in March 2015, the exclusive character of the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car will be underlined by an extended range of standard equipment and new interior design options. The Pure Impulse Experience programme is now included in the range of features available for the BMW i8. It comprises lifestyle products in the areas of culture, design, travel and gastronomy, which are aligned to the progressive and sustainable “next-premium” orientation of the BMW i brand.

As from March 2015, the Carpo Carum Grey interior design impresses with innovative aesthetics and a high-quality appearance. Natural leather elements are combined with partially perforated leather surfaces in the light colour Carum Grey and specific BMW i Blue accents, such as those on the seatbelt straps or the double stitching on the seats and floor mats. Amido metallic surfaces on the instrument panel, centre console and doors round off the overall look. Further special equipment options available in future are a leather engine cover and black-painted brake callipers.

Since the premiere of the first four-wheel drive BMW 325i in 1985, BMW has consistently expanded its four-wheel drive competence with new models and constant further development in the field of drive technology. One of the milestones is undoubtedly the intelligent four-wheel drive system BMW xDrive, which was first used in the BMW X3 and the X5 in 2004 and is now available for numerous models and series. Even at that time, engineers did not focus solely on improving traction and vehicle stability. In addition to a high degree of functionality and enhanced cornering dynamics, the minimisation of system-related losses and constant weight reduction are top priorities set to keep the fuel consumption and emission levels of four-wheel drive vehicles as low as possible. To this end, the intelligent four-wheel drive system BMW xDrive is always aligned to each vehicle concept (Sedan/Coupe, SAV, SAC) with the aim of implementing the optimum solution.

Premiere: BMW xDrive complements front-wheel drive concept.
The latest example of model-specific alignment of the four-wheel drive system is provided by the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. The fundamental difference to previous variants is that, for the first time, BMW xDrive is premised on a front-wheel drive concept with transversally installed engines. The Active Tourer has already proven that front-wheel drive technology fully meets the brand’s demands in terms of driving dynamics. This is largely owed to the new range of modularly constructed three- and four-cylinder engines which, thanks to state-of-the-art TwinPower Turbo technology, excel to an equal extent through high performance characteristics and outstanding efficiency. With the BMW 225i xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6,5–6,4 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 152-148 g/km)* and the BMW 220d xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 4,8-4,6 l/100km; CO2 emissions combined: 127-122 g/km)*, the intelligent four-wheel drive system is now available for top-of-the-range power units to further improve traction, vehicle stability and cornering dynamics, with the aim of enhancing safety and driving pleasure. Both models feature BMW xDrive as standard in combination with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

Slender, lightweight four-wheel architecture.
The slender architecture featuring compact, lightweight components and the resulting low amount of space required by the new four-wheel drive system are excellently suited to the concept of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Thus the additional weight of the entire four-wheel drive technology is only around 61 kg. Furthermore, measures for reducing system-related losses and an energy-efficient operating strategy ensure extremely favourable fuel consumption and emission levels.

Power from the front drive to the rear axle is transferred by means of an angular gear (Power Take-Off) on the front differential and a two-part cardan shaft. The central component of the four-wheel drive system is an electro-hydraulically controlled multiple-disk clutch (Hang-On) inside the rear axle drive, which facilitates infinitely variable distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels. The corresponding commands are provided by an electronic control unit which, like the hydraulic pump, is located on the rear axle.

Power Take-Off: angular gear and two-part cardan shaft.
The angular gear is mounted behind the engine on the automatic transmission and crankcase. The input shaft is a hollow shaft construction and directly connected to the front axle differential. In this way, part of the drive force is transferred from the differential basket to the cardan shaft via the hollow shaft, the crown wheel and the pinion shaft. The angular gear operates at a fixed gear ratio (1:1.74) and is permanently engaged, meaning that the cardan shaft always rotates when the vehicle is driven. Reversal of transmission takes place in the rear axle drive so that the front and rear axle drive shafts both rotate at exactly the same speed.

Hang-On: electro-hydraulically controlled multiple-disk clutch.
The multiple-disk clutch located in the rear axle drive (Hang-On) directs a proportion of torque to the rear wheels according to each driving situation, thus ensuring variable power distribution between the front and rear axle as required. In extreme cases (e.g. the front wheels are standing on ice), the ratio can be 0:100. The required operating pressure (0 to 40 bar) is delivered by an electro-hydraulic pump, the speed of which is defined by a pulse-width-modulated signal from the electronic control unit. Pressure is not measured by a sensor, but extremely accurately by means of voltage and power alignment. In order to ensure maximum positioning accuracy, run-in behaviour and temperature influences are independently compensated, the system constantly adapting to ever changing operating conditions.

Efficient valve helps reduce fuel consumption.
Moreover, xDrive utilises an energy-efficient operating strategy: When four-wheel drive is not required – which is usually the case in day-to-day operation – the pump is deactivated, rendering the system unpressurised. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is then driven only via the front wheels. In order to make use of additional saving potentials, BMW has provided the multiple-disk clutch with a spring-loaded Efficient valve, which lowers the oil level in the clutch and significantly reduces friction losses (oil splash losses). When required, the system takes only fractions of a second to build up maximum operating pressure in the Efficient mode and thus deliver maximum torque to the rear wheels. This intervention goes unnoticed by the driver and passengers and without any losses in traction.

Intelligent networking: fast, precise and proactive.
In order to guarantee efficient and constant power distribution to the front and rear axle as required, the four-wheel drive system is managed from the control unit of the Dynamic Stability Control feature (DSC). In order to analyse each driving situation, DSC analyses a large amount of data providing information on each respective running condition and ensuring optimum distribution of drive torque. This information includes vehicle speed, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, steering angle, wheel speed, longitudinal inclination, accelerator position and the setup via Driving Experience Control. Furthermore, the DSC status, including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) and Performance Control is taken into account. Adjustment of the four-wheel drive system to the ever changing driving and road conditions is performed – in typical BMW xDrive manner – within fractions of a second, thus guaranteeing consistently neutral and safe handling even in difficult conditions. Nevertheless, the variable distribution of power between the two axles goes virtually unnoticed by the driver. Also, within the framework of the efficient operating strategy, torque distribution is precisely regulated as to avoid any loss of power due to wheel spin.  

BMW xDrive: maximum traction, enhanced cornering dynamics.
Thanks to DSC networking, any imminent wheel slip for example can be detected at an early stage. Through precise distribution of drive torque this situation can be anticipated and avoided. If for instance the vehicle threatens to drift outwards over the front wheels, increased tractive force is supplied to the rear axle, allowing the vehicle to turn in more accurately. On the other hand, xDrive directs excess force to the front wheels, should the rear of the vehicle threaten to swerve outwards. As a result, maximum four-wheel performance is available even before slippage occurs. Therefore, xDrive featured in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer not only ensures best possible traction and safety in adverse road conditions, but also enhances vehicle stability, cornering dynamics and ride comfort. In driving situations where the interconnection of all four wheels is disadvantageous – i.e. in an emergency stop – the system opens the multiple-disk clutch completely within milliseconds.

Only if optimum power distribution to the front and rear axle is not sufficient to keep the Active Tourer on the desired course, DSC intervenes by reducing engine output and/or by decelerating individual wheels. Munich. Just over a month after its market launch, BMW has expanded the range of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with the addition of three new engines and the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. As of November 2014 there will be two further diesel engines with three and four cylinders respectively as well as an additional 4-cylinder petrol engine for top-class performance figures and exemplary fuel consumption. All the power units in the new family of engines draw on the latest version of TwinPower Turbo Technology, thereby setting the benchmark in terms of power and efficiency. Meanwhile the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive now demonstrates its supreme qualities on board the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, too.

Economical entry-level diesel, high-revving 2-litre engines.
The 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 220i Active Tourer (combined fuel consumption: 6.1-5.9 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 142–137 g/km)* delivers a peak output of 141 kW/192 bhp at 4,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 280 Nm at 1,250 rpm. This makes for athletic performance figures: the BMW 220i takes 7.5 seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km/h, while its top speed is 230 km/h. The high-torque 4-cylinder diesel engine in the BMW 220d Active Tourer is no less dynamic and even more economical (combined fuel consumption: 4.5-4.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 119–115 g/km)*. The 2.0-litre power unit with a peak output of 140 kW/190 bhp at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,750 rpm is the top-of-the-range Active Tourer diesel. Finally, a new efficiency benchmark is set by the first 3-cylinder diesel in the BMW 216d Active Tourer: it has an average fuel consumption of 3.9–3.8 l/100 km* with CO2 emissions of 104–99 g/km*. This compact diesel has a capacity of 1.5 litres and an output of 85 kW/116 bhp at 4,000 rpm, putting a torque of 270 Nm on stream at just 1,750 rpm. As a result, the BMW 216d Active Tourer is able to reach speeds of up to 195 km/h and accelerate from standing to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. In this way, BMW once again demonstrates its expertise in the field of diesel technology.
The new engines can be combined with 6-speed manual transmission as standard or optionally with an automatic 8-speed Steptronic transmission (6-speed manual transmission only for the 216d).

With xDrive too: BMW 225i and 220d Active Tourer.
BMW xDrive will be available for the two top engine variants of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in future as well. The intelligent all-wheel drive system not only optimises traction and ride stability in all road and weather conditions, it also enhances the car's dynamic performance on corners. All-wheel drive comes as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission both in the BMW 220d xDrive Active Tourer (combined fuel consumption: 4.8-4.6 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 127–122 g/km)* and the BMW 225i xDrive Active Tourer (combined fuel consumption: 6.5-6.4 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 152–148 g/km)*. Both models set new benchmarks in the segment in terms of efficiency and dynamic performance.

With six engines (three petrol and three diesel), along with a choice of manual or Steptronic transmission and BMW xDrive, there will a total of 12 variants available as of November. This diverse range gives the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer a leading position within its class when it comes to efficiency and athletic flair.

Sölden. The BMW Group is breaking new ground by entering the attractive premium compact class with its latest offering, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. “The response to the 2 Series Active Tourer has been extremely positive, which makes us confident that this new vehicle will be a resounding success,” said Harald Krüger, board member of BMW AG responsible for production, as the new vehicle was presented in Sölden (Austria) on Wednesday. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is due to be launched on the European market on 27 September 2014.

The main markets for the 2 Series Active Tourer will be Europe and China. Europe is likely to account for some 40 per cent of sales and China around 15 per cent. “Apart from its amazing agility, unique for a vehicle in this segment, customers will appreciate the higher sitting position and spacious interior as well as its compactness, functionality and convenience,” stated Krüger.

The 2 Series Active Tourer will appeal to new customer groups

“Demand for premium cars in the compact class is developing very promisingly,” Krüger continued. With its MINI brand and the BMW 1 and 2 Series, the BMW Group is already well represented in the small and compact car segment. By expanding its product range, the Group is looking to attract new customer groups to the virtues of the BMW brand, just as it has already done with its successful BMW 1 Series. Around 70 per cent of the first-generation BMW 1 Series cars sold went to customers new to the brand.

“With the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer we mainly want to appeal to customers who may for family reasons have a wide range of needs in terms of functionality and convenience, but at the same time want to enjoy BMW’s typical strengths such as sportiness and innovative design. We are talking about a combination that has not been available on the market in the past and which sets us apart from the competition,” emphasised Krüger. The Active Tourer is the first ever BMW with front-wheel drive and the first core-brand BMW to become available with a three-cylinder engine. The new front-wheel drive architecture – with a transversely installed engine – allows maximum usage of the interior volume in a relatively small vehicle.

Economies of scale due to cross-brand vehicle architecture

The BMW Group has developed two architectures: one for future four-wheel and rear-wheel drive models and one cross-brand front- and four-wheel drive architecture, on which the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is based. This front-wheel architecture is also the basis for ensuring profitable growth in the premium small and compact car segment: “The standardisation of development and production processes based on the concept of cross-model/brand architectures and engine modules enables us to achieve considerable economies of scale within the Group,” said Krüger. 

Moreover, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first BMW to benefit from the modular engine concept.

The standardised modular engine enables the BMW Group to manufacture 3-, 4- and 6-cylinder petrol- and diesel-powered engines of varying capacities on one single assembly line. The high percentage of identical parts means the Group can greatly reduce costs, both in development and in production.

Growing premium segment

In the foreseeable future, the premium segment is likely to grow more quickly than the basis segment. The BMW Group expects to see increasing demand and an average annual growth of more than 4.5% (2013 – 2020) worldwide. The premium small and compact car segment is also likely to benefit from this growth.

Conscious of the need to meet the high level of spaciousness, variability and functionality demanded in the premium compact class, BMW has given the 2 Series Active Tourer a sophisticated front-wheel-drive system capable of delivering the degree of driver engagement expected of the brand’s models. Together with the long wheelbase of 2,670 millimetres and raised roofline, this configuration enables the room inside to be maximised, resulting in an unprecedented feeling of spaciousness. Driver and front passenger enjoy a far higher seating position than in a sedan, which affords a commanding all-round view at the same time as making it easier to get in and out. The wealth of storage facilities and the option of a fold-flat passenger seat backrest are just two examples of the interior’s impressive flexibility and cleverly devised layout. The cabin has a light and spacious feel to it, with all surfaces horizontally structured in a layered look. There is also the option of a large panoramic roof that lets light flood into the interior.

The brand identity with its overriding sense of dynamism is clearly present in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer too. The versatile luggage compartment, whose capacity can be enlarged from 468 to 1,510 litres, and the 40:20:40 split-folding rear backrest fitted as standard exemplify this model’s excellent everyday practicality. Flexibility is further enhanced by a sliding rear seat which allows legroom in the rear or the load compartment capacity to be increased as required. One particularly smart touch is the foldable boot floor that conceals a storage compartment with a handy multifunction tray. The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is being launched with a choice of three powerful, light and fuel-efficient three and four-cylinder drive units that form part of a new generation of engines. They are installed transversely and boast a compact design along with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, at the same time as complying with the EU6 emissions standard.

The new three-cylinder petrol unit stands out for its exceptional efficiency and great performance abilities. This cutting-edge powerplant is receiving its premiere in a model from the BMW core brand in the guise of the BMW 218i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 5.2–4.9 l/100 km [54.3–57.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 120–115 g/km) with six-speed manual gearbox.

The engine has a displacement of 1.5 litres, generates 100 kW/136 hp and excels with its spontaneous throttle response, hearty appetite for revs and high pulling power. The design of three-cylinder engines means they are not subject to first and second-order inertia forces, while the balancer shaft included on the BMW unit ensures that it operates even more smoothly over the entire rev range.

Topping the bill at market launch is the BMW 225i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.0–5.8 l/100 km [47.1–48.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 139–135 g/km)* with a standard-fitted eight-speed Steptronic gearbox. With an output of 170 kW/231 hp, a time of 6.6 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) dash and a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph), the model’s four-cylinder engine raises the bar for dynamic performance in its class.

Hard at work under the bonnet of the BMW 218d Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 4.3–4.1 l/100 km [65.7–68.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 114–109 g/km)* is a four-cylinder diesel engine. A member of the same new engine family as its two petrol counterparts, it delivers 110 kW/150 hp while mustering up peak torque of 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). This powerpack serves to reaffirm the exceptionally dynamic performance qualities of diesel engines from BMW, propelling the BMW 218d Active Tourer with standard six-speed manual gearbox from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 208 km/h (129 mph). An eight-speed Steptronic gearbox will be available as an option for this model variant.

The BMW among front-wheel-drive cars.
Like all BMW models, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer makes its mark with great driving dynamics and the sort of driving experience the brand is renowned for. The newly developed chassis, comprising a single-joint spring strut axle at the front and a multi-link rear axle, combines agility and directional precision with excellent handling stability and suspension comfort. The front drive axle in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has undergone extensive fine-tuning, ensuring that it endows the car with optimum driving dynamics and wonderfully precise steering feedback. The electromechanical steering and the system’s functional arrangement combine to produce a driving sensation that is devoid of interfering torque steer.

The intelligent use of high-tensile and ultra-high-tensile multi-phase steels makes a decisive contribution to safety standards in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, while also helping to keep the vehicle’s weight down. Apart from being a crucial factor in the model’s exceptional driving dynamics, this lightweight engineering is just one among many BMW EfficientDynamics technology elements. These also include the Auto Start Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration, Optimum Gearshift Indicator, on-demand operation of ancillary units and the integral Air Curtain, which uses two vertical air inlets in the front bumper to direct the airstream along the front wheels.

Five model variants designed to meet individual customer requirements.
In addition to the standard model, BMW also offers the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in four other variants with an interior, exterior and specification tailored even more closely to customer requirements. Standard equipment for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer already comprises the Radio Professional including a hands-free telephone facility with Bluetooth interface, the BMW iDrive control system with controller on the centre console and 6.5-inch Control Display, a rain sensor and automatic headlight activation, a sports leather steering wheel, the Intelligent Emergency Call system and Collision Warning with City Braking function. The Advantage, Sport Line and Luxury Line variants also feature two-zone automatic climate control, Park Distance Control at the rear, front foglamps, cruise control with braking function and a multifunction steering wheel.

The Sport Line model highlights the dynamic character of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with special alloy wheels and sports seats. The high-gloss black kidney grille bars, model-specific air intakes and the accent strip on the rear apron underline the car’s presence. And in keeping with the look, the exhaust tailpipe comes in an electroplated black chrome finish.

The Luxury Line model majors on elegance and exclusivity, as underlined by subtle chrome applications for the exterior before you climb aboard and the exquisite leather trim including heated seats for the driver and front passenger once inside.

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will also be available with the M Sport specification from the end of 2014. With its M aerodynamics package, High-gloss Shadow Line trim, M Sport suspension, 17 or 18-inch M light-alloy wheels, M leather steering wheel and sports seats with bespoke upholstery, the M Sport model of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer displays unbeatable road presence. The launch of the M Sport model will coincide with the addition to the range of variants equipped with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system xDrive. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be available in Germany from 27 September 2014 priced from €27,200.

High degree of connectivity for enhanced safety and comfort.
Standards of safety and comfort aboard the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are boosted by the assistance systems and various infotainment features that are collectively known as BMW ConnectedDrive. Take, for instance, the Traffic Jam Assistant, which works using a mono camera. It makes motorway driving less stressful under monotonous conditions: in dense traffic at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph) it lets the car “go with the flow”, enabling the driver to progress through the congestion in a more relaxed state. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle ahead and autonomously controls the car’s speed all the way to a standstill while providing active steering input. In this way the vehicle helps drivers to stay in lane as long as they keep at least one hand on the steering wheel.

BMW ConnectedDrive Services & Apps bring smartphone applications into the vehicle and allow innovative features like the Concierge Service or Real Time Traffic Information to be added. These can also be booked at a later date and, in many cases, for flexible periods of time. In this way, the functionality of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer can be vastly enhanced and updated by the owner at any time.

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first model in the premium compact class to be made available with a Head-Up Display, which projects all relevant driving information into the driver’s field of vision in full colour. Instead of being displayed on the windscreen itself, the information is shown on a screen that extends out between the steering wheel and windscreen. This enables drivers to view all key information without having to divert their attention from the road.

A member of the same new engine family as its two petrol counterparts, it delivers 110 kW/150 hp while mustering up a peak torque of 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). This powerpack serves to reaffirm the exceptionally dynamic performance qualities of diesel engines from BMW, propelling the BMW 218d Active Tourer from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.9 seconds* and on to a top speed of 205 km/h (127 mph)*.

Like all BMW models, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer makes its mark with great driving dynamics and the sort of driving experience the brand is renowned for. The newly developed chassis, comprising a single-joint spring strut axle at the front and a multi-link rear axle, combines agility and directional precision with excellent handling stability and suspension comfort. The front drive axle in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has undergone extensive fine-tuning, ensuring that it endows the car with optimum driving dynamics and wonderfully precise steering feedback. The electromechanical steering and the system’s functional arrangement combine to produce a driving sensation that is devoid of interfering torque steer.

The intelligent use of high-tensile and ultra-high-tensile multi-phase steels makes a decisive contribution to safety standards in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, while also helping to keep the vehicle’s weight down. Apart from being a crucial factor in the model’s exceptional driving dynamics, this lightweight engineering is just one among many BMW EfficientDynamics technology elements. These also include the Auto Start Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration, Optimum Gearshift Indicator, on-demand operation of ancillary units and the integral Air Curtain, which uses two vertical air inlets in the front bumper to direct the airstream along the front wheels.

M Sport package for maximum presence.
Besides the standard trim, two further equipment lines both allow owners to put an individual slant on the interior and exterior. The Sport Line places the emphasis on the dynamic side, while the Luxury Line is all about elegance and exclusiveness. The M Sport package that will be available from November opens up even greater scope for customisation. An M Aerodynamics package, M Sport suspension and 17 or 18-inch M light-alloy wheels on the outside are complemented by an M leather steering wheel and specially upholstered sports seats in the interior to maximise the on-road presence of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. The range will be extended from late autumn to include variants equipped with the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

High degree of connectivity for enhanced safety and comfort.
Standards of safety and comfort aboard the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are boosted by the assistance systems and various infotainment features that are collectively known as BMW ConnectedDrive. Take, for instance, the Traffic Jam Assistant or the camera-based cruise control system with Stop & Go function, which both work using a mono camera. They assist with accelerating and braking (longitudinal guidance) as well as steering (lateral guidance with the Traffic Jam Assistant), at the same time as relieving the driver of monotonous tasks, such as when driving in a queue of traffic on the motorway or in heavy city-centre traffic.

BMW ConnectedDrive Services & Apps bring smartphone applications into the vehicle and allow innovative features like the Concierge Service or Real Time Traffic Information to be added. These can also be booked at a later date and, in many cases, for flexible periods of time. In this way, the functionality of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer can be vastly enhanced and updated by the owner at any time.

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the first model in the premium compact class to be made available with a Head-Up Display, which projects all relevant driving information into the driver’s field of vision in full colour. Instead of being displayed on the windscreen itself, the information is shown on a screen that extends out between the steering wheel and windscreen. This enables drivers to view all key information without having to divert their attention from the road.
