Munich. Autumn 2025 adds revised powertrains, new features and practical details to the current BMW model range. The entry-level models into the world of BMW M – the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé as well as the corresponding models in the BMW 3 Series and 4 Series – will in future have more powerful and fuel-efficient petrol engines. In the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and the BMW i4, the optional Adaptive LED Headlights will now also include laser rear lights.

More power, reduced consumption for BMW M240i xDrive Coupé and the entry-level models into the world of BMW M in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

Autumn 2025 will see both the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.5 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 172 g/km; CO₂ class F) and the BMW M340i xDrive Touring (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.9 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 181 g/km; CO₂ class G) fitted with a more powerful variant of the 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. It now has an output of 288 kW/392 hp, with the mild hybrid system contributing 9 kW/12 hp. The overall increase in power over the previous model is 13 kW/18 hp. Maximum torque has also increased by 40 Nm, to 540 Nm.

This revised powertrain will in future also be fitted in the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.7 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 175 g/km; CO₂ class F), the BMW M440i xDrive Convertible (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.7 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 176 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.8 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 179 g/km; CO₂ class G).

The output increase makes for even more dynamic performance in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models mentioned above. It shaves 0.1 seconds off the time it takes each model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. As a result, the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan can now perform this sprint in just 4.3 seconds. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.0 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 183 g/km; CO₂ class G) now also comes fitted with this more powerful engine.

In addition to the output boost, all models benefit from a significant increase in engine efficiency. As a result, the WLTP fuel consumption of the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, for example, drops from 8.8–8.7 litres/100 km to 8.0 litres/100 km. CO₂ emissions were likewise reduced, from the previous 200–199 g/km to 183 g/km (see table below for all fuel consumption and emissions figures of the new powertrains).

New exterior colours for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, Adaptive LED headlights available for more BMW 4 Series models, practical addition for the BMW 5 Series family.
From autumn 2025, an additional exterior colour will be available as an option for all versions of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé with the M Sport design or the M Sport package. Cape York Green can be ordered for the first time in conjunction with these trim levels.

The optional Adaptive LED Headlights for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and BMW i4 will also benefit from a significant upgrade. In addition to headlights that will illuminate the road evenly in every situation, this option will now also include laser rear lights. Moreover, Adaptive LED Headlights are also available as an individual option without the M Sport package Pro for the BMW 420i, BMW 420d and BMW 420d xDrive.

In conjunction with Veganza and Merino upholstery, the comprehensive standard equipment in the BMW X3 now also includes rear headrests and side sections of the second row of seats in the upholstery colour. This further enhances the premium appeal of the BMW X3 interior.

All BMW 5 Series, BMW i5 and BMW M5 Sedan and Touring models will in future offer a very handy feature. A coat hook on the B-pillar trim, provided as standard, makes transporting jackets and coats particularly easy.

Improvements related to BMW Connected Drive.
From autumn 2025, the Charging Guide in the Explore tab of the My BMW app will offer relevant help on all aspects of charging – e.g., “How do I charge?”, or “How do I optimise charging?” This helps to make charging stops as convenient and efficient as possible.

BMW Maps charge-optimised route planning for all-electric vehicles is now also available in BMW vehicles with Operating System 8 and 8.5 in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Singapore.

Munich. Summer 2025 is set to bring innovations in electric drive technology and digitalisation as well as new standard and optional equipment features that will make the current BMW model range even more attractive. New power electronics in the all-electric BMW i4 result in even greater efficiency and increased range. The most powerful BMW i4 will also debut at the same time. Numerous BMW models will come as standard with Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key, which has now become even easier to set up.

From summer 2025, the BMW X1, BMW X2 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be available with new exterior and interior options. Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé now includes heated front seats. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now offers an alternative voice.

BMW i4: reduced consumption, new range-topper with extra power.

From July 2025, the BMW i4 eDrive35 (WLTP combined (EnVKV): energy consumption 17.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A); range 428-514 km (WLTP combined (PER)) as well as the BMW i4 eDrive40 (WLTP combined (EnVKV): energy consumption 17.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A); range 510-613 km (WLTP combined (PER)) will come with silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC inverter), which reduce consumption by around 4.5 per cent while adding up to 22 kilometres of range (depending on the model and equipment installed as part of an individual vehicle configuration).

From July 2025, the new range topper for the all-electric BMW i4 comes in the shape of the BMW i4 M60 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): energy consumption 20.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A); range 433-551 km (WLTP combined (PER)). Compared to the predecessor, it provides an additional 42 kW/57 hp of power, for a system output of 442 kW/601 hp. The new BMW i4 M60 xDrive takes 3.7 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.

BMW Digital Key: smartphone used as key enables many additional functions.

The BMW Digital Key will soon become the tool of choice to unlock and lock many BMW models, courtesy of a simplified set-up process. The BMW iX was the first to be updated in March 2025, and many model series will follow from July 2025: the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring, BMW M5, BMW M5 Touring and BMW 7 Series. The BMW X5, BMW X5 M, BMW X6, BMW X6 M, BMW X7 and BMW XM models will follow from August 2025. The BMW X3 will come with the new set-up process in the US from August 2025 and in South Africa from September 2025.

The feature will then include a physical key, a Setup Card and a Service Card. The new Setup Card makes it easier than ever to set up the BMW Digital Key on smartphones from all major manufacturers by simply holding the card to the mobile phone or scanning the QR code on the back. The next step takes the user straight into the My BMW app. After authorisation via the Setup Card, the BMW ID is linked to the vehicle and the BMW Digital Key is then activated. After activation, the customer can easily share the Digital Key with other people by sending them a text message. Activation is possible on up to 18 devices. Owners can define various roles and permissions for each vehicle user. A particularly useful function ideal for novice drivers is limiting acceleration and top speed, for example. If a physical key does need to be handed over, for example in the workshop or in the event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be used. This should always be carried deactivated so it can be activated as a fully-fledged key when needed, via a click on the central display.

For all eventualities: tyre repair kit and tyre repair kit Plus.

From summer 2025, the tyre repair kit will come as standard for various BMW models. These include the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 3 Series Touring, BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 4 Series Convertible. The optional tyre repair kit Plus is available for the BMW X3 (excluding the BMW X3 30e xDrive).

Individual paintwork finishes at a glance, in the BMW Configurator.

Customers appreciate the BMW Individual paintwork colours as a way to add a personal touch to their new BMW. Special paintwork finishes which previously required looking up in the BMW Individual Visualiser can be selected within the BMW Configurator. With just a few exceptions, this applies to all BMW models.

More equipment for BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will from summer 2025 be even more comprehensive and include heated front seats and an alarm system. The optional M Technology Package II available for the BMW M135 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 188 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.2 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 185 g/km; CO₂ class G) now includes M seat belts with M colours in the weave.

New colours for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2.

Summer 2025 will bring new exterior and interior options for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2. New paintwork colours include Fire Red metallic and Night Dusk Blue for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as well as Dune Grey metallic for the BMW X2. All three colours are also available for the BMW X1, along with BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. Veganza perforated upholstery in the colours Castanea, Smoke White and Atlas Grey/Smoke White is newly available for customising the interior of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X2. The Castanea and Smoke White colourways are available for the BMW X1. The Econeer Bicolour Blue upholstery can be ordered from summer 2025 in combination with front sport seats only. Another new option is the Brushed Aluminium Shadow interior trim.

More comprehensive equipment for BMW 7 Series, BMW X3 and BMW iX.

The BMW 7 Series and BMW i7 now feature laminated safety glass with contrast print as standard. From summer 2025, comfort glazing, sun protection glazing and the Heat Comfort package will also be available as individual options for the first time, enabling even more specific customisation.

A new equipment option for the BMW X3 is the attractive M door sill trim. It can be ordered for the M Sport package, M Sport package Pro and the BMW X3 M50 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 189 g/km; CO₂ class G).

BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic is a new paintwork finish with a particularly distinctive character, available as an option for the BMW iX from summer 2025.

Ultimate Package for BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition.

The BMW X5 M Competition (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 12.9 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 292 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW X6 M Competition (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 12.8 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 289 g/km; CO₂ class G) now benefit from the optional Ultimate Package. In addition to the M Carbon engine cover, this also includes M Carbon mirror caps, the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof, active seat ventilation as well as the massage function at the front and the Comfort Package. The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System ensures exceptional sound quality. The M Driver’s Package included as part of the package increases top speed to 290 km/h. In the BMW X6 M Competition, this is complemented by an exclusive M Carbon rear spoiler.

Comprehensively upgraded BMW iDrive.

Among the numerous innovations in the area of digital services is the upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant in BMW Operating System 9. It now offers customers in Turkey, Greece and Hungary natural-language voice control in their native languages.  

In the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW X3, customers in many countries* can now link their own Amazon Alexa account to the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This enables them to use intuitive voice control to enjoy music via the “Hey BMW” command – courtesy of Alexa running in the background, just like at home. In addition, a second voice is now available for the assistant.** Further improvements in language understanding and faster processing speeds contribute to a more harmonious overall experience.

From summer 2025, BMW Digital Premium with BMW Operating System 9 will, subject to country-specific availability, enable customers to use the Zoom app on their Curved Display for videoconferencing when the vehicle is stationary. To avoid distractions, the app automatically deactivates the video while driving.

Parking Assistant Plus upgrade.

From July 2025, the functions of the Parking Assistant Plus will be enhanced for many BMW models. It will now also use marker lines around parking spots to help identify available spaces and ensure parking precision. Previously, this feature was only available as part of the Parking Assistant Professional.

BMW Maps user interface upgrades in BMW Operating System 8.5.

BMW Maps offers intuitive destination entry and intelligent route guidance and will come with further user interface improvements from summer 2025. For faster access to frequently used functions, the home screen of the control display will feature direct touch buttons for “Home” and “Work” in the BMW Maps QuickSelect Widget, for example.

Munich. Electric drivetrain upgrades, new engine variants, as well as additional standard and optional equipment features will make the current BMW model range even more attractive and versatile in spring 2025. The use of new components for the power electronics and other measures designed to optimise efficiency have resulted in a considerably increased range for the all-electric BMW i5. Standard equipment on all BMW 5 Series models will soon include ambient lighting complete with a BMW Interaction Bar featuring a crystalline surface, lumbar support for both front seats as well as the Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system. 

Two new variants of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will become available in April 2025. The BMW X3 model range will likewise be expanded, with a powerful six-cylinder in-line diesel engine. Almost 50 per cent higher charging rates – that’s the news for the plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 7 Series and the BMW XM models. With the BMW Digital Key Plus, owners can, depending on the type of mobile device, activate up to 18 digital vehicle keys with individually configured access permissions. The new tyre repair kit Plus will become part of the standard equipment for selected BMW models from March 2025. It enables owners to continue their journey even with a tyre puncture. Adaptive LED Headlights will become part of the standard equipment for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models in spring 2025. 

BMW i5 and BMW i5 Touring now even more energy-efficient.

From March 2025 the all-electric models of the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring will benefit from a number of technical advances that reduce their energy consumption. The result is a noticeably greater range, with an increase of up to 47 kilometres (depending on the model and equipment installed as part of an individual vehicle configuration). This owes much to the first ever use of silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC converter) of the BMW i5 and to particularly low-rolling-resistance tyres fitted to aerodynamic alloy wheels. The optimised wheel bearings will also help save power.

19" aerodynamic wheels 1056 bi-colour are available for the first time as an option for the BMW i5 eDrive40 (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 18.0–17.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A) and the BMW i5 xDrive40 (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 18.9–18.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A).

The optimisations for the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 19.5–19.4 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A) lower WLTP energy consumption by up to 9 per cent (depending on model and equipment installed as part of an individual vehicle configuration), while the new BMW i5 eDrive40 saves up to 8 per cent. 

Standard equipment on the BMW i5 M60 xDrive (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 19.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A) now includes the M Sport package Pro. In addition, the BMW 5 Series models benefit from further interior upgrades. From now on, all models include the previously optional ambient lighting with the BMW Interaction Bar featuring a crystalline surface as standard. In addition, they now come with lumbar support for both front seats, as well as the Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system. The switchgear in the doors has also been upgraded and is now finished in high-gloss Black. BMW Individual Merino Leather in Black/Dark Violet is available as a new option for customising the interior.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Two additional powertrain variants.
The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range available from March 2025 will include a new entry-level variant. The new BMW 216 Gran Coupé (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): fuel consumption 6.4 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions 145 g/km; CO₂ class E) offers a particularly attractive introduction to the world of hallmark BMW driving pleasure. Its 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine has 90 kW/122 hp of power and a peak torque of 230 Nm. The standard seven-speed double-clutch Steptronic transmission directs engine power to the front wheels. Accelerating the new BMW 216 Gran Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.9 seconds.

The new BMW 223 xDrive Gran Coupé (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): fuel consumption 6.4–6.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 144 g/km; CO₂ class E) adds an all-wheel drive variant with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to the range. Its four-cylinder petrol engine and integrated electric motor deliver a total system output of 160 kW/218 hp. This powertrain adds to the car’s efficiency and is capable of particularly fast responses. The new BMW 223 xDrive Gran Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. Production of the two new
BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé models will start in March 2025 at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, Germany. The BMW kidney Iconic Glow is available as part of the Innovation package and enables a purposeful customisation of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé’s exterior. It provides unique visuals, especially after dark. This option can also be ordered for the BMW 1 Series.

BMW X3 40d xDrive: Especially powerful six-cylinder diesel.
A 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line diesel from the latest BMW Group engine generation will complement the BMW X3 powertrain range from May 2025. It will make the new BMW X3 40d xDrive (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): fuel consumption 6.7 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions 177 g/km; CO₂ class G) the most powerful diesel variant of this premium executive Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). Its highly efficient powertrain offers 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, a combined output of 223 kW/303 hp and 670 Nm of peak torque. The system’s electric motor is integrated into the eight‑speed Steptronic transmission. The new BMW X3 40d xDrive takes 5.4 seconds to get to 100 km/h from a standing start; its top speed is 245 km/h. It is produced at the BMW Group Plant Rosslyn in South Africa.

Higher charging rates for everyday driving without generating local emissions.
A faster AC charging rate, increased from 7.4 kW to 11 kW, will result in significantly reduced charging times for various BMW plug-in hybrid models from March 2025. This will benefit the plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 7 Series and all BMW XM models.

BMW Digital Key Plus as standard in the new BMW iX.

In the new BMW iX, the BMW Digital Key Plus will become the driver’s first choice for vehicle access from March 2025. The package also includes a physical key, a Setup Card and a Service Card. The new Setup Card makes installing the Digital Key Plus on a smartphone easier than ever. Users can simply hold the card close to their mobile device or scan the QR code on the back. Once activated, drivers can safely share the Digital Key Plus with others, using a simple text message. Depending on the mobile device, up to 18 digital keys can be activated soon. Different roles and permissions can be set for the vehicle when sharing the keys. For example, the vehicle’s acceleration and top speed can be limited – a particularly useful feature for novice drivers. Moreover, the BMW Digital Key Plus enables additional control functions from the vehicle’s vicinity, such as having the BMW iX enter or exit a parking space via the My BMW app. And if there ever is a need to hand over a physical key, for example for service visits or in the event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be activated as a full-fledged key with a single click.

Other digital improvements and enhancements.
The popular YouTube* video app has been available for vehicles with BMW Operating System 9 since January 2025, provided the customer has activated BMW Digital Premium. Furthermore, the Personal eSIM in BMW Operating System 9 can now be activated for improved telephony and a WiFi hotspot in the vehicle. Vehicles with BMW Operating System 8.5 benefit from a more intuitive BMW Maps interface.

Tyre repair kit Plus: Remaining mobile the easy way.

The new tyre repair kit Plus, part of the standard equipment for selected BMW models from March 2025, enables customers to continue their journey even with a tyre puncture. This requires just a few simple steps that are explained in the vehicle’s Integrated Owner’s Handbook. The one-piece tyre repair kit includes a magnet and connector pin to secure it to the hub of the affected wheel. A hose then fills the tyre with air and aerosol sealant using an integrated compressor. Once a sufficient tyre pressure above 1.5 bar has been achieved, the journey can be continued, with the device safely attached to the wheel hub. Drivers can now

cover a range of up to 200 kilometres at a top speed of 80 km/h. This should easily get them to the nearest service centre. From spring 2025 the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW iX and various models of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will come with this equipment feature. The tyre repair kit Plus is also included with the models of the BMW 5 Series Sedan (except for models with standard 19-inch light alloy wheels Triplex-spoke style 933 Silver).

BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7 and BMW M5: Added equipment.
The comprehensive standard equipment on the BMW X5 and BMW X6 will from spring 2025 include adaptive matrix LED headlights. The BMW X7 will always come with the Parking Assistant Professional. Standard equipment for the M60i xDrive powertrain version of all three model series will also include the M Sport package Pro, the Harman Kardon surround sound system and sun protection glazing.

The BMW M5 will also benefit from more comprehensive equipment. Two new upholstery options are available to add special accents to the interior. In addition to BMW Individual Taupe Grey/Deep Lagoon Merino Leather, BMW Individual Black/Dark Violet Merino Leather is available as a new colourway. In all BMW M5 variants, as well as in all BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring models, the trim and switches for the power windows, mirror adjustment and tailgate button are finished in high-gloss Black with a 3D effect as standard.

New light alloy wheels for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1.

17-inch light alloy wheels Star-spoke style 875 will be available for various BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1 models from March 2025.

Leipzig. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is made exclusively at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, where production of the second generation is now being launched. It joins the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and MINI Countryman in the portfolio of models made at the plant, which puts out up to 1,300 vehicles a day. The four models with three different drive options by two different brands are all made on a single production line – a testament to the extreme flexibility of production at Leipzig. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is due for market launch in March 2025.

Five years ago, the four-door Coupé for the compact segment was an all-new product presented by BMW as a more luxurious alternative to the classic sedan. Production of the first BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé started in Leipzig on 1 November 2019, with market launch in March 2020. The main markets have been the UK, China and the US.

Sporty, elegant design 

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is captivating, with its expressive styling, completely new range of engines, extensively revised suspension technologies and an innovative system for partially automated driving and parking that comes as standard. It has also gained 25 millimetres in height and 20 millimetres in length.

The exterior design is defined by a low front section angled deep to the road, a dynamically elongated silhouette and a powerful-looking rear, lending the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé even more sporty elegance. The tailgate is assembled with the help of a completely new production machine that was installed at the Plant Leipzig bodyshop specially for the purpose and features laser-beam welding technology. Like the new BMW 1 Series, which has been rolling off the production line since July, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé features the striking, broad BMW kidney grille with its innovative combination of vertical and diagonal bars. From March 2025 this will be available with an optional illuminated surround as well.

New engines and colours 

The redesigned interior of the four-door BMW 2 Series Coupé is entirely leather-free and comes complete with Curved Display, just like all the other BMW models made in Leipzig. Reengineered seats offer enhanced comfort, especially on longer journeys.

The top-of-the-range version is the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé, powered by a 221kW/300 hp four-cylinder engine (combined fuel consumption according to WLTP: 8.2-7.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions according to WLTP: 185-170 g/km; fuel consumption according to Pkw-EnVKV: 8.2 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions according to Pkw-EnVKV: 185 g/km; CO₂ class according to Pkw-EnVKV: G). At market launch in March 2025, the engine portfolio will include another petrol engine plus two diesel options.

The compact BMW 2 Series four-door is currently available in two unicolour, seven metallic and four BMW Individual finishes as well as a wide range of BMW Individual special paints. An optional contrast roof is also available, in high-gloss black.

Plant extension and nightshifts support increased production volume

With the production launch of the second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the model family at BMW Group Plant Leipzig is now complete. “The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 1 Series, BMW Active Tourer, MINI Countryman and our first fully electric model, the MINI Countryman Electric, make for good capacity utilisation at Plant Leipzig. Our products are very popular with customers,” says Plant Director Petra Peterhansel.

BMW Group Plant Leipzig has been undergoing comprehensive extension since 2018 and can now manufacture up to 350,000 cars a year – 100,000 more than previously. Since November 2023 its production volumes have increased thanks to the MINI Countryman, making it the only BMW Group plant to manufacture cars by two brands on the same production line. Plant Leipzig can produce up to 500 MINI and approx. 800 BMW vehicles a day, with increased volumes helping to secure employment and generating as many as 900 new jobs in vehicle production alone

in 2024. Since opening for business in 2005, Plant Leipzig introduced nightshifts in assembly for the first time in September of this year and now manufactures BMW and MINI vehicles round the clock in three shifts.

Munich. The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has made its first public appearance in a highly exclusive setting. BMW presented the new edition of its elegantly sporty four-door model at ApeFest 2024 in Lisbon just two days after the official start of communication. The car’s world premiere was one of the highlights of the event, which is staged annually by the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). BAYC is one of the best-known non-fungible token (NFT) collections from American company Yuga Labs and comprises a total of 10,000 unique digital collector’s items featuring pictures of cartoon apes. ApeFest is primarily put on for the holders of these digital goods – a Web3 community boasting high levels of technological affinity, remarkable creative powers and strong innovative spirit, making its members a perfect match for the BMW brand. At ApeFest they come together to connect, shape the future of Web3 technology and enjoy access to exclusive digital content and experiences that allow them to come up with new business ideas too, among other things. BMW once again partnered the event this year.

New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé starred in art contest for the BAYC community: one-off model unveiled at ApeFest 2024.

The ApeFest community had a unique opportunity to experience the second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé up close ahead of its official launch. Two specimens of the compact four-door model – both featuring an in-car gaming experience – were on show, together with a concept car in a unique design that was the product of an online art contest.

In the run-up to ApeFest, Yuga Labs launched an online art contest within the community with the assistance of BMW. Rida, an artist and 3D graphics expert from Dubai, came out on top in the contest against four other contenders.

With its clean lines, golden accents and rich textures, the exterior of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé he designed in the ApeCar look emphasises the vehicle’s elegant sportiness and premium appeal, while a mosaic pattern made up of cartoon ape silhouettes delivers a message of community. BMW added bespoke BMW M Performance Parts to give the one-off model a sharper appearance for an even more dynamic and progressive feel.

Following the spectacular reveal at this year’s ApeFest, Bored Ape or Mutant Ape NFT holders had the opportunity to register their interest in buying the unique model. Once the future owner of the ApeCar has been chosen from all the prospective buyers, BMW will build the customised BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé in a configuration adapted to the buyer’s home market and will also equip it with a selection of exclusive digital features.

New title for action-packed in-car gaming – “Dookey Dash: Unclogged”.

BMW capitalised on the avant-garde mood at ApeFest to present a beta version of the new title “Dookey Dash: Unclogged” in collaboration with the game’s creator Yuga Labs. The updated version of this action-packed endless runner game can now also be played on iOS and Android mobile devices and will be rolled out in the coming months as part of the BMW Digital Premium package for all vehicles with BMW Operating System 9. A special gimmick has been included that allows players to select a 3D model of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé as a speedy underwater car and then race though a fictional underworld with it. Players chasing the high score have to avoid obstacles, break through barriers and collect boosters and power-ups.

This innovative form of in-car gaming offered in current BMW models allows the occupants to pass the time by playing casual games on the control display while the vehicle is parked. Dookey Dash: Unclogged is available as part of the BMW Digital Premium package along with a dozen other video games and is imported over the air from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. ApeFest attendees had the opportunity to test out the hit game ahead of its official release.

BMW Lifestyle with exclusive, customised ApeFest collection.

Customisation means a lot to the BAYC community, so BMW Lifestyle came up with a special design for selected products from the current collection. This cult BMW Mechanics Jacket, which serves as a club jacket, is a particularly noteworthy highlight. Members get an interactive patch for the jacket allowing selected interaction with BMW. This smart fashion piece also includes a built-in NFC chip that enables the members to connect with one another.

The exclusive articles were available to buy from the BMW Lifestyle pop-up store at the event. The products could also be personalised with a print gun to make them truly unique.

BMW M Driving Experience scores a hit with specially developed version of BMW M Mixed Reality (MMR).

ApeFest 2024 also provided the venue for the premiere of a new and innovative version of BMW M Mixed Reality – a one-of-a-kind driving experience in which the physical and virtual worlds merge into one for the driver. Thanks to the very latest VR and GPS technology, the vehicle itself becomes the controller and can be guided through a virtual world by the driver.

The existing MMR was further refined for ApeFest and augmented with 3D elements from a partner for the first time. BAYC-specific content, such as apes, unicorns and crocodiles, was added to the mixed-reality experience with the help of the software specialists from Yuga Labs.

The ApeFest attendees set off on a captivating phygital tour through the pulsating cityscape of Lisbon in BMW M models that had been specially designed for the event. The experience allowed them to enjoy pushing the BMW M2 (fuel consumption, combined in the WLTP cycle: 9.8 – 9.6 litres/100 km [28.8 – 29.4 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined in the WLTP cycle: 223 – 218 g/km; fuel consumption, combined according to Pkw-EnVKV: 10.2 – 9.8 litres/100 km [27.7 – 28.8 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined according to Pkw-EnVKV: 231 – 222 g/km; CO₂ class according to Pkw-EnVKV: G) and BMW M4 Competition Coupé (fuel consumption, combined in the WLTP cycle: 9.9 – 9.7 litres/100 km [28.5 – 29.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined in the WLTP cycle: 223 – 219 g/km; fuel consumption, combined according to Pkw-EnVKV: 9.9 – 9.8 litres/100 km [28.5 – 28.8 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined according to Pkw-EnVKV: 223 – 221 g/km; CO₂ class according to Pkw-EnVKV: G) models to their limits in the virtual world.

ApeFest attendees were also treated to the sight of a heavily modified BMW M2 Ice Racer. It was on display in the Convento Do Beato, the main exhibition area of ApeFest, where this ambassador of the BMW M Driving Experience’s ultra-exclusive winter programme attracted a great deal of attention. The highlight event at the BMW Group’s winter test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden combines drift training on ice with an individually tailored programme of accompanying activities and can be booked exclusively by members of the BAYC community.

The fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, electric power consumption and operating range figures are determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable. They refer to vehicles in the German market. Where a range is shown, the figures take into account the impact of any optional extras.

All values were calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP values are taken as the basis for determining vehicle-related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO₂ emissions as well as eligibility for any applicable vehicle-specific subsidies. The progressive character of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is evident in the area of digitalisation, too. The user experience in the redesigned interior is defined by the new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and a wide range of digital services and in-car gaming based on BMW Operating System 9.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé will be produced at the BMW Group’s plant in Leipzig, with the market launch starting in March 2025.

Sporty elegance in the hallmark style of the BMW brand.

The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is defined by an expressive front section, a dynamically elongated silhouette and a powerfully designed rear. This conveys even more clearly the sporty elegance that is so characteristic of a BMW Gran Coupé.

The wide BMW radiator grille positioned below the headlights featuring an innovative structure of vertical and diagonal bars inside and the large lower air inlet give the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé a low-slung, road-hugging appearance.

The standard LED headlights comprise vertical elements for the daytime running lights and turn indicators. Adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam, cornering light function and blue accentuations are available as an option. The BMW Iconic Glow option including contour line lighting for the BMW radiator grille will be available from March 2025.

The side view is defined by the long bonnet, short overhangs and a gently flowing roofline. A pronounced indentation in the transition to the rear emphasises the athletically shaped shoulder section. At the rear of the elegantly elongated side window graphic, a discreetly embossed number 2 highlights the characteristic Hofmeister kink. The rear derives its powerful, modern appearance from an especially ample surface structure broken up by just a few lines, flat lights with a striking notch, and invisibly integrated exhaust tailpipes (exception: BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé). Further accentuations for refined dynamic performance are provided by the M Sport package and the M Sport package Pro.

The range of exterior finishes includes two solid and seven metallic finishes, along with four BMW Individual finishes and a choice of numerous BMW Individual special finishes. A contrasting high-gloss black finish is available for the roof.

The new edition of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has been increased in length by 20 millimetres to 4 546 millimetres, while the wheelbase measures 2 670 millimetres. The width of the vehicle is 1 800 millimetres, and the height has been increased by 25 millimetres to 1 445 millimetres.

Leather-free interior in a high-class premium ambience.

The newly designed interior of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is entirely leather-free as standard. The Veganza/Alcantara trim is available as an option, combined with hand-sewn contrasting seams for the instrument panel. The dynamically backlit interior trims made of milled aluminium likewise contribute to the car’s refined and athletic premium ambience. BMW Curved Display and the newly designed gear selector underline the progressive character of the interior.

Newly designed seats provide a high level of comfort on long journeys. Optional sports seats are offered in Econeer, while M sports seats are also available. There are seat heating and electrically operated adjustment options for all versions. The sports seats can also be optionally combined with a massage function, while a lumbar support is available for the M Sport seats. The standard sports steering wheel can be exchanged for an M leather steering wheel, which has also been redesigned. This is part of the M Sport package and features shift paddles for manual gear changes. An interaction airbag between the driver and front passenger now contributes to optimised occupant protection as standard. The rear seat backrest offers a 40: 20: 40 split as standard, while the storage volume is 430 litres (BMW 220 Gran Coupé, BMW 220d Gran Coupé: 360 litres).

Top model with racing DNA and outstanding performance.

The BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption according to WLTP: 8.2 l/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions according to WLTP: 185 g/km; CO₂ class: G) is at the top of the model range and features significantly enhanced performance characteristics. Powered by a 221 kW/300 hp 4-cylinder engine, the BMW M performance automobile accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. An M Technology package for racetrack-oriented performance, including additional lightweight construction measures, 19-inch forged M light-alloy wheels and an M compound brake system offering particularly high deceleration performance, is also offered exclusively for the new BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé.

M Sport Package with adaptive M suspension and sport steering.

A standard feature of the new BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé offered as part of the optional M Sport package for all other model variants, the adaptive M suspension enhances both agility and long-distance comfort by means of variable, mechanically controlled and frequency-selective shock absorbers. Pressure peaks within the shock absorbers are smoothed out by means of additional valves acting on the traction side. With the Adaptive M suspension, the vehicle is lowered by up to 8 millimetres and also includes sports steering.

New generation of engines, 7-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.

In addition, the drive portfolio for the market launch includes advanced 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with 125 kW/170 hp in the new BMW 220 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption according to WLTP: 5.8 l/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions according to WLTP: 131 g/km; CO₂ class: D) and 120 kW/163 hp in the new BMW 220d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption according to WLTP: 4.6 l/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions according to WLTP: 121 g/km; CO₂ class: D) and 110 kW/150 hp in the new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption according to WLTP: 5.0 l/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions according to WLTP: 132 g/km; CO₂ class: D). All engines transfer their power to the road as standard via a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The drives of the BMW 220 Gran Coupé and the BMW 220d Gran Coupé are electrified with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

Improved body rigidity, further developed chassis.

The increased rigidity of the body structure and chassis connections helps the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé achieve improved agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics. The further refinement of the chassis includes optimised kinematics and new shock absorber technology. The increased caster offset of the front wheels ensures stable straight-line driving and optimised steering feedback.

Standard features also include directly controlled wheel slip limitation, an integrated braking system and 17-inch light alloy wheels (BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé: 18-inch). The M Sport package includes Adaptive M suspension with a lowered suspension, sports steering and 18-inch light alloy wheels. Optional extras include light alloy wheels up to 19 inches in diameter and an M Sport brake system.

Modern systems for partially automated driving and parking.

The standard and optional driver assistance systems available for the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé set standards among the competition in terms of functional range and reliability. Standard features include the Driving Assistant with front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, exit warning and Speed Limit Info, as well as the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

Optional highlights include the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, the automatic Speed Limit Assist and a route speed control when using Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. Parking Assistant Professional is likewise available for the models BMW 220 Gran Coupé and BMW 220d Gran Coupé: This allows drivers to control parking manoeuvres from outside their vehicle using a smartphone and the My BMW app.

Extensive standard equipment and high-quality options.

The significantly expanded range of standard equipment for the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé also includes BMW Live Cockpit Plus featuring the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. New optional equipment packages allow for targeted customisation. For example the Innovation package includes BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Head-Up Display and Augmented View on the Control Display, as well as Parking Assistant Plus.

Components of the Premium package are the telephony option with wireless charging, Comfort Access, logo projection from the exterior mirrors, automatically dimming interior mirror and Adaptive LED Headlights. The programme of optional extras also includes a 2-zone automatic air conditioning, a panoramic glass sunroof and the harman/kardon hi-fi speaker system.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Digital Premium.

The BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 9 is available in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé for intuitive and convenient operation of vehicle functions. QuickSelect enables all the main vehicle functions to be accessed directly without having to switch to a submenu. This means that the cockpit of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is consistently designed for multimodal operation using touch functions, voice control and multifunction buttons on the steering wheel.

Meanwhile the BMW ConnectedDrive upgrades enable customers to add selected vehicle functions for a specific period of time. The new BMW Digital Premium is also available for the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. This offers country-specific entertainment services such as music and video streaming, news and gaming, additional My Modes, and also advanced navigation functions such as Satellite View and 3D building display, as well as the new Curve-Ahead View in conjunction with the BMW Head-Up Display.

Remote software upgrades allow free quality enhancements and additional functions to be downloaded to the vehicle “over the air”. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available as standard. With BMW ID and My BMW app, users can personalise their user experience, while with the optional BMW Digital Key Plus, compatible smartphones and smart watches can take on the function of the vehicle key.

All the model variants, equipment levels, technical specifications, consumption and emission values described correspond to what is available on the automotive market in Germany. Dimensions refer to a vehicle fitted with basic equipment in Germany, depending on the selected wheel and tyre size as well as selected optional equipment. These may change according to how the car is configured.

Official figures for fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions and power consumption were measured using the stipulated method and comply with Regulation VO (EC) 715/2007 as amended. Where a range is shown, the WLTP figures take into account the impact of any optional extras.

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is a unique vehicle concept in the compact segment, combining extroverted sportiness, perfectly controllable dynamics and progressive premium features. The two-door model is now even more attractive thanks to a detailed, modified design, extended standard equipment and consistent digitalisation. All model variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé come with the M Sport Package and additional comfort features as standard. Its range of engines includes highly efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, which transmit their power to the road via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and classic rear-wheel drive, as well as an in-line six-cylinder engine in the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, which is unique in the competitive environment (fuel consumption, combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions, combined: 200 – 185 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ class: G).

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé will be launched on the market in August 2024. It will be manufactured at the BMW Group plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, where the new BMW 3 Series Sedan with combustion engine and plug-in hybrid drive is also built. The plant, which was opened in 2019, features particularly efficient and sustainable production processes.

Fresh design highlights, M Sport Package now standard.

The dimensions, body structure, drive concept and chassis technology of the BMW 2 Series Coupé are designed to convey the brand's hallmark driving pleasure in a particularly concentrated form. The distinctive front end with individual round headlamps, the horizontal BMW radiator grille and the power dome on the long bonnet, the athletically modelled surfaces of the side view, the wide wheel arches and the short luggage compartment lid that ends in a striking air scoop give the BMW 2 Series Coupé an unmistakable appearance. With the design features of the M Sport Package now fitted as standard, the new edition of the compact two-door model expresses its dynamic character even more intensively. The M specific design includes extra-large air intakes at the front of the vehicle, powerful side skirts and a striking rear apron with vertical reflectors and a diffuser-like insert.

At the front of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the surround of the BMW radiator grille is now finished in pearlescent chrome. The side skirts and the lower part of the rear apron are no longer painted in black, but in the colour of the vehicle. The diffuser insert is finished in high-gloss black for a contrasting effect at the rear.

The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé has its own version of the M specific design features. These optimise the cooling air supply and aerodynamic balance. They include the high-gloss black inserts for the side air intakes, the black spoiler lip on the front apron, the model-specific rear spoiler and the trapezoidal tailpipes on the left and right of the rear apron. The exterior mirror caps of the BMW M automobile is now finished in high-gloss black.

M high-gloss Shadow Line is now also part of the standard equipment for both the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé and all other models. The M Pro Sport Package, available as an option for all variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, complements the dynamic exterior design with M Shadow Line lights, an M rear spoiler in sapphire black and the M high-gloss Shadow Line with extended features. There is also an M sport brake system with red-painted brake callipers and M seatbelts.

New paint finishes and light-alloy wheels.

The paint finishes for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé include two solid colours and seven metallic colours. The two BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic are also available. Fire Red metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic are available for the first time for the two-door model. The Zandvoort Blue solid paint finish is now available exclusively for the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

All model variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé come as standard with 18-inch (BMW M240i xDrive Coupé: 19-inch) M light-alloy wheels: 19-inch) double-spoke M light-alloy wheels with a Bicolour finish. New 19-inch double-spoke M light-alloy wheels are available as optional equipment. They are available either in Jetblack or in a Bicolour finish. The BMW Individual range also includes a choice of new 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and Bicolour finish. All 19-inch light-alloy wheels are combined with mixed tyres.

New touches of sportiness and digitalisation on the interior.

More than ever before, the interior of the BMW 2 Series Coupé offers the ideal ambience for an intense four-seater driving experience. The rear roof line, the high centre console and the harmoniously blended surfaces of the instrument panel and door panels create an enveloping feeling of space. This is further enhanced by the anthracite-coloured headlining, part of the M Sport Package.

The interior modifications also focus on digitalisation. The BMW Curved Display plays an increasingly important role in the intuitive operation
of the vehicle's functions. The fully digital display system comprises a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. It serves as a platform for the further developed BMW iDrive with QuickSelect based on the BMW Operating System 8.5. This means that the automatic air condition functions and, if fitted, the seat and steering wheel heating can be operated by touch on the Control Display or by voice command. This is accompanied by a further reduction in the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit and a corresponding redesign of the instrument panel. New control knobs on the air vents in the centre of the dashboard and on the driver's and passenger's side allow the direction of the airflow to be adjusted by turning and tilting.

The standard ambient lighting in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé also includes new waterfall lighting integrated into the covers of the central air vents. The colour and brightness of the waterfall lighting can be adjusted to suit individual preferences, with nine colour worlds to choose from. The individual colour and brightness settings are stored in a profile. They also affect the lighting in the footwell, the storage compartment in the front of the centre console and the contours of the door panels. The range of interior lighting functions also includes an atmospheric welcome and goodbye animation, including a carpet of light in the entrance area and light signals to indicate incoming calls and, optionally, an open door.

New steering wheels, seat surfaces and interior trim.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé comes with an M leather steering wheel as standard. The new version features a steering wheel rim that is flattened at the bottom, precisely modified spokes and discreet centre markings. The sporty ambience of the interior is also underlined by a red centre marker at the 12 o'clock position and contrasting stitching in the colours of BMW M GmbH. Heated sports seats for the driver and front passenger contribute to the intense driving experience in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé as standard. Electrically operated adjustment options including a memory function on the driver's side and a lumbar support are available as optional equipment. The M sport seats, also available as an optional extra, offer a wide range of adjustment options at the touch of a button, as well as lumbar support and partially integrated head restraints. With their bucket seat character and adjustable backrest width, they provide optimum lateral support during dynamic cornering. The contours of the rear seats and their integrated head restraints give them a distinctive individual character.

The new M Performtex black seats are the epitome of progressive sportiness. They come as standard in all model versions of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. This innovative velour upholstery combines high-quality materials and a sporty design with low weight and a production process optimised for sustainability. The optional perforated Sensatec upholstery is now available in black and cognac as well as the new Tacora Red version with decorative quilting. The new black version of the Vernasca leather trim with red accents is also available as an option.

The range of optional interior trims for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé also includes some attractive additions. As an alternative to the standard Rhombus anthracite aluminium finish, the fine wood finishes Fineline light open-pore and Ash grey-blue open-pore as well as the M Carbon Fibre interior trims are now available. Additional options for customising the premium ambience of the interior in an even more exclusive way are offered by further new special equipment. “CraftedClarity” glass applications give the gear selector, the BMW Controller and the start/stop button a particularly high-quality look and feel.

Powerful and efficient engines, M Sport suspension as standard.

The drive portfolio of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé with the 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder engine at the top of the range has a unique position in the competitive environment. With the help of intelligent all-wheel drive, the 275 kW/374 hp engine delivers its power to the road in a particularly confident and dynamic manner, accelerating the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds.

In addition to the in-line six-cylinder engine of the BMW M model, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is available with a choice of three further four-cylinder petrol engines and one 2.0-litre diesel engine. The entry-level model is the new BMW 218i Coupé (fuel consumption, combined:
7.1 – 6.5 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions, combined: 160 – 147 g/ km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: F – E), which is powered by a 115 kW/156 hp petrol engine and accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.7 seconds.

Then come the new BMW 220i Coupé (fuel consumption, combined: 6.9 – 6.4 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions, combined: 158 – 145 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: F – E) with 135 kW/184 hp and an acceleration of 7.5 seconds and the new BMW 230i Coupé (fuel consumption, combined: 7.1 – 6.6 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions, combined: 162 – 150 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: F – E), whose maximum output of 180 kW/245 hp enables the standard sprint in 5.9 seconds.

The diesel engine of the new BMW 220d Coupé offers a special combination of pulling power and efficiency in a sporty two-door model (fuel consumption, combined: 5.4 – 4.9 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions, combined: 141 – 129 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: E – D). It generates a maximum power output of 140 kW/190 hp and is combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. Its starter generator, which is integrated into the belt drive, supports the combustion engine with an additional output of 8 kW/11 hp. This enables the new BMW 220d Coupé to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds.

All engines are combined with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The new version of the compact two-door model is not only available as standard in the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, but also in the BMW 230i Coupé, the BMW 220i Coupé and the BMW 220d Coupé in the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission version. This version of the automatic transmission is available as an option for the new BMW 218i Coupé. It enhances the sporty driving experience with enhanced shift dynamics and steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.
The Sprint function is also available for particularly dynamic acceleration. As soon as the driver pulls the left steering wheel shift paddle for at least one second, the car downshifts to the lowest available gear. At the same time, the SPORT driving experience mode is activated with the appropriate settings for all drive and suspension systems. This mode change is now also visualised by the corresponding graphics on the Information Display.

The M Sport suspension, which is fitted as standard in the four-cylinder models of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, provides a noticeable increase in agility and cornering dynamics with its firm suspension set-up and stroke-dependent shock absorbers. This is complemented by a variable sport steering system with a steering angle-dependent ratio. The new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé is optionally available with Adaptive M Chassis including variable sport steering. Its electronically controlled shock absorbers offer three characteristic maps, which can be activated according to the selected driving experience mode. The BMW M automobile is equipped as standard with an M sport differential in the final drive and an M sport brake system, which is also available as an option for the other model variants.

Intuitive operation, innovative digital services: BMW Operating System 8.5 and BMW iDrive with QuickSelect.

In the new version of the BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW Operating System 8.5 provides the basis for particularly intuitive and convenient operation via the enhanced BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and the use of innovative digital services. The system is now even more consistent and can be operated using the touch function on the Control Display and natural language via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The current version of BMW iDrive features a new home screen that permanently displays the map view of the navigation system or another individually selectable display on a large surface. On the driver's side, widgets are displayed at the same level in a vertical bar and can be selected directly using the QuickSelect shortcut without having to switch to a submenu. The new, flat menu structure makes it much easier to navigate between the various functions and helps the driver of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé to concentrate on the traffic situation.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can now be operated in Swedish, Polish and Dutch. There is now a choice of two visualisations for the digital companion on the Control Display. Additional graphic symbols are also displayed there in response to selected voice commands.

The BMW Maps navigation system, which comes as standard in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé as part of the BMW Live Cockpit Plus, is based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and offers even easier destination entry, additional information while driving and further optimisations for fast and precise route guidance. In conjunction with the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional, the full-colour BMW Head-Up Display is supplemented by the Augmented View function. It enhances the navigation system's map display with contextual, real-time information. A live video stream from the driver's point of view is shown on the Control Display or the Information Display and supplemented with currently relevant information such as directional arrows for precise route guidance.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé also makes it easier to link the vehicle to the customer's BMW ID and the My BMW App. Customers can use the BMW ID to pay parking fees digitally directly in the vehicle in many European countries. A personal eSIM can be activated in the vehicle as standard. It uses the 5G mobile phone standard and allows customers to use the communication and networking features of their mobile phone contract in the vehicle - even if they do not have their smartphone with them. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is available is also standard.

Significantly expanded standard equipment, targeted individualisation.

In addition to the contents of the M Sport Package, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé offers a wide range of additional standard equipment to enhance driving pleasure. This includes heated front seats, the exterior mirror package and the alarm system. The new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé is also equipped with sun protection glazing as standard.

The range of standard systems available for semi-automated driving and parking has also been extended. In the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the Parking Assistant takes over all acceleration, braking, steering and gear shifting tasks during parking manoeuvres. Its range of functions also includes Park Distance Control with front and rear sensors as well as the Reversing Assistant. Other standard features include front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, Cruise Control with braking function and Speed Limit Info, which recognises traffic signs and includes a no-overtaking display.

Optional systems include Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Parking Assistant Plus. The range of optional equipment also includes the High-beam Assistant, the BMW Drive Recorder, an electrically operated glass sunroof, a towbar with detachable ball head, the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System and accent surfaces in the door trim in the colours of BMW M GmbH.

New equipment packages are available for targeted individualisation. For the first time, a Premium Package is available for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, which includes Comfort Access, adaptive LED headlights and a wireless charging tray for wireless charging of suitable smartphones. The new Innovation Package now includes the Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant Plus options as well as the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Head-Up Display.

The range also includes the model-specific M Technology Package for the BMW M240i Coupé. With an optimised cooling system for the engine and charge air cooling, as well as larger brake discs for the M sport brake system, it creates the ideal conditions for a thrilling performance experience on the race track.

Munich. With a brace of victories in the “Best Cars” competition, BMW has backed up its successful end to 2023 with a similarly fruitful beginning to 2024. The BMW 2 Series Coupé wrapped up class victory in the compact segment for the third time in succession, while the BMW X1 led the way in the “compact SUV” category. The “Best Cars” award – voted on by readers of German motoring magazine “auto, motor und sport” and in its 48th edition this year – is one of the most prestigious in the European automotive industry. Almost 100,000 respondents took part in the survey, selecting one overall winner and one “imported car” champion from a field of 455 models across 13 vehicle categories.

The start of 2024 was also marked by class victory for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan in the “Large Car” category of the “Women's Worldwide Car of the Year” award. 75 female automotive journalists from 52 countries picked out their favourites from a total of 62 vehicles in five categories. Intended to showcase the influence of women in the automotive industry and presented for the 14th time this year, this prize takes into account factors such as safety, quality, price, design, ride comfort, everyday usability and environmental impact. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan won over the jury members with its electrified drive system line-up (including the fully electric BMW i5), as well as its spaciousness, advanced technology and now fully vegan interior.

This successful beginning to the year saw BMW building on its run of success in a large number of awards in 2023. Models from the premium brand’s current range claimed numerous prizes in both its home market of Germany and its most important sales regions internationally. The winners stretched across all the relevant categories, with compact models, luxury vehicles and high-performance sports cars from BMW M GmbH all making waves. As well as vehicles powered by combustion engines, the readers and juries also recognised a strikingly high number of representatives from BMW’s constantly expanding electric mobility range.

“We’re very proud that our various BMW vehicles have won awards in so many national and international competitions. Newcomer to the ranks of high-performance models and a fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle both win a “Golden Steering Wheel”.

The “Golden Steering Wheel” presented by German publications “Auto Bild” and “Bild am Sonntag” is one of the most prestigious distinctions in the European car industry. BMW took two of these coveted trophies back to Munich in 2023. The BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 10.4 – 10.1 l/100 km [27.2 – 28.0 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 235 – 229 g/km in the WLTP cycle) ranked first in the “sports cars” category and the fully electric BMW iX1 topped the “compact class”.

Both models added a string of other international awards to their collections over the course of 2023. For example, the first ever BMW M3 Touring – which combines the dynamic prowess of a high-performance car with impressive levels of practicality – was elected sports car of the year in the category for vehicles costing up to 120,000 euros by readers of “Auto Bild Sportscars” magazine. And acclaimed British TV programme “Top Gear” honoured the BMW M GmbH newcomer with the title “All The Car You'll Ever Need” in its “Car of the Year” awards.

The BMW iX1 collected a trio of awards in China, including “All-Electric Premium SUV of the Year”. It also won the French “Automobile Award 2023” in the “Green Tech” category and the “autonis Award” bestowed by readers of “auto, motor und sport” to the year’s most attractive new design.

Fully electric BMW i5 enjoys immediate success around the world.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW i5 also claimed an “autonis” prize. Now also available with a fully electric drive system for the first time, the new edition of the world’s most successful business sedan was also named “Car of the Year” by Portuguese magazine “Frontline”. The BMW i5 was also presented with equivalent awards in Norway and Denmark, both particularly important markets for electric vehicles. Norwegian daily “Dagbladet” teamed up with online portals “DinSide” and “Elbi24” to celebrate the BMW i5. While in Denmark, the i5 fought off competition from six other models to gain the most votes for “Car of the Year” in a final round made up exclusively of fully electric models. The jury of 20 Danish motoring journalists chose the BMW i5 as their winner by a large margin.

Chinese publication “Auto World” crowned the BMW i5 as “Most Anticipated Premium Executive Sedan of the Year”, and the fully electric business sedan also collected three awards in Great Britain: “The Car Expert” put the BMW i5 in top spot in its “Best Large Car Award”, it was named “Premium Car of the Year” in the “2024 Electrifying.com Awards” and the “Comfortable Cruiser” topped its class in Carwow’s “Car of the Year Awards 2024”.

The awards underscore the ability of the new BMW i5 Sedan to win people over with numerous different qualities: from character-rich design, a unique balance between sportiness and comfort, innovative equipment features and progressive digital services to a drive system whose power is matched by its capability over long distances. And it also uses latest-generation BMW eDrive technology to transfer the brand’s signature dynamic ability to the road with zero local emissions. In addition, adaptive recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and cooling the interior, drive system and high-voltage battery help to give the BMW i5 eDrive40 Sedan (electric power consumption, combined: 18.9 – 15.9 kWh/ 100 km in the WLTP cycle) a range of 498 – 582 kilometres (309 – 362 miles) in the WLTP cycle.

BMW’s electric mobility offensive is recognised with awards.

The BMW brand’s fully electric model line-up as a whole enjoyed a successful year worldwide in 2023. As well as the BMW iX1 and BMW i5, this was particularly true of the BMW i7 and BMW i4. In Great Britain alone, these two models were both among the winners in seven awards. Both won the “Auto Express New Car Award” in their respective vehicle classes. The BMW i4 also claimed the “Pocket-lint Award” and “Business Car Award”, and the BMW i7 celebrated success in both the “What Car? Electric Car Awards” and the “What Car? Car of the Year Awards”. The fully electric luxury sedan racked up five prizes in China, too, including the “Car of the Year” distinction from leading online magazine “sohu.com”.

There was also much to celebrate in France and the USA, where the BMW i7 was given the “Best Overall and Best Value” rating from “Money” magazine and praised by “wards auto” magazine for its standout luxury ambience and digital user experience with BMW Theatre Screen in the rear compartment. Renowned US magazine “car and driver” named both the BMW i4 M50 (electric power consumption, combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/ 100 km in the WLTP cycle) and BMW i4 eDrive40 M50 (electric power consumption, combined: 19.1 – 16.1 kWh/ 100 km in the WLTP cycle) among the “Best 10” of 2023.

Top marks and distinctions for the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series ranges, the BMW M2 and the BMW X3.

BMW set the seal on a successful year in Germany with a two-pronged triumph. The BMW 3 Series and BMW X3 closed out 2023 with class victory in the coveted “Auto Trophy”. The BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring, for example, took clear victories in the hotly contested midsize segment of the readers’ survey conducted by German title “Auto Zeitung”, racking up 19.0 per cent of the vote. This was the seventh class win in a row for the 3 Series. Meanwhile, the rugged aura, interior spaciousness and commitment to electrification of the BMW X3 helped it account for 15.3 per cent of the votes cast and therefore the highest points total in the high-volume vehicle segment of “SUVs costing 30,000 – 60,000 euros”.

The BMW 3 Series was a particularly prolific award-winner in Great Britain. In the “Business Car Awards”, the 3 Series won the “Best Premium Car” prize, and it also gained entry to the “Hall of Fame” of “Fleet News” magazine as the “Most Reliable Company Car”. The BMW 3 Series won twice in the “What Car? Used Car Awards”, topping both the “Used Executive Car” category and overall “Used Car of the Year”. And then there was the “Best Used Hybrid Executive Car” distinction for the BMW 330e Sedan (fuel consumption, combined: 1.9 – 1.4 l/100 km [148.7 – 201.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption, combined 20.1 – 18.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions, combined: 43 – 32 g/km in the WLTP cycle). The plug-in hybrid model also tasted success in the USA, where “Money” magazine described it as “Best for Handling”.

Adding to the wave of success enjoyed by the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 4 Series – with its standout sporting appeal – also enriched the brand’s glittering international reputation in the premium midsize segment. The best example of this came in the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible’s showing in the “What Car? Car of the Year Awards” in Great Britain. The closed-roof two-door won the “Coupe of the Year” for the third year in succession in 2023. And this year its open-top sister model also won the “Convertible of the Year” award.

Two other British awards were claimed by the BMW M2. It was voted “Best Performance Car” in “The Car Expert Awards”, and the compact high-performance sports car also took the title of “Performance Car of the Year” in the “Auto Express New Car Awards”.

Munich. New model variants and innovations in the areas of electrification and digitalisation are set to further increase the appeal and diversity of the BMW product range from summer 2023. At the pinnacle of the model portfolio, the arrival of a third variant of the all-electric BMW i7 expands the brand’s offering in the luxury segment. At the same time, the Multi-Contract Plug & Charge and MAX RANGE functions will now be available for all BMW i7 and BMW iX model variants, making electric mobility even more convenient. And from August 2023, customers will have the choice of a second, extremely powerful six-cylinder in-line diesel engine for the new BMW X5 and BMW X6.

The highlight as far as digitalisation is concerned is the introduction of the upgraded BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 8.5 for a large number of current models. The capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be enhanced once again for these models in summer 2023. The new exterior colours and upholstery variants for several of the current models will offer additional scope for customisation. Meanwhile, the M Sport package Pro will be added to the choice of optional extras for the BMW X1 and BMW iX1.

BMW i7 eDrive50: an extra boost for electric mobility in the luxury segment.

It has taken just a few months for the all-electric BMW i7 to establish itself as the epitome of progressive drive technology in the luxury segment worldwide. From July 2023, the new BMW i7 eDrive50 (electric power consumption combined: 20.3 – 19.1 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle) will offer customers another way to enjoy supreme long-distance comfort combined with trailblazing innovations and emission-free driving pleasure. The third model variant in the BMW i7 line-up comes with the latest BMW eDrive technology in the form of a highly integrated electric drive unit delivering maximum output of 335 kW/455 hp and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).

This enables the new BMW i7 eDrive50 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 205 km/h (127 mph). Thanks to its highly efficient electric motor and the outstanding energy density of its high-voltage battery, the new BMW i7 eDrive50 achieves a WLTP-calculated range of 575 – 611 kilometres (357 – 380 miles).

Multi-Contract Plug & Charge and MAX RANGE: new functions for making electric mobility even more convenient.

To coincide with the ongoing expansion of the all-electric model line-up, new functions are being made available for all BMW i7 and BMW iX variants in summer 2023 that will make enjoying locally emission-free driving pleasure even easier and more convenient. The Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function will be added to the BMW Charging portfolio, enabling automatic vehicle authentication at public charging points. The exchange of data between vehicle and charging point does away with the need for a charging card or app. As the amount of electricity fed into the high-voltage battery is also billed automatically, Plug & Charge makes recharging even more straightforward than refuelling conventionally powered vehicles. The BMW Group is the first carmaker in the world to incorporate multi-contract functionality into this new feature. Customers are able to store their individual vehicle electricity contracts from multiple suppliers in digital form in their car, allowing them to use the charging points of these operators with the greatest of ease. The new Multi-Contract Plug & Charge function can be made available via Remote Software Upgrade for all BMW i7 models manufactured since July 2022 and all BMW iX models built since March 2023.

The MAX RANGE function for the electric drive system in the BMW i7 and BMW iX is also new and gives drivers greater flexibility when looking for a public charging station. It is operational in the My Mode Efficient and can be used to increase range by up to 25 per cent by both limiting drive power and top speed and scaling back comfort functions. The MAX RANGE function was mainly devised for situations where drivers are unable to recharge mid-journey as originally planned because, for example, the charging station they were heading for is out of service. Activating the MAX RANGE function extends the range by a comfortable margin for the journey to an alternative charging point for the high-voltage battery. This is achieved by, among other things, limiting the vehicle’s top speed to 90 km/h (56 mph) at the same time as disabling features such as the climate control, seat heating and steering wheel heating. The new MAX RANGE function can be made available via Remote Software Upgrade for all BMW i7 models manufactured since July 2022 and all BMW iX models built since March 2023.

The high-voltage battery in the BMW iX can now also be charged more efficiently thanks to the same upgraded charging software already used in the BMW i7. Here, careful control of the charging rate results in shorter charging times. The new charging software can also be imported into all BMW iX models manufactured since March 2023 via Remote Software Upgrade.

In addition to this, the various digital services offered for charging the high-voltage battery will be enhanced for all electrified BMW models in summer 2023. When searching for charging points in the navigation system, for instance, the entries for several stations within a single charging park will now be combined. In the future, the charging history will also show the total costs for a month and allow charging operations to be filtered by location.

The BMW Maps navigation system will also offer improved functions for calculating a charging-optimised route in the all-electric BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4 and BMW iX1 models. The driver’s preferred minimum charge level for when the vehicle reaches mid-journey stops and the final destination can now be adjusted in increments of five per cent and incorporated into the route planning. In the future, the system will also be able to give preference to charging stations operated by selected providers and exclude others from the route planning at the customer’s request. In addition, the user is given even more detailed information on their selected charging stations, including availability at that moment in time, the connector types supported and payment options, plus the presence of sanitary facilities, food outlets or playgrounds in their vicinity. The new charging-optimised route planning functions can also be retrofitted via Remote Software Upgrade.

Highly efficient and big on torque: the new six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with 48V mild hybrid technology for the BMW X5 and BMW X6.

A second six-cylinder in-line diesel engine will be added to the line-up of drive systems for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 in August 2023. The unit in the new BMW X5 xDrive40d (fuel consumption, combined: 8.4 – 7.3 litres/100 km [33.6 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 221 – 190 g/km in the WLTP cycle) and new BMW X6 xDrive40d (fuel consumption, combined: 8.2 – 7.3 litres/100 km [34.5 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 214 – 191 g/km in the WLTP cycle) is the most powerful diesel variant in the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines.

New steel pistons enable a higher combustion pressure, and the effectiveness of the oil separation process has also been enhanced. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprises a two-stage turbocharging system and a common-rail direct injection system with new solenoid valve injectors. These send the fuel into the combustion chambers with up to 12 injections per power stroke and maximum pressure of 2,500 bar. 48V mild hybrid technology in the form of a crankshaft-driven starter generator integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission gives the 3.0-litre engine even sharper power delivery and increases its efficiency.

The drive system generates maximum output of 259 kW/352 hp and peak torque of 720 Nm (531 lb-ft). The impressive pulling power of the new six-cylinder in-line diesel engine, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and the intelligent all-wheel-drive system join forces to produce potent sprinting ability. The new BMW X5 xDrive40d and new BMW X6 xDrive40d both accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect for further BMW models.

The upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect is being rolled out with BMW Operating System 8.5 across additional models*. The latest generation of BMW iDrive brings a newly designed home screen and QuickSelect functionality to make selecting and operating numerous functions and digital services even more intuitive and comfortable. This also brings an improved menu structure that takes its cues from consumer electronics devices plus a range of new digital services and apps.

By showing the right information in the right place, the new BMW iDrive helps to deliver a focused, assured driving experience. BMW iDrive with QuickSelect also teams up with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and so focuses squarely on operation using the touchscreen and natural language.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with additional skills.

In all BMW models that are equipped with BMW Operating System 8.5 or can be upgraded with the system*, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will gain additional skills from summer 2023. Depending on the vehicle specification and the driving situation, the digital companion will be able to suggest deactivating the speed limiting function, switching to Sport mode or activating the Assisted Driving Modes. Naturally formulated spoken instructions can also be used to adjust the seat position. In fully electric models with the relevant specification, the MAX RANGE function can be activated and the BMW IconicSounds Electric controlled with just a single spoken command.

Added to which, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will now be able to proactively explain previously unused functions to the driver, including storing favourite radio stations and using spoken commands to adjust the air conditioning or the brightness of the BMW Curved Display. The graphic depicting the digital companion during exchanges with the car’s occupants now gains ten additional transformation symbols.

M Sport package Pro now also available for the new BMW X1 and new BMW iX1.

From July 2023, the range of optional equipment available for the new BMW X1 and new BMW iX1 will now include a model-specific M Sport package Pro. This option will be offered as an extension of the M Sport package and helps to shine an even brighter spotlight on the dynamic character of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle.

This new option includes extended M High-gloss Shadowline trim, the M rear spoiler, the M Sport braking system with red or – if desired – dark blue callipers, plus M seat belts. Specifying the optional Adaptive LED Headlights also brings M lights Shadowline.

New for the BMW X1, BMW iX1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: seat surfaces in Veganza perforated.

New upholstery variants available from July 2023 will underscore the premium character inside the new BMW X1, new BMW iX1 and new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Seat surfaces in Veganza perforated trim can be ordered as an option for these models.

This vegan surface material with leather-like properties can be specified in Black, Mocha or Oyster. The M Alcantara/Veganza combination in Black with blue contrast stitching is also available for cars with the M Sport package.

New exterior colours for the BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 2 Series Coupé and BMW M2.

The introduction of new exterior colours for current BMW models gives customers additional scope for individualising the exterior of their car. The BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic will be available for the BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 2 Series Coupé and high-performance BMW M2 (fuel consumption, combined: 9.8 – 9.6 litres/100 km [28.8 – 29.4 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 222 – 218 g/km in the WLTP cycle) from July 2023.

Euro NCAP safety rating: The new BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer receive top 5-star rating.

+++European Consumer Protection Institute awards both premium compact models the top rating. +++New centre airbag reduces the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact. +++New generation of front collision warning can also protect pedestrians and cyclists when making turns.+++

Munich. The independent safety experts at the European consumer protection institute Euro NCAP awarded both the BMW X1 Sports Activity Vehicle and the modern all-rounder in the premium compact segment, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the highest rating of five stars. In the demanding test procedure, both vehicles impressed with outstanding occupant protection in collisions of various types, effective protection for pedestrians and cyclists, and effective accident avoidance systems.

The extensive standard equipment featuring safety-relevant driver assistance systems decisively contributed to the 5-star rating. Above all, the latest generation of front collision warning with braking function provides an additional plus in safety in urban traffic. It can now also detect pedestrians and cyclists approaching parallel to the lane from behind or in front when turning right, effectively helping to avoid a collision with weaker road users. In addition, the new system warns of oncoming traffic when turning left. All of the driver assistance systems used in the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are among the best on the market and impressed the Euro NCAP safety experts with their range of functions and reliable level of response.

The new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer convinced the experts with their innovative systems in the area of passive safety. Both models feature a centre airbag between the driver and front passenger seats as standard. This system, used for the first time in BMW models in the compact segment, was rated to be extremely effective in the test. It is the latest component of the BMW integrated safety concept, which is being advanced constantly and which, in addition to highly resilient support structures and precisely designed deformation paths, also includes a model-specific combination of precisely coordinated restraint systems.

In various collision tests, this integrated safety concept proved to guarantee a high level of protection against injury at all times in both models, regardless of the size and seating position of the occupants.  In both the front and rear seats, the headrests and seats of the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer effectively protect against cervical injuries that can be triggered by a rear-end collision, according to Euro NCAP. In addition, the test experts highlighted the standard equipment featured by both models with the intelligent emergency call and an emergency braking system for avoiding secondary collisions.

To reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians and cyclists, the new BMW X1 and new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer feature active engine compartment lids. In the event of an impact, the engine compartment lids are raised by means of pyrotechnic actuators to create additional deformation space between them and the hard components underneath. The system proved to be reliable and effective at different speeds in the Euro NCAP safety test.

The ratings of the Euro NCAP testing institute are a benchmark for accident safety recognised Europe-wide and the safety level is being raised constantly. Only new vehicles that offer excellent impact protection and are also well equipped with comprehensive and practical technology for accident avoidance receive the highest rating of 5 stars.

All data on mileage, fuel and electricity consumption, CO₂ emissions and electric range are provisional values.

Fuel consumption, CO₂ emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures are already calculated on the basis of the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related levies that are (also) based on CO₂ emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Munich. Just a few weeks after the market launch of the new BMW X1, the fully electric model variant of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) will also be released onto the road for the first time in November 2022. Together with the BMW iX1 xDrive30 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.1 - 16.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ), two plug-in hybrid models and two further variants of the new BMW X1 with conventional combustion engine drive are also being launched.

With additional engines and new optional extras, BMW is also increasing the efficiency and attractiveness of numerous other model series for autumn 2022. These include new entry-level motors and engines for the all-electric BMW i4 and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, an innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as innovations in the field of digitalisation for optimising driving pleasure, comfort and safety.

BMW X1 and BMW iX1: Consistent electrification in new diversity.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the brand's first all-wheel drive electric vehicle in the premium compact segment. With this model, the BMW Group is consistently continuing its model offensive in the field of purely electric mobility and making locally emission-free driving pleasure attractive to broad target groups. Two highly integrated e-drive units on the front and rear axles generate a combined output of 230 kW/313 hp, including a temporary boost. The torque generated by the whole system is 494 Nm. The new BMW iX1 xDrive30 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Its range, determined in the WLTP test cycle, is between 417 and 440 kilometres.

The consistent electrification of the drive portfolio also includes the two plug-in hybrid models BMW X1 xDrive30e (fuel consumption combined: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.9 - 14.7 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 23 - 16 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: and BMW X1 xDrive25e (combined fuel consumption: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.8 - 14.6 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 22 - 15 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: -) as well as two new combustion engine variants with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The plug-in hybrid systems each consist of a highly integrated e-drive unit acting on the rear wheels and a 3-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels via the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch. Fifth-generation lithium-ion high-voltage batteries arranged flat in the vehicle floor with a usable energy content of 14.2 kWh and optimised efficiency through intelligent energy management and adaptive recuperation enable an electric range of 76 to 88 kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive30e and 77 to 92 kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive25e.

The drive system of the new BMW X1 xDrive30e generates an output of up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly delivered by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 130 kW/177 hp). This means that the more powerful of the two plug-in hybrid models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. With a maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric drive with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new BMW X1 xDrive25e takes the car from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Electrification also gives the combustion engines of the new BMW X1 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 - 5.9 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 149 - 133 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) and the new BMW X1 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 - 4.8 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 - 127 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) a higher level of efficiency and a particularly sporty power delivery. Its 48-volt mild hybrid technology consists of an electric motor integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch, which acts as a starter generator and can both relieve and support the combustion engine. In the BMW X1 sDrive20i it is combined with a 3-cylinder petrol engine. This results in a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 115 kW/156 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 280 Nm (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 240 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), taking the car from a standstill to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. A 4-cylinder diesel engine and mild hybrid technology give the BMW X1 xDrive20d a maximum output of 120 kW/163 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 360 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), enabling it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds.

BMW i4 eDrive35: New entry-level engine for the all-electric Gran Coupé.

The BMW i4 model family will be joined by another member in November 2022 as well. The BMW i4 eDrive35 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.7 - 15.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ) is the new entry-level model in the all-electric Gran Coupé range in the premium mid-size segment. The third model variant also features fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. A highly integrated drive unit with 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm powers the rear axle and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds.

The range of the BMW i4 eDrive35 in the statutory WLTP cycle is up to 483 kilometres. Its high-quality standard equipment includes, among other things, the latest-generation BMW iDrive developed on the basis of BMW Operating System 8, including BMW Curved Display and BMW Live Cockpit Plus including BMW Maps navigation system.

BMW 216i Active Tourer: New entry-level engine for the compact all-rounder.

A new entry-level engine will also enrich the model range of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in autumn 2022. The new BMW 216i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 – 6.2 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 152 - 140 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) offers a particularly economical way to experience the driving pleasure and versatility of the compact all-rounder. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp and a maximum torque of 230 Nm. The engine's power is delivered to the front wheels via a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard. The new BMW 216i Active Tourer accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

Innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, new gear selector for the BMW iX3.

In order to facilitate individualising the car, BMW bundles attractive optional extras in model-specific packages. From November 2022, an innovation package will be available for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the contents of which will enhance driving pleasure as well as comfort and safety.

The new Innovation Package includes Comfort Access including Digital Key and Welcome, the interior and exterior mirror package as well as automatic air conditioning with 2-zone control and electric seat adjustment including memory function on the driver's side. Adaptive LED headlights and high beam assistant ensue optimised illumination of the road. The BMW Head-Up Display and telephony with wireless charging are also included in the Innovation Package.

There is a substantial design modification regarding the interior of the BMW iX3 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.9 - 18.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ). The all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle of the premium mid-size class will be equipped with a redesigned gear selector on the centre console from January 2023. This means that a control element in the new, reduced interior design from BMW is also available in this model selecting gears.

BMW M Laptimer now as a vehicle app - time measurement also for BMW models with BMW Operating System 7.

Performance becomes measurable thanks to the BMW M Laptimer. The function is now available in Europe, the USA and Canada as a vehicle app in many current BMW models and BMW M automobiles. With the BMW M Laptimer, lap times can be recorded while driving on the race track. The total duration and track length of the ride, the number of laps, the time for the fastest lap and the highest speed achieved are displayed. The system recognises the start and finish line of a lap using recurring GPS coordinates. The length of a measured lap can be between one and 37 kilometres.

The BMW M Laptimer is available as a vehicle app in all models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and the Connected Package Professional option. In the models of the BMW M3/BMW M4 series, the M Laptimer App is part of the optional M Drive Professional equipment. In these models, once the time measurement has been activated, there is a widget in the instrument cluster that shows the current and final lap time. In addition, the BMW Head-Up Display shows both the current lap time and the difference to the fastest lap so far during the course of a recording.

Innovations regarding the Digital Key and Digital Key Plus.

The optional BMW Digital Key and Digital Key Plus can now be shared across platforms between users of iOS and Android devices, including via e-mail or messenger service, for example. Until now, only the Apple iPhone offered the Digital Key Plus, which uses security-optimised ultra-wideband radio technology (UWB) to automatically unlock the BMW iX and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer when you approach them and lock them when you move away. You can simply keep the device in your pocket. From December 2022, this convenient access method will also be possible with Android devices that are equipped with a corresponding UWB chip and are enabled for Digital Key Plus (initially Google Pixel Pro).

The Digital Key Plus also enables additional functions via the My BMW app using UWB technology near vehicles with production dates from November 2022 (an Apple iPhone with iOS 16 operating system is required). The additional functions are displayed in the My BMW app as soon as you approach the vehicle to within about six 6 metres. These include the comfort open/close functions, known from the long press on open/close with the physical vehicle key, as well as the level control for vehicles with air suspension. In the BMW 7 Series, the optional automatic doors can also be operated via the My BMW app within the UWB range. For vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 8 and Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Control Parking can also be controlled via the My BMW app.

Continuous tyre pressure monitoring with notification in the My BMW app, new Digital Art Mode in the BMW 7 Series, BMW iX, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1.

The digital tyre diagnosis system, which comes as standard in many current BMW models, will include an additional function from November 2022. The tyre pressure will be continuously monitored in the future. For example, if a loss of pressure is registered in a parked vehicle, the customer receives a notification via the My BMW app. Continuous tyre pressure monitoring is available in the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, BMW 7 Series and BMW X7.

In the BMW 7 Series, the BMW iX, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW X1, the driving experience, which can be customised with the help of My Modes, will also be enriched with a unique artistic experience from November 2022. The new Digital Art Mode will be available for the first time. The exclusive digital work "Quantum Garden" by Chinese multimedia artist Cao Fei is shown on the vehicle displays.

New functions for the My BMW app.

With the latest update, the range of functions of the My BMW app has been expanded to provide additional usage options. The app now includes a first-mile function that shows customers the route to their vehicle on their smartphone. In future, they will also be able to search for contacts stored on their smartphone in the My BMW app, call up ratings and pictures for so-called points of interest and pay parking fees at a variety of locations. From autumn 2022, the My BMW app will provide users of models with electrified drive systems with specific information in the event of charging irregularities. In future, all functions specially designed for electric mobility can be found more easily via an entry point in the vehicle menu area. 

The new "My Trips" function provides the customer with trip data in the My BMW app. For example, information on the distance travelled, average speed, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions are listed. Drivers of models with electrified drive systems are also informed about the proportion of the route they have driven electrically.

The user interface for the vehicle menu area has also been updated. If the vehicle's air conditioning is activated using the My BMW app, this can be seen on the picture of the vehicle. Information about customer support can be found in the Profile menu area under "Contact us".

Munich. Raised efficiency, an even higher level of individuality and further digitalisation will make the numerous current BMW brand models even more attractive as of summer 2022. The model range of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is being expanded by two plug-in hybrid variants and a diesel model with intelligent all-wheel BMW xDrive. Two additional drive variants each will be offered for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé from July 2022. Newly designed equipment packages make it easier to select options for enhancing driving pleasure and comfort in numerous model series.

The BMW Curved Display will be added to the standard equipment of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the new BMW M3 Sedan in summer 2022. This means that the latest generation of the BMW iDrive multi-sensory vehicle experience based on the BMW Operating System 8 has also found its way into both model series. Further progress in the field of digitalisation is provided by additional functions for the My BMW App, the BMW Maps navigation system and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: Premiere for two plug-in hybrid models and a new diesel engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has already been available with a wide range of drives since it was first launched on the market equipped combustion engines from the current BMW Group Efficient Dynamics generation and the latest version of 48-volt mild hybrid technology. In future, two plug-in hybrid variants of the compact all-rounder will deliver additional efficiency and driving pleasure. The hybrid systems of both models combine a 3-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology which drives the front wheels with an electric motor acting on the rear wheels. Like the high-voltage battery located deep in the vehicle floor, this electric motor originates from the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The resulting hybrid-specific all-wheel drive delivers a very high level of sportiness, driving stability and traction in all driving situations.

The drive of the new BMW 230e xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.9 – 14.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 18 - 14 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) generates an output of up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 130 kW/177 hp). This means that the more powerful of the two plug-in hybrid models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. Its electric range is 82 to 93 kilometres according to WLTP.

With a maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric drive with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.8 – 14.2 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 18 - 14 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. With values between 83 and 92 kilometres according to WLTP, it also has a significantly increased electric range compared to the previous model generation. In addition, the maximum charging capacity has been doubled when using a wallbox or public charging station. It is now 7.4 kWh. This allows the high-voltage batteries of the two plug-in hybrid models to be charged from zero to 100 percent of their capacity within 2.5 hours.

The third new addition to the drive portfolio is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The new BMW 223d xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 5.1 – 4.6 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 - 121 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ), delivers a maximum output of 155 kW/211 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 145 kW/197 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) as well as a maximum torque of 400 Nm (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 400 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm). The electric motor of the mild hybrid system is integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and functions as a crankshaft starter generator. The power of the drive system is transmitted to the road via BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. The BMW 223d xDrive Active Tourer takes 7.3 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h.

BMW 2 Series Coupé: Two new drive variants, BMW Curved Display and shifter paddles on the steering wheel now standard.

A new entry-level engine and another BMW Performance automobile from BMW M GmbH enrich the model range for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. A particularly economical way to experience the distinct driving pleasure of the compact two-door is offered by the new BMW 218 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.5 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 146 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ), which is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine generating a peak output of 115 kW/156 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The new BMW 218i Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

The second new model ranges at the highest level of the performance spectrum. The BMW M240i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.5 – 7.8 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 192 - 177 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) embodies the purist form of driving dynamics typical of the brand in a model of the premium compact segment. A 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine is now also combined with classic rear-wheel drive in this model series. An 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and an M Sport differential in the final drive are also involved in transferring power to the road. This means that the new BMW M240i Coupé reaches the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in 4.7 seconds.

For spontaneous manual intervention in gear selection, the new BMW M automobile features shift paddles on the steering wheel. From summer 2022, these paddles will also be part of the equipment package of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which is standard on all 4-cylinder models of the BMW 2 Series Coupé. The range's powertrain portfolio now includes three 4-cylinder petrol engines and one 4-cylinder diesel engine, as well as the 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder power unit, which now delivers fascinating performance in conjunction with both all-wheel and rear-wheel drive.

Hallmark BMW driver orientation in the cockpit of the BMW 2 Series Coupé has also been rethought. All model variants of the two-door model will be equipped with a BMW Curved Display as standard from July 2022. It consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a Control Display with touch function and a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. This provides a fully digital and high-resolution display network behind a common glass surface curved towards the driver. With the BMW Curved Display and the enhanced capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the user experience in the BMW 2 Series Coupé is now also consistently oriented towards touch and voice control.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé: Sales launch for two more models with inline 6-cylinder engine.

A new BMW M automobile with traditional performance characteristics will also join the model range in the BMW 4 Series in summer 2022. The BMW M440i Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.6 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 185 - 172 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) will thrill drivers with its combination of an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 275 kW/374 hp and mild hybrid technology, an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, classic rear-wheel drive and an M Sport differential. The extremely sporty version of the four-door coupé in the premium mid-size class sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.

In addition, an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine will also be available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé in future. The 3.0 litre drive unit for the new BMW 430d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.5 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 158 - 145 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) generates a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. In this model, too, 48-volt mild hybrid technology enhances both efficiency and spontaneous power delivery. The impressive pulling power of the drive, the 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel drive together enable acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

For all BMW M automobiles of the BMW 4 Series as well as for the all-electric BMW i4 M50 (power consumption combined: 22.5 kWh– 18.0 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ), an M Sport Package Pro is available from July 2022, including an extended M High Gloss Shadow Line, M Shadow Line lights, an M sports brake system with red brake callipers and M seat belts. In addition, the range of paint finishes for the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible is supplemented by the Skyscraper Grey metallic variant.

Specific customisation thanks to new equipment packages.

High-quality options from the range of special equipment available ex works for numerous model series will be combined in new, model-specific configured packages for summer 2022. They enable customers to individualise their cars in specific focus areas. For example, a Travel Package and a Comfort Package are available for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

An Innovation Package and a Comfort Package are offered for the BMW 2 Series Coupé. The choice will be particularly varied for the BMW 1 Series and for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, which will be rolling off the production line from July 2022 with a Premium Package, a Travel Package, an Innovation Package, a Comfort Package and a Comfort Package Professional, as well as an M Sport Pro model.

New options for BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, BMW X5 and BMW X6, BMW Z4 with extended standard equipment.

An M Sport Package Pro will also be available in future for the BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring and BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo. It is offered as a supplement to the respective model-specific M sports package and includes paddle shifters on the steering wheel for the entry-level models of the BMW 5 Series and an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission for all other models, as well as an extended M high-gloss Shadow Line, an M sports brake system with red brake callipers and M seat belts. The BMW 5 Series models also receive the M Shadow Line lights, while the BMW 5 Series Sedan also features a black M rear spoiler. New to the range of paint finishes is the Skyscraper Grey metallic variant, while the new Arctic Race Blue metallic paint finish is also available for the BMW 5 Series.

The models in the BMW X5 and BMW X6 series will feature Sensafin decor-quilted interior trim as standard from summer 2022. The newly developed surfaces are available in five colour variants and have leather-like properties as well as a further refined look and feel.

Extended standard equipment makes the BMW Z4 even more appealing. The Roadster now already features the BMW Live Cockpit Professional as standard. It includes a fully digital instrument cluster and a Control Display with a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches each, as well as the Connected Package Professional.

BMW Curved Display and Innovation Package for the BMW M3 Sedan, M Graphics for the BMW M4 Coupé.

BMW Operating System 8 and the latest generation of BMW iDrive, including BMW Curved Display, will also be standard equipment for BMW M3 Sedan models from July 2022. The four-door high-performance sports car can also be optionally equipped with an Innovation Package, a Wireless Charging Tray for suitable smartphones, a Personal eSim, an instrument panel in Sensatec finish and M interior trims in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite. The BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Pure Grey metallic is also available as a new colour.

A further way of highlighting the performance character of the BMW M4 Coupé models even more intensively is provided by the new M graphics for the engine compartment and luggage compartment lides. The contour lines in high-gloss black and the BMW M GmbH brand logo on the engine compartment give the exterior of the vehicles a particularly expressive touch.

My BMW App, BMW Maps navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended functions.

Driving pleasure and comfort are enhanced in all models already equipped with BMW Operating System 8 thanks to new digital services. As of summer 2022, both the BMW Maps navigation system and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will feature new functions and enhanced capabilities. In addition to new map displays, the navigation system offers proactive traffic information on frequently used routes even when the route guidance is not activated. Calculating a charging-optimised route for all-electric models is now around four times faster than before. The driver receives more detailed information about the route and the planned charging stops, and can also specify the desired state of charge when reaching the destination. In order to make charging the high-voltage battery more convenient at public charging stations, the functions of the BMW Charging App will also be integrated into the My BMW App in future. In addition to logging the vehicle in at the charging station, this also allows the charging cable to be unlocked via the My BMW app, among other things.

In future,a further developed charging software for purely electrically driven models will enable the storage of charging profiles for frequently used power sources. In order to increase efficiency when charging, your high-voltage battery can be preheated to an optimal temperature for fast charging with direct current while still on the road. Up to now, this preconditioning has been carried out automatically if the route planned by the navigation system includes a stopover at a fast-charging station. In future, preheating of the battery can be activated manually by the driver even when the navigation system has not been programmed with a route.

The registration process for the ConnectedDrive Account will be simplified from July 2022. In conjunction with BMW Operating System 8, it is no longer necessary to manually enter the 17-digit vehicle identification number to register a new vehicle. In the cockpit of BMW M cars, the BMW Operating System 8 will feature an M specific user interface in future. In the BMW iX and the BMW i4, the additional Augmented View display, which can be used with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, is also shown in the Information Display.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, in conjunction with the BMW Operating System 8, will feature even more advanced capabilities as of summer 2022. The digital companion and vehicle expert can proactively make contextual suggestions to the driver on how to use functions. In future, these will also relate to Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Parking Assistant, the eDrive Zone service and the option to test additional functions from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. In addition, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant provides the driver with explanations of numerous other functions of his vehicle that he has not used so far.

Munich. The introduction of two distinctive new model characters is set to provide an ideal gateway into the world of the BMW brand. The BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé bring signature BMW driving pleasure to the premium compact segment, and now this can be combined with even more eye-catching visuals. The new Edition ColorVision package introduces targeted upgrades for the sporting appeal of both models in terms of both their driving characteristics and their appearance. It is based on the equipment features in the respective M Sport models and contains additions including a metallic paint finish and exclusive bi-colour leather trim. The Edition ColorVision will be available for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2022.

With its exclusive design and equipment features, the Edition ColorVision shines a particularly bright spotlight on the unmistakable attributes of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé – their elegantly sporty exterior design, their agile driving properties and the sophisticated premium ambience of their interiors. The vibrant character of the two models is focused on driving pleasure, and this is clearly accentuated by the features of M Sport specification. A large, three-section lower air intake in the front apron, a dark diffuser element and vertically arranged air outlets in the rear apron, and M High-gloss Shadowline create a powerful overall appearance. The 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and Black/Silver bi-colour finish available exclusively for the special-edition cars add another exclusive accent.

Elsewhere, BMW M 50 Jahre emblems can be ordered for the bonnet, boot lid and wheel hubs as a no-cost option, while M Sport suspension with a 10-millimetre drop in ride height and M sport steering optimise the dynamic potential of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Like the M Sport models, Edition ColorVision specification also includes a metallic paint finish. Eight expressive exterior shades are available for both the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. In addition, BMW Individual paint finishes can be ordered as an option, among them the matt variant Frozen Pure Grey metallic. At BMW Group Plant Leipzig, where both the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé are produced, the special-edition cars can also be finished in one of 50 exceptionally distinctive BMW M colours. Particularly style-defining and historically significant paint shades such as Dakar Yellow, Daytona Violet and Macao Blue have been re-issued for the 50-year anniversary of BMW M GmbH.

The special-edition models also bring colour into play for the interior. An exclusive element of their specification is bi-colour Dakota leather trim, which can be ordered in the colour combinations Black/Magma Red and Black/White, adds an embroidered “Edition” badge and combines with M Sport seats for the driver and front passenger. These seats come with integral head restraints, high seat bolsters and wide backrest sides to support a dynamic driving style. The M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, anthracite-coloured headliner, M stainless steel pedals and M driver’s footrest also enhance the sporting allure of the interior in the special-edition cars. Parallel to the launch of the new BMW 8 Series, the new BMW M8 model family, the BMW iX M60 (power consumption combined:  24.5 – 21.9 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and the special edition BMW X2 Goldplay, BMW is increasing the appeal of numerous other models with additional drive variants and equipment features as of spring 2022. From March 2022, new model variants will expand the range for the BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. The Parking Assistant Professional, presented for the first time, is optionally available for all model variants of the BMW iX and allows the vehicle to be manoeuvred via smartphone. The My BMW app also features additional functions that make charging the high-voltage battery in the purely electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models even more convenient.

New driver assistance systems, which are optionally available in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as well as the BMW X3 and BMW X4 models, provide added comfort. In addition, the range of body finishes, upholstery variants and light-alloy wheels for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW i4, the BMW iX and the BMW M5 (fuel consumption combined: 11.3 – 11.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 259 – 253 g/km according to WLTP) receives further variants. To mark the 50th anniversary of BMW M GmbH, particularly striking "BMW Motorsport" emblems are optionally available for BMW M automobiles in conjunction with an M sports package.

Additional engine variant for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Sheer driving pleasure in the BMW 2 Series Coupé can be experienced in a further variant from March 2022. The fourth engine option for the dynamic two-door model is a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 180 kW/245 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The new drive unit will feature in the BMW 230i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.2 – 6.5 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 163 – 149 g/km according to WLTP) with classic rear-wheel drive. Power delivery and emissions behaviour have been optimised by an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and an advanced turbocharging system for the BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

The new engine is combined with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission as standard. The range of equipment and functions includes gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and Launch Control, which enables the new BMW 230i Coupé to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Among other things, an M sports differential in the final drive is available as an option for the new model variant.

New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer now also with BMW xDrive, additional body finishes and optimised Driving Assistant Plus.

Versatile functionality, hallmark driving pleasure and distinctive dynamic design characterise the second generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, which will also be available with intelligent all-wheel drive from March 2022. The new BMW 223i xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.5 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 160 –  148 g/km according to WLTP) is the fifth model variant of the modern all-rounder in the premium compact segment. Its BMW xDrive system transfers the power of a 4-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology to all four wheels as required. The drive of the new BMW 223i xDrive Active Tourer delivers 160 kW/218 hp, generated jointly by its combustion engine with up to 150 kW/204 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp. The electric auxiliary drive contributes to a particularly spontaneous accelerating response. The new model variant sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The new Piedmont Red metallic body finish will also be available from March 2022 for the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. In addition, the range of functions of the optionally available Driving Assistant Plus has been expanded to include Steering and Lane Guidance Assist. At speeds of up to 180 km/h, the system uses corrective steering interventions to help the driver keep the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in the centre of the lane. The steering assistance also ensures that a suitable distance to lane markings and vehicles on the adjacent lane is maintained when driving through narrow spaces, for example at motorway construction sites. In addition, Driving Assistant Plus includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, including automatic Speed Limit Assist. This is based on the Speed Limit Info system with anticipatory display of speed limits and overtaking bans.

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function now also available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4.

The range of optionally available driver assistance systems will also be extended for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 models as of spring 2022. Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will be available for the Sports Activity Vehicle and the Sports Activity Coupé in the premium mid-size class from April 2022.

Unlike the already standard cruise control with braking function, it not only keeps the desired speed between 30 and 160 km/h constant, but also the distance to vehicles ahead, which can be selected by the driver in four stages. Distance control is carried out by means of a radar sensor integrated into the front bumper and, if necessary, makes the vehicle decelerate to a standstill. The range of functions also includes automatic restarting after short intermediate stops of up to three seconds. In addition, the system offers the driver the option of adopting speed limits registered by the Systems Speed Limit Info traffic sign recognition system as the new desired speed at the touch of a button.

New BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé with further all-wheel-drive variant.

The model range for the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé will include a further variant as of spring 2022. The BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.9 – 7.1 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 180 – 162 g/km according to WLTP) is the third model in the range in which intelligent all-wheel drive delivers particularly superior power transmission. The BMW xDrive system distributes the power generated by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with an output of 180 kW/245 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm to all four wheels as required.

The standard equipment of the new BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupé also includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This combination of engine, transmission and all-wheel drive enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

New equipment options for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and the BMW i4.

In addition to the new drive variant, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé will also offer numerous additional options for customising the exterior and interior from March 2022. These are also available for the all-electric BMW i4 and include new body finishes and leather trims as well as an M Carbon exterior package.

The BMW Individual special paint finishes Brilliant White metallic and Frozen Dark Grey metallic are new to the range of body colours. In addition, the BMW Individual body finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic are also available for the respective BMW M automobiles and in conjunction with the M Sport model. The BMW i4 M50 (power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) for which the M Carbon exterior package was exclusively reserved so far, will also be available for all other model variants of the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé from March 2022, also in conjunction with the M Sport model. It includes surrounds for the air curtains in the front apron, exterior mirror caps, a rear spoiler and diffuser insert trims made of the equally light and striking carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic.

In the interior of the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, customers can select particularly high-quality features with the extended BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in the colour variants Black, Ivory White, Tartufo, Fjord Blue/Black and Fiona Red/Black. For an even more exclusive ambience, the BMW Individual full leather Merino interior, available in the same colours, also includes leather upholstery on the instrument panel. In addition, individual interior design preferences can also be fulfilled from March 2022 onwards thanks to special upholstery from the BMW Individual programme.

Parking Assistant Professional premieres in the BMW iX.

The BMW iX underpins its status as a technology flagship with the premiere of a new and unique system for automated parking. Available from March 2022 for all model variants, Parking Assistant Professional enables particularly convenient parking in automated driving mode.

Using GPS and trajectory data defined by steering movements, the system can store various manoeuvres with a route length of up to 200 metres each. When arriving again at the respective starting point, Parking Assistant Professional can then take over the complete driving task including accelerating, braking, steering and changing between forward and reverse gear. The driver can concentrate on monitoring the surroundings during the automated manoeuvre.

The BMW Individual paint finish Oxid Grey metallic and 22-inch M aerodynamic wheels in Bicolour Titanium Bronze with 3D gloss finish are new to the equipment range for all model variants of the BMW iX.

My BMW App with new functions for convenient charging.

The My BMW App is the universal interface for communication between the driver, the vehicle, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. In spring 2022, its range of functions will be expanded to include digital services from BMW Charging for convenient electric mobility. This makes it even easier for drivers of a BMW model with purely electric or plug-in hybrid drive to find and select public charging stations. The My BMW app shows charging stations and their availability on a map section.

In addition, the My BMW app also makes it easier to use public charging points. Drivers of a BMW iX or a BMW i4 can now start charging the high-voltage battery by scanning a QR code or with just one operating step in the My BMW app.

Individual dynamics: New body finishes for the BMW M5, classic emblems to mark the anniversary of BMW M GmbH.

New and particularly expressive paint finishes will be available for the BMW M5 high-performance sedan as of spring 2022. The exterior of the high-performance model can now also be given an individual look with the body finishes Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect metallic, San Remo Green metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic as well as with the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Deep Grey metallic.

A historic logo also makes a comeback in the BMW M GmbH anniversary year. The classic "BMW Motorsport" emblems for the engine compartment lid, tailgate and wheel hub covers are available on request for all of the brand's performance and high-performance sports cars, as well as for BMW models delivered as an M Sport model or with an M sports package. Their design is based on the logo in the colours blue, purple and red, which was first used in 1973 on the racing cars of BMW Motorsport GmbH, which had been established the year before. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, BMW M GmbH is offering its customers the opportunity to express their passion for racing and their sense of tradition with these historic emblems.

Its uncomplicated functionality, progressive character profile and range of standard equipment – which comfortably exceeds that of the predecessor model and stands out against its rivals – make the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer a particularly attractive proposition for active, lifestyle-oriented target groups. Four model variants with front-wheel drive and outputs ranging from 100 kW/136 hp to 160 kW/218 hp will be available at launch in February 2022. The new model will be built at BMW Group Plant Leipzig and its vehicle architecture is designed to accommodate both combustion engines and electrified drive systems. Two plug-in hybrid models will be added to the line-up a few months after launch.

Design: modern crossover character, striking front end, dynamically stretched proportions.
The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer brings lifestyle attributes and aesthetic sophistication together into a modern crossover character profile. The clean, reduced surface treatment exudes sporting prowess and assured presence. At the front end of the car, these qualities are expressed most prominently by the striking BMW kidney grille, with its increased dimensions, and the slim contours of the headlights. The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer comes as standard with full-LED headlights. Adaptive LED Headlights with cornering light function, non-dazzling matrix high beam, urban lights, a motorway beam pattern and bad weather light are on the options list.

Much more heavily raked A-pillars compared to the predecessor model, a stretched side window graphic, flush-fitting door handles and slim C-pillars also play their part in the new car’s dynamic silhouette. The newly designed door shoulders around the A-pillars create much improved all-round visibility. With its broad shoulders and slim LED light units, the rear of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer cuts a particularly muscular figure. The exhaust tailpipes are integrated into the rear apron out of sight on all model variants.

Depending on the model variant, 16-inch or 17-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted as standard. Light-alloy wheels up to 19 inches in size are available as an option. The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer can also be ordered in Luxury Line trim or with an M Sport package as alternatives to basic specification. Two non-metallic and nine metallic paint finishes are available for the exterior.

Progressive premium ambience and wide-ranging interior functionality.
The size and versatility of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer’s interior are emphasised by the fundamental redesign introduced by the second-generation car. The cabin geometry and a host of details take their cues from the interior concept of the BMW iX technology flagship. This creates a progressive premium ambience, the key features of which include the slim instrument panel, the BMW Curved Display, the “floating” armrest with integrated control panel and an across-the-board reduction in the number of physical control elements.

The space underneath the armrest is used as a storage compartment, while the area in front of it houses generously sized cup holders and a newly designed smartphone slot. The phone remains visible to the driver and front passenger here and can be wirelessly charged as an option.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers occupants in its five seats noticeably better long-distance comfort that of its predecessor. The newly developed, multi-adjustable seats can also be ordered in optional Sensatec perforated or Vernasca leather. Also on the options list are sport seats with prominent bolsters and shoulder areas, electric seat adjustment (including memory function), lumbar support and a massage function. Acoustic comfort and occupant protection have been stepped up too. Indeed, a new interaction airbag between the driver and front passenger is added to the integrated passive safety concept.

An array of storage areas and the multi-adjustable rear seats also contribute to the car’s uncomplicated functionality in everyday use and on longer tips away. With the rear backrests in their cargo position, boot capacity increases by as much as 90 litres. The rear seats can also slide forwards by up to 13 centimetres. This and the 40 : 20 : 40 split/folding rear seat backrests present customers with a load compartment that can be used for a multitude of purposes. Boot capacity is 470 –1,455 litres in the BMW 218i Active Tourer and BMW 218d Active Tourer and 415 – 1,405 litres in the BMW 220i Active Tourer and BMW 223i Active Tourer. Automatic tailgate operation comes as standard, while an electrically operated trailer tow hitch can be ordered as an option.

Two-zone automatic climate control, sports steering wheel and BMW Maps as standard.
The progressive premium character of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is also underscored by its extensive standard specification. Fitted as standard alongside the BMW Maps navigation system are four USB-C ports and a 12V power socket in both the centre console and the boot, intelligent two-zone automatic climate control, a Sport leather steering wheel, a rain sensor with windscreen wiper control and automatic headlight activation, a much larger number of driver assistance systems compared with the predecessor model, and Park Assist with Reversing Assist Camera.

Newly structured equipment packages enable extremely specific individualisation of the car. Customers can order high-quality interior trim strips, as well as Sensatec surfaces for the instrument panel and front door shoulders with eye-catching contrast stitching. Other contributors to the premium feel include a mirror package, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass sunroof and a Harman Kardon Sound System.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: setting the pace in innovative powertrain technology.
The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is also at the vanguard of powertrain technology. The extensively updated combustion engines increase driving pleasure while reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and the latest generation of the seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission – now standard for all model variants – is likewise extremely efficient. A new version of 48V mild hybrid technology is making its debut in the BMW 223i Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 litres/100 km [42.8 – 47.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 149 – 137 g/km in the WLTP test cycle) and BMW 220i Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 6.5 – 5.9 litres/100 km [43.5 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 148 – 133 g/km in the WLTP test cycle). The electric motor integrated into the automatic transmission supplements the combustion engine with a power boost now increased to 14 kW/19 hp.

The new BMW 223i Active Tourer has an output of 160 kW/218 hp (generated jointly by the 150 kW/204 hp combustion engine and 14 kW/19 hp electric drive system), and the BMW 220i Active Tourer develops 125 kW/170 hp (generated jointly by the 115 kW/156 hp combustion engine and the 14 kW/19 hp electric drive system). Also available from launch is the 100 kW/136 hp BMW 218i Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 6.8 – 6.2 litres/100 km [41.5 – 45.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 154 – 140 g/km in the WLTP test cycle).

All the petrol engines feature a new combustion process and a dual injection system. The diesel engine powering the new BMW 218d Active Tourer (fuel consumption: 5.3 – 4.8 litres/100 km [53.3 – 58.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 138 – 125 g/km in the WLTP test cycle) employs low-friction pistons and two-stage turbocharging with increased efficiency. Maximum output is 110 kW/150 hp.

The line-up will expand further in summer 2022 with the addition of two plug-in hybrid models. These will feature fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology for the first time, enhancing dynamism and giving them a significantly longer electric range.

Sportiness and long-distance comfort in perfect harmony.
The chassis technology in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been engineered to deliver the brand’s customary sporting flair combined with impressive levels of ride comfort in every situation. With a body construction that reduces weight while increasing rigidity, a long wheelbase, and wider tracks than its predecessor, the car’s basic design provides the ideal blueprint for the job at hand.

Steering precision and agility have been enhanced by targeted updates for the single-joint spring strut axle at the front and the three-link rear axle. The near-actuator wheel slip limitation function included as standard improves both traction and directional stability. The integrated braking system is another new feature, as is the extra, lift-related damping for the front axle. The optional adaptive M suspension includes frequency-selective damping, sport steering and a 15-millimetre drop in ride height.

A fresh variety of systems for automated driving and parking.
The largest selection of systems for automated driving and parking yet offered for a BMW compact-segment model are available for the new edition of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Standard specification includes Cruise Control with brake function, Lane Departure Warning, the Evasion Assistant and front-collision warning. The latter now also reacts to oncoming traffic when turning left and to pedestrians and cyclists and when turning right (in countries where vehicles drive on the right). The Parking Assistant including Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant also comes as standard. Options include the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, Active Navigation, the exit warning function, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder functions.

Existing functions can be improved or expanded by means of Remote Software Upgrades, and customers can also use Functions on Demand to select and import a range of functions at a later stage, such as Driving Assistant Plus including Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function (availability depends on the hardware fitted in the vehicle and the market conditions).

The new BMW iDrive makes its debut in the premium compact segment.
The new generation of the control/operation system iDrive, included here in a compact-segment model from BMW for the first time, is based on BMW Operating System 8. It links up as standard with the BMW Curved Display – with its state-of-the-art graphics and menu structure – and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with expanded skills range. The BMW Curved Display fully digital screen grouping is formed by a 10.25-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 10.7 inches. The new BMW iDrive is built around intuitive touch control and voice control.

The new My Modes bring together individually selected vehicle settings with the relevant interior experience worlds. The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps can be specified as an option with the Augmented View function on the control display. The interior camera allows those on board to take snapshots during a journey and send them to their smartphone. New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer customers can also make use of a Personal eSIM designed to work with the new 5G mobile technology, as well as the BMW ID for individualisation of the user experience and further improved smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Munich. The sales launch of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 in November 2021 marks the beginning of a new era of purely electric premium mobility. In addition to sustainable driving pleasure, the two new models also offer the latest innovations in the field of driver assistance systems and, with the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system, represent the future of intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. Parallel to this, the BMW model range will also undergo targeted further development in autumn 2021. Additional drive variants and innovations in the areas of design and digital services increase the diversity and attractiveness of the current range.

The model range of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will be expanded by three new drive variants from November 2021. In future, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission will be standard equipment for one additional model variant each of the BMW X1 and the BMW X2. New paint finishes are available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 models. The functional scope of the My BMW App is complemented by further digital services. The BMW i brand is not only setting trends with its two new models. The pioneer of all-electric premium mobility, the BMW i3, will be offered in a limited Unique Forever Edition from November 2021. And in the BMW iX3, a predictive battery heat management system will optimise the way in which DC fast charging stations will be used in the future.

BMW 4 Series Convertible: Two additional BMW M automobiles and a further all-wheel drive model.
The combination of sporty performance and open-air pleasure in a BMW 4 Series model will be enriched even further in autumn 2021. In the new BMW M 440i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 190 - 175 g/km according to WLTP), a 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensures particularly purist driving pleasure by transferring its power to the rear wheels. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential in the final drive also contribute to the thrilling driving dynamics as standard. This is reflected, among other things, by accerlation from 0 - 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

An inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system make the second new BMW M automobile a thrilling open-top drive. With a peak output of 250 kW/340 hp, a maximum torque of 700 Nm and 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the new BMW M440d xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 172 - 157 g/km according to WLTP) has impressive pulling power. 5.0 seconds are sufficient for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential are also standard equipment in this model variant.

In addition, the model range for the open-top four-seater in the premium mid-size segment is expanded to include the new BMW 430i xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 – 7.3 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 183 - 166 g/km according to WLTP). With its 180 kW/245 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and the M sports differential are optionally available for this model.

BMW X1 xDrive18d and BMW X2 xDrive18d now feature 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Driving pleasure and comfort will be enhanced in autumn 2021 as the 8-speed Steptronic transmission is included in further model variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 as standard. The fast and efficient automatic transmission is characterised by a high level of shifting comfort and a particularly favourable internal efficiency. In future, it will also be available as standard with the 110 kW/150 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine of the BMW X1 xDrive18d models (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 142 g/km according to WLTP) and the BMW X2 xDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 142 g/km according to WLTP).

With the new drive combination, both models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. An optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available, operated by paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

New paint finishes for numerous model series.
New paint finishes for numerous current BMW models allow for additional customisation opportunities. The Skyscraper Grey metallic variant will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 from November 2021. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as Aventurine Red metallic for the BMW X3 and the BMW X4.

My BMW App with extended range of functions.
Planning travel routes and transferring them to the car, receiving information about the car’ status and live images from its surroundings, arranging service appointments or receiving news from the brand - the My BMW app makes all this possible on the customer's smartphone. It serves as a universal interface for communication between car and customer, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. The range of functions of the My BMW App will be expanded again in autumn 2021. In future, for example, the images transmitted by the Remote 3D View service will be stored in a gallery, including information about the location and time of the shots. The status of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation is now also clearly displayed in the My BMW app.

In addition, the My BMW app now also provides the driver with comprehensive information on the condition of the vehicle's tyres on his or her smartphone. The so-called digital tyre diagnosis helps to minimise the risk of flat tyres and is available for a wide range of models (currently BMW 1 Series, 2 Series Coupé, 2 Series Gran Coupé, 3 Series, 4 Series, Z4) and for the new i4 and iX models. The individual tyre inflation pressures determined by the tyre pressure control are now also displayed in the My BMW app. In addition, the digital tyre diagnosis, which is unique in the competitive environment, can transfer early signs of a gradual tyre pressure loss or wear to the My BMW app and the vehicle. For this, the BMW back end uses an AI approach to process data from the tyres to create a forecast of the remaining distance of the tyres. In all cases, the customer receives appropriate recommendations for action.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW iX3.
To ensure the fastest and most efficient power feed at DC fast-charging stations, regardless of operating and outside temperatures, the BMW iX3 (combined power consumption: 19.0 - 18.6 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 17.8 - 17.5 kWh/100 km according to NEDC) will be equipped with a pre-heating function for the high-voltage battery from November 2021. At the customer's request, it ensures that the battery is preconditioned while driving to a direct current (DC) charging station. By heating up the high-voltage battery accordingly, the ideal temperature for charging with maximum power is set on arrival. Among other things, the battery temperature, the remaining range and the state of charge of the battery are taken into account.

BMW i3 and BMW i3s in the Unique Forever Edition.
From November 2021, the BMW i3 models (combined electricity consumption: 16.3 - 15.3 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 13.1 kWh/100 km according to NEDC and BMW i3s (combined electricity consumption: 16.6 - 16.3 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 14.6 - 14.0 kWh/100 km according to NEDC) in the Unique Forever Edition. The naming of the new special edition refers to the unique character of the world's first premium automobile designed from the outset for purely electric mobility. The BMW i3 represents a holistic understanding of sustainability not only with its drive system, but also with its particularly lightweight passenger cell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and extensive use of natural and recycled materials in its interior. Eight years after being launched on the market, it is still a globally recognised symbol of locally emission-free urban mobility.

The edition vehicles are characterised by particularly high-grade and exclusive design and equipment features. The two BMW Individual paint finishes, available for the first time for the BMW i3, ensure a stylish appearance. The Aventurine Red metallic variant is combined with an accent in Frozen Grey metallic and the Storm Bay metallic paint finish with an accent in Frozen E-Copper. The interior surfaces of the BMW grille are also finished in the respective accent colour. Other special features include the omission of the trim strip and model lettering on the luggage compartment lid and a black insert for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the Suite equipment world - including the Vernasca Dark Truffle leather combination, the leather instrument panel, the fine wood surface in dark matt oak, the leather steering wheel, the Carum grey roof lining and the ambient lighting - are supplemented by specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the words "Unique Forever", the door trim panels in the area of the exterior mirrors bear the inscription "One of 2,000“.

The Unique Forever Edition models are produced in a limited edition of 2,000 units at the BMW plant in Leipzig. Only electricity generated by the wind turbines on the factory premises is used. 350 of the sustainably manufactured edition vehicles are available for the German market.

San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The BMW Group Plant in San Luis Potosi started the production of the new ##BMW 2 Series Coupé##. The new high-powered sports compact is the brand's first launch fully executed and put into operation in Mexico.

The San Luis Potosi Plant is the newest within the company's global production network. From its design and construction, the Plant was designed to easily adapt to produce different models. In just two years since the Plant began production, it has enhanced operations to include the manufacture of Plug-In Hybrid Electric vehicle and to expand distribution to cover the globe. With an additional investment of $125 million dollars, the facilities were improved to incorporate this second vehicle into its production line.

This has been possible thanks to the great talent of the team in San Luis Potosi. We are proud to be able to exclusively assemble this vehicle in Mexico for the worldwide market. Born in Mexico for the global market

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé is a vehicle focused on dynamic excellence. Its athletic and sophisticated line was conceived by Jose Casas, a Mexican who is today a senior exterior designer for the BMW Group in Munich.

Once the design stage was completed, the BMW Group Development division in Germany jointly collaborated with Production Planning in San Luis Potosi to prepare the new model for the launch in Mexico.

The Purchasing division also played a fundamental role from the beginning of the project in the selection, development and industrialization of local, regional, and global suppliers.

Direct investment and adaptations to the plant

Part of the additional investment was allocated to the expansion of the existing facilities and the acquisition of additional equipment necessary to assemble the new model. This included the installation of a total of 82 new robots in the Body Shop, while the existing robots required new programming to be able to handle parts with different geometries, and to weld, rivet and bolt them together to combine an intelligent mix of materials (steel, high strength steel and aluminum) resulting in a light, yet highly rigid body that delivers the safety, driving dynamics and efficiency that the brand's customers expect.

Together with the Materials Analysis team, the Paint Shop was involved in the launch of two new specific colors for the BMW 2 Series Coupé; Brooklyn Gray and Thundernight Metallic. The latter is a new BMW Group color, exclusively for the Plant in San Luis Potosi.

Finally, a part of the investment was used to train personnel of the assembly area to work with a shorter body, with only two doors, which requires another approach to those already existing in the production line.

The company has announced that the commercialization of this model is scheduled for later this year in North America and early 2022 in Europe.

• New BMW 2 Series Coupé is a modern take on the traditional concept of a compact, performance-focused two-door model that dates back to the BMW 02. Standalone design with maximum differentiation from the compact BMW 1 Series models. Distinctive proportions, wide tracks, optimised aerodynamic properties, excellent body rigidity, intelligent lightweight design, almost perfectly balanced 50 : 50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity create the ideal basis for extremely sporty handling.
• Launch line-up will be spearheaded by a high-performance model from BMW M GmbH: the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp] as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) with a 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and intelligent all-wheel drive. There will also be a choice of four-cylinder petrol and diesel models whose power is transmitted to the rear wheels.
• Powerful proportions set within the classical three-box design, dynamic lines and exclusive details create a very expressive appearance. Exterior length increased by 105 millimetres, width by 64 millimetres and wheelbase by 51 millimetres compared to predecessor model. Vehicle height lowered by 28 millimetres, tracks widened by 54 millimetres at front (BMW M240i xDrive Coupé: +63 millimetres) and 31 millimetres at rear (BMW M240i xDrive Coupé: +35 millimetres).
• Eye-catching front-end design featuring individual headlights in BMW 02 style and a new-look BMW kidney grille. Vertically arranged active air flaps instead of bars. Sporty and graceful silhouette composed of crisp lines and surfaces sculpted for a muscular feel. Pronounced wheel arch flaring gives the rear a powerful look. Compact rear light units with rearranged LED light functions. Distinctive design accents for M Sport specification and BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

The final phase of the series development process for the new edition of the BMW 2 Series Coupé has begun with the dynamic testing and tuning of its drive and suspension systems under racetrack conditions. The two-door compact sports car features numerous hallmark ingredients that are unique in the premium compact segment for achieving a sporty and emotional driving experience, which are carefully coordinated during the test drives. This is what underpins this car’s claim to taking pole position in its class. The unique selling points of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé in the competitive environment include the rear-wheel drive setup, an extremely powerful in-line 6-cylinder engine, the almost 50:50 balanced axle load distribution, an extremely torsionally stiff body and chassis technology consistently designed for agile and dynamic driving behaviour.

Sporty driving pleasure in the tradition of the BMW 2002.
The new BMW 2 Series Coupé, which will be manufactured from late summer 2021, is designed for uncompromising sporty driving pleasure. It continues the tradition of the brand's particularly driver-oriented, compact and powerful two-door models, which have been built since the legendary BMW 2002. In terms of power delivery, traction, cornering dynamics and handling precision, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé meets the needs of particularly discerning customers who are enthusiastic about unadulterated sportiness in a compact premium automobile.

During the development of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the test and tuning drives on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife serve as the ultimate test for wheel suspension, chassis, damping, steering and braking system. In addition, testing on public country roads around Munich and at the BMW Group test site in Maisach ensure that the dynamic driving qualities of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé can also be experienced in everyday traffic and under different road conditions. By extensively testing all drive and chassis systems, the development and test engineers ensure that the engine's performance characteristics go hand in hand with precisely controllable handling in every situation, fascinating cornering dynamics, optimised traction in all weather and road conditions and perfectly balanced ride comfort. At the same time, the car is fine-tuned to optimise self-steering behaviour and the dynamics when building up lateral acceleration forces. The power transmission to the rear wheels, which is unique in the segment of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, is ideally suited to sporty, ambitious cornering including easily controllable drift manoeuvres.

BMW M version at the top of the model range.
The new BMW 2 Series Coupé's focus on maximum driving dynamics in the segment is embodied particularly by the BMW M version at the top of the model range. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé top model (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 186 g/km; provisional value according to WLTP) draws its drive torque from an extremely powerful in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The drive, which is as spontaneously responsive as it is powerfully thrusty, generates a maximum output of 275 kW/374 hp and is combined with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The BMW M model puts its power to the road using the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The system's rear-wheel oriented design ensures hallmark BMW driving pleasure in conjunction with a power distribution that adapts perfectly to adverse road and weather conditions.

The driving dynamics tests also conducted on the Nürburgring, are ideally suited for refining the interaction of the all-wheel-drive system with the M sports differential in the rear-axle transmission. With a fully variable locking effect generated by an electric motor, the differential aids the new BMW 2 Series Coupé in optimising cornering performance with regard to traction and driving stability. The targeted distribution of power between the rear wheels enables significantly higher lateral acceleration and also a noticeable increase in dynamics when accelerating as you come out of bends.

Vehicle concept designed for driving dynamics.
Regardless of the engine, all model variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé benefit from a particularly torsion-resistant body structure. Static torsional stiffness has been increased by around 12 per cent compared to the predecessor model, for example through the use of dynamic driving struts in the rear of the vehicle, which contribute to the exceptionally high agility of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. In addition, the vehicle concept, which is consistently designed for driving dynamics, offers significantly increased track width at the front and rear axles. This effectively reduces body roll and wheel load fluctuations during sporty cornering.

All model variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé are also equipped with stroke-dependent dampers as standard, the fine-tuning of which leads to a noticeably optimised balance between sportiness and ride comfort. They respond sensitively to slight road unevenness and compensate vibrations to optimise comfort. When driving over large bumps, the movements of the body are controlled by correspondingly higher damper forces. An Adaptive M Chassis is offered as an option for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. Its electronically controlled dampers offer the option of activating the appropriate mapping for both sporty and comfort-oriented driving.

Precise steering, optimised aerodynamic properties.
The new BMW 2 Series Coupé is characterised by effortlessly controllable handling even in highly dynamic driving situations. In addition to the powerful and highly controllable brakes, the precise steering also characterises the handling of the two-door model. In addition to the balanced axle load distribution between the front and rear wheels, the model-specific design of the steering and the particularly high connection stiffness of the support bearings on the front axle contribute to this. Available as an option for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, Variable Sports Steering combines further optimised precision when steering into bends with reduced steering effort when parking and manoeuvring.

The body design of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé not only reflects the brand's modern, clear and reduced design language. Only visible at second glance, but immediately noticeable during the high-speed test drives at the Nürburgring, the measures that help optimise the aerodynamic properties of the BMW M car in particular. In addition to a model-specific front spoiler lip, front splitter and air curtains, air deflectors, a tank and a rear axle cover as well as the contours of the air-flow-optimised driving dynamics struts on the underbody ensure that lift on the front axle has been reduced by 50 percent compared to the predecessor model.

Munich. The market launch of the BMW M5 CS is the absolute highlight among the innovations that will enrich the BMW model range in spring 2021. The first special model based on the BMW M5 Competition takes on the top position in the BMW M GmbH range in terms of engine power, performance and exclusivity, underlining the brand's close ties with racing. Model diversity in the premium segment of the compact and mid-size class will be expanded from March 2021 with additional drive variants for the BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. What is more, attractive additions to the standard or optionally available equipment in numerous BMW model series enhance driving pleasure, comfort, individuality and safety.

A feature previously only available for high-performance BMW M GmbH automobiles will also be featured on the most powerful variants of the BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 4 Series Coupé from March 2021. For the first time, an M carbon fibre roof will be offered for the top models of both model series. Exclusive lightweight components also optimise the driving experience in the BMW M8. Newly developed M Carbon bucket seats will be available as an optional extra for the three high-performance models in the luxury segment from March 2021. The luxury sedans of the BMW 7 Series will be equipped with Integral Active Steering as standard. In addition, a nanoparticle filter will now be a new component of the standard or optional 4-zone automatic air conditioning in the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series as well as in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 models. BMW Individual Shadow Line lights complement the equipment range for the BMW X5 and BMW X6. The BMW News app will be added to the range of digital services for selected BMW models from April 2021.

High-performance sedan with exclusive racing characteristics: The BMW M5 CS.
Following the BMW M3 CS, the BMW M4 CS and the BMW M2 CS, a special model of the BMW M5 will be launched for the first time in March 2021. The most powerful and exclusive version of the high-performance sedan bears the name BMW M5 CS (combined fuel consumption: 11.3 - 10.9 l/100 km (WLTP), 11.3 - 11. 1 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 257 - 248 g/km (WLTP), 258 - 253 g/km (NEDC).

The special model is powered by the most powerful engine ever to be used in a BMW M GmbH production vehicle. The V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology generates a maximum output of 467 kW/635 hp and is thus 7 kW/10 hp more powerful than the drive unit in the BMW M5 Competition. Weighing in with 70 kilograms less weight, the BMW M5 CS completes the sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, beating the BMW M5 Competition by 0.3 seconds.

The racetrack potential of the BMW M5 CS also goes hand in hand with unrestricted suitability for everyday use. In addition to design elements for the exterior in Gold Bronze, standard equipment also features M Carbon seats for the driver and front passenger. In the rear of the BMW M5 CS, two passengers can be seated on individual seats and enjoy the outstanding driving experience.

New in the BMW 4 Series: Inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and exclusive optional extras.
The sporty character of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé will be underlined by an additional BMW M automobile and a further model variant with a particularly powerful engine from March 2021. In both cases, an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and intelligent all-wheel drive provide efficient driving pleasure. The new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km (WLTP), 5.7 - 5.3 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 164 - 150 g/km (WLTP), 149 - 140 g/km (NEDC), with its 250 kW/340 hp drive featuring BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology is also combined with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, an M sports package and an M sports differential. Thanks to the outstanding performance of the 3.0-litre engine and its maximum torque of 700 Nm, the new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

With a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp generated from a 3.0 litres of capacity and a maximum torque of 650 Nm, the powerplant of the new BMW 430d xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.2 l/100 km (WLTP), 5.1 - 4.8 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 155 - 137 g/km (WLTP), 134 - 126 g/km (NEDC) also enables dynamic acceleration manoeuvres. It takes just 5.1 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h.

In both inline 6-cylinder diesel models, mild hybrid technology with a 48-volt starter generator provides a further increase in dynamics and efficiency. The system enables particularly intensive energy recovery in braking and thrust phases. The energy is stored in a 48-volt battery and used both for the onboard network and to generate additional drive power. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency.

For both the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and the new BMW 4 Series Convertible, the BMW Individual Brilliant White metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic and BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey metallic exterior paint finishes will also be available from March 2021. The extended BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery or the BMW Individual Merino full leather upholstery will be available in six or four colour variants respectively to ensure exclusive flair in the interior.

Dynamic charisma increased, centre of gravity lowered: M Carbon roof in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.
The new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé, just like the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé and the two corresponding top models of the BMW 3 Series Sedan, will add further touches of sporty flair by means of an exclusive lightweight construction feature. The M Carbon roof, available for these four models from March 2021, emphasises dynamic charisma and at the same time lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity further to make it even more agile.

In future, the new interior trims will be available in the M Carbon Fibre version to match. They will also be available for the BMW M440i xDrive Convertible and for all other model variants of the new BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series, in each case in conjunction with the M Sport Model equipment.

Additional all-wheel drive model variant for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The added traction, driving stability and sportiness associated with intelligent all-wheel drive can be experienced in a further model variant of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from March 2021. The new BMW 220i xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 7.3 - 6.5 l/100 km (WLTP), 6.4 - 6.1 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 165 - 149 g/km (WLTP, 147 - 139 g/km (NEDC), generates 131 kW/178 hp from a 4-cylinder petrol engine, the power being distributed between the front and rear wheels as required. The 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is in charge of power transmission. With this drive technology, the new BMW 220i xDrive Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.

The range of optional extras for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be supplemented by additional light-alloy wheels in spring 2021. 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and bicolour finish are new to the range.

BMW 7 Series now features Integral Active Steering as standard.
The superior ride comfort, cornering dynamics and agility of the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans will be enhanced from March 2021 with the help of Integral Active Steering as standard. This system optimises both agility and superior handling at higher speeds as well as comfort when manoeuvring through precisely controlled steering of the rear wheels. The latest version of the Integral Active Steering system triggers counter-steering of the rear wheels even at a particularly low speed of less than 3 km/h. This further enhances the manoeuvrability of the luxury sedans when parking and backing out, as well as when passing slowly through narrow spaces.

Nanoparticle filter as a new component of the 4-zone automatic air conditioning.
In many current BMW models, a nanoparticle filter will be part of the range of functions of the 4-zone automatic air conditioning. The system, which is unique in the competitive environment, is able to remove tiny impurities from the air flowing into the interior. The 4-zone automatic air conditioning with nanoparticle filter is part of the standard equipment in the BMW X7 and is offered as an option for the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, the BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars and the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models.

BMW Individual Shadow Line lights for the BMW X5 and BMW X6.
The range of optional equipment for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. They are available in conjunction with the optional BMW laser light and feature black inlays on the upper edge of the headlights ensuring a particularly expressive front view.

Pure race-track feeling: M Carbon bucket seats in the BMW M8.
A particularly attractive addition to the range of optional extras for the BMW M8 models allows customers to experience the fascinating performance characteristics of the high-performance sports cars even more intensively. M Carbon bucket seats will be available for the BMW M8 Competition Coupé, the BMW M8 Competition Convertible and the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé from March 2021. With their novel, structure-based design, visible carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) surfaces, integrated headrests, openings in the backrests and side sections as well as guides for multi-point seat belts, they combine racing functionality with long-distance comfort and luxurious quality of workmanship.

The M Carbon bucket seats for the driver and front passenger are electrically adjustable for height, tilt and forward/back positioning. In addition, the inclination and width of their backrests can be adjusted at the touch of a button. They feature leather and alcantara seat surfaces and are also heated. Illuminated "M8" lettering on the headrests and a memory function on the driver's side are also part of the equipment package of the M Carbon bucket seats. Their lightweight construction concept leads to a significant weight reduction compared to the standard M sports seats.

Exclusive special equipment for other BMW M automobiles.
The range of optional extras available for numerous other BMW M automobiles will also be expanded in spring 2021. For the BMW M3 Sedan and the BMW M4 Coupé, the new Skyscraper Grey metallic exterior paint finish and the extended BMW Merino leather upholstery are available in a choice of five additional colour variants.

The BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition models can also be equipped with BMW Individual Shadow Line lights in conjunction with the optional BMW laser light from April 2021. In addition, the optional 4-zone automatic air conditioning will also include a nanoparticle filter in the BMW M8 models.

New addition to the range of digital services: BMW News app.
The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional in numerous current BMW models, enables the use of a growing number of digital services. The latest innovations in this area include the BMW News app, which will be available from April 2021 as part of BMW Connected and provides the driver with selected audio content. This is precisely tailored to the wishes and needs of the driver. Based on the driver’s individual interests, current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

Increased efficiency through consistent electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Active speed control with Stop&Go provides an added comfort and safety thanks to the new additional feature of traffic light recognition, which will be part of the Driving Assistant Professional option in numerous current models from November 2020.

The latest digital services for models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 increase driving pleasure even further. BMW News provides the driver with personalised audio news. New options when creating the driver profile make it easier to personalise the vehicle. The range of functions of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be expanded further. New body finishes and optional extras will be available for numerous models from November 2020.

Efficiency becomes more diverse: World premiere for five plug-in hybrid models in the BMW 5 Series.

The range of BMW models with electrified drive systems will also be consistently expanded in autumn 2020. The expanded range of the following electrified models is especially attractive: BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 53 – 49 g/km; electric range: 47 – 57 km), BMW 530e Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 46 – 42 g/km; electric range: 52 – 57 km (WLTP)) and BMW 530e xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 50 g/km; electric range: 48 – 53 km (WLTP)). The BMW 5 Series model range now already includes five plug-in hybrid variants. In the upper mid-size class, BMW offers the largest selection of models with electrified drive.

In the new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission deliver impressive driving dynamics in a particularly efficient manner. The power of the two drive units adds up to a maximum system output of 290 kW/394 hp and is distributed between the front and rear wheels as required by the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. The brand’s hallmark combination of energy efficiency and sportiness also characterises the new Touring models, whose plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive system also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they generate a system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp in the XtraBoost mode when load requirements are particularly high.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional models, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. This is linked to the introduction of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder diesel engines. As of autumn 2020, four mid-size models of the BMW 3 Series and three luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series will offer noticeably more dynamic performance and increased efficiency.

This twofold and BMW typical progress is achieved through further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and additionally with the aid of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency. The power required for this is generated by intensive recuperation in braking and thrust phases and stored in a 48-volt battery, which also supplies the vehicle’s electrical system.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used in four further BMW 3 Series models from November 2020. In the new BMW 330d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 125 – 116 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 132 – 123 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 119 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 4.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 136 – 127 g/km), it supports the new inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, which already provides additional driving pleasure with its maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp. Thanks to a two-stage turbocharging system and an advanced common rail injection system whose piezo injectors now inject the fuel with up to ten injections per working cycle and a maximum pressure of 2 700 bar into the combustion chambers, engine response and efficiency of the 3.0 litre engine are optimised. The new diesel engine generates its maximum torque, which has been increased by 30 to 650 Nm, between 1 500 and 2 500 rpm. The increased power of the combustion engine and the additional electrical power noticeably improve the car’s sprint capacity. For example, the new BMW 330d Sedan improves its acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds to now 5.3 seconds.

In the BMW 8 Series, 48-volt mild hybrid technology is combined with an equally new and even more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine. The BMW 840d xDrive Coupé models (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 154 - 146 g/km), BMW 840d xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 6.0 – 5.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 151 g/km) and BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 155 - 148 g/km) will be powered by a 250 kW/340 hp inline 6-cylinder engine in the future. The 15 kW/20 hp increase in top-level output also results from further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It now includes a multi-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for the high-pressure and low-pressure stages. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is generated alreadybetween 1 750 and 2 250 rpm. In the luxury sports car model range, the new drive technology enables the BMW 840d xDrive Coupé, for example, to improve its acceleration figure from a standing start to 100 km/h by 0.1 seconds to 4.8 seconds. The optimised performance characteristics of the diesel engine are accompanied by precisely adapted fine tuning of the chassis and its control systems.

The new diesel engines for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 8 Series also represent the latest state of the art with regard to emissions. They feature exhaust gas treatment technology, whose engine-proximate components consist of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. In order to optimally reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, a second metering unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-proximate SCR system.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Additional engines and new optional extras.

New engines will be available from November 2020 for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The new BMW 116i (combined fuel consumption: 5.8 – 5.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 – 124 g/km) is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 80 kW/109 hp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm. It is equipped as standard with a manual 6-speed transmission and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available. In addition, the model range will be expanded to include the new BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 134 – 126 g/km). Its 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum output of 131 kW/178 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm and is combined as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The new BMW 120i accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outstanding economy is the hallmark of the new entry-level diesel engine for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The 3-cylinder diesel engine of the new BMW 216d Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 3.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 108 – 99 g/km) provides a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. It transmits its power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The range of optional equipment for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. With the black inserts at the upper edge of the headlamps they make the front view even more powerfully expressive.

Active speed control with Stop&Go: new with traffic light recognition: Increased comfort and optimised safety in urban traffic.

The comfort and safety gains that can be achieved by combined speed and distance control can be experienced from autumn 2020 in numerous current BMW models, including when driving in urban traffic. In combination with the optional Driving Assistant Professional and the optional BMW Head-Up Display, the BMW 3 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW 5 Series Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series and 8 Series as well as the BMW iX3, BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW M3, BMW M4, BMW M5, BMW M8, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M in Germany the function of active speed control with Stop&Go now also a traffic light recognition available. In addition to vehicles and traffic signs in front, the signals of light signals registered by the front camera are also taken into account.

In the case of simple traffic light systems, these are automatically transferred to the speed and distance control. If the traffic light shows a red light, the system delays the vehicle to a standstill, a green light signal leads to the continuation of the journey. In a more complex intersection situation, the driver is offered the traffic lights for manual transfer in the instrument combination.

The driver can now confirm the light signal shown and thus continue to use the automatic speed and distance control or take control of the speed himself. The start-up reminder provides additional comfort in city traffic. During a stop at simple traffic lights, the current traffic light phase is displayed in the instrument combo, and at the beginning of the green phase, the driver also receives a signal to restart.

The function of traffic light recognition can also be retrofitted into the vehicle via remote software upgrade. With the exception of the BMW 8 Series models, this option is available for vehicles of all mentioned series, which were produced from July 2020 and are equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional and Head Up Display. Vehicles of the BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7 series include this option from August 2020 production.

New digital services for more driving pleasure: BMW News, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with new functions, personal profile picture and simple log-in.

The latest generation of the display and control system makes it possible to use new digital services in numerous current BMW models. The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows the driver to customise what is displayed to a very high degree. From November 2020, audio content will also be tailored to the driver’s wishes and needs with BMW News. Based on the driver’s individual interests, current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is one of the particularly innovative services that features in current models with BMW Operating System 7. The digital companion, which enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”), is constantly gaining new capabilities. From autumn 2020, the operating modes MAX eDrive and AUTO eDrive or ELECTRIC and HYBRID can also be activated in the appropriately equipped plug-in hybrid models by means of a naturally spoken instruction. In addition, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will be able to play back the drive sounds of other BMW models via the audio system when asked a corresponding question such as ("What does a BMW M3 sound like?") in cars delivered to the German market.

Optimised options for creating a driver profile allow further customisation opportunities. From November 2020, the driver can no longer only login by entering the BMW ID manually, but also via the My BMW App as well, making the process very convenient. A QR code generated for this purpose can be displayed on the Control Display, which can be scanned using a smartphone. The personal driver profile data can then be transferred to the vehicle. Also new: The driver can add a photo of his choice to his individual profile.

BMW X1 and BMW X2: New headlamp variants and BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features.

Adaptive LED headlights will be available for the compact BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupé from November 2020. They optimise visibility when driving at night, among other things by means of a high beam matrix function. This feature is able to increase the range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users. To achieve this, the high beam is divided into several LED segments that can be activated and deactivated independently of each other to adapt how the road is illuminated to the respective traffic situation.

In addition, the striking BMW Individual Shadow Line lights are available as a new option for the BMW X2 and the BMW X1. The sporty appearance of the BMW X2 can be further enhanced by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features. In addition to the high-gloss black side window surrounds, this option includes a black frame for the BMW kidney grille and tailpipe trims in chrome black.

New paint finishes allow for expressive individualisation.

New additions to the range of paint finishes for numerous models will be introduced in autumn 2020 allowing for even greater levels of individualisation. The new San Remo Green metallic paint finish will also be available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé in future. For the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, the colours Dravit Grey metallic and Sparkling Brown metallic have been added to the range. In addition, the BMW Individual special paintwork finishes Grigio Telesto metallic, Urban Green metallic, Frozen Black metallic, Petrol Mica metallic, Ruby Red metallic, Avus Blue metallic and British Racing Green metallic are also available for the large BMW X models. 

For the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) new paint finishes will also be available from November 2020. The purely electrically driven models will be available with paint finishes in Cashmere Silver with accents in BMW i Blue and Galvanic Gold with accents in Frozen Grey metallic and Fluid Black with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant. With the optional smartphone integration, numerous current BMW models will enable use of Android Auto in addition to Apple CarPlay as of summer 2020.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. Emergency Lane Assistant is another new function: this automatically guides the vehicle to the ideal edge of its lane in congested situations on motorways. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

Optimised smartphone integration: Android Auto can now also be used in the vehicle in addition to Apple CarPlay.
Depending on the model series, either standard or optional smartphone integration will enable use not just of Apple CarPlay but also of the digital services provided by Android Auto in numerous current BMW models as of summer 2020. This means that owners of a smartphone with the Android operating system can now access their familiar smartphone apps in the vehicle, just like users of an Apple iPhone. These include the digital voice assistant Google Assistant, the map service Google Maps, music streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music, and the messaging service WhatsApp.

The systems are integrated directly in the vehicle's display and control system via a wireless LAN connection between the respective smartphone and the vehicle. Here, the driver can view all the important information from the apps on the Control Display and also navigation directions in the instrument cluster and the optional Head-Up Display.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

Extended Business Package for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, new body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
The Business Package available for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer provides enhanced comfort and driving pleasure in city traffic as well as on lengthier trips. From July 2020 onwards it also includes Real Time Traffic Information. Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

* All new models available from start of production in July or August 2020

Munich. From the spring of 2020, BMW will contribute towards a further reduction of consumption levels and the optimisation of the emission performance of current models through the use of systematically evolved drive technology. In parallel with the expansion of the range of models featuring all-electric and plug-in hybrid drive scheduled to follow during the course of the year, both the efficiency and the exhaust emission quality of petrol-driven vehicles will be significantly increased.  This is ensured, inter alia, by innovative mild hybrid technology which, following the BMW 5 Series, will as from March/April also be deployed in the BMW 3 Series as well as the model series BMW X3 and BMW X4. At the same time, in the spring of 2020, 33 further BMW models will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not become obligatory until 2021.

A further drive variant for the BMW 1 Series as well as additional engines for the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring will enhance the diversity of available options in the premium compact and premium midrange segment. Additional options for interior design provide for greater individuality in the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

Electric pulling power for efficiency and dynamics: Mild hybrid technology with 48-volt starter generator for further models. 

BMW is extending the use of mild hybrid technology to further models. This innovation, first introduced in the autumn of 2019 for the four model variants of the BMW 520d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 108 g/km), comprises an extremely powerful 48-volt starter generator as well as an additional battery, and enhances both efficiency and dynamics of vehicles equipped with this technology. As from the spring of 2020, mild hybrid technology will also be featured as standard in the models BMW 320d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.1 – 4.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 107 – 105 g/km), the BMW 320d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.3 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 109 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.4 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 117 – 114 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 119 – 117 g/km), the BMW X3 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 134 – 126 g/km) and the BMW X4 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 133 – 125 g/km).

Mild hybrid technology provides significantly greater possibilities to make use of brake energy recuperation. The energy recuperated when accelerating and braking is not only used to provide electrically powered vehicle functions with energy but also to generate additional drive power. The 48-volt starter generator delivers an additional power output of up to 8 kW/11 hp. The electric over-boost is made available very spontaneously, thus enhancing dynamics when starting off and accelerating from a standstill.  During the journey, the electric over-boost can be used to support the combustion engine, enabling it to run as frequently as possible within an efficiency-optimised load range and to reduce consumption peaks. Moreover, when driving within inefficient operational ranges, it is possible to supply the 48-volt battery with additional energy from the starter generator by raising the load point when required.

Furthermore, the 48-volt starter generator provides for exceptionally smooth switching off as well as a faster and thus more comfortable re-starting of the combustion engine when the Auto Start Stop function is used at road junctions or in traffic jams. When the vehicle decelerates, the combustion engine can be disconnected at a speed of less than 15 km/h. The kinetic energy gained when decelerating further to a standstill is then used for recuperation. The efficiency-enhancing effect of the “coasting” function has also been optimised. At a speed of up to 160 km/h, the combustion engine is no longer switched into idle mode but is completely disconnected. During the journey, engine re-start is also fast and comfortable. The optimised “coasting” function is available both in the COMFORT and ECO-PRO modes of the Driving Experience Switch.

Optimised emission performance: 40 BMW models now already fulfil the future Euro 6d emission standard.

With yet a further optimisation of the emission performance of numerous models, BMW is preparing well in advance for future legal requirements governing exhaust emissions. As from the spring of 2020, 33 further models from various model series will fulfil the Euro 6d exhaust emission standard. Consequently, 40 BMW models comply with the demands specified by the more stringent standard a year prior to the new emission regulation coming into force.

The vehicles that will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard as from the spring of 2020 include model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 3 Series as well as the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and the BMW X6.

New drive variants for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring.

Starting in March 2020, additional drive variants will increase the diversity of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series model range. The BMW 120d (combined fuel consumption: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 121 – 112 g/km) will be added to the model range in the premium compact segment. The power generated by the car’s 2-litre, 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel power unit featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing the new BMW 120d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 231 km/h. The new BMW 120d is one of the models that already fulfil the Euro 6d emission standard.

A new four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 2 litres and BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology complements the drive portfolio for the new BMW 3 Series. The power unit for the new BMW 318i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.7 – 5.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 130 – 120 g/km) and the new BMW 318i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 140 – 130 g/km) delivers a maximum power output of 115 kW/156 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The standard equipment range for the new BMW 3 Series entry model includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ is 8.4 seconds for the Sedan and 8.7 seconds for the Touring model. Top speed is 223 km/h (BMW 318i Sedan) and 220 km/h (BMW 318i Touring) respectively.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with extended standard configuration, additional offer of leather options and interior trims for the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

From March 2020, a broader range of standard features will enhance comfort in the luxury-class models of the BMW 7 Series and the BMW 8 Series. In future, BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars as well as the high-performance models BMW M8 Competition Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 242 g/km), BMW M8 Competition Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 246 g/km) and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 244 g/km) will be equipped with an automatic soft-close function for the doors.

Thanks to a wider selection of leather options and interior trims, there are now new possibilities to individualise the models BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. As from April, the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Canberra Beige is additionally available for these three models. In the future, the BMW X6 can be ordered with the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Cognac. Likewise available for the Sports Activity Coupe are the extended BMW Individual leather options Merino in the colours Tartufo and Ivory White and the colour combination Ivory White/Night Blue as well as the BMW Individual all-leather interior trim Merino in the colours Coffee and Tartufo. Also new in the range of options for the BMW X6: High-grade Poplar Grain, Anthracite-Brown, open-pored.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. The figures are calculated using a vehicle fitted with basic equipment in Germany, the ranges stated take into account differences in selected wheel and tyre sizes as well as the optional equipment. They may change during configuration.

The figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle and adapted to NEDC for comparison purposes. In these vehicles, different figures than those published here may apply for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions.

The interior of the new BMW 2 Sereis Gran Coupe can also be upgraded with various M Performance Parts. The most distinctive visual detail is the M Performance steering wheel. Its extremely high-grip alcantara handling area features large thumbrests and special underlining. • The world premiere is taking place at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019 and market launch will get underway in March 2020. Prices in Germany will start at €31,950 for the BMW 218i (fuel consumption combined: 5.7 – 5.0 l/100 km [62.8 – 67.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 131 – 114 g/km), €39,900 for the BMW 220d (fuel consumption combined: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km [62.8 – 67.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 119 – 110 g/km) and €51,900 for the range-topping BMW M235i xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.7 l/100 km [39.8 – 42.2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 162 – 153 g/km).
• Standout features include the dynamically stretched silhouette, the four frameless side windows and the rear lights extending well into the centre of the rear end, merging into a High-gloss Black band that runs up to and encircles the centrally located BMW badge.
• The 2 Series Gran Coupe measures 4,526 millimetres in length and 1,800 millimetres in width, and stands 1,420 millimetres tall. Despite its low-slung, sporty appearance, passengers are well catered for space-wise, thanks to the 2,670‑millimetre wheelbase. Plus, the 430‑litre load compartment can be expanded in various ways.

• Dynamic front end with fresh interpretation of BMW icons: the slightly angled headlights (full-LED as standard) forming the prominent BMW four-eyed face draw attention to the familiar BMW kidney grille, which takes the form of a large and connected element.

• As its sporting looks imply, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe sets out to establish the dynamic yardstick in its class. The underpinnings for this are provided by the advanced BMW front-wheel-drive architecture, which the Gran Coupe shares with the new BMW 1 Series along with an array of other technological developments.

• The near-actuator wheel slip limitation (ARB) tech familiar from the BMW i3s (electric power consumption combined:
  14.6 – 14 kWh/100 km, CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km) allows wheel slip to be controlled much more sensitively and swiftly than before.

• ARB is assisted in its task by the standard yaw moment distribution system BMW Performance Control, which increases handling agility by intelligently applying the brakes at the wheels on the inside of the bend before the slip threshold has been reached and ensures neutral steering behaviour.
• Standard specification for the sporty BMW M235i xDrive range-topper includes BMW xDrive all-wheel drive, a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential, M Sport steering and M Sport brakes. The eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission also features a Launch Control mode. The three-dimensional mesh replacing the bars in the kidney grille is inspired by racing cars and adds an alluring visual feature.
• As well as the BMW M235i xDrive model, customers can choose from five equipment lines: Basic, Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport.
• One diesel and two petrol engines are available at launch: a three-cylinder petrol with 103 kW (140 hp) in the BMW 218i, a 140 kW (190 hp) four-cylinder diesel unit in the BMW 220d and the BMW Group’s most powerful four-cylinder engine – developing 225 kW (306 hp) – in the BMW M235i xDrive. All engines comply with the strict Euro 6d‑TEMP emissions standard.
• The BMW 228i xDrive with two-litre four-cylinder engine producing output of 170 kW (231 hp) is only available in the USA.
• The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe benefits from innovative driver assistance systems filtering down from higher models. The Lane Departure Warning system with active lane return and collision and pedestrian warning with city braking function are fitted as standard in Europe, while Active Cruise Control, the Driving Assistant including Lane Change Warning, rear collision warning and crossing traffic warning, plus the innovative reversing assistant are all available as options. 
• The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe can be locked and unlocked from a smartphone if the optional BMW Digital Key is specified. The engine can be started as soon as the smartphone is placed in its tray.
• The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is part of the control/operating concept. As a fully-fledged BMW expert, this digital character can learn routines and habits and subsequently apply them in the appropriate context. He can also provide casual conversation, throwing in the occasional joke or relating interesting stories.
• Connected Navigation services allow internal and external information to be factored into route planning. BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe drivers will be able to send destinations from various apps straight to their car’s navigation system, store and sync them.
