Munich. Summer 2025 is set to bring innovations in electric drive technology and digitalisation as well as new standard and optional equipment features that will make the current BMW model range even more attractive. New power electronics in the all-electric BMW i4 result in even greater efficiency and increased range. The most powerful BMW i4 will also debut at the same time. Numerous BMW models will come as standard with Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key, which has now become even easier to set up.

From summer 2025, the BMW X1, BMW X2 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be available with new exterior and interior options. Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé now includes heated front seats. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now offers an alternative voice.

BMW i4: reduced consumption, new range-topper with extra power.

From July 2025, the BMW i4 eDrive35 (WLTP combined (EnVKV): energy consumption 17.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A); range 428-514 km (WLTP combined (PER)) as well as the BMW i4 eDrive40 (WLTP combined (EnVKV): energy consumption 17.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A); range 510-613 km (WLTP combined (PER)) will come with silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC inverter), which reduce consumption by around 4.5 per cent while adding up to 22 kilometres of range (depending on the model and equipment installed as part of an individual vehicle configuration).

From July 2025, the new range topper for the all-electric BMW i4 comes in the shape of the BMW i4 M60 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): energy consumption 20.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A); range 433-551 km (WLTP combined (PER)). Compared to the predecessor, it provides an additional 42 kW/57 hp of power, for a system output of 442 kW/601 hp. The new BMW i4 M60 xDrive takes 3.7 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.

BMW Digital Key: smartphone used as key enables many additional functions.

The BMW Digital Key will soon become the tool of choice to unlock and lock many BMW models, courtesy of a simplified set-up process. The BMW iX was the first to be updated in March 2025, and many model series will follow from July 2025: the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring, BMW M5, BMW M5 Touring and BMW 7 Series. The BMW X5, BMW X5 M, BMW X6, BMW X6 M, BMW X7 and BMW XM models will follow from August 2025. The BMW X3 will come with the new set-up process in the US from August 2025 and in South Africa from September 2025.

The feature will then include a physical key, a Setup Card and a Service Card. The new Setup Card makes it easier than ever to set up the BMW Digital Key on smartphones from all major manufacturers by simply holding the card to the mobile phone or scanning the QR code on the back. The next step takes the user straight into the My BMW app. After authorisation via the Setup Card, the BMW ID is linked to the vehicle and the BMW Digital Key is then activated. After activation, the customer can easily share the Digital Key with other people by sending them a text message. Activation is possible on up to 18 devices. Owners can define various roles and permissions for each vehicle user. A particularly useful function ideal for novice drivers is limiting acceleration and top speed, for example. If a physical key does need to be handed over, for example in the workshop or in the event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be used. This should always be carried deactivated so it can be activated as a fully-fledged key when needed, via a click on the central display.

For all eventualities: tyre repair kit and tyre repair kit Plus.

From summer 2025, the tyre repair kit will come as standard for various BMW models. These include the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 3 Series Touring, BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 4 Series Convertible. The optional tyre repair kit Plus is available for the BMW X3 (excluding the BMW X3 30e xDrive).

Individual paintwork finishes at a glance, in the BMW Configurator.

Customers appreciate the BMW Individual paintwork colours as a way to add a personal touch to their new BMW. Special paintwork finishes which previously required looking up in the BMW Individual Visualiser can be selected within the BMW Configurator. With just a few exceptions, this applies to all BMW models.

More equipment for BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will from summer 2025 be even more comprehensive and include heated front seats and an alarm system. The optional M Technology Package II available for the BMW M135 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 188 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.2 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 185 g/km; CO₂ class G) now includes M seat belts with M colours in the weave.

New colours for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2.

Summer 2025 will bring new exterior and interior options for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2. New paintwork colours include Fire Red metallic and Night Dusk Blue for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as well as Dune Grey metallic for the BMW X2. All three colours are also available for the BMW X1, along with BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. Veganza perforated upholstery in the colours Castanea, Smoke White and Atlas Grey/Smoke White is newly available for customising the interior of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X2. The Castanea and Smoke White colourways are available for the BMW X1. The Econeer Bicolour Blue upholstery can be ordered from summer 2025 in combination with front sport seats only. Another new option is the Brushed Aluminium Shadow interior trim.

More comprehensive equipment for BMW 7 Series, BMW X3 and BMW iX.

The BMW 7 Series and BMW i7 now feature laminated safety glass with contrast print as standard. From summer 2025, comfort glazing, sun protection glazing and the Heat Comfort package will also be available as individual options for the first time, enabling even more specific customisation.

A new equipment option for the BMW X3 is the attractive M door sill trim. It can be ordered for the M Sport package, M Sport package Pro and the BMW X3 M50 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 189 g/km; CO₂ class G).

BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic is a new paintwork finish with a particularly distinctive character, available as an option for the BMW iX from summer 2025.

Ultimate Package for BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition.

The BMW X5 M Competition (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 12.9 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 292 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW X6 M Competition (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 12.8 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 289 g/km; CO₂ class G) now benefit from the optional Ultimate Package. In addition to the M Carbon engine cover, this also includes M Carbon mirror caps, the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof, active seat ventilation as well as the massage function at the front and the Comfort Package. The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System ensures exceptional sound quality. The M Driver’s Package included as part of the package increases top speed to 290 km/h. In the BMW X6 M Competition, this is complemented by an exclusive M Carbon rear spoiler.

Comprehensively upgraded BMW iDrive.

Among the numerous innovations in the area of digital services is the upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant in BMW Operating System 9. It now offers customers in Turkey, Greece and Hungary natural-language voice control in their native languages.  

In the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW X3, customers in many countries* can now link their own Amazon Alexa account to the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This enables them to use intuitive voice control to enjoy music via the “Hey BMW” command – courtesy of Alexa running in the background, just like at home. In addition, a second voice is now available for the assistant.** Further improvements in language understanding and faster processing speeds contribute to a more harmonious overall experience.

From summer 2025, BMW Digital Premium with BMW Operating System 9 will, subject to country-specific availability, enable customers to use the Zoom app on their Curved Display for videoconferencing when the vehicle is stationary. To avoid distractions, the app automatically deactivates the video while driving.

Parking Assistant Plus upgrade.

From July 2025, the functions of the Parking Assistant Plus will be enhanced for many BMW models. It will now also use marker lines around parking spots to help identify available spaces and ensure parking precision. Previously, this feature was only available as part of the Parking Assistant Professional.

BMW Maps user interface upgrades in BMW Operating System 8.5.

BMW Maps offers intuitive destination entry and intelligent route guidance and will come with further user interface improvements from summer 2025. For faster access to frequently used functions, the home screen of the control display will feature direct touch buttons for “Home” and “Work” in the BMW Maps QuickSelect Widget, for example.

The BMW Group is expanding its revolutionary driving experience with BMW M Mixed Reality, which breaks down the boundaries between the physical and virtual worlds through state-of-the-art VR/MR technologies. The vehicle itself becomes the controller - a unique 3D interaction between driver, vehicle and environment.

"Mixed reality" refers to the fusion of of physical and digital worlds into a seamless experience. BMW M first presented mixed reality technology at the Web Summit in Lisbon in November 2022 and has been continuously developing it ever since.

With BMW M Mixed Reality, fans and first movers can immerse themselves in a digital world while physically sitting at the wheel of a BMW M vehicle and controlling it.

First-ever multisensory multiplayer

The possibilities of virtual reality are boundless: On a secret mission, you enter the BMW M Garage and from there, you ascend to the top of the BMW M Rooftop Circuit. Surrounded by skyscrapers, two BMW M Mixed Reality customers now race against each other virtually in a multiplayer mode A new feature is that spectators with personified avatars can virtually watch the race live from the BMW M Mixed Reality Bridge. They do not have to be physically present in the area where the multiplayers are driving. They can be virtually connected using devices like the Meta Quest or Apple Vision Pro.

BMW M Mixed Reality will be presented again in Lisbon this year. For BMW M fans, BMW M Mixed Reality has been available in the singleplayer mode since autumn 2023 as part of the BMW M Driving Experience in Maisach, the world's first driving experience for customers.

Merging reality and the virtual world

The new BMW M Mixed Reality Rooftop Circuit was also a highlight at the presentation of BMW M Mixed Reality. Drivers had to evade virtual obstacles and collect BMW M coins in a shimmering metropolis. The BMW M135 vehicles were used, which thanks to technical refinements can be used as M Mixed Reality vehicles.

This includes very precise GPS positioning on the road surface in order to transfer position and movement to the virtual world. Every acceleration, every turn and every braking manoeuvre is transmitted to the virtual world without latency thanks to precise sensor technology and signal processing. Not only the movements of the vehicle are transmitted, but also those of the driver.

The technology for this is already integrated into the standardised in-vehicle systems of all BMW and BMW M automobiles. These systems are so precise that no additional sensors are required.

Another key element is the VR headset that the driver wears to experience the digital world. This headset must be connected to the vehicle's internal systems in order to synchronise movements and data in real time. Thanks to this equipment, various BMW M models can be used for BMW M Mixed Reality, regardless of the drive system. This includes vehicles with a conventional combustion engine such as the BMW M2 or BMW M4 as well as models with a fully electric powertrain such as the BMW i5 M60. In the future, BMW M can also imagine offering the new BMW M5 with M Mixed Reality. The technology is flexible and can be adapted to different vehicle platforms to provide a consistent and immersive mixed reality experience.

Digital innovations for the driving experience

BMW Group Mixed Reality is an answer to what future virtual experiences in the automotive sector could look like. At the current stage of development, it enables perfect controllability in every driving situation. Drifting will also be possible in the future, although no date has yet been set for when customers will be able to have this experience.

MINI also benefits from the BMW Group Mixed Reality umbrella: There are also plans to offer customers a multi-sensory mixed reality driving experience.

In addition, further applications in the field of vehicle development and professional training are already being investigated. For example, there is potential as a valuable addition to existing simulator driving in the dynamic driving area, without compromising driving safety, or in the development of driver assistance systems. On existing racetracks, a Professional Track Trainer could in the future display content such as the ideal line and braking points to drivers in order to train them to drive even more precisely. Current AR headset technology is not yet accurate enough for this ambitious use case.

Munich. With the upcoming Rocket League Season 16, the new BMW 1 Series will make a spectacular debut in the popular online video game from Epic Games. Rocket League is an action-packed car soccer game in which players try to kick a ball into the opponent's goal using a variety of rocket-powered vehicles. Players can compete alone or in teams of up to three, using ingenious strategies and spectacular stunts to achieve victory. Before Season 16 begins, BMW and Epic Games are launching a competition and calling on the global gaming community to design a Decal for the new BMW 1 Series according to their personal wishes. The winning design of the Rocket League x BMW Decal Design Contest will then be integrated into the game as part of a mid-Season patch.

Customisation of their vehicles is a key part of the gameplay experience in Rocket League. A variety of Decals, Wheels and other add-on parts that can be applied to the vehicles offer a wide range of options for expressing your personality. The ability to customise vehicles encourages creativity and increases the motivation to stand out from other players by unlocking new design elements. The new BMW 1 Series will be available in the game in Skyscraper Grey metallic paint and can be customised with Universal Decals, Wheels, Toppers and Antennas. This will include exclusive Decals and liveries developed by BMW in collaboration with Epic Games.

Launch of the Rocket League x BMW Decal Design Contest.

To build excitement for the start of Season 16 and challenge players' creativity, the renowned game developer and premium car manufacturer are combining the debut of the new BMW 1 Series with the Rocket League x BMW Decal Design Contest. Between 9 and 30 August 2024, players will have the opportunity to create their own Rocket League Decal design for the new BMW 1 Series. Participants are provided with two-dimensional sketches showing the car from different perspectives. The templates can be downloaded at b.mw/DecalContest and customised using the tools of your choice. Whether digitally on the computer, with a pencil or in oil or watercolours, there are no limits to creativity. Finished designs can be submitted via Instagram and X using the hashtags #RocketLeagueBMWDecalContest and #Contest.

In mid-October, the best designs will be selected during an award show livestream. The top three finishers will receive prize money of $3,000 for the winner, $2,000 for the second place and $1,000 for the third place. The winning design will be available immediately after a mid-Season patch in Rocket League for all players who have already purchased the new BMW 1 Series through Rocket Pass Premium.

The new BMW 1 Series: A pioneer for the fun of gaming in the real world as well.

In the real world, too, the new BMW 1 Series is an exciting proposition with its sporty character and advanced level of digitalisation. It embodies the brand's hallmark driving pleasure in the premium compact segment with its dynamic design, a completely revised drive portfolio and extensively enhanced chassis technology. The latest version of the BMW iDrive display and operating system, based on BMW Operating System 9, offers an innovative user experience. It provides the basis for a highly individual selection of digital services, which are available to customers with the BMW ConnectedDrive upgrades and the new BMW Digital Premium offer.

This also includes in-car gaming on the BMW Curved Display with the AirConsole platform, which offers a constantly growing selection of casual games. The range includes classics such as "Who wants to be a millionaire?" and titles such as "Starlit Kart". These allow drivers and passengers to spend time in a stationary vehicle, either alone or in multiplayer mode. All you need is your smartphone, which acts as the controller. Leipzig. The first fourth-generation BMW 1 Series to roll off the production line at BMW Group Plant Leipzig is a BMW 120 in Alpine White for a customer in Germany (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 - 5.3 l/100 km (62 miles); CO2 emissions combined: 135 - 121 g/km according to WLTP; CO2 classes: D). The premium compact is manufactured exclusively at Plant Leipzig, in Saxony, where up to 500 of the cars can be made per day. Combined with the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and MINI Countryman, this puts daily output from Plant Leipzig at up to 1,300 vehicles. The new BMW 1 Series is due for market launch in October 2024.

The new BMW 1 Series marks the start of a new chapter in the BMW brand’s almost 20-year success story in the compact segment. Production of the model first began with the three-door at Plant Leipzig in 2007. Since then the plant has manufactured more than 1.3 million in a range of variants. As at the end of June 2024, nearly 443,000 third-generation BMW 1 Series have been delivered to customers. “The new BMW 1 Series will remain a key factor in maintaining high capacity utilisation here at plant Leipzig,” said a confident Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director.

Plant upgraded to increase capacity

Since 2018 BMW Group Plant Leipzig has undergone systematic upgrades. It can now produce up to 350,000 units a year – 100,000 more than previously. It currently manufactures four models with three different types of drive by two different brands – all on the same production line. Since November 2023 output has been boosted by the MINI Countryman. Production of that will rise during the course of this year to 500 units a day, in addition to the 800 or so BMW vehicles.

The increase in production volumes is securing existing jobs as well as creating new ones. An additional 900 people are set to join vehicle production alone, by the end of 2024 Plant Leipzig will employ around 7,000 people. 

Dynamic design, new drive portfolio

With a dynamic design presence, completely revised drive portfolio and extensively improved chassis technology, the BMW 1 Series continues to sharpen its profile as the sportiest vehicle in the competition. The front end is strikingly flat and sits significantly lower to the road than the predecessor’s, signalling that more than ever, this car is geared towards sporty driving pleasure. The wide, forward-leaning radiator grille features an innovative arrangement of vertical and diagonal bars. LED headlights come as standard and give the car a striking “four-eyed face”.

The pronounced rear apron with its vertical reflectors, two-part rear lights and black, diffusor-style insert add to the vehicle’s powerful appearance. Inside, the new BMW 1 Series is now completely leather-free as standard. The redesigned cockpit features the BMW Curved Display. The optional M Sport Package makes for an even more dynamic look, as does the special M Sport Design equipment option, available from market launch in Europe.

Contrast roof – a first in the BMW 1 Series

The body of the new BMW 1 Series is available in a choice of two solid-colour and seven metallic finishes. BMW Individual paintwork will also be on offer, along with a wide range of BMW Individual Special Paints. The new BMW 1 Series is also the first BMW to feature the optional contrast paintwork, with a roof in high-gloss black. As with the MINI Countryman, the roof will be painted at Plant Leipzig using a new, overspray-free painting process that is easier on resources. Known as overspray-free painting, the method is currently being piloted and works without producing the mist of excess paint that usually occurs.

The new BMW 1 Series is due for market launch on 5 October. The strongest markets for the 1 Series so far have been Germany and Europe, and the UK and Italy especially.

The pioneer of driving pleasure in the premium compact segment is entering its fourth model generation. With a dynamic design presence, a completely revised drive portfolio and extensively improved chassis technology, the new BMW 1 Series has sharpened its profile as the sportiest vehicle in the competitive environment. Highly efficient engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology and a production process designed to conserve resources and recycle materials optimise sustainability throughout the entire product life cycle. Its progressive character is also reflected in the redesigned interior, an extended range of automated driving and parking systems, the new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and innovative digital services based on BMW Operating System 9.

The premiere of the new BMW 1 Series marks the start of a new chapter in the brand's 20-year success story in the compact segment. The new model generation will also be produced at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig. Its market launch is scheduled for October 2024. The most important sales region is the German domestic market. In addition to other European countries, Japan is one of the top five markets for the new BMW 1 Series.

Exterior design: Dynamic front end and hallmark BMW proportions.

The sporty aura of the BMW 1 Series is underlined in the latest model generation by typical BMW proportions: a long bonnet, a passenger cell set well back, a dynamically flowing roofline and a powerful rear end. The dimensions of the five-door model have changed only slightly compared to its predecessor. The exterior length of the new BMW 1 Series has increased by 42 millimetres to 4,361 millimetres, while the wheelbase is 2,670 millimetres. The vehicle width is 1,800 millimetres, while the height has increased by 25 millimetres to 1,459 millimetres.

With a strikingly flat front end that sits significantly lower to the road than its predecessor, the new BMW 1 Series signals its sporty character more than ever. The wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille features an innovative structure of vertical and diagonal bars. The standard LED headlights feature striking vertical elements for the daytime running light and the turn indicators. Adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam, cornering light function and blue accents are optionally available.

The side view of the new BMW 1 Series is characterised by the dynamic wedge shape and the flat window graphics that taper towards the rear. The standard BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line includes a graphic element with the number 1 in the Hofmeister kink counter-swing on the C-pillar. A long roof spoiler and side air deflectors emphasise the stretched silhouette. Vertical reflectors and a black diffuser-style insert add to the powerful appearance of the rear apron. The striking, two-part rear lights extend will into the side sections.

The body paintwork of the new BMW 1 Series is available in two solid paintwork finishes and seven metallic finishes. Four BMW Individual paint finishes and a wide range of BMW Individual special paint finishes are also available. The new BMW 1 Series is the first model in the brand's range to be available with an optional contrasting roof paint finish. The high-gloss black finish adds to the sporty appearance of the car.

BMW M automobile with individual performance character.

The optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Design optional equipment available at market launch in Europe make the new BMW 1 Series even more dynamic. Its M specific design features include large air intakes on the front apron, pronounced side skirts and a three-dimensional diffuser element in the rear apron.

At the top of the model range is the BMW M135 xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 - 7.6 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions combined: 184 - 173 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: G - F) with significantly enhanced performance characteristics. The BMW M model is powered by a 221 kW/300 hp four-cylinder engine, features an Adaptive M Chassis with sport steering and intelligent all-wheel drive as standard and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. On the outside, the M radiator grille with horizontal bars, M exterior mirror caps and four exhaust tailpipes make it instantly recognisable as a top-of-the-range model. An M Technology Package with specific suspension components, stiffness and lightweight measures, an M Compound brake system and 19-inch forged light-alloy wheels is available exclusively for the BMW M135 xDrive. An M Sport Package Pro and model-specific BMW M Performance Parts are also available for all variants of the new BMW 1 Series.

Sporty premium ambience, leather-free interior.

The newly designed interior of the new BMW 1 Series, which is completely leather-free as standard, offers a modern premium ambience with sporty accents and generous space for up to five occupants. Newly designed seats offer a high level of comfort for long journeys. Sport seats in the Econeer version with covers and upholstery made from recycled polyester and M sport seats are optionally available. Perforated seat surfaces are also available in the Veganza version with leather-like properties. The Veganza/Alcantara equipment is part of the M Sport Package and standard equipment in the BMW M135 xDrive.

Heated seats and a wide range of electric adjustments, including memory on the driver's side, are available as options for all seat versions. Lumbar support can be added to the sport seats and the M sport seats. An optional massage function is also available for the sport seats. A driver and front passenger interaction airbag is now fitted as standard to further enhance occupant protection. By folding down the rear seat backrests, the storage space under the tailgate can be increased from 380 litres to 1,200 litres (BMW 120, BMW 120d: 300 - 1,135 litres).

High-quality surfaces and trim, the redesigned gear selector and the BMW Curved Display underline the progressive, premium ambience of the interior. The fully digital display system comprises a 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display. The number of buttons and controls in the cockpit has been significantly reduced thanks to the consistent use of digital technology. The air conditioning in the new BMW 1 Series is also controlled digitally. As an alternative to the standard sport steering wheel, a similarly redesigned M leather steering wheel is also available. It is part of the M Sport Package and has shift paddles for manual gear changes.

New generation of engines, 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard.

Like the BMW M135 xDrive engine, all of the other engines available for the new BMW 1 Series are part of the latest generation of modular engines from the BMW Group. The three-cylinder petrol engine of the new BMW 120 (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 - 5.3 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions combined: 135 - 121 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: D) and the four-cylinder diesel engine of the new BMW 120d (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 - 4.3 l/100 km (62 miles); CO₂ emissions combined: 125 - 112 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: D - C) are combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, which enhances both their efficiency and their spontaneous power delivery. All of the drive units transmit their power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard.

With a maximum power output of 125 kW/170 hp, the drive system of the new BMW 120 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.8 seconds. The new BMW 120d generates a power output of 120 kW/163 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.9 seconds. The BMW 118d, also powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 - 4.6 l/100 km (62 miles);
CO₂ emissions combined: 136 - 122 g/km according to WLTP; CO₂ classes: E - D) delivers 110 kW/150 hp and an acceleration of 8.3 seconds.

Improved body rigidity and further development of the chassis.

The agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics of the new BMW 1 Series benefit from the increased rigidity of the body structure and the chassis connection. Advanced chassis technology includes optimised kinematics, highly preloaded anti-roll bar mounts and new shock absorber technology. The caster of the front wheels has been increased by 20 per cent, ensuring particularly stable directional stability and optimised steering feedback.

In addition to the directly controlled wheel slip limitation, the new BMW 1 Series also features an integrated braking system and 17-inch light-alloy wheels (BMW M135 xDrive: 18-inch) as standard. The optional M Sport Package includes the Adaptive M Chassis, which lowers the vehicle by up to 8 millimetres, sport steering and 18-inch light-alloy wheels. Up to 19-inch light-alloy wheels and an M sport brake system are also available as optional equipment.

State-of-the-art systems for automated driving and parking.

The new BMW 1 Series offers a significantly extended range of automated driving and parking systems as standard or optional equipment. Standard features include the Driving Assistant with front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, Exit Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition, as well as the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

Highlights of the optional range include Steering and Lane Control Assist, Automatic Speed Limit Assist and route guidance when using Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. Parking Assistant Professional is also available for the new BMW 120 and the new BMW 120d, allowing parking and manoeuvring to be controlled by smartphone.

Expanded standard equipment, targeted individualisation.

In addition to the high-quality assistance systems, the significantly expanded range of standard equipment of the new BMW 1 Series also includes automatic air conditioning, electrically folding exterior mirrors and the BMW Live Cockpit Plus including the BMW Maps cloud-based navigation system. New optional equipment packages allow targeted individualisation.

The Innovation Package includes BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Head-Up Display and Augmented View on the Control Display as well as Parking Assistant Plus. The Premium Package includes the telephone option with wireless charging, Comfort Access, logo projection from the exterior mirrors, automatic dimming interior mirror and adaptive LED headlights. The range of optional equipment also includes 2-zone automatic air conditioning, a panoramic glass roof and a Harman Kardon sound system.

The new BMW Operating System 9, BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Digital Premium.

The new BMW 1 Series features the latest version of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect for intuitive and convenient operation of the vehicle's functions. The new home screen shows function icons vertically arranged on the same level. "QuickSelect" allows direct access to functions without having to switch to a submenu. The new BMW iDrive is consistently designed for touch operation and voice control. It is based on the BMW Operating System 9, which also provides the basis for a highly individual selection of additional digital services. Remote software upgrades allow new and improved vehicle functions to be integrated into the vehicle over-the-air. With BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades, customers can also test selected functions free of charge for a period of one month and then book them for a specific period. The new BMW Digital Premium offer can also be booked for the new BMW 1 Series in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.

BMW Digital Premium makes it possible to use country-specific apps, such as music and video streaming, news or gaming, in the vehicle as part of a subscription. The offer also includes data usage for all digital services and the apps contained in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. BMW Digital Premium also extends the functions of the BMW Maps navigation system and the selection of My Modes and the lighting for the welcome and goodbye animation. In selected countries, BMW Digital Premium also enables digital payment of parking fees and fuel bills from the vehicle.

Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is available as standard in the new BMW 1 Series. BMW ID and My BMW App offer a convenient way to personalise the user experience in the new BMW 1 Series. The BMW Digital Key Plus with ultra-wideband wireless technology for compatible smartphones with iOS or Android operating systems and the Apple Watch can also be optionally set up via the My BMW App.

Munich. Just a few weeks after the market launch of the new BMW X1, the fully electric model variant of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) will also be released onto the road for the first time in November 2022. Together with the BMW iX1 xDrive30 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.1 - 16.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ), two plug-in hybrid models and two further variants of the new BMW X1 with conventional combustion engine drive are also being launched.

With additional engines and new optional extras, BMW is also increasing the efficiency and attractiveness of numerous other model series for autumn 2022. These include new entry-level motors and engines for the all-electric BMW i4 and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, an innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as innovations in the field of digitalisation for optimising driving pleasure, comfort and safety.

BMW X1 and BMW iX1: Consistent electrification in new diversity.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the brand's first all-wheel drive electric vehicle in the premium compact segment. With this model, the BMW Group is consistently continuing its model offensive in the field of purely electric mobility and making locally emission-free driving pleasure attractive to broad target groups. Two highly integrated e-drive units on the front and rear axles generate a combined output of 230 kW/313 hp, including a temporary boost. The torque generated by the whole system is 494 Nm. The new BMW iX1 xDrive30 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Its range, determined in the WLTP test cycle, is between 417 and 440 kilometres.

The consistent electrification of the drive portfolio also includes the two plug-in hybrid models BMW X1 xDrive30e (fuel consumption combined: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.9 - 14.7 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 23 - 16 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: and BMW X1 xDrive25e (combined fuel consumption: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.8 - 14.6 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 22 - 15 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: -) as well as two new combustion engine variants with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The plug-in hybrid systems each consist of a highly integrated e-drive unit acting on the rear wheels and a 3-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels via the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch. Fifth-generation lithium-ion high-voltage batteries arranged flat in the vehicle floor with a usable energy content of 14.2 kWh and optimised efficiency through intelligent energy management and adaptive recuperation enable an electric range of 76 to 88 kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive30e and 77 to 92 kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive25e.

The drive system of the new BMW X1 xDrive30e generates an output of up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly delivered by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 130 kW/177 hp). This means that the more powerful of the two plug-in hybrid models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. With a maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric drive with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new BMW X1 xDrive25e takes the car from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Electrification also gives the combustion engines of the new BMW X1 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 - 5.9 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 149 - 133 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) and the new BMW X1 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 - 4.8 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 - 127 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) a higher level of efficiency and a particularly sporty power delivery. Its 48-volt mild hybrid technology consists of an electric motor integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch, which acts as a starter generator and can both relieve and support the combustion engine. In the BMW X1 sDrive20i it is combined with a 3-cylinder petrol engine. This results in a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 115 kW/156 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 280 Nm (jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 240 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), taking the car from a standstill to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. A 4-cylinder diesel engine and mild hybrid technology give the BMW X1 xDrive20d a maximum output of 120 kW/163 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 360 Nm and the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), enabling it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds.

BMW i4 eDrive35: New entry-level engine for the all-electric Gran Coupé.

The BMW i4 model family will be joined by another member in November 2022 as well. The BMW i4 eDrive35 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.7 - 15.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ) is the new entry-level model in the all-electric Gran Coupé range in the premium mid-size segment. The third model variant also features fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. A highly integrated drive unit with 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm powers the rear axle and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds.

The range of the BMW i4 eDrive35 in the statutory WLTP cycle is up to 483 kilometres. Its high-quality standard equipment includes, among other things, the latest-generation BMW iDrive developed on the basis of BMW Operating System 8, including BMW Curved Display and BMW Live Cockpit Plus including BMW Maps navigation system.

BMW 216i Active Tourer: New entry-level engine for the compact all-rounder.

A new entry-level engine will also enrich the model range of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in autumn 2022. The new BMW 216i Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 – 6.2 litres/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 152 - 140 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) offers a particularly economical way to experience the driving pleasure and versatility of the compact all-rounder. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp and a maximum torque of 230 Nm. The engine's power is delivered to the front wheels via a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard. The new BMW 216i Active Tourer accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

Innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, new gear selector for the BMW iX3.

In order to facilitate individualising the car, BMW bundles attractive optional extras in model-specific packages. From November 2022, an innovation package will be available for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the contents of which will enhance driving pleasure as well as comfort and safety.

The new Innovation Package includes Comfort Access including Digital Key and Welcome, the interior and exterior mirror package as well as automatic air conditioning with 2-zone control and electric seat adjustment including memory function on the driver's side. Adaptive LED headlights and high beam assistant ensue optimised illumination of the road. The BMW Head-Up Display and telephony with wireless charging are also included in the Innovation Package.

There is a substantial design modification regarding the interior of the BMW iX3 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.9 - 18.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ). The all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle of the premium mid-size class will be equipped with a redesigned gear selector on the centre console from January 2023. This means that a control element in the new, reduced interior design from BMW is also available in this model selecting gears.

BMW M Laptimer now as a vehicle app - time measurement also for BMW models with BMW Operating System 7.

Performance becomes measurable thanks to the BMW M Laptimer. The function is now available in Europe, the USA and Canada as a vehicle app in many current BMW models and BMW M automobiles. With the BMW M Laptimer, lap times can be recorded while driving on the race track. The total duration and track length of the ride, the number of laps, the time for the fastest lap and the highest speed achieved are displayed. The system recognises the start and finish line of a lap using recurring GPS coordinates. The length of a measured lap can be between one and 37 kilometres.

The BMW M Laptimer is available as a vehicle app in all models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and the Connected Package Professional option. In the models of the BMW M3/BMW M4 series, the M Laptimer App is part of the optional M Drive Professional equipment. In these models, once the time measurement has been activated, there is a widget in the instrument cluster that shows the current and final lap time. In addition, the BMW Head-Up Display shows both the current lap time and the difference to the fastest lap so far during the course of a recording.

Innovations regarding the Digital Key and Digital Key Plus.

The optional BMW Digital Key and Digital Key Plus can now be shared across platforms between users of iOS and Android devices, including via e-mail or messenger service, for example. Until now, only the Apple iPhone offered the Digital Key Plus, which uses security-optimised ultra-wideband radio technology (UWB) to automatically unlock the BMW iX and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer when you approach them and lock them when you move away. You can simply keep the device in your pocket. From December 2022, this convenient access method will also be possible with Android devices that are equipped with a corresponding UWB chip and are enabled for Digital Key Plus (initially Google Pixel Pro).

The Digital Key Plus also enables additional functions via the My BMW app using UWB technology near vehicles with production dates from November 2022 (an Apple iPhone with iOS 16 operating system is required). The additional functions are displayed in the My BMW app as soon as you approach the vehicle to within about six 6 metres. These include the comfort open/close functions, known from the long press on open/close with the physical vehicle key, as well as the level control for vehicles with air suspension. In the BMW 7 Series, the optional automatic doors can also be operated via the My BMW app within the UWB range. For vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 8 and Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Control Parking can also be controlled via the My BMW app.

Continuous tyre pressure monitoring with notification in the My BMW app, new Digital Art Mode in the BMW 7 Series, BMW iX, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1.

The digital tyre diagnosis system, which comes as standard in many current BMW models, will include an additional function from November 2022. The tyre pressure will be continuously monitored in the future. For example, if a loss of pressure is registered in a parked vehicle, the customer receives a notification via the My BMW app. Continuous tyre pressure monitoring is available in the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, BMW 7 Series and BMW X7.

In the BMW 7 Series, the BMW iX, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW X1, the driving experience, which can be customised with the help of My Modes, will also be enriched with a unique artistic experience from November 2022. The new Digital Art Mode will be available for the first time. The exclusive digital work "Quantum Garden" by Chinese multimedia artist Cao Fei is shown on the vehicle displays.

New functions for the My BMW app.

With the latest update, the range of functions of the My BMW app has been expanded to provide additional usage options. The app now includes a first-mile function that shows customers the route to their vehicle on their smartphone. In future, they will also be able to search for contacts stored on their smartphone in the My BMW app, call up ratings and pictures for so-called points of interest and pay parking fees at a variety of locations. From autumn 2022, the My BMW app will provide users of models with electrified drive systems with specific information in the event of charging irregularities. In future, all functions specially designed for electric mobility can be found more easily via an entry point in the vehicle menu area. 

The new "My Trips" function provides the customer with trip data in the My BMW app. For example, information on the distance travelled, average speed, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions are listed. Drivers of models with electrified drive systems are also informed about the proportion of the route they have driven electrically.

The user interface for the vehicle menu area has also been updated. If the vehicle's air conditioning is activated using the My BMW app, this can be seen on the picture of the vehicle. Information about customer support can be found in the Profile menu area under "Contact us".

Munich. The introduction of two distinctive new model characters is set to provide an ideal gateway into the world of the BMW brand. The BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé bring signature BMW driving pleasure to the premium compact segment, and now this can be combined with even more eye-catching visuals. The new Edition ColorVision package introduces targeted upgrades for the sporting appeal of both models in terms of both their driving characteristics and their appearance. It is based on the equipment features in the respective M Sport models and contains additions including a metallic paint finish and exclusive bi-colour leather trim. The Edition ColorVision will be available for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2022.

With its exclusive design and equipment features, the Edition ColorVision shines a particularly bright spotlight on the unmistakable attributes of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé – their elegantly sporty exterior design, their agile driving properties and the sophisticated premium ambience of their interiors. The vibrant character of the two models is focused on driving pleasure, and this is clearly accentuated by the features of M Sport specification. A large, three-section lower air intake in the front apron, a dark diffuser element and vertically arranged air outlets in the rear apron, and M High-gloss Shadowline create a powerful overall appearance. The 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and Black/Silver bi-colour finish available exclusively for the special-edition cars add another exclusive accent.

Elsewhere, BMW M 50 Jahre emblems can be ordered for the bonnet, boot lid and wheel hubs as a no-cost option, while M Sport suspension with a 10-millimetre drop in ride height and M sport steering optimise the dynamic potential of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Like the M Sport models, Edition ColorVision specification also includes a metallic paint finish. Eight expressive exterior shades are available for both the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. In addition, BMW Individual paint finishes can be ordered as an option, among them the matt variant Frozen Pure Grey metallic. At BMW Group Plant Leipzig, where both the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé are produced, the special-edition cars can also be finished in one of 50 exceptionally distinctive BMW M colours. Particularly style-defining and historically significant paint shades such as Dakar Yellow, Daytona Violet and Macao Blue have been re-issued for the 50-year anniversary of BMW M GmbH.

The special-edition models also bring colour into play for the interior. An exclusive element of their specification is bi-colour Dakota leather trim, which can be ordered in the colour combinations Black/Magma Red and Black/White, adds an embroidered “Edition” badge and combines with M Sport seats for the driver and front passenger. These seats come with integral head restraints, high seat bolsters and wide backrest sides to support a dynamic driving style. The M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, anthracite-coloured headliner, M stainless steel pedals and M driver’s footrest also enhance the sporting allure of the interior in the special-edition cars. The Light package with ambient lighting and floor mats with bespoke piping are also part of the Edition ColorVision, as are exclusive door sill cover strips with surfaces in mesh design bearing “Edition” lettering.

The Edition ColorVision is available for all engine variants of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé with the exception of the BMW 128ti (fuel consumption, combined: 7.4 – 6.8 l/100 km [38.2 – 41.5 mpg imp] in the WLTP cycle; CO₂ emissions, combined: 170 – 156 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures accorting to NEDC: -). The compact five-door model can be ordered with three petrol engines and three diesel units, while the four-door Coupé is offered with two petrol engines and three diesels. Added to which, the range-topping BMW M135i xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 8.0 – 7.4 l/100 km [35.3 – 38.2 mpg imp] in the WLTP cycle; CO₂ emissions, combined: 180 – 167 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures accorting to NEDC: -) and BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupé (fuel consumption, combined: 7.8 – 7.2 l/100 km [36.2 – 39.2mpg imp] in the WLTP cycle; CO₂ emissions, combined: 175 – 162 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures accorting to NEDC: -) can also be ordered in Edition ColorVision form. So configured, they combine the performance attributes of their 225 kW/306 hp four-cylinder engine, their intelligent all-wheel drive and their model-specific chassis technology – including M Sport braking system, near-actuator wheel slip limitation and mechanical differential lock at the front axle – with the exclusive design features of the new special edition.

Munich. BMW has honed the track-inspired characteristics of its four-cylinder high-performance model for the premium compact segment. Detail upgrades to its chassis components endow the BMW M135i xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 7.8 – 7.3 l/100 km [36.2 – 38.7 mpg imp] as per WLTP; CO2 emissions combined: 177 – 167 g/km as per WLTP) with noticeably enhanced performance qualities. And the retuned drive soundtrack in the cabin makes the driving experience even more emotionally engaging.

The standout power of the 225 kW/306 hp four-cylinder unit with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology under the bonnet of the BMW M135i xDrive is harnessed more effectively than ever to produce the captivating dynamics and driving experience for which BMW is renowned. Detailed set-up modifications for the bespoke chassis technology result in even better mounting, ensuring precisely controllable driving characteristics even when pushing hard on the track. The optimised traction enables drivers to explore the car’s performance limits with confidence, especially when cornering at extremely high speeds.

Sharper cornering dynamics thanks to optimised camber values, new mounts, and precision tuning of spring and damping systems.

The camber values for the front wheels of the BMW M135i xDrive have been increased to optimise absorption of lateral forces when powering through corners. The mounts for the trailing and control arms at the rear axle have also been redesigned. At the same time, the spring and damping systems have undergone recalibration. The result is a significant improvement in roll behaviour in corners, which has a further beneficial effect on steering feel when the car’s sporting abilities are put to the test.

This latest raft of modifications reinforces the commitment of the BMW M135i xDrive to delivering BMW’s hallmark driving pleasure. Its chassis technology combines with the engine’s extremely sporty performance characteristics and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive to create a flawlessly composed overall package for a richly engaging drive. The compact BMW M model comes as standard with near-actuator wheel slip limitation integrated into the engine control unit. The resultant shortening of the signal paths allows traction to be controlled up to ten times faster than with conventional systems when pulling away, on slippery surfaces and during dynamic cornering. The BMW M135i xDrive additionally benefits from a mechanical limited-slip differential at the front axle. Built into the car’s standard eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, it enhances traction and directional stability along with agility and cornering dynamics. With locking factors of 36 per cent when accelerating and 26 per cent on the overrun, the differential is capable of transferring extra torque to the front wheel with better grip as and when required. The customary Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) functions are complemented in the BMW M135i xDrive by Performance Control, which optimises the car’s steering behaviour with judicious applications of the brakes.

Specially tuned M Sport steering and exceptionally powerful M Sport brakes can also be found on the standard equipment list for the BMW M135i xDrive. The compact sports car leaves the factory on 18-inch M light-alloy wheels as standard, with the option of 19-inch light-alloy items available in a variety of designs.

Dramatic acoustic experience in the cabin.

The twin-tailpipe exhaust system facilitates power delivery from the engine with its reduced backpressure, while also producing a characterful acoustic accompaniment. The distinctive, emotion-stirring sound is also transmitted into the interior, where it is carefully amplified through the audio system’s speakers.

The revised soundtrack conveys the signature four-cylinder engine note of a BMW M model to those on board more authentically than ever. The instant response to every movement of the accelerator is translated into corresponding acoustic signals. From the powerful building of torque under acceleration through to the drop-off in load on the overrun, the power unit’s operating state is clearly discernible at all times. Starting the engine prompts a sound composition specially created for this model, adding another facet to the rich acoustic experience inside the car.

New paint finishes for a high-impact look.

A new selection of particularly striking paint finishes has been introduced to accompany the performance enhancements and underscore the individual character of the BMW M135i xDrive. BMW Individual paint finishes and special customer requests can also now be incorporated into the manufacturing process at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, where the compact model is built. The special colours require additional servicing and technical support work, with an increased number of manual processes. To cater for this, an existing paint shop was modified and the number of employees working there increased by ten.

The BMW Individual paint finishes bring even greater visual impact to the high-performance model’s modern design language and bespoke styling features. New additions to the range of exterior colours for the BMW M135i xDrive include the M paint shade Sao Paulo Yellow non-metallic, as well as the Frozen Orange metallic and Frozen Pure Grey finishes.

Munich. The sales launch of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 in November 2021 marks the beginning of a new era of purely electric premium mobility. In addition to sustainable driving pleasure, the two new models also offer the latest innovations in the field of driver assistance systems and, with the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system, represent the future of intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. Parallel to this, the BMW model range will also undergo targeted further development in autumn 2021. Additional drive variants and innovations in the areas of design and digital services increase the diversity and attractiveness of the current range.

The model range of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will be expanded by three new drive variants from November 2021. In future, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission will be standard equipment for one additional model variant each of the BMW X1 and the BMW X2. New paint finishes are available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 models. The functional scope of the My BMW App is complemented by further digital services. The BMW i brand is not only setting trends with its two new models. The pioneer of all-electric premium mobility, the BMW i3, will be offered in a limited Unique Forever Edition from November 2021. And in the BMW iX3, a predictive battery heat management system will optimise the way in which DC fast charging stations will be used in the future.

BMW 4 Series Convertible: Two additional BMW M automobiles and a further all-wheel drive model.
The combination of sporty performance and open-air pleasure in a BMW 4 Series model will be enriched even further in autumn 2021. In the new BMW M 440i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 190 - 175 g/km according to WLTP), a 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensures particularly purist driving pleasure by transferring its power to the rear wheels. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential in the final drive also contribute to the thrilling driving dynamics as standard. This is reflected, among other things, by accerlation from 0 - 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

An inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system make the second new BMW M automobile a thrilling open-top drive. With a peak output of 250 kW/340 hp, a maximum torque of 700 Nm and 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the new BMW M440d xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 172 - 157 g/km according to WLTP) has impressive pulling power. 5.0 seconds are sufficient for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential are also standard equipment in this model variant.

In addition, the model range for the open-top four-seater in the premium mid-size segment is expanded to include the new BMW 430i xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 – 7.3 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 183 - 166 g/km according to WLTP). With its 180 kW/245 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and the M sports differential are optionally available for this model.

BMW X1 xDrive18d and BMW X2 xDrive18d now feature 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Driving pleasure and comfort will be enhanced in autumn 2021 as the 8-speed Steptronic transmission is included in further model variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 as standard. The fast and efficient automatic transmission is characterised by a high level of shifting comfort and a particularly favourable internal efficiency. In future, it will also be available as standard with the 110 kW/150 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine of the BMW X1 xDrive18d models (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 142 g/km according to WLTP) and the BMW X2 xDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 142 g/km according to WLTP).

With the new drive combination, both models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. An optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available, operated by paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

New paint finishes for numerous model series.
New paint finishes for numerous current BMW models allow for additional customisation opportunities. The Skyscraper Grey metallic variant will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 from November 2021. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as Aventurine Red metallic for the BMW X3 and the BMW X4.

My BMW App with extended range of functions.
Planning travel routes and transferring them to the car, receiving information about the car’ status and live images from its surroundings, arranging service appointments or receiving news from the brand - the My BMW app makes all this possible on the customer's smartphone. It serves as a universal interface for communication between car and customer, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. The range of functions of the My BMW App will be expanded again in autumn 2021. In future, for example, the images transmitted by the Remote 3D View service will be stored in a gallery, including information about the location and time of the shots. The status of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation is now also clearly displayed in the My BMW app.

In addition, the My BMW app now also provides the driver with comprehensive information on the condition of the vehicle's tyres on his or her smartphone. The so-called digital tyre diagnosis helps to minimise the risk of flat tyres and is available for a wide range of models (currently BMW 1 Series, 2 Series Coupé, 2 Series Gran Coupé, 3 Series, 4 Series, Z4) and for the new i4 and iX models. The individual tyre inflation pressures determined by the tyre pressure control are now also displayed in the My BMW app. In addition, the digital tyre diagnosis, which is unique in the competitive environment, can transfer early signs of a gradual tyre pressure loss or wear to the My BMW app and the vehicle. For this, the BMW back end uses an AI approach to process data from the tyres to create a forecast of the remaining distance of the tyres. In all cases, the customer receives appropriate recommendations for action.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW iX3.
To ensure the fastest and most efficient power feed at DC fast-charging stations, regardless of operating and outside temperatures, the BMW iX3 (combined power consumption: 19.0 - 18.6 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 17.8 - 17.5 kWh/100 km according to NEDC) will be equipped with a pre-heating function for the high-voltage battery from November 2021. At the customer's request, it ensures that the battery is preconditioned while driving to a direct current (DC) charging station. By heating up the high-voltage battery accordingly, the ideal temperature for charging with maximum power is set on arrival. Among other things, the battery temperature, the remaining range and the state of charge of the battery are taken into account.

BMW i3 and BMW i3s in the Unique Forever Edition.
From November 2021, the BMW i3 models (combined electricity consumption: 16.3 - 15.3 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 13.1 kWh/100 km according to NEDC and BMW i3s (combined electricity consumption: 16.6 - 16.3 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 14.6 - 14.0 kWh/100 km according to NEDC) in the Unique Forever Edition. The naming of the new special edition refers to the unique character of the world's first premium automobile designed from the outset for purely electric mobility. The BMW i3 represents a holistic understanding of sustainability not only with its drive system, but also with its particularly lightweight passenger cell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and extensive use of natural and recycled materials in its interior. Eight years after being launched on the market, it is still a globally recognised symbol of locally emission-free urban mobility.

The edition vehicles are characterised by particularly high-grade and exclusive design and equipment features. The two BMW Individual paint finishes, available for the first time for the BMW i3, ensure a stylish appearance. The Aventurine Red metallic variant is combined with an accent in Frozen Grey metallic and the Storm Bay metallic paint finish with an accent in Frozen E-Copper. The interior surfaces of the BMW grille are also finished in the respective accent colour. Other special features include the omission of the trim strip and model lettering on the luggage compartment lid and a black insert for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the Suite equipment world - including the Vernasca Dark Truffle leather combination, the leather instrument panel, the fine wood surface in dark matt oak, the leather steering wheel, the Carum grey roof lining and the ambient lighting - are supplemented by specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the words "Unique Forever", the door trim panels in the area of the exterior mirrors bear the inscription "One of 2,000“.

The Unique Forever Edition models are produced in a limited edition of 2,000 units at the BMW plant in Leipzig. Only electricity generated by the wind turbines on the factory premises is used. 350 of the sustainably manufactured edition vehicles are available for the German market.

It is positioned between the BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km [48.7 – 51.4 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 134 – 126 g/km*) and the range-topping BMW M135i xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 – 6.3 l/100 km [42.2 – 44.8 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 155 – 145 g/km*).
• Market launch will take place in November 2020, with prices in Germany starting at €41,574.79 (incl. 16% VAT).
• With its specially tuned M Sport suspension (lowered by 10 millimetres), a Torsen limited-slip differential and a bespoke steering application, the exclusively front-wheel-drive compact sports model is focused squarely on highly engaging driving pleasure.
• The BMW 128ti carries over the firmer anti-roll bars and anti-roll bar mounts with high preload from the BMW M135i xDrive. Stiffer springs and shock absorbers adapted accordingly provide excellent driving dynamics. In addition, the front-wheel-drive 128ti is around 80 kilograms lighter than the flagship model.
• The 2.0-litre engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology is a direct offshoot of the variant in the BMW M135i xDrive – the BMW Group’s most powerful four-cylinder unit – and develops 195 kW (265 hp). The eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission is fitted as standard.
• As in the BMW M135i xDrive, the standard-fitted M Sport braking system with red-painted brake callipers (a first for a BMW 1 Series model) provides good braking performance. The 18-inch Y‑spoke 553 M bi-colour light-alloy wheels are reserved exclusively for the BMW 128ti, while sport tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 4) can be specified as a no-cost option.
• Exclusive distinguishing features on the inside and outside of the BMW 128ti give the car a distinctive appearance. Taking the M Sport model as a basis, it adds specific covers and trim mouldings, side skirt trim and a “ti” badge ahead of the rear wheels in a sporting red colour. If the BMW 128ti is ordered with the Melbourne Red or Misano Blue metallic paint finishes, the accents and “ti” badge (which can be deleted, if desired) come in black.
• Standard specification in Germany includes extended Shadowline trim with black BMW kidney grille and black mirror caps, while the optional BMW Individual lights Shadowline for the headlights creates a darker appearance, helped by the absence of various chrome trim elements.
• The interior also contains a host of red accents, including a large Race Red surface in the backrests of the standard sport seats, the embroidered “ti” badge in the central armrest and contrast stitching in the other armrests, door panels and instrument panels. The steering wheel rim and airbag cover in the M Sport steering wheel feature red stitching.
• The BMW 128ti breathes new life into a long tradition at BMW. Since the 1960s the “TI” (later “ti”) badge has stood for “Turismo Internazionale” and marks out particularly sporty models – from the iconic BMW 1800 TI and BMW 2002 TI to the BMW 323ti Compact and BMW 325ti Compact of the late 1990s.

Increased efficiency through consistent electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Active speed control with Stop&Go provides an added comfort and safety thanks to the new additional feature of traffic light recognition, which will be part of the Driving Assistant Professional option in numerous current models from November 2020.

The latest digital services for models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 increase driving pleasure even further. BMW News provides the driver with personalised audio news. New options when creating the driver profile make it easier to personalise the vehicle. The range of functions of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will also be expanded further. New body finishes and optional extras will be available for numerous models from November 2020.

Efficiency becomes more diverse: World premiere for five plug-in hybrid models in the BMW 5 Series.

The range of BMW models with electrified drive systems will also be consistently expanded in autumn 2020. The expanded range of the following electrified models is especially attractive: BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 53 – 49 g/km; electric range: 47 – 57 km), BMW 530e Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 46 – 42 g/km; electric range: 52 – 57 km (WLTP)) and BMW 530e xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 50 g/km; electric range: 48 – 53 km (WLTP)). The BMW 5 Series model range now already includes five plug-in hybrid variants. In the upper mid-size class, BMW offers the largest selection of models with electrified drive.

In the new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission deliver impressive driving dynamics in a particularly efficient manner. The power of the two drive units adds up to a maximum system output of 290 kW/394 hp and is distributed between the front and rear wheels as required by the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. The brand’s hallmark combination of energy efficiency and sportiness also characterises the new Touring models, whose plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive system also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they generate a system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp in the XtraBoost mode when load requirements are particularly high.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional models, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. This is linked to the introduction of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder diesel engines. As of autumn 2020, four mid-size models of the BMW 3 Series and three luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series will offer noticeably more dynamic performance and increased efficiency.

This twofold and BMW typical progress is achieved through further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and additionally with the aid of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency. The power required for this is generated by intensive recuperation in braking and thrust phases and stored in a 48-volt battery, which also supplies the vehicle’s electrical system.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used in four further BMW 3 Series models from November 2020. In the new BMW 330d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 125 – 116 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 132 – 123 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 119 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 4.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 136 – 127 g/km), it supports the new inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, which already provides additional driving pleasure with its maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp. Thanks to a two-stage turbocharging system and an advanced common rail injection system whose piezo injectors now inject the fuel with up to ten injections per working cycle and a maximum pressure of 2 700 bar into the combustion chambers, engine response and efficiency of the 3.0 litre engine are optimised. The new diesel engine generates its maximum torque, which has been increased by 30 to 650 Nm, between 1 500 and 2 500 rpm. The increased power of the combustion engine and the additional electrical power noticeably improve the car’s sprint capacity. For example, the new BMW 330d Sedan improves its acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds to now 5.3 seconds.

In the BMW 8 Series, 48-volt mild hybrid technology is combined with an equally new and even more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine. The BMW 840d xDrive Coupé models (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 154 - 146 g/km), BMW 840d xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 6.0 – 5.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 151 g/km) and BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 155 - 148 g/km) will be powered by a 250 kW/340 hp inline 6-cylinder engine in the future. The 15 kW/20 hp increase in top-level output also results from further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It now includes a multi-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for the high-pressure and low-pressure stages. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is generated alreadybetween 1 750 and 2 250 rpm. In the luxury sports car model range, the new drive technology enables the BMW 840d xDrive Coupé, for example, to improve its acceleration figure from a standing start to 100 km/h by 0.1 seconds to 4.8 seconds. The optimised performance characteristics of the diesel engine are accompanied by precisely adapted fine tuning of the chassis and its control systems.

The new diesel engines for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 8 Series also represent the latest state of the art with regard to emissions. They feature exhaust gas treatment technology, whose engine-proximate components consist of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. In order to optimally reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, a second metering unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-proximate SCR system.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Additional engines and new optional extras.

New engines will be available from November 2020 for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The new BMW 116i (combined fuel consumption: 5.8 – 5.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 – 124 g/km) is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 80 kW/109 hp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm. It is equipped as standard with a manual 6-speed transmission and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available. In addition, the model range will be expanded to include the new BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 134 – 126 g/km). Its 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum output of 131 kW/178 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm and is combined as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The new BMW 120i accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outstanding economy is the hallmark of the new entry-level diesel engine for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The 3-cylinder diesel engine of the new BMW 216d Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 3.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 108 – 99 g/km) provides a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. It transmits its power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The range of optional equipment for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. With the black inserts at the upper edge of the headlamps they make the front view even more powerfully expressive.

Active speed control with Stop&Go: new with traffic light recognition: Increased comfort and optimised safety in urban traffic.

The comfort and safety gains that can be achieved by combined speed and distance control can be experienced from autumn 2020 in numerous current BMW models, including when driving in urban traffic. In combination with the optional Driving Assistant Professional and the optional BMW Head-Up Display, the BMW 3 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW 5 Series Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series and 8 Series as well as the BMW iX3, BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW M3, BMW M4, BMW M5, BMW M8, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M in Germany the function of active speed control with Stop&Go now also a traffic light recognition available. In addition to vehicles and traffic signs in front, the signals of light signals registered by the front camera are also taken into account.

In the case of simple traffic light systems, these are automatically transferred to the speed and distance control. If the traffic light shows a red light, the system delays the vehicle to a standstill, a green light signal leads to the continuation of the journey. In a more complex intersection situation, the driver is offered the traffic lights for manual transfer in the instrument combination.

The driver can now confirm the light signal shown and thus continue to use the automatic speed and distance control or take control of the speed himself. The start-up reminder provides additional comfort in city traffic. During a stop at simple traffic lights, the current traffic light phase is displayed in the instrument combo, and at the beginning of the green phase, the driver also receives a signal to restart.

The function of traffic light recognition can also be retrofitted into the vehicle via remote software upgrade. With the exception of the BMW 8 Series models, this option is available for vehicles of all mentioned series, which were produced from July 2020 and are equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional and Head Up Display. Vehicles of the BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7 series include this option from August 2020 production.

New digital services for more driving pleasure: BMW News, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with new functions, personal profile picture and simple log-in.

The latest generation of the display and control system makes it possible to use new digital services in numerous current BMW models. The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows the driver to customise what is displayed to a very high degree. From November 2020, audio content will also be tailored to the driver’s wishes and needs with BMW News. Based on the driver’s individual interests, current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is one of the particularly innovative services that features in current models with BMW Operating System 7. The digital companion, which enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”), is constantly gaining new capabilities. From autumn 2020, the operating modes MAX eDrive and AUTO eDrive or ELECTRIC and HYBRID can also be activated in the appropriately equipped plug-in hybrid models by means of a naturally spoken instruction. In addition, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will be able to play back the drive sounds of other BMW models via the audio system when asked a corresponding question such as ("What does a BMW M3 sound like?") in cars delivered to the German market.

Optimised options for creating a driver profile allow further customisation opportunities. From November 2020, the driver can no longer only login by entering the BMW ID manually, but also via the My BMW App as well, making the process very convenient. A QR code generated for this purpose can be displayed on the Control Display, which can be scanned using a smartphone. The personal driver profile data can then be transferred to the vehicle. Also new: The driver can add a photo of his choice to his individual profile.

BMW X1 and BMW X2: New headlamp variants and BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features.

Adaptive LED headlights will be available for the compact BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupé from November 2020. They optimise visibility when driving at night, among other things by means of a high beam matrix function. This feature is able to increase the range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users. To achieve this, the high beam is divided into several LED segments that can be activated and deactivated independently of each other to adapt how the road is illuminated to the respective traffic situation.

In addition, the striking BMW Individual Shadow Line lights are available as a new option for the BMW X2 and the BMW X1. The sporty appearance of the BMW X2 can be further enhanced by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features. In addition to the high-gloss black side window surrounds, this option includes a black frame for the BMW kidney grille and tailpipe trims in chrome black.

New paint finishes allow for expressive individualisation.

New additions to the range of paint finishes for numerous models will be introduced in autumn 2020 allowing for even greater levels of individualisation. The new San Remo Green metallic paint finish will also be available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé in future. For the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, the colours Dravit Grey metallic and Sparkling Brown metallic have been added to the range. In addition, the BMW Individual special paintwork finishes Grigio Telesto metallic, Urban Green metallic, Frozen Black metallic, Petrol Mica metallic, Ruby Red metallic, Avus Blue metallic and British Racing Green metallic are also available for the large BMW X models. 

For the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) new paint finishes will also be available from November 2020. The purely electrically driven models will be available with paint finishes in Cashmere Silver with accents in BMW i Blue and Galvanic Gold with accents in Frozen Grey metallic and Fluid Black with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.

During its final test phase, the new compact sports car BMW 128ti (combined fuel consumption: 6.4 – 6,1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 148 – 139 g/km*) is currently undergoing thorough calibration test drives on the hilly roads of the Eifel around the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring and, of course, also directly on the world’s most demanding racetrack. A special focus lies on the dynamic handling characteristics of the new variant of the BMW 1 Series, which has been consistently designed for active driving pleasure. The new model will be brought to market in November 2020.

Sports car with a character of its own.
The front-wheel drive BMW 128ti is positioned directly below the top-of-the-range model of the BMW 1 Series, the BMW M135i xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 7.1 – 6.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 154 g/km) and also features its newly developed 2-litre engine. The four-cylinder with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology beneath the bonnet of the BMW 128ti has a power output of 195 kW (265 bhp), facilitating sporty driving performance such as the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. However, the new BMW 128ti is much more than just a new BMW 1 Series variant. In addition to many differentiating exterior and interior features, the entire suspension and steering were specifically tuned to offer extremely sporty and driver-oriented driving dynamics. Consequently, the new, exclusively front-wheel drive sports car addresses a particularly young target group with a focus on typical BMW driving pleasure.

Technical highlights for high precision and direct response.
The new BMW 128ti comes as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential, providing for better traction on the front axle. It has a specifically tuned M sport suspension including lowering by 10mm as well as BMW Performance Control, which has been specially adapted for increased agility. Furthermore, the steering has been specifically aligned to the vehicle for precise reactions, providing the driver with direct response. Moreover, the BMW 128ti is around 80 kilos lighter than the four-wheel drive BMW M135i xDrive, from which it takes the highly pre-stressed stabiliser bearing and the stabilisers. Sports tyres are optionally available to the customer at no extra charge and guarantee even more driving pleasure. M sport brakes known from the top-of-the-range model guarantee braking characteristics that match the driving performance.

Munich. With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant. With the optional smartphone integration, numerous current BMW models will enable use of Android Auto in addition to Apple CarPlay as of summer 2020.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. Emergency Lane Assistant is another new function: this automatically guides the vehicle to the ideal edge of its lane in congested situations on motorways. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

Optimised smartphone integration: Android Auto can now also be used in the vehicle in addition to Apple CarPlay.
Depending on the model series, either standard or optional smartphone integration will enable use not just of Apple CarPlay but also of the digital services provided by Android Auto in numerous current BMW models as of summer 2020. This means that owners of a smartphone with the Android operating system can now access their familiar smartphone apps in the vehicle, just like users of an Apple iPhone. These include the digital voice assistant Google Assistant, the map service Google Maps, music streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music, and the messaging service WhatsApp.

The systems are integrated directly in the vehicle's display and control system via a wireless LAN connection between the respective smartphone and the vehicle. Here, the driver can view all the important information from the apps on the Control Display and also navigation directions in the instrument cluster and the optional Head-Up Display.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

Extended Business Package for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, new body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
The Business Package available for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer provides enhanced comfort and driving pleasure in city traffic as well as on lengthier trips. From July 2020 onwards it also includes Real Time Traffic Information. Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

Munich. From the spring of 2020, BMW will contribute towards a further reduction of consumption levels and the optimisation of the emission performance of current models through the use of systematically evolved drive technology. In parallel with the expansion of the range of models featuring all-electric and plug-in hybrid drive scheduled to follow during the course of the year, both the efficiency and the exhaust emission quality of petrol-driven vehicles will be significantly increased.  This is ensured, inter alia, by innovative mild hybrid technology which, following the BMW 5 Series, will as from March/April also be deployed in the BMW 3 Series as well as the model series BMW X3 and BMW X4. At the same time, in the spring of 2020, 33 further BMW models will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not become obligatory until 2021.

A further drive variant for the BMW 1 Series as well as additional engines for the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring will enhance the diversity of available options in the premium compact and premium midrange segment. Additional options for interior design provide for greater individuality in the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

Electric pulling power for efficiency and dynamics: Mild hybrid technology with 48-volt starter generator for further models. 

BMW is extending the use of mild hybrid technology to further models. This innovation, first introduced in the autumn of 2019 for the four model variants of the BMW 520d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 108 g/km), comprises an extremely powerful 48-volt starter generator as well as an additional battery, and enhances both efficiency and dynamics of vehicles equipped with this technology. As from the spring of 2020, mild hybrid technology will also be featured as standard in the models BMW 320d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.1 – 4.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 107 – 105 g/km), the BMW 320d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.3 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 109 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.4 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 117 – 114 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 119 – 117 g/km), the BMW X3 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 134 – 126 g/km) and the BMW X4 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 133 – 125 g/km).

Mild hybrid technology provides significantly greater possibilities to make use of brake energy recuperation. The energy recuperated when accelerating and braking is not only used to provide electrically powered vehicle functions with energy but also to generate additional drive power. The 48-volt starter generator delivers an additional power output of up to 8 kW/11 hp. The electric over-boost is made available very spontaneously, thus enhancing dynamics when starting off and accelerating from a standstill.  During the journey, the electric over-boost can be used to support the combustion engine, enabling it to run as frequently as possible within an efficiency-optimised load range and to reduce consumption peaks. Moreover, when driving within inefficient operational ranges, it is possible to supply the 48-volt battery with additional energy from the starter generator by raising the load point when required.

Furthermore, the 48-volt starter generator provides for exceptionally smooth switching off as well as a faster and thus more comfortable re-starting of the combustion engine when the Auto Start Stop function is used at road junctions or in traffic jams. When the vehicle decelerates, the combustion engine can be disconnected at a speed of less than 15 km/h. The kinetic energy gained when decelerating further to a standstill is then used for recuperation. The efficiency-enhancing effect of the “coasting” function has also been optimised. At a speed of up to 160 km/h, the combustion engine is no longer switched into idle mode but is completely disconnected. During the journey, engine re-start is also fast and comfortable. The optimised “coasting” function is available both in the COMFORT and ECO-PRO modes of the Driving Experience Switch.

Optimised emission performance: 40 BMW models now already fulfil the future Euro 6d emission standard.

With yet a further optimisation of the emission performance of numerous models, BMW is preparing well in advance for future legal requirements governing exhaust emissions. As from the spring of 2020, 33 further models from various model series will fulfil the Euro 6d exhaust emission standard. Consequently, 40 BMW models comply with the demands specified by the more stringent standard a year prior to the new emission regulation coming into force.

The vehicles that will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard as from the spring of 2020 include model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 3 Series as well as the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and the BMW X6.

New drive variants for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring.

Starting in March 2020, additional drive variants will increase the diversity of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series model range. The BMW 120d (combined fuel consumption: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 121 – 112 g/km) will be added to the model range in the premium compact segment. The power generated by the car’s 2-litre, 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel power unit featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing the new BMW 120d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 231 km/h. The new BMW 120d is one of the models that already fulfil the Euro 6d emission standard.

A new four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 2 litres and BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology complements the drive portfolio for the new BMW 3 Series. The power unit for the new BMW 318i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.7 – 5.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 130 – 120 g/km) and the new BMW 318i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 140 – 130 g/km) delivers a maximum power output of 115 kW/156 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The standard equipment range for the new BMW 3 Series entry model includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ is 8.4 seconds for the Sedan and 8.7 seconds for the Touring model. Top speed is 223 km/h (BMW 318i Sedan) and 220 km/h (BMW 318i Touring) respectively.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with extended standard configuration, additional offer of leather options and interior trims for the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

From March 2020, a broader range of standard features will enhance comfort in the luxury-class models of the BMW 7 Series and the BMW 8 Series. In future, BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars as well as the high-performance models BMW M8 Competition Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 242 g/km), BMW M8 Competition Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 246 g/km) and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 244 g/km) will be equipped with an automatic soft-close function for the doors.

Thanks to a wider selection of leather options and interior trims, there are now new possibilities to individualise the models BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. As from April, the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Canberra Beige is additionally available for these three models. In the future, the BMW X6 can be ordered with the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Cognac. Likewise available for the Sports Activity Coupe are the extended BMW Individual leather options Merino in the colours Tartufo and Ivory White and the colour combination Ivory White/Night Blue as well as the BMW Individual all-leather interior trim Merino in the colours Coffee and Tartufo. Also new in the range of options for the BMW X6: High-grade Poplar Grain, Anthracite-Brown, open-pored.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. The figures are calculated using a vehicle fitted with basic equipment in Germany, the ranges stated take into account differences in selected wheel and tyre sizes as well as the optional equipment. They may change during configuration.

The figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle and adapted to NEDC for comparison purposes. In these vehicles, different figures than those published here may apply for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions.

Munich. With its modern suspension, innovative technologies and powerful engines, the new BMW 1 Series (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 3.8 l/100 km [39.8 – 74.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 162 – 100 g/km*) sets a new benchmark in the premium compact class in terms of driving dynamics. As such, the distinctive character and outstanding agility of the third engine generation ensures an unmistakable sporty driving experience ex works. However, this can be intensified even further: as soon after the market launch of the new BMW 1 Series, an extensive range of exclusive M Performance Parts is available that allow the car’s sporty appearance and dynamic potential to be given an additional boost. As is customary for BMW, all components are harmonised with each other and with the specific character of the new model. In addition to enhancing the car’s sporty, dynamic appearance on the exterior in particular, the parts also meet functional requirements in terms of lightweight construction and aerodynamics. This is not least due to the extensive racing expertise contributed by BMW M GmbH to the development of the M Performance components.

Sporty lightness: aerodynamic and exterior components.
Various lightweight construction parts in a new carbon fibre look and components in high-gloss black underscore the car’s sporty appearance while at the same time highlighting the lines of the body. What is more, the M Performance front splitter, the horizontal-flow rear spoiler and the aero flicks in high-gloss black optimise aerodynamics, thereby enhancing the talents of the compact 5-door model in the area of driving dynamics. The same applies to the high-gloss black side sill insert and the rear diffuser in lightweight carbon fibre. All M Performance components were developed especially for the new BMW 1 Series and perfectly harmonised in the wind tunnel. The high-quality carbon fibre components are crafted elaborately by hand before being sealed with a clear finish and given a high-gloss polish. This also applies to the M Performance exterior mirror caps, whose high-tech character provides an attractive eye-catcher. BMW M Performance Parts also offers the new M kidney grille with mesh design as a retrofitting solution.

Highlights the proportions: lettering in Frozen Black.
In addition, the range of M Performance Parts also includes options to further refine the car's sporty exterior design. The side lettering in Frozen Black highlights the model's new proportions, for example, adding an attractive accentuation to the body. The decor set with striking colouring and M Performance inscription goes perfectly with the other mounted parts, individually highlighting the car’s sporty character. As a supplement to this, the vehicle front can be refined with lettering in high-gloss black.

For powerful deceleration: 18-inch M Performance sports brake.
In keeping with its increased driving dynamics, the new BMW 1 Series can also be fitted with an 18-inch M Performance sports brake system, whose striking characteristics are enhanced deceleration performance and increased thermal resilience – even in extreme conditions. The brake’s attractive appearance with calipers finished in red provides a perfect match for the car’s sporty design style; this is showcased especially effectively in combination with an open wheel design. As compared to the standard brake system, the front axle has larger inner-vented, perforated discs in lightweight design which are powerfully gripped by 4-piston fixed calipers. The amply sized calipers are made of a aluminium alloy so as to save weight. The rear axle features matching lightweight construction brake discs with single-piston floating caliper.

All-round perfection: sporty complete wheel sets in 18 and 19 inches.
Matching the sports brake, BMW offers the high-quality M Performance forged wheel Y-Spoke 554M in an 18-inch format. This weight-optimised summerwheel in Jet Black matt features a multicoloured graphic print that perfectly showcases the M Performance inscription and M logo. The light alloy wheel Y-Spoke 711M in Ferric Grey is likewise available in an 18-inch format. This winter wheel is suitable for use with snow chains and can also be combined with the M Performance sports brake. The range also includes the 19-inch M Performance light alloy wheel Double Spoke 555M in bicolour look, which is available as a complete wheel set for use in summer.

The M Performance wheel bags are recommended as a practical solution for storing and transporting these high-quality wheels. They protect the driver and vehicle from soiling and are convenient for loading due to their reinforced handles. Markings ensure rapid wheel allocation, while the attractive M Performance design creates a racing atmosphere even in the garage at home.

Sporty flair directly on entry: LED door projectors with M Performance motifs.
The BMW door projectors provide a sporty welcome even when the doors are opened. With the three different motives included in the M Performance slide set it is possible to have the BMW M logo or other graphics projected onto the ground next to the vehicle. The lighting not only ensures comfort and safety when entering and exiting the vehicle, it also creates a very exclusive, distinctive atmosphere. The sporty motifs are clearly perceptible, even at dusk.

Pure racing feeling: sporty highlights in the cockpit.
Distinctive touches of sporty enhancement are also available for the interior of the new BMW 1 Series. The M Performance steering wheel with distinctive Alcantara grip area and large thumbrest offers genuine racing feeling, for example. In addition to the steering wheel's pleasant touch combined with an excellent grip, visual accentuations are provided by the red marking at the 12 o’clock position and the silver-grey hand-sewn cross-stitching. The steering wheel’s sporty high-tech character can be further enhanced with the M Performance steering wheel trim, for which there is a choice between carbon fibre/Alcantara and carbon fibre/leather. In both cases, the 6 o’clock detail bears the M Performance inscription. There is an additional option for vehicles with Steptronic sports transmission: high-quality M Performance carbon fibre shift paddles can be selected to further enhance the motor racing atmosphere in the cockpit.

Finally, another attractive supplement for vehicles with sporty M Performance fittings is provided by the high-quality velvet velour floor mats with embroidered M Performance inscription, a leather-look surround complete with contrasting seam and a pennant in the typical M colours blue, light blue and red. In addition to their sporty look, the non-slip and high-grip floor mats provide an excellent fit.

Munich. New items of optional equipment and additional engine variants will increase the appeal and variety of the BMW model line-up in autumn 2018. A new variant powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine will be added to the BMW X1 and BMW X2 ranges from November 2018. And there will also be newcomers to the drive system portfolio for the BMW X3. A large number of additional BMW models will meet the Euro 6d-TEMP exhaust standard from autumn 2018. This means more than 190 BMW models will now conform with the emissions regulations not due to come into force for all newly registered cars until September 2019.

The Edition M Sport Shadow available for the BMW 1 Series range from November 2018 exudes a particularly dynamic allure. Also in November 2018, the Advantage Plus model will be added to the BMW X2 range. The functionality of the optional Comfort Access will be optimised for many current BMW models. And from autumn 2018 there will be more ways to use the BMW Digital Key. Keyless access to the car will be possible not only using a compatible mobile phone, but also with the new Key Card from BMW.

New model variants for the BMW X1 and BMW X2.
A new variant with a four-cylinder diesel engine and front-wheel drive will be added to both the BMW X1 and BMW X2 model ranges from November 2018. The new BMW X1 sDrive20d (fuel consumption combined: 4.6 l/100 km [61.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 122 g/km) and BMW X2 sDrive20d (fuel consumption combined: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km [60.1 – 64.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 123 – 115 g/km) will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, whose 140 kW/190 hp is channelled to the front wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Both models accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.9 seconds.

Added to which, from autumn 2018 the 110 kW/150 hp four-cylinder diesel engine in the BMW X2 xDrive18d can also link up as an option with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. In this configuration, the BMW X2 xDrive18d will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.4 seconds, and post combined fuel consumption of 4.9 – 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres (57.7 – 60.1 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 130 – 123 grams per kilometre

More than 190 BMW models now meet the Euro 6d-TEMP exhaust standard.

Around 190 BMW models have met the requirements of the exacting Euro 6d-TEMP exhaust standard – which comes into force for all newly registered cars in September 2019 – since July 2018. The cars concerned range from conventionally powered models with petrol or diesel engines to BMW i and BMW iPerformance models and the high-performance sports cars from BMW M GmbH. The petrol-engined models are fitted with a gasoline particulate filter to minimise their emissions, while exhaust gas treatment for the diesel models comprises a diesel particulate filter, a NOx storage catalyst and an SCR catalyst with AdBlue injection to reduce nitric oxide emissions.

In autumn 2018 the line-up of models equipped to meet the future emissions standard will expand once again. The BMW 530d Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.2 – 5.1l/100 km [54.3 – 55.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 138 – 134  g/km) and BMW 530d Touring (fuel consumption combined: 5.5 – 5.3 l/100 km [51.4 – 53.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 144 – 140 g/km), the BMW 530d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.6 – 5.4  l/100 km [50.4 – 52.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 146 – 143 g/km) and BMW 530d xDrive Touring (fuel consumption combined: 5.9 – 5.8 l/100 km [47.9 – 48.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 156 – 153 g/km), the BMW 540d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.7 – 5.6  l/100 km [49.6 – 50.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 149 – 147 g/km) and BMW 540d xDrive Touring (fuel consumption combined: 6.0 – 5.9 l/100 km [47.1 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 159 – 156 g/km), the BMW M550d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.4 – 6.3  l/100 km [44.1 – 44.8 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 168 – 166 g/km) and BMW M550d xDrive Touring (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 – 6.5 l/100 km [42.8 – 43.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 174 – 172 g/km) will now also meet the tougher regulations. The BMW 630d Gran Turismo (fuel consumption combined: 5.5 – 5.3 l/100 km [51.4 – 53.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 145 – 139 g/km), the BMW 630d xDrive Gran Turismo (fuel consumption combined: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km [47.9 – 50.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 155 – 141 g/km) and the BMW 640d xDrive Gran Turismo (fuel consumption combined: 6.2 – 5.9 l/100 km [45.6 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 162 – 157 g/km) also fulfil the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard.

Flying the flag for driving pleasure: the Edition M Sport Shadow for the BMW 1 Series range.

With their powerful engines and either the brand’s customary rear-wheel-drive or intelligent all-wheel drive, the BMW 1 Series models exude a level of sporting prowess unrivalled in the premium compact segment. And the new Edition M Sport Shadow available from November 2018 will highlight the unmistakeable driving pleasure served up by the BMW 1 Series 3-door and BMW 1 Series 5-door to particularly striking effect. The Edition M Sport Shadow replaces the M Sport variant in the line-up and adds a host of new and distinctive features to the outgoing model’s specific design and equipment items for the interior and exterior. These include LED headlights with black inserts, LED front foglamps, dark rear lights, a BMW kidney grille frame in High-gloss Black and exhaust tailpipes in Black Chrome. The Edition M Sport Shadow variant for the BMW 1 Series also includes Jet Black 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design. Inside the car, the aura of sporting flair is accentuated by a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite and exclusive sports seats in textile Corner Anthracite with grey accents.

New equipment line for the BMW X2: the Advantage Plus model.

Eye-catching individuality is a signature character trait of the BMW X2. And the variety of equipment and appointments available for the compact Sports Activity Coupe will expand once again in autumn 2018 with the arrival of the Advantage Plus model. The new equipment line adds the lighting package, sports seats for the driver and front passenger, a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite and interior trim strips in High-gloss Black with accent strips in Pearl-effect Chrome to the otherwise optional automatic climate control, Cruise Control with braking function, Park Distance Control with rear-mounted sensors and automatic boot lid operation already offered by the Advantage model. Meanwhile, the particularly alluring looks of the new model variant are accentuated by Ferric Grey 18-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design with polished finish, BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim, LED headlights with extended features and LED front foglamps.

From November 2018, M sports seats and M seat belts will be available as additional options for BMW X2 models specified with the M Sport or M Sport X equipment line.

BMW Digital Key and BMW Key Card for keyless vehicle access and engine ignition.

The BMW Digital Key available for the new BMW 8 Series Coupe and new BMW X5 (if Comfort Access is specified) allows the car to be unlocked and locked using the customer’s smartphone. Once inside, the engine can be started as soon as the phone has been placed in the wireless charging or smartphone tray. The Digital Key is available as part of the BMW Connected app, can be shared with up to five people and can be used with selected Near Field Communication (NFC)-compatible smartphones. Alternatively, the new BMW Key Card will be available from November 2018. This sophisticated key card likewise has NFC technology and therefore offers the same functionality as a similarly equipped smartphone. The BMW Key Card can also be passed on to the relevant parties if the car is at the workshop, has broken down or the customer is using a valet parking service.

The fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions and electric power consumption figures were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany. The range shown considers the different sizes of the selected wheels/tyres and the selected items of optional equipment, and may vary during configuration.

The values are already based on the new WLTP test cycle and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure comparability between the vehicles. With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle-related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO₂ emissions, the CO₂ values may differ from the values stated here (depending on national legislation).

Munich. BMW continues to consistently pursue the improvement of emissions in all combustion engines in summer 2018. As of July 2018, all petrol and plug-in hybrid models of the brand available in Germany will be fitted as standard with a petrol engine particulate filter and thus will already comply with the exhaust standard Euro 6d-TEMP. BluePerformance Technology including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection has been a standard feature of all BMW diesel models since March 2018. This means they all offer highly efficient, multi-stage exhaust gas treatment consisting of NOx storage catalytic converter and SCR system (Selective Catalytic Reduction). Due to the particularly effective reduction of particulate emissions achieved, these comply with what will then be the most rigorous exhaust standard, namely Euro 6d-TEMP. In addition, another 39 diesel models will be going on the market with Euro 6d-TEMP rating.

Additional model variants of the BMW X3 and the BMW X4 will be available from August 2018 onwards. As early as July 2018 there will be an increase in the number of models in the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW 5 Series which are fitted as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Another newcomer to the model range is the BMW 1 Series Edition Metropolitan.

For the BMW 530e iPerformance Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 2.1 – 1.9 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.113.1 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 49 – 44 g/km), the optional equipment item BMW Wireless Charging will be available ex works from July 2018. The option BMW Connected eDrive Services available for the BMW i and BMW iPerformance automobiles will also include the BMW Digital Charging Service in future. What is more, an aerodynamics package is available for the BMW i8 Roadster (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption 14.5 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 46 g/km).

BMW X3 and BMW X4: new model variations with in-line 6-cylinder engines.

With the premiere of the BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.5 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO2emissions 172 – 169 g/km*), the number of engines available to choose from for the Sports Activity Vehicle in the premium mid-range segment increases to seven. What is more, this newcomer is now the second BMW M Performance model in the series. In the BMW X3 M40d, an in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine generates a peak output of 240 kW/326 hp and a maximum torque of 680 N m already available at 1 750 rpm thanks to multi-stage turbocharging and common rail direct injection with piezo injectors, accelerating the car from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

A second in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine will be offered for the Sports Activity Coupé as of August 2018. The power unit in the new BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 158 – 153 g/km*) generates a peak output of 195 kW/265 hp and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. It takes the car just 5.8 seconds to accelerate from standing to 100 km/h. All new model variants of the BMW X3 and the BMW X4 are fitted as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission.

8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard in additional models.

Fast gearshifts, a high level of shift comfort and excellent efficiency are the benefits of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, now to become a standard feature of numerous additional BMW models as of July 2018. In the premium compact segment, the BMW 120i 3 door and the BMW 120 i 5 door (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 139 – 134 g/km) will also feature automatic gear selection as standard in future. Meanwhile the further enhanced shift dynamics of the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission can be experienced as standard in the BMW M140i 3 door and the BMW M140i 5 door (combined fuel consumption: 7.4 – 7.4 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 169 – 168 g/km).

In the BMW 3 Series, eight additional models will be fitted with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard from July 2018 onwards. These are the BMW 320i Gran Turismo (combined fuel consumption: 6.3 – 6.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 143 – 141 g/km) and the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 6.5 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 148 – 146 g/km), the BMW 320i xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.7 – 6.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 154 – 151 g/km) and the BMW 320i xDrive Gran Turismo (combined fuel consumption: 6.8 – 6.7 l/100 km; combined COCO2 emissions 156 – 152 g/km). The models BMW 330i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 6.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 140 – 137 g/km) and BMW 330i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 145 g/km) and BMW 340i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 7.4 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 168 g/km) and the BMW 340i xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 7.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 174 g/km) will also include an automatic transmission as a standard fitting in the future.

Six model variants of the BMW 4 Series will benefit from the new standard engine-transmission combination, too: the BMW 420i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.4 – 6.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 146 – 143 g/km), the BMW 420i xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 151 – 148 g/km), the BMW 430i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.5 – 6.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 148 – 144 g/km) and the BMW 430i Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 6.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 140 – 137 g/km) and the BMW 440i Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 7.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 170 g/km) and the BMW 440i xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 7.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 174 g/km).

The range of models fitted as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission in future is rounded off with the BMW 520d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.6 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 121 – 117 g/km) and the BMW 520d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 128 – 123 g/km).

Well equipped for the city: BMW 1 Series Edition Metropolitan.

Urban mobility in a premium compact model takes on an extra touch of style in the BMW 1 Series Edition Metropolitan. The Edition model, available as a BMW 1 Series 3 door and a BMW 1 Series 5, has numerous equipment features that are specifically designed to enhance comfort and driving pleasure in urban traffic. These include the navigation system Business, Park Distance Control with sensors at the front and rear of the vehicle, rear view camera, parking assistant, road sign detection, Speed Limit Info, Comfort Access and an instrument cluster with extended features. The Edition model is available in conjunction with the Urban Line model and all engine variants with the exception of the BMW M140i.

New paint finishes and interior design features for the BMW 5 Series and the BMW 6er Gran Turismo.

The selection of paint finishes for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and the BMW 5 Series Touring will be extended in summer 2018 to include the variant Frozen Dark Silver metallic, whose silken matt surface creates a particularly expressive look. This body finish will also be offered for the high-performance sedan BMW M5 (combined fuel consumption: 10.5 l/100km; combined CO2 emissions: 241 g/100km, provisional values), for which it is also possible to select the variant Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic – likewise a new option.

From July 2018, the optionally available electroplating applications for selected controls will make for an exclusive sheen in the interior of the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the BMW 5 Series Touring and the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo. This high-quality surface refinement is applied to the steering wheel switches, the start/stop button, the volume control on the audio system, the air conditioning controls and the switch panels on the driver and front passenger doors.

BMW 7 Series: BMW Individual composition that can be combined with other exterior finishes.

The BMW Individual composition provides a highly exclusive ambience in the interior of the BMW 7 Series Sedan by means of exquisite materials and a subtly harmonised colour scheme. The option comprising BMW Individual full Merino fine-grain leather trim, BMW Individual interior trim finishers, a BMW Individual leather steering wheel and a BMW Individual roof liner can be combined with additional body finishes from July 2018 onwards. In future the selection will also include the variants Alpine White non-metallic, Sapphire Black metallic, Kashmir Silver metallic, Glacier Silver metallic, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect metallic, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect metallic, Mineral White metallic, Jatoba metallic, Magellan Grey metallic, Arctic Grey Brilliant Effect metallic and Atlas Cedar metallic.

Aerodynamics package for the BMW i8 Roadster.

The plug-in hybrid drive of the BMW i8 Roadster (combined fuel consumption 2,0 l/100 km; combined electricity consumption 14,5 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 46 g/km) guarantees a particularly progressive combination of sporty dynamic performance and efficiency for open-top driving. The car's supreme driving properties can be further optimised by means of the new aerodynamics package. This is made up of a dual-section front splitter and a spoiler lip for the rear of the two-seater model.

Charging is simpler than fuelling: launch of BMW Wireless Charging.

The innovative option BMW Wireless Charging offers maximum comfort when charging the high-voltage battery of a plug-in hybrid model. BMW is the world's first automobile manufacturer to offer a system of inductive charging where a cable is no longer required to feed electric current into the vehicle's battery. From 2018, BMW Wireless Charging will be among the optional equipment items available for the BMW 530e iPerformance ex works: it comprises a "car pad" for the vehicle and an inductive charging station known as a "ground pad", which can be installed on the floor of a garage, for example.

The contactless transfer of energy is carried out via an electromagnetic field between the two components and can be initiated as soon as the vehicle has reached park position over the ground pad. This makes charging a high-voltage battery even easier than filling a fuel tank.

New for BMW i and BMW i Performance automobiles: BMW Connected eDrive Services with BMW Digital Charging Service.

In future, the option BMW Connected eDrive Services will cover all digital services that help optimise comfort, everyday practicality and efficiency in vehicles that are electrically powered. This new optional equipment feature will be available from July 2018 for the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption 13.6 – 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 0 g/km) and the BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: l/100 km; combined power consumption 14.3 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 0 g/km), the BMW i8 Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 42 g/km) and the BMW i8 Roadster as well as for the BMW 225xe iPerformance (combined fuel consumption: 2.5 – 2.3 l/100 km; combined power consumption 13.7 – 13.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 57 – 52 g/km) and the BMW 530e iPerformance. It includes Remote Services, which allows the doors to be remotely locked and unlocked, and also eDrive Services complete with charging station search, as well as enabling the range and charge status to be displayed on a smartphone.

What is more, the BMW Digital Charging Service can be used in the first three years after the car has been newly registered. This enables intelligent charging with optimised cost efficiency and preferential use of self-generated solar power.

Munich/Beijing. Today’s market launch of the BMW 1 Series sedan extends the range of the German premium brand to include a model tailored specifically to meet the needs of Chinese customers. The BMW 1 Series Sedan with its hallmark sporty flair and market-specific overall concept is a highly emotional new entry to the compact premium vehicle segment that is seeing such high potential in China. The new model is offered exclusively for the Chinese automotive market by the BMW Group and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd.

Speaking at the model’s launch event in Shanghai, Dr Ian Robertson, BMW AG Management Board member responsible for Sales and Marketing BMW commented, “We sold over half a million cars in China last year and this, our biggest market, continues to offer great potential. Our customers in China have been asking for a smaller model to meet their specific needs and we’ve worked hard with our colleagues here to make sure this car not only meets but exceeds those desires.”

The BMW 1 Series Sedan was developed at BMW headquarters in Munich with the support of Chinese engineers. The vehicle concept, and equipment are geared towards the specific requirements of modern target groups in China as well as the road and traffic conditions there. During development for volume production, the new model underwent intense testing and harmonisation both globally like on the Nürburgring as well as in the wide-ranging climatic and road conditions to be found in China so as to ensure a level of everyday suitability and driving pleasure that is oriented towards the real environment in which it will be used.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan is manufactured as part of the joint venture between the BMW Group and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. at the Tiexi plant opened in 2012 which forms part of the Shenyang production site in the north east of China. Other models of the brand designed specifically for the Chinese automotive market are also produced in Shenyang. Vehicle production in Shenyang is subject to the same rigorous quality standards that apply throughout the entire worldwide BMW Group production network.

Compact sedan with the sporty flair characteristic of BMW.

The vehicle concept of the BMW 1 Series Sedan is precisely tailored to the preferences of Chinese customers. With its notchback body in characteristic three-box design, the new model reflects the style preferred by such customers in numerous vehicle categories. A special program of BMW products has been assembled in response to the popularity of sedans in China. BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series Sedans are also available in a long version developed exclusively for the Chinese market and manufactured at the Shenyang production site.

As a supplement to the 5-door hatchback BMW 1 Series models produced in Germany, the brand now adds a sedan to its range in the premium compact segment that was conceived especially for China and solely produced there. The BMW 1 Series Sedan represents the brand's hallmark combination of sporty flair and elegance while also offering best in segment ride comfort, luxurious equipment and progressive connectivity technology that is exceptional for the compact segment. With these qualities, it is a particularly attractive model for young target groups seeking access to the world of BMW premium automobiles.

Hallmark design with distinctive lines.

The sporty elegance of the BMW 1 Series Sedan, unique in the premium compact segment, is reflected in both the proportions and the lines of its body. An unmistakable appearance is especially created by applying the characteristic design features of BMW sedans to the new model’s compact exterior dimensions with a length of 4 456 millimetres, a width of 1 803 millimetres and a height of 1 446 millimetres. Short overhangs, a long engine compartment lid, a passenger cell that is set back and a long wheelbase of 2 670 millimetres give the BMW 1 Series Sedan an elongated, sporty look. The distinctive body line rises constantly from the front wheel arch via the door openers to the rear lights, additionally emphasising the dynamic orientation of the car’s silhouette.

The contours of the doors are also harmoniously integrated in the proportions of the compact model. The rear openings reach far back into the tail section, allowing comfortable entry and exit for rear passengers. What is more, the side view of the 4-door model exhibits the striking surface design that is typical of the BMW 1 Series. The intense modelling of the surface areas creates an attractive interplay of light and shade, conveying a vibrant sense of athletic flair.

The hallmark brand features of the front section include the wide radiator grille, large air inlets and twin circular headlights with state-of-the-art LED technology. The rear of the BMW 1 Series Sedan sports a model-specific design dominated by horizontal lines which underscore the vehicle’s width and supreme road holding. The rear lights protruding far into the side section to form a characteristic L shape likewise emphasise the car’s powerful appearance.

Driver-oriented cockpit, generous space and premium ambience.

The interior of the BMW 1 Series Sedan offers the perfect basis for intense driving pleasure and enjoyable travel. The cockpit is driver-oriented in design as is typical of BMW automobiles. Both the seating position and the arrangement of the display and control elements enhances concentration on the road. The iDrive operating system featuring a large on-board computer in flatscreen design and the controller in the centre console is a standard feature of the BMW 1 Series Sedan. The horizontal lines of the instrument cluster continue on into the door trim panels, thereby creating an impression of smooth harmony, while also contributing to the generous sense of space.

Precisely finished surfaces and high-quality materials are key to the premium interior ambience of the compact 4-door model. Rear comfort is optimised not just by means of generous leg space and headroom but also with a model-specific version of the rear seat. The contours of the rear backrests and the upholstery of the seat surfaces ensure passengers enjoy a high level of comfort even over lengthier distances.

New engine generation: revving power and efficiency in BMW style.

The modern and sporty character of the BMW 1 Series Sedan is reflected in the engine portfolio available at the model's market launch. There is a choice of three power units of the BMW Group’s latest generation. Their weight-optimised aluminium construction and the current version of BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology ensure exceptional revving power and torque in addition to exemplary efficiency. The technology package consists of turbocharging, petrol direction injection with centrally positioned injectors, and variable valve control in the form of VALVETRONIC as patented by the BMW Group, and variable camshaft control on the intake and exhaust side (double VANOS).

This combination results in particularly sporty performance characteristics in the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine of the BMW 125i Sedan. It mobilises a peak output of 170 kW/231 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Newton metres that goes on stream at 1 250 rpm. Fitted as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, the BMW 125i Sedan sprints from standing to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, achieving a cut-off top speed of 250 km/h. These performance figures are combined with an average fuel consumption of 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres and a combined CO2 figure of 152 grams per kilometre.

Another 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine is fitted in the BMW 120i Sedan. With a peak output of 141 kW/192 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Newton metres of 1 250 rpm, it also ensures sporty performance figures. In combination with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission – likewise a standard feature – it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h. The combined fuel consumption of the BMW 120i Sedan is 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres, while the figure for combined CO2 emissions is 148 grams per kilometre.

The engine range is rounded off with a 3-cylinder power unit for the BMW 118i Sedan. From a capacity of 1.5 litres it generates a peak output of 100 kW/136 hp, while its maximum torque of 220 Newton metres is available at 1 250 rpm. Fitted with a 6-speed Steptronic transmission, the BMW 118i Sedan takes 9.4 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h and its top speed is 212 km/h. The efficiency of the engine is reflected in a combined fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres and a combined CO2 figure of 132 grams per kilometre.

Model-specific suspension set-up, seamless safety.

The driving properties of the new BMW 1 Series Sedan are characterised by athletic flair, ride comfort and safety. A perfect basis is provided for this by means of power transmission to the front wheels, an almost equally balanced axle load distribution and the weight-optimised design of the body and suspension. The suspension set-up is not just geared towards the sporty character of the model but also meets high demands in terms of comfort. The suspension and damping are designed to ensure occupants experience as relaxed a ride as possible on all road surfaces. Optimised acoustic comfort is taken care of by such features as a fully panelled underbody and tyres with reduced rolling resistance.

Powerful disc brakes and an electromechanical power steering including Servotronic speed-related support help achieve a precisely controllable driving response. Dynamic Stability Control DSC offers a broad range of functions that contribute to secure handling at all times. Light alloy wheels in a size of 17 inches for the BMW 118iSedan (16 inches for BMW 118i Lifestyle) and 18 inches for the two other model variants come as standard.

The torsionally stiff body structure of the BMW 1 Series Sedan benefits both agility and occupant protection. The safety concept also includes precisely defined load paths and generous deformation zones which serve to divert and absorb impact forces in the event of a collision. The interior provides a comprehensive range of safety features including not just front and side airbags but also side head/curtain airbags and three-point automatic safety belts on all seats. All model variants come off the production line as standard fitted with tyres featuring emergency running properties.

Driving experience switch as standard, selective customisation with Sport Line and Luxury Line.

The standard driving experience switch in the centre console enables a vehicle-set-up which is either markedly sporty, comfort-oriented or efficiency optimised in character – entirely according to preference. The modes COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO are available at the press of a button. In addition, the standard features of the BMW 1 Series Sedan also include automatic air conditioning with optimised acoustic properties. This forms part of a model-specific heating and ventilation system which is also adapted to the specific climatic conditions in China, offering not just high performance but also a highly effective air filtering function. In addition to numerous other comfort functions, the program of optional items includes a broad range of exterior paint finishes, light alloy wheels, interior colours, seat surfaces and interior trim finishers which allow customers to individualise the design of the BMW 1 Series Sedan to suit their personal preference. The Sport Line and Luxury Line models are available as an alternative to the basic version. Their design features for the exterior and interior allow selective customisation that lends particular emphasis either to the BMW 1 Series Sedan's agile sporty flair or its exclusive appearance.

Unique connectivity: Driver assistance, services, apps.

The optional driver assistance systems provide an additional bonus in terms of comfort and safety. The range of systems includes the Driving Assistant including collision warning with city brake function and the Parking Assistant.

Intelligent connectivity gives the BMW 1 Series Sedan a range of online-based functions that is unique even beyond the compact segment. Apps allow seamless integration of numerous infotainment, navigation and communication services in the vehicle’s operating system. What is more, BMW Connected gives the driver a personal mobility assistant which provides wide-ranging support in arriving at a destination conveniently and stress-free. The flexible platform Open Mobility Cloud allows various customer end devices such as smartphones, tablets and smart watches to be connected to the vehicle. This means that personal schedule entries can be used to plan a trip before getting into the car, for example. Based on real-time traffic data, BWM Connected not only calculates the ideal route but also the perfect departure time, providing the driver with a notification on their end device in good time.

(BBA) will further explore the premium compact segment in China with the BMW 1 Series Sedan – the first compact sports sedan under the BMW brand. Munich. With the world premiere of the most powerful diesel engine ever used in a BMW production car and the introduction of three BMW iPerformance models, the drive portfolio of the BMW 7 Series continues to gain in diversity and fascination in the summer of 2016. At the same time, the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series will feature further petrol engines of the BMW Group's latest drive generation for the first time. These also include an even more powerful but also more efficient straight six-cylinder for the BMW M Performance models BMW M140i 3-door, BMW M140i 5-door, the BMW M240i Coupe and the BMW M240i Convertible.

Like the plug-in hybrid powered BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, the three additional BMW iPerformance models will in future also be recognisable by their characteristic exterior design features. Other innovations taking effect as from July 2016 include the introduction of the optional features telephony with wireless charging and WLAN hotspot for additional series. Moreover, in conjunction with the optional navigation system Professional, the iDrive control system now also features a new menu display in tile format for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible, models of the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

BMW 7 Series: New high-performance diesel engine and three BMW iPerformance models.

With the latest innovations in the field of drive technology being introduced in the summer of 2016, the BMW 7 Series is yet again setting a fascinating example of dynamics and efficiency in the luxury sedan segment. An entirely newly developed straight six-cylinder diesel engine is making its debut in the models BMW 750d xDrive and BMW 750Ld xDrive. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology featured in the 3-litre power unit comprises four turbochargers, whose precisely coordinated function ensures an early onset of pulling power that continues right up into high engine speed ranges. With a peak output of 294 kW/400 hp and a maximum torque of 760 Newton metres, the new six-cylinder is the most powerful diesel engine ever used in a BMW model. With supreme power delivery and power transmission via the standard intelligent four-wheel drive system, the BMW 750d xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds (BMW 750Ld xDrive: 4.7 seconds), also offering even more forward thrust at high speeds that can be felt intensively at any time during short bursts of speed. Furthermore, the new top-of-the-range diesel model excels through exceptionally low fuel consumption that is truly unique in this performance class. Combined fuel consumption of the BMW 750d xDrive and the BMW 750Ld xDrive is between 5.9 and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are between 154 – 149 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The BMW 7 Series iPerformance models will also be launched together with new diesel variants in the summer of 2016. The plug-in hybrid drive system including BMW eDrive technology from BMW i automobile development will become available for the models BMW 740e iPerformance featuring a standard wheelbase, for the BMW 740Le iPerformance with a long wheelbase and for the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance with intelligent four-wheel drive. Together, the combustion engine and electric motor featured in these models generate a system output of 240 kW/326 hp, their intelligently controlled interaction ensuring impressively spontaneous power delivery resulting in exemplary efficiency. Furthermore, driving in solely electric mode is possible with a vehicle range of up to 44 to 48 kilometres (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 41 – 45 kilometres). The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed in 5.4 seconds with the BMW 740e iPerformance, in 5.5 seconds with the BMW 740Le iPerformance and in 5.3 seconds with the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance. Average combined fuel consumption per 100 kilometres is between 2.2 and 2.0 litres (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 2.5 – 2.1 litres). CO2 emissions are between 50 and 45 grams per kilometre (BMW 740e iPerformance) or 51 and 45 grams per kilometre (BMW 740Le iPerformance) or 56 and 49 grams per kilometre (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance) respectively. Combined power consumption is 13.9 kWh/100 km to 12.5 kWh/100 km. (figures as per EU test cycle for plug-in hybrid vehicles, depending on selected tyre size).

BMW M Performance models of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series: New engine generation with enhanced power and optimised efficiency.

From July 2016, BMW M Performance automobiles of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series will underscore their outstanding sporting character even more intensely with an extremely powerful straight six-cylinder petrol engine of the latest generation. Compared with the previous engine, the newly developed 3-litre power unit featuring M Performance Twin Power Turbo technology now mobilises 250 kW/340 hp following a power increase of 10 kW/14 hp and delivers a maximum of 500 Newton metres of torque. As a result, the BMW M Performance models now come up to the performance level of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, which was built from 2011 to 2012. They complete the spurt from 0 to 100 km/h by up to 0.3 seconds faster than the predecessor models, whilst both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as per EU test cycle are up to 7 percent lower than before. The increase in power under the bonnet and the resulting enhanced dynamics are also expressed in the new model designations for the BMW M140i 3-door, the BMW M140i 5-door, the BMW M240i Coupe and the BMW M240i Convertible. They are optionally available with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive technology.

With the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the models BMW M140i 3-door and BMW M140i 5-door accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds or with the optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission in 4.6 seconds respectively. Fuel consumption as per EU test cycle is 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 7.1 litres) and CO2 emissions 179 grams per kilometre (163 g/km). The BMW M140i xDrive 3-door and the BMW M140i xDrive 5-door come as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and both reach the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in 4.4 seconds. Their combined fuel consumption is 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are 169 grams per kilometre.

The BMW M Performance models of the BMW 2 Series are also optionally available with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive technology and are in this case equipped as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission. The BMW M240i Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds (automatic: 4.6 seconds) and has a combined fuel consumption of 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres (7.1 litres) as per EU test cycle. CO2 emissions are 179 grams per kilometre (163 g/km). The BMW M240i xDrive Coupe completes the sprint to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and achieves an average fuel consumption of 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres as well as a CO2 emission level of 169 grams per kilometre. The BMW M240i Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds (automatic: 4.7 seconds). Average fuel consumption is 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 7.4 litres) and CO2 emissions are 189 grams per kilometre (169 g/km). The BMW M240i xDrive Convertible sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and has an average fuel consumption of 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres as per EU test cycle and a CO2 emission level of 179 grams per kilometre.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible: New four-cylinder petrol engine for eight models.

From July 2016, the generation change under the bonnet will affect many further models of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series. Two variants of the BMW 1 Series 3-door, the BMW 1 Series 5-door, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible will each be powered by new four-cylinder petrol engines that further optimize the balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption. The 2-litre power units both feature latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising a Twin Scroll turbo charger, direct petrol injection, VALVETRONIC and Double VANOS. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a standard 6-speed manual transmission and optionally via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The new engines help the BMW 120i 3-door and the BMW 120i 5-door attain an increase in output of 5 kW/7 hp to 135 kW/184 hp. Equipped with the standard manual transmission or the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission, both models accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is between 6.1 and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 5.9 and 5.5 litres). CO2 emissions are between 140 and 131 grams per kilometres (135 – 126 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

Engine output of the models BMW 125i 3-door and BMW 125i 5-door has also increased by 5 kW/7 hp. With a power delivery of 165 kW/224 hp and the meanwhile standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, both models now sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The enhanced dynamics are coupled with a lower fuel consumption of 5.9 to 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of 134 to 130 grams per kilometre (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The new version of the 135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder engine also optimizes efficiency of the BMW 220i Coupe and the BMW 220i Convertible. The BMW 220i Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds (automatic: 7.2 seconds and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 6.1 bis 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (5.9 – 5.5 litres) and CO2-emissions of 140 to 131 grams per kilometre (135 – 126 g/km). The BMW 220i Convertible sprints to100 km/h in 7.5 seconds (7.7 seconds) and combined fuel consumption is now between 6.5 and 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres (6.1 – 5.7 litres). CO2 emission levels are between 149 and 139 grams per kilometre (140 – 131 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

July 2016 will see the launch of the BMW 2 Series’ sportiest four-cylinder variants with a power output increase of 5 kW/7 hp to 185 kW/252 hp vs. their predecessors and with the model designations BMW 230i Coupe and BMW 230i Convertible. These also come as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and optionally with an 8-speed Steptronic or 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission respectively. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed by the BMW 230i Coupe in 5.8 seconds (automatic: 5.6 seconds). Average fuel consumption is between 6.4 and 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres (5.9 – 5.7 litres) and CO2 emissions are between 147 and 142 grams per kilometre (134 – 130 g/km). The BMW 230i Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds (automatic: 5.9 seconds) and has a combined fuel consumption of 6.8 to 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres (6.2 – 6.0 litres). CO2 emissions are between 155 and 149 grams per kilometre (142 – 137 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

Characteristic design features for the BMW iPerformance models.
With the market launch of the first plug-in hybrid models, BMW eDrive technology comprising electric motors, lithium ion high-performance batteries and intelligent energy management have now been added to the BMW brand’s vehicle range. In addition to the three BMW 7 Series plug-in hybrid models available starting July 2016, three further segments offer a choice of vehicles combining a combustion engine with an electric drive. In future, they will bear the model designations BMW 225xe iPerformance Active Tourer, BMW 330e iPerformance Sedan and BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance. The technology transfer from BMW i automobile development, helping them attain a new level of dynamics and path-breaking efficiency, is now underscored by characteristic exterior design features.

In addition to the “eDrive” logo on the C pillar, the BMW iPerformance models will feature a BMW i logo on the front left and right sidewalls, blue hubcaps and a BMW kidney grill with slats painted in typical BMW i blue. From December 2016, these new features will be standard on the BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance and on all further BMW iPerformance models as early as from July 2016. Analogous to the model name plates on all BMW models, specific design features on BMW iPerformance models can also be omitted if the customer so wishes. Further equipment features originally designed for the BMW i3 and the BMW i8 and which are also available as standard or as options for all BMW iPerformance models, include hybrid-specific BMW ConnectedDrive services as well as the complete BMW i 360° ELECTRIC portfolio.

New from BMW ConnectedDrive: BMW iDrive with optimized menu display, telephony with wireless charging and WLAN hotspot available for further models.

From the summer of 2016, three new features from BMW ConnectedDrive, which were previously only available for the BMW 7 Series and BMW 6 Series, will also find their way to the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible, the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series. A new, extremely clearly structured menu display and a higher screen resolution for the Control Display will in future optimize the control of vehicle, infotainment, navigation and communication functions via the iDrive controller. In conjunction with the navigation system Professional, the on-board monitor no longer displays the main menu and control options for the various functions in lists, but in the form of adjacently arranged tile symbols. Furthermore, the speech recognition feature of the navigation system Professional has been supplemented by the function Natural Language, with which spoken instructions can be given not only as predefined text modules, but also freely formulated in complete sentences.

The optional feature telephony with wireless charging enhances comfort when using mobile phones inside the vehicle. Inductively chargeable smartphones can be supplied wirelessly with electricity during the journey using the mobile telephone facility provided for this purpose in the centre console. Apart from the integration of the smartphone into the vehicle operating system, the new option also includes a connection to the exterior antenna and two USB ports as well as the WLAN hotspot function, which facilitates high-speed Internet connectivity for up to eight mobile end devices.

Wider choice of leather seats for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

As a variant that is ideally suited to the charisma of the model M Sport, the leather trim Dakota in the colour black with blue contrast stitching will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible as well as for all models of the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series from July 2016. In the case of all BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series, both the model M Sport as well as the models Luxury Line and Sport Line can now be ordered with the seat variant Dakota Veneto Beige in combination with the interior colour black.

BMW, one of the world’s most successful premium carmakers, also boasts an excellent position in the all-wheel-drive market, a segment it first entered 30 years ago. Around one in three BMW cars sold around the world is now equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s success in this segment has been driven not only by the ever-popular BMW X models but also by all-wheel-drive models based on the other model series, from the BMW 1 Series to the BMW 7 Series. Across these model series, a large choice of AWD models is offered in a wide range of engine versions. At the same time, BMW continues to refine this technology and take it in new directions. By offering BMW xDrive in combination with a hybrid drive and with a front-wheel-drive platform, the company has repeatedly demonstrated its proficiency in the all-wheel-drive field, proficiency that will secure BMW’s position at the forefront of this sector well into the future. Today, BMW offers more than 110 models – of either transmission type – with BMW xDrive in 12 different model series, as well as the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car and the compact BMW 225xe with electrified all-wheel drive.

The focus from day one: traction and dynamics.
BMW’s first foray into the all-wheel-drive market came with the unveiling of the BMW 325i “Allrad” at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in 1985. From the outside, the newcomer didn’t immediately reveal its inner qualities, so its performance when the journalists took it out on the test track was even more of an eye-opener. This very first BMW all-wheel-drive system not only improved traction away from surfaced roads and in adverse weather conditions, but also made for more dynamic handling through corners. “The new BMW is the new champion when it comes to handling,” was the verdict of the testers from German car magazine Auto Zeitung not long after the first unveiling.

Today, the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system takes typical BMW driving dynamics to new levels. The current generation of this system is controlled by the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM) system, which ensures that xDrive always responds appropriately at the earliest possible moment, based on reliable sensing and monitoring of the current driving situation. The interventions may be performed either entirely by BMW xDrive, or by xDrive in combination with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Performance Control (DPC). The resulting fast and precise control of drive power distribution ensures typical BMW handling characteristics even under extremely dynamic cornering.

The all-wheel-drive system is biased towards the typical BMW rear-wheel-drive characteristics. That is to say, on the all-wheel-drive models a greater share of the drive power is sent to the rear wheels, even under normal driving conditions. This maintains the typical BMW precise steering response, with virtually no torque steer. For crisp turn-in and high tracking stability, the latest-generation BMW xDrive system starts increasing the amount of power sent to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a corner, further enhancing the driving pleasure for which BMW is a byword.

The full-time all-wheel-drive system featured on the BMW 325i “Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability. This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and including the E46 series).

1991: BMW 525iX.
Three years on, BMW introduced an all-wheel-drive model in the BMW 5 Series too. For the first time, the power split was now electronically controlled. The newly developed system featured multi-plate clutches that allowed the default 36:64 front-to-rear power split to be varied seamlessly and automatically in line with driving conditions. Initially a hydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch was used at the rear axle, but this was later replaced by electronically controlled selective braking intervention. The system monitored the driving situation using wheel speed signals from the Anti-lock Braking System, supplemented by further information about brake status, engine speed and throttle valve position.

From the outset the all-wheel-drive system of the BMW 525iX was a class apart. The electronic control system delivered a very fast and precise response, resulting in safe, neutral handling characteristics even in difficult driving conditions, such as on wet roads or snow. In the BMW 5 Series, too, the first all-wheel-drive models were offered in both Sedan and touring versions.

1999: The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) opens a new chapter.
In the run-up to the new millennium, a highly innovative vehicle concept from BMW made its sensational debut. The BMW X5, the first Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), impressed customers with driving dynamics that were unmatched among other all-terrain vehicles of the time. The outstanding all-wheel-drive system played a big part in this. A planetary gear system split the drive power in a ratio of 38:62 per cent between the front and rear wheels, while electronic control systems such as DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ADB-X (Automatic Differential Brake) and HDC (Hill Descent Control) ensured the new BMW X5 was both sporty on the road and equipped to handle challenging conditions off the beaten track.

In the years following the successful launch of the SAV concept, there was no let-up in the fast pace of all-wheel-drive development at BMW. The next year, 2000, a model-specific version of the BMW X5’s all-wheel drive technology became available for the fourth generation of the BMW 3 Series.

2003: BMW xDrive makes its debut in the BMW X3 and BMW X5.
Four years on from the debut of the BMW X5 in 1999, BMW kept up the momentum by launching the SAV concept in a further vehicle segment. The new BMW X3 was more compact than the BMW X5 and offered even more agile handling. It set new benchmarks and remained the only premium model in its class for years to come.

The newly developed BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which was introduced in the same year in both the BMW X3 and the BMW X5, soon extended BMW’s lead in the AWD segment. Based on an extremely fast-acting electronic multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, xDrive worked in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) to continuously adapt the drive power split to the current driving situation. In addition to wheel speed, for the first time the electronic control system also took into account Dynamic Stability Control data, for example about steering angle, accelerator position and lateral acceleration. This is what makes BMW xDrive the world’s first, and still only, “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system. Unlike conventional all-wheel-drive systems, which only react when at least one wheel is already spinning, xDrive is able to detect a risk of oversteer or understeer at the very first signs, and proactively corrects this by redirecting the flow of drive power.

In the years that followed, the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system was fitted not only on the X models but also on the xDrive versions of the BMW 3 and 5 Series Sedan and Touring models. By the time the second generation of the BMW X3 was introduced in 2010, more than 600,000 units of this series had already been sold worldwide. A little earlier, sales of the BMW X5 – which entered its second generation in 2006 – had topped the one million mark.

2008: SAC with Dynamic Performance Control and hybrid drive.
With the two Sports Activity Vehicles now firmly established in their respective segments, in 2007 BMW went on to present the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe. Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the brand-new BMW X6 elevated the typical dynamic character of the BMW X models to a new level of intensity. For the first time, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system was combined with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which varies the drive power split between the rear wheels when cornering to ensure unrivalled agility and stability, even under sudden throttle changes or on overrun. In 2009, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstrated a further perfect pairing – between BMW xDrive and hybrid propulsion. Meanwhile, in the same year, BMW M GmbH added two very special models to its range of high-performance sports cars. With an M-tuned BMW xDrive system, including Dynamic Performance Control, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M boasted performance that was previously unknown in the all-wheel-drive market.

2009 also saw the arrival of a new X model, the BMW X1. For many years to come, the BMW X1 was destined to remain the only vehicle of its kind in the premium compact segment. Its intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, like that of the new BMW X3 (2010), was also combinable with Performance Control. This system selectively brakes the wheel on the inside of a turn while simultaneously increasing engine power, resulting in quick and precise turn-in to corners and taking the agile handling of both models to new levels.

BMW xDrive also available for other model series.
The steady advance of the BMW X models has been accompanied by an increase in the number of xDrive versions offered in the other BMW model series too. Designed to improve cornering agility and precision, BMW xDrive provides an enhanced driving experience and an optimal combination of dynamics and comfort. So it was only a matter of time before this intelligent drive technology made its debut in the BMW 7 Series as well, in 2009. In spring 2012, the first all-wheel-drive Coupe and Convertible models were then offered in the sporty BMW 6 Series. BMW xDrive can also be specified on the current BMW 3 and 5 Series and, since 2013, on the Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe models of the new BMW 4 Series.

Driving progress ever forward.
BMW took things forward in the premium mid-sized segment with the launch of the BMW X4 in 2014. The new Sports Activity Coupe offers a unique blend of driving enjoyment, sophisticated style and contemporary practicality. It comes with BMW xDrive as standard and is available in a wide range of engine versions. In the same year, BMW also presented the third generation of the BMW X5, the second generation of the BMW X6, and M Sport versions of both models. BMW xDrive also made its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This was a debut with a difference, being the first time BMW had combined its intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an all-new front-wheel-drive format.

With the BMW i8, unveiled in 2014, the BMW Group took a bold new step in new directions – which also extended to the all-wheel-drive system. This 2+2-seater sports model is powered by a highly advanced plug-in hybrid drive system that pairs an internal combustion engine driving the rear wheels with a high-performance electric motor driving the front wheels.

Focused on the future: BMW xDrive meets BMW eDrive.
BMW’s latest all-wheel-drive models bring technology advances that are firmly focused on the future of mobility. The BMW i8 was followed by the international launch of the first production plug-in hybrid model from the BMW core brand: the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Thanks to full-time BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive and eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics technology, this Sports Activity Vehicle mates thrilling and effortless sporty performance with outstanding efficiency. Intelligent hybrid power management synchronises the operation of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor to maximise efficiency at all times, while also responding perfectly to the driver’s demands. The drive from the two power units is transferred to the road via the full-time BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

BMW 7 Series: Integral Active Steering combinable with BMW xDrive.
In September 2015, the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This high-end BMW luxury model pioneers groundbreaking innovations on all fronts, and will be available with BMW xDrive from its market launch in October. The new luxury sedan will also be the first model to allow intelligent all-wheel-drive to be combined with Integral Active Steering – that is to say with passively steering rear wheels.

With the introduction of additional drive and equipment variants for the new BMW 7 Series, the new BMW X1 and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in the autumn of 2015, BMW is offering further enhanced diversity within its model range. Immediately following the start of its market launch, a second diesel engine will be on offer for the latest generation of the BMW 7 Series, with the V8 power unit now also available in conjunction with rear-wheel drive. Likewise, the model range for the new BMW X1 will be complemented directly after its market launch by the introduction of a three-cylinder petrol engine of the BMW Group’s latest engine generation and a further four-wheel drive variant. Starting in November 2015, two additional model variants of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will also go on sale.

Parallel to the extension of the drive portfolio, the range of optional extras available for the BMW 7 Series will be supplemented by a further highlight. As from November 2015, it will be possible to equip the first model variants of the luxury sedan with the world’s first remote controlled parking feature. The new BMW X1 is – in addition to the basic model, the models Advantage, Sport Line and xLine – now also available in an M Sport version. Furthermore, an optimised version of the Parking Assistant, which thanks to additional sensors guarantees even more precise manoeuvring in parking spaces, will be on offer as from the autumn of 2015.

Munich. In the summer of 2015, BMW will be continuing with the generation change under the bonnet of many of its model series. Thanks to the optimised efficiency of the new three and four-cylinder engines, both the sporting characteristics and the fuel economy of numerous models will improve yet again. Moreover, the deployment of additional petrol and diesel power units will ensure even more diversity within the model range. Furthermore, as from July 2015, the BMW M235i xDrive Convertible will be the first open-top compact model to offer four-wheel drive as an option.

Moreover, the range of standard and optional equipment is to be extended as from the summer of 2015. The latest generation of the navigation system Professional as well as the Parking Assistant, which is now also usable for transversely positioned parking spaces, will also be available for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 4 Series. The safety features in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will be complemented, inter alia, by the Multi-Collision Braking function and the Alertness Assistant. New exterior colours will be available for the BMW 4 Series, the BMW M4 Coupe, the BMW M4 Convertible, the BMW 5 Series and the BMW Z4.

Munich. 28 March 2015 sees the curtain raised on the market launch of the new BMW 1 Series. Fans of compact driving pleasure can look forward to an even more striking design, a further refined premium ambience for the interior, engines that are extremely powerful and even more efficient, and innovative equipment features. Ahead of the launch, news filtered through from BMW Plant Regensburg of another reason to smile as the two-millionth BMW 1 Series rolled off the production line. The landmark car was built just a few days after the start of production for the new version of the compact model and is one of the first examples of the new BMW 1 Series range earmarked for export to Asia. The BMW 120i 5-door, painted in Estoril Blue metallic and equipped with an M Sport package, will be delivered to a customer in Japan.

This production landmark at BMW Plant Regensburg represents another milestone in the international success story of the BMW 1 Series. In late summer 2014 the company celebrated the model series’ tenth birthday. And now the leap beyond the two-million-unit mark provides further evidence of how the attraction of BMW’s hallmark driving pleasure has spread to the compact segment as well. At its premiere in 2004 the BMW 1 Series became the brand’s first model to reconcile sporty and elegant design, dynamic driving properties and premium quality with the functional attributes of a compact 5-door model. Boasting superior powertrain and chassis technology and the rear-wheel-drive configuration that remains a unique selling point in the compact segment, the BMW 1 Series has since set the benchmark for sporting ability in its class. At the same time, it regularly serves as a trailblazer for the latest BMW EfficientDynamics technology, which ensures the new BMW 1 Series, too, offers an impressive balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption.

The new edition of the BMW 1 Series will be offered in both 5-door and 3-door body variants. The BMW 1 Series 3-door is built exclusively at BMW Plant Regensburg, the BMW 1 Series 5-door additionally at BMW Plant Leipzig. Both models can be ordered with a selection of powerful and highly efficient petrol and diesel engines featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, including units with three and four cylinders from the BMW Group’s latest generation of engines and a six-cylinder in-line engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology. The new BMW 1 Series (fuel consumption combined: 8.0 – 3.4 l/100 km [35.3 – 83.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 188 – 89 g/km) therefore covers an output spectrum ranging from 80 kW/109 hp to 240 kW/326 hp.

The BMW M135i M Performance Automobile is a ticket to outstanding dynamics, while the 85 kW/116 hp BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition leads the way in the efficiency stakes with average fuel consumption of 3.8 – 3.4 l/100 km (74.3 – 83.1 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 101 – 89 g/km in the EU test cycle. The BMW M135i, BMW 118d and BMW 120d can all be specified as an option with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.

Other highlights of the equipment listings for the new BMW 1 Series include the standard-fitted iDrive operating system, full-LED headlights (available as an option for the BMW 1 Series for the first time) and the latest additions to the BMW ConnectedDrive line-up. As well as the radar-based Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go function and the new-generation Parking Assistant, features such as the camera-based Driving Assistant are also available. The progressive character of the new BMW 1 Series range is likewise underlined by the standard provision of the Intelligent Emergency Call function and BMW TeleServices. The optional Navigation system Professional also offers automatic map updating (using the embedded SIM card and mobile phone network), which is free of charge to customers for the first three years following registration of the car. Munich. Can typical BMW driving pleasure also inspire in the compact segment? In the late summer of 2004, a sustainable and impressive answer to this question was provided. The BMW 1 Series made its debut – the first automobile to combine the brand’s characteristic driving dynamics, a sporty and elegant design and premium quality with the functional advantages of a five-door car with compact dimensions. 10 years further on, the BMW 1 Series is still the benchmark for sportiness in its class and the epitome of efficiency, reliability and innovative equipment features. Its unique qualities have rendered it a bestseller, with almost 1.9 million units having been sold worldwide.

Meanwhile, the BMW 1 Series’ history is being continued with the second model generation, offering numerous highlights that reflect the series’ multifaceted potential and high level of appeal. The BMW 1 Series became the basis for a 5-door and a 3-door body variant, a coupe and a convertible, for the “World Green Car of the Year 2008”, for the first BMW model with a CO2 emission level of less than 100 grams per kilometre, for the brand’s first electric vehicle for day-to-day use and for a BMW M automobile with 250 kW/340 hp, for the leader of the endurance test ranking of the trade magazine “Auto Bild” and the winner of the “Goldenes Lenkrad” in 2008 and 2011.

Thanks to the implementation of extensive EfficientDynamics technology, the BMW 1 Series became the leading pioneer in the consistent reduction of fuel consumption and emission levels. It was the brand’s first series to include as from 2007 an Auto Start Stop function, a gearshift indicator, brake energy regeneration and electric power steering and more. Thanks to its enormous popularity, the BMW 1 Series also became the driving force for the steadily increasing sales figures achieved by the world’s most successful premium automobile manufacturer.

Unique in the compact segment: A typical BMW for the “Joy Principle”.

With the Munich-based premium carmaker’s venture into the compact segment, the unmistakable characteristics of a BMW model were adopted into a new format. The brand-typical proportions with a long bonnet, short overhangs, a long wheelbase and an aft-set passenger cell, the temperamental and dynamically designed body surfaces, the driver-oriented cockpit arrangement, powerful, longitudinally installed engines, high-class suspension technology and power transmission to the rear wheels, to this very day still unique in its class, all helped the BMW 1 Series attain its outstanding position that became the starting point for its worldwide sales success. From the very beginning, the BMW 1 Series underscored its significance through sophisticated, innovative equipment options previously only available in higher vehicle segments. Runflat tyres, adaptive headlight range control, a two-stage brake light, the Start/Stop unit and options such as Comfort Access, the iDrive control system as well as driver assistant systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive using intelligent networking found their way into the compact class with the BMW 1 Series. Moreover, the BMW 1 Series also took on an exemplary role in terms of safety. In the Euro NCAP crash test, both the first (2004) and the second model generation (2011) each received the highest rating of 5 stars.

In order to highlight the new model’s exceptional qualities and reach additional target groups, new approaches were also adopted in the field of PR and marketing.  For the first time and in addition to conventional advertising, a comprehensive online campaign and communication methods conceived exclusively for use with smartphones played a crucial role. On the website www.Prinzip-Freude.de, test drives were propagated at an early stage. Star of the TV spot released under the motto “Joy” was none other than Kermit the frog. With his unconventional, self-mocking charm, the world-famous protagonist of the Muppet Show proved to be the ideal figure to promote the new model.

Compact driving pleasure in great variety: BMW 1 Series in four body variants.

The BMW 1 Series was originally launched as a classic four-door hatchback with a large tailgate. Within the framework of the model update in the spring of 2007, the 5-door car was supplemented by a sport-oriented 3-door body variant, which clearly asserted the dynamic driving characteristics of the BMW 1 Series, of which more than 200,000 had been sold by that time. Additional dynamics came into play with the introduction of the third model in November of the same year. As a two-door model featuring a classic three-box design, four seats and exceptionally powerful engines, the BMW 1 Series Coupe offered the most intensive form of driving pleasure in the compact segment, with sales of more than 150,000 units worldwide before being replaced last year. The BMW 1 Series Convertible with a classic soft top and a low shoulder line guaranteeing that brand-typical open driving experience, was equally as successful. The first open-top premium automobile in the compact segment followed in April 2008, finally selling more than 130 000 times.

The current model generation of the BMW 1 Series (fuel consumption combined: 8.0–3.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 188–99 g/km) is available both in a 5-door and a 3-door version. Furthermore, BMW emphasises the increased significance of premium compact models for the international automotive markets by supplementing the product range with a second series. With the introduction of the BMW 2 Series Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 8.1–4.3 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 189–114 g/km) and the BMW 2 Series Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 8.5–4.4 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 199–116 g/km), driving dynamics and sporty elegance have reached a new dimension within the compact segment.

Little more than a year before the EU6 exhaust emission standard comes into effect in September 2014, BMW is increasing the number of models that already fulfil the more stringent emission regulations. As early as in the summer of 2013, almost all models featuring the BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine will comply with the EU6 classification as standard. Moreover, by the summer of 2013, further four-wheel drive variants of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 3 Series are to be added to the model range of the BMW brand. Innovative functions, which can be used in conjunction with the ECO PRO mode, guarantee even better efficiency. Enhanced driving pleasure is provided thanks to the Launch Control function, which in future will be included in the equipment range for the eight-speed sports automatic transmission. And the range of BMW ConnectedDrive options now also includes innovations that, as a result of intelligent networking, further optimise comfort, safety and the use of infotainment features inside the vehicle.

EU6 classification standard for all series.

BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology not only ensures enhanced driving pleasure coupled with reduced fuel consumption, but also offers the ideal prerequisites for optimised emission performance. As early as in the summer of 2013, numerous other petrol-driven models of the BMW brand equipped with this technology package will fulfil the EU6 exhaust emission standard that is due to come into effect as from September 2014. At the beginning of the 2014 model year, the BMW M automobiles as well as the six-cylinder versions of the BMW Z4 will also comply with the EU6 classification. At the same time, the number of diesel models, which are also equipped as standard with BMW BluePerformance and as a result also achieve the EU6 classification, is also to increase. 

Intelligent four-wheel drive concept xDrive for further models of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series.

With five further models, which can be optionally equipped with BMW xDrive, BMW will also be continuing the current four-wheel drive initiative in the summer of 2013. The permanent, electronically controlled four-wheel drive technology optimises not only traction and vehicle stability in all weather and road conditions, but also driving dynamics when taking bends. This can in future also be experienced in the models BMW 118d xDrive 3-door version and the BMW 118d xDrive 5-door variant. Like the new models BMW 318d xDrive Sedan and the BMW 318d xDrive Touring, they are also powered by a 105 kW/143 hp four-cylinder diesel power unit.  Furthermore, as from the summer of 2013, a new top-of-the-range diesel model for the BMW 3 Series also featuring BMW xDrive will become available. Power from the 230 kW/313 hp straight six cylinder diesel engine under the bonnet of the BMW 335d xDrive Sedan is distributed between the front and rear axles according to each specific situation. The BMW 335d xDrive Sedan comes as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Optimum acceleration: Eight-speed sports automatic with Launch Control.

The remarkably efficient, fast and comfortably shifting eight-speed automatic transmission is now available for BMW models across all series. If desired, it will be possible in future to underscore the sporting character of the automatic transmission even more intensively. From the summer of 2013, the optional leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles will be available for the luxury sedans of the 7 Series. Using this feature, the driver can manually adjust the drive settings without having to take his/her hands off the steering wheel.

Moreover, the eight-speed sports automatic transmission available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 6 Series will be complemented by the new Launch Control function. This feature permits acceleration with optimised traction and maximum dynamics from a standstill – a function that was previously only available in a comparable version for BMW M automobiles. In order to use Launch Control, the driver has to activate the DTC mode of the driving stability control function DSC, shift the gear selection lever to the position S, depress the brake pedal firmly and simultaneously press the accelerator pedal all the way down. After the brake pedal has been released, the vehicle accelerates with optimal drive slip, consequently making highest possible use of engine power. The acceleration process continues for as long as the driver depresses the accelerator pedal. The equipment range for the sports automatic transmission also includes shift paddles on the steering wheel, a specific gear selector switch and exceptionally dynamic gear-change characteristics that also ensure supreme driving performance during short bursts of speed.

BMW EfficientDynamics: ECO PRO Mode now with sailing function and anticipation assistant. 

Thanks to new functions for the ECO PRO Mode, which can be activated via the Driving Experience Control feature, BMW is increasing the possibilities of achieving better fuel economy through intelligent energy management. From the summer of 2013, all model variants of the BMW 1 Series*, the BMW 3 Series* and the BMW 6 Series equipped with the eight-speed automatic transmission or the eight-speed sports transmission either optionally or as standard, will feature the new sailing mode (except the BMW 114i, 116i, 118i, 316i and 320i EfficientDynamics Edition). At speeds of between 50 and 160 km/h in the ECO PRO Mode, the drive train is disconnected as soon as the driver lifts his/her foot from the accelerator pedal without applying the brakes. As a result, the vehicle is able to ‘sail’ without engine power, thereby also achieving maximum fuel efficiency.  Fuel economy is now promoted even more intensively using the optional navigation system Professional.

The new anticipation assistant informs the driver of the ideal time to slow down when approaching bends, stretches, curves and roundabouts of road where speed limits are in force in order to obtain better fuel efficiency. For the first time, BMW EfficientDynamics technology and BMW ConnectedDrive technology will be networked with each other within the framework of the intelligent energy management – with the effect that further fuel savings will be achieved in ECO PRO mode.

BMW ConnectedDrive: New options and enhanced functions.

Furthermore, from the summer of 2013, BMW will also set new benchmarks in intelligent networking, thanks to the consistently upgraded range of BMW ConnectedDrive features. New options and enhanced functions ensure further optimisation.

The options Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus initially introduced exclusively for the BMW 7 Series will be available with a new functional structure both for the luxury sedan and further BMW models. The safety package Driving Assistant comprises the Lane Departure Warning as well as a pedestrian and collision warning with braking function. The system detects vehicles driving ahead and, at speeds of up to 60 km/h, also persons who are on a possible collision course. In an identified hazard situation, the driver is warned by means of visual and acoustic signals. In order to shorten the stopping distance, the braking system is simultaneously preconditioned. Furthermore, at speeds of up to 60 km/h an emergency braking manoeuvre with medium deceleration is also activated in order to reduce speed and draw the driver’s attention to the critical situation.  

The Driving Assistant Plus provides even more comprehensive support. The system combines Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function with the Driving Assistant, ensuring above all enhanced comfort and safety in slow-moving traffic and tailbacks. At speeds of up to 210 km/h, the driver is able to delegate the Distance Control function to the system. A combination of front camera and full-range radar sensors detects all vehicles ahead, whether moving or stationary. Should the driver not react to the warning of a potential collision, the Driving Assistant Plus automatically slows the vehicle down – with maximum deceleration power if necessary.

The Lane Change Warning assistant, also available as an individual option, can be used in future from a speed of 20 km/h. The system monitors the traffic situation on the adjacent lane in the area called the dead spot and warns he driver of potential critical situations during overtaking manoeuvres.

Thanks to additional functions, the use of the optional BMW Head-Up Display is becoming even more attractive. The system, which uses the entire colour spectrum when projecting driving-related information onto the windscreen, is now being complemented by additional display information on further models. If required, telephone contact and infotainment lists are also displayed within the driver’s direct field of vision. As a result, the driver is able to use this information without having to take his/her eyes off the road.

From the summer of 2013, the new generation of the night vision system BMW Night Vision will be optionally available for all models of the BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series. This system now also comprises an animal recognition function in addition to the pedestrian recognition feature and the Dynamic Light Spot on BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series models. The system provides a real-time video image that also depicts on the Control Display persons, animals and other objects emitting heat when they are outside of the light beam and warns in the event of an impending collision. The Dynamic Light Spot is produced by a special headlight that directs the light beam onto the recognised persons or animals respectively, thus drawing the driver’s attention to possible hazards in good time.

The range of functions for the Active Protection option has also been further upgraded. In critical situations, this safety package helps to reduce the consequences of a possible accident by applying a number of countermeasures. In such a case, the side windows and, if necessary, also the sliding roof are closed, front seatbelts tightened and the backrest of the front passenger seat brought into an upright position. Active Protection also includes an attention assistant that analyses driving behaviour and, if necessary, advises the driver to rest. The advice to take a break is provided in the form of graphic symbols shown on the Control Display.

Munich. BMW will be treating customers to even greater driving pleasure and an even more diverse line-up of models from spring 2013, thanks to additional engine and drive system variants, an expanded range of equipment and attractive new BMW ConnectedDrive features. The selection of petrol engines available for the BMW 3 Series Touring will stretch from the entry-level BMW 316i Touring developing 100 kW/136 hp all the way to the similarly new flagship model, the BMW 335i Touring with 225 kW/306 hp. The engine line-up will be bolstered by another two diesel variants, including the extremely efficient BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition Touring. Customers will also be able to order the new BMW 3 Series Touring with intelligent all-wheel drive from spring 2013; five xDrive variants will be available initially. The move sees BMW pushing ahead with its model offensive in the all-wheel-drive sector; six additional xDrive variants will be added to the BMW 3 Series range in total, while the BMW 6 Series will welcome a further four all-wheel-drive models. Meanwhile, the number of models which meet the EU6 exhaust stipulations – due to come into force in September 2014 – as standard is also set to grow.

An exclusive package of equipment features marks out the Limited Edition Lifestyle models poised to swell the ranks of the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible in spring 2013. Plus, the new generation of the Professional navigation system will be available as an option for all variants of the BMW 6 Series, the BMW X3 and the BMW 1 Series in both 5-door and 3-door guise. Standard equipment for all BMW 6 Series and new BMW 3 Series models will now include Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic vehicle location and accident severity detection, while the new BMW 3 Series will also feature a hands-free system and USB interface as standard in future.

Agile handling, exclusive equipment features and an elegantly sporty design have secured the status of the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible as passports to an elevated level of driving pleasure in the premium compact segment. The new Limited Edition Lifestyle equipment package shines the spotlight even more brightly on the aesthetic qualities of these dynamic two-door cars and underlines their special position in the marketplace. The package includes a carefully composed selection of exclusive, high-quality equipment details, which add further interest to the outside and inside of the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible and enhance their appeal and distinctive allure. Added to which, it can also be combined with the BMW M Sport package. 

The BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible are at their most aesthetically pleasing in the exclusive exterior paint colour Mineral White metallic, although Sapphire Black metallic and Space Grey metallic are also available as alternatives. Whichever shade customers opt for, the BMW kidney grille will greet them with white decorative trim and white kidney grille bars with chromed fronts. This elegant appearance is underlined by Chrome Line window recess finishers and side window surrounds. Classy 18-inch light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design and with a Ferric Grey paint finish also catch the eye.

The exhaust tailpipe embellishers in matt chrome or black chrome (BMW 135i and BMW 123d) add further flourishes, while the Lifestyle Edition version of the BMW 1 Series Convertible achieves a particularly successful contrasting effect; its brown soft-top with silver pigmentation generates fascinating light effects. Leather trim in Tobacco brown adorned with white contrast stitching dominates the interior of the Lifestyle Edition, and a brown sports leather steering wheel continues the theme. If the M Sport package is specified, the Coupe and Convertible will be kitted out with an M leather steering wheel in black. Adding the finishing touches to the high-end interior ambience are door sill finishers bearing “BMW Limited Edition” lettering, Fineline Stream exquisite wood trim strips, an anthracite-coloured roof liner and floor mats with colour-coordinated piping.
