BMW Team Schnitzer lines up in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
Munich, 7th September 2010. The stage is set for the 2010 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. This weekend, Silverstone (GB) will host the first of three races in this championship, which is organised by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO). BMW Team Schnitzer will send a BMW M3 GT2, driven by Jörg Müller (DE) and Dirk Werner (DE), into action at the 1000-kilometre race in Great Britain, which also marks the conclusion of the 2010 Le Mans Series.
The marathon at the “Silverstone Circuit” is the first European race for the BMW M3 GT2 since August’s 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (BE), at which BMW ultimately finished third and fourth having led the field for long periods of the race. To date, the GT sports car’s greatest success this season has been victory in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE). Back in May, Jörg Müller recorded a memorable triumph in the Eifel Mountains alongside Augusto Farfus (BR), Uwe Alzen (DE) and Pedro Lamy (PT). Besides the race in Silverstone, Schnitzer Motorsport will also represent BMW at the finale of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup in Zhuhai (CN) from 5th to 7th November. The BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team will also be battling for ILMC points at the “Petit Le Mans” on 1st/2nd October in Road Atlanta (US). The race is held as part of the American Le Mans Series.
Charly Lamm (Team Manager):
“The entire
team is looking forward to the race in Silverstone. We have continued
to work very intensively on the BMW M3 GT2 over the past few weeks,
and have made further progress. Racing on the modified Grand Prix
circuit will be a new experience for all the teams. We will attempt to
find our rhythm as quickly as possible and get off to a good start in
the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.”
Jörg Müller (Car Number 78):
“I
am really looking forward to driving the modified Silverstone circuit
for the first time. The changes to the layout are a real challenge. I
have studied onboard footage of the new corners carefully and am well
prepared. Silverstone remains a fantastic circuit. My most recent race
there was with the BMW 320i in the 2005 World Touring Car
Championship. I can hardly wait to take the BMW M3 GT2 out onto this
iconic circuit.”
Dirk Werner (Car Number 78):
“I am very
motivated going into the season finale of the Le Mans Series, which is
also the curtain-raiser to the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. The
circuit is very interesting, particularly as a result of the new
layout. I think we have improved since our last start in the LMS, and
hope we can challenge for a place on the podium. I have already won
the 24-hour race at Silverstone on two occasions with BMW, so I feel
very at home there.”
