BMW Motorsport News – Issue 39/13.

Summary
Podium for the BMW 320 TC at the World Championship finale – FIA GT Series looks ahead to final race of the season in Baku.

Whether in the DTM, the American Le Mans Series, or countless other championships: week after week BMW teams and drivers around the world do battle for points, victories and titles. Away from the track too, members of the large BMW Motorsport family around the world are also creating headlines. The “BMW Motorsport News” allows us to regularly summarise all the action for you in a compact and informative manner. This way, you are always up to speed.

FIA WTCC: Coronel third in Macau.

The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) concluded with two action-packed races at the spectacular “Guia Circuit” in Macau (CN) – and the BMW 320 TC produced another top result in the narrow urban canyons of the former Portuguese colony. ROAL Motorsport driver Tom Coronel (NL) finished third in Sunday’s second race, crossing the finish line 1.173 seconds behind winner Rob Huff (GB, SEAT). As well as Coronel, local favourite Henry Ho also finished in the points for the Engstler team, coming home ninth. In the first race of the day, Stefano d’Aste (IT, PB Racing) and Coronel had both picked up points in eighth and tenth. “Major Tom” ended the season as the best-placed BMW driver in tenth place with 163 points. In the Independents’ Trophy, Mehdi Bennani (MA, Proteam) was the top BMW representative with 102 points in fourth place. The BMW 320 TC claimed three wins and eight podiums in 2013.

FIA GT Series: four BMW Z4 GT3s in action at the finale.

While most European racing series have already reached their conclusion, the FIA GT Series will line up for the final race weekend of its season on 23rd/24th November. Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, will host the championship finale. Among the provisional list of entries are three BMW teams looking for another good result to round off the season. BMW Sports Trophy Team Brazil will, as usual, line up with two BMW Z4 GT3s, while TDS Racing will do battle for a top finish in the Pro-Am Cup. BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS is sending one car to Baku: the number 4 BMW Z4 GT3 will be driven by Maxime Martin (BE) and Nicky Catsburg (NL).
