Munich/Dingolfing. One out of two million: A BMW i5 M60 xDrive sedan in Tansanit Blue assembled at Plant Dingolfing is the two-millionth all-electric vehicle produced by the BMW Group. The anniversary vehicle is going to a customer in Spain.

BMW Group Plant Dingolfing: home to the most all-electric models

Plant Dingolfing began series production of all-electric automobiles in 2021 with the BMW iX. Today, it builds the widest range of BEV models within the BMW Group: the BMW iX, the BMW i5 sedan and touring, and the BMW i7. Since 2021, more than 320,000 all-electric vehicles have already been built at the Lower Bavarian site. This means that almost every sixth of the BMW Group’s total of two million BEVs comes from Dingolfing. In 2025, more than a quarter of the vehicles produced at Plant Dingolfing were all-electric.

Clear strategy with maximum flexibility

As part of the BMW iFACTORY, the BMW Group continues to pursue a technology-open approach in its plants: vehicles with different powertrains are flexibly produced in a mixed build on a single production line. For several years now, at least one all-electric model has been rolling off the line at every German BMW Group plant - e-mobility has become the new normal across the company’s production network. In doing so, the BMW Group is making a significant contribution to Germany being the world’s second-largest production location for electric cars today.

Kot drugi model v družini Neue Klasse predstavlja tehnološki kvantni preskok v novo ero. Prvi popolnoma električni BMW serije 3 prihaja kot BMW i3 50 xDrive, opremljen z električnim motorjem na sprednji in zadnji osi. Skupna sistemska moč znaša 345 kW/469 KM¹, največji navor pa 645 Nm¹. Izjemno učinkovita tehnologija BMW eDrive šeste generacije skupaj z novim BMW Panoramic iDrive in Heart of Joy postavlja užitek v vožnji na popolnoma novo raven. Z BMW Symbiotic Drive tudi asistirana vožnja vstopa v novo obdobje. BMW i3 predstavlja tudi sodobno interpretacijo značilnih oblikovnih elementov BMW limuzine.

Kot predstavnik novega oblikovnega jezika je novi BMW i3 takoj prepoznaven kot BMW serije 3 – samozavesten, dinamičen in inteligenten. Značilni športni proporci BMW se odražajo v novi oblikovni '2,5-box' zasnovi. Opazni elementi so dolga medosna razdalja, kabina, ki se proti zadku spušča, ter kratki previsi. Sprednji del s prepoznavnimi 'štirimi očesi' je znan, a hkrati nov. BMW osvetlitev ledvičk in dvojni žarometi se združijo v inovativni svetlobni podpis, ki ustvarja močno in izrazno celoto. Zadnji del z izrazito vodoravnimi zadnjimi lučmi dodatno poudarja natančnost in tehnološki napredek. Široko izbočeni blatniki poudarjajo športno, široko držo novega BMW i3. Notranjost ponuja visoko raven prostornosti in v celoti izkorišča vse možnosti zasnove vozila, ki je dosledno usmerjena v elektromobilnost. Hkrati predstavlja k vozniku usmerjeno športnost. Novi BMW Panoramic iDrive ne le definira sodobno in vabljivo notranjost, ampak uvaja tudi novo raven značilne BMW osredotočenosti na voznika.

Športnost in užitek v vožnji sta neločljivo zapisana v DNK BMW serije 3, kjer novi BMW i3 postavlja nove standarde. Z maksimalnim izkoristkom edinstvenih zmožnosti elektromobilnosti ponuja impresivno natančno, lahkotno in samozavestno vodljivost. Visokozmogljiv računalnik Heart of Joy oblikuje vozno doživetje v BMW i3. Njegovi odzivi so desetkrat hitrejši kot pri prejšnjih sistemih. Skupaj s tremi drugimi visokozmogljivimi »supermožgani« tvori osrednji del nove programske in elektronske arhitekture.

Novi BMW i3 izstopa po odlični primernosti za dolge razdalje. Doseg znaša do 900 kilometrov¹ (po testnem ciklu WLTP). Zmožnost DC-polnjenja do 400 kW drastično skrajša čas polnjenja. Hitri enosmerni polnilnik lahko v 10 minutah doda energijo za do 400 km¹ (po ISO 12906, WLTP). Tehnologija BMW eDrive šeste generacije je temelj tega hitrega napredka – vključuje izjemno učinkovite električne motorje, 800-voltno tehnologijo ter nove visokonapetostne baterije z novimi okroglimi celicami. Uporabljena zasnova »cell-to-pack« omogoča visoke energijske gostote na ravni baterijskega paketa ter bolj plosko visokonapetosno baterijo. BMW i3 podpira tudi funkcije dvosmernega polnjenja: Vehicle-to-Load (zahteva izbirno AC polnjenje Professional), Vehicle-to-Home in Vehicle-to-Grid.

BMW i3 je izdelan v tovarni BMW Group v Münchnu, ki je matična tovarna BMW Group. Že več kot sto let tovarna v Milbertshofnu na severu Münchna proizvaja premijska vozila. V zadnjih štirih letih je tovarna doživela obsežno modernizacijo: poleg nove karosernice je bila zgrajena napredna montažna linija z logističnimi prostori. Novi objekti so v zaključni fazi širitve. Proizvodnja novega BMW i3 se bo v teh halah začela avgusta 2026. Prva vozila bodo kupcem dostavljena jeseni letos. Munich. In the BMW i3, as with the BMW iX3, the BMW Group applies a 360° approach to sustainability. At its core is decarbonisation throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle – from product development through the supply chain and production to the end of the use phase. In this way, the second Neue Klasse model also contributes to achieving the ambitious, overarching CO₂e targets the company has set itself.

CO₂e benefits already after 1-2 years of use.
Depending on the drive train variant, annual mileage and source of the electricity used for charging, the new BMW i3 50xDrive already achieves a CO₂e advantage over a comparable model with an internal combustion engine after one to two years of use[1].

Decarbonisation in the supply chain.
Targeted decarbonisation is a key starting point for reducing CO₂e emissions throughout the supply chain. The use of renewable energies, the increasing share of secondary material, and product and process innovations – for example, in the Gen6 cell and high-voltage battery – contribute to a significant emissions reduction across the entire supply chain.
The results of this systematic approach are demonstrated by the emission reductions achieved: Specific measures during product development of the BMW i3 lowered supply chain CO₂e emissions by about a third.[2]

Innovative materials and technologies for interior and exterior.
The “Design for Circularity” principle is also systematically applied in the new BMW i3. The concept incorporates gradually increased use of secondary materials, targeted reduction of material selection and optimised dismantling capability.
For example, the BMW i3 uses 30 percent recycled plastic in its front bumper trim. At the same time, the number of different materials used for the entire bumper, excluding mounted parts, was reduced from 15 to 7, compared to the predecessor model (seventh-generation BMW 3 Series). Due to the high use of a plastic particularly suitable for recycling, the proportion of recyclable plastic was increased from approximately 46 percent in the predecessor to about 85 percent[3]. This enables the recovery of high-quality plastic recyclates from the vehicle.
Another example of how the “Design for Circularity” principle is implemented in the new BMW i3 is the Econeer seat covers offered as part of the “Essential” equipment line, which are made from a recyclable textile composite. The basic material for the upper fabric is 100-percent recycled PET. The use of recycled PET granulate – as the base material for the polyester yarn required – significantly reduces CO₂e emissions and water consumption during manufacturing compared to primary material. The dismantling capability of the seat cover has also been improved to facilitate a material-specific separation at the end of the lifecycle.

Use of secondary materials in the new BMW i3.
The new BMW i3 consists of approx. 30 percent secondary materials in total[4]^: These include cast aluminium components, such front and rear knuckle, with 80 percent secondary material content, and cast aluminium wheel rims with 70 percent secondary aluminium.The housing for the rear electric motor, produced at BMW Plant Landshut, comprises up to two-thirds secondary aluminium. A portion of the energy used in production comes from renewable sources.
In the Gen6 battery cells of the BMW i3 high‑voltage battery, secondary materials are partially used for cobalt, lithium and nickel. Energy from renewable sources is used in manufacturing the anode and cathode materials, as well as for cell production. In comparison to the previous model’s Gen5 cell, CO₂e emissions were reduced by approx. 33 percent per watt hour.
Further examples of the innovative use of engineering and secondary materials include the engine compartment cover and the storage compartment under the BMW i3's bonnet. The starting material for these consists of 30 percent recycled maritime plastic – post-consumer material from used fishing nets and ropes – while the base material for the yarn used in the textiles for the headliner, A-pillar and parcel shelf consists entirely of recycled material.

Enhanced efficiency during use phase.
With the EfficientDynamics technology package, vehicle efficiency is optimised across all subsystems during the use phase.
This encompasses aerodynamics, lightweight construction, rolling resistance and overall energy management, for example. Efficientynamics has been employed by the BMW Group since 2007, across all drive technologies.

BMW Group Plant Munich undergoes extensive modernisation.
BMW Group Plant Munich is the BMW Group’s main plant.For more than a century, the plant has been producing premium mobility in Munich’s Milbertshofen district. Over the past four years, the site has been completely modernised: In addition to a new body shop, a state-of-the-art vehicle assembly was also built, including logistics areas. The new facilities are now in the final stages of construction. Production of the new BMW i3 will get underway here in 2026. Just one year later, the Munich location will transition its production portfolio to exclusively fully-electric vehicles for the Neue Klasse. As the BMW Group’s oldest automobile production site, the plant sources 100 percent of its external electricity requirements from renewable energy.

In line with BMW Group’s sustainable development goals.
The BMW Group’s commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement and to reaching “net zero” no later than 2050 is an integral part of its holistic 360° approach to sustainability, which is anchored in its corporate strategy. The company has set itself ambitious science-based CO₂e targets for the coming years. The BMW Group intends to reduce its CO₂e emissions by a total of at least 40 million tonnes from 2019 levels by 2030.

Transparency through Product Carbon Footprint .
The BMW Group has published its vehicles’ Product Carbon Footprint, as validated by the German Technical Inspection Association (TÜV), for many years in the so-called Vehicle Footprint. This report is publicly available here for all drive trains of the new BMW 3 Series from the Start of Production and can also be accessed in the My BMW app. In this way, the BMW Group creates transparency around the percentage of secondary materials and CO₂e emissions across the vehicles’ entire lifecycle.

Munich/Arjeplog. The BMW 3 Series has been the embodiment of driving pleasure in the premium midsize class for five decades. All over the world, this icon of the BMW brand is renowned for its superior sportiness, precise handling and effortless agility, combined with long-distance driving comfort. As the latest generation BMW 3 Series is getting ready for launch, so is the first sedan model of the Neue Klasse: the fully electric BMW i3. Prototypes are currently undergoing a comprehensive test programme at the BMW Group winter test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden.

The BMW i3 will have its design premiere on 18 March 2026. The new fully electric model generation features a sixth-generation eDrive (Gen6). “The BMW i3 applies the sporty sedan’s typical characteristics to a completely new vehicle concept defined by the BMW 3 Series DNA. At the same time, pushing the conventional boundaries of electric mobility into new territory, thanks to the potential of our Neue Klasse,” says Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW. The control unit consisting of the “superbrain” Heart of Joy and the BMW Dynamic Performance Control driving stack takes driving dynamics to an entirely new level. As the BMW i3 approaches series-production readiness, the test and development team is performing the final fine-tuning of driving dynamics components on the snow-covered roads and frozen lakes of Sweden.

Test drives for fine-tuning in extremely cold weather are a key part of vehicle testing. 
Endurance tests in freezing temperatures and wintry road conditions in Sweden’s extreme north are a long-standing BMW tradition. The snow-covered roads around Arjeplog and the specially prepared surfaces of frozen lakes provide the ideal environment for evaluating and fine-tuning drive and suspension systems Electronic control systems are a good example – the low friction coefficients of surfaces covered by snow and ice enable engineers to test, analyse and optimise the interactions of these systems under precisely reproducible conditions. This provides the foundation of the hallmark BMW driving pleasure. 

Highly innovative overall concept is key to an outstanding driving experience.
The Heart of Joy is one of four “superbrains” in the Neue Klasse. Complemented by the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software developed in-house, it forms the powerful new driving and dynamics control unit in the BMW i3, controlling the powertrain, brakes and some steering functions along with recuperation. Its responses are ten times faster than with previous systems. The result of this technological quantum leap is evident in the particularly effortless and exceptionally precise handling of the new BMW i3.

Even on slippery surfaces like those in Arjeplog, the Heart of Joy ensures agile propulsion. In addition, the extremely fast control of the two electric motors ensures superior driving stability. Only electric motors are capable of processing and executing the lightning-fast commands. This enables the BMW i3 to deliver a light-footed and comfortable drive in every situation. And with typical BMW 3 Series characteristics, it sets new standards in driving dynamics.

Even at the limits, the BMW i3 offers an extremely safe driving experience.
The new BMW i3 can be controlled with maximum precision. It responds instantly to steering inputs and creates a feeling of effortlessness. The Heart of Joy reduces the number of control interventions required – for example by the DSC system. The resulting cornering behaviour is more consistent and reproducible, giving the driver an even greater sense of assurance. In addition, the BMW i3 remains easy to control even when approaching the limits. The Soft-Stop function of the new BMW i3 is exceptional: precise control of the electric motors enables the smoothest stopping process in the history of the BMW 3 Series, without jerks and brake noise. The exceptional stability that the Heart of Joy provides, even on slippery surfaces like those found in Arjeplog, also improves efficiency. The precise control processes of the Heart of Joy allow the BMW i3 to recuperate energy as often and as intensely as possible, even when cornering, without compromising driving stability. “Sheer driving pleasure” redefined.

Munich. Electric drivetrain upgrades, new engine variants, as well as additional standard and optional equipment features will make the current BMW model range even more attractive and versatile in spring 2025. The use of new components for the power electronics and other measures designed to optimise efficiency have resulted in a considerably increased range for the all-electric BMW i5. Standard equipment on all BMW 5 Series models will soon include ambient lighting complete with a BMW Interaction Bar featuring a crystalline surface, lumbar support for both front seats as well as the Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system. 

Two new variants of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will become available in April 2025. The BMW X3 model range will likewise be expanded, with a powerful six-cylinder in-line diesel engine. Almost 50 per cent higher charging rates – that’s the news for the plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 7 Series and the BMW XM models. With the BMW Digital Key Plus, owners can, depending on the type of mobile device, activate up to 18 digital vehicle keys with individually configured access permissions. The new tyre repair kit Plus will become part of the standard equipment for selected BMW models from March 2025. It enables owners to continue their journey even with a tyre puncture. Adaptive LED Headlights will become part of the standard equipment for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models in spring 2025. 

BMW i5 and BMW i5 Touring now even more energy-efficient.

From March 2025 the all-electric models of the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring will benefit from a number of technical advances that reduce their energy consumption. The result is a noticeably greater range, with an increase of up to 47 kilometres (depending on the model and equipment installed as part of an individual vehicle configuration). This owes much to the first ever use of silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC converter) of the BMW i5 and to particularly low-rolling-resistance tyres fitted to aerodynamic alloy wheels. The optimised wheel bearings will also help save power.

19" aerodynamic wheels 1056 bi-colour are available for the first time as an option for the BMW i5 eDrive40 (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 18.0–17.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A) and the BMW i5 xDrive40 (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 18.9–18.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A).

The optimisations for the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 19.5–19.4 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A) lower WLTP energy consumption by up to 9 per cent (depending on model and equipment installed as part of an individual vehicle configuration), while the new BMW i5 eDrive40 saves up to 8 per cent. 

Standard equipment on the BMW i5 M60 xDrive (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): energy consumption 19.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class A) now includes the M Sport package Pro. In addition, the BMW 5 Series models benefit from further interior upgrades. From now on, all models include the previously optional ambient lighting with the BMW Interaction Bar featuring a crystalline surface as standard. In addition, they now come with lumbar support for both front seats, as well as the Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system. The switchgear in the doors has also been upgraded and is now finished in high-gloss Black. BMW Individual Merino Leather in Black/Dark Violet is available as a new option for customising the interior.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Two additional powertrain variants.
The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range available from March 2025 will include a new entry-level variant. The new BMW 216 Gran Coupé (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): fuel consumption 6.4 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions 145 g/km; CO₂ class E) offers a particularly attractive introduction to the world of hallmark BMW driving pleasure. Its 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine has 90 kW/122 hp of power and a peak torque of 230 Nm. The standard seven-speed double-clutch Steptronic transmission directs engine power to the front wheels. Accelerating the new BMW 216 Gran Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.9 seconds.

The new BMW 223 xDrive Gran Coupé (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): fuel consumption 6.4–6.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 144 g/km; CO₂ class E) adds an all-wheel drive variant with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to the range. Its four-cylinder petrol engine and integrated electric motor deliver a total system output of 160 kW/218 hp. This powertrain adds to the car’s efficiency and is capable of particularly fast responses. The new BMW 223 xDrive Gran Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. Production of the two new
BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé models will start in March 2025 at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, Germany. The BMW kidney Iconic Glow is available as part of the Innovation package and enables a purposeful customisation of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé’s exterior. It provides unique visuals, especially after dark. This option can also be ordered for the BMW 1 Series.

BMW X3 40d xDrive: Especially powerful six-cylinder diesel.
A 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line diesel from the latest BMW Group engine generation will complement the BMW X3 powertrain range from May 2025. It will make the new BMW X3 40d xDrive (combined, WLTP (EnVKV): fuel consumption 6.7 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions 177 g/km; CO₂ class G) the most powerful diesel variant of this premium executive Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). Its highly efficient powertrain offers 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, a combined output of 223 kW/303 hp and 670 Nm of peak torque. The system’s electric motor is integrated into the eight‑speed Steptronic transmission. The new BMW X3 40d xDrive takes 5.4 seconds to get to 100 km/h from a standing start; its top speed is 245 km/h. It is produced at the BMW Group Plant Rosslyn in South Africa.

Higher charging rates for everyday driving without generating local emissions.
A faster AC charging rate, increased from 7.4 kW to 11 kW, will result in significantly reduced charging times for various BMW plug-in hybrid models from March 2025. This will benefit the plug-in hybrid variants of the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 7 Series and all BMW XM models.

BMW Digital Key Plus as standard in the new BMW iX.

In the new BMW iX, the BMW Digital Key Plus will become the driver’s first choice for vehicle access from March 2025. The package also includes a physical key, a Setup Card and a Service Card. The new Setup Card makes installing the Digital Key Plus on a smartphone easier than ever. Users can simply hold the card close to their mobile device or scan the QR code on the back. Once activated, drivers can safely share the Digital Key Plus with others, using a simple text message. Depending on the mobile device, up to 18 digital keys can be activated soon. Different roles and permissions can be set for the vehicle when sharing the keys. For example, the vehicle’s acceleration and top speed can be limited – a particularly useful feature for novice drivers. Moreover, the BMW Digital Key Plus enables additional control functions from the vehicle’s vicinity, such as having the BMW iX enter or exit a parking space via the My BMW app. And if there ever is a need to hand over a physical key, for example for service visits or in the event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be activated as a full-fledged key with a single click.

Other digital improvements and enhancements.
The popular YouTube* video app has been available for vehicles with BMW Operating System 9 since January 2025, provided the customer has activated BMW Digital Premium. Furthermore, the Personal eSIM in BMW Operating System 9 can now be activated for improved telephony and a WiFi hotspot in the vehicle. Vehicles with BMW Operating System 8.5 benefit from a more intuitive BMW Maps interface.

Tyre repair kit Plus: Remaining mobile the easy way.

The new tyre repair kit Plus, part of the standard equipment for selected BMW models from March 2025, enables customers to continue their journey even with a tyre puncture. This requires just a few simple steps that are explained in the vehicle’s Integrated Owner’s Handbook. The one-piece tyre repair kit includes a magnet and connector pin to secure it to the hub of the affected wheel. A hose then fills the tyre with air and aerosol sealant using an integrated compressor. Once a sufficient tyre pressure above 1.5 bar has been achieved, the journey can be continued, with the device safely attached to the wheel hub. Drivers can now

cover a range of up to 200 kilometres at a top speed of 80 km/h. This should easily get them to the nearest service centre. From spring 2025 the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW iX and various models of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will come with this equipment feature. The tyre repair kit Plus is also included with the models of the BMW 5 Series Sedan (except for the BMW 5 Series Sedan with all-electric or plug-in hybrid drive and standard 19-inch light alloy wheels Triplex-spoke style 933 Silver).

BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7 and BMW M5: Added equipment.
The comprehensive standard equipment on the BMW X5 and BMW X6 will from spring 2025 include adaptive matrix LED headlights. The BMW X7 will always come with the Parking Assistant Professional. Standard equipment for the M60i xDrive powertrain version of all three model series will also include the M Sport package Pro, the Harman Kardon surround sound system and sun protection glazing.

The BMW M5 will also benefit from more comprehensive equipment. Two new upholstery options are available to add special accents to the interior. In addition to BMW Individual Taupe Grey/Deep Lagoon Merino Leather, BMW Individual Black/Dark Violet Merino Leather is available as a new colourway. In all BMW M5 variants, as well as in all BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring models, the trim and switches for the power windows, mirror adjustment and tailgate button are finished in high-gloss Black with a 3D effect as standard.

New light alloy wheels for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1.

17-inch light alloy wheels Star-spoke style 875 will be available for various BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1 models from March 2025.

The imposing power delivery and emotionally engaging performance experience served up by the new BMW M5 are accompanied by a new interpretation of the high-performance car design for which M is renowned. Prominent wheel arch and side skirt extensions, the sculptural front apron and model-specific surfacing around the C-pillar – including an embossed “M5” logo for the Hofmeister kink – give the car an athletic appearance that helps to differentiate it more clearly than ever from the BMW 5 Series Sedan. At the same time, an unusually high proportion of surfaces painted in body colour create a puristic appearance with stylish references to its superior dynamic talents.

As such, the exterior design – like the ambience of the luxurious interior, which is enhanced with M-specific features – accentuates the multi-layered character of the new BMW M5. Its sense of poise and assurance is fuelled by vast reserves of power that can be summoned at any time. Kept discreetly in reserve during relaxed, electric-only cruises, this performance comes vividly to the fore as the BMW M5 reveals the “sporty sedan” side to its personality over longer distances – and is unleashed in full during sessions on the track.

The M HYBRID system, plus power transmission and chassis technology tuned to its specific performance characteristics, give the new BMW M5 transverse and longitudinal dynamics unparalleled in this market segment. Together with its similarly outstanding elasticity, the new BMW M5 takes M performance into a new dimension.

The world premiere of the new BMW M5 will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England in July 2024, with production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing beginning the same month. The worldwide market launch of the new BMW M5 will start in November 2024 and be accompanied by the introduction of the new BMW M5 Touring at the same time. The most important sales regions for the high-performance sedan are North America and Europe. The USA is the single biggest individual market by some distance, followed by Great Britain, Germany, South Korea, China, Japan and Canada.

M HYBRID drive system in the new BMW M5: intoxicating performance, impressive electric range.

The M HYBRID drive system in the new BMW M5 brings a 4.4-litre
V8 engine with classical high-revving character together with an electric motor, whose performance characteristics are tuned specifically for the BMW M5 and which is integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The combustion engine benefits from cutting-edge M TwinPower Turbo technology, a cross-bank exhaust manifold and optimised oil separation. It develops maximum output of 430 kW/585 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The maximum output of the electric motor is 145 kW/197 hp. It has nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft), but a pre-gearing stage allows effective torque at the transmission input to be increased to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft).

The combination of combustion engine and electric motor adheres to the same principle as the drive system in the BMW M Hybrid V8 endurance racing machine. The ability of the electric motor to generate its power instantly and the intelligently controlled interplay of the combustion engine and motor ensure the M HYBRID system responds without delay to every movement of the accelerator. The linear power delivery typical of BMW M models is found here in particularly compelling form. The eight-cylinder engine can spin to a maximum 7,200 rpm as the new BMW M5 treats its driver to the sensation of relentless power development into the upper reaches of the load and speed ranges. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) as standard, but the limiter can be raised to 305 km/h (189 mph) if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified.

The sports exhaust system of the new BMW M5 underscores the performance experience with a multi-faceted and emotionally enthralling engine note. It features electrically controlled, continuously adjustable flaps and the two pairs of dual tailpipes familiar from other M models, each with 100-millimetre trims in Black Chrome.

Providing an acoustic accompaniment to the power delivery of the electric motor is BMW IconicSounds Electric. This M-specific electric drive sound provides authentic responses to movements of the accelerator when the car is operating in all-electric mode. With the relevant drive system configuration, it also generates an engaging track to highlight the arrival of extra electric power on top of the output from the V8 engine.

In all-electric operating mode, the new BMW M5 can hit speeds of up to 140 km/h (87 mph). The high-voltage battery located low in the car’s underbody has 18.6 kWh of usable energy, enabling an electric range of 67 – 69 kilometres (42 – 43 miles) in the WLTP cycle, which is unmatched by any rival. The Combined Charging Unit of the new BMW M5 allows AC charging at up to 7.4 kW.

The power generated by the combustion engine and electric motor is channelled to the road via the all-wheel-drive system M xDrive, whose rear-biased setup is particularly pronounced in 4WD Sport mode. However, the driver can also select 2WD mode. This sends drive exclusively to the rear wheels with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system switched off, which will appeal to experienced drivers who prefer a performance experience of the pure-bred variety. This further developed iteration of M xDrive – like the electronically controlled Active M Differential at the rear axle – is tailored specially to the performance characteristics of the M HYBRID drive system.

Sophisticated chassis technology with M-specific tuning.

The chassis design of the new BMW M5 comprises a double-wishbone front axle and a five-link rear axle with bespoke kinematics and elastokinematics, plus a host of other specially tuned components. The electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering with M Servotronic and variable steering ratio has a rigid connection to the front axle subframe to ensure optimal feedback from the road and a high degree of directional accuracy. In conjunction with the wide tracks and the excellent torsional rigidity of the body and chassis mountings, this combination produces the handling attributes for which BMW M models are renowned, shaped by agility, precision and the linear build-up of lateral forces when the driver is pushing on.

Also fitted as standard are adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering, which steers the rear wheels by up to 1.5 degrees. M-specific tuning, the individually selectable settings and the ability to adjust the dampers at each wheel individually optimise the body’s connection to the road and maximise the car’s spread of talents – from everyday driving comfort to race-ready dynamic prowess. Turning the rear wheels as required improves directional stability at high speed, as well as agility and comfort when manoeuvring.

Traction, agility and directional stability all benefit from near-actuator wheel slip limitation and the networking of all control systems within the integrated transverse dynamics management setup. Both the standard M Compound brakes and optional M Carbon ceramic brakes combine with an integrated braking system that presents the driver with two pedal feel settings. M light-alloy wheels (20-inch at the front axle,
21-inch at the rear) come as standard and are fitted with high-performance tyres.

Assistance systems for assured and comfortable driving.

A much wider selection of standard and optional systems for automated driving and parking than was offered for the predecessor model takes assurance and comfort in day-to-day driving to another new level. Standard specification for the new BMW M5 brings features such as front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning including lane return with steering assistance, the Evasion Assistant, the Attentiveness Assistant and the Speed Limit Info system. The optional Driving Assistant Professional adds Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function together with tech including the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, traffic light detection, automatic Speed Limit Assist and Active Navigation.

The new BMW M5 is equipped as standard with the Parking Assistant including Reversing Assistant. Meanwhile, the optional Parking Assistant Professional allows automated parking and manoeuvring over a distance of up to 200 metres to be controlled from inside the car or by smartphone from outside the car.

Fresh scope for adjusting the driving experience to personal taste.

The control panel on the centre console of the new BMW M5 houses a model-specific composition of buttons which can be used to tailor the driving experience to individual preferences in a variety of ways. The Setup button provides direct access to the configuration of the drive system, Drivelogic, chassis, steering, braking system and M xDrive, as well as the intensity of brake energy recuperation. Two overall vehicle setups can be stored and selected using the M buttons on the steering wheel. The Launch Control function is available in all the M Setup menu settings with the exception of the M xDrive system’s 2WD mode.

Pushing the DSC button activates M Dynamic Mode, which raises the DSC intervention thresholds when it comes to applying brake inputs and reducing engine output. It is also possible to switch DSC off completely. Another button allows the driver to select M Mode. When they switch from the default ROAD setting to SPORT, interventions from the driver assistance systems are restricted to just the essential functions required for sporty driving, as is the content shown in the information display. If the customer specifies the optional M Drive Professional, they can also make use of TRACK mode. Other features of M Drive Professional include the M Laptimer and the Boost Control function, which maximises longitudinal dynamics when executing mid-range sprints and overtaking manoeuvres.

The operating mode of the M HYBRID system can also be adjusted as desired. The new M Hybrid button allows the driver to choose between HYBRID mode – for intelligently controlled interplay between the combustion engine and electric motor to maximise either efficiency or performance, depending on the driving situation – and the ELECTRIC setting, in which the combustion engine is only brought into play by accelerator kickdown or using the gearshift paddles. eCONTROL mode is used for effective brake energy recuperation and maintaining battery charge at a constant level. And M Drive Professional adds DYNAMIC and DYNAMIC PLUS modes to the mix, which prime the drive system and cooling system to keep output at a constantly high level or generate short bursts of maximum output during committed track driving.

Progressive sports car cockpit, M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display, exclusive ambience.

As well as the M-specific control panel on the centre console, the progressive sports car cockpit of the new BMW M5 also contains a newly designed, flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with illuminated M buttons, M multifunction seats with a wide range of electric adjustment and the BMW Curved Display which, like the standard BMW Head-Up Display, includes M-specific content. The standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional also brings the BMW Maps navigation system and the Augmented View function on the control display.

An upgraded version of BMW iDrive features as standard in the new BMW M5. It is based on BMW Operating System 8.5 and designed squarely for use via touch control and natural speech. The digital tech now also covers the controls for the climate control functions. Temperature selection, airflow intensity, seat heating and – if specified – the steering wheel heating can now be controlled by touch via a menu item in the lower section of the control display or by voice command.

Also playing their part in the exclusive interior ambience are the standard Merino leather trim, the BMW Interaction Bar, four-zone air conditioning, heated front seats, ambient lighting with M-specific interior lighting including Welcome Animation, and the panoramic glass sunroof. And standard specification for the new BMW M5 also provides customers with the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, a wireless charging tray, Comfort Access, an alarm system, automatic tailgate operation and the charging cable Professional.

Among the items on the options list are the M Carbon exterior package, an Alcantara headliner, steering wheel heating, active seat ventilation and a trailer tow hitch. Model-specific BMW M Performance Parts will also be offered for the new BMW M5 from launch. The selection includes M Performance forged light-alloy wheels and exterior components made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).

Visokonapetostna baterija se lahko iz praznega stanja popolnoma napolni v 2 urah in 15 minutah. Prav tako je mogoča poraba domačega polnjenja (Connected Home Charging) z optimizacijo glede na solarno energijo in tovor.
• Razpon priključno-hibridnih vozil zdaj združen v novo BMW 330e Limuzino in novi BMW 330e Touring. Pri obeh je mogoče izbrati bodisi pogon na zadnja kolesa bodisi BMW xDrive. For this new edition of the storied model series, the most powerful version of the six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology produces output of 390 kW/530 hp. In the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 10.2 – 10.1 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.0 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 230 – 227 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO₂ class: G) and new BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 10.4 – 10.3 l/100 km [27.2 – 27.4 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 235 – 233 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO₂ class: G), the increased engine power is channelled via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic to all four wheels.

The power unit in the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan (fuel consumption, combined: 9.9 – 9.7 l/100 km [28.5 – 29.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 224 – 220 g/km in the WLTP cycle,
CO₂ class: G) generates maximum output of 375 kW/510 hp. It also links up with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and sends its power through the rear wheels. And for owners seeking a pure-bred performance experience not offered by any segment rival, the new BMW M3 Sedan (fuel consumption, combined: 10.1 – 10.0 l/100 km [28.0 – 28.2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 230 – 227 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO₂ class: G) teams the 353 kW/480 hp variant of the straight-six engine with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

All model variants of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Touring will be built at BMW Group Plant Munich. They will be launched worldwide with a production phase-in in July 2024. The most important sales regions for the BMW M3 Sedan are the USA, China, Great Britain, Australia and Germany. The BMW M3 Touring is extremely popular above all in Germany, but also in Great Britain, other European countries and Australia.

Now in its sixth model generation, the BMW M3 is more powerful, more poised and assured, more advanced and more versatile than ever. The sedan is continuing a high-performance sports car bloodline that stretches back almost 40 years. The first generation of the BMW M3, unveiled in 1986, went on to become the most successful model in touring car racing worldwide. Then, as now, a car’s success in motor sport was accompanied by steadily increasing popularity for the production model and rare levels of excitement for its owner out on the road.

The race-car feeling associated with the BMW M3 – present at the driver’s fingertips over every mile of a journey – can be experienced in totally different ways with this latest generation. The BMW M3 Sedan now lines up alongside a Touring model, the BMW M3 Touring fusing the performance attributes for which this model series is renowned with additional practicality and expanded load-carrying ability. It is available exclusively with the most powerful version of the six-cylinder in-line engine for the BMW M3/M4 and the M xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. Folding down the rear seat backrests increases load compartment capacity from 500 to a maximum 1,510 litres.

With its new vehicle concept for the premium midsize class, BMW M GmbH caused an instant sensation not only among fans of the brand but also in the ranks of professional experts. In its first full year of production, the BMW M3 Touring won the “Golden Steering Wheel” award presented by motoring magazine “Auto Bild” and the “Bild am Sonntag” newspaper in Germany. In Great Britain, it was crowned “Dream Car” of the year by “Autocar” magazine, while “Top Gear” magazine gave it the title “All The Car You’ll Ever Need” in its “Car of the Year Awards”.

With their distinct body concepts and specific qualities, the Sedan and Touring models occupy very different character spaces within the M3 range. One of their most important shared elements is their visually striking design with hallmark M features crafted precisely to meet the technical demands of cooling air supply and aerodynamic balance. The large, vertical BMW kidney grille with signature M double bars arranged horizontally, the powerfully sculpted wheel arches, the extended side skirts in contrasting Black high-gloss and the attachment parts for the front and rear aprons all provide clear pointers to the dynamic potential of the two models. The BMW M3 Sedan has a carbon-fibre roof as standard. The roof of the BMW M3 Touring, like its standard-fit roof rails, comes in black. It has a Gurney flap on the roof spoiler as an additional air-directing element.

Engine technology borrows from motor racing.

All the variants of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Touring feature a high-revving straight-six engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. In all its output variants, the 3.0-litre unit stands out with its healthy appetite for revs into the highest reaches of the engine speed range and so produces the linear power delivery typical of high-performance models from BMW M GmbH.

Numerous elements adapted from race-car engine construction allow the power unit in the M3 to deliver an unmistakable performance experience on both road and track. The crankcase, with its sleeve-free, closed-deck construction, is extremely rigid and teams up with a forged crankshaft with lightweight design to unlock extremely high torque potential. The cylinder bores have a wire-arc sprayed iron coating. And the 3D-printed core for the cylinder head – another special M-specific feature – enables optimised routing of the coolant ducts that would be impossible to achieve using conventional metal casting methods.

Like the cooling system, the oil circuit is also designed to handle the particular challenges of track driving. A map-controlled oil pump ensures reliable oil supply even under extreme longitudinal and lateral acceleration.

The M TwinPower Turbo technology here comprises two mono-scroll turbochargers, each of which supplies compressed air to three cylinders. An indirect intercooler supplied by a low-temperature circuit plus specially designed compressors further enhance the turbocharger’s power output. The package of technology also includes High Precision Injection – which works at maximum pressure of 350 bar to ensure fine atomisation of fuel and therefore faster engine response – as well as VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-VANOS fully variable camshaft timing.

The engine variant in the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and new BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive develops an extra 15 kW/20 hp thanks to optimised configuration of the digital engine control unit (DME). The six-cylinder in-line engine now generates maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp (up from the previous 375 kW/510 hp) at 6,250 rpm. The upgraded engine, which also serves as the basis for the unit powering the BMW M4 GT3, summons its peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) between 2,750 and a now even higher 5,730 rpm. The result is even more ferocious, sustained power delivery that adds another layer of intensity to the performance experience – in particular when the driver is exploring the car’s dynamic limits – and enables impressive acceleration figures.

The new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive accelerates
from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds, and the new BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive completes the same sprint in 3.6 seconds – only a touch longer, despite its higher kerb weight. The increased output of the two all-wheel-drive models is reflected in 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) times that are 0.5 seconds quicker in each case. The sedan now records a time of 11.8 seconds, the Touring 12.4 seconds.

All variants of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Touring have an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) as standard. However, if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified, this figure rises to 290 km/h (180 mph) for the sedans and 280 km/h (174 mph) for the Touring model, allowing drivers to utilise the full potential of the powerful engines.

Model-specific composition of engine, transmission and chassis.

The six-speed manual gearbox fitted in the new BMW M3 Sedan is, like the standard eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic of the Competition models, tuned to optimum effect to the performance characteristics of the engine at hand. Drivers favouring a sporty driving style will enjoy the benefits of the standard-fit gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, which allow the driver to make spontaneous interventions in the automatic transmission’s gear selection process as and when they decide. The driving experience can be tailored even more precisely to individual tastes by adapting the shift characteristics of the transmission according to requirements and the situation at hand using the Drivelogic button.

The two most powerful models are equipped with M xDrive to elevate traction to an even higher level. The rear-biased setup of the intelligent all-wheel-drive system further enhances the agility of the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and new BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive. The system teams up with the Active M Differential at the rear axle – whose operation is also fully variable – to add to the signature M feeling when powering through corners. In addition to the default 4WD setting, the driver can also select 4WD Sport mode via the M Setup menu. Here, a higher proportion of drive power is sent to the rear wheels for even more agile handling. Switching off DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) also brings 2WD mode into play, which means power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels. This mode offers skilled drivers a pure-bred driving experience without interventions from the control systems.

The high torsional stiffness of the body structure and chassis mountings creates the ideal platform for impressive driving dynamics and instantaneous response to steering commands. As well as the bracing elements in the BMW M3 Sedan, the BMW M3 Touring has additional torsion struts in the rear. This extra strengthening measure gives the Touring body variant the tools it needs to display the combination of dynamism, agility and handling precision typically found in BMW M models.

The M-specific kinematics and elastokinematics of the double-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle ensure the harmonious blend of extremely dynamic handling and finely judged comfort-focused qualities in everyday use and over longer journeys characteristic of all the models in the M3 range. The standard adaptive M suspension gives drivers the ability to adapt the responses of the electronically controlled dampers as they wish. Via the M Setup menu, drivers can select from three different settings to optimise the car’s handling in line with need and personal preference.

The package of chassis technology also includes M Servotronic steering and the integrated braking system, which works in conjunction with both the standard M Compound brakes and the optional M Carbon ceramic brakes. Both variants have six-piston fixed-calliper brakes at the front axle and single-piston floating-calliper brakes at the rear. As well as larger and more heat-resistant brake discs – which, thanks to their considerable ability to withstand fade, ensure uncompromising deceleration even under extreme conditions – the M Carbon ceramic brakes also stand out with their intelligent lightweight construction; they are around 14 kilograms lighter than the standard M Compound brakes. The reduction in unsprung mass plays a particularly significant role in delivering increased agility, enhanced handling, faster response and lower fuel consumption.

The standard blue brake callipers of the M Compound system can also be specified in red or black as an option. The callipers of the M Carbon ceramic brakes have a Gold metallic painted finish. All of the variations feature a striking BMW M logo on the brake callipers at the front axle as an additional identifier of M-typical performance at work.

The DSC system, meanwhile, ensures a form of driving pleasure unmatched by any rival. Indeed, with M Dynamic Mode it offers an ultra-sporty configuration that raises the system’s intervention thresholds when it comes to controlling braking inputs and delays the point at which it steps in to restrict engine output. This maximises the car’s performance dynamics with DSC switched on. The system can also be fully deactivated (DSC off).

The new BMW M3 Sedan can be specified as an option with the M Traction Control function. A standard feature on all Competition models, this slip control tech can be adjusted through ten stages according to the driver’s preferences or the road conditions at hand. It allows the control system inputs to be reduced in stages so that the driver can approach the physical limits in race action on the track, for example. The M Laptimer and M Drift Analyser help experienced drivers improve their lap times and hone their drifting skills. The integrated application of all drivetrain and chassis systems was fine-tuned at locations including the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, but it also ensures highly dynamic and at the same time precisely controllable handling in everyday driving.

Axle-specific wheel sizes, M forged light-alloy wheels with a new design.

All new BMW M3 model variants are fitted as standard with M forged light-alloy wheels in axle-specific rim sizes to the benefit of agility and handling. The two rear-wheel-drive high-performance sedans have Orbit Grey metallic M light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design measuring 18 inches at the front axle and 19 inches at the rear. Standard specification for the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and new BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive includes Jetblack forged light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design (19-inch at the front axle and 20-inch at the rear axle).

This combination is also optionally available for the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Competition Sedan. Plus, new forged M light-alloy wheels in 19-inch and 20-inch formats have been added to the extensive optional equipment roster for all model variants. These are now finished in the colour Silver for the first time, their bright, shiny surfaces ensuring a sporty yet also elegantly sophisticated appearance.

Extensive selection of assistance systems; M Mode button to call up personalised selection of functions.

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Touring set new standards in their segment with their extensive range of standard and optional automated driving and parking systems. In order to provide a dynamic experience that is both appropriate for the situation at hand and fits the high-performance sports car brief, the interventions of the driver assistance systems can be adjusted using the M Mode button on the centre console. For example, in the optional TRACK setting conceived for use on race circuits, all comfort and safety systems are temporarily deactivated.

Standard specification for all model variants includes Park Distance Control with sensors at the front and rear, Cruise Control with brake function, front collision warning system with brake intervention, Lane Departure Warning including lane return with steering assistance, and Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator. Among the items on the options list are the Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant including Reversing Assistant. Also available as an option for the Competition models is the Driving Assistant Professional, which adds functions such as the Steering and Lane Control Assistant with automatic Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assistant, traffic light detection and Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function.

Newly designed headlights and eye-catching details sharpen the cars’ visual character.

Newly designed LED headlights, which bring together low and high beam in a single module, bring fresh accents to the front end of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Touring. Two elegantly sculpted, subtly arrow-shaped and vertically arranged LED units in each module serve as both side lights/daytime driving lights and turn signal indicators. The technically focused impression created by the light sources, whose inner workings are now structured in a particularly striking way, ensures a progressive appearance which is also adopted by the slim LED rear lights with L-shaped taillights.

Adaptive LED Headlights with non-dazzling matrix high beam are available as an option, and include the cornering light function and urban lights. Blue inlays inside the headlights indicate the presence of this extremely sophisticated light technology. M Shadowline lights with dark inner accents are also available for cars specified with the Adaptive LED Headlights. The model badge on the boot lid of the Competition models is now accented by an elegant silver-coloured surround.

New steering wheels and interior trim elements for the M-specific sports car cockpit.

Open the door to the new edition of the high-performance models and the stripped-back design of the interior will provide an instant hit of motor sport DNA. New steering wheels and controls, plus highly sophisticated materials for the instrument panel and interior trim elements heighten the aura of exclusivity inside the M-specific sports car cockpit.

Also playing its part in the dynamic driving experience is a newly designed three-spoke M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons and red centre marker in the 12 o’clock position. It now has a flat-bottomed rim and precisely modified spokes. Two M buttons for selecting individually configured vehicle setups and the gearshift paddles – fitted as standard in the Competition models to enable rapid interventions in the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission’s gear selection process – exude an intense race-car feeling. An M Alcantara steering wheel in the same design and with the same functionality is available as an option for the first time. A heating function is available as an option for both steering wheel variants.

The M-specific cockpit design also includes a control panel on the centre console. Located here along with the gearshift lever / selector lever, the red Start/Stop button and the BMW iDrive Controller are controls including the Setup button and M Mode button. These can be used by the driver to configure their desired vehicle setup and activate cockpit display and driver assistance system functions tailored to the driving situation at hand.

High-quality, carefully crafted materials and M-specific design features in the interior create a modern premium ambience with sporting flair. The interior trim elements in the instrument panel, control panel and cup holder cover now come as standard in Dark Graphite matt. Options include interior trim elements in the Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite, M Carbon Fibre and new Fine Brushed Aluminium variants. M Carbon Fibre now additionally includes elements for the steering wheel and the gearshift paddles of the Competition models. The optional Sensatec instrument panel now has a further refined surface structure.

The standard M sport seats offer an array of electrically operated adjustment options to make it easier to find the perfect position behind the steering wheel. A memory function for the driver’s seat allows the driver to store their desired adjustment settings. Also shining the spotlight on the cabin’s commitment to progressive sporting appeal are the integral head restraints with illuminated model badging. Standard specification likewise includes seat heating for the driver and front passenger, while seat ventilation is available as an option. Available as alternatives to the standard Merino leather trim are Merino full-leather trim, BMW Individual Merino leather trim with extended features and BMW Individual Merino full-leather trim – each in a choice of four colours.

The optional, also fully electrically adjustable and heated M Carbon bucket seats provide an optimum, racing-car-like connection between driver and car. They fuse racing functionality with luxurious craftsmanship and excellent comfort over long distances. The use of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the seat surface and backrest elements, plus cut-outs in the side bolsters and below the head restraints enable a weight saving of 9.6 kilograms over the standard M sport seats.

BMW Curved Display and new BMW Operating System 8.5.

The new editions of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M3 Touring also welcome the latest generation of the display and control/operation system BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 into cockpits shaped by progressive sporting appeal. With the high-resolution BMW Curved Display angled towards the driver and upgraded BMW Personal Assistant, the interaction between driver and car is based squarely on operation using touch control and natural language. The fully digital screen grouping made up of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display shows M-specific content. This includes additional information on the vehicle’s status and sharpens the driver’s focus on the road ahead. Also on the options list is the BMW Head-Up Display, which projects information relevant to driving – including a multi-coloured rpm dial, Shift Lights and M View – onto the windscreen, again in an M-specific style.

The M-specific graphics and content on the information display and control display are now joined by a new way of operating the standard-fitted automatic climate control system. The temperature and ventilation settings as well as the seat heating and – if specified – steering wheel heating can now be controlled either by touch using a special menu option in the lower area of the control display or by voice command. This latest advance in the field of digital operation brings a further reduction in the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit and a new design for the instrument panel. New adjustment controls for the air vent grilles in the centre of the instrument panel and on the driver’s and front passenger side of the cockpit allow the airflow direction to be adjusted using rotating and tilting movements.

In addition to the footwells, the storage compartment in the front section of the centre console and the door openers, the standard ambient lighting now also encompasses contour lighting integrated into the trim around the central seam vents. Nine colours in multiples grades of brightness allow customers to adjust the effect to their personal preferences. The functionality of the interior lighting also includes an atmospheric Welcome and Goodbye Animation and light signals indicating an open door or incoming phone call.

As well as the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps, the standard-fitted BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes two USB ports for data transfer, a Wi-Fi interface and smartphone integration enabling the use of e.g. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Standard equipment for the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M3 Touring also features a HiFi speaker system with 10 speakers and a 205-watt amplifier. The optional telephony with wireless charging enables wireless charging of compatible smartphones.

Distinctive looks and higher-intensity performance with M Carbon exterior package, M Race Track package and BMW M Performance Parts.

An M Carbon exterior package specific to each of the new high-performance cars brings bespoke precision to their outward appeal. With inlays for the wide front air intakes and a rear diffuser with unique geometry for each model, plus exterior mirror caps and a rear spoiler made from CFRP for the BMW M3 Sedan, the M Carbon exterior package also brings fresh visual sharpness to the race-car character of the two models. The M Race Track package, which brings M Carbon ceramic brakes, M Carbon bucket seats for the driver and front passenger and Carbon Fibre interior trim elements, reduces vehicle weight by as much as 25 kilograms.

BMW M Performance Parts offer customers additional scope for tailoring the high-intensity driving experience and dynamic aura of the new high-performance sports cars to their personal tastes. The selection of model-specific retrofit options ranges from exterior components made from CFRP and M Performance forged wheels with centre lock to M Performance floor mats and M Performance steering wheel trim for customising the interior.

Munich. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is now on the road. The first vehicles were delivered to customers in Europe and Japan a few days ago. Now in its sixth generation, the sporty all-rounder in the premium segment of the upper mid-range vehicle segment is being launched for the first time as the all-electric BMW i5 Touring. Two models with purely electric drive and two with highly efficient four-cylinder diesel engines are available for the market launch. By summer 2024, the range of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and Sedan will be extended to include additional models with plug-in hybrid drive and an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine.

The Bavarian premium car manufacturer is systematically continuing the electrification of its model range with the BMW i5 Touring and the soon-to-be-available plug-in hybrid versions of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. The top model of the new series is the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring* with up to 442 kW/601 hp. At its side is the new BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring* with an output of up to 250 kW/340 hp and a range of up to 560 kilometres (348 miles) determined in the WLTP test cycle.

In addition, the BMW 520d Touring* and BMW 520d xDrive Touring* models, which are particularly popular in Europe, are now available. Their four-cylinder diesel engine is combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology and develops a maximum output of 145 kW/197 hp.

Plug-in hybrid drive and BMW xDrive for Sedan and Touring models.

Plug-in hybrid technology will be introduced in the new BMW 5 Series Touring in summer 2024. Two models will be available. The new BMW 530e Touring* transmits the power of its two engines to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. In the new BMW 530e xDrive Touring*, intelligent all-wheel drive ensures optimum traction, agility and driving stability in all road conditions. This drive technology combination will also be available in the BMW 5 Series Sedan from summer 2024. The new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan* will be the third model variant of the four-door model with plug-in hybrid system.

The drive system of the three new models consists of a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which together generate a system output of 220 kW/299 hp. The high-voltage battery provides a usable energy content of 19.4 kWh and enables an electric range of 83 to 95 kilometres (51 to 59 miles) for the new BMW 530e Touring, 82 to 89 kilometres (50 to 55 miles) for the new BMW 530e xDrive Touring and 82 to 93 kilometres (50 to 58 miles) for the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan.

In the new BMW 5 Series Touring, there is also no loss of transport capacity when choosing a plug-in hybrid model. Thanks to the space-saving arrangement of the high-voltage battery in the underbody of the vehicle, the length, width and height of the completely flat luggage compartment are the same as those of the models with combustion engine and all-electric drive. Luggage capacity is 570 litres with all seats occupied and can be increased to 1,700 litres if required.

Available from summer 2024: Six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the BMW 5 Series.

The range of engines available for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and Touring models will be extended in summer 2024 to include a straight six-cylinder diesel engine. The drive unit of the BMW 540d xDrive Sedan and BMW 540d xDrive Touring from the BMW Group's latest modular generation is combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the form of a crankshaft starter generator. Together, the combustion engine and the electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission generate a maximum output of 223 kW/303 hp and a maximum torque of 670 Nm (494 lb/ft).

Torque is distributed fully variably to all four wheels via the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The dynamic power delivery of the in-line six-cylinder diesel engine and the superior power transmission are reflected in the 5.2-second acceleration time from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph), which is the same for both the new BMW 540d xDrive Sedan* and the new BMW 540d xDrive Touring.

For the members of the World Car Awards expert jury, it was the standout new arrival among the field of luxury vehicles which celebrated their debuts in the world’s car markets over the past 12 months. The international panel of experts therefore handed the BMW 5 Series the crown of World Luxury Car 2024. The results were announced today at the start of the New York International Auto Show 2024 as part of a ceremony broadcast worldwide via streaming services.

The success of the BMW 5 Series was underpinned by assessments carried out during extensive test drives by the around 100 car journalists from 30 countries that made up the jury. These ratings were then recorded in detail by the World Car Awards organisers. The BMW 5 Series fended off competition from a field of 13 new luxury vehicles, winning over the jury not only with the majestic power delivery from its portfolio of electrified combustion engines as well as the electric drive system, but also with its high comfort levels over long-distance journeys and numerous digital innovations. “We are very pleased to receive this prestigious award. BMW 5 Series: Consistent electrification and digital innovations.

The BMW 5 Series displays its progressive character with its powertrain technology, its innovative digital services as well as an elegantly sporty design, generous levels of cabin space, optimised acoustic comfort and a progressive premium ambience for the interior. Advanced assistance systems like the motorway assistant and active Lane Change Assistant with eye confirmation emphasise the long-distance qualities of the BMW 5 Series. With the display and control/operation system BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended functionality all on board, the i5 is comprehensively set up for user-vehicle interaction via touch control and natural speech. When the car is stationary, BMW 5 Series occupants can explore the extensive video streaming offering on the control display and enjoy a new form of in-car gaming – e.g. to make use of the time when the high-voltage battery is charging.

As a fully integrated member of the new BMW 5 Series model range, the BMW i5 offers locally emission-free driving pleasure. The driving dynamics and efficiency of the BMW i5 have their roots in fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. This comprises highly integrated drive units and high-voltage batteries with extremely high energy density. In addition, the latest evolution of adaptive recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and cooling the interior, drive system and high-voltage battery help the car to achieve a range of up to 582 kilometres (362 miles) in the WLTP cycle, depending on the model and specification. The Combined Charging Unit of the BMW i5 enables AC charging at a rate of up to 22 kW and DC charging at up to 205 kW. This means the car’s range can be boosted by up to 156 kilometres (97 miles) within just 10 minutes when plugged into a fast-charging station.

The entire combustion engine portfolio has also been electrified. A flexibly designed drive architecture that was open to different technologies from the outset enables the new BMW 5 Series Sedan to be offered for the first time as an all-electric model, with plug-in hybrid systems and with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. The combustion engines from the new modular generation of BMW Group Efficient Dynamics engines all feature the latest version of 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

BMW wins title number nine in the World Car Awards.

The World Car Awards were created 20 years ago to stand alongside national and regional distinctions as an acknowledgement of outstanding innovations and new products in car markets worldwide. This year, the awards were presented in a total of five categories in addition to the overall prize.

Over the years, BMW has collected eight wins in the World Car Awards. One of the victors was the BMW 7 Series, which was crowned World Luxury Car in 2016 already. In 2018, the title of World Performance Car was presented to the BMW M5. This ninth title win for the Bavarian premium carmaker is the latest in a long line of distinctions amassed by the new BMW 5 Series over the past few months. For instance, the all-electric version alone adds to the trophy collection with a total of three „Car of the Year“ awards from Norway, Denmark and Italy.

Munich/Los Angeles. The BMW Group presents a fusion of art and innovation at the Frieze Los Angeles art fair in the form of the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA. The one-of-a-kind vehicle combines colour-change technology developed by BMW with the artistic language of South African artist Esther Mahlangu. The designer piece, with sections of attached film that can be electronically animated, embodies the latest development in colour-change technology for vehicle surfaces in cooperation with E Ink. The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA celebrates its world premiere at the fair opening on 29 February. The contemporary tribute recalls the BMW Art Car designed by Mahlangu in 1991. “The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA honours the history of the BMW brand and continues the story of our global cultural engagement in a unique way. It combines art and design through progressive technology. Here, technology itself becomes art,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design.

In 1991, Mahlangu designed the 12th BMW Art Car, based on a BMW 525i – becoming the first woman and first African artist to do so. “Her art inspired me years ago, back when the concept of colour change on a car was just an idea in my head,” says Stella Clarke, Research Engineer Open Innovations at the BMW Group. „Now, being able to realise this idea, and work with Esther Mahlangu, is absolutely surreal.” The 88-year-old artist’s signature colours and geometric patterns are perfect for bringing the innovative Flow technology to life in the BMW i5. The versatility of the electrophoretic colour changes makes the fully-electric sedan a dynamic work of art. “It is fascinating to me to see how modern technology can expand my art and make it accessible to a completely new audience,” says Mahlangu.

Mahlangu’s art meets cutting-edge technology.
In the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA, which is named after Mahlangu’s first son, sections of film that can be electronically animated are applied, with two strips each across the roof, bonnet and rear section, as well as the vehicle’s sides. Like an e-book reader, there are several million microcapsules in each E Ink film. The structure and arrangement of the colour particles they contain can be changed by applying an electric voltage. This allows the typical colours and patterns of Mahlangu’s art to be generated in constantly changing compositions.

The animations are also accompanied by an equally extraordinary sound, specially composed by Renzo Vitale, the BMW Group's Creative Director, Sound, for the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA. To combine the soundscape of the BMW brand with that of the South African Ndebele culture, Vitale used sequences from Mahlangu’s voice, as well as the sound of the feather brushes she used for painting. These were combined with sounds produced by the colour pencils employed in the BMW design studio and the acoustic signal heard as feedback when operating the BMW i5’s touch display. This created a sound mix that starts off softly at the beginning of each colour change and increases in intensity as the animation progresses.

To accurately recreate every detail of the complex ornamentation, the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA has been fitted with 1,349 sections of film, each of which can be individually controlled. The laser cutting process used to trim the film and the electronic control design were developed in partnership with E Ink. The adaptation of the technology for curved surfaces, as well as the programmed animations, are all BMW Group in-house developments.

Overall, colour-change technology is developing rapidly. The BMW iX Flow featuring E Ink presented in 2022 had the ability to switch from white to black at the push of a button. This was followed just one year later by the first multi-coloured implementation. The 240 sections of film applied to BMW i Vision Dee were able to display up to 32 colours. This latest phase of development now enables even more colours and patterns. At the same time, the sections of the film are more robust – which could make potential future series production easier. However, for the time being, the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA will remain one of a kind.

Tribute to a pioneering artist and her work.
As a globally respected artist, Esther Mahlangu is known for her Ndebele paintings, whose ornamentation originally symbolised major events or festive occasions. Mahlangu separated the designs from their original meaning and transferred them for the first time to canvas, carpets and everyday objects, thus preserving them for the future. The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA is now reinterpreting this artistic language.

In presenting this designer car at Frieze Los Angeles, BMW continues its long-standing cooperation with the renowned art fair. At the same time, the BMW Art Car that formed the basis for this tribute will also be on display in South Africa for the first time in over 30 years as part of the exhibition hosted by the Iziko Museums of South Africa and the BMW Group in Cape Town “Then I Knew I Was Good at Painting”: Esther Mahlangu. A Retrospective. The exhibition, which runs until 11 August 2024, honours the life’s work of one of South Africa’s most influential artists and cultural ambassadors.

In Los Angeles, BMW will once again be presenting Frieze Music in collaboration with Frieze. Since 2019, the joint initiative between the two partners has brought together a large group of musicians at the intersection of music and art. The event’s return to Los Angeles will be celebrated on 29 February with a live performance by Sudan Archives at the Hammer Museum.

Munich. Digital, dynamic and, for the first time, fully electric as a BMW i5. The new generation of the BMW 5 Series sets standards, including when it comes to vehicle safety. Independent institutes in Europe, the USA and Korea each gave the BMW 5 Series Sedan top marks. The testers were impressed by both the active assistance systems and passive safety.

5-star rating at Euro NCAP.

The independent safety experts from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) awarded the eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series Sedan the highest rating of five stars.

The extensive standard equipment with safety-relevant driver assistance systems makes a significant contribution to the 5-star rating. All driver assistance systems used in the new BMW 5 Series are among the best on the market and impressed Euro NCAP safety experts with their range of functions and reliable responses.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan also scored points in the area of passive safety with its innovative integrated safety concept, which was constantly being further developed by BMW. In addition to highly resilient support structures and precisely designed deformation paths, a model-specific combination of precisely coordinated restraint systems is used.

The Euro NCAP assessments are a Europe-wide recognized standard for accident safety and are constantly being further developed. An award with the highest rating of five stars goes exclusively to vehicles that have excellent impact protection and are also well equipped with comprehensive and practical technology to prevent accidents.

TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the USA.

The US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave the best rating with a rating as TOP SAFETY PICK+. The standard assistance system for preventing frontal accidents was particularly convincing here, which achieved excellent ratings in both day and night tests. In combination with the lighting system, the “plus” in the TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating was decisive. It is the highest award that this institute awards.

In various collision tests, the integrated safety concept of the new BMW 5 Series also proved to guarantee that comprehensive protection against injuries is always guaranteed regardless of the size and sitting position of the occupants.

The test procedure of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is the standard for the comprehensive safety assessment of new vehicles on the American market, which is important for the BMW 5 Series, and an essential basis for decisions by fleet customers in the USA. 

“Safest Car of the Year” at KNCAP in South Korea

In the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Transport awarded the BMW i5 the “Safest Car of the Year” award. Only the vehicle that scores the highest number of KNCAP points in the respective year receives this award. At the official presentation of the award in Korea, Dominik Schuster, Head of Vehicle Safety at the BMW Group, emphasized the importance of this award: “Top KNCAP ratings underline our safety-focused development process and prove the BMW Group's commitment to continuous improvement of vehicle safety.”

The independent testers were particularly impressed by the performance of passive safety. They saw 99.5% of these met. In Korea full points were still scored for emergency braking systems to protect pedestrians and cyclists. Some driver assistance systems also received the maximum rating.

The title “Safest Car of the Year” impressively demonstrates the BMW Group's pioneering role in one of the world's most important individual markets for the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Med 23. in 27. oktobrom 2023 je v Istri potekala predstavitev novega BMW serije 5 in BMW i5 – kot nov simbol trajnostne premium mobilnosti v segmentu vozil višjega srednjega razreda in popolnoma električnega BMW i7 M70 xDrive, ki s 660 konjskih moči in 1100 Nm navora velja za najzmogljivejši električni model v celotnem portfelju BMW Group. Predstavitve se je udeležilo več kot 80 novinarjev in vplivnežev iz Avstrije, Bolgarije, Cipra, Češke, Grčije, Hrvaške, Madžarske, Malte, Nizozemske, Poljske, Romunije, Slovenije in Slovaške.  Ker BMW Group svojo preobrazbo oblikuje s ključnimi elementi elektrifikacije, digitalizacije in krožnega gospodarstva, smo prav tako predstavili strategijo trajnosti v celotnem življenjskem ciklu avtomobila.

Munich. Following the initial sales launch in South Korea, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the first BMW i5 Sedan are now coming to dealers in numerous other markets. In Germany, the first vehicles will be delivered to customers from 21 October 2023. The market launch also begins in the other European countries on the same day. One week later, on 28 October 2023, the new edition of the BMW 5 Series will make its road debut in the USA. The other global markets will follow on 25 November 2023.

The eighth generation of the world's most successful business sedan will also be offered for the first time as an all-electric BMW i5. Even before sales have begun, incoming orders show that this model variant in particular is meeting with high customer demand and will thus further accelerate the ramp-up of electric mobility pushed by BMW. Right from the start, customers can choose from two variants of the BMW i5. The new BMW i5 eDrive40 Sedan (power consumption combined: 18.9 - 15.9 kWh/100 km according to WLTP) features an output of up to 250 kW/340 hp and a range of 498 to 582 kilometres determined in the WLTP test cycle. The top model of the entire series is the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Sedan with up to 442 kW/601 hp (power consumption combined: 20.6 – 18.2 kWh/100 km according to WLTP).

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan emphasises its progressive character not only with the two all-electric model variants, but also with innovative digital services for in-car gaming, audio and video streaming, among other things, as well as with particularly high-grade driver assistance systems. The highlight in the field of systems for automated driving and parking is the Highway Assistant, which now also enables drivers in Germany to take their hands off the steering wheel for a longer period of time at speeds of up to 130 km/h and place them in a comfortable position, provided they continue to keep a close eye on the traffic situation and are able to take over from the system again at any time if necessary.

The intensive experience of semi-automated driving is complemented by the Automatic Lane Change. With this globally unique function, a glance in the exterior mirror is enough to trigger a lane change, which is then carried out automatically by the system.

The new generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring will celebrate its world premiere in spring 2024. The second body variant of the new BMW 5 Series will be available with the same range of drives as the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. This means that the new BMW 5 Series Touring is the first premium car of its kind to be offered with highly efficient combustion engines including 48-volt mild hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid systems and, for the first time, an all-electric drive. The unique combination of sporty elegance, modern functionality and locally emission-free driving pleasure is developed specifically for the automotive markets in Europe as well as in Japan and Taiwan.

Munich. The new features set to enhance the BMW model line-up from autumn 2023 centre on the latest advances in terms of digitalisation. The new BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will both be equipped with the upgraded BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9 from November 2023. The BMW Digital Premium offering, with its highly customisable selection of online-based services, is also being introduced in both model series at the same time. Plus, extra digital services will be made available for a large number of current models via Remote Software Upgrade. Meanwhile, an extended range of functions will also add to the appeal of the My BMW App.

When it comes to automated driving systems, the highlight is without doubt the new Highway Assistant, which is also due to become available for models in the BMW 7 Series range from March 2024 following its premiere in the new 5 Series Sedan. Autumn 2023 will also bring additions to the choice of exterior colours and light-alloy wheels for selected models.

More intuitive and easier to use than ever: new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect.

From November 2023, the upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect will be fitted as standard in all model variants of the new BMW X1, the all-electric BMW iX1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, enabling numerous vehicle functions to be operated even more intuitively and easily. The latest incarnation of the display and control/operation system is based on BMW Operating System 9 and is packaged together with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The new BMW iDrive features a redesigned home screen and the QuickSelect rapid-access tech, bringing an improved menu structure that takes its cue from consumer electronics devices. The new home screen displays the navigation system’s map view or other individually configurable graphics in the control display at all times. On the same level, function icons appear in a vertical arrangement on the driver’s side of the display. Drivers can switch between icons with a vertical swipe of the finger. The QuickSelect feature allows the function selected in this way to be activated directly without having to enter a submenu.

BMW Operating System 9 was developed in-house by the BMW Group and is based on an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software stack for the first time. It provides the basis for a broader offering of digital content that serves information and entertainment, shorter function update cycles and improved accessibility to a host of specific online services.

New BMW Digital Premium offering: customised selection of gaming, video & music streaming and other online services.

The new BMW Digital Premium offering will be brought out in Germany in November 2023 alongside the introduction of BMW Operating System 9. It will be available as an option for BMW X1, BMW iX1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer models and can be ordered from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, which has now been expanded with the addition of further third-party apps. This means customers can enjoy in-car use of all the apps available in their country, e.g. for video and music streaming, news or gaming, as part of a package. In addition to this, BMW Digital Premium also includes enhanced navigation functions along with added customisation options thanks to extra My Modes, for instance.

As with all other ConnectedDrive Upgrades, BMW Digital Premium can be obtained from the ConnectedDrive Store either on the website, in the My BMW App or directly in the car. And, from November 2023, it will be even easier for customers to add ConnectedDrive Upgrades, as it will then be possible to not just select them directly from their vehicle, but to pay for them at the same time. In other words, instead of being redirected to the app or internet to complete their order, customers will be able to carry out the entire process, including payment, from the comfort of their car.

This new offering is designed to allow customers to put together a customised selection of digital services from the growing variety on offer – one that is perfectly suited to their personal requirements. BMW Digital Premium is available in Germany, for example, for €9.98 a month or from mid-2024 (provisionally) for an annual fee of €99 (both including VAT). The package also covers data usage for all digital services and the apps available from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, including music and video streaming. Customers can take advantage of a free three-month trial period that will allow them to sample all the BMW Digital Premium services and content.

A new form of in-car gaming unique in the automotive sector is one of the highlights of BMW Digital Premium. BMW is presenting a wide selection of casual games that use a smartphone as the controller in collaboration with the AirConsole gaming platform. The games can be played in either solo or multiplayer mode when the vehicle is stationary as a way of passing the time while e.g. waiting for the high-voltage battery in the BMW iX1 or the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer plug-in hybrid models to recharge. About ten titles will initially be available to play, including racing, sport, quiz and skill games, and the range will continue to grow.

Besides audio streaming, BMW Digital Premium also lets the occupants enjoy a wide variety of video streaming services (powered by Xperi TiVo) on the control display while the car is stationary. This offers customers access to an ever-growing selection of aggregated video content, such as news and live or on-demand streaming of movies and series, for instance, along with country-specific content. Available with BMW Digital Premium in the USA, UK, South Korea, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, the Video App will feature, among other things, the Pluto, Bloomberg Television, Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera and TED portals. In Germany, the package will additionally include the tagesschau news service app as well as the popular streaming service JOYN. Country-specific content will also be offered from the outset in Italy and the USA. The portfolio of video streaming platforms will keep evolving and will be gradually rolled out to other countries too.

Enhanced navigation functions, additional My Modes.

One of the key benefits of BMW Digital Premium is the enhanced functionality of the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. For example, real-time traffic information (RTTI) with colour coding shows how freely traffic is flowing across the entire map area, even if route guidance is not activated. Other functions include 3D visualisation of buildings and surrounding elements in the map view and extended information on parking facilities. The driver is also proactively notified of the current traffic situation and estimated time of arrival when setting out to destinations they drive to regularly. If necessary, the system will even propose an alternative route. Turn-off instructions and lane recommendations are shown in realistic form in both the information display and the optional BMW Head-Up Display.

In Germany and other European countries, BMW Digital Premium offers the additional benefit of allowing drivers to pay parking fees directly from their vehicle in parking zones that support this payment method. And drivers in Germany also have the option of settling fuel bills digitally from their car after refuelling at participating filling stations. In both cases, payment is made using a credit card that is first registered with the partner company Parkopedia via the My BMW App.

In addition, BMW Digital Premium adds Expressive Mode, Relax Mode and Digital Art Mode to the choice of My Modes, opening up still greater scope for customising the driving experience. And it also brings new variants for both the Welcome Light sequence and the graphics visualising the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. 

Current Remote Software Upgrades for enhanced driving pleasure.

The Remote Software Upgrades bring existing digital functions right up to date. At the same time, new features and improvements to quality can also be imported into the car over the air. The latest in-car gaming and video-streaming services for BMW models will be made available in this way for the majority of vehicles with BMW Operating System 8.5 in autumn 2023.

Customers also receive notification of the Remote Software Upgrades in the My BMW App. Another option is for upgrades to be downloaded via the My BMW App and transferred to the vehicle before initiating the installation process there.

The My BMW App for smartphones provides customers with a direct link to their car and, depending on the vehicle configuration and country, offers them the benefit of numerous functions designed to make day-to-day mobility even more straightforward. This includes information transferred to the user’s smartphone on their vehicle’s status, servicing requirements, charging status and range, as well as remote access to functions for vehicle locating, locking and unlocking the doors, climate control and monitoring the car’s immediate vicinity. Charging-optimised routes can also be planned via the My BMW App and destination addresses sent from a smartphone to the vehicle’s navigation system. From autumn 2023, it will also be possible to enter mid-journey stops as part of the process.

And from March 2024, customers with compatible Android smartphones will also be able to use the My BMW App to operate the Remote Control Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant functions available with the optional Parking Assistant Professional and BMW Digital Key Plus. The My BMW App will also indicate the status of the alarm system on suitably equipped vehicles and show how it can be fully or partially activated.

New Highway Assistant also coming soon for the BMW 7 Series.

BMW has become the first carmaker to gain approval from Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority for semi-automated driving at speeds up to 130 km/h (81 mph). As a result, the BMW Highway Assistant already available in the USA and Canada is now set to become an extremely innovative component of the optional Driving Assistant Professional package in Germany too. The new function lets the driver take their hands off the steering wheel and put them in a comfortable position while driving. First launched in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, it will also become available to use in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan from spring 2024.

The BMW Highway Assistant can operate on multi-lane roads with structurally separated carriageways, with the function’s availability indicated to the driver in the information display. On suitably designated stretches of road, the driver is able to take their hands off the steering wheel for longer periods and position them comfortably, provided they continue to pay attention to what is happening on the road and are able to take over the steering again at any time. The Active Lane Change Assistant with eye confirmation included as part of the new BMW Highway Assistant adds another layer to the automated driving experience. As soon as the traffic situation permits, it is capable of performing the necessary steering movements for an overtaking manoeuvre, for example, and adjusting the vehicle’s speed as required. Plus, for the first time, the driver is able to initiate a lane change suggested by this system by simply looking in the exterior mirror to confirm it.

Additional exterior colour for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, new 21-inch light-alloy wheels for the 7 Series.

A new shade is already being added to the selection of exterior colours for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, just a short time after its launch. The Fire Red metallic paint finish will be made available for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Sedan (electric power consumption combined: 20.6 – 18.2 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle) from November 2023, as well as for all other model variants of the new business sedan specified with the M Sport package.

A further highly exclusive design of light-alloy wheel will be added to the range of optional extras for the BMW 7 Series from November 2023. At the same time, 21-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in multi-spoke design will also be available for all model variants of the luxury sedan. They have a bi-colour finish and are fitted with mixed-size tyres.

All of the stated model variants, equipment features, technical data and fuel/electric power consumption and emissions figures relate to the offering in the German market.

The latest new models with electrified powertrains from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands, plus Vision Vehicles and concepts for individual mobility in tomorrow’s world all serve to underline the company’s innovative strength in these fields. As the dawn of a new era in personal mobility approaches, the BMW Group is set to unveil its latest highlight, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which brings together the Group’s development expertise in the three crucial disciplines for the future of mobility.

The IAA Mobility show is being staged in Munich for the second time. For the BMW Group and its brands, this provides an excellent opportunity to enter into constructive dialogue on the future of individual mobility with local people, as well as with visitors to the show from outside Munich and other stakeholders. The IAA Mobility Summit at the exhibition centre and the BMW Group’s Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich will be the main arenas where BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad present their new products on 5 – 10 September 2023. Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public, ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5 – 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA Mobility 2023. The current model portfolios of the BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands are presented here, along with the latest BMW and MINI Lifestyle collections. World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range. Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission together with its power electronics. The highly integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km [256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 20.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 – 470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 – 18.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment, which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models – meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time, maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment, as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation. Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle, increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with various target groups around the world. This allows selected test groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air, through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of 180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential – provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at all times.

The new, eighth model generation of the world's most successful business sedan also highlights its dynamic performance character with its athletic proportions. The BMW M Performance Parts, which will be available in time for the market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the all-electric BMW i5 in October 2023, specifically enhance its sporty appearance. The aerodynamic, interior and chassis parts range offers many options for high-performance customizing.

Perfectly coordinated: The M Performance Carbon parts.

The high-quality BMW M Performance aerodynamic and exterior components make the sporty, elegant business sedan look even more athletic. They have been specially developed for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5 with
M Sports Package or M Sports Package Pro and suit the geometry and design of the vehicle perfectly. Original BMW M Performance aerodynamic and exterior parts are always tested and approved according to the strict BMW Group quality guidelines. As they have already been homologated with the complete vehicle, it is not necessary to register them with the regulatory authorities.

All Carbon components are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), sealed with clear lacquer to achieve a high-quality finish, and give the 5 Series models a sharp and sporty look from all angles. At the front and rear of the body, the four-part M Performance Carbon front attachment as well as the M Performance Carbon Pro rear spoiler and the three-part M Performance rear diffuser made of aramid fiber ensure a distinctive, racing-oriented look. A primed M Performance rear spoiler is also available as an option.

In addition to the M Performance Carbon side skirt attachments, which give the profile of the vehicle even more visual length and depth, the new M Performance accent stripes in Frozen Black emphasise the dynamically flowing lines of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5. The digitally printed accent stripes are in matt anthracite and feature the M Performance lettering.
The M Performance side skirt films, which consist of a striking curved line in matt grey, are also new to the range and highlight the vehicle’s profile even further. In addition, the M Performance velours floor mats with their synthetic leather edging and decorative stitching in contrasting colours also add a sporty touch to the footwell. The two front mats of the four-piece set also feature embroidered M Performance lettering on the fabric insert and a flag in the hallmark M colours. The M Performance light alloy wheels available for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the all-electric BMW i5 are ideally suited to a sporty driving style and make for a highly distinctive look. The range for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5 includes 19 and 21-inch wheel sets. The summer wheel with tyre set with 21-inch M Performance Cross-spoke light alloy wheels is available for all drive types in either M Bicolor Jet Black gloss finish or M Frozen Midnight Grey.

For all model variants the 19-inch M Performance light alloy wheels in Y-Spoke design in matt black are also available as a summer wheel with tyre set. With the exception of the BMW i5 M60 xDrive, the corresponding winter wheel with tyre set, which is also suitable for snow chains (power consumption combined: 20.6 - 18.2 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km according to WLTP) is available for all drive variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. The M Performance 20-inch brake system delivers the deceleration power required for a sporty driving style. Prvič pri BMW je v osnovno različico vključena popolnoma veganska notranja oprema. 
Novi BMW serije 5 Limuzina je serijsko opremljen s črnimi sedeži Veganza z lastnostmi usnja. Po želji je na voljo z okrasno perforacijo in v treh drugih barvah. Veganski površinski material je prvič uporabljen tudi za volan. Paket M Sport vključuje sedežne površine Veganza/Alcantara. Opcijsko Usnjeno oblazinjenje BMW Individual Merino je na voljo v več dvobarvnih različicah. 

Novi športni sedeži so serijski, udobni sedeži so na voljo kot dodatna oprema. 
Standardna oprema vključuje tudi samodejno klimatsko napravo s skoraj nevidnimi zračniki, avdiosistem s šestimi zvočniki in štirimi priključki USB-C. Kot dodatna oprema so med drugim na voljo tudi: fiksna panoramska steklena streha z izjemno veliko vidno površino, sistem Travel & Comfort, sistem Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System in BMW IconicSounds Electric za BMW i5. 

Zmogljivost avtomobila BMW i5 M60 xDrive (kombinirana poraba energije po WLTP: 20.6–18,2 kWh/100 km (62 mph); predhodni podatki) kot najboljši model v seriji. Dve visoko integrirani pogonski enoti na sprednji in zadnji osi, sistemska moč: 442 kW/601 KM, sistemski navor: 795 Nm (549 Ib-ft) v načinu My Sport in 820 Nm (605 Ib-ft), ko je aktivirana funkcija M Sport Boost ali M Launch Control. Pospešek od 0 do 100 km/h v 3,8 sekunde, največja hitrost 230 km/h. Doseg: 455–516 km (282–320 milj) po WLTP. Na voljo tudi ob začetku prodaje na trgu: BMW i5 eDrive40 (kombinirana poraba energije po WLTP: 19.5–15,9 kWh/ 100 km (62 milj); predhodni podatki) kot druga povsem električna različica modela z 250 kW/340 KM in največjim navorom 430 Nm (295 Ib-ft) s funkcijo Sport Boost ali Launch Control. Pospešek od 0 do 100 km/h v 6,0 sekunde, največja hitrost 193 km/h. Doseg: 477–582 km (296–362 milj) po WLTP.

Kombinirana polnilna enota BMW i5 omogoča serijsko polnjenje z izmeničnim tokom z močjo do 11 kW, po želji pa tudi do 22 kW. Polnjenje z enosmernim tokom z močjo do 205 kW omogoča povečanje dosega do 156 kilometrov v 10 minutah. Nova funkcija MAX RANGE poveča doseg do 25 odstotkov, tako da omeji moč in hitrost ter izklopi funkcije udobja.

Razširjena ponudba izdelkov BMW Charging.
Premiera za povezano domače polnjenje z BMW i5 in priključnimi hibridnimi modeli. Paket, ki ga ponujamo skupaj s strateškim partnerjem za sodelovanje E.ON, ustvarja pogoje za šolarsko in obremenitveno optimizirano polnjenje (faza 1), v nadaljnji fazi širitve pa za stroškovno optimizirano polnjenje na podlagi dinamičnega sporazuma o tarifi za električno energijo (faza 2, od leta 2024). Povezano domače polnjenje je tudi osnova za povezovanje z energetskim trgom preko dvosmernega polnjenja v prihodnjih generacijah vozil.

BMW i5 je prvo vozilo, ki lahko uporablja funkcijo Plug & Charge.
Na javnih polnilnih postajah je mogoča samodejna avtentikacija in shranjevanje do petih posameznih pogodb z možnostjo polnjenja. Več športnosti in večja učinkovitost zaradi bencinskih in dizelskih motorjev nove modularne generacije BMW Group Efficient Dynamics z 48-voltno milo hibridno tehnologijo. Ponudba bo na voljo na določenih trgih.

Modeli z motorjem z notranjim izgorevanjem so serijsko opremljeni novim 8-stopenjskim športnim menjalnikom Steptronic, ki vključuje prestavne ročice na volanu in Sport Boost v kombinaciji s paketom M Sport: Dolg kabel na levi prestavni ročici aktivira največjo pogonsko moč za izjemno dinamičen odziv pri pospeševanju. 

Obsežno izboljšana tehnologija podvozja, prilagojena posameznim modelom. Neposredno nadzorovano omejevanje zdrsa koles in športni volan s spremenljivim krmilnim razmerjem sta zdaj serijska. Napredno integralno aktivno krmiljenje je na voljo kot del opcijske opreme Adaptive Suspension Professional. Na voljo tudi kot dodatna oprema. M-športno vzmetenje s čvrstejšim vzmetenjem, nastavitvami blažilnikov in stabilizatorjev ter nastavitvami vzmetenja. Posebna oprema Adaptive Suspension Professional (serijsko pri BMW i5 M60 xDrive) z elektronsko nadzorovanimi blažilniki in novim upravljanjem bočne dinamike. Napredno krmilna logika v enaki meri povečuje dinamično zmogljivost in udobje vožnje. Prilagodljivo M-podvozje Professional tudi z aktivno stabilizacijo vloge.

18-palčna kolesa iz lahke zlitine so standardna oprema.  
BMW i5 in priključni hibridni modeli z 19-palčnimi platišči iz lahke litine kot standardno opremo. Po želji so na voljo do 21-palčna platišča iz lahke zlitine, športne pnevmatike in športni zavorni sistem. 

Bistveno razširjena ponudba sistemov za samodejno vožnjo in parkiranje. 
Pomočnik za vožnjo po avtocesti, ki je na voljo v ZDA in Kanadi ter prvič v Nemčiji, omogoča nadzor razdalje in krmiljenje pri hitrostih do 130 km/h (85 mph). Vozniki lahko udobno namestijo roke in se posvetijo spremljanju prometnih razmer. Prvič na svetu v novem BMW serije 5 Sedan: Aktivni pomočnik za menjavo voznega pasu z aktiviranjem z očmi. Opcijski parkirni pomočnik Professional omogoča vozniku nadzor nad parkiranjem vozila zunaj vozila. Manevre, dolge do 200 metrov, lahko upravljate s pametnim telefonom preko aplikacije My BMW.

Napredni BMW iDrive s funkcijo "QuickSelect" in BMW Operating System 8.5.

Vozniki in potniki lahko igrajo tako imenovane priložnostne igre, ko vozilo miruje, na primer za premostitev časa med polnjenjem visokonapetostne baterije vozila BMW i5. Na voljo je tudi pretakanje videoposnetkov na nadzornem zaslonu s storitvijo YouTube in aplikacijo Bundesliga v avtomobilu.

Glede na stopnjo opreme novi BMW serije 5 Limuzina ponuja My MODES PERSONAL, SPORT, EFFICIENT, RELAX, EXPRESSIVE in DIGITAL ART. Standardni BMW Live Cockpit Plus z navigacijskim sistemom BMW Maps v oblaku. Vodenje po poti, optimizirano za polnjenje, za BMW i5 je bilo še izboljšano. Opcijski BMW Live Cockpit Professional vključuje tudi BMW Head-Up Display in razširjeni pogled na nadzornem zaslonu ali instrumentni plošči. BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant z razširjenimi funkcijami. Optimizirana vizualizacija in prekrivanje besedila na nadzornem zaslonu krepita dialog med voznikom in vozilom.

Optimizirana povezljivost in kakovost telefonije z dvema standardnima mobilnima radijskima antenama 5G, po želji pa tudi s štirimi. 
Osebno eSIM lahko aktivirate v vozilu. V izbranih državah BMW ID omogoča plačilo parkirnine samodejno iz vozila. BMW Proactive Care kot nova platforma za komunikacijo s strankami. Glede na razmere se predlagajo ustrezne storitve ali ponudbe za pomoč, ki se nato izvedejo po ustreznem kanalu, odvisno od nujnosti. 

Notranja kamera omogoča snemanje in prenos fotografij in videoposnetkov notranjosti na pametni telefon stranke. Integracija pametnih telefonov z Apple CarPlay® in Android Auto™. Oddaljene nadgradnje programske opreme in trgovina BMW ConnectedDrive Store za integracijo novih in izboljšanih funkcij vozila.

Extension of the BMW 5 Series to include five plug-in hybrid models.
With an increase from two to five models featuring innovative plug-in hybrid drive by November 2020, the new BMW 5 Series offers the largest range of PHEVs within one BMW Group model series.

The latest generation of BMW eDrive technology in conjunction with a four-cylinder petrol engine powers the BMW 530e plug-in hybrid models. Top of the range model: The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan.
The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.1 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.3 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 49 g/km)* features a synchronous electric motor delivering a maximum power output of 80 kW/109 hp, which is combined with an efficient straight six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and 210 kW/286 hp, together generating an overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp. Power is distributed as required to all four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive. Maximum system torque is 600 Nm and top speed is reached at 250 km/h, whilst a speed of 140 km/h is possible in purely electric operation. From a standstill, the new BMW 545e xDrive accelerates to a speed of 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds*. Thus, the BMW 545e xDrive clearly excels as the most dynamic of all BMW six-cylinder plug-in hybrids.

Thanks to intelligently controlled interaction between both drive systems, the new BMW 545e xDrive combines the best of two worlds. It facilitates not only purely electric driving in urban traffic and efficient commuting between home and the workplace, but also excels through dynamic performance and comfortable long-distance travel. With a purely electric range of 54–57 kilometres* and an average fuel consumption of 2.4–2.1 litres/100 km*, the new BMW 545e xDrive combines brand-typical driving dynamics and a high level of long-distance ride comfort with extremely efficient use of resources.

The latest plug-in hybrid model of the BMW 5 Series is fitted with a 400V lithium-ion battery which is positioned under the rear seat in order to save space. With a luggage volume of 410 litres, the transport capacity of the BMW 545e xDrive is only slightly smaller than of those model variants which are fitted with a conventional engine.

Different driving modes for maximum efficiency in accordance with the relevant driving style and situation.
In order to make optimum use of the combination of the straight six-cylinder engine featuring ultra-smooth running characteristics and eDrive technology in all driving situations, the BMW 545e xDrive supports the driver in numerous ways in terms of energy management. Various driving modes, some of which can be individualised in their operation, are simply selected by pressing the corresponding button on the centre console.

The HYBRID mode is the default setting, which ensures a balanced set-up and an intelligent interaction between combustion engine and electric motor. It is also possible to select ELECTRIC mode as the standard setting via the iDrive menu. In HYBRID mode, the electric motor is predominantly used. The combustion engine only kicks in at higher speeds or under intensive load conditions. Since the system is linked to the navigation system, the interaction between combustion engine and electric motor can be adapted more precisely to the route profile, topography and other driving situations in an anticipatory manner. The electric range is increased by recuperation in overrun and braking phases. The energy supply saved in this way can then be used specifically for locally emission-free driving through urban areas and the arrival at the defined destination.

By pressing the HYBRID button twice, an efficiency-optimised version of this operating mode (HYBRID ECO PRO) is activated.
The coasting function on the overrun, among other things, contributes to a further reduction in consumption. The navigation and sensor data-supported control system also optimises the effectiveness of braking energy recovery. When approaching a junction or a vehicle driving ahead, for example, infinitely adaptive recuperation can be put to particularly intensive use for the purpose of deceleration.

In SPORT mode, the electric motor supports the straight six-cylinder petrol engine when the overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp is fully needed. The set-up is designed for dynamic performance, and the gearshift program is sporty.

The ELECTRIC mode, on the other hand, enables locally purely emission-free driving up to 57 kilometres* and up to 140 km/h.

  Special sounds for a special driving experience.
The new “ready to drive sound” produced by the BMW 545e xDrive is the result of the collaboration with composer Hans Zimmer and is designed to trigger joyful anticipation of the electric drive when the driver enters the vehicle and presses the Start/Stop button.

A distinctive sound created especially for electrified BMW models is used for the purpose of acoustic pedestrian protection, emitted via a speaker system. The sound design in the low speed range of up to 30 km/h radiates a vibrant acoustic presence, though without impairing the acoustic comfort of vehicle occupants.

Likewise, via the vehicle audio system, “Active Sound Design” provides for an authentic and, in the SPORT mode of the Driving Experience Control Switch, for a particularly intense and pronounced sound.

Electric mobility meets digitalisation: Digital services for the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 5 Series.
The BMW Group also offers innovative digital services that actively contribute towards increasing the attractiveness of electric driving even further.  

The BMW eDrive Zone service facilitates the automatic switching over of the drive system to purely electric mode when entering an urban low-emission zone and similar inner-city areas. In addition, local emission-free driving with a BMW plug-in hybrid model is rewarded through the globally unique loyalty programme BMW Points.

Apart from filling stations, the navigation system also displays public charging points. When selecting a charging station, the driver is also provided with a forecast on its occupation status as well as recommendations for nearby restaurants or cafés. Moreover, BMW enables BMW Charging customers to reserve an enabled charging station for a limited period of time.

Furthermore, other products from BMW Charging also offer the possibility of comfortable charging at home and when out and about. These also comprise various versions of the Wallbox, including installation service, individual offers for the purchase of electricity and access to the world’s largest network of public charging stations comprising more than 155,000 charging points in Europe alone.  

Preconditioning of the interior by means of auxiliary heating and air conditioning ensures optimised comfort during any season. If the preconditioning system is activated during the charging process after defining a specific departure time, the system also guarantees the full electric range in drive mode. The system is controlled either from inside the vehicle or conveniently via the My BMW app.

BMW 530e iPerformance je športna limuzina, ki nudi dinamično vozno doživetje, značilno za blagovno znamko, skupaj z možnostjo električne vožnje brez lokalnih emisij. Njegova povprečna poraba goriva 1,9 l/100 km in ustreza emisijam CO2 le 44 g/km*. BMW 530e iPerformance je najinovativnejši model v svojem razredu in nudi širok spekter asistenčnih sistemov za voznika BMW serije 5 – v vseh načinih vožnje, tudi v eDrive. Te sisteme nadgrajujejo vse razpoložljive funkcije za povečanje udobja in odlične reference vožnje na dolge razdalje, vključno s prtljažnikom, ki lahko sprejme veliko prtljage. Najsodobnejši elektromotor sistema BMW eDrive ima največjo moč 83 kW/113 KM in razvije največji navor 250 Nm, medtem ko 2,0-litrski štirivaljni motor z notranjim zgorevanjem proizvede 135 kW/184 KM moči in 320 Nm navora. Kombinacija motorja in elektromotorja zadrži emisije CO2 modela BMW 530e iPerformance na le 44 g/km. Skupna sistemska moč 185 kW/252 KM in kombiniran največji navor 420 Nm pospešita BMW 530e iPerformance od 0 do 100 km/h v 6,2 sekunde in mu omogočata, da doseže največjo hitrost 235 km/h. BMW 530e iPerformance ima v praksi doseg do 650 kilometrov, medtem ko lahko izključno na elektriko prevozi razdalje do 50 kilometrov pri največji hitrosti 140 km/h. Elektromotor in motor z notranjim zgorevanjem usmerita moč na zadnji kolesi limuzine prek standardnega 8-stopenjskega menjalnika Steptronic. Ker je elektromotor nameščen pred menjalnikom, se lahko njegova prestavna razmerja uporabljajo tudi v povsem električnem režimu vožnje. S tem se odpravlja potreba za pretvornikom vrtilnega momenta, kar hkrati pomeni kompenziranje preobilne mase dodatne pogonske enote.

Edinstveni inovaciji za polnjenje visokonapetostne baterije: BMW Digital  Charging Service in BMW Wireless Charging.

Visokonapetostna baterija, ki vključuje litij-ionske celice s kapaciteto 9,2 kWh, je nameščena na mestu z varčno izrabo prostora pod zadnjim sedežem in obsega učinkovito hlajenje hladila z visoko integriranim nizkotemperaturnim obtokom. Zahvaljujoč dobro premišljeni namestitvi nudi BMW 530e iPerformance 410 litrov prtljažne prostornine in ravno dno v prtljažniku. S svojo inovacijo BMW Digital Charging Service je BMW prvi avtomobilski proizvajalec na svetu, ki nudi proaktivno, udobno in stroškovno učinkovito polnjenje, izpopolnjeno za uporabo zelene energije. Postopek polnjenja se upravlja ob vsaki priložnosti, tako da ima vozilo ob določenem času odhoda vedno na voljo polno kapaciteto baterije – po želji pa se lahko predhodno nastavi tudi temperatura v notranjosti.

BMW Digital Charging Service temelji na dveh glavnih funkcijah: optimizacija polnjenja baterije v smislu cene elektrike in uporabe sončne energije. Z optimalnim polnjenjem po ugodni tarifi, storitev prilagodi načrt polnjenja vozila po tarifi električne energije uporabnika, tako da se postopek izvaja s čim nižjimi stroški elektrike. Če ima stranka doma polnilno postajo BMW Wallbox Connect, se lahko proizvedena sončna energija prek domačega solarnega sistema prednostno uporablja za polnjenje vozila. Izhodni podatki sistema in zadnja vremenska napoved se uporabijo, da se predvidi razpoložljiva količina lokalno proizvedene sončne energije. Ob namestitvi potrebne merilne opreme imajo uporabniki tudi informacijo, kolikšen delež sončne energije ni bil uporabljen za gospodinjske odjemalce v času proizvodnje in se lahko zato preusmeri za zagotavljanje mobilnosti, ki je skoraj brez emisij. S tem se lahko vozila s popolnoma ali delno električnimi pogonskimi enotami čim učinkoviteje vključijo v domače okolje in individualno električno omrežje stranke.

Storitev BMW Wireless Charging za visokonapetostno baterijo bo za BMW 530e iPerformance na voljo v ponudbi dodatne opreme od leta 2018. Ta tehnologija omogoča prenos energije brez uporabe kabelske napeljave. V obliki prototipa, ki ga je predstavil BMW, je sistem sestavljen iz osnovne plošče z integrirano glavno tuljavo, ki se lahko namesti npr. v garaži, pa tudi na odprtem prostoru, ter sekundarne tuljave, vgrajene na spodnji strani vozila. Med tuljavama se ustvari izmenično magnetno polje, s pomočjo katerega se prenaša elektrika brez kabla ali stika z močjo do 3,2 kW. Ta oblika oskrbe visokonapetostne baterije z električnim tokom je zelo udobna za stranke, medtem ko se lahko prazna baterija napolni v pribl. treh urah in pol.

Diskretno vizualno razlikovanje zunaj in znotraj.
Vrsta nevsiljivih vizualnih poudarkov razkriva znake visokotehnološke pogonske tehnologije pod sprednjim pokrovom novega BMW 530e iPerformance. Modre prečke ledvičke, modri pokrovi kolesnih pest, polnilna vtičnica med sprednjim kolotekom in A-stebričkom na voznikovi strani, emblema “eDrive” na C-stebričkih in, seveda, označba “530e” na pokrovu prtljažnika so najbolj opazne prepoznavne značilnosti priključne hibridne različice. Ko potniki odprejo vrata, jih pozdravijo osvetljene vstopne letve z napisom “eDrive” in notranjost, ki odraža športno eleganco oblikovanja zunanjosti, enako kot pri vseh preostalih različicah poslovne limuzine. BMW eDrive se prilagodi in predvideva.

Poleg stikala za uravnavanje vozne dinamike, ki vključuje nastavitve SPORT, COMFORT in ECO PRO, imajo vozniki na voljo tudi gumb eDrive, s pomočjo katerega lahko še bolj natančno prilagodijo delovanje sistema BMW eDrive potovanju – prek treh načinov vožnje: AUTO eDRIVE, MAX eDRIVE in BATTERY CONTROL.

AUTO eDRIVE zagotavlja, da bencinski motor in elektromotor delujeta med seboj z optimalnim učinkom v vseh voznih razmerah in omogoča največjo hitrost 90 km/h v povsem električnem režimu vožnje. Ta način se samodejno aktivira kot privzeta nastavitev pri vsakem zagonu vozila. Če je izbran način MAX eDRIVE, obratuje BMW 530e iPerformance izključno na električno energijo. Pri tem uporablja polno moč električnega pogona in lahko doseže največjo hitrost 140 km/h. Vendar se v primeru, če je pedal za plin pritisnjen do dna (položaj kickdown) vklopi tudi bencinski motor, kar je zelo priročno, če obstaja želja po dodatni potisni sili, npr. pri prehitevanju.

Način BATTERY CONTROL omogoča voznikom, da ročno nastavijo stopnjo napolnjenosti za visokonapetostno baterijo. Ciljna vrednost se lahko prilagodi vrednosti med 30 in 100 odstotki največje napolnjenosti, s čimer se ta delež kapacitete baterije rezervira za povsem električno vožnjo v nadaljevanju potovanja. Inteligentno upravljanje baterije v BMW 530e iPerformance bodisi vzdržuje napolnjenost visokonapetostne baterije na izbrani stopnji ali pa jo poveča na predhodno izbrano vrednost, pri čemer deluje elektromotor kot generator. S tem lahko način BATTERY CONTROL vzdržuje ali celo poveča rezerve električne energije, npr. med vožnjo na avtocesti, da zagotovi, da se bo prihajajoči odsek skozi urbano območje lahko prevozil brez lokalnih emisij.

iDrive najnovejše generacije za še bolj intuitivno upravljanje.

Tako kot pri vseh ostalih modelih nove BMW serije 5, se navigacija, telefonija, razvedrilo in funkcije vozila, združene znotraj dodatnega visokoločljivega 10,25-palčnega prikazovalnika, lahko upravljajo ne le prek upravljalnika iDrive, ampak tudi z enostavnim pritiskom gumbov na zaslonu. Upravljanje s kretnjami BMW, ki se odziva na enostavna premikanja roke ali prstov, nudi uporabnikom nadaljnjo možnost upravljanja omenjenih funkcij.

Na voljo so vsi asistenčni sistemi za voznika in možnosti opreme.         

Novi BMW 530e iPerformance ne postavlja nikakršnih omejitev izbire možnosti opreme, kar pomeni, da lahko podpira voznika z obsežno ponudbo asistenčnih sistemov, ki se lahko uporabljajo tudi v načinu eDrive. Sistemi obsegajo pomoč pri izogibanju, opozorilo pred prečnim prometom, asistenta pri menjavi voznega pasu (storitev in aktivno opozorilo pri menjavi voznega pasu, ki posega v krmilni mehanizem vozila, da prepreči neizogibno trčenje)**. Dodatni možnosti opreme, to sta aktivni asistent za uravnavanje hitrosti (ACC) in asistent pri ohranjanju voznega pasu, sta odslej na voljo z novimi funkcijami. Te vključujejo uvoz omejitev hitrosti, ki jih asistent za omejitev hitrosti posreduje aktivnemu asistentu za uravnavanje hitrosti, medtem ko ima voznik prav tako možnost, da nastavi stopnjo odstopanja v višini +/– 15 km/h. BMW Connected Onboard: prilagojen začetni zaslon.

Z uvedbo BMW Connected v ZDA in Evropi tekom leta 2016, je BMW predstavil vseobsegajoč digitalni koncept, ki je namenjen podpori osebne mobilnosti. Z uporabo fleksibilne platforme imenovane Open Mobility Cloud kot osnove, BMW Connected brezhibno vključi vozilo v digitalno življenje uporabnika prek različnih stičnih točk, kot je iPhone, Apple Watch, pametni telefon (Android) ali pametna ura (Android). Preostale novosti so predstavljene v novem vozilu BMW serije 5 Limuzina. Mednje sodi npr. BMW Connected Onboard**, ki omogoča, da se prilagojene informacije, kot so naslednji navigacijski cilj, predviden čas prihoda in trenutne vremenske razmere na cilju, prikažejo na nadzornem prikazovalniku vozila. Poleg tega lahko BMW Connected prenaša dnevni red osebne mobilnosti uporabnika iz njegovega pametnega telefona naravnost v njegovo vozilo.

Surround View in 3D View nudita duševni mir vsem tistim, ki se pogosto znajdejo v nerodnih prometnih situacijah v mestnih središčih, s tem da jim kadar koli omogočata pregled nad neposredno okolico njihovih vozil BMW serije 5. Sistem prikaže pogled voznikovega vozila iz ptičje perspektive in tridimenzionalno sliko prometnih razmer. S tehnologijo Remote 3D View**, ki je vključena v BMW Connected, se lahko sedaj dostopa do tridimenzionalnih pogledov neposredne okolice vozila tudi prek pametnih telefonov, kar omogoča lastnikom hitro preverjanje stanja parkiranega vozila ne glede na oddaljenost. Slikovni podatki se na mobilno napravo prenesejo prek omrežja mobilne telefonije.

Enostavno parkiranje: ParkNow in On-Street Parking Information**.

Vozniki novega BMW 530e iPerformance bodo imeli dostop do storitev, kot sta ParkNow za digitalno rezervacijo parkirišča in plačevanje parkirnine ter On-Street Parking Information, ki se premierno predstavlja v novem vozilu BMW serije 5. Sistem uporablja model lokalne napovedi, da preračuna verjetne možnosti za parkiranje v določenem delu mesta in jih prikaže vozniku na prikazovalniku.

Dostop do elektronske pošte z Microsoft Exchange.

BMW je danes prvi avtomobilski proizvajalec, ki nudi uporabnikom računa Microsoft Office 365 varno strežniško povezavo za izmenjavo in urejanje elektronske pošte, koledarskih vnosov in kontaktnih podatkov - zahvaljujoč funkciji Microsoft Exchange, vgrajeni v vozilu. Brezhibna integracija omogoča uporabnikom, da ostanejo produktivni tudi med vožnjo. Naslovni podatki sestankov se lahko uvozijo naravnost v navigacijski sistem, medtem ko se lahko telefonske številke pokličejo neposredno prek povezanega telefona.

Šesti model z oznako iPerformance.

Podobno kot predstavlja M Performance vez med glavno blagovno znamko BMW in njeno podznamko BMW M, BMW poudarja prenos strokovnega znanja od BMW i na vozila glavne blagovne znamke, s tem da doda oznako iPerformance k označbam vseh priključnih hibridnih vozil BMW. Seznam inovativnih modelov, na katerem se bo po novem znašel tudi BMW 530e iPerformance vključuje še BMW 225xe iPerformance, BMW 330e iPerformance, BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance in BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance. iPerformance seznam vključuje tudi vozilo BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance, ki pa se prodaja samo na kitajskem trgu. Široka izbira BMW iPerformance modelov sega od kompaktnega do luksuznega razreda. Novi BMW 530e iPerformance prinaša šesti model v portfelj izdelkov, medtem ko bodo kmalu sledile nove dopolnitve.

BMW 530e iPerformance ima v praksi doseg do 650 kilometrov, medtem ko lahko izključno na elektriko prevozi razdalje do 50 kilometrov pri največji hitrosti 140 km/h. Elektromotor in motor z notranjim zgorevanjem usmerita moč na zadnji kolesi limuzine prek standardnega 8-stopenjskega menjalnika Steptronic. Ker je elektromotor nameščen pred menjalnikom, se lahko njegova prestavna razmerja uporabljajo tudi v povsem električnem režimu vožnje. S tem se odpravlja potreba za pretvornikom vrtilnega momenta, kar hkrati pomeni kompenziranje preobilne mase dodatne pogonske enote.

Edinstveni inovaciji za polnjenje visokonapetostne baterije: BMW Digital  Charging Service in BMW Wireless Charging.

Visokonapetostna baterija, ki vključuje litij-ionske celice s kapaciteto 9,2 kWh, je nameščena na mestu z varčno izrabo prostora pod zadnjim sedežem in obsega učinkovito hlajenje hladila z visoko integriranim nizkotemperaturnim obtokom. Zahvaljujoč dobro premišljeni namestitvi nudi BMW 530e iPerformance 410 litrov prtljažne prostornine in ravno dno v prtljažniku. S svojo inovacijo BMW Digital Charging Service je BMW prvi avtomobilski proizvajalec na svetu, ki nudi proaktivno, udobno in stroškovno učinkovito polnjenje, izpopolnjeno za uporabo zelene energije. Postopek polnjenja se upravlja ob vsaki priložnosti, tako da ima vozilo ob določenem času odhoda vedno na voljo polno kapaciteto baterije – po želji pa se lahko predhodno nastavi tudi temperatura v notranjosti.

BMW Digital Charging Service temelji na dveh glavnih funkcijah: optimizacija polnjenja baterije v smislu cene elektrike in uporabe sončne energije. Z optimalnim polnjenjem po ugodni tarifi, storitev prilagodi načrt polnjenja vozila po tarifi električne energije uporabnika, tako da se postopek izvaja s čim nižjimi stroški elektrike. Če ima stranka doma polnilno postajo BMW Wallbox Connect, se lahko proizvedena sončna energija prek domačega solarnega sistema prednostno uporablja za polnjenje vozila. Izhodni podatki sistema in zadnja vremenska napoved se uporabijo, da se predvidi razpoložljiva količina lokalno proizvedene sončne energije. Ob namestitvi potrebne merilne opreme imajo uporabniki tudi informacijo, kolikšen delež sončne energije ni bil uporabljen za gospodinjske odjemalce v času proizvodnje in se lahko zato preusmeri za zagotavljanje mobilnosti, ki je skoraj brez emisij. S tem se lahko vozila s popolnoma ali delno električnimi pogonskimi enotami čim učinkoviteje vključijo v domače okolje in individualno električno omrežje stranke.

Storitev BMW Wireless Charging za visokonapetostno baterijo bo za BMW 530e iPerformance na voljo v ponudbi dodatne opreme od leta 2018. Ta tehnologija omogoča prenos energije brez uporabe kabelske napeljave. V obliki prototipa, ki ga je predstavil BMW, je sistem sestavljen iz osnovne plošče z integrirano glavno tuljavo, ki se lahko namesti npr. v garaži, pa tudi na odprtem prostoru, ter sekundarne tuljave, vgrajene na spodnji strani vozila. Med tuljavama se ustvari izmenično magnetno polje, s pomočjo katerega se prenaša elektrika brez kabla ali stika z močjo do 3,2 kW. Diskretno vizualno razlikovanje zunaj in znotraj.
Vrsta nevsiljivih vizualnih poudarkov razkriva znake visokotehnološke pogonske tehnologije pod sprednjim pokrovom novega BMW 530e iPerformance. Modre prečke ledvičke, modri pokrovi kolesnih pest, polnilna vtičnica med sprednjim kolotekom in A-stebričkom na voznikovi strani, emblema “eDrive” na C-stebričkih in, seveda, označba “530e” na pokrovu prtljažnika so najbolj opazne prepoznavne značilnosti priključne hibridne različice. BMW eDrive se prilagodi in predvideva.

Poleg stikala za uravnavanje vozne dinamike, ki vključuje nastavitve SPORT, COMFORT in ECO PRO, imajo vozniki na voljo tudi gumb eDrive, s pomočjo katerega lahko še bolj natančno prilagodijo delovanje sistema BMW eDrive potovanju – prek treh načinov vožnje: AUTO eDRIVE, MAX eDRIVE in BATTERY CONTROL.

AUTO eDRIVE zagotavlja, da bencinski motor in elektromotor delujeta med seboj z optimalnim učinkom v vseh voznih razmerah in omogoča največjo hitrost 90 km/h v povsem električnem režimu vožnje. Ta način se samodejno aktivira kot privzeta nastavitev pri vsakem zagonu vozila. Če je izbran način MAX eDRIVE, obratuje BMW 530e iPerformance izključno na električno energijo. Pri tem uporablja polno moč električnega pogona in lahko doseže največjo hitrost 140 km/h. Vendar se v primeru, če je pedal za plin pritisnjen do dna (položaj kickdown) vklopi tudi bencinski motor, kar je zelo priročno, če obstaja želja po dodatni potisni sili, npr. pri prehitevanju.

Način BATTERY CONTROL omogoča voznikom, da ročno nastavijo stopnjo napolnjenosti za visokonapetostno baterijo. Ciljna vrednost se lahko prilagodi vrednosti med 30 in 100 odstotki največje napolnjenosti, s čimer se ta delež kapacitete baterije rezervira za povsem električno vožnjo v nadaljevanju potovanja. Inteligentno upravljanje baterije v BMW 530e iPerformance bodisi vzdržuje napolnjenost visokonapetostne baterije na izbrani stopnji ali pa jo poveča na predhodno izbrano vrednost, pri čemer deluje elektromotor kot generator. S tem lahko način BATTERY CONTROL vzdržuje ali celo poveča rezerve električne energije, npr. med vožnjo na avtocesti, da zagotovi, da se bo prihajajoči odsek skozi urbano območje lahko prevozil brez lokalnih emisij.

iDrive najnovejše generacije za še bolj intuitivno upravljanje.

Tako kot pri vseh ostalih modelih nove BMW serije 5, se navigacija, telefonija, razvedrilo in funkcije vozila, združene znotraj dodatnega visokoločljivega 10,25-palčnega prikazovalnika, lahko upravljajo ne le prek upravljalnika iDrive, ampak tudi z enostavnim pritiskom gumbov na zaslonu. Upravljanje s kretnjami BMW, ki se odziva na enostavna premikanja roke ali prstov, nudi uporabnikom nadaljnjo možnost upravljanja omenjenih funkcij.

Na voljo so vsi asistenčni sistemi za voznika in možnosti opreme.         

Novi BMW 530e iPerformance ne postavlja nikakršnih omejitev izbire možnosti opreme, kar pomeni, da lahko podpira voznika z obsežno ponudbo asistenčnih sistemov, ki se lahko uporabljajo tudi v načinu eDrive. Sistemi obsegajo pomoč pri izogibanju, opozorilo pred prečnim prometom, asistenta pri menjavi voznega pasu (storitev in aktivno opozorilo pri menjavi voznega pasu, ki posega v krmilni mehanizem vozila, da prepreči neizogibno trčenje)**. Dodatni možnosti opreme, to sta aktivni asistent za uravnavanje hitrosti (ACC) in asistent pri ohranjanju voznega pasu, sta odslej na voljo z novimi funkcijami. Te vključujejo uvoz omejitev hitrosti, ki jih asistent za omejitev hitrosti posreduje aktivnemu asistentu za uravnavanje hitrosti, medtem ko ima voznik prav tako možnost, da nastavi stopnjo odstopanja v višini +/– 15 km/h. Z uvedbo BMW Connected v ZDA in Evropi tekom leta 2016, je BMW predstavil vseobsegajoč digitalni koncept, ki je namenjen podpori osebne mobilnosti. Z uporabo fleksibilne platforme imenovane Open Mobility Cloud kot osnove, BMW Connected brezhibno vključi vozilo v digitalno življenje uporabnika prek različnih stičnih točk, kot je iPhone, Apple Watch, pametni telefon (Android) ali pametna ura (Android). Preostale novosti so predstavljene v novem vozilu BMW serije 5 Limuzina. Mednje sodi npr. BMW Connected Onboard**, ki omogoča, da se prilagojene informacije, kot so naslednji navigacijski cilj, predviden čas prihoda in trenutne vremenske razmere na cilju, prikažejo na nadzornem prikazovalniku vozila. Poleg tega lahko BMW Connected prenaša dnevni red osebne mobilnosti uporabnika iz njegovega pametnega telefona naravnost v njegovo vozilo.

Surround View in 3D View nudita duševni mir vsem tistim, ki se pogosto znajdejo v nerodnih prometnih situacijah v mestnih središčih, s tem da jim kadar koli omogočata pregled nad neposredno okolico njihovih vozil BMW serije 5. Sistem prikaže pogled voznikovega vozila iz ptičje perspektive in tridimenzionalno sliko prometnih razmer. S tehnologijo Remote 3D View**, ki je vključena v BMW Connected, se lahko sedaj dostopa do tridimenzionalnih pogledov neposredne okolice vozila tudi prek pametnih telefonov, kar omogoča lastnikom hitro preverjanje stanja parkiranega vozila ne glede na oddaljenost. Slikovni podatki se na mobilno napravo prenesejo prek omrežja mobilne telefonije.

Enostavno parkiranje: ParkNow in On-Street Parking Information**.

Vozniki novega BMW 530e iPerformance bodo imeli dostop do storitev, kot sta ParkNow za digitalno rezervacijo parkirišča in plačevanje parkirnine ter On-Street Parking Information, ki se premierno predstavlja v novem vozilu BMW serije 5. Sistem uporablja model lokalne napovedi, da preračuna verjetne možnosti za parkiranje v določenem delu mesta in jih prikaže vozniku na prikazovalniku.

Dostop do elektronske pošte z Microsoft Exchange.

BMW je danes prvi avtomobilski proizvajalec, ki nudi uporabnikom računa Microsoft Office 365 varno strežniško povezavo za izmenjavo in urejanje elektronske pošte, koledarskih vnosov in kontaktnih podatkov - zahvaljujoč funkciji Microsoft Exchange, vgrajeni v vozilu. Brezhibna integracija omogoča uporabnikom, da ostanejo produktivni tudi med vožnjo. Naslovni podatki sestankov se lahko uvozijo naravnost v navigacijski sistem, medtem ko se lahko telefonske številke pokličejo neposredno prek povezanega telefona.

Šesti model z oznako iPerformance.

Podobno kot predstavlja M Performance vez med glavno blagovno znamko BMW in njeno podznamko BMW M, BMW poudarja prenos strokovnega znanja od BMW i na vozila glavne blagovne znamke, s tem da doda oznako iPerformance k označbam vseh priključnih hibridnih vozil BMW. Seznam inovativnih modelov, na katerem se bo po novem znašel tudi BMW 530e iPerformance vključuje še BMW 225xe iPerformance, BMW 330e iPerformance, BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance in BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance. iPerformance seznam vključuje tudi vozilo BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance, ki pa se prodaja samo na kitajskem trgu. Široka izbira BMW iPerformance modelov sega od kompaktnega do luksuznega razreda. Novi BMW 530e iPerformance prinaša šesti model v portfelj izdelkov, medtem ko bodo kmalu sledile nove dopolnitve.

For the time being at least, the new BMW M550i xDrive will assume the status of range-topper in the new BMW 5 Series line-up. Boasting a mighty M Performance TwinPower Turbo engine, BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with rear-wheel bias and a bespoke M Performance chassis set-up, the new BMW M550i xDrive can be classed as both a four-door sports car and the most dynamic business sedan around. With its abundant torque reserves and high-revving characteristics, the V8 power unit serves up a matchless blend of supreme performance, wonderfully precise driving dynamics and uncompromised everyday usability. This all helps the new BMW M550i xDrive to set the pace in its segment and turn each and every drive into an exhilarating experience.

State-of-the-art high-performance engine melds power with efficiency.

The new BMW M550i xDrive is the first BMW 5 Series M Performance model to be powered by a petrol engine, namely a specifically modified M Performance TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder unit with a displacement of 4.4 litres. The V8 is equipped with two twin-scroll turbochargers and features the High Precision Injection direct injection system, Valvetronic fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control. This all adds up to an output of 340 kW/462 hp* at 5,500 rpm* (fuel consumption combined: 8.9 l/100 km [31.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 204 g/km)** and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb‑ft)* that can be summoned from just 1,800 rpm*.

The state-of-the-art, high-performance engine comes with all the dynamic credentials expected of a BMW M Performance Automobile, propelling the BMW M550i xDrive from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0 seconds, then on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). At the same time, the new V8 engine also demonstrates the exceptional efficiency of the M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology. The new BMW M550i xDrive already complies with the exacting EU6c emissions standard.

Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.

Drive transfer in the most powerful BMW 5 Series Sedan is, at present, handled by the standard-fit Steptronic Sport eight-speed transmission, which plays a significant role in the superb dynamics of the BMW M550i xDrive. The M Performance configuration of the shift modes has been tailored to the characteristics of the V8 engine, with distinctly sporty gear changes and more instantaneous downshifts across the entire rev range, and serves to enrich the thrilling driving experience. For an even sharper sporting edge, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission can also be operated using the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The transmission itself helps to cut fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its compact design, low weight and optimised efficiency.

The BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system in the BMW M550i xDrive splits drive power between all four wheels as the situation demands – intelligently and with a rear-wheel bias. BMW xDrive is thereby key to delivering two intrinsic elements of the trademark M Performance driving experience under all conditions: superlative driving performance and extremely precise handling. The exterior of the new BMW M550i xDrive boldly expresses the sedan’s dynamic performance capabilities, while also underlining its status as the flagship model in the new BMW 5 Series range. The M aerodynamic package, including an M rear spoiler with Gurney flap on the boot lid, accentuates the sporty, dynamic lines of the new BMW 5 Series, at the same time as optimising the airflow around and over the car. The exterior mirror caps, the kidney grille surround, the special M Performance bars on the front air intake and the two Air Breathers at the sides all sport the exclusive Cerium Grey metallic finish, while the high-gloss Shadow Line trim around the windows gives added impact to the dynamic business sedan’s undeniably sporty appearance. An M sports exhaust system – with exclusive tailpipe embellishers in Black chrome on the left and right – is responsible for producing the unmistakable and rousing BMW M soundtrack.

Driver assistance systems take the hard work out of routine tasks.

Just like the other models in the latest-generation BMW 5 Series line-up, the BMW M550i xDrive also offers an even wider choice of assistance systems to help the driver, if desired. These include an evasion aid, crossing traffic warning system and active Lane Change Warning, which uses steering inputs to avert an impending collision. The optionally available Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assistant now feature extended functionality. And Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which allows speed limits to be automatically imported into the cruise control system, likewise represents another step along the road to automated driving for the BMW M550i xDrive.

Forging an even closer link between man, machine and the outside world.

The latest generation of the BMW 5 Series enables close-knit connectivity between the driver, vehicle and outside world thanks to BMW Connected. This new system links up devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, computers and tablets, as well as the vehicle’s navigation system, via the BMW servers. This, then, is highly intelligent technology. Indeed, it is capable of identifying movement patterns as well as personal preferences, turning it into a de facto personal mobility manager that helps users to overcome with ease the increasingly complex challenges of day-to-day mobility. Before the journey has even started, BMW Connected automatically factors in Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) for route-planning purposes, and recommends departing earlier if a detour has to be made due to traffic hold-ups. And although BMW Connected uses the vehicle’s location as the basis for calculating the route in the usual way, it takes the BMW driver’s whereabouts into account too. The new system also merges the functions and services of the familiar BMW Remote app and BMW Connected app. Plus, users are able to access products such as ParkNow for digitised reservation and payment of parking spaces, not to mention the intelligent On-Street Parking Information feature, which identifies the areas of a town where drivers are most likely to find a free parking spot. And if the optional Remote Parking system is specified, the BMW 5 Series Sedan can be manoeuvred into even the tightest spaces from outside the vehicle with the help of the car key. Last but not least, once the car has been parked, BMW Connected helps to guide users to their final destination on foot.

Sportiness and everyday usability in perfect harmony.

The BMW 530e iPerformance is a sporty sedan that serves up the dynamic driving experience for which the brand is renowned, combined with the possibility of electric driving with zero local emissions. Its fuel consumption of 1.9 l/100 km (148.7 mpg imp) equates to CO2 emissions of just 44 g/km*. The BMW 530e iPerformance is the most innovative model in its class and offers the full wealth of BMW 5 Series driver assistance systems – in all modes, including eDrive. These systems are complemented by all the available comfort-enhancing features and excellent long-distance driving credentials, including a boot that can hold ample luggage for trips away. As for its power source, trailblazing BMW eDrive technology teams up with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create an exceptionally economical and powerful plug-in hybrid drive system that fits perfectly with the dynamic, smooth and efficient character profile of the new BMW 5 Series. The iPerformance tag attached to all of BMW’s plug-in hybrid models bears testimony to the transfer of know-how from BMW i to the core brand’s cars. Power delivery on a par with a high-displacement combustion engine.
The BMW eDrive system’s state-of-the-art electric motor has an output of 70 kW/95 hp and places maximum torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) on tap, while the four-cylinder combustion engine with its 2.0-litre displacement generates 135 kW/184 hp and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. The combination of motor and engine keeps the CO2 emissions of the BMW 530e iPerformance very low at just 44 g/km. The overall system output of 185 kW/252 hp and combined peak torque of 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) propel the BMW 530e iPerformance from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds and enable it to reach a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph). The BMW 530e iPerformance has a range of up to 650 kilometres (404 miles) in real-world driving and is capable of covering distances of up to 50 kilometres (31 miles) purely on electric power at a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). The electric motor and combustion engine direct their power to the sedan’s rear wheels via the standard eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Positioning the electric motor upstream from the transmission allows the transmission’s ratios to be used in all-electric mode too. This dispenses with the need for a torque converter, something that goes a long way towards offsetting the weight penalty of the additional drive unit.

The high-voltage battery pack consisting of lithium-ion cells with a total capacity of 9.2 kWh has been placed in a space-saving location underneath the rear seat and includes efficient refrigerant cooling with a highly integrated low-temperature circuit. Thanks to the battery’s neat installation, the BMW 530e iPerformance offers 410 litres of boot capacity and a flat load compartment floor. The high-voltage battery of the BMW 530e iPerformance can be fully charged in under five hours from a standard domestic power socket and in under three hours if it is hooked up to a BMW i Wallbox (3.7 kW charging capacity).

Discreet visual differentiation inside and out.
A series of understated visual highlights provide tell-tale signs of the cutting-edge drive technology under the bonnet of the new BMW 530e iPerformance. Blue kidney grille slats, blue wheel hub covers, the charging socket located between the front wheel arch and the A-pillar on the driver’s side, the “eDrive” emblems on the C‑pillars and, of course, the “530e” badge on the boot lid are the most noticeable identifying features of the plug-in hybrid variant. When passengers open the doors, they are welcomed by illuminated sill panels bearing “eDrive” lettering and an interior that mirrors the sporty elegance of the exterior design, just as it does on all variants of the business sedan. The BMW 530e iPerformance additionally comes with an eDrive button on the centre console, along with specially designed displays for both the instrument cluster in front of the driver and the central information screen.

BMW eDrive adapts and anticipates.
As well as the Driving Experience Control switch, with its SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO settings, drivers will also find an eDrive button at their disposal, which lets them tailor the BMW eDrive system’s operation even more precisely to the journey ahead through three driving modes: AUTO eDRIVE, MAX eDRIVE and BATTERY CONTROL.

AUTO eDRIVE ensures that the engine and electric motor interact to optimum effect in all driving situations and allows an all-electric top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). This mode is automatically activated as the default setting every time the vehicle is started. When MAX eDRIVE mode is selected, the BMW 530e iPerformance drives on electric power alone. To do so, it uses the electric drive’s full power and can attain a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). However, if the accelerator is pressed through to kickdown the engine will cut in, which is handy should an extra boost of power be desired – when overtaking, for example.

BATTERY CONTROL mode lets the driver set the charge level for the high-voltage battery manually. The target value can be adjusted to between 30 and 100 per cent of maximum charge, allowing that proportion of the battery’s capacity to be reserved for all-electric driving at a later point in the journey. The intelligent battery management of the BMW 530e iPerformance either keeps the high-voltage battery’s charge constant at the selected level or increases it to the pre-set value, with the electric motor acting as a generator. In this way, BATTERY CONTROL mode makes it possible to conserve or even increase the reserves of electric power while travelling on the motorway, for example, in order to ensure that an upcoming section through an urban area can be covered with zero local emissions.

Latest-generation iDrive for even more intuitive operation.
As in all the other models in the new BMW 5 Series line-up, the navigation, telephone, entertainment and vehicle functions grouped within the optional high-resolution 10.25-inch display can be controlled not only using the iDrive Controller, but also by simply touching the buttons on the display or with the help of the Intelligent Voice Assistant. BMW gesture control, which reacts to simple movements of the hand or fingers, offers users another option when it comes to operating these functions.

All driver assistance systems and equipment features are available.
The new BMW 530e iPerformance does not impose any restrictions when it comes to the choice of equipment options, meaning that it is able to support the driver with an extensive range of assistance systems, if desired – and these can also be used in eDrive mode. The systems comprise the evasion aid, crossing traffic warning, the Lane Change Assistant and active Lane Change Warning, which intervenes in the vehicle’s steering to avert an impending collision. The optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assistant now come with new functions. These include importing the speed limits relayed by Speed Limit Assist to the Active Cruise Control system, with the driver also having the option of setting a margin of variation of +/– 15 km/h (+/– 9 mph). This feature brings the BMW 530e iPerformance a step closer to automated driving, as does the Steering and lane control assistant; with this system, the vehicle helps the driver maintain a safe distance, accelerate, brake and stay in lane when travelling at speeds between 0 and 210 km/h (0 – 130 mph).

BMW Connected Onboard: the personalised start screen.
With the launch of BMW Connected in the USA and Europe in 2016, BMW has introduced an all-encompassing digital concept designed to aid personal mobility. Using a flexible platform called the Open Mobility Cloud as a basis, BMW Connected seamlessly integrates the vehicle into the user’s digital life via multiple touchpoints, such as an iPhone, Apple Watch, Android smartphone or smartwatch. Further new functions have been introduced in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, for example BMW Connected Onboard, which allows personalised information such as the next navigation destination, estimated arrival time and current weather conditions at the destination to be shown on the car’s display. BMW Connected is additionally able to transfer the user’s personal mobility agenda from their smartphone straight to their car.

Surround View and 3D View offer peace of mind to anyone who frequently finds themselves manoeuvring in awkward traffic situations in city centres by allowing them to keep an eye on the area surrounding their BMW 5 Series at all times. The system shows a bird’s-eye view of the driver’s car as well as a three-dimensional image of the traffic situation. With the Remote 3D View technology integrated into BMW Connected, these three-dimensional views of the vehicle’s surrounding area can now be accessed from smartphones too, allowing owners to quickly check on their parked car no matter how far away it is. The image data is transmitted over the mobile phone network to the mobile device.

Parking with ease: ParkNow and On-Street Parking Information.
Drivers of the new BMW 530e iPerformance will be able to access products such as ParkNow for digitised reservation and payment of parking spaces, as well as the On-Street Parking Information technology making its debut in the new BMW 5 Series. This system uses a local prediction model to compute probable parking options in a particular part of town and shows them to the driver on the display.

Email access with Microsoft Exchange.
BMW is now the first carmaker to offer Microsoft Office 365 users a secure server connection for exchanging and editing emails, calendar entries and contact details thanks to the car’s built-in Microsoft Exchange function. This seamless integration enables users to stay productive while on the road. Addresses from appointments can be imported straight into the navigation system and telephone numbers can be dialled directly from a linked phone.

Sixth model to carry the iPerformance tag.
In the same way that M Performance is a nod to the link between the BMW core brand and BMW M, BMW highlights the transfer of know-how from BMW i to the core brand’s cars by adding the iPerformance tag to the designations of all plug-in hybrid BMWs. The list of groundbreaking models in whose tyre tracks the BMW 530e iPerformance will follow includes the BMW 225xe iPerformance, BMW 330e iPerformance, BMW X5 40e iPerformance and BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance, plus the BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance sold exclusively in China. BMW therefore offers an extremely wide selection of iPerformance models, ranging from compact to luxury-class. The new BMW 530e iPerformance brings a sixth model to the portfolio, with further additions set to follow.
