Munich. Autumn 2025 adds revised powertrains, new features and practical details to the current BMW model range. The entry-level models into the world of BMW M – the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé as well as the corresponding models in the BMW 3 Series and 4 Series – will in future have more powerful and fuel-efficient petrol engines. In the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and the BMW i4, the optional Adaptive LED Headlights will now also include laser rear lights.

More power, reduced consumption for BMW M240i xDrive Coupé and the entry-level models into the world of BMW M in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

Autumn 2025 will see both the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.5 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 172 g/km; CO₂ class F) and the BMW M340i xDrive Touring (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.9 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 181 g/km; CO₂ class G) fitted with a more powerful variant of the 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. It now has an output of 288 kW/392 hp, with the mild hybrid system contributing 9 kW/12 hp. The overall increase in power over the previous model is 13 kW/18 hp. Maximum torque has also increased by 40 Nm, to 540 Nm.

This revised powertrain will in future also be fitted in the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.7 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 175 g/km; CO₂ class F), the BMW M440i xDrive Convertible (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.7 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 176 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.8 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 179 g/km; CO₂ class G).

The output increase makes for even more dynamic performance in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models mentioned above. It shaves 0.1 seconds off the time it takes each model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. As a result, the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan can now perform this sprint in just 4.3 seconds. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.0 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 183 g/km; CO₂ class G) now also comes fitted with this more powerful engine.

In addition to the output boost, all models benefit from a significant increase in engine efficiency. As a result, the WLTP fuel consumption of the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, for example, drops from 8.8–8.7 litres/100 km to 8.0 litres/100 km. CO₂ emissions were likewise reduced, from the previous 200–199 g/km to 183 g/km (see table below for all fuel consumption and emissions figures of the new powertrains).

New exterior colours for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, Adaptive LED headlights available for more BMW 4 Series models, practical addition for the BMW 5 Series family.
From autumn 2025, an additional exterior colour will be available as an option for all versions of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé with the M Sport design or the M Sport package. Cape York Green can be ordered for the first time in conjunction with these trim levels.

The optional Adaptive LED Headlights for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and BMW i4 will also benefit from a significant upgrade. In addition to headlights that will illuminate the road evenly in every situation, this option will now also include laser rear lights. Moreover, Adaptive LED Headlights are also available as an individual option without the M Sport package Pro for the BMW 420i, BMW 420d and BMW 420d xDrive.

In conjunction with Veganza and Merino upholstery, the comprehensive standard equipment in the BMW X3 now also includes rear headrests and side sections of the second row of seats in the upholstery colour. This further enhances the premium appeal of the BMW X3 interior.

All BMW 5 Series, BMW i5 and BMW M5 Sedan and Touring models will in future offer a very handy feature. A coat hook on the B-pillar trim, provided as standard, makes transporting jackets and coats particularly easy.

Improvements related to BMW Connected Drive.
From autumn 2025, the Charging Guide in the Explore tab of the My BMW app will offer relevant help on all aspects of charging – e.g., “How do I charge?”, or “How do I optimise charging?” This helps to make charging stops as convenient and efficient as possible.

BMW Maps charge-optimised route planning for all-electric vehicles is now also available in BMW vehicles with Operating System 8 and 8.5 in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Singapore.

Munich / Beijing. At Auto China 2024 in Beijing, the BMW Group presents the latest progress in its change towards electrification, digitalisation and circularity. World premieres of new BMW and MINI models take centre stage. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which heralds the next generation of BMW vehicles, is on show for the first time in China.

„With the NEUE KLASSE, we are carrying BMW into the future: in design, technology and philosophy. It begins already next year when we will release the NEUE KLASSE onto the market. Not with niche models – but starting in our most successful, highest-volume segments,“ says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse signals the start of a new era of individual mobility and provides a glimpse of the BMW brand's future model generation. It is rich in digital experiences, locally emission-free and circular in the long term to ensure typical BMW driving pleasure for future generations. Production of the Neue Klasse series models will start in 2025, initially at the BMW Group plant in Debrecen and shortly afterwards in China.

The brand's most popular electric vehicle worldwide is currently the BMW i4, the new version of which will celebrate its world premiere at Auto China 2024. The success of the BMW i4 confirms the BMW Group's open technology approach, which makes it possible to produce vehicles with purely electric drive systems and highly efficient combustion engines on a common platform. In Beijing, the new BMW i4 will be shown to the public for the first time together with the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé's combustion engine variants, which have also been further developed.

The world premiere of the MINI Aceman at Auto China 2024 marks the third member of the brand's new model family. The all-electric crossover model closes the gap between the new MINI Cooper and the new MINI Countryman.

"What the NEUE KLASSE is to BMW, the New MINI Family is to MINI: the most desirable product range in the history of the brand and the biggest investment we ever made in MINI. At just over four metres long, the Aceman embodies the basic idea of the original, iconic MINI of 1959: progressive design, optimal use of space and a minimal footprint.," said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Customer, Brand and Sales.

The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, in short: Auto China, is one of the most important trade fairs in the international automotive industry. The 18th edition of the exhibition, which alternates with Auto Shanghai, will be held under the theme "New Era, New Cars" and will be open to the public from 25 April to 4 May 2024. At the China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, car manufacturers, suppliers and service providers from all over the world will present their new models, products and technologies. The BMW Group brands will present their current product range on an exhibition area of around 2,000 square metres.

China premiere: The BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse combines the BMW Group's innovative strength and development expertise in the key future fields of electrification, digitalisation and circularity. A reinterpretation of the brand's typical design goes hand in hand with the progress embodied by the Vision vehicle. A clear design language reduced to the essentials with generous surfaces and few striking lines creates an almost monolithic body. Characteristic features such as the BMW radiator grille and the Hofmeister kink counter-swing on the C-pillar. are brought into even sharper focus.

In the interior, the next generation of BMW iDrive offers a unique digital user experience that merges the real and virtual worlds. It consistently puts the driver and his needs at the centre. In addition to the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and the Central Display, the driver can interact with the vehicle using the innovative BMW Panoramic Vision. For the first time, it projects information across the entire width of the windscreen and is complemented in the Neue Klasse series by the enhanced BMW 3D Head-Up Display. Analogue controls are reduced to a minimum in the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

The increased use of secondary raw materials, resource-conserving production methods and all-electric drive with sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology will reduce the CO₂ footprint of the Neue Klasse over the entire life cycle of the vehicles. In order to increase recyclability and take a decisive step towards a circular economy, the variety of materials used has also been reduced. An improved dismantling concept also helps to optimise the recycling of Neue Klasse vehicles.

World premiere: The new BMW i4, the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé.

The appeal of pure electric premium mobility is also being consistently enhanced in the current model range of the BMW brand. The BMW i4 will be available in four model variants on the world's automotive markets as part of an extensive model revision. The Connected Home Charging Package for intelligent, solar- and load-optimised charging at home will be offered in the first pilot markets. The BMW i4 also offers the Plug & Charge Multi Contract function, which enables charging at fast charging stations without an app or card.

The latest advances in digitalisation are represented by the latest generation of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect based on BMW Operating System 8.5, which is available in both the new BMW i4 and the combustion engine models of the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. With the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the enhanced BMW iDrive is consistently geared towards operation via touch functions and natural speech. The digital update in the new BMW i4 and the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé is accompanied by a redesign of the instrument panel. New steering wheels, interior trims and seat upholstery add modern accents to the premium ambience of all model variants.

On the exterior, the sporty profile of the premium mid-range models, which are extremely successful with both all-electric and conventional drive systems, has been sharpened by the redesign of the BMW radiator grille and headlights. In conjunction with the optional adaptive LED headlights, all models also feature exclusive laser rear lights. The range of exterior colours for the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé has been extended to include the new Cape York Green metallic and Fire Red metallic variants. New aerodynamic 19-inch and 20-inch wheels are also available.

World premiere: the new MINI Aceman.

With its all-electric drive, progressive crossover proportions and innovative digital features, the new MINI Aceman brings fresh impetus to the premium small car segment. It combines the brand's hallmark agility with creative use of space and high functionality, making it the ideal companion in the city. With four doors and a large tailgate, the MINI Aceman is just over four metres long and offers room for five passengers and plenty of storage space for everyday use and weekend excursions.

As a character in its own right, the MINI Aceman appeals to customers who value the expression of individuality and personality in an urban environment. Its reduced, purist exterior design with clearly defined contours and strong edges is an expression of the new MINI design language "Charismatic Simplicity".

The intelligent interior concept maximises space by cleverly arranging seats and stowage compartments to make the most of the available room. The expressive and colourful interior design is made possible by the use of high-quality materials and innovative technologies such as the 3D knitting process for the textile surfaces. The MINI Interaction Unit with circular OLED display, MINI Experience Modes and dynamic projections on the dashboard and door sills provide a holistic user experience of light, motion, interaction and sound.

Premiere of a new BMW i4 variant with electric all-wheel drive. • Most successful body variant of the BMW 4 Series range brings new features enhancing sense of sporting elegance. Interior has premium ambience with renewed sophistication; additions to standard equipment, newly structured options list.
• BMW i4 and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé are trailblazers for BMW’s flexible drive system architecture. Production of all model variants will take place at BMW Group Plant Munich. • Instrument panel with reduced number of buttons and controls due to consistent digitalisation. The ventilation and climate control functions and optional seat and steering wheel heating can now be operated by touch via the control display, by voice command and – in the case of the ventilation – using the new adjustment controls for the air vents.
• New interior trim elements in Dark Graphite matt are standard. Optional M Sport package includes interior strips in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite.
• Additions to standard specification for the new BMW i4 and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé also include ambient lighting – with additional contour lighting integrated around the new central seam vents – and the interior and exterior mirror package. • Four-door coupé vehicle concept offers a consistent balance of practicality, everyday usability and long-distance capability – with either an electric or a conventional drive system. Five seats and a large, high-opening boot lid; boot capacity of all variants of the BMW i4 and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé can be expanded from 470 litres to a maximum 1,290 litres.
• Fully electric BMW i4 now available in four model variants. New BMW i4 xDrive40 with electric all-wheel drive, maximum system output of 295 kW/401 hp and a range of 444 – 548 kilometres (276 – 341 miles) in the WLTP cycle. Also in the line-up: the range-topping BMW i4 M50 xDrive, the BMW i4 eDrive40 and the BMW i4 eDrive35.
• Combined Charging Unit for the BMW i4 enables AC charging at a maximum rate of 11 kW and DC charging at up to 205 kW (BMW i4 eDrive35: 180 kW). All variants of the BMW i4 now suitable for Connected Home Charging in the initial group of pilot markets: solar-optimised and load-optimised charging are possible, likewise (as the scheme expands further) cost-optimised charging using a dynamic electricity tariff. Plug & Charge Multi Contract enables convenient charging mid-journey.
• New BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé available with a variety of engines. Range includes the 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé, plus two four-cylinder petrol engines, a six-cylinder in-line diesel unit and a four-cylinder diesel. The six-cylinder in-line engines and the four-cylinder diesel unit have 48V mild hybrid technology. Eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission standard for all engine variants. Engine power is transferred to the road either via classical rear-wheel drive or the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, depending on the model.
• New BMW i4 and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé display the brand’s familiar sporty handling and well resolved driving characteristics at all times thanks to model-specific tuning for the chassis technology. Electromechanical steering with Servotronic function, an integrated braking system and near-actuator wheel slip limitation all come as standard. Intuitive and user-friendly operation via touch on the control display and natural language. New home screen with vertically arranged function symbols on a single level. QuickSelect rapid access enables direct selection of functions without having to enter submenus. Menu bar at the lower edge of the control display now also allows direct access to climate control functions. BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now offers additional languages and new graphics.
• Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus with cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system. Optimised and precise charging-optimised route guidance for the BMW i4 is unique in this segment. Optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional additionally includes the BMW Head-Up Display and Augmented View on the control display or instrument cluster.
• Simplified initial sign-in in the vehicle and synchronisation with the BMW ID by scanning a QR code with a smartphone. My BMW App enables overview of the vehicle status and various remote functions. It is also possible to control the charging process and pre-conditioning for the BMW i4 via the My BMW App.

Novi BMW serije 4 Coupé in novi BMW serije 4 Cabrio imata vpadljivejšo navzočnost v prostoru ter dajeta zelo napreden vtis, ki ga ustvarjajo novi žarometi s svojo markantno zasnovo in dobro obdelana površina prednjega odbijača.

Vertikalno razporejena LED svetila za bočne luči, dnevne luči in smernike. Nova svetlobna animacija za dobrodošlico pri vozilih, opremljenih s komfortnim sistemom dostopa (Comfort Access). Ledvička BMW ima mrežasto strukturo v notranjem delu, obdaja pa jo matiran krom – tako standardno kot pri vozilih z izbirnim paketom M Sport. 

Izbirno so na voljo prilagodljivi LED žarometi z matričnim dolgim svetlobnim snopom, ki ne zaslepljuje nasproti vozečih, luči za mestno vožnjo in ekskluzivne zadnje luči Laserlight v stilu BMW M4 CSL . Luči M Shadowline so na voljo tudi opcijsko kot del paketa M Sport Pro.

Ekspresivno zasnovan zadek lepo poudarja širino vozila. Opcijski paket M Sport zdaj vključuje difuzorski element v črni barvi visokega sijaja (Black high-gloss) in izpušne cevi s povečanim premerom (po novem 100 milimetrov).

Ponudbi zunanjih barvnih odtenkov sta dodana še New Cape York metallic in Fire Red metallic. Široka izbira lakov BMW Individual in posebnih lakov BMW Individual. Dodatne možnosti za individualizacijo s tremi novimi 19-palčnimi platišči iz lahke zlitine v zasnovi Y ali Double-spoke. Paket zunanje opreme M Carbon je tudi na voljo kot tovarniška opcija; širok izbor dodatkov BMW M Performance je na voljo iz ponudbe originalne dodatne opreme BMW.

Občutek modernega športnega avtomobila v notranjosti z ukrivljenim zaslonom BMW, že standardni športni sedeži in na novo zasnovan volan. Standardni volan in M usnjen volan imata raven spodnji del. Prestavne ročice na volanih so zdaj tudi del standardne specifikacije.

Novi BMW serije 4 Coupé in novi BMW serije 4 Cabrio sta standardno opremljena s perforiranimi sedežnimi prevlekami Sensatec. Opcijsko usnje Vernasca z okrasnim prešitjem zdaj na voljo tudi v dvobarvni črno-rdeči različici. Na razpolago je tudi usnje BMW Individual Merino v treh barvah. 

M Performtex zdaj prvič nastopa kot bolj trajnosten alternativni material za prevleke sedežev novega BMW serije 4 Coupé. Visokokakovosten velurju podoben material v črni barvi na voljo izključno v vozilih, opremljenih s paketom M Sport, in v modelih M Performance.

Obsežna digitalizacija omogoča nadaljnje zmanjšanje števila gumbov in komand v kabini. Optimizirano delovanje prezračevanja, klimatizacija in opcijsko gretje sedeža in volana prek nadzornega zaslona na dotik ter novi upravljalni elementi na odprtinah za dovod zraka. 

Zložljivi zunanji ogledali sta zdaj del standardne specifikacije. Opcijska obloga Sensatec za armaturno ploščo s še bolj prefinjeno strukturo površine. Standardna ambientalna osvetlitev zdaj dodatno s konturno osvetlitvijo okoli novih osrednjih odprtin za dovod zraka.

Notranji elementi oblog z novim matiranim premazom Dark Graphite so standardni. Opcijski paket M Sport vsebuje elemente notranjih oblog Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite. Steklene površine CraftedClarity za določene upravljalne elemente so zdaj tudi na voljo kot opcija poleg galvaniziranih površin za nadzorno ploščo v vratih.

Široka ponudba motorjev: trije bencinski in trije dizelski motorji so na razpolago tako za novi BMW serije 4 Coupé kot za novi BMW serije 4 Cabrio. Poleg izredno močnega šestvaljnega bencinskega motorja in šestvaljne dizelske enote za modele M Performance so v ponudbi še en vrstni šestvaljni dizelski motor, štirivaljni dizelski motor in dva štirivaljna bencinska motorja s tehnologijo BMW TwinPower Turbo. 

48-voltna blaga hibridna tehnologija pri vseh vrstnih šestvaljnih motorjih in pri štirivaljni dizelski enoti. Vsi motorji se standardno priključijo na osemstopenjski menjalnik Steptronic Sport. Moč se prenaša na cesto prek klasičnega pogona na zadnja kolesa ali prek pametnega štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive, odvisno od modela.

Četverica avtomobilov M Performance je na samem vrhu ponudbe. Motorji s tehnologijo M TwinPower Turbo, M-specifično tehnologijo karoserije in značilnimi elementi zasnove za notranjost in zunanjost dosegajo ultrašportne vozne lastnosti in ustvarjajo dinamičen občutek. 

Širok nabor sistemov za avtomatizirano vožnjo in parkiranje. Standardna oprema vsebuje informacije o omejitvi hitrosti, opozorilo pred čelnim trkom, kamero za pomoč pri vzvratni vožnji in asistenco pri vzvratni vožnji. Asistent za krmiljenje in ohranjanje vozila na voznem pasu, aktivni asistent za uravnavanje hitrosti s funkcijo Stop & Go ter parkirni asistent Plus so izbirni.

Novi BMW iDrive s QuickSelect doseže popolnoma novo raven preprostega in intuitivnega delovanja. Središče pozornosti je na upravljanju na dotik z uporabo nadzornega zaslona in naravnega govora. Nov domači zaslon in hitri dostop s QuickSelect z vertikalno razporejenimi gradniki. Menijska vrstica na spodnjem robu nadzornega zaslona zdaj nudi tudi neposreden dostop do funkcij klimatizacije. 

BMW Live Cockpit Plus je standardna oprema, vključno z navigacijskim sistemom BMW Maps. Opcijski BMW Live Cockpit Professional po novem vključuje tudi BMW Head-Up Display in razširjeni pogled (Augmented View).

V vozilu je mogoče aktivirati osebno kartico eSIM. Optimizirana povezljivost z mobilnim standardom 5G. Poenostavljena uporaba BMW ID in My BMW App. Zneske za parkiranje in polnjenje goriva je zdaj mogoče plačati digitalno iz vozila.

BMW, eden izmed svetovno najuspešnejših proizvajalcev premium avtomobilov se prav tako ponaša z izvrstnim položajem na trgu štirikolesnega pogona, segmentu, kamor je prvič vstopil pred 30 leti. Približno vsako tretje prodano vozilo BMW po vsem svetu je danes opremljeno z inteligentnim sistemom štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive. Uspešnost znamke BMW v tem segmentu ni le rezultat priljubljenih modelov BMW X, ampak tudi štirikolesnih modelov drugih modelnih serij, od BMW serije 1 do BMW serije 7. Vzdolž teh modelnih serij je na voljo široka izbira modelov s štirikolesnim pogonom za zelo različne verzije motorjev. Hkrati pa BMW nadaljuje z razvojem štirikolesne tehnologije in jo nenehno izpopolnjuje. Z nudenjem BMW xDrive v kombinaciji s hibridnim pogonom in platformo podvozja s sprednjim pogonom, proizvajalec vedno znova dokazuje svojo usposobljenost na tem področju, ki mu bo zagotovila vodilni položaj v tem segmentu tudi v prihodnje. BMW nudi danes več kot 110 modelov – s katerimkoli tipom menjalnika – z BMW xDrive v 12 različnih modelnih serijah, prav tako pa je ta oprema na voljo tudi pri priključnem hibridu BMW i8 in kompaktnem BMW 225xe z električnim pogonom.

Žarišče od prvega dne naprej: trakcija in dinamika.
Prvi naskok znamke BMW na trg štirikolesnega pogona se je zgodil z razkritjem BMW 325i “Allrad” na mednarodnem avtomobilskem salonu v Frankfurtu leta 1985. Novinec navzven ni takoj razkril svojih notranjih kvalitet, zato je imela njegova predstava, ko so ga novinarji odpeljali na testno vožnjo še toliko večji “vau” efekt. Prvi sistem štirikolesnega pogona BMW ni izboljšal le trakcije izven urejenih cest in v neugodnih vremenskih razmerah, ampak je omogočal tudi bolj dinamično vožnjo skozi zavoje. “Novi BMW je nov šampion, ko gre za obnašanje vozila med vožnjo,” se je glasila soglasna sodba testnih voznikov nemške avtomobilistične revije Auto Zeitung kmalu po prvem razkritju.

Današnji inteligentni sistem štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive pomika značilno vozno dinamiko BMW na novo raven. Aktualna generacija tega sistema je krmiljena s pomočjo integriranega upravljanja šasije (ICM), ki zagotavlja, da se xDrive vedno odzove ustrezno in v najbolj zgodnjem možnem trenutku, ki se določi na osnovi zanesljivega zaznavanja in nadzorovanja trenutne vozne situacije. Posegi se lahko izvajajo bodisi izključno z BMW xDrive bodisi z xDrive v kombinaciji z dinamičnim nadzorom stabilnosti (DSC) ali dinamičnim nadzorom zmogljivosti (DPC). Hiter in natančen nadzor porazdelitve pogonskega momenta zagotavlja značilne vozne lastnosti BMW tudi pri ekstremno dinamični vožnji skozi zavoj.

S tem je sistem štirikolesnega pogona natančno prilagojen tipičnim lastnostim pogona BMW na vsa štiri kolesa. To pomeni, da se pri modelih s štirikolesnim pogonom večji delež pogonskega momenta posreduje na zadnji kolesi, če vožnja poteka v normalnih voznih razmerah. Na ta način se ohrani natančna povratna informacija krmiljenja BMW, ki praktično odpravi navor krmiljenja. Za natančno zavijanje in visoko stabilnost ohranjanje smeri vožnje, najnovejša generacija sistema BMW xDrive povečuje količino moči na zadnji kolesni par, kakor hitro vozilo vstopi v zavoj, kar še izboljša užitek v vožnji, ki je sinonim za BMW.

Tehnologija štirikolesnega pogona BMW: neprekinjena evolucija od leta 1985.
Stalni sistem štirikolesnega pogona, ki je vgrajen v BMW 325i “Allrad” iz leta 1985, porazdeli pogonski moment med sprednjo in zadnjo premo v razmerju 37 : 63. Kot odgovor na razlike pri vrtilni frekvenci koles sta viskozna sklopka v razdelilnem gonilu in zadnji diferencial lahko zagotovila praktično togo povezavo med sprednjo in zadnjo premo, da bi se izboljšala trakcija in stabilnost. Ime modela se je kmalu preimenovalo v BMW 325iX, od leta 1988 pa je bil na voljo tudi v različici “touring” (mala začetnica v veljavi do in vključno s serijo E46).

1991: BMW 525iX.
Tri leta pozneje je BMW vpeljal štirikolesni pogon tudi v BMW serije 5. Prvič je bila porazdelitev moči uravnavana elektronsko. Prenovljen sistem je vključeval lamelne sklopke, ki so omogočale, da se je standardna porazdelitev moči med sprednjo in zadnjo premo v razmerju 36 : 64 spreminjala brezstopenjsko in avtomatsko v skladu z voznimi razmerami. Najprej se je hidravlično krmiljena lamelna sklopka uporabljala na zadnji premi, vendar je bila ta pozneje zamenjana z elektronsko krmiljenim selektivnim zavornim posegom. Sistem, ki je nadzoroval vozno situacijo prek signalov vrtilne frekvence koles iz ABS, je bil dopolnjen z dodatnimi informacijami o stanju zavor, vrtilni frekvenci motorja in položaju dušilne lopute.

Sistem štirikolesnega pogona v BMW 525iX je bil od vsega začetka razred zase. Elektronski nadzorni sistem je posredoval zelo hitro in natančno povratno informacijo, kar je pomenilo varno in nevtralno obnašanje vozila med vožnjo tudi v zahtevnih voznih razmerah, kot so mokre ali zasnežene ceste. Tudi pri BMW serije 5 so bili prvi modeli s štirikolesnim pogonom na voljo kot Limuzina ali Touring.

1999: Športno terensko vozilo (SAV) odpira novo poglavje.
Na uvodu v novo tisočletje je senzacionalno debitiral zelo inovativen koncept vozila znamke BMW. BMW X5, prvo športno terensko vozilo (SAV), je kupce navdušil z vozno dinamiko, ki je bila brez primere med ostalimi terenskimi vozili tistega časa. Izvrsten sistem štirikolesnega pogona je pri tem odigral pomembno vlogo. Planetno gonilo je porazdelilo pogonski moment med sprednjo in zadnjo premo v razmerju 38 : 62, medtem ko so elektronski nadzorni sistemi, kot npr. DSC (dinamični nadzor stabilnosti), ADB-X (avtomatska diferencialna zavora) in HDC (pomoč pri spuščanju po klancu), zagotavljali, da je bil novi BMW X5 športen na cesti in opremljen za premagovanje zahtevnih razmer izven utrjenih poti.

V letih, ki so sledila uspešnemu lansiranju koncepta SAV na trg, ni bilo pri BMW nobenega popuščanja v hitrem tempu razvoja štirikolesnega pogona. Leta 2000 je za model specifična različica tehnologije štirikolesnega pogona BMW X5 postala na voljo za četrto generacijo BMW serije 3.

2003: BMW xDrive debitira v BMW X3 in BMW X5.
Štiri leta od prihoda na trg BMW X5, je BMW nadaljeval s svojo dinamiko z lansiranjem koncepta SAV v novem segmentu vozil. Novi BMW X3 je bil kompaktnejši od BMW X5 in je nudil še bolj agilne vozne lastnosti. Postavil je nove mejnike in v naslednjih letih ostal edini premium model v svojem razredu.

Prenovljen sistem štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive, ki je bil istega leta vpeljan v BMW X3 in BMW X5, je kmalu povečal vodilni položaj znamke BMW v segmentu štirikolesnega pogona. Na osnovi ekstremno hitro delujoče elektronske lamelne sklopke v razdelilnem gonilu, je xDrive deloval v tandemu z dinamičnim nadzorom stabilnosti (DSC), ki sta porazdelitev pogonskega momenta stalno prilagajala aktualni vozni situaciji. Poleg vrtilne frekvence koles je elektronski nadzorni sistem prvič upošteval tudi podatke dinamičnega nadzora stabilnosti (DSC), kot so npr. krmilni kot, položaj pedala za plin in bočni pospešek. Zato je BMW xDrive prvi svetovni, in še vedno edini, “inteligentni” sistem štirikolesnega pogona. V nasprotju s konvencionalnimi sistemi štirikolesnega pogona, ki se odzovejo, ko se vsaj eno kolo že vrti v prazno, lahko xDrive zazna nevarnost prekrmiljenja ali podkrmiljenja že ob prvih znakih in proaktivno posreduje s preusmeritvijo toka pogonskega momenta.

Inteligentni sistem štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive v naslednjih letih ni bil vgrajen le v modele BMW X, ampak tudi v različice xDrive modelov BMW serije 3 in serije 5 obeh karoserijskih izvedb (Limuzina in Touring). Do prihoda na trg BMW X3 druge generacije v letu 2010, je bilo po vsem svetu prodanih več kot 600.000 vozil te serije. Nekoliko prej je prodaja BMW X5 – ki je s svojo drugo generacijo prišel na trg v letu 2006 – presegla znamko enega milijona.

2008: SAC z dinamičnim nadzorom zmogljivosti (DPC) in hibridnim pogonom.
Z dvema močno uveljavljenima karoserijskima izvedenkama SAV v svojih segmentih, je BMW leta 2007 javnosti predstavil prvo svetovno športno terensko vozilo s silhueto kupeja (SAC). Popolnoma novi BMW X6, ki je bil razkrit na mednarodnem avtomobilskem salonu v Frankfurtu, je dvignil značilen dinamičen značaj modelov BMW X na novo raven intenzivnosti. Inteligentni sistem štirikolesnega pogona je bil prvič kombiniran z dinamičnim nadzorom zmogljivosti (DPC), ki spreminja porazdelitev pogonskega momenta med zadnjima kolesoma pri vožnji skozi zavoj, kar zagotavlja neprekosljivo agilnost in stabilnost tudi pri nenadnih spremembah hitrosti ali prehitevanju. Leta 2009 je BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstriral naslednjo odlično kombinacijo – med BMW xDrive in hibridnim pogonom. Medtem je oddelek BMW M GmbH istega leta k svoji ponudbi športnih vozil z visoko zmogljivostjo dodal dva zelo posebna modela. Z M uglašenim sistemom BMW xDrive, vključno z dinamičnim nadzorom zmogljivosti (DPC), sta BMW X5 M in BMW X6 M pokazala zmogljivost, ki doslej v segmentu vsekolesnega pogona ni bila poznana.

Leto 2009 je bilo premierno še za en novi model z oznako X, to je BMW X1. V naslednjih letih je BMW X1 ostal edino vozilo svoje vrste v premium kompaktnem segmentu. Njegov inteligentni sistem štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive, enak kot v novem BMW X3 (2010), je bil prav tako združljiv z nadzorom zmogljivosti. Slednji selektivno zavira kolo na notranji strani zavoja, medtem ko sočasno povečuje moč motorja, kar zagotavlja hitro in precizno vožnjo skozi zavoje in dviguje agilne vozne lastnosti obeh modelov na novo raven.

BMW xDrive na voljo tudi za ostale modelne serije.
Nenehen napredek modelov BMW X je spremljala rast števila različic xDrive, ki so bile na voljo tudi pri ostalih modelnih serijah BMW. BMW xDrive, ki je bil konstruiran za izboljšanje agilnosti pri vožnji skozi zavoj in večjo natančnost, omogoča izpopolnjeno vozno doživetje in optimalno kombinacijo dinamike ter udobja. Zato je bilo le še vprašanje časa, kdaj bo ta inteligentna pogonska tehnologija doživela svoj prvenec tudi v BMW serije 7 (leta 2009). Spomladi leta 2012 sta bila prva modela Coupé in Cabrio s štirikolesnim pogonom na voljo tudi v športnem BMW serije 6. BMW xDrive se lahko naroči pri aktualnih BMW serije 3 in serije 5 ter, od leta 2013, v modelih Cabrio, Coupé in Gran Coupé novega BMW serije 4.

Nenehno spodbujanje napredka.
Z lansiranjem novega BMW X4 v letu 2014 je BMW naredil nov korak v premium segmentu srednje velikih vozil. Nova izvedenka SAC nudi edinstveno kombinacijo užitka v vožnji, prefinjenega sloga in moderne praktičnosti. Model X4 ima tehnologijo BMW xDrive na voljo že v osnovni opremi in je razpoložljiv s širokim spektrom različic motorjev. Istega leta je BMW prav tako predstavil modele BMW X5 tretje generacije, BMW X6 druge generacije in M športni različici obeh modelov. BMW xDrive je debitiral še v novem BMW serije 2 Active Tourer. To je bil nekoliko drugačen prvenec, saj je BMW svoj inteligentni sistem štirikolesnega pogona prvič kombiniral s popolnoma novo platformo podvozja s sprednjim pogonom.

Z BMW i8, ki je bil javnosti predstavljen leta 2014, je BMW Group pogumno zakorakal v novo smer, ki je vključevala tudi sistem štirikolesnega pogona. Ta športni model s konceptom sedežev 2 + 2 poganja zelo napreden priključni hibridni sistem, ki združuje motor z notranjim zgorevanjem na zadnji in elektromotor z visoko učinkovitostjo na sprednji premi.

Osredotočen na prihodnost: BMW xDrive sreča BMW eDrive.
Najnovejši modeli BMW s štirikolesnim pogonom prinašajo tehnološki napredek, ki je močno vpet v mobilnost prihodnosti. Vozilu BMW i8 je sledil mednarodni prihod na trg prvega proizvodnega priključnega hibrida iz jedrne blagovne znamke, in sicer BMW X5 xDrive40e. Po zaslugi stalnega sistema štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive in tehnologije eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics, združuje to športno terensko vozilo (SAV) vznemirljivo športno zmogljivost z izvrstno učinkovitostjo. Inteligentno upravljanje moči hibrida sinhronizira obratovanje motorja z notranjim zgorevanjem in elektromotorja, da v vsakem trenutku poveča učinkovitost, medtem ko se odlično odziva na voznikove zahteve. Pogonski moment iz obeh pogonskih enot se prenaša na cesto s pomočjo stalnega inteligentnega sistema štirikolesnega pogona BMW xDrive.

BMW serije 7: integralno aktivno krmiljenje združljivo z BMW xDrive.
V mesecu septembru 2015 je na mednarodnem avtomobilskem salonu v Frankfurtu svojo svetovno premiero doživela šesta generacija BMW serije 7. Najbolj luksuzna limuzina BMW, ki prinaša revolucionarne inovacije na vseh področjih, je z BMW xDrive na voljo od svojega prihoda na trg (oktober 2015). Nova luksuzna limuzina bo prav tako prvi model, ki bo omogočal kombinacijo inteligentnega sistema štirikolesnega pogona z integralnim aktivnim krmiljenjem, kar pomeni –pasivno krmiljenjem zadnjega kolesnega para.
