<strong>Munich.</strong> Bavarian premium carmaker BMW has come up
with an innovative brand campaign to turn the heads of an
international audience to the brand’s current range of models in the
luxury segment. The highly exclusive BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, BMW
X7 and BMW XM models are showcased as masterpieces of design and
engineering amid breathtaking landscapes. The impressive images send
out a message of exclusivity with a progressive flavour that appeals
to all the human senses in a nuanced way, reflects our intellectual
perspectives and provides us with meaningful experiences.</p>
<p>The new multi-channel campaign was launched on the YouTube and
Instagram social media channels. Additional content will follow with
country-specific packages of outdoor/print advertising and TV
commercials. These communications activities will begin in the USA,
followed – from September 2024 – by Germany, China, Great Britain,
Japan, South Korea, Czechia, Poland and the Middle East.</p>
<p>“At the heart of the new brand campaign are the uncompromising
performance, sophistication and inimitable style of our most exclusive
models,” says Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand Management
and Product Management. “The imagery used in the campaign invites the
viewer to experience the unbridled passion for design, craftsmanship
and innovative technology inherent in every BMW.”</p>
<p>The new brand campaign gets underway on the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nSFDDbqaBs" target="_blank">BMW YouTube channel </a>with an emotionally engaging
clip focusing on the BMW i7. The flagship model in the all-electric
vehicle line-up stars in the 60-second film – titled “Lifelines” – as
the embodiment of an exclusive and also progressive take on the
brand’s hallmark Sheer Driving Pleasure. Accompanied by a virtuoso
music track, the car moves along an upland plain through a landscape
bathed in atmospheric light. Here, the BMW i7 is presented as a car
for individualists who approach the future with confidence and on
their own terms, and take charge of their own destiny.</p>
<p>The campaign imagery also features the silhouette of a BMW 8 Series
Coupé in front of the dynamically curving contours of a rocky
landscape, the BMW X7 at the foot of a high mountain range with
snow-capped peaks and the BMW XM on a stretch of beach with stormy
winds and dramatically breaking waves. These powerful images are then
joined by the company name: “Bayerische Motoren Werke” is written out
  in full.</p>
<p>This emphasises the uniqueness of the brand, its origins and its more
than 100 years of heritage. At the same time, it also signals –
alongside exclusivity and elegance – the confidence of a company that,
over the course of its history, has repeatedly achieved enduring
success with solutions developed in-house. This approach has prompted
a genuine level of identification with its products in the luxury segment.</p><div class="co2emission"><div class="co2emission-headline">CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.</div><div class="co2emission-text"><p>BMW i7 xDrive60: WLTP combined: energy consumption 22,3-22,2

<strong>Munich. </strong>The most beautiful, exclusive and fastest
vehicles of their respective eras are traditionally assembled at the
Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. This year, the renowned classic car
show in the north-east of the US state of Florida provided the perfect
setting for the world premiere of particularly fascinating sports cars
from the BMW model range. The new edition of the BMW 8 Series and the
new BMW M8 models were presented to the public there for the first
time. Visitors to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2022 also
witnessed the launch of BMW M GmbH’s activities to mark its 50th anniversary.</p>
<p>For the new BMW 8 Series, the tradition-steeped event on the grounds
of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the neighbouring Golf Club of Amelia
Island provided the perfect setting in which to showcase its precisely
enhanced design and advanced features. The M sports package is now
standard in all model variants of the BMW 8 Series Coupé, the BMW 8
Series Convertible and the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé. At the centre of
the redesigned vehicle front section is the illuminated “Iconic Glow”
BMW kidney grille. The 8-cylinder models also feature aerodynamically
optimised exterior mirrors in the style of the BMW M8 as standard.</p>
<p>In the interior of all models in the new BMW 8 Series, their equally
dynamic and exclusive character is underscored with an extended range
of standard equipment including multifunction seats, an M leather
steering wheel and other M-specific design features. Optimised ease of
use is ensured by the standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a
Control Display that has now increased in size to 12.3 inches. “The
luxury sports cars of the new BMW 8 Series occupy a prominent position
in BMW’s model range. We are delighted to be able to debut these
exceptional models at one of the most prestigious automotive events in
America,” said Sebastian Mackensen, Head of BMW Group Region Americas
and President & CEO BMW North America.</p>
<p>History and the future came together in the BMW M brand’s appearance
at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2022. BMW M GmbH showed
pioneering models from its past along with the versions of its
high-performance sports cars for the luxury segment that will be
available from spring 2022. The models BMW M8 Competition Coupé
(combined fuel consumption: 11.4 – 11.0 l/100 km according to WLTP,
  combined CO2 emissions: 260 – 251 g/km), the BMW M8 Competition
Cabriolet (combined fuel consumption: 11.6 – 11.2 l/100 km according
  to WLTP, combined CO2 emissions: 264 – 255 g/km according to WLTP,)
and the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 11.6
  – 11.2 l/100 km according to WLTP, combined CO2 emissions: 264 - 256
g/km) are now even more impressive with new exterior paint finishes
and M light-alloy wheels, the M Shadow Line lights available for the
first time and an additional interior trim variant. The operating
system of the new BMW M8 models now also includes a 12.3-inch Control
  Display with touch function.</p>
<p>And the top models of the BMW M GmbH range not only offer
fascinatingly vigorous power delivery with their 460 kW/625 hp V8
engine featuring M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving
characteristics, they also come with an exceptionally extensive range
of standard equipment. This includes a flap-controlled M sports
exhaust system, BMW laser light headlights, the BMW Head-Up Display
with M-specific display elements and a full Merino/Alcantara leather interior.</p>
<p>With the debut of its latest high-performance models for the luxury
segment, BMW M GmbH makes a particularly impressive start to its
anniversary year. The BMW Group subsidiary, founded in 1972 as BMW
Motorsport GmbH, also contributed to the programme of the Amelia
Island Concours d’Elegance 2022 with a fascinating look back into its
history. A special exhibition showcased 50 milestones from BMW M
GmbH’s 50-year model and racing history. This also included an early
precursor of the current BMW M8. The prototype of a high-performance
sports car with a V12 engine developed by BMW M GmbH in the early
1990s based on the then BMW 8 Series Coupé remained a one-off – and
this was only the second time it has been put on show in the USA.</p>
<p>The selection of vehicles that were particularly influential in the
development of BMW M GmbH also included a freshly restored example of
the BMW M1 dating from 1980, which was the company’s first
independently developed model, the BMW V12 LMR that won the 24 Hours
of Le Mans in 1999, and the all-electric BMW iX M60 that is about to
be launched on the market (combined power consumption: 24.5 – 21.9
kWh/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km).</p>
<p>This unique exhibition of outstanding BMW M models from five decades
also included numerous vehicles owned by members of the BMW Car Club
of America and from BMW North America’s classic car collection. “The
United States is the world’s largest market for BMW M vehicles and we
are always amazed and delighted by the passion and dedication that
many enthusiasts here invest in their cars, both old and new,” said
Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “We feel privileged to be able
to celebrate our anniversary in this wonderful place, surrounded by
  special people and exceptional cars.”</p><div class="co2emission"><div class="co2emission-headline">CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.</div><div class="co2emission-text"><p>

appearance characterize the BMW M8 Competition Coupé (combined fuel
  consumption: 11.4 – 11.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO2
  emissions: 260 – 251 g/km), the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet (combined
  fuel consumption: 11.6 – 11.2 l/100 km according to WLTP). LTP;
  combined CO2 emissions: 264 – 255 g/km) and the BMW M8 Competition
Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 11.6 – 11.2 l/100 km according
  to WLTP; combined CO2 emissions: 264 – 256 g/km). Design modifications
  and optimized operation.</p>
<p>The new edition of the BMW M8, which is available in three body
versions, is particularly popular with additions to the range of
exterior colours and the M alloy wheels. Additional possibilities for
individualising the appearance are provided by the M lights Shadow
Line, which are available for the first time for the luxurious
high-performance sports cars. Full leather Merino/Alcantara in the new
Black/Sakhir Orange colour variant provides fresh impulses in the
interior. In addition, the operating comfort is increased by the
12.3-inch touch display of the BMW iDrive operating system.</p>
<p>
<strong>Fresh impetus for the presence of BMW M GmbH in the luxury segment.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW M8 Competition Coupé, the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet and
the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé together mark the top position in
the model range of BMW M GmbH, which has a strong presence in the
luxury segment with this model series. With their independent body
concepts, the three top models each embody an individual expression of
M of typical performance in the prestigious competitive environment of
  luxury sports cars.</p>
<p>Their central common feature is the drive and chassis technology
designed for an extremely emotional driving experience. Power for
outstanding performance is provided by a V8 engine with M TwinPower
Turbo technology, which mobilizes a maximum output of 460 kW/625 hp
and a maximum torque of 750 Nm. Due to its typical M high-speed
character, the engine develops high drive torque over wide load
ranges, which is optimally placed on the road via an 8-speed M
Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel
drive system. Their precise coordination enables exciting sporty
driving manoeuvres, such as accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h
in just 3.2 seconds (BMW M8 Competition Coupé and BMW M8 Competition
Gran Coupé) or 3.3 seconds (BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet).</p>
<p>A chassis technology developed with racing know-how and tailored to
each model guarantees the characteristic harmony of dynamics, agility
and precision in driving behaviour of BMW M Automobile in every
situation. The experience gained during the development of the BMW M8
GTE racing car was also used.</p>
<p>
<strong>Eight new exterior colours, premiere for M luminaires Shadow Line.</strong></p>
<p>Powerful shapes, generous, elegant surfaces, aerodynamically
optimised lines and M-specific design features that are geared to the
functional requirements of a high-performance sports car characterise
the unmistakable appearance of the BMW M8 Competition Coupé, the BMW
M8 Competition Cabriolet and the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé. The
clear surface design of the exterior is now particularly intensively
underlined by new exterior colours. The update in the body painting
program includes eight variants available for the first time for the
  three models.</p>
<p>The new range includes the exterior colours Skyscraper grey
mectallic, Brooklyn grey metallic and Isle of Man green metallic as
well as the BMW Individual lacquer tansanite blue metallic. In
addition, four new variants of the particularly high-quality Frozen
finishes are available, which impressively highlight the modern design
language of the BMW M8 models with their silk-matt finishes. The BMW
Individual special finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic, Frozen Deep
Grey metallic, Frozen Deep Green metallic and Frozen Tanzanite Blue
  metallic are also available.</p>
<p>The BMW Laser Light with adaptive cornering light and glare-free main
beam assistant BMW Selective Beam provides optimized visibility in
different weather conditions and driving situations as standard. As an
option, they are now also available as M lamps Shadow Line for the new
edition of high-performance sports cars. The dark design of the
inserts and chrome elements inside the headlamps, in combination with
the high-gloss black frame of the BMW kidney as standard, contributes
to a particularly striking and sporty look on the front of the vehicle.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New 20 inch M light alloy wheels in star-spoke design.</strong></p>
<p>The chassis technology of the new BMW M8 models includes
electronically controlled shock absorbers and an electromechanical M
Servotronic steering system, as well as an integrated brake system
that enables the display of two pedal characteristics. This allows the
rider to choose between a comfort-oriented and a sporty-direct pedal
feeling. As an alternative to the standard M Compound brake system, an
optional M Carbon ceramic brake is available.</p>
<p>The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) driving stability system allows
the driver to activate the M Dynamic Mode, which allows greater wheel
slip. In combination with the rear-wheel-driven design of the M
xDrive, particularly sporty driving maneuvers including controlled
drifts can be experienced. The standard equipment also includes
20-inch M light alloy wheels equipped with high-performance tyres in
  the sizes 275/35 R 20 front and 285/35 R 20 rear. Other M light alloy
wheels in the same format are available as special equipment,
including a new variant in star-spoke design and in bicolor black/grey version.</p>
<p>
<strong>M sports seats and M Carbon bucket seats in new
    leather/Alcantara variant.</strong></p>
<p>The interior of the new BMW M8 models combines a typical M cockpit
design with modern luxury. The standard BMW Head-Up Display offers
M-specific displays. The Setup button on the center console allows
direct access to the settings for the engine, damper, steering, M
xDrive and brake system. Two variants of the individually created M
Setup can be permanently stored together with the preferred settings
for the drive sound, the gearshift characteristic, the driving
stability control and the Auto Start Stop function. They can then be
accessed by pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel.
In addition, the M Mode button on the centre console can be used to
control the driver assistance systems as well as the displays in the
instrument cluster and the head-up display. You can select the
  settings ROAD, SPORT and TRACK.</p>
<p>The standard M sports seats also support the intensive driving
experience in the high-performance sports car. The optionally
available M Carbon bucket seats create an unadulterated racing feeling
for the driver and passenger. With their structure-based design,
visible carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) surfaces, integrated
headrests, openings in the backrests and side cheeks and guides for
multi-point seat belts, they combine racing functionality with
long-distance comfort and luxurious workmanship. They are heated and
also offer electrical adjustment options, an illuminated “M8”
lettering on the headrests and a memory function on the driver’s side.</p>
<p>In combination with the M Sports seats and the M Carbon bucket seats,
a full-leather Merino/Alcantara trim is standard on board the new BMW
M8 models. It is now also available for the first time in the colour
combination Black/Sakhir Orange. In addition, the black Alcantara
dimensions in all versions of this equipment are now being extended to
the instrument panel and the upper areas of the door sills.</p>
<p>
<strong>Optimized operating comfort thanks to 12.3-inch control display.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW Live Cockpit Professional is also part of standard equipment
in the BMW M8 Competition Coupé, BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet and BMW
M8 Competition Gran Coupé. It includes a control display whose screen
size has now grown from 10.25 to 12.3 inches. The touch function of
the large on-board monitor allows a particularly fast, comfortable and
intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions.</p>
<p>The BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the online navigation
system BMW Maps and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. In
addition, the standard equipment with the Driving Assistant, the
Parking Assistant including reversing assistant, the telephony with
wireless charging and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System
  underlines the exclusive character of the new BMW M8 models.</p><div class="co2emission"><div class="co2emission-headline">CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.</div><div class="co2emission-text"><p>

<strong>Munich. </strong>With yet another new sales record, the BMW M
GmbH continued to grow also in the 2020 fiscal year. Despite the
effects of the Corona pandemic on the market, it was possible to
increase the number of BMW M automobiles sold by 6 percent to
144,218 units. Thanks to this result, the subsidiary company of the
BMW Group with the status of an independent company has significantly
strengthened its market leadership within the competitive environment
first gained in 2019. “The fact that we were able to conclude this
exceptionally challenging year with yet a further record is great
validation of our consistent growth strategy,” says Markus Flasch,
chairman of the board of the BMW M GmbH. “We can be particularly proud
of the fact that we were able not only to defend our market dominance
as the most successful provider of performance and high-performances
automobiles, but also to have even expanded it.”</p>
<p>The further increase in sales figures was due, inter alia, to the
successful market launch of the models BMW X5 M (combined fuel
  consumption: 13.1 – 12.6 l/100 km according to WLTP, 13.0 – 12.8 l/100
km according to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 298 – 287
  g/km according to WLTP, 296 – 287 g/km according to NEDC) and BMW X6 M
(combined fuel consumption: 13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km according to WLTP,
13.1 l/100 km according to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions:
  305 – 300 g/km according to WLTP, 301 g/km according to NEDC). With V8
power units delivering up to 460 kW/625 hp, BMW M automobiles from the
Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe segment offer a
particularly characteristic high-performance experience. Likewise, the
special edition model BMW M2 CS (combined fuel consumption:
  10.1 – 9.2 l/100 km according to WLTP, 10.4 – 9.4 l/100 km according
  to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 229 – 210 g/km according
to WLTP, 238 – 214 g/km according to NEDC), which serves as the basis
for a new competition vehicle from BMW Motorsport, has also received a
positive response. In the high-performance model sector alone, it was
possible to increase the number of worldwide deliveries by 4 percent
  vs. the year 2019.</p>
<p>Moreover, it was predominantly the performance automobiles developed
for the new BMW 3 Series and the new BMW 4 Series that helped boost
the sales of the BMW M GmbH so decisively. With powerful straight
six-cylinder petrol and diesel power plants, specific suspension
tuning and stand-alone design features, the top-of-the-range offer for
the BMW 3 Series Sedan, the BMW 3 Series Touring and the BMW 4 Series
Coupe also guarantees that characteristic M experience in the premium
mid-range segment, coupled with unrestricted suitability for everyday
  use and long distances.</p>
<p>
<strong>Growing demand in all relevant markets. </strong></p>
<p>Technology transferred from motor racing, precisely coordinated
features in the areas of drive systems, suspension, aerodynamics,
interior design and operation as well as the resulting authentic
character of BMW M automobiles, create a fascination, which continued
in 2020 to captivate an increasing number of performance-oriented
customers throughout the world. For example, in the USA, the most
important market for BMW M automobiles, as well as in China, new
records were achieved. In both Russia and Korea, it was possible to
increase sales by more than 60 percent, and in Italy by 47 percent.
And in the UK, too, the number of vehicles delivered exceeded our
expectations. “We notice a steadily growing demand in all relevant
markets for BMW M automobiles,” explains Thomas Felbermair, head of
Sales and Marketing at BMW M GmbH. “Because of this and thanks to the
engagement of our strong dealer network, we have been outstandingly
successful in coping with the challenges posed by the pandemic.”</p>
<p>
<strong>Ready to go: BMW M5 CS, BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe. </strong></p>
<p>Looking towards the future, the initial focus shifts to the world
premiere of the BMW M5 CS, which will take place in January 2021. A
special edition of the BMW M5 will then be available for the first
time – with outstanding performance and exclusive motorsport
characteristics. Following that, the main focus will be on the market
launch of the new BMW M3 Sedan starting in March 2021 (combined fuel
  consumption: 10.6 – 10.3 l/100 km according to WLTP, 10.8 l/100 km
  according to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 241 – 236 g/km
according to WLTP, 248 g/km according to NEDC) and the new
  BMW M4 Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.5 – 10.3 l/100 km
according to WLTP, 10.8 l/100 km according to NEDC; combined
  CO2 emissions: 240 –  235 g/km according to WLTP, 248 g/km
according to NEDC). The two high-performance automobiles represent the
essence of that unmistakable M feeling. Immediately after their world
premiere, the new model generation aroused keen interest around the globe.</p>
<p>In future, the wishes of the M Community will be fulfilled by
extraordinary diversity: Each variant with classic manual shift will
be complemented by a Competition model featuring an 8-speed M
Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. Moreover, in the summer of
2021, the four-wheel drive system M xDrive will be added for the first
time to the drive portfolio for the BMW M3 and the BMW M4. And the
BMW M4 Convertible will also be launched in time for the warm season.
On the other hand, the first BMW M3 Touring is still undergoing the
  series development process.</p>
<p>
<strong>A glance into the future: continued growth, new M feeling
through electrification, and an anniversary.  </strong></p>
<p>“It is remarkable that it was possible to achieve the new sales
record even before the launch of our most important models,” says
Markus Flasch. “The new BMW M3 and BMW M4 generation offers us the
promise of dynamic growth in 2021 as well.” Moreover, he now also
looks forward to presenting a completely new manifestation of the
distinctive M feeling. Electrification will provide the basis for
this. During the year 2021, the BMW M GmbH will be presenting an
electrically powered performance automobile for the first time.</p>
<p>With this setting of agenda with which the “Power of Choice” strategy
has been realised within the model range of the BMW M GmbH, and an
exceptionally strong product range, the company is heading full of
optimism for the forthcoming anniversary year. 2022 will be the year
in which the BMW M GmbH celebrates 50 years of its existence. Markus
Flasch has already announced “a year full of surprises”: “If I mention
the keyword special edition models, it should be clear what our
customers can look forward to during the anniversary year.”</p><div class="co2emission"><div class="co2emission-headline">CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.</div><div class="co2emission-text"><p>

Car fleet: the BMW M8 MotoGP Safety Car. The 625 hp lead car is based
on the BMW M8 Competition (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 – 10.5
  l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 242 – 238 g/km*), which
made its world debut at the BMW Group #NextGen at BMW Welt in Munich
at the end of June. The new BMW M8 MotoGP Safety Car will make its
first appearance this weekend, at the MotoGP Grand Prix at the Red
  Bull Ring in Austria.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Innovative high-performance automobiles for the safety of the top
tier of motorcycles is the principle that has guided BMW M GmbH for
more than 20 years as partner of MotoGP organiser Dorna Sports and
‘Official Car of MotoGP’. The Munich-based company has provided the
official MotoGP Safety Car fleet since 1999 and the BMW M8 MotoGP
Safety Car is the latest highlight in a long line of high-powered lead cars.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“The BMW M8 and the BMW M8 GTE were developed in parallel, and these
racing genes distinguish the BMW M8 models in all areas,” said Markus
Flasch, President of BMW M GmbH. “That’s why it was a logical step for
us to choose the BMW M8 Competition as a basis for our new MotoGP
safety car. Even in its production version, this high-performance
automobile is suited to the racetrack. With its innovative technical
features, it is yet another example of our quest to keep pushing the
limit upwards. With the BMW M8 MotoGP Safety Car, we are really
excited to present a new, powerful lead car for the top tier of
  motorcycle racing.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The M power under the bonnet comes from the most powerful engine ever
developed for a BMW M GmbH car. The high-revving V8 unit with M
TwinPower Turbo technology develops 460 kW/625 hp. The
high-performance power unit teams up with an eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission with Drivelogic, and the engine’s power is channelled to
the road via the M xDrive all-wheeldrive system. One of the features
that stands out in particular is a newly developed integrated braking
system, an M-specific version of which presents the driver with two
  different brake pedal feel settings.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The precise interaction between powertrain, chassis technology and
aerodynamics has been carefully honed over the course of intensive
testing at the BMW Group’s test track near Miramas in southern France,
the winter testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and the Nürburgring’s
Nordschleife circuit, along with other race circuits. Experience
collected from the development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car also
played a role in the configuration process. The performance-focused
character of the engine, transmission and chassis allows the new BMW
  M8 Competition to power from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Painstaking manual work at the BMW M Manufaktur in Garching converted
the high-performance base car into the BMW M8 MotoGP Safety Car,
preparing it to appear as the course car in the world’s fastest
motorcycle racing series. This process included the addition of
numerous BMW M Performance Parts, many of which are available as
retrofit parts for the BMW M8 production model. These emphasise the
sporty appearance of the Safety Car and meet all the functional
requirements for aerodynamics, cooling and lightweight construction.
The transformation of the BMW M8 Competition to a MotoGP Safety Car
was completed by the inclusion of special racing features and the
  necessary safety equipment.</p>

In a few months’ time, with a full package of direct racing
technology on board, the new BMW M8 Coupé (combined fuel consumption:
  10.6–10.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 242–238 g/km*)
and the new BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption:
  10.8-10.6 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 246–241 g/km*)
will be setting a new benchmark in the premium segment of
high-performance sports cars suitable for everyday use. The BMW M8 GTE
race car know-how is incorporated into the production model. This also
applies to the accessory range of M Performance Parts. BMW presents
its extensive range of M Performance Parts right from the market
launch of the BMW M8 versions (440 kW/600 hp) and the even more
powerful BMW M8 Competition models (460 kW/625 hp). These lend an
additional touch of style to the design and sporty flair of the top
BMW 8 Series models, enabling further selective customisation. In best
tradition, all components are harmonised with each other as well as
with the specific character of the new model. In addition to enhancing
the sporty appearance of the models, the accessory options also meet
functional requirements in terms of lightweight construction and
aerodynamics. This is not least due to the comprehensive racing
expertise contributed by BMW M GmbH to the development of M
  Performance Parts.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Exterior components made of carbon fibre for an even more
    striking appearance.</strong>
<br />As a supplement to the optional Carbon Package, the M
Performance carbon fibre exterior components round off the dynamic,
elegant motor racing style of the new BMW M8. While the M Performance
sill attachments give the vehicle additional length in visual terms,
the M Performance carbon fibre radiator grille and M Performance
carbon fibre side decorative grille guarantee a compelling front view.
Developed specially for the BMW M8, these components with exposed
carbon fibre finish are elaborately crafted by hand and mutually
harmonised. Sealed with a clear finish and a high-gloss polish, they
are UV and temperature-resistant as being car wash compatible. The
same applies to the M Performance engine cover – an impressive premium
  racing-style eye-catcher when the bonnet is open.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Well-equipped to cope with the toughest conditions: M
    Performance sport brake pads.</strong>
<br />Shorter braking distance, improved response, higher thermal
resilience: the benefits of the M Performance sport brake pads are
many and varied. Derived directly from the BMW Motorsport
long-distance racing pads, the variants for the BMW M8 Coupé and
Convertible enable more dynamic, racing-style steering when braking
into a bend as compared to the standard configuration.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>M Performance Pro steering wheel for a perfect grip on the action.</strong>
<br />When it comes to being able to fully explore the striking
talents of the new BMW M8 models in terms of driving dynamics at any
time, a key factor is the M Performance Pro steering wheel with carbon
fibre shift paddles and carbon fibre/Alcantara – carbon fibre/leather
trim. Thanks to its impressively shaped Alcantara grip areas with
large thumb rests and special underlay, it guarantees excellent grip
therefore a direct steering feel. With their shift symbols in bold
red, the carbon fibre shift paddles – also separately available for
the standard steering wheel – emphasise the racing theme, as do the
blue central marking on the M Performance Pro steering wheel and its
seam in the hallmark M colours of blue, red and violet. The refined
motor racing ambience can be perfectly rounded off with non-slip,
easy-grip M Performance floor mats made of velvet velour with
leather-style surround, M Performance inscription and a pennant in the
  typical M colours.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Excellent protection for the interim periods between driving experiences.</strong>
<br />M Performance Parts even offers stylish and practical
accessories for the preferably short periods in between individual
trips in the fascinating BMW M8 models. The M Performance indoor car
cover protects the vehicle from dirt and scratches once it has been
parked in the garage, for example. The machine-washable cover made of
elastic polyester and with soft, paint-friendly inner side fits
perfectly over the body, highlighting various design features such as
the kidney grille with printed badges and inscriptions, for example.
Meanwhile, M Performance wheel bags are recommended when it comes to
storing and transporting an additional set of wheels. They provide
protection from soiling, ensure clear wheel allocation due to their
respective markings and create a racing atmosphere in the garage at
  home with their hallmark M design.</p><div class="co2emission"><div class="co2emission-headline">CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.</div><div class="co2emission-text"><p>

  l/100 km (26.2 – 26.6 mpg imp); CO2 emissions combined: 246 – 241 g/km).</p>
<p>The new models draw the energy for their exceptional performance
exploits from the most powerful engine ever developed for a BMW M GmbH
car. The high-revving V8 unit with M TwinPower Turbo technology
develops 441 kW/600 hp in the new BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8
Convertible, and 460 kW/625 hp in the Competition models. The
high-performance power unit teams up with an eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission with Drivelogic, and the engine’s power is channelled to
the road via the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.</p>
<p>The model-specific chassis technology has been designed and tuned
with the specific demands of track use in mind. One of the features of
the chassis that stands out in particular is a newly developed
integrated braking system, an M-specific version of which presents the
driver with two different brake pedal feel settings. The new
range-topping models from BMW M GmbH will celebrate their world
premieres as part of the BMW Group #NextGen event taking place at BMW
  Welt in Munich on 25 – 27 June 2019.</p>
<p>The precise interaction between powertrain, chassis technology and
aerodynamics has been carefully honed over the course of intensive
testing at the BMW Group’s test track in Miramas in southern France,
the winter testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and the Nürburgring’s
Nordschleife circuit, along with other race circuits. Experience
collected from the development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car also
played a role in the configuration process. The performance-focused
character of the engine, transmission and chassis allows the new
BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible to power from 0 to 100 km/h
(62 mph) in 3.3 / 3.4 seconds. The new BMW M8 Competition Coupe
sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, the new
  BMW M8 Competition Convertible in 3.3 seconds.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/1cd438ef-a432-4759-9543-24fd87495564/P90349308_highRes_the-all-new-bmw-m8-c.jpg"/></p>
<p>
<strong>Fast responses, a thirst for revs, and sustained power
delivery: V8 engine with signature M performance traits.</strong></p>
<p>The high-revving V8 engine presents a compelling blend of razor-sharp
responses, a feverish appetite for revs and sustained power delivery
across an extraordinarily wide rev band. The M TwinPower Turbo
technology of the 4.4-litre unit includes a pair of turbochargers –
positioned in the “V” between the cylinder banks and boasting
optimised efficiency – and indirect charge air cooling, plus a direct
fuel injection system working with maximum pressure of 350 bar.
Another technological highlight is the cross-bank exhaust manifolds.</p>
<p>In the new BMW M8 Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible, the engine serves
up peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) between 1,800 and 5,600 rpm – and
goes on to deliver maximum output of 441 kW/600 hp at 6,000 rpm,
en route to the 7,200 rpm cut-off. The power unit in the Competition
models sustains its peak torque up to 5,800 rpm and develops maximum
  output of 460 kW/625 hp at 6,000 rpm, its race-derived, high-revving
instincts taking an even more prominent lead. The most powerful
variant of the V8 teams up with a special engine mounting for a more
rigid connection with the vehicle structure. This results in even
crisper engine response and also has a positive effect on the
immediacy of turn-in and the transmission of engine noise into the cabin.</p>
<p>A sophisticated cooling system ensures optimum operating temperatures
at all times, both in everyday use on urban routes and when the cars
are stretching their legs on the track. The central cooling module,
for example, is flanked by two high-temperature water circuits. And
the system also features an additional engine oil cooler and separate
transmission oil cooler. The particular challenges of track driving
are reflected in the design of the oil supply system. The oil sump has
a smaller front chamber, which steps in when extra capacity is needed.
An additional suction stage allows the map-controlled oil pump to draw
lubricant from the smaller chamber. This ensures a reliable supply of
oil at all times, even under extreme lateral and longitudinal acceleration.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive.</strong></p>
<p>Power transfer is via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with
Drivelogic. The Drivelogic button on the newly designed selector lever
allows the driver to select from three modes with specific shift
characteristics for particularly efficient, sporty or ultra-dynamic
driving. There are also M gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.</p>
<p>Another factor in the enthralling performance of the new BMW M8
models is the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system with its rear-biased
setup. The centrally controlled interaction between M xDrive and the
Active M Differential ensures loss-free transfer of the engine’s huge
power to the road. And via the Setup menu, the driver can choose
between the default 4WD setting and 4WD Sport mode, which diverts a
larger slice of engine power to the rear wheels. Deactivating DSC
(Dynamic Stability Control) brings 2WD mode into the equation. The
transfer of power exclusively to the rear wheels and absence
of stabilising inputs from the control systems add up to a driving
experience of singular purity for the experienced wheelman.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/04043e68-8161-4f59-9a37-179093309119/P90349310_highRes_the-all-new-bmw-m8-c.jpg"/></p>
<p>
<strong>M-specific chassis with extremely rigid mounting.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW M8 models provide a fresh take on the characteristic
M feeling that translates into unbeatable directional stability even
in extremely dynamic situations, a linear build-up of transverse loads
however strong the lateral acceleration, and neutral steering
behaviour even at the limit. The chassis technology comprises
model-specific components and a setup fine-tuned in intensive testing
on race tracks. At the same time, the chassis also lives up to the
expectations of luxury car customers when it comes to everyday and
  long-distance comfort.</p>
<p>The rear axle also incorporates purpose-designed components to meet
the exceptional handling dynamics required of high-performance sports
cars. The M-specific forged links are one of the factors in the
fleet-footed agility of the M8, while the precise responses of the
suspension and damping elements are partly down to the anti-roll bars’
improved rigidity. Handling properties are given a further boost by
the front end’s high torsional strength, which has been achieved with
a tower-to-bulkhead strut and a newly developed, exceptionally rigid
shear panel with integrated side sill connection. A steel X-brace and
an aluminium transverse strut are fitted for an even more stable
connection between the rear axle and the body.</p>
<p>The new BMW M8 models are also equipped as standard with M-specific
Adaptive suspension including electronically controlled dampers and
electromechanical M Servotronic steering. The DSC system hooks up
with the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and the Active M Differential
and also offers M Dynamic mode. This mode allows a greater degree of
wheel slip and combines with the M xDrive system’s rear-biased setup
to deliver an exceptionally sporty drive complete with controlled
drifts through corners. Standard specification also includes 20-inch
  M light-alloy wheels in twin‑spoke design and high-performance tyres
  (front: 275/35 R 20, rear: 285/35 R 20).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Integrated braking system with configurable pedal feel.</strong></p>
<p>As an alternative to the M compound brakes specified as standard, the
new BMW M8 can also be ordered with optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.
Both variants are fitted in conjunction with an M-specific version of
an integrated braking system. Thanks to this cutting-edge technology,
the brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions are
brought together within a compact module. The brake pressure required
is triggered by an electric actuator, which means it can be generated
more dynamically, pedal feel is optimised and the interventions from
the stability control system are significantly faster and more precise.</p>
<p>The version of the new braking system developed for BMW M models also
presents the driver with two pedal settings. The driver can choose
between a more comfort-oriented and a particularly direct,
  instantaneous pedal feel.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Distinctive design as an expression of dynamism and exclusivity.</strong></p>
<p>The exclusive aura of the new BMW M8 models is further enhanced by
model-specific features geared to the functional requirements of
high-performance sports cars. Large air intakes and the BMW kidney
grille with familiar M double bars at the front end, lavishly flared
front wheel arches, M gills in the front side panels, aerodynamically
optimised exterior mirrors, a rear spoiler and a rear apron with
diffuser elements in a contrasting colour create a fitting visual
showcase for the dynamic potential and exclusive status of the new M
contenders. An M Carbon exterior package is offered as an option.</p>
<p>Character-defining features of the new BMW M8 Coupe include the
double-bubble contour of its carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP)
roof, reminiscent of classic racing cars. Passengers in the new BMW
M8 Convertible are protected from the elements by a high-quality
fabric roof pulled taut over the cabin. The multi-layer soft-top opens
and closes in 15 seconds at the touch of a button, even while on the move.</p>

<p>
<strong>Interior: signature M cockpit and luxurious ambience.</strong></p>
<p>The interior of the new high-performance sports cars brings together
an M‑specific cockpit design and progressive luxury. Standard
specification for the BMW M8 Coupe, BMW M8 Convertible and Competition
models includes model-specific leather upholstery options, the BMW
Display Key, the BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific content, the
Driving Assistant, the Parking Assistant and the BMW Live Cockpit
Professional (with navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant). Additional driver assistance systems are available as
options to provide a further boost to comfort and safety.</p>
<p>The new Setup button on the centre console enables direct access to
the settings for the engine, dampers, steering, M xDrive and braking
system so they can be tailored to personal preferences and the
situation at hand. Two individually composed variants of this M setup
can be stored permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the
engine sound, gearshift characteristics of the eight-speed
M Steptronic transmission, driving stability control and Auto Start
Stop function. The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up
at any time by pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel.</p>
<p>Another new feature is the M Mode button on the centre console, which
the driver can use to adjust the driver assistance systems and the
displays in the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M Mode allows
the driver to activate ROAD and SPORT settings, while the Competition
models also come with a TRACK setting designed exclusively for use on
race circuits. Changing the mode alters the information presented to
the driver on the screens, while the safety-enhancing interventions by
the driver assistance systems – such as active braking or steering
  inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum or deactivated altogether.</p><div class="co2emission"><div class="co2emission-headline">CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.</div><div class="co2emission-text"><p>

<strong>Munich.</strong> The feeling of an M car is unmistakable – and
now it can be tailored even more closely to the individual. BMW M GmbH
is unveiling a new display and control system for the configuration of
the powertrain, chassis and driver assistance systems on its
high-performance sports cars. As well as additional scope for adapting
the vehicle settings both to the situation at hand and to personal
preferences using the Setup button, drivers will also enjoy the
services of the new M Mode (activated at the touch of a button). The
Setup button can be used to adjust the vehicle settings, while M Mode
allows the displays and driver assistance systems to be tuned to the
driver’s requirements. This extra individualisation and even more
intuitive operation will be included for the first time in the new BMW
M8 Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 10.6
  – 10.5 l/100 km [26.7 – 26.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 242 –
238 g/km; provisional figures), and the new BMW M8 Convertible and BMW
  M8 Competition Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.8 – 10.6
  l/100 km [26.2 – 26.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 246 – 241
g/km; provisional figures). With the help of these new features,
drivers of BMW’s high-performance models for the luxury segment can
enjoy their exceptional range of abilities – from supreme
long-distance comfort to alluring track dynamics – in even greater depth.</p>
<p>The control system developed for BMW M models traditionally enables
their powertrain and chassis technology to be configured in a wide
variety of ways according to personal tastes and needs. Indeed, the
driver can activate various settings for the engine, suspension and
steering independently of one another. In models specified with the M
xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the distribution of power between the
front and rear wheels can also be tweaked. And now the new BMW M8
Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible offer the ability to configure the
  braking system as required, too.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>New Setup button enables intuitive operation with direct
access to all powertrain and chassis systems.</strong></p>
<p>The new Setup button on the centre console of the new BMW M8 Coupe
and new BMW M8 Convertible enables direct access to all available
setup options for five vehicle parameters. Pressing the button brings
up a Setup menu in the Control Display, which offers an overview of
the vehicle settings currently engaged. The driver can then activate
their desired mode for the engine, suspension, steering, brakes and M
xDrive – in a single step in each case – via the touchscreen or the
  iDrive Controller.</p>
<p>The engine characteristics can be adjusted by means of the EFFICIENT,
SPORT and SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS
chassis options give access to the three profiles for the
electronically controlled dampers. The driver can also choose between
COMFORT and SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical steering
and the new braking system. When DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is
deactivated, the 4WD, 4WD SPORT and 2WD (for pure rear-wheel drive)
settings for the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system also come into play.
Two individually composed variants of this setup can be stored
permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound,
gearshift characteristics, driving stability control and Auto Start
Stop function. The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up
instantly at any time by pressing one of the two M buttons on the
  steering wheel.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Premiere in the BMW M8: integrated braking system with precise
    pedal feel and M-specific configurability.</strong></p>
<p>The M-specific version of a new braking technology paves the way for
the configuration of braking characteristics, a feature available for
the first time in the new BMW M8. The new system brings together the
brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a
compact module. The integrated braking system reduces weight by around
two kilograms and employs a vacuum-free brake booster to enhance the
car’s overall efficiency. The brake pressure required is triggered by
an electric actuator, which allows it to be generated more dynamically
and also ensures significantly faster and more precise interventions
from the driving stability control system.</p>
<p>The integrated braking system also does an excellent job of allowing
vehicle deceleration to be geared precisely to the driver’s
requirements and of generating sublime pedal feel in any situation.
Braking feedback to the driver is unimpaired by wet road surfaces,
significant lateral acceleration or high brake temperatures, and this
ensures precise metering of braking power at all times. The version of
the new braking system developed for BMW M models also presents the
driver with two pedal feel settings.</p>
<p>COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the amount of pressure on the brake
pedal required to slow the car. This allows the driver to choose
between a comfort-oriented perception of the braking process and a
particularly direct, instantaneous response to applications of the
pedal. The new BMW M8 teams this innovative system with both the
  standard M compound brakes and optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Pure driving pleasure through innovation: the M Mode button.</strong></p>
<p>In addition to the new configuration options opened up by the Setup
button, the new BMW M8 also allows the gearshift characteristics of
the eight-speed Steptronic transmission to be adjusted using the
Drivelogic button on the selector lever and the engine sound to be
varied via a separate button on the centre console. M Dynamic Mode –
which raises the intervention thresholds for the driving stability
control and allows controlled drifts – and DSC Off mode can also be
initiated at the touch of a button.</p>
<p>A fresh addition to the new flagship models from BMW M GmbH is the M
Mode button on the centre console. This can be used to alter the
responses of the driver assistance systems and the screens in the
all-digital instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M Mode allows the
driver to activate ROAD and SPORT modes, while the new BMW M8
Competition Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Convertible also come with a
TRACK setting. These options enhance the hallmark M driving experience
according to the situation at hand. Changing the settings alters the
information presented to the driver on the screens, while the
safety-enhancing interventions by the driver assistance systems – such
as active braking or steering inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum
  or deactivated altogether.</p>
<p>In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional driver
assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M Mode
button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions. This mode
disables all interventions in the braking and steering systems, aside
from those made by the Collision Warning with braking function and the
  Evasion Assistant.</p>
<p>In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the instrument
cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant information for
sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial and the shift
lights (which indicate the ideal time to change gear), a digital speed
display and the gear currently engaged – is displayed in the cockpit.
Information on coolant temperature, charge pressure, tyre condition,
and longitudinal and lateral acceleration can be viewed in the right-
and left-hand areas of the instrument cluster. The Head-Up Display
read-out is concentrated around the engine revs and shift lights,
navigation instructions and distance warnings, the gear selected and
the vehicle speed, plus the speed limits and overtaking restrictions
detected by the Speed Limit Info system. Pressing the M Mode button
again returns the driver to the default ROAD mode.</p>
<p>An extended press of the M Mode button engages TRACK mode, which is
available in the Competition models and designed exclusively for use
on race circuits. The decision to activate this mode must be confirmed
using the iDrive Controller. In this setting, all the comfort and
safety functions of the driver assistance systems are deactivated. In
addition, the audio system and Control Display are both switched off
in order to focus the driver’s attention even more intently on the
road ahead. TRACK mode allows drivers of the new BMW M8 Competition
Coupe and new BMW M8 Competition Convertible to experience an
ultra-pure, racing-car-inspired distillation of M feeling. Added to
which, the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display also include M View,
although TRACK mode blanks out the road sign detection and distance
information. Pressing the M Mode button again takes the car out of the
TRACK setting and back into ROAD mode.</p>
