The Spaniard was again the fastest qualifier in this MotoGP season and secured the coveted prize for the third time in a row. The BMW M Award has been presented by MotoGP partner BMW M Division annually since 2003. At the end of each season, the winner is rewarded with an exclusive, individually designed BMW M car. The BMW M6 Convertible is powered by a 560-hp M TwinPower Turbo V8
petrol engine (combined fuel consumption: 10.3 l/100 km; combined CO2
emissions: 239 g/km). The BMW M6 Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100
in an impressive 4.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of (regulated) 250
km/h. Technology characteristics of BMW M, such as the double-clutch
transmission with Drivelogic, the M Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Dynamic
Damper Control, and Active M Differential, guarantee sporty and
perfect handling in any situation. The new BMW M6 Convertible for this
year’s BMW M Award winner is also visually stunning. Highlights
include the exclusive BMW Individual paint finish “Frozen Blue
Metallic”, 20’’ M light alloy wheels double-spoke 343 M with mixed
tyres, BMW Individual full fine-grain Merino leather in “Opal White”,
as well as BMW Individual Piano finish Black interior trims. In
addition, this year’s winner’s car features numerous BMW M Performance Parts.

Winning the BMW M Award for the third time, Marquez drew level with
record holders Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner. The Spaniard is also
the first rider to receive the BMW M Award three times in a row. In
2013, Marquez was the first rookie to win this special classification.
He was crowned fastest qualifier in his debut season in the elite
class. He repeated this success in 2014, and 2015 saw him pick up the
most BMW M Award points in the qualifying sessions once again. Marquez
started from pole position a total of eight times this season, and
with 365 points he claimed the BMW M Award with a clear lead once
again. The official presentation ceremony took place on Saturday at
the final round of the MotoGP in Valencia, Spain. The BMW M6
Convertible was handed over to Marquez by Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of
Dorna Sports, and Frank van Meel, President BMW M Division.

“I am really happy to have won the BMW M Award for third time in a
row,” said Marquez at the prize-giving ceremony in Valencia. “For us
riders, this award is always something special. The BMW M6 is a great
car and I like the acceleration and the handling. The fact that it is
the BMW M6 Convertible makes this prize even more special. It is the
first time that I won a convertible car and for me living in Spain,
this is just perfect. I can’t wait to get in the car and drive it!”

“The BMW M Award is an important part of our long-standing and
successful partnership with BMW M Division,” explained Carmelo
Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports. “It is fantastic that BMW M Division
honours the achievements of our MotoGP riders in the qualifying
sessions in this special way. The BMW M Award has been one of the
highlights of every MotoGP season for 13 years now, and yet BMW M
Division still manages to surpass itself every year. With the BMW M6
Convertible, we have yet another absolutely fascinating
high-performance automobile to present to Marc Marquez.
Congratulations to Marc - I have no doubt that he will also enjoy his
award this year.”

“Marc Marquez already wrote history two years ago when he became the
first rookie to win the BMW M Award. Now he is the first rider to be
entered in the list of winners three times in a row. Many
congratulations on this impressive achievement,” said Frank van Meel,
President BMW M Division. “The BMW M Award is an important pillar of
our comprehensive involvement in MotoGP and when selecting the prize
it is important to us to pick a real highlight each season. I feel
that we have managed this once again with the BMW M6 Convertible. The
fact that the BMW M Award is so coveted by the MotoGP riders, whose
lives are characterised by technological innovation, high performance
and continuously driving at the limit makes us proud. It proves that
our products have exactly these attributes, which is what makes them
so popular with the fastest motorcycle racers in the world. We hope
Marc Marquez enjoys his BMW M6 Convertible and look forward to next
season and the 2016 BMW M Award.”

The BMW M Award was presented for the 13th time in 2015.
Just like the points system for the races, riders at each Grand Prix
weekend are awarded points relative to their positions in qualifying.
Pole position is rewarded with 25 points, second place on the grid
earns 20 points and third place scores 16 points – right down to one
point for 15th. The rider with the most points at the end
of the season wins the BMW M Award. Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and
Casey Stoner are the current record holders, each with three BMW M
Awards to their name – with Marquez being the only rider who has won
three times in a row. His Spanish compatriot Jorge Lorenzo has earned
the coveted title of top qualifier twice so far. Sete Gibernau and
Nicky Hayden have both won the BMW M Award once.

Contato de imprensa: Joao Trincheiras
Tel: +351-21-487-3080
endereço de e-mail: joao.trincheiras@bmw.pt

Press Release,Concept Vehicles & Design,BMW,M6,Convertible,F12M LCI,Product,BMW M

Munich. In July 2015 BMW M GmbH will replace the
existing Competition Package for the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe
and BMW M6 Convertible with an upgraded version. The new Competition
Package has been developed with a keen eye on enhancing driving
dynamics. It includes a power boost for the 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine
with M TwinPower Turbo technology (BMW M6 Coupe/BMW M6 Gran Coupe/BMW
M6 Convertible: fuel consumption combined: 9.9/9.9/10.3 l/100 km
[28.5/28.5/27.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 231/231/239 g/km)*
of 29 kW/40 hp over the standard unit, to 441 kW/600 hp. Peak torque
also rises, from 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) in standard tune to 700 Nm (516
lb-ft), and is available across an extremely wide rev band – between
1,500 and 6,000 rpm.

New personal best for the BMW M6 Coupe: 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph)
in 11.8 seconds.
The three model variants impress with outstanding performance
when fitted with the new optional Competition Package. For example,
the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is all over in 3.9 seconds in
the BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Gran Coupe or 4.0 seconds in the BMW M6
Convertible. What’s more, the BMW M6 Coupe requires just 11.8 seconds
to power from 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph), making it 0.6 seconds faster to
the mark than with the previous version of the Competition Package
(423 kW/575 hp). The top speed of all Competition models is
electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), but can be stoked to 305
km/h (189 mph) by specifying the optional M Driver’s Package.

The Competition Package includes various measures designed to
appreciably enrich the cars’ handling. Here the same principle applies
as in the development of all BMW M cars: the chassis technology is
tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the powertrain.
The result is maximum performance combined with assured and precisely
controllable responses at all times – even when pushing the dynamic
envelope. To this end, the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars all get
firmer tuning. The Active M Differential on the final drive works with
its own control unit to further improve traction, allowing the driver
to accelerate even more dynamically out of tight corners, for example.
The steering with M-specific Servotronic function has more direct
mapping while the M Dynamic Mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability
Control) system is focused even more intently on delivering sporty handling.

Externally, the BMW M6 Competition models make hearts beat faster
with exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels (double-spoke 601M,
bi-colour) and mixed tyres, plus black chrome twin tailpipes for the
sports exhaust system.

The BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible with
Competition Package will be available from July 2015.

BMW M Division, partner of MotoGP
organiser Dorna Sports, presented the next highlight in its MotoGP
involvement at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera (ES)
today: the car to be presented to the winner of the coveted BMW M
Award. Since 2003, the rider with the best qualifying results come the
end of the season has been rewarded with an exclusive, individually
customised BMW M car. This year too, a very special prize awaits the
top MotoGP qualifier: the new BMW M6 Convertible, with individual
extras. The exclusive high-performance car was unveiled today in the
MotoGP paddock at the Circuito de Jerez.

“The BMW M Award is one of the highlights of every MotoGP season –
every rider wants to be the one to receive this outstanding prize at
the end of the year,” emphasised Pau Serracanta, Managing Director of
the Commercial department at Dorna Sports, at the presentation. “The
unveiling of the winner’s car here in Jerez has become an important
tradition for us. The entire MotoGP family is very excited about it,
and BMW M Division has surprised us again this year with a truly
breath-taking car. I am certain that this stunning BMW M6 Convertible
will be a coveted prize among the riders.”

“We are very proud that the BMW M Award is held in such high esteem
within MotoGP,” said Axel Mittler, Head of Cooperation MotoGP at BMW M
Division. “This award is also an important part of our long and
successful partnership with MotoGP. For this reason, it is very
important for us to provide a genuine highlight as the prize each
year. For the 2015 season we opted for our new BMW M6 Convertible,
which enjoyed its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
We now have our fingers crossed for all MotoGP riders in the race for
this year’s BMW M Award.”

The new BMW M6 line-up allows BMW M Division to restate its
leadership in the high-performance luxury segment. The outgoing models
had already set new benchmarks with the flawless balance of power,
efficiency, agility, comfort and luxury that is typical of M models.
And now the latest BMW M6 models, including the new BMW M6
Convertible, are is poised to write a fresh chapter in this success
story, fuelled by an even more finely honed, well-resolved overall
concept. Aboard the new BMW M6 Convertible, the driver experiences the
perfect symbiosis of stunning performance and a refined convertible.
The power comes courtesy of the 560-hp M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol
engine (combined fuel consumption: 10.3 l/100 km; combined CO2
emissions: 239 g/km). The BMW M6 Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100
km/ in an impressive 4.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of (regulated)
250 km/h. Technology characteristic of BMW M, such as the
double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, Dynamic Damper Control,
and Active M Differential, guarantee sporty and perfect handling in
any situation.

The new BMW M6 Convertible for this year’s BMW M Award winner is also

extremely elegant. This imposing appearance is reinforced by the
Double-spoke style 20-inch BMW M light alloy wheels. The interior
features BMW Individual full fine-grain Merino leather in “Opal
White”, as well as BMW Individual interior trims in “Ash Grain White”
real wood.

In 2015, the BMW M Award will be presented for the 13th
time. Just like the points system for the races, riders at each Grand
Prix weekend are awarded points relative to their positions in
qualifying. Pole position is rewarded with 25 points, second place on
the grid earns 20 points and third place scores 16 points – right down
to one point for 15th. The rider with the most points at
the end of the season wins the BMW M Award.

Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner are the current record holders, each
with three BMW M Awards to their name. In 2013, Marc Marquez was
crowned the youngest ever winner of the BMW M Award, and the first
rider to receive this award in his first season at the pinnacle of
motorcycle racing. In 2014, Márquez won the BMW M Award for a second
time. His compatriot Jorge Lorenzo has also earned the coveted title
of top qualifier twice so far. Sete Gibernau and Nicky Hayden have
both won the BMW M Award once.

The BMW M Award is one of the many pillars of BMW M’s long-term
commitment to the pinnacle of motorcycle racing. At the centre of the
partnership with Dorna Sports is the provision of the BMW M fleet.

end with new, standard-fitted LED headlights makes their intentions
immediately clear – the M‑specific double-bar kidney grille and
eye-catching front apron with large air intakes see to that. The
powerfully sculpted front wings with hallmark M gills (including
integrated side indicators), the side skirts and the exclusive forged
19-inch M light-alloy wheels (BMW M6 Gran Coupe exclusive forged
20-inch M light-alloy wheels) only add to this impression. The
sporting looks of the new BMW M6 Coupe, new BMW M6 Convertible and new
BMW M6 Gran Coupe are rounded off by a rear apron with integrated
diffuser insert, two sets of M-specific twin tailpipes and the M6 logo
on the boot lid. Another exclusive M feature is the ultra-lightweight
contoured carbon roof of the new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Gran
Coupe, which also helps to lower the cars’ centre of gravity visually.

Contato de imprensa: Joao Trincheiras
Tel: +351-21-487-3080
endereço de e-mail: joao.trincheiras@bmw.pt

Press Kit,M6,Coupé,Convertible,F13M,F12M,F06M,Gran Coupé,Product,BMW M

The scene is now set for the BMW M car driving experience at its most
exclusive. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe high-performance sports car is a
vision of poise and assurance, combining supreme performance with
captivating aesthetics and luxurious elegance. The new BMW M GmbH
flagship is powered by a high-revving V8 engine that boasts
M TwinPower Turbo technology, develops 412 kW/560 hp and propels the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. The
performance characteristics of the car’s engine, its chassis
technology, aerodynamic properties and weight balance – which the
carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof helps to optimise – are
intertwined with hallmark M precision. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe therefore
represents not only a new experience of luxury in an M car, but also
the ultimate expression of the dynamic potential embedded in the BMW 6 Series.

The company’s foray into this new segment of high-performance luxury
four-door coupes provides a window into the passion of the engineers
and designers at BMW M GmbH for creating extraordinary driving
experiences out of the top drawer. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe presents the
finest balance of inspirational design, sports-oriented performance
and luxurious ambience in its class. Its extra interior space allows
two rear passengers to enjoy generous levels of long-distance comfort,
while the rear compartment of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe also offers a
third rear seat suitable for use over shorter journeys.

Design: the beauty of majestic power delivery.

Hallmark M design features influenced directly by technical
considerations – such as cooling air requirements, chassis geometry,
weight balance and aerodynamics – open a clear window into the
performance capability of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The front of the car
is dominated by its large air intakes, standard Adaptive LED
Headlights and an M kidney grille designed especially for this model.
From the side, the first four-door Coupe in the BMW M GmbH ranks is
clearly distinguishable from the BMW M6 Coupe thanks to its rear doors
and 113-millimetre longer wheelbase. The low roofline flowing smoothly
into the rear, the swage line – which takes in the door openers – and
side windows extending well into the C-pillars accentuate the
dynamically stretched silhouette.

Prominently flared wheel arches draw the eye to a track width
specific to the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The characteristic M gills,
aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors, standard BMW Individual
High-gloss Shadow Line package and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy
wheels in double-spoke design underline the car’s distinctive
appearance, as does another M signature – twin exhaust tailpipes
positioned on the outer edges of the rear apron. Also integrated into
the rear apron, and charged with the task of optimising airflow along
the car’s underbody, is a diffuser made from CFRP.

This extremely lightweight, impressively strong high-tech material is
used in the construction of the roof as well. Here, the visible carbon
structure provides an eye-catching feature, as does a dynamic recess
in the centre of the roof. This recess is referenced stylistically
inside the car, the anthracite-coloured Alcantara roof liner gaining a
central section in leather.

Emulating the harmonious blend of athletic prowess and elegance
embodied by the exterior design, the distinctively M cockpit fuses
sports car style with generous levels of space and a luxurious
ambience. The driver and front passenger can look forward to M sports
seats with integral belt guides. And the BMW M6 Gran Coupe’s standard
specification also includes Merino leather upholstery with extended
features. The rear compartment offers two or three seats, the
backrests of which can split and fold down in a ratio of 40 : 60 to
increase boot capacity from 460 to as much as 1,265 litres.

V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, seven-speed
M
Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, Active M Differential.

The powertrain technology under the skin of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
guarantees the performance characteristics for which M Automobiles are
renowned. The V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology produces
412 kW/560 hp. Its technical wizardry includes a pair of twin-scroll
turbochargers, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Direct
Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-Vanos
continuously variable camshaft control. The 4,395 cc unit keeps peak
torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) on tap between 1,500 and
5,750 rpm, while maximum output is developed between 6,000 and
7,000 rpm. The engine revs to a maximum of 7,200 rpm. The BMW M6 Gran
Coupe sprints from
0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds on the
way to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h/155 mph
(305 km/h/189 mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified).
Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 9.9 litres per
100 kilometres (28.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions are 232 grams per kilometre.

Taking care of power transfer is a seven-speed M Double Clutch
Transmission with Drivelogic. The transmission’s electronic management
system ensures the right gear is selected for optimum traction. It
also offers the driver a Launch Control function for maximum
acceleration, Low Speed Assistance for extra comfort and the Auto
Start-Stop function to enhance efficiency.

Under particularly dynamic acceleration out of corners, as well as in
tricky road and weather conditions, the Active M Differential at the
rear axle distributes the engine’s power between the individual wheels
to maximum traction-enhancing effect. Its electronically controlled
multi-disc limited-slip differential works hand-in-hand with the DSC
(Dynamic Stability Control) system and splits drive between the right
and left rear wheels quickly and precisely according to the situation
at hand.

Chassis technology developed to M specification.

The chassis technology of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is also geared to
harnessing the car’s sporting potential in the cause of supreme
performance. Like the integral rear axle, the double-wishbone front
axle has specific kinematics and components made from forged
aluminium. Chassis mountings using large panels ensure dynamic forces
are passed evenly through to the body. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe comes as
standard with an M-specific version of the Dynamic Damper Control
system and hydraulic variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering with the
M Servotronic function.

As an alternative to the standard high-performance compound braking
system, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe can also be ordered with
M carbon-ceramic brakes. Made from a new type of carbon-fibre compound
ceramic, the discs boast even greater resistance to heat, lower weight
and exceptional resistance to wear.

Arranged around the gearshift lever on the centre console of
the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe are the buttons used to configure all the
adjustable powertrain and chassis functions to personal tastes. The
DSC mode,
engine performance characteristics, Dynamic Damper
Control mapping,
M Servotronic responses and M DCT
Drivelogicshift program can be selected independently of each other.
All of which means the driver can put together a detailed set-up and
store those settings on one of the two M Drive buttons on the
multifunction steering wheel.

Exclusive and individual: high-quality range of equipment.

The standard equipment fitted on the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
includes
20-inch M light-alloy wheels, leather trim, heated
driver and front passenger seats, automatically dimming rear-view and
exterior mirrors, an alarm system and the BMW Professional radio with
hi-fi loudspeakers. Available as an alternative to the standard 2-zone
automatic climate control is a 4-zone system with a control panel in
the rear compartment. Among the other highlights of the options list
are M multifunction seats, heated rear seats, Comfort Access, a heated
steering wheel, the Soft Close Automatic function for the doors,
electrically operated sun blinds, the new generation of the
Professional navigation system and a Bang & Olufsen High End
Surround Sound System.

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe also comes with a variety of BMW ConnectedDrive
features, such as an M-specific BMW Head-Up Display, Park Distance
Control, a rear-view camera, High Beam Assistant, Speed Limit Info,
Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Surround View and BMW
Night Vision with pedestrian recognition. Customers can also integrate
their Apple iPhone or other smartphones into the car and make use of
internet-based services while on board.

Contato de imprensa: Margarida Peres
Tel: 214873000
endereço de e-mail: margarida.peres@partner.bmw.pt

Press Kit,M6,Product,BMW M

Right at the start of the season, the motto is: new rules, new riders and even more powerful machines.</pp:summary>

Munich. One of the factors guaranteeing the success
of the popular racing series is the longstanding cooperation between
BMW M GmbH and MotoGP™ organiser Dorna. BMW M has further
strengthened this close-knit partnership, appointing the new Dorna
MotoGP™ safety consultant Loris Capirossi as the new BMW M
MotoGP™ expert.

The former top-level motorcycle racer from Italy looks back over
extensive experience and boasts a vast knowledge of MotoGP™.
Nicknamed "Capirex" while still an active rider, the Italian
has a highly successful Grand Prix career to his name which stretches
back 22 years, including a total of 328 races and three world
championship titles.

In Loris Capirossi, BMW M has gained the services of an expert with
an in-depth understanding of riders' concerns. He has enormous
expertise in the field of racing competition and a high level of
sensitivity to safety aspects. Based on his extensive know-how,
Capirossi will perform a consultant role as the BMW M MotoGP™
expert for the current world championship series which starts its new
season on the first weekend in April and continues on April 26th 2012
in Jerez (Spain).

"In order to ensure maximum reliability, safety cars have to
function perfectly even under the toughest racing conditions. The
high-performance BMW M vehicles fully meet the requirements that apply
to safety cars on the race track," says Loris Capirossi.

What is more, BMW M will be giving its guests an exciting peek behind
the scenes with the help of the new expert. The ex-world champion will
show invited guests round the MotoGP™ hotspots, taking them to
the team quarters and pits where mechanics and riders put the final
touch on their machines. This kind of tour is undoubtedly one of the
absolute highlights of the new first-class visitor package being
offered by BMW M for the current racing series.

BMW has been involved in the MotoGP™ since 1999 and provides
the official safety cars. In 2006 the partnership was taken over by
BMW M GmbH, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

BMW M automobiles have always embodied the fascination of motor
racing. Sometimes referred to as "the most powerful letter in the
world", M stands for dynamic performance, innovation and
aesthetic appeal in its purest form. The cooperation between BMW M and
Dorna is also founded on these values and has developed into a
trusting and reliable partnership. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna
Sports’, describes the collaboration as "an international
symbol of quality".

Thanks to the support provided by BMW, it has been possible to
significantly enhance the positioning and perception of the motorcycle
road racing world championship. By the same token, BMW M GmbH makes
use of this platform to cultivate top-class international business
relationships, marketing activities and brand communication.

Thomas Schemera, Head of Sales and Marketing with BMW M, says:
"Our involvement in this motor racing event gives us perfect
access to a crucial target group: motorcycle racers with a
predilection for fast cars." And he adds: "The motorcycle
world championship offers fascination, emotion, high-tech and
international flair - all factors which are closely associated with
BMW M. This is another reason why we feel so at home here."

The BMW M GmbH safety cars guarantee safe, reliable race support
during the qualifying rounds and the race itself. In addition to the
safety cars, BMW also provides BMW S 1000 RR safety bikes and various
BMW X models, which are used by the race management and medical
service and also as shuttle vehicles.

In the first half of the season, the new BMW M5 presented last year
at the Grand Prix in Indianapolis/USA will be used as the safety car,
as will the BMW 1 Series M Coupé. They have been optimised
especially for deployment on the race track and for leading a
motorcycle racing field. From the middle of the season, the BMW 1
Series M Coupé will be replaced by the new BMW M6 Coupé.
For further details see: www.bmw-m-safetycar.com

BMW M will also be offering a special MotoGP™ service.
The Event Center in the paddock provides a unique insight into the
world of BMW M, with detailed information on the Grand Prix, riders,
teams and vehicles. An exclusive VIP sales program will also be available.

Finally, the BMW subsidiary will present the BMW M award at the end
of the season. This goes to the rider with the best overall result in
the qualifying rounds. Last year the award went to Casey Stoner, who
was thrilled to receive a BMW 1 Series M Coupé. This year it
will be presented at M Night in Valencia, Spain. The winner can look
forward to a BMW M3 Coupé Competition Edition. The equipment
features of this model include an exclusive exterior paint finish in
Frozen Silver Metallic and a distinctive front design. The
characteristic BMW M front apron and striking exhaust tailpipes
underscore its dynamic appearance. This sporty, elegant styling is
echoed in the interior. Finally, black M3 wheel rims round off the
exclusive special edition.

Contato de imprensa: Margarida Peres
Tel: 214873000
endereço de e-mail: margarida.peres@partner.bmw.pt

Press Release,M6,Coupé,Product,BMW M

Munich. BMW M GmbH has announced the end of
production of the BMW M6 Coupé and the BMW M6 Convertible. The
two high-performance models provide the most exclusive opportunity to
experience on normal roads the hallmark athleticism of M vehicles
combined with drive and chassis technology inspired by the world of
motor racing. In total 14,152 examples of these high-performance
sports cars were built: 9,087 units of the Coupé, which
launched in 2005; and 5,065 Convertible models, presented the
following year.

With the departure of these two fascinating and exceptional athletes
and the already discontinued fourth-generation BMW M5, production will
now also cease for the unique V10 high-rev engine. For years the
373 kW/507 hp powerplant has set the benchmark for
delivering sheer power in cars that are both highly dynamic in
character and symbolic of the outstanding expertise of BMW M GmbH
in developing high-performance engines. For two years in succession,
2005 and 2006, the ten-cylinder unit took overall victory in the
prestigious Engine of the Year Award, and in the two years that
followed achieved first place on each occasion in the category for
engines with displacement above 4 litres.

The stand-out feature of this unique engine, developed exclusively
for the BMW M5 and BMW M6 models, is power delivery that is both
extremely dynamic and smooth even at higher loads. Output is developed
from a 5-litre displacement split between ten combustion chambers,
with the two banks of cylinders cranked at 90 degrees to one another.
The engine delivers maximum output at 7,750 rpm, with engine speed
eventually peaking at 8,250 rpm, and it has maximum torque of 520 Nm.
In addition to the high-rev concept, a number of other technological
details – electronically-controlled individual throttle valves,
an ionic current control system and lateral force-controlled oil
supply – were also directly derived from motor racing.

In much the same way, design principles of chassis technology and
lightweight construction also found their way from the race track to
the road. In the case of the BMW M6 Coupé, for example, carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) – a material that largely owes
its introduction in the automotive sector to Formula One – was
used in both the roof and bumper design. Its power-to-weight ratio of
3.37 kilograms per hp is another unbeatable key indicator in the
profile of the BMW M6 Coupé. Moreover, its outstanding
performance characteristics are additionally supported by seven-speed
SMG Drivelogic and Launch Control for maximum acceleration from a
standing start, the speed-sensitive variable M differential lock, and
model-specific chassis technology, including Electronic Damper Control
(EDC) and compound brakes. Standstill to 100 km/h acceleration time is
a mere 4.6 seconds. The BMW M6 Convertible takes just
0.2 seconds longer, giving the driver time to appreciate not only
the thrilling dynamic performance but also the irresistible flair of
an open-top premium sports car in the luxury class.

The BMW M6 Coupé and BMW M6 Convertible received worldwide
acclaim as dream cars for automotive enthusiasts with sporting
ambitions. The number one market for both models was the US, which
recorded sales of 3,528 closed and 3,247 open-top vehicles, followed
by Germany (1,183 / 541 units). In third position for sales
of the BMW M6 Coupé came Great Britain and Ireland, with
619 vehicle registrations; in the case of the BMW
M6 Convertible it was Canada, with 209 units sold.

Sales of the BMW M5 followed a similar pattern. The United States
once again came out on top, with sales of 8,786 vehicles. Then,
after the domestic market of Germany (2,473 units), Great Britain
and Ireland generated the next highest demand on the continent of
Europe, with 1,980 vehicles. In total the BMW M5 recorded global
sales of over 20,000 cars in under five years, with current figures of
19,494 units for the BMW M5 Saloon and a further
1,009 units for the BMW M5 Touring, available since 2007.

The total combined figures for the fourth-generation BMW M5 exceed
even those of its predecessor model, which was in production for six
years. With that it has secured the current high point in the success
story of the BMW M5, the first generation of which established the
vehicle segment of high-performance saloons at its introduction in 1984.

Contato de imprensa: Margarida Peres
Tel: 214873000
endereço de e-mail: margarida.peres@partner.bmw.pt

Press Release,M6,Product,BMW M
