Munich. The most beautiful, exclusive and fastest vehicles of their respective eras are traditionally assembled at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. This year, the renowned classic car show in the north-east of the US state of Florida provided the perfect setting for the world premiere of particularly fascinating sports cars from the BMW model range. The new edition of the BMW 8 Series and the new BMW M8 models were presented to the public there for the first time. Visitors to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2022 also witnessed the launch of BMW M GmbH’s activities to mark its 50th anniversary.

For the new BMW 8 Series, the tradition-steeped event on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the neighbouring Golf Club of Amelia Island provided the perfect setting in which to showcase its precisely enhanced design and advanced features. The M sports package is now standard in all model variants of the BMW 8 Series Coupé, the BMW 8 Series Convertible and the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé. At the centre of the redesigned vehicle front section is the illuminated “Iconic Glow” BMW kidney grille. The 8-cylinder models also feature aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors in the style of the BMW M8 as standard.

In the interior of all models in the new BMW 8 Series, their equally dynamic and exclusive character is underscored with an extended range of standard equipment including multifunction seats, an M leather steering wheel and other M-specific design features. Optimised ease of use is ensured by the standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a Control Display that has now increased in size to 12.3 inches. “The luxury sports cars of the new BMW 8 Series occupy a prominent position in BMW’s model range. We are delighted to be able to debut these exceptional models at one of the most prestigious automotive events in America,” said Sebastian Mackensen, Head of BMW Group Region Americas and President & CEO BMW North America.

History and the future came together in the BMW M brand’s appearance at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2022. BMW M GmbH showed pioneering models from its past along with the versions of its high-performance sports cars for the luxury segment that will be available from spring 2022. The models BMW M8 Competition Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 11.4 – 11.0 l/100 km according to WLTP, combined CO2 emissions: 260 – 251 g/km), the BMW M8 Competition Cabriolet (combined fuel consumption: 11.6 – 11.2 l/100 km according to WLTP, combined CO2 emissions: 264 – 255 g/km according to WLTP,) and the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 11.6 – 11.2 l/100 km according to WLTP, combined CO2 emissions: 264 - 256 g/km) are now even more impressive with new exterior paint finishes and M light-alloy wheels, the M Shadow Line lights available for the first time and an additional interior trim variant. The operating system of the new BMW M8 models now also includes a 12.3-inch Control Display with touch function.

And the top models of the BMW M GmbH range not only offer fascinatingly vigorous power delivery with their 460 kW/625 hp V8 engine featuring M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving characteristics, they also come with an exceptionally extensive range of standard equipment. This includes a flap-controlled M sports exhaust system, BMW laser light headlights, the BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific display elements and a full Merino/Alcantara leather interior.

With the debut of its latest high-performance models for the luxury segment, BMW M GmbH makes a particularly impressive start to its anniversary year. The BMW Group subsidiary, founded in 1972 as BMW Motorsport GmbH, also contributed to the programme of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2022 with a fascinating look back into its history. A special exhibition showcased 50 milestones from BMW M GmbH’s 50-year model and racing history. This also included an early precursor of the current BMW M8. The prototype of a high-performance sports car with a V12 engine developed by BMW M GmbH in the early 1990s based on the then BMW 8 Series Coupé remained a one-off – and this was only the second time it has been put on show in the USA.

The selection of vehicles that were particularly influential in the development of BMW M GmbH also included a freshly restored example of the BMW M1 dating from 1980, which was the company’s first independently developed model, the BMW V12 LMR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999, and the all-electric BMW iX M60 that is about to be launched on the market (combined power consumption: 24.5 – 21.9 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km).

This unique exhibition of outstanding BMW M models from five decades also included numerous vehicles owned by members of the BMW Car Club of America and from BMW North America’s classic car collection. “The United States is the world’s largest market for BMW M vehicles and we are always amazed and delighted by the passion and dedication that many enthusiasts here invest in their cars, both old and new,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “We feel privileged to be able to celebrate our anniversary in this wonderful place, surrounded by special people and exceptional cars.”

Large-format graffiti, also known as murals in their most artistic form, are an integral part of the street scene in Miami. The city in the south of the Sunshine State is regarded as the centre of Street Art. On the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach (5 - 8 December 2019), BMW is accompanying artists Alexandre Arrechea and Spencer "MAR" Guilburt on a discovery tour to the most remarkable examples of modern mural painting in the metropolis on the Atlantic. The visual artist Arrechea and the street art specialist Guilburt will complete their Mural Tour in a vehicle that is also suitable for adding a visual touch to the streets of any urban conurbation. The elegant BMW M850i xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 - 10.0 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 231 - 228 g/km) is a prime example of advanced automotive engineering and offers a perfect unobstructed view of the bright blue sky, the spectacular architecture of Miami and the many facades of the city embellished by street artists.

As a long-standing global partner of the renowned Art Basel art fair, BMW is once again involved in Miami, for example with a VIP shuttle service and as part of the joint initiative BMW Art Journey and the BMW 8 Series Mural Tour. Alexandre Arrechea and Spencer "MAR" Guilburt cruise the city in the BMW M850i xDrive Convertible in search of the most fascinating murals. In their conversations they exchange artistic similarities and mutual inspiration for their work. In addition to the facades on which Guilburt has immortalised himself with his murals, one of the stops on their tour will be an excursion to an exhibition of Arrecha's works shown at Art Basel Miami Beach by the Nara Roesler gallery. On the Mural Tour through Miami, the BMW M850i xDrive Convertible also shows off its impressive qualities. With its dynamic and elegant appearance, the open four-seater offers the most exclusive way to enjoy driving pleasure in a BMW 8 Series luxury sports car. 15 seconds are all it takes to open or close the classic textile soft top electrically. An extended wheelbase gives the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé generous space at the rear as well as a boost in terms of ride comfort. What is more, the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé combines dynamic lines and athletic proportions with impressive performance properties. In order to give the car's sporting qualities even greater emphasis, a range of model-specific M Performance Parts are available from market launch.

The likewise weight-optimised, forged 20-inch M Performance wheel 763 M in Frozen Gold has a milled M Performance inscription on the rim flange and is supplied as a complete wheel set with sports tyres. The latter boost driving dynamics precision, thereby enhancing the car’s sporty drive feel. It also has a red central marking in the 12 o’clock position as well as a silver-grey, hand crafted cross-stitch seam. BMW LED door projectors are available to replace the standard entry light. In addition to the BMW logo and the BMW M logo, the slide set also includes three different M Performance logos. These can be interchanged at will. The stylish M Performance key holder ensures the key of the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé is excellently protected at all times. At the same time, the material mix of Alcantara and carbon fibre ensures a high-quality feel.

Optimised aerodynamics for an even sportier drive response.
A package of M Performance aerodynamic and exterior components is available for the new BMW 3 Series Touring that consists of six items. While the M Performance exterior mirror caps are offered solely in carbon fibre, the M Performance rear diffuser is available in either carbon fibre or high-gloss black. All other components in the package have an exclusive high-gloss black finish, permanently underscoring the five-door model's sporty appearance. Components such as the M Performance rear spoiler and the M Performance rear diffuser optimise the air flow around the car. This results in reduced uplift and an improved drive response. One particularly attractive feature is the M Performance carbon fibre exterior mirror caps with their characteristic look in motor racing style. The car’s sporty character is further underscored by the M Performance side sill wrapping Frozen Black with M Performance inscription. A distinctive visual accentuation for the exterior is also provided by the M Performance front ornamental grille Iconic Glow: when the vehicle is opened and closed, it lights up the radiator grilles and front area in a unique manner.

The 18-inch M Performance light alloy wheel Double Spoke Styling 796 is weight-optimised, ensuring even further improved driving dynamics in the new BMW 3 Series Touring. Meanwhile, M Performance wheel bags offer optimum protection when transporting and storing the wheels. The brake caliper of the M Performance 18-inch brake system provides a perfect visual match for the light-alloy wheel finished in black matt. At the same time, the sports brake enhances the braking effect in extreme conditions.

The M Performance steering wheel with Alcantara grip area, red central marking at the 12 o’clock position and silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitch seam offers motor racing feeling you can touch. Various carbon fibre components are also available for the interior: the M Performance carbon fibre shift paddles, the M Performance carbon fibre steering wheel trim with Alcantara insert and the M Performance carbon fibre interior trims. The M Performance gear lever knob with Alcantara gaiter is a sporty highlight in the central console that provides distinctive emphasis for the manual transmission. The knob has been completely redesigned in ergonomic style, offering functional grip surfaces and an illuminated shift scheme.

The M Performance floor mats with decorative seam in contrasting colours are another attractive interior feature available for the new BMW 3 Series Touring, while the stainless steel pedal rests and stainless steel footrest likewise underscore the car’s sporty character.

The new BMW 8 Series Coupe is able in a unique way to inspire with its dynamic driving characteristics, whilst at the same time fascinating with luxurious equipment features and a sporty, elegant design. Moreover, maximum exclusiveness is also guaranteed with regard to the individual configuration of the new luxury sports car.
The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition (combined fuel consumption: 9.8 – 9.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 224 – 221 g/km) being launched in the spring of 2019, will provide proof of this. Now, for the first time, the drive and suspension technology of the two-door model, which was developed incorporating motor racing know-how, can now be combined with exclusive BMW Individual exterior and interior equipment features.
The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition will be produced in a limited quantity of 400 at the BMW Dingolfing plant between April and June 2019. 

The exterior paint finish, light alloy wheels and interior trim will lend the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition both an individual and expressive character. The fascinating exterior appearance is above all due to the newly developed BMW Individual special paint finish Frozen Barcelona Blue metallic being applied on a BMW model for the very first time. It is combined with the upgraded BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, which, in addition to the side window surrounds, also includes the BMW kidney grille frame and slats, the air breather applications and tailpipe trims finished in black. The dark accents featured on the special edition model are complemented by 20-inch M light alloy wheels with a Y-spoke design finished in Jet Black. Available optional features also include, inter alia, an M Carbon roof and an M Carbon exterior package.  

The exclusive aura inside the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition is also enhanced by specific BMW Individual design features, a fine selection of colours and materials and particularly high-quality equipment. A special feature offered for the edition models is the BMW Individual full leather trim Merino in the novel colour combination Ivory White/Night Blue. The harmoniously matching interior design features also comprise the M leather-covered steering wheel as well as the BMW Individual Alcantara roof liner, each finished in the colour Night Blue. Inside the car, BMW Individual interior trim strips in a Black Piano finish, which are located in the centre of the cockpit, bear the lettering “First Edition 1/400”. Moreover, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and the Crafted Clarity glass applications on the start/stop button, the iDrive Controller, the volume control and the illuminated gearshift lever complement the luxurious interior ambience.  

The expressive personality of the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition is conveyed by its exterior and interior design and goes hand in hand with outstanding performance characteristics. The special edition model is powered by a 390 kW/530 hp, eight-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The high-torque V8 power plant is combined with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and transfers engine power effortlessly to the road thanks to intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive technology and a suspension setup that is perfectly tuned to the vehicle concept.

The fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions and electric power consumption figures were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany. The range shown considers the different sizes of the selected wheels/tyres and the selected items of optional equipment, and may vary during configuration.

The values are already based on the new WLTP test cycle and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure comparability between the vehicles. With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle-related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO₂ emissions, the CO₂ values may differ from the values stated here (depending on national legislation).

Munich. 24 hours and a great moment: On the eve of the legendary long-distance race at Le Mans, France, BMW will open a new chapter in the brand’s fascinating sports car history. On 15 June 2018, the countdown to the 24-hour Le Mans race will provide the perfect framework for the world premiere of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe. The new luxury sports car was developed parallel to the BMW M8 GTE with which BMW Motorsport will again take to the Le Mans starting grid the next day for the first time since 2011.

In the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 2018, BMW will be fielding two BMW M8 GTEs. These racing cars already demonstrated their potential at the season opener in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, and the US-American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This will now be followed by the debut of the production model, the drive and suspension technology of which benefits tremendously from the experience gained from motor racing.
