• Technische verbeteringen aan de BMW i4 voor een grotere actieradius (tot +31 km). Het gebruik van een nieuwe SiC-omvormer (siliciumcarbide), nieuwe componenten voor vermogenselektronica en andere maatregelen om de efficiëntie te optimaliseren, vergroten het bereik van de BMW i4 aanzienlijk. De capaciteit van de batterij blijft bij elk model hetzelfde.

    eDrive35 stijgt van 483 tot 514 km, +31 km.
    eDrive40 stijgt van 597 tot 613 km, +16 km.
    xDrive40 blijft gelijk met 546 km.
  • De nieuwe BMW i4 M60 xDrive volgt de BMW i4 M50 xDrive op. Het motorvermogen stijgt met 57 pk naar 601 pk en 0 tot 100 km/u wordt nu bereikt in 3,7 seconden (-0,2 seconden t.o.v. M50). De maximale (WLTP) actieradius stijgt van 522 tot 542, +20 km.
    
    
• De digitale sleutel op een smartphone of smartwatch wordt de belangrijkste sleutel op veel BMW-modellen. Deze kan worden verzonden en gedeeld met vrienden (maximaal 18 keer). De nieuwe BMW iX was de eerste die hiervan profiteerde en nu volgt een groot aantal andere modellen.
  
  
• Verlengde garantie voor de hoogspanningsbatterijen voor volledig elektrische BMW-modellen. Een batterijcapaciteit van ten minste 70% is gegarandeerd gedurende maximaal 8 jaar (vanaf de datum van eerste ingebruikname) of 160.000 km, afhankelijk van wat zich het eerst voordoet. Deze nieuwe garantie is vanaf 1 april 2025 van kracht geworden voor alle nieuwe en gebruikte volledig elektrische modellen.

Munich. Summer 2025 is set to bring innovations in electric drive technology and digitalisation as well as new standard and optional equipment features that will make the current BMW model range even more attractive. New power electronics in the all-electric BMW i4 result in even greater efficiency and increased range. The most powerful BMW i4 will also debut at the same time. Numerous BMW models will come as standard with Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key, which has now become even easier to set up.

From summer 2025, the BMW X1, BMW X2 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be available with new exterior and interior options. Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé now includes heated front seats. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now offers an alternative voice.

BMW Digital Key: smartphone used as key enables many additional functions.

The BMW Digital Key will soon become the tool of choice to unlock and lock many BMW models, courtesy of a simplified set-up process. The BMW iX was the first to be updated in March 2025, and many model series will follow from July 2025: the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring, BMW M5, BMW M5 Touring and BMW 7 Series. The BMW X5, BMW X5 M, BMW X6, BMW X6 M, BMW X7 and BMW XM models will follow from August 2025. The BMW X3 will come with the new set-up process in the US from August 2025 and in South Africa from September 2025.

The feature will then include a physical key, a Setup Card and a Service Card. The new Setup Card makes it easier than ever to set up the BMW Digital Key on smartphones from all major manufacturers by simply holding the card to the mobile phone or scanning the QR code on the back. The next step takes the user straight into the My BMW app. After authorisation via the Setup Card, the BMW ID is linked to the vehicle and the BMW Digital Key is then activated. After activation, the customer can easily share the Digital Key with other people by sending them a text message. Activation is possible on up to 18 devices. Owners can define various roles and permissions for each vehicle user. A particularly useful function ideal for novice drivers is limiting acceleration and top speed, for example. If a physical key does need to be handed over, for example in the workshop or in the event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be used. This should always be carried deactivated so it can be activated as a fully-fledged key when needed, via a click on the central display.

More equipment for BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will from summer 2025 be even more comprehensive and include heated front seats and an alarm system. The optional M Technology Package II available for the BMW M135 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 188 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.2 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 185 g/km; CO₂ class G) now includes M seat belts with M colours in the weave.

For all eventualities: tyre repair kit and tyre repair kit Plus.

From summer 2025, the tyre repair kit will come as standard for various BMW models. These include the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 3 Series Touring, BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 4 Series Convertible. The optional tyre repair kit Plus is available for the BMW X3 (excluding the BMW X3 30e xDrive).

Individual paintwork finishes at a glance, in the BMW Configurator.

Customers appreciate the BMW Individual paintwork colours as a way to add a personal touch to their new BMW. Special paintwork finishes which previously required looking up in the BMW Individual Visualiser can now be selected from within the BMW Configurator. This applies to all BMW models except for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

BMW BEV models: free extended warranty for high-voltage batteries.

Since 1 April 2025, BMW has offered a global complimentary extended warranty for the high-voltage batteries in all-electric BMW models. The new warranty applies up to a vehicle age of eight years or a maximum mileage of 160,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. Should a high-voltage battery’s capacity drop below 70 per cent during the warranty period, BMW will remedy this loss of capacity at no extra cost to the customer. This applies to all new and used all-electric BMW models from 1 April 2025.

New colours for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2.

Summer 2025 will bring new exterior and interior options for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2. New paintwork colours include Fire Red metallic and Night Dusk Blue for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as well as Dune Grey metallic for the BMW X2. All three colours are also available for the BMW X1, along with BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. Veganza perforated upholstery in the colours Castanea, Smoke White and Atlas Grey/Smoke White is newly available for customising the interior of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X2. The Castanea and Smoke White colourways are available for the BMW X1. The Econeer Bicolour Blue upholstery can be ordered from summer 2025 in combination with front sport seats only. Another new option is the Brushed Aluminium Shadow interior trim.

More comprehensive equipment for BMW 7 Series, BMW X3 and BMW iX.

The BMW 7 Series and BMW i7 now feature laminated safety glass with contrast print as standard. From summer 2025, comfort glazing, sun protection glazing and the Heat Comfort package will also be available as individual options for the first time, enabling even more specific customisation.

A new equipment option for the BMW X3 is the attractive M door sill trim. It can be ordered for the M Sport package, M Sport package Pro and the BMW X3 M50 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 189 g/km; CO₂ class G).

BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic is a new paintwork finish with a particularly distinctive character, available as an option for the BMW iX from summer 2025.

Comprehensively upgraded BMW iDrive.

Among the numerous innovations in the area of digital services is the upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant in BMW Operating System 9. It now offers customers in Turkey, Greece and Hungary natural-language voice control in their native languages.  

In the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW X3, customers in many countries* can now link their own Amazon Alexa account to the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This enables them to use intuitive voice control to enjoy music via the “Hey BMW” command – courtesy of Alexa running in the background, just like at home. In addition, a second voice is now available for the assistant.** Further improvements in language understanding and faster processing speeds contribute to a more harmonious overall experience.

From summer 2025, BMW Digital Premium with BMW Operating System 9 will, subject to country-specific availability, enable customers to use the Zoom app on their Curved Display for videoconferencing when the vehicle is stationary. To avoid distractions, the app automatically deactivates the video while driving.

Parking Assistant Plus upgrade.

From July 2025, the functions of the Parking Assistant Plus will be enhanced for many BMW models. It will now also use marker lines around parking spots to help identify available spaces and ensure parking precision. Previously, this feature was only available as part of the Parking Assistant Professional.

BMW Maps user interface upgrades in BMW Operating System 8.5.

BMW Maps offers intuitive destination entry and intelligent route guidance and will come with further user interface improvements from summer 2025. For faster access to frequently used functions, the home screen of the control display will feature direct touch buttons for “Home” and “Work” in the BMW Maps QuickSelect Widget, for example.

Rijswijk. BMW M GmbH vernieuwt de high-performance modellen in het luxe Sports Activity Vehicle en Sports Activity Coupé segment met nóg betere prestaties, uitstraling en digitale functionaliteiten. Dankzij upgrades aan - en elektrificatie van - de aandrijflijn geven de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition hun vermogen nog directer af. Ze zijn  uitgerust met een nieuwe V8 benzinemotor met 48V Mild Hybrid technologie en leveren een maximaal vermogen van 460 kW (625 pk). Verfrissende nieuwe accenten in het exterieurdesign benadrukken het dynamische en extravagante uiterlijk van de twee Competition modellen. Ook zijn geavanceerde digitale technologieën geïntegreerd die de functies voor geautomatiseerd rijden, parkeersystemen en bediening optimaliseren, waaronder het nieuwe BMW Curved Display met BMW Operating System 8. De nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition zal beschikbaar zijn voor een consumentenadviesprijs vanaf € 224.302,- en de BMW X6 M Competition vanaf
€ 228.283,-. Beide modellen rollen vanaf april 2023 van de band in de fabriek van BMW Group in Spartanburg (VS). De eerste auto’s verschijnen in juni 2023 op de Nederlandse wegen.

De eerste high-performance modellen van BMW M GmbH met 48V Mild Hybrid technologie.
Met de nieuwe aandrijflijn van de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition wordt voor het eerst 48V technologie geïntroduceerd bij high-performance modellen van BMW M GmbH. In de compacte behuizing van de 8-traps M Steptronic transmissie is een elektromotor geïntegreerd, die tot 9 kW (12 pk) extra vermogen en 200 Nm extra koppel levert en tegelijkertijd werkt als een startmotor op de krukas. De energie daarvoor is afkomstig uit een 48V accu in de motorruimte, die wordt opgeladen met efficiënt teruggewonnen energie die vrijkomt bij het afremmen.

De Mild Hybrid technologie wordt gecombineerd met een nieuwe M TwinPower Turbo V8 benzinemotor. De 4,4 liter motor is nu voorzien van een cross-bank uitlaatspruitstuk, een versterkte krukasaandrijving, geavanceerdere turbocompressoren, een nieuwe luchtinlaat en geoptimaliseerde olietoevoer en -scheiding. Het maximum koppel is 750 Nm tussen de 1.800 en 5.800 toeren per minuut en het maximumvermogen 460 kW (625 pk) bij 6.000 toeren per minuut.

De snelle respons, het hoogtoerige karakter van de V8 motor en de boost van de elektromotor tillen de prestaties naar een hoger niveau waar M modellen om bekend staan. Zowel de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition als de nieuwe BMW X6 M Competition accelereren van 0 naar 100 km/h in 3,9 seconden. Het standaard M Sportuitlaatsysteem met elektrische kleppenregeling maakt de beleving nog dynamischer. Nieuwe katalysatoren optimaliseren daarnaast de emissie van de benzinemotor.

Precieze krachtoverbrenging: nieuwe 8-traps M Steptronic transmissie met Drivelogic, nieuwe variant M xDrive, actief M Sportdifferentieel.
Het motorvermogen wordt overgebracht op een nieuwe variant van de 8-traps M Steptronic transmissie met Drivelogic, met keuze uit drie schakelinstellingen, zowel handmatig als automatisch. Nieuwe functies zijn onder andere een opnieuw afgestelde setup en scherpere schakelreacties.

De kenmerkende prestaties van de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition zorgen voor nog meer beleving dankzij een aangepaste versie van de M xDrive vierwielaandrijving, in combinatie met het actieve M Sportdifferentieel op de achteras. Via het M Setup menu kan de bestuurder wisselen tussen de standaard vierwielaandrijving en de Sport modus, waarmee er meer vermogen naar de achterwielen wordt gestuurd zodat er gecontroleerde drifts kunnen worden uitgevoerd.

Nauwkeurig afgesteld onderstel biedt bijzonder stabiele prestaties.
De carrosseriestructuur en chassisbevestigingen zijn bijzonder stijf ontworpen, waardoor beide modellen de M kenmerkende mix van dynamiek, wendbaarheid en precisie bezitten. Dankzij de wielophanging en demperafstemming bieden ze ook een breed spectrum aan mogelijkheden, van ultieme sportiviteit tot comfort op lange afstanden. Het toespoor op de achteras is aangepast voor nog meer stabiliteit bij hoge snelheden.

Standaard is het Adaptieve M Onderstel Professional, met herziene elektronisch aangestuurde dempers en actieve rolstabilisatie. Een aangepaste versie van de stuurinrichting maakt de M Servotronic nog beter geschikt voor scherp en dynamisch sturen. De M Compound remmen vormen samen de nieuwste generatie van het M specifieke remsysteem, die de bestuurder laat kiezen uit twee pedaalinstellingen.

Waar de M xDrive vierwielaandrijving en het actieve M Sportdifferentieel voorheen alleen verbonden waren met de DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), werken ze nu bij de BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition voor het eerst ook samen met de in het motormanagement geïntegreerde tractiecontrole. Dit zorgt voor nog snellere en preciezere reacties op veranderingen in de rijsituatie en verbeterde tractie.

Ademt exclusiviteit met een nog sprekender karakter.
Sportieve dominantie en een extravert karakter tekenen het exterieurdesign van de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition. Die nieuwe uitstraling is grotendeels te danken aan het design van de voorzijde. Beide modellen hebben nu nieuwe adaptieve LED koplampen met Matrix technologie en de BMW Selective Beam grootlichtassistent. De koplampen zijn 35 millimeter smaller geworden dan bij de voorgaande modellen. Optioneel zijn de koplampen uit te voeren met Shadow Line details. De BMW nierengrille is nu volledig zwart van kleur. De horizontale spijlen en een extra grote modelaanduiding springen in het oog. Daarnaast vormen de BMW nierengrille en de centrale luchtinlaat nu een geheel, als een zwarte X-vorm.

In het zijaanzicht komen de strakke designtaal en de verschillende proporties van de twee modellen duidelijk naar voren. De buitenspiegelkappen en de achterspoiler van de BMW X6 M Competition zijn optioneel leverbaar in carbon. Bij beide modellen loopt een opvallende diffusorinzet langs de onderrand van de achterbumper. Die vormt meteen een verbinding tussen de twee dubbele uitlaateindpijpen die ook andere M modellen sieren. De achterlichten van de BMW X5 M Competition zijn nu voorzien van X-vormige lichtelementen van glasvezel – een spectaculaire designfeature aan de achterzijde.

Beide modellen hebben standaard 21 inch lichtmetalen M wielen voor en 22 inch lichtmetalen M wielen achter. Gesmede lichtmetalen M wielen met dezelfde afmetingen zijn optioneel verkrijgbaar. Ook is er een nieuwe variant, uitgevoerd in Jet Black.

Modern, digitaal, exclusief: M cockpit met BMW Curved Display.
Het hart van de designupdates in het interieur van de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition vormt het BMW Curved Display, dat de M cockpit een moderne en exclusieve uitstraling geeft. Het gebogen glazen scherm bestaat uit een 12,3 inch Info Display achter het stuurwiel en een 14,9 inch groot Control Display. Via de aanraakfunctionaliteit van het Control Display zijn diverse functies digitaal te bedienen, waardoor er aanzienlijk minder fysieke knoppen nodig zijn.

Andere nieuwe accenten zijn de interieurlijsten in edelhoutuitvoering 'Fineline' schwarz hoogglans, de Ambient Light Bar met M logo en het met leder beklede M Sportstuurwiel met nieuwe carbon schakelpaddles. Standaard zijn ook de M multifunctionele stoelen, kneepads, vollederen bekleding Merino en het Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. Het glazen panoramadak Sky Lounge, het Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System en het nieuwe Travel & Comfort Systeem zijn slechts een paar voorbeelden van de beschikbare opties.

Ruimere selectie bestuurdersassistentiesystemen.
Comfort en veiligheid zijn in de nieuwe BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition verder uitgebreid met een breder aanbod aan systemen voor geautomatiseerd rijden en parkeren.

De functies van de standaard Approach Control Warning zijn uitgebreid, waardoor deze nu ook het risico op botsingen met fietsers, voetgangers en tegemoetkomend verkeer verkleint bij het afslaan. Aan de Lane Departure Warning functie is Lane Return met stuurassistentie toegevoegd. Op de optielijst staan nu ook functies als de automatische Speed Limit Assist, de Safe Exit waarschuwingsfunctie, actieve navigatie, verkeerslichtherkenning (niet in alle landen beschikbaar) en de Lane Change Assistant.

Met het nieuwe optionele pakket Parking Assistant Professional is het mogelijk om via de My BMW App op een Apple iPhone in- en uitparkeermanoeuvres geautomatiseerd uit te laten voeren. Ook andere gereden manoeuvres over een afstand tot 200 meter zijn uitvoerbaar. Bestuurders kunnen elke manoeuvre vanuit de BMW activeren, of van daarbuiten terwijl ze de omgeving in de gaten houden.

Welbekend bedieningsconcept, nieuwe digitale diensten.
Het M specifieke bedieningsconcept omvat de Setup knop voor directe toegang tot instellingen voor motor, onderstel, besturing, remsysteem en M xDrive. Welke inhoud op de displays wordt weergegeven kan individueel worden aangepast, net als de hoeveelheid actieve bestuurdersassistentie. Door de M Mode knop op de middenconsole in te drukken kan de bestuurder kiezen tussen de instellingen ROAD, SPORT en TRACK.

Behalve het BMW Curved Display met M specifieke weergave brengt de nieuwste generatie van het BMW Operating System 8 ook nieuwe digitale diensten naar de BMW X5 M Competition en BMW X6 M Competition. Inbegrepen bij de standaard BMW Live Cockpit Professional zijn het BMW Head-up Display en het cloud-gebaseerde BMW Maps navigatiesysteem inclusief Augmented View. Bij stilstand kunnen bestuurder en voorpassagier content van onder andere YouTube streamen via de geïntegreerde app op het Control Display.

Munich. At the end of its anniversary year, BMW M GmbH has once again achieved record results. Global sales of performance and high-performance cars rose to 177,257 vehicles during the 2022 financial year. This represents an increase of 8.4 per cent compared to the previous year, despite the continuing challenging conditions in the area of logistics and supply chains. The most important single market in 2022 was again the USA, with the second most important sales region again being the German domestic market, followed by the UK.

“The enthusiasm of the M community for emotionally powerful performance on the road and on the racetrack has carried us through the entire anniversary year,” says Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. “This is also expressed in a new sales record for BMW M automobiles, which gives us a positive outlook for 2023.”

BMW i4 M50: the best-selling BMW M automobile drives locally emission-free.
At the same time, 2022 marks BMW M GmbH's successful start into the age of electric mobility. “The best-selling BMW M automobile of 2022 is the all-electric BMW i4 M50,” says Timo Resch, Head of Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “For us, this is a clear signal that the unique M feeling has arrived in the world of electrified vehicles.” The BMW i4 M50 is powered by an electric motor on both the front and rear axles, which together generate a maximum output of 400 kW/544 hp. The perfectly coordinated power delivery of the two e-motors and independent suspension tuning ensure an M-typical driving experience characterised by dynamics, agility and precision, which proved to be a real crowd-puller right from the outset.

With the BMW iX M60*, a second all-electric performance car from BMW M GmbH made a highly successful debut. During the course of 2023, BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive with, among other things, the first electrified high-performance automobile, the BMW XM, and the BMW i7 M70, a BMW M automobile based on the fully electric BMW i7. The further transformation towards electric mobility has also already been mapped out. In order to be able to include high-performance cars with purely electric drive in the range in the future, BMW M GmbH will intensify the corresponding concept testing in 2023. The focus will be on an integrated driving dynamics control system and an electric M xDrive all-wheel drive system with four electric motors, which will ensure that the emotionally powerful M feeling reaches an even higher level.

Anniversary year with spectacular premieres, BMW M3 and BMW M4 remain on the road to success, fast-paced launch for the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupe*.
The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of BMW M GmbH were accompanied by debuts for numerous spectacular new models. The broad spectrum of new releases ranged from the second generation of the puristic BMW M2*, with its combination of straight six-cylinder engine, 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, which evokes classic driving pleasure in a high-performance automobile, to the extroverted BMW XM with its 480 kW/653 hp M HYBRID drive. The first BMW M3 Touring* also offers completely new ways to experience M-typical performance. This diversity creates ideal conditions for attracting additional target groups and generating further growth in 2023.

The current increase in sales figures is also based on sales successes in a wide range of vehicle segments. The high-performance sports cars of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 series, which – including the new BMW M3 Touring – are available in four body variants, in two performance levels, with a choice of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, as well as with rear-wheel drive or the all-wheel drive system M xDrive, continued to enjoy particularly widespread popularity in 2022. BMW M GmbH thus covers a wide range of customer needs in this core segment.

With an exceptionally strong performance within their competitive environment, the high-performance cars based on BMW X models also contributed to BMW M GmbH's new sales record. The upcoming upgrade for the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M models in spring 2023 will provide effective impetus for a continuation of this success story.

The successful launch of the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupe in 2022 proved to be a highlight in the performance car segment. The new edition of the compact two-door is powered by a 275 kW/374 hp straight-six engine and is now also available with classic rear-wheel drive. “The new sales record for BMW M Automobiles is based on our successful presence in a broad range of vehicle segments,” says Timo Resch. “With our wide-ranging product portfolio, we are also ideally positioned for the future.”

Premiere at Daytona: the new BMW M3 CS* and the BMW M Hybrid V8.
In addition, BMW M GmbH fulfils the desire for particularly concentrated racing characteristics with attractive special models – as early as 2022 with the BMW M4 CSL* and soon with the new BMW M3 CS.

The BMW M3 CS will make its world debut on the last weekend of January as part of the 24-hour race at Daytona. The tradition-steeped competition in the US state of Florida is also the venue for BMW M Motorsport's comeback to endurance racing. The new BMW M Hybrid V8 will compete there for the first time. 47 years after the Daytona overall victory of the legendary BMW 3.0 CSL, the new LMDh prototype is set to race for points in the IMSA GTP class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship before also competing in the official FIA World Endurance Championship at Le Mans and elsewhere in 2024.

The final phase of the development process and the subsequent test drives on various race tracks were among the highlights of 2022 for the BMW M GmbH motorsport department, while the all-important success on the race track was the overall victory in the DTM drivers' and teams' championships. South African Sheldon van der Linde and Team Schubert Motorsport secured the title win in the prestigious touring car championship in the very first season with the new BMW M4 GT3.

Munich. For the third time in a row, BMW M GmbH ended the financial year as the global market leader in the performance and high-performance car segment. Indeed, the company posted record sales once again in 2021. A total of 163,542 BMW M cars were delivered to customers worldwide last year, a 13 percent increase on 2020.

This growth was spread equally between the High-Performance sports cars and Performance cars made by BMW M GmbH, with both product categories raising their sales figures to a new level. “This success is the perfect start to our anniversary year,” says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “M is in a stronger position than ever as it celebrates its 50th birthday.”

New BMW M3 and new BMW M4 enjoy immediate success.

The biggest drivers of growth among the High-Performance sports cars were the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 models introduced in spring 2021. Fuelled by a vehicle concept focused squarely on emotionally charged dynamism and unprecedented diversity in the model range, the new BMW M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.0 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 231 – 227 g/km as per WLTP), new BMW M4 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.0 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 230 – 226 g/km as per WLTP) and new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 l/100 km [27.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 233 – 231 g/km as per WLTP) got off to an extremely successful start. The latest model generation is the first to offer customers two output levels topping out at 375 kW/510 hp, the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of either a six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

“The response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been simply overwhelming,” reports Timo Resch, Vice President Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “We can therefore expect demand for these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022.”

Also making a powerful contribution to the latest rise in High-Performance model sales at BMW M GmbH were the BMW X5 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.6 – 13.3 l/100 km [20.8 – 21,2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 308 – 303 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km [21.1 – 21.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 305 – 299 g/km as per WLTP). Following the successful market launch of the latest model generation the previous year, the charismatic High-Performance sports cars in the Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segment – both powered by a 460 kW/625 hp V8 engine – increased their sales figures once again in 2021.

Alluring and in demand: the BMW M models in the BMW 4 Series range.

The dynamic excellence, agility and precision for which M is renowned also enabled the brand’s Performance models to delight and excite a wide range of customers over the past year. Credit for the latest boost to sales goes above all to the M models based on the new BMW 4 Series. Particularly popular were the variants of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé, whose line-up consists of the BMW M440i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.1 – 7.4 l/100 km [34.8 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 184 – 167 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW M440i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.5 l/100 km [34.5 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 186 – 170 g/km as per WLTP) powered by a 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, and the BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km [44.8 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 165 – 150 g/km as per WLTP), whose six-cylinder in-line diesel unit produces 250 kW/340 hp.

The latest BMW X models within the ranks of M’s Performance cars also proved extremely desirable. Indeed, the BMW X3 M40i powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with 265 kW/360 hp (fuel consumption combined: 9.5 – 8.8 l/100 km [29.7 – 32.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 216 – 199 g/km as per WLTP) and the BMW X7 M50i (fuel consumption combined: 12.8 – 12.3 l/100 km [22.1 – 23.0 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 292 – 280 g/km as per WLTP) with its 390 kW/530 hp V8 unit both posted an increase in new registrations.

Looking ahead to an anniversary year brimming with highlights.

BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive in this anniversary year with the addition of new High-Performance and Performance models. Highlights include the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) and the arrival later in the year of the first BMW M3 Touring and an exclusive special-edition model based on the new BMW M4 Coupé.

In addition, the BMW Group subsidiary – which was founded as BMW Motorsport GmbH in May 1972 and enjoys the status of an independent manufacturer – will also drive the transformation to electric mobility. Following in the tyre tracks of the BMW i4 M50 (electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km) in the first half of 2022 will be the likewise fully electric BMW iX M60 (projected electric power consumption combined: 24.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The most powerful BMW M model ever made points the way to the future of the brand.

The anniversary year will be crowned by the start of production of the BMW XM. The most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production is also the brand’s first High-Performance model to employ a plug-in hybrid drive system. Its newly developed M Hybrid technology brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The design of the BMW XM majors on presence and extrovert appeal and in so doing sends out a clear statement in the luxury segment.

In augustus 2017 brengt BMW M de ultieme versie van de BMW X5 M en X6 M; de Black Fire Edition. Deze uitvoering wordt wereldwijd in een oplage van 500 stuks gebouwd. Twaalf hiervan zijn aan Nederland toegekend. Beide modellen kosten €200.000 (consumentenadviesprijs).

Het exterieur van de de Black Fire Edition is volledig uitgevoerd in Saphirschwarz metallic. De grille is volledig uitgevoerd in hoogglanszwart evenals de 21 inch lichtmetalen wielen. Daarnaast zijn de spiegelkappen uitgevoerd in carbon.

In het interieur van de X5 M en X6 M Black Fire Edition is grote nadruk gelegd op hoogstaande kwaliteit en exclusiviteit. De M Multifunctionele voorstoelen zijn bekleed met BMW Individual ‘Merino’ lederen bekleding in een unieke combinatie van Schwarz en Mugellorot. De 4,4-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8-motor in deze modellen levert 4 procent meer vermogen, 10 procent meer koppel en laat tegelijk een tot 20 procent lager brandstofverbruik noteren. Het is de krachtigste V8 die BMW ooit in een vierwielaangedreven model heeft geleverd. Dat resulteert in sensationele prestaties, waaronder een acceleratie van 0 tot 100 km/uur in slechts 4,2 seconden. Dynamische BMW M Design-componenten en een achttraps BMW M Steptronic-automaat completeren de uitrusting van deze M-modellen.

BMW M TwinPower Turbo motor.
De BMW X5 M en BMW X6 M worden aangedreven door een nieuwe BMW M TwinPower V8 met een cilinderinhoud van 4,4 liter. De krachtbron is voorzien van twee TwinScroll-turbo’s, die zijn geïntegreerd in een tussen de cilinderbanken geplaatst uitlaatspruitstuk. Deze constructie zorgt voor een snelle respons van de turbo’s bij lage toerentallen. Het maximumkoppel is met 70 Nm toegenomen tot 750 Nm; een winst van 10 procent. De grote trekkracht is beschikbaar over een zeer breed toerengebied, namelijk tussen de 2.200 en 5.000 t/min. Tegelijkertijd ligt het gemiddelde brandstofverbruik en de CO2-uitstoot van de nieuwe BMW X5 M en BMW X6 M maar liefst 20 procent lager dan voorheen. Het verbruik is gedaald van 13,9 naar 11,1 l/100 km en de CO2-emissie ligt nu op 258 g/km.

Krachtig design en exlusieve uitrusting.
De nieuwe BMW X5 M en BMW X6 M ogen daadkrachtig en stoer, omdat de carrosserie volledig in één kleur is uitgevoerd. Ook de M-bumper met grotere luchtinlaten en de verbrede dorpels dragen bij aan het indrukwekkende voorkomen. Andere elementen zijn de door M Design geaccentueerde luchtinlaten en de speciale buitenspiegels. De achterzijde wordt gekenmerkt door een M-uitlaat met vier eindpijpen. De BMW X6 M is uitgerust met een exclusieve M Design-dakspoiler. De lichtmetalen 20-inch M Design-wielen maken het beeld compleet. Als optie zijn gesmede lichtmetalen 21-inch wielen leverbaar.

Het interieur wordt gekenmerkt door diverse sportieve features, exclusieve materialen en sublieme afwerking. Opvallende elementen zijn onder meer het instrumentenpaneel, het met leder beklede M Sportstuur, de aluminium schakelpeddels en de speciale schakelhendel van M Design. Ook de elektrisch verstelbare M sportstoelen zijn uniek voor de BMW X5 M en BMW X6 M, evenals de M Design-voetsteun. De optionele Head-Up Display biedt enkele extra features, waaronder toerental en versnelling- en schakelindicatie. Verder zijn er unieke opties, zoals een volledig in Merino-leder uitgevoerd interieur, multifunctionele M-stoelen en twee nieuwe M-lakkleuren: Donington Grau metallic en Long Beach Blau metallic.

Munich. More driving pleasure, reduced emissions: this principle of the development strategy BMW EfficientDynamics applies equally at the very highest level of performance. As of spring 2010, the high-performance model BMW M3 consistently combines its outstanding driving performance figures with further reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emission levels. The range of BMW EfficientDynamics measures fitted as standard in the models BMW M3 Coupé, BMW M3 Convertible and BMW M3 Sedan is now to be supplemented with the Auto Start Stop Function. This reduces the average fuel consumption and CO2 levels of the BMW M3 by up to 8 per cent or 24 grams of CO2 per kilometre. In order to further hone the outstandingly sporty profile of the model there will also be a Competition Package available as of spring 2010.

The range of driver assistance systems optionally available for the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M will also be extended in spring 2010. Both models can now be fitted with the functions Side View and Speed Limit Info. The remainder of the BMW M GmbH portfolio will likewise feature new offers. Directly at the market launch of the new BMW X5, a newly configured M Sports Package will be available for the Sports Activity Vehicle. The new BMW 3 Series Coupé and the new BMW 3 Series Convertible can also be upgraded from the start with an M Sports Package. An M Sports Package, also designed for the specific model in question, is part of the equipment range of the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring in the Edition Sport. For the launch of the Z4 sDrive35, the M Sports Package for the BMW Z4 is offered for all the other versions of the roadster, too. The BMW Individual range will also be further refined. Especially exclusive equipment options are already available at the market launch, also for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Auto Start Stop Function for the BMW M3 - for the first time in conjunction with a dual clutch transmission.

The BMW M3 achieves its outstanding performance with impressive efficiency. Its 4.0 litre V8 high-revving engine mobilises 309 kW/420 bhp, enabling superior acceleration response due to its unique propulsion. In addition to its fascinating performance characteristics, the 8-cylinder engine - developed exclusively for the BMW M3 - is characterised by an unusually high degree of efficiency. Additional efficiency potential is now tapped into with the Auto Start Stop Function. This helps the drive avoid idling phases when stopping at junctions or in congested traffic. In order to prevent unnecessary fuel consumption the engine is switched off when the vehicle comes to a halt. As soon as the driver wishes to continue driving, the engine is re-activated without delay.

The Auto Start Stop Function is used both in vehicles with standard 6-speed manual transmission and in conjunction with the M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic. The BMW M3 is thus the first model - along with the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 - to use this efficiency-enhancing measure in combination with an automated manual transmission.

The increase in efficiency brought about by the Auto Start Stop Function is up to 8 per cent of 24 grams of CO2 per kilometre, depending on the model and transmission type. For example, the BMW M3 Coupé with 7-speed M dual clutch transmission and Drivelogic powered by a V8 high-revving engine with 309 kW/420 bhp now achieves an average fuel consumption on the EU test cycle of 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres (6-speed manual transmission: 12.4 litres). The same figures apply to the BMW M3 Sedan. In the case of the BMW M3 Convertible, the average fuel consumption is reduced to 11.5 litres (M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic) or 12.7 litres (6-speed manual transmission) per 100 kilometres. All versions of the BMW M3 will also meet the exhaust emission norm EU5 in future.

Modified rear lights with glass covers in a homogeneous red colour provide an additional visual accentuation in the BMW M3 Coupé and the BMW M3 Convertible. With two harmoniously illuminating light banks fed by LED units, they create a characteristic nocturnal design.

New for the BMW M3: Competition Package and retrofit options.

The Competition Package, available for the Coupé and the Sedan, and the retrofit options from the range of Original BMW Accessories specially developed for the M3 are just two possible ways of individualising the sports car. With a suspension lowered by some 10 mm and light alloy wheels in the size 9 x 19 inches at the front and Y-spoke design at the rear, the Competition Package provides further optimised longitudinal and transverse dynamics. In addition, the control of the electronic damper adjustment function EDC including a Sport mode specially developed for the Competition Package has been precisely adjusted to the chassis modifications by means of map-based control and the driving stability control function DSC.

The new range of items from the Original BMW Accessories program available for the BMW M3 provides an even more intense driving experience. Retrofit options designed for this model are specifically geared towards increasing dynamic performance and driving pleasure. For example a rear spoiler and front apron flaps in carbon will be available from spring 2010. As well as perfectly matching the Competition Package the aerodynamically optimised components further reduce lift force, thereby increasing the driving dynamics potential of the BMW M3.

Innovative driver assistance systems for the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M.

Additional equipment options are also available for the models BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M as of spring 2010. The two top sports cars in the segment of the BMW X models can now be fitted with such features as the driver assistance systems Side View and Speed Limit Info. The Side View system comprises two cameras integrated in the side of the front bumpers, which means that intersecting traffic can be observed. The images from these cameras are shown on the Control Display of the operating system iDrive, providing an advance view of the road situation to the left and right of the vehicle when coming out of blind exits such as narrow driveways or multi-storey car parks, for example. Speed Limit Info gives the driver the possibility of finding out about speed restrictions on the current route. Here, a camera is installed on the windscreen in the area of the interior mirror which permanently monitors signs at the roadside as well as the variable displays on overhead gantries on motorways, comparing this information with the data from the navigation system. The figure thus obtained is displayed by means of a symbol on the instrument panel or in the Head-Up Display, as required.

Newly designed rear lights with especially narrow bands of light in the reversing lamps provide an enhanced sense of width in the BMW X5 M. Their homogeneously luminous light banks fed by LED also create a nocturnal design which is characteristic of the brand. They are now also fitted with dynamic LED brake lights which flash in the event of particularly intense deceleration, thereby providing a warning signal for drivers to the rear.

M Sport Package for the new BMW X5.

At the 2010 Geneva Automobile Salon the M Sport Package will also be presented for the new BMW X5. It offers ideal ways of experiencing the enhanced sporty qualities of this Sports Activity Vehicle even more intensely and expressing these strikingly in terms of design. The M Sport Package is made up of exterior, interior and chassis components which underscore the dynamic potential of the BMW X5. Larger air inlets in the front apron give the vehicle a particularly powerful appearance. A high-speed set-up and sporty suspension settings emphasise the dynamic character of the vehicle, as do the 19-inch M light alloy rims in V-spoke design. As an alternative, M light alloy wheels in 20-inch format are optionally available, either in two colours or in burnished finish. In both instances, a special mixed tyre selection is used on the front and rear axle which is designed specially for the BMW X5. Even in the 6-cylinder versions, the tailpipes of the exhaust system bear the contours characteristic of V8 engines.

In addition to the M Aerodynamics Package and the M entry strips, the BMW Individual Exterior Line in satinised aluminium design for the surrounds of the side windows and the BMW Individual roof railing in high gloss Shadow Line ensure an unmistakable visual appearance. In the interior, sports seats for driver and passenger, the M leather steering wheel, M driver footrest, the interior strips in fine lengthwise brushed aluminium design and the anthracite-coloured BMW Individual roof liner optimise the driving experience in the BMW X5.

Stylish and exclusive: new BMW Individual options.

Supplements to the BMW Individual product portfolio round off the list of new items in the range of BMW M GmbH. For the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, too, there is the option to add an unmistakable touch with stylish and exclusive options from the BMW Individual program directly at the market launch. The range specially developed for the Sedan includes the BMW Individual high gloss Shadow Line, the BMW Individual Exterior Line in satinised aluminium design, an anthracite-coloured BMW Individual roof liner and BMW Individual reading lights at the rear.

The new BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Grey will be available for all models of the BMW 6 Series. The surrounds of the monitors of the optional rear entertainment systems for the BMW 7 Series are now available in a finish which matches the colour of the BMW Individual full leather trim. What is more, the side rear monitor panels can be covered with BMW Individual Merino leather if requested specifically by the customer. The long version of the BMW 7 Series can be additionally fitted with fold-out tables integrated in the backs of the driver and front passenger seats. The storage surfaces for the fold-out tables available for the long version of the BMW 7 Series can be covered in soft nappa leather or in BMW Individual leather on request, thus offering additional comfort in the use of external entertainment or communication devices. As well as enhancing the overall travel experience, this also extends the range of functions of the luxury sedan when used as a mobile office.

With the current new items in its model program and the further extended product range, BMW M GmbH has created an ideal basis for the continuation of its successful business development. Enthusiasm for exclusive high-performance vehicles in the premium segment continues unabated in automobile markets throughout the world. Current sales figures indicate a dynamic start to the year 2010 for BMW M GmbH. 1,146 BMW M automobiles were sold worldwide in January 2010 alone. This is an increase of 7 per cent over the previous year. “The new models BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M have made a key contribution to this positive trend,” explains Dr. Kay Segler, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. "With their very successful launch they have even made up for the end of the production cycle of the BMW M5 Sedan, which has been one of the cornerstones of BMW M automobile sales up to now.” Particularly significant sales increases were achieved in January 2010 in the European markets of Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, as well as in China, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East.
