München. Veiligheid is altijd een kernpunt geweest in de ontwikkeling van MINI. De vele vijfsterrenbeoordelingen in de Euro NCAP-crashtests zijn daar het overtuigende bewijs van. Centraal staat een consequent doorontwikkeld veiligheidsconcept van het hoogste niveau, dat direct af-fabriek een uitzonderlijk hoge mate van bescherming biedt.

Geïntegreerde veiligheid bij MINI: sensoren, camera’s en radarsystemen werken samen
De integratie van tot wel twaalf ultrasone sensoren, vijf camera’s en vijf radarsystemen vormt de technologische basis voor een breed scala aan rijassistentiesystemen en veiligheidsfuncties. Alle modellen van MINI zijn standaard uitgerust met een uitgebreid pakket aan actieve veiligheidsvoorzieningen. Deze systemen ondersteunen de bestuurder door potentieel gevaarlijke situaties vroegtijdig te signaleren en helpen idealiter om ongevallen volledig te voorkomen.

Tot de standaarduitrusting behoren Lane Departure Warning met actieve stuurcorrectie, Front Collision Warning met nadering- en remingreep, ook bij afslaan en in complexe kruissituaties, continue informatie over geldende snelheidslimieten en cruise control met remfunctie. Daarnaast zijn alle varianten van MINI voorzien van de Driving Assistant, met functies als Lane Change Warning met botsingswaarschuwing in de dode hoek, Exit Warning, Rear Collision Warning voor naderende voertuigen en Rear Cross Traffic Warning ter ondersteuning bij het veilig achteruitrijden uit parkeervakken.

MINI Pre‑Crash-technologieën: inzittendenbescherming vóór een ongeval geactiveerd
De integrale veiligheid in de huidige modellen van MINI omvat ook intelligente Pre-Crash-functies die de auto actief voorbereiden op een mogelijke aanrijding. Op basis van uitgebreide rijgegevens, sensoren en omgevingsinformatie herkent het systeem kritieke situaties vroegtijdig en zet gerichte, omkeerbare beschermingsmaatregelen in gang. Denk hierbij aan het automatisch sluiten van ramen en schuifdaken en het anticiperend positioneren van de rugleuningen van de stoelen.

Door deze preventieve interactie verhoogt MINI de inzittendenbescherming al vóórdat een ongeval plaatsvindt. Zo biedt elke MINI standaard een hoog niveau van actieve veiligheid – zowel in de stad als daarbuiten.

Voor alle modellen van de MINI Cooper familie, de MINI Aceman en de MINI Countryman is optioneel Driving Assistant Plus beschikbaar. Hiermee wordt gedeeltelijk geautomatiseerd rijden mogelijk, met functies als Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Adaptive Cruise Control met Stop & Go-functie en de automatische Speed Limit Assistant. Het radar- en cameragestuurde systeem ondersteunt de bestuurder bij het aanhouden van rijstrook, afstand en snelheid.

Met de Driving Assistant Professional breidt de MINI Countryman dit aanbod verder uit met extra veiligheids- en comfortfuncties, zoals de Lane Change Assistant en Active Lane Guiding. Bij actieve routegeleiding waarschuwt het systeem voor naderende rijstrookwissels of afritten. Na het activeren van de richtingaanwijzer ondersteunt de auto de rijstrookwissel door de snelheid aan te passen en het stuur subtiel naar de desbetreffende rijstrook te bewegen, inclusief stabilisatie. Extra functies zijn onder meer zijdelingse botsingsbescherming op de snelweg en verkeerslichtherkenning voor gebruik in de stad.

Met deze combinatie van standaard- en optionele functies wordt een nieuw niveau van rijassistentie bereikt. MINI koppelt een hoge mate van veiligheid aan extra comfort en gebruiksgemak.

MINI parkeersystemen: precisie en veiligheid in de stad
Het aanbod aan functies voor veilig en ontspannen rijden wordt aangevuld met geavanceerde parkeersystemen. Af-fabriek ondersteunen functies van de Parking Assistant, zoals de assistant voor parkeermanoeuvres, achteruitrijassistentie, Active Park Distance Control en de achteruitrijcamera, bij veilig en zelfverzekerd manoeuvreren. Afhankelijk van het model zijn er optioneel nog uitgebreidere systemen beschikbaar.

Binnen de Parking Assistant Plus genereren vier surround-view camera’s een 360-gradenbeeld van de omgeving van het voertuig, te gebruiken voor zowel de Anti-Theft Recorder als voor bijzonder nauwkeurig parkeren. Met de Parking Assistant Professional is zelfs op afstand parkeren via smartphone en de MINI App mogelijk.

Passieve veiligheid bij MINI: carrosseriestructuur, airbags en gordelsystemen
Alle huidige modellen van MINI zijn standaard uitgerust met een uitgebreid pakket aan passieve veiligheidsvoorzieningen, die effectieve bescherming bieden bij frontale, zij- en achteraanrijdingen. Een bijzonder stijve carrosseriestructuur, nauwkeurig gedefinieerde kreukelzones en moderne gordelsystemen vormen de basis voor het hoge veiligheidsniveau.

Afhankelijk van model en markt zijn tot negen adaptieve voor- en zijairbags beschikbaar. In onder andere Nederland is de MINI Countryman bijvoorbeeld standaard uitgerust met zeven airbags, waaronder een centrale airbag die de bescherming van beide voorstoelen verhoogt. De MINI Cooper-familie en de volledig elektrische MINI Aceman beschikken bovendien over twee zijairbags op de tweede zitrij.

Een belangrijk onderdeel van de passieve veiligheid is het gordelsysteem. MINI combineert adaptieve krachtbegrenzers en automatische gordelspanners tot een fijn afgestemd geheel dat zich aanpast aan verschillende botsingsscenario’s. In de volledig elektrische modellen van de MINI Cooper en de MINI Aceman worden ook gordelspanners op de gespen gebruikt, wat de fixatie in het bekkengebied verbetert. Een andere belangrijke veiligheidsvoorziening is de Seat Belt Reminder, die standaard op alle zitplaatsen is geactiveerd. Ook de tweede zitrij is voorzien van krachtbegrenzers en automatische gordelspanners.

Voor vrijwel alle modellen van MINI omvat het uitgebreide veiligheidsconcept ook een actieve motorkap. Bij een aanrijding met een voetganger wordt de motorkap gericht omhoog gebracht om het risico op letsel te verkleinen.

De veiligheidsbelofte van MINI: standaard in alle modellen en onafhankelijk bevestigd
De intelligente combinatie van carrosseriestructuur, moderne airbag- en gordeltechnologie en doordachte beschermingssystemen voor alle inzittenden, samen met talrijke rijassistentiesystemen, weerspiegelt de hoge veiligheidsnormen van MINI. De herhaalde vijfsterrenbeoordelingen van Euro NCAP benadrukken deze consequente ontwikkelingsaanpak.

Euro NCAP safety rating: The new BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer receive top 5-star rating.

European Consumer Protection Institute awards both premium compact models the top rating. New centre airbag reduces the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact. New generation of front collision warning can also protect pedestrians and cyclists when making turns.

Munich. The current new editions of the BMW X1 and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are characterised by offering versatile driving pleasure. The fact that the progress associated with the generation change also leads to an increase in active and passive safety has now been confirmed in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). The independent safety experts of the European Consumer Protection Institute awarded both the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and the modern all-rounder in the premium compact segment the highest rating of 5 stars. In the demanding test procedure, the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer stood out thanks to their excellent occupant protection in collisions of various types, effective protection for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as effective accident avoidance systems.

The extensive standard equipment featuring safety-relevant driver assistance systems decisively contributed to the 5-star rating. Above all, the latest generation of front collision warning with braking function provides an additional plus in safety in urban traffic. It can now also detect pedestrians and cyclists approaching parallel to the lane from behind or in front when turning right, effectively helping to avoid a collision with weaker road users. In addition, the new system warns of oncoming traffic when turning left. All of the driver assistance systems used in the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are among the best on the market and impressed the Euro NCAP safety experts with their range of functions and reliable level of response.

The new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer convinced the experts with their innovative systems in the area of passive safety. Both models feature a centre airbag between the driver and front passenger seats as standard. This system, used for the first time in BMW models in the compact segment, was rated to be extremely effective in the test. It is the latest component of the BMW integrated safety concept, which is being advanced constantly and which, in addition to highly resilient support structures and precisely designed deformation paths, also includes a model-specific combination of precisely coordinated restraint systems.

In various collision tests, this integrated safety concept proved to guarantee a high level of protection against injury at all times in both models, regardless of the size and seating position of the occupants.  In both the front and rear seats, the headrests and seats of the new BMW X1 and the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer effectively protect against cervical injuries that can be triggered by a rear-end collision, according to Euro NCAP. In addition, the test experts highlighted the standard equipment featured by both models with the intelligent emergency call and an emergency braking system for avoiding secondary collisions.

To reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians and cyclists, the new BMW X1 and new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer feature active engine compartment lids. In the event of an impact, the engine compartment lids are raised by means of pyrotechnic actuators to create additional deformation space between them and the hard components underneath. The system proved to be reliable and effective at different speeds in the Euro NCAP safety test.

The ratings of the Euro NCAP testing institute are a benchmark for accident safety recognised Europe-wide and the safety level is being raised constantly. Only new vehicles that offer excellent impact protection and are also well equipped with comprehensive and practical technology for accident avoidance receive the highest rating of 5 stars.

All data on mileage, fuel and electricity consumption, CO₂ emissions and electric range are provisional values.

Fuel consumption, CO₂ emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures are already calculated on the basis of the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related levies that are (also) based on CO₂ emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Munich. With its purely electric drive and comprehensive range of digital features, the BMW iX represents a new era in individual mobility. In addition, it operates at the highest level of safety. This is according to the experts of the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) – the consumer protection institute specialising in automotive safety – who awarded the BMW iX the highest possible rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP safety assessment. During the course of the test programme, which was further intensified in 2020, the BMW Group’s new technology flagship impressed with both its outstanding occupant protection and its advanced driver assistance systems, which are particularly effective in helping to prevent accidents.

The BMW iX achieved five-star ratings in all test categories of the Euro NCAP crash test. In the assessment of adult occupant protection, the testers highlighted among other features the effectiveness of the new interactive airbag between the driver and front passenger seats, which provides additional protection against injury in the event of a side collision. Child safety in the rear of the BMW iX was also given the highest possible score for both frontal and side collisions.

Meanwhile, the integrated safety concept of the BMW iX ensures the highest level of passenger protection. In addition to precisely coordinated restraint systems, this includes highly resilient support structures and precisely designed deformation zones that absorb the impact of a collision and keep it away from the passenger compartment. The body structure of the BMW iX combines an aluminium spaceframe concept with a carbon cage for the passenger compartment. Particularly torsion-resistant components made of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) are used in the roof, side and rear sections of the BMW iX.

“The BMW iX sets new standards in sustainability, and its top rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP underlines the vehicle’s comprehensive sustainability concept,” says Dominik Schuster, Head of Vehicle Safety BMW. “The extremely stable body structure and the extended range of restraint systems ensure an outstanding level of occupant protection. In addition, the BMW iX scores highly both in the test programme and in everyday driving with innovative driver assistance systems that significantly reduce the risk of accidents in a wide array of situations.” Among other features, the BMW iX has a front collision warning system with brake intervention that can detect pedestrians and cyclists as well as vehicles. In addition, the automatic emergency braking system now also reacts in turning situations, helping to minimise the risk to pedestrians when turning and the risk of collision with oncoming traffic when turning left.

If a collision does occur, the risk of injury to vulnerable road users is reduced by carefully designed body elements and flexible structures at the front of the vehicle. The BMW iX also features an active bonnet, which is raised by means of a pyrotechnical triggering mechanism as soon as the data collected by sensors indicate a corresponding collision. This creates a deformation zone that prevents direct impact between the pedestrian or cyclist and hard components in the engine compartment.

Other standard features of the BMW iX include an attention assistant, lane departure warning and speed limit recognition, all of which scored positively in the Euro NCAP crash test. The Driving Assistant Professional package is offered as an option, which also includes steering and lane guidance assistance. In a separate assessment, BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional in the iX3 was also recently awarded the top rating of “very good” by Euro NCAP.

The figures for fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, power consumption and range are measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the automotive market in Germany. For ranges, the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.
