• Technische verbeteringen aan de BMW i4 voor een grotere actieradius (tot +31 km). Het gebruik van een nieuwe SiC-omvormer (siliciumcarbide), nieuwe componenten voor vermogenselektronica en andere maatregelen om de efficiëntie te optimaliseren, vergroten het bereik van de BMW i4 aanzienlijk. De capaciteit van de batterij blijft bij elk model hetzelfde.
  
  
  • De maximale (WLTP) actieradius van de BMW i4 
    
    eDrive35 stijgt van 483 tot 514 km, +31 km.
    eDrive40 stijgt van 597 tot 613 km, +16 km.
    xDrive40 blijft gelijk met 546 km.
  • De nieuwe BMW i4 M60 xDrive volgt de BMW i4 M50 xDrive op. Het motorvermogen stijgt met 57 pk naar 601 pk en 0 tot 100 km/u wordt nu bereikt in 3,7 seconden (-0,2 seconden t.o.v. M50). De maximale (WLTP) actieradius stijgt van 522 tot 542, +20 km.
    
    
• De digitale sleutel op een smartphone of smartwatch wordt de belangrijkste sleutel op veel BMW-modellen. Deze kan worden verzonden en gedeeld met vrienden (maximaal 18 keer). De nieuwe BMW iX was de eerste die hiervan profiteerde en nu volgt een groot aantal andere modellen.
  
  
• Verlengde garantie voor de hoogspanningsbatterijen voor volledig elektrische BMW-modellen. Een batterijcapaciteit van ten minste 70% is gegarandeerd gedurende maximaal 8 jaar (vanaf de datum van eerste ingebruikname) of 160.000 km, afhankelijk van wat zich het eerst voordoet. Deze nieuwe garantie is vanaf 1 april 2025 van kracht geworden voor alle nieuwe en gebruikte volledig elektrische modellen.

Munich. Summer 2025 is set to bring innovations in electric drive technology and digitalisation as well as new standard and optional equipment features that will make the current BMW model range even more attractive. New power electronics in the all-electric BMW i4 result in even greater efficiency and increased range. The most powerful BMW i4 will also debut at the same time. Numerous BMW models will come as standard with Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key, which has now become even easier to set up.

From summer 2025, the BMW X1, BMW X2 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be available with new exterior and interior options. Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé now includes heated front seats. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now offers an alternative voice.

BMW Digital Key: smartphone used as key enables many additional functions.

The BMW Digital Key will soon become the tool of choice to unlock and lock many BMW models, courtesy of a simplified set-up process. The BMW iX was the first to be updated in March 2025, and many model series will follow from July 2025: the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW 5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring, BMW M5, BMW M5 Touring and BMW 7 Series. The BMW X5, BMW X5 M, BMW X6, BMW X6 M, BMW X7 and BMW XM models will follow from August 2025. The BMW X3 will come with the new set-up process in the US from August 2025 and in South Africa from September 2025.

The feature will then include a physical key, a Setup Card and a Service Card. The new Setup Card makes it easier than ever to set up the BMW Digital Key on smartphones from all major manufacturers by simply holding the card to the mobile phone or scanning the QR code on the back. The next step takes the user straight into the My BMW app. After authorisation via the Setup Card, the BMW ID is linked to the vehicle and the BMW Digital Key is then activated. After activation, the customer can easily share the Digital Key with other people by sending them a text message. Activation is possible on up to 18 devices. Owners can define various roles and permissions for each vehicle user. A particularly useful function ideal for novice drivers is limiting acceleration and top speed, for example. If a physical key does need to be handed over, for example in the workshop or in the event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be used. This should always be carried deactivated so it can be activated as a fully-fledged key when needed, via a click on the central display.

More equipment for BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Standard equipment for the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will from summer 2025 be even more comprehensive and include heated front seats and an alarm system. The optional M Technology Package II available for the BMW M135 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 188 g/km; CO₂ class G) and the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.2 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 185 g/km; CO₂ class G) now includes M seat belts with M colours in the weave.

For all eventualities: tyre repair kit and tyre repair kit Plus.

From summer 2025, the tyre repair kit will come as standard for various BMW models. These include the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 3 Series Touring, BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 4 Series Convertible. The optional tyre repair kit Plus is available for the BMW X3 (excluding the BMW X3 30e xDrive).

Individual paintwork finishes at a glance, in the BMW Configurator.

Customers appreciate the BMW Individual paintwork colours as a way to add a personal touch to their new BMW. Special paintwork finishes which previously required looking up in the BMW Individual Visualiser can now be selected from within the BMW Configurator. This applies to all BMW models except for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

BMW BEV models: free extended warranty for high-voltage batteries.

Since 1 April 2025, BMW has offered a global complimentary extended warranty for the high-voltage batteries in all-electric BMW models. The new warranty applies up to a vehicle age of eight years or a maximum mileage of 160,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. Should a high-voltage battery’s capacity drop below 70 per cent during the warranty period, BMW will remedy this loss of capacity at no extra cost to the customer. This applies to all new and used all-electric BMW models from 1 April 2025.

New colours for BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2.

Summer 2025 will bring new exterior and interior options for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW X1 and BMW X2. New paintwork colours include Fire Red metallic and Night Dusk Blue for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer as well as Dune Grey metallic for the BMW X2. All three colours are also available for the BMW X1, along with BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. Veganza perforated upholstery in the colours Castanea, Smoke White and Atlas Grey/Smoke White is newly available for customising the interior of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X2. The Castanea and Smoke White colourways are available for the BMW X1. The Econeer Bicolour Blue upholstery can be ordered from summer 2025 in combination with front sport seats only. Another new option is the Brushed Aluminium Shadow interior trim.

More comprehensive equipment for BMW 7 Series, BMW X3 and BMW iX.

The BMW 7 Series and BMW i7 now feature laminated safety glass with contrast print as standard. From summer 2025, comfort glazing, sun protection glazing and the Heat Comfort package will also be available as individual options for the first time, enabling even more specific customisation.

A new equipment option for the BMW X3 is the attractive M door sill trim. It can be ordered for the M Sport package, M Sport package Pro and the BMW X3 M50 xDrive (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.3 litres/100 km; CO₂ emissions 189 g/km; CO₂ class G).

BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic is a new paintwork finish with a particularly distinctive character, available as an option for the BMW iX from summer 2025.

Comprehensively upgraded BMW iDrive.

Among the numerous innovations in the area of digital services is the upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant in BMW Operating System 9. It now offers customers in Turkey, Greece and Hungary natural-language voice control in their native languages.  

In the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW X3, customers in many countries* can now link their own Amazon Alexa account to the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This enables them to use intuitive voice control to enjoy music via the “Hey BMW” command – courtesy of Alexa running in the background, just like at home. In addition, a second voice is now available for the assistant.** Further improvements in language understanding and faster processing speeds contribute to a more harmonious overall experience.

From summer 2025, BMW Digital Premium with BMW Operating System 9 will, subject to country-specific availability, enable customers to use the Zoom app on their Curved Display for videoconferencing when the vehicle is stationary. To avoid distractions, the app automatically deactivates the video while driving.

Parking Assistant Plus upgrade.

From July 2025, the functions of the Parking Assistant Plus will be enhanced for many BMW models. It will now also use marker lines around parking spots to help identify available spaces and ensure parking precision. Previously, this feature was only available as part of the Parking Assistant Professional.

BMW Maps user interface upgrades in BMW Operating System 8.5.

BMW Maps offers intuitive destination entry and intelligent route guidance and will come with further user interface improvements from summer 2025. For faster access to frequently used functions, the home screen of the control display will feature direct touch buttons for “Home” and “Work” in the BMW Maps QuickSelect Widget, for example.

Rijswijk. Het zijn pioniers in de premium middenklasse, met een bijzondere combinatie van esthetiek, rijplezier, elektrificatie en digitalisering. Met doelgerichte upgrades op al deze facetten bouwen de nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé voort aan hun unieke status. Nieuwe carrosseriekleuren en lichtmetalen wielen, opvallende Adaptieve LED-koplampen en de optionele achterlichten met laser technologie accentueren de gedurfde visuele impact van de twee modellen.

Vanbinnen vormt het BMW Curved Display het ideale podium voor de nieuwste evolutie van BMW iDrive met QuickSelect, op basis van BMW Operating System 8.5. Het systeem is optioneel leverbaar met Augmented View weergave voor het BMW Maps navigatiesysteem. Het geüpdatete dashboard en de nieuwe stuurwielen, interieurlijsten en bekledingen zijn andere opvallende zaken in het interieur.

De nieuwe BMW i4 en nieuwe BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé worden geproduceerd in de BMW Group Fabriek München. De wereldwijde marktintroductie vindt plaats in juli 2024. De nieuwe BMW i4 is leverbaar vanaf € 59.728 en de nieuwe BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé is leverbaar vanaf € 63.154. Het volledige modelaanbod is als volgt opgebouwd:

BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé

Exterieur- en interieurdesign met frisse nieuwe details.
Zorgvuldig uitgedachte aanpassingen, nieuwe carrosseriekleuren en lichtmetalen wielen benadrukken de esthetiek van de elegante nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé. De smalle koplampen en de verticale BMW nierengrille hebben dankzij een vernieuwd design nog meer visuele impact. De omlijsting van de nierengrille is voortaan standaard uitgevoerd in mat chroom. Bij de BMW i4 heeft de BMW nierengrille een volledig gesloten bovenste deel, met daaronder een hoogglans zwart oppervlak met een in mat Silver uitgevoerd honingraatpatroon. De nieuwe BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé heeft een in mat Quarts Silver uitgevoerde gaasstructuur.

De nieuwe structuur van de LED units in de vernieuwde koplampen zorgt voor een technologische uitstraling. Dim- en grootlicht zijn geïntegreerd in één LED module. Verticale, subtiel pijlvormige LED elementen vormen de dagrijverlichting en richtingaanwijzers. In combinatie met de optionele Adaptieve LED-koplampen met blauwe inserts bieden de nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé ook zeer expressieve achterlichten met laser technologie.

Het M Sportpakket biedt hoogglans zwarte elementen en bij de modellen met brandstofmotor zijn de uitlaateindpijpen vergroot van 90 tot 100 millimeter in diameter. Optioneel zijn ook de uitlaateindpijpen uitgevoerd in hoogglans zwart, in combinatie met de M hoogglans Shadow Line met uitgebreide omvang. Nieuwe carrosseriekleuren voor de nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé zijn Cape York Green metallic en Fire Rot metallic.

Het aanbod lichtmetalen wielen is uitgebreid met vijf nieuwe designs, waaronder 19 inch aerodynamische M wielen in Dubbelspaak styling en 20 inch aerodynamische BMW Individual wielen in Dubbelspaak styling, beide uitgevoerd in Bicolor en met bredere achterbanden.

De aanpassingen aan het interieur van de nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé zijn gericht op digitalisering en aangescherpte sportiviteit. Dankzij een verbeterd BMW iDrive met QuickSelect zijn er minder fysieke knoppen in de cockpit. De automatische klimaatcontrole en de – optionele – stuur- en stoelverwarming zijn te bedienen via het BMW Curved Display of de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. De luchtuitstroomopeningen in het dashboard hebben een vernieuwde bediening voor het regelen en richten van de luchtstroom.

De nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé zijn standaard bekleed met geperforeerd Sensatec. Optioneel is Vernasca leder, dat nu ook leverbaar is in Bicolor zwart/rood, en BMW Individual Merino leder met uitgebreide omvang. Nieuwe interieurlijsten in Dark Graphite mat zorgen voor een premium ambiance. Nieuw op de optielijst zijn interieurlijsten in Fineline Hell met open structuur en Edelhout Esche Graubraun. Voortaan behoort Ambiance verlichting tot de standaarduitrusting, inclusief Welcome and Goodbye animatie en lichtsignalen voor binnenkomende telefoonoproepen of niet goed gesloten portieren.

De nieuwe stuurwielen dragen verder bij aan de sportieve ambiance van het interieur. Standaard is een tweespaak stuurwiel met veelhoekige rand en verlichte multifunctionele toetsen. Het M Sportpakket omvat een met leder bekleed M Sportstuurwiel met driespaak design en subtiele 12-uursmarkering. Bij de modellen met brandstofmotor zijn schakelpaddles standaard.

De optielijst is overzichtelijker gemaakt voor doelgerichte personalisatie. Nieuwe opties zijn een Luxury dashboard bekleed met Sensatec (ook op de portieren) en CraftedClarity glasapplicaties voor de transmissieschakelaar, BMW iDrive Controller en Start-/Stopknop op de middenconsole. De standaarduitrusting is sterk verbeterd door de toevoeging van een Alarmsysteem klasse 3, Personal eSim, stoelverwarming voorin en de Parking Assistant.

Aandrijflijn en opladen: frisse energie voor sportief rijplezier.
De BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé zijn leverbaar met de nieuwste BMW eDrive technologie en benzine- en dieselmotoren, in combinatie met traditionele achterwielaandrijving of intelligente BMW xDrive vierwielaandrijving. Bij modellen met brandstofmotor is de 8-traps Steptronic Sport transmissie standaard.

De nieuwe BMW i4 xDrive40 is het tweede model met volledig elektrische vierwielaandrijving. Die accelereert van 0 naar 100 km/h in 5,1 seconden. De hoogvoltage-accu van 81,1 kWh is goed voor een actieradius van 473 tot 544 km volgens de WLTP cyclus. Alle modelvarianten van de nieuwe BMW i4 kunnen AC laden met tot 11 kW. Bij een DC snellaadstation heeft de nieuwe BMW i4 een laadvermogen tot 205 kW, waardoor binnen tien minuten 135 tot 154 km kan worden bijgeladen (afhankelijk van uitvoering).

Onderstel en bestuurdersassistentie: dynamiek, comfort, veiligheid en een echte BMW rijbeleving.
Wendbaarheid, dynamiek en indrukwekkend comfort op lange afstanden zijn de bepalende kwaliteiten van de nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé. Dankzij verfijnde ondersteltechnologie met modelspecifieke afstemming leveren alle modellen de hoogstaande rijbeleving waar BMW om bekend staat, met een ideale balans tussen sportiviteit en rijcomfort. Enkele highlights zijn de geïntegreerde veerpootbruggen, een van aluminium gemaakt paneel onder de voorzijde, verstevigingselementen onder de bodem aan de achterzijde en aangepaste dempers die carrosseriebewegingen sterk verminderen. Aanvullend heeft de BMW i4 een laag geplaatste accu in een dragende behuizing voor extra stijfheid van de carrosserie. Standaard heeft dit model zelf nivellerende luchtvering op de achteras.

Alle modellen met M Sportpakket zijn bovendien leverbaar met M Sportonderstel, Adaptief M Onderstel met Variable Sport Steering en het M Sportremsysteem. Standaard voor alle modellen is een uitgebreid aanbod van bestuurdersassistentiesystemen, optioneel uit te breiden met Driving Assistant Professional. Dat omvat onder andere Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control met Stop&Go functie, automatische Speed Limited Assist, verkeerslichtherkenning en een uitwijkassistent.

BMW i4 eDrive35 M Sport Edition.
De BMW i4 eDrive35 is leverbaar als M Sport Edition vanaf € 61.223,-. Met de M Sport Edition wordt het krachtige en sportieve design van de BMW i4 extra benadrukt door het M Sportpakket en een BMW metallic exterieurkleur* uit het reguliere aanbod.

De M Performance modellen van de nieuwe BMW i4 en BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé.
De BMW i4 M50 biedt een bijzonder intense combinatie van kenmerkende M prestaties en een volledig elektrische aandrijving. Zijn vermogen overstijgt zelfs dat van de BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé. De elektromotor op de achteras levert een vermogen van 230 kW (313 pk) en de elektromotor op de vooras 190 kW (258 pk). Samen zorgen ze voor elektrische vierwielaandrijving en moeiteloze prestaties onder alle omstandigheden. De vermogensverdeling is bovendien variabel – van efficiënte achterwielaandrijving tot vierwielaandrijving voor maximale grip. Een boost functie in SPORT modus zorgt met 50 kW (68 pk) gedurende 10 seconden voor een piekvermogen van 400 kW (544 pk) en een totaal koppel van 795 Nm. Met deze Sport Boost functie accelereert de BMW i4 M50 vanuit stilstand naar de 100 km/h in slechts 3,9 seconden. De topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 225 km/h.

Ook de BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé met 6-cilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor met M TwinPower Turbo technologie profiteert van elektrificatie in de vorm van een 48V Mild Hybrid systeem voor een nog scherpere vermogensopbouw en geoptimaliseerde efficiëntie. Het maximale vermogen bedraagt 275 kW (374 pk) met een koppel van 500 Nm. De 48V Mild Hybrid technologie zorgt voor een tijdelijke elektrische boost van 8 kW (11 pk). Samen met de 8-traps Steptronic Sport transmissie en intelligente xDrive vierwielaandrijving accelereert de BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,7 seconden. Het M Sportuitlaatsysteem zorgt voor een bijpassende geluidservaring. De topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 250 km/u.

Beide modellen hebben aerodynamisch geoptimaliseerde exterieurelementen en M specifieke ondersteltechnologie. De BMW nierengrille heeft een hoogglans zwarte omlijsting en horizontale spijlen met BMW M logo. Exterieurelementen die voorheen waren uitgevoerd in Ceriumgrau, zijn nu eveneens hoogglans zwart.

Beide modellen hebben elektronisch aangestuurde dempers en Variable Sport Steering. Daarnaast is het sportieve duo voorzien van het M Sportremsysteem, bij de BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé aangevuld met een M Sportdifferentieel op de achteras. Standaard zijn 18 inch lichtmetalen M wielen. Lichtmetalen wielen tot 20 inch en sportbanden zijn optioneel.

Het nieuwe, met leder beklede driespaaks M Sportstuurwiel heeft voortaan een afgeplatte onderzijde, decoratieve stiksels in M kleuren en een rode 12-uursmarkering. De BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé heeft daarnaast ook schakelpaddles. Zowel de standaardstoelen als de M Sportstoelen zijn optioneel leverbaar met Vernasca lederen bekleding, dat nu ook beschikbaar is in zwart met blauwe contrasterende stiksels of in de nieuwe Bicolor combinatie zwart/rood. Eveneens standaard voor de M Performance modellen zijn interieurlijsten in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthrazit, M instaplijsten, M pedalen, M voetsteun voor de bestuurder, hemelbekleding in antraciet en M specifieke weergaven voor het BMW Curved Display.

BMW Charging: intelligent opladen met Connected Home Charging en Charge Multi Contract.
De BMW i4 wordt in Europa geleverd met zowel een BMW Charging Card als de Professional laadkabel (Mode 3) voor openbaar opladen. Daarmee is driefase laden met tot 11 kW mogelijk. Optioneel leverbaar is de noodlaadkabel (Mode 2) voor AC laden met tot 11 kW via huishoudelijke en verzwaarde stopcontacten. Eveneens optioneel leverbaar is de BMW Wallbox voor driefase laden met tot 11 kW.

De nieuwe BMW i4 is een van de eerste modellen van het merk met de Plug & Charge Multi Contract functie. Dit maakt het opladen bij openbare laadstations nog eenvoudiger. De BMW identificeert zichzelf (via ISO15118-2), waardoor aanmelden via een app of met een laadpas niet meer nodig is. Plug & Charge Multi Contract is een baanbrekende functie die vooralsnog uniek is op de markt. Klanten kunnen tot vijf energiecontracten van verschillende aanbieders aan hun BMW koppelen. De identificatie voor het opladen en afrekenen verloopt automatisch bij de deelnemende laadpunten.

Munich / Beijing. At Auto China 2024 in Beijing, the BMW Group presents the latest progress in its change towards electrification, digitalisation and circularity. World premieres of new BMW and MINI models take centre stage. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which heralds the next generation of BMW vehicles, is on show for the first time in China.

„With the NEUE KLASSE, we are carrying BMW into the future: in design, technology and philosophy. It begins already next year when we will release the NEUE KLASSE onto the market. Not with niche models – but starting in our most successful, highest-volume segments,“ says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse signals the start of a new era of individual mobility and provides a glimpse of the BMW brand's future model generation. It is rich in digital experiences, locally emission-free and circular in the long term to ensure typical BMW driving pleasure for future generations. Production of the Neue Klasse series models will start in 2025, initially at the BMW Group plant in Debrecen and shortly afterwards in China.

The brand's most popular electric vehicle worldwide is currently the BMW i4, the new version of which will celebrate its world premiere at Auto China 2024. The success of the BMW i4 confirms the BMW Group's open technology approach, which makes it possible to produce vehicles with purely electric drive systems and highly efficient combustion engines on a common platform. In Beijing, the new BMW i4 will be shown to the public for the first time together with the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé's combustion engine variants, which have also been further developed.

The world premiere of the MINI Aceman at Auto China 2024 marks the third member of the brand's new model family. The all-electric crossover model closes the gap between the new MINI Cooper and the new MINI Countryman.

"What the NEUE KLASSE is to BMW, the New MINI Family is to MINI: the most desirable product range in the history of the brand and the biggest investment we ever made in MINI. At just over four metres long, the Aceman embodies the basic idea of the original, iconic MINI of 1959: progressive design, optimal use of space and a minimal footprint.," said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Customer, Brand and Sales.

The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, in short: Auto China, is one of the most important trade fairs in the international automotive industry. The 18th edition of the exhibition, which alternates with Auto Shanghai, will be held under the theme "New Era, New Cars" and will be open to the public from 25 April to 4 May 2024. At the China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, car manufacturers, suppliers and service providers from all over the world will present their new models, products and technologies. The BMW Group brands will present their current product range on an exhibition area of around 2,000 square metres.

China premiere: The BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse combines the BMW Group's innovative strength and development expertise in the key future fields of electrification, digitalisation and circularity. A reinterpretation of the brand's typical design goes hand in hand with the progress embodied by the Vision vehicle. A clear design language reduced to the essentials with generous surfaces and few striking lines creates an almost monolithic body. Characteristic features such as the BMW radiator grille and the Hofmeister kink counter-swing on the C-pillar. are brought into even sharper focus.

In the interior, the next generation of BMW iDrive offers a unique digital user experience that merges the real and virtual worlds. It consistently puts the driver and his needs at the centre. In addition to the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and the Central Display, the driver can interact with the vehicle using the innovative BMW Panoramic Vision. For the first time, it projects information across the entire width of the windscreen and is complemented in the Neue Klasse series by the enhanced BMW 3D Head-Up Display. Analogue controls are reduced to a minimum in the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

The increased use of secondary raw materials, resource-conserving production methods and all-electric drive with sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology will reduce the CO₂ footprint of the Neue Klasse over the entire life cycle of the vehicles. In order to increase recyclability and take a decisive step towards a circular economy, the variety of materials used has also been reduced. An improved dismantling concept also helps to optimise the recycling of Neue Klasse vehicles.

World premiere: The new BMW i4, the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé.

The appeal of pure electric premium mobility is also being consistently enhanced in the current model range of the BMW brand. The BMW i4 will be available in four model variants on the world's automotive markets as part of an extensive model revision. The Connected Home Charging Package for intelligent, solar- and load-optimised charging at home will be offered in the first pilot markets. The BMW i4 also offers the Plug & Charge Multi Contract function, which enables charging at fast charging stations without an app or card.

The latest advances in digitalisation are represented by the latest generation of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect based on BMW Operating System 8.5, which is available in both the new BMW i4 and the combustion engine models of the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. With the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the enhanced BMW iDrive is consistently geared towards operation via touch functions and natural speech. The digital update in the new BMW i4 and the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé is accompanied by a redesign of the instrument panel. New steering wheels, interior trims and seat upholstery add modern accents to the premium ambience of all model variants.

On the exterior, the sporty profile of the premium mid-range models, which are extremely successful with both all-electric and conventional drive systems, has been sharpened by the redesign of the BMW radiator grille and headlights. In conjunction with the optional adaptive LED headlights, all models also feature exclusive laser rear lights. The range of exterior colours for the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé has been extended to include the new Cape York Green metallic and Fire Red metallic variants. New aerodynamic 19-inch and 20-inch wheels are also available.

World premiere: the new MINI Aceman.

With its all-electric drive, progressive crossover proportions and innovative digital features, the new MINI Aceman brings fresh impetus to the premium small car segment. It combines the brand's hallmark agility with creative use of space and high functionality, making it the ideal companion in the city. With four doors and a large tailgate, the MINI Aceman is just over four metres long and offers room for five passengers and plenty of storage space for everyday use and weekend excursions.

As a character in its own right, the MINI Aceman appeals to customers who value the expression of individuality and personality in an urban environment. Its reduced, purist exterior design with clearly defined contours and strong edges is an expression of the new MINI design language "Charismatic Simplicity".

The intelligent interior concept maximises space by cleverly arranging seats and stowage compartments to make the most of the available room. The expressive and colourful interior design is made possible by the use of high-quality materials and innovative technologies such as the 3D knitting process for the textile surfaces. The MINI Interaction Unit with circular OLED display, MINI Experience Modes and dynamic projections on the dashboard and door sills provide a holistic user experience of light, motion, interaction and sound.

Faster, more precise, more efficient: The first fully electric BMW xDrive system in the BMW iX and the BMW i4 M50.

Two engines, four driven wheels and a globally unique drive torque control system ensure optimal traction, driving stability and dynamics in every situation.

Munich. More than 35 years ago, all-wheel drive provided a new form of driving pleasure for the first time in a BMW, and the intelligent distribution of power between the front and rear axles has been known as BMW xDrive for almost two decades. The fascination of four driven wheels now reaches an additional, particularly sustainable dimension. The first fully electric BMW xDrive system can now be experienced on the road. It makes its debut in the BMW iX and the BMW i4 M50 (combined power consumption: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km).

Like all BMW iX vehicle types, the fully electric Gran Coupé from BMW M GmbH is powered by an engine on both the front and rear axles. This creates an axle-parallel all-wheel drive without a mechanical connection between the front and rear wheels. The interaction of the two engines is optimised by an innovative and globally unique drive torque control system. The electric BMW xDrive system thus ensures the ideal form of power transmission in every driving situation – combined with a typical BMW driving experience.

Intelligent networking of driving stability control, actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation and drive control.

The fully electric BMW xDrive system makes it possible to transform outstanding drive power, expressed for example in the BMW i4 M50 with a system output of up to 400 kW/544 hp and a maximum torque of 795 Nm, into superior driving dynamics. This requires precise distribution of the drive torque. This is ensured by linking the DSC (driving stability control) system with the all-wheel drive-specific version of the actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation and the Combined Charging Unit (CCU), whose highly integrated range of functions for the first time includes both charging and drive electronics.

The intelligent networking of all systems makes it possible to distribute the drive torque requested by the driver between the two engines in such a way that traction and driving stability, dynamics and efficiency are guaranteed to an optimum extent in the respective driving situation. DSC defines the general conditions under which the electric BMW xDrive system can operate. It permanently analyses the vehicle's wheel speeds, steering angle, driving speed, longitudinal and lateral acceleration and yaw rate. Based on these parameters, a speed corridor is determined in which the two drive units may be active to ensure a stable driving condition. The My Mode selected by the driver and whether the DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) is activated are also taken into account. This mode is a special DSC mode in which, in interaction with actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation and other control functions, an even sportier driving style is possible on normal surfaces without interventions, among other things through increased intervention thresholds. In addition, a maximum drive is achieved on loose ground such as snow, sand or gravel.

From the data supplied by DSC and the drive torque requested by the driver, the CCU calculates the ideal distribution between front and rear-wheel drive. The fully electric xDrive system can react noticeably faster and with significantly higher control quality to any change in driving situation than would be possible with a transfer box between the axles familiar from BMW models with combustion engines.

The drive control of the CCU, actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation and the driving stability control system interact flexibly and precisely. If required, the data supplied by DSC about the driving situation can already proactively include an all-wheel drive request. In many driving situations, a change in the distribution of drive torque between the front and rear engines alone can increase driving stability without requiring any further intervention. If one wheel threatens to lose grip with the road surface, actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation with its particularly fast and precise reactions comes into play first. Only in critical situations does DSC also assist with wheel-specific braking interventions.

Optimal traction, perfect directional stability, maximum efficiency.

During driving off and accelerating, the desired drive torque is distributed between both engines by the CCU to provide optimised traction. In addition to the road friction values and the driver's choice, the electric BMW xDrive and actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation also take into account environmental parameters such as wind, uphill or downhill gradients, the vehicle settings of the My Modes and the DTC, as well as the dynamic axle-load distribution, which provides more weight and better power transmission to the rear axle during acceleration. Due to the direct integration of actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation into the drive torque control system of the CCU, long signal paths to the driving stability control system are eliminated, meaning that interventions can be performed at a speed that is up to 10 times higher and in a particularly precise dosage. This ensures unwavering directional stability of the vehicle even during extremely dynamic acceleration manoeuvres.

When the accelerator pedal is pressed moderately, a continuously higher proportion of drive torque is provided by the rear electric drive unit as the speed increases. In phases of constant driving, the drive is finally provided solely by the engine acting on the rear wheels. This creates the traditional BMW driving experience. At the same time, the efficiency of the drive system and, with it, the range of the vehicle is optimised.

Full all-wheel drive functionality is available at all times. For example, even when driving in My Mode Efficient, any spontaneous load demand is immediately met with a significant increase in drive torque on the front axle. When cornering dynamically, on the other hand, the proportion of rear-wheel drive is increased. The front wheels can therefore absorb higher cornering forces due to the reduced drive torque. In this way, the vehicle's driving stability and agility are increased in equal measure. Depending on the driving situation, the fully variable electric BMW xDrive system can implement any form of power transmission: traction-optimised all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution as well as pure front or rear-wheel drive.

Precisely controlled energy recovery optimises driving stability and efficiency.

In coasting and braking phases, both engines can feed energy back into the high-voltage battery by means of a generator function. This makes a significantly higher recuperation performance possible than just one motor. The fully electric BMW xDrive system also makes it possible to control these energy recovery processes in such a way as to ensure maximum driving stability and efficiency at all times. The system is designed so that the more powerful engine on the rear axle also takes on the main role in recovering energy. In curves and in adverse road conditions, on the other hand, a higher proportion of energy recovery performance is provided by the front engine.

Just like the drive torque, the energy recovery torque can also be divided quickly and precisely between the two engines. In addition, the intelligently networked drive torque control system ensures that a stable driving condition is also guaranteed during deceleration processes. The slip control set by DSC helps to prevent unstable driving conditions caused by excessive braking recovery. The transition from deceleration through recovery to the intervention of the hydraulic braking system is not perceptible to the driver. The integrated braking system also contributes to this, providing a constant pedal feel at all times.

The figures for fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, power consumption and range are measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. These figures refer to vehicles on the automotive market in Germany. For span widths, the specifications take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All values were calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP values are taken as the basis for determining vehicle-related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO₂ emissions as well as eligibility for any applicable vehicle-specific subsidies. BMW Group presenteert zijn eerste volledig elektrische model voor de premium middenklasse. De BMW i4 biedt wendbaarheid en dynamiek voor het BMW typerende rijplezier, maar ook comfort en moderne functionaliteit. De i4 combineert sportieve duurzaamheid met gracieus design, ruimte en gebruiksgemak van een vierdeurs Gran Coupé.

De nieuwe BMW i4 zet niet alleen de standaard op het gebied van rijdynamiek, comfort op lange afstand en elegant en opvallend design. Ook is hij toonaangevend met premium materiaalkeuze en vakmanschap. De nieuwste generatie van het iDrive systeem, baanbrekende innovaties op het vlak van geautomatiseerd rijden en parkeerassistentie en een rijk aanbod voor personalisatiemogelijkheden en uitrustingen zorgen samen voor een ronduit indrukwekkende rijbeleving.

Prijzen

Het design: een perfect mix van dynamiek en duurzaamheid.
Het hoogwaardige design sluit hier perfect op aan met een nieuwe stijl met een scherp en helder lijnenspel. De volledig elektrische aandrijving wordt zo gecombineerd met de sportieve elegantie en functionaliteit van een Gran Coupé. Met een exterieurlengte van 4.785 mm en wielbasis van 2.856 mm biedt de BMW i4 ruim plaats aan vijf inzittenden. De brede bagageklep biedt toegang tot een veelzijdige bagageruimte met een inhoud van 470 tot 1.290 liter. Alles tezamen biedt de BMW i4 een totaalpakket dat in onmiskenbare BMW stijl een nieuw tijdperk van rijplezier inluidt.

De BMW i4 combineert de kenmerkende sportieve esthetiek van BMW coupés met het comfort van een vierdeurs model met een praktische, grote bagageklep. De elegante, langgerekte proporties zorgen voor een sportieve uitstraling. Korte overhangen, slanke dakstijlen en frameloze ruiten vormen samen met de vloeiende daklijn het kenmerkende silhouet van een BMW coupé. Accenten in BMW i blauw verwijzen naar de vele innovaties. Zo biedt de deels gesloten BMW nierengrille uitrustingsafhankelijk ook plaats aan radarsensoren voor de bestuurdersassistentiesystemen. De voorbumper heeft een minimaal aantal openingen, zoals de geïntegreerde Air Curtains die de luchtstroom efficiënt langs de wielen geleiden. Verzonken portiergrepen, aerodynamische wielen, diffusorelementen in de achterbumper en een vin aan de achterzijde dragen verder bij aan het optimaliseren van de aerodynamica.

De BMW i4 M50 is het eerste elektrisch aangedreven model van BMW M GmbH en onderscheidt zich met klassieke designelementen van BMW M modellen, zoals de U-vorm in de voorbumper en verschillende Cerium Grey en hoogglans zwarte accenten. Een M specifieke achterspoiler maakt de kenmerkende prestatiegerichte uitstraling van de BMW i4 M50 compleet.

Ook het optionele Model M Sport voor de BMW i4 eDrive40 maakt de dynamische eigenschappen van de auto direct duidelijk. Verder is een M Carbon exterieurpakket leverbaar op de BMW i4 M50, waarbij verschillende elementen zijn uitgevoerd in lichtgewicht, hightech koolstofvezel. Frozen “matte lakken” en hoogwaardige BMW Individual carrosseriekleuren maken de exterieuruitrusting compleet.

De minimalistische, U-vormige lichtbuisjes van de standaard full-LED koplampen zijn een moderne interpretatie van de klassieke dubbele koplampen. Optioneel leverbaar zijn adaptieve LED koplampen met BMW Laserlight en het anti-verblindingsgrootlicht BMW Selective Beam.

In het interieur komt het progressieve karakter tot uiting dankzij innovatieve, volledig digitale weergaven voor de nieuwste generatie BMW iDrive. Het BMW Curved Display laat het 12,3 inch instrumentenpaneel en 14,9 inch centrale display samensmelten tot één gebogen glazen oppervlak dat meer dan ooit naar de bestuurder is gericht. Dankzij de verborgen montagepunten lijkt het scherm boven het dashboard te zweven. Het aantal knoppen en schakelaars in het interieur is tot een minimum beperkt. De cockpit heeft een premium ambiance van elegantie en moderniteit, met hoogwaardige materialen en nauwkeurig vakmanschap.

De standaard sportstoelen – optioneel elektrisch verstelbaar met Memory functie – en het multifunctionele sportstuurwiel – optioneel met leder bekleed M Sportstuurwiel – sluiten hier perfect op aan. De hoge middenconsole zorgt samen met de vloeiende lijnen die vanaf het dashboard doorlopen in de portieren voor een prettig omsloten en toch ruimtelijk gevoel. De middenconsole biedt plaats aan de vertrouwde bedieningselementen als de BMW Controller en Driving Experience Control. Blauwe accenten in de cockpit verwijzen naar de elektrische aandrijving.

BMW typerende rijdynamiek en elektrische vierwielaandrijving.
De volledig elektrische BMW i4 voldoet met zijn compromisloze premium kwaliteit en typerende dynamische karakter volledig aan de verwachtingen van de meest veeleisende klanten. Het direct beschikbare vermogen zorgt voor een snelle maar geruisloze acceleratie. De rijbeleving biedt zelfs onder de meest veeleisende omstandigheden een optimale balans tussen sportiviteit en comfort. Hij biedt alle kwaliteiten van een BMW Gran Coupé, maar combineert die voor het eerst met lokaal emissievrij rijden. De toevoeging van een BMW M model onderstreept de focus op sportiviteit. Het eerste volledig elektrische model van BMW M GmbH brengt de klassieke M formule van wendbaarheid, dynamiek en precisie naar het tijdperk van elektrische mobiliteit.

Deze eigenschappen zijn mede te danken aan de ongeëvenaarde ondersteltechnologieën. Zo is het standaardmodel al voorzien van onder meer adaptieve demping, luchtvering achter, elektromechanische besturing met Servotronic, een geïntegreerd remsysteem en Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) met bijbehorende functies. Door vergaande integratie van de verschillende systemen reageren ze sneller dan ooit op de verschillende omstandigheden: tot tien keer sneller dan conventionele systemen. Aanvullend zorgt Traction Control voor een optimale acceleratie vanuit stilstand.

De BMW i4 is gebaseerd op een flexibele voertuigarchitectuur die van meet af aan is ontwikkeld voor volledig elektrische aandrijving. De uitzonderlijk dunne hoogvoltage-accucellen zijn in de carrosseriestructuur geïntegreerd en laag in de vloer geplaatst. Dit zorgt voor een zeer laag zwaartepunt van de auto en daarmee voor een betere handling. Samen met de compacte aandrijftechnologie zorgt deze plaatsing bovendien voor een gebalanceerde gewichtsverdeling. De hoogwaardige ondersteltechnologie maakt tot slot ongeëvenaarde prestaties mogelijk. De decennialange ervaring van BMW Group met de ontwikkeling van uitzonderlijk sportieve premium modellen is in ieder aspect van de BMW i4 terug te zien.

Het onderstel is specifiek voor de BMW i4 ontwikkeld en biedt zowel dynamiek als comfort, plus een zeer nauwkeurige handling. De elektromechanische besturing sluit hier perfect op aan en filtert alle ongewenste bewegingen van het stuurwiel weg, wat zeker op slecht wegdek zorgt voor meer rust en comfort. Het standaard Servotronic biedt twee instellingen – meer direct of meer comfort – te activeren via de Driving Experience Control. Het optionele Variable Sport Steering biedt op dit gebied nog meer mogelijkheden voor een op persoonlijke voorkeur aangepaste rijbeleving. De wielophanging van de BMW i40 eDrive40 is afgesteld voor een optimale balans tussen dynamiek en comfort. De optionele, adaptieve M wielophanging maakt het ook mogelijk om de afstelling aan te passen op de situatie en op de voorkeur van de bestuurder.

De BMW i4 M50 heeft een modelspecifiek Adaptief M Onderstel met standaard individueel afgestelde vering en schokdempers, modelspecifieke anti-roll bars, een extra veerpootbrug voor, Variable Sport Steering, een M Sportremsysteem en tot 20 inch lichtmetalen M wielen.

Voor het eerst wordt de vijfde generatie BMW eDrive technologie toegepast in combinatie met elektrische vierwielaandrijving voor een buitengewone mate van acceleratie, grip, stabiliteit en dynamiek onder alle omstandigheden. Het systeem past de hoeveelheid koppel per wiel continu aan op de verschillende rijsituaties. Onder minder veeleisende omstandigheden worden alleen de achterwielen aangedreven voor een betere efficiëntie en actieradius.

Recuperatie van de remenergie zorgt ervoor dat de accu tijdens het afremmen wordt bijgeladen voor nog meer efficiëntie en een grotere actieradius. Het geïntegreerde remsysteem zorgt ervoor dat dit niet te merken is aan de feedback van het rempedaal. Het intrappen van het pedaal zorgt onder alle omstandigheden voor dezelfde mate van remkracht. De mate van recuperatieremkracht wordt automatisch aangepast op de specifieke situatie. In combinatie met een vooruitziende rijstijl kan tot 90 procent van alle remacties met recuperatie worden uitgevoerd. Gebruik van het rempedaal is dan bijna niet nodig. Wanneer het stroompedaal wordt losgelaten maar afremmen niet nodig is, zal de BMW uitrollen met uitgeschakelde aandrijving om zo verdere energie te besparen. Een grafische weergave in het BMW iDrive systeem toont de actuele energiestromen van de aandrijving.

De BMW i4 is standaard voorzien van aerodynamisch geoptimaliseerde 17 inch lichtmetalen wielen, of 18 inch lichtmetalen M wielen voor de BMW i4 M50. Alle optionele 19 en 20 inch wielen zijn voorzien van bredere achterbanden. Voor de BMW i4 M50 zijn ook high-performance banden leverbaar, evenals een M Technic pakket met 20 inch lichtmetalen M wielen, grotere remschijven voor het M Sportremsysteem en extra aerodynamische maatregelen voor het exterieur. Bij de BMW i4 debuteert standaard ook een meer geavanceerde versie van het bandenspanningscontrolesysteem, dat voor meer veiligheid en comfort zorgt en zelfs de levensduur van de band kan voorspellen.

Carrosserie als onderstel vallen op door een lichtgewicht ontwerp waarbij veel gebruik is gemaakt van aluminium. Alle functionele componenten zijn geoptimaliseerd voor zowel een superieure stijfheid als optimale veiligheid bij een ongeval. Daarbij horen ook geïntegreerde veiligheidssystemen die de gevolgen van een ongeval maximaal beperken. De BMW i4 heeft een luchtweerstandscoëfficiënt van slechts 0,24 C_w, mede te danken aan actieve luchtgeleiding zoals een afsluitbare BMW nierengrille. Deze vergaand geoptimaliseerde aerodynamica draagt verder bij aan een maximale actieradius.

Duurzame vooruitgang: vijfde generatie BMW eDrive technologie.
De vijfde generatie BMW eDrive technologie bestaat uit de aandrijfelektronica, laadtechnologie, hoogvoltage-accu en elektromotoren die samen met de besturingselektronica en transmissie zijn geïntegreerd in één behuizing. Dankzij de decennialange ervaring van BMW met elektrische aandrijving heeft de vijfde generatie eDrive technologie een verbeterde efficiëntie. Zo hebben de elektromotoren nu een efficiëntie van liefst 93 procent en behoren daarmee tot de beste in hun klasse. Bovendien zijn elektrisch aangestuurde synchroonmotoren toegepast in plaats van conventionele elektromotoren met permanente magneten. Hierdoor zijn er geen zeldzame aardmetalen nodig voor de productie.

Het accupakket heeft een nettocapaciteit van 80,7 kWh en een 20 procent hogere energiedichtheid in vergelijking met de huidige BMW i3. Daarnaast is de laadcapaciteit dankzij een nieuwe Combined Charging Unit (CCU) verhoogd tot 200 kW. Bij een snellaadstation met dezelfde capaciteit is tien minuten opladen genoeg om weer 164 (eDrive40) of 140 km (M50) ver te komen. De BMW i4 is verder geschikt voor zowel eenfase als driefase opladen aan een AC-oplaadpunt, met een maximale capaciteit van 11 kW. Volledig opladen duurt dan 8,5 uur.

Dankzij dit alles kunnen in verhouding kleinere accu’s worden toegepast, wat het gewicht van de BMW helpt beperken. Voor optimale prestaties is het accupakket specifiek voor de BMW i4 ontwikkeld. De BMW i4 is standaard uitgerust met een geïntegreerd verwarmings- en koelingssysteem voor zowel interieur als aandrijflijn, inclusief zeer efficiënte warmtepomp. Zo blijft de accu op optimale bedrijfstemperatuur, wat verder bijdraagt aan een grotere actieradius. BMW biedt acht jaar of 160.000 km garantie op de accu.

Twee uitvoeringen: BMW i4 eDrive40 en BMW i4 M50.
De BMW i4 is bij introductie leverbaar in twee modelvarianten, waaronder het allereerste BMW M model met volledig elektrische aandrijving. De BMW i4 M50 is een sportmodel van BMW M GmbH en biedt zeer intensief rijplezier. Dankzij elektromotoren op zowel de voor- als achteras met een gecombineerd vermogen van 400 kW (544 pk), een koppel van liefst 795 Nm en M specifieke ondersteltechnologie biedt hij inspirerende prestaties en een actieradius van 510 kilometer (WLTP). Het piekvermogen van 400 kW (544 pk) is gedurende tien seconden beschikbaar in SPORT modus. Bij de BMW i4 eDrive40 zorgt een 250 kW (340 pk) sterke elektromotor met een koppel van 430 Nm voor klassieke achterwielaandrijving en indrukwekkende sportiviteit. De actieradius bedraagt tot 590 kilometer (WLTP).

Met de Sport Boost functie bereikt de BMW i4 M50 in 3,9 seconden de 100 km/h vanuit stilstand. De topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 225 km/h. De BMW i4 eDrive40 sprint van 0 naar 100 km/h in 5,7 seconden en heeft een elektronisch begrensde topsnelheid van 190 km/h.

Interieur en uitrusting: een premium en individuele stijl.
Het productieproces van de BMW i4 maakt het mogelijk om ieder exemplaar volledig samen te stellen naar wens van de klant. Er zijn vrijwel oneindig veel mogelijkheden voor personalisatie, van design tot prestaties, comfort, veiligheidsfuncties en infotainment. Zo geniet iedere klant van optimaal rijplezier in een persoonlijke, op maat gemaakte BMW. Er is een grote keuze uit carrosseriekleuren, lichtmetalen wielen, het Model M Sport, het M Carbon exterieurpakket (leverbaar op de BMW i4 M50) en verschillende ook achteraf te installeren M Performance Parts om de BMW i4 volledig naar eigen smaak vorm te geven.

Voor het interieur is er een ruime keuze uit geperforeerde Sensatec of Vernasca lederen bekleding in vijf kleurvarianten, aangevuld met stof/Sensatec combinaties. Ook lederen bekleding BMW Individual Merino met uitgebreide omvang en BMW Individual Merino vollederuitrusting behoren tot de mogelijkheden. Decoratieve stiksels, een met leder bekleed dashboard en interieurlijsten maken het aanbod compleet.

De grote bagageklep opent en sluit standaard automatisch en in combinatie met het optionele Comfort Access zelfs op afstand. Een elektrisch inklapbare trekhaak is optioneel leverbaar en maakt het mogelijk om tot 1.600 kg te trekken. Voor nog meer praktisch gebruiksgemak biedt het interieur veel opbergmogelijkheden. USB poorten en een Bluetooth verbinding zorgen voor de nodige connectiviteit, evenals de optionele telefonie met draadloze oplaadmogelijkheid en inductielader voor smartphones.

De BMW i4 beschikt standaard over 3-zone automatische airconditioning die is gekoppeld aan de verwarming of ventilatie van de stoelen. Voor het eerst zijn alle temperatuur- en comfortfuncties centraal te bedienen, eventueel met stemcommando. Baanbrekende nanovezel-filtertechnologie zorgt voor een zeer effectieve reiniging van de lucht in het interieur, ook in combinatie met de standaard voorconditioneringsfunctie.

De BMW i4 is standaard uitrust met een geluiddempende voorruit, automatisch dimmende binnenspiegel en verwarmde buitenspiegels. Optioneel zorgt een groot glazen schuif-/kanteldak dat zich van voor tot achter uitstrekt ervoor dat het interieur baadt in licht. Daarbij is de lichtinval en hoeveelheid frisse lucht volledig naar voorkeur instelbaar. De LED verlichting voor leeslampjes en verschillende compartimenten wordt optioneel aangevuld door Ambiance verlichting, waarvan verdeling, intensiteit en kleur instelbaar zijn via het iDrive menu. Het Welcome Light Carpet en de dynamische interieurverlichting maken de exclusieve ambiance compleet.

De BMW Live Cockpit Plus is standaard aanwezig en biedt een audiosysteem met DAB+ radio. Het HiFi luidsprekersysteem – optioneel voor de BMW i4 eDrive40 en standaard voor de BMW i4 M50 –  brengt het aantal luidsprekers op tien. Voor het ultieme luistergenot is er het Harman Kardon Surround Sound System met zestien luidsprekers en een digitale zevenkanaalsversterker met een audiovermogen van 464 watt.

De volledig elektrische aandrijving zorgt ervoor dat de BMW i4 van buiten geruisloos onderweg blijft. Om voetgangers te attenderen op zijn aanwezigheid is de BMW standaard uitgerust met akoestische voetgangersbescherming met een kenmerkend geluid. Aan boord wordt de elektrische rijbeleving naar wens versterkt met bijpassende geluiden die zijn gecomponeerd door de beroemde filmmuziekcomponist Hans Zimmer en Renzo Vitale, Creative Director Sound bij BMW Group. Deze geluiden versterken de rijbeleving zonder het comfort te beperken. In SPORT modus zijn de geluiden krachtiger en dominanter aanwezig. De BMW i4 M50 heeft een bijzonder energieke toon. Via Remote Software Upgrade zal ook BMW IconicSounds Electric beschikbaar worden, dat een geheel nieuwe geluidsbeleving biedt.

Het nieuwe BMW iDrive: een natuurlijke dialoog met de BMW.
De nieuwe generatie BMW iDrive brengt de interactie tussen bestuurder en BMW naar de digitale toekomst. Samen met het nieuwe BMW Operating System 8 met extreem krachtige connectiviteit en zeer snelle dataverwerking is de BMW i4 in iedere situatie een intelligente en proactieve metgezel. De intuïtieve bediening maakt een natuurlijke dialoog mogelijk tussen gebruiker en BMW, rekening houdend met persoonlijke voorkeuren. De BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant heeft extra vaardigheden. Zo werkt hij proactief en houdt hij rekening met de context. Wanneer de assistent actief is, verschijnt deze met een vloeiende animatie op de displays. Het systeem herkent wie er spreekt, zodat de animatie op de bijbehorende plaats op het beeldscherm verschijnt. Ook overige informatie wordt op de meest relevante plek op de beeldschermen getoond, ook weer aanpasbaar op persoonlijke voorkeuren.

BMW Operating System 8 biedt ook meer mogelijkheden voor het up-to-date houden van de software. Zo kunnen via Remote Software Upgrade nieuwe functies aan de BMW worden toegevoegd en bestaande verbeterd via de geïntegreerde SIM kaart of via de My BMW App. Een bezoek aan de dealer is hierbij niet nodig. Bovendien zijn de upgrades van huidige functies gratis beschikbaar en duurt installeren zelden langer dan 20 minuten. Als er een nieuwe upgrade beschikbaar is, verschijnt er een melding op het Control Display en/of in de My BMW App. Het installatieproces is ook op een later moment in te plannen – bijvoorbeeld ’s nachts als de BMW toch geparkeerd staat.

Het BMW ID maakt een nog verdere personalisatie van de gebruikservaring mogelijk. In het BMW ID worden verschillende persoonlijke instellingen opgeslagen, beveiligd met een PIN code. Via het BMW ID zijn alle persoonlijke instellingen en voorkeuren van de bestuurder direct beschikbaar wanneer hij instapt en het BMW ID aanmeldt, inclusief persoonlijke begroeting op het centrale display. Het BMW ID is ook te gebruiken voor BMW modellen met BMW Operating System 7.

Ook BMW Maps is verder verbeterd. Routes worden niet alleen sneller, maar ook dynamisch berekend op basis van real-time informatie. Deze informatie bestaat uit kaartgegevens van HERE en uit data van de verschillende verbonden voertuigen van BMW Group – dat zijn wereldwijd al meer dan 14 miljoen voertuigen. Ook houdt het systeem met behulp van de diensten van Connected Charging rekening met de actuele actieradius van de BMW en plant indien nodig automatisch een laadpauze in. Inclusief handige informatie over het laadstation en voorzieningen in de buurt. Via de My BMW App is het eenvoudig om de laadsessies in de gaten te houden en eventueel in te plannen. Een belangrijke nieuwe functie is Learning Navigation, waarbij BMW Maps gebruikmaakt van het BMW ID voor een extra persoonlijke routebegeleiding. Ook BMW Maps wordt regelmatig geüpdatet via software-over-the-air updates.

Connectiviteit via Apple CarPlay® en Android AutoTM maakt het mogelijk om talrijke smartphone apps van derden te gebruiken in de BMW. Apple Maps en Google Maps navigatie werken zelfs volledig geïntergreerd dankzij  smartphone integratie in BMW iDrive, inclusief routeweergave via het BMW Head-Up Display.

Bestuurdersassistentiesystemen: intelligente technologie voor meer rijplezier, comfort en veiligheid.
De BMW i4 zet de nieuwe standaard voor elektrisch rijplezier. Alle componenten zijn ontwikkeld voor een emotioneel rijke beleving, aangevuld met de beste bestuurdersassistentiesystemen van dit moment. In totaal zijn er zo’n 40 assistentiefuncties beschikbaar die de veiligheid en het comfort verhogen.

De BMW i4 biedt technologieën voor geautomatiseerd rijden, zoals automatische Speed Limit Assist met verkeersbordenherkenning en optionele Active Cruise Control met Stop & Go functie die werkt op basis van de routebegeleiding. Zo houdt de BMW altijd de juiste snelheid voor de betreffende situatie aan, maar ook een veilige afstand tot de voorganger.

Front Collision Warning met remfunctie en voetgangersherkenning, Speed Limit Info en verbeterde Lane Departure Warning behoren tot de standaarduitrusting. Optioneel leverbaar is de Driving Assistant met Rear Collision Prevention en Crossing Traffic Warning Achter. Dat laatste verhoogt de veiligheid bij achteruitrijden in overzichtelijke situaties. Lane Change Warning maakt inhalen veiliger door ook te waarschuwen voor tegemoetkomende of snel van achteren naderende voertuigen.

Met het optionele Driving Assistant Professional worden het aantal assistentie- en veiligheidssystemen en standaard functies verder uitgebreid. Zo werkt de Active Cruise Control in combinatie met Driving Assistant Professional tot 180 km/h. Aanvullend zorgt Steering & Lane Control Assistant er tot diezelfde snelheid voor dat de BMW de juiste koers blijft volgen, indien nodig met vloeiende stuurcorrecties. Active Navigation assisteert de overige systemen, bijvoorbeeld door de snelheid van de cruise control aan te passen voor een naderende afrit. Andere beschikbare systemen zijn onder meer Lane Departure Warning, Evasion Assistant, Road Priority Warning, Wrong-way Warning en Crossroads Warning.

Het parkeren wordt nog gemakkelijker en veiliger met de vertrouwde (optionele) systemen Parking Asisstant Plus met Active Park Distance Control en Reversing Assistant. Hiermee kan de BMW i4 zelf parkeerplaatsen herkennen en inparkeren. De BMW i4 voert de manoeuvres bovendien zelf uit, de bestuurder hoeft alleen nog voor alle zekerheid de situatie in de gaten te houden. Bij de Reversing Assistant neemt de BMW het sturen over en hoeft de bestuurder alleen nog de pedalen te bedienen. De aanvullende functies van Parking Assistant Plus zijn onder meer Top View, Panorama View en 3D View met 360 graden en 3D weergaven voor een nog beter overzicht van de situatie rondom de BMW, zelfs op afstand via de smartphone.

Alle systemen zijn eenvoudig te bedienen en te gebruiken, bijvoorbeeld met afzonderlijke toetsen op het multifunctionele stuurwiel. Assisted View in het instrumentenpaneel biedt de bestuurder tot slot een extra overzicht van de geactiveerde systemen en de situatie rond de BMW.

Bij Parking Assistant Plus hoort ook de BMW Drive Recorder. Met behulp van de camera’s van de assistentiesystemen registreert de BMW de situatie rond de auto en slaat beelden van maximaal 40 seconden indien gewenst op. Bij een ongeval worden de beelden automatisch opgeslagen. De beelden zijn terug te kijken via het Control Display en te exporteren via een USB stick.

Lage gebruikskosten.
BMW Group biedt 12 jaar garantie op de carrosserie, terwijl alle slijtagedelen van het onderstel een extreem robuust ontwerp hebben. Bovendien slijten de remmen van de BMW i4 dankzij de energierecuperatie tijdens het afremmen minder snel dan bij een auto met verbrandingsmotor. Verder zijn er minder elementen die onderhoud nodig hebben en de reparatie van kleine schades is eenvoudig, zodat ook die eventuele kosten beperkt blijven. De energie- en gebruikskosten van de BMW i4 zijn onder de streep tot 30 procent lager dan voor een vergelijkbaar model met verbrandingsmotor. Eventuele subsidies zijn hier nog niet bij meegerekend.

Daarnaast biedt BMW Charging een gestandaardiseerde tariefstructuur voor openbare laadstations. Klanten in 19 Europese landen kunnen kiezen tussen de Flex en Active basistarieven. Tot de BMW Charging service behoort hoe dan ook toegang tot snellaadstations. Bij het Active tarief kan de bestuurder voor een bescheiden maandbedrag voordelig opladen bij de laadstations van het steeds verder uitbreidende BMW Charging netwerk. Bovendien geldt bij het Active tarief geen basistarief gedurende de eerste 12 maanden na registratie van een nieuwe BMW i4. Uiteraard zijn ook alle andere producten en diensten van BMW Charging beschikbaar voor de BMW i4.

Productie: flexibiliteit en duurzaamheid in de waardeketen.
De BMW i4 wordt geproduceerd in de BMW Group fabriek in München. De fabriek is met een investering van 200 miljoen euro zodanig aangepast dat de BMW i4 geproduceerd kan worden op dezelfde productielijn als de modellen met verbrandingsmotor en plug-in hybride aandrijving uit de 3 Serie. Bij de productie wordt ook gebruikgemaakt van vele digitale hulpmiddelen, virtual reality en vergaande automatisering. Daarmee is de productie van de BMW i4 een case study voor flexibele, efficiënte en intelligent geïntegreerde productieprocessen. Zo kan de fabriek op ieder moment reageren op veranderende wensen van klanten. Bovendien wordt de fabriek, net als alle andere locaties in het internationale productienetwerk van BMW, van energie voorzien vanuit hernieuwbare bronnen van lokale aanbieders.

De BMW i4 is ontwikkeld volgens een allesomvattend duurzaamheidsconcept. Er wordt gebruikgemaakt van een opmerkelijk groot aandeel hergebruikte materialen en de oorsprong van de grondstoffen wordt nauwkeurig in de gaten gehouden en geregistreerd. Bij de productie van de accucellen en vele andere componenten wordt alleen gebruikgemaakt van hernieuwbare energie. BMW Group produceert het benodigde kobalt en lithium zelf en levert dit vervolgens aan de accucelfabrikanten. Zo is de zorg voor milieu en mensenrechten gegarandeerd. Bovendien wordt het gebruik van kobalt tot een minimum beperkt en zijn er in het geheel geen zeldzame aardmetalen nodig voor de productie van de elektromotoren en accucellen. Deze verantwoordelijkheid voor duurzaamheid in de gehele waardeketen vormt de basis voor echte premium mobiliteit.

Het stroomverbruik van de nieuwe BMW i4 bedraagt gemiddeld 16–24 kWh/100 km. Deze waarden zijn vastgesteld volgens de WLTP cyclus. Alle cijfers met betrekking tot prestaties, stroomverbruik en actieradius zijn voorlopige cijfers.

Munich/Dingolfing. Production of fifth-generation high-voltage batteries and battery modules for use in the BMW iX* and BMW i4 is now underway at the Competence Centre for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing. At the same time, the company is also increasing production capacity for its fifth-generation electric motor, which has been built in Dingolfing for the BMW iX3* since 2020 and will also power the BMW iX* and BMW i4. “We expect at least 50 percent of the vehicles we deliver to our customers worldwide to be electrified by 2030. To achieve this, we are relying on our extensive in-house drive train expertise: We are increasing capacity at existing drive train production locations – like here in Dingolfing – and developing capabilities at others – like recently in Regensburg and Leipzig,” explained Dr Michael Nikolaides, Senior Vice President, Production Engines and E-Drives, BMW Group.

The BMW Group is investing more than 500 million euros in expanding production capacity for e-drives at its Dingolfing location alone between 2020 and 2022. From 2022, it will produce e-drives for more than half a million electrified vehicles. The BMW Group will invest a total of around 790 million euros in expanding capacity for electric powertrain components at its Dingolfing, Leipzig, Regensburg and Steyr locations between 2020 and 2022.

Standard production of the BMW iX* will soon get underway at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, followed by production of the BMW i4 at Plant Munich in the autumn. The highly integrated e-drives and high-voltage batteries for these vehicles will all be manufactured at the Competence Centre for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing. The BMW Group already began producing battery components at Plants Regensburg and Leipzig in April and May 2021. In line with growing demand for e-drives, BMW Group Plants Landshut and Steyr are also stepping up production of e-drive housings.

Production of fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology

The output and energy content of drive units and high-voltage batteries with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology can be flexibly scaled. This means they can be optimally adjusted to suit different model variants.

Each vehicle uses up to two highly integrated e-drives, which combine the electric motor, power electronics and transmission in a single housing. Based on the design principle of a current-excited rotor, the fifth-generation e-drive does not require any materials classified as rare-earth metals.

BMW eDrive technology also comprises a high-voltage battery with state-of-the-art battery cell technology. The BMW Group agreed with its suppliers that they will only use renewable green power for producing fifth-generation battery cells. The entire high-voltage battery boasts outstanding qualities in the areas of performance, charging and discharging characteristics, durability and safety. The technically standardised production process for battery modules has been further developed in such a way that different module variants can be produced on the same production line – in line with the growing range of electrified vehicle models and performance levels. The production systems are highly flexible and scalable. Battery modules are produced from supplied prismatic battery cells at the respective BMW Group production location. A modular system developed in-house allows model-specific high-voltage batteries to be manufactured from these modules in a flexible arrangement.

The company has outstanding expertise and experience, both in the field of battery cell technology and in production of model-specific high-voltage batteries. The BMW Group conducts basic research in the fields of cell chemistry and cell design at its own Battery Cell Competence Centre. The BMW Group also produces battery cell prototypes itself. These battery cell prototypes are used in tests to validate the development maturity of battery cells and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the production processes. In addition, the prototype production of the battery cells serves the identification of process potentials as well as the optimization of the production processes. In this way, the BMW Group gains a thorough understanding of the entire battery cell value chain and the decisive competitive advantages its chemical and technical properties offer. This enables battery cells to be manufactured to precise specifications that are geared towards each vehicle’s individual requirements.

Competence Centre for E-Drive Production

Following extensive expansion, the Competence Centre for E-Drive Production now provides a usable area of 125,000 sq. m. This is where the company manufactures electric motors and the components needed for them, as well as high-voltage batteries and battery modules. A paint coating is also applied to the battery cells at this location. The coating increases mechanical robustness and thermal conductivity, thereby improving insulation and cooling of the even more powerful fifth-generation battery cells.

Plant Dingolfing has been manufacturing standard high-voltage batteries and battery modules since 2013, when the BMW Group's first all-electric vehicle, the BMW i3*, went into production. The first production lines for electric motors and high-voltage batteries for plug-in hybrids went on-stream there in 2014. The Competence Centre for E-Drive Production has been steadily growing ever since. The plant has also been producing high-voltage batteries for the fully electric MINI Cooper SE* since 2019 and, since 2020, also the highly integrated fifth-generation e-drive used for the first time in the BMW iX3*. Production of the even more powerful high-voltage batteries for the BMW iX* and BMW i4 is now getting underway. E-drives for future models can also be produced on the flexible production lines.

Qualification for long-term, sustainable jobs

With the BMW Group systematically pursuing progress in electromobility, the demands on employees and their areas of responsibility are also constantly evolving. “We are growing our staff for e-drive production almost exclusively through personnel restructuring. We are actively shaping the transformation process and leveraging our employees’ skills so we can develop long-term sustainable jobs,” explains Nikolaides.

The Competence Centre for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing currently has almost 1,400 employees. By the end of 2021, around 1,900 employees are expected to work in e-drive production in Dingolfing.

Production employees receive further training at the in-house learning centre, which uses innovative vocational training and further education methods to provide employees with intensive preparation for their new tasks. Employees’ knowledge and skills are being expanded specifically to include new electromobility technologies, with a training concept that is constantly updated. The training sessions are held in the classroom, at practice workstations and directly on the production lines. Digital methods and augmented reality play a bigger role here than ever before. Thanks to these methods, the training courses were also able to continue safely during the coronavirus pandemic, in compliance with health and safety measures.

“The learning centre takes a holistic approach that supports employees throughout their professional development and further education, from their first day in production,” reports Dr Sven Jochmann, head of Production E-Drives Dingolfing, Landshut, Regensburg, Leipzig. “As well as trainers and managers, new colleagues are also supported by trained mentors who help them quickly find their way around their new working environment,” adds Jochmann.

Transformation of the Dingolfing location

The Dingolfing location is a prime example of the successful transformation of the BMW Group plants towards e-mobility and digitalisation. E-drive production, including electric motors and high-voltage batteries, is located in an existing, roughly 50-year-old building at the site, rather than using new space. The infrastructure was adapted to the new requirements and expanded accordingly. A modern staff restaurant seats 300 and there is also a new parking deck with space for 800 vehicles. The structural measures are rounded out by a 25,000 sq. m. logistics hall, new office spaces and social rooms close to the production area, as well as an additional plant gate in the south for improved logistics flows.

On the issue of sustainability, the BMW Group takes a holistic approach to reducing CO₂ emissions and minimising resource consumption that covers the entire value chain, including in-house production, the supply chain and use phase. In Dingolfing, as at all BMW Group locations, production uses only green power. In addition, all BMW Group locations have been net carbon neutral since this year, through corresponding offsets and certificates. The company is also using many other levers: from building technology to energy-efficient installations to increased use of renewable energies. Electric trucks will be used for intra-company goods transport at the Competence Centre for E-Drive Production from the autumn.

2030: At least 50 percent of global BMW Group sales will be fully electric

The BMW Group continues its massive electromobility ramp-up: The company will offer five fully-electric models by the end of this year: the BMW i3*, the MINI Cooper SE* and the BMW iX3*, as well as the two main innovation flagships, the BMW iX* and BMW i4.

Between now and 2025, the BMW Group will increase its sales of fully-electric models by an average of well over 50 percent per year – more than ten times the number of units sold in 2020. Based on its current market forecast, the company also expects at least 50 percent of its global sales to come from fully-electric vehicles in 2030. In total, over the next ten years or so, the BMW Group will be releasing about ten million fully-electric vehicles onto the roads.

Global e-drive production network with a focus in Germany

The high-voltage batteries and battery components needed for all BMW and MINI electrified vehicles come from the company’s own battery factories in Dingolfing, Leipzig and Regensburg in Germany, as well as from Spartanburg (USA) and Shenyang (China). The BMW Group has also localised production of high-voltage batteries in Thailand, at its Rayong plant, and is working with the Dräxlmaier Group for this. Munich is home to the e-drive pilot plant and the Battery Cell Competence Centre, where the BMW Group is conducting a full analysis of battery cell value creation processes and advancing technology for its production processes.

The new model will celebrate its world premiere in real-life, series-produced form as the centrepiece of BMW’s presence in Shanghai, and its market launch in China will get underway over the course of 2021. The BMW Group’s new technology flagship embodies the company’s innovative talents in the areas of design, electric mobility, driving pleasure, sustainability, luxury and connectivity.

The BMW iX is first model in the brand’s line-up to feature the new Operating System 8 and the latest generation of BMW iDrive, which turns the interaction between the driver and vehicle into an intuitive, personal and emotionally engaging experience. At the same time, Operating System 8 provides the basis for the seamless integration of additional digital services. The enhanced possibilities for using market-specific apps in China that this enables brings another focal point to BMW’s presentation at Auto Shanghai 2021. The BMW iX: opening the gates to a new era of personal mobility.
The physical world premiere of the BMW iX provides visitors to Auto Shanghai 2021 with a window into a new era of personal mobility. Developed around the BMW Group’s new, modular scalable toolkit as a modern Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the new model espouses a future-focused view of design, sustainability, driving pleasure, versatility and luxury. The BMW iX is wrapped in a clean-sheet design majoring on precision and minimalism. It combines the locally emission-free driving pleasure and sporting agility provided by electric all-wheel drive and a persuasive operating range with a character profile dedicated to sustainability from the ground up. This covers the whole lifecycle of the vehicle – from the sourcing of raw materials through manufacturing and use to subsequent recycling.

The BMW iX will be offered in two model variants when it goes on sale in late 2021. The electric motors fitted in the BMW iX xDrive50 and BMW iX xDrive40 are – like the power electronics, charging technology and high-voltage batteries – the product of fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. This means output, dynamism, long-range driving ability and efficiency are all outstanding. The electric all-wheel drive of the BMW iX xDrive50 channels maximum output of more than 370 kW/500 hp to the road, enabling acceleration of 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 5.0 seconds, while also posting a range of more than 600 kilometres (373 miles) and power consumption below 21 kWh per 100 kilometres in the WLTP test cycle. The BMW iX xDrive40 has an output of more than 240 kW/300 hp and completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a shade over 6.0 seconds. Its range is in excess of 400 kilometres (249 miles) and consumption less than 20.0 kWh per 100 kilometres. Like its electric all-wheel drive, the versatile interior of the new car also fits the character of a modern SAV. The vehicle concept and design of the BMW iX attaches a whole new level of focus to the needs of those on board. The car has been developed from the inside out. Its interior offers innovative options for using the time during a journey – and enjoying relaxation, safety, security, and a new form of luxury in the process.

The new technology toolkit, making its debut in the BMW iX, also underpins significant advances in the areas of connectivity and digital services. For example, the tech is designed to be able to process 20 times more data than existing models. And that means many times more sensor data can be processed. The sensor technology itself is likewise more powerful than ever. The BMW iX is also 5G-capable, enabling fast and reliable transfer of large quantities of data between the vehicle and the BMW Cloud.

The new generation of BMW iDrive lays on an all-encompassing, intelligent, multi-sensory experience tailored to the driver. A natural dialogue is created between the user and their vehicle with the aim of precisely tailoring all the functions controlled via BMW iDrive to the driver’s needs and preferences as the situation demands.

For many years now, BMW has offered customers around the world extensive integration of digital services from third-party providers via its iDrive system. Market-specific applications and services have also been integrated seamlessly into the vehicle’s operating system. Display and operation here will be familiar to customers from their smartphones. As well as the offerings from Apple and Google, apps relevant to the Chinese market provided by local platforms are also integrated. The introduction of BMW Operating System 8 and the latest iDrive generation takes the integration of services from Chinese platform Tencent, in particular, to a new level.

The Operating System 7 found in existing BMW models already enables integration of applications from Tencent which are extremely popular in China. The key ingredient here is the mini program platform from Tencent, which allows digital services in the areas of communication, travel, entertainment, infotainment, edutainment and gaming to be integrated seamlessly into the vehicle’s operating system. New features presented with the introduction of the latest-generation BMW iDrive include the newly developed integration of digital communication service WeChat.

Like the mini program platform as a whole, the WeChat application is integrated natively into the BMW Operating System. This means the functions included in the WeChat app can be operated in extremely user-friendly fashion via the on-board iDrive system, and are viewed on the BMW Curved Display in the familiar way. The various content is shown according to need and context on the information display or control display in the digital screen grouping. The individual functions can be activated quickly and intuitively via the operating system’s selectable apps menu.

The new integrated applications from Tencent will be available from the launch of the BMW iX in China. The initial range of WeChat functions that can be used comfortably, easily and safely in the vehicle via these applications include WeChat phone calls, voice messaging and sharing of location data, which can then be adopted immediately as a navigation destination. Additional functions and apps will also be integrated into the BMW Operating System and updated using the Tencent mini program platform in the future. Stylish luxury for China: the BMW 7 Series Two-Tone special-edition model.
A new special edition of the BMW 7 Series embodying a unique combination of luxury, poise and exclusivity is set to be unveiled for the first time at Auto Shanghai 2021. The BMW 7 Series Two-Tone exudes an exceptionally stylish allure with its Cashmere Silver metallic/Aventurine Red metallic paintwork. The luxury sedan is based on the 12-cylinder BMW M760Li xDrive and will be produced in a limited run of just 25 examples exclusively for customers in China.

As well as BMW’s market-specific interpretation of exclusive driving enjoyment, visitors to Auto Shanghai 2021 will also be greeted by the latest expression of race-car thrills for everyday use – as BMW M GmbH presents its new high-performance sports cars for the premium midsize segment. At Auto Shanghai 2021 the BMW i4 will offer a first impression of the BMW i4 with the M Sport equipment line set to be made available in China and other markets.
The BMW i4 is a fully electric four-door gran coupé, whose market launch is scheduled for 2021. Its perfect balance of customary BMW sporting ability, long-distance comfort and sustainable performance is unique in this segment. The BMW i4 model range will include a selection of variants enabling a range of up to 590 km / 367 miles in the WLTP cycle or up to 300 miles in EPA testing. The BMW i4 develops output of up to 390 kW /530 hp, enabling it to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in four seconds.

Munich. When an ideal balance is called for between dynamics and ride comfort, the BMW 3 Series and 4 Series models consistently set the benchmark within their segments in the premium market. In terms of electrically powered vehicles, the new BMW i4 is set to take on this role very soon. The first purely electrically powered 4-door Gran Coupé enriches locally emission-free mobility with sheer driving pleasure.

“For the first time, we’ve developed a BMW with sporty DNA for purely electric driving entirely from scratch,” explains project manager David Alfredo Ferrufino Camacho. “The BMW i4 offers everything BMW stands for – and it’s fully electric, too.”  

A few months prior to its world premiere, the BMW i4 is currently completing the final phase of driving dynamics testing. The focus here is on the integrated application of all drive and suspension components, ensuring that the spontaneous power delivery of the electric motor is combined with precisely controllable handling in every situation, fascinating cornering dynamics, optimised traction in all weather and road conditions and perfectly balanced ride comfort. For the purpose of this fine-tuning process, the BMW Group applies its technological expertise in the areas of drive and suspension drawn from decades of experience. This gives the new BMW i4 a mature premium character and makes for a driving experience that is unique within the competitive environment.

Excitingly calm: sprinting with the BMW i4.
With a maximum output of up to 390 kW/530 hp, the electric powertrain in the BMW i4 enables impressive acceleration manoeuvres: it reaches the 100 km/h mark in just four seconds from standstill. But even more impressive than its pure sprint capacity is the driving response it conveys. A model-specific damper technology reduces the dipping movements of the body at the moment of set-off, while the actuator-related wheel slip limitation (ARB) developed by BMW with its extremely fast and precise control guarantees optimum traction and perfect straight-line stability at all times – even on slippery road surfaces. This makes the catapult-like sprint in the new BMW i4 an experience that is both exciting and carefree, because it is not affected by drive slip or course corrections.

However, fascinating acceleration is only one aspect of the superior performance characteristics that define the BMW i4. Other distinguishing features include its spontaneous reactions to every movement – not just of the accelerator pedal but also of the steering and the brake pedal. The prerequisites for this high level of agility and precision are anchored in the underlying vehicle concept of the BMW i4. This includes the car's long wheelbase, wide track widths, model-specific camber values, large wheels, as well as the high torsional rigidity and the vehicle’s low centre of gravity and weight balance.

Effortless precision: taking the bend on the ideal line.
All these parameters were taken into account in detail in the integrated application of the drive and suspension components so as to ensure hallmark BMW sporty flair in every situation on the road. The design and tuning of the suspension and damping systems consistently ensure optimum road contact. At the same time, the virtually silent drive in combination with the sophisticated suspension technology gives the impression of an effortlessly floating vehicle even at higher speeds, entirely unaffected by bumps in the road or difficult traction conditions.

“The BMW i4 conveys the feeling of being light and agile yet also solid and authoritative,” says project manager David Alfredo Ferrufino Camacho. “With its superior directional reliability and high level of cornering stability, it seems to literally attach itself to the road. All electric vehicles are capable of fast straight-line acceleration. But that’s not enough for us at BMW.”

The BMW i4 is also effortlessly controllable – even in highly dynamic driving situations. In addition to its neutral self-steering behaviour and its powerful, precisely controllable brakes, the steering in the BMW i4 is a major contributing factor here: it responds directly and with a high degree of accuracy, offering the driver precise feedback at all times while remaining entirely independent of drive forces, even during intensive acceleration or deceleration. Lane changes at high speeds are mastered with ease, while relaxed driving over long distances is ensured by the speed-related Servotronic power steering and the fact that the vehicle is largely insusceptible to any disruption caused by road bumps.

The distinctive driving dynamics of the BMW i4 derive partly from the fact that its performance characteristics are not achieved at the expense of driving comfort. The purely electrically powered Gran Coupé is characterised by unrestricted suitability for day-to-day use. Fitted with a high-voltage storage system featuring the latest battery cell technology that enables a range of up to 600 kilometres (WLTP), the chassis technology of the BMW i4 is designed for long-distance comfort, too. It is based on the high-quality damper technology, supplemented with model-specific components and separately tuned. This effectively reduces body vibrations due to road unevenness and on bends. The model-specific fine-tuning of the suspension and damping contributes significantly to the harmonious driving characteristics of the BMW i4.
