München. Herfst 2025 brengt herziene aandrijflijnen, nieuwe functies en praktische details naar het huidige BMW modellengamma. De instapmodellen in de wereld van BMW M – de BMW M240i xDrive Coupé evenals de bijbehorende modellen in de BMW 3 Serie en 4 Serie – zullen in de toekomst krachtigere en zuinigere benzinemotoren hebben. In de BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé en de BMW i4 zullen de optionele Adaptieve LED-koplampen nu ook laserachterlichten bevatten.

Meer vermogen, verminderd verbruik voor BMW M240i xDrive Coupé en de instapmodellen in de wereld van BMW M in de BMW 3 Serie en BMW 4 Serie.
Herfst 2025 zal zowel de BMW M340i xDrive Sedan als de BMW M340i xDrive Touring voorzien van een krachtigere variant van de 3.0-liter zes-in-lijnbenzinemotor. Deze heeft nu een vermogen van 288 kW/392 pk, waarbij het Mild Hybrid systeem 9 kW/12 pk bijdraagt. De totale vermogensstijging ten opzichte van het vorige model is 13 kW/18 pk. Het maximale koppel is ook verhoogd met 40 Nm, tot 540 Nm.

Deze herziene aandrijflijn zal in de toekomst ook worden gebruikt in de BMW M440i xDrive, de BMW M440i xDrive Cabriolet en de BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé.

De vermogensstijging zorgt voor nog dynamischere prestaties in de hierboven genoemde BMW 3 Serie en BMW 4 Serie modellen. Het verkort de tijd die elk model nodig heeft om van 0 naar 100 km/u te accelereren met 0,1 seconde. Hierdoor kan de BMW M340i xDrive Sedan deze sprint nu in slechts 4,3 seconden uitvoeren. De BMW M240i xDrive Coupé is nu ook uitgerust met deze krachtigere motor.

Naast de vermogensstijging profiteren alle modellen van een significante toename in motor efficiëntie. Hierdoor daalt het WLTP brandstofverbruik van de BMW M240i xDrive Coupé bijvoorbeeld van 8,8–8,7 liter/100 km naar 8,0 liter/100 km. De CO2-uitstoot is eveneens verminderd, van de vorige 200–199 g/km naar 183 g/km. Onderaan het persbericht is het gehele overzicht te vinden voor alle brandstofverbruik en emissiecijfers van de nieuwe aandrijflijnen.

Nieuwe exterieurkleuren voor de BMW 2 Serie Gran Coupé, Adaptieve LED-koplampen beschikbaar voor meer modellen van de BMW 4 Serie en aanvullende praktische toevoeging voor de BMW 5 Serie familie.
Vanaf herfst 2025 zal een extra exterieurkleur beschikbaar zijn als optie voor alle versies van de BMW 2 Serie Gran Coupé met het M Sport Design- of het M Sportpakket. Cape York Grun kan voor het eerst worden besteld in combinatie met deze uitrustingsniveaus.

De optionele Adaptieve LED-koplampen voor de BMW 4 Serie Gran Coupé en BMW i4 zullen ook genieten van een significante upgrade. Naast koplampen die de weg in elke situatie gelijkmatig verlichten, zal deze optie nu ook laserachterlichten bevatten. Bovendien zijn Adaptieve LED-koplampen ook beschikbaar als een individuele optie zonder het M Sport pakket Pro voor de BMW 420i, BMW 420d en BMW 420d xDrive.

In combinatie met Veganza en Merino bekleding, omvat de uitgebreide standaarduitrusting in de BMW X3 nu ook achterhoofdsteunen en zijsecties van de tweede zitrij in de bekledingskleur. Dit verhoogt de premium uitstraling van het BMW X3 interieur verder.

Alle BMW 5 Serie, BMW i5 en BMW M5 Sedan en Touring modellen zullen in de toekomst een zeer handige functie bieden. Een kledinghaak op de B-stijl bekleding, standaard meegeleverd, maakt het vervoeren van jassen en mantels bijzonder eenvoudig.

Verbeteringen met betrekking tot BMW Connected Drive.
Vanaf herfst 2025 zal de Laadgids in het Explore-tabblad van de My BMW app relevante hulp bieden over alle aspecten van laden – bijvoorbeeld "Hoe laad ik?", of "Hoe optimaliseer ik het laden?" Dit helpt om laadstops zo comfortabel en efficiënt mogelijk te maken.

BMW Maps laad-geoptimaliseerde routeplanning voor volledig elektrische voertuigen is nu ook beschikbaar in BMW voertuigen met Operating System 8 en 8.5 in Bulgarije, Kroatië, Griekenland, Roemenië, Servië en Singapore.

Rijswijk. De eerste exemplaren van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring en BMW i5 Touring zijn enkele dagen geleden geleverd aan klanten in Europa en Japan. De sportieve allrounder in het hogere premium middensegment wordt nu in de zesde generatie voor het eerst geïntroduceerd als de volledig elektrische BMW i5 Touring. Bij de showroomintroductie zijn twee modellen met puur elektrische aandrijving en twee met zeer efficiënte viercilinder dieselmotoren beschikbaar. Tegen de zomer van 2024 wordt het aanbod van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring en Sedan uitgebreid met meerdere modellen met plug-in hybride aandrijving en een zescilinder lijndieselmotor. De belangrijkste nieuwe variant voor de Nederlandse markt daarin is de volledig nieuwe BMW 530e Touring met een systeemvermogen van 220 kW/299pk en een maximale range tot wel 89 kilometer op basis van de WLTP-testcyclus. De BMW 530e Touring is met een consumentenadviesprijs vanaf € 72.444,- nu beschikbaar bij de BMW dealer.

De Beierse premiumautofabrikant zet de elektrificatie van haar modellengamma systematisch voort met de BMW i5 Touring en de binnenkort verkrijgbare Plug-in Hybride versies van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring. Het topmodel is de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring met maximaal 442 kW/601 pk. Naast het topmodel staat de nieuwe BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring met een vermogen tot 250 kW/340 pk en een actieradius van maximaal 560 kilometer, volgens de WLTP-testcyclus.

Daarnaast zijn de BMW 520d Touring en de BMW 520d xDrive Touring reeds beschikbaar. Hun viercilinder dieselmotor wordt gecombineerd met 48-volt Mild Hybrid-technologie en ontwikkelt een maximaal vermogen van 145 kW/197 pk.

Plug-in Hybride aandrijving en BMW xDrive voor Sedan- en Touringmodellen
Plug-in Hybride technologie wordt geïntroduceerd in de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring in de zomer van 2024. Er zullen twee modellen beschikbaar komen. De nieuwe BMW 530e Touring brengt het systeemvermogen van zijn twee motoren over op de achterwielen via een 8-traps Steptronic transmissie. In de nieuwe BMW 530e xDrive Touring zorgt intelligente BMW xDrive vierwielaandrijving voor optimale tractie, wendbaarheid en rijstabiliteit onder alle omstandigheden. Vanaf de zomer van 2024 is deze combinatie van aandrijflijntechnologie ook beschikbaar in de BMW 5 Serie Sedan.

De aandrijflijn van de drie nieuwe modellen bestaat uit een viercilinder benzinemotor en een elektromotor die is geïntegreerd in de 8-traps Steptronic transmissie, die samen een systeemvermogen van 220 kW/299 pk genereren. De hoogvoltage batterij levert een bruikbare energie-inhoud van 19,4 kWh en maakt een elektrische actieradius mogelijk op basis van de WLTP-testcyclus van 84 tot 96 kilometer voor de nieuwe BMW 530e Touring, 82 tot 89 kilometer voor de nieuwe BMW 530e xDrive Touring en 85 tot 94 kilometer voor de nieuwe BMW 530e xDrive Sedan.

De BMW 530e Touring beschikt in deze nieuwe generatie over een gelijk kofferbakvolume als de BMW 5 Serie Touring met alleen een verbrandingsmotor. Dankzij de ruimtebesparende plaatsing van de hoogvoltage batterij in de vloer van de auto zijn de lengte, breedte en hoogte van de volledig vlakke bagageruimte gelijk aan die van de modellen met verbrandingsmotor en volledig elektrische aandrijving. De bagageruimte is 570 liter met alle stoelen bezet en kan indien nodig worden uitgebreid tot 1.700 liter. Een ander voordeel van deze plaatsing van de batterij is dat de BMW 530e Touring over een brandstoftank beschikt van 60 liter, gelijk aan een BMW 5 Serie Touring met alleen een verbrandingsmotor. De nieuwe BMW 530e Touring heeft een consumentenadviesprijs vanaf € 72.444,- consumentenadviesprijs en is per direct te bestellen bij de BMW dealer.

Beschikbaar vanaf zomer 2024: zescilinder lijndieselmotor in de BMW 5 Serie
Het motorengamma dat beschikbaar is voor de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan- en Touring wordt verder nog uitgebreid met een zescilinder dieselmotor in de zomer van 2024. De aandrijflijn van de BMW 540d xDrive Sedan en BMW 540d xDrive Touring van de nieuwste generatie dieselmotoren van BMW Group wordt gecombineerd met 48-volt Mild Hybrid technologie. Samen genereren de verbrandingsmotor en de elektromotor die is geïntegreerd in de Steptronic transmissie met 8 versnellingen een maximaal systeemvermogen van 223 kW/303 pk en een maximumkoppel van 670 Nm.

Het koppel wordt volledig variabel verdeeld over alle vier de wielen via de intelligente BMW xDrive vierwielaandrijving. De dynamische vermogensafgifte van de zescilinder dieselmotor en de superieure krachtoverbrenging komen tot uiting in de acceleratietijd van 5,2 seconden van nul naar 100 km/u voor de BMW 540d xDrive Sedan en een tijd van 5,4 seconden voor de BMW 540d xDrive Touring.

The M Performance light alloy wheels available for the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the all-electric BMW i5 Touring are ideally suited to a sporty driving style and make for a highly distinctive look. Both summer wheel with tyre sets and winter wheel with tyre sets in the dimensions 19, 20 and 21 inches are available.

Consistente elektrificatie en digitale innovaties.
De BMW 5 Serie toont zijn vooruitstrevende karakter met zijn aandrijflijntechnologie, zijn innovatieve digitale diensten, evenals een elegant sportief ontwerp, royale ruimte in de auto, geoptimaliseerd akoestisch comfort en een vooruitstrevende premium sfeer voor het interieur. Geavanceerde assistentiesystemen zoals de Highway Assistant met actieve Lane Change Assistant met oogbevestiging benadrukken de langeafstandskwaliteiten van de BMW 5 Serie. Tot op heden is de Lane Change Assistant met oogbevestiging alleen beschikbaar voor de Verenigde Staten, Canada en Duitsland. Met het display en het bedienings- en bedieningssysteem BMW iDrive met QuickSelect, het BMW Curved Display en de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant met uitgebreide functionaliteit aan boord, is de i5 volledig ingesteld voor interactie tussen de gebruiker en de auto via aanraak- en spraakbediening. Als de auto stilstaat, kunnen de inzittenden van de BMW 5 Serie het uitgebreide aanbod aan videostreaming op het bedieningsdisplay verkennen en genieten van een nieuwe vorm van gamen in de auto — bijvoorbeeld als vermaak tijdens het opladen van de hoogspanningsbatterij.

Als volledig geïntegreerd lid van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie modellengamma biedt de BMW i5 lokaal emissievrij rijplezier. De rijdynamiek en efficiëntie van de BMW i5 vinden hun oorsprong in de BMW eDrive-technologie van de vijfde generatie. Dit omvat sterk geïntegreerde aandrijfeenheden en hoogspanningsbatterijen met een hoge energiedichtheid. Bovendien helpen de nieuwste evolutie van adaptieve recuperatie en een intelligente combinatie van warmtepomptechnologie voor het verwarmen en koelen van het interieur, het aandrijfsysteem en de hoogspanningsbatterij de auto om in de WLTP-cyclus een actieradius van maximaal 579 kilometer te bereiken, afhankelijk van het model en de specificatie. De Combined Charging Unit van de BMW i5 maakt AC-opladen mogelijk met een snelheid van maximaal 22 kW en DC-opladen met maximaal 205 kW. Dit betekent dat men in slechts 10 minuten 156 kilometer kunnen bijladen wanneer de auto is aangesloten op een snellaadstation.

Het volledige portfolio van verbrandingsmotoren is ook geëlektrificeerd. Dankzij een flexibel ontworpen aandrijfarchitectuur die vanaf het begin openstond voor verschillende technologieën, kan de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan voor het eerst worden aangeboden als een volledig elektrisch model, met plug-in hybride systemen en met zeer efficiënte benzine- en dieselmotoren. De verbrandingsmotoren van de nieuwe modulaire generatie BMW Group Efficient Dynamics-motoren zijn allemaal voorzien van de nieuwste versie van 48-volt mild hybrid-technologie.

BMW wint haar negende titel bij de World Car Awards.
De World Car Awards werden 20 jaar geleden in het leven geroepen om, naast nationale en regionale onderscheidingen, te staan als erkenning voor uitmuntende innovaties en nieuwe producten op de automarkten wereldwijd. Dit jaar werden de awards in totaal in vijf categorieën uitgereikt, naast de hoofdprijs.

In de loop der jaren heeft BMW acht overwinningen behaald bij de World Car Awards. Een van de overwinnaars was de BMW 7 Serie, die in 2016 werd bekroond tot World Luxury Car. In 2018 werd de titel World Performance Car uitgereikt aan de BMW M5. Deze negende titeloverwinning is de laatste in een lange reeks onderscheidingen die de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie de afgelopen maanden heeft behaald. Alleen al de volledig elektrische versie heeft in totaal 3 “Auto van het Jaar”-prijzen (uit Noorwegen, Denemarken en Italië) weten te bemachtigen.

Rijswijk. De BMW 5 Serie Touring, het toonbeeld van rijplezier, sportieve elegantie en moderne functionaliteit in het premium hogere middensegment, gaat een nieuw tijdperk in. De zesde generatie van de BMW 5 Serie Touring is vooruitstrevender dan ooit, met talrijke digitale innovaties, baanbrekende systemen voor automatisch rijden en parkeren, duurzamer gedurende de hele levenscyclus van het product en, voor het eerst, volledig elektrisch in de vorm van de BMW i5 Touring. Dynamisch uitgestrekte proporties en royaal gevormde oppervlakken, de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring heeft een atletisch zijaanzicht dat wordt bepaald door een hoge schouderlijn, krachtig gevormde achterwielkasten en twee nauwkeurig geplaatste karakterlijnen. Het geheel wordt gecomplementeerd door een dakspoiler en een slanke D-stijl. In vergelijking met zijn voorganger is de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring 97 millimeter langer (5.060 millimeter), 32 millimeter breder (1.900 millimeter) en 17 millimeter hoger (1.515 millimeter). De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring heeft de langste wielbasis in zijn klasse, met een toename van 20 millimeter naar 2.995 millimeter.

De opvallende voorzijde is voorzien van een moderne interpretatie van de kenmerkende dubbele koplampen en iconische BMW nierengrille. Twee verticale LED elementen dienen respectievelijk als richtingaanwijzer en dagrijverlichting. De BMW nierengrille, die ver naar voren uitsteekt, is voorzien van optionele BMW Iconic Glow nierengrilleverlichting. De achterlichten op de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring kenmerken zich door de bekende L-vorm. De zijdorpel en achterbumper hebben beide een donkere afwerking aan de onderzijde waardoor de gehele carrosserie lager oogt. Hierdoor krijgt de auto een sportief silhouette.

Het lakassortiment omvat vanaf het begin van de productie drie BMW Individual exterieurkleuren. De standaarduitrusting van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring omvat lichtmetalen wielen van 18 inch voor de Mild Hybrid benzine- en dieselmodellen en 19 inch voor de volledig elektrische en de Plug-in Hybride modellen. Optioneel zijn lichtmetalen wielen tot 21 inch verkrijgbaar. Het dynamische karakter van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring kan verder worden benadrukt met het M Sportpakket, M Sportpakket Pro en M Carbon Exterieur pakket. Als topmodel in de serie is de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring standaard voorzien van exterieurcomponenten die de uitstekende rijdynamiek duidelijk tot uitdrukking brengen.

Progressief ontworpen dashboard, volledig veganistisch interieur.
Het hart van het vooruitstrevende, op de bestuurder gerichte interieurontwerp wordt gevormd door het BMW Curved Display. Het 12,3-inch informatiedisplay en het bedieningsdisplay met een schermdiagonaal van 14,9 inch vormen een volledig digitale cockpit. De moderne premium sfeer in het interieur wordt nog verder versterkt door de nieuwe sportstoelen met stoelverwarming die standaard zijn gemonteerd, het stuurwiel, dat nu platter is aan de onderkant, en de optionele BMW Interaction Bar. De BMW Interaction Bar is standaard op de elektrische varianten van de BMW 5 Serie Touring.

De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring heeft standaard een volledig veganistisch interieur. De zitvlakken in Veganza zijn optioneel ook verkrijgbaar met een decoratieve perforatie. Daarnaast is er optioneel ook keuze uit BMW Individual Merino lederen bekleding in verschillende tweekleurige varianten. Andere hoogtepunten van het optionele uitrustingsprogramma zijn het glazen panoramadak, Crafted Clarity bedieningelementen en het Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System met maximaal 18 luidsprekers.

Geoptimaliseerde functionaliteit voor dagelijks gebruik, vrije tijd en reizen.
De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring biedt meer ruimte dan zijn voorganger en merkbaar meer been-, schouder- en elleboogruimte, vooral achterin, en geoptimaliseerd akoestisch comfort. Met zijn veelzijdige interieur en talrijke intelligente functies is de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring op de weg net zo indrukwekkend als bij dagelijks gebruik.

Een bredere opening in de bagageruimte in combinatie met een lage dorpel maakt het gemakkelijk om grote bagagestukken op te bergen. Ongeacht hun aandrijflijntechnologie hebben alle varianten van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring een bagageruimtevolume dat kan worden uitgebreid van 570 tot 1.700 liter. Naast de automatische bediening van de achterklep is het ook standaard om de rugleuning van de 40:20:40 achterbank vanuit de bagageruimte naar voren te klappen. De opbergvakken onder de bagageruimtevloer bieden ruimte voor het scheidingsnet voor de bagageruimte, de bagageruimteafdekking en de oplaadkabel voor de volledig elektrische en Plug-in Hybride modellen.

Unieke propositie in het segment: De volledig elektrische BMW i5 Touring is vanaf het begin verkrijgbaar in twee varianten.
De nieuwe BMW i5 Touring is de eerste volledig elektrische premium stationwagen in zijn klasse. Vanaf het begin zijn twee versies beschikbaar. In de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring vormen twee sterke elektromotoren op de voor- en achteras samen voor een systeemvermogen van maximaal 442 kW/601 pk. Als M Launch Control of M Sport Boost is geactiveerd, wordt het systeemkoppel tijdelijk verhoogd van 795 Nm tot 820 Nm. Het topmodel accelereert vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u in 3,9 seconden en de topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 230 km/h. De elektromotor van de BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring bevindt zich op de achteras en genereert een maximaal vermogen van 250 kW/340 pk en een maximumkoppel van maximaal 430 Nm met Sport Boost- of Launch Control-functie. De BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring accelereert in 6,1 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u.

In beide modellen heeft het accupakket een bruikbare energie inhoud van 81,2 kWh. Naast de efficiënte elektromotoren dragen adaptieve recuperatie en warmtepomptechnologie voor het verwarmen en koelen van het interieur en de aandrijving bij aan de actieradius van de BMW i5 Touring. De actieradius op basis van de WLTP-testcyclus bedraagt tot 506 kilometer voor de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring en tot 560 kilometer voor de BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring. 

Innovatieve laadoplossingen van BMW Charging.
De accu kan worden opgeladen met AC wisselstroom met een vermogen tot maximaal 11 kW als standaard en optioneel tot 22 kW (standaard voor BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring). De hoogspanningsbatterij kan worden opgeladen met DC gelijkstroom tot een vermogen van maximaal 205 kW. Anticiperend thermisch beheer voor de hoogspanningsbatterij optimaliseert de efficiëntie bij het gebruik van snellaadstations. De BMW i5 Touring is ook geschikt voor de Plug & Charge bij geschikte laadpalen.

Nieuwe dieselmotoren met 48-volt Mild Hybrid-technologie.
Alle dieselmotoren die beschikbaar zijn voor de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring worden gecombineerd met 48-volt Mild Hybrid systeem en een achttraps BMW Steptronic automatische sporttransmissie met schakelflippers achter het stuurwiel. De viercilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor van de BMW 520d Touring die beschikbaar is bij de marktintroductie genereert een maximaal vermogen van 145 kW/197 pk en een maximumkoppel van 400 Nm. Naar wens van de klant is dit model ook beschikbaar met BMW xDrive vierwielaandrijving in de vorm van de BMW 520d xDrive Touring. Uitbreiding van het aandrijflijnenportfolio volgt in de zomer van 2024 met een Plug-in Hybride variant en een zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor.

De ideale balans tussen sportiviteit en reiscomfort.
Het rijplezier in de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring is gebaseerd op een ideale balans tussen sportiviteit en reiscomfort. Met de langste wielbasis in zijn segment, grote spoorbreedtes, een bijna perfect uitgebalanceerde 50:50 gewichtsverdeling, intelligente lichtgewicht constructie en geoptimaliseerde stijfheid van de verbinding tussen carrosserie en chassis, is de BMW 5 Serie Touring de ideale allrounder. De sterk verbeterde ondersteltechnologie omvat standaard direct geregelde wielslipbegrenzing en de nieuwste versie van het geïntegreerde remsysteem. De BMW i5 Touring en de Plug-in Hybride modellen beschikken altijd standaard over luchtvering op de achteras, inclusief automatische niveauregeling.

Het M Sport onderstel, een M sportremsysteem en het Adaptieve Onderstel Professional (standaard in de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring) met elektronisch geregelde schokdempers, geïntegreerde achterwielbesturing (tot 2,5 graden) en nieuwe onderstel dynamiek zijn als optionele uitrusting verkrijgbaar. Het M Adaptieve onderstel Professional met Active Roll Stabilization en Active Roll Comfort is optioneel beschikbaar voor de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring.

Innovatieve systemen voor automatisch rijden en parkeren.
De systemen voor semi-automatisch rijden en parkeren die standaard of als optie beschikbaar zijn voor de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring, bepalen de norm in het segment met hun scala aan functies, betrouwbaarheid en dagelijkse voordelen. In de Verenigde Staten, Canada en Duitsland is voor het eerst de Highway Assistant beschikbaar waarmee de auto volledig het sturen op de snelweg kan overnemen. Een wereldprimeur daarbij is Active Lane Change Assistant met ‘oogbediening’. (deze functionaliteit is in Nederland niet beschikbaar) De BMW stelt voor om van rijstrook te wisselen indien de verkeerssituatie dit nodig maakt en voor het eerst is het voor de bestuurder voldoende om in de buitenspiegel te kijken om de manoeuvre te bevestigen alsmede te activeren.

De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Touring is standaard uitgerust met de parkeerassistent inclusief trailerassistent en achteruitrijcamera. Met Parking Assistant Professional kunnen parkeer- en manoeuvreermanoeuvres van maximaal 200 meter buiten het voertuig via een smartphone bedient worden.

MW iDrive met “QuickSelect”, videostreaming, AirConsole-games.
Het verbeterde BMW iDrive display en besturingssysteem op basis van BMW Operating System 8.5 biedt een opnieuw ontworpen startscherm en de “QuickSelect” functionaliteit. De combinatie van het BMW Curved Display en de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is ontworpen voor bediening via touchscreen en via spraaksturing. De standaard BMW Live Cockpit Plus bevat het cloudgebaseerde navigatiesysteem BMW Maps. De optionele BMW Live Cockpit Professional omvat onder andere het BMW Head-Up Display. De nieuwe BMW iDrive maakt onder andere ook het gebruik mogelijk van een innovatieve vorm van gamen in de auto met het gamingplatform AirConsole.

Woodcliff Lake / Munich. BMW will return to the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11, 2024 with a new 60-second advertisement for the all-new generation of the iconic BMW 5 Series, highlighted by the first-ever, 100%-electric BMW i5. The star-studded commercial entitled “Talkin’ Like Walken,” also features another icon –  Hollywood icon Christopher Walken – along with actress Ashley Park (Emily in Paris, Beef, Joy Ride), and GRAMMY^® Award Winning global superstar and Super Bowl LVIII halftime performer, USHER.

The 60-second spot plays off of Walken’s instantly recognizable voice and signature speech cadence, following the actor throughout a typical day as he encounters a never-ending stream of imitators – from his hotel valet, his tailor, makeup artist, and even his drive-through barista. Initially confused by the mimics, Walken grows increasingly frustrated. The spot culminates in a chance encounter with USHER, with Walken asking: “Don’t you got somewhere to be?” “Talkin’ Like Walken” is set to air during the first quarter of Super Bowl LVIII.

“I really enjoyed working with BMW, they are a wonderful company and electric cars are important,” said Walken. “I look forward to sharing the work we did together.”

“It’s an honor of a lifetime to perform at the Super Bowl and so great to work with BMW,” said USHER. “Making the commercial was a cool experience, and I hope you all enjoy it.”

BMW’s lead U.S. creative agency, Goodby Silverstein & Partners (GS&P), created the comical campaign. It was directed by two-time Academy Award–nominated director Bryan Buckley, who is acclaimed for his work on close to 70 Super Bowl commercials. Famed cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema (Oppenheimer and Interstellar) directed the photography.

“When you think about the perfect Super Bowl ad, you quickly realize that there’s a recipe for success,” said Marcus Casey, Chief Marketing Officer, BMW of North America. “Not that it’s easy, but if you start with an exciting new product, an A-List Hollywood star, a great script, and a talented team, and add to that mix, the multitalented Ashley Park, and a global superstar such as USHER, you have the makings of a hilarious, memorable spot.”

In the lead-up to the big game, BMW released two teasers for the spot. The first, “Agent,” poked fun at the tradition of Super Bowl ad teasers with Walken quizzically asking his agent, “So it’s an ad for an ad?” A second, follow-up teaser titled “Singing” featured Walken driving the electric BMW i5 while listening to USHER’s hit song, “Yeah!”, foreshadowing the singer’s surprise appearance.

“Christopher Walken is iconic, as is the BMW 5 Series. It’s one icon working with another, creating a synergy of two legendary figures. You wait your whole life to make a campaign like this,” added Rich Silverstein, Co-Chairman and Co-Founder of GS&P. “The reality is everyone has a Walken impression. But there’s only one original.”

The campaign will also involve social media extensions including a TikTok activation which challenges creators to give their own spin on a Walken impression to get all of social media #TalkinlikeWalken.

De BMW i7 M70 xDrive: De perfecte combinatie van elektrische mobiliteit en prestaties
De BMW i7 M70 xDrive levert het hoogste systeemvermogen ooit voor een volledig elektrische auto van BMW Group en markeert een nieuwe mijlpaal voor BMW M GmbH in zijn transformatie van elektrische mobiliteit. Na de lancering van de BMW i4 M50 -'s werelds best verkochte BMW M GmbH-model in 2022 - en de BMW iX M60 is dit nu het derde krachtige model van het bedrijf met een volledig elektrische aandrijflijn. Hij wordt aangedreven door een paar elektromotoren, elk op hun eigen as, die een maximaal systeemvermogen van 485 kW/660 pk leveren en in slechts 3,7 seconden naar 100 km/u accelereren. M-specifieke designkenmerken langs de flanken en aan de achterkant van de BMW i7 M70 xDrive tonen duidelijk het prestatiekarakter van de topmodelvariant.

Digitale presentatie van duurzaamheid gedurende de hele levenscyclus van een auto.
Anette Connor, Senior Manager Corporate Strategy - Sustainability and Mobility bij BMW Group, gaf een overzicht van de duurzaamheidsstrategie gedurende de hele levenscyclus van een auto en zei: “We willen klanten transparantie bieden gedurende de hele levenscyclus van de auto en deze verlengen door niet alleen te focussen op de impact van de C02 op het klimaat, maar ook op alle andere onderdelen en dimensies van duurzaamheid, zoals circulariteit en sociale verantwoordelijkheid.”

BMW Group streeft ernaar de duurzame ontwikkeling te versnellen door zijn modellen, die naar verwachting in 2030 50% van de wereldwijde verkoop voor hun rekening zullen nemen, volledig te elektrificeren, en tegelijkertijd verbrandingsmotoren en waterstoftechnologie verder te ontwikkelen.

Munich. Following the initial sales launch in South Korea, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the first BMW i5 Sedan are now coming to dealers in numerous other markets. In Germany, the first vehicles will be delivered to customers from 21 October 2023. The market launch also begins in the other European countries on the same day. One week later, on 28 October 2023, the new edition of the BMW 5 Series will make its road debut in the USA. The other global markets will follow on 25 November 2023.

The eighth generation of the world's most successful business sedan will also be offered for the first time as an all-electric BMW i5. Even before sales have begun, incoming orders show that this model variant in particular is meeting with high customer demand and will thus further accelerate the ramp-up of electric mobility pushed by BMW. Right from the start, customers can choose from two variants of the BMW i5. The new BMW i5 eDrive40 Sedan (power consumption combined: 18.9 - 15.9 kWh/100 km according to WLTP) features an output of up to 250 kW/340 hp and a range of 498 to 582 kilometres determined in the WLTP test cycle. The top model of the entire series is the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Sedan with up to 442 kW/601 hp (power consumption combined: 20.6 – 18.2 kWh/100 km according to WLTP).

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan emphasises its progressive character not only with the two all-electric model variants, but also with innovative digital services for in-car gaming, audio and video streaming, among other things, as well as with particularly high-grade driver assistance systems. The highlight in the field of systems for automated driving and parking is the Highway Assistant, which now also enables drivers in Germany to take their hands off the steering wheel for a longer period of time at speeds of up to 130 km/h and place them in a comfortable position, provided they continue to keep a close eye on the traffic situation and are able to take over from the system again at any time if necessary.

The intensive experience of semi-automated driving is complemented by the Automatic Lane Change. With this globally unique function, a glance in the exterior mirror is enough to trigger a lane change, which is then carried out automatically by the system.

The new generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring will celebrate its world premiere in spring 2024. The second body variant of the new BMW 5 Series will be available with the same range of drives as the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. This means that the new BMW 5 Series Touring is the first premium car of its kind to be offered with highly efficient combustion engines including 48-volt mild hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid systems and, for the first time, an all-electric drive. Just a few weeks after the market launch of the all-electric BMW i5 and the combustion engine variants equipped exclusively with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, two plug-in hybrid models will already be launched in November 2023. In the eighth generation of the world's most successful business sedan, the plug-in hybrid models are characterised by extremely spontaneous power delivery, clearly increased efficiency and a significantly increased electric range. Both models feature the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems, which is combined in the BMW 530e Sedan with a four-cylinder petrol engine and in the BMW 550e xDrive Sedan with an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine from the BMW Group's latest Efficient Dynamics modular generation.

Highly integrated drive unit with particularly high efficiency.
The electric motor, specially developed for the hybrid drive, is also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission together with its power electronics. The highly integrated drive unit is particularly efficient and contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp (BMW 550e Sedan) or 135 kW/184 hp (BMW 530e Sedan) to the maximum system output of the two plug-in hybrid sedans.

In combination with the latest generation of BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid models, the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine in the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan generates a system output of up to 360 kW/489 hp and a maximum system torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The plug-in hybrid system puts its power to the road by means of BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. It sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 miles) in 4.3 seconds. The maximum speed of the BMW 550e xDrive Sedan is electronically cut off at 250 km/h (155 mph). A maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph) is possible in purely electric operating mode.

The new BMW 530e Sedan has a 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and, together with the highly integrated e-drive unit, generates a maximum system output of 220 kW/299 hp. With a maximum system torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), the new BMW 530e Sedan accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 miles) in 6.3 seconds. The top speed is 230 km/h (143 mph), and up to 140 km/h (87 mph) in fully electric mode.

Increased range and high agility thanks to innovative BMW technologies.
A patented BMW innovation is used in the new plug-in hybrid models to increase the power development of the electric motor: The nominal torque of up to 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) is increased to a torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) by a pre-transmission, which is effectively applied to the engine-side transmission input. In this way, the compact electric motor generates additional drive torque that would otherwise only be possible with a larger electric motor. The additional torque is clearly noticeable both when accelerating and during intermediate sprints.

The electric range is now 83 to 90 kilometres (49 - 56 miles) according to WLTP for the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 93 to 103 kilometres (54 to 62 miles) according to WLTP for the new BMW 530e Sedan. Longer commutes are therefore also possible without producing any local emissions. Both plug-in hybrid models also owe their excellent electric range to their aerodynamic properties. As in all other variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, special panelling and air deflection elements contribute to an optimised underbody structure that minimises air resistance. Special attention was also paid to aerodynamically optimising the underbody, in order to additionally reduce CO₂ emissions and increase the electric range by up to ten kilometres.

When driving, the latest version of adaptive recuperation helps to recover electrical energy during overrun and braking phases. Thanks to intelligent networking, the drive control system can use navigation data and information from sensors of the driver assistance systems to adjust how much power is recuperated according to the respective traffic situation.

The space-saving arrangement of the lithium-ion high-voltage battery in the vehicle underbody has a positive effect on both the vehicle's centre of gravity and the luggage compartment. With a total of 520 litres, the storage volume of the plug-in hybrid models is just as large as that of the purely combustion engine powered variants. The high-voltage battery provides an increased usable energy content of up to 19.4 kWh. The maximum charging power has been doubled compared to the previous models and is now 7.4 kW, so that the high-voltage battery can be charged from zero to 100 percent of its capacity within 3 hours and 15 minutes. At a conventional household socket, the charging process is completed within 11 hour and 45 minutes.

Extensive range of standard equipment and equipment highlights.
Both the new BMW 530e Sedan and the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan feature an extended range of standard equipment compared to the models with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. In addition to 19-inch light alloy wheels, it also includes BMW IconicSounds Electric. In purely electric operating mode, this system provides a very special soundscape: Every movement of the accelerator pedal is accompanied by authentic acoustic feedback. The transparent and spherical sounds were developed in a cooperation between the BMW Group and the renowned film music composer Hans Zimmer.

The BMW 550e xDrive Sedan also comes as standard with Adaptive Chassis Professional, which includes electronically controlled shock absorbers and a lowered suspension as well as Integral Active Steering. It makes manoeuvring more comfortable, enhances agility at medium speeds and conveys confidence when changing lanes and cornering at higher speeds.

The BMW Interaction Bar combines modern functionality and fascinating design as part of the ambient lighting equipment. The strikingly backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels for controlling ventilation and air conditioning and for activating the hazard warning lights.

Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public, ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5 – 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA Mobility 2023. World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range. Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission together with its power electronics. The highly integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km [256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 20.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 – 470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 – 18.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment, which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models – meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time, maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment, as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation. Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle, increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with various target groups around the world. This allows selected test groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air, through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of 180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential – provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at all times.

The aerodynamic, interior and chassis parts range offers many options for high-performance customizing.

Perfectly coordinated: The M Performance Carbon parts.

The high-quality BMW M Performance aerodynamic and exterior components make the sporty, elegant business sedan look even more athletic. They have been specially developed for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5 with
M Sports Package or M Sports Package Pro and suit the geometry and design of the vehicle perfectly. Original BMW M Performance aerodynamic and exterior parts are always tested and approved according to the strict BMW Group quality guidelines. As they have already been homologated with the complete vehicle, it is not necessary to register them with the regulatory authorities.

All Carbon components are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), sealed with clear lacquer to achieve a high-quality finish, and give the 5 Series models a sharp and sporty look from all angles. At the front and rear of the body, the four-part M Performance Carbon front attachment as well as the M Performance Carbon Pro rear spoiler and the three-part M Performance rear diffuser made of aramid fiber ensure a distinctive, racing-oriented look. A primed M Performance rear spoiler is also available as an option.

In addition to the M Performance Carbon side skirt attachments, which give the profile of the vehicle even more visual length and depth, the new M Performance accent stripes in Frozen Black emphasise the dynamically flowing lines of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5. The digitally printed accent stripes are in matt anthracite and feature the M Performance lettering.
The M Performance side skirt films, which consist of a striking curved line in matt grey, are also new to the range and highlight the vehicle’s profile even further. The films are located below the doors and provide an elegant touch of colour, especially on the black side skirts. The striking decorative stripe also harmonises perfectly with the M Performance accent stripe in Frozen Black and the
M Performance Carbon side skirt attachments.

The range of high-quality exterior parts is rounded off by the Carbon M exterior mirror caps and the M Performance Aramid antenna cover. The antenna cover made of aramid fiber-reinforced plastic is a visual and at the same time functional highlight on the vehicle roof. Aramid fiber has a similar surface appearance to carbon fiber but has a high electromagnetic permeability. High-quality interior options add to the racing feel in the cockpit.

As soon as you open the doors, the M Performance Carbon door sill plates make a striking statement and show unmistakably that the new business sedan is oriented towards dynamic performance. In addition, the M Performance velours floor mats with their synthetic leather edging and decorative stitching in contrasting colours also add a sporty touch to the footwell. The two front mats of the four-piece set also feature embroidered M Performance lettering on the fabric insert and a flag in the hallmark M colours. The velours floor mats perfectly match the existing M Performance product range and round off the high-quality appearance.

The M Performance key case also makes a clear performance-oriented statement. The perfect-fit protective cover made of high-quality nappa leather is a pleasure to hold and features carbon fiber effect embossing combined with Alcantara. The function keys can be accessed freely so that the key does not have to be taken out of its case.

The M Performance Carbon fuel filler cap is also available for the combustion engine and plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. It has double-sided adhesive tape on the inside and can be attached to the existing fuel filler cap by the customer.

Light alloy wheels and sport brake system for optimised performance.

The M Performance light alloy wheels available for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the all-electric BMW i5 are ideally suited to a sporty driving style and make for a highly distinctive look. The range for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW i5 includes 19 and 21-inch wheel sets. The summer wheel with tyre set with 21-inch M Performance Cross-spoke light alloy wheels is available for all drive types in either M Bicolor Jet Black gloss finish or M Frozen Midnight Grey.

With the exception of the BMW i5 M60 xDrive, the corresponding winter wheel with tyre set, which is also suitable for snow chains (power consumption combined: 20.6 - 18.2 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km according to WLTP) is available for all drive variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. Additional wheel sets are stowed in style in the M Performance tyre bags. The four-piece set is suitable for wheels sized 17 to 22 inches and features M Performance lettering.

The M Performance 20-inch brake system delivers the deceleration power required for a sporty driving style. Its red-painted brake calipers featuring the four-colour M logo look particularly distinctive in conjunction with the open rim design of the 21-inch light alloy wheels. The sport brake system uses six-piston aluminium fixed-caliper brakes at the front and single-piston fist-caliper brakes at the rear. The large-format, internally ventilated and perforated M Performance lightweight brake discs provide improved thermal load-bearing capacity and thus deliver even higher breaking power under extreme conditions, for example on the race track.

Rijswijk. Dynamischer dan ooit, een veelvoud aan digitale innovaties en voor het eerst met volledig elektrische aandrijving – dat is de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan. Als BMW i5 neemt de nieuwste generatie van de meest succesvolle zakensedan ter wereld de leiding op weg naar duurzame premium mobiliteit in het hogere middensegment. Elektrificatie, een geavanceerde BMW iDrive Curved Display met ‘QuickSelect’, nieuwe digitale services en meer duurzaamheid in de gehele productlevenscyclus zijn de toekomstgerichte kenmerken die een grote rol spelen in de huidige transformatie van BMW Group.

Naast volledig elektrische variant, de BMW i5, komen er ook plug-in hybride modellen en zeer efficiënte benzine- en dieselmotoren met 48-volt Mild Hybrid technologie. Net als de voorgaande modelgeneraties vindt de productie van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan plaats in de BMW Group fabriek Dingolfing, waar ook de elektromotoren en hoogvoltage-accu’s voor de BMW i5 worden geproduceerd. De Nederlandse marktintroductie van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan is in oktober 2023. De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan zal beschikbaar zijn vanaf een consumentenadviesprijs van € 65.379,- als BMW 520i Sedan. De volledig elektrische BMW i5 zal een consumentenadviesprijs hebben vanaf € 77.572,- in de vorm van de BMW i5 eDrive40. De volledig elektrische M Performance variant BMW i5 M60 xDrive zal beschikbaar zijn voor een consumentenadvies prijs vanaf € 108.427,-.

Sportieve elegantie en opvallende uitstraling met een nieuwe designtaal.
Een heldere en minimalistische designtaal benadrukt de sportieve elegantie en uitstraling van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan. Ten opzichte van het voorgaande model is de nieuwe generatie 97 mm langer geworden, met een lengte van 5.060 mm in totaal. De breedte nam met 32 mm toe tot 1.900 mm en de hoogte met 36 mm tot 1.515 mm. De wielbasis is met 20 mm toegenomen en meet nu 2.995 mm.

De voorzijde van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan valt op door een moderne interpretatie van de kenmerkende dubbele koplampen en de BMW nierengrille. Bijna verticaal geplaatste LED elementen doen dienst als richtingaanwijzers en dagrijverlichting. De BMW nierengrille zorgt voor een breed aanzicht en is optioneel ook te voorzien van BMW ‘Iconic Glow’ nierengrilleverlichting.

Het atletische zijaanzicht wordt bepaald door een hoge schouderlijn, krachtige oppervlakken en twee nauwkeurig geplaatste karakterlijnen. De zwarte dorpelverbreders, verzonken portiergrepen en het nummer 5 in reliëf onderaan de C-stijl zijn echte blikvangers. De dynamische en langgerekte proporties komen samen in een krachtige achterzijde. Een chromen strip scheidt de horizontale achterlichten, die opvallen door een nieuwe, expressieve interpretatie van de kenmerkende L-vorm.

Om het dynamische karakter van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan verder te versterken zijn er het optionele M Sportpakket en het M Sportpakket Pro. Het kleurenpallet bij de introductie is reeds beschikbaar met drie BMW Individual carrosseriekleuren.

Rijplezier en reiscomfort in combinatie met innovatieve flair.
De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan biedt een ideale combinatie van BMW typerend rijplezier en een hoge mate van comfort op lange reizen. Genereuze ruimte, moderne functionaliteiten en een uitstekende geluidsisolatie voor akoestisch comfort komen samen met hoogwaardige en zorgvuldig bewerkte materialen, verfijnd vakmanschap en geavanceerde digitale services.

Het aantal knoppen in de cockpit van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie is aanzienlijk verminderd ten opzichte van het uitgaande model. Dat is te danken aan het verder digitaliseren van functies. Het BMW Curved Display is een nieuwe interpretatie van de voor BMW typerende focus om de cockpit op de bestuurder te richten. Het volledig digitale display bestaat uit een 12,3 inch Information Display en een 14,9 inch Touch Control Display.

Het nieuw ontworpen stuurwiel heeft een afgeplatte onderzijde en biedt haptische feedback voor de bedieningselementen. Daarnaast is ook de transmissiehendel volledig nieuw ontworpen. De BMW Interaction Bar - standaard op de elektrische varianten van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan - is een ander highlight. Deze is van binnenuit verlicht en heeft een kristalachtige oppervlaktestructuur. De BMW Interaction Bar strekt zich uit over het gehele dashboard tot in de portieren en is voorzien van aanrakingsgevoelige bedieningspanelen.

Een primeur bij BMW: volledig vegan interieur.
Nieuw ontworpen sportstoelen behoren tot de standaarduitrusting. De optionele comfortstoelen bieden een brede keuze aan elektrisch bedienbare instellingsmogelijkheden. De nieuwe
BMW 5 Serie Sedan is bovendien het eerste model van BMW met standaard een volledig vegan interieur. Naast dat de stoelen, het dashboard en de deurpanelen met het duurzame materiaal ‘Veganza’ zijn bekleed, is ook voor het eerst het stuurwiel hiermee uitgevoerd. De ‘Veganza’ bekleding met lederachtige eigenschappen is optioneel leverbaar in meerdere kleuren en met decoratieve stiksels. Ook optioneel leverbaar is BMW Individual Merino lederen bekleding in verschillende bicolor varianten.

Volledig elektrische BMW i5 M60 xDrive als topmodel.
De volledig elektrische BMW i5 is voorzien van de aanzienlijk verbeterde, vijfde generatie BMW eDrive technologie en leverbaar in twee varianten. De BMW i5 M60 xDrive combineert een 442 kW (601 pk) sterke aandrijving met typerende M prestaties en specifieke designkenmerken. Twee geïntegreerde aandrijfunits op de voor- en achteras zorgen voor volledig elektrische vierwielaandrijving. Het systeemkoppel bedraagt tot 820 Nm met ingeschakelde M Sport Boost of M Launch Control functie. Daarmee accelereert de BMW i5 M60 in 3,8 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/h. De topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 230 km/h.

Bij de andere variant, de BMW i5 eDrive40 drijft een elektromotor de achterwielen aan en levert een maximaal vermogen van 250 kW (340 pk) en een maximaal koppel van 430 Nm met Sport Boost of Launch Control functie. De BMW i5 eDrive40 accelereert van 0 naar 100 km/h in 6,0 seconden en de topsnelheid bedraagt 193 km/h.

De hoogvoltage-accu bevindt zich in de bodemplaat van de BMW i5 en heeft een bruikbare netto capaciteit van 81,2 kWh. Samen met de efficiënte elektromotoren, de nieuwste versie van adaptieve regeneratie en een slimme toepassing van warmtepomptechnologie voor het verwarmen en koelen van het interieur zorgt dat voor een grote actieradius. De BMW i5 M60 xDrive heeft een WLTP actieradius van 455–516 km en de BMW i5 eDrive40 een WLTP actieradius van 477–582 km. Met de nieuwe MAX RANGE functie kan de actieradius met tot 25 procent worden vergroot door het vermogen en de topsnelheid te beperken en comfortfuncties uit te schakelen.

Innovatieve charging oplossingen van BMW Charging.
De Combined Charging Unit (CCU) van de BMW i5 eDrive40 maakt AC-laden met tot 11 kW mogelijk, met 22 kW als optie (standaard op BMW i5 M60 xDrive). De hoogvoltage-accu is met een DC-lader op te laden met tot 205 kW. Daarmee is de accu van de BMW i5 bijvoorbeeld van 10 tot 80 procent op te laden in zo’n 30 minuten.

De BMW i5 modellen zijn ook de eerste modellen van het merk die geschikt zijn voor de Plug & Charge functie. Daarmee kan de BMW zich zelfstandig aanmelden bij geschikte openbare laadstations, zonder gebruik van een app of laadpas. Uniek is de Multi Contract Option, die het mogelijk maakt om tot vijf verschillende individuele Plug & Charge contracten van verschillende aanbieders digitaal in de BMW op te slaan.

Nieuwe benzine- en dieselmotoren met 48-volt mild hybrid technologie.
Naast de volledig elektrische BMW i5 en de Plug-in Hybride modellen komen er ook benzine- en dieselmotoren van de nieuwe, modulaire generatie BMW Group Efficient Dynamics motoren beschikbaar. Deze zijn alle voorzien van 48-volt Mild Hybrid technologie en standaard gekoppeld aan een nieuwe 8-traps Steptronic Sport transmissie.

Het Nederlandse aanbod bestaat uit de viercilinder BMW 520i Sedan met 158 kW (208 pk), de BMW 520d Sedan en de BMW 520d xDrive Sedan met ieder 145 kW (197 pk). Aan het einde van dit jaar wordt het aanbod verder uitgebreid met twee Plug-in Hybride modellen van de nieuwste generatie. Ook komt in 2024 een nieuwe zes-in-lijn dieselmotor beschikbaar, net als een derde variant van de volledig elektrische BMW i5 met vierwielaandrijving.

Unieke balans tussen rijdynamiek en reiscomfort.
De BMW 5 Serie Sedan staat bekend om zijn balans tussen maximale sportiviteit en een hoge mate aan reiscomfort op lange afstanden. Bij de nieuwe generatie is deze balans nog eens verbeterd. Dat is te danken aan de langste wielbasis in dit segment, de toegenomen spoorbreedte en een bijna perfecte 50/50 gewichtsverdeling. Een intelligente lichtgewicht constructie en een toegenomen stijfheid van onderstel en carrosserie dragen eveneens bij aan de dynamische en comfortabele rijeigenschappen.

De zeer geavanceerde ondersteltechnologie is modelspecifiek aangepast op de verschillende aandrijftechnologieën. Direct aangestuurde tractiecontrole, een geïntegreerd remsysteem en Variable Sport Steering behoren tot de standaarduitrusting. Optioneel leverbaar zijn een M Sportonderstel, M Sportremsysteem en het Adaptieve Onderstel Professional (standaard voor BMW i5 M60 xDrive) met elektronisch aangestuurde schokdempers, Integral Active Steering en een nieuw dynamiekmanagement. Het optionele Adaptieve M Onderstel Professional omvat bovendien Active Roll Stabilisation met Active Roll Comfort. Lichtmetalen wielen in 18-inch of 19-inch (afhankelijk van de motorisatie) zijn standaard. Optioneel leverbaar is dit uit te breiden tot lichtmetalen wielen van 21-inch.

Intense, geautomatiseerde rijbeleving: nieuwe Highway Assistant, unieke Active Lane Change Assistant.
Het aantal standaard of optioneel leverbare systemen voor geautomatiseerd rijden en parkeren is voor de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan aanzienlijk uitgebreid. Een innovatief technologiepakket legt de basis voor een uitstekende werking van deze systemen.

Het hoogtepunt van het aanbod is de optionele Driving Assistant Professional met Steering and Lane Control Assist en Distance Control met Stop & Go functie. In enkele markten als de Verenigde Staten, Canada en Duitsland is ook de Highway Assistant daarbovenop beschikbaar (niet in de Nederlandse markt), die het sturen volledig kan overnemen op snelwegen met gescheiden rijbanen. Bij snelheden tot 130 km/h is het mogelijk om de handen van het stuur te halen. De bestuurder moet wel op de weg blijven letten en indien nodig kunnen ingrijpen. Een wereldprimeur: het systeem omvat de Active Lane Change Assistant met ‘oogbediening’. Daarmee bereikt de interactie tussen bestuurder en de auto een nieuw niveau. De BMW stelt voor om van rijstrook te wisselen indien de verkeerssituatie dit nodig maakt en voor het eerst is het voor de bestuurder voldoende om in de buitenspiegel te kijken om de manoeuvre te bevestigen alsmede te activeren. De Active Lane Change Assistant neemt automatisch de besturing over, zolang de verkeerssituatie dat toelaat.

De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan is standaard uitgerust met de Parking Assistant inclusief achteruitrijassistent. Met de optionele Parking Assistant Professional is het mogelijk om manoeuvres tot 200 meter automatisch uit te voeren vanuit de BMW of op afstand via de smartphone.

Intuïtieve bediening en nieuwe digitale belevingen: BMW iDrive met ‘QuickSelect’ en BMW Operating System 8.5.
Het verder ontwikkelde BMW iDrive systeem met ‘QuickSelect’ draagt bij aan de kenmerkende rij- en reisbeleving in de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan. Het systeem is gebaseerd op het BMW Operating System 8.5 en voorzien van een nieuw ontworpen ‘home’ scherm met verticaal geplaatste functietoetsen aan de bestuurderskant. ‘QuickSelect’ maakt het mogelijk om functies snel te bedienen, zonder naar een submenu te moeten wisselen. Hiermee heeft het systeem een verbeterde menustructuur, dat sterk lijkt op dat van smartphones en tablets.

Het nieuwe BMW iDrive functioneert samen met het BMW Curved Display en de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Het systeem is ontworpen om de bediening via aanraking en natuurlijke spraak te optimaliseren. Bovendien is de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan voorzien van de kenmerkende iDrive controller op de middenconsole. De optionele BMW Live Cockpit Professional omvat het BMW Head-Up Display en Augmented View met weergave op het Control Display of het instrumentenpaneel. Optioneel is BMW Natural Interaction voor het bedienen van functies door middel van gebaren.

In-car gaming debuteert in de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan.
BMW Operation System 8.5 biedt bovendien nog meer digitale content voor informatie of entertainment, snellere updates voor functies, verbeterde informatie over laadstations voor geëlektrificeerde modellen en een geoptimaliseerde toegang tot vele online services. Videostreaming is mogelijk via het Control Display, evenals een innovatieve vorm van in-car gaming. Dat is in de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan voor het eerst mogelijk via het AirConsole platform. Bestuurder en passagiers kunnen daardoor games spelen of video’s streamen terwijl de BMW stil staat, bijvoorbeeld tijdens de wachttijd van een laadsessie.

Geoptimaliseerd netwerk met geïntegreerde 5G antennes.
Een andere innovatie is het Welcome Scenario, met lichtshow en persoonlijke ontvangst. Optioneel omvat dit ook het dynamische Light Carpet (lichttapijt). De BMW Digital Key Plus is nu beschikbaar voor smartphones met iOS of Android besturingssystemen en voor de Apple Watch. Met de standaard 5G antennes biedt de nieuwe zakensedan optimale connectiviteit en telefoonverbinding. De Personal eSIM zorgt ervoor dat de BMW volledig is te integreren in de digitale wereld van de bestuurder. In geselecteerde markten waaronder Nederland is het ook mogelijk om vanuit de BMW automatisch te betalen voor parkeren.

De nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan biedt een keuze uit maximaal zes ‘My Modes’ om de rijbeleving te versterken en nog meeslepender te maken. De standaarduitrusting omvat ook geoptimaliseerde smartphone integratie via Apple CarPay^® en Android Auto^™. Met de functie Remote Software Upgrades is de BMW altijd up-to-date met de nieuwste software.

De marktintroductie van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie Sedan betekent tevens het begin van een nieuw hoofdstuk op het gebied van customer service. Met Proactive Car creëert BMW een nieuw platform voor onderhoud aan de BMW. Daarbij ligt de focus op het herkennen van de behoefte aan onderhoud, onder meer met behulp van kunstmatige intelligente en het proactief aanbieden van oplossingen aan de klant.

Munich. The series production development process for the first-ever BMW i5 is entering the home straight with the fine-tuning of its suspension control and driver assistance systems. Just a few weeks ahead of the car’s world premiere, it is clear the all-electric version of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will deliver an outstanding driving experience – just like all the other variants. Innovative Vertical Dynamics Management elevates the balance of sporting potency and ride comfort for which the BMW 5 Series has always been renowned to an even higher level. And the car’s automated driving capability has also been taken into a new dimension with the Highway Assistant, which controls the distance to the vehicle ahead, carries out steering adjustments and carries out lane changes for the first time by means of eye activation.

Over the course of more than a year, the BMW i5 has negotiated a richly varied programme of testing – from the snow-covered and icy surfaces of the winter test centre at Arjeplog, Sweden to regions offering extreme heat and dry conditions, in city driving and on country roads, on motorways and hand-picked test tracks. The fine-tuning work for all the components involved in the driving experience was then carried out at the BMW Group’s proving grounds outside Miramas in southern France. This included ensuring the integral heating and cooling circuit with heat pump function for the drive system, the high-voltage battery and the interior of the BMW i5 can be controlled as required at all times. The predictive heat management capability of the high-voltage battery paves the way for rapid and efficient charging at DC fast-charging stations.

Specially tuned suspension systems maximise comfort and agility.

The flexible drive system technology offered by the new BMW 5 Series range – which now gives customers the choice between classical internal combustion engines, plug-in-hybrid solutions and fully electric drive systems – leads to wide variations in vehicle weight. With this in mind, model-specific, case-by-case chassis tuning and corresponding application of all control systems deliver signature BMW driving pleasure, regardless of the drive concept involved.

As the range-topping model variant, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive (electric power consumption combined: 21.2 – 17.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km in the WLTP cycle [provisional figures]) is fitted as standard with Adaptive Suspension Professional including electronically controlled dampers. This suspension system can also be specified as an option for the BMW i5 eDrive40 (electric power consumption combined: 19.7 – 16.0 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km in the WLTP cycle [provisional figures]). Thanks to an innovative form of BMW Vertical Dynamics Management, it offers a noticeable increase in sports performance combined with a level of ride comfort that also represents a clear step forward from that of its predecessor.

The latest version of BMW’s Vertical Dynamics Management, now in its ninth generation, is making its debut in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. This technology is based on a newly developed, extensively networked control logic, and factors in all the available input variables – such as wheel speeds, steering angle, yaw rate and acceleration – to establish the ideal damping forces. The system no longer calculates the required damping forces using mathematical models, but instead favours physical calculation of data on the current driving condition. This ensures clearly defined body control and precise suspension response in every driving situation. 

Adaptive Suspension Professional is offered for all variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan (either as standard or optionally, depending on the model), ensuring the customary driving pleasure of BMW. The new generation of the business sedan therefore blends ride comfort approaching BMW 7 Series levels with the sporting agility familiar from the BMW 3 Series.

A new experience of automated driving: Highway Assistant and automated lane change with eye activation.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan also raises the bar in its segment with its extensive array of systems for automated driving and parking. High-resolution cameras, high-precision radar sensors and control units from the BMW Group’s latest technology toolkit, plus a software application refined over countless miles of testing, provide the ingredients for an automated driving experience featuring innovative highlights that further enhance safety and comfort.

In the USA and Canada, and now also in Germany, the Driving Assistant Professional available as an option for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan comprises Highway Assistant, which can be used at speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph). Once activated, the system takes care of distance control and the steering inputs required for lane control, so the driver can keep their hands in a comfortable position and focus fully on surveying the area around the vehicle and the traffic situation at hand.

An interior camera helps monitor the driver’s level of alertness and also enables another innovation: in a world first, the automated lane change – included as part of the Driving Assistant Professional and Highway Assistant – in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be controlled using eye activation. This convenience feature results in a new level of interaction between human and car. Looking in the exterior mirror prompts the car to initiate the lane change process and carry out the necessary steering movements and speed adjustments at speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph) once the driver has confirmed they want it to do so and the traffic situation allows. The purely visual gesture complements the previous use of the turn signal lever, which is also available as an alternative.

Production of the new, eighth-generation BMW 5 Series Sedan will begin in summer 2023 at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Bavaria. The car’s market launch will get underway in October 2023.

Munich. The first-ever BMW 5 Series with a fully electric drive system has yet to make its global debut, but it has already come through the ultimate endurance test. The new BMW i5 repeatedly demonstrated both the stability of its electric powertrain and its dynamic performance qualities over the course of arduous test drives in wintry conditions. The programme of testing on ice and snow lasted about a year in all, from the initial test runs to the final stages of fine-tuning. During the extensive testing on country roads, motorways and specially prepared test tracks, the development engineers mainly focused their attention on the car’s ability to drive at low temperatures and on surfaces offering little grip.

The innovative powertrain and chassis control systems on board the new BMW i5 do a great deal to optimise its traction, dynamism and driving stability, and nowhere is this more apparent than on a solid blanket of snow, icy mountain roads or frozen lakes. It was only right that the dynamic winter testing of the purely electrically powered sedan recently finished exactly where it began: in the biting cold of the BMW Group’s winter test centre at Arjeplog, northern Sweden.

Endurance test for BMW eDrive technology, operating continuously at extreme sub-zero temperatures.

As part of the production development process, the new BMW i5 first had to prove its mettle back in February 2022, when it completed a road trip from Munich to the BMW test centre at Arjeplog. A prototype model of the all-electric BMW 5 Series fully camouflaged with a special wrap, plastic attachments, grilles and provisional headlights and rear lights set off on a five-day test drive from the foothills of the Bavarian Alps up to Denmark, then on to the edge of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland.

The journey of around 3,000 kilometres (1,850 miles) provided an early opportunity for the motors, power electronics, high-voltage battery and integrated heating and cooling system for the cabin and battery pack to demonstrate their advanced level of readiness on a long-distance journey. Featuring cutting-edge battery cell technology and intelligently controlled thermal management, the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology – further upgraded for the new BMW i5 – forms the basis for long ranges and short charging times during breaks in the journey, even in extreme sub-zero ambient temperatures.

The final destination of Arjeplog provided the team of development and test engineers with the ideal venue for their test programme. The snow-covered roads and frozen lakes of northern Sweden, with their vast expanses of ice, create the perfect setting for exploring how the chassis components, steering and braking systems, and driving dynamic and driving stability systems all interact with one another in extreme outdoor conditions. As a result, the groundwork for the authoritative, assured and characteristically sporty handling of the new BMW i5 were already laid in the first test drives in Arjeplog.

BMW Group test facilities and in everyday driving in and around Munich as well as in the vicinity of BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The task here was to continue refining the car’s chassis technology and acoustic properties under a wide variety of conditions, as well as honing the drive unit’s power delivery, in order to produce a well-resolved driving experience at all times.

Here again, part of the development work was deliberately carried out during the colder months on icy and snowy roads in the Alpine foothills. This last winter, BMW i5 prototypes – now sporting less camouflage and near-production headlights – were regularly sent out for testing to verify the functionality and reliability of their powertrain and chassis control systems in extremely demanding road and weather conditions. The BMW engineers involved in the vehicle project were able to directly inspect the current state of development through testing in the BMW brand’s native Bavaria before it was time to return to endurance testing near the Arctic Circle in February 2023.

BMW i5 thrills with its unrivalled handling on ice and snow.

The purpose of this second round of testing in Sweden was to fine-tune all powertrain and chassis control systems. Thanks to their low-grip surfaces, the test areas sited on frozen lakes around Arjeplog were particularly well suited for delicately adjusting the drive torque control system in the BMW i5 under precisely reproducible conditions. In the new BMW i5, the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system, the near-actuator wheel slip limitation function and the drive torque control system are interlinked so that they can interact and complement each other flexibly in any driving situation. As a result, the all-electric sedan performs at least as proficiently as any conventionally powered model on ice and snow.

The integrated application of all powertrain and chassis systems underpins the outstanding handling abilities displayed by the BMW i5 in winter testing. The more challenging the conditions, the more impressive were the speed and precision of the control systems in the fully electric version of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. The BMW i5 serves up a harmonious blend of optimum traction when pulling away and supreme driving stability when cornering or braking, which is unique in the competitive environment.

Munich. With a ten-year plan for sustainability, the BMW Group is underscoring its commitment to the goals of the Paris climate agreement, the main focus being on the expansion of electric mobility. More than 500,000 electrified vehicles were sold by the end of 2019 and this figure will most likely rise to over 1 million by the end of 2021. The BMW 5 Series makes a substantial contribution towards achieving both past and future goals. With almost 50,000 units, BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid models were the most successful electrified models in the BMW Group’s portfolio worldwide in 2019.

Extension of the BMW 5 Series to include five plug-in hybrid models.
With an increase from two to five models featuring innovative plug-in hybrid drive by November 2020, the new BMW 5 Series offers the largest range of PHEVs within one BMW Group model series.

The latest generation of BMW eDrive technology in conjunction with a four-cylinder petrol engine powers the BMW 530e plug-in hybrid models. July 2020 saw the launch of the new BMW 530e Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 1.8 – 1.7 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.8 – 13.7 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 42 – 39 g/km)* and the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 2.1 – 2.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.4 – 15.9 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 49 – 46 g/km)*.

In November 2020, the new BMW 530e Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.1 – 1.9 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.9 – 14.9 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 47 – 43 g/km)* and the new BMW 530e xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.3 – 2.1 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.9 – 15.9 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 52 – 49 g/km)* will be launched.

Top of the range model: The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan.
The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.1 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.3 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 49 g/km)* features a synchronous electric motor delivering a maximum power output of 80 kW/109 hp, which is combined with an efficient straight six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and 210 kW/286 hp, together generating an overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp. Power is distributed as required to all four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive. Maximum system torque is 600 Nm and top speed is reached at 250 km/h, whilst a speed of 140 km/h is possible in purely electric operation. From a standstill, the new BMW 545e xDrive accelerates to a speed of 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds*. Thus, the BMW 545e xDrive clearly excels as the most dynamic of all BMW six-cylinder plug-in hybrids.

Thanks to intelligently controlled interaction between both drive systems, the new BMW 545e xDrive combines the best of two worlds. It facilitates not only purely electric driving in urban traffic and efficient commuting between home and the workplace, but also excels through dynamic performance and comfortable long-distance travel. With a purely electric range of 54–57 kilometres* and an average fuel consumption of 2.4–2.1 litres/100 km*, the new BMW 545e xDrive combines brand-typical driving dynamics and a high level of long-distance ride comfort with extremely efficient use of resources.

The latest plug-in hybrid model of the BMW 5 Series is fitted with a 400V lithium-ion battery which is positioned under the rear seat in order to save space. With a luggage volume of 410 litres, the transport capacity of the BMW 545e xDrive is only slightly smaller than of those model variants which are fitted with a conventional engine.

Different driving modes for maximum efficiency in accordance with the relevant driving style and situation.
In order to make optimum use of the combination of the straight six-cylinder engine featuring ultra-smooth running characteristics and eDrive technology in all driving situations, the BMW 545e xDrive supports the driver in numerous ways in terms of energy management. Various driving modes, some of which can be individualised in their operation, are simply selected by pressing the corresponding button on the centre console.

The HYBRID mode is the default setting, which ensures a balanced set-up and an intelligent interaction between combustion engine and electric motor. It is also possible to select ELECTRIC mode as the standard setting via the iDrive menu. In HYBRID mode, the electric motor is predominantly used. The combustion engine only kicks in at higher speeds or under intensive load conditions. Since the system is linked to the navigation system, the interaction between combustion engine and electric motor can be adapted more precisely to the route profile, topography and other driving situations in an anticipatory manner. The electric range is increased by recuperation in overrun and braking phases. The energy supply saved in this way can then be used specifically for locally emission-free driving through urban areas and the arrival at the defined destination.

By pressing the HYBRID button twice, an efficiency-optimised version of this operating mode (HYBRID ECO PRO) is activated.
The coasting function on the overrun, among other things, contributes to a further reduction in consumption. The navigation and sensor data-supported control system also optimises the effectiveness of braking energy recovery. When approaching a junction or a vehicle driving ahead, for example, infinitely adaptive recuperation can be put to particularly intensive use for the purpose of deceleration.

In SPORT mode, the electric motor supports the straight six-cylinder petrol engine when the overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp is fully needed. The set-up is designed for dynamic performance, and the gearshift program is sporty.

The ELECTRIC mode, on the other hand, enables locally purely emission-free driving up to 57 kilometres* and up to 140 km/h.

  Special sounds for a special driving experience.
The new “ready to drive sound” produced by the BMW 545e xDrive is the result of the collaboration with composer Hans Zimmer and is designed to trigger joyful anticipation of the electric drive when the driver enters the vehicle and presses the Start/Stop button.

A distinctive sound created especially for electrified BMW models is used for the purpose of acoustic pedestrian protection, emitted via a speaker system. The sound design in the low speed range of up to 30 km/h radiates a vibrant acoustic presence, though without impairing the acoustic comfort of vehicle occupants.

Likewise, via the vehicle audio system, “Active Sound Design” provides for an authentic and, in the SPORT mode of the Driving Experience Control Switch, for a particularly intense and pronounced sound.

Electric mobility meets digitalisation: Digital services for the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 5 Series.
The BMW Group also offers innovative digital services that actively contribute towards increasing the attractiveness of electric driving even further.  

The BMW eDrive Zone service facilitates the automatic switching over of the drive system to purely electric mode when entering an urban low-emission zone and similar inner-city areas. In addition, local emission-free driving with a BMW plug-in hybrid model is rewarded through the globally unique loyalty programme BMW Points.

Apart from filling stations, the navigation system also displays public charging points. When selecting a charging station, the driver is also provided with a forecast on its occupation status as well as recommendations for nearby restaurants or cafés. Moreover, BMW enables BMW Charging customers to reserve an enabled charging station for a limited period of time.

Furthermore, other products from BMW Charging also offer the possibility of comfortable charging at home and when out and about. These also comprise various versions of the Wallbox, including installation service, individual offers for the purchase of electricity and access to the world’s largest network of public charging stations comprising more than 155,000 charging points in Europe alone.  

Preconditioning of the interior by means of auxiliary heating and air conditioning ensures optimised comfort during any season. If the preconditioning system is activated during the charging process after defining a specific departure time, the system also guarantees the full electric range in drive mode. The system is controlled either from inside the vehicle or conveniently via the My BMW app.

The M Performance front attachment on both sides and the M Performance front splitter made from the high-grade material provide for a sporty look at the front.  In addition to a variant of the kidney grille surround in high-gloss black, the M Performance front grille is also available in a carbon version. Likewise, the M Performance exterior mirror caps, M Performance Air Breather in the front fenders and M Performance side sill attachments are made from this high-quality material. The M Performance rear spoiler Carbon and the M Performance rear spoiler Pro Carbon are both available for the sedans, with the M Performance carbon rear diffusor providing for a sporty looking rear end.

M Performance steering wheel and carbon parts for the interior.
The M Performance steering wheel creates a particularly intense bond between driver and vehicle. With distinctively shaped Alcantara grip recesses, large thumb-rests and special lining it guarantees maximum grip and a direct steering feel at all times. Together with the Alcantara, silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitching and the red 12 o’clock marking provide for a genuine motor sports atmosphere. As an alternative to the standard leather-covered steering wheel trim, M Performance carbon/leather or carbon/Alcantara steering wheel trims are also optionally available. M Performance sports suspension for M5 models.
The outstanding driving dynamics of the BMW M5 and the BMW M5 Competition can be enhanced even further with the M Performance sports suspension without a change of the damper settings. The coilover suspension allows the vehicle to be lowered by between 5 and 20 millimetres, resulting in a lower centre of gravity, less roll tendency and higher cornering speeds. The optional M Performance sports brake system ensures corresponding deceleration values under maximum load. 20-inch M Performance forged wheels with Y-spoke design and 863 M Ferric Grey matt finish are also exclusively available for the two M5 models. These are manufactured using a sophisticated forging and milling process, offering a unique and patented three-dimensional spoke geometry, milled M Performance lettering as well as a coloured M Logo. Apertures in the spokes reduce air build-up in the wheel, so that less power is required to cut turbulence at high speeds. Kort na de introductie van de nieuwste generatie van de BMW 5 Serie, lanceert BMW ook een plug-inhybridevariant van ’s werelds succesvolste zakensedan. Deze sportieve BMW 530e iPerformance biedt zowel de van BMW bekende rijdynamiek als de mogelijkheid om lokaal emissievrij elektrisch te rijden. Een brandstofverbruik van slechts 1,9 l/100 km is mogelijk met een bijbehorende CO2-emissie van 44 g/km*. De BMW 530e is sinds eind januari 2017 te bestellen bij de BMW dealer.

De BMW 530e iPerformance is de innovatiefste auto in zijn klasse, met alle mogelijke rijhulpsystemen van de BMW 5 Serie – in alle rijmodi inclusief eDrive. Ook heeft de BMW 530e iPerformance alle beschikbare comfortverhogende functies en voorzieningen die lange ritten uiterst aangenaam maken. Ook heeft hij nog steeds een buitengewoon grote bagageruimte.

De BMW 530e iPerformance is het zesde lid van het groeiende en succesvolle modellenportfolio van iPerformance. Het uitstekende milieuvriendelijke karakter wordt erkend in de vorm van een ISO-certificaat van het inspectiebedrijf TÜV Rheinland.

De complete levensduur van het voertuig – van het winnen van de grondstoffen voor de productie van de auto tot de gebruiks- en recyclingfase – wordt meegenomen in het onderzoek naar de impact op het milieu. Hieruit volgt het ‘global warming potential’, in de vorm van CO2-equivalenten (CO2e). Dit onafhankelijke certificaat volgens de standaarden ISO 14040 en ISO 14044 toont aan dat de milieu-impact van de BMW 530e iPerformance 15 procent kleiner is dan de milieu-impact van de BMW 530i met alleen een verbrandingsmotor. Wanneer alleen hernieuwbare energie wordt gebruikt om de hoogspanningsbatterij op te laden, valt de milieu-impact van het plug-in hybride model zelfs 47 procent lager uit.

Vermogensafgifte op niveau van verbrandingsmotor met grote cilinderinhoud.
De state-of-the-art elektromotor van het BMW eDrive-systeem heeft een vermogen van 83 kW (113 pk) en 250 Nm koppel. De viercilinder 2,0-liter verbrandingsmotor biedt 135 kW (184 pk) vermogen en 320 Nm koppel. De gemiddelde CO2-emissie bedraagt slechts 44 g/km. Het systeemvermogen en -koppel liggen op 185 kW (252 pk) en 420 Nm. De elektromotor en de verbrandingsmotor leveren beide hun kracht via een achttraps Steptronic-transmissie aan de achterwielen.

De BMW 530e iPerformance heeft slechts 6,2 seconden nodig voor de sprint vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u en hij bereikt een topsnelheid van 235 km/u. In de praktijk bedraagt de actieradius tot wel 650 kilometer en puur elektrisch is het bereik 50 kilometer bij snelheden tot 140 km/u.

De elektromotor is vóór de transmissie geplaatst, zodat het vermogen ook in volledig elektrische rijmodus via de transmissie naar de achterwielen gaat. Daardoor is een koppelomvormer overbodig, wat grotendeels het extra gewicht van de elektromotor compenseert.

Unieke oplaadinnovaties voor de hogespanningsbatterij: de BMW Digital Charging Service en BMW Wireless Charging.
De hogespanningsbatterij is opgebouwd uit lithium-ion-cellen met een gezamenlijke capaciteit van 9,2 kWh. Het pakket is ondergebracht onder de achterbank en voorzien van een geïntegreerd koelcircuit. Opladen kan binnen vijf uur aan een standaard stopcontact thuis. Met een BMW i Wallbox (3,7 kWh laadcapaciteit) bedraagt de oplaadtijd slechts drie uur. Door de plaatsing van de batterij onder de achterbank heeft de BMW 530e iPerformance maar liefst 420 liter bagageruimte en een vlakke laadvloer.

Digital Charging Service (DCS).
Met Digital Charging Service (DCS) is BMW i de eerste autofabrikant die een intelligente service voor duurzaam en voordelig laden aanbiedt. DCS is een voorspellende, duurzame en geldbesparende laadoplossing voor (deels) elektrische BMW’s. DCS valt onder 360^o ELECTRIC dat intelligente producten en diensten behelst ter ondersteuning van elektrische mobiliteit.

Vanaf april 2017 is deze nieuwe dienst beschikbaar in Nederland en Duitsland – die lopen immers voorop als het gaat om elektrische mobiliteit, maar nog dit jaar volgen andere landen. DCS is uniek vanwege een aantal kenmerken. Dankzij een intelligent algoritme wordt de BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) automatisch opgeladen in daluren, conform de laagste energieprijzen. Daarnaast kan de dienst gekoppeld worden aan bijvoorbeeld eigen zonnepanelen, waardoor de auto automatisch laadt op het moment dat er zonne-energie wordt opgewekt. Een gebruikelijk aantal van twaalf zonnepanelen levert jaarlijks zo’n 3.000 kWh op en dus voor ongeveer €600 aan stroom. Bovendien kan DCS op basis van de weersverwachting voorspellen hoeveel stroom de zonnecellen kunnen leveren.

DCS is standaard op elk nieuw BMW i en iPerformance model en is het eerste jaar gratis. De service kan verlengd worden voor €50 per jaar (dit is ook het bedrag voor BMW-klanten die de dienst achteraf willen aanschaffen), maar de besparing van de dienst weegt op tegen de kosten.

DCS voert het laadproces volledig autonoom uit. De intelligente laadsoftware analyseert automatisch het energieverbruikspatroon van de klant en kiest de voor het laadproces gunstigste periodes en energiebronnen. De laadtijd wordt automatisch aangepast en het systeem houdt rekening met de ingestelde vertrektijd zodat de batterij volledig geladen is en het interieur verwarmd of gekoeld op het moment dat de berijder instapt. Het algoritme leert bovendien van het gebruik waardoor het laadprogramma steeds efficiënter wordt. De gebruiker kan overigens ook kiezen om zijn auto ‘onmiddellijk’ te laden via de BMW Connected App.

Flexibele tarieven van groene energie.
De unieke laadservice is voorlopig voorbehouden aan BMW i en BMW iPerformance auto’s, de volledig elektrische en PHEV modellen van BMW. Later komt de service ook beschikbaar voor voertuigen van andere merken. De service gaat in eerste instantie alleen van start in Nederland en Duitsland. Een belangrijk verschil is dat DCS in Nederland ook rekening houdt met flexibele tarieven van groene energie bij een groot aanbod, bijvoorbeeld bij extreme zonneschijn of langdurig harde wind.

DCS kan zo de laadkosten aanzienlijk laten dalen. In samenwerking met energieleverancier Eneco, en voor de technologische spin-off Jedlix, worden speciale tarieven aangeboden. Bij andere aanbieders geldt alleen dag- en nachttarief. Indien ENECO de energie levert, is er met het intelligente laadsysteem bovendien geld terug te verdienen (€ 120 per jaar). DCS geeft tevens een overzicht van de laadprocessen, zodat duidelijk wordt hoeveel kWh elektriciteit is geladen, wat de kosten en de besparingen zijn en wat het aandeel zonne-energie is. Deze informatie kan ook geëxporteerd worden.

Persoonlijk laadportal.
De BMW Digital Charging Service is onderdeel van 360 ELECTRIC en is het eerste jaar gratis. Na het eerste jaar is DCS beschikbaar via de ConnectedDrive Store, aanvankelijk alleen in Nederland. DCS dient eenmalig geconfigureerd te worden, waarna de gebruiker in zijn of haar persoonlijke portal toegang krijgt tot uitgebreide informatie, bijvoorbeeld over het aantal aangesloten auto’s en wallboxen, laadplannen en de opbrengsten en besparingen.

De BMW Digital Charging Service is gebaseerd op twee kernfuncties: geoptimaliseerd opladen op kostefficiënte momenten en het gebruik van zonne-energie. Met tarief-geoptimaliseerd laden past het laadplan zich aan het elektriciteitstarief van de klant aan, zodat het laadproces altijd zo voordelig mogelijk uitpakt. Als de klant een BMW Wallbox Connect heeft, wordt voorrang gegeven aan stroom opgewerkt uit de zonne-energie-installatie van het huis. Hiervoor gebruikt het systeem outputdata en actuele weersinformatie om de hoeveelheid lokaal gegenereerde zonne-energie te voorspellen. Zodra deze installatie is geplaatst kan deze informatie ook gebruikt worden om te bepalen hoeveel zonne-energie er niet gebruikt wordt.

BMW Wireless Charging.
BMW Wireless Charging voor de hoogspanningsbatterij wordt in 2018 optioneel verkrijgbaar voor de nieuwe BMW 530e iPerformance. Deze technologie maakt het mogelijk om de batterij op te laden, zonder gebruik te maken van laadkabels. Het systeem is al eerder in prototypevorm gepresenteerd door BMW, maar wordt nu werkelijkheid. Het systeem bestaat uit een basisstation met geïntegreerde primaire spoel die bijvoorbeeld in de garage geplaatst kan worden, maar ook in de buitenlucht. De tweede spoel is geplaatst aan de onderzijde van het voertuig. Wanneer de twee spoelen zich boven elkaar bevinden ontstaat ertussen een wisselend magneetveld. Zodoende is draadloos opladen mogelijk met een laadsnelheid van 3,2 kW. De totale oplaadtijd van deze zeer gebruiksvriendelijke laadmethode bedraagt ongeveer 3,5 uur.

Discreet onderscheidend, zowel binnen als buiten.
Een aantal discrete uiterlijke accenten verwijzen naar de vooruitstrevende aandrijftechniek van de BMW 530e iPerformance. Blauwe lamellen in de niervormige grille, blauwe naafdoppen, de laadaansluiting tussen de wielkast en de A-stijl aan de bestuurderskant, de eDrive-logo’s op de C-stijlen en de 530e-badge op de kofferdeksel zijn de opvallendste herkenningspunten van de plug-inhybridevariant. Naar wens wordt de auto zonder de blauwe elementen geleverd. Bij het openen van een portier, verschijnt op de blauw verlichte dorpelpanelen de tekst ‘eDrive’. De BMW 530e iPerformance is verder voorzien van een eDrive-knop in de middenconsole en specifiek voor deze modelvariant ontworpen displays in het instrumentenpaneel en in het centrale informatiescherm.

BMW eDrive past zich aan en anticipeert.
Met de Driving Experience Control-knop is te kiezen uit rijmodi Sport, Comfort en Eco Pro. Met de eDrive-knop is de werking van het hybridesysteem nog preciezer aan de omstandigheden aanpassen via de keuzemogelijkheden Auto eDrive, Max eDrive en Battery Control.

Auto eDrive zorgt ervoor dat de elektro- en verbrandingsmotoren optimaal samenwerken, tot een snelheid van 90 km/u. Dit is de standaardinstelling als de auto wordt gestart. In de rijmodus  Max eDrive is de BMW 530e iPerformance volledig elektrisch aangedreven. Dan gebruikt het systeem het volle vermogen van de elektromotor en kan de elektrische topsnelheid van 140 km/u worden bereikt. Bij het volledig indrukken van het gaspedaal (kickdown) springt de verbrandingsmotor bij voor een extra dosis kracht, bijvoorbeeld voor een inhaalmanoeuvre.

Met de Battery Control-modus is handmatig het laadniveau voor de batterij in te stellen op waarden van 30 tot 100% capaciteit. Het batterijmanagement behoudt de ingestelde capaciteit door bijvoorbeeld bij het rijden op de snelweg bij te laden, zodat in de stad zoveel mogelijk elektrisch is te rijden. De elektromotor fungeert dan als generator om te laden, wanneer dat mogelijk is.

iDrive van de nieuwste generatie voor nog intuïtievere bediening.
Net als in de andere versies van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie zijn telefoon, navigatie, entertainment en andere functies samengebracht in de optionele 10,25-inch display van hoge resolutie. Bediening van de functies kan via de iDrive Controller, via het touchscreen of via de intelligente Voice Assistant. BMW Gesture Control, dat reageert op vinger- en handbewegingen, is een optionele bedieningsmogelijkheid.

Alle rijhulpsystemen en voorzieningen zijn leverbaar.
De nieuwe BMW 530e iPerformance kent geen beperkingen als het gaat om uitrusting. Het uitgebreide scala een rijhulpsystemen van de nieuwe BMW 5 Serie is beschikbaar. Die werken óók in de eDrive-modus. Het gamma omvat onder meer een uitwijkhulp, waarschuwing voor kruisend verkeer, Lane Change Assistant en actieve Lane Change Warning, inclusief stuuringreep bij een dreigende aanrijding. Het optionele Active Cruise Control (ACC) en Lane Keeping Assistant (die de bestuurder helpen een veilige afstand te bewaren, te remmen, te versnellen en in de rijstrook te blijven bij snelheden tot 210 km/u)  bieden nieuwe functies, onder meer de mogelijkheid om snelheidslimieten via Speed Limit Assist te versturen aan de ACC, waarbij het mogelijk is een marge van + of – 15 km/u in te stellen. Met deze voorzieningen komt de BMW 530e iPerformance weer een stap dichter bij autonoom rijden.

BMW Connected Onboard: persoonlijk startscherm.
Met de introductie van BMW Connected heeft BMW een allesomvattend digitaal concept gelanceerd om persoonlijke mobiliteit te ondersteunen. Met het platform Open Mobility Cloud als basis, integreert BMW Connected de auto naadloos in het dagelijkse leven van de bestuurder, via onder meer de iPhone, de Apple Watch, Android-smartphone of -watch. Ook nieuw is bijvoorbeeld BMW Connected Onboard, waarmee persoonlijke informatie, zoals het reisdoel, de geschatte aankomsttijd en het actuele weer op de bestemming op de display is te vertonen. BMW Connected kan ook geplande afspraken en ritten uit de mobiele telefoon naar het navigatiesysteem in de auto overbrengen.

Surround View en 3D View helpt de bestuurder in druk stadsverkeer door te allen tijde zicht te bieden op de situatie rondom de auto. Het systeem geeft zowel in vogelperspectief als in 3D de verkeerssituatie rond de auto weer. Met de Remote 3D View-technologie, geïntegreerd in BMW Connected zijn de driedimensionale beelden ook op afstand te bekijken met de smartphone via de BMW Connected App. Zo kan de eigenaar van de BMW 530e iPerformance zijn auto in de gaten houden.

E-mail met Microsoft Exchange.
BMW is de eerste autofabrikant die gebruikers van Microsoft Office 365 in de auto een veilige verbinding biedt met de server om e-mails te versturen en te ontvangen, de agenda en de contacten bij te houden via het in de auto geïntegreerde Microsoft Exchange. Adressen voor afspraken kunnen rechtstreeks in het navigatiesysteem worden geladen en telefoonnummers kunnen direct vanuit een gelinkte telefoon worden gebeld.

Zesde model met iPerformance-label.
Met het label iPerformance wil BMW aangeven dat kennis van het merk BMW i is benut voor alle plug-inhybride BMW modellen. Het gamma, waaraan nu de BMW 530e iPerformance is toegevoegd, omvat ook de BMW 225xe iPerformance, de BMW 330e iPerformance, de BMW X5 40e iPerformance, de BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance en de BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance, die BMW alleen in China aanbiedt. For the time being at least, the new BMW M550i xDrive will assume the status of range-topper in the new BMW 5 Series line-up. Boasting a mighty M Performance TwinPower Turbo engine, BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with rear-wheel bias and a bespoke M Performance chassis set-up, the new BMW M550i xDrive can be classed as both a four-door sports car and the most dynamic business sedan around. With its abundant torque reserves and high-revving characteristics, the V8 power unit serves up a matchless blend of supreme performance, wonderfully precise driving dynamics and uncompromised everyday usability. This all helps the new BMW M550i xDrive to set the pace in its segment and turn each and every drive into an exhilarating experience.

State-of-the-art high-performance engine melds power with efficiency.

The new BMW M550i xDrive is the first BMW 5 Series M Performance model to be powered by a petrol engine, namely a specifically modified M Performance TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder unit with a displacement of 4.4 litres. The V8 is equipped with two twin-scroll turbochargers and features the High Precision Injection direct injection system, Valvetronic fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control. This all adds up to an output of 340 kW/462 hp* at 5,500 rpm* (fuel consumption combined: 8.9 l/100 km [31.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 204 g/km)** and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb‑ft)* that can be summoned from just 1,800 rpm*.

The state-of-the-art, high-performance engine comes with all the dynamic credentials expected of a BMW M Performance Automobile, propelling the BMW M550i xDrive from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0 seconds, then on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). At the same time, the new V8 engine also demonstrates the exceptional efficiency of the M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology. The new BMW M550i xDrive already complies with the exacting EU6c emissions standard.

Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.

Drive transfer in the most powerful BMW 5 Series Sedan is, at present, handled by the standard-fit Steptronic Sport eight-speed transmission, which plays a significant role in the superb dynamics of the BMW M550i xDrive. The M Performance configuration of the shift modes has been tailored to the characteristics of the V8 engine, with distinctly sporty gear changes and more instantaneous downshifts across the entire rev range, and serves to enrich the thrilling driving experience. For an even sharper sporting edge, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission can also be operated using the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The transmission itself helps to cut fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its compact design, low weight and optimised efficiency.

The BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system in the BMW M550i xDrive splits drive power between all four wheels as the situation demands – intelligently and with a rear-wheel bias. BMW xDrive is thereby key to delivering two intrinsic elements of the trademark M Performance driving experience under all conditions: superlative driving performance and extremely precise handling. The exterior of the new BMW M550i xDrive boldly expresses the sedan’s dynamic performance capabilities, while also underlining its status as the flagship model in the new BMW 5 Series range. The M aerodynamic package, including an M rear spoiler with Gurney flap on the boot lid, accentuates the sporty, dynamic lines of the new BMW 5 Series, at the same time as optimising the airflow around and over the car. The exterior mirror caps, the kidney grille surround, the special M Performance bars on the front air intake and the two Air Breathers at the sides all sport the exclusive Cerium Grey metallic finish, while the high-gloss Shadow Line trim around the windows gives added impact to the dynamic business sedan’s undeniably sporty appearance. Driver assistance systems take the hard work out of routine tasks.

Just like the other models in the latest-generation BMW 5 Series line-up, the BMW M550i xDrive also offers an even wider choice of assistance systems to help the driver, if desired. These include an evasion aid, crossing traffic warning system and active Lane Change Warning, which uses steering inputs to avert an impending collision. The optionally available Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assistant now feature extended functionality. And Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which allows speed limits to be automatically imported into the cruise control system, likewise represents another step along the road to automated driving for the BMW M550i xDrive.

Forging an even closer link between man, machine and the outside world.

The latest generation of the BMW 5 Series enables close-knit connectivity between the driver, vehicle and outside world thanks to BMW Connected. This new system links up devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, computers and tablets, as well as the vehicle’s navigation system, via the BMW servers. This, then, is highly intelligent technology. Indeed, it is capable of identifying movement patterns as well as personal preferences, turning it into a de facto personal mobility manager that helps users to overcome with ease the increasingly complex challenges of day-to-day mobility. Before the journey has even started, BMW Connected automatically factors in Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) for route-planning purposes, and recommends departing earlier if a detour has to be made due to traffic hold-ups. And although BMW Connected uses the vehicle’s location as the basis for calculating the route in the usual way, it takes the BMW driver’s whereabouts into account too. The new system also merges the functions and services of the familiar BMW Remote app and BMW Connected app. Plus, users are able to access products such as ParkNow for digitised reservation and payment of parking spaces, not to mention the intelligent On-Street Parking Information feature, which identifies the areas of a town where drivers are most likely to find a free parking spot. And if the optional Remote Parking system is specified, the BMW 5 Series Sedan can be manoeuvred into even the tightest spaces from outside the vehicle with the help of the car key. Last but not least, once the car has been parked, BMW Connected helps to guide users to their final destination on foot.

Sportiness and everyday usability in perfect harmony.

The BMW M Performance Automobiles are exclusive products from BMW M GmbH and slot in between the top-of-the-range standard BMW models and the core M models built for maximum performance. “We develop the BMW M Performance Automobiles for customers who are seeking very sporty driving characteristics yet do not wish to sacrifice any of their BMW’s everyday practicality,” explains Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “The experience and expertise garnered by BMW M in the world of motor sport and the development of high-performance sports cars are also channelled into the development of our BMW M Performance Automobiles. The sales success clearly demonstrates that we are on the right track. We will expand our product range wisely and close any gaps in the line-up strategically.”

De BMW 530e iPerformance is de innovatiefste auto in zijn klasse, met alle mogelijke rijhulpsystemen van de BMW 5 Serie – in alle rijmodi inclusief eDrive. Vermogensafgifte op niveau van verbrandingsmotor met grote cilinderinhoud.
De state-of-the-art elektromotor van het BMW eDrive-systeem heeft een vermogen van 70 kW (95 pk) en 250 Nm koppel. De viercilinder 2,0-liter verbrandingsmotor biedt 135 kW (184 pk) vermogen en 320 Nm koppel. De gemiddelde CO2-emissie bedraagt slechts 44 g/km. Het systeemvermogen en -koppel liggen op 185 kW (252 pk) en 420 Nm. De elektromotor en de verbrandingsmotor leveren beide hun kracht via een achttraps Steptronic-transmissie aan de achterwielen.

De BMW 530e iPerformance heeft slechts 6,2 seconden nodig voor de sprint vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u en hij bereikt een topsnelheid van 235 km/u. In de praktijk bedraagt de actieradius tot wel 650 kilometer en puur elektrisch is het bereik 50 kilometer bij snelheden tot 140 km/u.

De elektromotor is vóór de transmissie geplaatst, zodat het vermogen ook in volledig elektrische rijmodus via de transmissie naar de achterwielen gaat. Daardoor is een koppelomvormer overbodig, wat grotendeels het extra gewicht van de elektromotor compenseert.

De hogespanningsbatterij is opgebouwd uit lithium-ion-cellen met een capaciteit van 9,2 kWh. Het pakket is ondergebracht onder de achterbank en voorzien van een geïntegreerd koelcircuit. Opladen kan binnen vijf uur aan een standaard stopcontact thuis. Met een BMW i Wallbox (3,7 kWh laadcapaciteit) bedraagt de oplaadtijd slechts drie uur. Door de plaatsing van de batterij onder de achterbank heeft de BMW 530e iPerformance maar liefst 420 liter bagageruimte en een vlakke laadvloer.

BMW is de eerste autofabrikant die gebruikers van Microsoft Office 365 in de auto een veilige verbinding biedt met de server om e-mails te versturen en te ontvangen, de agenda en de contacten bij te houden via het in de auto geïntegreerde Microsoft Exchange. Adressen voor afspraken kunnen rechtstreeks in het navigatiesysteem worden geladen en telefoonnummers kunnen direct vanuit een gelinkte telefoon worden gebeld.

Zesde model met iPerformance-label.
Met het label iPerformance wil BMW aangeven dat kennis van het merk BMW i is benut voor alle plug-inhybride BMW modellen. Het gamma, waaraan nu de BMW 530e iPerformance is toegevoegd, omvat ook de BMW 225xe iPerformance, de BMW 330e iPerformance, de BMW X5 40e iPerformance, de BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance en de BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance, die BMW alleen in China aanbiedt. BMW biedt hiermee een uiterst gevarieerd gamma iPerformance-modellen, van compact tot topklasse. De nieuwe BMW 530e iPerformance is het zesde model in het iPerformance-gamma en er zullen meer volgen.
