Zijn sportievere uitstraling, grotere visuele impact en ruimere veelzijdigheid dan ooit maakt van de nieuwe BMW X3 een getalenteerde allrounder voor dagelijks gebruik, vrijetijdsactiviteiten en reizen in het kernsegment van het merk. Een nieuwe designtaal geeft de vierde generatie van het Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) voor het middenklassesegment een sterk verbeterde uitstraling en dynamische elegantie. Hoogwaardige materialen, een veel royalere standaarduitrusting, geavanceerde digitalisering en de nieuwe BMW iDrive met QuickSelect op basis van het BMW Operating System 9 zetten de toon voor de hoogwaardige sfeer in het vooruitstrevende interieur. Rijplezier, veiligheid en langeafstandscomfort in de nieuwe BMW X3 plukken ook de vruchten van de buitengewoon precieze afstelling van de wagen en een brede waaier aan semiautomatische rijhulp- en parkeersystemen.

De nieuwe BMW X3 introduceert met zijn uitgebreide modelgamma belangrijke verbeteringen op het vlak van efficiëntie en dynamische prestaties. Het motorenpalet omvat niet alleen uiterst efficiënte benzine- en dieselmotoren, maar ook een plug-in-hybridesysteem van de nieuwste generatie dat de nieuwe BMW X3 30e xDrive (verbruik, gewogen en gecombineerd: 24,0 – 22,3 kWh/100 km en 1,1 – 0,9 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot, gewogen en gecombineerd: 26 – 21 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus; brandstofverbruik met lege batterij: 7,9 – 7,2 l/100 km volgens de WLTP-cyclus; CO₂-klassen: met lege batterij G – F; gewogen en gecombineerd B) een elektrisch rijbereik geeft van 81 – 90 kilometer volgens de WLTP-cyclus. Met zijn tot 293 kW/398 pk verhoogde vermogen en dynamische prestaties om zijn rivalen te overtroeven, is de nieuwe BMW X3 M50 xDrive M Performance (brandstofverbruik, gecombineerd: 8,3 – 7,7 l/100 km; gecombineerde CO₂-uitstoot: 189 – 175 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus; CO₂-klasse(n) G – F) een aantrekkelijk aanbod.

De uitstraling van moderniteit en verbeterde productinhoud van de nieuwe editie vormen de ideale basis om een nieuw hoofdstuk toe te voegen aan het succesverhaal van de BMW X3 – dat 20 jaar geleden van start ging. Sinds hij de aanzet gaf tot het SAV-segment in de premium middenklasse, heeft hij een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de gestage groei van de populariteit van de BMW X-modellen. In 2023 werd hij zelfs het best verkochte model van het merk. De nieuwe BMW X3 zal in de fabrieken van de BMW Group in Spartanburg (VS) en Rosslyn (Zuid-Afrika) worden gebouwd met behulp van een productieproces waarbij het behoud van hulpbronnen en circulariteit centraal staan. In het vierde kwartaal van 2024 zal de marktlancering van start gaan in Europa en de VS en vanaf januari 2025 zal hij zijn intrede doen op tal van andere markten.

Nieuwe designtaal zet opvallende proporties in de verf.

Een nieuwe designtaal voor het koetswerk geeft de vierde generatie van de BMW X3 een haast monolithisch uiterlijk met opvallende BMW X-modelverhoudingen. De royaal bemeten oppervlakken gaan hand in hand met slechts enkele scherpe lijnen om tot een duidelijk gestructureerd koetswerk te komen dat tot de essentie werd herleid. Met zijn 4.755 millimeter is de nieuwe BMW X3 34 millimeter langer dan zijn voorganger, terwijl de breedte met 29 millimeter toenam tot 1.920 millimeter. Samen met de 25 millimeter verlaagde voertuighoogte tot 1.660 millimeter en de grotere spoorbreedte resulteert dat in een erg krachtige en sportieve look.

De grote BMW nieren in de rechtopstaande voorkant van de nieuwe BMW X3 geven hem een zelfverzekerde uitstraling. Een nieuwe structuur voor de binnenkant van het radiatorrooster, met verticaal en diagonaal geplaatste spijltjes, voegt een frisse toets toe. De optionele BMW Iconic Glow-contourverlichting vormt een doorlopende lijn rond elk element van het radiatorrooster. De dagrijlichten, zijlichten en richtingaanwijzers in de LED headlights zijn nu allemaal het resultaat van L-vormige, overlappende lichtbronnen. De Adaptive LED Headlights met niet-verblindende matrixgrootlichten, stadsverlichting en hoekverlichting zijn als optie verkrijgbaar, net als de M lights Shadow Line.

Opvallende zijschorten en een daklijn die tot diep in de achterkant doorloopt, zijn de onderscheidende kenmerken van het sportieve silhouet van het nieuwe model. De opvallend gewelfde wielkasten laten de achterkant er behoorlijk breed uitzien. De vlak aansluitende achterruit wordt omzoomd door een lange dakspoiler en de luchtdeflectoren aan de zijkant. Alle modelvarianten behalve de BMW X3 M50 xDrive zijn voorzien van uitlaatpijpen die uit het zicht in de achterschort zijn geïntegreerd. De frisse interpretatie van de typische T-vormige lay-out en een gesatineerde horizontale stang met geïntegreerde richtingaanwijzers helpen de achterlichten een erg moderne look te geven.

Voor het koetswerk van de nieuwe BMW X3 is er keuze uit één niet-metaalkleur en acht metaalkleuren, waaronder de nieuwe metaalkleur Dune Grey. Modellen geproduceerd in de fabriek van de BMW Group in Spartanburg zullen ook verkrijgbaar zijn met BMW Individual lakkleuren, waaronder twee matglanzende Frozen-opties.

De nieuwe BMW X3 is standaard uitgerust met lichtmetalen velgen van 18" (BMW X3 30e xDrive: 19"), maar velgen van 20 en 21" zijn ook verkrijgbaar als af fabriek gemonteerde opties. Het optionele M Sportpakket creëert een uiterst dynamische look met kenmerken zoals BMW M 19" lichtmetalen velgen en speciale designelementen om de luchtstroom en de aerodynamische balans te optimaliseren. Het M Sport Pack Pro (standard op de X3 M50) bouwt hierop voort door onder andere de Iconic Glow-contourverlichting en M sportremmen met roodgelakte remklauwen toe te voegen.

Sportieve premium sfeer en royale ruimte.

Het interieur van de nieuwe BMW X3 combineert een robuuste SAV-functionaliteit met een zee aan ruimte en een luxueuze sfeer boordevol individuele stijlelementen. Het BMW Curved Display, de BMW Interaction Bar, de stuurwielen met onderaan afgeplatte rand en de vernieuwde versnellingspook zijn de kenmerkende elementen van de moderne look van de cockpit die typerend is voor het bestuurdersgerichte design van BMW. Andere modelspecifieke hoogtepunten zijn onder meer lichtelementen in een contrasterende kleur in de middenconsole en de deurbekleding. Dit nieuwe designkenmerk bevindt zich aan de voorzijde van de bestuurders- en passagiersdeur, waar het een rand vormt rond functieknoppen, ventilatieregelaars, ventilatieopeningen en de robuuste deuropeners die typisch zijn voor de BMW X-modellen.

De individuele sfeer van het interieur gaat hand in hand met een royale hoeveelheid ruimte en moderne veelzijdigheid. De laadruimte kan worden uitgebreid van 570 tot maximaal 1.700 liter (BMW X3 30e xDrive: 460 – 1.600 liter). Een aanhangwagenkoppeling die elektrisch in- en uitklapt kan als optie worden besteld. De maximaal toegestane aanhangwagenbelasting is 2.500 kilogram, afhankelijk van de modelvariant.

De nieuwe BMW X3 is standaard uitgerust met nieuw ontworpen, elektrisch verstelbare en verwarmde sportzetels in Econeer, met oppervlakken en kussens gemaakt van secundair materiaal. Bekledingen in Veganza en BMW Individual Merino leder zijn allebei als optie verkrijgbaar. Een primeur voor BMW modellen is het optionele instrumentenbord Luxury, gemaakt van gerecycleerd polyester met een hoogwaardige gebreide textuur.

Plug-in-hybride met een aanzienlijk groter elektrisch rijbereik.

Het aandrijfsysteem van de BMW X3 30e xDrive plug-in-hybride bestaat uit een 2,0 liter grote viercilinder benzinemotor, gekoppeld aan een elektromotor die in de achtversnellingsbak Steptronic is geïntegreerd. Die bundelen hun krachten om een systeemvermogen tot 220 kW/299 pk te genereren.

Met behulp van de nieuwste BMW eDrive-technologie en adaptieve recuperatie haalt de nieuwe BMW X3 30e xDrive in de WLTP-cyclus een elektrisch rijbereik van 81 – 90 kilometer, wat aanzienlijk meer is dan zijn voorganger kon bieden. Zijn Combined Charging Unit maakt het mogelijk om standaard te laden met 11 kW wisselstroom.

BMW X3 M50 xDrive met topprestaties.

Het topmodel, de nieuwe BMW X3 M50 xDrive, is uitgerust met de krachtigste zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor die ooit in een M Performance-model is gemonteerd. De 3,0 liter M TwinPower Turbo is gekoppeld aan 48V Mild Hybrid-technologie. Zijn maximumvermogen van 293 kW/398 pk wordt overgebracht op de weg via een achttraps sportversnellingsbak Steptronic en intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive. De BMW X3 M50 xDrive sprint in 4,6 seconden van stilstand naar 100 km/u.

Deze verbluffend potente krachtbron gaat hand in hand met de speciale chassistechnologie om een meeslepende mix van wendbaarheid, dynamiek en precisie te bieden. De M sportophanging met Variable Sport Steering, de M sportremmen, de BMW M 20" lichtmetalen velgen en het in de achteras geïntegreerde M sportdifferentieel zijn standaard. Er is ook de optie van een adaptieve M sportophanging met elektronisch gestuurde schokdempers. M specifieke designkenmerken, de M nieren met horizontale spijltjes en de BMW Iconic Glow-contourverlichting en het kwartet uitlaatpijpen onderstrepen de status van het BMW M model als krachtigste versie van de nieuwe BMW X3.

Systematische elektrificatie voor benzine- en dieselmotoren, achtversnellingsbak Steptronic en vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive standaard.

48V Mild Hybrid-technologie geeft ook alle andere varianten van de nieuwe BMW X3 meer efficiëntie en een snelle vermogensontplooiing. Zo kan de 2,0 liter viercilinder benzinemotor in de nieuwe BMW X3 20 xDrive (brandstofverbruik gecombineerd: 7,6 – 6,9 l/100 km; gecombineerde CO₂-uitstoot: 172 – 156 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus, CO₂-klasse: F) een maximumvermogen van 153 kW/208 pk leveren. Dat vertaalt zich in een acceleratietijd van 0 naar 100 km/u in 7,8 seconden.

De viercilinder dieselmotor met een cilinderinhoud van 2,0 liter onder de motorkap van de nieuwe BMW X3 20d xDrive (brandstofverbruik gecombineerd: 6,5 – 5,8 l/100 km; gecombineerde CO₂-uitstoot: 171 – 153 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus; CO₂-klassen: F – E) heeft een maximumvermogen van 145 kW/197 pk. Het dieselmodel legt de sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u af in 7,7 seconden. In de zomer van 2025 wordt een zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor toegevoegd aan het gamma van de nieuwe BMW X3.

Alle krachtbronnen zijn standaard gekoppeld aan een achtversnellingsbak Steptronic met schakelpaddles aan het stuur. Er is ook een Sport Boost-functie voor uitzonderlijk snelle toerentalsprongen op modellen met het M Sportpakket en op de nieuwe BMW X3 M50 xDrive. Verder beschikken alle modelvarianten standaard over een volledig variabele verdeling van de aandrijfkracht via de intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive.

Wendbaarheid en rijcomfort leggen de lat hoger.

Alle modelvarianten van de nieuwe BMW X3 kunnen bogen op rijkwaliteiten die duidelijk de wendbaarheid, de stabiliteit in bochten en het langeafstandscomfort ten opzichte van het vorige model verbeteren. Een koetswerk met een lager gewicht maar een hogere stijfheid en de grotere spoorbreedte achteraan spelen hierbij een rol, net als de hoogwaardige chassisonderdelen en controlesystemen die voor dit specifieke model werden afgesteld. Wijzigingen aan de kinematische en elastokinematische eigenschappen van de veerbeenvooras met twee draaipunten en de achteras met vijf wielarmen hebben de precisie in bochten verhoogd, terwijl de 19 procent grotere naspoorhoek van de stuuras de rechtuitstabiliteit bevordert. De slipbeperking bij de inschakeling en het geïntegreerde remsysteem maken eveneens deel uit van het standaardpakket qua chassistechnologie.

Klanten die op zoek zijn naar een nog dynamischer rijgedrag kunnen opteren voor de optionele M sportophanging met Sport Steering en M sportremmen (beide standaard op de nieuwe BMW X3 M50 xDrive). De adaptieve ophanging – ook terug te vinden in de optielijst – scherpt de wendbaarheid van de nieuwe BMW X3 aan en verhoogt tegelijk het rijcomfort.

Driving Assistant Pack en Parking Assistant Pack standaard.

De nieuwe BMW X3 biedt een veel uitgebreider gamma standaard- en optionele systemen voor semiautomatisch rijden en parkeren. Hij is standaard uitgerust met een botswaarschuwing vooraan, Lane Departure Warning en Speed Limit Info, samen met het Driving Assistant Pack met Lane Change Warning en manuele Speed Limit Assist. Het (eveneens standaard) Parking Assistant Pack omvat functies zoals de Reversing Assistant en een achteruitrijcamera.

Een van de hoogtepunten in de lijst van optionele systemen zijn de Steering & Lane Control Assistant, de automatische Speed Limit Assist en de snelheidsregeling bij gebruik van de Active Cruise Control met Stop&Go functie. Het optionele Parking Assistant Pack Professional maakt het mogelijk om het parkeren en de algemene manoeuvres van buitenaf te regelen met behulp van een smartphone.

Royalere standaarduitrusting voor meer comfort en rijplezier.

Naast de extra rijhulpsystemen biedt de veel royalere standaarduitrusting in vergelijking met het vorige model nog tal van andere voorzieningen die het comfort en rijplezier van de nieuwe BMW X3 ten goede komen. Voorbeelden daarvan zijn een automatische airconditioning met drie zones, akoestisch glas, comforttoegang, automatische bediening van de achterklep, een elektrisch inklapmechanisme voor de buitenspiegels, een alarmsysteem en BMW Live Cockpit Navigation Plus, compleet met het navigatiesysteem BMW Maps in de cloud. De nieuwe BMW X3 is ook standaard uitgerust met sfeerverlichting met een Welcome en Goodbye Animation, een wireless charging tray voor compatibele smartphones, een Bluetooth-interface, vier USB-C-poorten, een 12V-stopcontact in de middenconsole en nog een in de bagageruimte.

De als optie verkrijgbare BMW Live Cockpit Navigation Professional voegt niet alleen het BMW Head-Up Display toe, maar ook de functie Augmented View op het Control Display. Daarnaast zijn er nieuwe uitrustingspakketten beschikbaar voor een gerichte personalisering van de wagen. Het Premium Pack omvat een lendensteun, het Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, het Travel & Comfort System en Adaptive LED Headlights. En het Comfort Pack voegt zonnegordijnen toe voor de zijruiten achteraan, actieve zetelventilatie vooraan en zetelverwarming achteraan. Op de optielijst staat ook een vast panoramisch doorschijnend schuifdak met een groot, transparant oppervlak zonder dwarsverbindingen die het dak verdelen, stuurverwarming, zonnewerend glas achteraan en een standverwarmingsfunctie. De nieuwe BMW X3 30e xDrive wordt dan weer geleverd met de BMW IconicSounds Electric voor speciale geluidseffecten.

BMW Operating System 9, BMW iDrive met QuickSelect en BMW Digital Premium.

De nieuwe BMW X3 wordt geleverd met de nieuwste versie van BMW iDrive met QuickSelect voor een intuïtieve, eenvoudige bediening. Het nieuwe startscherm geeft functiepictogrammen verticaal weer op hetzelfde niveau. Met de QuickSelect-functie kunnen functies rechtstreeks worden geactiveerd zonder naar een submenu te gaan. De nieuwe BMW iDrive is volledig afgestemd op aanraak- en spraakbediening. Het systeem is gebaseerd op het BMW Operating System 9, dat ook de weg vrijmaakt voor een personaliseerbare selectie van bijkomende digitale diensten. Die kunnen ‘over the air’ worden aangeboden, zowel via de BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades-mogelijkheid als dankzij een steeds uitgebreidere reeks apps van derden die als onderdeel van het optionele BMW Digital Premium Pack worden aangeboden.

Smartphone-integratie met Apple CarPlay® en Android Auto™ is eveneens standaard. Met het BMW ID en de My BMW App kunt u de gebruikerservaring in de nieuwe BMW X3 eenvoudig personaliseren. Ook is er de mogelijkheid om met de My BMW App de BMW Digital Key Plus met draadloze ultra-wideband-technologie in te stellen voor compatibele smartphones met iOS of Android of voor een Apple Watch.

Munich/Miramas. At the end of series development, the new BMW X3 undergoes final tuning of all chassis control and driver assistance systems at the BMW Group test centre in Miramas, southern France. The fourth generation of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the premium mid-range vehicle segment will be presented in a few weeks' time with both highly efficient combustion engines and an advanced plug-in hybrid drive. The development and test engineers ensure that all model variants of the new BMW X3, regardless of drive concept and weight, demonstrate superior handling in every situation with an intensive tuning programme. The well-coordinated functionality of all automated driving and parking systems in the new BMW X3 also contributes to a harmonious customer experience.

The new BMW X3 has already undergone extensive testing on snow and ice, in extremely hot regions and off-road on its way to series production. The SAV's suitability for everyday use and travelling was tested and refined in urban stop-and-go traffic as well as on winding country roads, highways and selected race tracks.

Perfectly coordinated systems for a typical BMW driving experience.

The development engineers use the versatile test track in Miramas to put the finishing touches to the driving experience of the new BMW X3. In addition to an asphalt oval and a highway ring, there are also slalom, serpentine and circular tracks as well as off-road courses and handling courses with different road surfaces. This allows the longitudinal and lateral acceleration, suspension and damping, steering precision and braking behaviour of the new BMW X3 to be analysed and optimised down to the last detail.

The driving dynamics and efficiency of the new BMW X3 benefit from intelligent lightweight construction and optimised aerodynamic properties. With a drag coefficient (C_d) of 0.27, it sets new standards in its competitive environment.

Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW X3 also has a wider track and reduced lift at the rear axle. In addition, the rigidity of the body and the chassis connection has been increased. Targeted improvements to the kinematics and elastokinematics of both axles, combined with a 19 per cent increase in the caster of the front wheels, ensure noticeably improved directional stability. A more direct steering ratio enhances steering comfort, while extensively modified anti-roll bars improve cornering dynamics without compromising ride comfort.

An Adaptive Chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers is available as an option for the new BMW X3. The final tuning is part of the driving dynamics test at Miramas and offers two maps that can be selected via My Modes. In addition, the new version of the SAV comes as standard with the latest version of BMW Lateral Dynamics Management, which ensures precise control of the required steering torques, the actuator-based wheel slip limitation and the yaw torque distribution of Performance Control, adapted to the driving situation at all times.

Thanks to BMW's unique development expertise, all components and systems of the drive and chassis technology are perfectly matched. The result is the characteristic combination of precision, sovereignty and versatility that characterises the driving experience in a BMW SAV. 

Automated driving is also optimised by BMW's typical level of integration.

The new BMW X3 features the latest BMW iDrive based on the BMW Operating System 9 including BMW iDrive Controller and offers a significantly expanded selection of systems for automated driving and parking compared to the predecessor model. With its standard equipment, it clearly exceeds the requirements of the Euro NCAP safety test. The particularly sensitive braking and steering interventions of the assistance systems compared to the competition are another example of the unique integration performance of BMW riving dynamics development. They enable harmonious interaction between driver and vehicle in every situation.

The outstanding functionality of all assistance systems is based on state-of-the-art sensor technology as well as software, processor and network technology. Highlights in the new BMW X3 include the Active Lane Change Assistant and the Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant, which allows the driver to control manoeuvres from outside the vehicle using a smartphone.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. For the third time in a row, BMW M GmbH ended the financial year as the global market leader in the performance and high-performance car segment. Indeed, the company posted record sales once again in 2021. A total of 163,542 BMW M cars were delivered to customers worldwide last year, a 13 percent increase on 2020.

This growth was spread equally between the High-Performance sports cars and Performance cars made by BMW M GmbH, with both product categories raising their sales figures to a new level. “This success is the perfect start to our anniversary year,” says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “M is in a stronger position than ever as it celebrates its 50th birthday.”

New BMW M3 and new BMW M4 enjoy immediate success.

The biggest drivers of growth among the High-Performance sports cars were the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 models introduced in spring 2021. Fuelled by a vehicle concept focused squarely on emotionally charged dynamism and unprecedented diversity in the model range, the new BMW M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.0 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 231 – 227 g/km as per WLTP), new BMW M4 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.0 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 230 – 226 g/km as per WLTP) and new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 l/100 km [27.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 233 – 231 g/km as per WLTP) got off to an extremely successful start. The latest model generation is the first to offer customers two output levels topping out at 375 kW/510 hp, the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of either a six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

“The response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been simply overwhelming,” reports Timo Resch, Vice President Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “We can therefore expect demand for these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022.”

Also making a powerful contribution to the latest rise in High-Performance model sales at BMW M GmbH were the BMW X5 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.6 – 13.3 l/100 km [20.8 – 21,2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 308 – 303 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km [21.1 – 21.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 305 – 299 g/km as per WLTP). Following the successful market launch of the latest model generation the previous year, the charismatic High-Performance sports cars in the Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segment – both powered by a 460 kW/625 hp V8 engine – increased their sales figures once again in 2021.

Alluring and in demand: the BMW M models in the BMW 4 Series range.

The dynamic excellence, agility and precision for which M is renowned also enabled the brand’s Performance models to delight and excite a wide range of customers over the past year. Credit for the latest boost to sales goes above all to the M models based on the new BMW 4 Series. Particularly popular were the variants of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé, whose line-up consists of the BMW M440i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.1 – 7.4 l/100 km [34.8 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 184 – 167 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW M440i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.5 l/100 km [34.5 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 186 – 170 g/km as per WLTP) powered by a 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, and the BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km [44.8 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 165 – 150 g/km as per WLTP), whose six-cylinder in-line diesel unit produces 250 kW/340 hp.

The latest BMW X models within the ranks of M’s Performance cars also proved extremely desirable. Indeed, the BMW X3 M40i powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with 265 kW/360 hp (fuel consumption combined: 9.5 – 8.8 l/100 km [29.7 – 32.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 216 – 199 g/km as per WLTP) and the BMW X7 M50i (fuel consumption combined: 12.8 – 12.3 l/100 km [22.1 – 23.0 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 292 – 280 g/km as per WLTP) with its 390 kW/530 hp V8 unit both posted an increase in new registrations.

Looking ahead to an anniversary year brimming with highlights.

BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive in this anniversary year with the addition of new High-Performance and Performance models. Highlights include the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) and the arrival later in the year of the first BMW M3 Touring and an exclusive special-edition model based on the new BMW M4 Coupé.

In addition, the BMW Group subsidiary – which was founded as BMW Motorsport GmbH in May 1972 and enjoys the status of an independent manufacturer – will also drive the transformation to electric mobility. Following in the tyre tracks of the BMW i4 M50 (electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km) in the first half of 2022 will be the likewise fully electric BMW iX M60 (projected electric power consumption combined: 24.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The most powerful BMW M model ever made points the way to the future of the brand.

The anniversary year will be crowned by the start of production of the BMW XM. The most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production is also the brand’s first High-Performance model to employ a plug-in hybrid drive system. Its newly developed M Hybrid technology brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The design of the BMW XM majors on presence and extrovert appeal and in so doing sends out a clear statement in the luxury segment.

“Our first standalone model since the legendary BMW M1 represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says van Meel. “The BMW XM blends expressive design and progressive interior luxury with an incomparable driving experience that serves up both sublime performance and the ability to glide along in near silence in all-electric mode. In so doing, it provides an inimitable expression of poise and assurance, and at the same time points the way to the future of our brand.”

Munich. The sales launch of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 in November 2021 marks the beginning of a new era of purely electric premium mobility. In addition to sustainable driving pleasure, the two new models also offer the latest innovations in the field of driver assistance systems and, with the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system, represent the future of intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. Parallel to this, the BMW model range will also undergo targeted further development in autumn 2021. Additional drive variants and innovations in the areas of design and digital services increase the diversity and attractiveness of the current range.

The model range of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will be expanded by three new drive variants from November 2021. In future, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission will be standard equipment for one additional model variant each of the BMW X1 and the BMW X2. New paint finishes are available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 models. The functional scope of the My BMW App is complemented by further digital services. The BMW i brand is not only setting trends with its two new models. The pioneer of all-electric premium mobility, the BMW i3, will be offered in a limited Unique Forever Edition from November 2021. And in the BMW iX3, a predictive battery heat management system will optimise the way in which DC fast charging stations will be used in the future.

BMW 4 Series Convertible: Two additional BMW M automobiles and a further all-wheel drive model.
The combination of sporty performance and open-air pleasure in a BMW 4 Series model will be enriched even further in autumn 2021. In the new BMW M 440i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 190 - 175 g/km according to WLTP), a 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensures particularly purist driving pleasure by transferring its power to the rear wheels. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential in the final drive also contribute to the thrilling driving dynamics as standard. This is reflected, among other things, by accerlation from 0 - 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

An inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system make the second new BMW M automobile a thrilling open-top drive. With a peak output of 250 kW/340 hp, a maximum torque of 700 Nm and 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the new BMW M440d xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 172 - 157 g/km according to WLTP) has impressive pulling power. 5.0 seconds are sufficient for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential are also standard equipment in this model variant.

In addition, the model range for the open-top four-seater in the premium mid-size segment is expanded to include the new BMW 430i xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 – 7.3 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 183 - 166 g/km according to WLTP). With its 180 kW/245 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and the M sports differential are optionally available for this model.

BMW X1 xDrive18d and BMW X2 xDrive18d now feature 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Driving pleasure and comfort will be enhanced in autumn 2021 as the 8-speed Steptronic transmission is included in further model variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 as standard. The fast and efficient automatic transmission is characterised by a high level of shifting comfort and a particularly favourable internal efficiency. In future, it will also be available as standard with the 110 kW/150 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine of the BMW X1 xDrive18d models (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 142 g/km according to WLTP) and the BMW X2 xDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 142 g/km according to WLTP).

With the new drive combination, both models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. An optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available, operated by paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

New paint finishes for numerous model series.
New paint finishes for numerous current BMW models allow for additional customisation opportunities. The Skyscraper Grey metallic variant will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 from November 2021. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as Aventurine Red metallic for the BMW X3 and the BMW X4.

My BMW App with extended range of functions.
Planning travel routes and transferring them to the car, receiving information about the car’ status and live images from its surroundings, arranging service appointments or receiving news from the brand - the My BMW app makes all this possible on the customer's smartphone. It serves as a universal interface for communication between car and customer, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. The range of functions of the My BMW App will be expanded again in autumn 2021. In future, for example, the images transmitted by the Remote 3D View service will be stored in a gallery, including information about the location and time of the shots. The status of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation is now also clearly displayed in the My BMW app.

In addition, the My BMW app now also provides drivers with comprehensive information on the condition of the vehicle's tyres on their smartphone. This new feature helps to minimise the risk of breakdowns and is available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4 as well as the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. The My BMW app displays the wheel-specific values as measured by the tyre pressure system. In addition, the digital tyre diagnosis, which is unique in the competitive environment, can also transmit information about a defect or wear of the tyres via the My BMW app. In the BMW backend, the data from the tyre pressure control system is processed together with the values for temperature and wheel speeds to create a forecast of the remaining life of the tyres. As a supplement to tyre pressure control, indications of tyre damage are also registered.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW iX3.
To ensure the fastest and most efficient power feed at DC fast-charging stations, regardless of operating and outside temperatures, the BMW iX3 (combined power consumption: 19.0 - 18.6 L/100 km according to WLTP, 18.5 - 18.9 L/100 km according to NEDC) will be equipped with intelligent thermal management for the high-voltage battery as in the BMW i4 / BMW iX from November 2021. As soon as the active route guidance of the navigation system foresees a stopover at a High Power Charging Station, it already ensures that the battery is automatically preconditioned before arrival.

The appropriate heating or cooling ensures that the high-voltage battery is at the ideal temperature for charging at maximum power on arrival. The thermal management takes into account, among other things, the battery temperature, the remaining range, the predicted charging power and the planned scope of the charging process as part of the overall route calculation.

BMW i3 and BMW i3s in the Unique Forever Edition.
From November 2021, the BMW i3 models (combined electricity consumption: 16.3 - 15.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 13.1 L/100 km according to NEDC and BMW i3s (combined electricity consumption: 16.6 - 16.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 14.6 - 14.0 L/100 km according to NEDC) in the Unique Forever Edition. The naming of the new special edition refers to the unique character of the world's first premium automobile designed from the outset for purely electric mobility. The BMW i3 represents a holistic understanding of sustainability not only with its drive system, but also with its particularly lightweight passenger cell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and extensive use of natural and recycled materials in its interior. Eight years after being launched on the market, it is still a globally recognised symbol of locally emission-free urban mobility.

The edition vehicles are characterised by particularly high-grade and exclusive design and equipment features. The two BMW Individual paint finishes, available for the first time for the BMW i3, ensure a stylish appearance. The Aventurine Red metallic variant is combined with an accent in Frozen Grey metallic and the Storm Bay metallic paint finish with an accent in Frozen E-Copper. The interior surfaces of the BMW grille are also finished in the respective accent colour. Other special features include the omission of the trim strip and model lettering on the luggage compartment lid and a black insert for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the Suite equipment world - including the Vernasca Dark Truffle leather combination, the leather instrument panel, the fine wood surface in dark matt oak, the leather steering wheel, the Carum grey roof lining and the ambient lighting - are supplemented by specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the words "Unique Forever", the door trim panels in the area of the exterior mirrors bear the inscription "One of 2,000“.

The Unique Forever Edition models are produced in a limited edition of 2,000 units at the BMW plant in Leipzig. Only electricity generated by the wind turbines on the factory premises is used.

Sportiever, moderner en digitaler. Voor de tweede fase van de modelcyclus heeft BMW zijn succesvolle Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) en Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) opgefrist met een nieuwe look, een rijkere uitrusting en een voor de klanten geoptimaliseerde gammastructuur. De hertekende voorkant en herwerkte achterkant leggen nog meer nadruk op de robuuste terreinwagenlook en de sportieve uitstraling van de derde BMW X3-generatie. Zijn coupétegenhanger, de tweede BMW X4-generatie, neemt de nieuwe neus over en voegt er zijn eigen accenten aan toe, zoals de exclusieve nieren met BMW-honingraatrooster. Ook oogt de achterkant bijzonder dynamisch. De facelift wordt voltooid door het moderne interieur met nieuwe uitrustingskenmerken en een vernieuwd infotainmentsysteem. BMW M GmbH geeft de M-versies van de BMW X3 en BMW X4 eveneens een upgrade (zie hier).

Moderne aandrijftechnologie en een duidelijkere productstructuur.

De ‘mild hybrid’-technologie met een startmotor/generator van 48 volt, die nu ook verkrijgbaar is met alle benzinemotoren, garandeert een brede waaier aan hoogtechnologische aandrijfsystemen. Deze omvatten de BMW X3 xDrive30e (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus, gewogen: 2,6 – 2,0 l/100 km; stroomverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus, gewogen: 20,5 – 18,9 kWh/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus, gewogen: 59 – 45 g/km) en bijzonder performante benzine- en dieselmodellen van BMW M GmbH bovenaan het gamma. In Duitsland is elke BMW X3 en BMW X4 standaard uitgerust met de vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive. De nieuwe gammastructuur legt meer nadruk op sportiviteit en ‘X-ness’ en verhoogt de helderheid door doelbewust minimalisme. Het M-sportpakket en de bekende M-varianten zijn verkrijgbaar als alternatief voor de standaarduitrusting en verrijken de wagen met hoogwaardige X-elementen. De marktintroductie is voorzien voor de zomer van 2021, na de start van de productie in de fabriek van Spartanburg (VS) in augustus 2021. De nieuwe BMW X3 en de nieuwe BMW X4 beleven hun wereldpremière op het autosalon van Chengdu in China (27 augustus tot 5 september), terwijl de Europese première plaatsvindt op de IAA in München (7 tot 12 september).

BMW X3 met klassieke X-elementen en sportieve genen.

De nieuwe BMW X3 oogt moderner en heeft een krachtigere uitstraling, met een hertekende voor- en achterkant die meer nadruk leggen op klassieke X-elementen. De nieren en koplampen van BMW werden samen met de voorbumperschort en de achterbumper herwerkt en de achterlichten kregen een nieuwe grafische uitwerking. Hoogwaardige X-elementen zoals bodembeschermers en specifieke zijschorten in de stijl van de vorige X Line zijn reeds standaard. De sportieve genen van het Sports Activity Vehicle worden onderstreept door het M-sportpakket en de BMW X3 M40i (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 9,5 – 8,8 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 216 – 199 g/km) en de BMW X3 M40d (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 7,3 – 6,6 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 192 – 173 g/km).

Nieuwe BMW-nieren en vlakkere koplampen.

Met de vernieuwde BMW-nieren, koplampen die zo’n tien millimeter vlakker zijn en de nieuwe voorbumperschort lijkt de BMW X3 bijna een nieuw model. De opvallender vormgegeven BMW-nieren, vooral in het bovenste gedeelte, zijn bovendien groter dan vroeger en omvatten een eendelig frame. Een zwarte balk waarin de iCam is geplaatst (indien aanwezig) zorgt voor een visuele scheiding van het radiatorrooster. De koplampen beschikken voortaan standaard over ‘full led’-technologie. Behalve de optionele adaptieve led-koplampen met Matrix-functie, waarbij de stand voor ongunstig weer de functie van de voorheen afzonderlijke mistlichten overneemt, is als optie ook BMW Laser Light met een bereik tot 650 meter verkrijgbaar.

Voorschort en achterschort hertekend.

In een driehoekig frame onder de koplampen sieren verticale luchtinlaten de voorbumper. In de nieuwe voorbumperschort dragen strakke en ruim bemeten oppervlakken in koetswerkkleur en een robuuste bodembescherming bij tot de présence en hoogwaardige uitstraling van de SAV. De BMW X3 xDrive30e met oplaadbare hybrideaandrijving draagt ook een ‘electrified by i’-logo op de voorvleugel, terwijl een bijkomende blauwe ring alle BMW-logo’s op deze motorversie siert, inclusief die op de wielnaafkappen. De achterkant van de nieuwe BMW X3 oogt helderder door verschillende ingrepen. Een zwarte rand geeft de ‘full led’-achterlichten een nauwkeurigere look, terwijl de smallere lichtgrafiek voortaan driedimensionaal gemodelleerde contouren en horizontale richtingaanwijzers omvat die geïntegreerd zijn in filigraanstijl. De nadruk op horizontale lijnen, bijvoorbeeld in de concave zone onderaan de achterklep, draagt bij tot de zuivere indruk van de achterkant. De nieuw ontworpen en gedetailleerd gelakte bodembescherming geeft een krachtige afwerking op de weg. De nieuwe, vlak aansluitende, vrijgevormde uitlaateindpijpen zijn groter en sportiever en ogen krachtiger.

M-sportpakket met specifieke koetswerkdetails.

Het M-sportpakket geeft de BMW X3 een sportiever karakter. De specifieke voorbumperschort heeft gevoelig grotere luchtinlaten en inzetstukken in hoogglanzend zwart en meer uitgesproken luchtgordijnen. Net als het frame en de randen van de BMW-nieren zijn de raamlijsten en dakrails als optie verkrijgbaar in hoogglanzend zwart. De sportievere achterbumper omvat een meer opvallende diffuser in Dark Shadow, alsook twee bijkomende zijdelingse luchtgordijnpanelen in hoogglanzend zwart. Standaard omvat het pakket de nieuwe 19” lichtmetalen velgen Y-Spoke 887M in Midnight Grey Bicolor met bandenmaat 245/50 R19. Als optie zijn bijkomende velgen van 20” en 21” verkrijgbaar, evenals de M-sportremmen met blauwe of rode remzadels.

Andere M-insignes in de M Performance-modellen.

De BMW X3 M40i en de BMW X3 M40d zetten hun verwantschap met de BMW M GmbH-portefeuille visueel in de verf met specifieke BMW M-nieren. Behalve de chroomrand omvatten ze ook de typische dubbele M-radiatorroosterspijlen in hoogglanzend zwart, getooid met een M-logo. Terwijl de voor- en achterkant zijn afgewerkt met de schorten van het M-sportpakket, zorgen de aerodynamisch geoptimaliseerde M-buitenspiegels in hoogglanzend zwart, de vrijgevormde uitlaatsierstukken in zwart chroom en het opvallende ‘Two Teeth’-design voor een opvallende look. De BMW X3 M40i en BMW X3 M40d zijn standaard geschoeid met 20” lichtmetalen BMW M-velgen met dubbele spaken (type 699M) in Orbit Grey met gecombineerde banden in maat 245/45 R20 vooraan en 275/40 R20 achteraan. Als optie zijn deze velgen verkrijgbaar in Jet Black, terwijl andere exclusieve opties de 21” lichtmetalen BMW M-velgen met dubbele spaken (type 718M) in Jet Black Burnished omvatten.

BMW maakt de nieren van de BMW X4 tot een opvallend kenmerk.

De BMW X4 neemt de nieuwe voorkant van de BMW X3 over, maar voegt er een exclusief kenmerk aan toe in de vorm van de nieren met honingraatmotief, die bekend zijn van andere sportieve BMW modellen. In vergelijking met de BMW X3 zijn de adaptieve led-koplampen met Matrix-functie al standaard, terwijl BMW Laser Light, dat bijzonder licht is en een groot bereik heeft, ook voor de BMW X4 als optie verkrijgbaar is. Met de vlakke ‘full led’-achterlichten, die de breedte van de wagen benadrukken en met hun driedimensionale design op opvallende wijze buiten het koetswerk uitsteken, heeft de achterkant van de gefacelifte BMW X4 een nog helderdere vormgeving. De nieuwe achterschort oogt zuiverder, met een groter aandeel gelakte oppervlakken en reflectoren die nu verticaal en lager in de bumper worden geplaatst. De brede eindpijpen met vrije vormgeving weerspiegelen de horizontale lijnen van het bovenste deel.

M-sportpakket met opvallende achterschort in de BMW X4.

Vanaf het M-sportpakket omvat de BMW X4 de BMW-nieren met honingraatmotief, waarvan het frame en de inzetstukken op verzoek in hoogglanzend zwart zijn gelakt, evenals een nieuwe achterschort met een breed uitschuifbaar inzetstuk in de vorm van een aambeeld. Net als de zijdelingse luchtgordijnpanelen is deze afwerking uitgevoerd in hoogglanzend zwart en geeft ze een krachtige algemene indruk die duidelijk op de weg gericht is. En net als bij de BMW X3 omvat het M-sportpakket standaard de nieuwe 19” lichtmetalen velgen Y-Spoke 887M in Midnight Grey Bicolor met bandenmaat 245/50 R19. Als optie zijn bijkomende 20”- en 21”-velgen en M-sportremmen verkrijgbaar.

BMW M-insignes voor de BMW X4 M40i en BMW X4 M40d.

De BMW X4 M40i (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 9,5 – 8,7 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 215 – 198 g/km) en de BMW X4 M40d (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 7,3 – 6,6 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 190 – 171 g/km) zijn qua uiterlijk en standaarduitrusting gebaseerd op de overeenkomstige X3-modellen. Net als die laatste beschikken ze over typische BMW M-voorzieningen, zoals de specifieke BMW M-nieren met chroomframe, de dubbele nierspijlen in hoogglanzend zwart, het M-logo en de aerodynamisch geoptimaliseerde M-buitenspiegels in hoogglanzend zwart. De achterschort met aambeeldvormig inzetstuk wordt aangevuld met een luchtgordijn in hoogglanzend zwart. Naar analogie met de BMW X3 M40i en BMW X3 M40d beschikken deze X4-modellen over dezelfde vrij gevormde uitlaatsierstukken in zwart chroom met de twee ‘tanden’ en dezelfde banden.

Elf lakkleuren voor de BMW X3 en een exclusieve tint voor de BMW X4.

Na de hertekening van de BMW X3 biedt BMW in totaal elf lakkleuren in het reguliere gamma. De metaalkleur Skyscraper Grey (vanaf 12/21) is nieuw, net als de metaalkleur M Brooklyn Grey vanaf het M-sportpakket, en de twee BMW Individual lakkleuren Aventurine Red en Tanzanite Blue. De nieuwe metaalkleur Piedmont Red is exclusief verkrijgbaar voor de BMW X4. Voor het eerst bieden beide modellen ook keuze uit talloze speciale BMW Individual-kleuren, waaronder matte afwerkingen zoals Frozen Deep Grey. Het gamma speciale afwerkingen zal in de toekomst verder worden uitgebreid.

De nieuwe BMW X3 en de nieuwe BMW X4 nemen de middenconsole van de huidige BMW 4 Reeks over. Het vrijstaande centrale Control Display met aanraakfunctie biedt voortaan standaard in alle voertuigen een schermdiagonaal van 10,25”. Een 12,3”-versie van het aanraakscherm is als optie verkrijgbaar. De gevoelig opgewaardeerde standaarduitrusting omvat nu ook sportzetels, bekleed met een nieuwe Sensatec-generatie in de nieuwe Ray-nerf en uitgerust met geperforeerde middendelen, evenals een automatische airconditioning met driezoneregeling.

Om het configuratieproces duidelijker en eenvoudiger te maken voor klanten door in de eerste plaats het aantal conflicten te verminderen, werd de complexiteit van de uitrustingslijnen en opties bewust met 30 procent gereduceerd. Behalve de bekerhouder en een modelspecifiek logo omvat de middenconsole het nieuw ontworpen bedieningseiland met keuzehendel, de knoppen van het start-stopsysteem, de elektrische parkeerrem, de afdaalhulp voor hellingen en diverse rijbelevingsfuncties, en de BMW Controller.

Ook de startknop is hier geplaatst. Nieuwe gegalvaniseerde sierelementen op de ventilatieroosters geven de wagen een elegante toets en benadrukken tegelijk de horizontale lijnen in het interieur. Bijkomende functies zijn de optionele sfeerverlichting met contourverlichting boven de sierlijst in het dashboard en sfeerverlichting die gedempt naar beneden schijnt onder de accentbekleding om een bijzonder hoogwaardige en rustgevende sfeer in het interieur te creëren.

Hybridetechnologie voor alle motoren.

De nieuwe BMW X3 en de nieuwe BMW X4 demonstreren een toenemende elektrificatie met moderne hybridetechnologie voor alle zeven aandrijfsystemen die in Duitsland beschikbaar zijn. Behalve de BMW X3 xDrive30e met oplaadbare hybrideaandrijving, die sinds december 2019 in productie is, maken alle vier- en zescilindermotoren in de twee modellenreeksen nu gebruik van ‘mild hybrid’-technologie met 48V-batterij.

Nadat de drie beschikbare dieselmotoren in 2020 werden uitgerust met een ‘mild-hybrid’-systeem, zijn nu ook de drie benzinemotoren uitgerust met deze technologie, met onder meer een 48V-startgenerator, die nog betere rijprestaties garandeert met een lager brandstofverbruik en een verhoogd rijcomfort. De energie verkregen door remrecuperatie en opgeslagen in de 48V-batterij voorziet niet alleen het 12V-boordnet van stroom maar kan ook worden gebruikt voor een elektrische boost van 8 kW/11 pk.

Keuze uit drie diesels en drie benzinemotoren.

In Duitsland zijn de nieuwe BMW X3 en de nieuwe BMW X4 leverbaar met zeven krachtbronnen met vermogens van 135 kW/184 pk tot 265 kW/360 pk. Daartoe behoren drie dieselmotoren: 140 kW/190 pk in de BMW X3 xDrive20d (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 6,5 – 5,8 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 171 – 151 g/km) en de BMW X4 xDrive20d (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 6,5 – 5,7 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot: 170 – 149 g/km), 210 kW/286 pk in de BMW X3 xDrive30d (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 7,0 – 6,2 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 183 – 162 g/km) en de BMW X4 xDrive30d (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 7,0 – 6,1 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 182 – 161 g/km) en 250 kW/340 pk in de BMW X3 M40d en BMW X4 M40d.

De modellen met benzinemotor zijn de BMW X3 xDrive20i (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 8,4 – 7,6 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 192 – 172 g/km) en de BMW X4 xDrive20i (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 8,4 – 7,5 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 190 – 170 g/km) met 135 kW/184 pk, de BMW X3 xDrive30i (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 8,5 – 7,6 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 194 – 173 g/km) en de BMW X4 xDrive30i (brandstofverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 8,5 – 7,5 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 192 – 171 g/km) met 180 kW/245 pk en de BMW X3 M40i en BMW X4 M40i met 265 kW/360 pk.

Oplaadbare hybride met een elektrisch rijbereik tot 50 kilometer.

Het oplaadbare hybridemodel BMW X3 xDrive30e is voorbehouden aan het Sports Activity Vehicle. Het systeem bestaat uit een viercilinder-benzinemotor in combinatie met een elektromotor waarvan het vermogen naar de wielen wordt overgebracht. Hun gezamenlijke systeemvermogen van 215 kW/292 pk kan worden verhoogd met 30 kW/41 pk door tijdelijk gebruik te maken van het piekvermogen van de elektromotor. Die laatste wordt gevoed door een lithium-ionhoogspanningsbatterij die een rijbereik tot 50 kilometer mogelijk maakt.

Standaard Steptronic-achtversnellingsbak en BMW xDrive.

Alle motorversies worden gecombineerd met Steptronic-achtversnellingsbakken die specifiek zijn afgestemd op de respectieve motorkenmerken. De BMW X3 M40i, BMW X3 M40d en alle BMW X4-modellen bieden de anders optionele Steptronic-sporttransmissie met acht verhoudingen, inclusief standaard schakelpaddles en Launch Control. BMW’s xDrive-vierwielaandrijving draagt in ruime mate bij tot het veelzijdige, sportieve karakter van de BMW X3 en BMW X4. Zijn nauwkeurige elektronische sturing garandeert de bijzonder sportieve vermogensverdeling die typisch is voor het merk. Zijn achterwieloriëntatie maakt vooral dynamisch bochtenwerk tot een bijzonder intense ervaring. Bovendien optimaliseert BMW xDrive zowel de rijstabiliteit als de tractie op ruw terrein.

Driving Assistant Professional voor het eerst beschikbaar.

BMW heeft de facelift van de BMW X3 en BMW X4 ook te baat genomen om het gamma moderne rijhulpsystemen te reorganiseren en opnieuw aanzienlijk uit te breiden om zowel het comfort als de veiligheid te verhogen. De Driving Assistant Professional*, die voor het eerst als optie verkrijgbaar is in deze modellenreeks, biedt de bestuurder een comfortabele verlichting en meer veiligheid in rijsituaties waar hij bewust hulp wil. Als aanvulling op de eveneens optionele Driving Assistant, omvat dit systeem Active Cruise Control met verbeterde functies voor de stad, een kruispuntwaarschuwing met bijkomende remfunctie in de stad, een pechassistent en een verbeterde stuur- en rijstrookassistent. De 3D-weergave van de omgeving in het combi-instrument, Assistant View genoemd, geeft aan welke assistentiesystemen van Driving Assistant Professional geactiveerd zijn en welke functies ze aanbieden. De Parking Assistant Plus omvat voortaan ook de Reversing Assistant, die een afgelegde lijn opnieuw kan afleggen in achteruit. Nieuw in de BMW X3 en BMW X4 is ook de optionele BMW Drive Recorder, die video's rond de wagen neemt.

BMW Live Cockpit Plus met standaard 10,25”-display.

Met de standaard BMW Live Cockpit Plus en intelligente netwerking inclusief innovatieve digitale diensten op basis van het BMW Operating System 7 bieden de BMW X3 en BMW X4 nu een bijzonder nauwe interactie tussen bestuurder en wagen. BMW Live Cockpit Plus omvat het iDrive-besturingssysteem met een Control Display van minstens 10,25” groot, een Touch Controller en een instrumentenbord in Black Panel-look met een 5,1”-kleurenscherm in het midden. De BMW Live Cockpit Plus kan als optie worden aangevuld met het Head-Up Display. De BMW Live Cockpit Professional, die als optie verkrijgbaar is, biedt een volledig digitaal displaynetwerk: het instrumentenbord met hoge resolutie achter het stuur en het Control Display hebben elk een schermdiagonaal van 12,3”.

Nieuwe generatie navigatie met BMW Maps.

Een van de belangrijkste innovaties op het gebied van digitale diensten is BMW Maps. Het cloudondersteunde systeem maakt een aanzienlijke verbetering van de prestaties, een hoge mate van nauwkeurigheid en vereenvoudigde bestemmingsinvoer mogelijk. Het navigatiesysteem van de nieuwe generatie biedt een uiterst snelle en dynamische routeberekening op basis van nauwkeurige realtime-verkeersgegevens die met korte intervallen worden aangeleverd. Bovendien biedt BMW Maps met Connected Parking bestuurders een nog meer gedetailleerde ondersteuning bij het zoeken naar een vrije parkeerplaats in de buurt van hun bestemming.

Smartphoneconnectiviteit en integratie van diensten van derden.

BMW Live Cockpit Plus en BMW Live Cockpit Professional bieden een geoptimaliseerde draadloze smartphone-integratie via Apple CarPlay. Hier kan de bestuurder alle belangrijke informatie van de apps bekijken op het Control Display en – in intelligent verwerkte vorm – ook in het instrumentenbord en het optionele BMW Head-Up Display.

Met Android Auto™ heeft BMW Group nog een relevante personaliseerbare dienst toegevoegd aan zijn naadloze connectiviteitsuitrusting in de wagen, die een eenvoudig en veilig gebruik van smartphonefuncties zoals muziek, media en apps voor berichten tijdens het rijden mogelijk maakt. Hoogtepunten van de interactie tussen Android Auto en BMW zijn onder meer de handige en draadloze netwerking en de intelligente integratie van de navigatie-instructies van Google Maps™ in het Head-Up Display.

De verregaande integratie van Amazon Alexa maakt het mogelijk om de spraakservice van Amazon in de auto te gebruiken zoals de klant dat thuis al gewend is. Met behulp van de My BMW-app, die in meer dan veertig landen beschikbaar is voor zowel iOS- als Android-besturingssystemen, kan Amazon Alexa in slechts enkele stappen in de wagen worden geïnstalleerd. Daarnaast vormt de My BMW-app een universele interface met de wagen. Ze geeft op elk moment informatie over de staat van het voertuig en maakt, naargelang de aanwezige opties, functies voor toegang op afstand mogelijk, zoals de locatie van het voertuig, het vergrendelen en ontgrendelen van de deuren of het registreren van de omgeving van het voertuig (Remote 3D View).

Verbeterde functionaliteit voor de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

De BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant krijgt ook in de BMW X3 en BMW X4 voortdurend extra mogelijkheden bij en creëert zo een nog intensievere band tussen bestuurder en wagen. Met de digitale begeleider kunnen natuurlijke gesproken instructies worden gebruikt om bijvoorbeeld de airconditioning te regelen, de ruiten te openen en te sluiten of de schakelmodi te wijzigen. Het kan ook toegang krijgen tot de nieuwe News-app, die het laatste nieuws voorleest aan passagiers, en leert routines die het comfort en rijplezier in bepaalde situaties verhogen.

Software-upgrades ‘over-the-air’.

Sinds 2018 en de introductie van BMW Operating System 7 kunnen bestuurders van BMW-modellen hun wagen voortdurend bijwerken met de nieuwste softwarestatus, dankzij Remote Software Upgrade. Ook in de BMW X3 en BMW X4 kunnen de upgrades verschillende types van inhoud bevatten, van nieuwe services tot verbeterde voertuigfuncties, en kunnen ze ‘over-the-air’ worden geladen. Bovendien biedt de intelligente netwerking de mogelijkheid om later bijkomende functies in de wagen te integreren. Opties die digitaal kunnen worden aangepast, zijn onder meer de grootlichtassistent en de BMW Drive Recorder.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

New body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. From the spring of 2020, BMW will contribute towards a further reduction of consumption levels and the optimisation of the emission performance of current models through the use of systematically evolved drive technology. In parallel with the expansion of the range of models featuring all-electric and plug-in hybrid drive scheduled to follow during the course of the year, both the efficiency and the exhaust emission quality of petrol-driven vehicles will be significantly increased.  This is ensured, inter alia, by innovative mild hybrid technology which, following the BMW 5 Series, will as from March/April also be deployed in the BMW 3 Series as well as the model series BMW X3 and BMW X4. At the same time, in the spring of 2020, 33 further BMW models will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not become obligatory until 2021. 

A further drive variant for the BMW 1 Series as well as additional engines for the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring will enhance the diversity of available options in the premium compact and premium midrange segment. Additional options for interior design provide for greater individuality in the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

Electric pulling power for efficiency and dynamics: Mild hybrid technology with 48-volt starter generator for further models.  

BMW is extending the use of mild hybrid technology to further models. This innovation, first introduced in the autumn of 2019 forthe four model variants of the BMW 520d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 128 – 108 g/km), comprises an extremely powerful 48-volt starter generator as well as an additional battery, and enhances both efficiency and dynamics of vehicles equipped with this technology. As from the spring of 2020, mild hybrid technology will also be featured as standard in the models BMW 320d Sedan (automatic transmission) (combined fuel consumption: 4.1 – 4.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 107 – 105 g/km), the BMW 320d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.3 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 109 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.4 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 117 – 114 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 119 – 117 g/km), the BMW X3 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 134 – 126 g/km) and the BMW X4 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 133 – 125 g/km).

Mild hybrid technology provides significantly greater possibilities to make use of brake energy recuperation. The energy recuperated when accelerating and braking is not only used to provide electrically powered vehicle functions with energy but also to generate additional drive power. The 48-volt starter generator delivers an additional power output of up to 8 kW/11 hp. The electric over-boost is made available very spontaneously, thus enhancing dynamics when starting off and accelerating from a standstill.  During the journey, the electric over-boost can be used to support the combustion engine, enabling it to run as frequently as possible within an efficiency-optimised load range and to reduce consumption peaks. Moreover, when driving within inefficient operational ranges, it is possible to supply the 48-volt battery with additional energy from the starter generator by raising the load point when required.  

Furthermore, the 48-volt starter generator provides for exceptionally smooth switching off as well as a faster and thus more comfortable re-starting of the combustion engine when the Auto Start Stop function is used at road junctions or in traffic jams. When the vehicle decelerates, the combustion engine can be disconnected at a speed of less than 15 km/h. The kinetic energy gained when decelerating further to a standstill is then used for recuperation. The efficiencyenhancing effect of the “coasting” function has also been optimised. At a speed of up to 160 km/h, the combustion engine is no longer switched into idle mode but is completely disconnected. During the journey, engine re-start is also fast and comfortable. The optimised “coasting” function is available both in the COMFORT and ECOPRO modes of the Driving Experience Switch.

Optimised emission performance: 40 BMW models now already fulfil the future Euro 6d emission standard.

With yet a further optimisation of the emission performance of numerous models, BMW is preparing well in advance for future legal requirements governing exhaust emissions. As from the spring of 2020, 33 further models from various model series will fulfil the Euro 6d exhaust emission standard. Consequently, 40 BMW models comply with the demands specified by the more stringent standard a year prior to the new emission regulation coming into force. 

The vehicles that will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard as from the spring of 2020 include model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 3 Series as well as the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and the BMW X6.

New drive variants for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring. Starting in March 2020, additional drive variants will increase the diversity of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series model range. The BMW 120d (combined fuel consumption: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 121 – 112 g/km) will be added to the model range in the premium compact segment. The power generated by the car’s 2-litre, 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel power unit featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing the new BMW 120d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 231 km/h. The new BMW 120d is one of the models that already fulfil the Euro 6d emission standard. 

The engines of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be expanded with a 216d diesel engine.

A new four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 2 litres and BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology complements the drive portfolio for the new BMW 3 Series. Next to to that an 316d diesel engine will be added for the BMW 3 Series Sedan. The power unit for the new BMW 318i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.7 – 5.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 130 – 120 g/km) and the new BMW 318i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 140 – 130 g/km) delivers a maximum power output of 115 kW/156 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The standard equipment range for the new BMW 3 Series entry model includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ is 8.4 seconds for the Sedan and 8.7 seconds for the Touring model. Top speed is 223 km/h (BMW 318i Sedan) and 220 km/h (BMW 318i Touring) respectively.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with extended standard configuration, additional offer of leather options and interior trims for the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

From March 2020, a broader range of standard features will enhance comfort in the luxury-class models of the BMW 7 Series and the BMW 8 Series. In future, BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars as well as the high-performance models BMW M8 Competition Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 242 g/km), BMW M8 Competition Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 246 g/km) and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 244 g/km) will be equipped with an automatic soft-close function for the doors.

Thanks to a wider selection of leather options and interior trims, there are now new possibilities to individualise the models BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. As from April, the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour combination Canberra Beige/Black is additionally available for these three models. In future, the BMW X6 can be ordered with the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Cognac/Black. Likewise available for the Sports Activity Coupe are the extended BMW Individual leather options Merino in the colour combinations Tartufo/Black, Ivory White/Black and Ivory White/Night Blue/Black as well as the BMW Individual all-leather interior trim Merino in the colour combinations Coffee/Black and Tartufo/Black. Also new in the range of options for the BMW X6: High-grade Poplar Grain, Anthracite-Brown, open-pored.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. The figures are calculated using a vehicle fitted with basic equipment in Germany, the ranges stated take into account differences in selected wheel and tyre sizes as well as the optional equipment. They may change during configuration.

The figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle and adapted to NEDC for comparison purposes. In these vehicles, different figures than those published here may apply for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions.

Munich. The unique combination of intelligent all-wheel drive BMW xDrive and cutting-edge BMW eDrive technology makes for sustainable driving pleasure in another BMW model. The new BMW X3 xDrive30e is already the third Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the brand's current model range to feature a plug-in hybrid drive and power transmission to all four wheels, offering exciting versatility and a purely electric driving experience as well as outstandingly low fuel consumption and emissions. Together, the 4-cylinder combustion engine and the electric motor of the plug-in hybrid model generate a maximum system output of 215 kW/292 hp. The unique combination of the intelligent 4-wheel drive system BMW xDrive and state-of-the-art BMW eDrive technology reduces average fuel consumption to levels between 2.4 and 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres*. The relevant CO₂ emissions amount to 54 to 49 grams per kilometre*. The combined power consumption of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is between 17.2 and 16.4 kWh per 100 kilometres*. Its lithium-ion high-voltage battery equipped with the very latest battery cell technology enables purely electric mobility with a range of 51 to 55 kilometres*.

The new BMW X3 xDrive30e will be produced from December 2019 onwards at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, USA – alongside the conventionally powered model variants of the BMW X3. The worldwide market launch is due to start in spring 2020. In this way, the BMW Group is consistently pursuing not only the electrification of its drive portfolio but also a product strategy geared towards the diverse needs of its customers. The globally popular SAV model in the premium mid-range segment is the first model of the brand to be offered with both a conventional combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid system – with a purely electrically powered model variant due to be added during the course 2020.

Sports Activity Vehicle with agile handling, superior off-road performance and outstanding efficiency.

The new BMW X3 xDrive30e combines the typical qualities of a Sports Activity Vehicle with particularly efficient drive technology. The plug-in hybrid model is likewise characterised by agile handling and sporty driving characteristics, robust versatility, a versatile interior, premium quality and advanced connectivity. Its BMW xDrive system permanently distributes the drive torque between the front and rear wheels as required – even when driving purely on electric power – so as to ensure sporty driving characteristics on the road and superior off-road performance over unsurfaced terrain. The drive power is generated by a 2.0-litre, 135 kW/184 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission with an output of 80 kW/109 hp. Together the two drive units mobilise a system output of 215 kW/292 hp. The maximum system torque of the plug-in hybrid drive is 420 Nm. This allows the new BMW X3 xDrive30e to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Its top speed is 210 km/h.

Depending on the operating mode and the situation on the road, the electric motor of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e can be used either for purely electric mobility or to support the combustion engine. In MAX eDrive mode, which can be activated via the eDrive button on the centre console, the new BMW X3 xDrive30e achieves a top speed of 135 km/h with a locally emissions-free and virtually silent drive unit. In the standard Auto eDrive setting, purely electric driving is possible at speeds of up to 110 km/h. The combustion engine only switches on at higher speeds or when there are particularly high load requirements. When both drive units are active, the efficiency of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is optimised, as is its sprint capacity. When accelerating, the spontaneous power development of the electric motor is clearly noticeable, while at constant speeds its electric assist reduces fuel consumption and emissions. The support of the electric motor ensures that the combustion engine can run within an efficiency-optimised load range as often as possible. The likewise available BATTERY CONTROL setting serves to keep the charge state of the high-voltage battery at a level determined by the driver. In this way, the power supply can be specifically reserved and used for local emissions-free driving on urban stretches of road during a lengthier trip.

High-voltage battery based on the very latest battery cell technology for maximum efficiency; large, variable luggage compartment.

The lithium-ion battery of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is located in a space-saving position underneath the rear seat, while the fuel tank is positioned above the rear axle. This means that the transport capacity of the plug-in hybrid model is only slightly restricted. At 450 litres, the luggage compartment volume of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is on a par with those models which have a conventional engine. By folding down the rear seat with 40 : 20: 40 split, the storage space can be extended to up to 1 500 litres. Thanks to cutting-edge battery cell technology and a gross energy content of 12.0 kWh, the high-voltage battery contributes both to the outstanding efficiency and the excellent electrical range of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e. As a result, the plug-in hybrid model can be used for a great deal of day-to-day travel without locally produced emissions – even beyond the city.

The high-voltage battery can be charged at conventional household sockets using the standard-equipment charging cable. In this way, the battery can be fully charged in less than six hours. At a BMW i Wallbox, the same charging process can be completed in around three and a half hours. The charging socket is located under a separate flap on the front left side wall of the car. The electrical energy stored in the high-voltage battery is also used to supply the 12-volt vehicle electrical system.

Electric licence plate and tax benefit thanks to the considerable electrical range.

Thanks to its high electrical range the new BMW X3 xDrive30e fulfils the criteria laid down in the German Electric Mobility Act – depending on fittings – for classification as an e-vehicle, complete with special rights on public roads. It is also subject to reduced company car taxation in Germany. Only half the gross list price is used as a basis when calculating the monetary benefit from private use of the company car.

As an alternative to the basic version, the new BMW X3 xDrive 30e also comes in the model variants Advantage, xLine, Luxury and M Sport. Its standard equipment includes acoustic pedestrian protection. When driving electrically at low speeds, an unmistakeable sound designed specifically for electrified BMW models is generated to alert other road users to the approaching car without impairing the acoustic comfort of the vehicle occupants. In addition, the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is equipped with an auxiliary air conditioning system as standard. It can also be controlled remotely from a smartphone using the BMW Connected App: the driver can therefore get into a warm vehicle in winter and a pleasantly cool vehicle in summer. New digital services help make it more attractive and convenient to charge the high-voltage battery when out and about. The digital services support the driver in searching for and selecting public charging stations, enable the charging process to be controlled via remote functions and transmit information relating to charge status, electrical and combined range and individual energy consumption to the driver’s smartphone or other personal devices.

In addition, almost the entire range of optional equipment available for the conventionally powered versions of the BMW X3 is also available for the plug-in hybrid model – thereby increasing driving pleasure, comfort and individual style. This range includes an Adaptive Suspension, a Variable Sports Steering and a M Sport Brake System, the BMW Head-Up Display, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Driving Assistant Plus with steering and lane guidance assistant and also Parking Assistant Plus. Another feature included in this range of extras is a tow hitch that can be electrically swivelled out and in. The maximum towing capacity of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is 2,000 kilograms.

Munich. BMW will also be injecting many of the models not affected by its ongoing model offensive with added variety and appeal during the summer of 2019. Following the successful launch of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, its choice of power units has now been expanded. New engines are also fitted in the BMW 8 Series Coupe, BMW 8 Series Convertible and BMW 5 Series Sedan. Elsewhere, the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will also be available with a six-speed manual gearbox from July 2019.

The portfolio of plug-in hybrid models is also set to grow in summer 2019, thanks to additions such as the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 49 – 46 g/km) with intelligent all-wheel drive. All plug-in hybrid models will now come with new battery cell technology to boost their electric range and will also feature acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. The BMW X2 will come with LED headlights and LED foglamps as standard from July 2019. Last but not least, new optional extras, exterior paint finishes, leather variants and interior trim strips will open up further scope for customisation in many model ranges.

BMW 3 Series Sedan: additional power units, new body colours and options.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan will serve up its distinctive brand of driving pleasure in a number of new formats from July 2019, when an ultra-sporty representative with a straight-six petrol engine and BMW xDrive, another three all-wheel-drive variants and a plug-in hybrid model are added to the line-up. As a result, customers will now have a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid drive system. Five of the power units will combine with all-wheel drive, either as standard or optionally.

Spearheading the model range is the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 l/100 km [37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 172 g/km), which is powered by a new 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. An eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive, an M Sport differential and bespoke chassis technology combine to keep the engine’s exceptional power planted firmly on the road and deliver a supremely assured and exhilarating drive. The likewise standard sports exhaust system produces a soundtrack to match. The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.

From July 2019, intelligent all-wheel drive will be available in combination with another three engines. The trio of models benefiting from the superior traction, directional stability and agility this brings will be the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.9 l/100 km [44.84 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 143 – 134 g/km), BMW 330i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.2 l/100 km [43.5 – 45.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 147 – 141 g/km) and BMW 330d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.4 – 5.1 l/100 km [52.3 – 55.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 140 – 134 g/km).

The new BMW 330e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 43 – 37 g/km) delivers a particularly appealing blend of driving pleasure and efficiency. The plug-in hybrid model’s four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive unit join forces to generate system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp when the newly developed XtraBoost mode is engaged. This enables the BMW 330e Sedan to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 6.0 seconds. At the same time, it is capable of a maximum electric range from 59 to 66 kilometres (37 – 41 miles) courtesy of state-of-the-art battery technology.

M Sport suspension will also be available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan (with the exception of the M Sport model) from July 2019, as will Adaptive M suspension. Both the optional suspension systems combine with Variable Sport Steering.

The new BMW Individual paint finishes Citrine Black metallic, Oxide Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Grey metallic and Brilliant White metallic create extra scope for customisation. Customers will also have the option of a BMW Individual leather steering wheel and three different BMW Individual interior trim strip designs from July 2019. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual Merino full leather trim – which wraps the upper section of the instrument panel and the door shoulders in black fulled leather, too – will also be added to the options list. The two leather trim variants are each available in a choice of five colours. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino also features as part of the first BMW Individual Composition for the sports sedan. Other items in the Composition include 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual paint finish, sports seats, the BMW Individual leather steering wheel and an anthracite BMW Individual headliner. The M Sport Individual model is another new option combining the M Sport model’s equipment features with ultra-stylish details, such as 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual exterior paint finish, BMW Individual interior trim strips, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and the BMW Individual leather steering wheel.

BMW 5 Series: new V8 engine, plug-in hybrid model now also with all-wheel drive, attractive optional extras and packages.

A generation change for the V8 engine and another plug-in hybrid model make the range of drive systems available for the BMW 5 Series even more appealing. From July 2019 the BMW M550i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.0 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.25 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 227 – 225 g/km) will be fitted with the latest update of the eight-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. The new V8 has an optimised crankcase and larger turbochargers positioned in the “V” between the cylinder banks, and develops maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp plus peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The eight-cylinder teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive and model-specific chassis technology to generate standout dynamics.

From July 2019 the latest-generation high-voltage battery will give the BMW 530e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.8 – 1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 41 – 36 g/km) a longer all-electric operating range. The plug-in hybrid model will now also be available with intelligent all-wheel drive. The link-up of four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive system endow the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan with system output of 185 kW/252 hp.

A new BMW Individual Composition will be available for all BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring model variants from July 2019. The precisely coordinated design and equipment features for the exterior and interior include a BMW Individual paint finish and 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium satinated, comfort seats with active seat ventilation, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino, a BMW Individual leather steering wheel, an Anthracite-coloured BMW Individual headliner, ambient lighting, a BMW Individual instrument panel in black leather and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW 8 Series: new six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, optional M Sport seats, additional paint finishes and leather trim variants.

Another engine option and four new model variants inject extra variety into the line-up of power units for the new BMW 8 Series luxury sports car. From July 2019 the BMW 8 Series Coupe and BMW 8 Series Convertible will also be offered with a new six-cylinder in-line-petrol engine developing 250 kW/340 hp. It teams up with rear-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.3 – 7.2 l/100 km [38.7 –39.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 167 – 164 g/km) and new BMW 840i Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 – 7.4 l/100 km [37.7 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 170 – 168 g/km), and with intelligent all-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i xDrive Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.7 – 7.5 l/100 km [36.7 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 174 – 172 g/km) and new BMW 840i xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.8 – 7.7 l/100 km [36.2 - 36.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 178 – 175 g/km).

The engine line-up for the BMW 8 Series also includes a V8 option and a six-cylinder in-line diesel unit. All model variants stand out with their captivating performance attributes, which can be enjoyed in even greater richness and depth in the M Sport seats now added to the options list. As well as attention-grabbing bucket-seat contours and safety belts with accent strips in BMW M GmbH colours, the M Sport seats also feature 3D quilting, perforated central sections and bespoke stitching. Added to which, BMW 8 Series customers will also be able to specify BMW Individual full-leather appointments in eight colour variants from July 2019, plus BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips in Black Ash Silver Effect high-gloss and Carbon Fibre.

Ultra-classy exterior paint finishes have been added to the spectrum of options available. For example, customers can now also order their BMW 8 Series Coupe or BMW 8 Series Convertible in the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. The BMW 8 Series Convertible can also be ordered with the BMW Individual finishes Frozen Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Dark Brown metallic, Frozen Arctic Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Silver, Frozen Cashmere Silver, Pure Metal Silver, Brilliant White metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic, Aventurine Red metallic and Almandine Brown metallic.

BMW X2: LED headlights now standard, additional light-alloy wheels, optional M Sport braking system.

The BMW X2 will come as standard from July 2019 with LED headlights with extended features. Their adaptive light distribution ensures optimum road illumination in urban areas, when turning off a road and through corners. LED front foglamps will also be part of standard specification for the compact Sports Activity Coupe. Options will include five new light-alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch formats and two new upholstery variants.

The M Sport braking system fitted as standard on the BMW X2 M35i (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.9 l/100 km [39.8 – 40.9 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 161 – 158 g/km) will now be available as an option for all other variants of the BMW X2. The Navigation option will now include an 8.8 inch Control Display with touchscreen functionality in place of the previous 6.5-inch version. And if the Navigation Plus option is specified, the display will have a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches.

BMW X3 and BMW X4: M Sport seats, new M Sport Individual equipment line.

New optional extras will be added to the range for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in summer 2019 to give the duo yet more appeal. The Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe will be available with the option of M Sport seats with distinct bucket-seat styling and special design features for the M Sport model, BMW X3 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.1 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.0 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 207 – 206 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.4 l/100 km [43.5 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 172 – 169 g/km), BMW X4 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.0 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.4 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 206 – 205 g/km) and BMW X4 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km [42.8 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 173 – 170 g/km), as well as with additional interior trim strip variants.

The new M Sport Individual model available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 from August 2019 brings together a number of high-quality touches that add to their dynamic prowess, while also giving them an even more stylish and exclusive aura. The equipment features of the M Sport model are combined with highlights such as a BMW Individual paint finish, 21-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW X5 and BMW X7: new power units, plus more exterior paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and leather trim variants.

The choice of power units for the new BMW X5 will be expanded with the addition of a new entry-level engine in the form of a four-cylinder diesel available for the Sports Activity Vehicle from August 2019. The two-litre engine in the new BMW X5 xDrive25d (fuel consumption combined: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km [45.6 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 162 – 150 g/km) develops maximum output of 170 kW/231 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) with the help of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising multi-stage turbocharging and common-rail direct injection. The efficient diesel engine teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The engine’s emission control system includes an SCR catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions, helping the new BMW X5 xDrive25d to satisfy the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions norm.

The summer of 2019 will also see the launch of another exceptionally efficient version of the Sports Activity Vehicle in the form of the BMW X5 xDrive45e (petrol consumption combined: 2.0 – 1.7 l/100 km [141.2 – 166.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 23.5 – 20.3 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 39 g/km). This plug-in hybrid model is powered by a combination of a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and an electric motor, which together generate system output of 290 kW/394 hp. The second-generation BMW X5 with electrified powertrain accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system is on hand to deliver sporty driving pleasure on the road and supremely assured performance off it by distributing the drive power from both engine and motor to all four wheels. The latest battery cell technology on board the new X5 xDrive45e helps it to cover distances of up to 80 kilometres (50 miles) on electric power alone.

Customers will also enjoy an even wider choice of optional extras. The body colour Manhattan metallic, 22-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design, the BMW Individual Alcantara headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features will all be added to the BMW X5 options list from August 2019.

New options are being made available for the new BMW X7, too. From August 2019, it will be possible to upgrade the cabin of the luxury segment’s first ever Sports Activity Vehicle with BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in three different colours and a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White Alcantara. The palette of colours for the exterior will now expand to include the Manhattan metallic shade and BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and Ametrine metallic. And the BMW X7 can likewise now be specified with BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features.

BMW Z4: entry-level engine now also available with manual gearbox.

The 145 kW/197 hp four-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will be partnered by a six-speed manual gearbox as standard from July 2019. The entry-level version of the open-top sports car will also be optionally available with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

Plug-in hybrid models with new battery cell technology and acoustic protection for pedestrians.

From summer 2019, the new BMW 330e Sedan, new BMW 530e Sedan, new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan and new BMW X5 xDrive45e will be joined in the line-up of plug-in hybrid models boasting the very latest battery cell technology by the new BMW 225xe Active Tourer (petrol consumption combined: 2.1 – 1.9 l/100 km [134.5 – 148.7 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.2 – 13.5 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 42 g/km) and the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan models with electrified powertrains. The newly developed high-voltage batteries further increase efficiency at the same time as boosting the electric range.

From summer 2019, all plug-in hybrid models will be equipped with acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. When driving on electric power, an unmistakable sound specially created for electrified BMW models is generated using a system of speakers. The sound produced at low speeds has been designed to announce the car’s presence acoustically without affecting acoustic comfort for its occupants.

New optional extra: BMW Drive Recorder - for the Belgian market only.

The BMW Drive Recorder is another new addition to the options list. It can be ordered in conjunction with Parking Assistant Plus and is available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, new BMW X5 and new BMW X7. The BMW Drive Recorder uses the cameras of the various driver assistance systems to record video footage from different points around the vehicle, before saving the recordings so they can be either watched later on the Control Display when the car is stationary or exported via the USB port.

Drivers can therefore shoot videos while driving through spectacular scenery, for example, or performing impressive manoeuvres on the race track, and then send them to their mobile device and share them. Recordings can be up to 40 seconds in length, comprising the 20 seconds of video saved immediately prior to the Drive Recorder being activated and the next 20 seconds. The Drive Recorder can be started at any time from the iDrive menu. Another benefit of the system is that, in the event of a collision, the 20 seconds before the accident and the 20 seconds following it are automatically recorded and saved, so they can be referred back to in any subsequent reconstruction of the incident.

Thanks to the extensive range of M Performance Parts from the program of Original BMW Accessories, each of these product features can be adapted to the owner's personal taste and given greater emphasis.

Development of M Performance Parts always draws on the vast racing expertise of BMW M GmbH. All components are perfectly matched – both with each other and with the specific properties of each model. In addition to accentuating interior and exterior design, many of the M Performance Parts also meet functional criteria and enhance lightweight construction, for example.

Refined looks based on details inspired by motor racing.
M Performance lettering is one particularly effective way of creating a visual highlight. Designed to ensure an ideal match with the model in question, the side lettering in Frozen Black underscores the sporty character of the vehicle, in particular emphasising the dynamic proportions of the body. In addition to the side lettering, the appearance of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 can be further refined with the front lettering in high-gloss black – matching the other front attachment parts for these two models, which also feature a high-gloss finish. M Performance front radiator grilles in high-gloss black are available for the BMW X2. These have the same geometry as the standard grilles but are much more visually striking, thereby underscoring the vehicle's sporty flair and dynamic performance.

The M Performance exterior mirror caps in carbon fibre are another eye-catcher available for all three series. They are crafted elaborately by hand from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). With several coating layers and finished with a high-gloss polish, the carbon fibre caps have a depth effect which gives them a compelling appearance.

Sporty, elegant refinement on the inside.
The interior of the BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 can also be enhanced for additional sporty flair by means of select details, while at the same time increasing feel-good comfort on board. The M Performance floor mats are a potential contributing factor here. They are made of velour velvet with a leather-look surround and contrasting decorative seams. Their soft material makes them especially gentle on shoe heels. The front mats for driver and passenger bear the M Performance branding.

The M Performance steering wheel ensures the driver of a BMW X2, BMW X3 or BMW X4 retains a perfect grip on everything. It has distinct, specially lined grip areas which are covered with Alcantara. This microfibre fabric similar to suede is exceptionally pleasant to the touch in all temperatures and provides an optimum hold. The upper and lower part of the steering wheel are also covered in high-quality leather, as is the accompanying steering wheel trim panel. A red motorsports marking in the 12 o'clock position emphasises the car's dynamic qualities, as does the silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitch seam. Steering wheel trim panels are also optionally available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in carbon fibre/leather, with central clasp in either open-pore or high-gloss carbon fibre.

Shift paddles at the steering wheel enable the driver to change gear without taking their hands off the steering wheel, thereby facilitating vehicle control even when driving in dynamic style. For the BMW X3 and BMW X4 with this feature on board, the shift paddles are available in high-gloss carbon fibre. They are covered in an extremely fine carbon mesh, enhanced with a PUR finish and a high-gloss polish, and also feature plus and minus symbols in anodised red.

Extensive range of attractive summer complete wheel sets.
Much of a vehicle's design is perceptibly dominated by its wheel/tyre combination. This is why adaptations in this area have traditionally been among the most popular customisation measures in the automotive sector. This also accounts for the wide range available as part of the BMW M Performance Parts program. The 20-inch summer complete wheel set Styling 717 M is available for the BMW X2, for example. The matt black finish of this light alloy wheel, weight-optimised by means of flowforming technology (rolled rim well) adds a particularly striking touch of sporty flair. The 19-inch M Performance light alloy wheel Double Spoke 698 M in Orbit Grey is available as a summer complete wheel set for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. The exclusive finish and visible wheel bolts are key contributing factors to an impressive appearance here. The 21-inch forged wheel Y Spoke 701 M Bicolor is currently the largest wheel in the program of Original BMW Accessories for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. It also has a rolled rim well, and it weighs some two kilograms less than a similarly designed cast wheel in the same format: this is because of the special manufacturing process used. Light installations for a highly effective appearance.
One discreet customisation option that also adds a definite touch of exclusivity at the same time are the BMW LED door projectors. They replace the standard entry light and project a graphic onto the ground when the door is opened. Munich. The new BMW X2 is still far from being ready for its market debut. Nevertheless, the newest Sports Activity Coupé in the BMW X family is beginning to get out and about in its most congenial environment – the urban jungle.

As a matter of fact, it was noted during Fashion Week, which is being held in Milan from 20 to 25 September, wearing an outfit perfect for the occasion. The athletic silhouette of the new BMW X2 was attired in a spectacular camouflage effect, with tones of yellow, gray, and black that highlight its sporty and stylish qualities. The unusual underlying design is based on a digital model and expresses the innovative spirit and the orientation towards the future of the BMW Group.

Therefore it is not surprising that the new BMW X2 wearing Camouflage Digital is at the center of attention in the most characteristic and cool locations in Milan. Anyone who encountered it during its excursion into city life was able to recognize it immediately for its extravagant, contemporary, and sporty design. The outing offered a good opportunity to see first hand the new interpretation of BMW X design aimed at young people who are extroverted and active.

De BMW X3 legde de basis voor het mid-size Sports Activity Vehicle-segment bij de introductie in 2003. Sindsdien zijn er meer dan 1,5 miljoen exemplaren van het model gebouwd. Nu staat de derde generatie klaar om het stokje over te nemen met een nog opvallender, dynamischer design, krachtige en toch efficiënte aandrijflijnen en een luxueuze aankleding. Net als de andere leden van de X-familie koppelt hij een hoge mate van rijdynamiek op elke soort ondergrond aan gebruiksgemak voor de praktijk van alledag.

Dynamischer design en drie modelvarianten.

De derde generatie van de BMW X3 combineert net als zijn voorgangers stoere offroad-looks met een sportieve uitstraling. De vertrouwde proporties, met een bijzonder korte overhang voor en achter, benadrukken de perfecte 50:50 gewichtsverdeling over de voor- en achteras. Het dynamische karakter van de nieuwe BMW X3 wordt onderstreept door de grote nieren en de mistlampen, die voor het eerst bij een BMW X-model een hexagonaal design hebben. Aan de achterzijde zorgen de achterlichtunits (waarvan het driedimensionale uiterlijk door de optionele full-LED uitvoering nog meer in het oog springt), de elegant gevormde achterspoiler en de dubbele uitlaatpijpen voor een bijzonder geslaagde aanblik.

De uitrustingsvarianten xLine, M Sport en Luxury Line (de laatstgenoemde variant is nieuw) alsmede de BMW Individual productreeks maken het mogelijk om de binnen- en buitenzijde van de nieuwe BMW X3 nog nauwkeuriger af te stemmen op de persoonlijke voorkeuren.

Naast de standaard 18-inch lichtmetalen wielen (voorheen: 17-inch) zijn tegen meerprijs wielen van 21-inch mogelijk. De drie uitrustingsvarianten hebben niet alleen betrekking op het uiterlijk, maar ook op het interieur. Het interieur van de nieuwe BMW X3 is uitmuntend afgewerkt met bijzonder hoogwaardige materialen, de binnenzijde is nog chiquer en luxueuzer dan bij het vorige model. Het comfortniveau kan verder worden verhoogd met tal van nieuwe uitrustingsopties, zoals een drie-zone automatische airconditioning, het Ambient Air pakket, actieve stoelventilatie, de cargo-functie voor de standaard in de verhouding 40:20:40 neerklapbare achterbankleuning en het glazen panoramische dak dat voor extra licht in het interieur zorgt en de kwaliteitsindruk verder verbetert. Een andere nieuwe optie is de BMW Display Key, waarmee niet alleen de portieren van de BMW X3 op afstand vergrendeld en ontgrendeld kunnen worden. Ook informatie over de status van de auto, zoals brandstofniveau, is op afstand te checken en met de BMW Display Key is de standverwarming te activeren.

Geoptimaliseerde combinatie van rijdynamiek en rijcomfort.

De ingenieurs van BMW hebben verregaande wijzigingen aan het onderstel doorgevoerd om de rijdynamiek, de richtingsstabiliteit en het stuurgevoel van de nieuwe BMW X3 aanzienlijk te verbeteren. Het resultaat is een auto die nog sportiever rijdt dan zijn voorganger, zonder concessies te doen aan rijcomfort. Tot de onderstelopties behoren M Sport wielophanging, Dynamic Damper Control, M Sport-remmen en variabele sportbesturing.

Nog efficiëntere motoren en een intelligente lichtgewicht constructie.

Vanaf de lancering (of kort daarna) worden er twee dieselmotoren en drie benzinemotoren geleverd voor de nieuwe BMW X3. De 265 kW (360 pk) sterke BMW X3 M40i (gemiddeld brandstofverbruik: 8,2 – 8,4 l/100 km; CO2 -emissie gemiddeld: 188 – 193 g/km)* is in de X3-reeks het eerste M Performance-model. Ook wordt de X3 geleverd als BMW X3 xDrive30i, die een vermogen levert van 185 kW (252 pk) (gemiddeld brandstofverbruik: 7,4 l/100 km; CO2 -emissie gemiddeld: 168 g/km)**. De twee dieselmodellen zijn de BMW X3 xDrive20d met 140 kW (190 pk) (gemiddeld brandstofverbruik: 5,0 – 5,4 l/100 km; CO2 -emissie gemiddeld: 132 – 142 g/km)* en de BMW X3 xDrive30d die een vermogen levert van 195 kW (265 pk) (gemiddeld brandstofverbruik: 5,7 – 6,0 l/100 km; CO2 -emissie gemiddeld: 149 – 158 g/km)*. De BMW X3 20i (enkel in de VS) met 135 kW (184 pk) (gemiddeld brandstofverbruik: 7,2 – 7,4 l/100 km; CO2 -emissie gemiddeld: 165 – 169 g/km)** wordt vlak na de lancering van de nieuwe X3 leverbaar. Alle motorvarianten zijn standaard gekoppeld aan een verbeterde versie van de 8-traps Steptronic automaat.

De toepassing van de BMW EfficientDynamics ontwikkelingsstrategie heeft bij de nieuwe BMW X3 zowel geresulteerd in motoren die zuinig met brandstof omspringen en tal van slimme gewichtsbesparende maatregelen. Zo zijn de motor en de wielophanging aanzienlijk lichter geworden doordat er meer aluminium is gebruikt. Zodoende weegt de nieuwe

BMW X3 tot maximaal 55 kilo lichter dan vergelijkbaar uitgeruste uitvoeringen van de vorige generatie. Daarnaast heeft de nieuwe BMW X3 de laagste Cw-waarde in zijn segment: 0,29.

BMW ConnectedDrive: semi-autonoom rijden en state-of-the-art connectiviteit.

De nieuwe BMW X3 wordt geleverd met tal van BMW Personal CoPilot features die gericht zijn op ondersteuning van de bestuurder en (semi-)autonoom rijden. Tegen meerprijs is er de nieuwste generatie Active Cruise Control en het Driving Assistant Plus veiligheidspakket inclusief stuur- en rijbaanassistent, Lane Change Assistant (naar verwachting vanaf december 2017) en Lane Keeping Assistant met bescherming tegen aanrijdingen van opzij. Dit omvangrijke aanbod van assistentiesystemen brengt de nieuwe BMW X3 op voorsprong ten opzichte van zijn concurrenten.

De tweede pijler van BMW ConnectedDrive – naast de BMW Personal CoPilot rijassistentiesystemen – zijn de BMW ConnectedDrive Services en apps. Op basis van een flexibel platform, de Open Mobility Cloud, zorgt dit nieuwe geïntegreerde digitale concept voor een betere persoonlijke mobiliteit, waarbij de auto met behulp van diverse touchpoints (zoals smartphones en smartwatches) naadloos in het digitale leven van de gebruiker is te integreren. Bijvoorbeeld mobiliteitgerelateerde informatie, zoals adressen uit kalenders, van de smartphone zijn naar de auto over te brengen, waarbij deze automatisch als bestemmingen in het navigatiesysteem worden ingevoerd en waarbij de optimale vertrektijd voor de rit wordt berekend.

Verder maakt gebarenbesturing het mogelijk om tal van functies van het navigatie- en infotainmentsysteem op intuïtieve wijze te bedienen met vinger- en handbewegingen. Daarnaast maakt de eveneens optionele Voice Assistant het mogelijk om door middel van dagelijks taalgebruik bepaalde zaken te laten uitvoeren, waarbij de gebruiker geen specifieke commando’s hoeft te geven. Het tegen meerprijs leverbare Head-Up Display geeft de meest belangrijke rij-informatie weer in het zichtveld van de bestuurder. Het Head-Up Display van de nieuwe BMW X3 staat in zijn segment op eenzame hoogte wat betreft graphics, resolutie en displayopties.

In het Noorden van Zweden werd de BMW X3 getest in extreme omstandigheden.

Munich/Arjeplog. Driving dynamic and reliability are just two of the major characteristics of any BMW automobile. To ensure that a BMW functions in all conditions and that the customer is able to enjoy unrestricted access to that brand-typical “driving pleasure” at any time, BMW invests a great deal of time and know-how in both the construction and the testing of new automobiles. Long before a new model series arrives on the market, it will have had to withstand possibly the most severe endurance tests. This includes, for example, testing under extreme climatic conditions such as those prevailing in scorching hot deserts or freezing cold winter landscapes.

Fine tuning for optimal safety and maximum driving enjoyment.

Moreover, the extensive ice surfaces of frozen lakes and the numerous remote roads with their firmly packed layers of snow offer excellent conditions for fine tuning of the settings activated via the Driving Experience Control function – and hence for the application of maximum driving pleasure and best possible driving safety. As a result, engineers are in a position to sense the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour much more accurately and synchronize the control of driver assistant systems such as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) even more precisely and to attune it to the vehicle as a whole. It is this painstaking development work that later provides the customer with a competently tuned chassis for that typical BMW driving pleasure.

Ideal preconditions for testing the BMW X3 in the polar region.

Within the framework of the final winter trials, a BMW testing team completed a fastidious testing programme in wintery North Sweden. In the landscape around the small town of Arjeplog, pre-series models of the new BMW X3 had to prove that they are also able to withstand cold, ice and snow. Located in the historic province of Lapland barely 56 kilometres south of the polar circle, Arjeplog offers the ideal conditions for this. An abundant amount of snow and temperatures of minus 20 degrees and below cause the many lakes in the surrounding area to freeze over. The resulting vast, even surfaces serve as proving grounds on which steering, suspension and drive characteristics can be meticulously tested and various different technical solutions compared against one another. In the process, the intelligent four-wheel technology xDrive is able to demonstrate its advantages by not only ensuring best possible traction on icy surfaces but, thanks to fully variable distribution of torque, also by optimizing handling agility, this in turn resulting in enhanced driving dynamics and active driving safety.

Om het tekort aan autotechniekers bij de bron aan te pakken, ondersteunt BMW Group Belux al vele jaren de scholen die een opleiding automechaniek aanbieden. Dit jaar stelt de Duitse premium autofabrikant twee BMW X3’s ter beschikking van het Diagnose Car project. Op het Autosalon in Brussel werden de symbolische sleutels overhandigd. Tegelijk kreeg ook de middelbare school Githo Nijlen een BMW X3 ter beschikking als didactisch materiaal.

Reeds vier BMW’s en één MINI voor Diagnose Car.

Diagnose Car bundelt een pool van wagens die ze laten rondgaan bij de verschillende scholen die een opleiding automechanieken organiseren. Vanuit BMW Group Belux werden eerder al een BMW 1 Reeks Hatch, een BMW 3 Reeks Berline en een MINI Hatch 3-deurs geschonken. De leerlingen zullen zich voortaan ook op de twee middelgrote SAV’s kunnen uitleven.

Githo Nijlen wil leerlingen best mogelijke ondersteuning geven.

De opleiding Autotechnieken van de Nijlense middelbare school Githo maakt ook graag gebruik van de pool van wagens van Diagnose Car. Om hun leerlingen verder te kunnen laten professionaliseren, heeft BMW Group Belux een extra BMW X3 kunnen vrijmaken die zij voortaan als eigen lesmateriaal kunnen inzetten. De school zal zelf instaan voor de volledige ombouw tot testwagen, maar kan hiervoor ook rekenen op een diagnosetoestel en de nodige opleiding vanuit BMW Group Belux.

Bijblijven dankzij de BMW X3.

Steven Sels is leerkracht Autotechnieken bij Githo Nijlen: “De technologische ontwikkelingen in de autosector gaan razendsnel. Dankzij deze BMW X3 én de nodige software kunnen we onze leerlingen nog meer prikkelen en klaarmaken voor de arbeidsmarkt.”

De nieuwe BMW X3. De nieuwe BMW X3, de eerste Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) ter wereld in het
segment van middenklasse voertuigen, is vanaf september 2004 beschikbaar met
een gloednieuwe motor. Met de introductie van de X3 2.0d rust BMW zijn SAV voor
het eerst uit met een viercilinder krachtbron, die uiterst geschikt is voor
offroad gebruik. Hierdoor vergroot de aantrekkingskracht van het merk ten
opzichte van een nog grotere groep klanten, die de SAV speciaal voor die
rij-eigenschappen kiest.
Met een inhoud van 2.0 liter ontwikkelt de common rail diesel van de laatste
generatie met directe inspuiting in de X3 een maximum vermogen van 150 pk (110
kW) bij 4.000 omw/min en zijn maximum koppel bedraagt 330 Nm. Het lagere
brandstofverbruik van deze motor in dit model bewijst dat snelheid en
zuinigheid elkaar niet moeten tegenspreken bij een vierwielaangedreven
voertuig. De X3 verbruikt slechts 7,2 liter diesel over 100 km in de Europese
rijcyclus.

Na zijn meest recente verbetering, garandeert deze viercilinder in lijn in de
nieuwe BMW X3 2.0d een voor een diesel uiterst flexibel gedrag. Deze laatste
generatie common rail technologie met een inspuitdruk van meer dan 1600 bar,
laat hem toe een maximum koppel van maar liefst 330 Nm te bereiken, bij slechts
2.000 omw/min. Hierdoor kan de X3 op een indrukwekkende manier de
uitzonderlijke voordelen en sterke punten van de nieuwe BMW X3
vierwielaandrijving omzetten in dynamische prestaties op de baan, en dit onder
alle omstandigheden. De elektronisch gecontroleerde koppeling met meerdere
schijven verdeelt de aandrijfkracht binnen fracties van seconden over de twee
assen. Hiermee verzekert het systeem niet alleen een uitstekende tractie, maar
ook een snelle reactie en nooit geziene snelheid voor een permanente 4x4.

Perfecte harmonie: rijdynamiek, snelheid en zuinigheid, alles in één
De nieuwe BMW X3 2.0d is al even indrukwekkend wat zijn prestaties betreft. Hij
accelereert uit stilstand tot 100 km/u in 10,2 seconden, in vierde versnelling
trekt de X3 2.0d van 80 tot 120 km/u in amper 8,3 seconden. In combinatie met
een topsnelheid van 198 km/u biedt de nieuwe X3 2.0d dus alle troeven van een
echte BMW Sports Activity Vehicle. Fantastisch nieuws in deze context is dat de
zuinige motor en aandrijflijn deze nieuwe SAV in de gecombineerde EU-cyclus
maar liefst 875 km laten afleggen met slechts één brandstoftank.

Standaard zesversnellingsbak
In perfecte harmonie met de tweeliter krachtbron, verzekert de standaard
zesversnellingsbak ook een zuinig verbruik bij uitstekende prestaties. De
eerste versnelling is opgevat voor maximale trek-en duwkracht, uiteraard ten
voordele van acceleraties vanuit stilstand. Maar uiterst belangrijk voor een
wagen van zijn segment, biedt deze eerste versnelling ook superieure
kwaliteiten bij het vertrekken op een helling of met een aanhangwagen. De
overige vijf versnellingen - de topsnelheid wordt bereikt in zesde versnelling
- garanderen de bestuurder altijd de juiste versnellingsverhouding bij alle
soorten ondergrond en bij alle mogelijke snelheden. De chauffeur beschikt dus
altijd en overal over een superieur koppel en krachtige acceleraties.
Tegelijkertijd kan hij of zij de X3 op een ontspannen, bijna 'luie' manier
besturen. De zesversnellingsbak levert eens te meer op de typische, unieke BMW
manier, een vlotte en comfortabele versnellingswissel met korte en nauwkeurige
schakelbewegingen, waarmee het dynamische karakter van deze uitstekende Sports
Activity Vehicle nog verbeterd wordt.

De X3 2.0d wordt standaard geleverd met 235/55 banden voor alle seizoenen, rond
17-duims lichtmetalen velgen met een nieuw design. Zoals alle BMW X3's is hij
standaard voorzien van BMW's 'intelligente' xDrive permanente
vierwielaandrijving met elektronisch gecontroleerde meerschijvenkoppeling.
Andere standaard voorzieningen zijn DSC Dynamic Stability Control, DBC Dynamic
Brake Control, CBC Cornering Brake Control en BMW's Brake Force Display
(remkrachtdisplay) in twee stadia voor nog meer veiligheid. En zoals alle BMW
Sports Activity Vehicles, beschikt de X3 2.0d ook over het unieke Trailer
Stability Control van het merk. Dit systeem herkent en corrigeert automatisch
een gevaarlijke slingerbeweging van de aanhanger. Tenslotte worden veiligheid
en comfort ook verzekerd wanneer van de normale rijweg wordt afgeweken, door
HDC Hill Descent Control. Dit standaard geïnstalleerde systeem beheerst zowel
de snelheid van het voertuig als reminterventies bij steile afdalingen.

Nieuwe uitrusting voor alle X3's
Vanaf september worden naast de lancering van de X3 2.0d in alle X3's ook tal
van nieuwe uitrustingselementen gepresenteerd. Comfort, communicatie,
ontspanning en veiligheid worden nog hoger getild. Zo zal het BMW Business cd
audio system bijvoorbeeld ook cd's met MP3 files kunnen spelen en zal de
populaire voorbereidingskit voor Bluetooth mobiele communicatie alle functies
van het BMW Assist driver assistance systeem kunnen ondersteunen. De TV die
beschikbaar is in combinatie met het 'Professional' navigatiesysteem, zal op
zijn beurt niet alleen analoge, maar ook digitale televisiesignalen kunnen
ontvangen. Voortaan kan tenslotte ook een ISOFIX kinderzitje op de
passagierszetel vooraan bevestigd worden, waarbij de airbag automatisch
uitgeschakeld wordt.

De X3 2.0d zal vanaf midden-september beschikbaar zijn aan een prijs van 36.400
euro (incl. BTW). De motor en zijn emissiesysteem zijn in overeenstemming met
de huidige EU3 emissiestandaard.

BMW verrijkt zijn al erg goed ingeburgerde X-familie met een al even dynamisch
als veelzijdig voertuig: de nieuwe BMW X3 weet de buitengewone wegligging,
typisch voor BMW, te koppelen aan de uitgebreide gebruiksmogelijkheden eigen
aan een Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). Met de komst van de X3 beschikt de markt
voor de eerste keer over een prestigieus, luxueus alternatief in het
SAV-segment onder de X5. Deze wagen is klaar om de geasfalteerde maar ook de
zandwegen overal ter wereld de baas te kunnen.

BMW verrijkt zijn populaire X-familie met een tegelijk zeer dynamisch en zeer
polyvalent voertuig: de BMW X3 slaat inderdaad een brug tussen de buitengewone
handelbaarheid van een typische BMW en het grote gebruiksgemak van een Sports
Activity Vehicle (SAV). Met de komst van de X3 wordt de markt van de luxueuze
SAV's uitgebreid naar het onder de X5 liggende gamma. Deze wagen zal in alle
hoeken van de wereld zowel het asfalt als de onverharde wegen veroveren. De BMW
X3 beleeft zijn wereldpremière in september ter gelegenheid van het Salon van
Frankfurt (IAA).

In de X3 worden de karakteristieke verhoudingen van een SAV gekoppeld aan de
zowel klassieke als vooruitstrevende stijlelementen van BMW. De moderne
vormentaal, waarin holle en bolle elementen afgewisseld worden, verlenen aan de
X3 een frisse en jeugdige oogopslag. Verschillende karakteristieke details,
zoals bijvoorbeeld de nieuwe interpretatie van de typische vorm van de
achterste zijruiten, de hertekende 'neusgaten' of de voor- en
achterlichtblokken, onderstrepen de individualiteit van de X3 binnen het
BMW-gamma. De lange wielbasis zorgt, samen met de beperkte koetswerkoverhangen
en de naar achter duikende daklijn, zelfs bij stilstand voor een beklemtoning
van het dynamisme van de SAV. De gespierde, bolle wielkasten en de markante
snuit verlenen de nieuwkomer een uitgesproken persoonlijkheid, waarin zijn
soevereiniteit bevestigd wordt, ongeacht de omgeving waarin hij zich bevindt.

De zescilinder lijnmotoren van 3,0 liter, beroemd om hun buitengewone
soepelheid en vermogen (zowel in benzine- als in dieselversie), zetten het
dynamisme van de X3 om in praktijk. De X3 3.0i (170 kW/231 pk) bezorgt de wagen
een topsnelheid van 210 km/u in standaarduitvoering. Met de optionele
hogesnelheidsafstelling (beschikbaar met het sportpakket) bedraagt de
topsnelheid zelfs 224 km/u.
De X3 3.0d zal vooral de liefhebbers van een krachtig koppel kunnen bekoren.
Na zijn recente upgrading is de zescilinder turbodiesel met directe Common Rail
injectie van de tweede generatie goed voor een vermogen van 150 kW (204 pk) bij
een soeverein koppel van 410 Nm. In standaarduitvoering haalt deze X3 ook een
topsnelheid van 210 km/u, die kan opgedreven worden tot 218 km/u.
Beide motoren zijn standaard gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde
zesversnellingsbak; in optie is een vijftrapsautomaat voorzien. Nadien volgen
in verschillende stappen nog andere motorisaties.

De intelligente permanente vierwielaandrijving xDrive is een volledig nieuw
concept dat nieuwe referenties inzake handelbaarheid vestigt in het segment van
vierwielaangedreven voertuigen. Het is één van de bijzondere sterke punten van
de X3. xDrive laat een doorlopende variatie van het koppel toe tussen de voor-
en de achteras. Het systeem onderkent ogenblikkelijk iedere behoefte aan een
herverdeling van het vermogen over de assen en reageert daarop in een oogwenk,
op de weg meestal zelfs vooraleer een wiel adhesie kan verliezen. xDrive kan
daardoor op ieder ogenblik het meest optimale koppel naar iedere as sturen,
bijvoorbeeld in een bijzonder dynamisch genomen bocht, waardoor de neiging tot
onder- of overstuur tot het absolute minimum beperkt wordt.

Op de weg biedt xDrive een gevoelige verbetering van de handelbaarheid, het
rijplezier en - tegelijk - de veiligheid. In vergelijking met conventionele
permanente vierwielaandrijvingssystemen moeten de rijhulpsystemen zoals DSC pas
in een aanzienlijk later stadium tussenkomen. xDrive bevordert bovendien het
rijden op glad of oneffen wegdek, omdat heel snel het koppel gestuurd wordt
naar het wiel dat de beste grip op de weg behoudt als een ander wiel dreigt
door te spinnen en dus tractie verliest.

De polyvalentie van de nieuwe X3 beperkt zich echter niet tot diversiteit van
de ondergronden waarop hij zich voortbeweegt. Het passagierscompartiment en de
vele uitrustingsmogelijkheden maken er inderdaad de ideale BMW van voor actieve
en ruimdenkende mensen. Goed gezeten op de hoge stoelen (waarbij de verhoogde
zitposities karakteristiek zijn voor de Sports Activity Vehicles van BMW)
hebben de inzittenden niet alleen een perfect uitzicht over de omgeving, maar
ook op het ruime en moderne interieur. De typische BMW elegantie en esthetiek
werden gecombineerd met een jeugdige en sportieve omgeving, en met
verschillende praktische details die de roeping van het voertuig weerspiegelen.
Het ruime aanbod van kleuren en materialen, zowel klassieke als moderne en
sportieve, biedt talloze mogelijkheden om het interieur van de X3 een
persoonlijke toets te geven. Voor de bestuurderspost staan twee ronde
wijzerplaten op de typische BMW manier beschermd achter een elegant vizier. In
het midden van het dashboard bevindt zich het optionele kleurenscherm in
formaat 16/9 van het navigatiesysteem, dat automatisch verschijnt als het
bediend wordt.

De achterklep dekt een grote laadopening af, waardoor diverse
sportuitrustingen, zoals bijvoorbeeld meerdere mountainbikes, gemakkelijk in de
laadruimte kunnen geladen worden. Het functionele karakter van de X3 wordt
onderstreept door de aanwezigheid van verschillende bergruimtes. En voor wie
met bijzonder omvangrijke sportuitrusting zou willen vertrekken is er de
stabiliteitscontrole van de aanhanger, het unieke BMW systeem dat toelaat dat
in alle veiligheid een boottrailer of andere aanhanger getrokken wordt. Deze
uitbreiding van de DSC (dynamische stabiliteitscontrole) maakt deel uit van de
standaarduitrusting, net zoals het HDC (Hill Descent Control), waarmee in alle
veiligheid hellingen kunnen afgedaald worden, zelfs op ongelijke ondergrond.

Bij de ontwikkeling van de X3 moesten ook actieve en passieve veiligheid aan
hoge criteria beantwoorden. Het beproefde constructieprincipe van de SAV's van
BMW (met de voorste aandrijfas die doorheen het oliecarter van de motor loopt)
verleent ook aan de X3 een laag zwaartepunt, waardoor de zijdelingse overhang
beperkt wordt. Dankzij de intelligente verdeling van het koppel zorgt xDrive
ervoor dat de stabiliteit onder alle omstandigheden gewaarborgd blijft, zelfs
bij heel hoge bochtensnelheid. Daardoor zal de bestuurder niet geconfronteerd
worden met een aantal mogelijke kritieke situaties. Maar als zich ooit toch
zo'n situatie zou voordoen, is de standaard aanwezige DSC stabiliteitscontrole
er om de situatie recht te trekken.

De nieuwe BMW X3 zal begin 2004 beschikbaar zijn in Europa en in Noord-Amerika,
daarna ook op de andere markten.
