Developed with passion and designed to perfection, the BMW 7 Series Sedan has established itself as an innovation leader and technological pioneer around the world since it first took to the stage in 1977. Each generation has brought fresh impetus to its era – from groundbreaking safety functions and revolutionary operating concepts to digital worlds that set new standards. This forward-looking approach has been a hallmark characteristic of the BMW 7 Series Sedan for 49 years now.

The new BMW 7 Series represents the most extensive model update ever carried out by the BMW Group. The new BMW 7 Series – now entering its seventh generation – marks a big leap forwards once again. As the flagship model series of the BMW product range and a brand figurehead, the new BMW 7 Series Sedan takes the lead when it comes to the introduction of technologies from the Neue Klasse into existing models. This step also marks the beginning of a technology rollout – spanning drive system variants and market segments – from which all future BMW cars will benefit.

Premiere for the new BMW luxury-class design.
The new BMW 7 Series embodies the specific interpretation of the new BMW design language for the luxury segment. A monolithic exterior, the new BMW kidney Iconic Glow and minimalist crystal headlights give the car a visually impactful presence and make it easily recognisable. The side view impresses with reduced surfaces, a character line and classy details, while the rear end is shaped by newly designed lights and clear forms. Three BMW M Performance models provide sporting differentiation to striking effect, with the M Sport package and M Sport package Pro bringing further emphasis. BMW Individual offers a broad spread of personalisation options, including BMW Individual Dual-Finish paintwork – a world first marked by technological sophistication and expert craftsmanship. Completing the picture are a carefully curated selection of ex-factory wheels, from 20-inch rims to the new addition of 22-inch items.

Exclusive interior experience: feel-good ambience with luxurious materials, modern design and innovative technologies.
The interior of the new BMW 7 Series Sedan captures the imagination with a successful combination of luxurious materials, modern design and advanced technology. The clean design language, high-quality surfaces in materials such as leather, cloth, wood, crystal glass and metal, and innovative details create an exclusive yet also cosy atmosphere. The highlights are the new BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Passenger Screen (making its debut), the upgraded BMW Theatre Screen enabling cinematic experiences or working-on-the-move for rear-seat passengers, an immersive light concept with ambient light strip and new light elements, plus a Bowers & Wilkins sound system and Dolby Atmos support for an exceptional audio experience. Ergonomically designed seats (including comfort seats and the optional Executive Lounge), new steering wheels, updated automatic doors, a digital interior mirror[1], and standard features such as a panoramic glass sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control and the Travel & Comfort System round off the luxurious, individual overall experience.

The new BMW 7 Series combines the virtues of a luxury-class sedan with innovative BMW Neue Klasse technology and offers a far-reaching, digital user experience that focuses on both the driver and passengers. Among the highlights are BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X and optimum driver orientation, intelligent voice control with extended BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant including Amazon Alexa+ AI technology[2], and a powerful software and electronics architecture delivering future-proof functionality.

New features such as improved navigation with BMW Maps, user-friendly smartphone integration, digital M content from BMW Digital Premium, the BMW Digital Key Plus, plus numerous optional BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades and regular over‑the‑air software updates endow the BMW 7 Series Sedan with exceptional flexibility and keep it up to date.

The standard-specification BMW Passenger Screen and optional BMW Theatre Screen for 8K streaming, gaming and video calls provide top‑class entertainment for passengers and are augmented by popular third-party apps. The extensive entertainment offering is also available on the Central Display when the vehicle is stationary.

Proven commitment to technology openness: efficient combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and fully electric variants now offering over 720 kilometres / 447 miles of electric range (WLTP) thanks to technology including cylindrical cells from sixth-generation BMW eDrive.
The new BMW 7 Series Sedan impresses once again with the wide variety of drive systems available to customers. As well as efficient combustion engines with 48V mild hybrid technology and powerful plug-in hybrids, this also includes advanced fully electric variants. The use of innovative cylindrical cells – part of sixth-generation BMW eDrive – gives the fully electric models a significantly longer electric range that now extends to over 720 kilometres / 447 miles (WLTP). In addition, drivers benefit from user-friendly and intelligent charging solutions, route planning optimised for charging, adaptive recuperation and integration into the energy market for cost-optimised charging. The exceptionally poised and assured BMW 740d xDrive is now joined by the BMW 740 xDrive. And completing the line-up are two plug-in hybrid variants. In addition, a total of three BMW M Performance models demonstrate the strong commitment of the new BMW 7 Series to Sheer Driving Pleasure.

Advanced assistance systems with BMW Symbiotic Drive and use of AI to maximise comfort and safety in partially automated driving and parking manoeuvres.
The new BMW 7 Series Sedan employs advanced technologies and increases the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to set new standards of comfort and safety in partially automated driving and parking manoeuvres. Innovative SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems and active safety functions provide noticeable added value, while BMW Symbiotic Drive optimises the interplay between the driver and their car. The Motorway Assistant enables hands-off driving up to 130 km/h (81 mph) in numerous European countries, and the City Assistant now supports navigation-guided Address-2-Address journeys in urban areas. The new driver assistance visualisation function in BMW Maps gives the driver a better overview of the situation when using the navigation system. The range of active safety functions specified as standard has been broadened compared to that of the predecessor model, while the standard-fit Park Assist, and AI-supported parking space detection and manoeuvre planning make parking extremely intuitive and comfortable.

Driving pleasure meets the pleasure of being driven: unique combination of driving dynamics and comfort.
As before, the new BMW 7 Series Sedan blends compelling driving dynamics with the comfort levels of a luxury chauffeur-driven sedan and so meets the diverse needs of different customer groups around the world – from drivers looking for sporting responses from their car to passengers prioritising comfort. Innovative chassis technology, including standard adaptive 2‑axle air suspension featuring four electronically controlled shock absorbers, allows the BMW 7 Series to offer standout driving characteristics and safety. 22-inch wheels are now available from the factory for the first time as an alternative to the 20-inch items fitted as standard. The optional Adaptive Chassis Control with Integral Active Steering and Adaptive Chassis Control Professional with Integral Active Steering and roll stabilisation raise the bar once again in terms of comfort and agility. Specific chassis upgrades brought by the M Sport package turn the dynamic dial up another notch, as do a trio of M Performance models. And cutting-edge functions such as digital tyre conditioning monitoring with AI, the integrated braking system and near-actuator wheel slip limitation ensure top-drawer handling and safety.

When maximum security meets luxury: the BMW 7 Series Protection.
The BMW 7 Series Protection brings together exceptionally high levels of safety, security and luxury. It provides occupants with protection from attacks with firearms or explosives and has VR9 certification – with VPAM 10 classification, representing the highest level of protection, available as an option. Underpinning this capability is the innovative BMW Protection Core with multi-layer armouring consisting of steel, special alloys, composite materials and bulletproof glass. The suspension and brakes are set up specially to ensure BMW’s signature dynamic ability is preserved. A new BMW 7 Series Protection special protection vehicle based on the new BMW 7 Series is in the final stages of development.

Focus on sustainability: resource-efficient development and production, innovative CO₂ reduction measures and TÜV-certified transparency throughout the car’s life cycle.
With the new BMW 7 Series, the BMW Group is extending its sustainability strategy across all drive-system variants. The focus here is on resource-efficient product development, innovative technologies and measures applied throughout the car’s life cycle – from the supply chain to production and the use phase. In the case of the BMW i7, in particular, CO₂e emissions have been significantly reduced with the help of secondary materials, renewable energies and optimised manufacturing processes, e.g. through the use of Gen6 battery cells and aluminium wheel rims with a high recycled material content. The company’s ambitious climate goals, including reducing CO₂e emissions by 60 million tons by 2035, are part of a 360° sustainability approach. Transparency is guaranteed by TÜV-certified carbon footprint verification. Production uses electricity and heat generated from renewable sources, supported by photovoltaic systems and a biomass heating plant.

Production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.
All model and drive-system variants of the new BMW 7 Series Sedan will be built on a single production line at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The tradition-rich location in Lower Bavaria combines the customary BMW passion for flawless engineering with skilled craftsmanship like no other. By beginning the rollout of Neue Klasse technologies, BMW Group Plant Dingolfing is once again assuming the role of lead plant for the new BMW luxury-class models.

The new BMW 7 Series Sedan celebrates its world premiere on 22 April 2026. The start of production and worldwide market launch will follow just a few months later, from July 2026.

De nieuwe BMW i7: Duurzaamheid in het product en de productie ervan.

Gen6-batterijceltechnologie met een kleinere CO₂e-voetafdruk +++ Gebruik van secundaire materialen en hernieuwbare energie +++ Verbeterde efficiëntie tijdens de gebruiksfase

Munich. In line with its sustainability strategy, the BMW Group is once again systematically leveraging product sustainability innovations in the new BMW 7 Series. This is evident, for example, in the use of a new battery cell technology and a higher percentage of secondary material in the wheel rims. These measures represent a targeted further development, applying proven sustainability approaches to another BMW model.

Sixth-generation (Gen6) battery cells in the new BMW i7: Measures to reduce CO₂e in core component.
Essential levers for reducing supply chain CO₂e emissions include increased use of secondary materials and renewable energies, in combination with selected product and process innovations.
Gen6 battery cells for the BMW i7’s high-voltage battery are manufactured exclusively using energy from renewable sources. The same applies to production of the necessary anode and cathode active material. Cell production also relies in part on secondary raw materials for the lithium, cobalt and nickel required. This reduces the overall supply chain CO₂e footprint of the Gen6 battery cell in the new BMW i7 60 xDrive by approximately 33 percent compared to the previous Gen5 cell used in the BMW i7 to date.

Aluminium wheels with high percentage of secondary raw materials.
From 2026, selected rim designs for the BMW i7 will be available with 70 percent secondary aluminium. Electrolysis of the remaining primary aluminium, as well as wheel rim production, is carried out in part using renewable energy. All components with a high percentage of secondary raw materials meet the BMW Group’s same strict quality standards, while also contributing to resource efficiency.

Enhanced efficiency during use phase.
With its EfficientDynamics technology package, the BMW Group optimises vehicle efficiency across all relevant subsystems during the use phase. This includes aerodynamics, lightweight construction, rolling resistance and overall energy management. EfficientDynamics has been used by the BMW Group across all drive technologies since 2007.

Production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.
All model variants of the new BMW 7 Series Sedan are produced at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The facility in Lower Bavaria, the Group’s primary plant for BMW luxury cars, increasingly relies on renewable energy for electricity and heating. 100 percent of its external electricity comes from renewable sources, some of which is also generated directly on site. In late 2025, an approximately 100,000-square-metre rooftop photovoltaic system with an output of almost 11 MWp was commissioned at the facility. In addition, a biomass heating plant went on-stream late last year to ensure that locally-produced heat is partially supplied from renewable energy sources.

In line with BMW Group’s sustainable development goals.
The BMW Group’s commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement and to reaching “net zero” no later than 2050 is an integral part of its holistic 360° approach to sustainability, which is anchored in its corporate strategy. The BMW Group has set itself ambitious science-based CO₂e targets for the coming years and intends to reduce its CO₂e emissions by a total of at least 40 million tonnes from 2019 levels by 2030.

Transparency through BMW Vehicle Footprint.
The BMW Group has published its vehicles’ Product Carbon Footprint, as validated by the German Technical Inspection Association (TÜV), in the so-called Vehicle Footprint for several years. This report is publicly available here for all drive trains of the new BMW 7 Series from the start of production and can also be accessed in the My BMW app. In this way, the BMW Group creates transparency around the percentage of secondary materials and CO₂e emissions throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

BMW-modelupdates voor de herfst van 2023.

München. De nieuwe voorzieningen zullen het BMW-gamma vanaf dit najaar naar een nog hoger niveau tillen op het vlak van digitalisering. De nieuwe BMW X1 en BMW 2 Reeks Active Tourer worden vanaf november 2023 uitgerust met de opgewaardeerde BMW iDrive met QuickSelect en het BMW Operating System 9. Tegelijkertijd wordt het aanbod van BMW Digital Premium, met zijn uiterst personaliseerbare selectie van online services, in beide modelreeksen geïntroduceerd. Via Remote Software Upgrade zullen bovendien extra digitale diensten beschikbaar worden voor een groot aantal huidige modellen. Daarnaast zal een uitgebreide waaier van functies ook de aantrekkingskracht van de My BMW-app versterken.

Intuïtiever en gebruiksvriendelijker dan ooit: nieuwe BMW iDrive met QuickSelect.

Vanaf november 2023 wordt de opgewaardeerde BMW iDrive met QuickSelect standaard gemonteerd in alle modelvarianten van de nieuwe BMW X1, de zuiver elektrische BMW iX1 en de nieuwe BMW 2 Reeks Active Tourer, waardoor tal van voertuigfuncties nog intuïtiever en eenvoudiger kunnen worden bediend. De nieuwste versie van het weergave- en bedienings-/besturingssysteem is gebaseerd op het BMW Operating System 9 en maakt samen met het BMW Curved Display en de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant deel uit van een pakket.

De nieuwe BMW iDrive beschikt over een nieuw ontworpen startscherm en de QuickSelect-sneltoegang met verbeterde menustructuur die voortbouwt op de kenmerken van consumentenelektronica. Het nieuwe startscherm toont op elk moment de kaartweergave van het navigatiesysteem of andere individueel configureerbare grafische elementen op het controlescherm. Op hetzelfde niveau verschijnen functiepictogrammen in een verticale opstelling aan de bestuurderszijde van het display. Zo kunnen bestuurders met een verticale veegbeweging van de vinger overschakelen tussen pictogrammen. Met de QuickSelect-functie kan de op deze manier geselecteerde functie rechtstreeks worden geactiveerd zonder een submenu in te voeren.

Het BMW Operating System 9 werd intern ontwikkeld door de BMW Group en is voor het eerst gebaseerd op een AOSP-softwarestack (Android Open Source Project). Het legt de basis voor een breder aanbod van digitale inhoud voor informatie en entertainment, aangevuld met kortere updatecycli voor functies en een betere toegankelijkheid voor diverse specifieke online diensten.

Nieuw aanbod van BMW Digital Premium: gepersonaliseerde selectie van gaming, video & muziekstreaming, evenals andere online diensten.

Het nieuwe BMW Digital Premium-aanbod wordt in november 2023 gelanceerd in Duitsland, samen met de introductie van het BMW Operating System 9. Het wordt als optie verkrijgbaar op de BMW X1, BMW iX1 en BMW 2 Reeks Active Tourer en kan worden besteld in de BMW ConnectedDrive Store, die nu werd uitgebreid met bijkomende apps van derden. Zo kunnen klanten in hun wagen genieten van alle apps die in hun land beschikbaar zijn als onderdeel van een pakket, bv. video- en muziekstreaming, nieuws of gaming. Daarnaast omvat BMW Digital Premium ook verbeterde navigatiefuncties en extra personaliseringsmogelijkheden dankzij onder meer extra My Modes.

Net als alle andere ConnectedDrive Upgrades is BMW Digital Premium verkrijgbaar in de ConnectedDrive Store, en dat via de website, in de My BMW-app of rechtstreeks in de wagen. En vanaf november 2023 wordt het voor klanten nog eenvoudiger om ConnectedDrive Upgrades toe te voegen, omdat het dan mogelijk wordt om ze niet alleen rechtstreeks in hun wagen te selecteren, maar er tegelijk voor te betalen. Met andere woorden, in plaats van doorgestuurd te worden naar de app of het internet om hun bestelling te voltooien, zullen klanten het volledige proces, inclusief betaling, kunnen uitvoeren vanuit het comfort van hun wagen.

Dit nieuwe aanbod biedt klanten de mogelijk om een gepersonaliseerde selectie uit het groeiende aanbod van digitale diensten samen te stellen – een aanbod dat perfect aansluit bij hun persoonlijke behoeften. BMW Digital Premium is bijvoorbeeld in Duitsland verkrijgbaar voor 9,98 euro per maand of vanaf medio 2024 (voorlopig) tegen een jaarlijkse vergoeding van 99 euro (beide inclusief btw). Het pakket omvat ook het datagebruik voor alle digitale diensten en apps uit de BMW ConnectedDrive Store, inclusief muziek- en videostreaming. Klanten kunnen genieten van een gratis proefperiode van drie maanden waarmee ze alle diensten en inhoud van BMW Digital Premium kunnen uitproberen.

Een nieuwe vorm van in-car gaming, die haar gelijke niet kent in de autosector, is een van de hoogtepunten van BMW Digital Premium. BMW presenteert in samenwerking met gameplatform AirConsole een uitgebreide selectie van casual games die een smartphone als controller gebruiken. De games kunnen worden gespeeld in de solo- of multiplayermodus wanneer de wagen stilstaat, bijvoorbeeld om de tijd te doden terwijl de hoogspanningsbatterij van de BMW iX1 of de BMW 2 Reeks Active Tourer plug-in hybrid wordt opgeladen. In eerste instantie zullen er ongeveer tien titels beschikbaar zijn om te spelen, waaronder racen, sport, quiz en skill games, en het assortiment zal verder blijven groeien.

Naast audiostreaming biedt BMW Digital Premium de inzittenden ook toegang tot een brede waaier van videostreamingdiensten (powered by Xperi TiVo) op het controlescherm terwijl de wagen stilstaat. Die geven klanten een steeds grotere selectie aan geaggregeerde video-inhoud, zoals nieuws en live of on-demand streaming van films en series, in combinatie met landspecifieke inhoud. De Video App, die met BMW Digital Premium verkrijgbaar is in de VS, het VK, Zuid-Korea, Frankrijk, Italië, Duitsland en Spanje, omvat onder meer de portalen Pluto, Bloomberg Television, Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera en TED. In Duitsland zal het pakket bovendien de nieuws-app van Tagesschau en de populaire streamingdienst JOYN omvatten. Ook in Italië en de VS zal vanaf het begin landspecifieke content worden aangeboden. De portfolio van videostreamingplatformen zal blijven evolueren en zal ook geleidelijk aan worden uitgerold naar andere landen.

Verbeterde navigatiefuncties, bijkomende My Modes.

Een van de belangrijkste voordelen van BMW Digital Premium is de verbeterde functionaliteit van het cloudondersteunde navigatiesysteem BMW Maps. Zo geeft de realtime verkeersinformatie (RTTI) met kleurcodering aan hoe het verkeer over de volledige kaartzone verloopt, zelfs wanneer de routegeleiding niet is geactiveerd. Andere functies zijn 3D-visualisatie van gebouwen en omliggende elementen in de kaartweergave en uitgebreide informatie over parkeerfaciliteiten. De bestuurder wordt ook proactief op de hoogte gebracht van de huidige verkeerssituatie en de geschatte aankomsttijd wanneer hij/zij naar vaak voorkomende bestemmingen rijdt. Indien nodig zal het systeem zelfs een alternatieve route voorstellen. De uitschakelinstructies en rijstrookaanbevelingen worden in realistische vorm weergegeven op het informatiedisplay en het optionele Head-Up Display.

In Duitsland en andere Europese landen biedt BMW Digital Premium het bijkomende voordeel dat het bestuurders toelaat om parkeerkosten rechtstreeks vanuit hun wagen te betalen in parkeerzones die deze betaalmethode ondersteunen. Bovendien kunnen Duitse bestuurders de brandstofrekeningen van hun auto ook digitaal betalen na het tanken bij deelnemende tankstations. In beide gevallen wordt betaald met een creditkaart die eerder via de My BMW-app werd geregistreerd bij partnerbedrijf Parkopedia.

Daarnaast voegt BMW Digital Premium de Expressive Mode, Relax Mode en Digital Art Mode toe aan de keuze van My Modes. Zo krijgen klanten nog meer mogelijkheden om de rijervaring te personaliseren. Het introduceert ook nieuwe varianten voor zowel de welkomstverlichting als de grafische weergave van de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

Huidige software-upgrades op afstand voor nog meer rijplezier.

De Remote Software Upgrades brengen bestaande digitale functies up-to-date. Tegelijkertijd kunnen nieuwe functies en kwaliteitsverbeteringen ook via de lucht in de auto worden geïmporteerd. De nieuwste gaming- en videostreamingdiensten voor BMW-modellen zullen in de herfst van 2023 op deze manier beschikbaar worden gesteld voor de meeste wagens met het BMW Operating System 8.5.

Klanten krijgen ook een melding van de Remote Software Upgrades in de My BMW-app. Een andere mogelijkheid bestaat erin om upgrades via de My BMW-app te downloaden en naar de wagen over te brengen alvorens daar het installatieproces te starten.

Extra functies voor de My BMW-app.

De My BMW-app voor smartphones biedt klanten een directe link met hun wagen en, naargelang de voertuigconfiguratie en het land, het voordeel van talloze functies die de dagelijkse mobiliteit nog eenvoudiger maken. Een voorbeeld daarvan zijn de gegevens die naar de smartphone van de gebruiker worden doorgestuurd en betrekking hebben op de status van zijn wagen, de onderhoudsvereisten, de laadstatus en het rijbereik, alsook toegang vanop afstand tot functies om de wagen te lokaliseren, de deuren te vergrendelen en ontgrendelen, de klimaatregeling te bedienen en de onmiddellijke omgeving van de wagen te controleren. Ook kan men laadroutes plannen via de My BMW-app en bestemmingsadressen van de smartphone naar het navigatiesysteem van de wagen verzenden. Vanaf de herfst van 2023 wordt het ook mogelijk om tussenstops in te voeren als onderdeel van het proces.

Vanaf maart 2024 kunnen klanten met compatibele Android-smartphones de My BMW-app ook gebruiken om de functies Remote Control Parking en Manoeuvre Assistant te bedienen die beschikbaar zijn in combinatie met het optionele Parking Assistant Professional en BMW Digital Key Plus. De My BMW-app geeft op geschikte voertuigen ook de status van het alarmsysteem aan en toont hoe het geheel of gedeeltelijk kan worden geactiveerd.

Bijkomende koetswerkkleur voor de nieuwe BMW 5 Reeks Berline, nieuwe 21" lichtmetalen velgen voor de 7 Reeks.

Kort na zijn lancering wordt al een nieuwe tint toegevoegd aan de koetswerkkleuren van de nieuwe BMW 5 Reeks Berline. De metaalkleur Fire Red zal vanaf november 2023 beschikbaar zijn voor de BMW i5 M60 xDrive Berline (elektriciteitsverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 20,6 – 18,2 kWh/100 km), alsook voor alle andere modelvarianten van de nieuwe zakenberline met het M-Sportpakket.

Vanaf november 2023 wordt een uiterst exclusief design van lichtmetalen velgen toegevoegd aan het optiegamma voor de BMW 7 Reeks. Tegelijkertijd worden ook 21" lichtmetalen velgen met multispakendesign van BMW Individual verkrijgbaar voor alle modelvarianten van de luxeberline. BMW Group op de IAA Mobility 2023 in München.

Munich. At the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, the BMW Group will be presenting the most recent highlights of its ongoing transformation in the key action areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity. The latest new models with electrified powertrains from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands, plus Vision Vehicles and concepts for individual mobility in tomorrow’s world all serve to underline the company’s innovative strength in these fields. As the dawn of a new era in personal mobility approaches, the BMW Group is set to unveil its latest highlight, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which brings together the Group’s development expertise in the three crucial disciplines for the future of mobility.

The IAA Mobility show is being staged in Munich for the second time. For the BMW Group and its brands, this provides an excellent opportunity to enter into constructive dialogue on the future of individual mobility with local people, as well as with visitors to the show from outside Munich and other stakeholders. The IAA Mobility Summit at the exhibition centre and the BMW Group’s Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich will be the main arenas where BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad present their new products on 5 – 10 September 2023. Among the models visitors can acquaint themselves with here alongside the BMW Vision Neue Klasse is the fully electric BMW i5. And they can also experience the world premieres of the new fully electric MINI Cooper, new fully electric MINI Countryman and BMW CE 02 eParkourer.

Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public, ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5 – 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA Mobility 2023. The current model portfolios of the BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands are presented here, along with the latest BMW and MINI Lifestyle collections. Plus, starting on 2 September 2023, BMW Lifestyle together with BMW M GmbH will be running a GOODS WITH FREUDE pop-up store in the Hofstatt shopping centre at No. 10 Sendlinger Straße. Located just a few minutes’ walk away from the Open Space, the store will feature both familiar lifestyle articles and the new BMW Lifestyle collection.

World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range. Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission together with its power electronics. The highly integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km [256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 20.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 – 470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 – 18.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment, which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models – meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time, maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment, as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation. Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle, increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with various target groups around the world. This allows selected test groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air, through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of 180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential – provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at all times.

The two models developed on the basis of the new BMW 7 Series succeed in blending an unrivalled protection concept with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, exceptionally advanced equipment features and the class-beating dynamic prowess for which the brand is renowned. As the world’s first ever protection berline with an all-electric drive system, the BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is a genuine trailblazer. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new combustion-engine BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 15.6 l/100 km [18.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions: 355 g/km, provisional figures).

The integrated security concept of the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection was factored into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range. It centres around the new BMW Protection Core, which is unique worldwide and comprises the model-specific self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof and armoured glass. Both models will be built at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in an elaborate “craft manufacturing” process. The two protection vehicles are set to make their public debut at the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, with deliveries to customers requiring special protection commencing in December 2023.

The new protection models offer customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. They have been classified as offering class VR9 protection based on the internationally recognised official test criteria of Germany’s Vereinigung der Prüfstellen für Angriffshemmende Materialien und Konstruktionen (Association of Test Laboratories for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions – VPAM, for short). The certification is based, among other things, on the third edition of the guidelines for Bullet Resistant Vehicles (VPAM BRV) with regard to ballistic resistance and the guidelines for Explosive Resistant Vehicles (VPAM ERV, third edition) and PAS 300 with regard to blast resistance. The glass for the two models even protects against fire from calibre 7.62x54 R ammunition — a threat from the highest civilian resistance class VPAM 10. A partial protection extension is also available as an option for the new BMW 7 Series Protection in defined bodywork areas against fire from VPAM 10 ammunition.

The first all-electric model in its protection category and offered exclusively in Europe, the BMW i7 Protection demonstrates how outstanding qualities in terms of security level, driving dynamics, ride comfort and interior comfort are perfectly compatible with a rigorous focus on sustainability. Its arrival sees the BMW Group once again acting as a pioneer in the field of locally emission-free mobility for individuals requiring special protection. At the IAA Mobility 2021 show, the company presented the BMW Concept iX5 Hydrogen Protection VR6, the first protection vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system to be certified anywhere in the world. It showcased the BMW Group’s ability to come up with sustainable solutions even in this specialised vehicle segment by applying its standout development expertise.

Innovative protection concept featuring unique BMW Protection Core.

The innovative protection concept for BMW’s new protection berlines is a product of traditional know-how combined with cutting-edge technology. BMW has now amassed 45 years of experience in the development and production of protection vehicles. The protection concept currently applied was devised as part of the series production development process for the new BMW 7 Series and, more than ever, offers major advantages over armouring a finished vehicle at a later date.

This is largely thanks to the unique BMW Protection Core, which sees the entire supporting structure for a protection ’s body constructed from armour steel for the first time. Its three-dimensionally engineered elements are all made of exceptionally resistant, hot-formed steel alloys. The BMW Protection Core forms a self-supporting protective cell, which is then combined with protection-spec doors, armouring for the underbody and safety glass.

Special armouring designed to offer maximum protection against explosives in particular has been used for both the roof and underbody of the two protection berlines. This means the occupants are also protected from drone attacks with explosive charges, for example, and from fragments dispersed by hand grenades on detonation.

Also to be found on the list of standard security features for the BMW 7 Series Protection is a self-sealing fuel tank, with special casing that enables it to seal itself after being hit by a bullet to prevent any loss of fuel.

As part of the certification process, the special protection elements must demonstrate their ability to resist attack by undergoing a demanding procedure. In addition to this, experts from an independent state testing institute conduct firearms and explosive tests on the vehicle. The official inspection and certification of the complete vehicle finally provides confirmation of the all-round protection offered by the holistic concept for the new protection vehicles from BMW.

Greater spaciousness, lower weight and sharper agility combined with uncompromising occupant protection.

The structural protection concept achieved with the pioneering BMW Protection Core endows the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection with an unrivalled set of characteristics. When seen from the outside, just a few details distinguish the two protection berlines from a regular 7 Series Berline with the M Sport package. Their discreet and largely inconspicuous appearance on public roads represents an additional safety factor for people requiring protection.

The BMW Protection Core design principle has the added effect of increasing the cabin’s spaciousness. Thanks to the fully integrated protection concept, the levels of room and seating comfort in the front and rear hardly differ from those to be found inside a conventional BMW 7 Series Berline in all key criteria.

The innovative protection concept used for the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection has additionally allowed their weight to be optimised compared with predecessor models. Not only does the weight saving result in a considerably higher load-carrying capacity, it also has a particularly positive effect on the protection berlines’ handling abilities. The optimised weight combines with the increase in body rigidity (another benefit of the BMW Protection Core) to deliver unrivalled levels of agility. This all translates into extremely precise handling control, excellent cornering dynamics and outstanding figures for acceleration and top speed.

The BMW i7 Protection brings the all-electric mobility experience to the protection vehicle segment for the first time. Individuals requiring special protection are therefore able to choose a vehicle that requires no compromises to be made in terms of either security or sustainable drive technology.

The locally emission-free powertrain on board the BMW i7 Protection comprises one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. It uses numerous components taken from the drive system in the brand’s most powerful all-electric production model, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 23.7 – 20.8 kWh/ 100 km), allowing it to deliver supreme performance. Its BMW TwinPower Turbo technology includes an upgraded turbocharging system with electrically operated blow-off valve and indirect charge air cooling, along with a cross-bank exhaust manifold. The new 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine uses 48V mild hybrid technology to optimise power delivery and efficiency.

The new drive system generates maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system directs drive power to all four wheels as required. The new BMW 7 Series Protection combines superior driving dynamics with levels of efficiency that are also unrivalled. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.6 seconds and goes on to reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).

Model-specific chassis technology for assured performance.

The new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection come with chassis technology that has been modified and tuned specifically for these models and makes allowance for the additional weight resulting from their special protection features. This produces superbly assured performance in any situation. Thanks to a robust basic construction and the presence of sophisticated chassis systems, passengers in the rear compartment are also able to enjoy exceptional levels of ride comfort. The protection berlines also make their mark with precisely controllable handling, even when they are being driven hard, such as when escaping from an attack.

Unique in the segment: Integral Active Steering.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are the first and only protection vehicles in their segments to be fitted with Integral Active Steering. This rear-wheel steering functionality not only reduces the car’s turning circle when manoeuvring, it also increases precision and the dynamic response through quickly taken corners. Another key attribute of Integral Active Steering – which is specified as standard – is how it enhances driving comfort for rear-seat passengers.

20-inch light-alloy wheels with exclusive PAX tyres.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are fitted with 20-inch light-alloy wheels, which represents a standout offering in their segments and enables the use of a particularly powerful braking system.

The model-specific light-alloy wheels in star-spoke design are fitted with tyres – supplied by Michelin in the dimensions 255-740 R510 – that have been specifically developed for the protection berline. The large diameter of these tyres and the extremely high volume of air they hold compared with rivals enhance ride comfort, while the larger contact area benefits traction and driving stability. The PAX tyres have a runflat ring positioned on the wheel rim which allows the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

Driver assistance systems with information and warning function.

In keeping with their status as protection vehicles, the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are equipped with an extensive selection of driver assistance systems. The functionality of this tech is focused on supporting professional chauffeurs with information and warnings, but without actively intervening to control the vehicle.

The highly advanced sensors developed for the new BMW 7 Series range and all of the cameras available for the luxury berline are also fitted on the protection vehicles. These provide precise and detailed information on the area around the vehicle in all situations. The requisite data and images are supplied by e.g. the parking view, Panorama View, Remote 3D View and BMW Drive Recorder functions included in the Parking Assistant Plus package. Also on hand are the alert functions of the front-collision warning, Crossroads Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info systems.

Extensive comfort-enhancing features with exclusive details.

In order to optimise visibility out of the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection in low ambient temperatures, an electric heating function for both the windscreen and the front sections of the side windows comes as standard. Model-specific pre-heating is available as an option.

Another item on the options list is a cool box integrated between the rear seats to ensure the on-board drinks supplies are kept cold. Its net capacity of eight litres offers sufficient space for two water bottles and two glasses, which can be cooled to 4 or 10 degrees Celsius as desired.

The standard-fitted Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, meanwhile, lays on a high-end audio experience. The 1,265-watt digital amplifier, individually adjustable equalizers and 28 speakers combine to deliver a full, even sound for all those on board. The system also includes a pair of exciters integrated into each of the seats, which convert low bass frequencies into noticeable vibrations.

An exclusive convenience feature offered for the first time on a BMW model is motorised assistance for opening and closing the doors, which comes as standard. It is available immediately after unlocking the car and reduces the force required to open or close the armoured doors. Also unique in this segment is a function that enables occupants to close the doors automatically at the touch of a button after climbing in.

Passengers in the second row of seats in the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection benefit from electrically operated roller sunblinds for the windows on both sides. The blinds extend horizontally from the B-pillar towards the C-pillar and offer what is known as a spy position. Here, the sunblind opens by around ten centimetres at the touch of a button to allow a view outside. From this position, passengers have the option of opening or closing the sunblind fully. A model-specific roller sunblind for the rear window is also included as standard.

Broad range of options for individualising the exterior and interior.

The integrated protection concept of the protection berline and production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing maximise the scope for customers to put their personal touch on the exterior and interior. Offered as an option alongside the standard illuminated BMW kidney Iconic Glow are the BMW crystal headlights Iconic Glow. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection can be specified in almost all of the body colours available for the new BMW 7 Series range. These include the BMW Individual paint finishes and BMW Individual special paint finishes. The exterior design options are closely aligned with those available for the standard versions of the cars and allow the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection to maintain a low-profile presence in public areas.

The appointments and design of the interior can likewise be adapted to personal needs and desires at a detail level. Multifunction seats, BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated seats for the front and rear occupants are all part of standard specification. A massage function can be specified for all seats as an option. The optional Executive Lounge includes comfort seats with a reclining function for the rear seat behind the front passenger. The range of optional seat and interior surfaces is also carried over from the richly varied options list for the new BMW 7 Series.

BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display and integrated operation of model-specific security functions.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are equipped with the latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way that will be familiar to BMW drivers. The driver can therefore view all the important information on the BMW Curved Display at the right time and in the right place within their direct line of sight. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. They can be activated and controlled in full using the touchscreen capability of the control display.

A camera-based additional interior mirror can be specified as an option. This shows the image feed from the Reversing Assist Camera in the control display’s panorama view at all driving speeds and on any kind of route. The electronic additional interior mirror is unique in the protection vehicles segment in this form.

The standard-fitted intercom system allows the car’s occupants to communicate with people on the outside without having to open doors or windows. Key features here are microphones integrated into the exterior mirrors, an outside speaker, the hands-free microphone embedded in the headliner and supplementary speakers in the interior. Added to which, a rod microphone can be fitted as an option in the centre console storage tray to enable effective communication with people outside the car even when the windows are closed.

Effective protection measures for a variety of attack scenarios.

With their wide-ranging standard and optional equipment features, the new protection berline from BMW offer custom-spec protection in attack scenarios of various types. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection can be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguisher with automatic and manual discharge, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Security built in from the start: integrated protection concept, service provided worldwide by trained experts, special driver training.

The many years of experience amassed by BMW in the manufacture of protection vehicles has enabled the company to achieve outstanding levels of protection with the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection – as, most notably, has the decision to develop these vehicles alongside the standard variants of the new BMW 7 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection offer built-in security from the factory. Unlike retrofit solutions carried out by an external provider, the integral protection concept of these vehicles ensures not only maximum security under armed attack, but also well-resolved handling and the dynamic responses expected of a BMW in dangerous situations. The development expertise of the world’s most successful premium carmaker has produced a wealth of innovative functions that allow people requiring special protection to enjoy an even safer and more secure mobility experience. The smooth integration of the model-specific protection features within the BMW iDrive system helps ensure these features are intuitive, safe and comfortable for the driver to use in any situation.

De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive.

BMW M introduceert een zuiver elektrisch prestatiemodel als speerpunt van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks. De BMW i7 M70 xDrive (elektriciteitsverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 23,8 – 20,8 kWh/100 km) is het krachtigste zuiver elektrische model in het gamma van BMW Group. Met zijn elektromotoren op de voor- en achteras, die samen een maximaal systeemvermogen van 485 kW/660 pk* genereren, en zijn M specifieke onderstel levert de BMW i7 M70 xDrive de perfecte combinatie van elektrische mobiliteit en prestaties, voor een unieke rijervaring in het luxesegment. Het topmodel van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks sprint in 3,7 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u. De topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 250 km/u.

De BMW i7 M70 xDrive levert het hoogste vermogen ooit voor een volledig elektrische wagen van BMW Group en werpt zich op als een nieuwe mijlpaal voor BMW M GmbH in zijn transformatie naar elektrische mobiliteit. Na de lancering van de BMW i4 M50 – wereldwijd het meest verkochte model van BMW M GmbH in 2022 – en de BMW iX M60 is de BMW i7 M70 xDrive het derde prestatiemodel met een zuiver elektrisch aandrijfsysteem van het merk. Het succes van de elektrische aandrijving bij de liefhebbers van BMW M, de consequente uitbreiding van het productaanbod en de constante toename van het vermogen laten geen twijfel bestaan over het enorme potentieel van de elektrische technologie om prestaties te leveren die tot de verbeelding spreken.

Het nieuwe zuiver elektrische prestatiemodel van BMW M maakt zijn wereldwijde debuut op het internationale autosalon van Auto Shanghai (18-27 april 2023) in China. Hij zal, net als alle andere modelvarianten van de luxeberline, worden gebouwd in de BMW Group-fabriek in Dingolfing. De fabriek in Neder-Beieren is niet alleen de toonaangevende fabriek voor luxemodellen, maar omvat ook het competentiecentrum voor de productie van elektrische aandrijfsystemen, dat ter plaatse zowel de elektromotoren als de hoogspanningsbatterijen voor alle varianten van de BMW i7 produceert. De wereldwijde lancering van de BMW i7 M70 xDrive gaat in de tweede helft van 2023 van start.

Zuiver elektrische BMW M-prestaties in het luxesegment.

De vijfde generatie van de BMW eDrive-technologie, die in de BMW i7 wordt geïnstalleerd, wordt voortdurend ontwikkeld om zowel het vermogen als de efficiëntie verder te verbeteren. Dat geldt niet alleen voor de aandrijflijn en de vermogenselektronica, maar ook voor de hoogspanningsbatterij en de oplaadtechnologie.

De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive beschikt over sterk geïntegreerde aandrijfeenheden op de voor- en achteras, die de elektromotor, de vermogenselektronica en de transmissie samenbrengen in een enkele, erg compacte behuizing. De twee motoren werken volgens het principe van een elektrisch bekrachtigde synchroonmotor. Dat ontwerp maakt het mogelijk om geen zeldzame aardmetalen (nodig voor magnetische componenten) te gebruiken bij de productie van de rotor.

De krachtigste elektromotor van BMW.

De M-specifieke configuratie van het aandrijfsysteem geeft met name de achterasmotor van de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive een ongeëvenaarde vermogensdichtheid. De aandrijfeenheid heeft een zesfasig ontwerp met een dubbele omvormer. Deze vormt de basis voor de aanzienlijke stijging van het piekvermogen, dat tot erg hoge snelheden op peil blijft, waardoor de BMW i7 M70 xDrive kan schermen met de typische vermogensontplooiing van M-modellen. De vermogensdichtheid van 2,41 kW/kg betekent een stijging met 25,5 procent ten opzichte van de motor die de achteras van de BMW i7 xDrive60 aandrijft. Daarmee beschikt de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive over de krachtigste elektromotor van de constructeur.

Dit nieuwe standaardcijfer kan worden toegeschreven aan een door BMW Group gepatenteerde innovatie die werd ontwikkeld onder de koepel van BMW EfficientDynamics, en die zes excitatiewikkelingen in de stator van de motor gebruikt in plaats van de gebruikelijke drie. Dankzij die ‘dubbele excitatie’ in vergelijking met conventionele eenheden kan de elektromotor ondanks zijn uitzonderlijk lichte en compacte design een extreem hoog vermogen leveren en dat continu in de hogere segmenten van het snelheidsbereik houden. Deze oplossing is ook gevoelig superieur aan een aandrijfconfiguratie met twee motoren op de achteras, zowel wat de vermogensdichtheid als de efficiëntie betreft.

Een maximaal vermogen met de M Sport Boost-functie en M Launch Control.

De motor op de achteras genereert een maximumvermogen van 360 kW/489 pk. De nauwkeurig gecoördineerde interactie met de 190 kW/258 pk sterke motor op de vooras levert de elektrische vierwielaandrijving een koppel van 1.015 Nm in de Sport-modus en 1.100 Nm wanneer de M Launch Control- of M Sport Boost-functie wordt geactiveerd. Het aandrijfsysteem van de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive onderscheidt zich dan ook door een uitzonderlijke trekkracht. De BMW i7 M70 xDrive sprint in een indrukwekkende 3,7 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u en werpt zich op als de snelste zuiver elektrisch aangedreven BMW. Zijn topsnelheid is elektronisch begrensd op 250 km/u. De prestaties van het aandrijfsysteem worden ook gekenmerkt door een onstuitbare vermogensontplooiing, waardoor de wagen zelfs bij hogere snelheden fors blijft accelereren.

Met de functie M Launch Control zijn zowel de aandrijving als de tractiecontrole in de motorregeleenheid geïntegreerd. Op die manier wordt het door de elektromotoren opgewekte vermogen uiterst nauwkeurig gedoseerd, zodat de typische M-prestatiekenmerken van het aandrijfsysteem onmiddellijk kunnen worden omgezet in adembenemende acceleraties zonder enig verlies van tractie.

De M Sport Boost-functie wordt geactiveerd met de schakelpaddle links van het stuurwiel en wordt gevisualiseerd door de Performance-specifieke graphics in het instrumentenbord. Tegelijk zorgt het standaard ‘BMW IconicSounds Electric by Hans Zimmer’ voor een passende akoestische ondersteuning door over te schakelen op een bijzonder opwindende, specifieke M Performance-klank.

Het karakter van de soundtrack varieert naargelang de gekozen instelling, met een duidelijk hoorbaar onderscheid tussen de modi ‘My Mode Personal’ en ‘Sport’. In de sportmodus is het geluidsspectrum bijzonder dominant en krachtig. Het aandrijfgeluid dat speciaal voor zuiver elektrische BMW M-modellen is samengesteld, zorgt zo voor een nog intensere beleving van de prestatiekenmerken.

Uiterst dynamische prestaties, uitstekende langeafstandscapaciteiten.

De uiterst dynamische prestaties van de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive gaan hand in hand met uitstekende langeafstandscapaciteiten. Dat is niet alleen te danken aan de efficiëntie van de sterk geïntegreerde aandrijfeenheden, maar ook naar een schat aan maatregelen om het stroomverbruik te verminderen. Voorbeelden daarvan zijn de adaptieve recuperatie van remenergie en de warmtepomp die wordt gebruikt in het geïntegreerde verwarmings- en koelsysteem voor het interieur en de aandrijflijn. De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive verbruikt over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus 23,8 – 20,8 kWh per 100 kilometer.

Even belangrijk als deze geoptimaliseerde efficiëntie is de indrukwekkende energiedichtheid van de hoogspanningsbatterij. De batterij bevindt zich in de bodem van de wagen en biedt een bruikbare energiecapaciteit van 101,7 kWh. Dat geeft de BMW i7 M70 xDrive een rijbereik van 488 – 560 kilometer (WLTP-cyclus), waardoor hij zich perfect leent voor dagelijks gebruik. De Combined Charging Unit beschikt over een uiterst geavanceerde laadsoftware, ontwikkeld om de hoogspanningsbatterij sneller en efficiënter op te laden. De BMW i7 M70 xDrive kan standaard worden opgeladen met wisselstroom tot 22 kW. Bij gelijkstroom is een vermogen tot 195 kW mogelijk. Daardoor kan het rijbereik in tien minuten tijd met maar liefst 170 kilometer (WLTP) worden uitgebreid tijdens een tussenstop aan een laadstation met hoog vermogen.

Bedrijfsmodus MAX RANGE: extra rijbereik met een druk op de knop.

Het rijbereik van de auto kan tijdens het rijden worden uitgebreid door deze nieuwe modus van het aandrijfsysteem te activeren. Samen met de BMW i7 M70 xDrive wordt ook de MAX RANGE-modus geïntroduceerd voor de zuiver elektrische modellen in de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks. In deze modus worden het aandrijfvermogen en de topsnelheid zorgvuldig beperkt en werken de comfortfuncties in een zuinigere modus, waardoor het rijbereik met ongeveer 15 tot 25 procent kan worden verlengd.

De MAX RANGE-modus werd voornamelijk ontwikkeld voor situaties waarin bestuurders niet onderweg kunnen laden zoals oorspronkelijk gepland, omdat het laadstation dat ze bezochten bijvoorbeeld buiten gebruik is. Door over te schakelen naar My Mode Efficient en de MAX RANGE-stand te activeren, wordt het bereik vergroot met een comfortabele marge voor de reis naar een alternatief laadpunt voor de hoogspanningsbatterij. Daarbij wordt de topsnelheid van de wagen begrensd op 90 km/u. Tegelijk wordt de klimaatregeling voor het interieur uitgeschakeld en gebruikt de achterruitverwarming een lagere stand, terwijl de zetelverwarming, de zetelventilatie en de stuurwielverwarming helemaal worden uitgeschakeld in de MAX RANGE-modus. Op het bedieningsscherm verschijnt een pop-upvenster dat de gerealiseerde winst aangeeft als extra rijbereik. Op het informatiescherm worden snelheden van meer dan 90 km/u verborgen op de snelheidsmeter om ook daar het extra rijbereik weer te geven.

De MAX Range-modus kan worden geactiveerd via het aanraakscherm of de Controller of met een gesproken commando voor de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Het systeem kan ook worden uitgeschakeld door het gaspedaal fors in te trappen (kickdown), de M Sport Boost-functie in te schakelen of de ventilatie van de voorruit te maximaliseren.

Motor- en chassistechnologie in een M-specifieke toepassing.

Net als het extreem krachtige aandrijfsysteem draagt de chassistechnologie bij tot de unieke prestatie-ervaring in het luxesegment, doordat ze nauwkeurig is afgesteld om M-specifieke prestatiekenmerken af te leveren.

De elektrische vierwielaandrijving, de stuurinrichting, de schokdempers en de stabiliteitssystemen worden ondersteund door de M-specifieke afstelling van alle controlesystemen, die de rijeigenschappen in alle situaties optimaal inschatten. Het globale maatregelenpakket werd geoptimaliseerd tijdens een doorgedreven testprogramma en vertaalt zich in een uitzonderlijk sportieve wegligging voor deze klasse, in combinatie met een hoog comfort over lange afstanden. Dankzij het vrijwel geruisloze aandrijfsysteem kunnen vooral de achterpassagiers genieten van een weelderig comfortniveau. Wanneer de bestuurder de sportievere capaciteiten van het model verkent, getuigt de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive van de typische combinatie van dynamisme, wendbaarheid en precisie waarvoor BMW M-modellen bekend staan, en die haar gelijke niet kent in deze klasse. My Mode Sport activeert aandrijf- en chassisinstellingen die puur op dynamische prestaties zijn gericht, voor een opwindende rijervaring.

De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive is standaard uitgerust met een M‑specifieke adaptieve luchtvering op beide assen, elektronisch gestuurde schokdempers en een automatische niveauregeling. De M-specifieke luchtvering met kleiner volume en aangepaste rolcontouren verhoogt het aantal trillingen op de voor- en achteras in beide gevallen met zes en zorgt voor een merkbaar directe verbinding met het koetswerk. Ook worden M-specifieke hydraulica gebruikt om de schokdemperrespons te optimaliseren.

Een bijkomend paneel tussen de scheidingswand en de veerpoottorens tilt de koetswerkstijfheid vooraan de BMW i7 M70 xDrive naar een merkbaar hoger niveau. Eveneens standaard zijn Integral Active Steering en het chassispakket Executive Drive Pro, inclusief actieve rolstabilisatie met Active Roll Comfort. Deze twee systemen verhogen niet alleen het comfort, maar verbeteren samen met het stijvere koetswerk ook het rijgedrag van de auto. Zo rijgt hij moeiteloos de bochten aan elkaar, met scherpe en nauwkeurige instuurkenmerken.

De blauwe M Sport-remmen met M-logo zijn standaard voorzien van grote remschijven voor meer remkracht. De zwarte gelakte remzadels zijn verkrijgbaar als onderdeel van het optionele M Performance-pakket. Ook kan hij als eerste zuiver elektrisch aangedreven model uit de BMW 7 Reeks worden geschoeid met optionele sportbanden. De standaard lichtmetalen 21"-velgen van BMW M werden speciaal voor de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive bedacht met metalen inzetstukken in Jet Black met een hoogglanzende afwerking voor een exclusief, aerodynamisch geoptimaliseerd design.

Sportieve uitstraling, luxueuze elegantie, stijlvolle eigenheid.

De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive dankt zijn superieure prestaties aan het krachtigste aandrijfsysteem ooit ontwikkeld met BMW eDrive-technologie en de M-specifieke chassistechnologie. Die prestaties worden bovendien op authentieke wijze weerspiegeld in zijn zelfverzekerde design. met M-specifieke designkenmerken zoals de M-buitenspiegels met opvallende dubbele deursteun, de BMW-nieren met M-logo's, de specifieke inzetstukken in de achterbumper en de M-logo's op de zijpanelen vooraan. Zo werpt de i7 M70 xDrive zich op als aanvoerder van een nieuw tijdperk van zuiver elektrische mobiliteit in het luxesegment. Tegelijk vormt zijn extravagante look een nieuwe mijlpaal in de elektrificering van het merk BMW M.

Het nieuwe topmodel van de BMW 7 Reeks verenigt de boeiende visuele uitstraling van de nieuwste modelgeneratie met extra sportieve kracht en het expressieve aura van een BMW M-model. In combinatie met de luxueuze elegantie die de proporties van de berline oproepen, creëert dit een stijlvolle individualiteit die overeenstemt met het exclusieve karakter van de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive.

Zoals alle leden van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks belichaamt de BMW i7 M70 xDrive de uitmuntende innovatieve kracht van het merk. Tot de hoogtepunten die het topmodel een gevoel van progressieve luxe geven en het gevoel van welzijn tijdens lange ritten versterken, behoren de BMW Interaction Bar in de cockpit en de Executive Lounge-zetels met geoptimaliseerde kantelfunctie achteraan. Het unieke BMW Theatre Screen en het Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound-systeem met optionele luidsprekers in de zetels maken van het achtercompartiment een exclusieve, persoonlijke bioscoop op wielen. Het comfort en de veiligheid worden nog verhoogd door geavanceerde systemen voor geautomatiseerd rijden en parkeren. Zo kunnen de parkeerassistent (Parking Assistant) en de manoeuvreerassistent (Manoeuvre Assistant) nu ook vanop afstand worden bediend met de My BMW App. Dat maakt het voor klanten heel wat gemakkelijker om krappe parkeerplaatsen in en uit te rijden.

De deuren laten zich automatisch openen en sluiten met de My BMW App en BMW Digital Key Plus.

Sinds maart 2023 is het in sommige landen mogelijk om de optionele automatische deuren van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks individueel te openen en te sluiten vanop een afstand van maximaal zes meter buiten de wagen. Dat kan door in de My BMW-app op de relevante buttons op het smartphonedisplay te drukken. De BMW Digital Key Plus, een digitale autosleutel die werkt via een smartphone, maakt het in- en uitstappen nu nog comfortabeler bij de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive. Het verschil schuilt in de uitgebreide vergrendel- en ontgrendelfunctie voor de automatische ontgrendeling van de deuren bij het naderen van de auto en de automatische vergrendeling bij het weglopen. Het omvat nu ook een contactloze openings- en sluitingsfunctie voor het bestuurdersportier.

De bestuurdersdeur opent automatisch wanneer de smartphone waarop de BMW Digital Key Plus is geïnstalleerd binnen een bepaalde afstand van de wagen komt. Nadat de bestuurder in de auto is gestapt, kan hij de deur weer sluiten door het rempedaal in te drukken. Daarnaast werkt de BMW Digital Key Plus samen met de geïntegreerde botsbeveiligingsfuncties voor de automatische deuren om de beweging van de deur te stoppen wanneer er een obstakel wordt gedetecteerd. Verwacht wordt dat de uitgebreide BMW Digital Key Plus vanaf de zomer van 2023 beschikbaar wordt op alle versies van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks met automatische deuren.

Opvallend gelijnde neus geeft blijk van superieure dynamiek.

De exclusieve accenten en M-typische designelementen die de technische vereisten van een auto weerspiegelen bij een sportieve rijstijl, onderscheiden de koetswerklook van de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive van die van de andere modellen in de 7 Reeks. Zijn opvallende aura laat geen twijfel bestaan over de dynamiek van de wagen en benadrukt vanaf de eerste aanblik het prestatiepotentieel van het krachtigste elektrisch aangedreven model in het productgamma van BMW Group.

Centraal in het neusdesign van het nieuwe vlaggenschip staat de nieuwe interpretatie van de typische dubbele ronde koplampen en nieren van BMW. De lichtfuncties zijn verdeeld in twee afzonderlijke zones. De uiterst fijne lichtstrip, die hoger in de voorzijde is geplaatst, brengt de dagrijlichten, zijlichten en richtingaanwijzers samen. De als optie verkrijgbare BMW kristalkoplampen Iconic Glow zorgen bovendien voor een uniek lichteffect. De dim- en grootlichten bevinden zich in het donkerdere, onderste deel en zitten diep in de voorbumperschort.

Een extra vleugje exclusiviteit: verlichte BMW nieren Iconic Glow voor het eerst verkrijgbaar in combinatie met het M Performance-pakket.

De imposante uitstraling van de voorkant wint nog aan visuele impact met de contourverlichting voor de BMW-nieren. Op wagens met het optionele M Performance-pakket wordt dit pakket op de BMW i7 M70 xDrive voor het eerst gecombineerd met een radiatorroosterrand in hoogglanzend zwart. Dat creëert een onmiskenbare lichtsignatuur en bovendien wordt de neus van de wagen nog indrukwekkender gemaakt door het rijkelijk contrasterende visuele samenspel tussen de fel verlichte contouren en de donkere glinstering van de radiatorroosterrand.

Een ander opvallend kenmerk van de neus van het performance-model zijn de oppervlakken boven de BMW-nieren. De inkeping die door het midden van de motorkap tot aan de bovenrand van de BMW nieren loopt, vormt een opvallende omranding voor het BMW-logo.

De BMW nieren – met een M-logo dat het dynamische karakter van het topmodel benadrukt – worden omzoomd door hoogglanzende zwarte oppervlakken die hem visueel nog prominenter maken. Grote luchtgeleidingselementen in koetswerkkleur lijken uit de buitenste delen van de voorschort naar buiten te komen, omkaderen het zwarte middendeel en geleiden de luchtstroom naar de luchtgordijnen uiterst links en rechts van de bumperschort.

Flanken en achterkant met M-specifieke designkenmerken.

M-specifieke designkenmerken op de flanken en achterzijde van de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive steken het prestatiekarakter van de topversie niet onder stoelen of banken. De opvallende M-zijschorten, M-logo’s met versierde randen op de voorste zijpanelen, M Shadowline-sierlijst in hoogglans en zwarte M-buitenspiegels met dubbele voet zorgen voor de sportieve accenten.

Een modelspecifieke achterschort met diffusorinzet maakt het expressieve uiterlijk van dit zuiver elektrische M Performance-model compleet. Wagens met het optionele M Performance-pakket beschikken over een zwarte M-spoiler achteraan, een zwarte accentstrip tussen de achterlichten en een – eveneens zwarte – inleg voor de achterschort.

Nieuwe varianten van de tweekleurige BMW Individual-afwerking.

De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive biedt een ruime keuze aan koetswerkkleuren, waaronder varianten die exclusief zijn voorbehouden aan BMW M-modellen en bijzonder opvallende matglanzende Frozen-lakkleuren. Eigenaars kunnen een extra laag visuele extravagantie toevoegen met de tweekleurige lakafwerkingen van BMW Individual, die voortaan ook speciale lakkleuren van BMW Individual kunnen omvatten. Beschikbaar vanaf de lancering van de BMW i7 M70 xDrive is de combinatie van BMW Individual Liquid Copper metallic voor het onderste deel van het koetswerk en Saphire Black metallic voor het bovenste deel. Een exquise, nauwkeurig getrokken karakterlijn scheidt beide twee kleurzones van elkaar als een delicate signatuur.

Bovendien biedt het gamma koetswerkkleuren de klanten extra mogelijkheden om hun wagen te personaliseren. Met de acht tweekleurige varianten en de ruim honderd speciale lakkleuren van BMW Individual vinden alle klanten een tint die perfect aansluit bij hun smaak en die het uiterlijk van hun BMW i7 M70 xDrive een heel persoonlijke toets geeft. Alle speciale lakkleuren van BMW Individual worden aangebracht in een afzonderlijk productieproces, waarbij een groter deel van het werk met de hand wordt uitgevoerd.

Duurzaam geproduceerde Frozen-lakkleuren op basis van biomassa.

BMW Group is wereldwijd de eerste autoconstructeur die matte lakken uit biomassa in plaats van ruwe olie gebruikt in zijn Europese fabrieken. De Frozen-lakkleuren die beschikbaar zijn voor de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive worden geproduceerd met behulp van dit innovatieve proces. Hernieuwbare grondstoffen zoals bioafval of afval van rioolwaterzuiveringsinstallaties, die de organische componenten van verf kunnen vervangen, dienen als uitgangsmateriaal voor deze ‘biomass balance’-lakken.

Het ‘biomass balance’-proces vergt geen wijzigingen aan de formulering van het product, maar betekent gewoon dat de grondstoffen worden gewonnen uit zorgvuldig berekende duurzame bronnen. Deze duurzame lakken zijn chemisch identiek aan equivalenten die fossiele grondstoffen gebruiken en voldoen aan dezelfde hoge kwaliteitsnormen die BMW Group voor alle gebruikte materialen hanteert. Het gebruik van duurzame lak, gemaakt met bioafval, vermindert niet alleen het gebruik van fossiele grondstoffen, maar vermijdt ook de CO₂-uitstoot die gepaard gaat met de productie, het transport en de verwerking van ruwe olie.

Sportieve uitstraling en maximale interieurindividualisering.

Klanten die de interieursfeer en de koetswerklook van hun nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive personaliseren, kunnen dat op verschillende manieren doen. De i7 M70 xDrive wordt standaard geleverd met M-specifieke uitrustingsdetails die zijn sportieve flair benadrukken en zijn geconcentreerde gevoel van rijplezier versterken. Voorbeelden daarvan zijn de verlichte M-deurdrempels, de lederen bekleding M Merino in Black/Atlas Grey, het lederen M-stuur, M-specifieke uitrusting op het BMW Curved Display en een M-voetsteun voor de bestuurder.

Op de optielijst staan onder meer het BMW Individual-interieur met en zonder exclusieve voorzieningen in een totaal van negen kleurvarianten en de BMW Individual-combinatie van Merino-leder en kasjmierwol met exclusieve details in twee varianten, eveneens aangeboden in Zwart/Donkergrijs. Als optie wordt voor de i7 M70 xDrive de interieurafwerking M Carbon Fibre met Silver Threads aangeboden, in combinatie met oppervlakken in Piano Black.

BMW Individual Manufaktur produceert unieke creaties op maat.

Voor de ultieme klantgerichtheid, producten op maat en een vlijmscherp oog voor kwaliteit, moet de BMW Individual Manufaktur uw eerste aanspreekpunt zijn. De specialisten van de BMW Individual Manufaktur ontwikkelen en produceren exclusieve, unieke creaties met design- en uitrustingsdetails voor exterieur en interieur die de wensen van de klant nauwkeurig weerspiegelen. Die omvatten specifieke bekledingsopties, zoals een tweekleurige variant, borduurwerk op de hoofdsteunen en gepersonaliseerde deurdrempelplaten en interieurelementen.

Individuele oplossingen, bedacht met creativiteit, precisie en meesterlijk vakmanschap, creëren ontwerpen die de persoonlijke stijl van de eigenaar getrouw weerspiegelen. Om ervoor te zorgen dat de kwaliteits- en veiligheidsnormen van BMW Group worden gehandhaafd, wordt elk onderdeel van de BMW Individual Manufaktur onderworpen aan dezelfde testprocedure als de standaardonderdelen.

Vernieuwde BMW iDrive met QuickSelect en BMW OperatingSystem 8.5.

De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive is een van de eerste modellen van het merk met de vernieuwde versie van het bedienings-/besturingssysteem BMW iDrive met QuickSelect en het BMW Operating System 8.5. Om de selectie en bediening van diverse functies en digitale diensten nog intuïtiever en comfortabeler te maken, biedt de nieuwste generatie van BMW iDrive een nieuw ontworpen startscherm en QuickSelect-functionaliteit. Dat resulteert in een verbeterde menustructuur die inspiratie put uit elektronische consumententoestellen. Door de juiste informatie op de juiste plaats weer te geven, helpt de nieuwe BMW iDrive om een doelgerichte en zelfverzekerde rijervaring af te leveren.

De BMW iDrive-update draagt ook bij tot een breder aanbod van digitale inhoud voor informatie en entertainment, alsook tot kortere updatecycli voor functies, betere informatie over oplaadpunten voor elektrische voertuigen en een verbeterde toegang tot een groot aantal specifieke online diensten. BMW iDrive met QuickSelect werkt ook samen met het BMW Curved Display en de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, zodat de bestuurder het geheel kan bedienen via het aanraakscherm of met gesproken commando’s.

BMW iDrive met QuickSelect is gebaseerd op BMW Operating System 8.5, dat zijn debuut maakt in een seriemodel. De nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive belichaamt dan ook niet alleen een nieuwe dimensie van rijplezier met een volledig elektrische aandrijving, maar wijdt tevens het nieuwste digitale scherm, bedieningsconcept en infotainment in.

De functies worden op één niveau weergegeven en kunnen worden geactiveerd met sneltoetsen.

Het nieuwe startscherm toont op elk moment de kaartweergave van het navigatiesysteem of andere individueel configureerbare grafische elementen. Op hetzelfde niveau kunnen functiepictogrammen in een verticale opstelling aan de bestuurderszijde van de gebruikersinterface worden geselecteerd door over het scherm te vegen. QuickSelect geeft rechtstreeks toegang tot de bijbehorende functies, zonder dat men een submenu hoeft te doorlopen. En zodra de relevante instellingen zijn gekozen, volstaat een snelle tik op het home-pictogram onderaan het scherm om terug te keren naar het startscherm.

De nieuwe menustructuur maakt het activeren van functies en instellingen veel sneller en eenvoudiger. De digitale inhoud aan boord is – net als de hardware in de vorm van het BMW Curved Display – ontworpen om de bestuurdergerichtheid waarvoor BMW bekend staat, te verbeteren. BMW iDrive levert de juiste informatie op het juiste moment en de juiste plaats. Om een intuïtieve bediening te verzekeren, bieden de grafische interface en menustructuur een lay-out ontwikkeld door BMW Group Design, die zowel consistent als kenmerkend is voor het merk.

M-specifieke inhoud op het BMW Curved Display.

De emotionele prestatie-ervaring in de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive wordt nog versterkt door M-specifieke inhoud op het BMW Curved Display. Op belangrijke punten weerspiegelen de typografie en de presentatie van de grafieken die in de cockpit van de performante BMW M GmbH-modellen. De cijfers van de snelheidsmeter op het informatiedisplay verschijnen in een platina/zilveren kleur. Bovendien zorgt de inschakeling van M Sport Boost-functie voor een typische visuele M-weergave.

De nieuwe BMW iDrive met QuickSelect wordt ondersteund door een opgewaardeerde versie van het BMW Operating System 8, zoals gebruikt in alle huidige BMW-modellen met BMW Curved Display. Het BMW Operating System 8.5 maakt gebruik van de nieuwste hoofdeenheid van het infotainmentsysteem, die onder meer de grafische verwerking verzorgt.

BMW Maps met nieuwe, geoptimaliseerde routegeleiding naar laadpalen.

Andere hoogtepunten van de nieuwe BMW iDrive zijn de uitgebreide functies van het cloudondersteunde navigatiesysteem BMW Maps. Dat biedt voortaan niet alleen een Augmented View-weergave op het informatiescherm achter het stuur, maar ook verbeterde functies voor een nog nauwkeurigere routeplanning naar laadpalen. Dat helpt om lange ritten in de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive uiterst comfortabel, efficiënt en snel te laten verlopen.

De reeds in de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks geïntroduceerde diensten en apps zijn eveneens beschikbaar in combinatie met het BMW Operating System 8.5. Zo kunnen de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant en andere spraakgestuurde assistenten, BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades, BMW Remote Software Upgrades, videostreaming op het controlescherm, smartphone-integratie via Apple CarPlay^® en Android Auto™, My Modes en de Personal eSIM ook worden gebruikt in de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive.

Dingolfing. The first series-produced vehicles of the new BMW 7 Series have today rolled off the production lines of BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. In fact, today was a double debut, with the new top-of-the-range BMW manufactured not only with highly efficient combustion engines but also as the fully electric BMW i7. Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG Board Member for Production: “Our new BMW 7 Series is the first luxury sedan in the world to offer customers a choice between three types of drive. Whether fully electric, combustion-powered or, soon, plug-in hybrid, we have the flexible production structures and outstanding integration skills we need to manufacture such a diverse range of drives efficiently.”

Over €300 million invested in Dingolfing vehicle plant

The BMW Group invested over €300 million to ready the Dingolfing vehicle plant for production of the new BMW 7 Series. As it strives consistently to implement the BMW vision of production of the future, its largest European plant is increasingly being transformed into a BMW iFACTORY practising the ‘Lean. Green. Digital.’ approach. For the first time, the BMW Group is piloting automated manoeuvres within the production environment by just-made BMW 7 Series vehicles – and optimising assembly and outbound logistics processes as a result.

BMW i7: The latest milestone on the road to e-mobility in the luxury segment

With production under way, once sales organisations have been provided with the show and demonstration vehicles they need, the new BMW 7 Series will be available to customers worldwide in the autumn of this year. The BMW i7, especially, marks the next step in the BMW Group’s electromobility campaign for the luxury segment, which Dingolfing has come to symbolise. Board Member Milan Nedeljković: “Exactly a year ago, we were here to celebrate the start of production of our BMW iX. Today the BMW i7 is the latest milestone on our journey. Next year will see the launch of the fully electric variant of the BMW 5 Series as we step up the pace of electromobility and electrify our core model series.” By the end of 2022, one in four BMWs leaving Dingolfing is already expected to incorporate an electric drive, rising to approx. 50 percent of the plant’s total output by the middle of this decade, according to current plans.

100 percent exchange flexibility between different types of drive

The new BMW 7 Series is assembled on the same line as the BMW 5 Series, 8 Series and the fully electric BMW iX. “We are 100 percent flexible and able to switch between drive variants for the BMW 7 Series,” explained Christoph Schröder, Plant Director. “This means we can manufacture completely in line with demand for the various drives and use our plant capacity as fully as possible.”

BMW 7 Series benefits from product and process modules of the BMW iX

The new BMW 7 Series builds on various technology modules of the BMW iX – not just for individual features like the onboard network architecture, user interface and driver assistance systems but also in terms of production and validation processes in assembly, for which the BMW iX was the trailblazer. Examples include the redesigned aggregate fitting station, sling loop assembly, test rigs for driver assistance systems and the new finish process, which is now even more efficient throughout, from first ignition to the vehicle dispatch area. The BMW iX is currently one of Dingolfing’s most successful vehicles.

Re-using systems, plus the special two-tone paint process

Converted during production shutdowns, the bodyshop was able to integrate the new BMW 7 Series into the structures previously used to manufacture the model’s predecessor. By adapting and re-using systems in this way, the BMW Group has saved hundreds of millions of euros and a wealth of resources. The floor assemblies of the new BMW 7 Series have distinct geometries and vary in part, depending on the type of drive, yet they can all be manufactured completely flexibly in any combination on one and the same main production line. In addition, automation – in door fitting, for instance – and a reduction in material combinations and the bonding processes required have made processes more efficient. In the paintshop, a special process has been established for the exclusive two-tone paintwork of the new BMW 7 Series, melding techniques from series production with the manual painting skills of the Dingolfing specialists.

Inhouse production of e-drive components

The e-drive components of the BMW i7 – specifically the high-voltage battery and highly integrated electric drive – are also made in Dingolfing. Like those of the BMW iX, BMW i4 and BMW iX3, they are manufactured nearby, in the BMW Group Competence Centre for e-Drive Production.

Recently the Competence Centre launched two new production lines, enabling the facility to produce sufficient e-drives for more than 500,000 electric cars a year. The workforce has also increased, from approx. 600 in early 2020 to over 2,300 today.

“The transformation to a BMW iFACTORY is well under way”

“With their breakthrough technologies, vehicles like the BMW 7 Series are catalysts for change – including in our plants,” emphasised Milan Nedeljković, pointing out that they involve innovations not only in the product but also in production. “Dingolfing’s transformation into a BMW iFACTORY is well under way,” added Christoph Schröder. “We have hundreds of employees working to make our plant more efficient, flexible and sustainable, with effective innovations and digitalisation solutions as the key drivers of progress.”

The Lean. Green. Digital. approach of the BMW iFACTORY is already a reality in the production halls of Plant Dingolfing.

Lean. Flexibility and the widespread rollout of smart logistics solutions

The aspect of Lean is being realised at Plant Dingolfing to a large degree by the flexible layout of production structures. “Our structures give us the exchange flexibility we need to switch between different models and drive types, the volume flexibility to react quickly to radically fluctuating demand, and the order flexibility to accommodate the last-minute changes customers can request up to just a few days before their car is produced. Here in Dingolfing, flexibility is simply a part of our DNA,” said Christoph Schröder.

Another example of how digitalisation supports the efficiency goals of Plant Dingolfing is the comprehensive rollout of smart logistics solutions. Dingolfing is the company pioneer in this regard, operating not only automated forklifts but also autonomous tug trains, automated outdoor logistics solutions and smart transport robots (STRs) that carry parts to the line-side. Made by the BMW Group subsidiary Idealworks, STRs are expected to more than double in number to over 200 by the end of 2022 as series production of the BMW 7 Series ramps up. “Thanks to flexible, automated solutions like this, we have become extremely efficient at managing the complexity and myriad part numbers we work with here at the plant,” said Schröder.

Green. Investing in sustainable production

The Green aspect of the BMW iFACTORY and sustainable production in Plant Dingolfing is realised by a range of measures. These include sourcing 100 percent green energy, re-using several hundred existing production robots in the bodyshop, and reducing the consumption of resources in the paintshop. Here, investments of over €50 million are currently being made in new cathodic dip lines and a dry separation system, which will save significant amounts of water and energy. In addition, the waste heat from the drying furnaces will no longer be used purely as process heat but also to generate electricity.

Other facets of sustainable production include energy-efficient systems, packaging planning, traffic logistics, recycling and water management. On-site transportation, for example, is carried out by electric truck. Also, Dingolfing currently has a recycling quota of more than 90 percent and an even higher re-use quota of more than 99 percent. In 2021, this sent total residual waste tumbling to just 580 grams per car produced. And when it comes to water, Dingolfing currently covers 40 percent of its needs by drawing on its own source, thereby helping to preserve the region’s drinking water supplies as well.

Digital. Automated quality control by cameras with AI

Intelligent digital solutions are used in all areas of production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, but especially in vehicle assembly – be it for virtual training, smart scanners, automated AI-based quality control or automated driving by freshly manufactured vehicles.

When it comes to AI, the BMW Group has proven its pioneering credentials with its AIQX (Artificial Intelligence Quality Next) project, which uses sensors and AI to automate quality processes. Smart camera systems and sensors embedded in the production lines record data for backend evaluation in real-time using algorithms and AI. Feedback is then sent directly to employees on the line, via their smart devices. AIQX can be used to determine variants, verify completeness and detect any anomalies that may have occurred during fitting. It is currently operating in 40 applications in production of the new BMW 7 Series.

The launch of the latest vehicle has also boosted the number of use cases of IPS-i. This digitalisation project uses an IT platform to converge data from a wide range of location systems and generate a digital twin in real-time of the assembly hall. From the use of smart scanners and screwdrivers to RFID-based verification of the allocation of parts to vehicles, the IPS-i platform provides the basis for locating and interconnecting every item – every vehicle, component and tool – involved in the production process. With the new BMW 7 Series, RFID-based component tracing alone has been extended to 45 different part families.

BMW 7 Series pilots automated driving within plant

Production of the new 7 Series also uses a digital innovation with major potential for assembly and outbound logistics in BMW Group plants and distribution centres: automated driving in-plant (‘automatisiertes Fahren im Werk’, AFW). As part of the digitalisation strategy, the AFW project will be piloted in Dingolfing from July and sees newly produced BMW 7 Series drive automatically along a 170-metre route from the first ignition and initial testing area in assembly to the finish area in the plant. The same method will be used to get vehicles from the end of the finish line to the dispatch area.

The AFW project was developed by the BMW Group and the two startups Seoul Robotics and Embotech, who provide the software and technology. Project manager Sascha Andree explained: “Automated driving within the plant is fundamentally different from autonomous driving for customers. It uses a completely different system. So instead of relying on the vehicle’s sensors, it uses an infrastructure outside the car to enable environment recognition and plan the vehicle’s movements.” The route through the logistics areas of the plant is fitted with sensors that use Seoul Robotics software to generate data for vehicle localisation and environment recognition. Further externally based drive-planning software, by Embotech, then steers, brakes, accelerates and parks the driverless vehicles by sending them the relevant commands.

AFW is expected to be piloted until 2023 and will initially be rolled out on other models at Plant Dingolfing as well.

Dingolfing – Home of the BMW 7 Series since 1977

Plant Dingolfing, in Lower Bavaria, has been the home of the flagship BMW 7 Series since 1977 and is now manufacturing the seventh generation. It is the BMW Group’s lead plant for large BMWs and has extensive expertise in production launches as well as decades of experience in the manufacture of premium vehicles for the luxury class. To date, Plant Dingolfing has manufactured a grand total of more than 11 million BMW cars, and a further production milestone is on the schedule this year: the two millionth BMW 7 Series.

BMW Group Plant Dingolfing – Key facts.

Plant Dingolfing is one of the BMW Group’s more than 30 production sites around the world and its largest in Europe. Every day around 1,600 BMW 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series and all-new, fully electric BMW iX vehicles roll off the production lines in car plant 02.40. In 2021, annual output totalled some 245,000 units.

The site currently employs approx. 17,000 people. It is also training about 850 apprentices for 15 professions, making it the largest training organisation in the BMW Group.

Dingolfing manufactures not only cars but also vehicle components, such as pressed parts and chassis and drive systems. Located in component plant 02.20 is the BMW Group’s Centre of Competence for E-Drive Production, which provides BMW vehicle plants around the world with electric motors and high-voltage batteries for plug-in hybrids as well as fully electric models. It is under constant development and currently employs over 2,300 people.

In addition, Dingolfing creates the bodies-in-white of all the Rolls-Royce models. It is also home to what’s known as the Dynamics Centre, a large storage and trans-shipment point and the centrepiece of central aftersales logistics at the BMW Group, supplying BMW and MINI trading organisations with original BMW and MINI parts and accessories.

BMW leidt het luxesegment naar een nieuw tijdperk dat zal worden gevormd door innovaties op het gebied van duurzaamheid en digitalisering. Met de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks creëert 's werelds meest succesvolle constructeur van premiumwagens toekomstgerichte manieren om te genieten van rijplezier, een onovertroffen comfort over lange afstand en een digitale topervaring. Centraal in deze herinterpretatie staat de BMW i7. De volledig elektrische luxeberline is een perfect geïntegreerd lid van de modellenfamilie en laat duidelijk zien hoe een exclusieve rijervaring en het ultieme gevoel van welzijn aan boord kunnen worden gecombineerd met een nooit aflatend engagement voor duurzaamheid.

De nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks integreert een moderne stijl die de essentie van het exterieur- en interieurdesign centraal stelt. De voorzijde van BMW-modellen in het luxesegment wordt gedomineerd door typische kenmerken van het merk, maar er blijft een duidelijk onderscheid bestaan tussen deze modellen en de andere modellen in het BMW-gamma. Innovatieve kenmerken zoals het BMW Theatre Screen, de multisensoriële voertuigervaring BMW iDrive met de nieuwste generatie van het BMW Operating System 8, het BMW Curved Display en de Manoeuvre Assistant voor automatisch parkeren en manoeuvreren onderstrepen het vooruitstrevende karakter van de luxeberline. 45 jaar na het debuut van de BMW 7 Reeks treedt de zevende modelgeneratie op als de meest geavanceerde en innovatieve wagen in het luxesegment. Tegelijk spreekt de nieuwe editie tot de verbeelding met een algemene designcoherentie die geen enkele concurrent evenaart. De BMW 7 Reeks is dan ook opnieuw een symbool van de innovatieve kracht van de BMW Group.

De wereldpremière van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks in april 2022 en de wereldwijde marktlancering in november 2022 zijn de belangrijkste mijlpalen in het huidige modellenoffensief van het merk in het luxesegment.

Marktspecifieke aandrijfsystemen, productielocatie met een rijke traditie.

De nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks werd volledig ontworpen voor bijzonder veeleisende doelgroepen in een geglobaliseerde markt. Dat komt ook tot uiting in een assortiment van marktspecifieke aandrijfsystemen met een exclusief aanbod voor China – de belangrijkste verkoopregio van het bedrijf – en een dieselmodel voor Europa.

De nieuwe generatie luxeberlines van BMW opent een heel nieuwe dimensie op het gebied van ruimte. In tegenstelling tot zijn voorgangers zal de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks wereldwijd exclusief verkrijgbaar zijn als model met lange wielbasis dat de ruimte achterin maximaliseert. Verschillende aspecten van zijn karakter worden bepaald door het gebruik van specifieke designkenmerken en aandrijfvarianten. De nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks omvat ook modellen van de merken BMW i en BMW M, die zijn talloze kenmerken – van elegant, modern en duurzaam tot expressief, sportief en dynamisch – duidelijk naar voren laten komen.

De nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks biedt nu voor het eerst een keuze uit verbrandingsmotoren, plug-in-hybridesystemen en een volledig elektrische aandrijving. De mate van diversiteit in het aandrijfsysteem is gebaseerd op een nieuw ontwikkelde flexibele voertuigarchitectuur en brengt een wereldwijde modelstrategie voor de nieuwe editie van de BMW 7 Reeks tot uitdrukking. Zo kan de BMW Group rekening houden met de individuele behoeften van een klant, infrastructuurfactoren en wettelijke voorschriften in alle relevante automarkten over de hele wereld. De marktintroductie in Europa zal in eerste instantie alleen de BMW i7 omvatten. In de VS, China en andere geselecteerde verkoopregio's zullen naast de volledig elektrische variant ook twee modellen op de markt worden aangeboden, die elk over een benzinemotor en 48V ‘mild hybrid’-technologie beschikken.

Plug-in-hybridevarianten van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks zullen naar verwachting vanaf begin 2023 op tal van markten volgen. Daartoe behoren het eerste BMW M model met een zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor en plug-in-hybride aandrijfsysteem. Net na de marktlancering zal in Europa een modelvariant met dieselmotor en 48V ‘mild hybrid’-technologie aan het gamma worden toegevoegd. Verdere varianten van de volledig elektrische BMW i7, waaronder de toekomstige topversie van de BMW i7 M70 xDrive, worden in een later stadium beschikbaar gesteld.

Zoals bij al zijn voorgangers het geval was, zal de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks worden gebouwd in de fabriek van de BMW Group in Dingolfing. De grootste productiefaciliteit van het bedrijf in Europa zal traditie en toekomst doen samensmelten en is ook het kenniscentrum van de BMW Group voor de productie van e-drive-componenten. Daar worden ook het sterk geïntegreerde elektrische aandrijfsysteem en de hoogspanningsaccu van de BMW i7 geproduceerd. Voertuigen met verbrandingsmotoren, plug-in-hybridesystemen en volledig elektrische aandrijfsystemen zullen van dezelfde productielijn in Dingolfing komen. Naast de volledig elektrische BMW iX en de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks worden hier ook onder meer de luxe sportwagen BMW 8 Reeks en de modellen van de BMW 5 Reeks geproduceerd.

Twee BMW M modellen op basis van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks.

De nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks zal wereldwijd worden uitgebreid met twee BMW M modellen met geëlektrificeerde aandrijfsystemen. De nieuwe BMW M760e xDrive (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 1.2 – 1.1 l/100 km [235.4 – 256.8 mpg imp]; gecombineerd elektriciteitsverbruik: 26.9 – 25.8 kWh/100 km; CO2-emissie: 28 – 25 g/km in de WLTP-cyclus; cijfers in NEDC-cyclus: –) heeft een vermogen van 420 kW/571 pk en een koppel van 800 Nm en debuteert al in de lente van 2023. Zijn elektromotor genereert een tijdelijke boost van zo’n extra 30 kW/40 pk wanneer bijzonder verkwikkende acceleraties vereist zijn. Een specifiek M design voor exterieur en interieur, waaronder een uitlaatsysteem gekenmerkt door de opvallende dubbele uitlaatpijpen met unieke geometrie, onderstreept de prestatiekenmerken van het BMW M model met plug-in-hybridetechnologie.

Het toekomstige vlaggenschip, de nieuwe BMW i7 M70 xDrive (elektriciteitsverbruik over de gemengde WLTP-cyclus: 26.4 – 21.2 kWh/100 km; CO2-emissie: 0 g/km; cijfers in NEDC-cyclus: – ), zal beschikken over een volledig elektrisch aandrijfsysteem met twee motoren – op de voor- en achteras – en zal later in 2023 beschikbaar zijn. Zijn aandrijfsysteem genereert een maximumvermogen van ruim 600 pk en een maximumkoppel van meer dan 1.000 Nm. Het krachtigste BMW-model ooit voor weggebruik sprint in minder dan 4,0 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u. (Alle cijfers voor vermogen, prestaties en energieverbruik voor de BMW i7 M70 xDrive zijn schattingen gebaseerd op de huidige ontwikkelingsfase van de wagen, inclusief tijdelijke boost.)

Unieke digitale belevenis met de nieuwe voertuigervaring BMW iDrive en het BMW Operating System 8.

Rijplezier, comfort over lange afstand en de gebruikservaring in de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks worden grotendeels bepaald door de nieuwste innovaties op het gebied van digitalisering. De nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks biedt klanten de nieuwe multisensoriële voertuigervaring BMW iDrive met de nieuwste generatie van het BMW Operating System 8. Met het volledig digitale BMW Curved Display, de innovatieve BMW Interaction Bar, de verbeterde mogelijkheden van de BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant – plus extra My Modes, de nieuwste versie van het BMW Head-Up Display en de voor het eerst beschikbare Augmented View-functie op het informatiedisplay achter het stuur – heeft de intuïtieve dialoog tussen bestuurder en wagen een nieuw niveau bereikt.

De passagiers achterin worden begroet door een uniek entertainmentaanbod in de vorm van het nieuwe BMW Theatre Screen, een panoramisch 31,3”-scherm in 32:9-formaat met 8K-resolutie dat zich naar beneden uitstrekt vanaf het dak en de tweede zetelrij omvormt tot een exclusieve privébioscoop op wielen. De bestuurder en voorpassagier kunnen ook voor het eerst video-on-demand streaming van YouTube gebruiken op het controlescherm. Een 5G-compatibel antennesysteem zorgt voor snelle connectiviteit in de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks.

Veiligheid opnieuw gedefinieerd: de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks in BMW Protection Vehicle specificatie.

Op basis van de nieuwe BMW 7 Serie wordt nu een zeer veilig voertuig ontwikkeld dat in de loop van 2023 aan het gamma wordt toegevoegd. Met zijn geïntegreerde beschermingsconcept, dat uniek is in het segment en volledig van nul werd ontwikkeld, voldoet de gepantserde modelvariant aan de speciale eisen van autoriteiten, vertegenwoordigers van staten en hooggeplaatste personen die speciale bescherming nodig hebben.

De ontwikkeling van de nieuwe uiterst veilige BMW 7 Reeks steunt op een innovatief beschermingsconcept ontwikkeld door de BMW Group. Dit biedt een zeer hoge mate van veiligheid in combinatie met het interieurcomfort, de rijdynamiek en het rijcomfort van de hele nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks. Geïntegreerde ontwikkeling en productie in een speciaal productieproces in de fabriek van de BMW Group in Dingolfing zal ervoor zorgen dat het uiterst beveiligde voertuig op basis van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks nieuwe normen stelt.

Munich. The BMW i7 (combined power consumption: 22.5 – 19.5 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; forecast based on the vehicle’s development status to date) is being developed with the aim of combining hallmark driving pleasure with a level of comfort that is in a class of its own. One key factor here is the acoustic properties. The level of well-being in the interior of the purely electrically powered luxury sedan is largely determined by the degree to which disturbing noises can be kept away from the occupants. There are a variety of potential noise sources to be taken into account here, so near-production prototypes of the BMW i7 – and indeed all other model variants of the future BMW 7 Series – undergo an extensive programme as part of their acoustic testing.

At the Research and Innovation Centre (FIZ) in Munich, test and development engineers check the full range of the vehicle’s sound emissions and immissions. Motor and rolling noise are analysed in detail, as are the aeroacoustics and vibration comfort, in order to fully determine the acoustic properties of the new luxury sedans. This also includes precise alignment of acoustic pedestrian protection and the motor sound emitted in the interior of the BMW i7 – the latter having been developed as part of BMW IconicSounds Electric, a collaborative venture between the BMW Group and Hollywood film music composer Hans Zimmer.

The driver of the BMW i7 has a choice: characteristic silence or BMW IconicSounds Electric developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.

The acoustic test benches at the new branch of the BMW Group’s Research and Innovation Centre FIZ North are specially designed to meet the requirements of electromobility and enable all driving situations to be simulated realistically. Here, any irritating noises registered by development engineers during test drives on the road can be recreated and selectively eliminated. Roller dynamometers with a unique quiescent level and interchangeable surface coverings enable the measurement and validation of drive acoustics and tyre noise on all road surfaces that are relevant to day-to-day traffic anywhere in the world.

The BMW i7 aspires to redefine the high standards of the luxury segment – and this very much applies to acoustic comfort as well. Great importance was attached to noiseless power delivery of the electric motor. Contributing factors here include acoustic optimisation of the electric drive units, a model-specific mount concept and a newly developed noise encapsulation for the electric motors. Taken together, these measures enable the BMW i7 to achieve effective acoustic decoupling across a wide frequency range, thereby ensuring maximum acoustic comfort in the interior in all driving situations. As a result, the driver of the purely electrically powered luxury sedan always has the choice of enjoying either the characteristic silence of the motor or the emotionally powerful BMW IconicSounds Electric developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.

Increased body rigidity at the front end and tyres with a foam absorber on the inside for integrated noise insulation likewise help raise the acoustic and vibration comfort of the new luxury sedans to an outstanding level.

Acoustic testing on the climatic test bench and in the wind tunnel.

In order to be able to test the effectiveness of all measures under extreme climatic conditions too, the development engineers at FIZ North use an acoustic climate test bench specially designed for this purpose. Here, all globally relevant conditions can be simulated and a wide variety of noise sources can be analysed and optimised such as the acoustics of the air conditioning and ventilation system throughout the entire vehicle – in particular at very low or very high temperatures.

In the same way as the motor and tyre rolling acoustics, ambient noise can also be selectively reduced. For this purpose, the aeroacoustics of the BMW i7 are perfected in the acoustic wind tunnel. Clear-cut body surfaces, flush-integrated door handles, aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors and an almost completely closed underbody not only contribute to the low air resistance of the luxury sedan, they also help create its excellent acoustics.

Innovative materials for optimised sound insulation.

In addition to the noise and vibrations emanating from the vehicle itself, it is primarily the noise sources from the outside that can impair the experience of comfort while driving. The new acoustic simulator at FIZ North enables the noise emitted in day-to-day traffic to be simulated under laboratory conditions – this includes the sounds made at road construction sites and by passing trucks, for example. Numerous loudspeakers are used to project these sounds onto the vehicle prototypes from all directions to test the effectiveness of the interior noise insulation.

Highly effective and also weight-optimised sound insulation is enabled by the use of innovative materials developed in conjunction with acoustic lightweight construction. One of the ways in which outstanding shielding of external and intrinsic noise is achieved is by means of sound absorbers incorporated in the pillar trim, seats, roof liner and rear shelf. Together with the comfort glazing, which prevents unwelcome noise from entering through the window panes, this adds the final touch of perfection to the customer experience. There are also fleece elements in the doors and on the sill and wheel arch trim which reduce rolling noise, thereby maximising the experience of comfort.

Intense testing of electromagnetic compatibility.

With their detailed analyses and precise optimisation, the development and test engineers seek to ensure that the new luxury sedans offer the best comfort experience ever realised in a BMW. This also includes an analysis of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In the so-called EMC absorber hall at the FIZ, prototypes of the new luxury sedans are exposed to powerful electromagnetic fields so as to test the susceptibility of their electrical systems to interference and see how they interact with the environment.

The test engineers are able to analyse the diagnostic results transmitted from the vehicle in real time via fibre optic cables. Steile bergwegen, hoge temperaturen: Het testen van de BMW i7 aandrijving onder extreme omstandigheden.

Het serie-ontwikkelingsproces voor 's werelds enige zuiver elektrisch aangedreven luxe berline gaat zijn laatste fase in nu hij wordt getest op slopende testcircuits over de hele wereld. Elektrische motoren, vierwielaandrijving en een hoogspanningsbatterij moeten bewijzen hoe betrouwbaar en goed presterend ze zijn onder maximale belasting.

München. Het serie-ontwikkelingsproces van de BMW i7 (gecombineerd stroomverbuik: 22,5 - 19,5 kWh/100 km volgens WLTP; CO2-uitstoot: 0 g/km; prognose op basis van de ontwikkelingsstatus van de auto tot nu toe) gaat zijn laatste fase in, waarbij de auto een veeleisend testprogramma ondergaat in extreme weg- en weersomstandigheden. Tijdens zogenaamde hot-region tests op circuits en openbare wegen over de hele wereld controleren de ontwikkelingsingenieurs vooral de prestaties en betrouwbaarheid van de elektrische motoren, de vierwielaandrijving en de hoogspanningsbatterij wanneer ze worden blootgesteld aan de maximale stress van hoge temperaturen, onverharde wegen, stof en grote hoogteverschillen. De weg naar serieproductie voert de prototypes van de BMW i7 over grindpaden in woestijnen, in de bergen en op een hele reeks uiterst dynamische routes. De BMW i7, 's werelds enige puur elektrisch aangedreven luxe sedan, zal in de loop van 2022 worden gepresenteerd, samen met andere modelvarianten van de nieuwe BMW 7 Serie.

De duurtest in de hete regio's van verschillende landen en continenten dient in het bijzonder om alle componenten van het elektrische aandrijfsysteem te testen en te waarborgen. De componenten van de vijfde generatie BMW eDrive technologie, ontwikkeld voor de BMW i7, demonstreren hun onbeperkte functionaliteit zelfs onder de meest ongunstige omstandigheden wanneer ze continu worden gebruikt bij extreem hoge buitentemperaturen, permanent zonlicht en droge omstandigheden.

Binnen een vastomlijnd testprogramma voor de prototypes worden belastingen gesimuleerd die overeenkomen met de uitdagingen waarmee een in serie geproduceerde auto gedurende een volledige productlevenscyclus wordt geconfronteerd. Ondersteund door gevoelige on-board meettechnologie registreren ervaren testingenieurs elke reactie van de elektromotoren, de hoogspanningsbatterij, de aandrijfcontrole en het geïntegreerde koelsysteem, alsook de oplaadtechnologie en het energiebeheer op weers- en weggerelateerde invloeden.

Het testprogramma, dat tienduizenden kilometers aflegt, omvat langeafstands- en hogesnelheidsritten, alsook stop-and-go-verkeer in verzengende hitte. Bovendien werden testsecties met bijzonder grote hoogteverschillen geselecteerd op de testlocaties in de hete regio. Op deze manier kan het temperatuurgedrag van de elektromotoren en de koppelregeling van de volledig elektrische BMW xDrive worden geanalyseerd tijdens een bijzonder dynamische en langdurige rit bergopwaarts. Om de belasting van het aandrijfsysteem verder te verhogen, omvat het testprogramma ook het rijden in de bergen in aanhangwagenmodus. Tegelijkertijd laat de hoogspanningsbatterij zien hoe hij in staat is om continu piekvermogen te leveren om de e-motoren te voeden. Als extreem scenario en als bijzondere uitdaging voor het energiebeheer en de vermogenselektronica wordt tijdens de test ook bergaf gereden met een hoogspanningsopslagsysteem dat bij de start al volledig is opgeladen en dus geen terugwinningsenergie meer kan opnemen.

De zware testprocedure voor hete gebieden wordt ook gebruikt om de prestaties van de airconditioning en andere boordelektronica en de temperatuurbestendigheid van de in het interieur gebruikte materialen aan een bijzonder zware test te onderwerpen. Dit alles om ervoor te zorgen dat 's werelds enige zuiver elektrisch aangedreven luxe berline in elke situatie een perfect geharmoniseerde en exclusieve rijervaring biedt.
