Munich. Autumn 2025 adds revised powertrains, new
features and practical details to the current BMW model range. The
entry-level models into the world of BMW M – the BMW M240i xDrive
Coupé as well as the corresponding models in the BMW 3 Series and 4
Series – will in future have more powerful and fuel-efficient petrol engines.

More power, reduced consumption for BMW M240i xDrive Coupé
and the entry-level models into the world of BMW M in the BMW 3
Series and BMW 4 Series.

Autumn 2025 will see both the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (WLTP combined
(EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.5 litres/100 km;
CO2 emissions 172 g/km; CO2 class F) and the
BMW M340i xDrive Touring (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption
7.9 litres/100 km; CO<sub>2</sub> emissions 181 g/km;
CO2 class G) fitted with a more powerful variant of the
3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. It now has an output
of 288 kW/392 hp, with the mild hybrid system contributing 9 kW/12
hp. The overall increase in power over the previous model is
13 kW/18 hp. Maximum torque has also increased by 40 Nm, to 540 Nm.

This revised powertrain will in future also be fitted in the BMW
M440i xDrive Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.7
litres/100 km; CO<sub>2</sub> emissions 175 g/km;
CO2 class F), the BMW M440i xDrive Convertible (WLTP
combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 7.7 litres/100 km;
CO2 emissions 176 g/km; CO2 class G) and the
BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé (WLTP combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption
7.8 litres/100 km; CO<sub>2</sub> emissions 179 g/km;
CO2 class G).

The output increase makes for even more dynamic performance in the
BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models mentioned above. It shaves 0.1
seconds off the time it takes each model to accelerate from 0 to 100
km/h. As a result, the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan can now perform this
sprint in just 4.3 seconds. The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (WLTP
combined (EnVKV): fuel consumption 8.0 litres/100 km;
CO2 emissions 183 g/km; CO2 class G) now also
comes fitted with this more powerful engine.

In addition to the output boost, all models benefit from a
significant increase in engine efficiency. As a result, the WLTP
fuel consumption of the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, for example, drops
from 8.8–8.7 litres/100 km to 8.0 litres/100 km.
CO2 emissions were likewise reduced, from the previous
200–199 g/km to 183 g/km (see table below for all fuel consumption
and emissions figures of the new powertrains).

New exterior colours for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé,
Adaptive LED headlights available for more BMW 4 Series models,
practical addition for the BMW 5 Series family.
From autumn 2025, an additional exterior colour will be
available as an option for all versions of the BMW 2 Series Gran
Coupé with the M Sport design or the M Sport package. Cape York
Green can be ordered for the first time in conjunction with these
trim levels.

Moreover, Adaptive LED Headlights are also available as an
individual option without the M Sport package Pro for the BMW 420i,
BMW 420d and BMW 420d xDrive.

In conjunction with Veganza and Merino upholstery, the
comprehensive standard equipment in the BMW X3 now also includes
rear headrests and side sections of the second row of seats in the
upholstery colour. This further enhances the premium appeal of the
BMW X3 interior.

All BMW 5 Series, BMW i5 and BMW M5 Sedan and Touring models will
in future offer a very handy feature. A coat hook on the B-pillar
trim, provided as standard, makes transporting jackets and coats
particularly easy.

Improvements related to BMW Connected Drive.
From autumn 2025, the Charging Guide in the Explore tab of the
My BMW app will offer relevant help on all aspects of charging –
e.g., “How do I charge?”, or “How do I optimise charging?” This
helps to make charging stops as convenient and efficient as possible.

BMW Maps charge-optimised route planning for all-electric vehicles
is now also available in BMW vehicles with Operating System 8 and
8.5 in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Singapore.

Munich. At the end of its anniversary year, BMW M
GmbH has once again achieved record results. Global sales of
performance and high-performance cars rose to 177,257 vehicles during
the 2022 financial year. This represents an increase of 8.4 per cent
compared to the previous year, despite the continuing challenging
conditions in the area of logistics and supply chains. The most
important single market in 2022 was again the USA, with the second
most important sales region again being the German domestic market,
followed by the UK.

“The enthusiasm of the M community for emotionally powerful
performance on the road and on the racetrack has carried us through
the entire anniversary year,” says Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of
the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. “This is also expressed in a
new sales record for BMW M automobiles, which gives us a positive
outlook for 2023.”

BMW i4 M50: the best-selling BMW M automobile drives locally
emission-free.
At the same time, 2022 marks BMW M GmbH's
successful start into the age of electric mobility. “The best-selling
BMW M automobile of 2022 is the all-electric BMW i4 M50,” says Timo
Resch, Head of Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “For us, this
is a clear signal that the unique M feeling has arrived in the world
of electrified vehicles.” The BMW i4 M50 is powered by an electric
motor on both the front and rear axles, which together generate a
maximum output of 400 kW/544 hp. The perfectly coordinated power
delivery of the two e-motors and independent suspension tuning ensure
an M-typical driving experience characterised by dynamics, agility and
precision, which proved to be a real crowd-puller right from the outset.

With the BMW iX M60*, a second all-electric performance car from BMW
M GmbH made a highly successful debut. During the course of 2023, BMW
M GmbH will continue its product offensive with, among other things,
the first electrified high-performance automobile, the BMW XM, and the
BMW i7 M70, a BMW M automobile based on the fully electric BMW i7. The
further transformation towards electric mobility has also already been
mapped out. In order to be able to include high-performance cars with
purely electric drive in the range in the future, BMW M GmbH will
intensify the corresponding concept testing in 2023. The focus will be
on an integrated driving dynamics control system and an electric M
xDrive all-wheel drive system with four electric motors, which will
ensure that the emotionally powerful M feeling reaches an even higher level.

Anniversary year with spectacular premieres, BMW M3 and BMW M4
remain on the road to success, fast-paced launch for the new BMW
M240i xDrive Coupe*.
The celebrations of the 50th
anniversary of BMW M GmbH were accompanied by debuts for numerous
spectacular new models. The broad spectrum of new releases ranged from
the second generation of the puristic BMW M2*, with its combination of
straight six-cylinder engine, 6-speed manual transmission and
rear-wheel drive, which evokes classic driving pleasure in a
high-performance automobile, to the extroverted BMW XM with its
480 kW/653 hp M HYBRID drive. The first BMW M3 Touring* also offers
completely new ways to experience M-typical performance. This
diversity creates ideal conditions for attracting additional target
groups and generating further growth in 2023.

The current increase in sales figures is also based on sales
successes in a wide range of vehicle segments. The high-performance
sports cars of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 series, which – including the new
BMW M3 Touring – are available in four body variants, in two
performance levels, with a choice of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed M
Steptronic transmission, as well as with rear-wheel drive or the
all-wheel drive system M xDrive, continued to enjoy particularly
widespread popularity in 2022. BMW M GmbH thus covers a wide range of
customer needs in this core segment.

With an exceptionally strong performance within their competitive
environment, the high-performance cars based on BMW X models also
contributed to BMW M GmbH's new sales record. The upcoming upgrade for
the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M models in spring 2023 will provide effective
impetus for a continuation of this success story.

The successful launch of the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupe in 2022
proved to be a highlight in the performance car segment. The new
edition of the compact two-door is powered by a 275 kW/374 hp
straight-six engine and is now also available with classic rear-wheel
drive. “The new sales record for BMW M Automobiles is based on our
successful presence in a broad range of vehicle segments,” says Timo
Resch. “With our wide-ranging product portfolio, we are also ideally
positioned for the future.”

Premiere at Daytona: the new BMW M3 CS* and the BMW M Hybrid V8.
In addition, BMW M GmbH fulfils the desire for particularly
concentrated racing characteristics with attractive special models –
as early as 2022 with the BMW M4 CSL* and soon with the new BMW M3 CS.

The BMW M3 CS will make its world debut on the last weekend of
January as part of the 24-hour race at Daytona. The tradition-steeped
competition in the US state of Florida is also the venue for BMW M
Motorsport's comeback to endurance racing. The new BMW M Hybrid V8
will compete there for the first time. 47 years after the Daytona
overall victory of the legendary BMW 3.0 CSL, the new LMDh prototype
is set to race for points in the IMSA GTP class of the WeatherTech
SportsCar Championship before also competing in the official FIA World
Endurance Championship at Le Mans and elsewhere in 2024.

The final phase of the development process and the subsequent test
drives on various race tracks were among the highlights of 2022 for
the BMW M GmbH motorsport department, while the all-important success
on the race track was the overall victory in the DTM drivers' and
teams' championships. South African Sheldon van der Linde and Team
Schubert Motorsport secured the title win in the prestigious touring
car championship in the very first season with the new BMW M4 GT3.

Munich. Just a few weeks after the market launch of
the new BMW X1, the fully electric model variant of the compact
Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) will also be released onto the road
for the first time in November 2022. Together with the BMW iX1
xDrive30 (power consumption combined according to WLTP:
19.0 - 16.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; data
according to NEDC: - ), two plug-in hybrid models and two further
variants of the new BMW X1 with conventional combustion engine drive
are also being launched.

With additional engines and new optional extras, BMW is also
increasing the efficiency and attractiveness of numerous other model
series for autumn 2022. These include new entry-level motors and
engines for the all-electric BMW i4 and the BMW 2 Series Active
Tourer, an innovation package for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2
Series Gran Coupé, as well as innovations in the field of
digitalisation for optimising driving pleasure, comfort and safety.

BMW X1 and BMW iX1: Consistent electrification in new diversity.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the brand's first all-wheel drive electric
vehicle in the premium compact segment. With this model, the BMW
Group is consistently continuing its model offensive in the field of
purely electric mobility and making locally emission-free driving
pleasure attractive to broad target groups. Two highly integrated
e-drive units on the front and rear axles generate a combined output
of 230 kW/313 hp, including a temporary boost. The torque generated
by the whole system is 494 Nm. The new BMW iX1 xDrive30 accelerates
from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Its range, determined in the
WLTP test cycle, is between 396 and 440 kilometres.

The consistent electrification of the drive portfolio also includes
the two plug-in hybrid models BMW X1 xDrive30e (fuel consumption
combined: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.9 - 14.7
kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 23 - 16 g/km
according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: and BMW X1 xDrive25e
(combined fuel consumption: 1.0 - 0.7/100 km; combined power
consumption: 16.8 - 14.6 kWh/100 km; combined
CO2 emissions: 22 - 15 g/km according to WLTP; data
according to NEDC: -) as well as two new combustion engine variants
with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The plug-in hybrid systems each
consist of a highly integrated e-drive unit acting on the rear
wheels and a 3-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels via
the 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch.
Fifth-generation lithium-ion high-voltage batteries arranged flat in
the vehicle floor with a usable energy content of 14.2 kWh and
optimised efficiency through intelligent energy management and
adaptive recuperation enable an electric range of 76 to 88
kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive30e and 77 to 92
kilometres according to WLTP for the BMW X1 xDrive25e.

The drive system of the new BMW X1 xDrive30e generates an output of
up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly delivered by the combustion engine with
up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 130 kW/177
hp). This means that the more powerful of the two plug-in hybrid
models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. With a
maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by the
combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric drive
with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new BMW
X1 xDrive25e takes the car from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Electrification also gives the combustion engines of the new BMW X1
sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 - 5.9 litres/100 km;
combined CO<sub>2</sub> emissions: 149 - 133 g/km according to WLTP;
data according to NEDC: - ) and the new BMW X1 xDrive20d (combined
fuel consumption: 5.4 - 4.8 litres/100 km; combined
CO2 emissions: 142 - 127 g/km according to WLTP; data
according to NEDC: - ) a higher level of efficiency and a
particularly sporty power delivery. Its 48-volt mild hybrid
technology consists of an electric motor integrated into the 7-speed
Steptronic transmission with dual clutch, which acts as a starter
generator and can both relieve and support the combustion engine. In
the BMW X1 sDrive20i it is combined with a 3-cylinder petrol engine.
This results in a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp (jointly generated
by the combustion engine with up to 115 kW/156 hp and the electric
drive with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and a maximum torque of 280 Nm
(jointly generated by the combustion engine with up to 240 Nm and
the electric drive with up to 55 Nm), taking the car from a
standstill to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. A 4-cylinder diesel engine
and mild hybrid technology give the BMW X1 xDrive20d a maximum
output of 120 kW/163 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine
with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19
hp) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (generated jointly by the
combustion engine with up to 360 Nm and the electric drive with up
to 55 Nm), enabling it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds.

BMW i4 eDrive35: New entry-level engine for the all-electric
Gran Coupé.

The BMW i4 model family will be joined by another member in
November 2022 as well. The BMW i4 eDrive35 (power consumption
combined according to WLTP: 18.7 - 15.8 kWh/100 km;
CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; data according to NEDC: - ) is the
new entry-level model in the all-electric Gran Coupé range in the
premium mid-size segment. The third model variant also features
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. A highly integrated drive
unit with 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm powers the
rear axle and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds.

The range of the BMW i4 eDrive35 in the statutory WLTP cycle is up
to 483 kilometres. Its high-quality standard equipment includes,
among other things, the latest-generation BMW iDrive developed on
the basis of BMW Operating System 8, including BMW Curved Display
and BMW Live Cockpit Plus including BMW Maps navigation system.

BMW 216i Active Tourer: New entry-level engine for the
compact all-rounder.

A new entry-level engine will also enrich the model range of the
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer in autumn 2022. The new BMW 216i Active
Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 – 6.2 litres/100 km; combined
CO2 emissions: 152 - 140 g/km according to WLTP; data
according to NEDC: - ) offers a particularly economical way to
experience the driving pleasure and versatility of the compact
all-rounder. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine
that generates a maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp and a maximum torque
of 230 Nm. The engine's power is delivered to the front wheels via a
7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard. The
new BMW 216i Active Tourer accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

New gear selector for the BMW iX3.

There is a substantial design modification regarding the interior
of the BMW iX3 (power consumption combined according to WLTP: 18.9 -
18.5 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; data according to
NEDC: - ). The all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle of the premium
mid-size class will be equipped with a redesigned gear selector on
the centre console from January 2023. This means that a control
element in the new, reduced interior design from BMW is also
available in this model selecting gears.

BMW M Laptimer now as a vehicle app - time measurement also
for BMW models with BMW Operating System 7.

Performance becomes measurable thanks to the BMW M Laptimer. The
function is now available in Europe, the USA and Canada as a vehicle
app in many current BMW models and BMW M automobiles. With the BMW M
Laptimer, lap times can be recorded while driving on the race track.
The total duration and track length of the ride, the number of laps,
the time for the fastest lap and the highest speed achieved are
displayed. The system recognises the start and finish line of a lap
using recurring GPS coordinates. The length of a measured lap can be
between one and 37 kilometres.

The BMW M Laptimer is available as a vehicle app in all models
equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and the Connected Package
Professional option. In the models of the BMW M3/BMW M4 series, the
M Laptimer App is part of the optional M Drive Professional
equipment. In these models, once the time measurement has been
activated, there is a widget in the instrument cluster that shows
the current and final lap time. In addition, the BMW Head-Up Display
shows both the current lap time and the difference to the fastest
lap so far during the course of a recording.

Innovations regarding the Digital Key and Digital Key Plus.

The optional BMW Digital Key and Digital Key Plus can now be shared
across platforms between users of iOS and Android devices, including
via e-mail or messenger service, for example. Until now, only the
Apple iPhone offered the Digital Key Plus, which uses
security-optimised ultra-wideband radio technology (UWB) to
automatically unlock the BMW iX and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
when you approach them and lock them when you move away. You can
simply keep the device in your pocket. From December 2022, this
convenient access method will also be possible with Android devices
that are equipped with a corresponding UWB chip and are enabled for
Digital Key Plus (initially Google Pixel Pro).

The Digital Key Plus also enables additional functions via the My
BMW app using UWB technology near vehicles with production dates
from November 2022 (an Apple iPhone with iOS 16 operating system is
required). The additional functions are displayed in the My BMW app
as soon as you approach the vehicle to within about six 6 metres.
These include the comfort open/close functions, known from the long
press on open/close with the physical vehicle key, as well as the
level control for vehicles with air suspension. In the BMW 7 Series,
the optional automatic doors can also be operated via the My BMW app
within the UWB range.

Continuous tyre pressure monitoring with notification in the
My BMW app, new Digital Art Mode in the BMW 7 Series, BMW iX, BMW
2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X1.

The digital tyre diagnosis system, which comes as standard in many
current BMW models, will include an additional function from
November 2022. The tyre pressure will be continuously monitored in
the future. For example, if a loss of pressure is registered in a
parked vehicle, the customer receives a notification via the My BMW
app. Continuous tyre pressure monitoring is available in the BMW 1
Series, BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 3 Series
and BMW 4 Series models, BMW 7 Series and BMW X7.

In the BMW 7 Series, the BMW iX, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and
the BMW X1, the driving experience, which can be customised with the
help of My Modes, will also be enriched with a unique artistic
experience from November 2022. The new Digital Art Mode will be
available for the first time. The exclusive digital work
"Quantum Garden" by Chinese multimedia artist Cao Fei is
shown on the vehicle displays.

New functions for the My BMW app.

With the latest update, the range of functions of the My BMW app
has been expanded to provide additional usage options. The app now
includes a first-mile function that shows customers the route to
their vehicle on their smartphone. In future, they will also be able
to search for contacts stored on their smartphone in the My BMW app,
call up ratings and pictures for so-called points of interest and
pay parking fees at a variety of locations. From autumn 2022, the My
BMW app will provide users of models with electrified drive systems
with specific information in the event of charging irregularities.
In future, all functions specially designed for electric mobility
can be found more easily via an entry point in the vehicle menu area.

The new "My Trips" function provides the customer with
trip data in the My BMW app. For example, information on the
distance travelled, average speed, fuel consumption and
CO2 emissions are listed. Drivers of models with
electrified drive systems are also informed about the proportion of
the route they have driven electrically.

The user interface for the vehicle menu area has also been updated.
If the vehicle's air conditioning is activated using the My BMW app,
this can be seen on the picture of the vehicle. Information about
customer support can be found in the Profile menu area under
"Contact us".

Munich. Raised efficiency, an even higher level of
individuality and further digitalisation will make the numerous
current BMW brand models even more attractive as of summer 2022. The
model range of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is being expanded
by two plug-in hybrid variants and a diesel model with intelligent
all-wheel BMW xDrive. Two additional drive variants each will be
offered for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the new BMW 4 Series Gran
Coupé from July 2022. Newly designed equipment packages make it
easier to select options for enhancing driving pleasure and comfort
in numerous model series.

The BMW Curved Display will be added to the standard equipment of
the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the new BMW M3 Sedan in summer 2022.
This means that the latest generation of the BMW iDrive
multi-sensory vehicle experience based on the BMW Operating System 8
has also found its way into both model series. Further progress in
the field of digitalisation is provided by additional functions for
the BMW Maps navigation system and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: Premiere for two plug-in hybrid
models and a new diesel engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has already been available with
a wide range of drives since it was first launched on the market
equipped combustion engines from the current BMW Group Efficient
Dynamics generation and the latest version of 48-volt mild hybrid
technology. In future, two plug-in hybrid variants of the compact
all-rounder will deliver additional efficiency and driving pleasure.
The hybrid systems of both models combine a 3-cylinder petrol engine
with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology which drives the front wheels
with an electric motor acting on the rear wheels. Like the
high-voltage battery located deep in the vehicle floor, this
electric motor originates from the fifth generation of BMW eDrive
technology. The resulting hybrid-specific all-wheel drive delivers a
very high level of sportiness, driving stability and traction in all
driving situations.

The drive of the new BMW 230e xDrive Active Tourer (fuel
consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6/100 km; combined power consumption:
15.9 – 14.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions:
18 - 14 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - )
generates an output of up to 240 kW/326 hp (jointly generated by the
combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric drive
with up to 130 kW/177 hp). This means that the more powerful of the
two plug-in hybrid models sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in
5.5 seconds. Its electric range is 82 to 93 kilometres according to WLTP.

With a maximum output of up to 180 kW/245 hp (jointly generated by
the combustion engine with up to 100 kW/136 hp and the electric
drive with up to 80 kW/109 hp), the plug-in hybrid system of the new
BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption combined:
0.8 – 0.6/100 km; combined power consumption:
15.8 – 14.2 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions:
18 - 14 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - )
accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. With values
between 83 and 92 kilometres according to WLTP, it also has a
significantly increased electric range compared to the previous
model generation. In addition, the maximum charging capacity has
been doubled when using a wallbox or public charging station. It is
now 7.4 kWh. This allows the high-voltage batteries of the two
plug-in hybrid models to be charged from zero to 100 percent of
their capacity within 2.5 hours.

The third new addition to the drive portfolio is a 2.0-litre
4-cylinder diesel engine combined with 48-volt mild hybrid
technology. The new BMW 223d xDrive Active Tourer (fuel consumption
combined: 5.1 – 4.6 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions:
133 - 121 g/km according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ),
delivers a maximum output of 155 kW/211 hp (generated jointly by the
combustion engine with up to 145 kW/197 hp and the electric drive
with up to 14 kW/19 hp) as well as a maximum torque of 400 Nm
(generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 400 Nm and
the electric drive with up to 55 Nm). The electric motor of the mild
hybrid system is integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission
with double clutch and functions as a crankshaft starter generator.
The power of the drive system is transmitted to the road via BMW
xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. The BMW 223d xDrive Active
Tourer takes 7.3 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h.

BMW 2 Series Coupé: Two new drive variants, BMW Curved
Display and shifter paddles on the steering wheel now standard.

A new entry-level engine and another BMW Performance automobile
from BMW M GmbH enrich the model range for the new BMW 2 Series
Coupé. A particularly economical way to experience the distinct
driving pleasure of the compact two-door is offered by the new BMW
218 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.5 litres/100 km;
combined CO<sub>2</sub> emissions: 160 - 146 g/km according to WLTP;
data according to NEDC: - ), which is powered by a 2.0-litre
4-cylinder petrol engine generating a peak output of 115 kW/156 hp
and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The power is transmitted to the rear
wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The new BMW 218i
Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

The second new model ranges at the highest level of the performance
spectrum. The BMW M240i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.5 – 7.8
litres/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 192 - 177 g/km
according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) embodies the purist
form of driving dynamics typical of the brand in a model of the
premium compact segment. A 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol
engine is now also combined with classic rear-wheel drive in this
model series. An 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and an M
Sport differential in the final drive are also involved in
transferring power to the road. This means that the new BMW M240i
Coupé reaches the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in 4.7 seconds.

For spontaneous manual intervention in gear selection, the new BMW
M automobile features shift paddles on the steering wheel. From
summer 2022, these paddles will also be part of the equipment
package of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which is standard on
all 4-cylinder models of the BMW 2 Series Coupé. The range's
powertrain portfolio now includes three 4-cylinder petrol engines
and one 4-cylinder diesel engine, as well as the 3.0-litre inline
6-cylinder power unit, which now delivers fascinating performance in
conjunction with both all-wheel and rear-wheel drive.

Hallmark BMW driver orientation in the cockpit of the BMW 2 Series
Coupé has also been rethought. All model variants of the two-door
model will be equipped with a BMW Curved Display as standard from
July 2022. It consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a
Control Display with touch function and a screen diagonal of 14.9
inches. This provides a fully digital and high-resolution display
network behind a common glass surface curved towards the driver.
With the BMW Curved Display and the enhanced capabilities of the BMW
Intelligent Personal Assistant, the user experience in the BMW 2
Series Coupé is now also consistently oriented towards touch and
voice control.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé: Sales launch for two more models
with inline 6-cylinder engine.

A new BMW M automobile with traditional performance characteristics
will also join the model range in the BMW 4 Series in summer 2022.
The BMW M440i Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.6
litres/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 185 - 172 g/km
according to WLTP; data according to NEDC: - ) will thrill drivers
with its combination of an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 275
kW/374 hp and mild hybrid technology, an 8-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission, classic rear-wheel drive and an M Sport differential.
The extremely sporty version of the four-door coupé in the premium
mid-size class sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.

In addition, an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine will also be
available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé in future. The 3.0 litre
drive unit for the new BMW 430d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel
consumption: 6.0 – 5.5 litres/100 km; combined
CO2 emissions: 158 - 145 g/km according to WLTP; data
according to NEDC: - ) generates a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp
and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. In this model, too, 48-volt mild
hybrid technology enhances both efficiency and spontaneous power
delivery. The impressive pulling power of the drive, the 8-speed
Steptronic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel drive together
enable acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

For all BMW M automobiles of the BMW 4 Series as well as for the
all-electric BMW i4 M50 (power consumption combined: 22.5 kWh– 18.0
kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; data
according to NEDC: - ), an M Sport Package Pro is available from
July 2022, including an extended M High Gloss Shadow Line, M Shadow
Line lights, an M sports brake system with red brake callipers and M
seat belts. In addition, the range of paint finishes for the BMW 4
Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible is supplemented by the
Skyscraper Grey metallic variant.

New options for BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, BMW
X5 and BMW X6, BMW Z4 with extended standard equipment.

An M Sport Package Pro will also be available in future for the BMW
5 Series Sedan, BMW 5 Series Touring and BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo.
It is offered as a supplement to the respective model-specific M
sports package and includes paddle shifters on the steering wheel
for the entry-level models of the BMW 5 Series and an 8-speed
Steptronic Sport transmission for all other models, as well as an
extended M high-gloss Shadow Line, an M sports brake system with red
brake callipers and M seat belts. The BMW 5 Series models also
receive the M Shadow Line lights, while the BMW 5 Series Sedan also
features a black M rear spoiler. New to the range of paint finishes
is the Skyscraper Grey metallic variant, while the new Arctic Race
Blue metallic paint finish is also available for the BMW 5 Series.

The models in the BMW X5 and BMW X6 series will feature Sensafin
decor-quilted interior trim as standard from summer 2022. The newly
developed surfaces are available in five colour variants and have
leather-like properties as well as a further refined look and feel.

Extended standard equipment makes the BMW Z4 even more appealing.
The Roadster now already features the BMW Live Cockpit Professional
as standard. It includes a fully digital instrument cluster and a
Control Display with a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches each, as well
as the Connected Package Professional.

BMW Curved Display and Innovation Package for the BMW M3
Sedan, M Graphics for the BMW M4 Coupé.

BMW Operating System 8 and the latest generation of BMW iDrive,
including BMW Curved Display, will also be standard equipment for
BMW M3 Sedan models from July 2022. The four-door high-performance
sports car can also be optionally equipped with an Innovation
Package, a Wireless Charging Tray for suitable smartphones, a
Personal eSim, an instrument panel in Sensatec finish and M interior
trims in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite. The BMW Individual paint
finish Frozen Pure Grey metallic is also available as a new colour.

A further way of highlighting the performance character of the BMW
M4 Coupé models even more intensively is provided by the new M
graphics for the engine compartment and luggage compartment lides.
The contour lines in high-gloss black and the BMW M GmbH brand logo
on the engine compartment give the exterior of the vehicles a
particularly expressive touch.

BMW Maps navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant with extended functions.

Driving pleasure and comfort are enhanced in all models already
equipped with BMW Operating System 8 thanks to new digital services.
As of summer 2022, both the BMW Maps navigation system and the BMW
Intelligent Personal Assistant will feature new functions and
enhanced capabilities. In addition to new map displays, the
navigation system provides information about special sights and
features along the route travelled on frequently used routes even
when route guidance is not activated. When using the eDrive Zone
function, it will in future be possible to differentiate between
conventional environmental zones and completely emission-free areas
within an urban area in the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3
Series and the BMW X5. In future, an advanced charging software for
purely electrically powered models will enable the user to store
charging profiles for frequently used power sources and manually
launchable preconditioning of the high-voltage battery in
preparation for the use of a DC fast charging station.

In the cockpit of BMW M cars, the BMW Operating System 8 will
feature an M specific user interface in future. In the BMW iX and
the BMW i4, the additional Augmented View display, which can be used
with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, is also shown in the Information Display.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, in conjunction with the BMW
Operating System 8, will feature even more advanced capabilities as
of summer 2022. The digital companion and vehicle expert can
proactively make contextual suggestions to the driver on how to use
functions. In future, these will also relate to Active Cruise
Control with Stop & Go function, Parking Assistant, the eDrive
Zone service and the option to test additional functions from the
BMW ConnectedDrive Store. In addition, the BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant provides the driver with explanations of numerous other
functions of his vehicle that he has not used so far.

Faster, more precise, more efficient: The first fully
electric BMW xDrive system in the BMW iX and the BMW i4 M50.

Two engines, four driven wheels and a globally unique drive torque
control system ensure optimal traction, driving stability and
dynamics in every situation.

Munich. More than 35 years ago, all-wheel drive
provided a new form of driving pleasure for the first time in a BMW,
and the intelligent distribution of power between the front and rear
axles has been known as BMW xDrive for almost two decades. The
fascination of four driven wheels now reaches an additional,
particularly sustainable dimension. The first fully electric BMW
xDrive system can now be experienced on the road. It makes its debut
in the BMW iX and the BMW i4 M50 (combined power consumption:
22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; combined
CO2 emissions: 0 g/km).

Like all BMW iX vehicle types, the fully electric Gran Coupé from
BMW M GmbH is powered by an engine on both the front and rear axles.
This creates an axle-parallel all-wheel drive without a mechanical
connection between the front and rear wheels. The interaction of the
two engines is optimised by an innovative and globally unique drive
torque control system. The electric BMW xDrive system thus ensures
the ideal form of power transmission in every driving situation –
combined with a typical BMW driving experience.

Intelligent networking of driving stability control, actuator
contiguous wheel slip limitation and drive control.

The fully electric BMW xDrive system makes it possible to transform
outstanding drive power, expressed for example in the BMW i4 M50
with a system output of up to 400 kW/544 hp and a maximum torque of
795 Nm, into superior driving dynamics. This requires precise
distribution of the drive torque. This is ensured by linking the DSC
(driving stability control) system with the all-wheel drive-specific
version of the actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation and the
Combined Charging Unit (CCU), whose highly integrated range of
functions for the first time includes both charging and drive electronics.

The intelligent networking of all systems makes it possible to
distribute the drive torque requested by the driver between the two
engines in such a way that traction and driving stability, dynamics
and efficiency are guaranteed to an optimum extent in the respective
driving situation. DSC defines the general conditions under which
the electric BMW xDrive system can operate. It permanently analyses
the vehicle's wheel speeds, steering angle, driving speed,
longitudinal and lateral acceleration and yaw rate. Based on these
parameters, a speed corridor is determined in which the two drive
units may be active to ensure a stable driving condition. The My
Mode selected by the driver and whether the DTC (Dynamic Traction
Control) is activated are also taken into account. This mode is a
special DSC mode in which, in interaction with actuator contiguous
wheel slip limitation and other control functions, an even sportier
driving style is possible on normal surfaces without interventions,
among other things through increased intervention thresholds. In
addition, a maximum drive is achieved on loose ground such as snow,
sand or gravel.

From the data supplied by DSC and the drive torque requested by the
driver, the CCU calculates the ideal distribution between front and
rear-wheel drive. The fully electric xDrive system can react
noticeably faster and with significantly higher control quality to
any change in driving situation than would be possible with a
transfer box between the axles familiar from BMW models with
combustion engines.

The drive control of the CCU, actuator contiguous wheel slip
limitation and the driving stability control system interact
flexibly and precisely. If required, the data supplied by DSC about
the driving situation can already proactively include an all-wheel
drive request. In many driving situations, a change in the
distribution of drive torque between the front and rear engines
alone can increase driving stability without requiring any further
intervention. If one wheel threatens to lose grip with the road
surface, actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation with its
particularly fast and precise reactions comes into play first. Only
in critical situations does DSC also assist with wheel-specific
braking interventions.

Optimal traction, perfect directional stability, maximum efficiency.

During driving off and accelerating, the desired drive torque is
distributed between both engines by the CCU to provide optimised
traction. In addition to the road friction values and the driver's
choice, the electric BMW xDrive and actuator contiguous wheel slip
limitation also take into account environmental parameters such as
wind, uphill or downhill gradients, the vehicle settings of the My
Modes and the DTC, as well as the dynamic axle-load distribution,
which provides more weight and better power transmission to the rear
axle during acceleration. Due to the direct integration of actuator
contiguous wheel slip limitation into the drive torque control
system of the CCU, long signal paths to the driving stability
control system are eliminated, meaning that interventions can be
performed at a speed that is up to 10 times higher and in a
particularly precise dosage. This ensures unwavering directional
stability of the vehicle even during extremely dynamic acceleration manoeuvres.

When the accelerator pedal is pressed moderately, a continuously
higher proportion of drive torque is provided by the rear electric
drive unit as the speed increases. In phases of constant driving,
the drive is finally provided solely by the engine acting on the
rear wheels. This creates the traditional BMW driving experience. At
the same time, the efficiency of the drive system and, with it, the
range of the vehicle is optimised.

Full all-wheel drive functionality is available at all times. For
example, even when driving in My Mode Efficient, any spontaneous
load demand is immediately met with a significant increase in drive
torque on the front axle. When cornering dynamically, on the other
hand, the proportion of rear-wheel drive is increased. The front
wheels can therefore absorb higher cornering forces due to the
reduced drive torque. In this way, the vehicle's driving stability
and agility are increased in equal measure. Depending on the driving
situation, the fully variable electric BMW xDrive system can
implement any form of power transmission: traction-optimised
all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution as well as pure
front or rear-wheel drive.

Precisely controlled energy recovery optimises driving stability
and efficiency.

In coasting and braking phases, both engines can feed energy back
into the high-voltage battery by means of a generator function. This
makes a significantly higher recuperation performance possible than
just one motor. The fully electric BMW xDrive system also makes it
possible to control these energy recovery processes in such a way as
to ensure maximum driving stability and efficiency at all times. The
system is designed so that the more powerful engine on the rear axle
also takes on the main role in recovering energy. In curves and in
adverse road conditions, on the other hand, a higher proportion of
energy recovery performance is provided by the front engine.

Just like the drive torque, the energy recovery torque can also be
divided quickly and precisely between the two engines. In addition,
the intelligently networked drive torque control system ensures that
a stable driving condition is also guaranteed during deceleration
processes. The slip control set by DSC helps to prevent unstable
driving conditions caused by excessive braking recovery. The
transition from deceleration through recovery to the intervention of
the hydraulic braking system is not perceptible to the driver. The
integrated braking system also contributes to this, providing a
constant pedal feel at all times.

The figures for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, power
consumption and range are measured using the methods required
according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. These figures
refer to vehicles on the automotive market in Germany. For span
widths, the specifications take into account the effects of any
optional equipment.

All values were calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. WLTP
values are taken as the basis for determining vehicle-related taxes
or other duties based (at least inter alia) on
CO2 emissions as well as eligibility for any applicable
vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC
measurement procedures can also be found at www.bmw.de/wltp.

the official specific CO2 emissions of new passenger cars
can be obtained from the "Guideline on fuel consumption,
CO2 emissions and power consumption of new passenger

models, provide added comfort. In addition, the range of body
finishes, upholstery variants and light-alloy wheels for the BMW 4
Series Gran Coupé, the BMW i4, the BMW iX and the BMW M5 (fuel
consumption combined: 11.3 – 11.1 l/100 km; combined
CO2 emissions: 259 – 253 g/km according to WLTP) receives
further variants. To mark the 50th anniversary of BMW M GmbH,
particularly striking "BMW Motorsport" emblems are
optionally available for BMW M automobiles in conjunction with an M
sports package.

Additional engine variant for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Sheer driving pleasure in the BMW 2 Series Coupé can be experienced
in a further variant from March 2022. The fourth engine option for
the dynamic two-door model is a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine
with an output of 180 kW/245 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The
new drive unit will feature in the BMW 230i Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 7.2 – 6.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions:
163 – 149 g/km according to WLTP) with classic rear-wheel drive.
Power delivery and emissions behaviour have been optimised by an
exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and an advanced
turbocharging system for the BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

The new engine is combined with an 8-speed Steptronic sports
transmission as standard. The range of equipment and functions
includes gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and Launch Control,
which enables the new BMW 230i Coupé to accelerate from a standstill
to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Among other things, an M sports
differential in the final drive is available as an option for the
new model variant.

New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer now also with BMW xDrive,
additional body finishes and optimised Driving Assistant Plus.

Versatile functionality, hallmark driving pleasure and distinctive
dynamic design characterise the second generation of the BMW 2
Series Active Tourer, which will also be available with intelligent
all-wheel drive from March 2022. The new BMW 223i xDrive Active
Tourer (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.5 l/100 km;
CO2 emissions: 160 – 148 g/km according to WLTP) is the
fifth model variant of the modern all-rounder in the premium compact
segment. Its BMW xDrive system transfers the power of a 4-cylinder
petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology to all four wheels
as required. The drive of the new BMW 223i xDrive Active Tourer
delivers 160 kW/218 hp, generated jointly by its combustion engine
with up to 150 kW/204 hp and the electric drive with up to 14 kW/19
hp. The electric auxiliary drive contributes to a particularly
spontaneous accelerating response. The new model variant sprints
from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The new Piedmont Red metallic body finish will also be available
from March 2022 for the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. In addition,
the range of functions of the optionally available Driving Assistant
Plus has been expanded to include Steering and Lane Guidance Assist.
At speeds of up to 180 km/h, the system uses corrective steering
interventions to help the driver keep the new BMW 2 Series Active
Tourer in the centre of the lane. The steering assistance also
ensures that a suitable distance to lane markings and vehicles on
the adjacent lane is maintained when driving through narrow spaces,
for example at motorway construction sites. In addition, Driving
Assistant Plus includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go
function, including automatic Speed Limit Assist. This is based on
the Speed Limit Info system with anticipatory display of speed
limits and overtaking bans.

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function now also
available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4.

The range of optionally available driver assistance systems will
also be extended for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 models as of spring 2022.
Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will be available
for the Sports Activity Vehicle and the Sports Activity Coupé in the
premium mid-size class from April 2022.

Unlike the already standard cruise control with braking function,
it not only keeps the desired speed between 30 and 160 km/h
constant, but also the distance to vehicles ahead, which can be
selected by the driver in four stages. Distance control is carried
out by means of a radar sensor integrated into the front bumper and,
if necessary, makes the vehicle decelerate to a standstill. The
range of functions also includes automatic restarting after short
intermediate stops of up to three seconds. In addition, the system
offers the driver the option of adopting speed limits registered by
the Systems Speed Limit Info traffic sign recognition system as the
new desired speed at the touch of a button.

New BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé with further all-wheel-drive variant.

The model range for the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé will include a
further variant as of spring 2022. The BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupé
(fuel consumption combined: 7.9 – 7.1 l/100 km;
CO2 emissions: 180 – 162 g/km according to WLTP) is the
third model in the range in which intelligent all-wheel drive
delivers particularly superior power transmission. The BMW xDrive
system distributes the power generated by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder
engine with an output of 180 kW/245 hp and a maximum torque of 400
Nm to all four wheels as required.

The standard equipment of the new BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupé also
includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This combination of
engine, transmission and all-wheel drive enables acceleration from
zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

New equipment options for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and
the BMW i4.

In addition to the new drive variant, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé
will also offer numerous additional options for customising the
exterior and interior from March 2022. These are also available for
the all-electric BMW i4 and include new body finishes and leather
trims as well as an M Carbon exterior package.

kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) for
which the M Carbon exterior package was exclusively reserved so far,
will also be available for all other model variants of the BMW i4
and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé from March 2022, also in conjunction
with the M Sport model. It includes surrounds for the air curtains
in the front apron, exterior mirror caps, a rear spoiler and
diffuser insert trims made of the equally light and striking
carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic.

In the interior of the BMW i4 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé,
customers can select particularly high-quality features with the
extended BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in the colour
variants Black, Ivory White, Tartufo, Fjord Blue/Black and Fiona
Red/Black. For an even more exclusive ambience, the BMW Individual
full leather Merino interior, available in the same colours, also
includes leather upholstery on the instrument panel. In addition,
individual interior design preferences can also be fulfilled from
March 2022 onwards thanks to special upholstery from the BMW

Parking Assistant Professional premieres in the BMW iX.

The BMW iX underpins its status as a technology flagship with the
premiere of a new and unique system for automated parking. Available
from March 2022 for all model variants, Parking Assistant
Professional enables particularly convenient parking in automated
driving mode.

Using GPS and trajectory data defined by steering movements, the
system can store various manoeuvres with a route length of up to 200
metres each. When arriving again at the respective starting point,
Parking Assistant Professional can then take over the complete
driving task including accelerating, braking, steering and changing
between forward and reverse gear. The driver can concentrate on
monitoring the surroundings during the automated manoeuvre.

The BMW Individual paint finish Oxid Grey metallic and 22-inch M
aerodynamic wheels in Bicolour Titanium Bronze with 3D gloss finish
are new to the equipment range for all model variants of the BMW iX.

My BMW App with new functions for convenient charging.

The My BMW App is the universal interface for communication between
the driver, the vehicle, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. In spring
2022, its range of functions will be expanded to include digital
services from BMW Charging for convenient electric mobility. This
makes it even easier for drivers of a BMW model with purely electric
or plug-in hybrid drive to find and select public charging stations.
The My BMW app shows charging stations and their availability on a
map section.

In addition, the My BMW app also makes it easier to use public
charging points. Drivers of a BMW iX or a BMW i4 can now start
charging the high-voltage battery by scanning a QR code or with just
one operating step in the My BMW app.

Individual dynamics: New body finishes for the BMW M5,
classic emblems to mark the anniversary of BMW M GmbH.

New and particularly expressive paint finishes will be available
for the BMW M5 high-performance sedan as of spring 2022. The
exterior of the high-performance model can now also be given an
individual look with the body finishes Sophisto Grey Brilliant
Effect metallic, San Remo Green metallic and Skyscraper Grey
metallic as well as with the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Deep
Grey metallic.

A historic logo also makes a comeback in the BMW M GmbH anniversary
year. The classic "BMW Motorsport" emblems for the engine
compartment lid, tailgate and wheel hub covers are available on
request for all of the brand's performance and high-performance
sports cars, as well as for BMW models delivered as an M Sport model
or with an M sports package. Their design is based on the logo in
the colours blue, purple and red, which was first used in 1973 on
the racing cars of BMW Motorsport GmbH, which had been established
the year before. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, BMW M GmbH
is offering its customers the opportunity to express their passion
for racing and their sense of tradition with these historic emblems.

Munich. For the third time in a row, BMW M GmbH ended
the financial year as the global market leader in the performance and
high-performance car segment. Indeed, the company posted record sales
once again in 2021. A total of 163,542 BMW M cars were delivered to
customers worldwide last year, a 13 percent increase on 2020.

This growth was spread equally between the High-Performance sports
cars and Performance cars made by BMW M GmbH, with both product
categories raising their sales figures to a new level. “This success
is the perfect start to our anniversary year,” says Franciscus van
Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “M is in a stronger position than ever as it
celebrates its 50th birthday.”

New BMW M3 and new BMW M4 enjoy immediate success.

The biggest drivers of growth among the High-Performance sports cars
were the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 models introduced in spring 2021.
Fuelled by a vehicle concept focused squarely on emotionally charged
dynamism and unprecedented diversity in the model range, the new BMW
M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.0 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.3
mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 231 – 227 g/km as per
WLTP), new BMW M4 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100
km [28.0 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined:
230 – 226 g/km as per WLTP) and new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel
consumption combined: 10.2 l/100 km [27.7 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 233 – 231 g/km as per WLTP) got off
to an extremely successful start. The latest model generation is the
first to offer customers two output levels topping out at
375 kW/510 hp, the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of
either a six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

“The response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been
simply overwhelming,” reports Timo Resch, Vice President Customer,
Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “We can therefore expect demand for
these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022.”

Also making a powerful contribution to the latest rise in
High-Performance model sales at BMW M GmbH were the BMW X5 M
Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.6 – 13.3 l/100 km [20.8
– 21,2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 308 – 303 g/km as
per WLTP) and BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined:
13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km [21.1 – 21.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions
combined: 305 – 299 g/km as per WLTP). Following the successful market
launch of the latest model generation the previous year, the
charismatic High-Performance sports cars in the Sports Activity
Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segment – both powered by a 460
kW/625 hp V8 engine – increased their sales figures once again in 2021.

Alluring and in demand: the BMW M models in the BMW 4 Series range.

The dynamic excellence, agility and precision for which M is renowned
also enabled the brand’s Performance models to delight and excite a
wide range of customers over the past year. Credit for the latest
boost to sales goes above all to the M models based on the new BMW 4
Series. Particularly popular were the variants of the new BMW 4 Series
Coupé, whose line-up consists of the BMW M440i Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 8.1 – 7.4 l/100 km [34.8 – 38.2 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 184 – 167 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW
M440i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.5 l/100 km
[34.5 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined:
186 – 170 g/km as per WLTP) powered by a 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder
in-line petrol engine, and the BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (fuel
consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km [44.8 – 49.6 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 165 – 150 g/km as per WLTP), whose
six-cylinder in-line diesel unit produces 250 kW/340 hp.

The latest BMW X models within the ranks of M’s Performance cars also
proved extremely desirable. Indeed, the BMW X3 M40i powered by a
six-cylinder in-line engine with 265 kW/360 hp (fuel consumption
combined: 9.5 – 8.8 l/100 km [29.7 – 32.1 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 216 – 199 g/km as per WLTP) and the
BMW X7 M50i (fuel consumption combined: 12.8 – 12.3 l/100 km [22.1 –
23.0 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 292 – 280 g/km as
per WLTP) with its 390 kW/530 hp V8 unit both posted an increase in
new registrations.

Looking ahead to an anniversary year brimming with highlights.

BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive in this anniversary
year with the addition of new High-Performance and Performance models.
Highlights include the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) and the
arrival later in the year of the first BMW M3 Touring and an exclusive
special-edition model based on the new BMW M4 Coupé.

In addition, the BMW Group subsidiary – which was founded as BMW
Motorsport GmbH in May 1972 and enjoys the status of an independent
manufacturer – will also drive the transformation to electric
mobility. Following in the tyre tracks of the BMW i4 M50 (electric
power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km as per WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km) in the first half of 2022
will be the likewise fully electric BMW iX M60 (projected electric
power consumption combined: 24.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km as per WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The most powerful BMW M model ever made points the way to the
future of the brand.

The anniversary year will be crowned by the start of production of
the BMW XM. The most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series
production is also the brand’s first High-Performance model to employ
a plug-in hybrid drive system. Its newly developed M Hybrid technology
brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to
develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm
(737 lb-ft). The design of the BMW XM majors on presence and extrovert
appeal and in so doing sends out a clear statement in the luxury segment.

“Our first standalone model since the legendary BMW M1 represents a
complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says van
Meel. “The BMW XM blends expressive design and progressive interior
luxury with an incomparable driving experience that serves up both
sublime performance and the ability to glide along in near silence in
all-electric mode. In so doing, it provides an inimitable expression
of poise and assurance, and at the same time points the way to the
future of our brand.”

Press Contact: Jeroen Lissens
Tel: +32-3-890-9708
e-mailadres: jeroen.lissens@bmw.be

Press Release,M3,X3,M4,BMW i,Sales & Finance,4 Series,X5 M,X6 M,G07,X7,G01,G26,iX,F97,X3 M,i20,G80,F95,F96,i4 M50,M240

in Regensburg and Leipzig,” explained Dr Michael Nikolaides, Senior
Vice President, Production Engines and E-Drives, BMW Group.

The BMW Group is investing more than 500 million euros in
expanding production capacity for e-drives at its Dingolfing
location alone between 2020 and 2022. From 2022, it will produce
e-drives for more than half a million electrified vehicles. The BMW
Group will invest a total of around 790 million euros in expanding
capacity for electric powertrain components at its Dingolfing,
Leipzig, Regensburg and Steyr locations between 2020 and 2022.

Standard production of the BMW iX* will soon get underway
at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, followed by production of the BMW i4
at Plant Munich in the autumn. The highly integrated e-drives and
high-voltage batteries for these vehicles will all be manufactured
at the Competence Centre for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing. The
BMW Group already began producing battery components at Plants
Regensburg and Leipzig in April and May 2021. In line with growing
demand for e-drives, BMW Group Plants Landshut and Steyr are also
stepping up production of e-drive housings.

Production of fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology

The output and energy content of drive units and
high-voltage batteries with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology
can be flexibly scaled. This means they can be optimally adjusted to
suit different model variants.

Each vehicle uses up to two highly integrated e-drives,
which combine the electric motor, power electronics and transmission
in a single housing. Based on the design principle of a
current-excited rotor, the fifth-generation e-drive does not require
any materials classified as rare-earth metals.

BMW eDrive technology also comprises a high-voltage
battery with state-of-the-art battery cell technology. The BMW Group
agreed with its suppliers that they will only use renewable green
power for producing fifth-generation battery cells. The entire
high-voltage battery boasts outstanding qualities in the areas of
performance, charging and discharging characteristics, durability
and safety. The technically standardised production process for
battery modules has been further developed in such a way that
different module variants can be produced on the same production
line – in line with the growing range of electrified vehicle models
and performance levels. The production systems are highly flexible
and scalable. Battery modules are produced from supplied prismatic
battery cells at the respective BMW Group production location. A
modular system developed in-house allows model-specific high-voltage
batteries to be manufactured from these modules in a flexible arrangement.

The company has outstanding expertise and experience, both
in the field of battery cell technology and in production of
model-specific high-voltage batteries. The BMW Group conducts basic
research in the fields of cell chemistry and cell design at its own
Battery Cell Competence Centre. The BMW Group also produces battery
cell prototypes itself. These battery cell prototypes are used in
tests to validate the development maturity of battery cells and to
demonstrate the effectiveness of the production processes. In
addition, the prototype production of the battery cells serves the
identification of process potentials as well as the optimization of
the production processes. In this way, the BMW Group gains a
thorough understanding of the entire battery cell value chain and
the decisive competitive advantages its chemical and technical
properties offer. This enables battery cells to be manufactured to
precise specifications that are geared towards each vehicle’s
individual requirements.

Competence Centre for E-Drive Production

Following extensive expansion, the Competence Centre for
E-Drive Production now provides a usable area of 125,000 sq. m. This
is where the company manufactures electric motors and the components
needed for them, as well as high-voltage batteries and battery
modules. A paint coating is also applied to the battery cells at
this location. The coating increases mechanical robustness and
thermal conductivity, thereby improving insulation and cooling of
the even more powerful fifth-generation battery cells.

Plant Dingolfing has been manufacturing standard
high-voltage batteries and battery modules since 2013, when the BMW
Group's first all-electric vehicle, the BMW i3*, went into
production. The first production lines for electric motors and
high-voltage batteries for plug-in hybrids went on-stream there in
2014. The Competence Centre for E-Drive Production has been steadily
growing ever since. The plant has also been producing high-voltage
batteries for the fully electric MINI Cooper SE* since 2019 and,
since 2020, also the highly integrated fifth-generation e-drive used
for the first time in the BMW iX3*. Production of the even more
powerful high-voltage batteries for the BMW iX* and BMW i4 is now
getting underway. E-drives for future models can also be produced on
the flexible production lines.

Qualification for long-term, sustainable jobs

With the BMW Group systematically pursuing progress in
electromobility, the demands on employees and their areas of
responsibility are also constantly evolving. “We are growing our
staff for e-drive production almost exclusively through personnel
restructuring. We are actively shaping the transformation process
and leveraging our employees’ skills so we can develop long-term
sustainable jobs,” explains Nikolaides.

The Competence Centre for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing
currently has almost 1,400 employees. By the end of 2021, around
1,900 employees are expected to work in e-drive production in Dingolfing.

Production employees receive further training at the
in-house learning centre, which uses innovative vocational training
and further education methods to provide employees with intensive
preparation for their new tasks. Employees’ knowledge and skills are
being expanded specifically to include new electromobility
technologies, with a training concept that is constantly updated.
The training sessions are held in the classroom, at practice
workstations and directly on the production lines. Digital methods
and augmented reality play a bigger role here than ever before.
Thanks to these methods, the training courses were also able to
continue safely during the coronavirus pandemic, in compliance with
health and safety measures.

“The learning centre takes a holistic approach that
supports employees throughout their professional development and
further education, from their first day in production,” reports Dr
Sven Jochmann, head of Production E-Drives Dingolfing, Landshut,
Regensburg, Leipzig. “As well as trainers and managers, new
colleagues are also supported by trained mentors who help them
quickly find their way around their new working environment,” adds Jochmann.

Transformation of the Dingolfing location

The Dingolfing location is a prime example of the
successful transformation of the BMW Group plants towards e-mobility
and digitalisation. E-drive production, including electric motors
and high-voltage batteries, is located in an existing, roughly
50-year-old building at the site, rather than using new space. The
infrastructure was adapted to the new requirements and expanded
accordingly. A modern staff restaurant seats 300 and there is also a
new parking deck with space for 800 vehicles. The structural
measures are rounded out by a 25,000 sq. m. logistics hall, new
office spaces and social rooms close to the production area, as well
as an additional plant gate in the south for improved logistics flows.

On the issue of sustainability, the BMW Group takes a
holistic approach to reducing CO2 emissions and
minimising resource consumption that covers the entire value chain,
including in-house production, the supply chain and use phase. In
Dingolfing, as at all BMW Group locations, production uses only
green power. In addition, all BMW Group locations have been net
carbon neutral since this year, through corresponding offsets and
certificates. The company is also using many other levers: from
building technology to energy-efficient installations to increased
use of renewable energies. Electric trucks will be used for
intra-company goods transport at the Competence Centre for E-Drive
Production from the autumn.

2030: At least 50 percent of global BMW Group sales will be
fully electric

The BMW Group continues its massive electromobility
ramp-up: The company will offer five fully-electric models by the
end of this year: the BMW i3*, the MINI Cooper SE* and the BMW iX3*,
as well as the two main innovation flagships, the BMW iX* and BMW i4.

Between now and 2025, the BMW Group will increase its
sales of fully-electric models by an average of well over 50 percent
per year – more than ten times the number of units sold in 2020.
Based on its current market forecast, the company also expects at
least 50 percent of its global sales to come from fully-electric
vehicles in 2030. In total, over the next ten years or so, the BMW
Group will be releasing about ten million fully-electric vehicles
onto the roads.

Global e-drive production network with a focus in Germany

The high-voltage batteries and battery components needed
for all BMW and MINI electrified vehicles come from the company’s
own battery factories in Dingolfing, Leipzig and Regensburg in
Germany, as well as from Spartanburg (USA) and Shenyang (China). The
BMW Group has also localised production of high-voltage batteries in
Thailand, at its Rayong plant, and is working with the Dräxlmaier
Group for this. Munich is home to the e-drive pilot plant and the
Battery Cell Competence Centre, where the BMW Group is conducting a
full analysis of battery cell value creation processes and advancing
technology for its production processes.

The company produces electric motors at the Competence
Centre for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing and at BMW Group Plant
Landshut. BMW Group Plant Steyr builds the housing for the highly
integrated fifth-generation e-drive.

Geïntegreerde BMW ontwikkelingsexpertise voor nauwkeurig rijgedrag,
fascinerende dynamiek in de bochten, evenwichtig comfort en
uitstekende afwerking. De eerste zuiver elektrisch aangedreven
vierdeurs Gran Coupé verrijkt lokaal emissievrije mobiliteit met puur
rijplezier en gaat later dit jaar in productie.

//

Munich. When an ideal balance is called for between
dynamics and ride comfort, the BMW 3 Series and 4 Series models
consistently set the benchmark within their segments in the premium
market. In terms of electrically powered vehicles, the new BMW i4 is
set to take on this role very soon. The first purely electrically
powered 4-door Gran Coupé enriches locally emission-free mobility with
sheer driving pleasure.

“For the first time, we’ve developed a BMW with sporty DNA for purely
electric driving entirely from scratch,” explains project manager
David Alfredo Ferrufino Camacho. “The BMW i4 offers everything BMW
stands for – and it’s fully electric, too.”

A few months prior to its world premiere, the BMW i4 is currently
completing the final phase of driving dynamics testing. The focus here
is on the integrated application of all drive and suspension
components, ensuring that the spontaneous power delivery of the
electric motor is combined with precisely controllable handling in
every situation, fascinating cornering dynamics, optimised traction in
all weather and road conditions and perfectly balanced ride comfort.
For the purpose of this fine-tuning process, the BMW Group applies its
technological expertise in the areas of drive and suspension drawn
from decades of experience. This gives the new BMW i4 a mature premium
character and makes for a driving experience that is unique within the
competitive environment.

Excitingly calm: sprinting with the BMW i4.

With a maximum output of up to 390 kW/530 hp, the electric powertrain
in the BMW i4 enables impressive acceleration manoeuvres: it reaches
the 100 km/h mark in just four seconds from standstill. But even more
impressive than its pure sprint capacity is the driving response it
conveys. A model-specific damper technology reduces the dipping
movements of the body at the moment of set-off, while the
actuator-related wheel slip limitation (ARB) developed by BMW with its
extremely fast and precise control guarantees optimum traction and
perfect straight-line stability at all times – even on slippery road
surfaces. This makes the catapult-like sprint in the new BMW i4 an
experience that is both exciting and carefree, because it is not
affected by drive slip or course corrections.

However, fascinating acceleration is only one aspect of the superior
performance characteristics that define the BMW i4. Other
distinguishing features include its spontaneous reactions to every
movement – not just of the accelerator pedal but also of the steering
and the brake pedal. The prerequisites for this high level of agility
and precision are anchored in the underlying vehicle concept of the
BMW i4. This includes the car's long wheelbase, wide track widths,
model-specific camber values, large wheels, as well as the high
torsional rigidity and the vehicle’s low centre of gravity and weight balance.

Effortless precision: taking the bend on the ideal line.

All these parameters were taken into account in detail in the
integrated application of the drive and suspension components so as to
ensure hallmark BMW sporty flair in every situation on the road. The
design and tuning of the suspension and damping systems consistently
ensure optimum road contact. At the same time, the virtually silent
drive in combination with the sophisticated suspension technology
gives the impression of an effortlessly floating vehicle even at
higher speeds, entirely unaffected by bumps in the road or difficult
traction conditions.

“The BMW i4 conveys the feeling of being light and agile yet also
solid and authoritative,” says project manager David Alfredo Ferrufino
Camacho. “With its superior directional reliability and high level of
cornering stability, it seems to literally attach itself to the road.
All electric vehicles are capable of fast straight-line acceleration.
But that’s not enough for us at BMW.”

The BMW i4 is also effortlessly controllable – even in highly dynamic
driving situations. In addition to its neutral self-steering behaviour
and its powerful, precisely controllable brakes, the steering in the
BMW i4 is a major contributing factor here: it responds directly and
with a high degree of accuracy, offering the driver precise feedback
at all times while remaining entirely independent of drive forces,
even during intensive acceleration or deceleration. Lane changes at
high speeds are mastered with ease, while relaxed driving over long
distances is ensured by the speed-related Servotronic power steering
and the fact that the vehicle is largely insusceptible to any
disruption caused by road bumps.

Typical BMW: the unique balance between sporty flair and ride comfort.

The distinctive driving dynamics of the BMW i4 derive partly from the
fact that its performance characteristics are not achieved at the
expense of driving comfort. The purely electrically powered Gran Coupé
is characterised by unrestricted suitability for day-to-day use.
Fitted with a high-voltage storage system featuring the latest battery
cell technology that enables a range of up to 600 kilometres (WLTP),
the chassis technology of the BMW i4 is designed for long-distance
comfort, too. It is based on the high-quality damper technology,
supplemented with model-specific components and separately tuned. This
effectively reduces body vibrations due to road unevenness and on
bends. The model-specific fine-tuning of the suspension and damping
contributes significantly to the harmonious driving characteristics of
the BMW i4.

At the same time as the final calibration runs are being held,
preparations are underway for the production start-up at BMW Group
Plant Munich. [Link to separate press release: https://newsroom.bmwgroup.com/global/en’s-home-plant-ready-for-bmw-i4]

auto’s grondig voor op hun introductie. Drie nieuwe modellen ondergaan

Press Contact: Jeroen Lissens
Tel: +32-3-890-9708
e-mailadres: jeroen.lissens@bmw.be

Press Release,G08,iX3,G26,iX,i4
