Munich. Additions to the line-up of drive systems and the range of optional extras are set to further increase the appeal and diversity of the BMW product range from spring 2024. The BMW i5 Berline and BMW iX2 fully electric models will each be available from March 2024 with an additional drive system variant. The drive system offerings for the BMW X2 and BMW XM have also been expanded. And additional exterior paint finishes will be offered for the BMW 5 Series Berline, BMW X2 and BMW iX2. Customers will also be able to order the business berline with new variants of the BMW Individual Merino leather trim.

Attractive new features will also be introduced in spring 2024 in the area of digital services. These include easier use of the voice assistant Siri (as part of the integration of the Apple iPhone into cars specified with BMW Operating System 9), and the optimised display of ratings for charging stations for fully electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models. The steady expansion of the range of functions for the My BMW App also continues.

BMW i5 xDrive40: third fully electric variant of the business berline.

A third fully electric variant will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Berline line-up in March 2024. The new BMW i5 xDrive40 Berline (electric power consumption, combined: 20.0 – 17.2 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle) has two highly integrated electric drive units at the front and rear axle which together develop a system output of up to 290 kW/394 hp and peak torque of 590 Nm (435 lb-ft). Underpinned by the resultant electric all-wheel drive, the BMW i5 xDrive40 Berline accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 215 km/h (134 mph).

The third fully electric model variant of the new business berline stores its energy in a high-voltage battery positioned deep in the vehicle floor. The battery delivers 81.2 kWh of usable energy. The car’s Combined Charging Unit enables AC charging at a rate of 11 kW as standard and 22 kW as an option. And it also allows DC charging at fast-charging stations at up to 205 kW. This means the range of the BMW i5 xDrive40 Berline can be increased by 156 kilometres (97 miles) in the space of ten minutes. The likewise standard Plug & Charge Multi Contract function enables automatic authentication of the car at public charging points. The range of the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Berline as calculated in the WLTP cycle is 463 – 538 kilometres (288 – 334 miles).

Additional exterior paint finishes can be specified for all model variants of the new BMW 5 Series Berline from March 2024. The spectrum of colours will now also include the BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic. At the same time, the business berline will also be offered with extremely exclusive BMW Individual special paint finishes. BMW Individual has come up with around 150 eye-catching shades (solid, metallic and matt) for this product area. All BMW Individual special paint finishes stand out with their impressive depth of colour and exceptional lustre. Customers can unlock an overview of the variants for the new BMW 5 Series Berline using the BMW Individual Visualizer, which can be accessed via a link in the vehicle configurator.

Added to which, extra variants of the seat and interior surfaces for the new BMW 5 Series Berline are also available. If the optional comfort seats have been specified, the BMW Individual Merino leather trim can also be specified in the bi-colour variants Dark Violet/Atlas Grey and Taupe Grey/Atlas Grey from March 2024.

New entry-level variant for the BMW iX2; launch of the BMW X2 xDrive20d.

BMW’s current model offensive in the area of electric mobility also brings additional variety to the premium compact segment. A new entry-level variant of the fully electric BMW iX2 will go on sale in March 2024. The new BMW iX2 eDrive20 (electric power consumption, combined: 16.9 – 15.3 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle) takes a particularly economical route to delivering locally emission-free driving pleasure in a compact Sports Activity Coupé (SAC). Powered by a 150 kW/204 hp electric motor at the front axle, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.6 seconds and posts a range of 439 – 478 kilometres (273 – 297 miles) in the WLTP cycle. Its top speed is limited to 170 km/h (106 mph).

The high-voltage battery in the new BMW iX2 eDrive20 serves up 64.78 kWh of usable energy and can be charged from AC sources at 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW as an option. DC charging is possible at up to 130 kW. Thanks to extremely efficient charging software and predictive heat management capability, brief stops are enough to significantly increase the battery charge. In ten minutes hooked up to a fast-charging station, the BMW iX2 eDrive20 can take on sufficient energy to boost its range by 120 kilometres (75 miles). The BMW iX2 eDrive20 is also equipped for using the Plug & Charge Multi Contract function as standard.

Lining up alongside the new entry-level variant of the BMW iX2 is the new BMW X2 xDrive20d (fuel consumption, combined: 5.2 – 4.8 litres/100 km [54.3 – 58.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions, combined: 136 – 125 g/km in the WLTP cycle). The second diesel variant of the compact SAC is distinguished by even more rapid power delivery and even greater efficiency courtesy of 48V mild hybrid technology. Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine links up with an electric motor integrated into the seven-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The motor serves as a crankshaft-driven starter generator and can both ease the load on the diesel engine and act in unison with it. The drive system develops maximum output of 120 kW/163 hp (developed by the combination of the combustion engine with up to 110 kW/150 hp and the electric motor with up to 14 kW/19 hp) and peak torque of 400 Nm / 295 lb-ft (developed by the combination of the combustion engine with up to 360 Nm / 265 lb-ft and the electric motor with up to 55 Nm / 41 lb-ft), all of which is channelled to the road via the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive. This allows the BMW X2 xDrive20d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.6 seconds. Top speed is 207 km/h (129 mph).

From March 2024, all model variants of the new BMW X2 and new BMW iX2 will also be available with an expanded range of exterior paint finishes (BMW Individual Special Request). Frozen Black metallic is a new addition to the selection.

BMW XM 50e: high performance with maximum efficiency.

As the latest offshoot of the first ever electrified high-performance model from BMW M GmbH, the new BMW XM 50e (fuel consumption, combined: 1.7 – 1.3 litres/100 km [166.2 – 217.3 mpg imp]; electric power consumption, combined: 32.2 – 31.5 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions, combined: 37 – 30 g/km in the WLTP cycle) blends signature M dynamism, extrovert design and progressive interior luxury with maximum efficiency. Its M HYBRID drive system is composed of a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and an electric motor integrated, together with its power electronics, into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. This combination produces system output of 350 kW/476 hp (developed by the combination of the combustion engine with up to 230 kW/313 hp and the electric motor with up to 145 kW/197 hp) and maximum system torque of 700 Nm / 516 lb-ft (developed by the combination of the combustion engine with up to 450 Nm / 332 lb-ft and the electric motor with up to 280 Nm / 206 lb-ft).

The latest version of the 3.0-litre combustion engine fitted in the BMW XM 50e owes its enhanced performance characteristics among other things to the Miller combustion cycle, dual injection, an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and VANOS variable camshaft timing, which now works electrically. The electric motor has a pre-gearing stage patented by BMW, which allows the effective torque at the transmission input for the motor to be increased to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). The top speed of the high-performance model – which is also equipped with the all-wheel-drive system M xDrive – is an electronically limited 250 km/h (155 mph). Thanks to an electric range of 77 – 83 kilometres (48 – 52 miles) in the WLTP cycle, the BMW XM 50e can cover much of its everyday mileage – e.g. in urban centres – with zero local emissions. And it can also be driven on electric power alone beyond the city limits at speeds of up to 140 km/h (87 mph).

The most efficient version of the new M HYBRID system comes together with the extraordinary presence of the unmistakable high-performance model in the Sports Activity Vehicle segment. The model-specific design features of the new variant include the black accent band along the sides of the car, plus a surround for the BMW kidney grille and trim detailing for the rear diffuser (both in Pearl-effect Chrome), exhaust tailpipe trim in Black high-gloss and silver-coloured bordering for the model badge. Customers wishing to bring an extra personal touch to the interior of their new BMW XM 50e – which also offers a unique combination of modern sports car flair and extravagant luxury with its M-specific cockpit, M multifunction seats, sculptural headliner and M Lounge in the rear compartment – can specify features including exclusive Vintage leather for the upper section of the instrument panel and door trim panels.

New digital services, My BMW App with additional functions.

Among the digital services available for the first time from spring 2024 is the extended smartphone integration for vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 9. This enables the Siri voice assistant for the Apple iPhone to be activated directly by voice command and without needing to also press the push-to-talk button. Elsewhere, the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps now boasts improved display of information on charging stations. The available images and ratings are shown both in the list of search results and in the detailed display. The charging station ratings will now be shown clearly on a scale of zero to five stars. 

Added to which, in numerous European countries the BMW iDrive display and control/operation system in many current models also enables digital payment of parking fees and – in Germany – also fuel top-ups from inside the car. As with payment of parking fees, this uses the credit card information pre-stored in the vehicle apps.

As a universal digital interface for data exchange between the customer and their car, the My BMW App offers an ever-expanding number of functions. From spring 2024, Comfort Access with the BMW Digital Key Plus will be integrated into the My BMW App in vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 8, 8.5 or 9. In addition, the map view for selecting navigation destinations imported into the vehicle has been newly designed. This also improves the search function and the visibility of the most relevant content. Map and routing functions will in future be proposed based on current vehicle or user contexts.

Finally, the new E-mobility Analysis function will also be added to the My Trips menu item in the My BMW App. Based on the customer’s driving behaviour, this function proposes the BMW model with all-electric drive system most suited to them. These recommendations are intended to help spark interest among users of combustion-engined vehicles in switching to an electric vehicle.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

The integrated protection features of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 were factored into the series production development process for the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). They include an armoured body and safety glass designed specifically for this model. The latest version of the protection vehicle therefore also meets the stipulations of Germany’s Vereinigung der Prüfstellen für Angriffshemmende Materialien und Konstruktionen (Association of Test Laboratories for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions – VPAM, for short) with regard to ballistic resistance and blast resistance. The official certification for the complete vehicle was issued in accordance with the guidelines for Bullet Resistant Vehicles (VPAM BRV) and the guidelines for Explosive Resistant Vehicles (VPAM ERV, third edition).

The new design of the exterior and interior ensures there is barely any perceptible difference between the BMW X5 Protection VR6 and the equivalent standard model. Its inconspicuous appearance on public roads represents an additional safety factor for individuals requiring special protection. The upgraded powertrain of the X5 Protection VR6 teams up with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and bespoke chassis technology to deliver the dynamic and assured performance that marks out an SAV from BMW and also enables flexible responses in potentially dangerous situations.

The BMW X5 Protection VR6 is the most powerful, most dynamic and worldwide biggest-selling vehicle of its kind. The new edition will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich. There it will be presented to the public for the first time together with the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection. The new BMW X5 Protection VR6 has an outstanding skillset as a single vehicle for at-risk individuals. And it is also ideally suited to the role of support vehicle alongside the new protection vehicles based on the BMW 7 Series. Deliveries of the new model will get underway in February 2024.

Precisely modified design, discreet looks with a sporting flavour.

The precise upgrades for the exterior design of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 centre around the new interpretation of the signature BMW headlights and kidney grille. The outline of the front lights is 35 millimetres narrower than before. Their arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements also perform the role of turn signal indicators. Matrix LED headlights with adaptive control and BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high beam team up as standard. The BMW kidney grille is now bordered by clearly sculpted surfaces, and includes hallmark M double bars and the M logo.

The new design features borrow stylistically from the standard model with V8 engine to give the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 an understated appearance with a sporting flavour. Also playing their part here are the newly designed air breathers in the front wheel arches, the M exterior mirror caps in Black high-gloss, the BMW Individual roof rails in High-gloss Shadowline and the two pairs of exhaust tailpipes familiar from other M models. The likewise newly designed rear lights cut a striking figure at night in particular. The brand-typical L shape of the LED units for the rear lights and brake lights is reflected horizontally, creating a visually powerful, consistently illuminated X motif. Pulsating turn signal indicators at the rear round off the unmistakable light show.

The range of exterior paint finishes comprises all of the shades available for the new edition of the BMW X5. It also includes a large number of BMW Individual paint finishes and BMW Individual special paint finishes.

Progressive interior design with BMW Curved Display.

Offering generous levels of space and a raised seating position, the cabin of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 also underscores the imposing character that traditionally marks out a luxury-class SAV. The protection vehicle has a four-seater layout in the interests of optimal comfort and safety. Thanks to the highly effective integration of its protection features, occupants can enjoy exactly the same amount of space and seating comfort as in the standard version of the BMW X5. The vehicle’s boot has a load capacity of 500 litres, while its maximum permissible payload has increased to 475 kilograms.

The new design of the cockpit brings a particularly progressive feel to the premium interior ambience. The new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is also now equipped with the fully digital BMW Curved Display. This consists of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches – both located behind a single glass surface.

The BMW X5 Protection VR6 features the upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, complete with the BMW Curved Display. It is based on BMW Operating System 8.5 and makes selecting and operating numerous functions even more intuitive and comfortable thanks to a new home screen and QuickSelect rapid-access tech.

Standard specification for the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 also includes four-zone automatic climate control, which comes with a separate control panel for the temperature and ventilation in the rear compartment. The central air vents in the front of the cabin are now slim in appearance and integrated into the newly designed instrument panel almost out of sight.

The instrument panel has surfacing in leather-like Sensafin as standard, together with a large trim strip in Fineline Black metal effect. Another new feature is the ambient light bar with crystalline surface structure and highly effective LED backlighting integrated below the trim element in the front passenger area. The control panel in the centre console also has an extremely modern design with additional touch-sensitive surfaces and a newly designed selector lever.

Sport seats in new Sensafin trim, M leather steering wheel and Surround View as standard.

The BMW X5 Protection VR6 is fitted with sport seats as standard. These offer outstanding lateral support when the driver is exploring the limits of the car’s handling agility. Their functionality includes lumbar support and electric adjustment options for the seat height, seat angle, backrest angle and backrest width – including a memory function on the driver’s side. The sport seats are heated and their new Sensafin surfaces can be ordered in a choice of four colours. BMW Individual Merino extended leather upholstery in four colour variants and BMW Individual full Merino leather upholstery in three different tones are included on the options list. Also available as an option are comfort seats with fully electric adjustment. These can be specified as an option with active seat ventilation and a massage function.

Standard specification for the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 also includes an M leather steering wheel, ambient lighting, a hi-fi speaker system and soft-close doors. The protection vehicle is also fitted as standard with the sensors and camera systems developed for the driver assistance systems in the BMW X5. Functions such as Surround View, Remote 3D View and the BMW Drive Recorder provide precise and detailed information on the area around the vehicle in all situations.

New V8 engine with 48V mild hybrid technology.

Effortless forward momentum and agile handling in any situation are the defining driving qualities of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6. The requisite drive power stems from a V8 engine whose latest incarnation boasts even more responsive power delivery and greater efficiency. The 4.4-litre unit harnesses the thermodynamic benefits of a cross-bank exhaust manifold, bank-symmetrical turbochargers and external engine oil cooling. Other new features include a reinforced crankshaft drive, improved turbocharging with a blow-off valve, an oil pump with increased capacity and a weight-minimised oil sump.

In addition to this, the eight-cylinder engine now also comes with 48V mild hybrid technology in the form of a crankshaft-mounted starter generator. Integrated into the housing of the eight-speed Steptronic transmission – which has also undergone an extensive upgrade – is an electric motor that generates an output boost of up to 9 kW/12 hp and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque, helping the engine to deliver a smooth, dynamic and, at the same time, efficient drive. The power needed for this is stored in a 48V battery that is charged extremely efficiently by recuperating energy on the overrun and under braking.

The new drive system generates a total maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft), propelling the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds. The protection model’s top speed is an electronically governed 210 km/h (130 mph).

Individually tuned chassis technology, Integral Active Steering and active roll stabilisation as standard.

The chassis technology on board the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 has been tuned precisely to its high power output and model-specific weight distribution. The standard Sport brakes deliver consistently high levels of stopping power, even under heavy loads.

The new BMW X5 Protection VR6 comes as standard with adaptive M suspension Professional, which includes not only the M Sport differential but also Integral Active Steering and an active roll stabilisation system. Turning the rear wheels in either the same or the opposite direction to the front wheels, depending on road speed, enhances the vehicle’s controllability at high speeds while also making it more agile in urban traffic and when manoeuvring. Active roll stabilisation, meanwhile, is able to reduce both body roll when taking corners at speed and the obtrusive effects caused by surface imperfections on one side of the vehicle when driving in a straight line. Operated using electric swivel motors, this system thereby improves both agility and steering precision in the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 and the vehicle’s ride comfort.

Integrated protection features, harmonious overall concept.

The new BMW X5 Protection VR6 succeeds in combining outstanding protection under armed attack with a discreet design and superb driving qualities. This is all thanks to its integrated protection features.

The armouring’s formed steel sections and the safety glass were specially developed for this model and harmoniously integrated into the vehicle’s overall concept on both a functional and design level. This meant that careful consideration was already given to aspects such as body gaps and the transitions between body and glass in the development phase.

Armoured body and safety glass turn the interior into a protective cell.

The armouring for the passenger compartment and the safety glass are core elements of the protection features. Formed sections made of high-strength steel that have been perfectly tailored to the body’s contours can be found in the area around the doors, side frame, roof and bulkhead. An armoured partition for the luggage compartment and an aluminium splinter guard for the underbody round off the body-related security measures.

Extended underbody armouring and additional armouring for the roof are available as optional extras for the new BMW X5 Protection VR6. Standard specification also includes a self-sealing fuel tank with a special casing that seals itself after being hit by a bullet to prevent any loss of fuel.

Model-specific convenience and security features.

A heating function for the windscreen and the front sections of the side windows comes as standard, as do electrically operated windows in the front. Another item on the model-specific standard equipment list for the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is an intercom system for communicating with people on the outside. The controls for both this system and other model-specific functions can be found in an additional panel of switches in front of the selector lever on the centre console.

Further bespoke equipment features can be added to the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 to suit the intended purpose. These include flashing LED lights in the radiator grille at the front, flashing rear lights, roof-mounted light beacons including an acoustic signalling system and a roof antenna with an additional receiver for digital two-way radio. Flag poles are also optionally available for official occasions.

Signature brand qualities, model-specific protection features.

Besides the integrated protection concept, the test procedures compulsory for all models also play a part in enabling the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 to offer an uncompromising level of security while still retaining the comfort and driving dynamics for which BMW is renowned. The arduous test and calibration runs staged over the course of the production development process ensure that both the vehicle and its model-specific equipment features are ready to go and will work reliably even in extreme conditions.

The protection model is fitted with its bespoke chassis technology at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina, where the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is being built alongside the regular variants of the SAV. The protection equipment and other model-specific security features are subsequently integrated by highly skilled experts in a “craft manufacturing” process, guaranteeing that the holistic security concept is implemented without any compromises.

Global service network, special driver training courses.

Customers around the world can take advantage of individual and discreet consultancy arrangements and an array of other services. This includes accommodating specific customer requests when it comes to equipping their vehicle with additional protection and/or convenience features. Service and maintenance for the protection models are provided by an international network of BMW service outlets, with the work carried out exclusively by trained experts in certified specialist workshops.

BMW also offers special Security driver training courses. These programmes, which BMW has been hosting for more than 35 years, are offered at various intensity levels depending on the prior knowledge of the participants involved and take place at several locations around the world. The training courses are led by highly qualified experts and their content ranges from comprehensive theory sessions to practical vehicle control exercises and tactical response training.

Munich. At the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, the BMW Group will be presenting the most recent highlights of its ongoing transformation in the key action areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity. The latest new models with electrified powertrains from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands, plus Vision Vehicles and concepts for individual mobility in tomorrow’s world all serve to underline the company’s innovative strength in these fields. As the dawn of a new era in personal mobility approaches, the BMW Group is set to unveil its latest highlight, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which brings together the Group’s development expertise in the three crucial disciplines for the future of mobility.

The IAA Mobility show is being staged in Munich for the second time. For the BMW Group and its brands, this provides an excellent opportunity to enter into constructive dialogue on the future of individual mobility with local people, as well as with visitors to the show from outside Munich and other stakeholders. The IAA Mobility Summit at the exhibition centre and the BMW Group’s Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich will be the main arenas where BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad present their new products on 5 – 10 September 2023. Among the models visitors can acquaint themselves with here alongside the BMW Vision Neue Klasse is the fully electric BMW i5. And they can also experience the world premieres of the new fully electric MINI Cooper, new fully electric MINI Countryman and BMW CE 02 eParkourer.

Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public, ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5 – 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA Mobility 2023. The current model portfolios of the BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands are presented here, along with the latest BMW and MINI Lifestyle collections. Plus, starting on 2 September 2023, BMW Lifestyle together with BMW M GmbH will be running a GOODS WITH FREUDE pop-up store in the Hofstatt shopping centre at No. 10 Sendlinger Straße. Located just a few minutes’ walk away from the Open Space, the store will feature both familiar lifestyle articles and the new BMW Lifestyle collection.

World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range. Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission together with its power electronics. The highly integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km [256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 20.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 – 470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 – 18.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment, which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models – meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time, maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment, as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation. Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle, increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with various target groups around the world. This allows selected test groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air, through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of 180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential – provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at all times.

München. Voor liefhebbers van klassieke auto's in Noord-Amerika is het Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance al lange tijd de perfecte seizoensopener. En de 28e editie van dit voorjaarsevenement richtte de schijnwerpers op exquise zeldzaamheden uit vervlogen tijden, maar ook op nieuwe modellen uit Beieren. BMW en BMW M GmbH bundelden hun krachten om de nieuwe edities van hun Sports Activity Vehicles en Sports Activity Coupés - geproduceerd in de BMW Group Plant Spartanburg - te presenteren. De vier modellen die op Amelia Island hun wereldpremière beleven, profiteren ook van een aanzienlijk uitgebreide reeks systemen voor automatisch rijden en parkeren. Zowel het parkeren als de complete manoeuvres kunnen worden uitgevoerd van buiten de auto met behulp van een Apple iPhone.

BMW Group Classic schittert met racelegendes en designiconen.

Naast de sportieve nieuwkomers van BMW en BMW M op Amelia Island was ook een echte autosportlegende aanwezig: de BMW 3.0 CSL. BMW Group Classic bracht de legendarische racer naar de show om een heel bijzondere verjaardag te vieren. Precies 50 jaar geleden reden Toine Hezemans (NL) en Dieter Quester (AT) met de 3.0 CSL naar de overwinning in de toerwagenklasse ("Tourisme Spéciale") tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans. De betrouwbaarheid van de 3,3-liter motor in auto nummer 51 speelde daarbij een sleutelrol, want het duo eindigde ook als 11e in het algemeen klassement van de prestigieuze uithoudingsklassieker.

Op Amelia Island werd de 3.0 CSL racecoupé om beurten tentoongesteld in de BMW Group Classic ruimte met de in serie geproduceerde versie van de tweedeurs auto die ook bekend staat als de "Batmobile" (vanwege zijn spectaculaire achtervleugel). Deze laatste ontwikkelingsfase van de BMW 3.0 CSL met 3,2-liter motor met 206 pk, waarvan slechts 167 exemplaren werden gemaakt, viert dit jaar ook zijn 50e verjaardag. De kers op de taart van de BMW Group Classic line-up was de BMW 507. De roadster staat nog steeds bekend als één van de meest iconische BMW auto's aller tijden.

BMW Z3 en BMW Z4: kenmerkend BMW roadster gevoel over vier generaties.

In de aanloop naar het Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance werd bijna drie decennia roadstergeschiedenis herenigd. Een roadtrip door Florida bracht een handvol BMW Z3 en BMW Z4 modellen van vier generaties samen. De selectie van auto's voor de tour van Zuid-Florida naar de locatie van het evenement voor klassieke auto's in het noordoosten van de Sunshine State varieerde van de BMW Z3 tot de nieuwste BMW Z4, die onlangs een nieuwe ronde van design en uitrusting kreeg.

De BMW Z3 was het eerste model dat voor de wereldmarkt werd gebouwd in de BMW Group fabriek Spartanburg in de Amerikaanse staat South Carolina. De roadster werd onthuld in 1995 en maakte zijn eerste publieke verschijning in de kaskraker James Bond film GoldenEye. Hij bleef te koop tot 2002, toen hij werd vervangen door de eerste BMW Z4. Met zijn opvallende lijnen en geavanceerde uitrustingsdetails zette de Z4 duidelijk een streep onder zijn voorganger. Zeven jaar later zorgde de tweede generatie van de BMW Z4 voor een frisse interpretatie van de roadster-kunst - met zijn elegant vloeiende lijnen en, vooral, een intrekbare metalen hardtop die met een druk op de knop elektrohydraulisch omlaag en weer omhoog kon worden gebracht. De derde generatie van de Z4 tovert sinds 2018 een glimlach op de gezichten van liefhebbers van open-top rijplezier. Scherpe proporties, een klassiek - en elektrisch aangedreven - softtopdak en een nieuw niveau van dynamisch talent onderscheiden hem van de massa, net als de unieke zes-in-lijn motor van het topmodel.

BMW presenteert de grondig opgefriste nieuwe versies van zijn succesvolle Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) en Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) voor het luxesegment. De nieuwe BMW X5 en de nieuwe BMW X6 benadrukken hun inherente uitstraling en zelfzekerheid met gedetailleerde designwijzigingen en aanvullingen op hun standaardspecificaties. Het opgefriste aandrijfsysteem omvat nieuwe verbrandingsmotoren, een plug-in-hybridesysteem van de nieuwste generatie voor de BMW X5 xDrive50e (gecombineerd benzineverbruik: 1,1 – 0,8 l/100 km; gecombineerd elektriciteitsverbruik: 27,0 – 22,9 kWh/100 km; CO2-uitstoot: 26 – 18 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus) en 48V Mild Hybrid-technologie voor alle andere modellen. Andere toonaangevende snufjes zijn de nieuwe systemen voor geautomatiseerd rijden en parkeren en het volledig digitale iDrive besturings-/bedieningssysteem met BMW Curved Display op basis van BMW Operating System 8.

De update geeft de BMW X5 alles wat hij nodig heeft om wereldwijd marktleider te blijven in zijn segment en stelt de BMW X6 in staat om zijn positie als nummer één veilig te stellen, dit vergeleken met concurrenten van andere Duitse premiumconstructeurs. De twee modellen zullen worden gebouwd in de fabriek van de BMW Group in Spartanburg (VS), het competentiecentrum voor BMW X-modellen, en zullen vanaf april 2023 wereldwijd worden gelanceerd.

De nieuwe BMW X5: slanke koplampen, verlichte BMW nieren.

De standaard gemonteerde xLine-designelementen geven de BMW X5 beduidend meer uitstraling en robuustheid. Zijn neus heeft een vorm die wordt bepaald door de frisse interpretatie van de typische BMW koplampen en nieren. De nieuwe koplampunits zijn nu 35 millimeter smaller. Hun pijlvormige dagrijlichtelementen wijzen naar buiten en fungeren ook als richtingaanwijzers. Matrix LED-koplampen met Adaptive Control en niet-verblindende grootlichten BMW Selective Beam, plus M Shadow Line lights staan op de optielijst.

De BMW nieren Iconic Glow worden nu als optie aangeboden voor de zescilindervarianten van de nieuwe BMW X5 en de cascadeverlichting creëert een uiterst opvallende en merktypische look. De verticale Air Curtains en de onderste luchtinlaat, compleet met sierlijsten in Perlglanz Chrom en driehoekige openingen op de buitenste delen, dragen ook bij tot de hypermoderne uitstraling.

Het nauwkeurig opgefriste design van de BMW X5 omvat ook nieuw ontworpen luchtinlaten in de zijpanelen vooraan en standaard sierlijsten in Exterieur Line Aluminium gesatineerd en dakrails in Aluminium gesatineerd. De sculpturale lichtgeleidingselementen in glasvezel voor de achterlichten en remlichten hebben nu bijzonder opvallende contouren. De L-vorm die bekend is van andere BMW modellen wordt horizontaal gereflecteerd en creëert een consequent verlicht X-motief in de achterlichten.

De nieuwe BMW X6: M Sportpakket nu standaard.

De nieuwe BMW X6 heeft ook slanke koplampunits met pijlvormige elementen voor de dagrijlichten. Net als voordien worden de BMW nieren Iconic Glow als optie aangeboden voor de zescilindermodellen. Het dynamische karakter van de nieuwe BMW X6 wordt nog intenser benadrukt met het nu standaard M Sportpakket. Centraal staat de achthoekige voorpartij onder de BMW nieren, met opvallende openingen opzij en een royaal gebruik van zwarte oppervlakken. Bovendien onderstreept de driedimensionale vormgeving van de voorschort de breedte en het gespierde postuur van de wagen.

Ook maken specifieke M zijdrempels en sierlijsten in M Shadow Line hochglänzend deel uit van het M Sportpakket. De achterschort van de SAC heeft een inzetstuk in Dark Shadow, terwijl de nieuwe uitlaatsierstukken trapeziumvormig zijn.

Topmodellen met opvallende designkenmerken; M Sport Pack Pro maakt zijn debuut.

Het M Sportpakket is als optie verkrijgbaar voor de nieuwe BMW X5 om het gevoel van exclusieve dynamiek over te brengen, terwijl het standaard is op de nieuwe BMW X6. Deze designkenmerken zijn modelspecifiek voor het topmodel BMW X5 M60i xDrive (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 12,5 – 11,5 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot: 283 – 261 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus) en BMW M60i xDrive (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 12,3 – 11,4 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot: 279 – 258 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus). Ze omvatten dubbele spijltjes en een M logo voor de BMW nieren, M buitenspiegelbehuizingen in Schwarz hochglänzend, een uitlaatsysteem met typische M quad-pijpen en een achterspoiler in Schwarz hochglänzend voor de BMW X6 M60i xDrive.

Alle modelversies zijn nu verkrijgbaar met het M Sport Pack Pro. De nieuwe koetswerkkleuren M Marina Bay Blau metallic (BMW X5 M60i xDrive) en M Isle of Man Grün metallic (BMW X6 M60i xDrive) zijn exclusief verkrijgbaar voor de topmodellen. Nieuwe kleuren voor alle modellen zijn Blue Ridge Mountain metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic en Frozen Pure Grey metallic, naast ongeveer 40 BMW Individual 'Special Request' lakkleuren.

Modern cockpitdesign met volledig digitaal BMW Curved Display.

Digitale technologie is de drijvende kracht achter de ontwikkelingen in het interieur van de nieuwe BMW X5 en de nieuwe BMW X6. De integratie van BMW Operating System 8 en de nieuwste generatie van het iDrive bedienings-/besturingssysteem kondigt ook de komst van het BMW Curved Display in het Sports Activity Vehicle en de Sports Activity Coupé aan. Het bestaat uit een 12,3" groot informatiedisplay achter het stuur en een Control Display met een schermdiagonaal van 14,9", allebei achter één enkel glasoppervlak. De aanraakfunctionaliteit van het Control Display heeft het aantal knoppen en schakelaars aanzienlijk verminderd ten gunste van digitale bediening voor tal van functies. De innovatieve cockpit en de bijbehorende updates van het instrumentenpaneel geven de moderne premiumsfeer een bijzonder vooruitstrevend gevoel.

De standaarduitrusting voor beide modellen omvat voortaan een instrumentenpaneel met bekledingen in lederachtig Sensafin en een elegant gebogen sierelement in edelhout. Een andere nieuwigheid is de sfeerlichtbalk met uiterst doeltreffende LED-achtergrondverlichting die onder het sierelement in de passagiersruimte vooraan is geïntegreerd. Het betreffende modelopschrift – “X5” of “X6” – is toegevoegd aan de graphics van de lichtbalk. In de twee topmodellen wordt het M logo weergegeven. Het bedieningspaneel op de middenconsole omvat bijkomende aanraakgevoelige oppervlakken en een nieuw ontworpen keuzehendel.

Als alternatief voor de standaard sportzetels met Sensafin-oppervlakken kunnen ook comfortzetels voor de bestuurder en voorpassagier worden besteld. Ook verkrijgbaar als optie zijn BMW Individual binnenbekleding in uitgebreid leder Merino, BMW Individual binnenbekleding in volleder Merino, actieve zetelventilatie en een massagefunctie.

Een van de andere hoogtepunten op de optielijst zijn het nieuwe Climate Pack met oppervlakteverwarming en een “thermo”-functie voor de bekerhouders, het panoramisch doorschijnend schuifdak Sky Lounge met LED-verlichting, glasafwerking voor bepaalde bedieningselementen, het Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System en het nieuw ontworpen Travel & Comfort System.

Nieuwe motoren, nieuwe achttraps sportversnellingsbak Steptronic en systematische elektrificatie.

De nieuwe BMW X5 en de nieuwe BMW X6 kunnen allebei worden besteld met een V8-benzinemotor, een zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor en een zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor – allemaal krachtbronnen van de nieuwste generatie. Alle motoren zijn nu gekoppeld aan de eveneens nieuwe achttraps sportversnellingsbak Steptronic, compleet met schakelpaddles aan het stuur. Via de intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive wordt het vermogen overgebracht op de weg – of zelfs onverharde ondergronden, naargelang de behoefte.

Alle aandrijfeenheden beschikken voortaan over 48V Mild Hybrid-technologie. Deze algemene toepassing van elektrificatie neemt de vorm aan van een in de transmissie geïntegreerde elektromotor. Deze motor genereert een vermogensboost tot 9 kW/12 pk en 200 Nm koppel, waardoor de verbrandingsmotor soepel, dynamisch en zeer zuinig kan lopen.

Nieuwe plug-in-hybride BMW X5 xDrive50e biedt meer vermogen, zuinigheid en elektrisch rijbereik.

Ook het aandrijfsysteem voor de plug-in-hybridevariant van de SAV is volledig vernieuwd. Het opgefriste model draagt de naam BMW X5 xDrive50e. Een zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor van de nieuwste generatie en een al even nieuwe elektromotor ontwikkelen samen een systeemvermogen van 360 kW/490 pk (inclusief tijdelijk boosteffect) – 70 kW/96 pk meer ten opzichte van het vorige model – en een gecombineerd koppel van 700 Nm, goed voor een toename van 100 Nm. Met een nominaal vermogen van 230 kW/313 pk levert de benzinemotor 20 kW/27 pk meer dan de krachtbron die hij vervangt. De compacte elektromotor die in de achttraps sportversnellingsbak Steptronic is geïntegreerd, levert een nominaal vermogen van 145 kW/197 pk (+62 kW/84 pk).

Bovendien zorgt een innovatieve pre-gearing – die het effectieve koppel van de elektromotor verhoogt tot maximaal 450 Nm bij de transmissie-input voor de motor – voor een nog scherpere vermogensontplooiing. Daarmee sprint de BMW X5 xDrive50e in 4,8 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u.

De hoeveelheid bruikbare energie die de in de bodemplaat geïntegreerde hoogspanningsaccu kan opslaan, werd ten opzichte van de vorige generatie met bijna 25 procent verhoogd tot 25,7 kWh. Een nieuwe Combined Charging Unit verdubbelt de maximale AC-laadsnelheid tot 7,4 kW. Het elektrische rijbereik van de nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive50e bedraagt 94 – 110 kilometer volgens de WLTP-cyclus.

Nieuwe V8-benzinemotor met M TwinPower Turbo-technologie.

De eer voor het sportieve karakter van de twee topmodellen gaat naar een nieuwe 4,4-liter V8-benzinemotor, afgeleid van de krachtbronnen in de high-performance-modellen van BMW M GmbH. De M TwinPower Turbo-technologie en het dwarsgeplaatste uitlaatspruitstuk geven de 390 kW/530 pk sterke motor, die een maximumkoppel van 750 Nm levert, indrukwekkende sportieve eigenschappen.

De nieuwste versie van de V8 stuwt zowel de nieuwe BMW X5 M60i xDrive als de nieuwe BMW X6 M60i xDrive in 4,3 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u.

Zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor van de nieuwste generatie.

Belangrijke innovaties in het verbrandingsproces, de gasuitwisseling, de klepsturing, de injectie en het ontstekingssysteem typeren de jongste generatie van de 3,0-liter zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor in de nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive40i (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 9,9 – 8,5 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot: 224 – 193 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus) en de nieuwe BMW X6 xDrive40i (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik:
9,6 – 8,5 l/100 km;

CO₂-uitstoot:
218 – 192 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus).

Het maximumvermogen van de nieuwe motor steeg met 35 kW/47 pk ten opzichte van de vorige modellen tot 280 kW/380 pk, terwijl het maximumkoppel met 70 Nm steeg tot 520 Nm. Dat kan dankzij de input van het Mild Hybrid-systeem oplopen tot maar liefst 540 Nm. De motor stuwt zowel de nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive40i als de nieuwe BMW X6 xDrive40i in 5,4 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u.

Zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor met detailverbeteringen.

De zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor in de nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive30d (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 8,2 – 7,1 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot: 215 – 186 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus) en de nieuwe BMW X6 xDrive30d (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 7,9 – 7,0 l/100 km; CO₂-uitstoot: 208 – 184 g/km volgens de WLTP-cyclus) brengt ook tal van detailupgrades met zich mee. De 3,0-liter motor heeft nu stalen zuigers in plaats van aluminium, een geoptimaliseerd olieafscheidingsproces en een nieuw Common Rail directe-injectiesysteem met elektromagnetische verstuivers.

De nieuwe dieselmotor bundelt zijn krachten met het Mild Hybrid-systeem om een maximumvermogen van 219 kW/298 pk en een maximumkoppel van 670 Nm te leveren. Daarmee sprinten de nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive30d en de nieuwe BMW X6 xDrive30d in 6,1 seconden van 0 naar 100 km/u.

Geavanceerde chassistechnologie ondersteunt sportieve capaciteiten en langeafstandscomfort.

De nieuwe BMW X5 en de nieuwe BMW X6 zijn standaard uitgerust met een adaptieve ophanging, die de stabilisatorstangen aanpast aan wijzigingen in de gewichtsverdeling en ze dienovereenkomstig versterkt. Dat geeft beide modellen hun typische sportieve veelzijdigheid en uitstekende langeafstandscomfort.

De adaptieve M ophanging, die standaard wordt aangeboden op zowel de topmodellen als de andere varianten van de nieuwe BMW X6, zorgt voor een bijzonder sterke verbinding met het koetswerk. Een adaptieve luchtvering op twee assen en het xOffroad-pakket zijn als optie verkrijgbaar. De topmodellen zijn standaard uitgerust met Integral Active Steering. Dit is als optie verkrijgbaar op alle andere modellen of als onderdeel van de adaptieve M ophanging Professional, die ook een M sportdifferentieel en een actief rolstabilisatiesysteem omvat.

Een ander onderdeel van de geavanceerde chassistechnologie is het geïntegreerde remsysteem. De standaarduitrusting omvat ook BMW 19" lichtmetalen velgen voor de nieuwe BMW X5, 20" velgen voor de nieuwe BMW X6 en 21" velgen voor de topversie van elk model. Als optie zijn lichtmetalen velgen tot 22" verkrijgbaar.

Bijkomende systemen voor geautomatiseerd rijden en parkeren.

Comfort en veiligheid in de nieuwe BMW X5 en de nieuwe BMW X6 kunnen naar een hoger niveau worden getild met een aanzienlijk uitgebreide selectie van geautomatiseerde rij- en parkeersystemen. De updates omvatten onder meer verbeterde capaciteiten voor de standaard botswaarschuwing vooraan, die nu ook het risico op een aanrijding met fietsers, voetgangers of tegenliggers bij het afslaan kan beperken. Enkele van de opties die nu beschikbaar zijn: Automatic Speed Limit Assist, uitstapwaarschuwing, actieve navigatie, Route Speed Control, noodstophulp, Lane Change Assistant en Merging Assistant.

Behalve de achteruitrijcamera en Reversing Assistant omvat het standaard parkeerhulpsysteem nu ook de functies wegrijhulpsysteem en aanhangwagenassistent. En het nieuwe, optionele Parking Assistant Pack Professional maakt het mogelijk om geautomatiseerd in en uit parkeerplaatsen te rijden en om manoeuvres over een afstand tot 200 meter van buiten de wagen uit te voeren met de My BMW App op een Apple iPhone.

BMW iDrive van de nieuwste generatie, nieuwe digitale diensten.

De nieuwste BMW iDrive-technologie gebaseerd op BMW Operating System 8 brengt zowel het BMW Curved Display als een reeks nieuwe digitale diensten naar de BMW X5 en BMW X6. De standaard BMW Live Cockpit Navigation Plus omvat ook het cloudnavigatiesysteem BMW Maps. En de optionele BMW Live Cockpit Navigation Professional trakteert klanten ook op het BMW head-Up Display en de functie Augmented View. Wanneer de wagen stilstaat, kunnen de bestuurder en voorpassagier ook inhoud van YouTube streamen en toegang krijgen tot de Bundesliga-app in de wagen (voor inhoud uit de hoogste Duitse voetbalcompetitie) op het Control Display.

Met de optionele BMW Digital Key Plus kunnen klanten hun nieuwe BMW X5 of BMW X6 vergrendelen en ontgrendelen via de draadloze UWB-technologie (Security-Enhanced Ultra-Wideband) met compatibele smartphones die het besturingssysteem iOS of Android gebruiken. Een geoptimaliseerde smartphone-integratie, de gepersonaliseerde BMW ID en een Personal eSIM, ontworpen om met nieuwe mobiele 5G-technologie te werken, zijn eveneens beschikbaar. De digitale diensten van BMW Charging voor de BMW X5 xDrive50e zijn nu geïntegreerd in de My BMW App.

The BMW X7 edition in Frozen Black metallic combines impressive options into an exclusive package.

In 2020 alone and with almost 250,000 units sold worldwide, the SAV/SAC trio from Spartanburg, USA, contributed decisively towards the success of the BMW brand. Around every eighth newly delivered BMW model was a BMW X5, X6 or X7.

Particularly striking: BMW X5 and X6 Black Vermilion edition.
The central focus of the Black Vermilion edition is the interplay between the colours black and red. For example, the BMW double kidney grille with model-specific red bars creates an effective contrast to the BMW Individual special paint finish Frozen Black metallic. On the BMW X6 Black Vermilion this visual highlight is expressed in a particularly impressive way in combination with its kidney grille Iconic Glow. The M headlights Shadow Line with BMW laser light, including accented lighting with blue X signature, complete the distinctive look of the front end. Moreover, on the exterior, the M Sport Package emphasises the dynamic character of the BMW X5 and X6 Black Vermilion editions. It comprises, among other things, specific front and rear aprons as well as the M high-gloss Shadow Line with extended options. Behind the Orbit Grey matt, 22-inch, double-spoke 742 M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres designed exclusively for these edition models, red high-gloss M Sport brake callipers stand out as a striking visual highlight.

In the interior of the BMW X5 and BMW X6 Black Vermilion editions the M Alcantara Anthracite roof liner provides for an exceptionally sophisticated ambience. A finely crafted Edition logo on the cupholder cover in BMW Individual black piano finish emphasises the limited model’s exclusiveness. The glass application Crafted Clarity on the iDrive Controller, the automatic gear selector and Start/Stop button, as well as the BMW Individual precious wood interior trim Fineline Black with aluminium inlays provide additional sophisticated accents. Driver and front seat passenger travel in comfort seats offering a multitude of adjustment options. The BMW Individual full leather trim Merino Black is additionally enhanced by edition-specific red contrast stitching for both the driver’s seat and front passenger seat. Inside the BMW X5 Black Vermilion, the red accents are also to be found on the rear seats. Likewise, the edging on both the front and rear floor mats is finished in red. Sun-protective glass with more deeply tinted rear windows beyond the B-pillar enhances passenger privacy whilst blending in harmoniously with the sporty and dynamic exterior design.

BMW X7 edition in Frozen Black metallic – individual and expressive.
Like the Black Vermilion editions, the new BMW X7 edition also has the BMW Individual special paint finish Frozen Black metallic, dispensing, however, with details in contrasting colour. The BMW M Sport brake callipers of the edition-specific, 22-inch BMW Individual Y-spoke 758 I alloy wheels in Orbit Grey matt are finished in high gloss black. Combined with the M Sport Package and the M High Gloss Shadow Line with extended options, it is this colour restraint in particular that make the 5.15-metre long and over 2-metre wide seven-seater look even more impressive. The interior of the BMW X7 edition in Frozen Black metallic provides for an elegantly discreet atmosphere thanks to the M Alcantara Anthracite roof liner, the glass application Crafted Clarity and sun-protection glass.

The BMW Group is stepping up its activities in the field of sustainability, becoming the first automotive manufacturer worldwide to equip its cars with tyres using certified sustainable natural rubber and rayon, a wood-based material used to strengthen the tyres. The company will source 22-inch tyres in the first instance exclusively from Pirelli and, from August of this year, will use them in the BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in-Hybrid (fuel consumption combined: 1.7-1.2 l/100km (WLTP), 2.1-1.6 l/100 km (NEDC); power consumption combined: 27.7-24.3 kWh/100 km (WLTP), 25.2-23.5 kWh/100 km (NEDC); CO2 emissions combined: 39-27 g/km (WLTP), 47-37 g/km (NEDC)). Certification of the rubber plantations and the complex supply chain for natural rubber and rayon takes place in accordance with the strict standards of the independent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The use of tyres made of certified natural rubber is a pioneering achievement for our industry. In this way, we are helping preserve biodiversity and forests to counteract climate change.”

Natural rubber is the basic material for many products we use in our daily lives, such as boots and mattresses. About six million small farmers worldwide are responsible for over 80% of the world’s natural rubber cultivation. In the so-called rubber belt across the tropical regions, they run farms of between one and two hectares in size under a wide variety of different conditions. Agreeing uniform social and environmental growing conditions with these millions of small individual farms is therefore a major challenge.

By far the largest share of natural rubber grown worldwide goes into tyre production. Natural rubber’s high elasticity and sturdiness currently make it irreplaceable for tyre production.

Small label, big impact

As an independent organisation, FSC has developed an internationally recognised and demanding certification standard in recent years that is used worldwide for environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the forests. The organisation, whose well-known logo is already established in the wood and paper industry, also applies this standard to products made of natural rubber.

The new 22-inch P ZERO ∗ tyre has now become the world's first tyre to receive the coveted FSC label. To earn this certification, Pirelli adapted its US plant in Rome, Georgia, to produce tyres using FSC-certified natural rubber and rayon. From there, the tyres are delivered to BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, around 370 km away, and mounted on the BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid. The star ∗ in the name indicates that the new tyre meets the BMW Group’s strict performance requirements, including particularly low rolling resistance and noise level.

Long-standing commitment to greater transparency and sustainability in the natural rubber supplier network

The use of the first tyres containing certified sustainable natural rubber and rayon at the BMW Group is the result of the company’s extensive commitment in this area. In 2019, the BMW Group joined forces with well-known tyre manufacturers, NGOs, rubber producers and consumers to create the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR). Small farmers are also represented in this initiative. The GPSNR is committed to improving social and environmental conditions for cultivation of natural rubber and pushing for more sustainability. It also implements measures to stop deforestation and make supply chains more transparent. The GPSNR currently has almost 100 members, who are responsible for about 50 percent of the global natural rubber market.

Through its activities in the GPSNR and close cooperation with its suppliers, the BMW Group is constantly working to further improve sustainability in the natural rubber supply chain. The BMW Group is stepping up these activities and plans to steadily expand its sourcing of tyres made from sustainably grown natural rubber.

The BMW Group has been working with the FSC organisation for many years (Licence code FSC-N002012). The company decided to use FSC-certified wood in the BMW i3, which was first launched onto the market in 2013. The BMW iX for release later this year will also feature FSC-certified wood. In 2017, the BMW Group and FSC advocated for further development of FSC standards for cultivation of natural rubber in Thailand.

Sustainability an integral part of all purchasing activities

Independently of these measures, the BMW Group has contractually obligated all its direct suppliers to respect human rights, comply with expanded environmental and social standards and to introduce management systems to promote occupational safety and protect the environment since 2014. This also includes protecting forests and biodiversity. These requirements must also be contractually passed on to subcontractors. BMW Group Purchasing does not rely on contractual obligations alone for this but is also implementing a large number of additional measures in a transparent process. A risk filter is used to evaluate potential supplier locations worldwide even before the call for bids. The next step is to require possible suppliers to outline their sustainability activities in a detailed questionnaire. External partners also work with internal appraisers to review selected locations. Throughout the contract period, external partners work with internal appraisers to verify compliance with sustainability requirements through questionnaires and audits. In this way, BMW Group Purchasing is able to monitor thousands of locations every year.

Sustainable mobility with the BMW X5 xDrive45e

The BMW Group has completed full lifecycle CO₂ certification for the BMW X5 xDrive45e – from raw material procurement, through the supply chain, production and use phase, all the way to recycling. If charged during the use phase with the average European electricity mix, this gives it an advantage of around 40 percent over the BMW X5 xDrive40i. If charged with green power, the advantage is around 70 percent. The electric range amounts to 77-88 kilometres (WLTP).

Munich. The market launch of the BMW M5 CS is the absolute highlight among the innovations that will enrich the BMW model range in spring 2021. The first special model based on the BMW M5 Competition takes on the top position in the BMW M GmbH range in terms of engine power, performance and exclusivity, underlining the brand's close ties with racing. Model diversity in the premium segment of the compact and mid-size class will be expanded from March 2021 with additional drive variants for the BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. What is more, attractive additions to the standard or optionally available equipment in numerous BMW model series enhance driving pleasure, comfort, individuality and safety.

A feature previously only available for high-performance BMW M GmbH automobiles will also be featured on the most powerful variants of the BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 4 Series Coupé from March 2021. For the first time, an M carbon fibre roof will be offered for the top models of both model series. Exclusive lightweight components also optimise the driving experience in the BMW M8. Newly developed M Carbon bucket seats will be available as an optional extra for the three high-performance models in the luxury segment from March 2021. The luxury sedans of the BMW 7 Series will be equipped with Integral Active Steering as standard. In addition, a nanoparticle filter will now be a new component of the standard or optional 4-zone automatic air conditioning in the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series as well as in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 models. BMW Individual Shadow Line lights complement the equipment range for the BMW X5 and BMW X6. The BMW News app will be added to the range of digital services for selected BMW models from April 2021.

High-performance sedan with exclusive racing characteristics: The BMW M5 CS.
Following the BMW M3 CS, the BMW M4 CS and the BMW M2 CS, a special model of the BMW M5 will be launched for the first time in March 2021. The most powerful and exclusive version of the high-performance sedan bears the name BMW M5 CS (combined fuel consumption: 11.3 - 10.9 l/100 km (WLTP), 11.3 - 11. 1 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 257 - 248 g/km (WLTP), 258 - 253 g/km (NEDC).

The special model is powered by the most powerful engine ever to be used in a BMW M GmbH production vehicle. The V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology generates a maximum output of 467 kW/635 hp and is thus 7 kW/10 hp more powerful than the drive unit in the BMW M5 Competition. Weighing in with 70 kilograms less weight, the BMW M5 CS completes the sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, beating the BMW M5 Competition by 0.3 seconds.

The racetrack potential of the BMW M5 CS also goes hand in hand with unrestricted suitability for everyday use. In addition to design elements for the exterior in Gold Bronze, standard equipment also features M Carbon seats for the driver and front passenger. In the rear of the BMW M5 CS, two passengers can be seated on individual seats and enjoy the outstanding driving experience.

New in the BMW 4 Series: Inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and exclusive optional extras.
The sporty character of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé will be underlined by an additional BMW M automobile and a further model variant with a particularly powerful engine from March 2021. In both cases, an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and intelligent all-wheel drive provide efficient driving pleasure. The new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km (WLTP), 5.7 - 5.3 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 164 - 150 g/km (WLTP), 149 - 140 g/km (NEDC), with its 250 kW/340 hp drive featuring BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology is also combined with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, an M sports package and an M sports differential. Thanks to the outstanding performance of the 3.0-litre engine and its maximum torque of 700 Nm, the new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

With a maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp generated from a 3.0 litres of capacity and a maximum torque of 650 Nm, the powerplant of the new BMW 430d xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.2 l/100 km (WLTP), 5.1 - 4.8 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 155 - 137 g/km (WLTP), 134 - 126 g/km (NEDC) also enables dynamic acceleration manoeuvres. It takes just 5.1 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h.

In both inline 6-cylinder diesel models, mild hybrid technology with a 48-volt starter generator provides a further increase in dynamics and efficiency. The system enables particularly intensive energy recovery in braking and thrust phases. The energy is stored in a 48-volt battery and used both for the onboard network and to generate additional drive power. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency.

For both the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and the new BMW 4 Series Convertible, the BMW Individual Brilliant White metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic and BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey metallic exterior paint finishes will also be available from March 2021. The extended BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery or the BMW Individual Merino full leather upholstery will be available in six or four colour variants respectively to ensure exclusive flair in the interior.

Dynamic charisma increased, centre of gravity lowered: M Carbon roof in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.
The new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé, just like the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé and the two corresponding top models of the BMW 3 Series Sedan, will add further touches of sporty flair by means of an exclusive lightweight construction feature. The M Carbon roof, available for these four models from March 2021, emphasises dynamic charisma and at the same time lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity further to make it even more agile.

In future, the new interior trims will be available in the M Carbon Fibre version to match. They will also be available for the BMW M440i xDrive Convertible and for all other model variants of the new BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series, in each case in conjunction with the M Sport Model equipment.

Additional all-wheel drive model variant for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The added traction, driving stability and sportiness associated with intelligent all-wheel drive can be experienced in a further model variant of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from March 2021. The new BMW 220i xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 7.3 - 6.5 l/100 km (WLTP), 6.4 - 6.1 l/100 km (NEDC); combined CO2 emissions: 165 - 149 g/km (WLTP, 147 - 139 g/km (NEDC), generates 131 kW/178 hp from a 4-cylinder petrol engine, the power being distributed between the front and rear wheels as required. The 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is in charge of power transmission. With this drive technology, the new BMW 220i xDrive Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.

The range of optional extras for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be supplemented by additional light-alloy wheels in spring 2021. 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and bicolour finish are new to the range.

BMW 7 Series now features Integral Active Steering as standard.
The superior ride comfort, cornering dynamics and agility of the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans will be enhanced from March 2021 with the help of Integral Active Steering as standard. This system optimises both agility and superior handling at higher speeds as well as comfort when manoeuvring through precisely controlled steering of the rear wheels. The latest version of the Integral Active Steering system triggers counter-steering of the rear wheels even at a particularly low speed of less than 3 km/h. This further enhances the manoeuvrability of the luxury sedans when parking and backing out, as well as when passing slowly through narrow spaces.

Nanoparticle filter as a new component of the 4-zone automatic air conditioning.
In many current BMW models, a nanoparticle filter will be part of the range of functions of the 4-zone automatic air conditioning. The system, which is unique in the competitive environment, is able to remove tiny impurities from the air flowing into the interior. The 4-zone automatic air conditioning with nanoparticle filter is part of the standard equipment in the BMW X7 and is offered as an option for the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, the BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars and the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models.

BMW Individual Shadow Line lights for the BMW X5 and BMW X6.
The range of optional equipment for the BMW X5 and BMW X6 models is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. They are available in conjunction with the optional BMW laser light and feature black inlays on the upper edge of the headlights ensuring a particularly expressive front view.

Pure race-track feeling: M Carbon bucket seats in the BMW M8.
A particularly attractive addition to the range of optional extras for the BMW M8 models allows customers to experience the fascinating performance characteristics of the high-performance sports cars even more intensively. M Carbon bucket seats will be available for the BMW M8 Competition Coupé, the BMW M8 Competition Convertible and the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé from March 2021. With their novel, structure-based design, visible carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) surfaces, integrated headrests, openings in the backrests and side sections as well as guides for multi-point seat belts, they combine racing functionality with long-distance comfort and luxurious quality of workmanship.

The M Carbon bucket seats for the driver and front passenger are electrically adjustable for height, tilt and forward/back positioning. In addition, the inclination and width of their backrests can be adjusted at the touch of a button. They feature leather and alcantara seat surfaces and are also heated. Illuminated "M8" lettering on the headrests and a memory function on the driver's side are also part of the equipment package of the M Carbon bucket seats. Their lightweight construction concept leads to a significant weight reduction compared to the standard M sports seats.

Exclusive special equipment for other BMW M automobiles.
The range of optional extras available for numerous other BMW M automobiles will also be expanded in spring 2021. For the BMW M3 Sedan and the BMW M4 Coupé, the new Skyscraper Grey metallic exterior paint finish and the extended BMW Merino leather upholstery are available in a choice of five additional colour variants.

The BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition models can also be equipped with BMW Individual Shadow Line lights in conjunction with the optional BMW laser light from April 2021. In addition, the optional 4-zone automatic air conditioning will also include a nanoparticle filter in the BMW M8 models.

New addition to the range of digital services: BMW News app.
The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional in numerous current BMW models, enables the use of a growing number of digital services. The latest innovations in this area include the BMW News app, which will be available from April 2021 as part of BMW Connected and provides the driver with selected audio content. Increased efficiency through consistent electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Efficiency becomes more diverse: World premiere for five plug-in hybrid models in the BMW 5 Series.
The range of BMW models with electrified drive systems will also be consistently expanded in autumn 2020. The expanded range of the following electrified models is especially attractive: BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 53 – 49 g/km; electric range: 47 – 57 km), BMW 530e Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 46 – 42 g/km; electric range: 52 – 57 km (WLTP)) and BMW 530e xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 50 g/km; electric range: 48 – 53 km (WLTP)). The BMW 5 Series model range now already includes five plug-in hybrid variants. In the upper mid-size class, BMW offers the largest selection of models with electrified drive.

In the new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission deliver impressive driving dynamics in a particularly efficient manner. The power of the two drive units adds up to a maximum system output of 290 kW/394 hp and is distributed between the front and rear wheels as required by the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. The brand’s hallmark combination of energy efficiency and sportiness also characterises the new Touring models, whose plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive system also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they generate a system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp in the XtraBoost mode when load requirements are particularly high.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series.
With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional models, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. This is linked to the introduction of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder diesel engines. As of autumn 2020, four mid-size models of the BMW 3 Series and three luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series will offer noticeably more dynamic performance and increased efficiency.

This twofold and BMW typical progress is achieved through further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and additionally with the aid of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency. The power required for this is generated by intensive recuperation in braking and thrust phases and stored in a 48-volt battery, which also supplies the vehicle’s electrical system.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used in four further BMW 3 Series models from November 2020. In the new BMW 330d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 125 – 116 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 132 – 123 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 119 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 4.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 136 – 127 g/km), it supports the new inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, which already provides additional driving pleasure with its maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp. Thanks to a two-stage turbocharging system and an advanced common rail injection system whose piezo injectors now inject the fuel with up to ten injections per working cycle and a maximum pressure of 2 700 bar into the combustion chambers, engine response and efficiency of the 3.0 litre engine are optimised. The new diesel engine generates its maximum torque, which has been increased by 30 to 650 Nm, between 1 500 and 2 500 rpm. The increased power of the combustion engine and the additional electrical power noticeably improve the car’s sprint capacity. For example, the new BMW 330d Sedan improves its acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds to now 5.3 seconds.

In the BMW 8 Series, 48-volt mild hybrid technology is combined with an equally new and even more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine. The BMW 840d xDrive Coupé models (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 154 - 146 g/km), BMW 840d xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 6.0 – 5.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 151 g/km) and BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 155 - 148 g/km) will be powered by a 250 kW/340 hp inline 6-cylinder engine in the future. The 15 kW/20 hp increase in top-level output also results from further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It now includes a multi-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for the high-pressure and low-pressure stages. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is generated alreadybetween 1 750 and 2 250 rpm. In the luxury sports car model range, the new drive technology enables the BMW 840d xDrive Coupé, for example, to improve its acceleration figure from a standing start to 100 km/h by 0.1 seconds to 4.8 seconds. The optimised performance characteristics of the diesel engine are accompanied by precisely adapted fine tuning of the chassis and its control systems.

The new diesel engines for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 8 Series also represent the latest state of the art with regard to emissions. They feature exhaust gas treatment technology, whose engine-proximate components consist of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. In order to optimally reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, a second metering unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-proximate SCR system.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Additional engines and new optional extras.
New engines will be available from November 2020 for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The new BMW 116i (combined fuel consumption: 5.8 – 5.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 – 124 g/km) is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 80 kW/109 hp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm. It is equipped as standard with a manual 6-speed transmission and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available. In addition, the model range will be expanded to include the new BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 134 – 126 g/km). Its 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum output of 131 kW/178 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm and is combined as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The new BMW 120i accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outstanding economy is the hallmark of the new entry-level diesel engine for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The 3-cylinder diesel engine of the new BMW 216d Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 3.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 108 – 99 g/km) provides a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. It transmits its power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The range of optional equipment for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. With the black inserts at the upper edge of the headlamps they make the front view even more powerfully expressive.

Urban Cruise Control: Increased comfort and optimised safety when driving in urban traffic.
The increased level of comfort and safety achieved through combined speed and distance control will also be available in numerous current BMW models when driving in city traffic from autumn 2020 onwards. In conjunction with the optional Driving Assistant Professional, the Urban Cruise Control function is available in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 8 Series and the BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW M5, BMW M8, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M model series. It extends the range of functions of the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function by a traffic light recognition function. In addition to vehicles and traffic signs ahead, traffic lights registered by the stereo camera are also taken into account.

In the case of traffic light signals that are clearly related to the lane you are travelling, these are automatically registered by the speed and distance control system. If the traffic light is red, the system decelerates the vehicle to a standstill. A green light signals the continuation of the journey. In a more complex intersection situation where, for example, different light signals apply to different lanes, a traffic light symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster. The driver can then confirm the light signal shown there and continue to use the automatic speed and distance control or control the speed himself. For additional comfort in city traffic there is a drive reminder function. While stationary at a traffic light, the current traffic light phase is displayed in the instrument cluster; at the beginning of the green phase, the driver also receives a signal to start driving.

The Urban Cruise Control function can also be integrated into the car at a later date by means of a Remote Software Upgrade. With the exception of the BMW 8 Series models, this option is available for vehicles of all the above-mentioned series produced from July 2020 onwards and which are equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional.

New digital services for more driving pleasure: BMW News, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with new functions, personal profile picture and simple log-in.
The latest generation of the display and control system makes it possible to use new digital services in numerous current BMW models. The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows the driver to customise what is displayed to a very high degree. From November 2020, audio content will also be tailored to the driver’s wishes and needs with BMW News. Based on the driver’s individual interests, current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is one of the particularly innovative services that features in current models with BMW Operating System 7. The digital companion, which enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”), is constantly gaining new capabilities. From autumn 2020, the operating modes MAX eDrive and AUTO eDrive or ELECTRIC and HYBRID can also be activated in the appropriately equipped plug-in hybrid models by means of a naturally spoken instruction.

Optimised options for creating a driver profile allow further customisation opportunities. From November 2020, the driver can no longer only login by entering the BMW ID manually, but also via the My BMW App as well, making the process very convenient. A QR code generated for this purpose can be displayed on the Control Display, which can be scanned using a smartphone. The personal driver profile data can then be transferred to the vehicle. Also new: The driver can add a photo of his choice to his individual profile.

BMW X1 and BMW X2: New headlamp variants and BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features.
Adaptive LED headlights will be available for the compact BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupé from November 2020. They optimise visibility when driving at night, among other things by means of a high beam matrix function. This feature is able to increase the range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users. To achieve this, the high beam is divided into several LED segments that can be activated and deactivated independently of each other to adapt how the road is illuminated to the respective traffic situation.

In addition, the striking BMW Individual Shadow Line lights are available as a new option for the BMW X2 and the BMW X1. The sporty appearance of the BMW X2 can be further enhanced by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features. In addition to the high-gloss black side window surrounds, this option includes a black frame for the BMW kidney grille and tailpipe trims in chrome black.

New paint finishes allow for expressive individualisation.
New additions to the range of paint finishes for numerous models will be introduced in autumn 2020 allowing for even greater levels of individualisation. The new San Remo Green metallic paint finish will also be available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé in future. For the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, the colours Dravit Grey metallic and Sparkling Brown metallic have been added to the range. In addition, the BMW Individual special paintwork finishes Grigio Telesto metallic, Urban Green metallic, Frozen Black metallic, Petrol Mica metallic, Ruby Red metallic, Avus Blue metallic and British Racing Green metallic are also available for the large BMW X models. 

For the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) new paint finishes will also be available from November 2020. The purely electrically driven models will be available with paint finishes in Cashmere Silver with accents in BMW i Blue and Galvanic Gold with accents in Frozen Grey metallic and Fluid Black with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

New body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

Munich. The BMW X5 and the BMW X6 now also feature highly efficient mild hybrid technology to optimise the spontaneous power delivery and effectiveness of the drive system. As from May 2020, the new BMW X5 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.4 – 5.9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 167 – 154 g/km) and the new BMW X6 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 164 – 153 g/km) will boast a newly developed straight six-cylinder diesel engine with a 48-volt starter generator. Thanks to the power output of the combustion engine being increased to 250 kW/340 hp, and the electrically assisted mild hybrid system, the superior forward thrust of the luxury-class Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) is experienced even more intensively.

Sporty and agile handling on the road as well as robust off-road versatility are hallmarks of the driving characteristics of the BMW X5 and the BMW X6. With the strong presence of its powerful and elegant design and a luxurious interior ambience also in the current model generation, the two founders of each of their segments make an impressive statement. Moreover, high-quality comfort features and advanced technology in the areas of operation and digitalisation contribute towards the driving pleasure experienced in the two BMW X models. The latest innovations in the field of drive technology now complement the engine portfolio of the SAV and the SAC with a diesel engine combining pulling power and efficiency in a particularly convincing manner. 

Straight six-cylinder diesel engine with multi-stage turbocharging and optimised direct fuel injection.
The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology featured by the new 3-litre straight six-cylinder power plant comprises a two-stage turbocharging system and Common Rail piezo direct fuel injection. The spontaneous response characteristics of the supercharging system are enhanced by variable turbo geometry for the high and low pressure stages. With up to 10 injections per cycle, the injectors feed fuel to the combustion chamber at a pressure of up to 2,700 bar. The new pressure sensor integrated into the injector ensures exceptionally precise dosing as well as favourable fuel economy and clean combustion.

The new diesel engine develops a maximum torque of 700 Nm becoming available between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine achieves a maximum power output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4,400 rpm. Whether on the road or on off-road terrain, power is transferred in the new BMW X5 xDrive40d and the new BMW X6 xDrive40d via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel technology, which – thanks to a rear-wheel accentuated set-up – enhances agility during dynamic cornering.  

Two-stage NOX exhaust gas treatment, which was introduced as a standard feature on diesel models in 2012, has been further developed. This component, which is close to the engine, now comprises an oxidation catalyst converter and an SCR coating on the particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions a second dosage unit has been integrated at the outlet of the SCR system. Therefore, the new BMW X5 xDrive40d and the new BMW X6 xDrive40d now already comply with the mandatory regulations of the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not take effect until the beginning of 2021.

Mild hybrid technology: Additional electric output of 8 kW/11 hp increases sprinting power whilst reducing consumption.
The new diesel engine is assisted by the 48-volt starter generator of the mild hybrid system. The additional electric output of 8 kW/11 hp promotes both spontaneous power delivery and effectiveness of the drive system. Electric boost enhances dynamics when starting and accelerating. Therefore, the new BMW X5 xDrive40d and the new BMW X6 xDrive40d are each able to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.5 seconds. Thanks to the additional electric output,
the combustion engine is able at constant speeds to run particularly frequently within an efficiency-optimised load range, thus reducing consumption peaks.

The starter generator obtains the necessary energy from the 48-volt battery, which also supplies all electric driving functions with power via the 12-volt vehicle electrical system. It is charged by means of recuperation during acceleration and braking phases and also through a targeted combustion engine load point increase. Ride comfort also benefits significantly from the mild hybrid technology featured in the new BMW X5 xDrive40d and the new BMW X6 xDrive40d. The supportive effect of the 48-volt starter generator facilitates extremely fast and comfortable load change responses. Moreover, the powerful generator provides for spontaneous and low-vibration starting and re-starting of the combustion engine when using the Auto Start Stop and “sailing” functions. As a result, it is also possible to not only disconnect the engine during the sailing phases, but also to switch it off entirely. In order to make use of the economising effect as frequently as possible, the comfort-optimised sailing function is now no longer only available in the ECO-PRO mode, but also in the COMFORT mode of the Driving Experience Control feature.

BMW is making further advances in its push to boost the driving pleasure and efficiency of its current model range with the introduction of state-of-the-art mild-hybrid technology in autumn 2019. Fitting a 48V starter-generator in the BMW 5 Series for the first time has the additional benefit of increasing power output and reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Meanwhile, the BMW 330e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 43 – 37 g/km), BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.8 – 1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 41 – 36 g/km) and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 49 – 46 g/km) plug-in hybrid models will offer even greater versatility and everyday practicality from November 2019 when a trailer coupling joins the options list.

New optional extras designed to further enhance sporting prowess and driving comfort will also be made available for numerous other models from autumn 2019. Some of the most tempting additions to the options lists include the M Performance package for the BMW M135i xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.8 l/100 km [39.8 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 162 – 155 g/km), BMW Laserlight for the BMW 5 Series and the M Carbon roof for the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. Finally, new exterior and interior options open up a wealth of possibilities for individualising the new BMW X5, new BMW X6 and new BMW X7.

BMW 5 Series: mild-hybrid technology for extra sprinting power and efficiency.

In autumn 2019, BMW will present another element in its powertrain electrification strategy to accompany the ongoing expansion of its plug-in hybrid line-up. Mild-hybrid technology will make its debut in the BMW 5 Series, where it will help to both lighten the combustion engine’s workload and boost its power, meaning not just superior efficiency but sharper performance. Fitting an extremely powerful 48V starter-generator and a second battery significantly enhances the functionality of Brake Energy Regeneration by enabling the energy recuperated when braking or on the overrun to be harnessed not just for powering electrical vehicle functions, but for generating additional drive power. For this, the 48V starter-generator acts likes an electric drive unit that assists the engine, allowing the latter to operate within an efficiency-optimised load range as frequently as possible. An electric overboost function, meanwhile, injects an extra dose of dynamism when accelerating under full throttle.

The 48V starter-generator has the additional benefit of allowing the engine to be switched off with remarkably little vibration and restarted more smoothly when using the Auto Start Stop function. This also makes it possible to completely shut off the engine in coasting mode, rather than just disconnecting it from the drivetrain. As of November 2019, mild-hybrid technology will be fitted as standard on the BMW 520d Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 4.3 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 108 –112 g/km), BMW 520d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 4.5 – 4.7 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 117 – 123 g/km), BMW 520d Touring (fuel consumption combined: 4.3 – 4.5 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 114 – 118 g/km) and BMW 520d xDrive Touring (fuel consumption combined: 4.7 – 4.9 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 124 – 128 g/km). The fuel consumption figures of the 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel engine that powers this quartet of models will be cut by up to 0.3 litres per 100 kilometres as a result.

The enhancements to the BMW 5 Series range also include the introduction of BMW Laserlight on further model variants. This lighting technology – which increases high-beam range to a maximum 650 metres – will be added to the wealth of innovations aboard both the BMW M550d xDrive Sedan and BMW M550d xDrive Touring from November 2019.

BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid models now also available with a trailer coupling.

The hallmark sporting flair of BMW cars, outstanding efficiency and the option of driving with zero local emissions highlight the progressive character of the plug-in hybrid BMW 3 Series and 5 Series models. The BMW 330e Sedan, BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan can also be ordered with almost the complete range of optional extras available for the conventionally powered model variants, allowing driving pleasure and comfort to be tailored to individual requirements. A trailer coupling with an electrically pivoting hitch ball will be added to the list of options in November 2019, further enhancing the plug-in hybrid models’ practical value in everyday driving. These three models will have a maximum trailer load of 750 kilograms.

BMW 1 Series: M Performance package for the BMW M135i xDrive.

Model-specific design features showcase the performance capabilities of the new BMW M135i xDrive even in its standard guise. But now customers will be able to lend the 225 kW/306 hp range-topper’s standout sporting credentials even greater visual impact by opting for the new M Performance package. Available from November 2019, its special 18‑inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and the deletion of the storage package reduce vehicle weight by around ten kilograms. This results in a 0.1-second improvement in the car’s 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time, to 4.7 seconds. Added to which, the new M Performance package for the BMW 135i xDrive brings exterior mirror caps and exhaust tailpipes in a Black painted finish and a mesh-design BMW kidney grille in High-gloss Black with a surround painted in the same colour.

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe: M Carbon roof shaves off extra weight.

The new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe brings genuine sports car feel to the occupants of its four full-size seats. The M Carbon exterior package available since launch already accents the car’s dynamic verve with some precise touches. And from November 2019, the choice of optional extras for the four-door luxury sports car will expand to include an M Carbon roof, which will be available as an individual item for the BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe and in conjunction with the M Sport package for the other model variants. As well as creating a look clearly inspired by racing cars, the M Carbon roof brings about a further reduction in weight. Interior trim strips in Carbon Fibre can also be ordered as an optional extra for the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe for the first time.

BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7: new customisation options.

The appearance, interior ambience and comfort levels of the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 can now be attuned even more precisely to personal preferences thanks to a number of new equipment options. M multifunction front seats are just one of the optional features due to become available for the executive- and luxury-class BMW X models from December 2019. Quite apart from their outstanding comfort, the seats also offer a wide range of adjustment options, all operated electrically. They can also be upgraded by the addition of massage and ventilation functions for even greater comfort on long journeys.

Customers seeking the ultimate in exclusivity can look forward to the BMW Individual Composition, which will be offered for the new BMW X5, new BMW X6 and new BMW X7 from December 2019. This equipment package comprises a selection of highly exclusive options for the exterior and interior boasting exceptional material quality and workmanship. 22-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels and a BMW Individual paint finish ensure the BMW X models cut a stylish figure. Inside, BMW Individual Merino full leather trim, a BMW Individual headliner in Alcantara and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black create a sense of high luxury. 

The options list for the new BMW X6 also now includes a load compartment package comprising sliding rails, non-slip rails and retaining nets. Interior trim strips in Ash Grain Brown or Fineline Stripe and Vernasca design-perforated leather trim in Ivory White add to the choice of customisation options for the cabin. Paint finishes in Sapphire Black metallic and Sophisto Grey brilliant effect metallic and the BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and Ametrine metallic have now been added to the colour palette for customers wishing to give the Sports Activity Coupe’s exterior a particularly striking look. An M Carbon rear spoiler and M Carbon mirror caps can also be specified to bring the car’s sporting genes even further to the fore.

The Adaptive M suspension Professional optionally available for the new BMW X5 gives it far greater poise in dynamic driving situations. This optional extra, comprising active roll stabilisation, the M Sport differential and Integral Active Steering, will also be available for the BMW X5 xDrive40i and BMW X5 xDrive30d from December 2019. The functionality of the Driving Assistant Professional will be enhanced in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 with the addition of the new Lane Change Assistant, which aids the driver with automated steering movements during overtaking manoeuvres.

Driving Assistant Professional brings real-time 3D visualisation of the surrounding area to the instrument cluster.

The Driving Assistant Professional offers drivers an extremely wide range of assistance in monotonous and complex traffic situations. Its range of functions now includes 3D visualisation of the area around the car, which has been available in all models equipped with BMW Live Cockpit Professional since July 2019. The system uses the data supplied by the driver assistance systems’ cameras and sensors to generate a real-time three-dimensional graphic image of the vehicle’s surroundings. The image appears in the centre of the instrument cluster and helps to give the driver a clearer overview of what is happening on the road, especially when driving on multi-lane highways. This means the driver can also register the position of other road users driving in front of or alongside them when they glance down at the speedometer or rev counter.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with separate iDrive menu and individual configurability.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant enjoys additional functionality gains. Since July 2019 users have been able to access all the relevant settings via a separate menu in the BMW Operating System 7.0. This means the driver can adjust the functioning of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant according to the driving situation at hand. For example, the intelligent and proactive functions can be switched on and off, and notifications and phone calls can be anonymised if passengers are on board.

Munich. With the latest generation of the security vehicle built on the basis of a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) for the luxury class segment, the premium carmaker BMW now meets the increased need for individual protection and superiority in any situation. The new BMW X5 Protection VR6 (combined fuel consumption: 13.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 298 g/km*) offers private individuals and persons at risk customised protection against violent attacks, kidnapping or organised crime. This is often a decisive criterion, especially in regions like South America, Africa or Russia.

The integration of series components and additional safety-related equipment of the BMW X5 Protection VR6 into the vehicle architecture was already taken account of during development. Production is carried out according to the stringent production standards defined by the BMW Group. Thus the BMW X5 Protection VR6 combines a standard range of integrated protective equipment with the driving dynamics, comfort and advanced technology of the BMW X5. This is complemented by the equally supreme and discreet appearance of the new security vehicle, which is almost identical to the production model in terms of driving characteristics, high-grade interior and design.

The new BMW X5 Protection VR6 fulfils the requirements of resistance class VR6 in accordance with the internationally recognised official test criteria of the VPAM (Prüfstellen für Angriffshemmende Materialien und Konstruktionen; Associations of Testing Institutes for Attack Resistant Materials and Constructions). The official certification was carried out according to the Guidelines for Bullet Resistant Vehicles (BRV 2009), Explosive Resistant Vehicles (ERV 2010) and PAS 300, which define the bullet and explosive force resistance of security vehicles.

Maximum protection thanks to a holistic safety concept.

The integration of the protective equipment rendering the new BMW X5 a security vehicle of the resistance class VR6 was already taken into account during the development of the SAV. In this way, it was possible to implement a holistic safety concept comprising all areas of passive and active passenger protection. The moulded armour-plating components and the security glazing were developed exclusively for each model. They blend in harmoniously with the overall vehicle concept in terms of function and design. Therefore, both outside and inside, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is barely distinguishable from a conventional production vehicle. The anonymity resulting from this constitutes an additional safety aspect.

In contrast to retro-fitted armouring, there are also decisive advantages with respect to the effectiveness of the protective equipment and handling characteristics. The holistic safety concept of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 makes it possible to already identify during the development stage potential weaknesses such as body joints and transitions between metal and glazing and to integrate effective protective measures. Certification includes the complete vehicle and not just the materials used. This is the only way to make a realistic assessment of the effectiveness of the model-specific protective cell. Likewise, the suspension and brakes on the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 are aligned to the increased weight vs. the production vehicle in order to ensure hallmark BMW agility also in critical driving situations.

Protected space: armoured passenger compartment and security glazing. 

The interior of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 offers passengers an extremely high level of protection against attacks with firearms and/or explosive devices. The key element of the protective equipment is the armoured passenger compartment of the SAV. Moulded components made from high-strength steel adapt perfectly to the contour of the body within the area of the doors, side frame, roof and front wall. Furthermore, an aluminium underbody splinter shield, the likewise armoured luggage compartment partition and security glazing are all standard and contribute towards a comprehensive protection of the interior. Multilayered safety glass with a thickness of approx. 33 mm for the windscreen, doors and luggage compartment partition wall also withstands attacks by impact weapons and is fitted with an internal polycarbonate layer as additional splinter protection.  Moreover, penetration by bullets or fragments is prevented by tightly sealed protection and overlapping amour-plating, e.g. within the sensitive areas of door gaps and bodywork joints as well as the transitions between body panels and glazing.

The combination of amour-plated bodywork and security glazing facilitates effective protection against attacks by handguns and long firearms using ammunition up to a calibre of 7.62 × 39 FeC or 7.62 × 39 SC respectively, as used in weapons of the type AK-47, a most commonly used weapon in the world. Furthermore, the armoured passenger compartment withstands lateral blasts of up to 15 kilograms of TNT from a distance of four metres. Innovative so-called Post Blast Protective Technology for the security glazing ensures particularly effective protection against secondary attacks. Even following a blast, all windows remain firmly in position, thus eliminating any formation of gaps between glazing and body.

The armour-plated floor offers protection against hand grenades of the type DM51. Enhanced underbody reinforcement comprising fibre composite materials, which also withstands attack by hand grenades of the type HG85, is optionally available. A particularly extensively armoured roof is available as a further special option. The additional reinforcement comprising security steel and fibre composite materials offers certified protection against drone attacks with explosive charges of the category DTG5, which, inter alia, includes up to 200 grams of C4 and over 500 fragments.

A further model-specific, integral component of the standard equipment for the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is the self-sealing fuel tank. A special sheathing ensures that the tank closes automatically following an attack in order to prevent fuel spillage. Standard runflat tyres with reinforced sidewalls allow the driver to continue the journey even after a complete loss of tyre pressure. Optional model-specific post crash functions also serve to retain mobility in extreme situations. They ensure that the engine of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is not switched off after a collision and that the energy supply is not interrupted.

Superior engines, model-specific suspension.

Not only in terms of design is the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 almost indistinguishable from the corresponding production model. A high degree of agility on the road and impressive off-road performance provides perfect conditions for safely mastering any situation. The necessary power comes from an extremely efficient V8 petrol engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The technology package comprises two turbo chargers located within the V space between the cylinder banks, one operating at an increased maximum pressure of 350 bar and the latest versions of the fully variable valve control system VALVETRONIC as well as variable twin VANOS camshaft control.

Spontaneous response and superior power development characterise the new eight-cylinder in the engine portfolio for the BMW X5. From a 4.4-litre displacement it mobilises a maximum power output of 390 kW/530 hp within a speed range of between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm. The power unit delivers a maximum torque of 750 Nm at 1,800 rpm, which remains available up to 4,600 rpm. Therefore, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is by far the most powerful vehicle within the competitive environment. The supreme pulling power of its V8 engine facilitates acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Top speed of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is electronically limited to 210 km/h.

Design and tuning of the suspension for the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 are both oriented towards the outstanding engine performance and the model-specific weight of the security vehicle. The components and systems, which have been precisely aligned and combined into a harmonious overall package, guarantee maximum agility as well as an outstanding level of comfort. The construction of the suspension comprises a double wishbone front axle and a five-arm rear axle as well as a specifically reinforced steel spring system and electronically controlled dampers with independent characteristic diagrams. 20-inch light alloy wheels with mixed tyres permit enhanced lateral acceleration and maximum track stability during dynamic cornering. The sports brake system also guarantees constantly high braking performance even under extreme conditions.

Active Roll Stabilisation contributes additionally to the supreme handling characteristics of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6. The vehicle’s electric swivel motors ensure fast and precise compensation of body roll during dynamic cornering. Furthermore, they actively counter the vibrations triggered by unevenness on one side of the road. As a result, the vehicle’s self-steering and load change behaviour are both noticeably optimised. Therefore, Active Roll Stabilisation enhances the comfort, agility and stability of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6.

Moreover, the standard equipment of the security vehicle also includes Integral Active Steering. The front and rear wheels steer in opposing directions or turn in the same direction depending on the current speed. Thus, agility during cornering and stability during lane change are enhanced, as are the manoeuvrability of the vehicle in city traffic and parking.  

Comprehensive comfort and safety features, individual options.

Thanks to its integrated safety concept, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is equipped to cope with every-day traffic conditions as well as those situations requiring special protection and flexible reactions. At the same time, it offers the degree of sportiness, versatility and comfort that is characteristic of the BMW X5. There are four seats available in the generously sized interior. Due to the holistic development concept, convenient entry and exit as well as all-round visibility offered by the production vehicle are fully retained.

The windscreen and front section of the side windows come as standard with heating function. The security glazing features electric windows on the driver’s side. Optionally, electric windows can also be installed at the passenger’s side. In addition, the opening height of the windows at the front can be limited to around ten centimetres to enable communication with the outside world and the exchange of documents while preventing larger objects from entering the vehicle.

Standard model-specific features of the BMW X5 Protection VR6 include an intercom and an attack alarm system. The intercom facilitates communication with persons outside the vehicle without the need to open doors or windows. For this purpose, exterior mirror-integrated microphones, an external loudspeaker and a hands-free microphone, which is installed in the roof liner, as well as additional internal loudspeakers, are used. The attack alarm function ensures at the push of a button that the doors are automatically locked and the windows on the driver’s and passenger’s side are closed. Furthermore, audible and visual alarms are activated. Control elements for the system as well as further model-specific functions are installed in an additional switch panel in front of the gear selector lever.

Standard equipment features include, inter alia, 4-zone automatic climate control, a hi-fi loudspeaker system, Ambient Light, Automatic Soft Close for the doors and the M leather steering wheel. Additional standard features are the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, the multi-display set-up of which comprises a fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch control display enabling the driver of the BMW X5 Protection VR6 to use the diverse online-based services from BMW Connected and BMW ConnectedDrive. This also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, a system that facilitates the operation of numerous functions by means of natural voice commands.

The range of optional equipment also includes, inter alia, comfort seats, Active Seat Ventilation and a massage function, Rear Seat Entertainment Professional and glass applications for selected control elements. Furthermore, all exterior colours, seat upholsteries and interior trim strips available for the SAV can be chosen for individualising the BMW X5 Protection VR6. Additional ease of manoeuvrability is provided by a reversing camera and Surround View, including the Remote 3D View function, which transmits a live image of the vehicle and its surroundings to the customer’s smartphone. BMW Laser Light with Selective Beam, which increases the high beam range to more than 500 metres, is also available for the security vehicle as an alternative to the standard LED headlights.

Moreover, additional optional features designed to suit each model are available for each desired purpose. Therefore, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 can be additionally equipped, for example, with LED front flashers in the radiator grille, rear flashers, roof-mounted light beacons including signal tone system, a roof antenna with additional receiver for digital radio as well as armour-plating for the vehicle batteries. A pennant holder is also available for representation purposes.

The new BMW X5 Protection VR6: a genuine BMW for customised protection.

Like all of the Bavarian brand’s security vehicles, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 was subjected to a comprehensive testing regime. This includes test and calibration drives within the framework of the serial development process, which guarantee reliable performance and function also under extreme conditions.

The security vehicle is already fitted with its unique suspension technology at the BMW Spartanburg plant in the US federal state of South Carolina, where the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is produced alongside the production model variants of the SAV. The subsequent integration of protective equipment and further model-specific safety features by highly qualified experts at the manufacturer’s special plant in Toluca, Mexico, offers uncompromising implementation of the holistic safety concept. As opposed to retro-fitted armoured vehicles, which may compromise security or have components subjected to excessive loads, production is carried out according to stringent BMW quality standards.

Ballistic testing is carried out by an independent state testing authority to verify the resistance effect of the armouring and security glazing in accordance with internationally recognised guidelines. However, the ballistic tests exceed by far the usual requirements. In addition to the required 90 and 45-degree ballistic tests, the test scenario is supplemented by gunfire from additional angles in order to best reflect realistic conditions. The official testing and certification of the entire vehicle provides evidence of the reliability of the safety concept as a whole.

Unique experience: the first BMW security vehicle was built more than 40 years ago.

All over the world, private individuals, officials and celebrities alike rely on security vehicles from BMW. The high reputation is built not least on a unique tradition. The BMW Group has more than 40 years of experience in the development and production of security vehicles with model-specific protective equipment. As early as in 1978, BMW presented the first security vehicle based on a BMW 7 Series sedan. Even then, the BMW 733i High Security offered a holistic security concept and hence considerable advantages compared to retro-fitted security vehicles. For each of the following generations, a high security version of the luxury sedan was also produced.

Further security vehicles were built based on the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 5 Series. In 2004, the BMW X5 Security was the first Sports Activity Vehicle with model-specific protective equipment to arrive on the market. In 2009, the BMW X5 Security Plus was the first vehicle of its kind to comply with the requirements of resistance class 6. With the new BMW X5 Protection VR6, the fourth generation of the SAV is now offered as a security vehicle. The equipment features designed to offer protection against attacks and other hazards have been consistently further developed during the course of time. Thus, once again, the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 sets benchmarks in the protection of persons at risk.

Munich. BMW will also be injecting many of the models not affected by its ongoing model offensive with added variety and appeal during the summer of 2019. Following the successful launch of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, its choice of power units has now been expanded. New engines are also fitted in the BMW 8 Series Coupe, BMW 8 Series Convertible and BMW 5 Series Sedan. Elsewhere, the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will also be available with a six-speed manual gearbox from July 2019.

The portfolio of plug-in hybrid models is also set to grow in summer 2019, thanks to additions such as the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 49 – 46 g/km) with intelligent all-wheel drive. All plug-in hybrid models will now come with new battery cell technology to boost their electric range and will also feature acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. The BMW X2 will come with LED headlights and LED foglamps as standard from July 2019. Last but not least, new optional extras, exterior paint finishes, leather variants and interior trim strips will open up further scope for customisation in many model ranges.

BMW 3 Series Sedan: additional power units, new body colours and options.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan will serve up its distinctive brand of driving pleasure in a number of new formats from July 2019, when an ultra-sporty representative with a straight-six petrol engine and BMW xDrive, another three all-wheel-drive variants and a plug-in hybrid model are added to the line-up. As a result, customers will now have a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid drive system. Five of the power units will combine with all-wheel drive, either as standard or optionally.

Spearheading the model range is the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 l/100 km [37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 172 g/km), which is powered by a new 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. An eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive, an M Sport differential and bespoke chassis technology combine to keep the engine’s exceptional power planted firmly on the road and deliver a supremely assured and exhilarating drive. The likewise standard sports exhaust system produces a soundtrack to match. The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.

From July 2019, intelligent all-wheel drive will be available in combination with another three engines. The trio of models benefiting from the superior traction, directional stability and agility this brings will be the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.9 l/100 km [44.84 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 143 – 134 g/km), BMW 330i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.2 l/100 km [43.5 – 45.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 147 – 141 g/km) and BMW 330d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.4 – 5.1 l/100 km [52.3 – 55.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 140 – 134 g/km).

The new BMW 330e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 43 – 37 g/km) delivers a particularly appealing blend of driving pleasure and efficiency. The plug-in hybrid model’s four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive unit join forces to generate system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp when the newly developed XtraBoost mode is engaged. This enables the BMW 330e Sedan to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 6.0 seconds. At the same time, it is capable of a maximum electric range from 59 to 66 kilometres (37 – 41 miles) courtesy of state-of-the-art battery technology.

M Sport suspension will also be available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan (with the exception of the M Sport model) from July 2019, as will Adaptive M suspension. Both the optional suspension systems combine with Variable Sport Steering.

The new BMW Individual paint finishes Citrine Black metallic, Oxide Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Grey metallic and Brilliant White metallic create extra scope for customisation. Customers will also have the option of a BMW Individual leather steering wheel and three different BMW Individual interior trim strip designs from July 2019. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual Merino full leather trim – which wraps the upper section of the instrument panel and the door shoulders in black fulled leather, too – will also be added to the options list. The two leather trim variants are each available in a choice of five colours. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino also features as part of the first BMW Individual Composition for the sports sedan. Other items in the Composition include 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual paint finish, sports seats, the BMW Individual leather steering wheel and an anthracite BMW Individual headliner. The M Sport Individual model is another new option combining the M Sport model’s equipment features with ultra-stylish details, such as 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual exterior paint finish, BMW Individual interior trim strips, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and the BMW Individual leather steering wheel.

BMW 5 Series: new V8 engine, plug-in hybrid model now also with all-wheel drive, attractive optional extras and packages.

A generation change for the V8 engine and another plug-in hybrid model make the range of drive systems available for the BMW 5 Series even more appealing. From July 2019 the BMW M550i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.0 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.25 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 227 – 225 g/km) will be fitted with the latest update of the eight-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. The new V8 has an optimised crankcase and larger turbochargers positioned in the “V” between the cylinder banks, and develops maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp plus peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The eight-cylinder teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive and model-specific chassis technology to generate standout dynamics.

From July 2019 the latest-generation high-voltage battery will give the BMW 530e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.8 – 1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 41 – 36 g/km) a longer all-electric operating range. The plug-in hybrid model will now also be available with intelligent all-wheel drive. The link-up of four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive system endow the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan with system output of 185 kW/252 hp.

A new BMW Individual Composition will be available for all BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring model variants from July 2019. The precisely coordinated design and equipment features for the exterior and interior include a BMW Individual paint finish and 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium satinated, comfort seats with active seat ventilation, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino, a BMW Individual leather steering wheel, an Anthracite-coloured BMW Individual headliner, ambient lighting, a BMW Individual instrument panel in black leather and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW 8 Series: new six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, optional M Sport seats, additional paint finishes and leather trim variants.

Another engine option and four new model variants inject extra variety into the line-up of power units for the new BMW 8 Series luxury sports car. From July 2019 the BMW 8 Series Coupe and BMW 8 Series Convertible will also be offered with a new six-cylinder in-line-petrol engine developing 250 kW/340 hp. It teams up with rear-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.3 – 7.2 l/100 km [38.7 –39.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 167 – 164 g/km) and new BMW 840i Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 – 7.4 l/100 km [37.7 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 170 – 168 g/km), and with intelligent all-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i xDrive Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.7 – 7.5 l/100 km [36.7 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 174 – 172 g/km) and new BMW 840i xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.8 – 7.7 l/100 km [36.2 - 36.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 178 – 175 g/km).

The engine line-up for the BMW 8 Series also includes a V8 option and a six-cylinder in-line diesel unit. All model variants stand out with their captivating performance attributes, which can be enjoyed in even greater richness and depth in the M Sport seats now added to the options list. As well as attention-grabbing bucket-seat contours and safety belts with accent strips in BMW M GmbH colours, the M Sport seats also feature 3D quilting, perforated central sections and bespoke stitching. Added to which, BMW 8 Series customers will also be able to specify BMW Individual full-leather appointments in eight colour variants from July 2019, plus BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips in Black Ash Silver Effect high-gloss and Carbon Fibre.

Ultra-classy exterior paint finishes have been added to the spectrum of options available. For example, customers can now also order their BMW 8 Series Coupe or BMW 8 Series Convertible in the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. The BMW 8 Series Convertible can also be ordered with the BMW Individual finishes Frozen Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Dark Brown metallic, Frozen Arctic Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Silver, Frozen Cashmere Silver, Pure Metal Silver, Brilliant White metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic, Aventurine Red metallic and Almandine Brown metallic.

BMW X2: LED headlights now standard, additional light-alloy wheels, optional M Sport braking system.

The BMW X2 will come as standard from July 2019 with LED headlights with extended features. Their adaptive light distribution ensures optimum road illumination in urban areas, when turning off a road and through corners. LED front foglamps will also be part of standard specification for the compact Sports Activity Coupe. Options will include five new light-alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch formats and two new upholstery variants.

The M Sport braking system fitted as standard on the BMW X2 M35i (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.9 l/100 km [39.8 – 40.9 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 161 – 158 g/km) will now be available as an option for all other variants of the BMW X2. The Navigation option will now include an 8.8 inch Control Display with touchscreen functionality in place of the previous 6.5-inch version. And if the Navigation Plus option is specified, the display will have a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches.

BMW X3 and BMW X4: M Sport seats, new M Sport Individual equipment line.

New optional extras will be added to the range for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in summer 2019 to give the duo yet more appeal. The Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe will be available with the option of M Sport seats with distinct bucket-seat styling and special design features for the M Sport model, BMW X3 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.1 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.0 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 207 – 206 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.4 l/100 km [43.5 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 172 – 169 g/km), BMW X4 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.0 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.4 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 206 – 205 g/km) and BMW X4 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km [42.8 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 173 – 170 g/km), as well as with additional interior trim strip variants.

The new M Sport Individual model available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 from August 2019 brings together a number of high-quality touches that add to their dynamic prowess, while also giving them an even more stylish and exclusive aura. The equipment features of the M Sport model are combined with highlights such as a BMW Individual paint finish, 21-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW X5 and BMW X7: new power units, plus more exterior paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and leather trim variants.

The choice of power units for the new BMW X5 will be expanded with the addition of a new entry-level engine in the form of a four-cylinder diesel available for the Sports Activity Vehicle from August 2019. The two-litre engine in the new BMW X5 xDrive25d (fuel consumption combined: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km [45.6 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 162 – 150 g/km) develops maximum output of 170 kW/231 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) with the help of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising multi-stage turbocharging and common-rail direct injection. The efficient diesel engine teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The engine’s emission control system includes an SCR catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions, helping the new BMW X5 xDrive25d to satisfy the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions norm.

The summer of 2019 will also see the launch of another exceptionally efficient version of the Sports Activity Vehicle in the form of the BMW X5 xDrive45e (petrol consumption combined: 2.0 – 1.7 l/100 km [141.2 – 166.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 23.5 – 20.3 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 39 g/km). This plug-in hybrid model is powered by a combination of a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and an electric motor, which together generate system output of 290 kW/394 hp. The second-generation BMW X5 with electrified powertrain accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system is on hand to deliver sporty driving pleasure on the road and supremely assured performance off it by distributing the drive power from both engine and motor to all four wheels. The latest battery cell technology on board the new X5 xDrive45e helps it to cover distances of up to 80 kilometres (50 miles) on electric power alone.

Customers will also enjoy an even wider choice of optional extras. The body colour Manhattan metallic, 22-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design, the BMW Individual Alcantara headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features will all be added to the BMW X5 options list from August 2019.

New options are being made available for the new BMW X7, too. From August 2019, it will be possible to upgrade the cabin of the luxury segment’s first ever Sports Activity Vehicle with BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in three different colours and a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White Alcantara. The palette of colours for the exterior will now expand to include the Manhattan metallic shade and BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and Ametrine metallic. And the BMW X7 can likewise now be specified with BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features.

BMW Z4: entry-level engine now also available with manual gearbox.

The 145 kW/197 hp four-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will be partnered by a six-speed manual gearbox as standard from July 2019. The entry-level version of the open-top sports car will also be optionally available with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

Plug-in hybrid models with new battery cell technology and acoustic protection for pedestrians.

From summer 2019, the new BMW 330e Sedan, new BMW 530e Sedan, new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan and new BMW X5 xDrive45e will be joined in the line-up of plug-in hybrid models boasting the very latest battery cell technology by the new BMW 225xe Active Tourer (petrol consumption combined: 2.1 – 1.9 l/100 km [134.5 – 148.7 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.2 – 13.5 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 42 g/km) and the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan models with electrified powertrains. The newly developed high-voltage batteries further increase efficiency at the same time as boosting the electric range.

From summer 2019, all plug-in hybrid models will be equipped with acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. When driving on electric power, an unmistakable sound specially created for electrified BMW models is generated using a system of speakers. The sound produced at low speeds has been designed to announce the car’s presence acoustically without affecting acoustic comfort for its occupants.

New optional extra: BMW Drive Recorder - for the Belgian market only.

The BMW Drive Recorder is another new addition to the options list. It can be ordered in conjunction with Parking Assistant Plus and is available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, new BMW X5 and new BMW X7. The BMW Drive Recorder uses the cameras of the various driver assistance systems to record video footage from different points around the vehicle, before saving the recordings so they can be either watched later on the Control Display when the car is stationary or exported via the USB port.

Drivers can therefore shoot videos while driving through spectacular scenery, for example, or performing impressive manoeuvres on the race track, and then send them to their mobile device and share them. Recordings can be up to 40 seconds in length, comprising the 20 seconds of video saved immediately prior to the Drive Recorder being activated and the next 20 seconds. The Drive Recorder can be started at any time from the iDrive menu. Another benefit of the system is that, in the event of a collision, the 20 seconds before the accident and the 20 seconds following it are automatically recorded and saved, so they can be referred back to in any subsequent reconstruction of the incident.

BMW will introduce a wave of enticing additions to standard specification and broaden the array of options available ex-factory in spring 2019, delivering a further boost to driving pleasure and individuality in many of its model ranges. New design features, exterior paint finishes and light-alloy wheels enhance the sporting appearance of the BMW 2 Series Coupe, BMW 2 Series Convertible, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, BMW 4 Series, BMW M4 Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 10.0 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.3 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 227 – 225 g/km) and BMW M4 Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.1 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.0 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 232 – 230 g/km). Joining the equipment offering for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring, meanwhile, is a BMW Individual Composition with M Sport features.

The spread of BMW X1 and BMW X2 model variants presented to customers has also been further expanded, and their exhaust gas treatment systems will now include a gasoline particulate filter. Spring 2019 will see the arrival of the BMW X2 M35i (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.9 l/100 km [39.8 – 40.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 161 – 158 g/km) as the flagship model in the compact Sports Activity Coupe’s line-up. And just a few months on from the market launch of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe and new BMW X5, the selection of exterior paint finishes and leather appointments for the luxury sports car and Sports Activity Vehicle will grow to include additional variants.

BMW 2 Series Coupe, BMW 2 Series Convertible, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo: fresh touches enhance sportiness and elegance.
Among the refreshing flourishes enriching the visual sportiness and elegance of the BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible are darkened rear lights, which will become part of standard specification in March 2019. The high-performance BMW M2 Competition (fuel consumption combined: 10.0 – 9.8 l/100 km [28.3 – 28.8 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 227 – 224 g/km) will likewise come with darkened rear lights as standard. BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible customers ordering their car in Sport Line specification will find additional bi-colour 17- and 18-inch light-alloy wheels on the options list.

18-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design, painted in matt Cerium Grey and with mixed-size tyres, will be offered as a new option for the BMW M240i Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.4 – 7.3 l/100 km [38.2 – 38.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 168 – 167 g/km), BMW M240i xDrive Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 8.0 – 7.8 l/100 km [35.3 – 36.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 181 – 178 g/km), BMW M240i Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.6 – 7.6 l/100 km [37.2 – 37.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 173 – 172 g/km) and BMW M240i xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 8.4 – 8.3 l/100 km [33.6 – 34.0 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 191 – 188 g/km). The palette of exterior paint finishes for the particularly sporty six-cylinder BMW 2 Series models now also includes the new Long Beach Blue metallic variant, while the optional interior trim strips in smooth matt Carbon Fibre heighten the cabin’s sporting allure.

All Sport Line model and M Sport model variants of the BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible come with a black kidney grille surround. And new to the options list for the interior is Dakota leather trim with exclusive stitching.

Dark rear lights will also be included in the standard specification for the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo from March 2019. Cars with the optional Adaptive LED Headlights also have black inserts for the headlight units, which the M Sport model will complement with a BMW kidney grille, exhaust tailpipe embellishers and exterior mirror caps (optional) in High-gloss Black. Added to which, Jet Black 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in star-spoke design and 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design with Jet Black polished finish and mixed-size tyres are available for M Sport models as a new and exclusive option. In addition, the exterior colour shade Mineral White metallic can be specified for M Sport cars.

BMW 4 Series, BMW M4 Coupe, BMW M4 Convertible: new paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and leather appointments.
The BMW 4 Series will present an even more alluring proposition from March 2019 thanks to new individualisation options. For example, the stylish elegance of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will be showcased to particularly stunning effect by the BMW Individual paint finish Aventurine Red metallic and BMW Individual special paint finish Frozen Dark Grey metallic. The selection of colours available for the BMW 4 Series Coupe and BMW 4 Series Convertible now also includes Mediterranean Blue metallic. Newcomers to the range of optional equipment available for all BMW 4 Series models are 18-inch light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design and the bi-colour paint variant Orbit Grey, plus 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design and bi-colour Jet Black with mixed-size tyres.

The interior also contains some new and distinctive touches in the form of the Mocha colour shade for the optional Dakota leather trim on Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport cars and interior trim strips in Carbon Fibre, which are available in conjunction with M Sport specification. The M Sport and Sport Line variants of the BMW 4 Series will now be fitted with black rear light screens and a BMW kidney grille surround in High-gloss Black as standard.

Darkened rear lights are also set to adorn the rear of the BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible. The BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Dark Blue II will be offered as an option for the two high-performance models from March 2019. Plus, the BMW M4 Coupe with M Competition package can be ordered with two new bi-colour leather trim options. Exclusive dynamics: new M Sport Individual equipment line for the BMW 4 Series.
A new and highly desirable addition to the selection of equipment lines available from March 2019 for the BMW 4 Series Coupe, BMW 4 Series Convertible and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is the M Sport Individual model. Here, signature M features designed to fuel dynamic driving pleasure team up with suitably exclusive options from BMW Individual. BMW 5 Series range: BMW Individual Composition with M Sport features.
A neatly blended selection of super-exclusive design and equipment features distinguishes the BMW Individual Composition with M Sport features available for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring from March 2019. The new option includes BMW Individual paintwork in Azurite Black metallic, Carbon Black metallic, Champagne Quartz metallic, Almandine Brown metallic or Rhodonite Silver metallic, 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino in Tartufo, Caramel or Smoke White, comfort seats with active seat ventilation, a leather-covered BMW Individual instrument panel, a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite and BMW Individual interior trim strips.

BMW 8 Series Coupe now available with a richer variety of paint finishes and leather appointments.
The show-stopping design and luxurious interior ambience of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe can be tailored even more precisely to the owner’s personal style from spring 2019 thanks to a wider array of exterior paint finishes and leather appointments. The spectrum of body colours available has expanded to include the BMW Individual paint finishes Aventurine Red metallic and Tanzanite Blue metallic and the BMW Individual special paint finishes Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Dark Brown metallic, Frozen Arctic Grey metallic, Frozen Cashmere Silver metallic, Frozen Dark Silver metallic, Frozen Brilliant White metallic and Pure Metal Silver metallic.

Meanwhile, BMW Individual fine-grain Merino full leather trim will appeal to those looking to lend a particularly exclusive feel to the design of their car’s interior. It can be ordered in Black, Ivory White and Cognac, as well as the Fiona Red/Black, Tartufo/Black, Ivory White/Tartufo and Midnight Blue/Black combinations. Also new to the options list are BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips in Black Ash Silver Effect high-gloss.

BMW X5: new exterior colours and leather appointments.
The range of body colour shades and leather appointments for the new BMW X5 will also be further expanded in spring 2019. The Sports Activity Vehicle will now be available with the exterior paint finishes Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect metallic and Terra Brown metallic and BMW Individual paint finishes Ruby Black metallic, Pyrite Brown metallic, Ametrine metallic and Tanzanite Blue metallic.

A selection of additional options will help customers bring a personalised flavour to the interior of the new BMW X5. New arrivals include BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino in Ivory White/Midnight Blue combination and BMW Individual fine-grain Merino full leather trim in Black, Ivory White, Tartufo, Coffee and Ivory White/Midnight Blue. And from April 2019, BMW Individual interior trim strips in Fineline Black fine wood with aluminium inlays will also be available as an option.

Sales get underway of the BMW X2 M35i; BMW X1 xDrive20i, BMW X2 xDrive20i and BMW X1 xDrive25i now with gasoline particulate filter.
The BMW X2 will welcome a new top-of-the-line model variant in spring 2019. The market launch des BMW X2 M35i sees the extrovert design of the compact Sports Activity Coupes link up with an extremely powerful four-cylinder petrol engine. The new 2.0-litre unit with M TwinPower Turbo technology generates maximum output of 225 kW/306 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), and accelerates the BMW X2 M35i from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.0 seconds. Power transfer is via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. An M Sport braking system and mechanical M Sport differential at the front axle also play their part in endowing the flagship X2 with its standout sporting prowess.

More petrol variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 will boast further reduced emissions from March 2019. The BMW X1 xDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 l/100 km [42.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 152 g/km), BMW X2 xDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 – 6.5 l/100 km [42.2 – 43.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 152 – 147 g/km) and BMW X1 xDrive25i (fuel consumption combined: 6.8 l/100 km [41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 155 g/km) will now be fitted with a gasoline particulate filter to cut levels of particulate emissions.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Naar aanleiding van de nakende lancering van de nieuwe BMW X5 op 24 november, tonen wij u graag de off-roadcapaciteiten van de verschillende intelligente rijmodi (waaronder xSand) in een woestijnversie van het circuit van Monza. Daar bovenop delen we vijf features die de luxe en innovatieve capaciteiten van de nieuwe BMW X5 extra in de verf zetten.

Lastige uitrijmanoeuvres: nooit meer!

Binnen de D+ACES*-strategie van BMW is de ontwikkeling van autonoom rijdende wagens één van de vier innovatiepunten. Als eerste autofabrikant biedt het Duitse premiummerk op de nieuwe BMW X5 (en bij uitbreiding op de BMW 8 Reeks Coupé) een slimme achteruitrijassistent. De wagen onthoudt de laatste 50 meter die hij gereden heeft met een maximum snelheid van 36 km per uur. Met een eenvoudige aanwijzing op het touchscreen van de achteruitrijdisplay zal de wagen héél precies dezelfde route achteruit volgen met een maximum snelheid van 9 km per uur. De bestuurder houdt ten allen tijde de controle dankzij bediening van de gas- en rempedaal. Op die manier zijn onder meer lastige uitrijmanoeuvres in ondergrondse parkeergarages verleden tijd.

Biep biep. Digitale sleutel herkent u.

Het optionele Comfort Access van de BMW X5 omvat voortaan een BMW Digital Key,  en een digitale sleutel via Near Field Communications (NFC). Deze digitale sleutel is in eerste instantie beschikbaar voor alle Samsung Galaxy smartphones met Android 8.0 of hoger én kan ook gedeeld worden met tot vijf verschillende smartphones. Wanneer de wagen een digitale sleutel detecteert binnen eens straal van drie meter, zal de verwelkomingsverlichting aangaan. Binnen een straal van één meter zal de wagen automatisch ontgrendelen. Bij het zich verwijderenwegstappen van de wagen, zal de wagen zichzelf vergrendelen. Voor het comfort van de klanten, kunnen zij ervoor kiezen om deze automatische open- en sluitfunctie te laten begeleiden door een optioneel geluidsignaal. De klant krijgt bovendien een NFC kaart ter grootte van een bankkaart, die gedeeld kan worden met een parkeerbediende. Om de wagen te starten, volstaat het om de NFC-smartphone of –kaart in het wireless charging of smartphonevak te leggen.

Deur niet goed gesloten? De intelligente sfeerverlichting geeft het aan.

De LED-sfeerverlichting aan boord van de BMW X5 loopt van de bestuurdersdeur over het centrale dashboard door tot in de passagiersdeur. Niet alleen zorgt dit voor een aangenaam welbehagen aan boord van de wagen in het donker, deze heeft ook een functioneel karakter. Zo zal de LED-strip rood pulseren wanneer de deur niet goed gesloten is. Wanneer een telefoon via de standaard aanwezige bluetooth verbonden is, zal de sfeerverlichting ook inkomende oproepen mee aangeven. Verder heeft deze LED-strip ook een verwelkoming- en afscheidsfunctie.

Uw koffie warm, uw frisdrank koel.

De BMW X5 biedt bovenop een luxueuze rijervaring ook een enorm welbehagen aan boord. Zo zal de zetelverwarming ook de beide armsteunen (in de deur en op de centrale console) mee verwarmen. De centrale drinkbekerhouders vooraan voegen daar een smaakervaring bovenop. BMW heeft in deze bekerhouder een verwarmingselement ingebouwd dat ervoor zorgt dat een warme koffie warm blijft onderweg. Bij zomerse buitentemperaturen kan de bestuurder er dan bijvoorbeeld weer voor kiezen om zijn frisdrank koel te houden.

Geen verschuivende bagage meer.

Vanaf december biedt BMW haar klanten de mogelijkheid om het antislip kofferruimtepakket te nemen. Vier antislip stroken komen na het starten van de BMW EfficientDynamics-motor omhoog en zorgen dat de kofferlading mooi op zijn plaats blijft. Na het uitzetten van de motor zinken deze stroken terug in de vloer weg. Echter, wanneer de wagen op een helling stopt, zal deze antislipfunctie actief blijven, om te vermijden dat koffers of dozen uit de kofferruimte zouden kunnen vallen.

De kofferruimte herbergt nog een andere optionele innovatie: het kofferafdekzeil is met een eenvoudige druk op een knop elektrisch wegklapbaar in de koffervloer. Op die manier biedt BMW zijn gebruikers een groter gebruiksgemak.

Munich/San Donato Milanese. For the launch of the new BMW X5 (fuel consumption combined: 11.6 – 6.0 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 264 – 158 g/km; provisional figures), BMW Italy has created an undertaking like no other: bringing the iconic bends of Monza into the secular sand of the Sahara. The historic Monza circuit was reproduced in Merzouga, in one of the most desert areas of Morocco: a route of 5,793 meters that stands out among the sands and rocks of the Sahara. Every bend, every straight section, every chicane has been faithfully reconstructed on a 1:1 scale, both in the radius of curvature and in the distances.

For two weeks, more than 50 people including engineers, surveyors, technicians, workers and pilots have worked and contributed to realize this incredible project. It took 4 days of study and preparation with surveyors, engineers and architects, with 8 post for topographic design and simulation. For 9 days, 4 bulldozers and 4 trucks dug 24 cubic meters at a time to prepare the soil and remove excess sand; while 2 graders and 2 compactors have defined and compacted the track. Over 3500 cubic meters of earth have been moved to give life to the off-road track.

A monumental work that culminates in an unprecedented challenge: the new BMW X5, after having crossed Europe on a journey in stages, has reached the circuit of "Monza, Sahara" in the impervious Moroccan desert where, in the dunes of sand and rocks, has challenged one of the most hostile terrain on the planet and faced Lesmo, Ascari and Parabolica, giving evidence of its off-road ability, thanks to the new xOffroad package, which makes its debut on this model. The new BMW X5 was welcomed in Morocco by the new BMW R 1250 GS, the enduro motorcycle par excellence of BMW Motorrad, recently renovated with a new boxer engine, which was the forerunner in this undertaking.

The new BMW X5: the xOffroad package is an absolute news.
The BMW X family originated from the BMW X5 and today, in its fourth generation, this model stands out as it has never done before, both in terms of aesthetics and its modernity. The new BMW X5 impresses with its wealth of innovations and represents the most convincing incarnation to date of the familiar Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) model: the ability to venture off-road perfectly combined with the pleasure of dynamic driving. Like its predecessors, the BMW X5 will be built at the Spartanburg BMW plant in the United States. The launch on the Italian market will be on 24 and 25 November 2018.

The new design of the Bavarian SAV enhances safety and solidity, conferred by the bigger dimensions, if compared to its predecessor, that contribute to the impressive appearance and an enviable interior space. The new BMW X5 maintains the typical proportions of a SAV, clean surfaces and precise lines that accentuate the robustness, safety and grandeur of the car. The new chassis systems improve the off-road performance, sportiness and comfort of the new BMW X5. The SAV is equipped as standard with Dynamic Damper Control while the Adaptive M Professional suspension with active anti-roll stabilization and Integral Active Steering (making its debut in a BMW X model) guarantee extremely agile and dynamic driving characteristics. The air suspension of the two axles satisfies those looking for maximum driving comfort and allows the vehicle height to be adjusted by 80 millimetres by pressing a button or using the BMW Display Key.

An absolute novelty for the model is the possibility for customers to choose the xOffroad package. A specific button gives the driver the choice between four off-road driving modes (xSand, xRocks, xGravel, xSnow), which automatically determine the ideal vehicle height settings, xDrive system, acceleration response and transmission control, and corrective inputs of the DSC system when you need to drive on sand, rocks, gravel or snow.

1. Actieve luchtinlaat in de merk-typische nieren.

De Actieve luchtinlaat heeft de kenmerkende verticale gril en beweegbare panelen in de neus die automatisch openen wanneer bijkomende koellucht nodig is. Dit systeem wordt geactiveerd op basis van verschillende temperatuursensoren en de snelheid van het voertuig. Door bijvoorbeeld tijdens het warmlopen van de motor de neus volledig dicht te houden, wordt de aerodynamica maximaal geoptimaliseerd. (Deze functie is beschikbaar sinds de lancering van de BMW 7 Reeks.)

2. Slimme start-stop.

Wanneer je een BMW X5 tot stilstand brengt, zal de motor automatisch uitschakelen. De boordcomputer van de BMW houdt voortaan rekening met de positie van de voorligger en zal de motor zélf terug activeren wanneer die wagen vertrekt. Deze functie is beschikbaar sinds de lancering van de nieuwe BMW 5 Reeks. De optionele Active Active Cruise Control (ACC) met Stop & Go functie kan BMW X5 tot stilstand brengen en opnieuw automatisch laten vertrekken. Wat nieuw is, is dat de wagen in een file met stop-start verkeer de periode verlengt tussen het stoppen en het automatisch vertrekken. Zo worden er voortaan minstens 30 seconden genomen tussen het stoppen en het automatisch terug vertrekken. Op die manier heeft de chauffeur ook een groter comfort.

3. Luchtvering verlaagt de auto vanzelf bij hoge snelheid.

Om de aerodynamica bij grote snelheden te verbeteren, zal een BMW X5 met optionele luchtvering automatisch 20 millimeter zakken wanneer de SPORT modus ingeschakeld is. Deze functie werkt automatisch bij snelheden boven de 138 km/u, bijvoorbeeld op de Duitse Autobahn of op afgesloten circuits.

4. Geen lokale uitstoot: BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance.

De nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance, die in de loop van 2019 beschikbaar zal worden, zal tot 80km (NEDC 2.0) emissievrij kunnen rijden. De wagen beschikt voortaan over een 3 liter 6-in-lijn motor van de BMW EfficientDynamics motoren en de nieuwste generatie van BMW eDrive technologie. Een lithium-ion batterij met uitgebreide opslagcapaciteit en verder ontwikkelde elektronica voor energiebeheer bieden deze plug-in hybride een impressionant niveau van efficiëntie.

5. Optimalisatie van ECO PRO rijmodus.

Standaard heeft elke BMW drie verschillende rijmodi: SPORT, COMFORT EN ECO-PRO. In de nieuwe BMW X5 is de ECO-PRO modus zo aangepast dat hij ook kan ingrijpen in de het verbruik van luxefeatures als zetelverwarming en stoelklimatisatie. Zo wordt het verbruikte vermogen voor deze features standaard met 15% teruggebracht wanneer de ECO-PRO modus geactiveerd wordt.

Development of the full range of M Performance Parts has always drawn on the extensive motor racing expertise of BMW M GmbH. All components are perfectly matched – both with each other and with the specific properties of each model. In this way, they not only give the vehicle concerned a more striking, dynamic appearance but also serve a functional purpose. The features have a positive impact on the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties, for instance, or contribute additionally to the intelligent lightweight concept. 

The numerous exterior components in carbon fibre make for a more pronounced appearance. 
The M Performance exterior components in carbon fibre are especially effective in creating a particularly striking look in the BMW X5 that is clearly inspired by motor racing. They are all characterised by the honeycomb structure that is so typical of carbon fibre reinforced plastic. Finished by hand and sealed with a clear finish, the components are given a final high-gloss polish for an impressive depth effect. For example, the air intake trim element for the standard bumper and the front winglets not only visually enhance the front section, they also highlight the breadth of the SAV model. At the rear, the same applies to the rear winglets and the rear diffuser. The range of M exterior components in carbon fibre is rounded off with exterior mirror caps.

Finally, M Performance side sill foils in black matt are available for further enhancement of the vehicle’s sporty external look. They run from the front to the rear wheel arch along the entire lower sill and are branded with the M Performance inscription. 

All-terrain wheels available from BMW as M Performance Parts for the first time.

For customers who prefer to highlight and make use of the off-road capabilities of their BMW X5, the 20'' M light alloy wheel Star Spoke 748 M with all-terrain tyres is now available for the fourth generation of the BMW X5. The colour BMW M logo is especially eye-catching due to the fact that the rim is finished in sporty matt black. The specific rim design combined with the striking tread design of the all-terrain tyre reflects both robustness and stability. This new wheel/tyre combination also offers good rid comfort and is approved for use in winter.

Optional 22-inch tyres are also available for customers, that include a set of wheels from the M Performance Parts range. The 22" M Performance light alloy wheel Start Spoke 749 M with rolled rim well (flow forming) is about one kilogram lighter than a comparable wheel of the same size due to the special manufacturing technique used. All in all, the unsprung masses are reduced by approx. four kilograms as a result, which impacts positively on driving dynamics and turn-in response. 

Weight-optimised design also characterises the M Performance sports brake: the 4-piston fixed calipers on the front axle are made of aluminium, for example. Meanwhile the inner-vented and perforated M Performance brake discs – which are larger than in the serial brakes (19 inches) – ensure improved thermal resilience and therefore an increased braking effect even in extreme conditions. The brake calipers finished in red visually highlight the M Performance sports brake – and especially striking feature in conjunction with wheels that have an open rim design such as the M Performance light alloy wheel Star Spoke 749 M.

Carbon fibre look and motor racing functionality on the inside, too.
A wide selection of M Performance components derived from and inspired by motor racing is also available for the interior of the new BMW X5, once again providing both visual and functional enhancement. The M Performance steering wheel ensures the driver has secure control over the dynamic SAV at all times, for example. This is due to the extremely high-grip Alcantara handling area with large thumbrests and special underlining for excellent stability and a direct steering feel. In addition to standard details such as the red centre marking at the 12 o’clock position and the silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitch, the M Performance steering wheel is also available with M Performance steering wheel trim in carbon fibre with M Performance inscription and Alcantara insert. To match this, the shift paddles can also be selected in an M Performance finish featuring carbon fabric instead of the standard chrome surface.

It is also possible to give the driver’s workplace a motor racing look and feel in areas that are outside the direct field of vision in the new BMW X5. Contributing factors here are the M Performance floor mats with M Performance inscription, a pennant in the typical M colours and a surround in leather look including decorative seam in contrasting colours, as well as pedal pads and footrest in stainless steel. The asymmetrical profiles of the latter underscore the striking motor racing look.

Drive Analyser for comprehensive driving style analysis.
The M Performance Drive Analyser is available to those wanting to achieve motor racing optimisation not just in the BMW X5 itself but also in terms of their own driving style. It consists of an OBD stick, which is plugged into the on-board diagnosis socket, and a smartphone app. The Drive Analyser is derived directly from motor racing: it provides the driver with all the main driving dynamics data, offering extensive and professional logging and analysis options. It also enables trip recording on a smartphone video camera, driving data logging and route tracking based on GPS position data.

A love of motor racing in general and M Performance products in particular can also be expressed by means of features that are not directly connected with the driving experience in the new BMW X5 itself. The M Performance slide set for the BMW LED door projectors enables the BMW M logo or other motifs relating to M Performance to be projected onto the asphalt when getting in and out of the car, for example. Munich. Efficiency meets supremacy: the drive portfolio of the new BMW X5 is to be extended in the course of 2019 with the addition of a plug-in hybrid system. The new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance combines a model-specific in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the very latest BMW eDrive technology. Consistent progress in the area of plug-hybrid drive has produced a system output now increased to 290 kW/394 hp, a tangible enhancement in terms of electrically powered range and a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ levels as compared to the predecessor model.

More impressively than ever, the second generation of the plug-in hybrid model combines the purely electrically powered driving pleasure of a BMW iPerformance automobile with the versatility that is typical of a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). In doing so, the new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance offers optimised qualities in terms of both driving dynamics and efficiency. It does the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds – more than one second less than the predecessor model. The top speed when driving on electric power alone is increased from 120 to 140 km/h. Its electrically powered range is now approximately 80 kilometres*, almost three times that of its predecessor. The combined fuel consumption of the new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance drops to 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres*, while the relevant CO₂ emissions figure is now 49 grams per kilometre*.

These improved levels are the result of a completely newly developed drive technology. It comprises a 3.0-litre and 210 kW/286 hp in-line 6-cylinder engine from the current BMW EfficientDynamics drive family and the latest generation of BMW eDrive technology. An electrical system output of 82 kW/112 hp, a lithium-ion battery with extended storage capacity and further developed power electronics for intelligent energy management give the plug-in hybrid system of the BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance unique performance characteristics as well as an impressive level of efficiency. Together, the two drive units generate a system output of 290 kW/394 hp along with a maximum system torque of 600 Nm. The combustion engine and electric motor deliver their power to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission of the latest generation and the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. In this way, the drive torque is transferred to all four wheels when driving on electric power alone as well as when using the combustion engine or indeed both drive units: this ensures sporty driving pleasure on the road and supreme off-road performance over loose terrain at all times. The top speed of the BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance is 235 km/h.

Thanks to the high-voltage battery positioned in the underbody area of the vehicle, the centre of gravity is lower than in conventionally powered SAV model variants. The luggage compartment volume of the BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance is only some 150 litres less. When all seats are used, the storage volume is 500 litres; if the rear backrests are folded down, a volume of 1 716 litres is available. The volume of the fuel tank is 69 litres – suitable for long distances.

The new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance is fitted as standard with a two-axle air suspension and electronically controlled dampers. The optional suspension systems available for the plug-in hybrid model include integral active steering. In addition to a comprehensive selection of features in the area of intelligent connectivity, new digital services are also offered that are geared specifically towards electromobility. In addition, all driver assistance systems developed for the Sports Activity Vehicle as well as high-quality options to enhance comfort and luxurious interior ambience are also available for the new BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

• • De vierde generatie van de grondlegger van de BMW X familie. De nieuwe BMW X5 opent een nieuw hoofdstuk in het succesverhaal van de eerste auto in het segment van de Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), waarvan inmiddels meer dan 2,2 miljoen exemplaren zijn verkocht. De nieuwe BMW X5 biedt een nieuw design, meer comfort, sportiever rijgedrag en innovatieve voorzieningen. De nieuwe BMW X5 gaat in productie in de BMW fabriek in Spartanburg (VS) en wordt vanaf november 2018 geïntroduceerd.
  • De nieuwe BMW X5 is beduidend groter dan zijn voorganger. De lengte is met 36 mm gegroeid tot 4.922 mm, de breedte met 66 mm tot 2.004 mm en de hoogte met 19 mm tot 1.745 mm. De wielbasis groeide met 42 mm tot 2.975 mm.
  • De carrosserie heeft een designtaal die nieuw is voor de BMW X modellen. Krachtig gevormde oppervlakken, scherpe lijnen. De grote nierengrille van BMW heeft een omlijsting uit één stuk, de achterlichtunits hebben een driedimensionale vorm.
  • Het interieur heeft een stijlvolle en moderne uitstraling dankzij verfijnd materiaalgebruik, een harmonieus design en een innovatief bedieningsconcept.
  • Aantrekkelijke personalisatiemogelijkheden met BMW xLine en M Sport versies en specifieke opties van BMW Individual.
  • BMW Laserlight met Adaptive LED Headlights is optioneel. Lichtsignatuur heeft een opvallend design; lenzen geven de lichtbundel een herkenbare X-vorm; BMW Laserlight met kenmerkende, blauwe details in de lichtunit.
  • Eerste model van BMW die (optioneel) leverbaar is met 22-inchwielen. Lichtmetalen M wielen met dubbelspaaksdesign en lichtmetalen BMW Individual wielen in die maat vanaf introductie leverbaar.
  • Vanaf de introductie biedt BMW keuze uit drie motoren voor de nieuwe BMW X5. De zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor met 250 kW (340 pk) in de BMW X5 xDrive40i verbruikt 8,5-8,8 l/100 km (gecombineerd). De gecombineerde CO₂-emissie bedraagt 193-200 g/km*. Er zijn twee zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotoren. Die met 294 kW (400 pk) in de BMW X5 M50d verbruikt 6,8-7,2 l/100 km bij een gecombineerde CO₂-emissie van 179-190 g/km*. Die met 195 kW (265 pk) in de BMW X5 xDrive30d verbruikt 6,0-6,8 l/100 km (gecombineerd) bij een gecombineerde CO₂-emissie van 158-179 g/km)*. Alle motoren zijn voorzien van de modernste uitlaatgasbehandelingstechnologie inclusief een benzinepartikelfilter of een SCR-katalysator en voldoen aan de laatste, striktste emissienorm EU6d-TEMP. De 8-traps Steptronic automaat is in alle versies standaard.
  • BMW xDrive intelligente vierwielaandrijving is eveneens standaard, met nieuwe, efficiëntere besturingstechniek en met nadruk op aandrijving op de achterwielen. Een sperdifferentieel dat de aandrijfkrachten ongelijk verdeelt over de achteras zorgt voor extra wendbaarheid, tractie en stabiliteit bij accelereren uit bochten en in andere dynamische situaties.
  • De nieuwe BMW X5 is de eerste BMW X die leverbaar is met het optionele Off-Road pakket. Met luchtvering op zowel de vóór- als de achteras, beschermingspanelen onder de vóór- en achterzijde en speciale displays in het instrumentenpaneel en de Control Display. Keuze uit vier rijmodi, die te selecteren zijn met een simpele druk op een knop. Rijhoogte en instellingen van BMW xDrive, DSC, transmissie en reacties op het gaspedaal zijn daarmee aan te passen voor optimale instellingen voor rijden in zand, over rotsige ondergrond, gravel en sneeuw.
  • Het Adaptieve Onderstel met elektronisch geregelde dempers is standaard. Nieuwe onderstelsystemen in een BMW X model: luchtvering op beide assen, met hoogteverstelling tot wel 80 mm mogelijk, Integral Active Steering, Adaptive M Suspension Professional met actieve rolstabilisatie.
  • Uitgebreid gebruiksgemak dankzij multimodaal gebruik: touchscreen, Controller, stemcommando’s en BMW Gesture Control.
  • Nieuwe generatie van BMW Head-Up Display met een groter scherm (nu 7x3,5-inch), geoptimaliseerde graphics en extra display content.
  • Optionele derde zitrij (leverbaar vanaf december 2018) biedt twee extra zitplaatsen. Gemakkelijk in- en uitstappen dankzij elektrisch voorover te klappen tweede zitrij.
  • Gedeelde achterklep, beide delen zijn met optionele Comfort Access ‘handsfree’ te openen en te sluiten. Afdekking van bagageruimte verzinkt elektrisch in de vloer (leverbaar vanaf december 2018). Bagageruimte te vergroten van 645 tot maximaal 1.860 liter.
  • BMW Individual Merino-lederen bekleding optioneel; beide leverbaar in vier kleuren.
  • Nieuwe opties geven het interieur nog meer comfort: multifunctionele stoelen met massagefunctie, in vier zones gescheiden airconditioning, verwarmbare armsteunen, bekerhouders met koel-/warmhoudfunctie in de middenconsole, glazen Panorama Sky Lounge dak met een 30% groter glasoppervlak, Ambient Air pakket voor prettige geur in het interieur, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System (leverbaar vanaf december 2018), rear seat entertainment Professional met 10,2-inch touchscreens (leverbaar vanaf december 2018).
  • Nieuw: optionele bedieningsorganen van glas, zoals de keuzehendel voor de transmissie, de Controller, de start-/stopknop in de middenconsole en de regelaar voor het audiosysteem.
  • BMW Display Key toont voertuiginformatie en stelt gebruiker in staat om voertuigfuncties te gebruiken. Draadloos smartphone opladen.
  • Vernieuwde interieurverlichting (optie) met Welcome Light Carpet bij geopend portier en Dynamic Interior Light met pulserende verlichting in het dashboard bij inkomend telefoongesprek en in het portier wanneer dat geopend is en de motor loopt.
  • Groot aantal innovatieve rijhulpsystemen voor nieuwe stap richting autonoom rijden: Driving Assistant Professional met verder ontwikkelde Active Cruise Control met Stop & Go functie, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Lane Change Warning en Lane Departure Warning, actieve bescherming tegen zijdelingse aanrijdingen, ontwijkassistentie, Crossing Traffic Warning, Priority Warning en Wrong-Way Warning.
  • Voor het eerst is Emergency Stop Assistant leverbaar. Het systeem remt de auto automatisch af wanneer dat noodzakelijk is en stuurt de auto naar de kant van de weg.
  • Parking Assistant met automatische geleiding in lengte- en dwarsrichting. Nieuwe Reversing Assistant neemt de besturing over om de auto achterwaarts te sturen over een traject dat die eerder vooruitrijdend heeft afgelegd – over een afstand van maximaal 80 meter. Parking Assistant Plus omvat ook Surround View, Top View, Panorama View en Remote 3D View.
  • Compleet gamma diensten van BMW Connected Drive. Volledige connectiviteit tussen auto en de mobiele apparaten van de bestuurder via de BMW Connected persoonlijke mobiliteitsassistent. BMW Digital Key biedt gebruiker toegang tot de auto en laat hem de motor starten met zijn smartphone. Waarschuwing voor gevaar via connectiviteit met andere auto’s van BMW. Integratie van Microsoft Office 365.

  BMW X5 xDrive30d:

Acceleratie 0-100 km/u 6,5 s, topsnelheid 230 km/u. Verbruik gecombineerd* 6,0-6,8 l/100 km, CO₂-emissie gecombineerd* 158-179 g/km, emissienorm EU6d-TEMP.

   

  BMW X5 M50d: 

  Zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor, 8-traps Steptronic automaat. Cilinderinhoud 2.993 cm³, vermogen 294 kW (400 pk) bij 4.400 toeren per minuut, maximumkoppel 760 Nm bij 2.000-3.000 toeren per minuut. Acceleratie 0-100 km/u 5,2 s, topsnelheid 250 km/u. Verbruik gecombineerd* 6,8-7,2 l/100 km, CO²-emissie gecombineerd* 179-190 g/km, emissienorm EU6d-TEMP.

  Brandstof- en stroomverbruik, CO2-emissie en actieradius zijn bepaald volgens de Europese Richtlijn (EC) 715/2007 in de van toepassing zijnde versie. De cijfers zijn die van een standaarduitvoering zoals die in Duitsland leverbaar is. Bij de actieradius is rekening gehouden met de uiteenlopende wiel- en bandenmaten en meeruitvoering en daardoor kan die bij het samenstellen van een specifieke auto afwijken.

   

  De met een * gemarkeerde cijfers zijn al gebaseerd op de nieuwe WLTP-testprocedure en zijn teruggerekend tot equivalente NEDC-cijfers om vergelijking tussen versies mogelijk te maken. Van deze versies kan de CO2-emissie op basis waarvan belasting en toeslagen worden berekend (in elk geval onderling) afwijken van de cijfers die hier zijn weergegeven (afhankelijk van mogelijk per land verschillende wetgeving).

   

  De CO2-emissiecijfers zijn bepaald volgens de Europese Richtlijn 1999/94/EC en de nieuwste versie van de Duitse Pkw-EnVKV en zijn voor classificatie gebaseerd op de verbruiks- en CO2-emissiecijfers volgens de NEDC-testcyclus.
