Bornem. Precies een maand geleden schreef de BMW Group een nieuw hoofdstuk in haar geschiedenis met de lancering van de nieuwe generatie BMW iX3. Het allereerste model dat gebouwd is op de nieuwe, unieke ‘Neue Klasse’ architectuur: de basis voor een nieuw tijdperk dat volledig elektrisch, digitaal en circulair is.

Van 8 tot 12 oktober wordt het model in Belgische première voorgesteld tijdens het lifestyle-evenement Zoute Grand Prix in Knokke. Daar kunnen toekomstige klanten en het Belgische publiek kennismaken met het gloednieuwe elektrische model.

De nieuwe generatie BMW iX3 is een volledig elektrische Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) die een geheel nieuwe wereld van puur rijplezier inluidt. Een nieuwe ontwerptaal geeft de auto een karakteristieke uitstraling die een mooie weerspiegeling is van de technologische vooruitgang en innovaties van de groep. Met de zesde generatie BMW eDrive-technologie is een rijbereik tot 805 kilometer (WLPT) en een maximaal laadvermogen van 400 kW mogelijk.  De nieuwe BMW iX3 zet zo hogere standaarden op het gebied van efficiëntie, langeafstandsvermogen en rijplezier.

Dankzij een nieuwe elektronische softwarearchitectuur met vier krachtige ‘superbrain’-computers is het eerste model van de Neue Klasse beter dan ooit voorbereid op de toekomst. De ‘Heart of Joy’-technologie voor het beheer van de versnellingsbak en de rijdynamiek biedt een ongeëvenaarde wendbaarheid en precisie, terwijl de allernieuwste automatische rijsystemen de symbiotische interactie tussen mens en voertuig optimaliseren.

Munich. The BMW Museum in Munich is using a special exhibition taking place as part of the international BMW Art Car World Tour to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of both the legendary BMW Art Car Collection and the iconic BMW 3 Series. The exhibition will open its doors to visitors from 17 June, hot on the heels of the Le Mans 24 Hours race weekend. Fittingly, it was at Le Mans in 1975 that the first BMW Art Car – created by Alexander Calder – staged its glittering premiere. The exhibition, which runs until 1 February 2026, will see the BMW Museum present a trio of Art Cars based on the BMW 3 Series: Sandro Chia’s BMW M3 GTR and the BMW M3 (Group A) cars designed by Michael Jagamara Nelson and Ken Done respectively.

The exhibition at the BMW Museum – the home of the BMW Art Cars when they are not on display at destinations around the globe – is one of the attractions of the ongoing BMW Art Car World Tour, the largest exhibition project yet in the 50-year history of the collection. The Tour has so far visited 12 markets on five continents, and will continue to showcase the legendary BMW Art Cars across numerous art and car platforms, and at institutes worldwide, over the coming year. The BMW Museum will use the special exhibition to provide insights into the artistic brilliance and history of the BMW Art Car Collection, as well as inviting visitors to explore the technical excellence of the 3 Series and the innovative power of the BMW brand.

50 years of driving pleasure: the BMW 3 Series 
Since it first hit the roads in 1975, the BMW 3 Series has served as a byword for driving pleasure and a cornerstone for the success of BMW. Across five decades, it has reimagined the concept of the sports sedan, set new standards for performance and put smiles on the faces of millions of drivers around the world. From the groundbreaking first generation to today’s innovative models, the 3 Series has been an enduring, style-defining feature of the automotive landscape.

50 years of “rolling sculptures”: the BMW Art Car Collection
Since 1975, renowned artists from countries the world over have gone to work creating BMW Art Cars. The idea was the brainchild of French racing driver and art lover Hervé Poulain, who teamed up with BMW’s then Head of Motorsport Jochen Neerpasch to invite friend and artist Alexander Calder to paint a design onto a car. The result was a BMW 3.0 CSL that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1975, becoming a darling of the crowd – and marking the birth of the BMW Art Car Collection. Famous names including Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Esther Mahlangu, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer and Ólafur Elíasson have since added further BMW Art Cars bearing their own individual style to the collection. More recently, the American John Baldessari and Chinese multimedia artist Cao Fei used the BMW M6 GTLM and BMW M6 GT3 respectively as a canvas for their takes on the BMW Art Car concept in 2016 and 2017. They therefore joined Jeff Koons and Julie Mehretu in applying their creativity to dynamic racing cars in the last 15 years.

BMW M3 Group A by Ken Done (1989):
Australian artist Ken Done created a vibrant and richly coloured design that captures the energy and dynamism of motor racing. His work represents a homage to the speed and power of the BMW M3.

BMW M3 Group A by Michael Jagamara Nelson (1989):
Michael Jagamara Nelson, also from Australia, brought the traditions of Aboriginal art to the bodywork of the BMW M3. His complex motifs using dot painting techniques tell Dreaming stories that are deeply rooted in the culture of his people.

BMW M3 GTR by Sandro Chia (1992):
Italian artist Sandro Chia transformed a BMW M3 GTR into a painting on wheels that depicts human figures and emotions in vivid colours. His work symbolises the connection between man and machine, and invites us to reflect on the role of the car in modern society.

The 10th BMW Art Car, a BMW 730i designed by Spanish artist César Manrique in 1990, is also on show at the BMW Museum as part of its permanent exhibition.

Paris. Parallel to the market launch of the new BMW 1 Series, the new BMW X3 and the new BMW M5, the BMW Group will present the next steps in its unchanged product strategy at the Mondial de l'Auto Paris 2024. BMW is showing two Neue Klasse Vision Vehicles in Paris, which provide an outlook on the wide range of BMW's future model portfolio.
The BMW Vision New Class is a sporty electric sedan for the premium mid-range. The BMW Vision New Class X transfers the philosophy and technology of the future generation of vehicles to the Sports Activity Vehicle segment.

"With the two vision cars for Neue Klasse we are showing how we are going to change the look & feel of the BMW brand. Many aspects of our cars will be completely new and yet we believe that the Neue Klasse will reflect the very essence of the BMW brand", says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design.

The new BMW iX2 features in-car entertainment highlight UNO® Car Party! And Paramount+.
With UNO® Car Party! in the BMW iX2, the BMW Group is showing the next in-car gaming highlight. Since the end of August 2024, the game has already been available in over 500,000 BMW and MINI vehicles via the AirConsole platform. In addition, it was only at the beginning of October that the BMW Group brought the popular subscription streaming service Paramount+ into the vehicle, offering subscribers access to a wide range of blockbusters, new originals and hit series such as Star Trek Discovery. Customers have access to in-car entertainment highlights in their vehicles with BMW and MINI Operating System 9 in conjunction with BMW Digital Premium or the MINI Connected Package*.

In addition to the outlook for the BMW Neue Klasse and new digital services, also hydrogen technology is key topic at the Mondial de l'Auto Paris 2024, as a further expression of the BMW Group's open technology drive strategy.

BMW will launch its first hydrogen-powered production model in 2028. 
After successfully testing the BMW iX5 Hydrogen pilot fleet worldwide, the BMW Group is now preparing for series production of vehicles with hydrogen drive systems in 2028. The series production models will be integrated into BMW’s existing portfolio. Hydrogen is recognized as a promising future energy carrier of the future, actingas an effective storage medium for renewable energy sources, helping to balance supply and demand and enabling a more stable and reliable integration of renewables into the energy grid.

Het iconische Britse merk verbindt Londen binnenkort met… Knokke! MINI kondigde onlangs zijn gloednieuwe generatie elektrische modellen aan en stelt deze voor het eerst aan het Belgische publiek voor in het nieuwe concept 'ZOUTE GALLERY by EY', recht tegenover het befaamde, pas gerenoveerde Albertplein. Naast MINI huist ook Bonhams in deze tent, die op zondag het decor is van de bekende Zoute Sale. Het concept? Een tentoonstelling van oude en klassieke wagens met een ongeëvenaarde tijdloze stijl en elegantie, aangevuld met kunstwerken van gerenommeerde kunstenaars. Heel weinig autopartners kregen er tentoonstellingsruimte – maar voor MINI Belux was dat wel het geval!

Op de MINI-stand zijn de gloednieuwe MINI Cooper Electric en MINI Countryman te bewonderen. Deze twee Belgische premières zullen niet onopgemerkt voorbijgaan dankzij hun nieuwe, puristische design dat de verantwoordelijke houding van het merk weerspiegelt, nu het een nieuw tijdperk in zijn bestaan betreedt.

The latest new models with electrified powertrains from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands, plus Vision Vehicles and concepts for individual mobility in tomorrow’s world all serve to underline the company’s innovative strength in these fields. As the dawn of a new era in personal mobility approaches, the BMW Group is set to unveil its latest highlight, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which brings together the Group’s development expertise in the three crucial disciplines for the future of mobility.

The IAA Mobility show is being staged in Munich for the second time. For the BMW Group and its brands, this provides an excellent opportunity to enter into constructive dialogue on the future of individual mobility with local people, as well as with visitors to the show from outside Munich and other stakeholders. The IAA Mobility Summit at the exhibition centre and the BMW Group’s Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich will be the main arenas where BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad present their new products on 5 – 10 September 2023. Among the models visitors can acquaint themselves with here alongside the BMW Vision Neue Klasse is the fully electric BMW i5. And they can also experience the world premieres of the new fully electric MINI Cooper, new fully electric MINI Countryman and BMW CE 02 eParkourer.

Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public, ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5 – 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA Mobility 2023. The current model portfolios of the BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands are presented here, along with the latest BMW and MINI Lifestyle collections. Plus, starting on 2 September 2023, BMW Lifestyle together with BMW M GmbH will be running a GOODS WITH FREUDE pop-up store in the Hofstatt shopping centre at No. 10 Sendlinger Straße. Located just a few minutes’ walk away from the Open Space, the store will feature both familiar lifestyle articles and the new BMW Lifestyle collection.

World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range. Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission together with its power electronics. The highly integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km [256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 20.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 – 470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 – 18.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment, which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models – meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time, maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment, as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation. Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle, increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with various target groups around the world. This allows selected test groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air, through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of 180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential – provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at all times.

Munich. The character of the Concept i4 is not only a product of its design, but also of its visionary sound profile. Hans Zimmer composed the sound of the BMW Concept i4 together with BMW sound designer Renzo Vitale under the brand name BMW IconicSounds Electric. BMW IconicSounds Electric will imbue BMW’s electric models with extra emotional depth by connecting the driver with the vehicle’s character on another level through individual tones and sounds.

“Renzo and I were inspired to bring together the past and future of BMW with the sound for the BMW Concept i4,” explains Zimmer. “We hope the sound we created is classic yet surprising and has a feeling of lightness that is fitting for the BMW brand.” The aural repertoire of the BMW Concept i4 stretches from the driving sounds in the Experience Mode “Core” to the more intense tones of “Sport”. Acoustic accompaniments to a door opening and when starting the car are likewise part of its soundscape.

Sound by Hans Zimmer is the starting signal for electric driving pleasure.

Hans Zimmer and Renzo Vitale presented the new start/stop sound in Zimmer’s Santa Monica studio back in November 2019. The ready-to-drive sound for all-electric BMW models and BMW plug-in hybrids will be introduced as a standard feature worldwide from July 2020. “The ability to design the sound in our vehicles makes it possible for us to spark positive emotions,” says Vitale. “The new start/stop sound is intended to instil a sense of excitement at the prospect of electric driving when the customer gets into their vehicle and begins the journey.”

BMW IconicSounds Electric.

The silence of electric drive systems is often cited as a major benefit of electric mobility. As the choice of electrified models increases, however, it also means some drivers are missing out on the emotional appeal of sound. Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President Customer and Brand BMW: “Sound has always played an important role in the emotionalisation of our vehicles. Now we are taking the joy of sheer driving pleasure to a new level and are particularly pleased to be working with Hans Zimmer to create the new sound world of electric mobility at BMW. This collaboration will result in our forward-looking sound offering for electrified vehicles: BMW IconicSounds Electric.”

The BMW Concept i4 drive sound is the second developed for electric BMW vehicles with Hans Zimmer, following the presentation of the electric sound for the BMW Vision M NEXT at the #NEXTGen event in Munich in June 2019. “We have an extraordinary opportunity to turn electric driving in a BMW into a very special experience with the help of great sounds,” Zimmer commented in 2019. “I am relishing the challenge of co-designing the composition for future electric BMWs

Munchen/Genève: BMW gaat in sneltempo verder met de elektrificatie van zijn gamma en presenteert de nieuwste plug-in hybride modellen op het komende Autosalon van Genève (7 tot en met 17 maart). Tegelijk presenteert BMW een nieuwe sports activity vehicle (SAV) met elektrische aandrijving: de BMW X3 wordt vanaf december 2019 ook als plug-in hybride geproduceerd. Daarmee is de BMW X3 de eerste SAV die BMW aanbiedt met zowel een conventionele verbrandingsmotor als met een plug-in hybride aandrijflijn – en in 2020 volgt ook nog een volledig elektrisch aangedreven versie.

In 2018 verstevigde BMW Group opnieuw zijn positie als pionier en marktleider op het gebied van auto’s met een vorm van elektrische aandrijving (bron: IHS Markit New Registrations 2018 Report 04.01. 2019). Met een marktaandeel wereldwijd van meer dan 9% is BMW Group de grootste van de premium aanbieders van auto’s met puur elektrische en plug-in hybride aandrijving. In 2018 was de BMW Group in Duitsland, China én België de marktleider in het premium segment van auto’s met elektrische aandrijving. Met een marktaandeel van meer dan 16% stond BMW Group opnieuw ook in Europa op de eerste plaats in de verkoopranglijst van auto’s met elektrische aandrijving. BMW Group noteerde in 2018 een wereldwijd verkooprecord met meer dan 140.000 puur elektrische en plug-in hybride auto’s. Dat is een toename van 38,4% ten opzichte van 2017.

Als één van de vier toekomstgerichte onderwerpen van ACES (Autonomous, Connected, Electrified and Services/Shared – ofwel autonoom, verbonden, geëlektrificeerd en diensten/delen), is elektrische mobiliteit een van de belangrijkste aspecten van BMW’s strategie NUMBER ONE > NEXT. BMW Group wil tegen eind dit jaar meer dan een half miljoen auto’s met elektrische aandrijving op de weg hebben.

BMW Group zal eind 2019 twaalf modellen met elektrische aandrijving in het gamma hebben, te weten: de volledig elektrisch aangedreven BMW i3 (BMW i3: gecombineerd energieverbruik: 13,1 kWh/ 100 km*; BMW i3s: gecombineerd energieverbruik: 14,0-14,6 kWh/100 km*), de BMW i8 Coupé (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 1,8 l/100 km; gecombineerd energieverbruik: 14,0 kWh/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-emissie uit brandstof: 42 g/km*) en de BMW i8 Roadster (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 2,0 l/100 km; gecombineerd energieverbruik: 14,5 kWh/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-emissie uit brandstof: 46 g/km*). En dan zijn er nog de plug-in hybride varianten van de BMW X5, de BMW X3, de BMW 2 Reeks, de BMW 3 Reeks, de BMW 5 Reeks, de BMW 7 Reeks en de BMW X1 xDrive25Le die in China wordt geproduceerd voor de lokale markt. De MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 2,4-2,5 l/100 km; gecombineerd energieverbruik 13,4-13,7 kWh/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-emissie: 55-56 g/km*) en de volledig elektrische MINI completeren het twaalftal geëlektrificeerde modellen. Niet alleen dat grote aantal is uniek, ook de variëteit is dat – van het premium compacte segment via het (hogere) middensegment tot in het segment van de luxe, sportieve auto’s én in de segmenten van de sportauto’s en de SAV’s. BMW Group verwacht dat in 2025 het aanbod van elektrische modellen van de merken in de groep is toegenomen tot minimaal 25.

Wereldpremière: de BMW X3 xDrive30e met plug-in hybride aandrijving.

BMW start in december 2019 met de productie van een SAV met plug-in hybride aandrijving en breidt daarmee zijn gamma van auto’s met elektrische aandrijving verder uit. De BMW X3 xDrive30e maakt zijn werelddebuut op de komende Autosalon van Genève. De auto combineert de veelzijdigheid van een premium middelgrote SAV met de vooruitstrevende BMW eDrive technologie. Zijn robuuste karakter, sportieve prestaties en BMW xDrive vierwielaandrijving – ook actief als alleen de elektromotor de auto aandrijft – zijn gecombineerd met een bijzonder laag brandstofverbruik en bijzonder lage emissie. Met de allernieuwste accutechnologie heeft de BMW X3 xDrive30e een puur elektrische actieradius van tot wel 50 kilometer*. Dankzij BMW eDrive technologie is het gecombineerde brandstofverbruik beperkt tot minder dan 2,4 l/100 km*, met een CO2-emissie van hooguit 56 g/km*.

Het plug-in hybride systeem in de BMW X3 xDrive30e bestaat uit een 4-cilinder benzinemotor met BMW TwinPower Turbo techniek en een elektromotor. Beide krachtbronnen drijven de wielen aan via een 8-traps Steptronic transmissie en de intelligente vierwielaandrijving. Het systeemvermogen bedraagt 185 kW (252 pk) en kan tijdelijk worden verhoogd met 30 kW (41 pk) door gebruikmaking van het piekvermogen van de elektromotor. De BMW X3 xDrive30e accelereert in slechts 6,5 seconden (onder voorbehoud) vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u.

Het nieuwste plug-in hybride model van BMW is uitgerust met een lithium-ion-accu die ruimtebesparend onder de achterbank is gemonteerd. Met een bagageruimte van 450 liter doet de BMW X3 xDrive30e niet onder voor de modelvarianten met conventionele aandrijflijn.

Andere wereldpremières in Genève: BMW 330e Berline, BMW X5 xDrive45e en de plug-in hybride versies van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks.

De leidende rol van BMW Group op het gebied van elektrische aandrijving komt ook tot uitdrukking in het huidige motorengamma. Op de Autosalon van Genève van dit jaar presenteert BMW de tweede generatie van plug-in hybride modellen in drie segmenten.

De nieuwe BMW 330e Berline is bijzonder indrukwekkend, niet alleen vanwege de elektrische actieradius van 60 kilometer – ten opzichte van die van zijn voorganger een toename van maar liefst 50%. Maar ook vanwege de reductie van het brandstofverbruik tot maximaal 1,7 l/100 km* en van de CO2-emissie tot 39 g/km*. En dat alles gecombineerd met het kenmerkende rijplezier dat de sportberline biedt. Het systeemvermogen van de plug-in hybride aandrijflijn bedraagt 185 kW (252 pk) – met de mogelijkheid om dat met de standaard XtraBoost tijdelijk met nog eens 30 kW (41 pk) te verhogen. Daarmee accelereert de nieuwe BMW 330e Berline vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u in 6,0 seconden (onder voorbehoud).

Ook de nieuwste versie van de BMW X5 met plug-in hybride aandrijving biedt meer vermogen, verbeterde efficiency en een grotere elektrische actieradius. De nieuwe BMW X5 xDrive45e is nu uitgerust met een aangepaste 6-cilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor en een elektromotor – met een systeemvermogen dat is toegenomen tot 290 kW (394 pk). Het kost deze SAV slechts 5,6 seconden (onder voorbehoud) om vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u te accelereren. De elektrische actieradius bedraagt ongeveer 80 kilometer*, bijna drie keer zo veel als die van zijn voorganger. Daardoor zijn de dagelijkse ritten naar het werk en naar huis gemakkelijk puur elektrisch aangedreven af te leggen, zodat de lokale CO2-emissie wordt gereduceerd tot 0 g/km. Maar met zijn 69 liter brandstoftank is de BMW X5 xDrive45e ook perfect geschikt voor lange ritten. De vooruitstrevende plug-in hybride aandrijftechnologie reduceert het gecombineerde brandstofverbruik tot maximaal 2,1 l/100 km* en de CO2-emissie uit brandstof tot maximaal 49 g/km*. De kwaliteiten als reisauto blijken ook uit de veelzijdige bagageruimte. De inhoud van 500 tot 1.716 liter is slechts weinig minder dan die van de modelvarianten met conventionele aandrijving.

De grensverleggende, veelzijdige kwaliteiten van de BMW X5 xDrive45e worden perfect aangevuld door de intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMWxDrive. Die brengt de power van beide krachtbronnen over naar alle vier wielen en zorgt voor sportief rijplezier op de weg en uitmuntende tractie en prestaties op onverhard terrein.

In de plug-in hybride varianten van de nieuwe BMW 7 Reeks zijn de sportieve flair, het reiscomfort en de aangename ambiance van een luxueuze berline gecombineerd met de mogelijkheid om lokaal emissievrij en vrijwel geluidloos te rijden. De elektrische actieradius is met ongeveer 30% uitgebreid ten opzichte van de actieradius van de voorgangers en bedraagt nu 50 tot 58 kilometer*. Het gamma omvat de BMW 745e (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 2,1-2,3 l/100 km; gecombineerd energieverbruik 15,1-15,6 kWh/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-emissie: 48-52 g/km*), de langere BMW 745Le (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 2,2-2,3 l/100 km; gecombineerd energieverbruik: 15,6-15,7 kWh/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-emissie: 50-53 g/km) en de BMW 745Le xDrive (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 2,3-2,6 l/100 km; gecombineerd energieverbruik: 15,8-16,3 kWh/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-emissie: 52-59 g/km*) met verlengde wielbasis en vierwielaandrijving. De aandrijflijn bestaat nu uit een speciaal voor deze versie aangepaste 6-cilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor in combinatie met een elektromotor. Als de bestuurder met de Driving Experience Control de SPORT-modus kiest, kan hij beschikken over een systeemvermogen van 290 kW (394 pk). De nieuwe BMW 745e accelereert in 5,2 seconden vanuit stilstand naar 100 km/u, de nieuwe BMW 745Le doet dat in 5,3 seconden en de nieuwe BMW 745Le xDrive in slechts 5,1 seconden.

BMW 530e Berline en BMW 225xe Active Tourer met doorontwikkelde lithium-ion-accu’s en een grotere elektrische actieradius.

Nieuwe ontwikkelingen op het gebied van batterijceltechnologie leidden ook tot een uitbreiding van de mogelijkheden om lokaal emissievrij te rijden in de plug-in hybride varianten van de BMW 5 Reeks en BMW 2 Reeks. Hoewel de afmetingen niet zijn veranderd, is de brutocapaciteit van de nieuwe lithium-ion-accu voor de plug-in hybride versie van de BMW 5 Reeks Berline nu toegenomen van 9,2 tot 12,0 kWh. Dat betekent dat de puur elektrische actieradius met meer dan 30% is gegroeid tot 64 kilometer*. De BMW 530e Berline heeft nu een gecombineerd brandstofverbruik van 1,7 l/100 km* en een CO2-emissie van 38 g/km*. Als extra modelvariant verschijnt vanaf juli 2019 de vierwielaangedreven BMW 530e xDrive Berline. Die heeft een puur elektrische actieradius van maximaal 57 kilometer*. Het gecombineerde brandstofverbruik bedraagt 1,9 l/100 km* met een CO2-emissie van 44 g/km*.

In de BMW 225xe Active Tourer plaveit state-of-the-art batterijceltechnologie de weg voor nog lagere verbruikscijfers en een toename van 25% van de puur elektrische actieradius tot 47 kilometer*. Ook hier zijn de afmetingen gelijk gebleven, maar is de brutocapaciteit van de lithium-ion-accu toegenomen van 7,7 tot 9,7 kWh. Het gecombineerde brandstofverbruik van de BMW 225xe Active Tourer is 1,9 l/100 km*, het gecombineerde energieverbruik 14,7 kWh/100 km en de CO2-emissie 43 g/km*. De speciaal voor de hybrideversie ontwikkelde vierwielaandrijving draagt bij aan de sportieve en veelzijdige rijeigenschappen van de BMW 225xe ActiveTourer. De standaarduitrusting en de opties omvatten talloze moderne rijdersassistentiesystemen en de nieuwste innovaties op het gebied van intelligente connectiviteit en digitale diensten – voor extra gemak bij het opladen van de hoogvoltage-accu en een nog intensere beleving van elektrisch rijden.

De modernste accutechnologie, nieuw bedieningssysteem en innovatieve digitale diensten voor een optimale elektrische rijervaring.

Behalve de nieuwste accutechnologie zijn de plug-in hybride varianten van de nieuwe BMW 3 Reeks Berline, BMW X5 en BMW 7 Reeks ook voorzien van een nieuw display- en bedieningssysteem en innovatieve digitale diensten voor een nog intensere beleving van elektrisch rijden. De standaarduitrusting omvat de BMW Live Cockpit Professional met nieuw vormgegeven schermen in het instrumentenpaneel en de Control Display, die heldere informatie geeft over de laadtoestand van de accu, de resterende elektrische actieradius en de ingestelde modus van de plug-in hybride aandrijving. De knoppen voor het selecteren van de rijmodus zijn nu geïntegreerd in de Driving Experience Control. Daarmee is met een simpele druk op de knop de SPORT-modus in te schakelen voor extra dynamische instellingen en de ADAPTIVE-modus voor instellingen die zijn aangepast aan de rijstijl van de bestuurder en de situatie. Ook zijn er nog drie aandrijfmodi te kiezen – HYBRID, ELECTRIC en BATTERY CONTROL. De HYBRID-modus is de standaardinstelling die zorgt voor balans en optimale samenwerking van de verbrandingsmotor en de elektromotor. Het is ook mogelijk om via het iDrive menu de ELECTRIC-modus te kiezen als standaardmodus. De HYBRID-knop moet twee keer worden ingedrukt om de extra efficiënte HYBRID ECO PRO-modus te activeren. De coasting-functie draagt eveneens bij aan een nog verdere reductie van het brandstofverbruik.

Het intelligente energiemanagementsysteem is ook geoptimaliseerd. Door de koppeling aan het navigatiesysteem is de samenwerking van de verbrandings- en de elektromotor nog preciezer aangepast aan de route en de situatie op de weg. In de BMW 330e Berline en de BMW X5 xDrive45e maakt het energiemanagementsysteem gebruik van gegevens van de navigatie en van sensors om optimaal remenergie terug te winnen in de HYBRID ECO PRO-modus. Als de auto een kruising of een voorligger nadert, kan de terugwinning van de remenergie worden geïntensiveerd om de auto af te remmen.

Tijdens het laadproces geeft het volledig digitale instrumentenpaneel grafisch informatie weer over de actuele laadstatus van de accu en dus de resterende elektrische actieradius. De grafische weergave – voor elke auto specifiek ontworpen – toont ook het beschikbare ampèrage bij het laadstation dat gebruikt wordt, en geeft aan wanneer de accu volledig is opgeladen.

Nieuwe digitale diensten maken het aantrekkelijker en gemakkelijker om de hoogvoltage-accu onderweg op te laden. Het navigatiesysteem toont bijvoorbeeld de hotels, restaurants, cafés, bezienswaardigheden en culturele attracties in de nabijheid van het geselecteerde openbare oplaadpunt. Klanten ontvangen ook een verwachting van de beschikbaarheid/bezetting van het laadstation. Verder biedt BMW gebruikers van ChargeNow de mogelijkheid om een laadpunt voor een beperkte tijd de reserveren vanuit de auto (onder voorbehoud van lancering in Belux).

BMW heeft een kenmerkend geluid ontwikkeld voor de modellen met elektrische aandrijving, waarmee voetgangers worden gewaarschuwd voor de aanwezigheid van de verder geluidloze auto. Het geluid is via een speakersysteem hoorbaar als de auto langzaam en elektrisch rijdt. Overigens heeft het geluid geen nadelige invloed op het geluidscomfort van de inzittenden van de BMW.

Alle verbruiks-, emissie-, prestatie- en actieradiuscijfers onder voorbehoud.

Gegevens over brandstofverbruik, CO2-uitstoot, elektriciteitsverbruik en bereik zijn vastgesteld in overeenstemming met de voorgeschreven meetprocedure Verordening (EU) 2007/715. De cijfers hebben betrekking op een voertuig met basisuitrusting in Duitsland, de uiteenlopende waarden houden rekening met verschillen in de geselecteerde wiel- en bandenmaat en optionele uitrusting.

De met een * gemarkeerde gegevens zijn berekend op basis van de nieuwe WLTP-testcyclus en voor vergelijkingsdoeleinden omgerekend naar NEDC. Voor deze auto’s kunnen andere getallen dan hier vermeld van toepassing zijn voor de berekening van belastingen en andere autogerelateerde toeslagen die (ook) zijn gebaseerd op de CO2-emissie.

The world premiere of the seventh-generation sports sedan is the highlight of the Mondial de l’Automobile 2018 show in Paris. And it will celebrate its global debut alongside an array of other new models at the press conference taking place at 9.00 a.m. CET on Tuesday, 2 October 2018. Munich. The BMW Group has reduced CO2 emissions from its new car fleet in Europe (EU 28) to 122 grams/kilometre. Compared to 2016, this marks a reduction of a further 2 gram/kilometre (2016: 124g/km). The BMW Group has been reducing CO2 emissions from its EU fleet for years: since 1995, the average CO2 emissions for new BMW Group vehicles sold in Europe has fallen by more than 42%.

“This development clearly shows that our e-mobility strategy is successful. We are adding more electric drives to our vehicle fleet, while also working on fuel-saving technologies for our conventional drives,” said Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

In 2017, the BMW Group sold more than 100,000 electrified vehicles. Last year, the BMW Group accounted for more newly registered electrified vehicles (all-electric + plug-in hybrid) than any other manufacturer in Europe, with a share of 21 percent. In the electrified vehicle segment, the BMW Group’s market share is already three times larger than its share of the conventional vehicle market.

“By 2025, our global vehicle portfolio will include 25 fully- or part-electric models. At last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, we unveiled our take on the future of e‑mobility with the BMW iVision Dynamics. This vehicle will become reality: we will build it in Munich – as the BMW i4,” Krüger added.

Op de BMW Group Belux persconferentie worden maar liefst vijf van de zeven wereldpremières van het Brusselse Autosalon voorgesteld om 9u ‘s ochtends.
