Munich. The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse celebrates its world premiere at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It showcases the new BMW M design language and sets a clear signal for the brand’s all-electric future. The future BMW M product portfolio combines expressive design, high performance and innovative materials.

The vehicle builds a bridge between its history and motorsport.
It is instantly recognisable as a high-performance automobile. BMW M thus remains true to its guiding principle: “Born on the racetrack. Made for the streets.”

“The new BMW M design language forms the expressive spearhead of the Neue Klasse – determined and purposeful,” says Oliver Heilmer, Head of Design BMW Compact Class, Neue Klasse and BMW M. “At BMW M, form consistently follows function. Every detail serves performance. This project is truly special to me because it carries the BMW M character into a new era.”

Form, function and motorsport references in the exterior design.
Powerful proportions, precise lines and a muscular shoulder section with wide wheel arches define the unmistakable BMW M character.

Numerous M-specific design measures optimise aerodynamics – including the reinterpreted M aero exterior mirrors in the colours of BMW M.

A distinctive air outlet shapes the V-shaped front bonnet. It supports the cooling of the electric drivetrain.

A forward-facing shark nose and a light signature with depth effect characterise the front end. Headlights and kidney grille form a single unit. The new M Yellow Lights create a focused view of the road. The yellow light icons are set to become a new signature feature of future BMW M automobiles and reference GT racing cars as well as the BMW M Hybrid V8.

The front apron of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse adopts a trimaran-style bumper, inspired by the form of high-speed sailing boats. The three-part design underlines the vehicle’s technical appearance. It also provides structural support for the front splitter – an aerodynamic element at the lower edge of the front end.

Another new lighting accent for future BMW M automobiles are the three-dimensional Track Lights located in the outer sections of the front apron.

Track Lights and trimaran design also shape the rear apron of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse. The Track Lights frame the trimaran element above the floating diffuser. A striking ducktail spoiler improves aerodynamics, increases downforce at the rear axle and at the same time sets a striking accent within the clean surface design of the rear end.

Natural fibre elements are used in both the exterior and interior of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse – for example in the front splitter, the bonnet air outlet and the diffuser. For the first time, natural fibre is not only used in its pure form but also in a refined finish with M branding in the roof graphic.

The newly developed Monza Red metallic paint finish and the red-and-blue coded centre-lock wheels strengthen the visual link to BMW M and motorsport.

Four newly developed bucket seats provide secure support even in highly dynamic driving situations and integrate structural elements made from natural fibre materials. The seat upholstery in Bathurst Blue and Berry Red picks up the BMW M colours in a two-tone Merino leather finish. Red five-point belts emphasise the sporty character.

For the first time in a BMW M vehicle, high-quality black nubuck leather is used. It can be found on the steering wheel, the door panels and the roll bar.

The floating dashboard is finished in black knit material and features M-specific hexagonal backlighting.

Red accents on the M gear selector, the shift paddles on the M steering wheel and in the digital displays add targeted sporty highlights in the cockpit and put performance centre stage.

High performance and BMW M driving experience in a new dimension.
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse represents the next chapter in the M-typical blend of dynamics, agility and precision. The innovative BMW M eDrive drive concept with four electric motors and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control elevates driving experience and racetrack capability to a new level.

“Even in the new all-electric era, we continue the M-typical tradition of transferring both technological innovations and defining design features directly from motorsport into series production,” says Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH.

BMW M eDrive is based on the Neue Klasse’s Gen6 technology and was developed specifically for all-electric BMW M automobiles. The drivetrain concept combines four electric motors with the central control software BMW M Dynamic Performance Control in the high-performance computer Heart of Joy. Thanks to the integrated, wheel-specific control of the drivetrain and braking systems, BMW M eDrive opens up new potential for driving dynamics and driving safety. It enables high recuperation performance, optimal traction right up to the limit and particularly direct response.

The 800-volt technology and the high-voltage battery with an energy content of more than 100 kWh create the conditions for long-range capability. A BMW M-specific optimised version of sixth-generation cylindrical cells provides particularly high output when delivering energy to the electric motors and during charging. The housing of the high-voltage battery is structurally integrated with both the front and rear axle, thereby additionally contributing to driving dynamics.

Munich. BMW M’s high-performance vehicles will soon deliver the ‘Ultimate Driving Machine’ experience in electric form. From 2027, the BMW M Neue Klasse will usher in a new era in the high-performance vehicle segment and, for the first time, bring BMW M’s motto, “Born on the racetrack. Made for the streets. Core of a passionate community”, to life with a fully electric drivetrain. “The models of BMW M Neue Klasse are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment,” says Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH. “With the new technology of the Neue Klasse’s modular system, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use.”

The BMW M Neue Klasse embodies the DNA of the high-performance brand with authenticity and advances the distinct BMW M driving experience. The fully electric drivetrain redefines the brand’s dynamics, combining driving pleasure with racetrack capability in an unprecedented way. Long range, ultra-fast charging thanks to 800-volt technology, and highly efficient energy recuperation make the BMW M Neue Klasse a versatile everyday companion. The newly developed architecture with centrally controlled individual wheel drive opens up a new dimension of driving dynamics and further increases the driving safety of all BMW M next-generation vehicles.

Innovative BMW M eDrive concept with fully integrated M Dynamic Performance Control.
The BMW M Neue Klasse has been developed from the ground up. At the core of the new architecture is BMW M eDrive, which is based on the BMW Gen6 technology of the Neue Klasse. Each wheel is driven by an electric motor. In combination with the specific control software of the ‘Heart of Joy’, ‘BMW M Dynamic Performance Control’, this opens up new potential in terms of driving dynamics and safety in high-performance vehicles. The system enables maximum recuperation and optimum traction right up to the limit, as well as a more direct response.

In all electric models of the BMW M Neue Klasse, two electric drive units on the front and rear axles, each with one electric motor per wheel, ensure driving performance expected from BMW M. Each of the four electric motors drives one wheel. This concept combines all the advantages of rear-wheel and all-wheel drive while enhancing driving dynamics on the road and racetrack. Additionally, the front axle can be completely decoupled. The result is BMW M’s renowned rear-wheel drive with its dynamic driving characteristics, enhanced efficiency, and increased range, for example, on longer motorway journeys. Various predefined driving modes, emulated gear shifts, and an exclusive soundscape fitting to the Neue Klasse are used to ensure the maximum BMW M driving experience and increased drivability. These are just some of many examples of how BMW M brings emotion to life in the fully electric BMW M Neue Klasse.

The electric drive units of BMW M eDrive are characterised by high power density and are the most powerful drives BMW M has ever used. In both drive units, the electric motors are arranged in parallel, each delivering power to one gearbox per wheel. The drive units also integrate the inverter for controlling the electric motors and the oil supply. The overall system allows the torque and power per wheel to be controlled. This enables optimum traction, continuous torque distribution between the electrohydraulic braking system and the electric motors, and maximised brake energy recuperation. The result is a level of performance previously unattained in BMW M’s production vehicles.

Powerful high-voltage battery for peak performance and faster charging.
The high-voltage battery, with a capacity exceeding 100 kWh and supplying energy to the BMW M eDrive system, has also been specifically adapted to meet the demands of high-performance vehicles. The focus remains on compatibility with both road and racetrack use. The starting point was adapting the cell chemistry, which now follows a performance-optimised ‘design to power’ approach. The cooling system and Energy Master support this, optimised for higher currents. As a result, the revised high-voltage battery in the BMW M Neue Klasse offers even higher peak output and charging power compared to the BMW Neue Klasse. Additionally, the BMW M Neue Klasse offers the highest recuperation values within Gen6 and all BMW Neue Klasse models. The high-voltage storage housing also serves as a structural component of the vehicle and is connected to the front and rear axles. The higher resulting stiffness in the overall vehicle also leads to improved driving dynamics.

The significant gains in driving dynamics are also supported by the Neue Klasse’s simple, future-oriented, and forward-compatible central control and electronics architecture. It follows a system hierarchy without overlapping functions. As with all BMW Neue Klasse models, four high-performance computers, known as ‘Superbrains’, consolidate computing power for driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment, and basic and comfort functions. In addition to higher overall performance through accelerated data exchange, the BMW M Neue Klasse also benefits from faster software updates and upgrades.

Innovative lightweight design with first-time use of natural fibre elements.
Apart from innovations related to driving performance, high-tech will be also reflected by new and innovative materials. Lightweight construction has always played an important role in high-performance models. Therefore, BMW M will introduce for the very first-time natural fibre elements within the fully electric BMW M high-performance model line-up.

The brand gained significant experience in durability, production, and integration using natural fibre in motorsport since 2019. This material offers similar properties to carbon fibre but can be produced with around 40 per cent less CO₂e.

The BMW M Performance Parts for the exterior set individual accents in appearance and at the same time fulfil functional requirements in terms of lightweight construction and aerodynamics. They have been specially developed for the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the new BMW i5 Touring with M Sport Package or M Sport Package Pro and are perfectly matched to the geometry and design of the vehicle. All Carbon components are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), sealed with clear lacquer to achieve a high-quality finish, and give the car a sharp and sporty look from all angles.

The three-part M Performance Carbon front splitter makes a confident statement of exclusive sportiness and enhances the dynamic driving potential of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the new BMW i5 Touring. Handcrafted to perfection, it provides performance-oriented downforce as well as a striking appearance. For an even more exclusive look, the M Performance front splitter is also available in high-gloss black on the left and right.

In addition to the M Performance Carbon side sill attachments, which give the vehicle's profile even more visual length and depth, the new M Performance accent stripes in Frozen Black emphasise the dynamically flowing lines of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the new BMW i5 Touring. The digitally printed accent stripes are in matt anthracite and feature the M Performance lettering. The M Performance side sill decals, which consist of a striking curved line in matt grey, highlight the vehicle’s profile even further. The decals are located below the doors and provide an elegant colour accent, especially on the black side sills. The exclusive M Performance Frozen Black accent stripes emphasise the sporty elegance and accentuate the shoulder area along the entire length of the vehicle. The high-quality film set is road wash resistant and optimised for the vehicle geometry of the BMW 5 Series Touring and the BMW i5 Touring.

The striking M Carbon exterior mirror caps and the M Performance Aramid aerial cover provide further accents for the individual and sporty profile of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the new BMW i5 Touring. Aramid-reinforced plastic is very similar to CFRP, but has a high electromagnetic permeability.

The three-piece M Performance rear diffuser is also made from aramid. It emphasises the powerfully designed rear of the vehicle even more impressively and also enables the luggage compartment lid to be opened and closed without touching it. The M Performance high-gloss black roof spoiler and M Performance Carbon rear fins add a touch of sportiness and elegance.

High-quality interior options bring racing flair to the cockpit.

The M Performance Carbon door sill trims are an unmistakable sign of the dynamic orientation of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the new BMW i5 Touring. With their M Performance lettering, they are an eye-catching feature when the doors are open. For a particularly elegant first impression, M aluminium door sill trims are also available. The M Performance door projector slides supplement the existing BMW LED door projector with three interchangeable M Performance graphics and provide a particularly characteristic entry and exit experience even at dusk.

The M Performance floor mats with leather-look edging, contrasting stitching and a seam in BMW M colours add a sporty touch to the interior. The purist design and precise workmanship of the M Performance stainless steel pedal pads with asymmetric rubber profiles give the driver's footwell an unmistakably dynamic, high-tech look.

The M Performance key case also makes a clear performance statement on any occasion. Made from Alcantara and high quality leather in a carbon fibre look, the perfectly-fitting protective cover protects the vehicle key from scratches and is a perfect addition to the range of BMW M Performance Parts. The M Performance Carbon fuel filler cap is also available for the combustion engine and plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. It is particularly easy to fit and features M Performance lettering on brushed aluminium.

De BMW 3.0 CSL (gecombineerd brandstofverbruik: 11,0 l/100 km; gecombineerde CO2-uitstoot: 249 g/km volgens WLTP; cijfers volgens NEDC: – ) combineert een uniek design met een puristische performance-ervaring op twee zitplaatsen. Hij brengt op uiterst gefocuste wijze het concept over dat in de jaren 70 werd gecreëerd om racetechnologie die is ontworpen voor puur rijplezier op de weg over te brengen.

De BMW 3.0 CSL werd ontwikkeld met de bedoeling het beste van vijf decennia race-expertise van BMW M GmbH te combineren in een wagen met een zeer emotionele uitstraling. Alle facetten van zijn karakter – dynamische koetswerkelegantie, een klassieke sportwagencockpit, intelligente lichtgewicht constructie, een zescilinder-in-lijn motor, handgeschakelde versnellingsbak en achterwielaandrijving – zijn gebaseerd op de traditionele principes van een BMW M wagen. Ze vullen elkaar aan met de hulp van de nieuwste technologie om het ultieme symbool van fascinatie voor topprestaties te creëren in de stijl van het merk dat al 50 jaar succesvol is. Een rit in een BMW 3.0 CSL is dus niet alleen een exclusieve high-performance-ervaring, maar ook een emotionele ontmoeting met het verleden en heden van de krachtigste letter ter wereld.

De BMW 3.0 CSL als beperkte serie. Een toonbeeld van vakmanschap

De BMW 3.0 CSL wordt in een strikt beperkte oplage geproduceerd. Ter gelegenheid van de verjaardag zullen precies 50 opeenvolgende genummerde exemplaren van het speciale model te koop worden aangeboden. Van bij het begin geeft dit de BMW 3.0 CSL de status van een bijzondere wagen die een plaatsje zal vinden in de voertuigcollecties van bijzonder trouwe en enthousiaste fans van het merk BMW M.

De productie van alle wagens zal ongeveer drie maanden in beslag nemen. Ze worden stuk voor stuk gebouwd met een absolute toewijding aan uitmuntendheid op het vlak van vakmanschap en nauwkeurig gecoördineerde technologieën in een uitgebreid productieproces op de externe locatie van de BMW Group Dingolfing-fabriek in Moosthenning, Neder-Beieren. De exclusieve onderdelen van met koolstofvezel versterkte kunststof (CFRP) worden zowel in München als in de onderdelenfabriek van de BMW Group in Landshut met de hand gemaakt door speciaal aangestelde koetswerkspecialisten.

Voor het lakwerk van de BMW 3.0 CSL werd ook een specifiek proces ontwikkeld, waarbij vakmanschap en geavanceerde technologie elkaar aanvullen om elk onderdeel zijn kenmerkende kleurdesign te geven. Daarnaast is een team van 30 speciaal gekwalificeerde en ervaren technici verantwoordelijk voor de configuratie en montage van de wagens. Door de complexiteit van de productieprocessen gaat elke BMW 3.0 CSL door acht assemblagecycli in evenveel productiestations; een procedure die in totaal tot 10 dagen duurt.

Al bij al betekent het extreem hoge aandeel van individueel handwerk dat de benodigde tijd om een BMW 3.0 CSL te monteren vele malen hoger is dan die van een conventionele BMW M wagen. Na voltooiing in de fabriek ondergaat elke wagen ook een meerfasig proces voor kwaliteitscontrole en goedkeuring in de hoofdfabriek van Dingolfing voordat hij wordt vrijgegeven voor levering aan de klant. De fabriek van de BMW Group in Dingolfing is de grootste Europese productievestiging van het bedrijf. Naast verschillende BMW M wagens worden daar ook de luxeberlines van de BMW 7 Reeks en koetswerkonderdelen voor Rolls-Royce Motor Cars geproduceerd.

De succesvolle toerwagen – een rolmodel in zijn tijd

Als reïncarnatie van een legendarische sportwagen, zowel op het circuit als op de weg, bezit de BMW 3.0 CSL alle kenmerken van een puristische wagen. Hij belichaamt het plezier van klassiek rijden en een bewustzijn van de traditionele wortels van BMW M GmbH in een uniek exclusieve vorm. Zijn gelijknamige rolmodel wordt beschouwd als de eerste wagen met het DNA voor maximaal rijplezier en passie, tot op de dag van vandaag een onmiskenbare eigenschap van BMW M wagens. In het oprichtingsjaar van BMW Motorsport GmbH werd hij ontwikkeld voor gebruik in toerwagenwedstrijden, waar hij de meest succesvolle racewagen van zijn tijd werd.

De raceversie van de historische BMW 3.0 CSL won het Europees Toerwagenkampioenschap tijdens zijn eerste seizoen in 1973 – en sleepte deze titel van 1975 tot 1979 nog vijf keer achter elkaar in de wacht. Piloten als Toine Hezemans, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Chris Amon en Niki Lauda lieten de concurrentie achter zich op de Nürburgring en tal van andere circuits, al in 1975 gevolgd door de eerste overwinningen van BMW op de Amerikaanse circuits. Al deze successen hielpen de racewagens van de fabriek om internationale populariteit te winnen.

“Coupé, Sport, Lichtgewicht constructie”: nieuwe interpretatie van een legendarische formule

De wegversie van de racewagen, die werd ontwikkeld met het oog op homologatie, werd een alom bekend symbool van inspirerend rijplezier dat zich focust op de essentie, vooral in de laatste ontwikkelingsfase. CSL – deze combinatie van letters in de modelbenaming stond voor “Coupé, Sport, Leichtbau” (Coupe, Sport, Lichtgewicht constructie), een beknopte samenvatting van het succesrecept van de tweedeurs wagen.

Behalve brede wielkasten kreeg zijn coupévormige koetswerk ook een opvallende stroomlijn, met een voorspoiler, luchtstangen op de voorste zijpanelen en een dakspoiler. Een achtervleugel die de grip van de achterwielen optimaliseerde maakte de designaanpassingen ten opzichte van de andere coupés in grote BMW reeksen compleet. Hij werd niet goedgekeurd voor weggebruik en lag dus in de kofferbak bij de levering van de wagen, maar kreeg niettemin veel publieke aandacht zodat de Coupé de bijnaam “Batmobile” kreeg.

Met een grotere cilinderinhoud van 3.153 kubieke centimeter en een maximumvermogen van 151 kW/206 pk zorgde de krachtigste zescilinder-in-lijn motor met directe injectie ooit in een BMW model voor een sportieve vermogensontplooiing. Het krachtige aandrijfsysteem werd gecombineerd met verfijnde ophangingstechnologie. Zijn leeggewicht bedroeg slechts 1.270 kilogram.

Het lagere gewicht werd gerealiseerd door een doorgedreven lichtgewicht constructie. De deuren waren van aluminium, net als de motorkap en het kofferdeksel, die na het openen werden ondersteund op drijfstangen met filigraan. Tal van andere koetswerkonderdelen zoals het dak, de zijpanelen en de scheidingswand van de bagageruimte waren van bijzonder dun plaatstaal gemaakt en de verchroomde bumpers werden vervangen door kunststofschorten. Lichtgewicht kuipzetels en het weglaten van isolatiemateriaal, stuurbekrachtiging en elektrische ruiten zorgden voor een optimale gewichtsvermindering. Zo werd een totale vermogen-gewichtsverhouding van 6,2 kilogram per pk bereikt.

De nieuwe BMW 3.0 CSL is de eigentijdse herinterpretatie van al die kenmerken die verankerd zijn in zijn modelbenaming. Zijn coupévormige koetswerk legt traditionele accenten voor sportieve elegantie en expressieve dynamiek. Zijn aandrijf- en ophangingstechnologie vloeit voort uit de nieuwste ontwikkelingen voor racewagens en uiterst performante sportwagens van BMW M GmbH. En de intelligente lichtgewicht constructie bereikt een uitstekend niveau, vooral door het doorgedreven gebruik van carbon. De verhouding vermogen-gewicht van de BMW 3.0 CSL is slechts 2,9 kilogram per pk.

Als onafhankelijk model van BMW M GmbH en ondanks het beperkte aantal exemplaren heeft de BMW 3.0 CSL een compleet ontwikkelingsproces ondergaan. Naast de uitgebreide kwaliteits- en functionaliteitstests en de proefritten voor de afstelling van de rijdynamiek in uiteenlopende omstandigheden, van stadsverkeer over plattelandswegen en snelwegen tot het racecircuit, doorliep de BMW 3.0 CSL ook doorgedreven aerodynamische tests. Er werden ongeveer 200 werkuren besteed aan het optimaliseren van de luchtstroom en de aerodynamische balans van de wagen, waaronder 50 uur in de windtunnel van het aerodynamische testcentrum van de BMW Group. Bovendien moesten twee preproductievoertuigen van de BMW 3.0 CSL een veiligheidstest ondergaan in de vorm van een frontale en een zijdelingse crashtest om te voldoen aan de wettelijke vereisten op de weg.

Uniek, typisch M design, afgestemd op de technische eisen van fascinerende prestaties

Met zijn klassieke coupéverhoudingen en zijn traditionele voertuigconcept, dat een motor vooraan en een handgeschakelde versnellingsbak combineert met achterwielaandrijving, treedt de BMW 3.0 CSL in de voetsporen van zijn historische voorganger. Opvallende luchtafbuigingselementen, krachtig gevormde wielkasten, een opvallende achterspoiler en tal van andere details zijn onmiskenbaar gebaseerd op het design van de legendarische coupé uit de jaren 70.

Tegelijkertijd wordt het uiterlijk gekenmerkt door de principes die altijd van toepassing waren op BMW M wagens: de specifieke exterieurkenmerken zijn gebaseerd op de technische vereisten inzake koelluchttoevoer, aerodynamische balans en rijdynamiek, die de basis vormen voor uiterst fascinerende prestaties. Zo drukt de BMW 3.0 CSL op emotionele en authentieke wijze tijdloze racepassie uit.

Krachtige esthetiek als eerbetoon aan historische voorganger

De voorkant van de BMW 3.0 CSL, die laag op de weg zit, wijst op kracht en atletisch vermogen. Centraal staan de kenmerkende BMW nieren met een vakwerkvormig inzetstuk in een diamantstructuur. De rechtopstaande positie refereert aan de voorzijde van zijn historische voorganger. Net als de zijruitomlijstingen is het nierframe afgewerkt in gesatineerd aluminium – een designkenmerk dat de speciale status van de BMW 3.0 CSL benadrukt. Samen met de BMW nieren garanderen twee ruim bemeten uitsparingen in de voorschort, die aan de luchtinlaten van het model uit de jaren 70 doen denken, een betrouwbare koeling van de aandrijving en de remmen, zelfs in extreem dynamische rijsituaties. De sculpturale luchtvinnen op de motorkap accentueren de klassieke lijnen.

Met hun vlakke contouren creëren de koplampen de typische focus op de weg. De BMW Laser Light koplampen lichten geel op, zowel tijdens het welkomstscenario na het ontgrendelen van de deuren als wanneer de dim- en grootlichten worden geactiveerd, wat verwijst naar succesvolle GT-racewagens. Dit detail verwijst subtiel naar de sterke band met de autosport en de op dit moment meest succesvolle competitiewagen van BMW M GmbH, de BMW M4 GT3, die in 2022 zowel de piloot- als de teamkampioenschappen in de DTM won en waarvan de krachtbron op dezelfde zescilinder-in-lijn is gebaseerd als de krachtbron van de BMW 3.0 CSL. De BMW M4 GT3 behaalde meteen aan het begin van zijn racecarrière successen, net als de historische BMW 3.0 CSL, die ooit in zijn eerste seizoen het European Toerwagenkampioenschap won.

In zijaanzicht verlenen de lange motorkap en de brede wielbasis de BMW 3.0 CSL een sportieve en tegelijk klassieke elegantie. Ook de merktypische coupéverhoudingen in een drievolumedesign dragen daartoe bij. Bijzonder brede, schuin aflopende zijpanelen en brede zijwanden onderstrepen de dynamische uitstraling van de coupé, zelfs wanneer hij stilstaat, met een luchtdeflector die langs de daklijn loopt.

Brede wielkasten, centerlock-velgen die exclusief voor de banden van de BMW 3.0 CSL worden geproduceerd

Gespierde wielkasten geven een indicatie van de grote spoorbreedte die in grote mate bijdraagt aan het dynamische bochtgedrag van de wagen. Ze bieden plaats aan de gesmede lichtmetalen velgen in Y-spaakdesign, 20" op de vooras en 21" achteraan. Met hun filigrane spaken, een goudkleurige lakafwerking in de stijl van de jaren 70 en een centerlock vormen ze een hoogtepunt op het vlak van design en rijdynamiek rechtstreeks afkomstig uit de racewereld. De integratie van de modelspecifieke wielen in de voorgemonteerde assen van de BMW 3.0 CSL maakt deel uit van het productieproces in de fabriek van de BMW Group in Dingolfing. Met 930 Nm bereikt het koppel dat tijdens de assemblage van de centerlocks wordt gebruikt de hoogste waarde voor een productiewagen van de BMW Group.

De gesmede lichtmetalen velgen zijn uitgerust met Michelin-banden die exclusief voor de BMW 3.0 CSL werden ontwikkeld. Ze dragen het nummer 50 op de zijwanden van de banden en vormen een subtiele verwijzing naar de verjaardag van BMW M GmbH, toen het speciale model werd ontworpen en gebouwd.

Een staartvleugel in de stijl van de “Batmobile”

Het achteraanzicht van de BMW 3.0 CSL wordt ook gekenmerkt door krachtige esthetiek en de opnieuw geïnterpreteerde designkenmerken van zijn voorganger. Het opvallendste kenmerk is de achtervleugel, die aan de zijkant is ingesloten en het kenmerkende uiterlijk van de “Batmobile” vertaalt in een moderne designtaal. De luchtdeflector werd ontworpen om extra neerwaartse druk te genereren en zo de tractie op de achteras te optimaliseren. Hij omsluit de hele achterkant en wordt zo een dominant visueel element. Om de aerodynamische balans te optimaliseren wordt hij gecombineerd met een sterk uitgesproken carbondiffusor in de achterschort, waardoor de luchtstroom aan de onderkant wordt geoptimaliseerd.

Ook de vier uitlaatpijpen van het uitlaatsysteem, die pijlvormig in het midden van de achterschort zijn geplaatst en een bijzonder lichte titanium uitlaatdemper hebben, vormen een opvallend accent. De achterlichten van de BMW 3.0 CSL zorgen met innovatieve lichttechnologie voor een fascinerend, exclusief nachtdesign en een bijzonder levendige uitstraling. Dat wordt bereikt door filigrane laserlichtdraden die vrij lijken te zweven in de lichten en een expressief 3D-effect creëren door middel van nauwkeurige superpositie.

Gedetailleerd lakwerk in de stijl van klassieke racewagens

Al van bij het begin van de jaren 70 werd BMW Motorsport GmbH in het geheugen van de fans opgenomen, niet alleen dankzij spectaculaire racesuccessen, maar ook door een onmiskenbare look. Net als de wedstrijdwagens waren de outfits van de chauffeurs, de voertuigtransporteurs en alle andere teamuitrusting voorzien van uniforme strepen in blauw, paars en rood op een witte achtergrond – erg vernieuwend in die tijd en tot op de dag van vandaag een wereldwijd erkend handelsmerk. De BMW 3.0 CSL zet die traditie voort met een lakafwerking in Alpinweiß uni en een uitgekiend streepjespatroon in de kleuren van BMW M GmbH. De lijnen op het koetswerk weerspiegelen de dynamische oppervlakken en zetten de krachtige uitstraling van de coupé nog duidelijker in de verf.

Zowel de basiskleur als de M strepen, in technisch jargon het lakwerk genoemd, worden grotendeels met de hand aangebracht, wat een extreem hoge mate van tijd en inspanning vereist. In totaal worden 22 individuele onderdelen in een speciaal voor de BMW 3.0 CSL ontworpen proces gelakt. Er wordt bijzondere aandacht besteed aan een zeer nauwkeurige opstelling van de koetswerkvlakken en de lakwerkstrepen afgewerkt in zichtbaar carbon. Over het algemeen bestaat het grootste deel van het exterieur in Alpinweiß uni uit carboncomponenten, die met de hand zijn gelakt door specialisten. Het hoogtechnologische materiaal is enkel zichtbaar in de belettering op het dak en op de achtervleugel. Hiervoor moeten deze zones tijdens het lakproces worden blootgesteld. Om de lakwerkstrepen in de kleuren van BMW M GmbH precies te positioneren, gebruiken de lakspecialisten een maskingtechniek met laserprojectie en contourfilms op maat.

Elk onderdeel met een lakafwerking heeft een doorlooptijd van zes werkdagen. In die periode worden tot acht lakprocessen afgewerkt, telkens met de nodige tussenstappen zoals het schuren en maskeren van de kleurstrepen. Dat resulteert in een totaal van 134 lakprocessen voor elke wagen, goed voor 6.700 manuele werksessies in de lakafdeling voor de volledige kleine reeks van het speciale model.

De cijferreeksen op de deuren en het dak van de BMW 3.0 CSL, ontworpen in de stijl van vroege racewagens, bouwen een brug van het verleden naar het heden. Hun design in de stijl van racenummers is gebaseerd op het historische model van de eerste BMW M wagen, die werd ontwikkeld voor toerwagenracen, terwijl het getal 50 verwijst naar de verjaardag van BMW M GmbH. Nog een herinnering aan de jaren 70 zijn de twee BMW logo's op de C-stijl, dus vlak achter de teruglopende lijn van de achterste zijruit, beter bekend als de Hofmeister-knik.

De krachtigste zescilinder-in-lijn motor ooit gebruikt in een op de weg toegelaten BMW M wagen

De BMW 3.0 CSL beschikt over de krachtigste zescilinder-in-lijn motor die ooit in een op de weg toegelaten BMW M wagen werd gebruikt. Ook dat is traditie: in zijn laatste ontwikkelingsfase vestigde de gelijknamige voorganger een nieuw record met een motorvermogen van 151 kW/206 pk – niet alleen voor zescilinder modellen, maar voor alle tot dan gebouwde productiewagens van BMW.

Sindsdien heeft de zescilinder-in-lijn motor met M Power een indrukwekkende ontwikkeling doorgemaakt. Al in 1978 haalden motoren van hetzelfde design een vermogen van 204 kW/277 pk in de BMW M1 en vanaf 1991 250 kW/340 pk in de BMW M5 van de tweede generatie. De vijfde generatie van de BMW M3 werd in 2014 gelanceerd met een zescilinder-in-lijn van 317 kW/431 pk met M TwinPower Turbo-technologie.

De zescilinder-in-lijn motor van de BMW 3.0 CSL heeft dezelfde technologische wortels als de krachtbron van de huidige winnende DTM-wagen. De krachtbron van 3,0 liter biedt spontaan hoge toerentallen dankzij het typische M hoogtoerentalconcept en omvat onder meer een uiterst stijve krukkast in een gesloten ontwerp, een gesmede lichtgewicht krukas en een cilinderkopkern met 3D-printtechnologie. Het koelsysteem en de olietoevoer zijn ook ontworpen voor extreem dynamische rijsituaties. Voor zijn kampioenschapswinst in de DTM werd de BMW M4 GT3 aangedreven door een versie van de nieuwste zescilinder-in-lijn motor met ongeveer 600 pk, die in zijn versie ontworpen voor grootschalige productie in de huidige modellen van de BMW M3/BMW M4 reeks tot 375 kW/510 pk levert.

De versie van het aandrijfsysteem met M TwinPower Turbo-technologie, die exclusief voor de BMW 3.0 CSL werd ontwikkeld, levert een maximumvermogen van 412 kW/560 pk. Het nieuwe record voor zescilinder-in-lijn modellen van BMW M GmbH met toelating voor de weg ondersteunt de speciale status van de wagen. Zijn motor ontwikkelt een maximumkoppel van 550 Nm en fascineert met een lineaire vermogensontplooiing tot een maximumtoerental van 7.200 t/min.

Handgeschakelde 6-versnellingsbak en achterwielaandrijving voor bijzonder intens rijplezier

Om de aandrijfkracht over te brengen op de weg gebruikten de ontwikkelaars van de BMW 3.0 CSL een concept dat al tientallen jaren wordt beproefd voor maximaal rijplezier en intensieve interactie tussen bestuurder en wagen. De zescilinder-in-lijn wordt gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde 6-versnellingsbak, waarvan de spreiding en overbrengingsverhoudingen perfect zijn afgestemd op de prestatiekenmerken. Nauwkeurig omschreven schakelbewegingen maken snel en nauwkeurig schakelen mogelijk. De versnellingspookknop die exclusief voor de BMW 3.0 CSL werd gemaakt, steekt uit de middenconsole en is een luxueus accessoire. Hij wekt onmiddellijk anticipatie op voor het manuele schakelen, ligt goed in de hand en doet met zijn witte oppervlak, het gegraveerde schakelschema en het getal 50 denken aan de begindagen van BMW M GmbH in de jaren 70. Een eerbetoon aan de moderne technologie is de schakelassistent, die een snelheidsregeling gebruikt voor een slipvrije koppeling na het terugschakelen tijdens het remmen in bochten. Hij kan door de bestuurder worden geactiveerd of gedeactiveerd.

Traditioneel wordt het aandrijfkoppel uitsluitend via de achterwielen van de BMW 3.0 CSL op de weg overgebracht. Voor ambitieus gebruik op het circuit kan de bestuurder de typische lineaire M opbouw van laterale acceleratiekrachten gebruiken om de wagen met gecontroleerde driftmanoeuvres door bochten te loodsen. Het actieve M differentieel in de achterasoverbrenging garandeert ook een superieure dynamiek. Zo nodig voorkomt het systeem koppelcompensatie tussen de achterwielen en bouwt het tegelijk continu en variabel een grendeleffect op tot 100 procent. Het actieve M differentieel is gekoppeld aan DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) en past zijn grendeleffect precies aan de rijsituatie aan. Zo wordt de tractie geoptimaliseerd op wegen met verschillende wrijvingswaarden voor de achterwielen rechts en links. Bij dynamisch accelereren uit bochten krijgt de bestuurder duidelijke feedback over het grippotentieel op de achterwielen en kan hij het gaspedaal optimaal doseren.

Ophangingstechnologie exclusief afgestemd op elk model, inclusief M Carbon keramisch remsysteem en M Traction Control

Ook bij de configuratie van de ophangingstechnologie werd geavanceerde technologie gecombineerd met een methodologie voor de harmonisatie van alle componenten die gedurende vijf decennia is gerijpt. De ophangingsonderdelen die in de BMW 3.0 CSL worden gebruikt, vormen het speerpunt voor de ontwikkeling van uiterst performante sportwagens door BMW M GmbH: een vooras met dubbel gelinkte veerpoten en een M specifieke vijfpuntsachteras, een adaptieve M ophanging met elektronisch gestuurde schokdempers, de elektromechanische stuurinrichting M Servotronic met variabele verhouding en het M Carbon keramisch remsysteem met instelbare karakteristieke curves.

De geïntegreerde toepassing van alle aandrijf- en chassissystemen vond plaats tijdens intensieve testritten op de openbare weg en op racecircuits, waaronder de Nordschleife van de Nürburgring, die al 50 jaar de ultieme testbasis is voor alle BMW M wagens. Voorafgaand aan de tests hadden ingenieurs van BMW M GmbH in een computerondersteund ontwerp- en ontwikkelingsproces het digitale beeld van de BMW 3.0 CSL tot in de kleinste details ontworpen en geoptimaliseerd. Door de integratie van virtual reality en andere digitale processen kon het serieontwikkelingsproces maximaal worden versneld. Bij deze gedetailleerde simulatie- en afstelprocedure werd rekening gehouden met de modelspecifieke afmetingen, het voertuiggewicht en de verdeling van de asbelasting, de extreem hoge stijfheid van de verbindingen tussen koetswerk en ophanging en de aerodynamische balans van de BMW 3.0 CSL om vanaf het begin de typische M combinatie van wendbaarheid, dynamiek en precieze wegligging te verzekeren.

Krachtige vertragingsprestaties, geoptimaliseerde fadingstabiliteit, uitstekende thermische stabiliteit en extreem hoge slijtvastheid worden geboden door het M Carbon keramische remsysteem. Dat combineert vaste remzadels met zes zuigers en keramische remschijven van 400 x 38 millimeter op de vooras met vaste remzadels met één zuiger en keramische remschijven van 380 x 28 millimeter achteraan en rood gelakte remzadels. Dankzij het M specifieke design van het geïntegreerde remsysteem kunnen twee karakteristieke curves voor het pedaalgevoel worden weergegeven, die geselecteerd kunnen worden in het M Setup-menu.

Met de functie M Traction Control kan de bestuurder de interventiedrempels om wielslip te beperken afzonderlijk instellen. Hiervoor zijn tien niveaus beschikbaar, en een volledige deactivering van de rijstabiliteitscontrole is ook mogelijk via de M Dynamic mode. De BMW 3.0 CSL is dus perfect voorbereid op puristische prestaties op het circuit.

Intelligente lichtgewicht constructie met maximaal gebruik van carboncomponenten

In de BMW 3.0 CSL wordt de traditie van de intelligente lichtgewicht constructie, die sinds de jaren 70 wordt gecultiveerd, opnieuw geformuleerd en gemodelleerd met behulp van geavanceerde technologie. Om het gewicht van het koetswerk en het chassis te beperken, wordt er, naast het minimale gebruik van isolatiemateriaal, uitzonderlijk veel gebruikgemaakt van met koolstofvezel versterkte kunststof (CFRP). BMW M GmbH is een pionier in het gebruik van CFRP in serievoertuigen. Al in 2004 heeft het bedrijf voor het eerst een model uit een grote serie uitgerust met een carbondak.

De BMW 3.0 CSL beschikt over CFRP-componenten in vrijwel alle koetswerkonderdelen. Naast het dak, de motorkap en het kofferdeksel zijn de voor- en achterschorten volledig van carbon gemaakt. Ook de bevestigingen van de voor- en achterzijpanelen, de zijdrempels, de achterdiffusor, de achtervleugel en de achterspoiler zijn gemaakt van het hoogtechnologische materiaal. Alle carboncomponenten worden in kleine series geproduceerd, meestal met de hand en uitsluitend voor de BMW 3.0 CSL.

Bovendien leiden een doelgerichte materiaalkeuze en geavanceerde designmethodes tot een aanzienlijke gewichtsvermindering voor andere voertuigonderdelen. De dakspoiler van de BMW 3.0 CSL is gemaakt van met glasvezel versterkte kunststof. De titanium uitlaatdemper van de BMW 3.0 CSL is ongeveer 4,3 kilogram lichter dan een klassiek stalen onderdeel. De precisieveerpoten in gegoten aluminium in het motorcompartiment, die de veerpoten van de ophanging met elkaar en met de voorzijde verbinden, hebben een geometrie die nauwkeurig is afgestemd op de krachten die in verschillende rijsituaties optreden. Met behulp van numerieke modellen is de wendbaarheid en stuurprecisie geoptimaliseerd met een minimum aan materiaal en gewicht.

Puristische sportwagencockpit met M carbon volledige kuipzetels

Ook in het interieur van de BMW 3.0 CSL benadrukken het gebruik van carbon en andere lichtgewichtconstructiemaatregelen de puristische eigenschappen van een sportwagen. In plaats van extra zetels biedt de achterbank een opbergvak met twee geïntegreerde helmvakken. De CFRP-afwerking in de deurpanelen en de verminderde geluidsisolatie dragen eveneens bij tot de uiterst sportieve flair. De bestuurder en voorpassagier zitten in M carbon volledige kuipzetels, die elke kilometer van de rit een uiterst emotioneel en onnavolgbaar racegevoel uitstralen. De diagonale verbindingen tussen het zitgedeelte en de rugleuning doen denken aan het constructieprincipe van de lichtgewicht zetels in het historische model. De zithoogte en hellingshoek kunnen uitsluitend in een werkplaats worden ingesteld via een driefasige schroefverbinding. De overlangse positie kan manueel worden aangepast met een hendel aan de voorrand van de zetel. Bovendien bieden de M carbon volledige kuipzetels verwijderbare hoofdsteuninzetstukken.

Het interieur van de BMW 3.0 CSL zich op als een puristische en exclusieve sportwagencockpit. Zeteloppervlakken in zwart Alcantara en M veiligheidsgordels worden gecombineerd met een M Alcantara stuur, een antracietkleurige hemelbekleding, oppervlakken in zwart Alcantara en mat carbon. Contrasterende stiknaden en andere witte accenten sluiten aan bij de koetswerklak van de BMW 3.0 CSL, waarvan het modelopschrift zowel op de deurdrempels als op de zeteloppervlakken in reliëf is aangebracht. De witte versnellingspookknop symboliseert de klassieke vorm van interactie tussen bestuurder en wagen tijdens het schakelen. De rode start/stop-knop en de eveneens rode M knoppen op het stuur zijn beschikbaar om de motor te activeren en om rechtstreeks toegang te krijgen tot de algemene instellingen van de wagen. De matte decoratieve lijsten in Carbon Fibre krijgen een volgnummer voor elk van de 50 beschikbare exemplaren. Deze markering, gedocumenteerd in het interieur van #01/50 tot #50/50, komt in elk geval overeen met de definitieve cijfers van het ophangingsnummer, wat een duidelijk zichtbare en authentieke verwijzing naar de individuele voertuigidentiteit vertegenwoordigt.

Munich. May 24, 2022 marks the 50^th anniversary of the foundation of BMW M GmbH. Almost a quarter of a year earlier, the BMW Group subsidiary is already demonstrating a sense of tradition and anniversary spirit on its current products. Customers who opt for a BMW M automobile or a BMW model equipped with an M Sport package with a production date from March 2022 can have their vehicle’s front, rear and wheel hubs decorated with emblems inspired by the classic "BMW Motorsport" logo. As an alternative to the conventional BMW emblem, it signals passion for racing and for the roots of the BMW M brand. This unique offer in the history of BMW M will be available for order from the end of January 2022.

In addition to the emblems, 50 iconic and historically significant BMW M paint finishes will be offered for selected models in the anniversary year 2022. Style-defining colors such as Dakar Yellow, Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macao Blue, Imola Red or Frozen Marina Bay Blue refer to the various eras of BMW M's 50-year history.

The BMW logo with the shifted semicircles in blue, violet and red was first used in 1973 on the racing car of BMW Motorsport GmbH, which had been established a year before. In 1978 and with the debut of the BMW M1 the three color stripes slanted to the right and leaning on the letter M followed. Even beyond the motorsport scene it became a trademark with particularly high recognition value and identification power. The legendary BMW M1 was the only BMW M high-performance production vehicle to bear the historic motorsport emblem in addition to the logo with the three color stripes. In both logos, the blue stands for BMW, while the red symbolizes racing and the violet expresses the connection between the two. In the meantime, the violet has given way to a dark blue, and BMW Motorsport GmbH has been operating under the name BMW M GmbH since 1993. Nothing has changed the high symbolic power of the brand and logo. In its 50^th year of existence, the company is more successful than ever as the world market leader in the performance and high-performance automotive segment.

In the anniversary year, the first electrified high-performance model in the history of BMW M GmbH will be launched.

BMW M GmbH will not only celebrate its anniversary with attractive new products, but also with numerous events. Anniversary performances are planned in May 2022 at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como in Northern Italy, followed by the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Great Britain and the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California. The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is also a welcome occasion for BMW M GmbH to review its own successful history together with fans and to thrill them for the future of BMW M GmbH.

Munich. BMW will also be injecting many of the models not affected by its ongoing model offensive with added variety and appeal during the summer of 2019. Following the successful launch of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, its choice of power units has now been expanded. New engines are also fitted in the BMW 8 Series Coupe, BMW 8 Series Convertible and BMW 5 Series Sedan. Elsewhere, the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will also be available with a six-speed manual gearbox from July 2019.

The portfolio of plug-in hybrid models is also set to grow in summer 2019, thanks to additions such as the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 49 – 46 g/km) with intelligent all-wheel drive. All plug-in hybrid models will now come with new battery cell technology to boost their electric range and will also feature acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. The BMW X2 will come with LED headlights and LED foglamps as standard from July 2019. Last but not least, new optional extras, exterior paint finishes, leather variants and interior trim strips will open up further scope for customisation in many model ranges.

BMW 3 Series Sedan: additional power units, new body colours and options.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan will serve up its distinctive brand of driving pleasure in a number of new formats from July 2019, when an ultra-sporty representative with a straight-six petrol engine and BMW xDrive, another three all-wheel-drive variants and a plug-in hybrid model are added to the line-up. As a result, customers will now have a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid drive system. Five of the power units will combine with all-wheel drive, either as standard or optionally.

Spearheading the model range is the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 l/100 km [37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 172 g/km), which is powered by a new 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. An eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive, an M Sport differential and bespoke chassis technology combine to keep the engine’s exceptional power planted firmly on the road and deliver a supremely assured and exhilarating drive. The likewise standard sports exhaust system produces a soundtrack to match. The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.

From July 2019, intelligent all-wheel drive will be available in combination with another three engines. The trio of models benefiting from the superior traction, directional stability and agility this brings will be the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.9 l/100 km [44.84 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 143 – 134 g/km), BMW 330i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.2 l/100 km [43.5 – 45.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 147 – 141 g/km) and BMW 330d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.4 – 5.1 l/100 km [52.3 – 55.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 140 – 134 g/km).

The new BMW 330e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 43 – 37 g/km) delivers a particularly appealing blend of driving pleasure and efficiency. The plug-in hybrid model’s four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive unit join forces to generate system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp when the newly developed XtraBoost mode is engaged. This enables the BMW 330e Sedan to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 6.0 seconds. At the same time, it is capable of a maximum electric range from 59 to 66 kilometres (37 – 41 miles) courtesy of state-of-the-art battery technology.

M Sport suspension will also be available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan (with the exception of the M Sport model) from July 2019, as will Adaptive M suspension. Both the optional suspension systems combine with Variable Sport Steering.

The new BMW Individual paint finishes Citrine Black metallic, Oxide Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Grey metallic and Brilliant White metallic create extra scope for customisation. Customers will also have the option of a BMW Individual leather steering wheel and three different BMW Individual interior trim strip designs from July 2019. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual Merino full leather trim – which wraps the upper section of the instrument panel and the door shoulders in black fulled leather, too – will also be added to the options list. The two leather trim variants are each available in a choice of five colours. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino also features as part of the first BMW Individual Composition for the sports sedan. Other items in the Composition include 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual paint finish, sports seats, the BMW Individual leather steering wheel and an anthracite BMW Individual headliner. The M Sport Individual model is another new option combining the M Sport model’s equipment features with ultra-stylish details, such as 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual exterior paint finish, BMW Individual interior trim strips, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and the BMW Individual leather steering wheel.

BMW 5 Series: new V8 engine, plug-in hybrid model now also with all-wheel drive, attractive optional extras and packages.

A generation change for the V8 engine and another plug-in hybrid model make the range of drive systems available for the BMW 5 Series even more appealing. From July 2019 the BMW M550i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.0 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.25 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 227 – 225 g/km) will be fitted with the latest update of the eight-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. The new V8 has an optimised crankcase and larger turbochargers positioned in the “V” between the cylinder banks, and develops maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp plus peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The eight-cylinder teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive and model-specific chassis technology to generate standout dynamics.

From July 2019 the latest-generation high-voltage battery will give the BMW 530e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.8 – 1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 41 – 36 g/km) a longer all-electric operating range. The plug-in hybrid model will now also be available with intelligent all-wheel drive. The link-up of four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive system endow the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan with system output of 185 kW/252 hp.

A new BMW Individual Composition will be available for all BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring model variants from July 2019. The precisely coordinated design and equipment features for the exterior and interior include a BMW Individual paint finish and 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium satinated, comfort seats with active seat ventilation, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino, a BMW Individual leather steering wheel, an Anthracite-coloured BMW Individual headliner, ambient lighting, a BMW Individual instrument panel in black leather and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW 8 Series: new six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, optional M Sport seats, additional paint finishes and leather trim variants.

Another engine option and four new model variants inject extra variety into the line-up of power units for the new BMW 8 Series luxury sports car. From July 2019 the BMW 8 Series Coupe and BMW 8 Series Convertible will also be offered with a new six-cylinder in-line-petrol engine developing 250 kW/340 hp. It teams up with rear-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.3 – 7.2 l/100 km [38.7 –39.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 167 – 164 g/km) and new BMW 840i Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 – 7.4 l/100 km [37.7 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 170 – 168 g/km), and with intelligent all-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i xDrive Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.7 – 7.5 l/100 km [36.7 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 174 – 172 g/km) and new BMW 840i xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.8 – 7.7 l/100 km [36.2 - 36.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 178 – 175 g/km).

The engine line-up for the BMW 8 Series also includes a V8 option and a six-cylinder in-line diesel unit. All model variants stand out with their captivating performance attributes, which can be enjoyed in even greater richness and depth in the M Sport seats now added to the options list. As well as attention-grabbing bucket-seat contours and safety belts with accent strips in BMW M GmbH colours, the M Sport seats also feature 3D quilting, perforated central sections and bespoke stitching. Added to which, BMW 8 Series customers will also be able to specify BMW Individual full-leather appointments in eight colour variants from July 2019, plus BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips in Black Ash Silver Effect high-gloss and Carbon Fibre.

Ultra-classy exterior paint finishes have been added to the spectrum of options available. For example, customers can now also order their BMW 8 Series Coupe or BMW 8 Series Convertible in the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. The BMW 8 Series Convertible can also be ordered with the BMW Individual finishes Frozen Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Dark Brown metallic, Frozen Arctic Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Silver, Frozen Cashmere Silver, Pure Metal Silver, Brilliant White metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic, Aventurine Red metallic and Almandine Brown metallic.

BMW X2: LED headlights now standard, additional light-alloy wheels, optional M Sport braking system.

The BMW X2 will come as standard from July 2019 with LED headlights with extended features. Their adaptive light distribution ensures optimum road illumination in urban areas, when turning off a road and through corners. LED front foglamps will also be part of standard specification for the compact Sports Activity Coupe. Options will include five new light-alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch formats and two new upholstery variants.

The M Sport braking system fitted as standard on the BMW X2 M35i (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.9 l/100 km [39.8 – 40.9 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 161 – 158 g/km) will now be available as an option for all other variants of the BMW X2. The Navigation option will now include an 8.8 inch Control Display with touchscreen functionality in place of the previous 6.5-inch version. And if the Navigation Plus option is specified, the display will have a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches.

BMW X3 and BMW X4: M Sport seats, new M Sport Individual equipment line.

New optional extras will be added to the range for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in summer 2019 to give the duo yet more appeal. The Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe will be available with the option of M Sport seats with distinct bucket-seat styling and special design features for the M Sport model, BMW X3 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.1 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.0 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 207 – 206 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.4 l/100 km [43.5 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 172 – 169 g/km), BMW X4 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.0 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.4 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 206 – 205 g/km) and BMW X4 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km [42.8 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 173 – 170 g/km), as well as with additional interior trim strip variants.

The new M Sport Individual model available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 from August 2019 brings together a number of high-quality touches that add to their dynamic prowess, while also giving them an even more stylish and exclusive aura. The equipment features of the M Sport model are combined with highlights such as a BMW Individual paint finish, 21-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW X5 and BMW X7: new power units, plus more exterior paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and leather trim variants.

The choice of power units for the new BMW X5 will be expanded with the addition of a new entry-level engine in the form of a four-cylinder diesel available for the Sports Activity Vehicle from August 2019. The two-litre engine in the new BMW X5 xDrive25d (fuel consumption combined: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km [45.6 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 162 – 150 g/km) develops maximum output of 170 kW/231 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) with the help of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising multi-stage turbocharging and common-rail direct injection. The efficient diesel engine teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The engine’s emission control system includes an SCR catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions, helping the new BMW X5 xDrive25d to satisfy the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions norm.

The summer of 2019 will also see the launch of another exceptionally efficient version of the Sports Activity Vehicle in the form of the BMW X5 xDrive45e (petrol consumption combined: 2.0 – 1.7 l/100 km [141.2 – 166.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 23.5 – 20.3 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 39 g/km). This plug-in hybrid model is powered by a combination of a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and an electric motor, which together generate system output of 290 kW/394 hp. The second-generation BMW X5 with electrified powertrain accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system is on hand to deliver sporty driving pleasure on the road and supremely assured performance off it by distributing the drive power from both engine and motor to all four wheels. The latest battery cell technology on board the new X5 xDrive45e helps it to cover distances of up to 80 kilometres (50 miles) on electric power alone.

Customers will also enjoy an even wider choice of optional extras. The body colour Manhattan metallic, 22-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design, the BMW Individual Alcantara headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features will all be added to the BMW X5 options list from August 2019.

New options are being made available for the new BMW X7, too. From August 2019, it will be possible to upgrade the cabin of the luxury segment’s first ever Sports Activity Vehicle with BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in three different colours and a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White Alcantara. The palette of colours for the exterior will now expand to include the Manhattan metallic shade and BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and Ametrine metallic. And the BMW X7 can likewise now be specified with BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features.

BMW Z4: entry-level engine now also available with manual gearbox.

The 145 kW/197 hp four-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will be partnered by a six-speed manual gearbox as standard from July 2019. The entry-level version of the open-top sports car will also be optionally available with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

Plug-in hybrid models with new battery cell technology and acoustic protection for pedestrians.

From summer 2019, the new BMW 330e Sedan, new BMW 530e Sedan, new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan and new BMW X5 xDrive45e will be joined in the line-up of plug-in hybrid models boasting the very latest battery cell technology by the new BMW 225xe Active Tourer (petrol consumption combined: 2.1 – 1.9 l/100 km [134.5 – 148.7 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.2 – 13.5 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 42 g/km) and the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan models with electrified powertrains. The newly developed high-voltage batteries further increase efficiency at the same time as boosting the electric range.

From summer 2019, all plug-in hybrid models will be equipped with acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. When driving on electric power, an unmistakable sound specially created for electrified BMW models is generated using a system of speakers. The sound produced at low speeds has been designed to announce the car’s presence acoustically without affecting acoustic comfort for its occupants.

New optional extra: BMW Drive Recorder - for the Belgian market only.

The BMW Drive Recorder is another new addition to the options list. It can be ordered in conjunction with Parking Assistant Plus and is available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, new BMW X5 and new BMW X7. The BMW Drive Recorder uses the cameras of the various driver assistance systems to record video footage from different points around the vehicle, before saving the recordings so they can be either watched later on the Control Display when the car is stationary or exported via the USB port.

Drivers can therefore shoot videos while driving through spectacular scenery, for example, or performing impressive manoeuvres on the race track, and then send them to their mobile device and share them. Recordings can be up to 40 seconds in length, comprising the 20 seconds of video saved immediately prior to the Drive Recorder being activated and the next 20 seconds. The Drive Recorder can be started at any time from the iDrive menu. Another benefit of the system is that, in the event of a collision, the 20 seconds before the accident and the 20 seconds following it are automatically recorded and saved, so they can be referred back to in any subsequent reconstruction of the incident.

Like its predecessors and indeed the entire BMW X model family, the fourth generation of the BMW X5 (combined fuel consumption 11.6-6.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂emissions: 264–158 g/km; provisional figures*) combines impressive off-road performance with outstanding driving dynamics quality on the road. With an extensive range of M Performance Parts for the new premium SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle), BMW now in particular addresses those customers who wish to selectively refine the vehicle's sporty character and give this aspect further emphasise the character. The M Performance Parts available through the Original BMW Accessories programme will be available right on time for the worldwide market launch of the BMW X5 in March 2019.

Development of the full range of M Performance Parts has always drawn on the extensive motor racing expertise of BMW M GmbH. All components are perfectly matched – both with each other and with the specific properties of each model. In this way, they not only give the vehicle concerned a more striking, dynamic appearance but also serve a functional purpose. The features have a positive impact on the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties, for instance, or contribute additionally to the intelligent lightweight concept. 

The numerous exterior components in carbon fibre make for a more pronounced appearance. 
The M Performance exterior components in carbon fibre are especially effective in creating a particularly striking look in the BMW X5 that is clearly inspired by motor racing. They are all characterised by the honeycomb structure that is so typical of carbon fibre reinforced plastic. Finished by hand and sealed with a clear finish, the components are given a final high-gloss polish for an impressive depth effect. For example, the air intake trim element for the standard bumper and the front winglets not only visually enhance the front section, they also highlight the breadth of the SAV model. At the rear, the same applies to the rear winglets and the rear diffuser. The range of M exterior components in carbon fibre is rounded off with exterior mirror caps.

Finally, M Performance side sill foils in black matt are available for further enhancement of the vehicle’s sporty external look. They run from the front to the rear wheel arch along the entire lower sill and are branded with the M Performance inscription. 

All-terrain wheels available from BMW as M Performance Parts for the first time.

For customers who prefer to highlight and make use of the off-road capabilities of their BMW X5, the 20'' M light alloy wheel Star Spoke 748 M with all-terrain tyres is now available for the fourth generation of the BMW X5. The colour BMW M logo is especially eye-catching due to the fact that the rim is finished in sporty matt black. The specific rim design combined with the striking tread design of the all-terrain tyre reflects both robustness and stability. This new wheel/tyre combination also offers good rid comfort and is approved for use in winter.

Optional 22-inch tyres are also available for customers, that include a set of wheels from the M Performance Parts range. The 22" M Performance light alloy wheel Start Spoke 749 M with rolled rim well (flow forming) is about one kilogram lighter than a comparable wheel of the same size due to the special manufacturing technique used. All in all, the unsprung masses are reduced by approx. four kilograms as a result, which impacts positively on driving dynamics and turn-in response. 

Weight-optimised design also characterises the M Performance sports brake: the 4-piston fixed calipers on the front axle are made of aluminium, for example. Meanwhile the inner-vented and perforated M Performance brake discs – which are larger than in the serial brakes (19 inches) – ensure improved thermal resilience and therefore an increased braking effect even in extreme conditions. The brake calipers finished in red visually highlight the M Performance sports brake – and especially striking feature in conjunction with wheels that have an open rim design such as the M Performance light alloy wheel Star Spoke 749 M.

Carbon fibre look and motor racing functionality on the inside, too.
A wide selection of M Performance components derived from and inspired by motor racing is also available for the interior of the new BMW X5, once again providing both visual and functional enhancement. The M Performance steering wheel ensures the driver has secure control over the dynamic SAV at all times, for example. This is due to the extremely high-grip Alcantara handling area with large thumbrests and special underlining for excellent stability and a direct steering feel. In addition to standard details such as the red centre marking at the 12 o’clock position and the silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitch, the M Performance steering wheel is also available with M Performance steering wheel trim in carbon fibre with M Performance inscription and Alcantara insert. To match this, the shift paddles can also be selected in an M Performance finish featuring carbon fabric instead of the standard chrome surface.

It is also possible to give the driver’s workplace a motor racing look and feel in areas that are outside the direct field of vision in the new BMW X5. Contributing factors here are the M Performance floor mats with M Performance inscription, a pennant in the typical M colours and a surround in leather look including decorative seam in contrasting colours, as well as pedal pads and footrest in stainless steel. The asymmetrical profiles of the latter underscore the striking motor racing look.

Drive Analyser for comprehensive driving style analysis.
The M Performance Drive Analyser is available to those wanting to achieve motor racing optimisation not just in the BMW X5 itself but also in terms of their own driving style. It consists of an OBD stick, which is plugged into the on-board diagnosis socket, and a smartphone app. The Drive Analyser is derived directly from motor racing: it provides the driver with all the main driving dynamics data, offering extensive and professional logging and analysis options. It also enables trip recording on a smartphone video camera, driving data logging and route tracking based on GPS position data.

A love of motor racing in general and M Performance products in particular can also be expressed by means of features that are not directly connected with the driving experience in the new BMW X5 itself. The M Performance slide set for the BMW LED door projectors enables the BMW M logo or other motifs relating to M Performance to be projected onto the asphalt when getting in and out of the car, for example. The M Performance key wallet made of high-quality Alcantara with carbon fibre insert can by firmly attached to the vehicle key by means of a hexagon socket screw in M light blue, thereby protecting it from scratches and damage. The same combination of looks and function is provided by the M Performance tyre bags made of high-quality and highly resilient plastic: these protect the wheels from soiling during transport and storage.

The new BMW M Performance Parts Concept based on the BMW M2 (combined fuel consumption: 8.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 199 g/km)* provides an even more marked shift in athletic flair towards motor racing style by means of a consistent weight reduction of more than 60 kilograms combined with optimised aerodynamics. The BMW M Performance Parts Concept is aptly presented in the exterior paint finish Frozen Black with M Performance wrapping in gold for accentuations and inscriptions. In the interior, Alcantara and carbon fibre further emphasise the sense of exclusivity, along with additional gold accentuations. BMW M GmbH was closely involved in creating this more emphatic design, contributing its racing expertise to the development of all M Performance Parts. The BMW M Performance Parts Concept sees its world premiere on 12 July: it will be lining up for the start of the hill race at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood (UK).

Carbon fibre parts reduce vehicle weight.
In addition to M Performance Parts that are already available, the BMW M Performance Parts Concept offers exclusive concept features. The result is a lower vehicle weight and therefore further optimised driving dynamics – and this applies on the race track, too. The overall effect is achieved by a range of individual measures – the use of carbon fibre has a particularly important role to play. This high-tech material is extremely stable but much lighter than standard components. With its unique appeal, it also ensures an exceptional appearance.

The striking M Performance Carbon front radiator grille (expected to be available for the BMW M2 Competition from 7/2018) – featuring an accentuating gold line in the Concept – perfectly matches the M Performance Carbon bonnet (expected to be available from 7/2018), which itself saves eight kilograms in weight as compared to the standard component. The M Performance carbon fibre front side panels (expected to be available from 11/2018) reduce the vehicle's weight by three kilograms, as well as optimising aerodynamics. A high-quality, individual look is also to be found in the M Performance carbon fibre front winglets and the carbon fibre side sill winglets (both available right away): these bear an exclusive gold accentuation in the Concept. The M Performance carbon fibre roof in clear carbon-fibre finish is especially impressive (expected to be available from 3/2019): it reduces the car's weight by another six kilograms and shifts the centre of gravity further towards the road. The complete wheel set with 19-inch M Performance forged wheel Y-spoke 763M in Frozen Gold (expected to be available from 7/2018) with semi-slicks not only provides a visual highlight, it is also six kilograms lighter than the standard wheels. This reduces unsprung masses as well as having the relevant positive effect in terms of driving dynamics and steering response.

M Performance aerodynamic components in carbon fibre.
An eye-catching rear is provided by the M Performance carbon fibre tailgate (expected to be available from 11/2018): it weighs five kilograms less than the standard part. The M Performance carbon fibre rear diffuser (available) reduces the car's weight by 0.5 kilograms and also optimises aerodynamics; in the Concept it bears a gold accentuation.

Carbon fibre, Alcantara and golden contrast seams define the interior.
Racing optimisation is also clearly to be seen in the interior: carbon fibre and Alcantara add especially refined sporty highlights inside the BMW M Performance Parts Concept. The M Performance carbon fibre sport seats with golden contrast seam ensure an excellent hold even when driving in highly dynamic style. The seats are covered with Alcantara and include a folding function for convenient access to the rear; they weigh nine kilograms less than the standard sports seats. Alcantara is also a defining feature of the M Performance lightweight rear seats, which reduce the weight of the vehicle by another 13 kilograms. In addition to a lasered M logo they bear a golden contrast seam – like the sports seats for driver and front passenger – and this is to be found in the same colour on the door and side trim in Alcantara and leather. The M Performance trim finishers also combine the two refined materials carbon fibre and Alcantara.

Meanwhile, unmistakable motor racing feeling is provided in the cockpit by the M Performance steering wheel Pro (available), also bearing a golden contrast seam. The upper and lower sections are covered in leather. In the handling section, Alcantara ensures an excellent hold combined with an exceptionally pleasant grip feel. The combination of carbon fibre and Alcantara is likewise to be found in the M Performance carbon fibre handbrake with Alcantara gaiter (available), which also features a golden contrast seam in the BMW M Performance Parts Concept – as do the velour floor mats.

M Performance suspension with adjustable compression and rebound stage.
For perfect road holding – even when driven in motor racing style – the BMW M Performance Parts Concept features the M Performance suspension, which is already available as a retrofit set for serial production vehicles. This coilover suspension enables a lowering of up to 20 millimetres; the damping technology is independently adjustable to 12 different compression stages and 16 different rebound stages. These properties give the M Performance suspension a very neutral driving response with much reduced rolling movement. To match the exterior body finish, the springs of the M Performance suspension in the Concept are finished in black, as are the calipers of the 18-inch brakes. An additional weight reduction of 14 kilograms is achieved by the use of a lighter BMW battery.

Development of M Performance Parts always draws on the vast racing expertise of BMW M GmbH. All components are perfectly matched – both with each other and with the specific properties of each model. In addition to accentuating interior and exterior design, many of the M Performance Parts also meet functional criteria and enhance lightweight construction, for example.

Refined looks based on details inspired by motor racing.
M Performance lettering is one particularly effective way of creating a visual highlight. Designed to ensure an ideal match with the model in question, the side lettering in Frozen Black underscores the sporty character of the vehicle, in particular emphasising the dynamic proportions of the body. In addition to the side lettering, the appearance of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 can be further refined with the front lettering in high-gloss black – matching the other front attachment parts for these two models, which also feature a high-gloss finish. M Performance front radiator grilles in high-gloss black are available for the BMW X2. These have the same geometry as the standard grilles but are much more visually striking, thereby underscoring the vehicle's sporty flair and dynamic performance.

The M Performance exterior mirror caps in carbon fibre are another eye-catcher available for all three series. They are crafted elaborately by hand from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). With several coating layers and finished with a high-gloss polish, the carbon fibre caps have a depth effect which gives them a compelling appearance.

Sporty, elegant refinement on the inside.
The interior of the BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 can also be enhanced for additional sporty flair by means of select details, while at the same time increasing feel-good comfort on board. The M Performance floor mats are a potential contributing factor here. They are made of velour velvet with a leather-look surround and contrasting decorative seams. Their soft material makes them especially gentle on shoe heels. The front mats for driver and passenger bear the M Performance branding.

The M Performance steering wheel ensures the driver of a BMW X2, BMW X3 or BMW X4 retains a perfect grip on everything. It has distinct, specially lined grip areas which are covered with Alcantara. This microfibre fabric similar to suede is exceptionally pleasant to the touch in all temperatures and provides an optimum hold. The upper and lower part of the steering wheel are also covered in high-quality leather, as is the accompanying steering wheel trim panel. A red motorsports marking in the 12 o'clock position emphasises the car's dynamic qualities, as does the silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitch seam. Steering wheel trim panels are also optionally available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in carbon fibre/leather, with central clasp in either open-pore or high-gloss carbon fibre.

Shift paddles at the steering wheel enable the driver to change gear without taking their hands off the steering wheel, thereby facilitating vehicle control even when driving in dynamic style. For the BMW X3 and BMW X4 with this feature on board, the shift paddles are available in high-gloss carbon fibre. They are covered in an extremely fine carbon mesh, enhanced with a PUR finish and a high-gloss polish, and also feature plus and minus symbols in anodised red.

Extensive range of attractive summer complete wheel sets.
Much of a vehicle's design is perceptibly dominated by its wheel/tyre combination. This is why adaptations in this area have traditionally been among the most popular customisation measures in the automotive sector. This also accounts for the wide range available as part of the BMW M Performance Parts program. The 20-inch summer complete wheel set Styling 717 M is available for the BMW X2, for example. The matt black finish of this light alloy wheel, weight-optimised by means of flowforming technology (rolled rim well) adds a particularly striking touch of sporty flair. The 19-inch M Performance light alloy wheel Double Spoke 698 M in Orbit Grey is available as a summer complete wheel set for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. The exclusive finish and visible wheel bolts are key contributing factors to an impressive appearance here. The 21-inch forged wheel Y Spoke 701 M Bicolor is currently the largest wheel in the program of Original BMW Accessories for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. It also has a rolled rim well, and it weighs some two kilograms less than a similarly designed cast wheel in the same format: this is because of the special manufacturing process used. The Bicolor look with black as the background colour and the burnished finish on the visible side make for a very eye-catching impression, especially due to the high-quality clear finish.

Light installations for a highly effective appearance.
One discreet customisation option that also adds a definite touch of exclusivity at the same time are the BMW LED door projectors. They replace the standard entry light and project a graphic onto the ground when the door is opened. The selection of motifs include the BMW M logo as well as various motifs from an M Performance slide set.

At the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, BMW is now presenting a further highlight: a comprehensive range of exclusive M Performance Parts for the BMW M5. All of these components from the M Performance Parts accessory range were developed using BMW M motorsport know-how and are perfectly harmonised with each other. They not only underscore the high-performance sedan’s sporty and luxurious appearance, but also fulfil functional requirements in terms of aerodynamics, cooling and lightweight construction. Most of these exclusive M Performance Parts for the BMW M5 will be available as retrofit components when the vehicle is launched to the market in March 2018, with further products following in July 2018.

Aerodynamics in perfection. The numerous highlights featured in the accessory range developed especially for the BMW M5 include the package comprising M Performance aerodynamics components. All of these parts are made from lightweight carbon fibre and are elaborately handcrafted.

The following aerodynamics components are available: a newly designed front attachment, side sill attachments, a carbon fibre rear spoiler, a carbon fibre rear spoiler Pro (**) and a rear diffuser. All of these components accentuate the BMW M5’s powerful and sporty appearance, whilst ensuring optimised aerodynamic characteristics plus even sportier handling.

Additional components from the M Performance Parts accessory range have been perfectly adapted to the aerodynamics package and now provide additional accents to the BMW M5. The visible carbon fibre front and air breather trim side grilles (**) bearing the M logo and M Performance carbon fibre mirror caps further enhance the carbon fibre look. The M Performance side sill foils accentuate the side sill attachments, optimally rounding off the distinctively sporty look provided by the aerodynamics package.

Latest technology from motorsport brings the BMW M5’s performance onto the road, whilst guaranteeing superior driving behaviour right up to the car’s limit. Thanks to an even sportier set-up, the new BMW M Performance coilover suspension developed specifically for the BMW M5 ensures excellent road-holding and increases driving dynamics resulting from a more direct connection of the vehicle body with the road. Moreover, red coil springs also add further visual highlights. The spring plates are adjustable.

Carbon-ceramic brakes guarantee superior braking characteristics. The sports disc pads are based on highly durable, motorsports-proven racing brake pads and offer advantages such as a shorter braking distances, better brake response as well as higher thermal resilience. Furthermore, the race-oriented interpretation of brake-force distribution provides for enhanced dynamic brake control.

The new BMW M Performance sports exhaust system, which will be on sale exclusively in the USA and Canada, guarantees an emotional motorsport sound. The end muffler is made from titanium with carbon fibre tailpipe trims additionally available. Optimised exhaust gas routing with reduced counter-pressure enhances the beefy V8 TwinTurbo sound and underscores the sporty driving experience.

The M Performance Drive Analyser, also derived from motorsport, is an innovative tool for recording and evaluating all important vehicle dynamics data. The system offers comprehensive, professional possibilities to record and analyse, which can be evaluated and displayed on the smartphone. The Drive Analyser determines a variety of relevant indicators such as diverse engine data, speed and peak values, engaged gear, use of accelerator pedal and brakes as well as lateral acceleration. When established, the results can be directly shown on the smartphone as videos or graphic representations via the M Performance Drive Analyser App, which is available free of charge to BMW customers. Furthermore, customers also wishing to capture their drive on film, BMW M Performance Parts offers the Trackfix action camera holder, which can be mounted in the threaded bush of the towing lug either at the front or rear end of the vehicle.

Sporty, dynamic appearance down to the finest detail.

M Performance Parts for the BMW M5 M bring that true racetrack feeling to everyday life – also in terms of visual presence. These include motorsport stripes in typical M colours, which highlight the car’s sporty design even further and lend it its very own individual character. The elaborately handcrafted M Performance carbon fibre engine cover extension kit is a real eye-catcher and also makes the car’s racing genes visible where its performance has its origins – in the engine compartment. 

This racing look has also been applied to the vehicle’s interior components.

The M Performance steering wheel (**) conveys genuine motorsport feeling thanks to its distinctive geometry and extremely pronounced Alcantara grip area and a carbon fibre steering wheel cover. This is further enhanced by newly designed carbon fibre shift paddles (**) and a carbon fibre gear shift lever cover (**). Finest details from the suspension to the interior reveal that the BMW M5 and M Performance Parts have their roots in motor racing, and this also includes the new key wallet for the BMW M5. It comprises a material mix of high-quality Alcantara and carbon fibre and offers a perfect combination of motorsport design and functionality. The M Performance LED logo projector, which completes the accessory range available for the BMW M5, is also a genuine statement.

M Performance Parts in use for the MotoGP ^TM.

A unique model designed for racetrack use will shortly be celebrating its premiere – the BMW M5 MotoGP ^TM Safety Car. Since 1999, BMW M has been the “official car of the MotoGP” and affiliate partner of MotoGP organizers Dorna Sports, deploying its fleet of safety cars to guarantee safety in the world’s fastest motorcycle racing series. Like the predecessor model, the BMW M5 MotoGP Safety Car is equipped with a multitude of BMW M Performance Parts so that it is able to fully meet the special demands on a lead vehicle in professional motorsport. These also include M Performance aerodynamics components as well as the BMW M Performance sports exhaust system made from titanium. The BMW M5 MotoGP Safety Car will make its first racetrack appearance at the 2017 season final in Valencia, Spain, in November. During the 2018 season, it will be the spearhead of the BMW M MotoGP Safety Car fleet.

The BMW M5: the new high-performance sedan.

Thanks to numerous innovative features, the new BMW M5 offers perfect handling up to the vehicle’s dynamics limits – both on the road and on the racetrack. These include the newly designed M-specific four-wheel drive system M xDrive being employed in the BMW M5 for the first time. It guarantees optimised driving dynamics through precise handling and perfect traction. The heart of the BMW M5, the 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, has been extensively revised by our M engineers. It delivers 441 kW/600 hp and a maximum torque of 750 Nm, offering a significant increase in performance vs. the predecessor models. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h with the new 8-speed Steptronic transmission featuring Drivelogic is just 3.4 seconds. The suspension features M-specific kinematic and elastokinematic elements to help optimise driving dynamics. Weight is also a crucial factor in terms of performance: This has been further reduced, inter alia, by a roof made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic.

“Need for Speed ^TM Payback”: Individualisation and high-tech carbon fibre also in the interactive video game.

BMW took innovative and spectacular paths at the presentation of the BMW M5: Thanks to the partnership with Electronic Arts, the world premiere took place for the first time in a video game – in “Need for Speed ^TM Payback”. Hence, BMW and Electronic Arts presented the new BMW M5 for the first time at the Gamescom in Cologne, Europe’s largest fair for interactive games and entertainment. In “Need for Speed ^TM Payback” (release: 10 November 2017), gamers are, as in reality, able to refine their virtual BMW M5 with M Performance Parts that have been developed specifically for this car. During missions and races gamers can generate virtual money with which they are then able to buy and fit their car with original BMW accessories from the range of M Performance Parts for the BMW M5. These original parts, including components made from high-tech carbon fibre material are, like those fitted to a real BMW M5, perfectly adapted to the vehicle and to each other. So they ensure a noticeable increase in performance and individuality in the virtual world as well.

Talloze bestuurders hebben een speciale band met hun BMW. Zo ook de Belgische racepiloot Martial Chouvel die tijdens zijn carrière talloze overwinningen haalde in een BMW M3 tijdens de meest legendarische wedstrijden, waaronder de 24 Uur van Spa-Francorchamps. Vandaag is hij rotsvast overtuigd van zijn elektrische BMW i3. Tussen 1995 en 2010 nam Martial Chouvel deel aan meer dan 200 races op Belgische circuits en die van onze buurlanden. Het leverde hem de titel van Europees kampioen en Vicekampioen van België op, alsook tal van trofeeën.

Gouden kans van BMW.

Het was zijn streven naar uitmuntendheid en naar dat tiende van een seconde dat het team BMW Juma overtuigde om hem achter het stuur te zetten van een BMW M3 tijdens de 24 Uur van Spa-Francorchamps in 1997. Een testrit die hij met glans doorstond, want het team eindigde dat jaar als eerste en tweede in zijn klasse.

M3 wordt i3.

Vandaag volgt Martial Chouvel nog altijd de evolutie in de autowereld op de voet, al heeft hij zijn raceoverall ondertussen ingeruild voor een maatpak om zijn functie als bedrijfsleider te vervullen. Ook de M3 is ondertussen een i3 geworden, maar het rijplezier is er niet minder om: “Ik vind het fantastisch om de technologie aan boord - en wat ze me elke dag opnieuw te bieden heeft - te analyseren. We zijn dan wel niet meer op het circuit, maar de zoektocht naar uitmuntendheid is nog lang niet voorbij. Wat de ingenieurs van BMW in 10 jaar tijd bereikt hebben, is gewoonweg ongelooflijk.”

Mmm... lekker.

BMW trakteerde Martial op een namiddag vol nostalgie achter het stuur van zijn M3. Een uitnodiging waar de man gretig op inging. Het duurde dan ook niet lang voor hij de rijsensaties herontdekte die eigenlijk nooit echt vergeten waren: “Deze wagen was gewoon geweldig. Ik herinner me alles nog alsof het gisteren was.”

De hoogtechnologische, performante motor biedt alle dynamische eigenschappen die men van een BMW M Performance-wagen mag verwachten. Tegelijkertijd bewijst de nieuwe V8-motor ook de buitengewone efficiëntie van de M Performance TwinPower Turbo-technologie. De nieuwe BMW M550i xDrive voldoet nu al aan de strenge EU6c-emissienorm.

Sportversnellingsbak Steptronic en intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive.

Om het vermogen van de krachtigste BMW 5 Reeks Berline onder controle te houden, is er de standaard 8-traps sportversnellingsbak Steptronic, die een belangrijke rol speelt bij de schitterende dynamiek van de BMW M550i xDrive. De M Performance-configuratie van de schakelmodi is afgestemd op de eigenschappen van de V8-motor. Zo zorgen de opvallend sportieve schakelverhoudingen en snellere terugschakelingen over het hele toerenbereik voor een rijkere, opwindende rijbeleving. Om dit alles nog sportiever te laten verlopen kan de 8-traps sportversnellingsbak Steptronic ook met de schakelpeddels op het stuur worden bediend. De transmissie zelf helpt het brandstofverbruik en de uitstoot te verlagen met zijn compacte design, lage gewicht en geoptimaliseerde efficiëntie.

De vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive van de BMW M550i xDrive verdeelt het vermogen over de vier wielen, afhankelijk van de situatie – intelligent en op de achterwielen gericht. BMW xDrive is dan ook van cruciaal belang voor twee intrinsieke elementen van de karakteristieke M Performance-rijbeleving in alle omstandigheden: ongeëvenaarde rijprestaties en een uiterst precies rijgedrag. En wanneer de adaptieve M sportophanging (met 10 millimeter verlaagd) daaraan wordt toegevoegd, samen met de standaard BMW M lichtmetalen velgen van 19" in mat Cerium Grey metallic of de optionele*** BMW lichtmetalen velgen van 20" (een exclusief ontwerp, eveneens in mat Cerium Grey metallic), is het resultaat een ongeziene stabiliteit en optimale tractie, in alle omstandigheden.

Daarnaast benadrukt de stuurbekrachtiging met specifieke M respons in de standen SPORT en SPORT+ de strakke wegligging en precieze rijeigenschappen van het meest sportieve model van de BMW 5 Reeks van de nieuwe generatie. De stuurcommando’s worden met uiterste precisie uitgevoerd en de bestuurder krijgt het soort feedback dat immens rijplezier garandeert op bochtige wegen. Sportieve look met exclusieve M Performance-uitrusting.

Het koetswerk van de nieuwe BMW M550i xDrive maakt geen geheim van zijn dynamische prestaties. Bovendien benadrukt het zijn status als vlaggenschip van het nieuwe BMW 5 Reeks-gamma. Het M aerodynamicapakket, dat een M achterspoiler met Gurney-flap op het kofferdeksel omvat, accentueert de sportieve, dynamische lijnen van de nieuwe BMW 5 Reeks en optimaliseert tegelijkertijd de luchtstroom rond en over de wagen. De buitenspiegelbehuizingen, de nieren van het radiatorrooster, de speciale M Performance-tussenschotten in de luchtinlaat en de twee luchthappers aan de zijkant hebben allemaal een exclusieve afwerking in Cerium Grey metallic, terwijl de in Shadow Line hochglänzend rond de ramen het onweerlegbaar sportieve karakter van deze dynamische businessberline nog meer benadrukken. De M sportuitlaat – met exclusieve sierstukken in zwart chroom links en rechts – produceert de onmiskenbare en opzwepende BMW M soundtrack.

De verlichte deurdrempels met “M550i xDrive”-opschrift verwelkomen de inzittenden, terwijl de M sportzetels in leder Dakota Schwarz met contrasterende blauwe stiksels, de nieuwste versie van het M sportstuur, de speciale decoratieve lijsten en voetmatten met M design, en de aluminium pedalen samen de wagen een exclusieve en sportieve uitstraling geven waarvoor alle BMW M Performance-wagens bekendstaan.

Rijhulpsystemen vergemakkelijken routinetaken.

Net als de andere modellen van de BMW 5 Reeks van de nieuwe generatie biedt de BMW M550i xDrive ook een nog ruimere keuze aan hulpsystemen om de bestuurder desgewenst te helpen. Daarbij horen een ontwijksysteem, waarschuwingssysteem voor dwarsverkeer en actieve Lane Change Warning, dat de stuurinput gebruikt om een dreigende aanrijding te voorkomen. De optionele Active Cruise Control (ACC) en Lane Keeping Assistant zijn nu uitgerust met meer functionaliteiten. Ook is de Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, die snelheidsbeperkingen automatisch doorgeeft aan de cruise control, een volgende stap op de weg naar zelfrijdende wagens.

Een nog nauwere band smeden tussen mens, machine en de buitenwereld.

De nieuwste generatie van de BMW 5 Reeks maakt een nauwe connectiviteit mogelijk tussen de bestuurder, de wagen en de buitenwereld – dankzij BMW Connected. Dit nieuwe systeem verbindt smartphones, smartwatches, computers en tablets met elkaar, maar ook met het navigatiesysteem van de wagen, via de servers van BMW. Dit is dan ook een zeer intelligente technologie, die bewegingspatronen en persoonlijke voorkeuren kan identificeren. Dit maakt er een persoonlijke mobiliteitsmanager van die gebruikers helpt om de steeds complexere uitdagingen van onze dagelijkse mobiliteit te overwinnen. Nog voor u vertrokken bent, houdt BMW Connected al rekening met Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) om uw route te plannen en raadt het aan om vroeger te vertrekken als een omweg moet worden gemaakt wegens verkeersopstoppingen. En hoewel BMW Connected de locatie van de wagen gebruikt om de route op de normale manier te berekenen, houdt het ook rekening met de locatie van de bestuurder zelf. Bovendien bundelt het nieuwe systeem de functies en diensten van de vertrouwde BMW Remote App en BMW Connected App. Verder hebben gebruikers de beschikking over producten zoals ParkNow voor digitale reserveringen en betalingen van parkeerplaatsen, om nog maar te zwijgen van de intelligente On-Street Parking Information, een functie die aangeeft waar de bestuurder het meeste kans heeft om een vrije parkeerplaats te vinden. En als hij met het optionele Remote Parking-systeem is uitgerust, kan de BMW 5 Reeks Berline zelfs op de krapste plaatsen worden geparkeerd van buiten de wagen, met behulp van de autosleutel. Last but not least, eens de wagen geparkeerd is, loodst BMW Connected de gebruikers te voet naar hun eindbestemming.

Sportiviteit en dagelijkse bruikbaarheid in volmaakte harmonie.

De BMW M Performance-modellen zijn een exclusief product van BMW M GmbH. Ze vallen tussen de standaard topmodellen van BMW en de M modellen voor maximale prestaties. “Wij ontwikkelen de BMW M Performance-wagens voor klanten die op zoek zijn naar zeer sportieve rijeigenschappen, zonder in te boeten aan de dagelijkse bruikbaarheid van hun BMW,” aldus Frank van Meel, CEO van BMW M GmbH. “De ervaring en knowhow die BMW M heeft opgedaan in de autosport en de ontwikkeling van performante sportwagens worden ook toegepast bij de ontwikkeling van onze BMW M Performance-wagens. Het verkoopsucces bewijst duidelijk dat we op de goede weg zijn. Een blik op het modellengamma van BMW AG leert dat er van elk model een BMW M Performance-versie is. We zullen ons productaanbod slim uitbouwen en eventuele hiaten in het assortiment strategisch opvullen.”

De nieuwe BMW M550i xDrive zou vanaf maart 2017 deel moeten uitmaken van het modellengamma.

Wereldpremière van BMW’s krachtigste dieselmotor ooit in de nieuwe BMW 750d xDrive en BMW 750Ld xDrive – BMW 7 Reeks ook leverbaar als BMW iPerformance met plug-inhybrideaandrijving – Nieuwe benzinemotoren voor de BMW 1 Reeks en BMW 2 Reeks – BMW M Performance uitvoering van BMW 1 Reeks en BMW 2 Reeks met nieuwe zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor – Karakteristieke (optionele) designdetails voor alle BMW iPerformance modellen.

Met de wereldpremière van de krachtigste dieselmotor in een productiemodel van BMW en de introductie van drie BMW iPerformance modellen wordt het gamma van de BMW 7 Reeks vanaf de zomer van 2016 nog veelzijdiger en fascinerender. Tegelijkertijd worden de BMW 1 Reeks en de BMW 2 Reeks leverbaar met benzinemotoren van de nieuwste generatie. Een voorbeeld hiervan is de nog sterkere, maar ook efficiëntere zescilinder-in-lijn benzinemotor voor de BMW M Performance modellen BMW M140i (leverbaar als drie- en vijfdeurs), de BMW M240i Coupé en de BMW M240i Cabrio.

Net als de plug-inhybride uitvoeringen van de BMW 7 Reeks zijn de drie nieuwe BMW iPerformance modellen optioneel te voorzien van specifieke designdetails aan de buitenzijde. Andere innovaties zijn de beschikbaarheid vanaf komende zomer van het als optie leverbare telefoonsysteem met draadloze oplaadmogelijkheid en WLAN-hotspot voor meer modellen. In combinatie met het tegen meerprijs leverbare navigatiesysteem Professional is het bedieningssysteem iDrive nu voorzien van een nieuwe, grote menudisplay op basis van de nieuwe ‘tegel-lay-out’ in de BMW 1 Reeks, de BMW 2 Reeks Coupé en de BMW 2 Reeks Cabrio, bepaalde versies van de BMW 3 Reeks en BMW 4 Reeks alsmede de BMW X5 en de BMW X6.

BMW 7 Reeks: Nieuwe high-performance dieselmotor en drie BMW iPerformance versies.
Dankzij de nieuwste technische innovaties, die vanaf de zomer van 2016 leverbaar zijn, vormt de BMW 7 Reeks in de topklasse de maatstaf voor dynamiek en efficiency. Een compleet nieuw ontwikkelde zescilinder-in-lijn dieselmotor debuteert in de BMW 750d xDrive en de BMW 750Ld xDrive. De BMW TwinPower Turbo technologie in de drielitermotor omvat vier turbo’s, waarvan de nauwkeurige aansturing voor een vroege afgifte van de trekkracht zorgt, en die trekkracht blijft beschikbaar tot hoge toerentallen. Met een maximumvermogen van 294 kW (400 pk) en een maximumkoppel van 760 Nm is de nieuwe zescilinder de krachtigste dieselmotor ooit in een BMW. Dankzij de sublieme vermogensafgifte en de standaard intelligente vierwielaandrijving accelereert de BMW 750d xDrive van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,6 seconden (BMW 750Ld xDrive: 4,7 seconden). Verder kenmerkt de nieuwe top-of-the-range dieselmotor zich door een buitengewoon laag brandstofverbruik, dat uniek is gezien het hoge prestatieniveau. Het gecombineerde brandstofverbruik van de BMW 750d xDrive en de BMW 750Ld xDrive ligt tussen de 5,7 en 5,9 l/100 km en de CO2-emissies liggen tussen 149 en 154 g/km (volgens EU-testcyclus, afhankelijk van gekozen bandenmaat).

De BMW 7 Reeks iPerformance versies zijn net als de nieuwe dieselvarianten leverbaar vanaf de zomer van 2016. De plug-inhybride aandrijving omvat BMW eDrive technologie van BMW i en wordt leverbaar voor de BMW 740e iPerformance met standaardwielbasis, de BMW 740Le iPerformance met lange wielbasis en de BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance met intelligente vierwielaandrijving. Samen leveren de verbrandingsmotor en de elektromotor in deze versies een systeemvermogen van 240 kW (326 pk), waarbij de intelligente aansturing voor een directe vermogensafgifte en een ongeëvenaarde efficiency zorgt. Ook kan volledig elektrisch een afstand van maximaal 44-48 kilometer worden afgelegd (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 41-45 kilometer). De sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u vergt 5,4 seconden in de BMW 740e iPerformance, 5,5 seconden in de BMW 740Le iPerformance en 5,3 seconden in de BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance. Het gemiddelde gecombineerde brandstofverbruik per 100 kilometer ligt tussen de 2,0 en 2,2 liter (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 2,1-2,5 liter). De CO2-emissie bedraagt afhankelijk van de uitvoering 45-50 g/km (BMW 740e iPerformance), 45-51 g/km (BMW 740Le iPerformance) en 49-56 g/km voor de BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance (volgens EU-testcyclus voor plug-inhybrides, afhankelijk van gekozen bandenmaat).

BMW M Performance-uitvoeringen van de BMW 1 Reeks en BMW 2 Reeks: nieuwe motorengeneratie met meer vermogen en betere efficiency.
Vanaf juli 2016 wordt het bijzonder sportieve karakter van de BMW M Performance uitvoeringen van de BMW 1 Reeks en de BMW 2 Reeks nog verder onderstreept door een bijzonder krachtige zescilinder benzinemotor van de nieuwste generatie. De nieuw ontwikkelde drielitermotor met M Performance Twin Power Turbo techniek heeft een vermogen van 250 kW (340 pk), wat 10 kW (14 pk) meer is dan de vorige motor. Het maximumkoppel bedraagt 500 Nm. Daardoor leveren de BMW M Performance modellen nu prestaties die vergelijkbaar zijn met die van de BMW 1 Reeks M Coupé, die van 2011 tot 2012 in productie was. Ze leggen de sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u tot 0,3 seconden sneller af dan hun voorganger, terwijl het brandstofverbruik en de CO2-emissies volgens de EU-testcyclus maximaal 7% lager zijn. Het toegenomen vermogen en de extra dynamiek komen ook tot uiting in de nieuwe typeaanduidingen voor de BMW M140i driedeurs en de BMW M140i vijfdeurs, de BMW M240i Coupé en de BMW M240i Cabrio. Ze zijn optioneel verkrijgbaar met de intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive.

Met de standaard handgeschakelde zesversnellingsbak sprinten de BMW M140i driedeurs en de BMW M140i vijfdeurs van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,8 seconden en met de als optie leverbare achttraps Steptronic sporttransmissie in 4,6 seconden. Het brandstofverbruik bedraagt volgens de EU-testcyclus 7,8 l/100 km (automaat: 7,1 l/100 km) en de CO2-emissie 179 g/km (163 g/km). De BMW M140i xDrive driedeurs en de BMW M140i xDrive vijfdeurs worden standaard geleverd met een achttraps Steptronic sporttransmissie en ze bereiken de 100 km/u vanaf stilstand in 4,4 seconden. Hun gecombineerde brandstofverbruik is 7,4 l/100 km en hun CO2-emissie is 169 g/km.

De BMW M Performance versies van de BMW 2 Reeks zijn optioneel leverbaar met intelligente vierwielaandrijving BMW xDrive en zijn dan standaard uitgerust met de achttraps Steptronic sporttransmissie. De BMW M240i Coupe sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,8 seconden (automaat: 4,6 seconden) en heeft volgens de EU-testcyclus een gecombineerd verbruik van 7,8 l/100 km (7,1 l/100 km). De CO2-emissie bedraagt 179 g/km (163 g/km). De BMW M240i xDrive Coupé sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,4 seconden en heeft een gemiddeld verbruik van 7,4 l/100 km en een CO2-emissie van 169 g/km.

De BMW M240i Cabrio accelereert van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,9 seconden (automaat: 4,7 seconden). Het gemiddelde verbruik is 8,3 l/100 km (automaat: 7,4 l/100 km) en de CO2-emissie bedraagt 189 g/km (169 g/km). De BMW M240i xDrive Cabrio sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u in 4,6 seconden en heeft een gemiddeld brandstofverbruik van 7,8 l/100 km (EU-testcyclus) en een CO2-emissie van 179 g/km.

BMW 1 Reeks, BMW 2 Reeks Coupé en BMW 2 Reeks Cabrio: nieuwe viercilinder benzinemotor voor acht versies.
Vanaf juli 2016 zijn tal van uitvoeringen van de BMW 1 Reeks en BMW 2 Reeks leverbaar met motoren van de nieuwe generatie. Twee varianten van de BMW 1 Reeks driedeurs, de BMW 1 Reeks vijfdeurs, de BMW 2 Reeks Coupé en de BMW 2 Reeks Cabrio worden aangedreven door nieuwe viercilinder benzinemotoren die een nog betere combinatie van rijplezier en efficiency bieden. De tweelitermotoren zijn voorzien van de nieuwste BMW TwinPower Turbo technologie met een Twin Scroll turbo, directe brandstofinjectie, VALVETRONIC en Double VANOS. Het vermogen wordt aan de achterwielen afgegeven via een standaard handgeschakelde zesversnellingsbak of optioneel via een achttraps Steptronic-transmissie.

De nieuwe motoren zorgen in de BMW 120i driedeurs en de BMW 120i vijfdeurs voor een vermogenstoename van 5 kW (7 pk) naar 135 kW (184 pk). Met de handgeschakelde zesversnellingsbak of de optioneel verkrijgbare achttraps Steptronic transmissie accelereren beide modellen van 0 naar 100 km/u in 7,1 seconden. Het gecombineerde brandstofverbruik ligt op 5,7-6,1 l/100 km (automaat: 5,5-5,9 l/100 km). De CO2 emissie bedraagt 131-140 g/km (126-135 g/km, volgens EU-testcyclus, afhankelijk van gekozen bandenmaat).
Het vermogen van de BMW 125i driedeurs en de BMW 125i vijfdeurs is met 5 kW (7 pk) toegenomen. Met een vermogen van 165 kW (224 pk) en de inmiddels tot de standaarduitrusting behorende achttraps Steptronic transmissie sprinten beide versies van 0 naar 100 km/u in 6,1 seconden. De verbeterde dynamiek gaat gepaard met een lager brandstofverbruik van 5,7-5,9 l/100 km en een CO2 emissie van 130-134 g/km (volgens EU-testcyclus, afhankelijk van gekozen bandenmaat).

De nieuwe versie van de 135 kW (184 pk) sterke viercilindermotor verbetert ook de efficiency van de BMW 220i Coupé en de BMW 220i Cabrio. De BMW 220i Coupé accelereert van 0 naar 100 km/u in 7,1 seconden (automaat: 7,2 seconden) en heeft een gemiddeld verbruik van 5,7-6,1 l/100 km (5,5-5,9 l/100 km) alsmede een CO2-emissie van 131-140 g/km (126-135 g/km). De BMW 220i Cabrio sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u in 7,5 seconden (7,7 seconden) en het gemiddelde brandstofverbruik bedraagt nu 6,1-6,5 l/100 km (5,7-6,1 liter). De CO2-emissie is 139-149 g/km 131-(140 g/km, volgens EU-testcyclus, afhankelijk van gekozen bandenmaat).

In juli 2016 krijgen de sportiefste viercilinderuitvoeringen van de BMW 2 Reeks een vermogensupgrade van 5 kW (7 pk) naar 185 kW (252 pk) ten opzichte van hun voorgangers, de BMW 230i Coupé en BMW 230i Cabrio. Deze uitvoeringen zijn standaard ook voorzien van een handgeschakelde zesversnellingsbak en optioneel van een achttraps Steptronic of een achttraps Steptronic sport transmissie. De sprint van 0 naar 100 km/u kost de BMW 230i Coupe 5,8 seconden (automaat: 5,6 seconden). Het brandstofverbruik is 6,2-6,4 l/100 km (5,7-5,9 l/100 km) bij een CO2-emissie van 142-147 g/km (130-134 g/km). De BMW 230i Cabrio accelereert van 0 naar 100 km/u in 6,1 seconden (automaat: 5,9 seconden) en heeft een gemiddeld verbruik van 6,5-6,8 l/100 km (6,0-6,2 l/100 km). De CO2-emissie bedraagt 149-155 g/km (137-142 g/km, volgens EU-testcyclus, afhankelijk van gekozen bandenmaat).

Kenmerkende designdetails voor de BMW iPerformance-modellen.
Met de introductie van de eerste plug-inhybride modellen heeft BMW de BMW eDrive techniek – bestaande uit elektromotoren, high-performance lithium-ion-accu’s en intelligent energiemanagement – aan het gamma toegevoegd. Behalve de drie plug-inhybride uitvoeringen van de BMW 7 Reeks met 15 procent bijtelling, die vanaf juli 2016 leverbaar zijn, zijn in drie andere segmenten ook versies leverbaar die een verbrandingsmotor combineren met een elektromotor. Deze dragen voortaan de modelaanduidingen BMW 225xe iPerformance Active Tourer, BMW 330e iPerformance Berline en BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance. Dankzij de technologietransfer vanuit BMW i bieden ze een nieuw niveau van dynamiek en een grensverleggende efficiency, wat wordt onderstreept door kenmerkende designdetails aan de buitenzijde.

De BMW iPerformance zijn optioneel te voorzien van specifieke designdetails, zoals een ‘eDrive’ logo op de C-stijlen, een BMW i logo op de zijkanten, blauwe naafdoppen en een BMW-grille met sleuven in de typerende kleur BMW i blue. Vanaf december 2016 zijn deze nieuwe features optioneel leverbaar voor de BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance; voor alle overige BMW iPerformance modellen zijn ze al vanaf juli 2016 optioneel leverbaar. Andere uitrustingsdetails die oorspronkelijk voor de BMW i3 en de BMW i8 zijn ontwikkeld, zijn nu ook standaard of optioneel leverbaar voor alle BMW iPerformance modellen. Dit zijn onder meer hybridespecifieke BMW ConnectedDrive services en het complete BMW i 360° ELECTRIC-pakket.

Nieuw van BMW ConnectedDrive: BMW iDrive met een geoptimaliseerd menudisplay, een telefoonsysteem met draadloze oplaadmogelijkheid en een WLAN-hotspot voor meer modellen.
Vanaf de zomer van 2016 zijn drie nieuwe features beschikbaar op het gebied van BMW ConnectedDrive. Die waren voorheen alleen beschikbaar voor de BMW 7 Reeks, de BMW 6 Reeks en de BMW X3 en de BMW X4. Voortaan zijn ze ook beschikbaar voor de BMW 1 Reeks, de BMW 2 Reeks Coupé en de BMW 2 Reeks Cabrio, de BMW 3 Reeks, de BMW 4 Reeks, de BMW X5 en de BMW X6. Een nieuw, bijzonder duidelijk ingedeeld menu en een hogere resolutie voor de Control Display optimaliseren de bediening van de auto, het infotainmentsysteem, het navigatiesysteem en communicatiefuncties via de iDrive controller. In combinatie met het navigatiesysteem Professional toont de display het hoofdmenu en de bedieningsopties voor de diverse functies niet langer in lijsten, maar in de vorm van naast elkaar geplaatste knopsymbolen. Verder is de spraakherkenningsfunctie van het navigatiesysteem Professional aangevuld met de functie Natural Language, waarmee gesproken instructies niet alleen als vooraf bepaalde tekstmodules kunnen worden gegeven, maar ook met vrijelijk geformuleerd in complete zinnen.

Het optionele telefoonsysteem met draadloze oplaadmogelijkheid biedt meer comfort bij het gebruik van mobiele telefoons in de auto. Inductief oplaadbare smartphones kunnen draadloos worden opgeladen tijdens het rijden door ze op de hiervoor bestemde plek op de tunnelconsole te leggen. Niet alleen wordt de smartphone gekoppeld aan het bedieningssysteem van de auto, het nieuwe systeem zorgt ook voor verbinding met de buitenantenne van de auto. Ook omvat het systeem twee USB-poorten en een WLAN hotspotfunctie, die high-speed internet-connectiviteit biedt voor maximaal acht mobiele apparaten.

Groter aanbod aan lederen bekleding voor de M Sport uitvoeringen van de BMW 1 Reeks, BMW 2 Reeks, BMW 3 Reeks en BMW 4 Reeks; nieuw entertainmentsysteem voor de achterpassagiers leverbaar voor de BMW X5 en de BMW X6.
Dankzij nieuwe personaliseringsmogelijkheden voor het interieur zijn de M Sport modellen vanaf juli 2016 nog aantrekkelijker. Doordat die qua kleurstelling perfect past bij de dynamische M Sport, is de lederen bekleding Dakota in de kleur zwart met blauwe stiksels voortaan leverbaar voor de BMW 1 Reeks, de BMW 2 Reeks Coupé, de BMW 2 Reeks Cabrio en voor alle uitvoeringen van de BMW 3 Reeks en de BMW 4 Reeks. In het geval van de BMW 3 Reeks en de BMW 4 Reeks is voor zowel de M Sport als de uitvoeringen Luxury Line en Sport Line nu de bekleding Dakota Veneto Beige verkrijgbaar in combinatie met de interieurkleur zwart.

De BMW M4 GTS biedt BMW M GmbH een nieuw en exclusief technologisch meesterwerk dat het potentieel van de BMW M4 Coupé op een heel nieuw, indrukwekkend niveau brengt. Het design is krachtig en geïnspireerd op de veeleisende motorsport en ook zijn technologie is hoogst performant. De BMW M4 GTS focust dan ook met uitstek op het race-circuit. Een lap op ’s werelds meest veeleisende circuit, de legendarische Nürburgring-Nordschleife, legt de wagen af in 7.28 minuten, wat een duidelijke statement is van de uitzonderlijke kwaliteiten van deze speciale editie. Tegelijkertijd voelt de scherpste BMW M4 – net als al zijn andere BMW M stalgenoten – zich ook perfect thuis op de openbare weg. BMW M GmbH lanceert de BMW M4 GTS in een speciale, gelimiteerde oplage van 700 units om de 30ste verjaardag van de BMW M3, die voor het eerst geproduceerd werd in 1986. Met deze wagen wil de organisatie eer bewijzen aan de innovatieve flair van de BMW M ingenieurs bij het ontwikkelen van baanbrekende M technologieën voor de aandrijving, chassis en lichtgewicht constructies. The BMW M4 GTS gives BMW M GmbH a new and exclusive technological showpiece which elevates the potential of the BMW M4 Coupe to another impressive new level. With its powerful, motor sport-inspired looks and high-performance technology, the BMW M4 GTS has its sights set squarely on the race track. A lap time of 7.28 minutes around the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the world’s most exacting race circuit, is a clear statement of this special-edition model’s exceptional abilities. At the same time, the sharpest BMW M4 of all – like its BMW M stablemates – can also hold its own on public roads. BMW M GmbH is launching the BMW M4 GTS in a special edition limited to 700 units to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3, which has been in production since 1986. In so doing, it is highlighting the innovative flair of the BMW M engineers in developing trailblazing M technologies on the powertrain, chassis and lightweight construction front. The first high-performance special edition in the M3/M4 model range will also be available for the first time in the important North American market.

“Special-edition models like the BMW M3 GT, BMW M3 CSL, BMW M3 GTS and BMW M3 CRT have a decades-long tradition in our mid-size line-up – and that continues with the BMW M4,” says Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “They sharpen the character of the BMW M brand and embody an emotionally rich and exclusive driving experience. We’ve taken a radical route with the set-up of the BMW M4 GTS to create a sports machine for the race track that delivers top-end dynamics and inspirational performance. It allows us to demonstrate what is possible today with a road-legal car. Owners can drive their BMW M4 GTS to circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, the Nürburgring or Laguna Seca – for clubsport events, for example – and then set lap times there that raise the bar to extremely high levels for road-legal cars.”

Performance boost courtesy of innovative water injection.
At the heart of each and every BMW M model is its engine. The BMW M4 GTS uses the multi-award-winning six-cylinder in-line turbo engine from the BMW M3/M4, but adds innovative water injection technology to give the 3.0-litre unit a substantial power boost. The water injection system raises the engine’s output significantly – to 368 kW/500 hp – and increases torque to 600 Nm (442 lb-ft), yet still keeps fuel economy and CO2 emissions at the level of the BMW M4 Coupe (8.5 litres per 100 km* [33 mpg imp], 199 g/km*). This makes the BMW M4 GTS the most agile, radical and dynamically potent model in the range. It races from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.8 seconds and hits a limited top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph).

Lightweight design extends into the details.
Intelligent lightweight construction allows the BMW M engineers to limit the car’s DIN kerb weight to 1,510 kilograms (ECE kerb weight: 1,585 kg). Its outstanding weight-to-power ratio of 3.0 kg/hp provides the perfect platform for a highly dynamic driving experience. The rigorous weight-saving measures extend through both the interior and exterior of the car. Inside, carbon-fibre bucket seats, a lightweight centre console, the lightweight construction of the rear seat panelling and boot area partition, and special lightweight door and side panel trim, including door pull loops in place of solid door handles, are clearly visible indications of the designers’ commitment to weight-saving. The rigorous application of lightweight design can also be seen in details that are out of view. The instrument panel bracing tube is made from lightweight carbon fibre. And on the outside of the car, the newly designed bonnet, roof and adjustable front splitter are also constructed from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The adjustable rear wing, too, is cut from this light but extremely durable high-tech material. It rests on intricate, CNC-machined aluminium mounts fixed to the CFRP boot lid which likewise demonstrate how every detail, no matter how small, has been honed to minimise weight. Teaming up with the diffuser – again, made from carbon fibre – below the rear bumper, the rear wing optimises the flow of air and reduces lift at the rear axle. The exhaust system has a titanium muffler, which allows a weight saving of 20 per cent. Its emotionally rich soundtrack fits the M profile perfectly and envelops the inside and outside of the car in the ambience of the race track.

Performance-maximising equipment features.
The standard-fitted seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) selects the optimum ratio for every driving situation with no interruption in the flow of power as it makes its way to the rear wheels. The driver can also select gears manually using either shift paddles on the steering wheel or the selector lever. The Drivelogic shift programs and Launch Control have been retuned to the engine’s increased output. The weight-minimised, exclusive M light-alloy wheels in star-spoke 666 M Styling are forged and polished, and come in Acid Orange. They are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (front: 265/35 R19, rear: 285/30 R20) which are adapted specifically to the BMW M4 GTS and therefore play a role in the car’s outstanding mechanical traction and feedback through corners.

The three-way M coilover suspension specially tuned for the BMW M4 GTS can be adjusted to individual tastes and therefore also to the demands of different race circuits. The lightweight M carbon ceramic brakes offer a well-defined pressure point and ensure outstanding deceleration even under sustained heavy loads, such as at the limit on the race track.

World-exclusive OLED technology, brilliant LED light.
The familiar two sets of twin circular headlights with four corona rings ensure the best possible illumination of the road surface. They combine cutting-edge LED (light-emitting diode) technology with BMW Selective Beam (dazzle-free high beam assistant) and Adaptive Headlights.

The L-shaped rear lights are just as distinctive as the design of the headlights. Indeed, innovative OLED rear lights will make their series-production debut in the BMW M4 GTS. OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) are a new kind of light source that light up over their full surface with a very homogeneous effect – unlike LED units, which emit their light in the form of points. The flat design of OLEDs (they measure just 1.4 millimetres in height) and the ability to trigger individual light modules separately open up fresh possibilities for lighting concepts and exudes the presence of exceptional precision. As such, the tail lights underline the width of the rear end, lend the car an even more eye-catching and powerful appearance and ensure it cuts a stand-out figure in both the light and dark.

The interior – focused, exclusive and committed to motor sport.
The carbon-fibre M bucket seats for the driver and passenger stick firmly with the lightweight construction theme inside the pure-bred, exclusive interior. They weigh around 50 per cent less than the sports seats in the BMW M4 Coupe, enable an ideal seating position and offer compelling long-distance comfort to go with their unbeatable levels of support. The exclusive Alcantara/Merino leather seat covering along with M stripes in the backrests, three-point seat belts and door pull loops highlight the profile of the BMW M4 GTS as a high-performance sports machine as well as the car’s standalone character. The M4 GTS is fitted with different bucket-style M sports seats (including lightweight backrests with cut-outs) for the North American market, in line with local registration requirements.

The exclusive material Alcantara is also used for the M sports steering wheel, whose “12 o’clock” marker underlines the racing character of the BMW M4 GTS. In place of a rear seat bench, the BMW M4 GTS features a glass-fibre-reinforced plastic (GFRP) shelf and a rear panel in carbon-fibre sandwich construction. Both are covered in Alcantara, and together they enable a weight saving of around 40 per cent.

The optional Clubsport Package can further enhance the affinity of the BMW M4 GTS with the race track. It includes a roll bar in Acid Orange behind the front seats, a race-specification six-point harness** and a fire extinguisher.

2015 saw BMW Motorsport win the seventh of a possible twelve titles in its fourth year since returning to the DTM in 2012.

The centenary of the BMW Group and the BMW brand will also play a key role in the DTM. To mark the centenary, Martin Tomczyk will compete with the number 100 on the BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM.

Given the performances shown and the sporting success enjoyed in 2015, there was no reason to change the drivers and teams for the new season. BMW Teams RMG, MTEK, RBM and Schnitzer will once again fly the flag for BMW in 2016. Back at the wheel of the eight BMW M4 DTMs will be Bruno Spengler, Marco Wittmann, António Félix da Costa, Timo Glock, Augusto Farfus, Tom Blomqvist, Maxime Martin and Martin Tomczyk

The DTM retains the successful format of two races per race weekend, which was introduced last year, meaning the 2016 season will once again feature a total of 18 races held over the course of nine events.

MotoGP en BMW M Division: deze twee partners vormen al bijna twintig jaar de ideale combinatie. MotoGP is het summum van de motorfietscompetitie en verzamelt de beste piloten in de wereld op vlak van high-performance race-prototypes waarop constructeurs hun nieuwste technologieën implementeren. High-performance en motorsport-genen zijn twee karakteristieken die ook voor BMW M gelden. Sinds 1999 is BMW M een permanent lid van de internationale MotoGP familie. De succesvolle samenwerking met organisator Dorna Sports groeide doorheen de jaren en zal ongetwijfeld nog blijven evolueren. In 2014 hebben Dorna Sports en BMW M hun samenwerkingsverband verlengd tot eind 2020. Allianties als deze die decennia lang blijven duren, zijn enorm zeldzaam op het hoogste niveau binnen de internationale sport. De kern van toewijding zit in de voorziening van de Safety Car vloot. BMW M voorziet de laatste technologieën om de veiligheid van MotoGP-rijders te handhaven, ongeacht de omstandigheden. De Safety Cars zijn high-performance BMW M wagens waarvan de uitstekende rijeigenschappen hen tot perfect racemateriaal voor het circuit maken. Het laatste voorbeeld is de BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car, die dit seizoen debuteert. De Safety Cars zijn in de BMW M fabriek speciaal aangepast voor het gebruik als Safety Car op het circuit. Hetzelfde geldt voor alle andere wagens in de vloot. De toewijding van BMW M aan MotoGP houdt ook tal van andere activiteiten in. Sinds 2003 wordt de BMW M Award aan het einde van het seizoen overhandigd aan de best gekwalificeerde MotoGP. De BMW M MotoGP Experience laat bezoekers toe om de fascinerende wereld van MotoGP van dichtbij te leren kennen. BMW M MotoGP biedt exclusieve inzichten aan. BMW en Ghost GamesTM, een studio van Electronic Arts Inc, hebben aangekondigd dat gameliefhebbers op een virtuele beleving van de BMW M2 kunnen rekenen nog voor z’n lancering. Het spel zelf zal gelanceerd worden op 3 november 2015. Met een rijke geschiedenis van meer dan 20 jaar, staat Need for SpeedTM voor een van de meest iconische spellen uit de virtuele gamewereld. Om de 30ste verjaardag van de BMW M5 - de grondlegger van het gamma sportberlines - te vieren, stelt BMW M een speciale en exclusieve editie van de huidige vijfde generatie voor die zich onderscheidt van zijn stalgenoten door zijn extra kracht. Deze BMW M5 "30 jaar M5" zal in slechts 300 exemplaren gebouwd worden en produceert 441 kW/600 pk met een koppel van 700 Nm. Dit speciale model (met een gecombineerd verbruik van 9,9 l/100km en gecombineerde CO2 uitstoot van 231 g/km) is niet enkel de meest krachtige BMW M5 van de BMW M productielijn ooit, maar ook de meest performante wagen uit de geschiedenis van het Beierse merk. De "30 jaar M5" sprint van 0 naar 100 km/h in een razendsnelle 3,9 seconden. At the turn of the year, BMW M will be offering a so-called Competition Package
intended for the particularly sports-orientated BMW M3 driver. Thanks to this
new optional equipment package, available only when purchasing a new car, the
M3 Coupé, already one of the world's best sports cars, becomes just that little
more responsive and agile. The package, which is available from December 2004,
will be sold in Belgium at a price of 5,550 Euro incl. (price M3 Competition
63,500 Euro).

The Competition Package comprises 19-inch wheels possessing the same styling of
those sported by the M3 CSL and fitted with high-performance tyres size 225/40
R 19 on 8Jx19 rims at the front and size 255/35 R 19 on 9.5x19 rims at the
rear. Overall optimisation of the suspension and slightly enhanced steering
response (a ratio of 14.5:1 instead of 15.4:1) result in noticeably improved
vehicle dynamics.

Moreover, drivers will be able to enjoy the M Track mode also featured on the
M3 CSL, allowing them to venture even further to the boundaries of the
vehicle's potential without having to forgo the benefits of Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC).

The steering wheel, the handbrake lever and, in the case of the optionally
available sequential M transmission, the gearshift lever knob have an Alcantara
covering. Owing to the M Track mode button located on the right hand steering
wheel spoke, there are no multifunction buttons.

The brake system of the M3 with the Competition Package was also taken from the
M3 CSL. Consequently, the overall diameter of the perforated compound brake
discs at the front has increased by 20 mm to 345 mm.

Finally, the Competition Package also exclusively includes the new Alu Tec
interior trim and the option of a new M3 body colour - Interlagos blue
metallic.
