Monaco. Al Salone internazionale dell'automobile IAA Mobility 2023 di Monaco, il BMW Group presenterà le ultime novità della sua trasformazione in corso nelle aree d'azione chiave dell'elettrificazione, della digitalizzazione e della circolarità. Gli ultimi nuovi modelli con propulsori elettrificati dei marchi BMW, MINI e BMW Motorrad, oltre ai Vision Vehicle e ai concept per la mobilità individuale nel mondo di domani, servono a sottolineare la forza innovativa dell'azienda in questi settori. Mentre si avvicina l'alba di una nuova era della mobilità personale, il BMW Group si appresta a presentare la sua ultima novità, la BMW Vision Neue Klasse, che riunisce l'esperienza del Gruppo nello sviluppo di tre discipline cruciali per il futuro della mobilità.

L'IAA Mobility Show si svolge per la seconda volta a Monaco di Baviera. Per il BMW Group e i suoi marchi, questa è un'eccellente opportunità per avviare un dialogo costruttivo sul futuro della mobilità individuale con la popolazione locale, oltre che con i visitatori del salone provenienti da fuori Monaco e con nuovi stakeholder. Lo IAA Mobility Summit presso il centro espositivo e l'Open Space del BMW Group nella Max-Joseph-Platz, nel cuore di Monaco, saranno le arene principali in cui BMW, MINI e BMW Motorrad presenteranno i loro nuovi prodotti dal 5 al 10 settembre 2023. Tra i modelli che i visitatori potranno conoscere qui, accanto alla BMW Vision Neue Klasse, c'è la BMW i5 completamente elettrica. Inoltre, i visitatori potranno assistere alle anteprime mondiali della nuova MINI Cooper completamente elettrica, della nuova MINI Countryman completamente elettrica e del BMW CE 02 eParkourer.

Elettrico, digitale, circolare: le aree di interesse del BMW Group.

La presenza del BMW Group allo IAA Mobility 2023 ruota attorno alla rigorosa attenzione dell'azienda per la mobilità elettrica, digitale e circolare del futuro e agli ultimi progressi compiuti in queste aree. La BMW Vision Neue Klasse è affiancata da una selezione di nuovi modelli di tutti i marchi del Gruppo, i cui propulsori elettrificati, le innovazioni digitali e la produzione a basso consumo di risorse illustrano il processo di cambiamento in corso in diversi modi.

Tra i nuovi prodotti che il marchio BMW si appresta a lanciare ci sono le varianti ibride plug-in della nuova BMW Serie 5. Anche la nuova BMW i7 Protection - il primo veicolo di protezione completamente elettrico nel segmento delle berline di lusso - farà il suo debutto allo IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI svelerà per la prima volta i membri della nuova famiglia di modelli del marchio con due anteprime mondiali: la nuova MINI Cooper completamente elettrica e la nuova MINI Countryman completamente elettrica saranno entrambe esposte presso l'Open Space. Un nuovo modello a trazione completamente elettrica costituisce anche il fulcro dell'offerta di BMW Motorrad al Max-Joseph-Platz. Concepito come un eParkourer compatto con un design all'avanguardia, il nuovo BMW CE 02 dà nuova linfa alla scena della mobilità urbana.

La mobilità a emissioni zero a livello locale è il tema dei modelli in mostra.

Il salone IAA Mobility sarà inaugurato ufficialmente il 5 settembre presso il centro espositivo di Monaco. Il BMW Group sarà presente con il suo stand nel padiglione A2, dove verrà presentata la BMW Vision Neue Klasse per dare il via all'evento. Anche il veicolo completamente elettrico BMW i7 Protection sarà presentato per la prima volta allo IAA Mobility Summit.

L'IAA Mobility Summit si svolge sotto il titolo "Experience Connected Mobility" ed è rivolto principalmente ai visitatori specializzati. Nel corso di numerosi interventi, presentazioni e tavole rotonde, verranno illustrate le tendenze e le innovazioni tecnologiche per la mobilità del futuro. Uno dei temi centrali è l'uso dell'idrogeno come fonte di energia per i veicoli attuali e futuri. BMW sta svolgendo un lavoro pionieristico in questo campo con lo sviluppo e la sperimentazione pratica di uno Sports Activity Vehicle con un sistema di propulsione a celle a combustibile alimentato a idrogeno. Anche la BMW iX5 Hydrogen sarà esposta al Summit.

La mobilità senza emissioni locali è anche il tema dominante dei modelli che attendono i visitatori del sito Open Space. BMW ha almeno un rappresentante a propulsione puramente elettrica in tutti i segmenti di modelli rilevanti. Il marchio presenta al pubblico la sua intera gamma, che va dal compatto Sports Activity Vehicle BMW iX1, passando per la BMW i4 e la BMW i5, fino alla BMW iX e alla berlina di lusso BMW i7.

L'Open Space nella Max-Joseph-Platz può essere visitato gratuitamente dal 5 al 9 settembre dalle 10.00 alle 22.00 e domenica 10 settembre dalle 10.00 alle 17.00. Inoltre, il BMW Welt continuerà ad essere una destinazione attraente per tutti gli appassionati di automobili durante lo IAA Mobility 2023. Qui vengono presentati gli attuali portafogli di modelli dei marchi BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce e BMW Motorrad, oltre alle ultime collezioni BMW e MINI Lifestyle. Inoltre, a partire dal 2 settembre 2023, BMW Lifestyle insieme a BMW M GmbH gestirà un pop-up store GOODS WITH FREUDE nel centro commerciale Hofstatt al numero 10 di Sendlinger Straße. Situato a pochi minuti a piedi dall'Open Space, il negozio presenterà sia articoli lifestyle già noti sia la nuova collezione BMW Lifestyle.

Anteprima mondiale: la BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

Allo IAA Mobility 2023, il BMW Group offre ai visitatori un'anteprima della Neue Klasse, la prossima generazione di modelli BMW. La BMW Vision Neue Klasse riunisce innovazioni nei settori dell'elettrificazione, della digitalizzazione e della circolarità nello stile tipico di BMW. Il Vision Vehicle porta il design, il controllo/operazione, l'efficienza e la sostenibilità in una dimensione completamente nuova, che sarà possibile sperimentare su strada tra non molto.

Durante lo IAA Mobility 2023, il BMW Vision Neue Klasse sarà esposto sia al Summit che all'Open Space. Il nuovo Vision Vehicle incorpora le ultime innovazioni nei settori chiave del BMW Group incentrati sul futuro. Si basa quindi sulla BMW i Vision Circular e sulla BMW i Vision Dee - che hanno già dimostrato l'esperienza di sviluppo del BMW Group nei settori dell'economia circolare e della digitalizzazione - e combina le loro qualità con ulteriori nuovi sviluppi nel design degli esterni e degli interni, nell'esperienza utente e nella tecnologia dei propulsori e delle batterie.

Anteprima mondiale: le varianti ibride plug-in della nuova BMW Serie 5 berlina.

Oltre alla BMW i5 completamente elettrica, il marchio esporrà allo IAA Mobility 2023 altre due varianti di modelli con propulsori elettrificati. Già nella primavera del 2024, alla gamma della nuova BMW Serie 5 Berlina si aggiungeranno due modelli dotati di una tecnologia ibrida plug-in all'avanguardia. I motori a benzina a sei e quattro cilindri in linea della nuova generazione modulare di unità Efficient Dynamics saranno combinati con la più recente tecnologia BMW eDrive per sistemi ibridi plug-in. Ciò si tradurrà in un notevole aumento della potenza e in un'erogazione molto più nitida, migliorando al contempo in modo significativo l'efficienza e l'autonomia elettrica rispetto alla generazione di modelli precedente.

Il motore elettrico sviluppato appositamente per il nuovo sistema ibrido plug-in è integrato nel cambio Steptronic Sport a otto rapporti insieme alla sua elettronica di potenza. L'unità motrice altamente integrata contribuisce con 145 kW/197 CV alla potenza massima combinata di 360 kW/489 CV nel caso della nuova BMW 550e xDrive berlina (consumo di carburante combinato: 1,1 - 0,8 l/100 km [256,8 - 353,1 mpg imp]; consumo elettrico combinato: 22,5 - 20,1 kWh/100 km; emissioni di CO₂ combinate: 24 - 19 g/km nel ciclo WLTP, dati provvisori) e 220 kW/299 CV per la nuova BMW 530e Berlina (consumo di carburante combinato: 0,8 - 0,6 l/100 km [353,1 - 470,8 mpg imp]; consumo elettrico combinato: 21,4 - 18,9 kWh/100 km; emissioni di CO₂ combinate: 19 - 14 g/km nel ciclo WLTP, dati provvisori).

Un'innovazione brevettata da BMW è stata utilizzata per migliorare l'erogazione di potenza del motore elettrico nei nuovi modelli ibridi plug-in: una fase di pre-cambio consente di aumentare la coppia nominale di 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) fino a una coppia effettiva di 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) all'ingresso della trasmissione per il motore. Il motore elettrico compatto è quindi in grado di aumentare la coppia di una quantità che normalmente sarebbe possibile solo utilizzando un'unità più grande e fa una chiara differenza sia quando si accelera in partenza che quando si raggiunge una rapida accelerazione. L'autonomia elettrica è ora di 79-90 chilometri (49-56 miglia) nel ciclo WLTP per la nuova BMW 550e xDrive berlina e di 87-101 chilometri (54-63 miglia) nel ciclo WLTP per la nuova BMW 530e berlina.

Il posizionamento salvaspazio della batteria ad alta tensione agli ioni di litio nel sottoscocca del veicolo ha un effetto benefico sia sul baricentro dell'auto sia sulla capacità del bagagliaio, che nei modelli ibridi plug-in ha una capienza totale di 520 litri, pari a quella offerta dai loro fratelli con motore a combustione pura. L'energia utilizzabile fornita dalla batteria ad alto voltaggio è salita a 19,4 kWh. Allo stesso tempo, la capacità di ricarica massima è raddoppiata rispetto ai modelli precedenti ed è ora pari a 7,4 kW, consentendo di ricaricare completamente la batteria ad alto voltaggio da vuota in 3,0 ore. Collegata a una presa di corrente domestica convenzionale, la ricarica completa del veicolo avviene in 9,8 ore.

Anteprima mondiale: la BMW i7 Protection.

BMW presenta una nuova generazione di veicoli di sicurezza nel segmento delle berline di lusso al salone IAA Mobility 2023. La nuova BMW i7 Protection (consumo elettrico combinato nel ciclo WLTP: 30,0 kWh/100 km, dato provvisorio) è assolutamente unica in questo segmento, in quanto è la prima berlina di sicurezza certificata al mondo con un sistema di trazione completamente elettrico. Azionata da due potenti motori elettrici, soddisfa tutti i requisiti della classe di sicurezza VR9 senza alcuna limitazione, così come la nuova BMW Serie 7 Protection con motore V8 (consumo di carburante combinato nel ciclo WLTP: 14,6 l/100 km [19,3 mpg imp]; emissioni di CO2: 328 g/km, dati provvisori).

Entrambi i modelli combinano il concetto di sicurezza integrata che ha caratterizzato lo sviluppo della nuova gamma di BMW Serie 7 con livelli eccezionali di comfort di guida e spaziosità, equipaggiamenti avanzati e l'imbattibile prodezza dinamica per cui BMW è rinomata. Il concept è incentrato sul nuovo ed esclusivo BMW Protection Core, che forma una struttura della carrozzeria autoportante realizzata in acciaio corazzato. Questa è poi combinata con caratteristiche come l'armatura aggiuntiva per il sottoscocca e il tetto, oltre a vetri blindati. Il risultato è una protezione personalizzata dagli attacchi con armi da fuoco o esplosivi per le persone a rischio. I vetri dei nuovi veicoli di sicurezza soddisfano persino i requisiti della più alta classe di protezione civile, la VPAM 10.

La BMW i7 Protection, completamente elettrica, è dotata di un motore elettrico sull'asse anteriore e di un altro sull'asse posteriore. Insieme generano una potenza combinata di 400 kW/544 CV e una coppia massima combinata di 745 Nm e creano un sistema di trazione integrale elettrica. La nuova BMW i7 Protection scatta da ferma a 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9,0 secondi, mentre la velocità massima è limitata elettronicamente a 160 km/h (99 mph). L'erogazione istantanea e precisamente orchestrata della potenza dei due motori garantisce una trazione e una stabilità direzionale eccezionali anche quando l'auto viene guidata con forza ed esegue manovre impegnative, come ad esempio quando si sfugge a un attacco.

La tecnologia del telaio, messa a punto e ottimizzata specificamente per questo modello, tiene conto anche del peso aggiuntivo dell'armatura, garantendo prestazioni eccellenti in qualsiasi situazione. Un'altra offerta unica per questo segmento è l'inclusione dell'Integral Active Steering di serie. Questo riduce il raggio di sterzata dell'auto, aumenta l'agilità in curva a velocità sostenuta e migliora il comfort di guida per i passeggeri dei sedili posteriori. I cerchi in lega leggera da 20 pollici sono un'altra caratteristica distintiva. I pneumatici PAX, anch'essi di serie, consentono all'auto di proseguire il viaggio fino a 80 km/h (50 mph) anche in caso di perdita totale di pressione.

L'ultima generazione di BMW iDrive, basata sul BMW Operating System 8.5, è dotata del BMW Curved Display. Il sistema è intuitivo e funziona in modo familiare ai conducenti BMW. Anche le funzioni speciali relative alla protezione degli occupanti sono gestite tramite il BMW iDrive. I nuovi veicoli di sicurezza possono essere personalizzati per qualsiasi scopo, con elementi quali un sistema di alimentazione di aria fresca, un sistema di estinzione degli incendi, luci lampeggianti, ricetrasmittenti e aste per bandiere per quando l'auto è in servizio ufficiale, oltre ad altre opzioni speciali specifiche per il cliente.

All'avanguardia: la BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

La BMW iX5 Hydrogen presentata allo IAA Mobility 2023 è un'ulteriore prova della superlativa forza innovativa dell'azienda nel campo della tecnologia di guida. Una serie pilota dello Sports Activity Vehicle con propulsione a celle a combustibile a idrogeno, sviluppato sulla base dell'attuale BMW X5, è entrata in servizio per scopi dimostrativi e di prova con vari gruppi target in tutto il mondo. Questo permette a gruppi di test selezionati che non sono stati coinvolti nel processo di sviluppo di mettersi al volante della BMW iX5 Hydrogen e di farsi un'idea diretta delle sue caratteristiche per la prima volta.

La BMW iX5 Hydrogen è equipaggiata con l'ultima, quinta generazione della tecnologia BMW eDrive. L'unità motrice altamente integrata sull'asse posteriore trae la sua energia da una batteria ad alte prestazioni con tecnologia agli ioni di litio, sviluppata appositamente per il veicolo a idrogeno a celle a combustibile, e genera una potenza massima di 295 kW/401 CV. Il motore elettrico funge anche da generatore che, in fase di sorpasso o di frenata, restituisce energia alla batteria ad alte prestazioni.

I due serbatoi da 700 bar in plastica rinforzata con fibra di carbonio (CFRP) contengono insieme sei chilogrammi di idrogeno gassoso e possono essere riempiti in tre o quattro minuti. Nel sistema di celle a combustibile avviene una reazione chimica tra l'idrogeno e l'ossigeno dell'aria, attraverso la quale viene generata l'energia elettrica per il motore elettrico. La BMW iX5 Hydrogen raggiunge un'autonomia di 504 chilometri (313 miglia) nel ciclo WLTP senza dover riempire i serbatoi. Il SAV a idrogeno compie lo scatto da 0 a 100 km/h (62 mph) in meno di sei secondi e raggiunge una velocità massima superiore a 180 km/h (112 mph).

La BMW iX5 Hydrogen combina le capacità di lunga percorrenza e le brevi soste per il rifornimento con zero emissioni allo scarico e con la dinamica di guida tipica di BMW. La sua tecnologia a celle a combustibile a idrogeno ha il potenziale - a condizione che siano presenti le necessarie condizioni di base - per fungere da ulteriore pilastro nel futuro portafoglio di propulsori del BMW Group. Nell'ambito della sua continua trasformazione, il BMW Group sta seguendo un approccio che abbraccia tutte le tecnologie quando si tratta di sistemi di propulsione. L'azienda si sta quindi preparando ad affrontare le diverse esigenze dei clienti, gli standard infrastrutturali e i quadri politici e normativi delle varie regioni del mondo. Munich. Premium automobile manufacturer BMW is increasing the efficiency, appeal and variety of its electrified models for the upper mid-range segment. The latest battery cell technology contributes to increasing the electric range of the BMW 530e Sedan plug-in hybrid model to between 61 and 66 kilometres*. In addition, the latest-generation BMW eDrive technology has reduced the combined fuel consumption and CO₂emissions levels by more than 20 percent from 1.8 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres* as well as by 41 to 36 grams per kilometre*. The combined power consumption of the BMW 530e Sedan is now 14.5 to 13.6 kWh per 100 kilometres*. Parallel to the market launch of the BMW 530e Sedan, the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is also available immediately (fuel consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 49 – 46 g/km), which combines the advanced plug-in hybrid system with intelligent all-wheel drive.

Both plug-in hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series Sedan profit from the latest advances in the field of battery cell technology for electrified models of the BMW Group. The new lithium-ion high-voltage battery of the BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan has a gross energy content increased from 9.2 to 12.0 kWh with no increase in physical size. Thanks to this increased capacity, the main share of day-to-day driving can be conducted electrically thereby reducing local emissions to zero. The high-voltage battery is housed space-savingly under the rear seat so that luggage compartment volume compared to the conventionally driven versions of the BMW 5 Series Sedan is limited only to a minimal degree. The storage volume in the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is 410 litres.

The new high-voltage battery can be charged at conventional household sockets using the standard-equipment charging cable. The battery can be charged in less than six hours in this way. At a BMW i Wallbox the respective charging operation takes 3:35 hours. The charging socket is located under a separate flap on the front left side wall of the car. 

The intelligently controlled interaction between combustion engine and electric motor in the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan achieves an outstanding level of efficiency and provides a distinctive quality of hallmark BMW driving pleasure. The plug-in hybrid system of both models consists of a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology generating an output of 135 kW/184 hp as well as an 83 kW/113 hp electric motor, which is integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they develop a system output of 185 kW/252 hp along with a maximum system torque of 420 Nm. The BMW 530e Sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The BMW 530e xDrive Sedan completes the standard sprint in 6.2 seconds. The top speed of both models is 235 km/h.

Intelligent energy management enables optimally efficient operation of the hybrid system. In order to further improve efficiency and driving pleasure, navigation data are also used for determining the ideal operation mode pro-actively.  The driver can also influence the drive mode with the eDrive button. In the AUTO eDRIVE standard setting, purely electric driving is possible up to a speed of 110 km/h. After switching to the MAX eDRIVE mode, the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan can even travel at speeds of up to 140 km/h with zero local emissions. An acoustic pedestrian protection function is part of the hybrid-specific standard equipment. When driving electrically with speeds of up to 30 km/h, an unmistakeable sound, designed specifically for electrified BMW models, is generated to alert other road users without impairing the acoustic comfort of the vehicle occupants.

The latest-generation battery cell technology optimises both the electric range as well as the overall efficiency of the plug-in hybrid system. In the BMW 530e Sedan, local zero-emission driving is now possible for 61 to 66 kilometres*. The electric range of the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is 55 to 58 kilometres*. A combined fuel consumption of 1.8 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres* (BMW 530e xDrive Sedan: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km*), CO₂ emissions of 41 to 36 g/km* (49 – 46 g/km*) and power consumption figures of 14.5 to 13.6 kWh per100 kilometres* (15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km*) characterise the high efficiency of the electrified drive. Both hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series Sedan can meet the conditions for reduced company car taxation in Germany (depending on the equipment level) due to their low CO₂ emission levels and their large electric range. Only half the gross list price is used as a basis when calculating the monetary benefit from the private use of the company car.

The BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive feature an auxiliary air conditioning system. The interior can be pre-conditioned remotely via BMW Connected using a smartphone. In addition, almost the entire range of 5 Series Sedan optional equipment is available for both plug-in hybrid models. The offer ranges from Adaptive Suspension and light alloy wheels in the sizes 17 to 20 inches to especially stylish and high-quality optional equipment by BMW Individual and the driver assistance systems Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Plus. BMW Live Cockpit ConnectedDrive with its fully digital display design is also available as special equipment. It includes a high-resolution instrument cluster with diagonal screen dimensions of 12.3 inches behind the steering wheel and a 10.25 inch control display.  The scope of customisable displays in the BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan further include hybrid-specific depictions, which show electric range, charging status, the location of public charging stations as well as other information.

BMW plug-in hybrid models offer an array of benefits in everyday use.

BMW’s plug-in hybrid drive systems already offer users a host of additional benefits over traditional solutions:

• Money-saving: Electric driving in urban areas is cheaper than using petrol or diesel if the plug-in hybrid vehicle is charged at home or at the workplace at low cost.
• Interior always at the right temperature, even before you get in: auxiliary heating and auxiliary air conditioning are fitted as standard.
• Braking is winning: The battery is charged under braking. In conventional vehicles, braking generates only heat and brake dust.
• The best of both worlds: Plug-in hybrids provide electric driving pleasure in urban areas and classical BMW driving pleasure over longer distances.

• Smoothing the way into the future: Because a plug-in hybrid can run emission-free, it is eligible to enter many low-emission zones, enjoys extra parking privileges and saves on toll charges.
• Better quality of life in cities: By driving on electric power, users can actively contribute to reducing emissions and traffic noise in cities.

New BMW 530e Sedan has a smaller overall CO₂ footprint.

The “real” environmental impact of plug-in hybrid vehicles has been questioned on occasion, especially in markets where the proportion of green energy used by the public energy grid remains small. The BMW Group conducted a full-cycle CO₂ certification for the new BMW 530e Sedan – from raw material procurement, the supply chain, production and the use phase, all the way to recycling.

This revealed the CO₂ footprint of the new BMW 530e Sedan to be 23 per cent smaller than that of the new BMW 530i Sedan when running on average European power in the use phase. When charging the car with green energy, its CO₂ footprint is reduced by as much as 47 percent.

Munich. Premium automobile manufacturer BMW is increasing the efficiency, appeal and variety of its electrified models for the upper mid-range segment. The latest battery cell technology contributes to increasing the electric range of the BMW 530e Sedan plug-in hybrid model to between 61 and 66 kilometres*. In addition, the latest-generation BMW eDrive technology has reduced the combined fuel consumption and CO₂emissions levels by more than 20 percent from 1.8 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres* as well as by 41 to 36 grams per kilometre*. The combined power consumption of the BMW 530e Sedan is now 14.5 to 13.6 kWh per 100 kilometres*. Parallel to the market launch of the BMW 530e Sedan, the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is also available immediately (fuel consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 49 – 46 g/km), which combines the advanced plug-in hybrid system with intelligent all-wheel drive.

Both plug-in hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series Sedan profit from the latest advances in the field of battery cell technology for electrified models of the BMW Group. The new lithium-ion high-voltage battery of the BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan has a gross energy content increased from 9.2 to 12.0 kWh with no increase in physical size. Thanks to this increased capacity, the main share of day-to-day driving can be conducted electrically thereby reducing local emissions to zero. The high-voltage battery is housed space-savingly under the rear seat so that luggage compartment volume compared to the conventionally driven versions of the BMW 5 Series Sedan is limited only to a minimal degree. The storage volume in the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is 410 litres.

The new high-voltage battery can be charged at conventional household sockets using the standard-equipment charging cable. The battery can be charged in less than six hours in this way. At a BMW i Wallbox the respective charging operation takes 3:35 hours. The charging socket is located under a separate flap on the front left side wall of the car. 

The intelligently controlled interaction between combustion engine and electric motor in the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan achieves an outstanding level of efficiency and provides a distinctive quality of hallmark BMW driving pleasure. The plug-in hybrid system of both models consists of a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology generating an output of 135 kW/184 hp as well as an 83 kW/113 hp electric motor, which is integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they develop a system output of 185 kW/252 hp along with a maximum system torque of 420 Nm. The BMW 530e Sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The BMW 530e xDrive Sedan completes the standard sprint in 6.2 seconds. The top speed of both models is 235 km/h.

Intelligent energy management enables optimally efficient operation of the hybrid system. In order to further improve efficiency and driving pleasure, navigation data are also used for determining the ideal operation mode pro-actively.  The driver can also influence the drive mode with the eDrive button. In the AUTO eDRIVE standard setting, purely electric driving is possible up to a speed of 110 km/h. After switching to the MAX eDRIVE mode, the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan can even travel at speeds of up to 140 km/h with zero local emissions. An acoustic pedestrian protection function is part of the hybrid-specific standard equipment. When driving electrically with speeds of up to 30 km/h, an unmistakeable sound, designed specifically for electrified BMW models, is generated to alert other road users without impairing the acoustic comfort of the vehicle occupants.

The latest-generation battery cell technology optimises both the electric range as well as the overall efficiency of the plug-in hybrid system. In the BMW 530e Sedan, local zero-emission driving is now possible for 61 to 66 kilometres*. The electric range of the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is 55 to 58 kilometres*. A combined fuel consumption of 1.8 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres* (BMW 530e xDrive Sedan: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km*), CO₂ emissions of 41 to 36 g/km* (49 – 46 g/km*) and power consumption figures of 14.5 to 13.6 kWh per100 kilometres* (15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km*) characterise the high efficiency of the electrified drive. Both hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series Sedan can meet the conditions for reduced company car taxation in Germany (depending on the equipment level) due to their low CO₂ emission levels and their large electric range. Only half the gross list price is used as a basis when calculating the monetary benefit from the private use of the company car.

The BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive feature an auxiliary air conditioning system. The interior can be pre-conditioned remotely via BMW Connected using a smartphone. In addition, almost the entire range of 5 Series Sedan optional equipment is available for both plug-in hybrid models. The offer ranges from Adaptive Suspension and light alloy wheels in the sizes 17 to 20 inches to especially stylish and high-quality optional equipment by BMW Individual and the driver assistance systems Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Plus. BMW Live Cockpit ConnectedDrive with its fully digital display design is also available as special equipment. It includes a high-resolution instrument cluster with diagonal screen dimensions of 12.3 inches behind the steering wheel and a 10.25 inch control display.  The scope of customisable displays in the BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan further include hybrid-specific depictions, which show electric range, charging status, the location of public charging stations as well as other information.

BMW plug-in hybrid models offer an array of benefits in everyday use.

Munich. Just a few weeks after the latest generation of the BMW 5 Series was launched, a plug-in hybrid variant will now join the ranks of the world’s most successful business sedan. The BMW 530e iPerformance is a sporty sedan that serves up the dynamic driving experience for which the brand is renowned, combined with the possibility of electric driving with zero local emissions. Its fuel consumption of 1.9 l/100 km (148.7 mpg imp) equates to CO2 emissions of just 44 g/km*. The BMW 530e iPerformance is the most innovative model in its class and offers the full wealth of BMW 5 Series driver assistance systems – in all modes, including eDrive. These systems are complemented by all the available comfort-enhancing features and excellent long-distance driving credentials, including a boot that can hold ample luggage for trips away. As for its power source, trailblazing BMW eDrive technology teams up with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create an exceptionally economical and powerful plug-in hybrid drive system that fits perfectly with the dynamic, smooth and efficient character profile of the new BMW 5 Series.

ISO certification confirms exemplary environmental credentials.

The iPerformance tag attached to all of BMW’s plug-in hybrid models bears testimony to the transfer of know-how from BMW i to the core brand’s cars. The BMW 530e iPerformance is the sixth member of a growing portfolio of iPerformance models that have proved a hit with customers. Its exemplary environmental credentials have been recognised in the form of ISO certification by the TÜV Rheinland inspection authorities. The entire lifecycle of the vehicle, from the extraction of raw materials and the manufacturing process as a whole to the usage phase and recycling, is taken into account to determine its environmental impact – known as its “global warming potential” – in the form of CO2 equivalents (CO2e). This independent certification in accordance with the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards shows that the global warming potential of the BMW 530e iPerformance is 15 per cent lower than that of the BMW 530i powered purely by a combustion engine. If only renewably generated power is used to charge the high-voltage battery, the environmental impact of the plug-in hybrid model is reduced by as much as 47 per cent.

Power delivery on a par with a high-displacement combustion engine.

The BMW eDrive system’s state-of-the-art electric motor has an output of 83 kW/113 hp and places maximum torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) on tap, while the four-cylinder combustion engine with its 2.0-litre displacement generates 135 kW/184 hp and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. The combination of motor and engine keeps the CO2 emissions of the BMW 530e iPerformance very low at just 44 g/km. The overall system output of 185 kW/252 hp and combined peak torque of 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) propel the BMW 530e iPerformance from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds and enable it to reach a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph). The BMW 530e iPerformance has a range of up to 650 kilometres (404 miles) in real-world driving and is capable of covering distances of up to 50 kilometres (31 miles) purely on electric power at a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). The electric motor and combustion engine direct their power to the sedan’s rear wheels via the standard eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Positioning the electric motor upstream from the transmission allows the transmission’s ratios to be used in all-electric mode too. This dispenses with the need for a torque converter, something that goes a long way towards offsetting the weight penalty of the additional drive unit.

Unique charging innovations for the high-voltage battery: the BMW Digital Charging Service and BMW Wireless Charging.

The high-voltage battery pack consisting of lithium-ion cells with a total capacity of 9.2 kWh has been placed in a space-saving location underneath the rear seat and includes efficient refrigerant cooling with a highly integrated low-temperature circuit. Thanks to the battery’s neat installation, the BMW 530e iPerformance offers 410 litres of boot capacity and a flat load compartment floor. The high-voltage battery of the BMW 530e iPerformance can be fully charged in under five hours from a standard domestic power socket and in under three hours if it is hooked up to a BMW i Wallbox (3.7 kW charging capacity).

With its BMW Digital Charging Service, BMW is the world’s first car maker to offer a service providing forward-thinking, comfortable and cost-efficient charging that is optimised for the use of green energy. On each occasion, the charging process is managed so that the vehicle always has access to full battery capacity at the required departure time – and, if desired, allows the cabin temperature to be pre-conditioned.

The BMW Digital Charging Service is based on two core functions: optimising battery charging in terms of both tariffs and the use of solar power. With tariff-optimised charging, the service adjusts the vehicle charging plan to the customer’s electricity tariff, so the process incurs the lowest possible electricity cost. If the customer has a BMW Wallbox Connect, solar-optimised charging allows electricity generated by their home solar power system to be prioritised for charging. Here, the system’s output data and the latest weather forecast are used to predict the amount of locally generated solar power available. If the necessary measuring equipment is installed, this information can also be used to determine what proportion of the solar power is not being used in the house at the time of generation and can therefore be diverted to provide virtually emission-free mobility. This enables vehicles with all-electric or part-electric power units to be integrated as effectively as possible into the home environment and the customer’s personal energy set-up.

In addition, BMW Wireless Charging for the high-voltage battery will be made available as an option for the BMW 530e iPerformance from 2018. This technology allows energy transfer to take place without the use of cables. Presented by BMW in prototype form, the system consists of a base pad with integrated primary coil – which can be installed in a garage, for example, but also in the open – and a secondary coil integrated in the underside of the vehicle. An alternating magnetic field is generated between the two coils, through which electricity is transmitted without cables or contacts at a charge rate of up to 3.2 kW. This form of power supply to the high-voltage battery is extremely convenient for customers and involves a charging time of around three-and-a-half hours.

Discreet visual differentiation inside and out.

A series of understated visual highlights provide tell-tale signs of the cutting-edge drive technology under the bonnet of the new BMW 530e iPerformance. Blue kidney grille slats, blue wheel hub covers, the charging socket located between the front wheel arch and the A-pillar on the driver’s side, the “eDrive” emblems on the C‑pillars and, of course, the “530e” badge on the boot lid are the most noticeable identifying features of the plug-in hybrid variant. When passengers open the doors, they are welcomed by illuminated sill panels bearing “eDrive” lettering and an interior that mirrors the sporty elegance of the exterior design, just as it does on all variants of the business sedan. The BMW 530e iPerformance additionally comes with an eDrive button on the centre console, along with specially designed displays for both the instrument cluster in front of the driver and the central information screen.

BMW eDrive adapts and anticipates.

As well as the Driving Experience Control switch, with its SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO settings, drivers will also find an eDrive button at their disposal, which lets them tailor the BMW eDrive system’s operation even more precisely to the journey ahead through three driving modes: AUTO eDRIVE, MAX eDRIVE and BATTERY CONTROL.

AUTO eDRIVE ensures that the engine and electric motor interact to optimum effect in all driving situations and allows an all-electric top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). This mode is automatically activated as the default setting every time the vehicle is started. When MAX eDRIVE mode is selected, the BMW 530e iPerformance drives on electric power alone. To do so, it uses the electric drive’s full power and can attain a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). However, if the accelerator is pressed through to kickdown the engine will cut in, which is handy should an extra boost of power be desired – when overtaking, for example.

BATTERY CONTROL mode lets the driver set the charge level for the high-voltage battery manually. The target value can be adjusted to between 30 and 100 per cent of maximum charge, allowing that proportion of the battery’s capacity to be reserved for all-electric driving at a later point in the journey. The intelligent battery management of the BMW 530e iPerformance either keeps the high-voltage battery’s charge constant at the selected level or increases it to the pre-set value, with the electric motor acting as a generator. In this way, BATTERY CONTROL mode makes it possible to conserve or even increase the reserves of electric power while travelling on the motorway, for example, in order to ensure that an upcoming section through an urban area can be covered with zero local emissions.

Latest-generation iDrive for even more intuitive operation.

As in all the other models in the new BMW 5 Series line-up, the navigation, telephone, entertainment and vehicle functions grouped within the optional high-resolution 10.25-inch display can be controlled not only using the iDrive Controller, but also by simply touching the buttons on the display or with the help of the Intelligent Voice Assistant. BMW gesture control, which reacts to simple movements of the hand or fingers, offers users another option when it comes to operating these functions.

All driver assistance systems and equipment features are available.

The new BMW 530e iPerformance does not impose any restrictions when it comes to the choice of equipment options, meaning that it is able to support the driver with an extensive range of assistance systems, if desired – and these can also be used in eDrive mode. The systems comprise the evasion aid, crossing traffic warning, the Lane Change Assistant and active Lane Change Warning, which intervenes in the vehicle’s steering to avert an impending collision. The optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assistant now come with new functions. These include importing the speed limits relayed by Speed Limit Assist to the Active Cruise Control system, with the driver also having the option of setting a margin of variation of +/– 15 km/h (+/– 9 mph). This feature brings the BMW 530e iPerformance a step closer to automated driving, as does the Steering and lane control assistant; with this system, the vehicle helps the driver maintain a safe distance, accelerate, brake and stay in lane when travelling at speeds between 0 and 210 km/h (0 – 130 mph).

BMW Connected Onboard: the personalised start screen.

With the launch of BMW Connected in the USA and Europe in 2016, BMW has introduced an all-encompassing digital concept designed to aid personal mobility. Using a flexible platform called the Open Mobility Cloud as a basis, BMW Connected seamlessly integrates the vehicle into the user’s digital life via multiple touchpoints, such as an iPhone, Apple Watch, Android smartphone or smartwatch. Further new functions have been introduced in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, for example BMW Connected Onboard, which allows personalised information such as the next navigation destination, estimated arrival time and current weather conditions at the destination to be shown on the car’s display. BMW Connected is additionally able to transfer the user’s personal mobility agenda from their smartphone straight to their car.

Surround View and 3D View offer peace of mind to anyone who frequently finds themselves manoeuvring in awkward traffic situations in city centres by allowing them to keep an eye on the area surrounding their BMW 5 Series at all times. The system shows a bird’s-eye view of the driver’s car as well as a three-dimensional image of the traffic situation. With the Remote 3D View technology integrated into BMW Connected, these three-dimensional views of the vehicle’s surrounding area can now be accessed from smartphones too, allowing owners to quickly check on their parked car no matter how far away it is. The image data is transmitted over the mobile phone network to the mobile device.

Parking with ease: ParkNow and On-Street Parking Information.

Drivers of the new BMW 530e iPerformance will be able to access products such as ParkNow for digitised reservation and payment of parking spaces, as well as the On-Street Parking Information technology making its debut in the new BMW 5 Series. This system uses a local prediction model to compute probable parking options in a particular part of town and shows them to the driver on the display.

Email access with Microsoft Exchange.

BMW is now the first carmaker to offer Microsoft Office 365 users a secure server connection for exchanging and editing emails, calendar entries and contact details thanks to the car’s built-in Microsoft Exchange function. This seamless integration enables users to stay productive while on the road. Addresses from appointments can be imported straight into the navigation system and telephone numbers can be dialled directly from a linked phone.

Sixth model to carry the iPerformance tag.

In the same way that M Performance is a nod to the link between the BMW core brand and BMW M, BMW highlights the transfer of know-how from BMW i to the core brand’s cars by adding the iPerformance tag to the designations of all plug-in hybrid BMWs. The list of groundbreaking models in whose tyre tracks the BMW 530e iPerformance will follow includes the BMW 225xe iPerformance, BMW 330e iPerformance, BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance and BMW 740e/740Le iPerformance, plus the BMW X1 xDrive 25Le iPerformance sold exclusively in China. BMW therefore offers an extremely wide selection of iPerformance models, ranging from compact to luxury-class. The new BMW 530e iPerformance brings a sixth model to the portfolio, with further additions set to follow.

Il sistema di trazione integrale BMW xDrive distribuisce le forze motrici della BMW M550i xDrive in modo intelligente su tutte le quattro ruote in base alla situazione momentanea, privilegiando la trazione posteriore. BMW xDrive assicura così a tutte le condizioni di guida delle prestazioni impeccabili e un handling estremamente preciso, due elementi che caratterizzano la dinamica di guida M Performance. In combinazione con l’assetto adattivo M Sport, ribassato di 10 mm, i cerchi in lega M da 19 pollici in cerium grey metallizzato opaco, di serie, o i cerchi da 20 pollici dal design esclusivo, offerti come optional***, verniciati sempre in cerium grey metallizzato la BMW M550i xDrive assicura in tutte le occasioni un’elevata stabilità di guida e la migliore trazione possibile.

Al contempo, nelle impostazioni SPORT e SPORT+ il servosterzo con linee caratteristiche specifiche M sottolinea la precisione di handling e di comportamento di guida del rappresentante attualmente più sportivo della nuova generazione della BMW Serie 5. I movimenti del volante vengono trasmessi con la massima precisione, il guidatore ottiene esattamente quel feedback che genera l’entusiasmante piacere di guida nel percorrere velocemente delle strade tortuose. L’equipaggiamento dinamico della BMW M550i xDrive viene completato dai freni sportivi M, con pinze verniciate in blu metallizzato e la scritta M, che provvede non solo a una decelerazione eccellente ma anche a un dosaggio ottimale.

Look sportivo ed esclusivi equipaggiamenti M Performance
Il look esterno della nuova BMW M550i xDrive sottolinea il potenziale dinamico della berlina, confermandone la posizione di modello top di gamma della nuova BMW Serie 5. Il pacchetto aerodinamico M con spoiler M sul cofano posteriore (“gurney”) esalta l’andamento sportivo/dinamico delle linee della nuova BMW Serie 5, ottimizzando il flusso d’aria intorno e sopra la vettura. Le calotte degli specchietti retrovisori esterni, la cornice del doppio rene, gli inserti specifici M della presa d’aria anteriore e i due Air Breather laterali sono stati realizzati nella tinta esclusiva cerium grey metallizzato. Il Shadow Line lucido delle cornici dei cristalli laterali intensifica ulteriormente l’immagine sportiva della dinamica berlina business. L’impianto di scarico sportivo M, completo di esclusive mascherine dei terminali di scarico cromate nere a destra e sinistra della vettura, assicura il caratteristico ed emozionante sound BMW M.

I passeggeri accedono agli interni attraverso i battitacco illuminati con la scritta “M550i xDrive”. Nell’abitacolo, i sedili sportivi M rivestiti in pelle Dakota nera con cuciture decorative nel colore di contrasto blu, il volante sportivo M in pelle dell’ultima generazione, tappetini con il design M e modanature specifiche, nonché i pedali in alluminio trasmettono quell’atmosfera sportiva che distingue tutte le automobili BMW M Performance.

Sistemi di assistenza alla guida supportano il guidatore nell’eseguire i compiti di routine
Analogamente a tutti i modelli della nuova generazione della BMW Serie 5, anche la BMW M550i xDrive supporta il guidatore, qualora lo desideri, con una gamma di sistemi di assistenza alla guida nuovamente ampliata. Questa comprende per esempio l’assistente durante le manovre di evasione-collisione, l’assistente anti collisione laterale, il sistema attivo di Lane Change Warning che in caso di rischio imminente di collisione interviene attivamente sullo sterzo. Active Cruise Control (ACC), offerto come optional, e l’assistente di guida nella corsia sono equipaggiati adesso con funzioni ampliate. Inoltre, grazie a Speed Limit Assist intelligente, che trasmette automaticamente al regolatore di velocità i limiti, la BMW M550i xDrive compie un ulteriore passo verso la guida automatizzata.

Interconnessione ancora più stretta tra vettura, guidatore e ambiente esterno
Il BMW Connected System consente all’ultima generazione della BMW Serie 5 di interconnettere guidatore, vettura e ambiente esterno. Il nuovo sistema collega attraverso il server BMW vari dispositivi periferici, come smartphone, smartwatch, computer e tablet oppure anche il sistema di navigazione della vettura. Il risultato è un sistema intelligente che riconosce modelli di mobilità e preferenze personali e si trasforma così in manager personale di mobilità, supportando l’utente nel gestire in modo semplice la mobilità giornaliera che diviene costantemente più complessa. Già prima di partire BMW Connected integra automaticamente nella pianificazione dell’itinerario le informazioni sul traffico in tempo reale (RTTI) e raccomanda eventualmente di anticipare la partenza, per esempio quando le condizioni del traffico richiedono di scegliere una deviazione. Per il calcolo dell’itinerario BMW Connected si basa come sempre sulla posizione attuale della vettura, ma considera anche il luogo in cui si trova il guidatore della BMW. Il nuovo sistema riunisce inoltre le funzioni e i servizi della già conosciuta BMW Remote app e della BMW Connected app. In più, l’utente può fare uso di una serie di offerte, come ParkNow per la prenotazione e il pagamento digitali dei parcheggi, oppure del sistema intelligente On-Street Parking Information che raccomanda i quartieri della città in cui la probabilità di trovare un parcheggio libero è particolarmente elevata. L’optional Remote Parking permette di parcheggiare la BMW Serie 5 berlina attraverso il telecomando della chiave della vettura anche negli spazi più stretti. Una volta parcheggiata la vettura, BMW Connected aiuta anche a recarsi a piedi all’indirizzo della destinazione finale.

Le automobili BMW M Performance sono delle offerte esclusive della BMW M GmbH, posizionate tra i modelli top di gamma BMW e i modelli principali M, costruiti per offrire la più elevata performance. “Noi sviluppiamo le automobili BMW M Performance per i clienti particolarmente esigenti a livello di prestazioni di guida sportive, che però non sono disposti a rinunciare all’utilizzo giornaliero della loro BMW”, spiega Frank van Meel, presidente dell’amministrazione della BMW M GmbH. “Le esperienze e il know-how raccolti da BMW M nel mondo delle corse e nello sviluppo di automobili sportive ad alte prestazioni sfociano anche nello sviluppo delle automobili BMW M Performance.
