Un nouveau langage stylistique confère à la quatrième génération du Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) une présence extérieure nettement améliorée qui allie grâce et dynamisme. Des matériaux de haute qualité, une spécification de série beaucoup plus généreuse, une numérisation avancée et le nouveau BMW iDrive avec QuickSelect basé sur le système d'exploitation BMW 9 composent l’ambiance premium de l'habitacle conçu de manière évolutive. Le plaisir de conduire, la sécurité et le confort sur de longues distances de la nouvelle BMW X3 bénéficient également de la mise au point exceptionnelle de la configuration globale du véhicule et d’un large choix de systèmes de conduite et de stationnement semi-automatisés.

La nouvelle BMW X3 inaugure des améliorations majeures en matière d’efficacité et de performances dynamiques avec sa gamme étendue de modèles. La gamme de groupes motopropulseurs comprend des moteurs essence et diesel hautement efficients, mais aussi un système hybride rechargeable de dernière génération qui permet à la nouvelle BMW X3 30e xDrive (consommation, pondérée et combinée : 24,0 – 22,3 kWh/100 km et 1,1 – 0,9 l/100 km [256.8 – 313.9 mpg imp] ; émissions de CO₂, pondérées et combinées : 26 – 21 g/km en cycle WLTP ; consommation avec batterie vide : 7,9 – 7,2 l/100 km [35.8 – 39.2 mpg imp] en cycle WLTP ; classes de CO₂ : batterie vide G – F ; pondérée et mixte B) d’atteindre une autonomie électrique de 81 – 90 kilomètres (50 – 56 miles) en cycle WLTP. Avec une puissance de propulsion augmentée à 293 kW/398 ch et des performances dynamiques pour éclipser ses rivaux, le nouveau modèle BMW X3 M50 xDrive M Performance (consommation, cycle mixte : 8,3 – 7,7 l/ 100 km [34.0 – 36.7 mpg imp] ; émissions de CO₂, cycle mixte : 189 – 175 g/km en cycle WLTP ; les classes de CO₂ G – F) offre une proposition convaincante.

L’aura de modernité et la substance améliorée de la nouvelle édition constituent la base idéale pour ouvrir un nouveau chapitre de la success story de la BMW X3, qui a débuté il y a 20 ans. Depuis la création du segment SAV dans la catégorie des véhicules premium de taille moyenne, elle a contribué à la croissance constante de la popularité des modèles BMW X et est même devenue le modèle le plus vendu de la marque en 2023. La nouvelle BMW X3 sera construite dans les usines du Groupe BMW Spartanburg (États-Unis) et de Rosslyn (Afrique du Sud) selon un processus de production axé sur la conservation des ressources et la circularité. Son lancement commercial débutera en Europe et aux États-Unis au quatrième trimestre 2024 et progressera sur de nombreux autres marchés à partir de janvier 2025.

Le nouveau langage stylistique met en avant des proportions distinctives.

Un nouveau langage stylistique pour l'extérieur contribue à donner à la quatrième génération de la BMW X3 une apparence générale presque monolithique avec les proportions distinctives du modèle BMW X. Les surfaces généreusement proportionnées se combinent à quelques lignes précises pour produire un extérieur clairement structuré et réduit à l’essentiel. La nouvelle BMW X3 est 34 millimètres plus longue que son prédécesseur avec 4755 millimètres, tandis que sa largeur a augmenté de 29 millimètres pour atteindre 1920 millimètres. En combinaison avec une hauteur réduite de 25 millimètres à 1660 millimètres et les voies élargies, il en résulte un look très puissant et sportif.

La large calandre BMW à l'avant droit de la nouvelle BMW X3 lui confère une présence affirmée. Une nouvelle structure pour l’intérieur de la calandre, composée de barres disposées verticalement et en diagonale, apporte une touche de nouveauté. L'éclairage de contour BMW Iconic Glow en option forme une ligne continue autour de chaque élément de la calandre. Les feux de jour, les feux latéraux et les clignotants des phares à LED sont désormais tous produits par des sources lumineuses en forme de L qui se chevauchent. Les phares à LED adaptatifs avec feux de route matriciels non éblouissants, éclairage urbain et éclairage de virage, ainsi que les détails bleus du design sont disponibles en option, tout comme les phares M Shadowline.

Des jupes latérales audacieuses et une ligne de toit s’étendant jusqu’à l’arrière sont les caractéristiques distinctives de la silhouette sportive du nouveau modèle. Les passages de roue saillants créent une impression de largeur considérable à l’arrière. La lunette arrière affleurante est bordée d’un long becquet de toit et des déflecteurs d’air latéraux adjacents. Toutes les versions, à l’exception de la BMW X3 M50 xDrive, sont équipées de sorties d’échappement intégrées dans la jupe arrière. La nouvelle interprétation du graphique caractéristique en forme de T et une barre horizontale satinée avec clignotants intégrés contribuent à donner aux feux arrière un aspect très moderne.

Le choix entre une teinte unie et huit teintes métallisées est proposé pour la peinture extérieure de la nouvelle BMW X3, dont la nouvelle finition métallisée Dune Grey. Les modèles produits à l’usine Spartanburg de BMW Group seront également disponibles avec des finitions de peinture BMW Individual, dont deux options Frozen scintillantes mates.

La nouvelle BMW X3 est équipée de série de jantes en alliage léger de 18 pouces (BMW X3 30e xDrive : 19 pouces), avec une sélection de jantes de 20 et 21 pouces montées d’usine, également disponibles en option. Le pack M Sport en option crée un look exceptionnellement dynamique, avec des jantes M en alliage léger de 19 pouces et des éléments de design spéciaux pour optimiser le flux d’air et l’équilibre aérodynamique. Le pack M Sport Pro (standard pour la X3 M50) s’appuie sur ce contenu en ajoutant, entre autres, l’éclairage de contour Iconic Glow et les freins M Sport avec étriers peints en rouge.

Ambiance sportive haut de gamme et espace généreux.

L’habitacle de la nouvelle BMW X3 allie la fonctionnalité robuste d’un SAV à une habitabilité généreuse et une ambiance haut de gamme empreinte d’un style unique. Le BMW Curved Display, la barre d’interaction BMW, les volants à fond plat et le nouveau look du levier de changement de vitesse sont autant d’éléments qui définissent le design BMW emblématique axé sur le conducteur. Parmi les autres points forts spécifiques au modèle figurent des éléments lumineux de couleur contrastée dans la console centrale et les garnitures de porte. Ce nouveau design se situe à l’avant des portes conducteur et passager avant, où il forme une bordure autour des boutons de fonction, des commandes de la ventilation, des ouïes de ventilation et des robustes poignées de porte typiques des modèles BMW X.

L’ambiance de l’habitacle s’accompagne d’un espace généreux et d’une polyvalence moderne. L’espace de chargement peut être augmenté de 570 à 1700 litres maximum (BMW X3 30e xDrive : 460 – 1600 litres). Un attelage de remorque qui se déploie et se rétracte électriquement peut être spécifié en option. La charge maximale autorisée de la remorque est de 2500 kilogrammes, selon la variante du modèle.

La nouvelle BMW X3 est équipée de série de nouveaux sièges sport chauffants à réglage électrique et à revêtement Econeer, avec des surfaces et un rembourrage fabriqués à partir de matériaux secondaires. Les selleries en cuir Veganza et BMW Individual Merino sont toutes deux disponibles en option. Le tableau de bord Luxury en option fabriqué à partir de polyester recyclé, avec une texture tricotée haut de gamme, fait ses débuts sur un modèle BMW.

Hybride rechargeable avec une autonomie électrique nettement plus longue.

Le système d’entraînement de la BMW X3 30e xDrive hybride rechargeable est composé d’un moteur essence quatre cylindres de 2,0 litres associé à un moteur électrique intégré à la boîte de vitesses Steptronic à huit rapports. Ensemble, ils génèrent une puissance système allant jusqu’à 220 kW/299 ch.

Grâce à la technologie BMW eDrive de dernière génération et à la récupération adaptative, la nouvelle BMW X3 30e xDrive atteint une autonomie électrique de 81 à 90 kilomètres (50 à 56 miles) en cycle WLTP, considérablement plus longue que celle du modèle précédent. Son unité de charge combinée permet une charge AC de 11 kW de série.

La BMW X3 M50 xDrive aux performances remarquables.

Le modèle haut de gamme, la nouvelle BMW X3 M50 xDrive, est équipé du moteur essence six cylindres en ligne le plus puissant jamais monté sur un modèle M Performance. Le bloc M TwinPower Turbo de 3,0 litres est couplé à la technologie hybride légère 48 V. Sa puissance maximale de 293 kW/398 ch est transmise à la route via une boîte de vitesses sport Steptronic à huit rapports et la transmission intégrale intelligente BMW xDrive. La BMW X3 M50 xDrive atteint les 100 km/h (62 mph) départ-arrêté en 4,6 secondes.

Ce groupe motopropulseur incroyablement puissant s’associe à la technologie de châssis sur mesure pour offrir un mélange convaincant entre agilité, dynamisme, précision et maniabilité. La suspension M Sport avec direction sport variable, les freins M Sport, les jantes M en alliage léger de 20 pouces et le différentiel M Sport intégré à l’essieu arrière sont tous de série. Une suspension M adaptative avec amortisseurs à commande électronique est également disponible en option. Les éléments de design spécifiques au modèle M, la calandre M avec barres horizontales et l'éclairage de contour BMW Iconic Glow, ainsi que la quadruple sortie d'échappement soulignent le statut du modèle BMW M en tant que version la plus puissante de la nouvelle BMW X3.

Électrification systématique des moteurs essence et diesel, boîte de vitesses Steptronic à huit rapports et transmission intégrale BMW xDrive de série.

La technologie hybride légère 48 V confère également à toutes les autres variantes de la nouvelle BMW X3 une efficacité accrue et une puissance instantanée. Elle permet au moteur essence quatre cylindres de 2,0 litres de la nouvelle BMW X3 20 xDrive (consommation, cycle mixte : 7,6 – 6,9 l/100 km [37.2 – 40.9 mpg imp] ; émissions de CO₂, cycle mixte : 172 – 156 g/km en cycle WLTP, classe CO₂ : F) de générer une puissance maximale de 153 kW/208 ch. Cela se traduit par un temps d’accélération de 0 à 100 km/h (62 mph) de 7,8 secondes.

Le moteur diesel quatre cylindres, également d’une cylindrée de 2,0 litres, de la nouvelle BMW X3 20d xDrive (consommation, cycle mixte : 6,5 – 5,8 l/100 km [43.5 – 48.7 mpg imp] ; émissions de CO₂, cycle mixte : 171 – 153 g/km en cycle WLTP ; classes de CO₂ : F – E) affiche une puissance maximale de 145 kW/197 ch. Le modèle diesel complète le sprint de 0 à 100 km/h (62 mph) en 7,7 secondes. Un moteur diesel à six cylindres en ligne sera ajouté à la gamme de la nouvelle BMW X3 à l’été 2025.

Tous les groupes motopropulseurs sont associés à une boîte de vitesses Steptronic à huit rapports incluant des palettes de changement de vitesse au volant de série. Une fonction Sport Boost est également prévue pour des reprises exceptionnellement rapides sur les modèles équipés du pack M Sport ainsi que la nouvelle BMW X3 M50 xDrive. Toutes les variantes bénéficient également d’une distribution entièrement variable de la puissance motrice via le système de transmission intégrale intelligente BMW xDrive de série.

Une agilité et un confort de conduite de niveau supérieur.

Toutes les variantes de la nouvelle BMW X3 se distinguent par des qualités de conduite offrant une amélioration évidente de l’agilité, de la stabilité en virage et du confort sur de longues distances par rapport au modèle sortant. La caisse plus légère et plus rigide, ainsi que la voie arrière plus large y contribuent, tout comme les composants du châssis et les systèmes de contrôle conçus spécifiquement pour ce modèle. Les modifications apportées aux propriétés cinématiques et élastocinématiques de l'essieu avant à jambe de force à double articulation et de l'essieu arrière à cinq bras augmentent la précision dans les virages, tandis que l'augmentation de 19 pour cent du décalage de chasse de l'essieu directeur améliore nettement la stabilité en ligne droite. La limitation du patinage des roues près de l’actionneur et le système de freinage intégré font également partie du package standard de la technologie du châssis.

Les clients à la recherche de prouesses encore plus dynamiques peuvent choisir la suspension M Sport en option, avec direction Sport et freins M Sport (de série sur la nouvelle BMW X3 M50 xDrive). La suspension adaptative, également disponible dans la liste d’options, affine l’agilité de la nouvelle BMW X3 tout en améliorant le confort de conduite.

Driving Assistant et Parking Assistant de série.

La nouvelle BMW X3 offre un vaste éventail de systèmes de série et en option pour la conduite semi-automatisée et le stationnement. Elle est équipée de série de l’alerte de collision avant, de l’alerte de franchissement de ligne et du Speed Limit Info, ainsi que du Driving Assistant incluant l’alerte de changement de voie et le Speed Limit Assist manuel. Le système Parking Assistant (de série) intègre des fonctionnalités telles que l’aide à la marche arrière et une caméra de recul.

Les points forts de la gamme en option comprennent l’assistant de direction et de maintien dans la voie, ainsi que l’assistant de limitation de vitesse et de contrôle automatique de la vitesse lors de l’utilisation du régulateur de vitesse actif avec Stop&Go. Le Parking Assistant Professional en option permet de contrôler le stationnement et les manœuvres générales depuis l’extérieur de la voiture à l’aide d’un smartphone.

Une dotation de série plus généreuse pour un confort et un plaisir de conduite accrus.

Outre les systèmes d'aide supplémentaires, la dotation de série beaucoup plus généreuse par rapport au modèle sortant offre une multitude d'autres fonctionnalités qui contribuent à améliorer le confort et le plaisir de conduite de la nouvelle BMW X3. Celles-ci comprennent la climatisation automatique à trois zones, le vitrage acoustique, l'accès confort, le hayon automatique, le rabattement électrique des rétroviseurs extérieurs, un système d'alarme et le BMW Live Cockpit Plus équipé du système de navigation BMW Maps basé sur le cloud. La nouvelle BMW X3 est également équipée de série de l’éclairage d’ambiance avec animation Welcome and Goodbye, d’un chargeur sans fil pour les smartphones compatibles, d’une interface Bluetooth, de quatre ports USB-C, d’une prise 12 V dans la console centrale et d’une autre dans le compartiment à bagages.

Le BMW Live Cockpit Professional en option intègre l’affichage tête haute BMW, mais aussi la fonction Augmented View sur l’écran de contrôle. De plus, de nouveaux packs d’équipements sont disponibles pour une personnalisation ciblée de la voiture. Le pack Premium comprend le soutien lombaire, le système audio surround Harman Kardon, le système Travel & Comfort et les phares adaptatifs à LED. Le pack Confort ajoute des stores pare-soleil pour les vitres latérales arrière, la ventilation active des sièges à l’avant et le chauffage des sièges à l’arrière. On retrouve également dans la liste d’options un toit panoramique fixe en verre avec une grande surface transparente sans entretoises, un volant chauffant, un verre de protection solaire à l’arrière et une fonction de préchauffage. La nouvelle BMW X3 30e xDrive est quant à elle équipée du système BMW IconicSounds Electric pour des effets sonores spéciaux.

Système d’exploitation BMW 9, BMW iDrive avec QuickSelect et BMW Digital Premium.

La nouvelle BMW X3 est équipée de la dernière version du BMW iDrive avec QuickSelect pour un contrôle intuitif et facile. Le nouvel écran d’accueil affiche des icônes de fonction disposées verticalement au même niveau. La fonction QuickSelect permet d’activer des fonctions directement sans avoir à entrer dans un sous-menu. Le nouveau BMW iDrive est parfaitement adapté à la commande vocale et tactile. Il est basé sur le système d’exploitation BMW 9, qui ouvre également la voie à une sélection personnalisée de services numériques supplémentaires. Ceux-ci peuvent être mis à disposition par voie hertzienne, à la fois via les mises à niveau BMW ConnectedDrive et grâce à une variété sans cesse croissante d'applications tierces proposées dans le cadre du pack BMW Digital Premium en option.

L’intégration du smartphone avec Apple CarPlay® et Android Auto™ est disponible de série. Le BMW ID et l’application My BMW permettent à l’utilisateur de personnaliser son expérience à bord de la nouvelle BMW X3. Il est également possible d’utiliser l’application My BMW pour configurer le BMW Digital Key Plus avec technologie radio à bande ultra large pour les smartphones compatibles fonctionnant sous iOS ou Android ou pour une Apple Watch.

Munich/Miramas. At the end of series development, the new BMW X3 undergoes final tuning of all chassis control and driver assistance systems at the BMW Group test centre in Miramas, southern France. The fourth generation of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the premium mid-range vehicle segment will be presented in a few weeks' time with both highly efficient combustion engines and an advanced plug-in hybrid drive. The development and test engineers ensure that all model variants of the new BMW X3, regardless of drive concept and weight, demonstrate superior handling in every situation with an intensive tuning programme. The well-coordinated functionality of all automated driving and parking systems in the new BMW X3 also contributes to a harmonious customer experience.

The new BMW X3 has already undergone extensive testing on snow and ice, in extremely hot regions and off-road on its way to series production. The SAV's suitability for everyday use and travelling was tested and refined in urban stop-and-go traffic as well as on winding country roads, highways and selected race tracks.

Perfectly coordinated systems for a typical BMW driving experience.

The development engineers use the versatile test track in Miramas to put the finishing touches to the driving experience of the new BMW X3. In addition to an asphalt oval and a highway ring, there are also slalom, serpentine and circular tracks as well as off-road courses and handling courses with different road surfaces. This allows the longitudinal and lateral acceleration, suspension and damping, steering precision and braking behaviour of the new BMW X3 to be analysed and optimised down to the last detail.

The driving dynamics and efficiency of the new BMW X3 benefit from intelligent lightweight construction and optimised aerodynamic properties. With a drag coefficient (C_d) of 0.27, it sets new standards in its competitive environment.

Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW X3 also has a wider track and reduced lift at the rear axle. In addition, the rigidity of the body and the chassis connection has been increased. Targeted improvements to the kinematics and elastokinematics of both axles, combined with a 19 per cent increase in the caster of the front wheels, ensure noticeably improved directional stability. A more direct steering ratio enhances steering comfort, while extensively modified anti-roll bars improve cornering dynamics without compromising ride comfort.

An Adaptive Chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers is available as an option for the new BMW X3. The final tuning is part of the driving dynamics test at Miramas and offers two maps that can be selected via My Modes. In addition, the new version of the SAV comes as standard with the latest version of BMW Lateral Dynamics Management, which ensures precise control of the required steering torques, the actuator-based wheel slip limitation and the yaw torque distribution of Performance Control, adapted to the driving situation at all times.

Thanks to BMW's unique development expertise, all components and systems of the drive and chassis technology are perfectly matched. The result is the characteristic combination of precision, sovereignty and versatility that characterises the driving experience in a BMW SAV. 

Automated driving is also optimised by BMW's typical level of integration.

The new BMW X3 features the latest BMW iDrive based on the BMW Operating System 9 including BMW iDrive Controller and offers a significantly expanded selection of systems for automated driving and parking compared to the predecessor model. With its standard equipment, it clearly exceeds the requirements of the Euro NCAP safety test. The particularly sensitive braking and steering interventions of the assistance systems compared to the competition are another example of the unique integration performance of BMW riving dynamics development. They enable harmonious interaction between driver and vehicle in every situation.

The outstanding functionality of all assistance systems is based on state-of-the-art sensor technology as well as software, processor and network technology. Highlights in the new BMW X3 include the Active Lane Change Assistant and the Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant, which allows the driver to control manoeuvres from outside the vehicle using a smartphone.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. For the third time in a row, BMW M GmbH ended the financial year as the global market leader in the performance and high-performance car segment. Indeed, the company posted record sales once again in 2021. A total of 163,542 BMW M cars were delivered to customers worldwide last year, a 13 percent increase on 2020.

This growth was spread equally between the High-Performance sports cars and Performance cars made by BMW M GmbH, with both product categories raising their sales figures to a new level. “This success is the perfect start to our anniversary year,” says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “M is in a stronger position than ever as it celebrates its 50th birthday.”

New BMW M3 and new BMW M4 enjoy immediate success.

The biggest drivers of growth among the High-Performance sports cars were the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 models introduced in spring 2021. Fuelled by a vehicle concept focused squarely on emotionally charged dynamism and unprecedented diversity in the model range, the new BMW M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.0 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.3 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 231 – 227 g/km as per WLTP), new BMW M4 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.0 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 230 – 226 g/km as per WLTP) and new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 l/100 km [27.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 233 – 231 g/km as per WLTP) got off to an extremely successful start. The latest model generation is the first to offer customers two output levels topping out at 375 kW/510 hp, the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of either a six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

“The response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been simply overwhelming,” reports Timo Resch, Vice President Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “We can therefore expect demand for these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022.”

Also making a powerful contribution to the latest rise in High-Performance model sales at BMW M GmbH were the BMW X5 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.6 – 13.3 l/100 km [20.8 – 21,2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 308 – 303 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km [21.1 – 21.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 305 – 299 g/km as per WLTP). Following the successful market launch of the latest model generation the previous year, the charismatic High-Performance sports cars in the Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segment – both powered by a 460 kW/625 hp V8 engine – increased their sales figures once again in 2021.

Alluring and in demand: the BMW M models in the BMW 4 Series range.

The dynamic excellence, agility and precision for which M is renowned also enabled the brand’s Performance models to delight and excite a wide range of customers over the past year. Credit for the latest boost to sales goes above all to the M models based on the new BMW 4 Series. Particularly popular were the variants of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé, whose line-up consists of the BMW M440i Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.1 – 7.4 l/100 km [34.8 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 184 – 167 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW M440i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.5 l/100 km [34.5 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 186 – 170 g/km as per WLTP) powered by a 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, and the BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km [44.8 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 165 – 150 g/km as per WLTP), whose six-cylinder in-line diesel unit produces 250 kW/340 hp.

The latest BMW X models within the ranks of M’s Performance cars also proved extremely desirable. Indeed, the BMW X3 M40i powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with 265 kW/360 hp (fuel consumption combined: 9.5 – 8.8 l/100 km [29.7 – 32.1 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 216 – 199 g/km as per WLTP) and the BMW X7 M50i (fuel consumption combined: 12.8 – 12.3 l/100 km [22.1 – 23.0 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 292 – 280 g/km as per WLTP) with its 390 kW/530 hp V8 unit both posted an increase in new registrations.

Looking ahead to an anniversary year brimming with highlights.

BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive in this anniversary year with the addition of new High-Performance and Performance models. Highlights include the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) and the arrival later in the year of the first BMW M3 Touring and an exclusive special-edition model based on the new BMW M4 Coupé.

In addition, the BMW Group subsidiary – which was founded as BMW Motorsport GmbH in May 1972 and enjoys the status of an independent manufacturer – will also drive the transformation to electric mobility. Following in the tyre tracks of the BMW i4 M50 (electric power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km) in the first half of 2022 will be the likewise fully electric BMW iX M60 (projected electric power consumption combined: 24.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km as per WLTP; CO₂ emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The most powerful BMW M model ever made points the way to the future of the brand.

The anniversary year will be crowned by the start of production of the BMW XM. The most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production is also the brand’s first High-Performance model to employ a plug-in hybrid drive system. Its newly developed M Hybrid technology brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The design of the BMW XM majors on presence and extrovert appeal and in so doing sends out a clear statement in the luxury segment.

“Our first standalone model since the legendary BMW M1 represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says van Meel. “The BMW XM blends expressive design and progressive interior luxury with an incomparable driving experience that serves up both sublime performance and the ability to glide along in near silence in all-electric mode. In so doing, it provides an inimitable expression of poise and assurance, and at the same time points the way to the future of our brand.”

Munich. The sales launch of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 in November 2021 marks the beginning of a new era of purely electric premium mobility. In addition to sustainable driving pleasure, the two new models also offer the latest innovations in the field of driver assistance systems and, with the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system, represent the future of intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. Parallel to this, the BMW model range will also undergo targeted further development in autumn 2021. Additional drive variants and innovations in the areas of design and digital services increase the diversity and attractiveness of the current range.

The model range of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will be expanded by three new drive variants from November 2021. In future, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission will be standard equipment for one additional model variant each of the BMW X1 and the BMW X2. New paint finishes are available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 models. The functional scope of the My BMW App is complemented by further digital services. The BMW i brand is not only setting trends with its two new models. The pioneer of all-electric premium mobility, the BMW i3, will be offered in a limited Unique Forever Edition from November 2021. And in the BMW iX3, a predictive battery heat management system will optimise the way in which DC fast charging stations will be used in the future.

BMW 4 Series Convertible: Two additional BMW M automobiles and a further all-wheel drive model.
The combination of sporty performance and open-air pleasure in a BMW 4 Series model will be enriched even further in autumn 2021. In the new BMW M 440i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 190 - 175 g/km according to WLTP), a 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensures particularly purist driving pleasure by transferring its power to the rear wheels. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential in the final drive also contribute to the thrilling driving dynamics as standard. This is reflected, among other things, by accerlation from 0 - 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

An inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system make the second new BMW M automobile a thrilling open-top drive. With a peak output of 250 kW/340 hp, a maximum torque of 700 Nm and 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the new BMW M440d xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 172 - 157 g/km according to WLTP) has impressive pulling power. 5.0 seconds are sufficient for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential are also standard equipment in this model variant.

In addition, the model range for the open-top four-seater in the premium mid-size segment is expanded to include the new BMW 430i xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 – 7.3 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 183 - 166 g/km according to WLTP). With its 180 kW/245 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and the M sports differential are optionally available for this model.

BMW X1 xDrive18d and BMW X2 xDrive18d now feature 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Driving pleasure and comfort will be enhanced in autumn 2021 as the 8-speed Steptronic transmission is included in further model variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 as standard. The fast and efficient automatic transmission is characterised by a high level of shifting comfort and a particularly favourable internal efficiency. In future, it will also be available as standard with the 110 kW/150 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine of the BMW X1 xDrive18d models (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 142 g/km according to WLTP) and the BMW X2 xDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 142 g/km according to WLTP).

With the new drive combination, both models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. An optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available, operated by paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

New paint finishes for numerous model series.
New paint finishes for numerous current BMW models allow for additional customisation opportunities. The Skyscraper Grey metallic variant will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 from November 2021. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as Aventurine Red metallic for the BMW X3 and the BMW X4.

My BMW App with extended range of functions.
Planning travel routes and transferring them to the car, receiving information about the car’ status and live images from its surroundings, arranging service appointments or receiving news from the brand - the My BMW app makes all this possible on the customer's smartphone. It serves as a universal interface for communication between car and customer, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. The range of functions of the My BMW App will be expanded again in autumn 2021. In future, for example, the images transmitted by the Remote 3D View service will be stored in a gallery, including information about the location and time of the shots. The status of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation is now also clearly displayed in the My BMW app.

In addition, the My BMW app now also provides drivers with comprehensive information on the condition of the vehicle's tyres on their smartphone. This new feature helps to minimise the risk of breakdowns and is available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4 as well as the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. The My BMW app displays the wheel-specific values as measured by the tyre pressure system. In addition, the digital tyre diagnosis, which is unique in the competitive environment, can also transmit information about a defect or wear of the tyres via the My BMW app. In the BMW backend, the data from the tyre pressure control system is processed together with the values for temperature and wheel speeds to create a forecast of the remaining life of the tyres. As a supplement to tyre pressure control, indications of tyre damage are also registered.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW iX3.
To ensure the fastest and most efficient power feed at DC fast-charging stations, regardless of operating and outside temperatures, the BMW iX3 (combined power consumption: 19.0 - 18.6 L/100 km according to WLTP, 18.5 - 18.9 L/100 km according to NEDC) will be equipped with intelligent thermal management for the high-voltage battery as in the BMW i4 / BMW iX from November 2021. As soon as the active route guidance of the navigation system foresees a stopover at a High Power Charging Station, it already ensures that the battery is automatically preconditioned before arrival.

The appropriate heating or cooling ensures that the high-voltage battery is at the ideal temperature for charging at maximum power on arrival. The thermal management takes into account, among other things, the battery temperature, the remaining range, the predicted charging power and the planned scope of the charging process as part of the overall route calculation.

BMW i3 and BMW i3s in the Unique Forever Edition.
From November 2021, the BMW i3 models (combined electricity consumption: 16.3 - 15.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 13.1 L/100 km according to NEDC and BMW i3s (combined electricity consumption: 16.6 - 16.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 14.6 - 14.0 L/100 km according to NEDC) in the Unique Forever Edition. The naming of the new special edition refers to the unique character of the world's first premium automobile designed from the outset for purely electric mobility. The BMW i3 represents a holistic understanding of sustainability not only with its drive system, but also with its particularly lightweight passenger cell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and extensive use of natural and recycled materials in its interior. Eight years after being launched on the market, it is still a globally recognised symbol of locally emission-free urban mobility.

The edition vehicles are characterised by particularly high-grade and exclusive design and equipment features. The two BMW Individual paint finishes, available for the first time for the BMW i3, ensure a stylish appearance. The Aventurine Red metallic variant is combined with an accent in Frozen Grey metallic and the Storm Bay metallic paint finish with an accent in Frozen E-Copper. The interior surfaces of the BMW grille are also finished in the respective accent colour. Other special features include the omission of the trim strip and model lettering on the luggage compartment lid and a black insert for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the Suite equipment world - including the Vernasca Dark Truffle leather combination, the leather instrument panel, the fine wood surface in dark matt oak, the leather steering wheel, the Carum grey roof lining and the ambient lighting - are supplemented by specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the words "Unique Forever", the door trim panels in the area of the exterior mirrors bear the inscription "One of 2,000“.

The Unique Forever Edition models are produced in a limited edition of 2,000 units at the BMW plant in Leipzig. Only electricity generated by the wind turbines on the factory premises is used.

Plus sportives, plus modernes et plus numériques. Pour la deuxième phase du cycle du modèle, BMW a actualisé son Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) BMW et le Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) BMW avec un nouveau look, un équipement amélioré et une gamme optimisée. La partie avant redessinée et la partie arrière révisée soulignent encore plus le look tout-terrain robuste et sportif de la BMW X3 de troisième génération. Son homologue coupé, la BMW X4 de deuxième génération, adopte la nouvelle face avant, ajoute sa propre accentuation aux naseaux à maillage exclusifs BMW et offre une face arrière particulièrement dynamique. Le restylage est complété par un intérieur moderne avec de nouveaux équipements et un infodivertissement mis à jour. BMW M GmbH met également à niveau les modèles M de la BMW X3 et de la BMW X4 en même temps (voir ici).

Une technologie d’entraînement moderne et une structure de produit plus claire.

L’introduction d’une technologie hybride légère avec générateur-démarreur de 48 volts désormais associée à tous les moteurs essence garantit une large gamme de motorisations à la pointe de la technologie. Celles-ci incluent la BMW X3 xDrive30e (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte, pondérée : 2,6 – 2,0 l/100 km selon WLTP ; consommation électrique mixte, pondérée : 20,5 – 18,9 kWh/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte, pondérées : 59 – 45 g/km selon WLTP) et, au sommet de la gamme, des modèles essence et diesel de BMW M GmbH particulièrement performants. En Allemagne, toutes les BMW X3 et BMW X4 sont équipées de série du système de transmission intégrale BMW xDrive. Une nouvelle structure de gamme garantit une plus grande concentration sur la sportivité et la « X-ness » ainsi qu’une clarté accrue grâce à une réduction délibérée. Le pack M sport et les variantes M familières sont disponibles en alternative à l’équipement de série enrichi d’éléments X de haute qualité. La mise sur le marché débutera à l’été 2021, après le lancement de la production à l’usine de Spartanburg (USA) en août 2021. La nouvelle BMW X3 et la nouvelle BMW X4 seront présentées en première mondiale au Salon de l’automobile de Chengdu en Chine (27 août au 5 septembre), tandis que la première européenne aura lieu à l’IAA de Munich (7 au 12 septembre).

BMW X3 avec éléments X classiques et gènes sportifs.

La nouvelle BMW X3 présente un aspect plus moderne qui exprime une présence plus puissante, avec des changements apportés au niveau du design avant et arrière, et l’accent mis sur les éléments X classiques. La calandre et les phares BMW ont été redessinés avec la jupe avant et le pare-chocs arrière, tandis que de nouveaux graphismes ont été appliqués aux feux arrière. Les éléments X de haute qualité tels que la protection du soubassement et les jupes latérales spécifiques dans le style de la précédente X Line sont déjà de série. Les gènes sportifs du Sports Activity Vehicle sont soulignés par le pack M sport et la BMW X3 M40i (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 9,5 – 8,8 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 216 – 199 g/km selon WLTP) et la BMW X3 M40d (consommation en cycle mixte : 7,3 – 6,6 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 192 – 173 g/km en WLTP).

Nouveaux naseaux BMW et phares plus plats.

Avec les nouveaux naseaux BMW, des phares plus plats d’une dizaine de millimètres et la nouvelle jupe avant, la BMW X3 a presque l’air d’un modèle inédit. De forme plus saisissante, notamment dans la partie supérieure, les naseaux BMW sont plus larges qu’auparavant et comportent désormais un cadre monobloc. Une barre noire dans laquelle la iCam est positionnée, si spécifiée, sépare visuellement les naseaux. Les phares avant sont équipés de série de la technologie full LED. Outre les phares adaptatifs à LED avec fonction Matrix en option, les feux de mauvais temps reprenant la fonction des feux antibrouillards auparavant séparés, le BMW Laser Light d’une portée maximale de 650 mètres est désormais disponible en option.

Jupe avant et jupe arrière redessinées.

Sous les phares, des prises d’air verticales disposées selon une configuration triangulaire encadrent le pare-chocs avant. Dans la nouvelle jupe avant, les surfaces tendues et de grande taille en teinte de carrosserie et la protection robuste du soubassement renforcent la présence et l'aura de haute qualité du SAV. La BMW X3 xDrive30e à propulsion hybride rechargeable arbore également un emblème « electrified by i » sur l’aile avant, tandis qu’un anneau bleu supplémentaire orne tous les logos BMW de cette version moteur, y compris ceux des enjoliveurs de roues. La partie arrière de la nouvelle BMW X3 offre une plus grande clarté grâce à diverses mesures. Une bordure noire donne aux feux arrière full LED un aspect plus précis, tandis que le graphisme lumineux plus étroit comprend désormais un contour modelé en trois dimensions et des clignotants horizontaux intégrés dans un style filigrane. L’accent mis sur les lignes horizontales, par exemple dans la zone concave à l’extrémité inférieure du hayon, contribue à l’impression de netteté de l’arrière. La protection du soubassement nouvellement conçue et soigneusement peinte offre une finition puissante sur la route. Les nouvelles sorties d’échappement affleurantes et de forme libre sont plus larges et plus sportives, conférant au modèle une présence plus puissante.

Pack M sport avec détails extérieurs spécifiques.

Le pack M sport offre à la BMW X3 une orientation plus sportive. La jupe avant spécifique comprend des prises d’air et des inserts nettement plus larges en finition noir brillant, ainsi que des Air Curtains plus prononcés. Le graphisme des vitres, des rails de toit ainsi que le cadre et les barres BMW sont disponibles en option en noir brillant. Le pare-chocs arrière plus sportif comprend un diffuseur plus saisissant en finition Dark Shadow ainsi que deux panneaux latéraux Air Curtain en noir brillant. La finition de série comprend les nouvelles jantes en alliage 19 pouces 887M à rayons en Y en Midnight Grey Bicolor avec pneus 245/50 R19. Des jantes supplémentaires de 20 et 21 pouces sont disponibles en option, ainsi que le frein sport M avec étriers de frein bleus ou rouges.

Autres insignes M dans les modèles M Performance.

La BMW X3 M40i et la BMW X3 M40d affichent clairement leur appartenance à la gamme BMW M GmbH grâce à leurs naseaux spécifiques des BMW M. Outre un cadre chromé, ils arborent les doubles barres M typiques en noir brillant et portent un logo M. Même si les jupes du pack M sport sont reprises à l’avant et à l’arrière, les rétroviseurs extérieurs M en noir brillant, optimisés sur le plan aérodynamique, les sorties d’échappement à forme libre en chrome noir et le design saisissant « Two Teeth » assurent un look distinctif. Les BMW X3 M40i et BMW X3 M40d sont équipées de série de jantes BMW M en alliage léger 699M à doubles rayons 20 pouces en Orbit Grey, avec pneus mixtes 245/45 R20 à l’avant et 275/40 R20 à l’arrière. En option, ces jantes sont disponibles en Jet Black, tandis que d’autres options exclusives incluent les jantes BMW M en alliage léger 718M à doubles rayons de 21 pouces en Jet Black poli.

Les naseaux BMW à maillage font partie des éléments distinctifs exclusifs de la BMW X4.

La BMW X4 adopte la nouvelle face avant de la BMW X3, mais ajoute une caractéristique exclusive sous la forme des naseaux à maillage présents sur les autres modèles BMW sport. Par rapport à la BMW X3, les phares adaptatifs à LED avec fonction Matrix sont déjà de série, tandis que le BMW Laser Light, particulièrement lumineux et de longue portée, est également disponible en option sur la BMW X4. Avec des feux arrière plats entièrement à LED qui soulignent la largeur du véhicule et dépassent de manière frappante du véhicule dans un design tridimensionnel, la section arrière présente désormais une forme encore plus nette dans la révision de la BMW X4. La nouvelle jupe arrière présente un aspect plus net, avec une proportion accrue de surface peinte et les réflecteurs désormais placés verticalement et plus bas dans le pare-chocs. Les larges sorties d’échappement à forme libre font écho aux lignes horizontales de la partie supérieure.

Pack M sport avec jupe arrière marquante sur la BMW X4.

À partir du pack M sport, la BMW X4 est équipée de naseaux à maillage BMW dont le cadre et les inserts sont peints en noir brillant sur demande, ainsi que d’une nouvelle jupe arrière avec un large insert décalé en forme d’enclume. À l’instar des panneaux latéraux Air Curtain, la finition est en noir brillant et donne l’impression d’un véhicule puissant, taillé pour la route. Comme sur la BMW X3, le pack M Sport de série inclut les nouvelles jantes en alliage 19 pouces 887M à rayons Y en Midnight Grey Bicolor avec pneus 245/50 R19. Des jantes supplémentaires de 20 et 21 pouces et le frein M sport sont disponibles en option.

Insignes BMW M pour les BMW X4 M40i et BMW X4 M40d.

La BMW X4 M40i (consommation en cycle mixte : 9,5 – 8,7 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 215 – 198 g/km selon WLTP) et la BMW X4 M40d (consommation en cycle mixte : 7,3 – 6,6 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 190 – 171 g/km selon WLTP) sont basées sur l’apparence et l’équipement de série des modèles X3 correspondants et, comme ceux-ci, arborent les insignes typiques de la BMW M, tels que la calandre BMW M avec cadre chromé, les doubles barres en noir brillant et le logo M ainsi que les rétroviseurs extérieurs M en noir brillant, optimisés sur le plan aérodynamique. La jupe arrière avec son insert en forme d’enclume est complétée par une garniture Air Curtain en noir brillant. Comme pour la BMW X3 M40i et la BMW X3 M40d, les sorties d’échappement à forme libre sont en chrome noir avec les deux « dents » et les pneus.

Onze teintes extérieures pour la BMW X3 et une teinte exclusive pour la BMW X4.

Avec le restylage de la BMW X3, BMW propose un total de onze teintes de carrosserie dans la gamme standard. La teinte métallisée Skyscraper Grey (à partir de 12/21) est nouvelle, tout comme la teinte M Brooklyn Grey metallic du pack M sport, ainsi que les deux teintes BMW Individual Aventurine Red et Tanzanite Blue. La nouvelle teinte métallisée Piedmont Red est disponible exclusivement pour la BMW X4. Pour la première fois, les deux modèles sont également assortis de nombreuses teintes extérieures spéciales BMW Individual, dont des teintes mates telle que Frozen Deep Grey. La gamme de teintes spéciales sera étendue à l’avenir.

La nouvelle BMW X3 et la nouvelle BMW X4 adoptent la console centrale de l’actuelle BMW Série 4. L’écran de commande central autonome avec fonction tactile offre désormais une diagonale d’écran de 10,25 pouces de série sur tous les véhicules. Une version 12,3 pouces de l'écran tactile est également disponible en option. L’équipement de série considérablement amélioré comprend désormais des sièges sport avec garnissage Sensatec nouvelle génération dans le nouveau grain Ray et les principales surfaces de siège perforées, ainsi qu’une climatisation automatique à 3 zones.

Afin de rendre la configuration du véhicule plus claire et plus simple pour les clients, notamment en réduisant le nombre de conflits de configuration, la complexité des gammes d’équipements et d’options a été volontairement réduite de 30 %. Outre le porte-gobelet et un emblème spécifique au modèle, la console centrale accueille le nouvel îlot de commande avec le levier de vitesse, les boutons du système start/stop, le frein de stationnement électrique, le Hill Descent Control et diverses fonctions de conduite ainsi que le BMW Controller.

Le bouton de démarrage du moteur y est également placé. Les nouveaux éléments de garniture électroplaqués sur les ouïes d’aération ajoutent une touche d’élégance tout en soulignant les lignes horizontales de l’habitacle. Des fonctions supplémentaires sont proposées par l’éclairage d’ambiance en option, qui comprend un éclairage de contour au-dessus de la garniture du tableau de bord et un éclairage d’ambiance plus doux orienté vers la finition inférieure pour créer une atmosphère particulièrement sereine et haut de gamme.

Technologie hybride pour tous les moteurs.

La nouvelle BMW X3 et la nouvelle BMW X4 démontrent une électrification croissante grâce à une technologie hybride ultra moderne appliquée aux sept systèmes moteurs disponibles en Allemagne. Outre la BMW X3 xDrive30e hybride rechargeable, en production depuis décembre 2019, tous les moteurs 4 et 6 cylindres des deux séries de modèles utilisent désormais une technologie hybride légère de 48 volts.

Après la conversion en 2020 des trois moteurs diesel en un système hybride léger, les trois moteurs essence sont désormais équipés de cette technologie comprenant un générateur-démarreur de 48 volts, garantissant des performances encore meilleures avec une consommation de carburant réduite et un confort de conduite accru. Les modèles essence sont la BMW X3 xDrive20i (consommation en cycle mixte : 8,4 – 7,6 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 192 – 172 g/km selon WLTP) et la BMW X4 xDrive20i (consommation en cycle mixte : 8,4 – 7,5 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 190 – 170 g/km selon WLTP) avec 135 kW/184 ch, la BMW X3 xDrive30i (consommation en cycle mixte : 8,5 – 7,6 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 194 – 173 g/km selon WLTP) et la BMW X4 xDrive30i (consommation en cycle mixte : 8,5 – 7,5 l/100 km selon WLTP ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 192 – 171 g/km selon WLTP) avec 180 kW/245 ch et les BMW X3 M40i et BMW X4 M40i de 265 kW/360 ch.

Hybride rechargeable avec une autonomie électrique pouvant atteindre 50 km.

La BMW X3 xDrive30e hybride rechargeable est un modèle « Sports Activity Vehicle ». Son système se compose d’un moteur essence 4 cylindres combiné à un moteur électrique dont la puissance est transmise aux quatre roues. Leur puissance combinée de 215 kW/292 ch peut être augmentée de 30 kW/41 ch en utilisant temporairement la puissance maximale du moteur électrique. Le système dispose d'une batterie lithium-ion haute tension qui permet une autonomie maximale de 50 km.

Boîte de vitesses Steptronic à 8 rapports et BMW xDrive de série.

Toutes les versions de moteur sont associées à des boîtes de vitesses Steptronic à 8 rapports spécialement adaptées aux caractéristiques de chaque moteur. La BMW X3 M40i, la BMW X3 M40d et tous les modèles BMW X4 sont équipés de série de la boîte de vitesses Steptronic Sport à 8 rapports, comprenant les palettes de changement de vitesse et le Launch Control. La transmission intégrale BMW xDrive contribue de manière significative à la sportivité tout en polyvalence des BMW X3 et BMW X4. Son contrôle électronique précis assure une distribution de la puissance particulièrement sportive et caractéristique de la marque. BMW Live Cockpit Plus avec écran 10,25 pouces de série.

BMW Maps est l’une des innovations les plus importantes dans le domaine des services numériques. Le système basé sur le cloud permet une amélioration significative des performances, un haut degré de précision et une saisie simplifiée des destinations. Le système de navigation de nouvelle génération offre un calcul rapide et précis de l’itinéraire basé sur les données de circulation en temps réel mises à jour à intervalles brefs. En outre, BMW Maps avec Connected Parking offre aux conducteurs un soutien encore plus détaillé dans la recherche d’un emplacement libre à proximité de leur destination.

BMW Live Cockpit Plus et BMW Live Cockpit Professional offrent une intégration sans fil optimisée des smartphones via Apple CarPlay. With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

New body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. From the spring of 2020, BMW will contribute towards a further reduction of consumption levels and the optimisation of the emission performance of current models through the use of systematically evolved drive technology. In parallel with the expansion of the range of models featuring all-electric and plug-in hybrid drive scheduled to follow during the course of the year, both the efficiency and the exhaust emission quality of petrol-driven vehicles will be significantly increased.  This is ensured, inter alia, by innovative mild hybrid technology which, following the BMW 5 Series, will as from March/April also be deployed in the BMW 3 Series as well as the model series BMW X3 and BMW X4. At the same time, in the spring of 2020, 33 further BMW models will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not become obligatory until 2021. 

A further drive variant for the BMW 1 Series as well as additional engines for the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring will enhance the diversity of available options in the premium compact and premium midrange segment. Additional options for interior design provide for greater individuality in the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

Electric pulling power for efficiency and dynamics: Mild hybrid technology with 48-volt starter generator for further models.  

BMW is extending the use of mild hybrid technology to further models. This innovation, first introduced in the autumn of 2019 forthe four model variants of the BMW 520d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 128 – 108 g/km), comprises an extremely powerful 48-volt starter generator as well as an additional battery, and enhances both efficiency and dynamics of vehicles equipped with this technology. As from the spring of 2020, mild hybrid technology will also be featured as standard in the models BMW 320d Sedan (automatic transmission) (combined fuel consumption: 4.1 – 4.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 107 – 105 g/km), the BMW 320d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.3 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 109 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.4 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 117 – 114 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 119 – 117 g/km), the BMW X3 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 134 – 126 g/km) and the BMW X4 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 133 – 125 g/km).

Mild hybrid technology provides significantly greater possibilities to make use of brake energy recuperation. The energy recuperated when accelerating and braking is not only used to provide electrically powered vehicle functions with energy but also to generate additional drive power. The 48-volt starter generator delivers an additional power output of up to 8 kW/11 hp. The electric over-boost is made available very spontaneously, thus enhancing dynamics when starting off and accelerating from a standstill.  During the journey, the electric over-boost can be used to support the combustion engine, enabling it to run as frequently as possible within an efficiency-optimised load range and to reduce consumption peaks. Moreover, when driving within inefficient operational ranges, it is possible to supply the 48-volt battery with additional energy from the starter generator by raising the load point when required.  

Furthermore, the 48-volt starter generator provides for exceptionally smooth switching off as well as a faster and thus more comfortable re-starting of the combustion engine when the Auto Start Stop function is used at road junctions or in traffic jams. When the vehicle decelerates, the combustion engine can be disconnected at a speed of less than 15 km/h. The kinetic energy gained when decelerating further to a standstill is then used for recuperation. The efficiencyenhancing effect of the “coasting” function has also been optimised. At a speed of up to 160 km/h, the combustion engine is no longer switched into idle mode but is completely disconnected. During the journey, engine re-start is also fast and comfortable. The optimised “coasting” function is available both in the COMFORT and ECOPRO modes of the Driving Experience Switch.

Optimised emission performance: 40 BMW models now already fulfil the future Euro 6d emission standard.

With yet a further optimisation of the emission performance of numerous models, BMW is preparing well in advance for future legal requirements governing exhaust emissions. As from the spring of 2020, 33 further models from various model series will fulfil the Euro 6d exhaust emission standard. Consequently, 40 BMW models comply with the demands specified by the more stringent standard a year prior to the new emission regulation coming into force. 

The vehicles that will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard as from the spring of 2020 include model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 3 Series as well as the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and the BMW X6.

New drive variants for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring. Starting in March 2020, additional drive variants will increase the diversity of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series model range. The BMW 120d (combined fuel consumption: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 121 – 112 g/km) will be added to the model range in the premium compact segment. The power generated by the car’s 2-litre, 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel power unit featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing the new BMW 120d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 231 km/h. The new BMW 120d is one of the models that already fulfil the Euro 6d emission standard. 

The engines of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be expanded with a 216d diesel engine.

A new four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 2 litres and BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology complements the drive portfolio for the new BMW 3 Series. Next to to that an 316d diesel engine will be added for the BMW 3 Series Sedan. The power unit for the new BMW 318i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.7 – 5.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 130 – 120 g/km) and the new BMW 318i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 140 – 130 g/km) delivers a maximum power output of 115 kW/156 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The standard equipment range for the new BMW 3 Series entry model includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ is 8.4 seconds for the Sedan and 8.7 seconds for the Touring model. Top speed is 223 km/h (BMW 318i Sedan) and 220 km/h (BMW 318i Touring) respectively.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with extended standard configuration, additional offer of leather options and interior trims for the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

From March 2020, a broader range of standard features will enhance comfort in the luxury-class models of the BMW 7 Series and the BMW 8 Series. In future, BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars as well as the high-performance models BMW M8 Competition Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 242 g/km), BMW M8 Competition Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 246 g/km) and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 244 g/km) will be equipped with an automatic soft-close function for the doors.

Thanks to a wider selection of leather options and interior trims, there are now new possibilities to individualise the models BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. As from April, the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour combination Canberra Beige/Black is additionally available for these three models. In future, the BMW X6 can be ordered with the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Cognac/Black. Likewise available for the Sports Activity Coupe are the extended BMW Individual leather options Merino in the colour combinations Tartufo/Black, Ivory White/Black and Ivory White/Night Blue/Black as well as the BMW Individual all-leather interior trim Merino in the colour combinations Coffee/Black and Tartufo/Black. Also new in the range of options for the BMW X6: High-grade Poplar Grain, Anthracite-Brown, open-pored.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. The figures are calculated using a vehicle fitted with basic equipment in Germany, the ranges stated take into account differences in selected wheel and tyre sizes as well as the optional equipment. They may change during configuration.

The figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle and adapted to NEDC for comparison purposes. In these vehicles, different figures than those published here may apply for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions.

Munich. The unique combination of intelligent all-wheel drive BMW xDrive and cutting-edge BMW eDrive technology makes for sustainable driving pleasure in another BMW model. The new BMW X3 xDrive30e is already the third Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the brand's current model range to feature a plug-in hybrid drive and power transmission to all four wheels, offering exciting versatility and a purely electric driving experience as well as outstandingly low fuel consumption and emissions. Together, the 4-cylinder combustion engine and the electric motor of the plug-in hybrid model generate a maximum system output of 215 kW/292 hp. The unique combination of the intelligent 4-wheel drive system BMW xDrive and state-of-the-art BMW eDrive technology reduces average fuel consumption to levels between 2.4 and 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres*. The relevant CO₂ emissions amount to 54 to 49 grams per kilometre*. The combined power consumption of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is between 17.2 and 16.4 kWh per 100 kilometres*. Its lithium-ion high-voltage battery equipped with the very latest battery cell technology enables purely electric mobility with a range of 51 to 55 kilometres*.

The new BMW X3 xDrive30e will be produced from December 2019 onwards at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, USA – alongside the conventionally powered model variants of the BMW X3. The worldwide market launch is due to start in spring 2020. In this way, the BMW Group is consistently pursuing not only the electrification of its drive portfolio but also a product strategy geared towards the diverse needs of its customers. The globally popular SAV model in the premium mid-range segment is the first model of the brand to be offered with both a conventional combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid system – with a purely electrically powered model variant due to be added during the course 2020.

Sports Activity Vehicle with agile handling, superior off-road performance and outstanding efficiency.

The new BMW X3 xDrive30e combines the typical qualities of a Sports Activity Vehicle with particularly efficient drive technology. The plug-in hybrid model is likewise characterised by agile handling and sporty driving characteristics, robust versatility, a versatile interior, premium quality and advanced connectivity. Its BMW xDrive system permanently distributes the drive torque between the front and rear wheels as required – even when driving purely on electric power – so as to ensure sporty driving characteristics on the road and superior off-road performance over unsurfaced terrain. The drive power is generated by a 2.0-litre, 135 kW/184 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission with an output of 80 kW/109 hp. Together the two drive units mobilise a system output of 215 kW/292 hp. The maximum system torque of the plug-in hybrid drive is 420 Nm. This allows the new BMW X3 xDrive30e to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Its top speed is 210 km/h.

Depending on the operating mode and the situation on the road, the electric motor of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e can be used either for purely electric mobility or to support the combustion engine. In MAX eDrive mode, which can be activated via the eDrive button on the centre console, the new BMW X3 xDrive30e achieves a top speed of 135 km/h with a locally emissions-free and virtually silent drive unit. In the standard Auto eDrive setting, purely electric driving is possible at speeds of up to 110 km/h. The combustion engine only switches on at higher speeds or when there are particularly high load requirements. When both drive units are active, the efficiency of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is optimised, as is its sprint capacity. When accelerating, the spontaneous power development of the electric motor is clearly noticeable, while at constant speeds its electric assist reduces fuel consumption and emissions. The support of the electric motor ensures that the combustion engine can run within an efficiency-optimised load range as often as possible. The likewise available BATTERY CONTROL setting serves to keep the charge state of the high-voltage battery at a level determined by the driver. In this way, the power supply can be specifically reserved and used for local emissions-free driving on urban stretches of road during a lengthier trip.

High-voltage battery based on the very latest battery cell technology for maximum efficiency; large, variable luggage compartment.

The lithium-ion battery of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is located in a space-saving position underneath the rear seat, while the fuel tank is positioned above the rear axle. This means that the transport capacity of the plug-in hybrid model is only slightly restricted. At 450 litres, the luggage compartment volume of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is on a par with those models which have a conventional engine. By folding down the rear seat with 40 : 20: 40 split, the storage space can be extended to up to 1 500 litres. Thanks to cutting-edge battery cell technology and a gross energy content of 12.0 kWh, the high-voltage battery contributes both to the outstanding efficiency and the excellent electrical range of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e. As a result, the plug-in hybrid model can be used for a great deal of day-to-day travel without locally produced emissions – even beyond the city.

The high-voltage battery can be charged at conventional household sockets using the standard-equipment charging cable. In this way, the battery can be fully charged in less than six hours. At a BMW i Wallbox, the same charging process can be completed in around three and a half hours. The charging socket is located under a separate flap on the front left side wall of the car. The electrical energy stored in the high-voltage battery is also used to supply the 12-volt vehicle electrical system.

Electric licence plate and tax benefit thanks to the considerable electrical range.

Thanks to its high electrical range the new BMW X3 xDrive30e fulfils the criteria laid down in the German Electric Mobility Act – depending on fittings – for classification as an e-vehicle, complete with special rights on public roads. It is also subject to reduced company car taxation in Germany. Only half the gross list price is used as a basis when calculating the monetary benefit from private use of the company car.

As an alternative to the basic version, the new BMW X3 xDrive 30e also comes in the model variants Advantage, xLine, Luxury and M Sport. Its standard equipment includes acoustic pedestrian protection. When driving electrically at low speeds, an unmistakeable sound designed specifically for electrified BMW models is generated to alert other road users to the approaching car without impairing the acoustic comfort of the vehicle occupants. In addition, the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is equipped with an auxiliary air conditioning system as standard. It can also be controlled remotely from a smartphone using the BMW Connected App: the driver can therefore get into a warm vehicle in winter and a pleasantly cool vehicle in summer. New digital services help make it more attractive and convenient to charge the high-voltage battery when out and about. The digital services support the driver in searching for and selecting public charging stations, enable the charging process to be controlled via remote functions and transmit information relating to charge status, electrical and combined range and individual energy consumption to the driver’s smartphone or other personal devices.

In addition, almost the entire range of optional equipment available for the conventionally powered versions of the BMW X3 is also available for the plug-in hybrid model – thereby increasing driving pleasure, comfort and individual style. This range includes an Adaptive Suspension, a Variable Sports Steering and a M Sport Brake System, the BMW Head-Up Display, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Driving Assistant Plus with steering and lane guidance assistant and also Parking Assistant Plus. Another feature included in this range of extras is a tow hitch that can be electrically swivelled out and in. The maximum towing capacity of the new BMW X3 xDrive30e is 2,000 kilograms.

Munich. BMW will also be injecting many of the models not affected by its ongoing model offensive with added variety and appeal during the summer of 2019. Following the successful launch of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, its choice of power units has now been expanded. New engines are also fitted in the BMW 8 Series Coupe, BMW 8 Series Convertible and BMW 5 Series Sedan. Elsewhere, the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will also be available with a six-speed manual gearbox from July 2019.

The portfolio of plug-in hybrid models is also set to grow in summer 2019, thanks to additions such as the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 49 – 46 g/km) with intelligent all-wheel drive. All plug-in hybrid models will now come with new battery cell technology to boost their electric range and will also feature acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. The BMW X2 will come with LED headlights and LED foglamps as standard from July 2019. Last but not least, new optional extras, exterior paint finishes, leather variants and interior trim strips will open up further scope for customisation in many model ranges.

BMW 3 Series Sedan: additional power units, new body colours and options.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan will serve up its distinctive brand of driving pleasure in a number of new formats from July 2019, when an ultra-sporty representative with a straight-six petrol engine and BMW xDrive, another three all-wheel-drive variants and a plug-in hybrid model are added to the line-up. As a result, customers will now have a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid drive system. Five of the power units will combine with all-wheel drive, either as standard or optionally.

Spearheading the model range is the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 l/100 km [37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 172 g/km), which is powered by a new 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. An eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive, an M Sport differential and bespoke chassis technology combine to keep the engine’s exceptional power planted firmly on the road and deliver a supremely assured and exhilarating drive. The likewise standard sports exhaust system produces a soundtrack to match. The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.

From July 2019, intelligent all-wheel drive will be available in combination with another three engines. The trio of models benefiting from the superior traction, directional stability and agility this brings will be the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.9 l/100 km [44.84 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 143 – 134 g/km), BMW 330i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.2 l/100 km [43.5 – 45.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 147 – 141 g/km) and BMW 330d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 5.4 – 5.1 l/100 km [52.3 – 55.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 140 – 134 g/km).

The new BMW 330e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 43 – 37 g/km) delivers a particularly appealing blend of driving pleasure and efficiency. The plug-in hybrid model’s four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive unit join forces to generate system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp when the newly developed XtraBoost mode is engaged. This enables the BMW 330e Sedan to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 6.0 seconds. At the same time, it is capable of a maximum electric range from 59 to 66 kilometres (37 – 41 miles) courtesy of state-of-the-art battery technology.

M Sport suspension will also be available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan (with the exception of the M Sport model) from July 2019, as will Adaptive M suspension. Both the optional suspension systems combine with Variable Sport Steering.

The new BMW Individual paint finishes Citrine Black metallic, Oxide Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Grey metallic and Brilliant White metallic create extra scope for customisation. Customers will also have the option of a BMW Individual leather steering wheel and three different BMW Individual interior trim strip designs from July 2019. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual Merino full leather trim – which wraps the upper section of the instrument panel and the door shoulders in black fulled leather, too – will also be added to the options list. The two leather trim variants are each available in a choice of five colours. BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino also features as part of the first BMW Individual Composition for the sports sedan. Other items in the Composition include 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual paint finish, sports seats, the BMW Individual leather steering wheel and an anthracite BMW Individual headliner. The M Sport Individual model is another new option combining the M Sport model’s equipment features with ultra-stylish details, such as 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual exterior paint finish, BMW Individual interior trim strips, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and the BMW Individual leather steering wheel.

BMW 5 Series: new V8 engine, plug-in hybrid model now also with all-wheel drive, attractive optional extras and packages.

A generation change for the V8 engine and another plug-in hybrid model make the range of drive systems available for the BMW 5 Series even more appealing. From July 2019 the BMW M550i xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.0 – 9.9 l/100 km [28.25 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 227 – 225 g/km) will be fitted with the latest update of the eight-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. The new V8 has an optimised crankcase and larger turbochargers positioned in the “V” between the cylinder banks, and develops maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp plus peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The eight-cylinder teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive and model-specific chassis technology to generate standout dynamics.

From July 2019 the latest-generation high-voltage battery will give the BMW 530e Sedan (petrol consumption combined: 1.8 – 1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 41 – 36 g/km) a longer all-electric operating range. The plug-in hybrid model will now also be available with intelligent all-wheel drive. The link-up of four-cylinder petrol engine and electric drive system endow the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan with system output of 185 kW/252 hp.

A new BMW Individual Composition will be available for all BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring model variants from July 2019. The precisely coordinated design and equipment features for the exterior and interior include a BMW Individual paint finish and 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium satinated, comfort seats with active seat ventilation, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino, a BMW Individual leather steering wheel, an Anthracite-coloured BMW Individual headliner, ambient lighting, a BMW Individual instrument panel in black leather and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW 8 Series: new six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, optional M Sport seats, additional paint finishes and leather trim variants.

Another engine option and four new model variants inject extra variety into the line-up of power units for the new BMW 8 Series luxury sports car. From July 2019 the BMW 8 Series Coupe and BMW 8 Series Convertible will also be offered with a new six-cylinder in-line-petrol engine developing 250 kW/340 hp. It teams up with rear-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.3 – 7.2 l/100 km [38.7 –39.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 167 – 164 g/km) and new BMW 840i Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.5 – 7.4 l/100 km [37.7 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 170 – 168 g/km), and with intelligent all-wheel drive in the new BMW 840i xDrive Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 7.7 – 7.5 l/100 km [36.7 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 174 – 172 g/km) and new BMW 840i xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.8 – 7.7 l/100 km [36.2 - 36.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 178 – 175 g/km).

The engine line-up for the BMW 8 Series also includes a V8 option and a six-cylinder in-line diesel unit. All model variants stand out with their captivating performance attributes, which can be enjoyed in even greater richness and depth in the M Sport seats now added to the options list. As well as attention-grabbing bucket-seat contours and safety belts with accent strips in BMW M GmbH colours, the M Sport seats also feature 3D quilting, perforated central sections and bespoke stitching. Added to which, BMW 8 Series customers will also be able to specify BMW Individual full-leather appointments in eight colour variants from July 2019, plus BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips in Black Ash Silver Effect high-gloss and Carbon Fibre.

Ultra-classy exterior paint finishes have been added to the spectrum of options available. For example, customers can now also order their BMW 8 Series Coupe or BMW 8 Series Convertible in the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. The BMW 8 Series Convertible can also be ordered with the BMW Individual finishes Frozen Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Dark Brown metallic, Frozen Arctic Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Silver, Frozen Cashmere Silver, Pure Metal Silver, Brilliant White metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic, Aventurine Red metallic and Almandine Brown metallic.

BMW X2: LED headlights now standard, additional light-alloy wheels, optional M Sport braking system.

The BMW X2 will come as standard from July 2019 with LED headlights with extended features. Their adaptive light distribution ensures optimum road illumination in urban areas, when turning off a road and through corners. LED front foglamps will also be part of standard specification for the compact Sports Activity Coupe. Options will include five new light-alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch formats and two new upholstery variants.

The M Sport braking system fitted as standard on the BMW X2 M35i (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.9 l/100 km [39.8 – 40.9 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 161 – 158 g/km) will now be available as an option for all other variants of the BMW X2. The Navigation option will now include an 8.8 inch Control Display with touchscreen functionality in place of the previous 6.5-inch version. And if the Navigation Plus option is specified, the display will have a screen diagonal of 10.25 inches.

BMW X3 and BMW X4: M Sport seats, new M Sport Individual equipment line.

New optional extras will be added to the range for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in summer 2019 to give the duo yet more appeal. The Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe will be available with the option of M Sport seats with distinct bucket-seat styling and special design features for the M Sport model, BMW X3 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.1 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.0 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 207 – 206 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.5 – 6.4 l/100 km [43.5 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 172 – 169 g/km), BMW X4 M40i (fuel consumption combined: 9.1 – 9.0 l/100 km [31.0 – 31.4 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 206 – 205 g/km) and BMW X4 M40d (fuel consumption combined: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km [42.8 – 44.1 mpg imp], CO2 emissions combined: 173 – 170 g/km), as well as with additional interior trim strip variants.

The new M Sport Individual model available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 from August 2019 brings together a number of high-quality touches that add to their dynamic prowess, while also giving them an even more stylish and exclusive aura. The equipment features of the M Sport model are combined with highlights such as a BMW Individual paint finish, 21-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black.

BMW X5 and BMW X7: new power units, plus more exterior paint finishes, light-alloy wheels and leather trim variants.

The choice of power units for the new BMW X5 will be expanded with the addition of a new entry-level engine in the form of a four-cylinder diesel available for the Sports Activity Vehicle from August 2019. The two-litre engine in the new BMW X5 xDrive25d (fuel consumption combined: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km [45.6 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 162 – 150 g/km) develops maximum output of 170 kW/231 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) with the help of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising multi-stage turbocharging and common-rail direct injection. The efficient diesel engine teams up with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The engine’s emission control system includes an SCR catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions, helping the new BMW X5 xDrive25d to satisfy the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions norm.

The summer of 2019 will also see the launch of another exceptionally efficient version of the Sports Activity Vehicle in the form of the BMW X5 xDrive45e (petrol consumption combined: 2.0 – 1.7 l/100 km [141.2 – 166.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 23.5 – 20.3 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 39 g/km). This plug-in hybrid model is powered by a combination of a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and an electric motor, which together generate system output of 290 kW/394 hp. The second-generation BMW X5 with electrified powertrain accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system is on hand to deliver sporty driving pleasure on the road and supremely assured performance off it by distributing the drive power from both engine and motor to all four wheels. The latest battery cell technology on board the new X5 xDrive45e helps it to cover distances of up to 80 kilometres (50 miles) on electric power alone.

Customers will also enjoy an even wider choice of optional extras. The body colour Manhattan metallic, 22-inch M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design, the BMW Individual Alcantara headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features will all be added to the BMW X5 options list from August 2019.

New options are being made available for the new BMW X7, too. From August 2019, it will be possible to upgrade the cabin of the luxury segment’s first ever Sports Activity Vehicle with BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in three different colours and a BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite or Ivory White Alcantara. The palette of colours for the exterior will now expand to include the Manhattan metallic shade and BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and Ametrine metallic. And the BMW X7 can likewise now be specified with BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line trim with extended features.

BMW Z4: entry-level engine now also available with manual gearbox.

The 145 kW/197 hp four-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW Z4 sDrive20i (fuel consumption combined: 6.9 – 6.8 l/100 km [40.9 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 157 – 155 g/km) will be partnered by a six-speed manual gearbox as standard from July 2019. The entry-level version of the open-top sports car will also be optionally available with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

Plug-in hybrid models with new battery cell technology and acoustic protection for pedestrians.

From summer 2019, the new BMW 330e Sedan, new BMW 530e Sedan, new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan and new BMW X5 xDrive45e will be joined in the line-up of plug-in hybrid models boasting the very latest battery cell technology by the new BMW 225xe Active Tourer (petrol consumption combined: 2.1 – 1.9 l/100 km [134.5 – 148.7 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.2 – 13.5 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 47 – 42 g/km) and the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan models with electrified powertrains. The newly developed high-voltage batteries further increase efficiency at the same time as boosting the electric range.

From summer 2019, all plug-in hybrid models will be equipped with acoustic protection for pedestrians as standard. When driving on electric power, an unmistakable sound specially created for electrified BMW models is generated using a system of speakers. The sound produced at low speeds has been designed to announce the car’s presence acoustically without affecting acoustic comfort for its occupants.

New optional extra: BMW Drive Recorder - for the Belgian market only.

The BMW Drive Recorder is another new addition to the options list. It can be ordered in conjunction with Parking Assistant Plus and is available for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, new BMW X5 and new BMW X7. The BMW Drive Recorder uses the cameras of the various driver assistance systems to record video footage from different points around the vehicle, before saving the recordings so they can be either watched later on the Control Display when the car is stationary or exported via the USB port.

Drivers can therefore shoot videos while driving through spectacular scenery, for example, or performing impressive manoeuvres on the race track, and then send them to their mobile device and share them. Recordings can be up to 40 seconds in length, comprising the 20 seconds of video saved immediately prior to the Drive Recorder being activated and the next 20 seconds. The Drive Recorder can be started at any time from the iDrive menu. Another benefit of the system is that, in the event of a collision, the 20 seconds before the accident and the 20 seconds following it are automatically recorded and saved, so they can be referred back to in any subsequent reconstruction of the incident.

Refined looks based on details inspired by motor racing.
M Performance lettering is one particularly effective way of creating a visual highlight. Designed to ensure an ideal match with the model in question, the side lettering in Frozen Black underscores the sporty character of the vehicle, in particular emphasising the dynamic proportions of the body. In addition to the side lettering, the appearance of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 can be further refined with the front lettering in high-gloss black – matching the other front attachment parts for these two models, which also feature a high-gloss finish. M Performance front radiator grilles in high-gloss black are available for the BMW X2. These have the same geometry as the standard grilles but are much more visually striking, thereby underscoring the vehicle's sporty flair and dynamic performance.

The M Performance exterior mirror caps in carbon fibre are another eye-catcher available for all three series. They are crafted elaborately by hand from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). With several coating layers and finished with a high-gloss polish, the carbon fibre caps have a depth effect which gives them a compelling appearance.

Sporty, elegant refinement on the inside.
The interior of the BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 can also be enhanced for additional sporty flair by means of select details, while at the same time increasing feel-good comfort on board. The M Performance floor mats are a potential contributing factor here. They are made of velour velvet with a leather-look surround and contrasting decorative seams. Their soft material makes them especially gentle on shoe heels. The front mats for driver and passenger bear the M Performance branding.

The M Performance steering wheel ensures the driver of a BMW X2, BMW X3 or BMW X4 retains a perfect grip on everything. It has distinct, specially lined grip areas which are covered with Alcantara. This microfibre fabric similar to suede is exceptionally pleasant to the touch in all temperatures and provides an optimum hold. The upper and lower part of the steering wheel are also covered in high-quality leather, as is the accompanying steering wheel trim panel. A red motorsports marking in the 12 o'clock position emphasises the car's dynamic qualities, as does the silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitch seam. Steering wheel trim panels are also optionally available for the BMW X3 and BMW X4 in carbon fibre/leather, with central clasp in either open-pore or high-gloss carbon fibre.

Shift paddles at the steering wheel enable the driver to change gear without taking their hands off the steering wheel, thereby facilitating vehicle control even when driving in dynamic style. For the BMW X3 and BMW X4 with this feature on board, the shift paddles are available in high-gloss carbon fibre. They are covered in an extremely fine carbon mesh, enhanced with a PUR finish and a high-gloss polish, and also feature plus and minus symbols in anodised red.

Extensive range of attractive summer complete wheel sets.
Much of a vehicle's design is perceptibly dominated by its wheel/tyre combination. This is why adaptations in this area have traditionally been among the most popular customisation measures in the automotive sector. This also accounts for the wide range available as part of the BMW M Performance Parts program. The 20-inch summer complete wheel set Styling 717 M is available for the BMW X2, for example. The matt black finish of this light alloy wheel, weight-optimised by means of flowforming technology (rolled rim well) adds a particularly striking touch of sporty flair. The 19-inch M Performance light alloy wheel Double Spoke 698 M in Orbit Grey is available as a summer complete wheel set for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. The exclusive finish and visible wheel bolts are key contributing factors to an impressive appearance here. The 21-inch forged wheel Y Spoke 701 M Bicolor is currently the largest wheel in the program of Original BMW Accessories for the BMW X3 and BMW X4. It also has a rolled rim well, and it weighs some two kilograms less than a similarly designed cast wheel in the same format: this is because of the special manufacturing process used. The Bicolor look with black as the background colour and the burnished finish on the visible side make for a very eye-catching impression, especially due to the high-quality clear finish.

Light installations for a highly effective appearance.
One discreet customisation option that also adds a definite touch of exclusivity at the same time are the BMW LED door projectors. They replace the standard entry light and project a graphic onto the ground when the door is opened. The selection of motifs include the BMW M logo as well as various motifs from an M Performance slide set.

Munich. The new BMW X2 is still far from being ready for its market debut. Nevertheless, the newest Sports Activity Coupé in the BMW X family is beginning to get out and about in its most congenial environment – the urban jungle.

As a matter of fact, it was noted during Fashion Week, which is being held in Milan from 20 to 25 September, wearing an outfit perfect for the occasion. The athletic silhouette of the new BMW X2 was attired in a spectacular camouflage effect, with tones of yellow, gray, and black that highlight its sporty and stylish qualities. The unusual underlying design is based on a digital model and expresses the innovative spirit and the orientation towards the future of the BMW Group.

Therefore it is not surprising that the new BMW X2 wearing Camouflage Digital is at the center of attention in the most characteristic and cool locations in Milan. Anyone who encountered it during its excursion into city life was able to recognize it immediately for its extravagant, contemporary, and sporty design. The outing offered a good opportunity to see first hand the new interpretation of BMW X design aimed at young people who are extroverted and active.

En 2003 BMW créait, avec la BMW X3, le segment des SAV (Sports Activity Vehicles) de milieu de gamme. Depuis, les deux premières générations de ce modèle ont enregistré plus de 1,5 million d’immatriculations neuves. Aujourd’hui, la nouvelle BMW X3 perpétue cette histoire à succès en se présentant avec un langage de formes dynamique encore plus marquant, avec des moteurs à la fois puissants et efficaces et une dotation luxueuse. Comme tous les membres de la famille X convoitée, elle associe d’excellentes qualités routières sur tous les terrains à une aptitude totale au quotidien.

Design affûté et trois finitions.

La BMW X3, troisième du nom, fait elle aussi rimer look tout terrain robuste et allure sportive. Ses proportions typiques avec un porte-à-faux ultracourt à l’avant et à l’arrière mettent en évidence la répartition parfaite des masses à raison de 50 / 50 entre l’avant et l’arrière. La nouvelle BMW X3 se veut très dynamique, une ambition qu’elle souligne par les naseaux traités en trois dimensions et les antibrouillards qui adoptent un modelé hexagonal, du jamais vu sur un modèle X. En vue arrière, les optiques particulièrement expressifs dans leur version tout LEDs optionnelle traitée en trois dimensions, le béquet de toit dont le galbe s’étire vers le bas et les deux embouts d’échappement disposés à droite et à gauche confèrent une grande vigueur à la poupe.

Association optimisée entre dynamisme et agrément de conduite.

En mettant en oeuvre toute une série de mesures sur le châssis, les ingénieurs ont sensiblement amélioré le comportement dynamique, la marche en ligne droite et le toucher de route de la nouvelle BMW X3. Le modèle est ainsi encore plus sportif que le précédent sans pour autant perdre en agrément de conduite. Parmi les options proposées pour les liaisons au sol, citons le Châssis M Sport, l’Amortissement variable piloté, les freins M Sport et la Direction sport variable.

Gamme de moteurs encore plus efficaces et construction légère intelligente.

Pour le lancement commercial et la période qui suit, la gamme des moteurs comprendra deux diesels et trois moteurs à essence. Avec la BMW X3 M40i forte de 265 kW (360 ch) (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 8,4 à 8,2 /100 km ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 193 à 188 g/km)*, cette série de modèles comprend pour la première fois une automobile M Performance. La BMW X3 xDrive30i d’une puissance de 185 kW (252 ch) (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 7,4 /100 km ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte :168 g/km)** est la deuxième variante à moteur à essence. Les deux variantes diesel sont la BMW X3 xDrive20d d’une puissance de 140 kW (190 ch) (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 5,4 à 5,0 /100 km ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 142 à 132 g/km)*et la BMW X3 xDrive30d d’une puissance de 195 kW (265 ch) (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 6,0 à 5,7 /100 km ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 158 à 149 g/km)*. Peu après le lancement commercial suivra aussi la BMW X3 20i d’une puissance de 135 kW (184 ch) (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 7,4 à 7,2 /100 km ; émissions de CO2 en cycle mixte : 169 à 165 g/km)**, disponible au choix en version à transmission intégrale ou à propulsion (pas en Europe). Toutes les motorisations sont accouplées de série à une boîte Steptronic à huit rapports optimisée.

La stratégie de développement BMW EfficientDynamics, mise en oeuvre avec rigueur sur la nouvelle BMW X3, ne mise pas seulement sur les moteurs optimisés en termes de consommation, mais aussi sur de nombreuses mesures de construction légère intelligente. Ainsi, l’emploi plus massif de composants d’aluminium sur les moteurs et les liaisons au sol a permis de réduire le poids de ces ensembles, ce qui se traduit par un gain de poids atteignant jusqu’à 55 kilogrammes par rapport au modèle précédent correspondant, corrigé des variations d’équipements. En outre, la nouvelle BMW X3 se distingue par un coefficient de pénétration dans l’air cx de 0,29, soit la meilleure valeur dans son segment.

BMW ConnectedDrive : conduite partiellement automatisée et interconnexion moderne.

Quant au Copilote BMW et à ses propositions dans le domaine des systèmes d’aide au conducteur et de la conduite (partiellement) automatisée, la nouvelle BMW X3 offre en option le Régulateur actif vitesse-distance (ACC) de la toute dernière génération ainsi que le pack sécuritaire Driving Assistant Plus qui inclut l’Assistant de braquage et de centrage dans la voie, l’Assistant de trajectoire (prévu pour décembre 2017) et l’Assistant de maintien de la trajectoire avec protection en cas de collision latérale. Forte de ce vaste choix de systèmes d’aide au conducteur, la nouvelle BMW X3 fixe les références dans son environnement concurrentiel direct.

Outre les aides au conducteur regroupés dans le Copilote BMW, les services et applications forment le deuxième pilier de BMW ConnectedDrive. Munich/Arjeplog. Driving dynamic and reliability are just two of the major characteristics of any BMW automobile. To ensure that a BMW functions in all conditions and that the customer is able to enjoy unrestricted access to that brand-typical “driving pleasure” at any time, BMW invests a great deal of time and know-how in both the construction and the testing of new automobiles. Long before a new model series arrives on the market, it will have had to withstand possibly the most severe endurance tests. This includes, for example, testing under extreme climatic conditions such as those prevailing in scorching hot deserts or freezing cold winter landscapes.

Fine tuning for optimal safety and maximum driving enjoyment.

Moreover, the extensive ice surfaces of frozen lakes and the numerous remote roads with their firmly packed layers of snow offer excellent conditions for fine tuning of the settings activated via the Driving Experience Control function – and hence for the application of maximum driving pleasure and best possible driving safety. As a result, engineers are in a position to sense the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour much more accurately and synchronize the control of driver assistant systems such as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) even more precisely and to attune it to the vehicle as a whole. It is this painstaking development work that later provides the customer with a competently tuned chassis for that typical BMW driving pleasure.

Ideal preconditions for testing the BMW X3 in the polar region.

Within the framework of the final winter trials, a BMW testing team completed a fastidious testing programme in wintery North Sweden. In the landscape around the small town of Arjeplog, pre-series models of the new BMW X3 had to prove that they are also able to withstand cold, ice and snow. Located in the historic province of Lapland barely 56 kilometres south of the polar circle, Arjeplog offers the ideal conditions for this. An abundant amount of snow and temperatures of minus 20 degrees and below cause the many lakes in the surrounding area to freeze over. The resulting vast, even surfaces serve as proving grounds on which steering, suspension and drive characteristics can be meticulously tested and various different technical solutions compared against one another. In the process, the intelligent four-wheel technology xDrive is able to demonstrate its advantages by not only ensuring best possible traction on icy surfaces but, thanks to fully variable distribution of torque, also by optimizing handling agility, this in turn resulting in enhanced driving dynamics and active driving safety.

La nouvelle BMW X3, le premier Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) au monde dans le
segment des véhicules de catégorie moyenne, sera disponible à partir de
septembre 2004 avec un tout nouveau moteur. Par l'introduction de la X3 2.0d,
BMW équipe pour la première fois son SAV d'un moteur quatre cylindres, qui est
parfaitement adapté à une utilisation offroad. De ce fait, la marque accroît
son attrait pour un groupe encore plus important de clients qui choisissent le
SAV spécialement pour ses aptitudes hors des routes asphaltées.
Avec ses deux litres de cylindrée, ce diesel common rail de la dernière
génération à injection directe développe dans la X3 une puissance maximum de
150 ch (110 kW) à 4.000 tours/min. et son couple maximum est de 330 Nm. La
faible consommation du moteur dans ce modèle apporte la preuve que la vitesse
et la sobriété ne sont pas incompatibles pour un véhicule à traction intégrale.
La X3 consomme seulement 7,2 litres de diesel aux 100 km selon le cycle combiné
européen.

Après sa modification la plus récente, ce moteur quatre cylindres en ligne
garantit dans la nouvelle BMW X3 2.0d un comportement extrêmement souple pour
un diesel. Cette technologie common rail de la dernière génération, avec une
pression d'injection de plus de 1600 bar, lui permet d'atteindre le couple
incroyable de 330 Nm à 2.000 tours/min. seulement. Ainsi, la X3 peut traduire
de manière impressionnante les atouts exceptionnels de la nouvelle traction
intégrale BMW X3 en prestations dynamiques sur la route, et ceci en toute
circonstance. La transmission multi disques à contrôle électronique répartit la
traction sur les deux essieux en quelques fractions de seconde. Le système ne
garantit pas seulement ainsi une excellente traction, mais aussi une réaction

performances. Elle passe de zéro à 100 km/h en 10,2 secondes, sur le quatrième
rapport elle passe de 80 à 120 km/h en seulement 8,3 secondes. Comme elle
atteint une vitesse de pointe de 198 km/h, la nouvelle X3 2.0d possède donc
tous les atouts d'un vrai Sports Activity Vehicle BMW. La nouvelle fantastique
dans ce contexte, c'est que le moteur et la ligne cinématique de ce nouveau SAV
lui font parcourir 875 km selon le cycle combiné CE avec un seul plein de
carburant.

Boîte à six vitesses standard
En parfaite harmonie avec le moteur deux litres, la boîte de vitesses à six
rapports montée d'origine assure également une faible consommation pour
d'excellentes performances. Le premier rapport est conçu pour une puissance
maximale de traction et de poussée, tout bénéfice bien sûr pour les
accélérations au démarrage. Mais un point très important pour une voiture de
son segment, c'est que cette première vitesse se montre excellente aussi pour
démarrer sur une pente ou en tractant une remorque. Les cinq autres vitesses -
la vitesse de pointe est atteinte en sixième - garantissent au conducteur de
toujours disposer du meilleur rapport sur toutes les surfaces et à toutes les
vitesses possibles. Le conducteur dispose ainsi toujours et partout d'un couple
très confortable et d'accélérations puissantes. En même temps, il ou elle peut
conduire la X3 de façon détendue, presque paresseuse. La boîte à six vitesses
assure une fois de plus, dans le style typique et unique à BMW, des changements
de rapports rapides et confortables avec des mouvements courts et précis du
levier, ce qui améliore encore le caractère dynamique de cet excellent Sports
Activity Vehicle.

La X3 2.0d est livrée d'origine avec des pneus de 235/55 pour toutes les
saisons, montés sur des jantes de 17 pouces en alliage léger avec un nouveau
design. Comme toutes les BMX X3, elle est équipée d'origine de la traction
intégrale permanente BMW xDrive avec embrayage multi disques à contrôle
électronique. Parmi l'équipement standard, on trouve également le DSC Dynamic
Stability Control, le DBC Dynamic Brake Control, le CBC Cornering Brake Control
et le Brake Force Display (distribution de la force de freinage) de BMW en deux

par exemple, le système audio cd BMW Business pourra lire des cd au format MP3
et le populaire kit de préparation pour la communication mobile Bluetooth
pourra soutenir toutes les fonctions du système BMW Assist driver assistance.
La TV qui est disponible en combinaison avec le système de navigation
Professional, pourra recevoir non plus seulement des signaux analogiques, mais
aussi des signaux digitaux. Enfin, on pourra désormais fixer un siège d'enfant
ISOFIX sur le siège du passager avant, et dans ce cas l'airbag se déconnectera
automatiquement.

La X3 2.0d sera disponible à partir de la mi-septembre au prix de 36.400 euros
(TVA incl.). Le moteur et son système d'échappement sont conformes au standard
actuel d'émissions EU3.

Le X3 associe les proportions caractéristiques d'un Sports Activity Vehicle
avec des éléments de style BMW tant classiques que nouveaux. Le langage moderne
des formes, alternant concavités et convexités, confère au X3 un air de
fraîcheur et de jeunesse. De nombreux détails caractéristiques, comme par
exemple la réinterprétation du retour typé de la ligne des vitres latérales
arrière («pli Hofmeister»), les naseaux redessinés ou encore les optiques avant
et arrière, soulignent son individualisme au sein de la gamme des modèles BMW.
Le long empattement associé aux porte-à-faux réduits ainsi que la ligne de toit
plongeant vers l'arrière accentuent le dynamisme du Sports Activity Vehicule
alors qu'il est encore à l'arrêt. Les passages de roues enflés et musclés et sa
partie avant marquante confèrent une personnalité affirmée au nouveau-venu et
soulignent sa souveraineté, indépendamment de l'environnement dans lequel il
apparaît.

Les six cylindres en ligne de 3,0 litres vantés pour leur velouté et leur
puissance extraordinaires, que ce soit en version essence ou diesel, permettent
au X3 de progresser avec dynamisme. Fort de 170 kW (231 ch), l'agile X3 3.0i
peut foncer à 210 km/h en dotation standard, alors qu'en réglage haute vitesse
optionnel (disponible avec le pack sport), il pousse jusqu'à 224 km/h. Le X3
3.0d enthousiasmera surtout les amis d'un couple particulièrement corsé. Revu
il y a peu, le six cylindres turbodiesel à injection directe et rampe commune
de la deuxième génération délivre 150 kW (204 ch) et assure au Sports Activity
Vehicle un couple maxi. souverain de 410 Nm. En dotation standard, ce X3 file
également à une vitesse maximale de 210 km/h, vitesse qui passe à 218 km/h en
réglage haute vitesse du véhicule. Les deux motorisations sont accouplées en
série à une boîte mécanique à 6 rapports ou, sur demande, à une boîte
automatique à 5 rapports. D'autres variantes de moteur suivront petit à petit.

Le système de transmission intégrale intelligent xDrive, une conception
entièrement nouvelle fixant de nouveaux repères en matière d'agilité dans le
segment des véhicules à quatre roues motrices, est un point fort particulier du
X3. xDrive permet une répartition en continu entièrement variable du couple
entre l'essieu avant et l'essieu arrière. Le système identifie immédiatement
toute nécessité de modifier la répartition de la puissance et réagit en un clin
d'oeil, en règle générale avant même qu'une roue ne puisse perdre l'adhérence,
lorsque le véhicule évolue sur route. xDrive peut ainsi à tous moments
transmettre le couple optimal à chaque essieu, par exemple lors d'un passage de
virage particulièrement dynamique, et minimise ainsi nettement la tendance au
sous-virage ou au survirage.

Sur route, xDrive offre un gain sensible d'agilité, de plaisir de conduire et,
en même temps, de sécurité. Par rapport à des systèmes de transmission
intégrale conventionnels, les systèmes d'assistance à la conduite comme le DSC
ne sont ainsi obligés d'intervenir que bien plus tard. xDrive facilite de plus
la progression sur sol meuble ou glissant, le couple étant envoyé très
rapidement aux roues gardant l'accroche lorsqu'une roue risque de patiner et,
donc, de manquer de traction.

La polyvalence du nouveau X3 est cependant loin de se limiter à la diversité
des terrains sur lesquels il évoluera avec agilité et entrain. Son habitacle et
les multiples possibilités d'équipement en font en effet la BMW idéale pour les
gens actifs et à l'esprit ouvert. Bien assis en «position de commande» - la
position assise surélevée caractérisant les Sports Activity Vehicles de BMW -
les occupants ont une vue parfaite non seulement sur l'environnement extérieur,
mais aussi sur un intérieur spacieux très moderne. L'élégance et l'esthétisme
typiques de BMW se sont vus combiner à une ambiance jeune et sportive et à de
nombreux détails pratiques correspondant à la vocation du véhicule. Une vaste
offre de matériaux et de couleurs soit classiques soit modernes et sportifs
présente d'innombrables possibilités de donner une touche individuelle à
l'intérieur du véhicule. Au poste de pilotage, les deux instruments ronds sont
regroupés sous une visière élégante, un agencement typique chez BMW. Au milieu
du tableau de bord, on trouve l'écran couleur au format 16/9 optionnel du
système de navigation qui se dresse automatiquement dès que l'on s'en sert.

Beaucoup de place aussi derrière le hayon arrière s'ouvrant en grand pour
permettre de charger divers équipements de sport, comme plusieurs VTT par
exemple. De nombreux rangements parfont le caractère fonctionnel du X3. Et
quant à ceux qui voudraient partir avec des équipements de sport extrêmement
encombrants, le contrôle de stabilité de la remorque, un système BMW unique en
son genre, leur permet de tracter en toute sécurité par exemple une remorque
pour bateaux ou tout autre type de remorque. Cette extension du contrôle
dynamique de la stabilité DSC fait partie de la dotation standard tout comme la
gestion de la motricité en descente HDC (Hill Descent Control) qui permet de
dévaler en toute sécurité des pentes, même si le sol est meuble.

Lors du développement du X3, la sécurité active et passive a également dû
répondre à des critères exigeants. Le principe de construction éprouvé des
Sports Activity Vehicles de BMW - l'arbre de transmission avant traversant le
carter d'huile - confère un centre de gravité très bas au X3 et réduit ainsi
l'inclinaison latérale. Grâce à la répartition intelligente du couple, xDrive
assure, quant à lui, une stabilité à toute épreuve au X3, même si celui-ci
prend les virages à vive allure. De nombreuses situations critiques ne se
présenteront de ce fait même pas. Et si jamais une telle situation arrive, le
contrôle dynamique de la stabilité DSC de série y parera par une intervention
stabilisante.

Le nouveau BMW X3 sera disponible début 2004 en Europe et en Amérique du Nord
suivis, successivement, par d'autres marchés.

Munich. The BMW Group and SFT (Steyr-Daimler-Puch Fahrzeugtechnik AG & Co. KG),
Graz (Austria), a subsidiary of Magna Group, have signed a cooperation
agreement covering the development and manufacture of the new BMW "X3" Sports
Activity Vehicle. The detailed vehicle concept worked out by engineers from the
BMW Group was forwarded to Magna Steyr Engineering for series development.
Production will be taken over by Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik in Graz. The
relevant contract was signed yesterday in Munich.

Through this cooperation on the realisation of the BMW "X3" project, the BMW
Group is optimising its own resources and pushing forward with its product
offensive. In Magna Steyr, the BMW Group has found a partner with many years'
experience in the realisation of vehicle projects. There has been in-depth
cooperation between the companies for years in the field of BMW four-wheel
drive technology in particular.

intelligently can multiply", says Professor Dr.-Ing. Joachim Milberg, Chairman
of the Board of Management of BMW AG. "Our cooperation with Magna Steyr
increases the speed and flexibility of our company and is a further milestone
in the consistent implementation of our product offensive."

The BMW "X3" is an expansion of the X family, and is an independent new
development. As with all BMW vehicles, some elements will use BMW module units.
All the vehicle components in the BMW "X3" will be signed off by the BMW
Group's Development Departments. In addition, core areas of competence, such as
design, engine construction, purchasing and customer service will remain the
sole responsibility of the BMW Group.
