BMW presents the most powerful variant yet of its Neue Klasse Sports Utility Vehicle. The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive is equipped with an electric motor at each axle, produces maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp¹ and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds¹. As well as particularly striking looks, the high-performance variant of the BMW iX3 comes as standard with features including adaptive M suspension. Numerous other model-specific equipment items also shine a vivid spotlight on its sporting profile. Orders for the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive will open at the end of January 2027.

Munich. The fully electric BMW iX3 – as the first Neue Klasse model – embodies the dawn of a new era and a new level of driving pleasure. And with the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive (electric power consumption, combined: 20.5 – 17.6 kWh/100; CO₂ class: A, electric range: up to 754 km / 468 miles; as per WLTP)², a dynamically enhanced model variant is now making its debut in the line-up.

As an M Performance model, the fully electric SUV puts smiles on faces with its particularly powerful drive system, sports performance and the agile handling for which BMW is renowned. The BMW iX3 M60 xDrive therefore embodies to eye-catching effect the technological leap forward encapsulated by the Neue Klasse. The combination of these attributes and an unmistakably extrovert appearance shapes the boldly sporting character of the most powerful BMW iX3.

The BMW iX3 M60 xDrive instantly translates the power from the all-electric BMW M eDrive powertrain into pure dynamism. The Heart of Joy and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control coordinate driving-related information in milliseconds, ensuring a very direct and precise driving experience. The driver can use the shift paddles on the steering wheel to actively influence the responses of M eDrive and to adapt the car’s performance with exceptional precision according to the driving situation at hand. Customised, speed-sensitive sound design and dynamic handling feedback promise an exhilarating driving experience typical of M models.

Production of the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive will begin at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary in spring 2027.

Inspired by the race track: M Yellow Lights are an identifying feature of the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive and part of its boldly sporting exterior design.

The status of the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive as a performance car is clear at first glance. Elements of the new BMW M design language shape the front end and maximise its visual presence. A clear identifying feature here is the new M Yellow Lights, with their focused gaze on the road. These light icons have their origins in motor sport, with racing cars like the BMW M Hybrid V8 providing the aesthetic inspiration. The M Yellow Lights can only be used in combination with the low-beam headlights (depending on the market).

Progressively designed light elements positioned to the left and right of the BMW kidneys are another feature of the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive. Each consists of three striking elements inspired by the familiar BMW M stripes and each serves as a connecting component within the light signature. At the same time, these light elements underscore the unique character of the front end. The M logo is also part of the light signature.

Standard specification for the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive includes both M Sport exterior items and the BMW Iconic Glow exterior package. The latter intensifies the sense of visual depth created by the iconic BMW kidneys, with precise contour lighting underscoring the car’s attractive appearance. The BMW Iconic Glow exterior package also adds adaptive light functions that enhance safety and comfort – including the BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high-beam assistant, Adaptive Headlights and the motorway beam pattern – plus fan-shaped area lighting within the rear lights and various light effects in the form of Welcome & Goodbye Animations. Here, drivers can choose from Relaxed, Balanced and Excited styles.

The side view of the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive showcases the modern, reduced-to-the-essential Neue Klasse design with its precise lines and clearly sculpted surfaces. The car’s long wheelbase, short overhangs and strikingly contoured wheel arches accentuate its muscular appearance. Roof rails in Black high-gloss additionally underscore its unmistakable Sports Utility Vehicle character. Meanwhile, the aerodynamically optimised M mirror caps fitted as standard highlight the car’s pronounced sporting appeal and have a striped design in M colours against their black background. The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive has an M logo on its flanks.

While the range-topping BMW iX3 variant is fitted as standard with 21-inch M light-alloy wheels, items up to 22 inches in size can be found on the options list. Specially developed 21-inch sport tyres can be specified as an option and 22-inch M aerodynamic wheels are available exclusively for the new M Performance model.

Athletic shoulders and a deeply inset glasshouse shape the rear view of the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive. The pronounced wheel arches emphasise the car’s width and its dynamic character even when it is standing still. The black diffuser reinforces the extrovert looks of the M Performance model, as do the rear lights with their distinctive light signature. An “M60” badge – presented in the new M design with black lettering and silver surround – can be found at the rear. The BMW iX3 M60 xDrive also has an M-specific roof edge spoiler with two aeroblades, increasing downforce at the rear axle.

In order to maximise the scope for customising the car to personal tastes, the extensive spectrum of paint shades available at launch for the most powerful BMW iX3 includes 25 “special request” finishes. The selection of colours will be further expanded in the near future.

Extensive standard equipment; super-sporty aura continues inside the car.

The Neue Klasse design extends into the interior of the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive. The cabin offers a whole new experience of driver orientation and a fresh approach to user interaction.

BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X creates a unique display and operating system that brings together the standard-fitted BMW Panoramic Vision, Central Display in free-cut design and M Sport steering wheel, plus the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display. It ensures the driver is always given the right information in the right place at the right time.

The BMW Panoramic Vision – like the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display – projects driving-relevant information into the driver’s line of sight. The M Sport steering wheel with shy-tech controls exclusively has a red marker in the 12 o’clock position, in keeping with the standout dynamic character of the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive. The M Sport steering wheel’s multifunction buttons make it extremely intuitive to use, and customers will also find two specific buttons here for direct initiation of Boost Mode and M Mode. The M-specific My Modes “M Sport” and “M Sport Plus” can be activated directly at the push of a button too. Next to the M Sport steering wheel, the 17.9-inch Central Display in free-cut design is angled towards the driver.

The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive is fitted as standard with M Sport seats, which stand out with their sporty, expressive design and pronounced side sections for particularly secure lateral support during sporty driving. The M Sport seats have ten-way electric adjustment, including for the lumbar support, backrest width adjustment and adjustable thigh support. They also come with a massage function. The integral head restraints of the two M Sport seats each have an illuminated M logo, providing the car with another distinctive identifying feature.

The likewise illuminated controls for the seat adjustment are located in the respective door panels.

The standard M seat belts are another example of the particularly sporty features in the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive’s cabin. Another such element is the M-specific display, which differs from the standard version in the other BMW iX3 models in colour, form and font. It also includes the Powermeter, which shows the power currently being deployed and the reserves still available, as well as the current energy recuperation rate.

Customisation with My Modes and M-specific in-car apps³.

The optional BMW Digital Premium enables use of M-specific in-car apps ¹ for those on board the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive. These apps provide access to technical vehicle signals and driving dynamics data. For example, the M Cockpit app allows customers to create individually configured dashboards with real-time data, while the M Drag Meter displays data on the vehicle’s acceleration.

Meanwhile, My Modes offer customers extensive scope for adapting the light, sound, displays, chassis and drive system responses of their BMW iX3 M60 xDrive to their personal desires. For example, customers can use the My BMW App to set their own pictures as wallpaper for the Central Display.

The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive treats the driver and passengers to excellent sound quality, thanks to the standard-fitted Harman Kardon hi-fi system with 13 speakers and 430-watt output. This system enables the use of Dolby Atmos, which delivers an extremely rich and varied audio experience. Dolby Atmos creates a three-dimensional soundscape for compatible audio formats and allows sound objects to be moved around freely within the cabin. The result is an immersive audio experience in which sounds can be clearly localised within the space or even move around the listener in a realistic fashion, bringing significant extra intensity and detail richness to music, video and games.

Customers can choose from three interior designs with a harmoniously coordinated blend of materials and colour, as well as a total of seven upholstery variants. Depending on the interior design variant, these can be combined with M Sport seats or multifunction seats. The BMW iX3 M60 xDrive is specified with the suitably sporty BMW M interior design as standard. This features black seat covers in Veganza with M PerformTex. As an option, customers can choose the Contemporary or BMW Individual interior world. The Contemporary variant is available in Black, Castanea, Digital White and Agave Green with seat covers in the high-quality, leather-like material Veganza. And BMW Individual with leather offers a combination of Veganza and exclusive Merino leather on the seat cushion surfaces, providing particularly luxurious seating comfort. BMW M Sport seats in Bi-colour Adelaide Grey can also be ordered as an option. The seat covers here are a combination of M PerformTex with a seat cushion surface in Merino leather.

Extremely dynamic and highly efficient electric drive system.

The fully electric BMW iX3 M60 xDrive sets new standards – and quickens the pulse. With its Gen6 M eDrive technology, it gets the maximum out of every journey, the two electric motors infusing the SUV with power and precision. This remarkably efficient drive technology keeps energy consumption low and creates the perfect blend of sporting prowess and real-world practicality.

The sixth-generation (Gen6) electric drive system represents a technological leap forward. It offers significantly higher range figures than the previous generation, faster charging, 800V technology and bidirectional charging functionality. As well as the further developed, highly efficient electric motors, the technology underpinning these capabilities also includes the all-new high-voltage batteries with cylindrical cells.

The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive has one electric motor at the front axle and one at the rear. Together, they generate maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp¹ and peak torque of 875 Nm (645 lb-ft)¹. The SUV sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds¹.

One factor behind the power hike is that the new, range-topping BMW iX3 M60 xDrive now has a new Gen6 EESM (electrically excited synchronous motor) at the rear axle. It enables higher peak and continuous output as well as higher peak and continuous torque. It is based on a newly developed stator to boost output and a significantly more powerful inverter with 420 A instead of 300 A. Added to this is a longer ratio in conjunction with an increase in the maximum usable rotor speed, which pushes the car’s top speed up to 240 km/h (149 mph)¹.

The high-voltage battery in the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive has a usable energy content of 108.7 kWh¹ and enables a range of up to 754 km (468 miles) in the WLTP cycle². The maximum charging rate is 400 kW¹. At an 800V DC fast-charging station, users can add enough energy in ten minutes to increase the range of the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive by up to 340 kilometres (211 miles)^1,4. Standard specification also includes AC Charging Professional with a maximum AC charging rate of 22 kW¹.

For even more Sheer Driving Pleasure: the Heart of Joy works ten times faster than previous systems.

The Heart of Joy high-performance computer defines the all-new driving feeling in the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive. As one of four superbrains, it combines with the BMW M Dynamic Performance Control Driving Stack to form the high-performance powertrain and driving dynamics control system in the M Performance model. The Heart of Joy controls the drive system, braking and steering subfunctions, as well as charging and recuperation – and does so at a whole new level. It works ten times faster than previous systems.

The BMW iX3 M60 xDrive instantly translates the power generated by the fully electric BMW M eDrive system into dynamic performance. The Heart of Joy and BMW M Dynamic Performance Control coordinate driving-related processes in milliseconds, ensuring a very direct and precise driving experience.

The Heart of Joy reduces the number of control inputs required, leading to consistent and repeatable cornering behaviour that further reinforces the feeling of safety. In this way, the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive can be guided through corners extremely intuitively and with supreme precision.

The Soft Stop feature allows the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive to draw to a perfectly smooth stop – without any jerking or braking noise – thanks to energy recuperation. The result is the smoothest stopping action in the history of BMW. In everyday driving, the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive decelerates virtually entirely by means of recuperative braking. The conventional brakes are only used if emergency braking is required or in sporty driving. The most powerful BMW iX3 variant is fitted as standard with M Sport brakes, which can be specified in either Red or Blue.

As the most dynamically potent variant in the BMW iX3 line-up, the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive comes as standard with adaptive M suspension, which further enhances both sports performance and ride comfort, and features electronically controlled dampers. The driver selects the basic setting via My Modes.

The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive has two exclusive My Modes – M Sport and M Sport Plus – that open the door to an even more customised, emotionally engaging and sporty driving experience. The settings for the drive system, chassis and steering are adapted to match the My Mode selected.

Adaptive M suspension improves the car’s dynamic steering behaviour. To this end, the optimum damping forces for the driving situation at hand are calculated in the space of a few milliseconds, with the individual dampers smoothly carrying out any adjustments during a journey. This results in remarkably fleet-footed, direct and precise handling, while drivers will notice even better steering feel. Adaptive M suspension additionally enables very supple damper response, delivering superior ride comfort and lower noise levels.

Adaptive M suspension also includes sport steering with a variable rack ratio, which produces the signature steering feel of a BMW model while reducing steering effort. This increases comfort when making turns in urban areas or carrying out parking manoeuvres, for example. Sport steering also brings improvements to the car’s driving dynamics.

The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive is equipped as standard with an electronically controlled M Sport differential at the rear axle. This improves traction when cornering or driving on roads with slippery surfaces, further increasing the car’s lateral acceleration and dynamic handling capabilities.

Our development team has carried out extensive modifications to the chassis of the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive in order to endow it with the exceptionally dynamic handling abilities characteristic of BMW M models. As well as bespoke tuning of the springs and dampers, other measures include fitting anti-roll bar links at the front axle. These improve steering precision, make the anti-roll bar even more effective and reduce body roll. Plus, an additional package of bracing elements at the front end of the car increases transverse and torsional stiffness.

Innovative SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems and active safety functions that genuinely reduce strain on the driver and increase road safety.
The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive comes with innovative SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems and active safety functions with BMW Symbiotic Drive. BMW Symbiotic Drive ensures fluid and intuitive interaction between technological assistance and human driving behaviour whatever the driving situation. The systems here include a series of major improvements and functional enhancements, culminating in an assured driver assistance experience extending uninterrupted from motorways. The Highway Assistant in the new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive enables hands-free driving on motorways at up to 130 km/h (81 mph).

Debrecen, Hungary. BMW Group Plant Debrecen has produced the 50,000th BMW iX3. Just nine months after the start of series production, the plant has thus reached an important milestone in the ramp-up of the first series-production model of the Neue Klasse.

“The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen: Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant. This milestone is the result of an outstanding team effort,” said Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Production.

The rapid ramp-up was significantly accelerated by the introduction of the second shift, which started in February 2026 – well ahead of schedule. This was the BMW Group’s response to the high demand the BMW iX3 has been experiencing since its market launch. Supported by strong customer orders, the company is on track to soon reach the next important milestone of 100,000 incoming orders.

New model, new architecture, new plant

As the first series-production vehicle of the Neue Klasse, the BMW iX3 also marks the start of a new vehicle architecture – in a completely newly built plant. The plant thus plays a key role in the further scaling of the Neue Klasse across the BMW Group’s production network.

“The production of the 50,000th BMW iX3 reflects the dedication and expertise of our team. As the home of the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, Plant Debrecen is helping shape the future of the BMW Group’s global production network,” highlighted Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen.

Plant Debrecen’s pioneering role – other plants benefit from its experience

The pioneering experiences from the launch of the first Neue Klasse model provide Plant Debrecen and the other BMW Group plants worldwide with valuable insights for the upcoming launches.

“Each of our plants benefits from launch experiences we have made at Plant Debrecen. By the end of 2027, we will launch 40 new or updated models. Efficiency, speed, and quality are crucial for the successful launch of all vehicles. Knowledge transfer between our production sites worldwide is a key lever,” said Wittmann.

To achieve this, the BMW Group relies on close collaboration among its production sites. Insights from one plant flow directly into the global network and support the ramp-up of further models. This enables potential quality deviations, for example, to be identified and avoided at an early stage – before they recur at another location. Digital tools and a shared database provide the foundation for this.

L'approche de BMW en matière de sécurité est confirmée par les résultats du dernier crash-test Euro NCAP. Celui-ci évalue pour la première fois l'ensemble de la chaîne de sécurité d'une voiture : des fonctions préventives et des systèmes d'évitement des accidents à la protection en cas de collision, en passant par la sécurité après un accident. La sécurité des poignées de porte à commande électrique et à intégration affleurante du BMW iX3 a également été confirmée dans toutes les situations de test. Le premier modèle de la Neue Klasse a obtenu haut la main la note maximale de cinq étoiles aux tests Euro NCAP, qui imposent désormais des exigences nettement plus strictes.

Munich/Brussels. The BMW iX3 has been awarded the highest rating of five stars in the latest safety test conducted by independent assessment organisation Euro NCAP. The BMW iX3 was one of the first vehicles to be assessed according to the thoroughly revised test protocols introduced in 2026. The new testing procedure has a greater focus on real-world scenarios on the road and imposes significantly greater requirements for vehicle safety. In the latest Euro NCAP test, the first Neue Klasse model impressed in each of the four new crash safety stages – “Safe Driving”, “Crash Avoidance”, “Crash Protection” and “Post Crash Safety”. Indeed, it exceeded the scores required for a five-star rating by a significant margin.

The highest rating of five stars achieved here by BMW is rooted in the brand’s all-encompassing approach to safety. The safety concept of the BMW iX3 takes into account the protection of those on board in a collision, as well as crash avoidance systems and functions that help to extricate occupants after a crash. This fits in with the new and more stringent Euro NCAP assessment system. Previously, ratings were given for protection of the vehicle’s occupants (both children and adults) and vulnerable road users, and for the vehicle’s safety assistance systems. The new procedure now covers the entire sequence of events and places a clear emphasis on everyday road scenarios.

Driver assistance systems in the BMW iX3 earn excellent rating.
The standard-fitted driver assistance systems in the BMW iX3 played a key role in this strong performance. In the “Safe Driving” category, for example, Euro NCAP gave the BMW a positive rating in recognition of its ability to help drivers stay alert to the traffic around them. The Speed Limit Info display also made a convincing impression. It showed the correct speed on 97 per cent of a cross-border test route covering around 2,000 kilometres (1,243 miles) through Italy, France, Germany and Austria. Likewise attracting a positive assessment was the combination of physical controls for essential driving functions, the Central Display for adjusting infotainment and comfort-enhancing functions and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant for voice control. The systems in the BMW iX3 that detect if a child has been left behind in the vehicle earned a positive assessment, too. And the BMW iX3 posted a score of 73 per cent for “Safe Driving”, which is 13 percentage points higher than actually required for a five-star rating in this category.

Exit warning provides effective protection for cyclists.
The BMW iX3 scored 83 per cent for “Crash Avoidance”. Here, it impressed with an extensive array of active safety systems, including Front Collision Warning with brake intervention. Also earning praise was the exit warning function, which reminds occupants getting out of the car to be aware of cyclists approaching from the rear. This prevents injuries caused by opening the vehicle’s doors at the wrong time.

Exceptional safety for children in the rear seats.
The BMW iX3 recorded an excellent result (86 per cent) for “Crash Protection”. Euro NCAP awarded it the maximum number of points for the protection provided to the child test dummies in the rear seats in an asymmetric frontal collision. Additional test data and validated simulation models also confirmed a high level of protection overall for occupants with different body sizes in the various impact tests. In the side impact tests, the BMW iX3 again recorded top marks. The standard-fitted central airbag played its part here by preventing the driver and front passenger from colliding with one another.

Excellent rating for assistance after a crash.
In the “Post Crash Safety” category, the BMW iX3 posted an outstanding 95 per cent. Here, features are assessed that increase safety for occupants after a crash and help them to be extricated from the vehicle. These include emergency call systems, as well as functions designed to make the high-voltage battery safe and provide access to the vehicle for first responders. Particularly relevant here were the flush-fitted exterior door handles of the BMW iX3. The assessors confirmed that the electrically operated handles worked reliably after all the crash tests. Occupants are able to exit the vehicle and rescuers can gain access from the outside – even in the event of all the electrical systems failing. This is enabled by a mechanical redundancy for the opening systems in the BMW iX3, and Euro NCAP gave it a positive rating accordingly. The car performs well beyond legal requirements when it comes to its emergency call system. For example, it sends out two GPS coordinates, which helps rescuers to identify which side of a motorway the BMW is on and therefore to reach the scene more quickly.

New assessment procedure: from crash testing to complete vehicle rating.
The new Euro NCAP protocols represent the most comprehensive overhaul of the assessment procedure since the combined rating system was introduced in 2009. Today, driver assistance systems, real-world traffic scenarios and safety following a crash play a more prominent role in a vehicle’s overall rating – in addition to the traditional crash tests. The aim is to create a more comprehensive picture of the performance of modern safety technologies and assess their effectiveness in real-world situations on the road.

Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) is an independent consortium of European transport ministries, automobile associations, insurance associations and research institutes. Since 1997, the organisation – headquartered in Leuven, Belgium – has assessed the safety of new vehicle models using standardised testing procedures. Since 2020, the test protocols have been updated every three years and adapted to new vehicle technologies and the challenges of road traffic.

Première belge du BMW iX3 au Zoute Grand Prix à Knokke

Bornem. Il y a tout juste un mois, le groupe BMW écrivait à un tout nouveau chapitre de son histoire en dévoilant le BMW iX3 de nouvelle génération. Le tout premier modèle construit sur la nouvelle architecture inédite dénommée « Neue Klasse », jetant les bases d’une nouvelle ère entièrement électrique, digitale et circulaire.

Du 8 au 12 octobre prochain, le modèle sera présenté en Première belge à l’occasion de l’évènement lifestyle du Zoute Grand Prix à Knokke, qui permettra aux futurs clients et au public belge de faire connaissance avec ce modèle emblématique de la transition électrique et numérique de la marque à hélice.

Le BMW iX3 de nouvelle génération est un Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) entièrement électrique ouvrant la voie à une toute nouvelle ère de pur plaisir de conduire. Un nouveau langage de design confère à la voiture une allure pleine de caractère qui reflète fidèlement les progrès technologiques et innovations réalisés par le groupe. Avec la technologie BMW eDrive de sixième génération, une autonomie pouvant atteindre 805 kilomètres et une puissance de recharge maximale de 400 kW, le nouveau BMW iX3 établit des normes inédites en matière d’efficacité de capacité de conduite longue distance et de plaisir de conduire. Le début d'une nouvelle ère. Le nouveau BMW iX3.

Le BMW Panoramic iDrive, qui hisse le fonctionnement intuitif et la concentration sur le conducteur faisant la renommée de la marque à un niveau supérieur, est un élément déterminant de l'expérience utilisateur numérique à bord du nouveau BMW iX3. De plus, un concept de durabilité global réduit l’empreinte carbone de la voiture tout au long de son cycle de vie de plus de 30 % par rapport à son prédécesseur.

Le premier modèle Neue Klasse sera construit dans la nouvelle usine de BMW Group à Debrecen, en Hongrie. La première variante du SAV entièrement électrique à sortir de la chaîne de production dès l’automne 2025 sera le BMW iX3 50 xDrive (consommation électrique en cycle mixte : 17,9 – 15,1 kWh/100 km ; classe CO₂ : A ; autonomie : 678 – 805 km [421 – 500 miles] ; chiffres provisoires selon WLTP) avec une puissance de 345 kW/469 ch et transmission intégrale électrique. D’autres variantes entièrement électriques suivront, dont un modèle d’entrée de gamme. Le lancement commercial de la nouvelle BMW iX3 débutera en Europe au printemps 2026 et aux États-Unis à l’été 2026. À compter de l’été 2026, une variante de la nouvelle BMW iX3 produite à l’usine de Shenyang et spécialement conçue pour répondre aux besoins et aux désirs des clients chinois sera également commercialisée.

La nouvelle BMW iX3 représente une avancée considérable en matière de développement par rapport à son prédécesseur du même nom, qui va bien au-delà d'un simple renouvellement de modèle classique. Les progrès réalisés en termes de design et de technologie donnent l’impression qu’une génération complète de véhicules a été sautée. Pour le BMW Group, le lancement du nouveau BMW iX3 constitue également une étape majeure dans le processus de transformation en matière d’électrification, de numérisation et de circularité. Fer de lance de l’arrivée de la Neue Klasse, le modèle offre aux clients les toutes dernières innovations sur le plan du design et de la technologie, qui façonneront l’ensemble de la gamme de modèles de la marque à l’avenir. Les technologies de la Neue Klasse seront intégrées dans 40 nouveaux modèles et mises à jour de modèles d’ici 2027.

Lancement du nouveau langage de design : épuré, plein de caractère et intemporel.

Les avancées technologiques majeures offrent toujours l’occasion d’introduire des changements de design plus importants. La nouvelle BMW iX3 marquera le coup d’envoi du nouveau langage de design BMW, qui sera progressivement repris sur l’ensemble de la gamme de modèles de la marque. Cette nouvelle utilisation des formes offre une interprétation très moderne du concept original et durable de BMW. Le design est intemporel tout en capturant l’air du temps. Il est réduit à l’essence de la marque BMW – et donc plus BMW que jamais. C'est pour cette raison qu’une protection complète du design a été enregistrée pour le nouveau langage stylistique BMW utilisé dans le nouveau BMW iX3.

Le nouveau BMW iX3 incarne les valeurs et les qualités de la Neue Klasse dans le format d’un SAV. Le premier modèle BMW X de nouvelle génération mise tout sur l'espace intérieur et sur un style de vie progressiste. Avec une longueur de 4 782 millimètres, une largeur de 1 895 millimètres et une hauteur de 1 635 millimètres, le nouveau BMW iX3 arbore les proportions caractéristiques d’un SAV. Le design bi-corps caractéristique est imprégné de la présence robuste d'un modèle BMW X et affiche des lignes précises qui mettent les quatre roues en évidence. L’optimisation des détails aérodynamiques de la voiture permet d’obtenir un coefficient de traînée (C_d) de 0,24.

Le volume du coffre du nouveau BMW iX3 peut être augmenté de 520 à 1 750 litres maximum en rabattant les dossiers des sièges arrière si nécessaire. Le compartiment de rangement supplémentaire situé sous le capot peut accueillir 58 litres supplémentaires. Les clients ayant besoin d’une capacité de transport supplémentaire peuvent équiper leur voiture de la barre d’attelage rabattable électrique en option. La charge remorquable maximale du BMW iX3 50 xDrive est de 2 000 kilogrammes.

L’avant vertical et les surfaces clairement dessinées confèrent au nouveau BMW iX3 une présence considérable. La calandre BMW et les doubles phares, deux éléments distinctifs du design de la marque, occupent visuellement le devant de la scène. Les naseaux sculptés de BMW rappellent la Neue Klasse des années 1960 par leur disposition verticale. Une toute nouvelle signature lumineuse reprend le rôle joué précédemment par le chrome pour donner à la voiture une aura de qualité et de sophistication. De profil, les grandes surfaces rompues par quelques lignes précises créent une allure pleine de caractère. Les surfaces vitrées affleurantes et les poignées de portes sont également des caractéristiques de la vue latérale. La stature robuste du nouveau BMW iX3 est soulignée par des passages de roues couleur carrosserie aux contours subtilement rectangulaires, dans le style familier des modèles BMW X. L’arrière se distingue également par une silhouette puissante et athlétique. Les feux s’étendant bien au centre de l’extrémité arrière représentent une interprétation horizontale de la forme en « L » caractéristique de BMW.

Design intérieur : l’espace moderne est axé sur le conducteur, comme il se doit chez BMW, et offre un confort exceptionnel à tous les passagers.

Le design de l’intérieur de la BMW iX3 établit de nouvelles normes en termes de modernité et d’expérience numérique. L’intérieur présente un design épuré et minimaliste, offrant le cadre idéal pour l’expérience numérique. L’habitacle est entièrement axé sur le conducteur, ce qui fait la renommée de BMW, mais aussi sur le confort de tous les occupants. Créée spécifiquement pour les véhicules électriques, l’architecture offre un espace extrêmement généreux aux cinq places. Les lignes du tableau de bord « flottant » se fondent directement dans les larges panneaux de porte, créant un effet enveloppant pour les passagers. Avec sa surface en tissu et son éclairage d’ambiance, le tableau de bord contribue à l’atmosphère chaleureuse et accueillante de l’habitacle. Les grandes surfaces vitrées et le toit panoramique en option avec vitrage confort climatique créent une ambiance baignée de lumière.

Le nouveau système de commande/fonctionnement BMW Panoramic iDrive, basé sur le récent BMW Operating System X, est un autre élément marquant du poste de conduite horizontal. Il réunit les écrans, la géométrie et le design lumineux et sonore en une expérience holistique, personnalisable via My Modes. Les nouveaux sons de conduite, effets sonores et signaux du paysage sonore BMW HypersonX, créé spécialement pour la Neue Klasse, jouent également un rôle de taille.

Les sièges au design élégant et minimaliste se distinguent par leur excellent niveau de confort sur les longs trajets, leur caractère sportif et leurs nombreuses possibilités de réglages. Le volant et la console centrale entre le siège conducteur et le siège passager avant, avec leurs espaces de rangement et leurs éléments de commande, ont également été entièrement redessinés. La banquette arrière offre une surface d’assise unique, digne d’un canapé.

Des univers intérieurs soigneusement agencés apportent un caractère unique et distinctif à chaque équipement. Les matériaux et les combinaisons de couleurs choisis s’inspirent du design intérieur moderne et de la technologie avancée de la Neue Klasse, et se coordonnent harmonieusement les uns avec les autres. Ils contribuent ainsi de manière notable et visible aux niveaux de confort exceptionnels à bord du nouveau BMW iX3. Une gamme de couleurs attrayante permet d’assortir parfaitement les teintes intérieures et les peintures extérieures. En alternative à la finition intérieure Essential de série en Vivid Grey avec revêtements de sièges Econeer, les clients peuvent également faire leur choix parmi trois autres compositions en Veganza, l’univers intérieur BMW M noir en Veganza et M PerformTex, ainsi que l’option BMW Individual avec une combinaison haut de gamme de cuir Merino/M PerformTex en Black Bicolour ou Adelaide Grey.

Le nouveau BMW iX3 peut être équipé en option du pack M Sport ou du pack M Sport Pro dès son lancement. Son look dynamique est encore accentué par des éléments extérieurs en noir brillant, des sièges M Sport et un volant M à l’intérieur de la voiture.

Le pack extérieur BMW Iconic Glow propose une séquence sonore et lumineuse impressionnante avec des styles Relaxed, Balanced et Excited. La séquence d’accueil commence dès que le conducteur s’approche du véhicule et, lorsqu’il prend place, un message d’accueil animé s’affiche sur le BMW Panoramic Vision et le Central Display, s’étendant en douceur du côté conducteur du poste de conduite au côté passager avant.

BMW Panoramic iDrive : une concentration totale sur le conducteur, dans le plus pur style BMW.

Le BMW iX3 est le premier modèle de série dans lequel le BMW Panoramic iDrive redéfinit l’expérience utilisateur et par conséquent, le pur plaisir de conduire. Grâce à son équilibre judicieux entre les fonctions numériques et les éléments physiques, le système BMW Panoramic iDrive élève le fonctionnement intuitif, selon le principe légendaire de BMW « mains sur le volant, yeux sur la route » à un niveau supérieur de concentration sur le conducteur. L’ensemble du système est le fruit de plusieurs décennies d’expérience et d’une approche de design centrée sur l’utilisateur. Les retours clients individuels, les données provenant de plus de 10 millions de véhicules connectés et les études d’utilisabilité menées auprès de plus de 3 000 clients ont tous été intégrés dans le processus de développement. Les commandes physiques sont à portée de main, notamment pour les essuie-glaces, les clignotants, les rétroviseurs extérieurs, le réglage du volume, le sélecteur de vitesse, le frein de stationnement, les feux de détresse, le chauffage de la lunette arrière et la fonction de dégivrage. D’autres fonctions ont été optimisées pour une utilisation par commande vocale et tactile ou via le volant multifonctions.

Le BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant a été considérablement amélioré et comprend désormais deux nouvelles voix, une nouvelle apparence pour le BMW Panoramic Vision et une assistance supplémentaire pour le conducteur grâce à des suggestions proactives et des routines personnalisables. La technologie Large Language Model (LLM) sera également progressivement introduite afin de permettre une interaction vocale encore plus intuitive à l’avenir.

Le BMW Panoramic iDrive réunit quatre éléments centraux dans un système d'affichage et de contrôle/commande unique. Le BMW Panoramic Vision projette les informations sur toute la largeur du pare-brise, d’un montant A à l’autre. Le contenu au centre et du côté passager avant peut être adapté aux goûts et exigences personnels. Les informations de conduite clés apparaissent dans le champ de vision du conducteur. Et au-dessus du BMW Panoramic Vision, le BMW 3D Head-Up Display (si spécifié) peut désormais afficher des informations de navigation et de conduite automatisée intégrées sur la route avec une profondeur spatiale. Le Central Display au design épuré avec technologie de rétro-éclairage matriciel est situé dans une position ergonomique idéale à côté du volant. Côté conducteur, des widgets disposés verticalement permettent d’accéder rapidement et directement aux fonctions les plus fréquemment utilisées grâce à la technologie QuickSelect. Le nouveau volant multifonctions fait office de point de commande physique principal. Ses boutons aident le conducteur et le véhicule à travailler en symbiose grâce à des éclairages, une surface en relief et un retour haptique.

Le BMW Panoramic iDrive repose sur le tout nouveau BMW Operating System X, qui offre un large éventail de possibilités de personnalisation via le BMW ID, une assistance intelligente au conducteur, une grande variété de fonctions numériques, une connectivité étendue grâce à l'application My BMW et une expérience exceptionnelle grâce aux BMW Software Updates.

Le système de navigation BMW Maps de série intègre une mise à niveau pour un guidage routier optimisé pour la recharge, ainsi qu’une présentation intelligemment coordonnée des informations sur le BMW Panoramic Vision, le Central Display et le 3D Head-Up Display en option. La BMW Digital Key Plus peut être configurée sur les smartphones et les montres connectées de tous les plus grands fabricants, également de série. Par ailleurs, le BMW Operating System X propose une multitude de divertissements sur la route et pendant les pauses recharge, offrant aux clients non seulement des applications de streaming musical telles que Spotify et des jeux embarqués avec AirConsole, mais aussi une application de streaming vidéo donnant accès à Disney+, YouTube et d'autres plateformes de vidéo à la demande et en direct internationales/de nombreux pays. L’application Zoom pour les appels vidéo est désormais également disponible.

Le BMW ConnectedDrive Store donne un aperçu des fonctionnalités que les clients peuvent actuellement télécharger ou auxquelles ils peuvent accéder, et celles-ci peuvent être ajoutées facilement et en toute flexibilité via les mises à niveau ConnectedDrive. Par exemple, plus de 60 applications tierces dans les catégories musique et audio, divertissement, jeux, actualités, voyages et destinations sont disponibles dans le monde entier. Pour télécharger les fonctionnalités et utiliser les applications, les clients doivent disposer d’une connexion via BMW Digital Premium ou un réseau WiFi/hotspot smartphone. La gamme de fonctionnalités BMW Digital Premium que les clients peuvent ajouter à leur guise comprend des fonctions de sécurité étendues, des fonctionnalités de navigation étendues, des données illimitées pour le divertissement et désormais aussi les applications BMW M.

Technologie BMW eDrive de sixième génération : plus d’efficacité, plus d’autonomie, recharge plus rapide.

La technologie BMW eDrive de sixième génération développée pour la Neue Klasse comprend des moteurs électriques hautement efficaces, des batteries haute tension totalement inédites à cellules cylindriques, ainsi qu’une technologie 800 V. La BMW iX3 50 xDrive est alimentée par deux moteurs électriques qui génèrent ensemble une puissance de 345 kW/469 ch et un couple de 645 Nm (475 lb-pi). Elle accélère de 0 à 100 km/h (62 mph) en 4,9 secondes et atteint une vitesse de pointe de 210 km/h (130 mph). Sa configuration de transmission intégrale électrique se compose d’un moteur synchrone à excitation électrique (EESM) considérablement amélioré, avec des niveaux d’efficacité particulièrement élevés sur l’essieu arrière et, sur l’essieu avant, d’un nouveau moteur asynchrone (ASM) qui se distingue par sa conception compacte et sa rentabilité élevée. La combinaison de l’EESM et de l’ASM témoigne également de l’engagement du BMW Group en faveur de la neutralité technologique dans le domaine de la mobilité électrique. La technologie d’entraînement développée pour la Neue Klasse réduit les pertes d’énergie de 40 % par rapport à la technologie BMW eDrive de cinquième génération, le poids de 10 % et les coûts de fabrication de 20 %.

Le nouveau concept de batterie haute tension à cellules cylindriques pour la Neue Klasse réalise également des avancées significatives. La densité énergétique au niveau des cellules est 20 % supérieure à celle de la technologie BMW eDrive de cinquième génération, et ce nouveau concept ouvre également la voie à une hausse de 30 % de la vitesse de recharge. Les cellules cylindriques sont directement intégrées à la batterie haute tension (« cell to pack »), ce qui améliore la densité énergétique et la rentabilité. En outre, la batterie haute tension est intégrée à l’architecture du véhicule en tant que composant structurel pour minimiser le poids (« pack to open body »). La batterie haute tension de la BMW iX3 50 xDrive affiche une énergie utilisable de 108,7 kWh, permettant une autonomie allant jusqu’à 805 kilomètres (500 miles) en cycle WLTP.

BMW Charging : temps de recharge courts, une première pour la recharge bidirectionnelle.

Les avancées apportées par la technologie BMW eDrive de sixième génération ont également une influence significative sur l'expérience de recharge. Un taux de recharge maximal de 400 kW permet aux utilisateurs de recharger leur nouveau BMW iX3 avec suffisamment d’énergie sur une borne de recharge rapide à courant continu (CC) de 800 V pour accumuler jusqu’à 372 kilomètres (231 miles)[1] d’autonomie en dix minutes seulement. La batterie haute tension peut être rechargée de 10 à 80 % de sa capacité en 21 minutes. Grâce à la technologie de gestion de la batterie avec matrice de commutation intégrée développée en interne par le BMW Group, la nouvelle BMW iX3 peut également être rechargée sur des bornes 400 V CC. Les améliorations apportées à la préparation de la batterie permettent également de réduire les temps de recharge. Le nouveau BMW iX3 50 xDrive peut être rechargé en courant alternatif (CA) à 11 kW de série ou à 22 kW [2] en option.

De nombreuses fonctions de recharge bidirectionnelles [3] sont également disponibles pour le nouveau BMW iX3, ce qui signifie que le véhicule peut être utilisé comme source d’énergie pour diverses applications.

La sélection d’accessoires de recharge de série et en option a été considérablement élargie. Pour une recharge flexible pendant un trajet, les clients peuvent faire appel au nouveau chargeur multifonction, livré avec plusieurs adaptateurs pour recharger et décharger la batterie haute tension. La nouvelle BMW Wallbox Professional (CC) permet une recharge bidirectionnelle à domicile ou au travail. De plus, BMW Charging offre la possibilité d’une recharge à domicile optimisée en termes de coûts/d’énergie solaire. Emblématique de l’expérience de recharge de cette nouvelle génération de véhicules, la trappe de recharge intelligente du nouveau BMW iX3 utilise l’intelligence artificielle (IA) pour détecter l’intention du client de recharger sa voiture, puis s’ouvre ou se ferme automatiquement. La technologie BMW eDrive de sixième génération permet de visualiser la vitesse et la courbe de recharge actuelles dans l’application My BMW. Il est possible d’afficher numériquement jusqu’à dix contrats de recharge individuels de différents fournisseurs à l’intérieur du nouveau BMW iX3, ce qui permet d’utiliser la fonction Plug & Charge Multi Contract.

Heart of Joy : le pur plaisir de conduire atteint de nouveaux sommets.

L’un des quatre « supercerveaux » de l’architecture électronique de la Neue Klasse, baptisé « Heart of Joy », supervise la gestion de la transmission et de la dynamique de conduite. Cette unité de commande hautes performances est responsable des sous-fonctions de la transmission, des freins, de la récupération d’énergie et de la direction, et traite les informations jusqu’à dix fois plus rapidement que les unités de commande classiques. Ainsi, le potentiel de la mobilité électrique en termes de fourniture instantanée de puissance, de transfert de puissance fluide, d’agilité, de stabilité et d’efficacité est pleinement exploité.

Associé à la pile logicielle BMW Dynamic Performance Control développée entièrement en interne, le Heart of Joy calcule tous les paramètres de dynamique de conduite avec un niveau de vitesse et de précision inédit. Ici, les décennies d'expérience de BMW dans le domaine du contrôle de la dynamique de conduite prennent tout leur sens. Le conducteur et les passagers du nouveau BMW iX3 bénéficient de sensations de conduite uniques, harmonieuses et typiques de BMW, quelles que soient la situation et la vitesse. Chaque mouvement de l’accélérateur, de la pédale de frein et de la direction est exécuté directement, avec assurance et précision. Parmi ses autres atouts, citons une traction exceptionnelle et, grâce à la fonction Soft Stop unique, le freinage le plus doux jamais réalisé par une BMW. En outre, l’efficacité du nouveau BMW iX3 est optimisée par la gestion intégrée de la transmission, du système de freinage et de la récupération d’énergie. En conduite quotidienne, 98 % des manœuvres de freinage sont effectuées uniquement par récupération, c’est-à-dire sans utiliser les freins à friction.

Un autre ordinateur hautes performances réunit toutes les fonctions de conduite et de stationnement automatisées du BMW iX3. Fort d’une puissance de traitement 20 fois supérieure à celle des unités de commande traditionnelles, le « superbrain of automated driving » permet à la Neue Klasse de réaliser une avancée technologique significative dans ce domaine également.

BMW Symbiotic Drive offre un soutien sans faille.

Le BMW iX3 utilise sa capacité Symbiotic Drive combinée à l’assistance au conducteur pour créer une expérience de conduite totalement inédite. Dès que le conducteur souhaite accélérer, freiner ou tourner, ses actions fusionnent de manière transparente et intuitive avec un logiciel basé sur l’IA. Le résultat : une toute nouvelle forme de pur plaisir de conduire. Ces fonctions d’aide à la conduite sont généralement déjà incluses de série dans le modèle d’entrée de gamme. Par exemple, le régulateur de vitesse automatique ne se désactive pas d’une simple pression sur la pédale de frein, mais uniquement lorsque le conducteur freine plus fort. L’Assistant BMW Highway perfectionné aide les conducteurs du BMW iX3 dès leur entrée sur l'autoroute et jusqu'à leur sortie, leur permettant de lâcher le volant pendant de longues périodes.

Nouvelle architecture électronique avec quatre « supercerveaux ».

L’architecture électronique entièrement repensée comprend au total quatre ordinateurs haute performance appelés « supercerveaux ». Ils mettent en commun leur puissance de traitement pour la dynamique de conduite, la conduite automatisée, l’infodivertissement et les fonctions de base et d’amélioration du confort. Ils constituent également la base d’une nouvelle architecture logicielle pouvant être mise à niveau en continu et donc conçue pour intégrer les prochaines mises à jour de fonctions, y compris les fonctionnalités d’IA.

Ce nouveau système nerveux numérique est constitué d’un faisceau divisé en quatre zones. Cela permet de réduire le poids de 30 % par rapport à la technologie utilisée précédemment et d’économiser environ 600 mètres de câbles. Autre nouveauté, les « smart eFuses » numériques, qui remplacent les fusibles de sécurité classiques. Ils permettent des modes de puissance intelligents pour différents états du véhicule, ce qui contribue à optimiser l’efficacité globale de la voiture.

Avec ses quatre supercerveaux et ses plateformes logicielles hautement connectées, le BMW iX3 est un véritable véhicule défini par logiciel et exceptionnellement bien équipé pour l’avenir. En outre, la nouvelle architecture électronique constitue la base d’améliorations multiples dans la mise en réseau du BMW iX3 avec l’application My BMW. Ce niveau de qualité inédit en matière d’intégration offre de nouvelles expériences et recèle un potentiel considérable pour les innovations futures.

Équipements et personnalisation au service du plaisir de conduire, du confort et de la polyvalence.

Le nouveau BMW iX3 sera proposé dès son lancement dans une peinture unie et cinq teintes métallisées. En alternative aux jantes en alliage léger de 20 pouces de série, les clients peuvent également parcourir une sélection exclusive de nouvelles jantes en alliage léger (20, 21 et 22 pouces) disponibles en option. La gamme comprend en outre des jantes en alliage léger BMW M et BMW Individual, certaines dans une version Air Performance optimisée en termes d’aérodynamique et de poids.

Les clients peuvent personnaliser le design de l’habitacle selon leur style personnel à l’aide des univers de design intérieur Essential, Contemporary, M Sport et BMW Individual. Le siège conducteur et le siège passager avant sont chauffants et réglables électriquement de série. Les sièges M Sport et les sièges multifonctions sont disponibles en option. La liste d’options comprend également un volant sport et un volant M Sport.

Le nouveau BMW iX3 50 xDrive est également équipé de série d'une climatisation automatique à deux zones, de l’Accès confort, d'un hayon automatique, du pack rétroviseurs extérieurs étendu, d'un système d'alarme et de la téléphonie avec fonction de recharge sans fil. Parmi les autres points forts de l’offre d’équipements optionnels, citons la climatisation automatique à trois zones, les fonctions de phares adaptatifs avec contrôle intelligent de la lumière, le pack BMW Iconic Glow comprenant des naseaux BMW éclairés, le système HiFi Harman Kardon avec 13 haut-parleurs, le chauffage du volant et un grand toit panoramique, dont le vitrage confort climatique est doté d’un filtrage unique de l’énergie solaire et d’une protection UV à 100 %.

Approche holistique ciblant la circularité et la réduction du CO₂.

Le BMW Group a lancé le développement de sa prochaine génération de véhicules en intensifiant une fois de plus ses efforts pour accroître la circularité et réduire les émissions de CO₂. Une approche holistique visant à minimiser l’empreinte carbone du produit a également été appliquée au nouveau BMW iX3, du développement de produits axés sur la circularité à une chaîne d’approvisionnement optimisée par l’utilisation systématique de matériaux secondaires et d’énergie renouvelable jusqu’à la production, la phase d’utilisation du véhicule et son recyclage ultérieur.

Diverses mesures garantissent que l'empreinte carbone du nouveau BMW iX3 50 xDrive sur l'ensemble de son cycle de vie, mesurée en CO₂e (équivalents CO₂) et sur la base d'un kilométrage de 200 000 kilomètres (124 260 miles), est inférieure de 34 % à celle de son prédécesseur. Cela signifie qu’en utilisant l’énergie issue du mix électrique européen, le véhicule aura une empreinte carbone produit plus faible (sur l'ensemble du cycle de vie) qu’un modèle thermique comparable après avoir parcouru environ 21 500 kilomètres (13 358 miles). Si la voiture est rechargée exclusivement avec de l’électricité issue de sources renouvelables, il ne lui faudra parcourir que 17 500 kilomètres (10 873 miles) pour atteindre le même résultat.

Environ un tiers du nouveau BMW iX3 est fabriqué à partir de matières premières secondaires. Par exemple, les composants thermoplastiques du compartiment moteur, l’espace de rangement sous le capot et son couvercle sont fabriqués à partir de 30 %[4] de plastique marin recyclé. Le fil utilisé pour le dessus des sièges Econeer est composé à 100 %[5] de PET recyclé, tandis que le fil employé pour la garniture de pavillon et des tapis de sol est fabriqué à 100 %[6] en matériaux recyclés. En ce qui concerne le châssis de la voiture, l'aluminium utilisé pour les paliers pivotants et les supports de moyeu est composé à 80 % de matières premières secondaires, tandis que les jantes sont moulées à partir d'aluminium contenant 70 % de matières secondaires.

L’empreinte carbone globale des produits de la chaîne d’approvisionnement du BMW iX3 50 xDrive a été réduite de 35 %. La production à l’usine de BMW Group de Debrecen n’utilise pas de combustibles fossiles en fonctionnement normal. Et grâce à la technologie BMW eDrive de sixième génération et à d'autres mesures BMW EfficientDynamics, l'efficacité globale du nouveau BMW iX3 en phase d'utilisation est environ 20 % supérieure à celle du modèle précédent.

Une technologie pionnière au service du plaisir de conduire ultime : essais des prototypes BMW iX3.

Munich/Miramas. The development of the first Neue Klasse series production model is on the finishing straight: prototypes of the next-generation BMW iX3 are currently undergoing extensive testing in Miramas, southern France. The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich in September and roll off the production line at the new BMW Group plant in Debrecen (Hungary) starting at the end of the year. “Longer range, faster charging, an all-new display and operating concept, and the intelligence of four superbrains are the distinguishing features of the Neue Klasse. With the upcoming BMW iX3 – the first model of the new car generation – we are introducing fundamental technology upgrades with the clear aim of raising the typical BMW driving pleasure to a whole new level,” says Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW. “With the all-new BMW iX3, we bring our revolutionary technologyies into series production for the first time, and we can hardly wait to see it in action on the road. All future BMW models, regardless of powertrain type, will benefit from the innovations and technology clusters of the Neue Klasse."

The new technologies at a glance:

The revolutionary display and operating concept BMW Panoramic iDrive provides perfect driver orientation and sets yet another new benchmark.
Charge faster, drive further: the all-electric 6th generation powertrain (Gen6) sets standards in performance and efficiency. The new BMW iX3 50 xDrive has an electric range of up to 800km (WLTP)*(CLTC: 900km* / EPA 400 mls*) and can be charged to provide a range of more than 350km maximum in just 10 minutes*.
The Heart of Joy control computer and the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack raise the dynamic potential of electric powertrains to a new level.

BMW Panoramic iDrive: “Hands on the Wheel, Eyes on the Road”.

The BMW Panoramic iDrive shows all relevant driving information in the driver’s ideal line of sight and maximizes ergonomic efficiency and safety. Four elements come together to make a unique user experience:

BMW Panoramic Vision: information is projected onto a black printed surface in the windscreen from A-pillar to A-pillar.
3D Head-Up Display: the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display projects information for navigation and automated driving into the driver’s direct field of vision above the BMW Panoramic Vision Display.
Central Display with matrix backlight technology: the free-cut-design display is in an ergonomically ideal position near the steering wheel.
Shy-tech multifunction steering wheel: buttons are illuminated when functions are available; relief-like structure and active haptic feedback enable intuitive operation without the driver having to take his or her eyes off the road.

The BMW Panoramic iDrive runs under the BMW Operating System X, also a new development. It offers extensive customizability, intelligent support for the driver and extensive software updates. BMW’s motto “Hands on the Wheel, Eyes on the Road” is redefined with a well-balanced mix of physical controls and digital functions. BMW Panoramic iDrive will ensure user-friendly and intuitive operation in every vehicle segment and with every powertrain concept.

Next generation of electric powertrains. The high-voltage battery concept for the 6th generation of BMW eDrive technology (Gen6) is fundamentally new, and together with the revised electric drive system portfolio, offers an optimum solution for all vehicle segments. The Gen6 system will be making its debut in the BMW iX3 and will then be rolled out across all vehicle segments.
The centerpiece of the high-voltage battery – the BMW cylindrical battery cell – has an energy density of 20 per cent greater that the prismatic cells previously used. The cells are integrated directly into the high-voltage battery, which plays an important role in the body structure of Neue Klasse models.

Charge faster, drive further.
The Gen6 introduces a major leap forward for our customers and the BMW iX3 is the first to benefit. With 400kW maximum charging, our customers can add over 350km* maximum (WLTP) to their vehicle’s range in just 10 minutes. Gen6 technology allows users to monitor the charging performance and curve live via the My BMW App. 800V technology is paving the way for rapid charging. Charging at 400V DC charging stations will, of course, still be possible.
The high energy content of the high-voltage battery, together with the efficient design of the powertrain and the overall vehicle, enables a range of up to 800km (WLTP).

Further charging-related innovations.
Making the charging process even more user friendly is the intelligent charging flap, which detects when the driver is intending to stop to charge the car and opens (and then closes) automatically. One of the triggers for opening the flap is AI-assisted: if the customer approaches a familiar or learned charging point, the progress towards it reveals an intention to charge and the flap opens.

The SoP of the new BMW iX3 will also introduce extensive bidirectional charging functions – to-Load, to-Home and to-Grid:
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) turns the vehicle into a powerful mobile powerbank (up to 3.7kW in Europe) and supplies energy for one or several consumers, wherever customers need it. Bidirectional charging capability turns the BMW iX3 into an at-home energy storage unit. Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) helps customers to reduce costs. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) sets new standards for the integration of the vehicle into the energy market. Both functions contribute to lowering emissions and increasing the use of regenerative energy sources. In this way, the BMW Group demonstrates that it is part of the solution as we work towards energy transformation.

Providing the key to bidirectional charging alongside the technology involved, the new BMW Wallbox (DC) offers 19.2kW charging and discharging depending on the market. The BMW charging equipment has been redesigned and is now easier to use, and now also includes selected adapters e.g. for vehicle-to-load (V2L) use cases.

The BMW driving experience with the Heart of Joy. The level in sheer driving pleasure.
The "superbrain" Heart of Joy in the Neue Klasse raises driving dynamics to a new level. Together with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack, the Heart of Joy is pivotal to powertrain, brakes, recuperation and sub-functions of the steering system. It processes information ten times faster* than previous systems and therefore responds more directly than ever to the driver’s command.

Fewer control inputs are required, directional stability is more precise and stable. As a result, the vehicle develops consistent and reproducible cornering characteristics and can be steered intuitively.

Powertrain and braking functions also work together harmoniously to decelerate the vehicle. Recuperation can be used across the whole speed range down to a standstill. Indeed, in 98 percent of cases, the vehicle can be brought to a standstill without applying the friction brakes – without noise or jolts.

The Heart of Joy and BMW Dynamic Performance Control raise the BMW driving experience to a new level – from standstill to dynamic limits.

Further development of driver assistance systems using the intelligent high-performance computer “Superbrain of Automated Driving”
BMW Group’s latest driver assistance systems are among the world’s best. The new BMW iX3 ushers in the rollout of the next technology generation. This is in keeping with BMW’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) philosophy: “Always smart, symbiotic, and safe”.

The BMW Group merges the proven, rule-based assistance system with a new system based on AI. In an optimum symbiosis, this combination supports the driver even more precisely and reliably in challenging situations on the road. The Superbrain of Automated Driving pools all customer functions for automated driving and has a 20 times faster processing speed than the previous system. The new automated driving and parking functions are based on cutting-edge sensor, software, processor, and mobile communications technology.

The basic model of the BMW iX3 offers functions like lane change warning, road priority warning, safe exit, and assisted view. Safe exit uses side-mounted radars to monitor traffic next to the car while stopping and warns the driver of approaching objects. The new Assisted View shows the latest driving situation precisely and in detail alternatively in the Central Display, the Panoramic Vision, or 3D Head-Up Display. The motorway assistant with automatic lane change will be available with extended features in the BMW iX3. Upon request, it can assist drivers from when they join a motorway to when they leave it and allow drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel for long periods. This assistant remains active even during automated motorway changes along an active navigation route. The new Motorway & City Assistant helps the driver in complex driving situations in urban areas, e.g. through tight corners or roundabouts. It brakes automatically at red traffic lights and moves off again or sounds an audible signal when lights turn green.

Symbiotic driver assistance, as it is known, enables perfect interaction between tech and driver regarding both comfort and safety functions, and creates a seamless transition between cooperative steering and – a world first – cooperative braking.

When the function is active, the driver can influence the system at any time without causing the assistant to be switched off by turning the steering wheel or applying brakes just a little in order to adjust the responses of the system.

The parking functions can be activated intuitively and offer an AI-based selection of parking assistance services, parking space recognition, maneuver planning, and an improved parking experience. Extended monitoring functions help the driver to avoid damage to the vehicle while parking the car.

Neue Klasse innovations are AI-based, smart and update-compatible. Thanks to the all-new electronics and software architecture with four superbrains (high-performance computers), the new BMW iX3 is now noticeably more intelligent in everyday situations – e.g. with the advanced driver assistance systems and improved voice assistant BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Due to the powerful BMW Cloud, the new electronics and software architecture of the new vehicle generation is ready for numerous smart features, which customers can benefit from via over-the-air updates after the market launch.

A large number of the patent applications filed by BMW in recent years have come about as part of the development of technologies for the Neue Klasse – e.g. in the projection technology for the BMW Panoramic Vision, in the innovative control functions of the Heart of Joy, in the battery management and cell contacting system of the high-voltage battery, in the new electric motor, and in the new, zonal vehicle electrical system.
