Munich/Arjeplog. The BMW 3 Series has been the embodiment of driving pleasure in the premium midsize class for five decades. All over the world, this icon of the BMW brand is renowned for its superior sportiness, precise handling and effortless agility, combined with long-distance driving comfort. As the latest generation BMW 3 Series is getting ready for launch, so is the first sedan model of the Neue Klasse: the fully electric BMW i3. Prototypes are currently undergoing a comprehensive test programme at the BMW Group winter test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden.

The BMW i3 will have its design premiere on 18 March 2026. The new fully electric model generation features a sixth-generation eDrive (Gen6). “The BMW i3 applies the sporty sedan’s typical characteristics to a completely new vehicle concept defined by the BMW 3 Series DNA. At the same time, pushing the conventional boundaries of electric mobility into new territory, thanks to the potential of our Neue Klasse,” says Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW. The control unit consisting of the “superbrain” Heart of Joy and the BMW Dynamic Performance Control driving stack takes driving dynamics to an entirely new level. As the BMW i3 approaches series-production readiness, the test and development team is performing the final fine-tuning of driving dynamics components on the snow-covered roads and frozen lakes of Sweden.

Test drives for fine-tuning in extremely cold weather are a key part of vehicle testing. 
Endurance tests in freezing temperatures and wintry road conditions in Sweden’s extreme north are a long-standing BMW tradition. The snow-covered roads around Arjeplog and the specially prepared surfaces of frozen lakes provide the ideal environment for evaluating and fine-tuning drive and suspension systems Electronic control systems are a good example – the low friction coefficients of surfaces covered by snow and ice enable engineers to test, analyse and optimise the interactions of these systems under precisely reproducible conditions. This provides the foundation of the hallmark BMW driving pleasure. 

Highly innovative overall concept is key to an outstanding driving experience.
The Heart of Joy is one of four “superbrains” in the Neue Klasse. Complemented by the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software developed in-house, it forms the powerful new driving and dynamics control unit in the BMW i3, controlling the powertrain, brakes and some steering functions along with recuperation. Its responses are ten times faster than with previous systems. The result of this technological quantum leap is evident in the particularly effortless and exceptionally precise handling of the new BMW i3.

Even on slippery surfaces like those in Arjeplog, the Heart of Joy ensures agile propulsion. In addition, the extremely fast control of the two electric motors ensures superior driving stability. Only electric motors are capable of processing and executing the lightning-fast commands. This enables the BMW i3 to deliver a light-footed and comfortable drive in every situation. And with typical BMW 3 Series characteristics, it sets new standards in driving dynamics.

Even at the limits, the BMW i3 offers an extremely safe driving experience.
The new BMW i3 can be controlled with maximum precision. It responds instantly to steering inputs and creates a feeling of effortlessness. The Heart of Joy reduces the number of control interventions required – for example by the DSC system. The resulting cornering behaviour is more consistent and reproducible, giving the driver an even greater sense of assurance. In addition, the BMW i3 remains easy to control even when approaching the limits. The Soft-Stop function of the new BMW i3 is exceptional: precise control of the electric motors enables the smoothest stopping process in the history of the BMW 3 Series, without jerks and brake noise. The exceptional stability that the Heart of Joy provides, even on slippery surfaces like those found in Arjeplog, also improves efficiency. The precise control processes of the Heart of Joy allow the BMW i3 to recuperate energy as often and as intensely as possible, even when cornering, without compromising driving stability. “Sheer driving pleasure” redefined.

Munich. The sales launch of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 in November 2021 marks the beginning of a new era of purely electric premium mobility. In addition to sustainable driving pleasure, the two new models also offer the latest innovations in the field of driver assistance systems and, with the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system, represent the future of intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. Parallel to this, the BMW model range will also undergo targeted further development in autumn 2021. Additional drive variants and innovations in the areas of design and digital services increase the diversity and attractiveness of the current range.

The model range of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will be expanded by three new drive variants from November 2021. In future, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission will be standard equipment for one additional model variant each of the BMW X1 and the BMW X2. New paint finishes are available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 models. The functional scope of the My BMW App is complemented by further digital services. The BMW i brand is not only setting trends with its two new models. The pioneer of all-electric premium mobility, the BMW i3, will be offered in a limited Unique Forever Edition from November 2021. And in the BMW iX3, a predictive battery heat management system will optimise the way in which DC fast charging stations will be used in the future.

BMW 4 Series Convertible: Two additional BMW M automobiles and a further all-wheel drive model.
The combination of sporty performance and open-air pleasure in a BMW 4 Series model will be enriched even further in autumn 2021. In the new BMW M 440i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 190 - 175 g/km according to WLTP), a 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensures particularly purist driving pleasure by transferring its power to the rear wheels. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential in the final drive also contribute to the thrilling driving dynamics as standard. This is reflected, among other things, by accerlation from 0 - 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

An inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system make the second new BMW M automobile a thrilling open-top drive. With a peak output of 250 kW/340 hp, a maximum torque of 700 Nm and 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the new BMW M440d xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 172 - 157 g/km according to WLTP) has impressive pulling power. 5.0 seconds are sufficient for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential are also standard equipment in this model variant.

In addition, the model range for the open-top four-seater in the premium mid-size segment is expanded to include the new BMW 430i xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 – 7.3 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 183 - 166 g/km according to WLTP). With its 180 kW/245 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and the M sports differential are optionally available for this model.

BMW X1 xDrive18d and BMW X2 xDrive18d now feature 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Driving pleasure and comfort will be enhanced in autumn 2021 as the 8-speed Steptronic transmission is included in further model variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 as standard. The fast and efficient automatic transmission is characterised by a high level of shifting comfort and a particularly favourable internal efficiency. In future, it will also be available as standard with the 110 kW/150 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine of the BMW X1 xDrive18d models (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 142 g/km according to WLTP) and the BMW X2 xDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 142 g/km according to WLTP).

With the new drive combination, both models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. An optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available, operated by paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

New paint finishes for numerous model series.
New paint finishes for numerous current BMW models allow for additional customisation opportunities. The Skyscraper Grey metallic variant will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 from November 2021. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as Aventurine Red metallic for the BMW X3 and the BMW X4.

My BMW App with extended range of functions.
Planning travel routes and transferring them to the car, receiving information about the car’ status and live images from its surroundings, arranging service appointments or receiving news from the brand - the My BMW app makes all this possible on the customer's smartphone. It serves as a universal interface for communication between car and customer, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. The range of functions of the My BMW App will be expanded again in autumn 2021. In future, for example, the images transmitted by the Remote 3D View service will be stored in a gallery, including information about the location and time of the shots. The status of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation is now also clearly displayed in the My BMW app.

In addition, the My BMW app now also provides drivers with comprehensive information on the condition of the vehicle's tyres on their smartphone. This new feature helps to minimise the risk of breakdowns and is available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4 as well as the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. The My BMW app displays the wheel-specific values as measured by the tyre pressure system. In addition, the digital tyre diagnosis, which is unique in the competitive environment, can also transmit information about a defect or wear of the tyres via the My BMW app. In the BMW backend, the data from the tyre pressure control system is processed together with the values for temperature and wheel speeds to create a forecast of the remaining life of the tyres. As a supplement to tyre pressure control, indications of tyre damage are also registered.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW iX3.
To ensure the fastest and most efficient power feed at DC fast-charging stations, regardless of operating and outside temperatures, the BMW iX3 (combined power consumption: 19.0 - 18.6 L/100 km according to WLTP, 18.5 - 18.9 L/100 km according to NEDC) will be equipped with intelligent thermal management for the high-voltage battery as in the BMW i4 / BMW iX from November 2021. As soon as the active route guidance of the navigation system foresees a stopover at a High Power Charging Station, it already ensures that the battery is automatically preconditioned before arrival.

The appropriate heating or cooling ensures that the high-voltage battery is at the ideal temperature for charging at maximum power on arrival. The thermal management takes into account, among other things, the battery temperature, the remaining range, the predicted charging power and the planned scope of the charging process as part of the overall route calculation.

BMW i3 and BMW i3s in the Unique Forever Edition.
From November 2021, the BMW i3 models (combined electricity consumption: 16.3 - 15.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 13.1 L/100 km according to NEDC and BMW i3s (combined electricity consumption: 16.6 - 16.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 14.6 - 14.0 L/100 km according to NEDC) in the Unique Forever Edition. The naming of the new special edition refers to the unique character of the world's first premium automobile designed from the outset for purely electric mobility. The BMW i3 represents a holistic understanding of sustainability not only with its drive system, but also with its particularly lightweight passenger cell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and extensive use of natural and recycled materials in its interior. Eight years after being launched on the market, it is still a globally recognised symbol of locally emission-free urban mobility.

The edition vehicles are characterised by particularly high-grade and exclusive design and equipment features. The two BMW Individual paint finishes, available for the first time for the BMW i3, ensure a stylish appearance. The Aventurine Red metallic variant is combined with an accent in Frozen Grey metallic and the Storm Bay metallic paint finish with an accent in Frozen E-Copper. The interior surfaces of the BMW grille are also finished in the respective accent colour. Other special features include the omission of the trim strip and model lettering on the luggage compartment lid and a black insert for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the Suite equipment world - including the Vernasca Dark Truffle leather combination, the leather instrument panel, the fine wood surface in dark matt oak, the leather steering wheel, the Carum grey roof lining and the ambient lighting - are supplemented by specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the words "Unique Forever", the door trim panels in the area of the exterior mirrors bear the inscription "One of 2,000“.

The Unique Forever Edition models are produced in a limited edition of 2,000 units at the BMW plant in Leipzig. Only electricity generated by the wind turbines on the factory premises is used.

Increased efficiency through consistent electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Efficiency becomes more diverse: World premiere for five plug-in hybrid models in the BMW 5 Series.
The range of BMW models with electrified drive systems will also be consistently expanded in autumn 2020. The expanded range of the following electrified models is especially attractive: BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 53 – 49 g/km; electric range: 47 – 57 km), BMW 530e Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 46 – 42 g/km; electric range: 52 – 57 km (WLTP)) and BMW 530e xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 50 g/km; electric range: 48 – 53 km (WLTP)). The BMW 5 Series model range now already includes five plug-in hybrid variants. In the upper mid-size class, BMW offers the largest selection of models with electrified drive.

In the new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission deliver impressive driving dynamics in a particularly efficient manner. The power of the two drive units adds up to a maximum system output of 290 kW/394 hp and is distributed between the front and rear wheels as required by the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. The brand’s hallmark combination of energy efficiency and sportiness also characterises the new Touring models, whose plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive system also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they generate a system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp in the XtraBoost mode when load requirements are particularly high.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series.
With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional models, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. This is linked to the introduction of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder diesel engines. As of autumn 2020, four mid-size models of the BMW 3 Series and three luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series will offer noticeably more dynamic performance and increased efficiency.

This twofold and BMW typical progress is achieved through further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and additionally with the aid of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency. The power required for this is generated by intensive recuperation in braking and thrust phases and stored in a 48-volt battery, which also supplies the vehicle’s electrical system.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used in four further BMW 3 Series models from November 2020. In the new BMW 330d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 125 – 116 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 132 – 123 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 119 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 4.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 136 – 127 g/km), it supports the new inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, which already provides additional driving pleasure with its maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp. Thanks to a two-stage turbocharging system and an advanced common rail injection system whose piezo injectors now inject the fuel with up to ten injections per working cycle and a maximum pressure of 2 700 bar into the combustion chambers, engine response and efficiency of the 3.0 litre engine are optimised. The new diesel engine generates its maximum torque, which has been increased by 30 to 650 Nm, between 1 500 and 2 500 rpm. The increased power of the combustion engine and the additional electrical power noticeably improve the car’s sprint capacity. For example, the new BMW 330d Sedan improves its acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds to now 5.3 seconds.

In the BMW 8 Series, 48-volt mild hybrid technology is combined with an equally new and even more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine. The BMW 840d xDrive Coupé models (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 154 - 146 g/km), BMW 840d xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 6.0 – 5.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 151 g/km) and BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 155 - 148 g/km) will be powered by a 250 kW/340 hp inline 6-cylinder engine in the future. The 15 kW/20 hp increase in top-level output also results from further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It now includes a multi-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for the high-pressure and low-pressure stages. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is generated alreadybetween 1 750 and 2 250 rpm. In the luxury sports car model range, the new drive technology enables the BMW 840d xDrive Coupé, for example, to improve its acceleration figure from a standing start to 100 km/h by 0.1 seconds to 4.8 seconds. The optimised performance characteristics of the diesel engine are accompanied by precisely adapted fine tuning of the chassis and its control systems.

The new diesel engines for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 8 Series also represent the latest state of the art with regard to emissions. They feature exhaust gas treatment technology, whose engine-proximate components consist of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. In order to optimally reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, a second metering unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-proximate SCR system.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Additional engines and new optional extras.
New engines will be available from November 2020 for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The new BMW 116i (combined fuel consumption: 5.8 – 5.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 – 124 g/km) is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 80 kW/109 hp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm. It is equipped as standard with a manual 6-speed transmission and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available. In addition, the model range will be expanded to include the new BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 134 – 126 g/km). Its 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum output of 131 kW/178 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm and is combined as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The new BMW 120i accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outstanding economy is the hallmark of the new entry-level diesel engine for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The 3-cylinder diesel engine of the new BMW 216d Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 3.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 108 – 99 g/km) provides a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. It transmits its power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The range of optional equipment for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. With the black inserts at the upper edge of the headlamps they make the front view even more powerfully expressive.

Urban Cruise Control: Increased comfort and optimised safety when driving in urban traffic.
The increased level of comfort and safety achieved through combined speed and distance control will also be available in numerous current BMW models when driving in city traffic from autumn 2020 onwards. In conjunction with the optional Driving Assistant Professional, the Urban Cruise Control function is available in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 8 Series and the BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW M5, BMW M8, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M model series. It extends the range of functions of the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function by a traffic light recognition function. In addition to vehicles and traffic signs ahead, traffic lights registered by the stereo camera are also taken into account.

In the case of traffic light signals that are clearly related to the lane you are travelling, these are automatically registered by the speed and distance control system. If the traffic light is red, the system decelerates the vehicle to a standstill. A green light signals the continuation of the journey. In a more complex intersection situation where, for example, different light signals apply to different lanes, a traffic light symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster. The driver can then confirm the light signal shown there and continue to use the automatic speed and distance control or control the speed himself. For additional comfort in city traffic there is a drive reminder function. While stationary at a traffic light, the current traffic light phase is displayed in the instrument cluster; at the beginning of the green phase, the driver also receives a signal to start driving.

The Urban Cruise Control function can also be integrated into the car at a later date by means of a Remote Software Upgrade. With the exception of the BMW 8 Series models, this option is available for vehicles of all the above-mentioned series produced from July 2020 onwards and which are equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional.

New digital services for more driving pleasure: BMW News, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with new functions, personal profile picture and simple log-in.
The latest generation of the display and control system makes it possible to use new digital services in numerous current BMW models. The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows the driver to customise what is displayed to a very high degree. From November 2020, audio content will also be tailored to the driver’s wishes and needs with BMW News. Based on the driver’s individual interests, current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is one of the particularly innovative services that features in current models with BMW Operating System 7. The digital companion, which enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”), is constantly gaining new capabilities. From autumn 2020, the operating modes MAX eDrive and AUTO eDrive or ELECTRIC and HYBRID can also be activated in the appropriately equipped plug-in hybrid models by means of a naturally spoken instruction.

Optimised options for creating a driver profile allow further customisation opportunities. From November 2020, the driver can no longer only login by entering the BMW ID manually, but also via the My BMW App as well, making the process very convenient. A QR code generated for this purpose can be displayed on the Control Display, which can be scanned using a smartphone. The personal driver profile data can then be transferred to the vehicle. Also new: The driver can add a photo of his choice to his individual profile.

BMW X1 and BMW X2: New headlamp variants and BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features.
Adaptive LED headlights will be available for the compact BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupé from November 2020. They optimise visibility when driving at night, among other things by means of a high beam matrix function. This feature is able to increase the range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users. To achieve this, the high beam is divided into several LED segments that can be activated and deactivated independently of each other to adapt how the road is illuminated to the respective traffic situation.

In addition, the striking BMW Individual Shadow Line lights are available as a new option for the BMW X2 and the BMW X1. The sporty appearance of the BMW X2 can be further enhanced by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features. In addition to the high-gloss black side window surrounds, this option includes a black frame for the BMW kidney grille and tailpipe trims in chrome black.

New paint finishes allow for expressive individualisation.
New additions to the range of paint finishes for numerous models will be introduced in autumn 2020 allowing for even greater levels of individualisation. The new San Remo Green metallic paint finish will also be available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé in future. For the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, the colours Dravit Grey metallic and Sparkling Brown metallic have been added to the range. In addition, the BMW Individual special paintwork finishes Grigio Telesto metallic, Urban Green metallic, Frozen Black metallic, Petrol Mica metallic, Ruby Red metallic, Avus Blue metallic and British Racing Green metallic are also available for the large BMW X models. 

For the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) new paint finishes will also be available from November 2020. The purely electrically driven models will be available with paint finishes in Cashmere Silver with accents in BMW i Blue and Galvanic Gold with accents in Frozen Grey metallic and Fluid Black with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

New body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

Dans le même temps, BMW annonce le lancement commercial d’un Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) doté d’une motorisation électrique. Par ailleurs, la BMW X3, dont le succès mondial ne se dément pas, sera produite en variante hybride rechargeable à compter de décembre 2019. Elle deviendra ainsi le premier modèle de la marque à être proposé au choix avec un moteur thermique, un système hybride rechargeable, et, à partir de 2020, une motorisation 100 % électrique.

En 2018, BMW Group a encore une fois consolidé son statut de pionnier et de leader sur le marché de l’électrification automobile (source : rapport IHS Markit New Registrations 2018 du 04/01/2019). Avec une part de marché de plus de 9 %, BMW Group se place en tête du classement des constructeurs premium traditionnels de véhicules à motorisation 100 % électrique ou hybride rechargeable. L’objectif de BMW Group est de mettre en circulation plus d’un demi-million de véhicules électrifiés issus des différentes marques du groupe d’ici fin 2019.

L’offre de véhicules à motorisation électrique est unique de par le nombre de modèles proposés, mais aussi par leur variété : compactes premium, intermédiaires, intermédiaires supérieures, modèles de luxe hautes performances, voitures de sport ou encore SAV (Sports Activty Vehicles). Première mondiale : la BMW X3 xDrive30e hybride rechargeable.

BMW lancera la production d’un nouveau SAV hybride rechargeable en décembre 2019, élargissant ainsi son offre de véhicules à motorisation électrique. Présentée en exclusivité mondiale à l’occasion de l’édition 2019 du Salon de Genève, la BMW X3 xDrive30e allie la polyvalence d’un SAV intermédiaire premium aux technologies de pointe du système BMW eDrive. Outre sa fiabilité, ses performances en conduite sportive et son système de transmission intégrale BMW xDrive (qui reste actif en conduite 100 % électrique), la BMW X3x Drive30e se distingue par sa consommation de carburant particulièrement basse et ses émissions réduites. Par ailleurs, sa batterie bénéficie de technologies de pointe qui permettent à la BMW X3 xDrive30e d’afficher une autonomie électrique pouvant atteindre 50 km*. Enfin, grâce au système BMW eDrive, le SAV gagne en sobriété avec une consommation de carburant en cycle mixte pouvant atteindre 2,4 l/100 km* et des émissions de CO₂ pouvant s’établir à 56 g/km* en fonction de la situation de conduite.

Le système hybride rechargeable de la BMW X3 xDrive30e se compose d’un moteur essence quatre cylindres avec technologie BMW TwinPower Turbo et d’un moteur électrique. Le portefeuille produit de BMW Group témoigne du rôle de leader que joue le constructeur dans le domaine de l’électrification. Ainsi, à l’occasion de l’édition 2019 du Salon de Genève, BMW présentera la deuxième génération de ses modèles hybrides rechargeables dans trois segments distincts.

Comparée à la génération précédente, la nouvelle BMW 330e Berline impressionne par son autonomie électrique de 60 km*, en hausse de quelque 50 %, par sa sobriété (jusqu’à 1,7 l/100 km) et par son faible niveau d’émissions de CO₂ (jusqu’à 39 g/km*), sans jamais renier le plaisir de conduire qui a fait la renommée de la berline sportive. La motorisation hybride rechargeable de la BMW 330e Berline affiche une puissance cumulée de 185 kW/252 ch, et peut être temporairement accrue de 30 kW/41 ch en utilisant la fonction XtraBoost fournie de série. La nouvelle BMW 330e Berline peut ainsi atteindre 100 km/h départ arrêté en 6,0 secondes (valeur provisoire).

La dernière version de la BMW X5 hybride rechargeable se distingue elle aussi par un gain de puissance, d’efficience et d’autonomie. La nouvelle BMW X5 xDrive45e associe un moteur essence six cylindres en ligne spécialement adapté pour ce modèle à un moteur électrique. Résultat : une puissance cumulée désormais portée à 290 kW/394 ch qui permet au SAV d’abattre le 0 à 100 km/h en seulement 5,6 secondes (valeur provisoire). Avec une autonomie électrique de 80 km*, soit presque trois fois plus que sa devancière, la nouvelle BMW X5 xDrive45e peut facilement effectuer les trajets quotidiens en conduite 100 % électrique, sans la moindre émission de CO₂ locale. Par ailleurs, la BMW X5 xDrive45e se montre tout aussi adaptée aux trajets au long cours grâce à son réservoir de 69 litres. Les technologies de pointe mises à l’œuvre dans son système de motorisation hybride rechargeable permettent au SAV d’afficher une consommation réduite pouvant atteindre 2,1 l/100 km* et de limiter les émissions de CO₂ jusqu’à 49 g/km* en fonction de la situation de conduite. Particulièrement polyvalent, le coffre constitue un autre atout pour les longs trajets grâce à son volume utile de 500 l pouvant être porté à 1716 l : un espace à peine moins généreux que celui offert par les variantes à motorisation thermique.

Outre sa polyvalence hors du commun, la BMW X5 xDrive45e se démarque également par sa transmission intégrale intelligente BMW xDrive. Le système pilote la transmission de la motricité produite par les deux moteurs aux quatre roues pour offrir une conduite sportive riche en sensations sur route et des performances inégalées en tout-terrain.

Les variantes hybrides rechargeables de la nouvelle BMW Série 7 proposent le meilleur des deux mondes : la sportivité, le confort sur les longues distances et l’ambiance apaisante d’une berline de luxe sont ainsi associés à la conduite sobre et silencieuse d’un modèle hybride. Leur autonomie électrique, qui s’établit entre 50 et 58 km selon les modèles*, progresse de près de 30 % par rapport à la génération précédente. Les variantes hybrides rechargeables proposées sont la BMW 745e (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 2,3 – 2,1 l/100 km ; consommation électrique en cycle mixte : 15,6 – 15,1 kWh/100 km ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 52 – 48 g/km*), la version longue BMW 745Le (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 2,3 – 2,2 l/100 km ; consommation électrique en cycle mixte : 15,7 – 15,6 kWh/100 km ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 53 – 50 g/km) et la BMW 745Le xDrive (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 2,6 – 2,3 l/100 km ; consommation électrique en cycle mixte : 16,3 – 15,8 kWh/100 km ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 59 – 52 g/km*) dotée elle aussi d’un empattement allongé, mais aussi de la transmission intégrale intelligente. Le groupe motopropulseur est désormais composé d’un moteur essence six cylindres en ligne spécialement adapté pour ce modèle et d’un moteur électrique. Le mode de conduite SPORT permet au conducteur de libérer une puissance cumulée de 290 kW/394 ch. La nouvelle BMW 745e abat le 0 à 100 km/h en 5,2 secondes, la nouvelle BMW 745Le en 5,3 secondes et la nouvelle BMW 745Le xDrive en 5,1 secondes.

BMW 530e Berline et BMW 225xe Active Tourer avec batteries lithium-ion optimisées et autonomie étendue.

Grâce aux dernières avancées techniques en matière de cellules de batterie, les variantes hybrides rechargeables de la BMW Série 5 et de la BMW Série 2 offrent de nouvelles possibilités en matière de conduite sans émissions locales. Bien que ses dimensions demeurent inchangées, la nouvelle batterie lithium-ion de la variante hybride rechargeable de la BMW Série 5 Berline est dotée d’une capacité énergétique de 12,0 kWh, contre 9,2 kWh sur sa devancière. Résultat : une augmentation de plus de 30 % de l’autonomie électrique, qui atteint désormais 64 km*. En fonction de la situation de conduite, la BMW 530e Berline peut afficher une consommation de carburant pouvant atteindre 1,7 l/100 km* et des émissions de CO2 de 38 g/km*. La variante à transmission intégrale BMW 530e xDrive Berline, disponible dans le monde entier à compter de juillet 2019, est quant à elle dotée d’une autonomie de 57 km* et peut afficher une consommation de carburant en cycle mixte pouvant atteindre 1,9 l/100 km* et un niveau d’émissions de CO₂ de 44 g/km* en fonction de la situation de conduite.

La BMW 225xe Active Tourer est équipée de cellules de batterie à la pointe de la technologie qui contribuent à réduire encore davantage la consommation et à porter l’autonomie électrique à 47 km* (+ 25 %). La batterie lithium-ion conserve les mêmes dimensions, mais voit sa capacité énergétique passer de 7,7 kWh à 9,7 kWh. En fonction de la situation de conduite, la BMW 225xe Active Tourer peut afficher une consommation de carburant en cycle mixte de 1,9 l/100 km*, une consommation énergétique en cycle mixte de 14,7 kWh/100 km et des émissions de CO₂ de 43 g/100 km*. Spécifiquement réglée pour les modèles hybrides, la transmission intégrale confère à la BMW 225xe Active Tourer une conduite sportive et polyvalente. Elle bénéficie de série et en option de nombreux systèmes modernes d’assistance à la conduite, mais aussi des dernières innovations en matière de connectivité intelligente et de services numériques. La recharge de la batterie haute tension s’en retrouve facilitée et l’expérience de conduite électrique n’en est que plus intense.

Une batterie à la pointe de la technologie, un nouveau système d’exploitation et des services numériques novateurs pour une expérience de conduite électrique hors du commun.

Outre leur batterie ultramoderne, les variantes hybrides rechargeables de la nouvelle BMW Série 3 Berline, de la nouvelle BMW X5 et de la nouvelle BMW Série 7 se distinguent également par leur nouveau système d’affichage et de commande et leur offre de services numériques novateurs, assurant une expérience de conduite électrique toujours plus intense. La dotation de série des nouveaux modèles comprend l’offre BMW Live Cockpit Navigation Pro et ses écrans de conception nouvelle installés dans le combiné d’instruments et le Control Display, sur lesquels sont affichés l’état de chargement de la batterie, l’autonomie électrique et le mode actuel du système hybride avec une présentation clairement structurée. L’interface dédiée à l’expérience de conduite intègre désormais les boutons de sélection du mode de conduite, qui permettent d’activer les modes SPORT pour un réglage particulièrement dynamique, ADAPTIVE pour un réglage adapté à la situation et au style de conduite ainsi que les modes de gestion de l’hybridation HYBRID, ELECTRIC et BATTERY CONTROL. Activé par défaut, le mode HYBRID assure une hybridation équilibrée et une interaction optimale entre le moteur thermique et le bloc électrique. Le conducteur peut cependant choisir le mode ELECTRIC comme réglage par défaut via le menu iDrive. Si le conducteur appuie à deux reprises sur le bouton HYBRID, le mode de conduite bascule sur un fonctionnement optimisé en efficience (HYBRID ECO PRO). Par ailleurs, le mode croisière contribue également à la réduction de la consommation de carburant.

Le système intelligent de gestion de l’énergie bénéficie de technologies optimisées, mais aussi de l’association avec les fonctionnalités de navigation. Résultat : l’interaction entre le moteur thermique et le bloc électrique s’adapte encore plus précisément à l’itinéraire choisi et à la situation de conduite. Par ailleurs, dans les nouvelles BMW 330e Berline et BMW X5 xDrive45e, un calculateur s’appuie sur les données de navigation et sur les informations recueillies par les capteurs de la voiture pour optimiser l’efficience de la récupération d’énergie au freinage en mode HYBRID ECO PRO. Par exemple, la décélération induite par l’approche d’une intersection ou d’un véhicule circulant sur la même voie permet de mettre en œuvre une récupération d’énergie particulièrement intense.

Durant la recharge de la batterie, le tableau de bord 100 % numérique affiche des informations sous forme graphique indiquant le niveau de charge actuel de la batterie et donc l’autonomie électrique de la voiture. L’affichage, dont le design varie en fonction des modèles, indique également l’intensité du courant disponible sur la borne de recharge et alerte le conducteur quand la batterie est entièrement rechargée.

Grâce aux nouveaux services numériques, recharger la batterie de son véhicule en déplacement n’a jamais été aussi pratique et agréable. Par exemple, quand le conducteur recherche une borne de recharge avec le système de navigation, l’affichage lui indique les hôtels, restaurants, cafés et autres points d’intérêts culturels à proximité. Le conducteur peut également consulter les horaires d’affluence des différentes bornes de recharge. Enfin, grâce au service ChargeNow de BMW, les conducteurs peuvent réserver une borne de recharge compatible pour une durée limitée depuis leur voiture (à confirmer quand ce service sera disponible en Belgique et au Luxembourg).

Les BMW électrifiées émettent un son caractéristique via un système d’enceintes pour permettre aux piétons d’entendre le véhicule et d’assurer ainsi leur sécurité. La voiture se révèle notamment parfaitement audible à faible vitesse, tout en préservant le confort acoustique des occupants.

Munich. Consistent further development of BMW eDrive technology once again ensures enhanced driving pleasure in the purely electrically powered models of the BMW i brand. With cell capacity increased to 120 ampere hours (Ah) and a gross energy content of 42.2 kilowatt hours (kWh), a new generation of high-voltage batteries enables the BMW i3 (120 Ah) (combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km)* and the BMW i3s (120 Ah) (combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km)* to achieve a significantly further enhanced range as of November 2018. In everyday use, the two models are now able to cover a distance of 260 kilometres*** – an increase of almost 30 per cent.

In this way, BMW i is consolidating its position as an innovation leader and trendsetter in the field of pioneering electromobility with hallmark brand driving pleasure and excellent everyday practicality. Since the market launch of the BMW i3, the storage capacity of its high-voltage battery has been doubled, thereby increasing the car's range as well. At the same time as the introduction of the new battery, a new body finish, a new colour for the optional interior design Loft and adaptive LED headlights with matrix function for the high beam are also available for the BMW i3 and BMW i3s. In future, a sports package will be available for the BMW i3 that includes black wheel arch surrounds and a sports suspension with specific dampers, springs and stabilisers, lowered suspension, a widened track and 20-inch light alloy wheels. The optimised guidance system in the tile design of the iDrive operating system is now available in conjunction with the optional navigation system Business. In future, the options telephony with wireless charging and wireless LAN hotspot will also be available for the BMW i3 and BMW i3s.

Ongoing progress in battery development: increased energy content while dimensions remain the same.

Like the electric motors and power electronics, the high-voltage batteries are an integral part of the BMW eDrive technology used in BMW i automobiles and developed independently by the BMW Group. Its lithium-ion cells are produced exclusively based on specifications defined by the BMW Group. Based on sound research and development work conducted in close cooperation with the manufacturer of the battery cells, consistent optimisation of the storage units is achieved in terms of power output, range, safety and durability. Installed deep in the floor of the vehicle, the high-voltage battery is produced at the BMW plant in Dingolfing and consists of eight modules, each with twelve storage cells: the latest advancements have resulted in a capacity of 120 Ah along with a gross energy content of 42.2 kWh – while the size remains unchanged. This is yet another major step towards increased range. For comparison: at the market launch of the BMW i3 in 2013, the equivalent figures were 60 Ah and 22.6 kWh, while the second-generation battery introduced in 2016 reaches a level of 94 Ah and 33 kWh.

In addition to vehicle weight and the installation space taken up by the high-voltage battery, driving performance and energy consumption likewise remain virtually unaltered by the increased range achieved by the latest advancements. The BMW i3, powered by a 125 kW/170 hp electric motor, accelerates in 7.3 seconds from zero to 100 km/h, while the BMW i3s with 135 kW/184 hp completes the standard sprint in 6.9 seconds. This means that the two models both set the benchmark for sporty performance within their vehicle segment. Thanks to spontaneous power delivery as is typical of electric motors, the BMW i3 and BMW i3s even reach the level of sports cars that have a considerably more powerful combustion engine: here the figures are 5.1 and 4.3 seconds respectively for the sprint from 80 to 120 km/h.

The combined power consumption of the BMW i3 (120 Ah) is 13.1 kWh per 100 kilometres*, while the BMW i3s (120 Ah) has a power consumption of 14.6 kWh to 14.0 kWh per 100 kilometres*. The high efficiency of the electric motor and the enhanced battery capacity result in a range that is nearly 30 per cent higher than that of the predecessor models. The range of the BMW i3 (120 Ah) is 359 kilometres* (previously 290 to 300 km) according to NEDC, and 285 to 310 kilometres** (previously 235 – 255 km) according to WLTP. For the BMW i3s (120 Ah), a range of 330 to 345 kilometres* (previously 280 km) has been calculated according to NEDC, and a range of 270 to 285 kilometres** (previously 235 –245 km) according to WLTP. In everyday conditions, both models now achieve a range of 260 kilometres*** (previously 200 km).

The high-quality charging electronics of the BMW i3 and BMW i3s allows fast and flexible refreshment of the energy reserves. The standard charging cable is designed to be plugged into a conventional household socket. Here the battery can be charged to up to 80 per cent of its full power in approximately 15 hours with a charging capacity of 2.4 kW. Connection to the BMW i Wallbox enables rapid three-phase charging with a capacity of 11 kW. Here the time required to achieve an 80 per cent charge of the large-capacity high-voltage battery is 3.2 hours. The power electronics and high-voltage battery in the BMW i3 and BMW i3s can also be used in conjunction with quick-charging stations that run on DC power. Here the charging capacity is 50 kW and the high-voltage battery reaches 80 per cent of its total power in just 42 minutes.

With its battery capacity increased to 42.2 kWh, the latest version of the BMW i3 also follows the brand's holistic concept, applicable since market launch and geared towards responsible use of resources: this includes not just locally emissions-free power but also material selection and production techniques as well as mobility services. The BMW i3 (120 Ah) and the BMW i3s (120 Ah) have a much more favourable CO₂ footprint across the entire vehicle lifecycle – from raw material extraction and manufacture through to use and recycling – and this makes for significantly lower global warming potential than is the case with comparable, conventionally powered automobiles.

Sports package as a new option for the BMW i3.

In future, the new sports package will enable additional emphasis of brand-based driving pleasure derived from locally emissions-free mobility in the BMW i3. The key element of the new option is the sports suspension, which is a standard feature in the BMW i3s and includes specific dampers, springs and stabilisers, a suspension lowered by 10 millimetres, a widened track and 20-inch light alloy wheels in Jet Black or Bicolor finish with mixed tyres. This increase in driving dynamics is visually underscored by means of black wheel arch surrounds, which also form part of the BMW i sports package.

New body finishes, adaptive LED headlights, optimised controls and connectivity.

Since 2014 the BMW i3 has been the world's best-selling electrically powered vehicle in the premium compact segment. On the streets of urban conurbations it has come to stand as a symbol of pioneering mobility. Its characteristic shaping is closely linked to the LifeDrive vehicle architecture, which combines an aluminium chassis with a passenger cell made carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). With the introduction of the new battery generation, the design of the BMW i3 and the BMW i3s has been enriched with fresh accentuations. The choice of body finish for the two models has been extended to include the new variant Jucaro Beige metallic with accentuations in Frozen Grey. Meanwhile the exterior paint finishes Mineral Grey metallic, Imperial Blue metallic, Melbourne Red metallic, Capparis White and Fluid Black are still available. To match the new body finish, the optional interior design Loft now includes upholstery in the fabric/Sensatec combination "Electronic" – in Carum Grey with accentuations in brown and interior surfaces in Electronic Brown.

As an alternative to the standard LED headlights, adaptive LED headlights are now available with an automatic, selective dip function for the high beam. The innovative matrix technology for the high beam increases visibility range while at the same avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users. For this purpose it is divided into four horizontally arranged segments which can be activated and deactivated independently of each other at speeds of over 70 km/h. The high beam segments are controlled based on the traffic situation. As soon as the front camera registers an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle travelling ahead in the same direction, the space in which this vehicle is located is illuminated using the low beam only. This is effected by deactivation of the matrix high beam segments that are responsible for this area. The remaining areas of the road continue to be illuminated by the high beam. Adaptive LED headlight functions also include the cornering light and the high beam assistant.

The optimised menu display for the iDrive operating system with buttons in tile structure and in live mode is now also available in conjunction with the optional navigation system Business. This means that the desired content is now available even more quickly and conveniently. What is more, the program of optional equipment items now also includes the option of telephony with wireless charging, which allows compatible mobile phones to be recharged without use of a cable. The wireless LAN hotspot, likewise newly available for the BMW i3 and the BMW i3s, provides a fast online connection for up to ten end devices inside the vehicle.

San Francisco/ Munich. At theGovernor’s Global Climate Action Summit (12–14September 2018) in San Francisco, the BMW Groupand PG&E present the results of their ChargeForward project in favour of maximizing the use of electricity from renewable resources to charge electric cars.

The main findings are:

•  Electric vehicles can help stabilizing the public grid and maximizing the portion of renewables.
•  Drivers are willing to change their charging habits in order to align with renewables, given the right messaging and incentives.
•  Energy companies can help increase daytime charging with renewables by supporting companies in adding workplace charging.
•  Sharing data with other drivers is a motivator for many participants.
•  Programmes like ChargeForward improve customers’ understanding of how the grid works, which helps them become more educated energy consumers.
  
  

The bottom line is that owners of all electrified cars could be able to make their high-voltage batteries available as a flexibility buffer for power generated from renewable sources. At the same time, they could receive bonuses by charging their vehicle at the best possible time of day – and therefore maximising the proportion of solar energy they use – whether they are at home or out and about and using a public charging facility.

ChargeForward brings CO2-neutral electric mobilityand efficient, environment-friendly electricitysupplyanother step closer together. The innovation project launched byBMW iand power supplier Pacific Gas&Electric (PG&E) in theSan Francisco Bay AreainCalifornia has been running since 2015. Currently,350 owners of electrified vehicles from the BMW and MINI brands who also have aPG&E supply contract are taking part in the pioneering fleet trial.

TheChargeForward pilot projectin Californiais stepping up the ways in which electric mobilitycan link with eco-friendly changes inenergy use. The project is bridging the gap between electric vehicles and the public gridwith at echnology that hasthe potential to make electric driving emission-free not only locally but across the board. Key elements here include daily forecasts from energy providers on when and how much electricity from renewable sources will be available on thegrid. Customer requirements and preferences regarding vehicle usage periods and parking times are also taken into account. The ConnectedDrive telematics unit fitted in all BMW vehicles and the BMW Connected app play a crucial role here.

When the ChargeForward project was launched in 2015, around 100 BMWi3 drivers downloaded a ChargeForward app which allowed flexible vehicle charging from the electricity grid. This meant the charging process could be paused when the grid enjoyed particularly high demand and then restarted when the peak had tailed off again. Drivers would be informed of any charging pauses by a message to their smartphone. As a customer only rarely needs to use the whole time their vehicle is parked for charging, in many cases they would be able to benefit from periods when electric isavailable at lower cost. This would also present an easy way for the energy company to avoid grid overloads and ensure consistent and therefore efficient supply.

Since2017, the results of the second phase of the project have shown how a flexible charging strategycan contribute not only to stabilising the energy grid but also increasing the proportion of green energy sourced forel ectric mobility. Around EarthDay earlier this year, carefully managed charging in sunny California enabled greater use of electricity generated from renewable sources. Around 350 BMW i car drivers participating in the ChargeForward project were prompted to charge their vehicles’ high-voltage batteries during the day. In this way, they prioritised those periods when solar energy was available in particularly large quantities. This meant approximately 56 per cent of the power they fed into their vehicles during the test period could ultimately be sourced renewably – and more than half of the project participants’mileage in their BMW i3carsduring the test was therefore completely CO2-neutral. By comparison, the average percentage of renewable energy for the US stood at just 22 per cent.

The Governor’s Global ClimateAction Summit in San Francisco brings together international representatives from politics and government, environmental associations, business and industry to discuss the impact of climate change and possible measures to counteract it. The event shines the spotlight on ways to reduce CO2emissions generated by humans. TheBMW Group is contributing to the summit in various ways –e.g. witha run-downof the conclusions from the phases of the ChargeForward project completed so far and a presentation of further initiatives aimed at integrating electric mobility into a sustainable and largely CO2-neutral energy supply system.

By pressing ahead with the ChargeForward project, BMW iand PG&E are showing their commitment to further incentivising intelligent charging and to incorporating electric vehicles into the public energy grid even more efficiently.In the near future, high-voltage batteries from electrified BMW and MINI cars should be able to not only take on as much renewably sourced electricity as possible, but also feed it back into the grid, when there is a shortage of electricity from renewable resources. By acting as temporary energy storage facilities, they can help to stabilise energy supply. For example, they can be used to cover load peaks inenergy generation from wind and solar power (e.g. on particularly windy or sunny days) and channel the energy stored back into the grid in the evening, whent he sun has set and demand is elevated.

Le 29 mars 2018, la société gantoise Planet Group a choisi de se tourner résolument vers la mobilité du futur. L’entreprise constitue ainsi le plus grand parc de voitures de sociétés électriques de Belgique. Ceci correspond à leur approche pragmatique de la durabilité. Les voitures seront notamment utilisées par les infirmières de X-Care, par les assistants « helpdesk » et par les programmateurs de IT Planet. La concession BMW Peter Daeninck, KBC Autolease et BMW i Belux ont travaillé de concert avec Planet Group pour mener à bien cet ambitieux projet.

Planet Group et ses différentes sociétés, HR-Planet, IT-Planet et X-Care font résolument le choix d’investissements durables. Son CEO, Sam Baro, explique leur engagement: “Nous pensons qu’il est important de jouer un rôle de pionnier tant pour nos activités en Ressources Humaines qu’IT ou de soins de santé mais aussi pour notre mobilité durable. Je souhaite montrer à d’autres entreprises qu’il est tout à fait possible de rouler en voiture électrique. La BMW i3 correspond parfaitement à notre vision.”

La BMW i3 offre aujourd’hui une autonomie de300 km selon le cycle NEDC et d’au moins 200 km en conditions réelles de roulage. Grâce à sa carrosserie légère innovante faite de carbone (CFRP), cette voiture offre beaucoup d’espace intérieur. Les matériaux qui la composent répondent aussi à l’objectif de durabilité de ce modèle premium 100% électrique. Il en va ainsi de son tableau de bord ou des panneaux de portes qui sont composé de kénaf (hibiscus). Cette plante est cultivée au Bangladesh de manière durable.

Sam Baro d’ajouter: “Nous attendons de nos collaborateurs qu’ils se déplacent de manière plus consciente avec leur voiture. Ils feront le plein d’une autre manière. Nous nous engageons aussi en tant qu’entreprise vis-à-vis de nos collaborateurs: nous installons ainsi de nombreux points de rechargement électrique sur notre site et nous avons engagé une discussion avec nos clients les plus importants pour que nos collaborateurs puissent également charger leur voiture – à nos frais – chez eux via des bornes de rechargement. Nous regardons aussi le meilleur moyen d’installer des possibilités de rechargement rapide au domicile de nos collaborateurs.”

Les 50 voitures seront progressivement livrées. Une première vague de 25 BMW i3 électriques a été livrée dans un premier temps, le solde sera mis en service en fonction de la fin des contrats de leasing existants. D’ici fin 2018, tout sera en ordre. A ce moment-là, un tiers de la flotte de Planet Group sera alors 100% électrique.

Planet Group veut continuer à investir dans la conduite verte. “Etant donné que la durée de vie des batteries ne cesse d’augmenter grâce aux développements technologiques, nous avons pour objectif à terme de 2 ou 3 ans d’avoir un parc automobile à 80% électrique et à moyen terme de passer à un parc entièrement électrique.” a déclaré le CEO van Planet Group, Sam Baro.

Avec un temps de réponse 50 fois plus rapide pour une meilleure traction et une meilleure stabilité de conduite sur route lors de conditions défavorables et lors de la récupération de l’énergie de freinage.

Munich. The BMW i3 sets standards worldwide for driving pleasure in a purely electrically-driven vehicle. Key factors here are not only the increased output of the motor in the new BMW i3s, but also the innovative traction control system adapted specifically to the instantaneous power deliver of the BMW eDrive system. Presented for the first time in the new BMW i3s (270 Nm at 0 rpm, 135 kW / 184 HP, power consumption combined in European NEFZ test-cycle*: 14.3 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km), the system improves traction and driving stability in adverse weather and road conditions when pulling away, in active Brake Energy Regeneration phases and when accelerating out of tight corners. At the heart of this innovation is the control system’s 50-times-faster routine, made possible because – unlike conventional driving stability systems – the control process is now calculated directly in the powertrain instead of in a remote unit requiring long signal paths. This development provides further evidence of BMW i as a pioneer of innovative technology within the BMW Group.

“With their high levels of torque and instantaneous responses to every movement of the accelerator, electric motors already make significantly higher demands on driving stability systems than conventional power units,” explains Peter Langen, Head of Chassis Development at BMW.

That’s why the BMW engineers developed a new type of system geared squarely to the demands of electric mobility.
The positive impact of these shorter control cycles is not reserved for purely electrically driven cars; indeed, this innovative traction control system also optimises traction, driving stability and driving dynamics in vehicles with combustion engines. It will therefore be fitted in BMW and MINI models with front-, rear- and all-wheel drive to deliver noticeably greater assurance and driving pleasure when road conditions make pulling away difficult.

Lancée en 2013, la BMW i3 connaît un succès sans cesse grandissant. Premier modèle premium entièrement conçu en fonction de son mode d’entraînement électrique, la BMW i3 ne cesse de conquérir de nouveaux clients. Si différentes unités de police à travers le monde se sont déjà dotées de BMW i3 (Los Angeles, Londres, Prague, Milan, …), c’est la première fois que des communes prennent livraison de tels véhicules 100% électriques pour leur police locale. Ces véhicules sont destinés à être utiliser pour les interventions en ville. La BMW i3 est un véhicule citadin, puissant, léger et n’émettant aucun gramme de CO2 ». De son côté le bourgmestre de Knesselare a ajouté : « Nous avons essayé ces véhicules nous-même en compagnie des policiers qui les utiliseront et sommes convaincus que de tels véhicules électriques répondent en tout point à nos attentes ».

La BMW i3, 100% électrique, peut parcourir sans problème 200 km avec une charge électrique ce qui est plus que suffisant pour des missions urbaines. Son rayon de braquage particulièrement court lui permet de se faufiler facilement en ville et sa légèreté alliée à une grande agilité la rendent idéale pour des interventions en ville.

« Nous constatons qu’outre les particuliers, des flottes d’entreprises de plus en plus nombreuses utilisent des BMW i3 pour leurs déplacements. Quand on sait qu’une voiture parcourt un maximum de 40 km par jour en moyenne en Europe, une autonomie de 200 km est amplement suffisante. Non seulement, le BMW i3 n’émet pas de CO2 mais l’usine qui la produit à Leipzig en Allemagne est alimentée par de l’électricité en provenance exclusive d’éoliennes afin que l’ensemble de la chaîne soit la plus neutre possible vis-à-vis de l’environnement » a expliqué Thomas Heyens, responsable de BMW i au sein de BMW Group Belux.

Leipzig. The BMW Group continues to build on its leading international role in the field of electro-mobility, as the 100,000th BMW i3 rolled off the production line at the company’s Leipzig plant today. The BMW i3 has played a major part in making the BMW Group one of the most successful suppliers of electrified vehicles worldwide. Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, and Plant Director Hans-Peter Kemser celebrated this milestone with Saxony’s Minister-President Stanislaw Tillich, other guests and plant employees. At the event, Krüger and Kemser also presented the next member of the BMW i family, the BMW i8 Roadster, as a camouflaged prototype; series production of the BMW i8 Roadster will begin in 2018. A further highlight was today’s official commissioning of the BMW Battery Storage Farm Leipzig, which will connect up to 700 BMW i3 high-capacity batteries. The large-scale battery storage system at the Leipzig plant will give batteries previously installed in BMW i3 cars a second life and put them to profitable use in a sustainable, energy-based business model.

“We are proud of the 100,000th BMW i3 built by our plant in Leipzig. The BMW i3 is the original, a true technological pioneer. With BMW i as our spearhead, we intend to remain the leading premium supplier of electro-mobility going forward. We are now looking ahead to the next member of the BMW i family, the i8 Roadster, which will expand our leading position in the field of electro-mobility. In 2025, we will offer our customers a total of 25 models with electrified drive trains,” said Krüger. “In the interests of sustainability, today we are also presenting a concept for the second use of BMW i3 high-voltage batteries. With our Strategy NUMBER ONE > NEXT, we are looking far beyond the car itself and driving change in our industry with totally new approaches and business models.”

Saxony’s Minister-President Stanislaw Tillich continued to be impressed with the development of BMW’s Leipzig plant: “Two days after I was elected minister-president for the first time, I came to Leipzig to attend the topping out ceremony for the new BMW press shop. I have followed developments very closely ever since and had conversations with the Board of Management of BMW on a regular basis. The plant began building electric cars in 2013 and, by the end of my term of office, the Leipzig plant will have produced over 100,000 electric cars – now, with its battery farm, BMW is beginning a new chapter in its innovative history. I would like to thank the BMW Group for choosing to make Leipzig the leading production location for premium electric vehicles in Germany. I hope that the BMW Group, with its concentrated innovative power and Leipzig production expertise, will continue to spearhead the automotive revolution of the 21st century. I am confident that BMW will further contribute to the positive economic development of the Leipzig region and Saxony as a car-producing state, through future growth in the areas of electro-mobility and connected driving.”

100,000th BMW i3 from Leipzig

Series production of the BMW i3 began in September 2013. The BMW Group has invested a total of 400 million euros in production of BMW i models at the Leipzig location and created more than 800 jobs. Current daily production of the BMW i3 stands at more than 120 units, with an annual production volume in 2016 of 26,631 vehicles. “We are proud of our team performance, which enables us to celebrate production of the 100,000th BMW i3 today – all with the same premium quality and efficiency as our more conventional models. I would like to thank all our associates for this tremendous achievement,” said Plant Director, Hans-Peter Kemser. Production in Leipzig includes making carbon-fibre parts and painted plastic parts for outer skin panels, the BMW i body shop and BMW i assembly hall.

Series production of the BMW i8 got underway in May 2014 and a total of 2,783 BMW i8s were shipped from the plant in 2016. Production of the most successful hybrid sports car worldwide currently stands at eight to ten vehicles per day.

The next member of the BMW i family, the BMW i8 Roadster, an open-topped version of the sports car, will be released onto the market in 2018.

“Battery2ndLife”: Innovative second use of BMW i3 high-voltage batteries for new business model: BMW Group opens large-scale battery storage in Leipzig

The official commissioning of the battery storage farm on the grounds of BMW Plant Leipzig demonstrates innovative, sustainable and profitable second use of BMW i3 batteries after a vehicle reaches the end of its lifecycle. The battery storage unit in Leipzig can house up to 700 used BMW i3 high-capacity batteries. There are currently 500 new and used batteries integrated, because today – four years after the BMW i3 market launch – most battery packs are still in cars on the road. “The capacity of 700 high-voltage batteries is the equivalent of an electric range of 100,000 km in a BMW i3. The scalable approach means that the storage unit could be further expanded to accommodate more batteries. It is also already compatible with upcoming battery generations and therefore future-proof,” underlined Joachim Kolling, Head of Energy Services at the BMW Group. “We are demonstrating once again that the concept of sustainability at BMW i goes far beyond the car.” With wind turbines located on the grounds of the plant, the BMW Battery Storage Farm Leipzig links decentralised captive production from renewable energies with local energy storage and an industrial consumer in a completely unique way. The stationary battery storage farm is also integrated with the public power grid, which enables its electricity to be marketed as primary balancing power. In this way, the BMW Group is making a contri-bution to the stability of the public power grid and performing a valuable function for the wider community. When there is a surplus of power from renewable energies, large-scale battery storage can relieve the grid by absorbing electricity. When there is not enough power in the electricity grid, the facility can release electricity to help stabilise the grid.

The battery storage farm at BMW Group Plant Leipzig will open up new potential for cost and energy efficiency, as well as CO2 reduction in the energy sector. It is yet another example of practical steps the BMW Group is taking in its aspiration to become the most sustainable automotive company in the world.

The BMW Battery Storage Farm project in Leipzig is part of the WindNODE initiative, dedicated to promoting intelligent usage and storage systems for renewable energies. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy provides funding for the venture through its "Smart Energy Showcases – Digital Agenda for the Energy Transition" (SINTEG) programme.

BMW Group Plant Leipzig

BMW Group Plant Leipzig is one of the most modern and sustainable car plants in the world. Series production began in March 2005. Today, more than 860 vehicles roll off the assembly line every day from classic production: Currently, these are the BMW 1 Series five-door version, the BMW 2 Series Coupé and Convertible, the BMW 2 Series M Coupé and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. In addition, the plant also builds more than 120 BMW i3s and BMW i8s per day – two ground-breaking vehicles with alternative drive trains and innovative lightweight bodies.

A total of 70 partners from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Berlin, Saxony and Thuringia work together on the WindNODE project to connect energy producers, electricity grid operators, suppliers and consumers through an ICT platform. The driving experience in the BMW i models has played no small part in the growing appeal and popularity of electric mobility. Following systematic refinement, the BMW eDrive technology aboard the new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s enables drivers to enjoy locally emission-free mobility with wonderfully instantaneous power delivery, efficient use of energy and an optimised range for a level of everyday practicality that even extends beyond the demands of purely urban travel. Both models draw their energy from the lithium-ion high-voltage battery developed by the BMW Group with a capacity of 94 ampere hours (Ah) or 33 kilowatt hours (kWh). A range extender engine can be ordered as an option for both the new BMW i3 and the new BMW i3s.

The new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s will celebrate their world premieres at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt/Main in September 2017. The global market launch will begin in November 2017.

Design: sporty look.

The new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s have a remarkably dynamic character by premium compact electric car standards, and a number of design tweaks have been included to express this to particularly striking effect in their visual appearance too. The unmistakable, avant-garde exterior styling has already picked up the iF gold award for product design and the World Car Design of the Year award along with other accolades, and it has now been enhanced by a number of deft design touches that clearly convey the sporty and stirring driving experience on offer.

The trademark BMW i Black Belt running from the bonnet over the roof to the car’s rear end is now complemented by A-pillars and roof lines that also sport a black finish. The range of paint finishes for the remaining body elements has been extended to include Melbourne Red metallic and Imperial Blue metallic. Besides these two new additions, customers can also choose from the non-metallic shades Capparis White and Fluid Black as well as Protonic Blue metallic and Mineral Grey metallic.

The restyling of the front and rear aprons places particular emphasis on the car’s width, which has the effect of signalling just how sporty both models are to drive and how sure their handling is. A chrome-design trim strip running across the full width of the rear and the positioning of the model and eDrive badges on the outer edges of the boot lid serves to reinforce this impression.

The new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s come equipped with all-LED headlights as standard, which employ LED bulb units for dipped beam and high beam as well as the daytime running lights. The new turn signal indicators also feature LED technology and are integrated into the front apron in the form of horizontal strips. This means that LEDs are now used for all lighting functions at the front of the vehicle too, as was already the case with the glass-covered rear light assemblies.

The new BMW i3: new styling accents for a sense of sporty elegance.

The thoughtful evolution of the exterior design not only helps to bring the sporting credentials of the new BMW i3 more to the fore, but highlights its sophisticated elegance too. The front bumper is completely painted in the body colour and has a black U-shaped surround that reinforces the car’s presence when viewed from the front. Moving round to the rear end, the powerfully moulded contours and the contrast in colour between the black surround and the body-coloured inlay again create an energetic and expressive appearance.

The new silver-coloured roof line accent for the new BMW i3 adds a further touch of elegance and dynamism. It widens towards the rear, thereby accentuating the stream flow, as the distinctive outline of the side windows is known.

The new BMW i3s: a thoroughly dynamic performer.

The new BMW i3s incorporates a number of design elements all of its own that underscore its particularly dynamic character. Both the front and rear aprons are notable for their model-specific, powerfully shaped contours. At the front, the bumper inlay as well as the U-shaped surround encircling it have a black finish. The front apron’s side sections are bordered on their lower edge by accent strips in BMW i Blue or Frozen Grey that further emphasise the width of the car. The accent in the closed BMW kidney grille is also painted in high-gloss black on the BMW i3s to give the grille a larger and more prominent appearance. The rear apron of the new BMW i3s is likewise composed of individually styled contours, while the black surround frames an extra-wide, body-coloured inlay. On the new BMW i3s, the roof line accent also sports the same high-gloss black finish as the A-pillars.

The new BMW i3s comes equipped as standard with sports suspension that includes a 10-millimetre drop in ride height. The additional 40 millimetres of track width compared to the BMW i3 is given added impact by the black wheel arch borders. The new BMW i3s is available with exclusive 20-inch light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design that are 20 millimetres wider than the previously available versions. They can be ordered in the Bicolour and Jet Black colour variants.

Interior: great sense of roominess, sustainable materials.

Like the exterior design, the interior styling of the new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s is rooted in the novel LifeDrive vehicle architecture. The carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell has a wonderfully spacious feel about it and is dominated by a sense of lightness. The design principle of the two four-seater models means there is no need for either fixed B-pillars or a transmission tunnel. Doors that open in opposite directions allow the occupants to get in and out with the greatest of ease.

The Loft, Lodge and Suite equipment lines are available for the new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s as alternatives to the standard Atelier version. The Lodge interior design option includes a new covering for the seat surfaces in Solaric Brown that combines natural leather tanned using an olive leaf extract with a wool-based textile material. The fact that the BMW i3 and BMW i3s also count sustainability among their premium characteristics shines through in the rest of the materials selected for them too, including recycled plastics, renewable raw materials, natural fibres and open-pored, unbleached eucalyptus wood. Over 80 percent of the surfaces visible to the passengers are made from recycled materials or renewable resources. The new blue seat belt option provides a splash of colour in the interior in typical brand style. The BMW i3s supplements all this with special model lettering on the front floor mats as standard.

Emission-free fun at the wheel: a more intense experience than ever, now with two power options.

The synchronous electric motor powering the new BMW i3 generates a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp. Its peak torque is 250 Nm (184 lb-ft), all of which is available instantly from a standstill, as is usual with electric motors. This means that stepping on the accelerator pedal immediately unleashes a thrilling burst of speed. The motor smoothly delivers the kind of performance that drivers expect from a BMW via a single-speed automatic transmission, with continuous power delivery that builds up the car’s tempo in a characteristically dynamic fashion. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is achieved by the new BMW i3 in 7.3 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 150 km/h (93 mph).

Located low in the vehicle floor, the lithium-ion high-voltage battery provides a range of 290 to 300 kilometres (180-186 miles)* based on the NEDC cycle, 235 to 255 kilometres (146 to 158 miles)** as per WLTP and up to 200 kilometres (124 miles)*** in everyday use. The combined electric power consumption of the new BMW i3 on the NEDC cycle varies between 13.6 and 13.1 kWh for every 100 kilometres*.

Bringing outstanding driving dynamics to the electric vehicle segment, with instantaneous torque, superb traction and precisely controllable drifts.

The agile handling characteristics of the BMW i3 are improved still further by the optimised Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system. This comprehensively revised, faster responding traction control system guarantees confident handling under all driving conditions. The BMW i3 now features a globally unique form of wheel speed limiting that ensures increased directional stability, both under dynamic acceleration and on the overrun with strong regenerative braking. Traction during pull-away on snow and wet roads has also been noticeably improved. DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) mode now boosts agility at higher speeds and during sporty cornering, even allowing mild and safely controllable drifts when grip levels are reduced.

The new BMW i3s provides an even sportier interpretation of silent mobility with zero local emissions and features a high-performance 135 kW/184 hp electric motor that generates peak torque of 270 Nm (199 lb-ft). Its updated drive system includes modified motor control and specific taper roller bearings, which have been utilised to further optimise power delivery and the performance curve at higher rpm. At the limits of the motor speed range, the power and torque of the further developed drive system represent an improvement of up to 40% for the BMW i3.

What’s more, the new BMW i3s boasts sports suspension with specially developed springs, dampers and anti-roll bars. Drivers can also select SPORT mode using the Driving Experience Control switch. This initiates more direct accelerator response and tighter steering characteristics to further accentuate the car’s sporting edge.

Just 6.9 seconds is enough to see the new BMW i3s burst past 100 km/h (62 mph) on its way to a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph). It returns a combined electric power consumption of 14.3 kWh per 100 kilometres* on the NEDC cycle. Its electric range runs to 280 kilometres (174 miles)* based on the NEDC cycle, 235 to 245 kilometres (146 to 152 miles)** as per WLTP and up to 200 kilometres (124 miles)*** in everyday use.

A 28 kW/38 hp two-cylinder range extender petrol engine is available as an option for both the new BMW i3 and the new BMW i3s. The engine drives a generator that produces power as required while driving to maintain a constant level of charge in the high-voltage battery. This extends the car’s overall range in everyday use by 150 kilometres (93 miles), increasing it from around 180 kilometres (112 miles) to a maximum of 330 kilometres (205 miles)***. The all-electric range of the new BMW i3 with range extender is 225 to 235 kilometres (140 – 146 miles)* as per NEDC and 190 to 200 kilometres (118 – 124 miles)** as per WLTP. The corresponding figures for the new BMW i3s with range extender come in at 220 kilometres (137 miles)* on the NEDC and 185 to 195 kilometres (115 to 121 miles)** on the WLTP cycle.

On the NEDC cycle, the new BMW i3 with range extender returns combined consumption figures per 100 kilometres of 11.9 to 11.5 kWh of electric power and 0.6 litres of fuel (fuel consumption of 470.8 mpg imp; CO2 emissions: 14 –13 g/km)*. On the same combined NEDC cycle, the new BMW i3s with range extender consumes 12.5 kWh of electric power per 100 kilometres and 0.7 litres of fuel (fuel consumption of 403.5 mpg imp; CO2 emissions: 14 g/km)*.

Extensive range of driver assistance systems: Parking Assistant and Traffic Jam Assistant take over control of steering.

The driver assistance systems available for the new BMW i3 and BMW i3s ease the driver’s workload and provide support in various traffic situations, as well as helping with longitudinal and lateral vehicle control. The optional Parking Assistance package includes Park Distance Control, a reversing camera and the Parking Assistant. Once a suitable parking space parallel to the road has been selected, the Parking Assistant takes control of acceleration, braking, gear selection and steering.

Driving Assistant Plus, also available as an option, incorporates Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function, Speed Limit Info, Proactive Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, and the Traffic Jam assistant, which not only maintains a safe distance to the car in front in stop-start traffic at up to 60 km/h (37 mph), but also keeps the car in lane. The system takes its cues from lane markings, the width of the road and vehicles travelling ahead.

Further developed iDrive system, BMW i ConnectedDrive with navigation features and On-Street Parking Information specially developed for electric mobility.

Both the new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s come with an updated version of the iDrive operating system, which provides an intuitive interface for controlling numerous vehicle, infotainment, communications and navigation functions. In vehicles equipped with the Navigation system Professional, the Control Display has a diagonal of 10.25 inches and an increased resolution of 1,440 × 540 pixels. The main menu is also presented in the form of horizontally arranged tiles with a live mode. The voice recognition system has also been further optimised. With the aid of Natural Language Understanding, spoken instructions can now be executed more quickly and precisely, e.g. when searching for music and phone numbers or dictating e-mails and SMS messages. New to the options list is Apple CarPlay preparation. This allows additional smartphone apps to be integrated seamlessly with the vehicle’s operating system.

The further expanded BMW i ConnectedDrive offering – unmatched by any rival – ensures intelligent connectivity through services specially tailored to electric mobility. The digital On-Street Parking Information search service, now available for the first time in the BMW i3 (but unfortunately not available in Belgium nor Luxembourg), can also be used alongside the Real Time Traffic Information system if the Navigation system Professional is specified. Public charging stations and information about their availability can also be displayed on the navigation system’s map. When route guidance is activated, data about the route is also used to calculate the range shown in the instrument cluster as accurately as possible. The range map provides a visual representation of the current operating radius. It is also possible to display the different ranges achievable in each of the Driving Experience Control modes. BMW i-specific navigation features also include intermodal route guidance. This helps users to quickly and efficiently reach their destination by factoring in local public transport timetables and connections. Regular, automatic updates of the navigation data are now also provided “over the air” in the BMW i3, using a mobile network connection (Not available in Belgium nor Luxembourg).

A package of new services were introduced in July 2017 under the BMW Connected+ banner which enable a highly personalised and more straightforward display of information inside the car. All of the digital services related to BMW Connected and BMW Connected+ will be available in the BMW i3 and BMW i3s. These span intelligent route planning, including stop-offs at charging stations or petrol stations (Send my Routes to Car), sharing of the car’s current location via SMS and live link (Share Live Trip Status), personalised display of relevant in-car information (BMW Onboard), seamless transfer of route instructions to the customer’s smartphone or smartwatch once the car is parked (Navigate Door-to-Door) and direct syncing of contacts and addresses to the navigation system (My Destinations).

BMW Digital Charging Service enables intelligent charging.

The BMW Digital Charging Service brings customers the future of charging, today. BMW ConnectedDrive and the BMW ConnectedDrive Portal turn charging into a digital experience. As a result, the BMW i3 and BMW i3s are integrated perfectly into the customer’s smart ecosystem. This allows BMW customers to optimise charging costs, make best use of self-generated solar energy for charging and even earn money through integration into the smart grid. The service’s ease of use – from a smartphone via BMW Connected or from PCs and tablets via the BMW ConnectedDrive Portal – also facilitates fully transparent, sustainable use of renewable energy. With the introduction of its unique BMW Digital Charging Service, BMW becomes the world’s first carmaker to integrate electric mobility with its customers’ digital worlds.

360° ELECTRIC: new charging cable, BMW i Wallbox Connect.

360° ELECTRIC is a range of products and services that help make electric mobility a convenient, everyday experience. The functionality of the standard charging cable supplied with the new BMW i3s has been optimised and includes a temperature sensor. Charging at home is extremely user-friendly thanks to the BMW i Wallbox which, in its most recent incarnation, can supply 11 kW of power to charge the high-voltage battery. This allows enough energy for an electric range of around 180 kilometres (112 miles) to be transferred in under three hours – five times quicker than with the standard charging cable. The new BMW i Wallbox Connect also extends the functionality of the globally unique Digital Charging Service to provide intelligent charging for optimal cost efficiency, and allows customers to make best use of self-generated solar energy. In addition, it is also possible to control the charging process using a smartphone app and manage usage by means of an access card. Drivers with a registered ChargeNow card have unrestricted access to the world’s largest network of public charging stations.

Au cours des années ’80, un groupe d’artistes et d’architectes Italiens, regroupés sous le nom de Memphis Design Group, créèrent un style visuel remarquable composé de couleurs vives, d’un graphisme et de formes géométriques originales. Avec ce style, le groupe faisait front à la logique fonctionnaliste et commerciale de l’époque mais aussi au minimalisme des années ’70. Le constructeur premium BMW a habillé une BMW i3 et une BMW i8 d’un manteau au design Memphis et présente ces deux modèles pour la première fois en Belgique.

Le plus grand show-room au monde consacré à la BMW i8.

Les œuvres sont à découvrir jusqu’au 17 août au BMW Brand Store du boulevard de Waterloo. Pour ceux qui se rendront au BMW Brand Store avant le 10 août, cinq autres BMW i8 dans des couleurs mythiques seront également à cécouvrir : Avusblau, British Racing Green, Carbonschwarz, Frozen Silver et Pure Black. Les deux pilotes BMW en DTM, Marco Wittmann (GER) et Bruno Spengler (CAN) ont accompli une “avant-course” très spéciale jeudi dernier. Les champions DTM 2012 (Spengler) et 2014 et 2016 (Wittmann) ont relevé un défi à bord de deux BMW i3s* sur leur route partant de Garching près de Munich en direction du circuit du Norisring (GER) .

Both racing drivers were aiming to use as little energy as possible on the way to the fourth DTM race weekend of the season, driving the two cars.

The route first took Wittmann and Spengler along minor roads from Garching to Ingolstadt (GER). They then continued the journey to Nuremberg (GER) on the motorway. Wittmann arrived at the Dutzendteich with a range of 133 kilometres remaining, while Spengler’s on-board computer still showed 121 kilometres. Victory in the efficiency challenge therefore went to the BMW Team RMG driver.

“Challenging Bruno with the BMW i3 was great fun,” said Wittmann, who will enjoy home advantage at the Norisring. “We stayed in the slipstream of the lorries on the motorway to save as much energy as possible. We made it easily – and now we are looking forward to racing at the weekend.”

“It was rather unusual for us as racing drivers to be driving as efficiently as possible, instead of as fast as possible,” said Spengler. “But the challenge was great fun. The BMW i3 is an excellent car and the remaining range shows that longer journeys are no problem at all.” The BMW i3 has a battery capacity of 94 ampere hours, greatly increasing the range when compared to the previous model.

This coming weekend, Wittmann and Spengler will leave the BMW i3 and return to the cockpits of their BMW M4 DTMs at the Norisring. The seventh and eighth DTM races of the season then will be all about pure performance.

Well-founded calculations carried out in tandem with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE will show visitors to the Hannover Messe how a progressive transition to renewable energy sources can allow the German government to meet its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets by 2050. At a series of interconnected stands, partners involved in the initiative from the electricity generating and energy supply sectors and from industry will be demonstrating technologies which can enable this transformation, as well as new areas of business which might emerge.

The BMW Group can be found at Stand B59 in Hall 27 and will be showcasing the zero-emission vehicles BMW i3 and a hydrogen fuel-cell demonstration vehicle based on the BMW 5 Series GT. At the same stand, Shell will be showing a hydrogen fuelling pump which the energy company has developed in partnership with Designworks, a BMW subsidiary. This innovative fuel pump dispenser illustrates how quickly and easily drivers can fill up their cars with hydrogen, while simultaneously providing a glimpse of future mobility.

‘Vision Zero’ in electric mobility.

In its actions and business practices, the BMW Group has always followed an integrated approach centred around the application of sustainability throughout the value chain. A pioneering combination: BMW eDrive and hydrogen fuel-cell technology.

The hydrogen fuel-cell demonstration vehicle based on the BMW 5 Series GT on show at the Hannover Messe combines locally emission-free mobility with sporty handling, a high level of energy efficiency, everyday usability thanks to fast refuelling times and an appetite for covering long distances. The fuel cell converts the hydrogen gas carried in its storage tank into electricity and water vapour, generating 180 kW/245 hp to drive the electric motor. With a net capacity of around one kilowatt hour, the vehicle’s high-voltage battery acts as a temporary storage mechanism and can therefore be considerably smaller than in battery-electric concepts. The strategic alliance agreed between the BMW Group and the Toyota Motor Company in 2013 provides additional impetus and increases the companies’ capacity to turn hydrogen fuel-cell technology into reality.

It is the aim of the BMW Group to establish hydrogen fuel-cell electric drive systems as a long-term second source of locally emission-free mobility alongside battery-electric drive systems. The result is a versatile potential portfolio of drive systems which can be adapted flexibly to different vehicle concepts, customer requirements and legislative circumstances.

BMW i will debut as the exclusive transportation partner at the Coachella Valley Music & Art Festival in 2017, providing VIP shuttle service and hospitality during the weekends of April 14-16 and 21-23. BMW’s sustainable, future-oriented brand will provide BMW i3 electric vehicles and BMW X5 40e iPerformance plug-in hybrid electric vehicles for transportation on and around the festival site.

A stand-out feature of the BMW i3 fleet at Coachella is a unique wrap that was created especially for the occasion, its design reflecting the creative and unconventional character of the event. BMW i8 plug-in hybrid electric sports cars with Coachella design will also take to the roads between Los Angeles and Palm Springs with a selected group of festival-bound celebrities and influencers on board.

"Road to Coachella".

A social media campaign entitled “Road to Coachella” kicked-off the partnership on March 14. The campaign offers festival goers the chance to be entered into a drawing to win a festival pass by documenting their preparation for the festival and their own journey to Coachella Valley via social media using the hashtag #RoadToCoachella. 

Renowned composer and music producer Hans Zimmer (“Inception”, “Pearl Harbor”, “The Dark Knight” and “The Lion King”) has provided the soundtrack for a video promoting “Road to Coachella.

The three-minute piece, which debuted on April 9 on BMW’s YouTube Channel, is set to a Zimmer’s music and features the BMW i8 hybrid electric sports car, while providing a look at his preparations as he and his orchestra ready for their first-ever Coachella performance. Also featured in the video are fellow Coachella performers including Marshmello, Galantis, Ryan Rabin of Grouplove, Warpaint and Broods.

Furthermore, BMW i will invite visitors during the festival to visit the innovative BMW i Brand Lounge in the VIP Area, where they can experience up close the allure of BMW i and the unique Coachella design, co-developed with Garage Italia Customs.

Depuis 1975, BMW a développé une série de voitures réalisées par de grands artistes sous le nom de BMW Art Cars. Récemment, la 19^e BMW Art Car conçue par l’artiste Américain John Baldessari a été dévoilée. Cette BMW M6 GTLM participera début 2017 aux célèbres 24 heures de Daytona.

Leader dans le domaine de l’éclairage public et professionnel, Schréder s’équipe de BMW i3 pour mettre en avant sa nouvelle colonne Shuffle disposant, entre autres, d’une borne de recharge.

Trois ans après le lancement de BMW i, pas moins de 60.000 BMW i3 ont déjà été vendues à travers le monde ce qui en fait la voiture électrique la plus vendue dans son segment. Différentes sociétés belges ont déjà fait confiance à BMW i3 pour la mobilité électrique de leurs collaborateurs. Schréder, est une société belge, leader dans le domaine de l’éclairage public et professionnel depuis plus d’un siècle. Avec sa toute nouvelle colonne multifonctionnelle Shuffle, Schréder propose une approche intelligente en concentrant des services tels que l’éclairage, la sécurité, l’infodivertissement, la connectivité sans fil et l’e-mobilité dans un même point.

Le centre de R&D de Schréder à Liège a été équipé d’une telle installation afin de démontrer à ses plus de 500 visiteurs annuels en provenance du monde entier, les derniers développements et innovations en ligne avec les défis technologiques de demain. Dans ce cadre et pour mettre en avant la fonction de recharge électrique, l’entreprise a opté pour des BMW i3, un modèle entièrement développé en fonction de la mobilité électrique. La couleur Protonic Blue des BMW i3 acquises par le spécialiste de l’éclairage public rappelle la couleur de l’anneau lumineux intégré à la colonne Shuffle lors de la charge du véhicule.

Les BMW i3 de Schréder seront par ailleurs utilisées comme véhicules de service lors des déplacements avec les visiteurs. Elles peuvent également être empruntées après journée et lors des week-ends par les employés afin de leur permettre de faire l’expérience de la mobilité électrique.

Le bureau d’études de marché belge InSites fait partie des trois sociétés de recherche les plus innovantes du monde. La société fait le choix de la croissance durable tant au plan de la stratégie pour les clients que pour l’entreprise elle-même. Dans ce cadre, la société a pris livraison aujourd’hui de onze BMW i3 pour son parc automobile et prévoit des bornes de rechargement sur place et chez ses collaborateurs. Après SWIFT, il s’agit du plus grand parc de BMW i3 de Belgique.

Depuis l’été 2016, la BMW i3 offre une autonomie de 300 km selon le cycle NEDC soit plus de 200 km en conditions normales de circulation. En faisant le choix de la BMW i3 Advanced (qui comprend entre autres la navigation et les facilités de connectivité et de liaison avec le smartphone) équipée des sièges chauffants et de la possibilité de recharge rapide, cette voiture répond aux besoins de mobilité des professionnels modernes. Pour InSites, il est important que l’ensemble de la société soit impliquée dans le choix de la durabilité. Afin de permettre à chacun de ses onze collaborateurs utilisant une BMW i3 électrique d’aller en vacances avec leur propre voiture, le bureau d’études de marché a développé en collaboration avec EV-Point qui veille à l’infrastructure de rechargement, une plate-forme digitale interne où quasi toutes les voitures des collaborateurs sont disponibles. De la sorte, les conducteurs électriques peuvent utiliser 30 jours par an une voiture à moteur thermique et permettre aux autres collègues d’apprécier le plaisir de conduire électrique de la BMW i3.

Pour soutenir l’électrification de sa flotte, InSites prévoit des places de parking VIP pour les utilisateurs des voitures électriques: les plus proches de l’entrée et couvertes. Au total, l’entreprise prévoit plus de places VIP que le nombre de BMW i3 actuellement en service afin de faire face à la demande de tels véhicules à l’avenir.

Durabilité pour l’ensemble de la flotte.

Il s'agit là aussi d’un choix délibéré en fonction de la politique environnementale de l’entreprise qui recherche les émissions CO2 les plus faibles, là où justement BMW est très performante avec ses moteurs thermiques à faibles émissions grâce au programme BMW EfficientDynamics.

Suite à la mise à disposition de la première nouvelle BMW i3 à l’organisation de la marche ‘Dodentocht’, BMW Group Belux propose de nouvelles photos de la BMW i3 en action en Belgique et en cours de chargement à une borne locale. La “Dodentocht” est l’épreuve d’endurance sportive par excellence puisqu’elle propose aux marcheurs d’effectuer 100 km en 24 heures. Afin de préparer au mieux cette randonnée, l’organisation pourra compter sur la nouvelle BMW i3. Cette voiture électrique urbaine est disponible depuis ce mois de juillet avec 50% de capacité de batteries en plus lui conférant une autonomie pouvant aller jusqu’à 200 km, soit deux fois la distance du parcours de la « Dodentocht ».

BMW soutien l’organisation de la “Dodentocht” depuis près de vingt ans en mettant différentes voitures à disposition. Ainsi, une BMW X3 ou une BMW X5 est toujours prête à intervenir le long du parcours là où le parcours traverse des champs.

“Grâce à la nouvelle batterie plus puissante de la BMW i3, l’organisation dispose d’une voiture puissante toujours disponible qui réduit par ailleurs l’impact environnemental” a déclaré Thomas Heyens, responsable de BMW i au sein de la filiale belge de BMW.

“L’empreinte écologique est importante pour la “Dodentocht” et nous avons déjà pris plusieurs initiatives en la matière. C’est ainsi qu’une de nos équipes prend en charge l’installation et la récupération de poubelles sur une distance de +/- 20 km ainsi que le tri, nous demandons à nos fournisseurs d’effectuer les livraisons en vrac afin d’éviter les emballages inutiles, nous utilisons des gobelets réutilisables et nous lançons cette année des bidons biodégradables pour les promeneurs. La BMW i3 répond parfaitement à cette politique car elle nous permet de nous déplacer proprement grâce à son autonomie accrue” a dit Gunter Vergauwen, coordinateur en chef des 100 km « Dodentocht ».

La BMW i3 en avant avec ses nouvelles batteries.

Grâce à la densité plus élevée de l’accumulateur des cellules lithium-ion, la capacité de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) est de 33 kilowattheures (kWh), les dimensions de la batterie étant restant les mêmes. Il en résulte une augmentation de plus de 50 pourcent de l’autonomie en cycle normal (NEDC). Au lieu de 190 kilomètres, elle est désormais de 300 kilomètres, et une recharge de batterie permet même 200 kilomètres au quotidien dans des conditions météorologiques défavorables et lorsque la climatisation et le chauffage sont en marche. Les performances du moteur électrique synchrone hybride qui développe 170 ch / 125 kW restent pratiquement les mêmes, il accélère la BMW i3 de 0 à 100 km/h en 7,3 secondes. La BMW i3 est ainsi le véhicule électrique le plus sportif et en même temps le plus efficient de son segment (consommation de 12,6 kWh aux 100 km).

La BMW i3 avec prolongateur d’autonomie offre plus de 300km d’autonomie.

La variante de modèle avec Range Extender bénéficie aussi de la mise à jour. Le moteur thermique bicylindre maintient le niveau de charge de la batterie à un niveau constant et permet ainsi une autonomie supplémentaire de 150 kilomètres (BMW i3 (94 Ah); consommation de carburant en cycle mixte 0,6 l /100 km ; consommation d’électricité en cycle mixte 11,3 kWh /100 km ; émissions CO2 en cycle mixte : 12 g/km)*.

Le prix conseillé pour la BMW i3 (94 Ah) s’élève à 37.200 € en Belgique et à 36.000 € en Luxembourg. Pour la version Range Extender 41.690 € en Belgique et 40.350 € en Luxembourg.

Densité plus élevée de l’accumulateur des cellules de la batterie.
Avec une capacité des cellules de 94 ampères-heures (Ah), une énergie de la batterie de quelque 33 kWh et une autonomie électrique de 300 kilomètres ainsi atteinte selon le NEDC (nouveau cycle européen de conduite) ainsi que des performances de conduite typiques BMW, la BMW i3 (94 Ah) définit de nouveaux critères dans son segment.

Avec une consommation de 12,6 kWh aux 100 km (NEDC), il est le véhicule le plus efficient avec les coûts de consommation les plus bas de l’ordre de 3,15 euros aux 100 km** ou même inférieurs. Au quotidien, la nouvelle BMW i3 (94 Ah) a également nettement progressé et son autonomie peut atteindre 200 kilomètres même lorsque la climatisation ou le chauffage sont en marche, la dynamique de conduite et l’agilité restant subjectivement les mêmes : malgré l’intensité nettement plus élevée de la batterie, la BMW i3 (94 Ah) s’approche presque du record d’accélération tenu par la BMW i3 (60 Ah) dans le segment des véhicules électriques compacts. Les deux BMW ont ainsi réussi à établir une balance excellente entre l’efficience, les performances de conduite et l’autonomie. Du départ au feu jusqu’à la vitesse sur les routes de campagne, la BMW i3 (94 Ah) peut se mesurer aux véhicules sportifs mais propulsés conventionnellement par des moteurs thermiques.

La capacité de la batterie haute tension de la BMW i3 constituée de huit modules à douze cellules d’accumulateur chacun a nettement augmenté sans que les dimensions n’aient été modifiées. Grâce à l’optimisation du pack interne des cellules avec, davantage d’électrolyte et une amélioration du matériel actif, BMW a réussi en coopération avec Samsung SDL, à augmenter la capacité des cellules qui est ainsi passée à 93Ah ainsi que l’énergie totale de la batterie qui est maintenant de 33 kWh, dont 29 kWh sont utilisés effectivement. La batterie de la BMW i3 (60 Ah) atteint les valeurs de 22 kWh brut/19 kWh net.

Valeurs maximales pour la durabilité également.
Il a seulement suffi aux ingénieurs de BMW i d’effectuer de petites modifications pour intégrer la nouvelle batterie. L’ensemble de l’architecture du groupe propulseur électrique a été conçu en vue des prochaines étapes technologiques dès le développement de la BMW i3 si bien qu’aucune modification n’a été nécessaire pour la climatisation des modules de la batterie. Ceci souligne l’universalité et la sécurité du concept de véhicule à l’égard de l’avenir. Tout comme auparavant, il est également possible de remplacer sur la BMW i3 un seul module au lieu de toute la batterie. Quelque chose d’unique dans l’environnement concurrentiel et un élément constituant intégral du concept de durabilité holistique de BMW i. En ce qui concerne le bilan CO2 global qui comprend la chaîne de fourniture, la production, la phase de production et le recyclage, la BMW i3 obtient, tout comme auparavant, de meilleurs résultats qu’un véhicule moderne équipé d’un moteur diesel ou d’un moteur thermique. Lors de son lancement sur le marché en 2013, la BMW i3 était le premier véhicule à se targuer d’un bilan écologique certifié TÜV dont les valeurs étaient supérieures d’au moins un tiers à celles du bilan d’un véhicule conventionnel. L’alimentation en électricité exempte de CO2 des sites de production de la BMW i de Leipzig (montage) et de Moses Lake (production PRFC) y contribue essentiellement tout autant que la consommation en eau de la production inférieure d’au moins 70 pour cent à celle de la production des véhicules traditionnels.

Les cellules lithium-ion utilisées se distinguent dans l’environnement concurrentiel par un équilibre particulier entre la densité énergétique élevée, la résistance au cyclage et la sécurité en cas de collision. Le réfrigérant de la climatisation assure un refroidissement très efficient de l’accumulateur haute tension, La batterie peut également être réchauffée au moyen d’un chauffage optionnel pour garantir la température optimale d’environ 20 degrés Celsius dès le démarrage. La batterie est conçue pour la durée de vie du véhicule. Une garantie de huit ans ou de 100.000 kilomètres est accordée aux clients sur l’accumulateur d’électricité.

Programme Retrofit : remplacement de la batterie sur demande.
Chez BMW i, la durabilité est au centre de l’intérêt. Le client peut être sûr de pouvoir adapter sa BMW i aux développements techniques les plus récents tout en ménageant les ressources grâce à l’architecture flexible du véhicule LifeDrive. La BMW i3 est le premier véhicule au monde dans le segment compact premium dont le concept de véhicule a été prévu dès le départ pour la mise en place d’un système de propulsion purement électrique. Un élément de ce concept est également la mise en place ultérieure de nouvelles technologies de batterie dans le véhicule.

Dans le cadre de l’introduction de la nouvelle batterie 94 A, le programme Retrofit de batteries haute tension de BMW offre aux acheteurs BMW i la possibilité de mettre à niveau leur BMW i3 purement électrique et de l’équiper du nouvel accumulateur de 33 kWh. Ce programme est proposé sur des marchés sélectionnés. Les batteries 22 kWh échangées par les clients sont utilisées pour créer des modules d’accumulateurs d’énergie stationnaires et connaissent ainsi une deuxième vie – preuve de la durabilité élevée de la technique BMW i sur tout le cycle de production et de vie.

Optimisation du déroulement de la puissance, surplus d’efficience du moteur.
La BMW i3 est de loin le véhicule le plus léger de son segment. Malgré l’augmentation du poids du véhicule qui est maintenant passé à 1 245 kilogrammes, la BMW i3 (94 Ah) offre des performances de conduite qui ne sont subjectivement pas en reste avec l’agilité de la variante de modèle de 60 Ah, ceci grâce à des modifications de l’électronique de puissance et du système de commande garantissant un déroulement optimal de la puissance. À cela vient s’ajouter le déroulement plus favorable de la tension sous charge du nouvel accumulateur 94 Ah pour des raisons de physique.

Sur la BMW i3 (94 Ah), c’est également le moteur électrique synchrone hybride spécialement développé et fabriqué par le BMW Group qui est responsable de la propulsion. Il délivre une puissance de 170 ch / 125 KW ainsi qu’un couple maximal de 250 newtons-mètres, immédiatement disponible départ arrêté. La BMW i3 (94 Ah) s’acquitte du zéro aux 100 kilomètres en 7,3 secondes et atteint une vitesse de 60 km/h en seulement 3,8 secondes.

Quant à la valeur d’élasticité de 5,1 secondes pour l’accélération de 80 à 120 km/h, – déterminante pour les manœuvres de dépassement courtes et sûres – elle se situe dans les plages sportives qui ne sont possibles sur des véhicules animés par des moteurs thermique que lorsque ces derniers sont nettement plus puissants. La BMW i3 (94 Ah) agit ici d’égal à égal avec des véhicules tels que la BMW 440i Coupé animé par un moteur de 326 ch (240 kW) (consommation de carburant en cycle mixte : 7,7–7,4 l/100 km ; émissions CO2 en cycle mixte : 179–172 g/km)*. La transmission du couple sur les roues arrière est confiée à un réducteur à un étage ; la BMW i3 accélère ainsi sans interruption de la force de traction jusqu’à sa vitesse maximale limitée à 150 km/h pour des raisons d’efficience, ceci étant valable pour les deux variantes de batterie.

Grâce à une kyrielle de perfectionnements au niveau des détails, dont la revue de la commande du moteur électrique ainsi que des pneus une nouvelle encore une fois optimisés avec basse résistance au roulement, la consommation en courant de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) baisse également. Elle est de 12,6 kWh/100 km en cycle NEDC, la meilleure valeur dans l’environnement concurrentiel. La valeur de comparaison de la BMW i3 (60 Ah) est de 12,9 kWh/100 km.

Électronique de charge plus rapide : charger en trois phases jusqu’à 11 kW.
Une capacité de la batterie supérieure de 50 pour cent signifie de manière générale que les temps de charge se prolongeraient en conséquence si la technique de charge n’avait pas été adaptée aux nouvelles situations. Pour pouvoir cadencer le pas avec la plus grande capacité de la batterie lors de la charge en courant alternatif (AC), la charge rapide AC a été perfectionnée. La nouvelle batterie 94 Ah permet d’augmenter la charge rapide en plusieurs phases jusqu’à une capacité de charge de 11 kW et s’oriente ainsi au standard de capacité le plus étendu de l’infrastructure de charge publique.

La nouvelle électronique de charge plus performante de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) traite les courants de charge avec 11 kW, une augmentation de 50 pour cent par rapport à la BMW i3 (60 Ah) qui peut être chargée avec un courant alternatif à une phase à 7,4 kW. Malgré la capacité nettement plus élevée de la batterie, le temps de charge de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) est inférieur à trois heures - comme aujourd’hui avec une batterie de 60 Ah et un courant de charge de 7,4 kW.

La BMW i3 est équipée de série d’un câble de recharge autorisant le branchement à une prise domestique. La BMW i3 (94 Ah) peut être rechargée avec un courant de 2,8 kW en moins de dix heures ; quant à la batterie de la BMW i3 (60 Ah), elle nécessite environ huit heures. L’alliance parfaite entre l’autonomie importante dans la pratique, l’agilité typique BMW liée au poids faible et la recharge de la batterie pendant la nuit est ainsi maintenu.

Aujourd’hui déjà, la BMW i3 propose également la recharge rapide de 50 kW en courant continu (DC) qui présente des perspectives d’avenir. Lorsque la BMW i3 (94 Ah) est branchée à une borne de recharge rapide 50 kW, les cellules de la batterie se remplissent à au moins 80 pour cent de leur capacité en moins de 40 minutes. Sur la BMW i3 (60 Ah), cette valeur est obtenue en moins de 25 minutes. La BMW i3 (94 Ah) atteint ainsi une vitesse de charge de 4 km/min, ce qui correspond à un temps de charge de 24 minutes pour une autonomie de 100 kilomètres.

Range Extender pour encore plus d’autonomie.
BMW i propose également un Range Extender pour la BMW i3 (94 Ah). Cette fonction de prolongateur d’autonomie est remplie par un moteur thermique bicylindre de 650 centimètres cubes qui est logé à proximité directe du moteur électrique au-dessus de l’essieu arrière. Le Range Extender génère une puissance maximale de 38 ch /28 kW et entraîne un générateur pour produire de l’électricité. Son fonctionnement est piloté en fonction des besoins et avec une efficience élevée. Il maintient le niveau de charge des batteries lithium-ion à un niveau constant pendant le trajet dès que celui-ci descend à une valeur déterminée et permet ainsi un plus d’autonomie de 150 kilomètres dans les conditions quotidiennes. L’équipement du véhicule avec le Range Extender n’est pas aux dépens du volume du coffre à bagages. Le réservoir de neuf litres étant logé dans la partie avant, le volume du coffre à bagages reste ainsi de 260 litres, et lorsque les sièges arrière sont rabattus, il cube même 1 100 litres.

Bien que le poids total de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) équipée du Range Extender soit supérieur de quelque 120 kilogrammes, celle-ci convainc toutefois également par une agilité élevée et des performances routières impressionnantes. Elle abat le zéro à 100 km en l’espace de 8.1 secondes. Les émissions de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) équipée du Range Extender s’établissent à12 g/km CO2 (NEFZ) alors que la BMW i3 à propulsion exclusivement électrique ne génère localement aucune émission. Aussi bien au niveau des performances routières que de l’efficience, la BMW i3 (94 Ah) est ainsi en tête de son segment - qu’il s’agisse d’un pur véhicule électrique ou d’un véhicule doté d’un Range Extender.

Nouvelles dotations.
La BMW i3 (94 Ah) se reconnaît immédiatement dans la rue lorsque son propriétaire a opté en faveur de la peinture métallisée Protonic Blue exclusivement disponible pour cette variante de motorisation. Celle-ci était réservée jusqu’alors à la voiture sport hybride BMW i8 et est désormais également disponible pour la BMW i3. Pour configurer sa BMW i3 (94 Ah), le client peut choisir alternativement entre deux couleurs unies (Capparis White et Fluid Black) ainsi que trois autres peintures métallisées (Mineral Grey, Platin Silver et Ionic Silver) en plus de Protonic Blue.

La BMW i3 se décline en quatre designs intérieurs. Outre la ligne de base Atelier, il s’agit de Loft, Lodge et Suite. À l’avenir, la dotation intérieure comprendra plus d’options et de combinaisons. L’insert décoratif Dark Oak est également un nouvel élément. Le chêne foncé noble est de série dans la dotation Suite ; dans les autres dotations, il peut être commandé en option tout comme l’insert en bois d’eucalyptus déjà disponible. Le choix des matières constitué d’un mélange de cuir travaillé naturellement, de bois et de laine ainsi que de matières renouvelables fait ressortir et ressentir la caractéristique premium enrichie de l’aspect de la durabilité.

Le pack de dotation Driving Assistant Plus est également disponible en option dès maintenant dans la ligne de dotation Atelier. La dotation Driving Assistant Plus comprend un régulateur de vitesse assisté par caméra avec fonction de freinage et fonctionnement Stop&Go, l’assistant d'embouteillage, le système Speed Limit Info, l’avertisseur de la présence de personnes et de risque de collision avec fonction de freinage en ville et de plus un assistant d'anticipation.

Le véhicule électrique avec le plus grand succès de son segment dans le monde entier.
En fondant la marque BMW i et en décidant de développer une architecture de véhicule autonome ainsi que des habitacles en plastique renforcé de fibres de carbone (PRFC) et une technologie BMW eDrive pour moteurs électriques, le BMW Group s’est investi une fonction de pionnier. Aussi bien la BMW i3 conçue pour la mobilité zéro émission au niveau local dans l’environnement urbain que la voiture sport hybride rechargeable BMW i8 allient le plaisir de conduire à un caractère premium qui s’inscrit résolument dans le contexte de la durabilité. Recharge confortable à la maison : les nouvelles bornes de recharge BMW i Wallbox.
Lors du lancement de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) à l’été 2016, BMW i proposera une nouvelle BMW i Wallbox dans le monde entier pour permettre la recharge rapide et confortable dans le garage domestique ou sur la place de stationnement privée. Cette Wallbox est adaptée à la nouvelle électronique de charge et offre, outre un fonctionnement à une phase, désormais également un fonctionnement à trois phases avec une capacité de charge pouvant atteindre 22 kW.

La nouvelle Wallbox se démarque non seulement par une forme plus plate et plus compacte que le modèle précédent, mais aussi par une capacité plus élevée qui permet de recharger la batterie de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) en deux heures et 45minutes. La recharge démarre automatiquement dès que le véhicule et le câble de recharge sont reliés. La BMW iWallbox est commandée par une interface à LED.

Fin 2016, deux autres versions avec fonctions de confort et d’interconnexion supplémentaires suivront cette Wallbox. Elles pourront ainsi être adaptées exactement aux besoins des particuliers et des clients qui ont des flottes d’un ou plusieurs véhicules. La BMW I Wallbox offre, entre autres, une reconnaissance automatique des véhicules interconnectés et une affectation des données de charge via une appli de smartphone. Quant à La Wallbox Connect BMW i dotée de série du WiFi, elle est déjà entièrement connectée au réseau. Elle offre toutes les fonctions de la BMW i Wallbox Plus et se démarque de plus par des services de charge innovants pour la commande en ligne intelligente. Les quantités de courant des différents véhicules sont non seulement saisis séparément, les données peuvent également être envoyées par mail immédiatement après la fin de l’opération de recharge et ainsi utilisées à des fins de facturation.

Aussi bien la BMW i Wallbox Plus que la BMW i Wallbox Connect se laissent intégrer dans une habitation intelligente interconnectée et elles sont actuellement compatibles avec les systèmes de commande de MyGEKKO et Loxone. La BMW i3 peut ainsi être alimentée en courant électrique vert généré à partir de l’installation solaire domestique.

De plus, les Wallbox BMW i contribuent à économiser du courant de batterie pendant le pré-conditionnement du véhicule. Lors de ce pré-conditionnement, la climatisation du véhicule et le chauffage e l’accumulateur haute tension peuvent être activés par l’intermédiaire du smartphone. Le préchauffage de l’accumulateur assure un état de service optimal pour la performance, l’autonomie et la durée de vie de la batterie même en cas de températures extérieures basses. Lorsque le pré-conditionnement est effectué au niveau de la Wallbox BMW i, le courant nécessaire n’est pas pris sur la batterie du véhicule, mais provient du réseau du fournisseur d’électricité et n’affecte donc pas l’autonomie.

BMW i n’offre toutefois pas seulement cette large gamme de bornes murales Wallbox, son service d’installation unique prend également en charge la vérification de l’installation du domicile sur place chez le client, la fourniture et le montage de la borne de recharge. De plus, BMW i propose également des prestations d’entretien et de conseil ainsi que d’autres prestations de service.

En route dans le pays et à l’étranger : recharge confortable avec ChargeNow.
ChargeNow. de BMW i possède plus de 40 000 points de recharge de différents exploitants dans 25 pays à l’heure actuelle et ainsi le plus grand réseau mondial de points de recharge d’accès public pour les véhicules électriques et les véhicules hybrides rechargeables. La carte ChargeNow et l’appli du même nom permettent aux clients un accès confortable aux bornes de recharge de tous les exploitants regroupés dans le réseau international ainsi que la facturation et le paiement sans espèces. Les opérations de connexion compliquées et de longue haleine avec différents fournisseurs sont désormais du passé. Le système est intégré dans le système de navigation et assisté par des applis correspondantes pour aider le conducteur à trouver et choisir une borne de recharge faisant partie du réseau ChargeNow.

ConnectedDrive : une référence en matière d’interconnexion
Le système de navigation Professional disponible en option offre des BMW ConnectedDrive Services spécialement mis au point pour la BMW i. L’assistant d’autonomie accompagne le calcul d’itinéraire et le parcours actuel. Dès que la destination sélectionnée dans le système de navigation est hors de la plage d’autonomie, il est proposé au conducteur de passer en mode ECO PRO ou ECO PRO+ ; de plus, le système calcule un trajet alternatif plus efficient. Si le conducteur doit faire la recharge à une borne de recharge publique, les bornes disponibles le long de son trajet sont affichées sur l’écran de navigation.

Un autre élément central de l’unité de navigation interconnectée est une carte d’autonomie dynamique qui tient compte de l’état de charge de la batterie, du style de conduite, des fonctions confort électriques activées et du mode de conduite sélectionné, mais aussi des données topographiques, des conditions de circulation ainsi que de la température extérieure. Les données sur l’évolution du trafic en temps réel du système Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) fournies par le serveur BMW ConnectedDrive sont également prises en compte.

Concernant l’interconnexion entre le conducteur et le véhicule, la BMW i3 établit de nouveaux critères elle aussi. La BMW i Remote App envoie également les données du véhicule utiles à la planification de la mobilité sur le smartphone du client. Outre la navigation des piétons pour le trajet entre la place de stationnement et la destination et retour, BMW ConnectedDrive offre avec Navigation Professional pour la première fois dans le secteur automobile un service Intermodal Routing qui intègre également les transports publics dans le calcul de l’itinéraire lorsque la destination peut ainsi être atteinte plus rapidement. Les BMW i ConnectedDrive Services conduisent le client à sa destination avec précision et efficience dès sa montée à bord dans la BMW i3 et jusqu’à la dernière étape qu’il fait à pied en passant par la recherche d’une place de stationnement ou d’un arrêt de bus ou de métro.

La riche dotation de série aussi bien de la BMW i3 (94 Ah) que de la BMW i3 (60 Ah) comprend, tout comme auparavant, le système de conduite iDrive, la fonctionnalité BMW i RemoteApp, le chauffage d’appoint ainsi que le sélecteur de mode de conduite, Radio professional, le dispositif de téléphone mains-libres, la climatisation, le volant cuir, l’éclairage diurne à LED, le Park Distance Control (PDC) avec capteurs à l’arrière ainsi que le câble de recharge pour le branchement à une prise domestique.

EVORA répertorie les liens manquants afin de réaliser l'installation de l'infrastructure de chargement pour voitures électriques dans cinq villes flamandes.

Les voitures électriques se prêtent idéalement à une utilisation urbaine. EVORA, la plate-forme flamande pour bornes de recharge accessibles au public, a développé au cours de l’année écoulée trois piliers communs, par le biais desquels cinq villes flamandes veulent à l’avenir soutenir localement le conducteur de voiture électrique en collaboration avec des constructeurs de voitures et des gestionnaires de réseau. Ces trois piliers s’intitulent « La borne de recharge suit la voiture », « Échelle de chargement » et « Uniformité dans les bornes de recharge ». Des explications à ce sujet ont été données aujourd’hui lors de l’événement de clôture à Anvers, où les partenaires EVORA et Annemie Turtelboom, Vice-Ministre-Présidente, ont présenté leur vision sur l’avenir de l’infrastructure de chargement pour véhicules électriques.

EVORA a été fondée entre autres par BMW.

La plate-forme EVORA a été créée en 2014, à l’initiative des marques automobiles Audi, BMW, Nissan, Renault et Volkswagen, des villes d’Anvers, Hasselt, Louvain, Malines et Saint-Trond, des gestionnaires de réseau Eandis et Infrax, de Blue Mobility/Olympus Mobility et The New Drive. Outre ces initiateurs, différentes autres parties ont également joué un rôle dans l'offre de bornes de recharge accessibles au public, par exemple les fournisseurs d'énergie, les fournisseurs de bornes de recharge, etc. Les connaissances et l'expertise de toutes ces parties ont été centralisées au sein d'EVORA afin de répondre conjointement à la question de savoir comment charger son véhicule dans les villes lorsque l'on ne dispose pas de son propre emplacement de parking.

Deux ans après avoir été lancée, la BMW i3 s’est hissée au sommet de son segment dans le monde. En Belgique, la BMW i3 représente 48% des véhicules électriques urbains vendus. En Allemagne, une voiture électrique vendue sur quatre est une BMW i3, une sur dix dans le monde. Puissante, agile, interconnectée et par-dessus tout sans émissions : grâce à ces qualités, la BMW i3 entièrement électrique est aussi de plus en plus souvent employée en tant que véhicule d’intervention par les forces de police, des services de secours et d’incendie. BMW offre le premier véhicule conçu dès le départ pour la seule mobilité électrique en mettant en œuvre une gamme d’options spécifiquement développées pour les équipes d’intervention d’urgence élargissant ainsi les champs d’application de la mobilité électrique dans un environnement urbain. Les autorités de Bavière, de Milan, Los Angeles et Londres ont déjà ajouté la première BMW i3 à leur flotte de véhicules d’intervention. The BMW i3 features a vehicle architecture that was specifically developed for electric and plug-in models. The key elements are the carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cabin and an aluminium chassis comprising all drive and suspension components. This construction method helps to provide the four-metre-long, five-door car not only with a remarkably spacious and variable interior, but also a small turning circle as well as agile and safe handling characteristics. A high seating position and excellent all-round visibility offer the ideal prerequisites for use in urban traffic conditions. The 125 kW/170 hp electric motor accelerates the standard BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 12.9 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) from 0-100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds. The car’s lithium-ion high voltage battery permits a vehicle range of up to 160 kilometres in day-to-day operation.

The specific equipment featured in the BMW i3 is the result of more than 50 years of experience in the field of emergency vehicle development. Thus BMW is the only car manufacturer that is able to offer police, rescue and fire service task forces a range of equipment ex works that is exclusively aligned to each individual requirement. Depending on the area of use, the vehicles are provided with the corresponding design foils and roof bars. A special signalling system, front and rear flashers as well as pressure-chamber loudspeakers ensure that other road users are warned in good time when the BMW i3 is on an emergency assignment. The range of equipment also includes a preliminary setup for digital radio.

Moreover, thanks to a permanently installed SIM card, it is possible to make use of intelligent networking technology inside the BMW i3 to make work easier for emergency personnel. The ConnectedRescue system, which is based on BMW Connected Drive, offers the optional possibility of transmitting from the control centre to the vehicle all important information – including address, reason for assignment and contact person – clearly and intuitively operable and readable. The transmitted target coordinates or addresses can directly serve the navigation system’s route guidance, meaning that manual input of the navigation destination is no longer required. In this way, transmission errors are eliminated. The driver can concentrate fully on the traffic whilst the team prepares directly for the assignment. This enhances both safety and efficiency of rescue forces.

The BMW i3 is also conquering unusual business areas. The latest example is the Polish Idea Bank, which uses the BMW i3 in Warsaw for a pick-up service that is uncommon in the banking business. Shop owners are able to request via an app the BMW i3 in use as a security car to pay in their daily takings conveniently, directly and in front of their own shop door.
