quatre cylindres. +++ Disponibles à partir de l'été 2024 : Modèles
Touring. +++

Munich. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is now on the
road. The first vehicles were delivered to customers in Europe and
Japan a few days ago. Now in its sixth generation, the sporty
all-rounder in the premium segment of the upper mid-range vehicle
segment is being launched for the first time as the all-electric BMW
i5 Touring. Two models with purely electric drive and two with
highly efficient four-cylinder diesel engines are available for the
market launch. By summer 2024, the range of the new BMW 5 Series
Touring and Sedan will be extended to include additional models with
plug-in hybrid drive and an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine.

The Bavarian premium car manufacturer is systematically continuing
the electrification of its model range with the BMW i5 Touring and
the soon-to-be-available plug-in hybrid versions of the new BMW 5
Series Touring. The top model of the new series is the BMW i5 M60
xDrive Touring* with up to 442 kW/601 hp. At its side is the new BMW
i5 eDrive40 Touring* with an output of up to 250 kW/340 hp and a
range of up to 560 kilometres (348 miles) determined in the WLTP
test cycle.

In addition, the BMW 520d Touring* and BMW 520d xDrive Touring*
models, which are particularly popular in Europe, are now available.
Their four-cylinder diesel engine is combined with 48-volt mild
hybrid technology and develops a maximum output of 145 kW/197 hp.

Plug-in hybrid drive and BMW xDrive for Sedan and Touring models.

Plug-in hybrid technology will be introduced in the new BMW 5
Series Touring in summer 2024. Two models will be available. The new
BMW 530e Touring* transmits the power of its two engines to the rear
wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. In the new BMW 530e
xDrive Touring*, intelligent all-wheel drive ensures optimum
traction, agility and driving stability in all road conditions. This
drive technology combination will also be available in the BMW 5
Series Sedan from summer 2024. The new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan* will
be the third model variant of the four-door model with plug-in
hybrid system.

The drive system of the three new models consists of a
four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into
the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which together generate a
system output of 220 kW/299 hp. The high-voltage battery provides a
usable energy content of 19.4 kWh and enables an electric range of
83 to 95 kilometres (51 to 59 miles) for the new BMW 530e Touring,
82 to 89 kilometres (50 to 55 miles) for the new BMW 530e xDrive
Touring and 82 to 93 kilometres (50 to 58 miles) for the new BMW
530e xDrive Sedan.

In the new BMW 5 Series Touring, there is also no loss of transport
capacity when choosing a plug-in hybrid model. Thanks to the
space-saving arrangement of the high-voltage battery in the
underbody of the vehicle, the length, width and height of the
completely flat luggage compartment are the same as those of the
models with combustion engine and all-electric drive. Luggage
capacity is 570 litres with all seats occupied and can be increased
to 1,700 litres if required.

Available from summer 2024: Six-cylinder in-line diesel
engine in the BMW 5 Series.

The range of engines available for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and
Touring models will be extended in summer 2024 to include a straight
six-cylinder diesel engine. The drive unit of the BMW 540d xDrive
Sedan and BMW 540d xDrive Touring from the BMW Group's latest
modular generation is combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology
in the form of a crankshaft starter generator. Together, the
combustion engine and the electric motor integrated into the 8-speed
Steptronic transmission generate a maximum output of 223 kW/303 hp
and a maximum torque of 670 Nm (494 lb/ft).

Torque is distributed fully variably to all four wheels via the
intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The dynamic power
delivery of the in-line six-cylinder diesel engine and the superior
power transmission are reflected in the 5.2-second acceleration time
from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph), which is the same for both the new
BMW 540d xDrive Sedan* and the new BMW 540d xDrive Touring.

Munich.
selon WLTP ; données selon NEDC : -) La BMW 550e xDrive Berline
(consommation de carburant combinée : 1,0 - 0,8 litres/100 km (62
miles) ; consommation d'énergie combinée : 23,2 - 21,6 kWh/100 km (62
miles) ; émissions de CO2 combinées : 23 - 19 g/km selon WLTP ;
données selon NEDC : -) peuvent être commandées dès maintenant. Elles

17 - 13

Munich. At the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor
show in Munich, the BMW Group will be presenting the most recent
highlights of its ongoing transformation in the key action areas of
electrification, digitalisation and circularity. The latest new models
with electrified powertrains from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad
brands, plus Vision Vehicles and concepts for individual mobility in
tomorrow’s world all serve to underline the company’s innovative
strength in these fields. As the dawn of a new era in personal
mobility approaches, the BMW Group is set to unveil its latest
highlight, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which brings together the
Group’s development expertise in the three crucial disciplines for the
future of mobility.

The IAA Mobility show is being staged in Munich for the second time.
For the BMW Group and its brands, this provides an excellent
opportunity to enter into constructive dialogue on the future of
individual mobility with local people, as well as with visitors to the
show from outside Munich and other stakeholders. The IAA Mobility
Summit at the exhibition centre and the BMW Group’s Open Space at
Max-Joseph-Platz in the heart of Munich will be the main arenas where
BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad present their new products on 5 –
10 September 2023. Among the models visitors can acquaint themselves
with here alongside the BMW Vision Neue Klasse is the fully electric
BMW i5. And they can also experience the world premieres of the new
fully electric MINI Cooper, new fully electric MINI Countryman and
BMW CE 02 eParkourer.

Electric, digital, circular – the focus areas of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group’s presence at IAA Mobility 2023 revolves around the
company’s rigorous focus on electric, digital and circular mobility
for the future and the latest progress it has made in these areas. The
BMW Vision Neue Klasse is joined by a selection of new models from
across the Group’s brands whose electrified powertrains, digital
innovations and resource-efficient manufacturing illustrate the
ongoing process of change in a variety of ways.

The new products poised for launch by the BMW brand include the
plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 5 Series. The new
BMW i7 Protection – the first ever all-electric protection vehicle in
the luxury sedan segment – is also making its debut at IAA Mobility 2023.

MINI is unveiling the members of the brand’s new model family for the
first time with the help of two world premieres: the new fully
electric MINI Cooper and new fully electric MINI Countryman will both
be on show at the Open Space site. A new model with all-electric drive
also forms the centrepiece of BMW Motorrad’s line-up at
Max-Joseph-Platz. Conceived as a compact eParkourer with a
trailblazing design, the new BMW CE 02 injects fresh impetus into the
urban mobility scene.

Locally emission-free mobility sets the theme for the models
on show.

The IAA Mobility show will be officially opened on 5 September at
Munich’s exhibition centre. The BMW Group will be represented at its
stand in Hall A2, where the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be unveiled to
kick off the event. The BMW i7 Protection all-electric protection
vehicle will also be presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility Summit.

The IAA Mobility Summit is taking place under the banner “Experience
Connected Mobility” and is aimed primarily at trade visitors. It will
showcase trends and technological innovations for future mobility over
the course of numerous talks, presentations and panel discussions. One
of the central topics is the use of hydrogen as an energy source for
current and future vehicles. BMW is carrying out pioneering work in
this field with its development and practical testing of a Sports
Activity Vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system. The
BMW iX5 Hydrogen is also being exhibited at the Summit.

Locally emission-free mobility is also the dominant theme for the
models awaiting visitors to the Open Space site. BMW has at least one
purely electrically powered representative in all relevant model
segments. The brand is presenting its entire line-up to the public,
ranging from the BMW iX1 compact Sports Activity Vehicle via the BMW
i4 and BMW i5 to the BMW iX and the BMW i7 luxury sedan.

The Open Space at Max-Joseph-Platz can be visited free of charge on 5
– 9 September from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 10 September from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, BMW Welt will continue to provide an
attractive destination for all automotive enthusiasts during IAA
Mobility 2023. The current model portfolios of the BMW, MINI,
Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands are presented here, along with the
latest BMW and MINI Lifestyle collections. Plus, starting on
2 September 2023, BMW Lifestyle together with BMW M GmbH will be
running a GOODS WITH FREUDE pop-up store in the Hofstatt shopping
centre at No. 10 Sendlinger Straße. Located just a few minutes’ walk
away from the Open Space, the store will feature both familiar
lifestyle articles and the new BMW Lifestyle collection.

World premiere: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse.

At IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Group is offering visitors a preview of
the Neue Klasse – the forthcoming generation of models from BMW. The
BMW Vision Neue Klasse brings together innovations from the areas of
electrification, digitalisation and circularity in signature BMW
style. The Vision Vehicle takes design, control/operation, efficiency
and sustainability into a whole new dimension – one that it will be
possible to experience on the road before long.

During IAA Mobility 2023, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse will be on show
at both the Summit and the Open Space. The new Vision Vehicle
incorporates the latest innovations in the BMW Group’s key
future-focused fields. It therefore builds on the BMW i Vision
Circular and the BMW i Vision Dee – which have already demonstrated
the BMW Group’s development expertise in the areas of circular economy
and digitalisation – and combines their qualities with further new
developments in exterior and interior design, user experience and
powertrain and battery technology.

World premiere: the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW
5 Series Sedan.

As well as the all-electric BMW i5, the brand is exhibiting two other
model variants with electrified powertrains at IAA Mobility 2023. As
early as spring 2024, two models featuring state-of-the-art plug-in
hybrid technology will be added to the new BMW 5 Series Sedan range.
Their six-cylinder and four-cylinder in-line petrol engines from the
new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics units will each be
combined with the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid
systems. This will result in a notable increase in output and much
sharper power delivery, while also significantly improving efficiency
and electric range compared to the outgoing model generation.

The electric motor purpose-developed for the new plug-in hybrid
system is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission together with its power electronics. The highly
integrated drive unit contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the maximum
combined output of 360 kW/489 hp in the case of the new
BMW 550e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km
[256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 22.5 –
20.1 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 24 – 19 g/km in
WLTP cycle, provisional figures) and 220 kW/299 hp for the new
BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 0.8 – 0.6 l/100 km [353.1 –
470.8 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 21.4 –
18.9 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 19 – 14 g/km in
WLTP cycle, provisional figures).

A BMW-patented innovation has been used to enhance the electric
motor’s power delivery in the new plug-in hybrid models: a pre-gearing
stage enables the nominal torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to be increased
to effective torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission
input for the motor. The compact electric motor is therefore able to
boost torque by an amount that would normally only be possible using a
larger unit and makes a clear difference both when accelerating off
the line and putting in a rapid burst of speed. Electric range is now
up to 79 – 90 kilometres (49 – 56 miles) in the WLTP cycle for the new
BMW 550e xDrive Sedan and 87 – 101 kilometres (54 – 63 miles) in the
WLTP cycle for the new BMW 530e Sedan.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery’s space-saving positioning
within the vehicle’s underbody has a beneficial effect on both the
car’s centre of gravity and the capacity of its luggage compartment,
which holds a total of 520 litres in the plug-in hybrid models –
meaning it is just as large as that offered by their purely
combustion-engined siblings. The usable energy provided by the
high-voltage battery has climbed to 19.4 kWh. At the same time,
maximum charging capacity has doubled compared to the outdoing models
and now stands at 7.4 kW, enabling the high-voltage battery to be
fully recharged from empty in 3.0 hours. When hooked up to a
conventional domestic power socket, a full vehicle charge is completed
in 9.8 hours.

World premiere: the BMW i7 Protection.

BMW is presenting a new generation of protection vehicles in the
luxury sedan segment at the IAA Mobility 2023 show. The new BMW i7
Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0
kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is absolutely unique in this segment,
as it is the world’s first ever certified protection sedan with an
all-electric drive system. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it
meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any
limitations, as does the new V8-engined BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel
consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 14.6 l/100 km [19.3 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions: 328 g/km, provisional figures).

Both models blend the integrated protection concept channelled into
the development of the new BMW 7 Series range with outstanding levels
of ride comfort and spaciousness, advanced equipment features and the
unbeatable dynamic prowess for which BMW is renowned. The concept
centres around the new and unique BMW Protection Core, which forms a
self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then
combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody
and roof, plus armoured glass. The result is customised protection
from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. The
glass in the new protection vehicles even meets the requirements for
the highest class of civilian protection, VPAM 10.

The all-electric BMW i7 Protection is equipped with one electric
motor at the front axle and another at the rear. Together they
generate a combined output of 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined
torque of 745 Nm (549 lb-ft), and create an electric all-wheel-drive
system. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from
rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to
160 km/h (99 mph). The instantaneous, precisely orchestrated power
delivery from the two motors guarantees exceptional traction and
directional stability even when the car is being driven hard and
performing challenging manoeuvres, such as when escaping from an attack.

Tuned and optimised specifically for this model, the chassis
technology also makes allowance for the additional weight of its
armouring, resulting in superbly assured performance in any situation.
Another unique offering for this segment is the inclusion of Integral
Active Steering as standard. This reduces the car’s turning circle,
increases agility when cornering at speed and improves driving comfort
for rear-seat passengers. The 20-inch light-alloy wheels are a further
standout feature. The PAX tyres that also come as standard allow the
car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the
event of a total loss of pressure.

The latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5
is fitted, complete with the BMW Curved Display. The system is
intuitive to use and operates in a way familiar to BMW drivers. The
special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated
via BMW iDrive. The new protection vehicles can also be tailored
precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply
system, a fire extinguishing system, flashing lights, radio
transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus
other special customer-specific options.

Trailblazing: the BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen presented at IAA Mobility 2023 provides further
evidence of the company’s superlative innovative strength in the field
of drive technology. A pilot series of the Sports Activity Vehicle
with hydrogen fuel-cell drive, developed on the basis of the current
BMW X5, has entered service for demonstration and test purposes with
various target groups around the world. This allows selected test
groups who haven’t been involved in the development process to get
behind the wheel of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and gain a direct impression
of its attributes for the first time.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is equipped with the latest, fifth generation of
BMW eDrive technology. The highly integrated drive unit at the rear
axle draws its energy from a high-performance battery with li-ion
technology that was specially developed for the hydrogen fuel-cell
vehicle and generates maximum output of 295 kW/401 hp. The electric
motor also doubles as a generator that feeds energy back into the
high-performance battery on the overrun or under braking.

The model’s two 700-bar tanks made from carbon-fibre-reinforced
plastic (CFRP) together hold six kilograms of gaseous hydrogen and can
be refilled in three to four minutes. A chemical reaction takes place
in the fuel cell system between the hydrogen and oxygen from the air,
through which the electric power for the electric motor is generated.
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen achieves a range of 504 kilometres (313 miles) in
the WLTP cycle without having to refill the tanks. The
hydrogen-powered SAV completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in
under six seconds and goes on to reach a top speed in excess of
180 km/h (112 mph).

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines long-distance capabilities and short
refuelling stops with zero tailpipe emissions and hallmark BMW driving
dynamics. Its hydrogen fuel-cell technology has the potential –
provided the necessary basic conditions are in place – to serve as an
additional pillar in the BMW Group’s future powertrain portfolio. As
part of its ongoing transformation, the BMW Group is following an
approach that embraces all technologies when it comes to drive
systems. The company is therefore readying itself for differing
customer requirements, infrastructure standards and political and
regulatory frameworks in the various regions of the world. This degree
of flexibility puts the BMW Group in a position to react quickly to
changing requirements in the markets in any situation and to present
as many customers as possible with an appropriate model offering at
all times.

Contact presse: Jeroen Lissens
Tél: +32-3-890-9708
Adresse e-mail: jeroen.lissens@bmw.be

Press Release,Research & Development,Drive Technologies,BMW i,Mobility of the future,Sedan,7 Series,5 Series,G30,G05,Europe,530e,i7,G70,G60,i5,550e,Munich,iX5 Hydrogen,iX5,Product,BMW

Munich. Increased efficiency through consistent
electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of
driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model
revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect
in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand
will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission
standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid
models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder
diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel
consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and
BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive
portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Efficiency becomes more diverse: World premiere for five
plug-in hybrid models in the BMW 5 Series.
The range of BMW models with electrified drive
systems will also be consistently expanded in autumn 2020. The
expanded range of the following electrified models is especially
attractive: BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined:
2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption:
16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions:
53 – 49 g/km; electric range: 47 – 57 km), BMW 530e Touring (combined
fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption:
16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions:
46 – 42 g/km; electric range: 52 – 57 km (WLTP)) and BMW 530e xDrive
Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power
consumption: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO2
emissions: 54 – 50 g/km; electric range: 48 – 53 km (WLTP)). The BMW 5
Series model range now already includes five plug-in hybrid variants.
In the upper mid-size class, BMW offers the largest selection of
models with electrified drive.

In the new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine
and an electric drive integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic
transmission deliver impressive driving dynamics in a particularly
efficient manner. The power of the two drive units adds up to a
maximum system output of 290 kW/394 hp and is distributed between the
front and rear wheels as required by the intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel drive. The brand’s hallmark combination of energy efficiency
and sportiness also characterises the new Touring models, whose
plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an
electric drive system also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic
transmission. Together they generate a system output of up to 215
kW/292 hp in the XtraBoost mode when load requirements are
particularly high.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption:
New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid
technology in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series.
With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid
technology in additional models, BMW continues to consistently reduce
fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. This is
linked to the introduction of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder
diesel engines. As of autumn 2020, four mid-size models of the BMW 3
Series and three luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series will offer
noticeably more dynamic performance and increased efficiency.

This twofold and BMW typical progress is achieved through further
advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and additionally with the aid
of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional
battery. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating
is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously
provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the
electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its
efficiency. The power required for this is generated by intensive
recuperation in braking and thrust phases and stored in a 48-volt
battery, which also supplies the vehicle’s electrical system.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used in four further BMW 3
Series models from November 2020. In the new BMW 330d Sedan (combined
fuel consumption: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km*; combined CO2
emissions: 125 – 116 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Sedan
(combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.7 l/100 km*; combined
CO2 emissions: 132 – 123 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d
Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.5 l/100 km*; combined
CO2 emissions: 128 – 119 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive
Touring (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 4.8 l/100 km*; combined
CO2 emissions: 136 – 127 g/km), it supports the new inline
6-cylinder diesel engine, which already provides additional driving
pleasure with its maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210
kW/286 hp. Thanks to a two-stage turbocharging system and an advanced
common rail injection system whose piezo injectors now inject the fuel
with up to ten injections per working cycle and a maximum pressure of
2 700 bar into the combustion chambers, engine response and efficiency
of the 3.0 litre engine are optimised. The new diesel engine generates
its maximum torque, which has been increased by 30 to 650 Nm, between
1 500 and 2 500 rpm. The increased power of the combustion engine and
the additional electrical power noticeably improve the car’s sprint
capacity. For example, the new BMW 330d Sedan improves its
acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds to now 5.3 seconds.

In the BMW 8 Series, 48-volt mild hybrid technology is combined with
an equally new and even more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine. The BMW
840d xDrive Coupé models (fuel consumption combined:
5.8 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions:
154 - 146 g/km), BMW 840d xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption
combined: 6.0 – 5.7 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions:
159 – 151 g/km) and BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel
consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions:
155 - 148 g/km) will be powered by a 250 kW/340 hp inline 6-cylinder
engine in the future. The 15 kW/20 hp increase in top-level output
also results from further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It
now includes a multi-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry
for the high-pressure and low-pressure stages. The maximum torque of
700 Nm is generated alreadybetween 1 750 and 2 250 rpm. In the luxury
sports car model range, the new drive technology enables the BMW 840d
xDrive Coupé, for example, to improve its acceleration figure from a
standing start to 100 km/h by 0.1 seconds to 4.8 seconds. The
optimised performance characteristics of the diesel engine are
accompanied by precisely adapted fine tuning of the chassis and its
control systems.

The new diesel engines for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 8 Series also
represent the latest state of the art with regard to emissions. They
feature exhaust gas treatment technology, whose engine-proximate
components consist of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an
SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. In order to optimally
reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, a second metering unit is
additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-proximate SCR system.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Additional engines and
new optional extras.
New engines will be
available from November 2020 for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series
Gran Coupé. The new BMW 116i (combined fuel consumption:
5.8 – 5.4 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 133 – 124
g/km) is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 80
kW/109 hp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm. It is equipped as standard
with a manual 6-speed transmission and accelerates from zero to 100
km/h in 10.6 seconds. A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double
clutch is optionally available. In addition, the model range will be
expanded to include the new BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined:
5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions:
134 – 126 g/km). Its 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum
output of 131 kW/178 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm and is combined
as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch.
The new BMW 120i accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outstanding economy is the hallmark of the new entry-level diesel
engine for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The 3-cylinder diesel engine
of the new BMW 216d Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined:
4.1 – 3.8 l/100 km*; combined CO2 emissions: 108 – 99 g/km)
provides a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp and a maximum torque of 270
Nm. It transmits its power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with
double clutch as standard and enables acceleration from zero to 100
km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The range of optional equipment for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2
Series Gran Coupé is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line
lights. With the black inserts at the upper edge of the headlamps they
make the front view even more powerfully expressive.

Urban Cruise Control: Increased comfort and optimised safety
when driving in urban traffic.
The
increased level of comfort and safety achieved through combined speed
and distance control will also be available in numerous current BMW
models when driving in city traffic from autumn 2020 onwards. In
conjunction with the optional Driving Assistant Professional, the
Urban Cruise Control function is available in the BMW 3 Series and BMW
5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 8 Series and the BMW
X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW M5, BMW M8, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M model
series. It extends the range of functions of the Active Cruise Control
with Stop & Go function by a traffic light recognition function.
In addition to vehicles and traffic signs ahead, traffic lights
registered by the stereo camera are also taken into account.

In the case of traffic light signals that are clearly related to the
lane you are travelling, these are automatically registered by the
speed and distance control system. If the traffic light is red, the
system decelerates the vehicle to a standstill. A green light signals
the continuation of the journey. In a more complex intersection
situation where, for example, different light signals apply to
different lanes, a traffic light symbol is displayed in the instrument
cluster. The driver can then confirm the light signal shown there and
continue to use the automatic speed and distance control or control
the speed himself. For additional comfort in city traffic there is a
drive reminder function. While stationary at a traffic light, the
current traffic light phase is displayed in the instrument cluster; at
the beginning of the green phase, the driver also receives a signal to
start driving.

The Urban Cruise Control function can also be integrated into the car
at a later date by means of a Remote Software Upgrade. With the
exception of the BMW 8 Series models, this option is available for
vehicles of all the above-mentioned series produced from July 2020
onwards and which are equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional.

New digital services for more driving pleasure: BMW News, BMW
Intelligent Personal Assistant with new functions, personal profile
picture and simple log-in.
The latest
generation of the display and control system makes it possible to use
new digital services in numerous current BMW models. The BMW Operating
System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW
Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows the driver
to customise what is displayed to a very high degree. From November
2020, audio content will also be tailored to the driver’s wishes and
needs with BMW News. Based on the driver’s individual interests,
current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast
in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is one of the particularly
innovative services that features in current models with BMW Operating
System 7. The digital companion, which enables intuitive operation of
numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”), is
constantly gaining new capabilities. From autumn 2020, the operating
modes MAX eDrive and AUTO eDrive or ELECTRIC and HYBRID can also be
activated in the appropriately equipped plug-in hybrid models by means
of a naturally spoken instruction.

Optimised options for creating a driver profile allow further
customisation opportunities. From November 2020, the driver can no
longer only login by entering the BMW ID manually, but also via the My
BMW App as well, making the process very convenient. A QR code
generated for this purpose can be displayed on the Control Display,
which can be scanned using a smartphone. The personal driver profile
data can then be transferred to the vehicle. Also new: The driver can
add a photo of his choice to his individual profile.

BMW X1 and BMW X2: New headlamp variants and BMW Individual
High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features.
Adaptive LED headlights will be available for
the compact BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupé from November 2020. They
optimise visibility when driving at night, among other things by means
of a high beam matrix function. This feature is able to increase the
range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on
other road users. To achieve this, the high beam is divided into
several LED segments that can be activated and deactivated
independently of each other to adapt how the road is illuminated to
the respective traffic situation.

In addition, the striking BMW Individual Shadow Line lights are
available as a new option for the BMW X2 and the BMW X1. The sporty
appearance of the BMW X2 can be further enhanced by the BMW Individual
High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features. In addition to the
high-gloss black side window surrounds, this option includes a black
frame for the BMW kidney grille and tailpipe trims in chrome black.

New paint finishes allow for expressive individualisation.
New additions to the range of paint finishes
for numerous models will be introduced in autumn 2020 allowing for
even greater levels of individualisation. The new San Remo Green
metallic paint finish will also be available for the new BMW 4 Series
Coupé in future. For the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, the colours Dravit
Grey metallic and Sparkling Brown metallic have been added to the
range. In addition, the BMW Individual special paintwork finishes
Grigio Telesto metallic, Urban Green metallic, Frozen Black metallic,
Petrol Mica metallic, Ruby Red metallic, Avus Blue metallic and
British Racing Green metallic are also available for the large BMW X models.

For the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined
power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions:
0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined
power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO2
emissions: 0 g/km) new paint finishes will also be available from
November 2020. The purely electrically driven models will be available
with paint finishes in Cashmere Silver with accents in BMW i Blue and
Galvanic Gold with accents in Frozen Grey metallic and Fluid Black
with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.

Munich. BMW is making further advances in its push to
boost the driving pleasure and efficiency of its current model range
with the introduction of state-of-the-art mild-hybrid technology in
autumn 2019. Fitting a 48V starter-generator in the BMW 5 Series for
the first time has the additional benefit of increasing power output
and reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Meanwhile, the
BMW 330e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 –
176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined:
15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 43 –
37 g/km), BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.8 –
1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption
combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined:
41 – 36 g/km) and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined:
2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption
combined: 15.4 – 14.1 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined:
49 – 46 g/km) plug-in hybrid models will offer even greater
versatility and everyday practicality from November 2019 when a
trailer coupling joins the options list.

New optional extras designed to further enhance sporting prowess and
driving comfort will also be made available for numerous other models
from autumn 2019. Some of the most tempting additions to the options
lists include the M Performance package for the BMW M135i xDrive (fuel
consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.8 l/100 km [39.8 – 41.5 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 162 – 155 g/km), BMW Laserlight for
the BMW 5 Series and the M Carbon roof for the new BMW 8 Series Gran
Coupe. Finally, new exterior and interior options open up a wealth of
possibilities for individualising the new BMW X5, new BMW X6 and new
BMW X7.

BMW 5 Series: mild-hybrid technology for extra sprinting power
and efficiency.

In autumn 2019, BMW will present another element in its powertrain
electrification strategy to accompany the ongoing expansion of its
plug-in hybrid line-up. Mild-hybrid technology will make its debut in
the BMW 5 Series, where it will help to both lighten the combustion
engine’s workload and boost its power, meaning not just superior
efficiency but sharper performance. Fitting an extremely powerful 48V
starter-generator and a second battery significantly enhances the
functionality of Brake Energy Regeneration by enabling the energy
recuperated when braking or on the overrun to be harnessed not just
for powering electrical vehicle functions, but for generating
additional drive power. For this, the 48V starter-generator acts likes
an electric drive unit that assists the engine, allowing the latter to
operate within an efficiency-optimised load range as frequently as
possible. An electric overboost function, meanwhile, injects an extra
dose of dynamism when accelerating under full throttle.

The 48V starter-generator has the additional benefit of allowing the
engine to be switched off with remarkably little vibration and
restarted more smoothly when using the Auto Start Stop function. This
also makes it possible to completely shut off the engine in coasting
mode, rather than just disconnecting it from the drivetrain. As of
November 2019, mild-hybrid technology will be fitted as standard on
the BMW 520d Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 4.3 l/100 km;
CO2 emissions combined: 108 –112 g/km), BMW 520d xDrive
Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 4.5 – 4.7 l/100 km; CO2
emissions combined: 117 – 123 g/km), BMW 520d Touring (fuel
consumption combined: 4.3 – 4.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions
combined: 114 – 118 g/km) and BMW 520d xDrive Touring (fuel
consumption combined: 4.7 – 4.9 l/100 km; CO2 emissions
combined: 124 – 128 g/km). The fuel consumption figures of the 140
kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel engine that powers this quartet of
models will be cut by up to 0.3 litres per 100 kilometres as a result.

The enhancements to the BMW 5 Series range also include the
introduction of BMW Laserlight on further model variants. This
lighting technology – which increases high-beam range to a maximum
650 metres – will be added to the wealth of innovations aboard both
the BMW M550d xDrive Sedan and BMW M550d xDrive Touring from November 2019.

BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid models now also
available with a trailer coupling.

The hallmark sporting flair of BMW cars, outstanding efficiency and
the option of driving with zero local emissions highlight the
progressive character of the plug-in hybrid BMW 3 Series and 5 Series
models. The BMW 330e Sedan, BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan
can also be ordered with almost the complete range of optional extras
available for the conventionally powered model variants, allowing
driving pleasure and comfort to be tailored to individual
requirements. A trailer coupling with an electrically pivoting hitch
ball will be added to the list of options in November 2019, further
enhancing the plug-in hybrid models’ practical value in everyday
driving. These three models will have a maximum trailer load of 750 kilograms.

BMW 1 Series: M Performance package for the BMW M135i xDrive.

Model-specific design features showcase the performance capabilities
of the new BMW M135i xDrive even in its standard guise. But now
customers will be able to lend the 225 kW/306 hp range-topper’s
standout sporting credentials even greater visual impact by opting for
the new M Performance package. Available from November 2019, its
special 18‑inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and the
deletion of the storage package reduce vehicle weight by around ten
kilograms. This results in a 0.1-second improvement in the car’s 0 to
100 km/h (62 mph) time, to 4.7 seconds. Added to which, the new M
Performance package for the BMW 135i xDrive brings exterior mirror
caps and exhaust tailpipes in a Black painted finish and a mesh-design
BMW kidney grille in High-gloss Black with a surround painted in the
same colour.

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe: M Carbon roof shaves off extra weight.

The new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe brings genuine
sports car feel to the occupants of its four full-size seats. The
M Carbon exterior package available since launch already accents the
car’s dynamic verve with some precise touches. And from November 2019,
the choice of optional extras for the four-door luxury sports car will
expand to include an M Carbon roof, which will be available as an
individual item for the BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe and in conjunction
with the M Sport package for the other model variants. As well as
creating a look clearly inspired by racing cars, the M Carbon roof
brings about a further reduction in weight. Interior trim strips in
Carbon Fibre can also be ordered as an optional extra for the
BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe for the first time.

BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7: new customisation options.

The appearance, interior ambience and comfort levels of the BMW X5,
BMW X6 and BMW X7 can now be attuned even more precisely to personal
preferences thanks to a number of new equipment options.
M multifunction front seats are just one of the optional features due
to become available for the executive- and luxury-class BMW X models
from December 2019. Quite apart from their outstanding comfort, the
seats also offer a wide range of adjustment options, all operated
electrically. They can also be upgraded by the addition of massage and
ventilation functions for even greater comfort on long journeys.

Customers seeking the ultimate in exclusivity can look forward to the
BMW Individual Composition, which will be offered for the new BMW X5,
new BMW X6 and new BMW X7 from December 2019. This equipment package
comprises a selection of highly exclusive options for the exterior and
interior boasting exceptional material quality and workmanship.
22-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels and a BMW Individual paint
finish ensure the BMW X models cut a stylish figure. Inside, BMW
Individual Merino full leather trim, a BMW Individual headliner in
Alcantara and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish
Black create a sense of high luxury.

The options list for the new BMW X6 also now includes a load
compartment package comprising sliding rails, non-slip rails and
retaining nets. Interior trim strips in Ash Grain Brown or Fineline
Stripe and Vernasca design-perforated leather trim in Ivory White add
to the choice of customisation options for the cabin. Paint finishes
in Sapphire Black metallic and Sophisto Grey brilliant effect metallic
and the BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and
Ametrine metallic have now been added to the colour palette for
customers wishing to give the Sports Activity Coupe’s exterior a
particularly striking look. An M Carbon rear spoiler and M Carbon
mirror caps can also be specified to bring the car’s sporting genes
even further to the fore.

The Adaptive M suspension Professional optionally available for the
new BMW X5 gives it far greater poise in dynamic driving situations.
This optional extra, comprising active roll stabilisation, the M Sport
differential and Integral Active Steering, will also be available for
the BMW X5 xDrive40i and BMW X5 xDrive30d from December 2019. The
functionality of the Driving Assistant Professional will be enhanced
in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 with the addition of the new Lane
Change Assistant, which aids the driver with automated steering
movements during overtaking manoeuvres.

Driving Assistant Professional brings real-time 3D
visualisation of the surrounding area to the instrument cluster.

The Driving Assistant Professional offers drivers an extremely wide
range of assistance in monotonous and complex traffic situations. Its
range of functions now includes 3D visualisation of the area around
the car, which has been available in all models equipped with BMW Live
Cockpit Professional since July 2019. The system uses the data
supplied by the driver assistance systems’ cameras and sensors to
generate a real-time three-dimensional graphic image of the vehicle’s
surroundings. The image appears in the centre of the instrument
cluster and helps to give the driver a clearer overview of what is
happening on the road, especially when driving on multi-lane highways.
This means the driver can also register the position of other road
users driving in front of or alongside them when they glance down at
the speedometer or rev counter.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with separate iDrive menu
and individual configurability.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant enjoys additional
functionality gains. Since July 2019 users have been able to access
all the relevant settings via a separate menu in the BMW Operating
System 7.0. This means the driver can adjust the functioning of the
BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant according to the driving situation
at hand. For example, the intelligent and proactive functions can be
switched on and off, and notifications and phone calls can be
anonymised if passengers are on board.

Contact presse: Jeroen Lissens
Tél: +32-3-890-9708
Adresse e-mail: jeroen.lissens@bmw.be

Press Release,X5,X6,1 Series,5 Door,5 Series,Gran Coupé,G07,X7,G30,330e,G05,8 Series,G20,530e,G06,G16,F40,Product,BMW

Munich. Premium automobile manufacturer BMW is
increasing the efficiency, appeal and variety of its electrified
models for the upper mid-range segment. The latest battery cell
technology contributes to increasing the electric range of the BMW
530e Sedan plug-in hybrid model to between 61 and 66 kilometres*. In
addition, the latest-generation BMW eDrive technology has reduced
the combined fuel consumption and CO2emissions levels by
more than 20 percent from 1.8 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres* as
well as by 41 to 36 grams per kilometre*. The combined power
consumption of the BMW 530e Sedan is now 14.5 to 13.6 kWh per 100
kilometres*. Parallel to the market launch of the BMW 530e Sedan,
the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan is also available immediately (fuel
consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km; combined power
consumption: 15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km; combined
CO2 emissions: 49 – 46 g/km), which combines the advanced
plug-in hybrid system with intelligent all-wheel drive.

Both plug-in hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series Sedan profit from
the latest advances in the field of battery cell technology for
electrified models of the BMW Group. The new lithium-ion
high-voltage battery of the BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan
has a gross energy content increased from 9.2 to 12.0 kWh with no
increase in physical size. Thanks to this increased capacity, the
main share of day-to-day driving can be conducted electrically
thereby reducing local emissions to zero. The high-voltage battery
is housed space-savingly under the rear seat so that luggage
compartment volume compared to the conventionally driven versions of
the BMW 5 Series Sedan is limited only to a minimal degree. The
storage volume in the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan
is 410 litres.

The new high-voltage battery can be charged at conventional
household sockets using the standard-equipment charging cable. The
battery can be charged in less than six hours in this way. At a BMW
i Wallbox the respective charging operation takes 3:35 hours. The
charging socket is located under a separate flap on the front left
side wall of the car.

The intelligently controlled interaction between combustion engine
and electric motor in the BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive
Sedan achieves an outstanding level of efficiency and provides a
distinctive quality of hallmark BMW driving pleasure. The plug-in
hybrid system of both models consists of a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder
petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology generating an
output of 135 kW/184 hp as well as an 83 kW/113 hp electric motor,
which is integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
Together they develop a system output of 185 kW/252 hp along with a
maximum system torque of 420 Nm. The BMW 530e Sedan accelerates from
0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The BMW 530e xDrive Sedan completes
the standard sprint in 6.2 seconds. The top speed of both models is 235 km/h.

Intelligent energy management enables optimally efficient operation
of the hybrid system. In order to further improve efficiency and
driving pleasure, navigation data are also used for determining the
ideal operation mode pro-actively. The driver can also influence
the drive mode with the eDrive button. In the AUTO eDRIVE standard
setting, purely electric driving is possible up to a speed of 110
km/h. After switching to the MAX eDRIVE mode, the BMW 530e Sedan and
the BMW 530e xDrive Sedan can even travel at speeds of up to 140
km/h with zero local emissions. An acoustic pedestrian protection
function is part of the hybrid-specific standard equipment. When
driving electrically with speeds of up to 30 km/h, an unmistakeable
sound, designed specifically for electrified BMW models, is
generated to alert other road users without impairing the acoustic
comfort of the vehicle occupants.

The latest-generation battery cell technology optimises both the
electric range as well as the overall efficiency of the plug-in
hybrid system. In the BMW 530e Sedan, local zero-emission driving is
now possible for 61 to 66 kilometres*. The electric range of the BMW
530e xDrive Sedan is 55 to 58 kilometres*. A combined fuel
consumption of 1.8 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres* (BMW 530e
xDrive Sedan: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km*), CO2 emissions of 41
to 36 g/km* (49 – 46 g/km*) and power consumption figures of 14.5 to
13.6 kWh per100 kilometres* (15.4 – 15.0 kWh/100 km*) characterise
the high efficiency of the electrified drive. Both hybrid variants
of the BMW 5 Series Sedan can meet the conditions for reduced
company car taxation in Germany (depending on the equipment level)
due to their low CO2 emission levels and their large
electric range. Only half the gross list price is used as a basis
when calculating the monetary benefit from the private use of the
company car.

The BMW 530e Sedan and the BMW 530e xDrive feature an auxiliary air
conditioning system. The interior can be pre-conditioned remotely
via BMW Connected using a smartphone. In addition, almost the entire
range of 5 Series Sedan optional equipment is available for both
plug-in hybrid models. The offer ranges from Adaptive Suspension and
light alloy wheels in the sizes 17 to 20 inches to especially
stylish and high-quality optional equipment by BMW Individual and
the driver assistance systems Driving Assistant Plus and Parking
Assistant Plus. BMW Live Cockpit ConnectedDrive with its fully
digital display design is also available as special equipment. It
includes a high-resolution instrument cluster with diagonal screen
dimensions of 12.3 inches behind the steering wheel and a 10.25 inch
control display. The scope of customisable displays in the BMW 530e
Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan further include hybrid-specific
depictions, which show electric range, charging status, the location
of public charging stations as well as other information.

BMW plug-in hybrid models offer an array of benefits in
everyday use.

BMW’s plug-in hybrid drive systems already offer users a host of
additional benefits over traditional solutions:

Money-saving: Electric driving in urban areas is cheaper than
using petrol or diesel if the plug-in hybrid vehicle is charged at
home or at the workplace at low cost.

Interior always at the right temperature, even before you get
in: auxiliary heating and auxiliary air conditioning are fitted as standard.

Braking is winning: The battery is charged under braking. In
conventional vehicles, braking generates only heat and brake dust.

The best of both worlds: Plug-in hybrids provide electric
driving pleasure in urban areas and classical BMW driving pleasure
over longer distances.

Smoothing the way into the future: Because a plug-in hybrid can
run emission-free, it is eligible to enter many low-emission
zones, enjoys extra parking privileges and saves on toll charges.

Better quality of life in cities: By driving on electric power,
users can actively contribute to reducing emissions and traffic
noise in cities.

New BMW 530e Sedan has a smaller overall CO2 footprint.

The “real” environmental impact of plug-in hybrid vehicles has been
questioned on occasion, especially in markets where the proportion
of green energy used by the public energy grid remains small. The
BMW Group conducted a full-cycle CO2 certification for
the new BMW 530e Sedan – from raw material procurement, the supply
chain, production and the use phase, all the way to recycling.

This revealed the CO2 footprint of the new BMW 530e
Sedan to be 23 per cent smaller than that of the new BMW 530i Sedan
when running on average European power in the use phase. When
charging the car with green energy, its CO2 footprint is
reduced by as much as 47 percent.

automobile (source : rapport IHS Markit New Registrations 2018 du
