PwC Belgium ajoute 300 MINI Aceman et 423 BMW iX1 eDrive20 à sa flotte, rendant ainsi la conduite électrique accessible à un plus grand nombre d’ employés. « Notre ambition de devenir neutres en CO ₂ d'ici 2030 guide chacune de nos décisions », déclare Patrick Boone, Président Directeur Général de PwC Belgium. « L'électrification de notre flotte est une étape importante dans la réduction des émissions, et nous nous engageons à rendre cette transition aussi transparente que possible pour nos employés ».

Pour accompagner cette évolution, la firme renforce également son réseau de recharge : « la recharge à domicile reste un défi, en particulier pour les jeunes collègues. C'est pourquoi nous installons 270 nouvelles bornes de recharge au bureau, supprimant ainsi un obstacle majeur à la conduite électrique et garantissant des trajets domicile-travail sûrs, durables et pratiques», explique Patrick Boone, président de PwC Belgium. Cette installation porte le total à 475 bornes dans tous les bureaux de PwC Belgium, facilitant la recharge au travail. Cette initiative s'inscrit dans la stratégie globale de développement durable de PwC Belgium, qui comprend également des investissements dans l'efficacité énergétique des bâtiments et l’utilisation d’énergies renouvelables.

Le partenariat solide avec le BMW Group Belux joue un rôle crucial dans cette démarche. BMW et PwC Belgium partagent une vision commune de mobilité durable. La livraison de véhicules électriques premium permet aux employés de se déplacer de manière responsable, tant au bureau que chez les clients. « En passant à une flotte entièrement électrique en 2028, nous affirmons notre engagement environnemental et réduisons activement notre empreinte carbone. Grâce à cette collaboration, nous offrons à nos employés des voitures de fonction sûres et durables pour leurs déplacements professionnels ».

En outre, un renouvellement majeur de la flotte est en cours, avec le remplacement de 499 véhicules diesel et hybrides par des modèles entièrement électriques. Cela porte la composition totale de la flotte de PwC Belgium à 90 % de véhicules électriques et/ou hybrides, dont 64 % de véhicules entièrement électriques.  Cette décision stratégique souligne l'engagement de PwC Belgium en faveur du développement durable et de la réalisation de l'objectif zéro émission nette de l'entreprise d'ici 2028.

En plus des voitures de fonction, les employés peuvent opter pour le budget mobilité légal depuis 2023, qui offre un large éventail de possibilités telles que la location de vélos, les transports publics et le remboursement des frais de prêt hypothécaire. Environ 23 % des employés de PwC Belgium choisissent de conduire une voiture plus petite, tandis que 12 % renoncent complètement à la voiture de fonction, ce qui reflète une préférence croissante pour les choix de mobilité durable.

Le pionnier du plaisir de conduire du segment des compactes haut de gamme entre dans sa quatrième génération de modèles. Avec un design dynamique, une gamme de motorisations entièrement revue et une technologie de châssis largement améliorée, la nouvelle BMW Série 1 a davantage affiné son versant sportif. Des moteurs très efficaces dotés d’une technologie hybride légère 48 volts (pour les motorisations 120 et 120d) et d’un processus de production conçu pour préserver les ressources et recycler les matériaux, tout en optimisant la durabilité tout au long du cycle de vie du produit. Son caractère progressiste se reflète également dans un habitacle repensé, une gamme étendue de systèmes de conduite et de stationnement automatisés, la nouvelle BMW iDrive avec QuickSelect et des services numériques innovants basés sur le BMW Operating System 9.

La présentation de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 marque le début d’un nouveau chapitre dans la success story du modèle présenté pour la première fois il y a 20 ans déjà. La nouvelle génération de modèles sera également produite à l’usine de BMW Group à Leipzig. Son lancement sur le marché est prévu en octobre 2024. La région de vente la plus importante est le marché intérieur allemand. Outre les autres pays européens, le Japon est l’un des cinq principaux marchés pour la nouvelle BMW Série 1.

Design extérieur : Face avant dynamique et proportions caractéristiques de BMW.

L’aura sportive de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 est soulignée par des proportions typiques de BMW : un long capot, une cellule passagère bien reculée, une ligne de toit dynamique et un arrière puissant. Les dimensions du modèle cinq portes n’ont que très peu changé par rapport à son prédécesseur. La longueur extérieure de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 a augmenté de 42 millimètres pour atteindre 4361 millimètres, tandis que l’empattement est de 2670 millimètres. La largeur du véhicule est de 1800 millimètres, tandis que la hauteur a augmenté de 25 millimètres pour atteindre 1459 millimètres.

Avec une face avant remarquablement plate, nettement plus basse que celle de son prédécesseur, la nouvelle BMW Série 1 affiche plus que jamais son caractère sportif. La large calandre BMW inclinée vers l’avant présente une structure innovante de barres verticales et diagonales. Les phares à LED de série intègrent des éléments verticaux saisissants pour les feux de jour et les clignotants. Des phares à LED adaptatifs avec feux de route matriciels anti-éblouissement, fonction d’éclairage de virage et accents bleus sont disponibles en option.

La vue latérale de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 se caractérise par la forme dynamique du coin et le graphisme des vitres planes qui s’affinent vers l’arrière. La BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line de série comprend un élément graphique avec le chiffre « 1 » inscrit au niveau du pli de Hofmeister. Un long becquet de toit et des déflecteurs d’air latéraux soulignent la silhouette étirée. Des réflecteurs verticaux et un diffuseur noir renforcent l’aspect puissant de la jupe arrière. Les feux arrière saisissants en deux parties se prolongent dans les sections latérales.

La carrosserie de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 se décline en deux finitions unies et sept finitions métallisées. Quatre teintes BMW Individual et une grande variété de teintes spéciales BMW Individual sont également disponibles. La nouvelle BMW Série 1 est le premier modèle de la gamme de la marque à être disponible avec une peinture de toit contrastée en option. La finition noire haute brillance renforce l’aspect sportif de la voiture.

Automobile BMW M avec caractère de performance individuel.

Le pack M Sport en option et les équipements en option M Sport Design disponibles dès le lancement commercial en Europe rendent la nouvelle BMW Série 1 encore plus dynamique. Son design spécifique M comprend de larges prises d’air sur la jupe avant, des jupes latérales prononcées et un élément diffuseur tridimensionnel dans la jupe arrière.

Au sommet de la gamme, on trouve la BMW M135 xDrive (consommation en cycle mixte : 8,1 à 7,6 l/100 km (62 miles) ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 184 - 173 g/km selon WLTP ; classes de CO₂ : G - F) avec des caractéristiques de performance significativement améliorées. Le modèle BMW M est propulsé par un moteur quatre cylindres de 221 kW/300 ch, doté d’un châssis M adaptatif avec direction sport et transmission intégrale intelligente de série, et accélère de zéro à 100 km/h (62 mph) en 4,9 secondes. À l’extérieur, la calandre M avec barres horizontales, les coques de rétroviseurs extérieurs M et les quatre sorties d’échappement le rendent immédiatement reconnaissable comme un modèle haut de gamme. Un pack M Technology comprenant des composants de suspension spécifiques, des mesures de rigidité et de légèreté, un système de freinage M Compound et des jantes en alliage léger forgé de 19 pouces est disponible exclusivement pour la BMW M135 xDrive. Un pack M Sport Pro et des pièces BMW M Performance spécifiques au modèle sont également disponibles pour toutes les variantes de la nouvelle BMW Série 1.

Ambiance sportive haut de gamme, intérieur sans cuir.

L’intérieur de la nouvelle BMW Série 1, entièrement dépourvu de cuir de série, offre une ambiance moderne haut de gamme avec des accents sportifs et un espace généreux pouvant accueillir jusqu’à cinq occupants. Les nouveaux sièges offrent un niveau de confort élevé pour les longs trajets. Des sièges sport en version Econeer avec housses et sellerie en polyester recyclé et des sièges sport M sont disponibles en option. Des surfaces de siège perforées sont également disponibles dans la version Veganza avec des propriétés semblables au cuir. L’équipement Veganza/Alcantara fait partie du pack M Sport et de série de la BMW M135 xDrive.

Des sièges chauffants et une large gamme de réglages électriques, dont la mémoire côté conducteur, sont disponibles en option sur toutes les versions de sièges. Le soutien lombaire peut être ajouté aux sièges sport et aux sièges sport M. Une fonction massage est également disponible en option pour les sièges sport. Un airbag conducteur et passager avant est désormais monté de série pour améliorer davantage la protection des occupants. En rabattant les dossiers des sièges arrière, l’espace de rangement sous le hayon peut passer de 380 litres à1200 litres (BMW 120, BMW 120d : 300 - 1135 litres).

Les surfaces et garnitures de haute qualité, le sélecteur de vitesses redessiné et le BMW Curved Display soulignent l’ambiance haut de gamme et progressive de l’habitacle. Le système d’affichage entièrement numérique comprend un écran d'information de 10,25 pouces et un écran de contrôle de 10,7 pouces. Le nombre de boutons et de commandes dans le poste de conduite a été considérablement réduit grâce à l’utilisation systématique de la technologie numérique. La climatisation de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 est également commandée numériquement. En alternative au volant sport standard, un volant M en cuir est également disponible. Il fait partie du pack M Sport et est équipé de palettes de changement de vitesse pour les changements de vitesse manuels.

Nouvelle génération de moteurs, boîte de vitesses Steptronic à 7 rapports avec double embrayage de série.

Comme le moteur BMW M135 xDrive, tous les autres moteurs disponibles pour la nouvelle BMW Série 1 font partie de la dernière génération de moteurs modulaires de BMW Group. Le moteur essence trois cylindres de la nouvelle BMW 120 (consommation en cycle mixte : 6,0 à 5,3 l/100 km (62 miles) ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 135 - 121 g/km selon WLTP ; classes de CO₂ : D) et le moteur diesel quatre cylindres de la nouvelle BMW 120d (consommation en cycle mixte : 4,8 à 4,3 l/100 km (62 miles) ; émissions de CO₂ en cycle mixte : 125 - 112 g/km selon WLTP ; classes de CO₂ : D - C) sont associés à la technologie hybride légère 48 volts, ce qui améliore à la fois leur efficacité et leur puissance spontanée. Toutes les unités d’entraînement transmettent leur puissance à une boîte de vitesses Steptronic à 7 rapports avec double embrayage de série.

Avec une puissance maximale de 125 kW/170 ch, le système d’entraînement de la nouvelle BMW 120 accélère de 0 à 100 km/h (62 mph) en 7,8 secondes. La nouvelle BMW 120d développe une puissance de 120 kW/163 ch et accélère de 0 à 100 km/h (62 mph) en 7,9 secondes. La BMW 118d, également propulsée par un moteur diesel quatre cylindres (consommation en cycle mixte : 5,2 - 4,6 l/100 km (62 miles) ;
Émissions de CO₂, cycle mixte : 136 - 122 g/km selon WLTP ; classes de CO₂ : E - D) développe 110 kW/150 ch et une accélération de 8,3 secondes.

Rigidité de la carrosserie améliorée et développement ultérieur du châssis.

L’agilité, la précision de la direction et la dynamique des virages de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 bénéficient de la rigidité accrue de la structure de la carrosserie et de l’assemblage du châssis. La technologie avancée du châssis comprend une cinématique optimisée, des supports de barre antiroulis hautement préchargés et une nouvelle technologie d’amortisseurs. La chasse des roues avant a été augmentée de 20 %, garantissant une stabilité directionnelle particulièrement stable et un retour de direction optimisé.

Outre la limitation du patinage des roues à commande directe, la nouvelle BMW Série 1 est également équipée d’un système de freinage intégré et de jantes en alliage léger de 17 pouces (BMW M135 xDrive : 18 pouces) de série. Le pack M Sport en option comprend le châssis M adaptatif, qui abaisse le véhicule jusqu’à 8 millimètres, une direction sport et des jantes en alliage léger de 18 pouces. Des jantes en alliage léger de 19 pouces et un système de freinage M sport sont également disponibles en option.

Systèmes de conduite et de stationnement automatisés de pointe.

La nouvelle BMW Série 1 offre une gamme considérablement étendue de systèmes de conduite et de stationnement automatisés de série ou en option. Les fonctionnalités de série incluent l’assistant de conduite avec alerte de collision avant, l’alerte de franchissement de ligne, l’alerte de sortie de voie et la reconnaissance des panneaux de signalisation, ainsi que l’assistant de stationnement avec assistant de recul.

Les points forts de la gamme en option comprennent l’assistant de direction et de maintien dans la voie, l’assistant de limitation de vitesse automatique et le guidage routier lors de l’utilisation du régulateur de vitesse actif avec fonction Stop & Go. Le Parking Assistant Professional est également disponible pour la nouvelle BMW 120 et la nouvelle BMW 120d, permettant de contrôler le stationnement et les manœuvres par smartphone.

Équipement de série élargi, personnalisation ciblée.

Outre les systèmes d’assistance de haute qualité, la gamme considérablement élargie d’équipements de série de la nouvelle BMW Série 1 comprend également la climatisation automatique, le système d’alarme, les rétroviseurs extérieurs rabattables électriquement et le BMW Live Cockpit Plus comprenant le système de navigation basé sur le cloud BMW Maps. De nouveaux packs d’équipements en option permettent une personnalisation ciblée.

Le pack Innovation comprend le BMW Live Cockpit Professional avec affichage tête haute BMW et vue augmentée sur l’écran de contrôle, ainsi que le Parking Assistant Plus. Le pack Premium comprend l’option téléphone avec recharge sans fil, l’accès confort, la projection du logo depuis les rétroviseurs extérieurs, le rétroviseur intérieur à fonction anti-éblouissement automatique et les phares adaptatifs à LED. La gamme d’équipements en option comprend également la climatisation automatique à deux zones, un toit panoramique en verre et un système audio Harman Kardon.

Le nouveau BMW Operating System 9, BMW iDrive avec QuickSelect et BMW Digital Premium.

La nouvelle BMW Série 1 est équipée de la dernière version de BMW iDrive avec QuickSelect pour une utilisation intuitive et pratique des fonctions du véhicule. Le nouvel écran d’accueil affiche des icônes de fonction disposées verticalement au même niveau. « QuickSelect » permet un accès direct aux fonctions sans avoir à basculer dans un sous-menu. Le nouveau BMW iDrive est systématiquement conçu pour une utilisation tactile et une commande vocale. Il est basé sur le BMW Operating System 9, qui constitue également la base d’une sélection très personnalisée de services numériques supplémentaires. Les mises à jour logicielles à distance permettent d’intégrer de nouvelles fonctions améliorées dans le véhicule à distance. Avec les mises à niveau BMW ConnectedDrive, les clients peuvent également tester gratuitement certaines fonctions pendant une période d’un mois, puis les réserver pour une durée déterminée. La nouvelle offre BMW Digital Premium peut également être réservée pour la nouvelle BMW Série 1 dans le BMW ConnectedDrive Store.

BMW Digital Premium permet d’utiliser des applications spécifiques à chaque pays, telles que le streaming musical et vidéo, les actualités ou les jeux, dans le véhicule dans le cadre d’un abonnement. L’offre inclut également l’utilisation des données pour tous les services numériques et les applications contenus dans le BMW ConnectedDrive Store. BMW Digital Premium étend également les fonctions du système de navigation BMW Maps, la sélection de My Modes et l’éclairage pour l’animation d’accueil et d’adieu. Dans certains pays, BMW Digital Premium permet également le paiement numérique des frais de stationnement et des factures de carburant du véhicule.

L’intégration du smartphone avec Apple CarPlay® et Android Auto™ est disponible de série sur la nouvelle BMW Série 1. BMW ID et My BMW App offrent un moyen pratique de personnaliser l’expérience utilisateur de la nouvelle BMW Série 1. La BMW Digital Key Plus avec technologie sans fil ultra large bande pour les smartphones compatibles avec les systèmes d’exploitation iOS ou Android et l’Apple Watch peuvent également être configurées en option via l’App My BMW.

Munich. The sales launch of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 in November 2021 marks the beginning of a new era of purely electric premium mobility. In addition to sustainable driving pleasure, the two new models also offer the latest innovations in the field of driver assistance systems and, with the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system, represent the future of intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. Parallel to this, the BMW model range will also undergo targeted further development in autumn 2021. The model range of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will be expanded by three new drive variants from November 2021. New paint finishes are available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW X2, BMW X3 and BMW X4 models. The functional scope of the My BMW App is complemented by further digital services. The BMW i brand is not only setting trends with its two new models. The pioneer of all-electric premium mobility, the BMW i3, will be offered in a limited Unique Forever Edition from November 2021. And in the BMW iX3, a predictive battery heat management system will optimise the way in which DC fast charging stations will be used in the future.

BMW 4 Series Convertible: Two additional BMW M automobiles and a further all-wheel drive model.
The combination of sporty performance and open-air pleasure in a BMW 4 Series model will be enriched even further in autumn 2021. In the new BMW M 440i Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.3 – 7.7 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 190 - 175 g/km according to WLTP), a 275 kW/374 hp inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensures particularly purist driving pleasure by transferring its power to the rear wheels. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential in the final drive also contribute to the thrilling driving dynamics as standard. This is reflected, among other things, by accerlation from 0 - 100 km/h from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

An inline 6-cylinder diesel engine and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system make the second new BMW M automobile a thrilling open-top drive. With a peak output of 250 kW/340 hp, a maximum torque of 700 Nm and 48-volt mild hybrid technology, the new BMW M440d xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.0 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 172 - 157 g/km according to WLTP) has impressive pulling power. 5.0 seconds are sufficient for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an M sports differential are also standard equipment in this model variant.

In addition, the model range for the open-top four-seater in the premium mid-size segment is expanded to include the new BMW 430i xDrive Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 8.1 – 7.3 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 183 - 166 g/km according to WLTP). With its 180 kW/245 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine, an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and the M sports differential are optionally available for this model.

BMW X1 xDrive18d and BMW X2 xDrive18d now feature 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Driving pleasure and comfort will be enhanced in autumn 2021 as the 8-speed Steptronic transmission is included in further model variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X2 as standard. The fast and efficient automatic transmission is characterised by a high level of shifting comfort and a particularly favourable internal efficiency. In future, it will also be available as standard with the 110 kW/150 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine of the BMW X1 xDrive18d models (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 142 g/km according to WLTP) and the BMW X2 xDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 6.1 – 5.4 l/100 km according to WLTP; combined CO₂ emissions: 160 - 142 g/km according to WLTP).

With the new drive combination, both models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. An optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available, operated by paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

New paint finishes for numerous model series.
New paint finishes for numerous current BMW models allow for additional customisation opportunities. The Skyscraper Grey metallic variant will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 from November 2021. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, as well as Aventurine Red metallic for the BMW X3 and the BMW X4.

My BMW App with extended range of functions.
Planning travel routes and transferring them to the car, receiving information about the car’ status and live images from its surroundings, arranging service appointments or receiving news from the brand - the My BMW app makes all this possible on the customer's smartphone. It serves as a universal interface for communication between car and customer, the BMW brand and the BMW dealer. The range of functions of the My BMW App will be expanded again in autumn 2021. In future, for example, the images transmitted by the Remote 3D View service will be stored in a gallery, including information about the location and time of the shots. The status of the vehicle's air conditioning and ventilation is now also clearly displayed in the My BMW app.

In addition, the My BMW app now also provides drivers with comprehensive information on the condition of the vehicle's tyres on their smartphone. This new feature helps to minimise the risk of breakdowns and is available for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series models, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4 as well as the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. The My BMW app displays the wheel-specific values as measured by the tyre pressure system. In addition, the digital tyre diagnosis, which is unique in the competitive environment, can also transmit information about a defect or wear of the tyres via the My BMW app. In the BMW backend, the data from the tyre pressure control system is processed together with the values for temperature and wheel speeds to create a forecast of the remaining life of the tyres. As a supplement to tyre pressure control, indications of tyre damage are also registered.

Intelligent battery heat management for the BMW iX3.
To ensure the fastest and most efficient power feed at DC fast-charging stations, regardless of operating and outside temperatures, the BMW iX3 (combined power consumption: 19.0 - 18.6 L/100 km according to WLTP, 18.5 - 18.9 L/100 km according to NEDC) will be equipped with intelligent thermal management for the high-voltage battery as in the BMW i4 / BMW iX from November 2021. As soon as the active route guidance of the navigation system foresees a stopover at a High Power Charging Station, it already ensures that the battery is automatically preconditioned before arrival.

The appropriate heating or cooling ensures that the high-voltage battery is at the ideal temperature for charging at maximum power on arrival. The thermal management takes into account, among other things, the battery temperature, the remaining range, the predicted charging power and the planned scope of the charging process as part of the overall route calculation.

BMW i3 and BMW i3s in the Unique Forever Edition.
From November 2021, the BMW i3 models (combined electricity consumption: 16.3 - 15.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 13.1 L/100 km according to NEDC and BMW i3s (combined electricity consumption: 16.6 - 16.3 L/100 km according to WLTP, 14.6 - 14.0 L/100 km according to NEDC) in the Unique Forever Edition. The naming of the new special edition refers to the unique character of the world's first premium automobile designed from the outset for purely electric mobility. The BMW i3 represents a holistic understanding of sustainability not only with its drive system, but also with its particularly lightweight passenger cell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and extensive use of natural and recycled materials in its interior. Eight years after being launched on the market, it is still a globally recognised symbol of locally emission-free urban mobility.

The edition vehicles are characterised by particularly high-grade and exclusive design and equipment features. The two BMW Individual paint finishes, available for the first time for the BMW i3, ensure a stylish appearance. The Aventurine Red metallic variant is combined with an accent in Frozen Grey metallic and the Storm Bay metallic paint finish with an accent in Frozen E-Copper. The interior surfaces of the BMW grille are also finished in the respective accent colour. Other special features include the omission of the trim strip and model lettering on the luggage compartment lid and a black insert for the rear bumper. In the interior of the edition vehicles, the contents of the Suite equipment world - including the Vernasca Dark Truffle leather combination, the leather instrument panel, the fine wood surface in dark matt oak, the leather steering wheel, the Carum grey roof lining and the ambient lighting - are supplemented by specific design elements. The front headrests are embroidered with the words "Unique Forever", the door trim panels in the area of the exterior mirrors bear the inscription "One of 2,000“.

The Unique Forever Edition models are produced in a limited edition of 2,000 units at the BMW plant in Leipzig. Only electricity generated by the wind turbines on the factory premises is used.

Munich. Increased efficiency through consistent electrification, optimised emissions and innovations in the areas of driver assistance and digital services are the focus of the model revision measures for numerous BMW model series that will take effect in autumn 2020. From November 2020, all models of the premium brand will meet the requirements of the currently strictest exhaust emission standard Euro 6d. In the BMW 5 Series, the range of plug-in hybrid models has been extended by three new variants. New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines and 48-volt mild hybrid technology lower fuel consumption and emissions of selected models in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series. In addition, further engines will supplement the drive portfolio of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.

Efficiency becomes more diverse: World premiere for five plug-in hybrid models in the BMW 5 Series.
The range of BMW models with electrified drive systems will also be consistently expanded in autumn 2020. The expanded range of the following electrified models is especially attractive: BMW 545e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.3 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.3 – 15.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 53 – 49 g/km; electric range: 47 – 57 km), BMW 530e Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 – 1.8 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.1 – 15.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 46 – 42 g/km; electric range: 52 – 57 km (WLTP)) and BMW 530e xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 2.4 – 2.2 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.7 – 16.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 54 – 50 g/km; electric range: 48 – 53 km (WLTP)). The BMW 5 Series model range now already includes five plug-in hybrid variants. In the upper mid-size class, BMW offers the largest selection of models with electrified drive.

In the new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, an inline 6-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission deliver impressive driving dynamics in a particularly efficient manner. The power of the two drive units adds up to a maximum system output of 290 kW/394 hp and is distributed between the front and rear wheels as required by the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. The brand’s hallmark combination of energy efficiency and sportiness also characterises the new Touring models, whose plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric drive system also integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Together they generate a system output of up to 215 kW/292 hp in the XtraBoost mode when load requirements are particularly high.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: New inline 6-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series.
With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional models, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. This is linked to the introduction of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder diesel engines. As of autumn 2020, four mid-size models of the BMW 3 Series and three luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series will offer noticeably more dynamic performance and increased efficiency.

This twofold and BMW typical progress is achieved through further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and additionally with the aid of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. The dynamic power delivery when starting off and accelerating is enhanced by the additional power of 8 kW/11 hp spontaneously provided by the 48-volt starter generator. In other load ranges the electric drive can relieve the combustion engine and thus increase its efficiency. The power required for this is generated by intensive recuperation in braking and thrust phases and stored in a 48-volt battery, which also supplies the vehicle’s electrical system.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology will be used in four further BMW 3 Series models from November 2020. In the new BMW 330d Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.7 – 4.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 125 – 116 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 132 – 123 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.8 – 4.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 119 g/km*) and the new BMW 330d Xdrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 4.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 136 – 127 g/km), it supports the new inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, which already provides additional driving pleasure with its maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp. Thanks to a two-stage turbocharging system and an advanced common rail injection system whose piezo injectors now inject the fuel with up to ten injections per working cycle and a maximum pressure of 2 700 bar into the combustion chambers, engine response and efficiency of the 3.0 litre engine are optimised. The new diesel engine generates its maximum torque, which has been increased by 30 to 650 Nm, between 1 500 and 2 500 rpm. The increased power of the combustion engine and the additional electrical power noticeably improve the car’s sprint capacity. For example, the new BMW 330d Sedan improves its acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds to now 5.3 seconds.

In the BMW 8 Series, 48-volt mild hybrid technology is combined with an equally new and even more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine. The BMW 840d xDrive Coupé models (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 154 - 146 g/km), BMW 840d xDrive Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 6.0 – 5.7 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 159 – 151 g/km) and BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 155 - 148 g/km) will be powered by a 250 kW/340 hp inline 6-cylinder engine in the future. The 15 kW/20 hp increase in top-level output also results from further advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It now includes a multi-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for the high-pressure and low-pressure stages. The maximum torque of 700 Nm is generated alreadybetween 1 750 and 2 250 rpm. In the luxury sports car model range, the new drive technology enables the BMW 840d xDrive Coupé, for example, to improve its acceleration figure from a standing start to 100 km/h by 0.1 seconds to 4.8 seconds. The optimised performance characteristics of the diesel engine are accompanied by precisely adapted fine tuning of the chassis and its control systems.

The new diesel engines for the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 8 Series also represent the latest state of the art with regard to emissions. They feature exhaust gas treatment technology, whose engine-proximate components consist of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. In order to optimally reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, a second metering unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-proximate SCR system.

BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé: Additional engines and new optional extras.
New engines will be available from November 2020 for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The new BMW 116i (combined fuel consumption: 5.8 – 5.4 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 133 – 124 g/km) is powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 80 kW/109 hp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm. It is equipped as standard with a manual 6-speed transmission and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available. In addition, the model range will be expanded to include the new BMW 120i (fuel consumption combined: 5.8 – 5.5 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 134 – 126 g/km). Its 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum output of 131 kW/178 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm and is combined as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch. The new BMW 120i accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outstanding economy is the hallmark of the new entry-level diesel engine for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. The 3-cylinder diesel engine of the new BMW 216d Gran Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 3.8 l/100 km*; combined CO₂ emissions: 108 – 99 g/km) provides a maximum output of 85 kW/116 hp and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. It transmits its power to a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The range of optional equipment for the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is supplemented by the BMW Individual Shadow Line lights. With the black inserts at the upper edge of the headlamps they make the front view even more powerfully expressive.

Urban Cruise Control: Increased comfort and optimised safety when driving in urban traffic.
The increased level of comfort and safety achieved through combined speed and distance control will also be available in numerous current BMW models when driving in city traffic from autumn 2020 onwards. In conjunction with the optional Driving Assistant Professional, the Urban Cruise Control function is available in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 8 Series and the BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW M5, BMW M8, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M model series. It extends the range of functions of the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function by a traffic light recognition function. In addition to vehicles and traffic signs ahead, traffic lights registered by the stereo camera are also taken into account.

In the case of traffic light signals that are clearly related to the lane you are travelling, these are automatically registered by the speed and distance control system. If the traffic light is red, the system decelerates the vehicle to a standstill. A green light signals the continuation of the journey. In a more complex intersection situation where, for example, different light signals apply to different lanes, a traffic light symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster. The driver can then confirm the light signal shown there and continue to use the automatic speed and distance control or control the speed himself. For additional comfort in city traffic there is a drive reminder function. While stationary at a traffic light, the current traffic light phase is displayed in the instrument cluster; at the beginning of the green phase, the driver also receives a signal to start driving.

The Urban Cruise Control function can also be integrated into the car at a later date by means of a Remote Software Upgrade. With the exception of the BMW 8 Series models, this option is available for vehicles of all the above-mentioned series produced from July 2020 onwards and which are equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional.

New digital services for more driving pleasure: BMW News, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with new functions, personal profile picture and simple log-in.
The latest generation of the display and control system makes it possible to use new digital services in numerous current BMW models. The BMW Operating System 7, which is available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit, BMW Live Cockpit Plus or BMW Live Cockpit Professional, allows the driver to customise what is displayed to a very high degree. From November 2020, audio content will also be tailored to the driver’s wishes and needs with BMW News. Based on the driver’s individual interests, current online news is selected from publisher offerings and broadcast in the form of naturally spoken language via the vehicle's audio system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is one of the particularly innovative services that features in current models with BMW Operating System 7. The digital companion, which enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”), is constantly gaining new capabilities. From autumn 2020, the operating modes MAX eDrive and AUTO eDrive or ELECTRIC and HYBRID can also be activated in the appropriately equipped plug-in hybrid models by means of a naturally spoken instruction.

Optimised options for creating a driver profile allow further customisation opportunities. From November 2020, the driver can no longer only login by entering the BMW ID manually, but also via the My BMW App as well, making the process very convenient. A QR code generated for this purpose can be displayed on the Control Display, which can be scanned using a smartphone. The personal driver profile data can then be transferred to the vehicle. Also new: The driver can add a photo of his choice to his individual profile.

BMW X1 and BMW X2: New headlamp variants and BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features.
Adaptive LED headlights will be available for the compact BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupé from November 2020. They optimise visibility when driving at night, among other things by means of a high beam matrix function. This feature is able to increase the range of vision while at the same time avoiding any dazzle effect on other road users. To achieve this, the high beam is divided into several LED segments that can be activated and deactivated independently of each other to adapt how the road is illuminated to the respective traffic situation.

In addition, the striking BMW Individual Shadow Line lights are available as a new option for the BMW X2 and the BMW X1. The sporty appearance of the BMW X2 can be further enhanced by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features. In addition to the high-gloss black side window surrounds, this option includes a black frame for the BMW kidney grille and tailpipe trims in chrome black.

New additions to the range of paint finishes for numerous models will be introduced in autumn 2020 allowing for even greater levels of individualisation. The new San Remo Green metallic paint finish will also be available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé in future. For the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, the colours Dravit Grey metallic and Sparkling Brown metallic have been added to the range. In addition, the BMW Individual special paintwork finishes Grigio Telesto metallic, Urban Green metallic, Frozen Black metallic, Petrol Mica metallic, Ruby Red metallic, Avus Blue metallic and British Racing Green metallic are also available for the large BMW X models. 

For the BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) new paint finishes will also be available from November 2020. The purely electrically driven models will be available with paint finishes in Cashmere Silver with accents in BMW i Blue and Galvanic Gold with accents in Frozen Grey metallic and Fluid Black with accents in Frozen Grey metallic.

With the introduction of 48-volt mild hybrid technology in additional model series from summer 2020, BMW continues to consistently reduce fuel consumption and emissions in its current vehicle fleet. From July and August 2020, both efficiency and dynamic performance will be optimised in 51 models with the use of a particularly powerful starter generator and an additional battery. This also applies to the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 7 Series and in the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. Two additional engine variants are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from July 2020 onwards. In numerous plug-in hybrid models, the new BMW eDrive Zone function will ensure an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode when entering inner city areas such as low emission zones.

The extension of the range of standard and optional equipment features in the areas of driver assistance systems, operation and networking contributes to an increase in driving pleasure. A new display and control system will be part of the standard trim in the new BMW 3 Series from July 2020. Among other things, BMW Operating System 7 enables use of the optional BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Furthermore, in the BMW 3 Series and other model series the range of functions of the optional Driving Assistant Professional is supplemented by Active Navigation Guidance and the Emergency Lane Assistant.

Increased dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption: 48-volt mild hybrid technology now in 51 BMW models.
From summer 2020 onwards, mild hybrid technology will be used in numerous additional BMW models to provide support and relief for the combustion engine. It consists of a 48-volt starter generator that enables particularly intensive braking energy recuperation along with an additional battery to store the electricity that is generated in this way. The 48-volt battery not only supplies the electrically operated vehicle functions, it also makes its energy available to generate additional drive power. For this purpose the current flows back to the starter generator, which now takes on the role of an electric drive. This reduces the load on the combustion engine, allowing it to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimised load range. What is more, the generator creates an electric boost during acceleration. This instantly available additional output of 8 kW/11 hp supports dynamic power delivery during start and acceleration.

The 48-volt mild hybrid technology was first introduced in selected model variants of the BMW 5 Series in autumn 2019. This was followed by the BMW 3 Series models and several BMW X models. From July and August 2020, it will be available as standard in 37 further model variants of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. All in all it will ensure efficiency and dynamic performance in 51 current BMW models.

More power, less emissions: the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with optimised BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology.
A new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines will make its debut in numerous BMW model series in summer 2020. These highly efficient aluminium power units, each with a capacity of 3.0 litres, combine their extensively further developed BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the new 48-volt mild hybrid system, thereby achieving particularly significant progress within the context of BMW EfficientDynamics. In addition to optimised turbocharging systems, the latest version of common rail direct injection with piezo injectors ensures that both performance and efficiency are significantly increased in the new diesel engines. The injectors now transport fuel to the combustion chambers in up to ten injections per cycle and at a maximum pressure of 2,700 bar.

With maximum output increased by 15 kW/21 hp to 210 kW/286 hp, the new diesel engine for the models BMW 730d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 128 – 123 g/km) and BMW 730d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.2 – 5.0 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 138 – 133 g/km), BMW 730Ld (combined fuel consumption: 5.0 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 130 – 126 g/km), BMW 730Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.3 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 139 – 133 g/km), BMW X3 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 147 – 137 g/km), BMW X4 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 5.6 – 5.1 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 146 – 136 g/km), BMW X5 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 164 – 150 g/km) und BMW X6 xDrive30d (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 162 – 149 g/km) demonstrates a perceptibly enhanced temperament. Its particularly spontaneous power delivery is due to the multi-stage turbocharging used for the first time in this version of the in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, along with variable turbine geometry for the low-pressure stage of the system. Increased by 30 to 650 Nm, the maximum torque of the new drive unit goes on stream at between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm – a power boost that especially results in enhanced sprint capacity. For example, the BMW 730d and the BMW 730d xDrive have improved their acceleration from zero to 100 km/h by 0.2 seconds each to 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.

The new diesel engine now also used in the BMW 740d xDrive models BMW 740d xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 142 – 136 g/km), BMW 740Ld xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 5.4 – 5.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 143 – 137 g/km), BMW X3 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.0 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 157 – 148 g/km), BMW X4 M40d (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 – 5.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 156 – 147 g/km) und BMW X7 xDrive40d (combined fuel consumption: 6.6 – 6.4 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 173 – 167 g/km) generates even greater pulling power. Its multi-stage turbocharging system comprises a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As a result, a maximum torque of 700 Nm is delivered between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The engine reaches its peak output of 250 kW/340 hp at 4 400 rpm. In the BMW 740d xDrive, for example, this increased power helps achieve a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h that is also improved by 0.2 seconds to 5.0 seconds.

The two new engines are feature exhaust gas treatment technology with engine-related components consisting of a diesel oxidation catalytic converter and an SCR coating on the diesel particulate filter. For optimum reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO_X) emissions, a second dosage unit is additionally integrated at the outlet of the engine-related SCR system. As a result, the models powered by the new in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Expansion of the model range for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé model range will be extended from July 2020 with the addition of two new engine variants. A new entry-level diesel engine and an additional all-wheel drive model variant are available for the sporty, elegant four-door model in the premium compact segment. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 118 – 109 g/km) is powered by the latest version of a 4-cylinder diesel engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology in the 2.0-litre power unit now includes a two-stage turbocharging system as well as a likewise further developed common rail direct injection featuring solenoid valve injectors. The new engine delivers its maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, reaching a maximum output of 110 kW/150 hp at 4,000 rpm. The new BMW 218d Gran Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with the standard 6-speed manual transmission and in 8.5 seconds with the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The second diesel engine available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé delivers a maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In the new BMW 220d xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 129 – 119 g/km) it is now combined with intelligent all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This enables the new model variant to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Thanks to state-of-the-art exhaust gas treatment including SCR catalytic converter with AdBlue injection, both new models meet the Euro 6d emissions standard.

Green light for BMW eDrive Zone: locally emissions-free travel in the city on an automated basis.
Innovative technology from the fields of electrification and digitalisation is combined in the new BMW eDrive Zone function available in the premium car manufacturer’s plug-in hybrid models. This globally unique digital service offers additional options for making optimum use of the capabilities of emissions-free driving. The BMW eDrive Zone function triggers an automatic switch to purely electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters selected urban areas such as low-emission zones.

BMW eDrive Zone will be a standard feature of all plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series as well as the BMW X5. The digital service uses geo-fencing technology via GPS to identify designated areas. eDrive zones of this kind are currently designated in some 80 cities throughout Europe. When the service is activated, each available eDrive Zone on the navigation map is graphically highlighted in the Control Display: a message appears to inform the driver that the vehicle will automatically switch to electric driving mode as soon as it enters an eDrive Zone.

From summer 2020, the above-mentioned plug-in hybrid models will also be fitted with an integrated drive-ready sound for electric power as standard. This means that both starting and stopping the electric drive will be accompanied by a distinctive acoustic signal. In addition there has been an expansion of the range of preconditioning functions, which is also a standard feature. Depending on the equipment fitted, more functions will be available that can be activated remotely by smartphone, in addition to interior cooling and heating. In future it will also be possible to activate the seat climate control before the start of a journey, for example. In the same way it will be possible to include the seat, steering wheel, exterior mirror and rear window heating systems in the preconditioning for heating the interior, as well as heating of the cameras for the driver assistance systems.

BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring now fitted with BMW Operating System 7 as standard.
In the new BMW 3 Series, the latest generation of the display and control system will be a standard feature as of summer 2020. Previously only used in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Operating System 7 offers extensive individualisation and personalisation of the content shown on the Control Display. The standard BMW Live Cockpit now also includes a redesigned instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch digital display at its centre. BMW Live Cockpit Plus, like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This digital companion enables intuitive operation of numerous vehicle functions via voice control (“Hey, BMW”). In the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW Operating System 7 will also be part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Plus from July 2020.

The M sports seats are new to the range of optional extras for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. They feature excellent lateral support, a wide range of adjustment options and headrests with embossed M logo. The M sports seats for driver and front passenger are available in conjunction with the Model M Sport equipment line as well as for the BMW M automobiles of the new BMW 3 Series. The choice of exterior colours for the new BMW 3 Series is supplemented by the variant Phytonic Blue metallic.

Increased comfort and safety: Driving Assistant Professional with additional functions.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional is a particularly comprehensive collection of driver assistance systems designed to optimise comfort and safety: it is being used by BMW to pave the way to automated driving in numerous current models. The focus is on the steering and lane guidance assistant, which will be enhanced with additional functions from summer 2020 in the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series, in the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7, and in all variants of the BMW M5 and BMW M8.

The new Active Navigation Guidance indicates lane changes that are necessary in order to continue driving along the selected route when destination guidance is active. The driver can then carry out this operation conveniently with the aid of the lane change assistant. In addition, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function will in future include an adaptive distance control that adapts to the respective traffic situation and environmental conditions.

Further progress is also being made in the intelligent control of the Speed Limit Info system with No Passing Indicator. In all model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW Z4, the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7 as well as the BMW M5, the BMW M8, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, road sign detection will in future additionally take into account speed limits that are restricted in time and only apply on certain days of the week. On days other, the speed limit derived from the navigation data is displayed.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with optimised Integral Active Steering.
Sporty flair and ride comfort in the BMW 7 Series luxury sedans and the luxury sports cars of the BMW 8 Series benefit from Integral Active Steering. The optional suspension system combines a variable rack and pinion ratio on the front axle with selective co-steering of the rear wheels. Even at particularly low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the rear wheels are now countersteered. This gives the models of the BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series additional manoeuvrability when moving slowly in and out of parking spaces or passing through narrow gaps.

In addition, the BMW 7 Series will be available from July 2020 in the new exterior paint finish Phytonic Blue metallic and the BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Bluestone metallic. A fresh touch of luxury ambience is added to the interior with the BMW Individual leather steering wheel as well as the new version of the BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in the colour combination Smoke White/Night Blue/Black.

New body finishes for the BMW i3 and numerous other models
Another new addition to the range is the body finish in Cashmere Silver metallic, which is also available for the BMW X1. The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will also offered in Phytonic Blue metallic and Misano Blue metallic in future.

New body finishes are available for numerous other models, too. Phytonic Blue metallic and Sunset Orange metallic versions of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will be on offer from July 2020. The body finish Phytonic Blue metallic will also be available for the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 as of August 2020. What is more, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 can be fitted with the new Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers and M Carbon exterior mirror caps in conjunction with the M sports package.

The purely electrically powered models BMW i3 (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) and BMW i3s (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km) will be available from summer 2020 in the new body finish Blue Ridge Mountain with accentuations in Frozen Grey metallic.

Meanwhile new BMW Individual body finishes are available for the model variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M8. For the BMW M8 Series Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 242 g/km*) and the BMW M8 Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 246 g/km), the Ametrin metallic variant is now newly available. For both models and for the BMW M8 Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 244 g/km), the versions Bluestone metallic, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Motegi Red metallic are likewise available.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

From the spring of 2020, BMW will contribute towards a further reduction of consumption levels and the optimisation of the emission performance of current models through the use of systematically evolved drive technology. In parallel with the expansion of the range of models featuring all-electric and plug-in hybrid drive scheduled to follow during the course of the year, both the efficiency and the exhaust emission quality of petrol-driven vehicles will be significantly increased.  This is ensured, inter alia, by innovative mild hybrid technology which, following the BMW 5 Series, will as from March/April also be deployed in the BMW 3 Series as well as the model series BMW X3 and BMW X4. At the same time, in the spring of 2020, 33 further BMW models will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not become obligatory until 2021. 

A further drive variant for the BMW 1 Series as well as additional engines for the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring will enhance the diversity of available options in the premium compact and premium midrange segment. Additional options for interior design provide for greater individuality in the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

Electric pulling power for efficiency and dynamics: Mild hybrid technology with 48-volt starter generator for further models.  

BMW is extending the use of mild hybrid technology to further models. This innovation, first introduced in the autumn of 2019 forthe four model variants of the BMW 520d (combined fuel consumption: 4.9 – 4.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 128 – 108 g/km), comprises an extremely powerful 48-volt starter generator as well as an additional battery, and enhances both efficiency and dynamics of vehicles equipped with this technology. As from the spring of 2020, mild hybrid technology will also be featured as standard in the models BMW 320d Sedan (automatic transmission) (combined fuel consumption: 4.1 – 4.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 107 – 105 g/km), the BMW 320d Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.3 – 4.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 – 109 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 4.4 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 117 – 114 g/km), the BMW 320d xDrive Touring (combined fuel consumption: 4.5 – 4.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 119 – 117 g/km), the BMW X3 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 134 – 126 g/km) and the BMW X4 xDrive20d (combined fuel consumption: 5.1 – 4.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 133 – 125 g/km).

Mild hybrid technology provides significantly greater possibilities to make use of brake energy recuperation. The energy recuperated when accelerating and braking is not only used to provide electrically powered vehicle functions with energy but also to generate additional drive power. The 48-volt starter generator delivers an additional power output of up to 8 kW/11 hp. The electric over-boost is made available very spontaneously, thus enhancing dynamics when starting off and accelerating from a standstill.  During the journey, the electric over-boost can be used to support the combustion engine, enabling it to run as frequently as possible within an efficiency-optimised load range and to reduce consumption peaks. Moreover, when driving within inefficient operational ranges, it is possible to supply the 48-volt battery with additional energy from the starter generator by raising the load point when required.  

Furthermore, the 48-volt starter generator provides for exceptionally smooth switching off as well as a faster and thus more comfortable re-starting of the combustion engine when the Auto Start Stop function is used at road junctions or in traffic jams. When the vehicle decelerates, the combustion engine can be disconnected at a speed of less than 15 km/h. The kinetic energy gained when decelerating further to a standstill is then used for recuperation. The efficiencyenhancing effect of the “coasting” function has also been optimised. At a speed of up to 160 km/h, the combustion engine is no longer switched into idle mode but is completely disconnected. During the journey, engine re-start is also fast and comfortable. The optimised “coasting” function is available both in the COMFORT and ECOPRO modes of the Driving Experience Switch.

Optimised emission performance: 40 BMW models now already fulfil the future Euro 6d emission standard.

With yet a further optimisation of the emission performance of numerous models, BMW is preparing well in advance for future legal requirements governing exhaust emissions. As from the spring of 2020, 33 further models from various model series will fulfil the Euro 6d exhaust emission standard. Consequently, 40 BMW models comply with the demands specified by the more stringent standard a year prior to the new emission regulation coming into force. 

The vehicles that will already comply with the Euro 6d emission standard as from the spring of 2020 include model variants of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series and BMW 3 Series as well as the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and the BMW X6.

New drive variants for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring. Starting in March 2020, additional drive variants will increase the diversity of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series model range. The BMW 120d (combined fuel consumption: 4.6 – 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 121 – 112 g/km) will be added to the model range in the premium compact segment. The power generated by the car’s 2-litre, 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel power unit featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, allowing the new BMW 120d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 231 km/h. The new BMW 120d is one of the models that already fulfil the Euro 6d emission standard. 

The engines of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be expanded with a 216d diesel engine.

A new four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 2 litres and BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology complements the drive portfolio for the new BMW 3 Series. Next to to that an 316d diesel engine will be added for the BMW 3 Series Sedan. The power unit for the new BMW 318i Sedan (combined fuel consumption: 5.7 – 5.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 130 – 120 g/km) and the new BMW 318i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 6.2 – 5.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 140 – 130 g/km) delivers a maximum power output of 115 kW/156 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The standard equipment range for the new BMW 3 Series entry model includes an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/ is 8.4 seconds for the Sedan and 8.7 seconds for the Touring model. Top speed is 223 km/h (BMW 318i Sedan) and 220 km/h (BMW 318i Touring) respectively.

BMW 7 Series and BMW 8 Series with extended standard configuration, additional offer of leather options and interior trims for the BMW X5, the BMW X6 and the BMW X7.

From March 2020, a broader range of standard features will enhance comfort in the luxury-class models of the BMW 7 Series and the BMW 8 Series. In future, BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, BMW 8 Series luxury sports cars as well as the high-performance models BMW M8 Competition Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 242 g/km), BMW M8 Competition Convertible (combined fuel consumption: 10.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 246 g/km) and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.7 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 244 g/km) will be equipped with an automatic soft-close function for the doors.

Thanks to a wider selection of leather options and interior trims, there are now new possibilities to individualise the models BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7. As from April, the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour combination Canberra Beige/Black is additionally available for these three models. In future, the BMW X6 can be ordered with the leather trim perforated Vernasca in the colour Cognac/Black. Likewise available for the Sports Activity Coupe are the extended BMW Individual leather options Merino in the colour combinations Tartufo/Black, Ivory White/Black and Ivory White/Night Blue/Black as well as the BMW Individual all-leather interior trim Merino in the colour combinations Coffee/Black and Tartufo/Black. Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption were measured using the methods required according to Regulation (EC) 2007/715 as amended. The figures are calculated using a vehicle fitted with basic equipment in Germany, the ranges stated take into account differences in selected wheel and tyre sizes as well as the optional equipment. They may change during configuration.

The figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle and adapted to NEDC for comparison purposes. In these vehicles, different figures than those published here may apply for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions.

BMW is making further advances in its push to boost the driving pleasure and efficiency of its current model range with the introduction of state-of-the-art mild-hybrid technology in autumn 2019. Fitting a 48V starter-generator in the BMW 5 Series for the first time has the additional benefit of increasing power output and reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Meanwhile, the BMW 330e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 43 – 37 g/km), BMW 530e Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 1.8 – 1.6 l/100 km [156.9 – 176.6 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 14.5 – 13.6 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 41 – 36 g/km) and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 2.2 – 2.0 l/100 km [128.4 – 141.2 mpg imp]; electric power consumption combined: 15.4 – 14.1 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 49 – 46 g/km) plug-in hybrid models will offer even greater versatility and everyday practicality from November 2019 when a trailer coupling joins the options list.

New optional extras designed to further enhance sporting prowess and driving comfort will also be made available for numerous other models from autumn 2019. Some of the most tempting additions to the options lists include the M Performance package for the BMW M135i xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 – 6.8 l/100 km [39.8 – 41.5 mpg imp]; CO₂ emissions combined: 162 – 155 g/km), BMW Laserlight for the BMW 5 Series and the M Carbon roof for the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. Finally, new exterior and interior options open up a wealth of possibilities for individualising the new BMW X5, new BMW X6 and new BMW X7.

BMW 5 Series: mild-hybrid technology for extra sprinting power and efficiency.

In autumn 2019, BMW will present another element in its powertrain electrification strategy to accompany the ongoing expansion of its plug-in hybrid line-up. Mild-hybrid technology will make its debut in the BMW 5 Series, where it will help to both lighten the combustion engine’s workload and boost its power, meaning not just superior efficiency but sharper performance. Fitting an extremely powerful 48V starter-generator and a second battery significantly enhances the functionality of Brake Energy Regeneration by enabling the energy recuperated when braking or on the overrun to be harnessed not just for powering electrical vehicle functions, but for generating additional drive power. For this, the 48V starter-generator acts likes an electric drive unit that assists the engine, allowing the latter to operate within an efficiency-optimised load range as frequently as possible. An electric overboost function, meanwhile, injects an extra dose of dynamism when accelerating under full throttle.

The 48V starter-generator has the additional benefit of allowing the engine to be switched off with remarkably little vibration and restarted more smoothly when using the Auto Start Stop function. This also makes it possible to completely shut off the engine in coasting mode, rather than just disconnecting it from the drivetrain. As of November 2019, mild-hybrid technology will be fitted as standard on the BMW 520d Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 4.1 – 4.3 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 108 –112 g/km), BMW 520d xDrive Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 4.5 – 4.7 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 117 – 123 g/km), BMW 520d Touring (fuel consumption combined: 4.3 – 4.5 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 114 – 118 g/km) and BMW 520d xDrive Touring (fuel consumption combined: 4.7 – 4.9 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined: 124 – 128 g/km). The fuel consumption figures of the 140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel engine that powers this quartet of models will be cut by up to 0.3 litres per 100 kilometres as a result.

The enhancements to the BMW 5 Series range also include the introduction of BMW Laserlight on further model variants. This lighting technology – which increases high-beam range to a maximum 650 metres – will be added to the wealth of innovations aboard both the BMW M550d xDrive Sedan and BMW M550d xDrive Touring from November 2019.

BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid models now also available with a trailer coupling.

The hallmark sporting flair of BMW cars, outstanding efficiency and the option of driving with zero local emissions highlight the progressive character of the plug-in hybrid BMW 3 Series and 5 Series models. The BMW 330e Sedan, BMW 530e Sedan and BMW 530e xDrive Sedan can also be ordered with almost the complete range of optional extras available for the conventionally powered model variants, allowing driving pleasure and comfort to be tailored to individual requirements. A trailer coupling with an electrically pivoting hitch ball will be added to the list of options in November 2019, further enhancing the plug-in hybrid models’ practical value in everyday driving. These three models will have a maximum trailer load of 750 kilograms.

BMW 1 Series: M Performance package for the BMW M135i xDrive.

Model-specific design features showcase the performance capabilities of the new BMW M135i xDrive even in its standard guise. But now customers will be able to lend the 225 kW/306 hp range-topper’s standout sporting credentials even greater visual impact by opting for the new M Performance package. Available from November 2019, its special 18‑inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and the deletion of the storage package reduce vehicle weight by around ten kilograms. This results in a 0.1-second improvement in the car’s 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time, to 4.7 seconds. Added to which, the new M Performance package for the BMW 135i xDrive brings exterior mirror caps and exhaust tailpipes in a Black painted finish and a mesh-design BMW kidney grille in High-gloss Black with a surround painted in the same colour.

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe: M Carbon roof shaves off extra weight.

The new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe brings genuine sports car feel to the occupants of its four full-size seats. The M Carbon exterior package available since launch already accents the car’s dynamic verve with some precise touches. And from November 2019, the choice of optional extras for the four-door luxury sports car will expand to include an M Carbon roof, which will be available as an individual item for the BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe and in conjunction with the M Sport package for the other model variants. As well as creating a look clearly inspired by racing cars, the M Carbon roof brings about a further reduction in weight. Interior trim strips in Carbon Fibre can also be ordered as an optional extra for the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe for the first time.

BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7: new customisation options.

The appearance, interior ambience and comfort levels of the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 can now be attuned even more precisely to personal preferences thanks to a number of new equipment options. M multifunction front seats are just one of the optional features due to become available for the executive- and luxury-class BMW X models from December 2019. Quite apart from their outstanding comfort, the seats also offer a wide range of adjustment options, all operated electrically. They can also be upgraded by the addition of massage and ventilation functions for even greater comfort on long journeys.

Customers seeking the ultimate in exclusivity can look forward to the BMW Individual Composition, which will be offered for the new BMW X5, new BMW X6 and new BMW X7 from December 2019. This equipment package comprises a selection of highly exclusive options for the exterior and interior boasting exceptional material quality and workmanship. 22-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels and a BMW Individual paint finish ensure the BMW X models cut a stylish figure. Inside, BMW Individual Merino full leather trim, a BMW Individual headliner in Alcantara and BMW Individual interior trim strips in Piano Finish Black create a sense of high luxury. 

The options list for the new BMW X6 also now includes a load compartment package comprising sliding rails, non-slip rails and retaining nets. Interior trim strips in Ash Grain Brown or Fineline Stripe and Vernasca design-perforated leather trim in Ivory White add to the choice of customisation options for the cabin. Paint finishes in Sapphire Black metallic and Sophisto Grey brilliant effect metallic and the BMW Individual paint finishes Tanzanite Blue metallic and Ametrine metallic have now been added to the colour palette for customers wishing to give the Sports Activity Coupe’s exterior a particularly striking look. An M Carbon rear spoiler and M Carbon mirror caps can also be specified to bring the car’s sporting genes even further to the fore.

The Adaptive M suspension Professional optionally available for the new BMW X5 gives it far greater poise in dynamic driving situations. This optional extra, comprising active roll stabilisation, the M Sport differential and Integral Active Steering, will also be available for the BMW X5 xDrive40i and BMW X5 xDrive30d from December 2019. The functionality of the Driving Assistant Professional will be enhanced in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 with the addition of the new Lane Change Assistant, which aids the driver with automated steering movements during overtaking manoeuvres.

Driving Assistant Professional brings real-time 3D visualisation of the surrounding area to the instrument cluster.

The Driving Assistant Professional offers drivers an extremely wide range of assistance in monotonous and complex traffic situations. Its range of functions now includes 3D visualisation of the area around the car, which has been available in all models equipped with BMW Live Cockpit Professional since July 2019. The system uses the data supplied by the driver assistance systems’ cameras and sensors to generate a real-time three-dimensional graphic image of the vehicle’s surroundings. The image appears in the centre of the instrument cluster and helps to give the driver a clearer overview of what is happening on the road, especially when driving on multi-lane highways. This means the driver can also register the position of other road users driving in front of or alongside them when they glance down at the speedometer or rev counter.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with separate iDrive menu and individual configurability.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant enjoys additional functionality gains. Since July 2019 users have been able to access all the relevant settings via a separate menu in the BMW Operating System 7.0. This means the driver can adjust the functioning of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant according to the driving situation at hand. For example, the intelligent and proactive functions can be switched on and off, and notifications and phone calls can be anonymised if passengers are on board.

As such, the distinctive character and outstanding agility of the third engine generation ensures an unmistakable sporty driving experience ex works. However, this can be intensified even further: as soon after the market launch of the new BMW 1 Series, an extensive range of exclusive M Performance Parts is available that allow the car’s sporty appearance and dynamic potential to be given an additional boost. As is customary for BMW, all components are harmonised with each other and with the specific character of the new model. Various lightweight construction parts in a new carbon fibre look and components in high-gloss black underscore the car’s sporty appearance while at the same time highlighting the lines of the body. What is more, the M Performance front splitter, the horizontal-flow rear spoiler and the aero flicks in high-gloss black optimise aerodynamics, thereby enhancing the talents of the compact 5-door model in the area of driving dynamics. The same applies to the high-gloss black side sill insert and the rear diffuser in lightweight carbon fibre. All M Performance components were developed especially for the new BMW 1 Series and perfectly harmonised in the wind tunnel. The high-quality carbon fibre components are crafted elaborately by hand before being sealed with a clear finish and given a high-gloss polish. This also applies to the M Performance exterior mirror caps, whose high-tech character provides an attractive eye-catcher. BMW M Performance Parts also offers the new M kidney grille with mesh design as a retrofitting solution.

Highlights the proportions: lettering in Frozen Black.
In addition, the range of M Performance Parts also includes options to further refine the car's sporty exterior design. The side lettering in Frozen Black highlights the model's new proportions, for example, adding an attractive accentuation to the body. The decor set with striking colouring and M Performance inscription goes perfectly with the other mounted parts, individually highlighting the car’s sporty character. As a supplement to this, the vehicle front can be refined with lettering in high-gloss black.

For powerful deceleration: 18-inch M Performance sports brake.
In keeping with its increased driving dynamics, the new BMW 1 Series can also be fitted with an 18-inch M Performance sports brake system, whose striking characteristics are enhanced deceleration performance and increased thermal resilience – even in extreme conditions. The brake’s attractive appearance with calipers finished in red provides a perfect match for the car’s sporty design style; this is showcased especially effectively in combination with an open wheel design. As compared to the standard brake system, the front axle has larger inner-vented, perforated discs in lightweight design which are powerfully gripped by 4-piston fixed calipers. The amply sized calipers are made of a aluminium alloy so as to save weight. The rear axle features matching lightweight construction brake discs with single-piston floating caliper.

All-round perfection: sporty complete wheel sets in 18 and 19 inches.
Matching the sports brake, BMW offers the high-quality M Performance forged wheel Y-Spoke 554M in an 18-inch format. This weight-optimised summerwheel in Jet Black matt features a multicoloured graphic print that perfectly showcases the M Performance inscription and M logo. The light alloy wheel Y-Spoke 711M in Ferric Grey is likewise available in an 18-inch format. This winter wheel is suitable for use with snow chains and can also be combined with the M Performance sports brake. The range also includes the 19-inch M Performance light alloy wheel Double Spoke 555M in bicolour look, which is available as a complete wheel set for use in summer.

The M Performance wheel bags are recommended as a practical solution for storing and transporting these high-quality wheels. They protect the driver and vehicle from soiling and are convenient for loading due to their reinforced handles. Sporty flair directly on entry: LED door projectors with M Performance motifs.
The BMW door projectors provide a sporty welcome even when the doors are opened. With the three different motives included in the M Performance slide set it is possible to have the BMW M logo or other graphics projected onto the ground next to the vehicle. The lighting not only ensures comfort and safety when entering and exiting the vehicle, it also creates a very exclusive, distinctive atmosphere. The sporty motifs are clearly perceptible, even at dusk.

Pure racing feeling: sporty highlights in the cockpit.
Distinctive touches of sporty enhancement are also available for the interior of the new BMW 1 Series. The M Performance steering wheel with distinctive Alcantara grip area and large thumbrest offers genuine racing feeling, for example. In addition to the steering wheel's pleasant touch combined with an excellent grip, visual accentuations are provided by the red marking at the 12 o’clock position and the silver-grey hand-sewn cross-stitching. The steering wheel’s sporty high-tech character can be further enhanced with the M Performance steering wheel trim, for which there is a choice between carbon fibre/Alcantara and carbon fibre/leather. In both cases, the 6 o’clock detail bears the M Performance inscription. There is an additional option for vehicles with Steptronic sports transmission: high-quality M Performance carbon fibre shift paddles can be selected to further enhance the motor racing atmosphere in the cockpit.

Munich. Camouflaged pre-series vehicles of the third-generation BMW 1 Series are currently still undergoing extensive test drives at the BMW proving ground in Miramas, Southern France. The facility’s diverse handling tracks offer the optimal conditions for refining agility and dynamics of the new BMW 1 Series. This was preceded by five years of intensive development work and the change to the modern BMW front-wheel drive architecture.  

A genuine BMW with an individual character.
The new BMW 1 Series will set new standards in the premium compact class in terms of driving dynamics, whilst also offering significantly more space inside. With a cutting edge suspension set-up, innovative technologies and the integration of all driving dynamics-related components and control systems, the BMW 1 Series achieves greater agility both with the new front-wheel drive and BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive. “Our customers will directly feel the fast and precise responsiveness that provides for an optimised driving experience. The BMW 1 Series will be a genuine BMW with an individual character,” says Peter Langen, head of Driving Dynamics at the BMW Group.

Transfer of technology from the BMW i3.
On the new BMW 1 Series, BMW has utilized all of the experience gained over recent years with BMW Group front-wheel drive models. A crucial element for the car’s exceptionally high agility is ARB technology (actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation) known from the BMW i3s, which is now celebrating its debut in a vehicle with a combustion engine. This transfer of technology from the BMW i brand to the core brand BMW improves traction decisively, while facilitating significantly more sensitive and faster control.

ARB technology, which is standard on the BMW 1 Series, features a slip control system positioned directly in the engine control unit instead of in the control unit for the DSC function (Dynamic Stability Control). Without long signal paths, information is passed on three times faster, with the regulation speed perceived by the driver actually being up to ten times faster. In close coordination with the DSC function, actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation significantly reduces the power understeer usually experienced with front-wheel drive vehicles, but without control intervention to stabilise lateral dynamics. BMW Performance Control (yaw moment distribution) also comes as standard and additionally increases agility of the BMW 1 Series through dynamic brake intervention. Moreover, torsional stiffness of the body structure is enhanced by the targeted use of additional struts such as a standard rear-end “boomerang strut”. “Through this extensive integration of all driving dynamics-related aspects as well as the new, innovative traction control feature, we are creating a completely novel driving experience,” says Holger Stauch, BMW 1 Series project manager.

The most powerful BMW Group 4-cylinder engine for the new top-of-the-range model.
A newly developed 4-cylinder engine stands out prominently within the drive portfolio of the new BMW 1 Series. The BMW M135i xDrive (combined fuel consumption: 7,1-6,8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 162-155 g/km)* features the most powerful 4-cylinder engine from the BMW Group with a 2-litre capacity and BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The power unit delivers 225 kW (306 hp), ensuring extremely dynamic handling properties through individual technical solutions such as a reinforced crank drive, new pistons and cod rods, a larger exhaust turbocharger as well as optimised fuel injection valves.

More interior space.
The BMW 1 Series has taken a major leap forward in terms of interior spaciousness. Thanks to the new front-wheel drive architecture with transverse engines and a low centre tunnel, noticeably more space is now available than in the predecessor model, especially on the back seats. For example, legroom for rear-seat passengers has increased by 33 millimetres and headroom at the back by 19 millimetres. Access to the rear compartment is now easier and luggage compartment capacity has increased by 20 litres to 380 litres. Thus, the new BMW 1 Series combines outstanding handling characteristics with significantly improved spaciousness.

Munich/Beijing. Today’s market launch of the BMW 1 Series sedan extends the range of the German premium brand to include a model tailored specifically to meet the needs of Chinese customers. The BMW 1 Series Sedan with its hallmark sporty flair and market-specific overall concept is a highly emotional new entry to the compact premium vehicle segment that is seeing such high potential in China. The new model is offered exclusively for the Chinese automotive market by the BMW Group and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan was developed at BMW headquarters in Munich with the support of Chinese engineers. The vehicle concept, and equipment are geared towards the specific requirements of modern target groups in China as well as the road and traffic conditions there. During development for volume production, the new model underwent intense testing and harmonisation both globally like on the Nürburgring as well as in the wide-ranging climatic and road conditions to be found in China so as to ensure a level of everyday suitability and driving pleasure that is oriented towards the real environment in which it will be used.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan is manufactured as part of the joint venture between the BMW Group and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. at the Tiexi plant opened in 2012 which forms part of the Shenyang production site in the north east of China. Other models of the brand designed specifically for the Chinese automotive market are also produced in Shenyang. Vehicle production in Shenyang is subject to the same rigorous quality standards that apply throughout the entire worldwide BMW Group production network.

Compact sedan with the sporty flair characteristic of BMW.

The vehicle concept of the BMW 1 Series Sedan is precisely tailored to the preferences of Chinese customers. With its notchback body in characteristic three-box design, the new model reflects the style preferred by such customers in numerous vehicle categories. A special program of BMW products has been assembled in response to the popularity of sedans in China. BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series Sedans are also available in a long version developed exclusively for the Chinese market and manufactured at the Shenyang production site.

As a supplement to the 5-door hatchback BMW 1 Series models produced in Germany, the brand now adds a sedan to its range in the premium compact segment that was conceived especially for China and solely produced there. The BMW 1 Series Sedan represents the brand's hallmark combination of sporty flair and elegance while also offering best in segment ride comfort, luxurious equipment and progressive connectivity technology that is exceptional for the compact segment. With these qualities, it is a particularly attractive model for young target groups seeking access to the world of BMW premium automobiles.

Hallmark design with distinctive lines.

The sporty elegance of the BMW 1 Series Sedan, unique in the premium compact segment, is reflected in both the proportions and the lines of its body. An unmistakable appearance is especially created by applying the characteristic design features of BMW sedans to the new model’s compact exterior dimensions with a length of 4 456 millimetres, a width of 1 803 millimetres and a height of 1 446 millimetres. Short overhangs, a long engine compartment lid, a passenger cell that is set back and a long wheelbase of 2 670 millimetres give the BMW 1 Series Sedan an elongated, sporty look. The distinctive body line rises constantly from the front wheel arch via the door openers to the rear lights, additionally emphasising the dynamic orientation of the car’s silhouette.

The contours of the doors are also harmoniously integrated in the proportions of the compact model. The rear openings reach far back into the tail section, allowing comfortable entry and exit for rear passengers. What is more, the side view of the 4-door model exhibits the striking surface design that is typical of the BMW 1 Series. The intense modelling of the surface areas creates an attractive interplay of light and shade, conveying a vibrant sense of athletic flair.

The hallmark brand features of the front section include the wide radiator grille, large air inlets and twin circular headlights with state-of-the-art LED technology. The rear of the BMW 1 Series Sedan sports a model-specific design dominated by horizontal lines which underscore the vehicle’s width and supreme road holding. The rear lights protruding far into the side section to form a characteristic L shape likewise emphasise the car’s powerful appearance.

Driver-oriented cockpit, generous space and premium ambience.

The interior of the BMW 1 Series Sedan offers the perfect basis for intense driving pleasure and enjoyable travel. The cockpit is driver-oriented in design as is typical of BMW automobiles. Both the seating position and the arrangement of the display and control elements enhances concentration on the road. The iDrive operating system featuring a large on-board computer in flatscreen design and the controller in the centre console is a standard feature of the BMW 1 Series Sedan. New engine generation: revving power and efficiency in BMW style.

The modern and sporty character of the BMW 1 Series Sedan is reflected in the engine portfolio available at the model's market launch. There is a choice of three power units of the BMW Group’s latest generation. Their weight-optimised aluminium construction and the current version of BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology ensure exceptional revving power and torque in addition to exemplary efficiency. The technology package consists of turbocharging, petrol direction injection with centrally positioned injectors, and variable valve control in the form of VALVETRONIC as patented by the BMW Group, and variable camshaft control on the intake and exhaust side (double VANOS).

This combination results in particularly sporty performance characteristics in the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine of the BMW 125i Sedan. It mobilises a peak output of 170 kW/231 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Newton metres that goes on stream at 1 250 rpm. Fitted as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, the BMW 125i Sedan sprints from standing to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, achieving a cut-off top speed of 250 km/h. These performance figures are combined with an average fuel consumption of 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres and a combined CO2 figure of 152 grams per kilometre.

Another 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine is fitted in the BMW 120i Sedan. With a peak output of 141 kW/192 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Newton metres of 1 250 rpm, it also ensures sporty performance figures. In combination with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission – likewise a standard feature – it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h. The combined fuel consumption of the BMW 120i Sedan is 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres, while the figure for combined CO2 emissions is 148 grams per kilometre.

The engine range is rounded off with a 3-cylinder power unit for the BMW 118i Sedan. From a capacity of 1.5 litres it generates a peak output of 100 kW/136 hp, while its maximum torque of 220 Newton metres is available at 1 250 rpm. Fitted with a 6-speed Steptronic transmission, the BMW 118i Sedan takes 9.4 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h and its top speed is 212 km/h. The efficiency of the engine is reflected in a combined fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres and a combined CO2 figure of 132 grams per kilometre.

Model-specific suspension set-up, seamless safety.

The driving properties of the new BMW 1 Series Sedan are characterised by athletic flair, ride comfort and safety. A perfect basis is provided for this by means of power transmission to the front wheels, an almost equally balanced axle load distribution and the weight-optimised design of the body and suspension. The suspension set-up is not just geared towards the sporty character of the model but also meets high demands in terms of comfort. The suspension and damping are designed to ensure occupants experience as relaxed a ride as possible on all road surfaces. Optimised acoustic comfort is taken care of by such features as a fully panelled underbody and tyres with reduced rolling resistance.

Powerful disc brakes and an electromechanical power steering including Servotronic speed-related support help achieve a precisely controllable driving response. Dynamic Stability Control DSC offers a broad range of functions that contribute to secure handling at all times. Light alloy wheels in a size of 17 inches for the BMW 118iSedan (16 inches for BMW 118i Lifestyle) and 18 inches for the two other model variants come as standard.

The torsionally stiff body structure of the BMW 1 Series Sedan benefits both agility and occupant protection. The safety concept also includes precisely defined load paths and generous deformation zones which serve to divert and absorb impact forces in the event of a collision. The interior provides a comprehensive range of safety features including not just front and side airbags but also side head/curtain airbags and three-point automatic safety belts on all seats. All model variants come off the production line as standard fitted with tyres featuring emergency running properties.

Driving experience switch as standard, selective customisation with Sport Line and Luxury Line.

The standard driving experience switch in the centre console enables a vehicle-set-up which is either markedly sporty, comfort-oriented or efficiency optimised in character – entirely according to preference. The modes COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO are available at the press of a button. In addition, the standard features of the BMW 1 Series Sedan also include automatic air conditioning with optimised acoustic properties. This forms part of a model-specific heating and ventilation system which is also adapted to the specific climatic conditions in China, offering not just high performance but also a highly effective air filtering function. In addition to numerous other comfort functions, the program of optional items includes a broad range of exterior paint finishes, light alloy wheels, interior colours, seat surfaces and interior trim finishers which allow customers to individualise the design of the BMW 1 Series Sedan to suit their personal preference. The Sport Line and Luxury Line models are available as an alternative to the basic version. Unique connectivity: Driver assistance, services, apps.

The optional driver assistance systems provide an additional bonus in terms of comfort and safety. The range of systems includes the Driving Assistant including collision warning with city brake function, the Parking Assistant, and also Active Cruise Control with stop and go function.

Intelligent connectivity gives the BMW 1 Series Sedan a range of online-based functions that is unique even beyond the compact segment. Apps allow seamless integration of numerous infotainment, navigation and communication services in the vehicle’s operating system. What is more, BMW Connected gives the driver a personal mobility assistant which provides wide-ranging support in arriving at a destination conveniently and stress-free. The flexible platform Open Mobility Cloud allows various customer end devices such as smartphones, tablets and smart watches to be connected to the vehicle. This means that personal schedule entries can be used to plan a trip before getting into the car, for example. Based on real-time traffic data, BWM Connected not only calculates the ideal route but also the perfect departure time, providing the driver with a notification on their end device in good time. It is also possible to use the smartphone to find out whether the windows and doors are closed or how much fuel is left in the tank.

With the world premiere of the most powerful diesel engine ever used in a BMW production car and the introduction of three BMW iPerformance models, the drive portfolio of the BMW 7 Series continues to gain in diversity and fascination in the summer of 2016. At the same time, the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series will feature further petrol engines of the BMW Group's latest drive generation for the first time. These also include an even more powerful but also more efficient straight six-cylinder for the BMW M Performance models BMW M140i 3-door, BMW M140i 5-door, the BMW M240i Coupe and the BMW M240i Convertible.

Like the plug-in hybrid powered BMW 7 Series luxury sedans, the three additional BMW iPerformance models will in future also be recognisable by their characteristic exterior design features. Other innovations taking effect as from July 2016 include the introduction of the optional features telephony with wireless charging and WLAN hotspot for additional series. Moreover, in conjunction with the optional navigation system Professional, the iDrive control system now also features a new menu display in tile format for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible, models of the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

BMW 7 Series: New high-performance diesel engine and three BMW iPerformance models.

With the latest innovations in the field of drive technology being introduced in the summer of 2016, the BMW 7 Series is yet again setting a fascinating example of dynamics and efficiency in the luxury sedan segment. An entirely newly developed straight six-cylinder diesel engine is making its debut in the models BMW 750d xDrive and BMW 750Ld xDrive. The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology featured in the 3-litre power unit comprises four turbochargers, whose precisely coordinated function ensures an early onset of pulling power that continues right up into high engine speed ranges. With a peak output of 294 kW/400 hp and a maximum torque of 760 Newton metres, the new six-cylinder is the most powerful diesel engine ever used in a BMW model. With supreme power delivery and power transmission via the standard intelligent four-wheel drive system, the BMW 750d xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds (BMW 750Ld xDrive: 4.7 seconds), also offering even more forward thrust at high speeds that can be felt intensively at any time during short bursts of speed. Furthermore, the new top-of-the-range diesel model excels through exceptionally low fuel consumption that is truly unique in this performance class. Combined fuel consumption of the BMW 750d xDrive and the BMW 750Ld xDrive is between 5.9 and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are between 154 – 149 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The BMW 7 Series iPerformance models will also be launched together with new diesel variants in the summer of 2016. The plug-in hybrid drive system including BMW eDrive technology from BMW i automobile development will become available for the models BMW 740e iPerformance featuring a standard wheelbase, for the BMW 740Le iPerformance with a long wheelbase and for the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance with intelligent four-wheel drive. Together, the combustion engine and electric motor featured in these models generate a system output of 240 kW/326 hp, their intelligently controlled interaction ensuring impressively spontaneous power delivery resulting in exemplary efficiency. Furthermore, driving in solely electric mode is possible with a vehicle range of up to 44 to 48 kilometres (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 41 – 45 kilometres). The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed in 5.4 seconds with the BMW 740e iPerformance, in 5.5 seconds with the BMW 740Le iPerformance and in 5.3 seconds with the BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance. Average combined fuel consumption per 100 kilometres is between 2.2 and 2.0 litres (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 2.5 – 2.1 litres). CO2 emissions are between 50 and 45 grams per kilometre (BMW 740e iPerformance) or 51 and 45 grams per kilometre (BMW 740Le iPerformance) or 56 and 49 grams per kilometre (BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance) respectively. Combined power consumption is 13.9 kWh/100 km to 12.5 kWh/100 km. (figures as per EU test cycle for plug-in hybrid vehicles, depending on selected tyre size).

BMW M Performance models of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series: New engine generation with enhanced power and optimised efficiency.

From July 2016, BMW M Performance automobiles of the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series will underscore their outstanding sporting character even more intensely with an extremely powerful straight six-cylinder petrol engine of the latest generation. Compared with the previous engine, the newly developed 3-litre power unit featuring M Performance Twin Power Turbo technology now mobilises 250 kW/340 hp following a power increase of 10 kW/14 hp and delivers a maximum of 500 Newton metres of torque. As a result, the BMW M Performance models now come up to the performance level of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, which was built from 2011 to 2012. They complete the spurt from 0 to 100 km/h by up to 0.3 seconds faster than the predecessor models, whilst both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as per EU test cycle are up to 7 percent lower than before. The increase in power under the bonnet and the resulting enhanced dynamics are also expressed in the new model designations for the BMW M140i 3-door, the BMW M140i 5-door, the BMW M240i Coupe and the BMW M240i Convertible. They are optionally available with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive technology.

With the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the models BMW M140i 3-door and BMW M140i 5-door accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds or with the optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission in 4.6 seconds respectively. Fuel consumption as per EU test cycle is 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 7.1 litres) and CO2 emissions 179 grams per kilometre (163 g/km). The BMW M140i xDrive 3-door and the BMW M140i xDrive 5-door come as standard with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and both reach the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in 4.4 seconds. Their combined fuel consumption is 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions are 169 grams per kilometre.

The BMW M Performance models of the BMW 2 Series are also optionally available with BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive technology and are in this case equipped as standard with the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission. The BMW M240i Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds (automatic: 4.6 seconds) and has a combined fuel consumption of 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres (7.1 litres) as per EU test cycle. CO2 emissions are 179 grams per kilometre (163 g/km). The BMW M240i xDrive Coupe completes the sprint to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and achieves an average fuel consumption of 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres as well as a CO2 emission level of 169 grams per kilometre. The BMW M240i Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds (automatic: 4.7 seconds). Average fuel consumption is 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 7.4 litres) and CO2 emissions are 189 grams per kilometre (169 g/km). BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible: New four-cylinder petrol engine for eight models.

From July 2016, the generation change under the bonnet will affect many further models of the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 2 Series. Two variants of the BMW 1 Series 3-door, the BMW 1 Series 5-door, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible will each be powered by new four-cylinder petrol engines that further optimize the balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption. The 2-litre power units both feature latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprising a Twin Scroll turbo charger, direct petrol injection, VALVETRONIC and Double VANOS. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a standard 6-speed manual transmission and optionally via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The new engines help the BMW 120i 3-door and the BMW 120i 5-door attain an increase in output of 5 kW/7 hp to 135 kW/184 hp. Equipped with the standard manual transmission or the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission, both models accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is between 6.1 and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 5.9 and 5.5 litres). CO2 emissions are between 140 and 131 grams per kilometres (135 – 126 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

Engine output of the models BMW 125i 3-door and BMW 125i 5-door has also increased by 5 kW/7 hp. With a power delivery of 165 kW/224 hp and the meanwhile standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission, both models now sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The enhanced dynamics are coupled with a lower fuel consumption of 5.9 to 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of 134 to 130 grams per kilometre (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

The new version of the 135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder engine also optimizes efficiency of the BMW 220i Coupe and the BMW 220i Convertible. The BMW 220i Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds (automatic: 7.2 seconds and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 6.1 bis 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (5.9 – 5.5 litres) and CO2-emissions of 140 to 131 grams per kilometre (135 – 126 g/km). The BMW 220i Convertible sprints to100 km/h in 7.5 seconds (7.7 seconds) and combined fuel consumption is now between 6.5 and 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres (6.1 – 5.7 litres). CO2 emission levels are between 149 and 139 grams per kilometre (140 – 131 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

July 2016 will see the launch of the BMW 2 Series’ sportiest four-cylinder variants with a power output increase of 5 kW/7 hp to 185 kW/252 hp vs. their predecessors and with the model designations BMW 230i Coupe and BMW 230i Convertible. These also come as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and optionally with an 8-speed Steptronic or 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission respectively. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed by the BMW 230i Coupe in 5.8 seconds (automatic: 5.6 seconds). Average fuel consumption is between 6.4 and 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres (5.9 – 5.7 litres) and CO2 emissions are between 147 and 142 grams per kilometre (134 – 130 g/km). The BMW 230i Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds (automatic: 5.9 seconds) and has a combined fuel consumption of 6.8 to 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres (6.2 – 6.0 litres). CO2 emissions are between 155 and 149 grams per kilometre (142 – 137 g/km (figures as per EU test cycle, depending on selected tyre size).

With the market launch of the first plug-in hybrid models, BMW eDrive technology comprising electric motors, lithium ion high-performance batteries and intelligent energy management have now been added to the BMW brand’s vehicle range. In addition to the three BMW 7 Series plug-in hybrid models available starting July 2016, three further segments offer a choice of vehicles combining a combustion engine with an electric drive. In future, they will bear the model designations BMW 225xe iPerformance Active Tourer, BMW 330e iPerformance Sedan and BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance. The technology transfer from BMW i automobile development, helping them attain a new level of dynamics and path-breaking efficiency, is now underscored by characteristic exterior design features.

In addition to the “eDrive” logo on the C pillar, the BMW iPerformance models will feature a BMW i logo on the front left and right sidewalls, blue hubcaps and a BMW kidney grill with slats painted in typical BMW i blue. From December 2016, these new features will be standard on the BMW X5 xDrive40e iPerformance and on all further BMW iPerformance models as early as from July 2016. Analogous to the model name plates on all BMW models, specific design features on BMW iPerformance models can also be omitted if the customer so wishes. Further equipment features originally designed for the BMW i3 and the BMW i8 and which are also available as standard or as options for all BMW iPerformance models, include hybrid-specific BMW ConnectedDrive services as well as the complete BMW i 360° ELECTRIC portfolio.

New from BMW ConnectedDrive: BMW iDrive with optimized menu display, telephony with wireless charging and WLAN hotspot available for further models.

From the summer of 2016, three new features from BMW ConnectedDrive, which were previously only available for the BMW 7 Series and BMW 6 Series, will also find their way to the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible, the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series. A new, extremely clearly structured menu display and a higher screen resolution for the Control Display will in future optimize the control of vehicle, infotainment, navigation and communication functions via the iDrive controller. In conjunction with the navigation system Professional, the on-board monitor no longer displays the main menu and control options for the various functions in lists, but in the form of adjacently arranged tile symbols. Furthermore, the speech recognition feature of the navigation system Professional has been supplemented by the function Natural Language, with which spoken instructions can be given not only as predefined text modules, but also freely formulated in complete sentences.

The optional feature telephony with wireless charging enhances comfort when using mobile phones inside the vehicle. Inductively chargeable smartphones can be supplied wirelessly with electricity during the journey using the mobile telephone facility provided for this purpose in the centre console. Apart from the integration of the smartphone into the vehicle operating system, the new option also includes a connection to the exterior antenna and two USB ports as well as the WLAN hotspot function, which facilitates high-speed Internet connectivity for up to eight mobile end devices.

Wider choice of leather seats for the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series, BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series.

As a variant that is ideally suited to the charisma of the model M Sport, the leather trim Dakota in the colour black with blue contrast stitching will be available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and the BMW 2 Series Convertible as well as for all models of the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series from July 2016. In the case of all BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series, both the model M Sport as well as the models Luxury Line and Sport Line can now be ordered with the seat variant Dakota Veneto Beige in combination with the interior colour black.
