*All figures relating to performance, fuel and
electricity consumption, electric range and emissions are provisional.
All the stated technical data including fuel consumption, electric
range and emissions figures relate to the offering in the German
market. Dimensions and measurements refer to vehicles with basic
configuration in Germany. These may vary depending on the wheel/tyre
size and items of optional equipment selected.
**Electronically limited.

These extensive revisions represent all the ingredients required
to strengthen the position of the BMW X5 as the global market leader
in its segment and underpin the leading status of the BMW X6. Both
models will continue to be built at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg.

The new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 are available to order now, priced
from £66,230 and £72,430 respectively and the UK market launch will
get underway in April 2023.

The new BMW X5: slim headlights, illuminated BMW kidney
grille
The new BMW X5 and BMW X6 proudly adopt the new
design for the BMW kidney grille and narrower signature BMW
headlights, with arrow-shaped daytime driving lights that serve as
turn signal indicators. Equipped with Adaptive LED headlights and high
beam assist as standard, they can also be specified with M Shadowline
lights with black inlays.

The BMW kidney grille has a surround and bars in Pearl-effect
Chrome while the BMW Iconic Glow is introduced as part of the M Sport
Pro pack. The Iconic Glow illumination is activated when one of the
doors is opened and can be switched on or off manually by the driver.
Vertical air curtains positioned to the outer edges emphasise the
width of the car. The lower air intake has a horizontal trim detail in
Pearl-effect Chrome and triangular apertures in its outer areas.

Newly designed air breathers, LED rear lights with X
motif
The air breathers in the front side panels of the
BMW X5 sport a striking curving element at the front (finished in
Pearl-effect Chrome as standard or in Black on M Sport and M60i
models), and three horizontal blades at their trailing edge. The BMW
X5 xDrive50e also has “electrified by i” badging here and the BMW X5
M60i xDrive features its model designation.

The new BMW X5 now comes as standard with Satin Aluminium roof
rails and Exterior Line trim, as well as underride protection in
Glacier Silver and new geometry for the rear apron. The redesigned
rear lights turn heads with their striking sculptural fibre-optic
light guide elements. The familiar L shape is reflected horizontally,
creating a visually powerful X motif. Pulsating turn signal indicators
at the rear round off the impressive lighting.

The new BMW X6: expressive front end with large air
intakes
The new BMW X6 again features slim headlight
units with arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements, optionally
specified as M Shadowline lights. The BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille is
available as part of the M Sport Pro pack, while M Sport models
feature an octagonal front-end signature below the BMW kidney grille,
with striking side apertures and black surfaces.

Powerful rear end styling with slim lights extending into the
tailgate
M-specific side skirts and M High-gloss
Shadowline trim reflect the agile character of the new BMW X6. The
rear apron has an insert in Dark Shadow, while the exhaust tailpipe
trims are trapezoidal in shape. The slim rear lights reach far into
the tailgate, their light signature echoing the familiar L shape.

M Sport and flagship M60i models with distinctive design
features
M Sport models bring an extra sense of
excitement, with their M-specific front apron design, roof rails in
Black high-gloss, M High-gloss Shadowline trim, plus rear apron with
Dark Shadow inlay and trapezoidal exhaust trims.

The range-topping BMW X5 M60i xDrive and BMW X6 M60i xDrive
feature bespoke double bars and an M logo for the BMW kidney grille, M
exterior mirror caps in Black high-gloss and M quad-pipe style exhaust
tailpipe trim. The new BMW X6 M60i xDrive also has a rear spoiler in
Black high-gloss.

The optional M Sport Pro pack features the BMW Iconic Glow
kidney grille, Shadowline headlights, Extended Shadowline trim, an M
Sport braking system with red brake callipers, M Sport exhaust
(standard on eight-cylinder models, not available for the BMW X5
xDrive50e) and M Sport seat belts.

The new M Marina Bay Blue metallic and M Isle of Man Green
metallic are exclusive to the BMW X5 M60i xDrive and BMW X6 M60i
xDrive respectively. All models can be ordered in one solid and seven
metallic colours, with the latter including new Blue Ridge Mountain,
Brooklyn Grey, Skyscraper Grey and Frozen Pure Grey shades. There’s
also a choice of four BMW Individual paint finishes.

Customers can also choose from around 40 BMW Individual special
paintwork shades, including metallic variants such as Atlantis and
Velvet Blue, as well as solid or matt finishes. These exclusive paint
options are meticulously applied by hand with the spectrum of colours
expanding all the time.

Exceptional comfort twinned with optimum
practicality
The new BMW X5 combines outstanding
travelling comfort over long distances with a high level of
versatility. The BMW X5 xDrive30d can be specified with a third row of
seats as an option. The capacity of the load area can be expanded from
650 litres to a maximum 1,870 litres (BMW X5 xDrive50e: 500 – 1,720
litres). A two-section split tailgate enables easy loading of items
into the boot. Rear-seat passengers of the BMW X6 also enjoy excellent
long-distance comfort. With all five seats occupied, the boot still
offers 580 litres of load capacity behind the high-opening tailgate.
By utilising the 40 : 20 : 40 split/folding rear-seat backrest, the
load compartment can be expanded to 1,530 litres.

Fully digital BMW Curved Display with intuitive touch
control
The BMW Curved Display is at the heart of the
interior redesign for the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6. It is made up of
a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a
14.9-inch control display, both located behind a single glass surface.
The touch control functionality of the BMW control display offers a
significant reduction in the number of buttons and controls. The
automatic climate system is now operated via permanently displayed
control graphics on the BMW Curved Display.

Instrument panel now as standard with Sensafin surfacing and
highly effective light bar
The newly designed
instrument panel with surfacing in leather-like Sensafin (now
standard) highlights the interior’s premium feel. The central air
vents are extremely slim and integrated into the instrument panel
almost out of sight. BMW X5 M60i xDrive and BMW X6 M60i xDrive models
add an extra touch of elegance with a broad, curving trim element in
standard fine wood or Fineline Black metal effect.

Also new is the ambient light bar with crystalline surface
structure and LED backlighting integrated below the trim element in
the front passenger area. The relevant model lettering – “X5” or “X6”
– is added to the light bar’s graphic; in the two flagship models it
displays the M logo.

The light distribution, brightness and colour for the interior
illumination can be configured via the iDrive menu with a choice of 15
colours. The light bar now steers the brightening of the interior
illumination as the driver approaches the car, dimming from back to
front in a flowing movement when they lock it. It also signals an
incoming telephone call with a dynamic chaser light. The ambient
lighting system’s range of functions also includes the Welcome Light
Carpet – which projects an eye-catching image onto the ground when the
doors are unlocked or opened – and pulsating light signals on the
inner panelling of an open door when the engine is running.

Control panel in the centre console with new selector
lever
With additional touch-sensitive surfaces, the new
centre console control panel includes the iDrive Controller,
Start/Stop button, electric parking brake, and settings for optional
air suspension and off-road modes. Also here are the Driving
Experience Control buttons and the new gear selector lever.

Standard sport seats in new Sensafin trim
The
standard front sport seats in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 offer
outstanding lateral support. They are heated, feature lumbar support
and offer electric adjustment options for height, seat angle, backrest
angle and backrest width, including a memory function on the driver’s
side. Cushioned knee pads on the sides of the centre console bring
additional sporting appeal to the interior of the BMW X6.

The seat surfaces in standard Sensafin trim can be ordered in a
choice of three colours. With their high-quality, vegan material
properties, bold quilting and decorative perforation, they offer
enhanced seating comfort. Four BMW Individual Merino extended leather
upholstery and three BMW Individual full Merino leather upholstery
variants are optional. Active seat ventilation and massage functions
are available as part of the Comfort Plus Pack.

Standard Comfort Pack, standout options
The new
Comfort Pack includes seat heating for the outer rear seats and a Heat
Comfort package, which brings heating for the steering wheel,
driver/front passenger door armrests and centre console. The “thermo”
function for the cup holders keeps drinks cool or warm as required.

The optional Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof generates an
exclusive aura when darkness falls, with LED light spreading evenly
across the glass surfaces to illuminate more than 15,000 graphic
patterns and generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky.

With its 16 speakers and 415-watt amplifier, the optional Harman
Kardon surround sound system further enhances the on-board acoustic
experience. Meanwhile, the optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond
Surround Sound System with 20 speakers and 1,500-watt amplifier lays
on a particularly impressive listening experience.

More power, more electric range: BMW X5 xDrive50e with new
plug-in hybrid drive system
A straight-six petrol
engine joins forces with an electric drive unit in the new BMW X5
xDrive50e to produce 490hp (including temporary boost effect) – an
increase of 96hp over the outgoing model – and combined torque of
700Nm (+100Nm).

The latest incarnation of the 3.0-litre straight-six engine with
BMW TwinPower Turbo technology uses the Miller cycle, shortening the
opening time of the intake valves. This unit also features redesigned
combustion chambers and intake ports, a new dual injection system, an
ignition system with active coil and a cylinder head with integrated
exhaust manifold. The petrol engine’s nominal output of 313hp
represents an increase of 27hp on the unit it replaces, with torque
peaking at 450Nm.

The electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic
Sport transmission on the new BMW X5 xDrive50e boasts an increased
power density in excess of 5.0kW/kg. The new synchronous motor
produces 197hp (+84hp) while the upper rev limit has been raised to
11,500rpm. Off the line, the new BMW X5 xDrive50e takes just 4.8
seconds to reach 62mph from rest.

The motor draws its energy from a high-voltage lithium-ion
battery integrated into the underbody, a product of fifth-generation
BMW eDrive technology. The battery can store 25.7kWh of usable energy,
an increase of almost 25 per cent compared with the preceding
generation. A new Combined Charging Unit supports both single-phase
and three-phase charging, doubling the maximum AC charging rate to
7.4kW. The electric motor’s efficiency and the system of intelligent
energy management, including adaptive recuperation, results in an
electric range of 58 – 68 miles* in the WLTP cycle.

Latest-generation 48V mild-hybrid technology for all petrol
and diesel engines
48V mild-hybrid technology enhances
the power delivery in all petrol and diesel variants of the new BMW X5
and BMW X6. All combustion engines are now combined with a new
eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission featuring an electric motor
in its compact housing, generating a boost of up to 12hp and 200Nm of
torque. The mild-hybrid system can be used for driving purely on
electric power at very low speeds in the BMW X6 xDrive40i.

The energy required for the electric power boost is stored in a
48V battery located in the engine compartment. It is charged during
overrun and braking by means of adaptive recuperation.

Newly developed 530hp 4.4-litre V8 engine for the two BMW M
models
The range-topping BMW X5 M60i xDrive and BMW X6
M60i xDrive are powered by a newly developed V8 petrol engine. The
4.4-litre power unit can trace its genes to renowned BMW M and racing
machines and utilises the thermodynamic benefits of a cross-bank
exhaust manifold, bank-symmetrical turbochargers and external engine
oil cooling. The engine teams up with the 48V mild-hybrid technology
to generate 530hp and 750Nm, allowing the new BMW M models to sprint
from 0 to 62mph in 4.3 seconds. The standard M Sport exhaust system
provides a rich, sporting soundtrack.

More power, lower emissions: new six-cylinder in-line petrol
engine for the BMW X6 xDrive40i
The power unit of the
new BMW X6 xDrive40i is part of a new generation of six-cylinder
in-line engines. The 3.0-litre unit’s 380hp is up by 47hp compared
with its predecessor, while peak torque rises by 70Nm to 520Nm – and
can be boosted to 540Nm with the mild hybrid system. It enables the
new BMW X6 xDrive40i to sprint from 0 to 62mph in 5.4 seconds.

This engine also benefits from innovations in the combustion
process, camshaft control, injection, ignition system and exhaust gas
routing, plus the latest VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control.

BMW X5 xDrive30d and BMW X6 xDrive30d with updated
six-cylinder in-line diesel engine
Upgrades to the
six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the new BMW X5 xDrive30d and BMW
X6 xDrive30d have also yielded improvements to fuel economy and
emissions. New steel pistons enable higher combustion pressures, while
the oil separation process and common-rail direct injection system
have also been enhanced. These innovations combine with the 48V mild
hybrid technology to develop a maximum 298hp and peak torque of 670Nm,
enabling 0 to 62mph in 6.1 seconds.

New eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with Launch
Control and Sprint function
The latest-generation eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission
fitted as standard in the new BMW X5 and BMW X6 comes with a host of
innovations over and above the electric motor integrated into its
housing. The unit’s internal efficiency, vibration damping and shift
timing have all been optimised, while shift characteristics are now
adapted to the Driving Experience Control switch setting.

As well as gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, the
eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission also adds a Launch Control
function. In eight-cylinder and M Sport models, drivers will also be
able to make use of the Sprint function for a quick burst of speed.

BMW xDrive with rear-wheel-drive bias
BMW xDrive
intelligent all-wheel drive maximises traction, agility and
directional stability in the new BMW X5 and BMW X6. The rear-biased
approach preferred by the xDrive system underscores the sporty driving
attributes of both models. In the new BMW X5 M60i xDrive and BMW X6
M60i xDrive, this set-up and the M Sport rear differential combine to
deliver exceptional performance.

Adaptive M suspension standard on M Sport versions
Adaptive M suspension is fitted as standard on all M
Sport models. Electronically controlled dampers refine handling
dynamics as well as primary ride comfort. The dampers respond
adaptively both to road surface conditions and to driving style. The
driver can choose between a comfort-focused mode and a stiffer damper
setting for a sportier experience.

Ride height adjustment at the touch of a button or by
smartphone
For off-road driving, the optional air
suspension (standard on BMW X5 xDrive50e) allows the vehicle body to
be raised by 20 or 40mm (depending on vehicle speed) at the press of a
button, or lowered by up to 40mm when stationary for easier loading.
This can be activated from the driver’s seat, a button built into the
tailgate or, for the first time, via the My BMW App.

The optional xOffroad package for straight-six models includes
adaptive two-axle air suspension, the M Sport differential and four
driving modes tailored to the conditions: xSnow, xSand, xGravel and xRocks.

Integral Active Steering for greater agility, comfort and
manoeuvrability
Integral Active Steering is standard on
the eight-cylinder models and an option for all others. With the
system, the rear wheels are turned in either the same or opposite
direction to the front wheels, depending on road speed. The rear
wheels can now be turned by up to three degrees almost until the car
is at a standstill, further reducing its turning circle.

Adaptive M suspension Pro with active roll
stabilisation
Another option available for all variants
except the BMW X5 xDrive50e is the adaptive M suspension Pro. This
package comprises not just M-specific dampers, Integral Active
Steering and the M Sport differential, but also an active roll
stabilisation system.

Integrated braking system, light-alloy wheels up to 22 inches
in size
The new BMW X5 and BMW X6 are fitted as

stitching for both the driver and front passenger seats. The edging on
both the front and rear floor mats is also finished in red and inside
the BMW X5 Black Vermilion, the red accents are also to be found on
the rear seats.

On top of the Edition’s standard equipment, customers will have
the option to select from a number of optional extras, including
Comfort Pack which offers comfort access, front and rear heated seats

Awards 2021 • 3 Series, 4 Series & 5 Series all successful, alongside BMW X5 and X6 • Nine ‘Best Buy’ category wins for BMW and a further two for MINI</pp:summary>

BMW has kicked off 2021 by scooping an impressive number of wins at
the 43rd annual What Car? Awards.

The BMW 3 Series, 4 Series and 5 Series were all recognised, as
were the BMW X5 and X6, with a further nine awards for a range of
models across the Best Buy categories, where MINI also snapped up two awards.

The BMW 330e secured the highly coveted Executive Car of the
Year award, to add to the seven industry awards already collected in 2020.

Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car?, said “The latest 3 Series
has been our favourite executive car ever since it went on sale, but
the specific magic of the plug-in hybrid 330e is in being all things
to all drivers. It can run for up to 36 miles on electric power alone,
which is enough for most commutes, but it's also great at shrugging
off long motorway trips and displays an agility and sense of fun in
corners that no rival can match”.

The recently launched BMW 4 Series won Coupé of the Year, with
Huntingford praising the vehicle’s “perfectly balanced take on the
dual nature that makes for a world-class sports coupé”, while the BMW
530e was named the title’s Luxury Car of the Year.

The BMW X5 xDrive 45e and X6 xDrive 30d were also successful,
winning Luxury SUV of the Year and Coupé SUV of the Year respectively.
Impressed with the X5 for its hybrid credentials, Huntingford
commented, “When choosing a plug-in hybrid, it goes without saying
that you want economy and cost-effectiveness, but if you don’t want to
compromise on the finer things in life, the X5 xDrive45e is right up
your street”.

Huntingford also praised the BMW X6 for being class leading,
writing “without the X6, it’s doubtful the coupé SUV class would even
exist, and the latest version moves the game on again”.

The honours continued with BMW securing nine Best Buy wins
across its range of models, including Best Family Car Interior for the
BMW 1 Series, Best Plug-in Hybrid to Drive for the BMW 330e and Best
Estate Car to Drive for the BMW 3 Series Touring. The BMW 5 Series
Touring was recognised as Best Estate Car Interior, BMW 4 Series took
home Best Performance Car for Value and the BMW iX3, the brand’s first
fully electric SUV, took home Best Large Electric SUV.

Numerous BMW SAV models were also recognised, with the BMW X7
winning Best Luxury SUV for big families, Best Plug-in Hybrid interior
for the BMW X5 and the X3 winning Best Sports SUV for families.

MINI also enjoyed another successful year, securing two Best Buy
wins: Best Small Car Interior and Best Convertible for Value for the
MINI 3-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible.

Remarking on the win, Huntingford said “The latest MINI
Convertible is one of the most affordable drop-tops you can buy but,
crucially, it still feels every inch the premium product. Its interior
is a particular highlight, because it’s packed with fashionable
touches and there are quality materials everywhere you look. What's
more, with the roof down but the windows up, you’re well isolated from
wind bluster”.

The MINI Convertible remains the number one selling Convertible
in the UK, with 3,416 sold in 2020.

signature attributes of a 4x4 with the DNA of a classical coupe, and a
new category of car was born: the Sports Activity Coupe.

For early adopters the first BMW X6 - as founder member of this
new type of car - was a revelation. Combining the benefits of a
high-riding, all-wheel-drive 4x4 with a slick, edgy design, it
captured the imagination of those who just wanted something a bit
different and, with sales of 443,000 units worldwide across two model
generations, its success has been undeniable.

Now, with a refreshed design, advanced powertrain and chassis
technology, top-class equipment features, dynamic handling and an
innovative operating tech and driver assistance systems, the new X6
looks set to deliver once again.

The new BMW X6 celebrated its world premiere at the IAA Cars
2019 international motor show in Frankfurt in September. The market
launch will follow in December 2019.

Exterior
The new BMW X6 is 26mm longer than the outgoing model (to
4,935mm) and 15mm wider (to 2,004 mm) in width. It stands 6mm lower
(at 1,696mm) with a wider front track (+44mm to 1,684 mm). The car’s
wheelbase has increased by 42mm to 2,975 millimetres, and the new
model also has a lower centre of gravity than its predecessor.

Premiere for illuminated BMW kidney grille
For the first time the new BMW X6 is available with an optional
illuminated BMW kidney grille, which is activated by opening or
closing the car. The driver can switch it on and off manually and can
also function during a journey.

Adaptive LED headlights are standard while the optional BMW
Laserlight optimises the non-dazzling high beam function, whose range
increases to around 500 metres.

The new BMW X6 comes as standard with 19-inch light-alloy wheels
on Sport trim lines and 21-inch wheels on M Sport models. The BMW X6
M50i and BMW X6 M50d come with 22-inch light-alloy wheels as standard.

Three model variants
The new BMW X6 is available from launch in three model variants:
Sport, M Sport and M Performance. Standard equipment on the Sport
version includes Adaptive two-axle air suspension, a Sport leather
steering wheel and aluminium detailing. The M Sport model is distinct
in that it features a dynamic design angle to the front and rear
aprons. It also features the side window graphic in High-gloss Black,
wheel arch trim painted in body colour, an M Sport exhaust system and
M Sport brakes with blue-painted callipers. From start of production,
M carbon exterior mirror caps and a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic
rear spoiler are available as optional extras.

The M Sport also adds the aerodynamics package along with the M
Sport steering wheel and M-specific pedals. It also includes the BMW
Individual high-gloss Shadow Line, exclusive Aluminium Tetragon
interior trim strips and an anthracite BMW Individual headliner.
Interior trim strips in M Carbon Fibre are available as an option.

The M Performance model adds M Bicolour Cerium grey exterior
trims, M Sport differential, Adaptive M suspension, M Seat belts and a
Harman Kardon surround sound system.

For even more personalisation high-quality options from BMW
Individual include 22-inch BMW Individual light alloy wheels. Extended
BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim completes the BMW
Individual offering.

Interior and equipment
Along with the high driving position, the interior of the X6 has
been designed to give the driver the best possible overview of the
road ahead and, thanks to the use of selected materials, it offers
unbeatable build quality.

The new BMW X6 comes as standard with Vernasca leather
upholstery, while extended BMW Individual Merino leather trim is on
the options list. The standard sports seats in the new BMW X6 are
electrically adjustable and heated. Multifunction seats – with a
choice of features such as seat ventilation and massage function for
the driver and front passenger – can be specified as an option. The
model-specific kneepads on the centre console now have a new design,
and special door pulls are also included.

The new BMW X6 offers a high degree of variability. The 40:20:40
split rear seat backrests can be folded down to increase boot capacity
from 580 to 1,525 litres.

Standard specification for the new BMW X6 includes 2.5-zone
automatic climate control, while a four-zone system can be ordered as
an option. Also available as an option is the Ambient Air package,
which refreshes the air inside the car by ionisation and allows the
driver to choose from eight selectable interior fragrances. Another
innovation is the newly developed panoramic glass roof, whose clear
surface is around 83 per cent larger than on the outgoing model. The
optional Panorama glass roof ‘Sky Lounge’, features more than 15,000
graphic patterns in the glass roof to generate a display reminiscent
of a starlit sky. Six colours are available for the illumination of
both the Panorama glass roof and Sky Lounge.

The BMW X6 comes as standard with ambient lighting, which
includes the Welcome Light Carpet. This feature illuminates the
approach to the doors when they are unlocked or opened, enhancing
comfort and safety when getting in and out of the car. Thermoelectric
cup holders integrated into the front section of the centre console to
keep drinks containers cool or warm can be ordered as an option within
the Comfort or Comfort Plus packages.

Customers can specify optional glass applications for selected
controls, including the transmission selector lever, the iDrive
Controller, the start/stop button and the audio system’s volume
control. The optionally available Bowers & Wilkins Diamond
Surround Sound System via the Technology package comprises a
seven-channel amplifier with 1,500-watt output and 20 speakers while
telephony with wireless charging option allows compatible mobile
phones to be charged wirelessly in the tray positioned ahead of the
cup holders.

Engines
The line-up of engines from launch includes two petrol units and
a pair of diesel variants from the latest generation. Topping the X6
range is the BMW X6 M50i powered by a newly developed petrol V8, while
the BMW X6 M50d features a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine and four
turbochargers. The BMW X6 xDrive40i and BMW X6 xDrive30d are powered
by a straight six petrol and straight-six diesel respectively, while
all models come as standard with an eight-speed Steptronic
transmission and the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

Maximum power for the BMW X6 xDrive30d is at 265hp while peak
torque is 620Nm. The zero to 62mph benchmark sprint is achieved in 6.5
seconds with a top speed of 143mph. The xDrive 30d will achieve an
average fuel consumption of 42.8-46.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 172-159g/km.

The BMW X6 xDrive40i delivers a maximum output of 340hp with a
peak torque of 450Nm and that enables a zero to 62mph benchmark sprint
of 5.5 seconds with a top speed limited to 155mph. Combined fuel
consumption is between 32.8-35.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 197-181g/km.

The range-topper in the diesel line-up is the 400hp BMW X6 M50d
with a whopping 760Nm peak torque. It’ll take 5.2 seconds to get to
62mph and its top speed it set at 155mph. Average fuel consumption is
39.2-40.9mpg with CO2 emissions of 190-181g/km.

The flagship BMW X6 M50i delivers 530hp with peak torque at
750Nm while the flap-controlled M Sport exhaust system fitted as
standard produces an exhilarating soundtrack to match the engine’s
prodigious power delivery. The eight-cylinder unit’s standout features
include the pair of twin-scroll turbochargers nestled in the 90-degree
angle between the two banks of cylinders. It needs just 4.3 seconds to
sprint from zero to 62mph and its combined fuel consumption ranges
between 26.4-27.2mpg while combined CO2 emissions come in at 243-237g/km.

* All figures relating to performance, fuel consumption and emissions
are provisional.

BMW xDrive: maximises traction, agility and directional
stability
In particularly dynamic driving situations,
the intelligent all-wheel-drive system has a rear-wheel bias. In
situations that do not require all-wheel drive, power can be
channelled entirely to the rear wheels in the interests of efficiency.
The car’s sporting attributes are aided by the electronically
controlled M differential lock at the rear axle available either
individually as an option or as part of M Sport specification to
deliver exceptional handling. Added to which, the controlled locking
function for the rear differential maximises traction and increases
the car’s ability to put down its power on rough ground. A feature of
the optional xOffroad package, it also optimises traction on roads
where grip levels vary between the right and left rear wheels by
preventing a wheel with insufficient grip from spinning.

Top-class dynamics, comfort and off-road ability
The new X6 comes as standard with Dynamic Damper Control, which
not only helps to deliver a comfortable ride, but also enhances the
car’s dynamic characteristics. The driver can use the Driving
Experience Control switch to select either of two settings placing the
emphasis on a sporting or comfort-biased driving experience.

The Adaptive M suspension Professional with active roll
stabilisation and Integral Active Steering not only improves agility
and directional stability when turning into corners but helps optimise
traction when accelerating away too. The roll stabilisation system on
the new BMW X6 also increases straight-line driving comfort by
actively countering the vibrations triggered by bumps on one side of
the road. The electromechanically operated Integral Active Steering is
also available as an individual option. By turning the rear wheels in
either the same direction as or the opposite direction to the fronts,
depending on the road speed, it lends itself to more nimble cornering,
effortless lane changes and darting through city traffic. Integral
Active Steering makes light work of manoeuvring into and out of tight
parking spots, while also increasing directional stability when
overtaking at motorway speeds.

The new BMW X6 is available with two-axle air suspension
including automatic self-levelling. Thanks to the link up with the
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, the vehicle load registered by
the air suspension’s sensors can also be factored into braking. The
car’s height can be altered at the touch of a button in the cockpit
and the driver can choose from five different modes. For example, the
driver is also able to adjust the body’s ground clearance for off-road
driving to a maximum 40mm above the standard setting. Another button
lowers the car by 40mm below the default height in preparation for
loading or unloading items. The height of the X6 above the ground can
therefore be varied through up to 80mm making it significantly easier
to get in and out of the car and to load and unload items from the
boot. The desired vehicle ride height can also be set with the engine
switched off and using the optional BMW Display Key.

The new BMW X6 is offered with an off-road package as an option
and this can be identified by its rugged underguard elements at the
front end. The xOffroad package includes two-axle air suspension and
an electronically controlled rear differential lock to offer four
driving modes: snow, sand, gravel or rocks. At the press of a button,
drivers can activate the ideal settings for the vehicle’s ride height,
the xDrive system, the transmission control and the DSC system’s
corrective inputs. Accelerator response also adapts to the driving
mode selected.

The M50i: an exemplar of performance and handling superiority
The range topping M50i is fitted as standard with an M Sport
differential, along with Adaptive M suspension, which includes Dynamic
Damper Control and air suspension with automatic self-levelling at the
rear axle. The electromechanical power steering of the new BMW X6 M50i
has an M-specific configuration and allows the driver to choose
between two settings. The new BMW X6 M50i is fitted as standard with
22-inch twin-spoke light-alloy wheels in Cerium Grey.

The exterior looks of the new BMW X6 M50i are shaped by
aerodynamically optimised body components including a front apron with
large air intakes and a rear apron with body-coloured diffuser insert.
The BMW kidney grille, the horizontal trim elements in the air intakes
and the exterior mirror caps are painted in Cerium Grey, and the model
badge at the rear and exhaust tailpipes adopt the same colour. The new
BMW X6 M50i comes as standard with black sports seats in Vernasca
leather trim and an M Sport leather steering wheel. The illuminated
kidney grille is also available as an option for the X6 M50i.

Driver assistance systems
Standard specification for the new BMW X6 includes Cruise
Control with braking function as well as Collision and Pedestrian
Warning with City Braking function that alerts the driver when a
cyclist is detected. Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go
is available as an option. This system dictates that the maximum time
that can pass between the car stopping and setting off again
automatically is now 30 seconds, making the driver’s life that extra
bit more comfortable. The speed limits detected by the Speed Limit
Info traffic sign recognition system including No Passing Info display
can be incorporated into the system’s automatic speed modulation, with
a pre-set adjustment of up to 9mph.

The Driving Assistant Professional is offered as an option for
the new BMW X6 and this package of safety- and comfort-enhancing tech
includes both the steering and lane control assistant with Traffic jam
assistant and lane keeping assistant with active side collision
protection. With the steering and lane control assistant activated,
the driver can make use of the Lane Change Assistant on motorways and
dual carriageways. To change lanes the driver simply has to push the
indicator stalk in the required direction and the system will steer
the car into the next lane safely. Another component of the Driving
Assistant Professional is the Evasion Assistant (which now also reacts
to pedestrians), rear collision warning, road priority warning and
wrongway driving warning systems. The package also includes crossing
traffic warning and Lane Change Warning, which in its latest version
now also provides active steering inputs to bring the vehicle back
into the intended lane.

The Driving Assistant Professional also features Emergency Stop
Assistant which can be activated by pulling the electric parking brake
switch in situations where the driver is, for medical reasons, no
longer able to drive the car. Depending on the driving situation and
the vehicle’s surroundings, the Emergency Stop Assistant will bring
the vehicle safely to a standstill either in the current lane, at the
edge of the road or on the hard shoulder. Any necessary lane-change
manoeuvres can be performed automatically when travelling at 43-62mph.
At the same time, the Emergency Stop Assistant activates the hazard
warning lights and the Intelligent Emergency Call function that
automatically notifies a call centre so the emergency services can be alerted.

Parking Assistant
Standard equipment includes not only Park Distance Control (PDC)
incorporating a rear-view camera and front and rear sensors, but also
the Parking Assistant for automatically selecting and manoeuvring into
spaces parallel to the road. The Parking Assistant’s range of
functions includes the reversing assistant, which helps the driver
when exiting parking spaces and manoeuvring within a confined space
such as in multi-storey car parks. To do this, it stores the steering
movements for any section the car has just driven forward along at no
more than 22mph. The system is then able to reverse the vehicle for
distances of up to 50 metres by steering it along the same line it
took when moving forward while all the driver has to do is operate the
accelerator and brake pedals and monitor the area around the car. The
reversing assistant can back the car up at a maximum of 5.5mph. The
steering movements along the line the car has just taken when moving
forward are stored for an extended period, so the reversing assistant
can offer the driver the convenience of backing their car out of a
parking space they drove into the day before.

The optional Parking Assistant Plus adds such features as Top
View, Panorama View and 3D View functions to create a 360-degree image
of the vehicle and its surroundings.

Drive Recorder
As part of the optionalTechnology Package, the Drive Recorder
feature is included. This function uses the cameras of the driver
assistance systems to record video footage from different points
around the vehicle, before storing the recordings so they can be
either watched later on the Control Display when the car is stationary
or exported via the USB port. Recordings can be up to 40 seconds in
length, comprising the 20 seconds of video saved immediately prior to
the Drive Recorder being activated and the next 20 seconds. The Drive
Recorder can be started at any time from the iDrive menu. In the event
of a collision, the 20 seconds up to the moment of impact and the next
20 seconds are automatically recorded and saved.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant
The new BMW X6 comes with the BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant, an intelligent digital character who responds to the prompt
“Hey BMW”. It helps the driver, learns their habits and is familiar
with their favoured settings – e.g. for the seat heating or the places
they drive to frequently using the navigation system. One unique
feature compared with other digital assistants of this type is the
option of giving the system a name that’s personal to the driver.

The BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant is also an
entertainment expert, too. For example, it can quickly seek out
suitable radio stations for the desired music genre.

The range of functions and skills available will be constantly
expanded as part of updates, which can be carried out seamlessly on a
smartphone and in-car by Remote Software Upgrade.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is included as standard
in the new BMW X6 – along with the Live Cockpit Professional – as part
of the new BMW Operating System 7.0.

BMW Operating System 7.0
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the new BMW X6 combines a
new display and operating concept. It includes a high-resolution
instrument cluster behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of
12.3 inches and a 12.3-inch Control Display. This BMW Live Cockpit
Professional also features an adaptive navigation system and a
hard-drive-based multimedia system, along with two USB ports plus
Bluetooth and WiFi.

The car’s built-in SIM card provides gives the driver access to
vehicle apps such as news, weather, office and online search and
allows the navigation system’s maps to be updated regularly. It also
enables use of Intelligent Emergency Call, which automatically summons
swift assistance in an emergency.

The latest generation of the display and operating system offers
fully digital displays and is geared even more closely to the driver’s
personal needs with the aim of offering more capacity for
personalisation. In the main menu on the Control Display, the driver
is able to create and configure up to ten pages, each showing two to
four pads (tiles) with live content. Depending on the situation, the
driver can choose from the iDrive Controller, the steering wheel
controls, the Control Display’s touch control, voice control and BMW
gesture control.

As part of BMW Live Cockpit Professional the new BMW X6 includes
a host of connected services as standard, Emergency Call and
Teleservices for the lifetime of the vehicle, Over-the-air and USB map
updates, BMW App connectivity and Intelligent Voice assistants. In
addition to this we see the introduction of the BMW Connected Package
Professional as standard. This features services drivers are
accustomed to, such as Remote Services, Real Time Traffic Information,
with the addition of Concierge Services, Apple CarPlay Preparation,
On-Street Parking Information, Connected Navigation and Intelligent
Vehicle Functionality, which learns driver’s habits and learns rules.
These services are included for three years from build and are
renewable via the ConnectedDrive Store thereafter.

The smartphone as digital key
Using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, customers can
lock and unlock their car using their smartphone. Accessible via the
BMW Connected app, the driver can hold selected smartphones up to the
door handle and open the car. The engine can then be started as soon
as the phone has been placed in the wireless charging or smartphone
tray. The BMW Digital Key can be shared with up to five other people.

Remote Software Upgrade
Upgrades can be loaded onto a smartphone via the BMW Connected
app when connected to a domestic WiFi network or imported directly via
the BMW’s built-in SIM card, which happens automatically for important
vehicle upgrades.

The new BMW X6 is available to order now with prices starting
from £59,340 OTR.

Munich. This September, the Frankfurt Motor Show will
provide the backdrop for the world premiere of the third-generation
BMW X6 (fuel consumption combined: 10.7–6.1 l/100 km; CO2
emissions combined: 243–159 g/km)*, the car that established the
Sports Activity Coupé segment a good ten years ago. At the event, BMW
will also present a spectacular one-off vehicle with a
Vantablack® VBx2 nanostructure paint finish that highlights
the expressive design language and confident, dominant and muscular
appearance of the new BMW X6 to perfection. This exclusive show car is
the result of a collaboration between BMW and Surrey NanoSystems, the
inventors of the Vantablack technology.

The BMW X6 is the first and only vehicle in the world to feature a
Vantablack VBx2 paint finish. “We turned down numerous requests from
various automobile manufacturers in the past,” explains Ben Jensen,
founder and Chief Technical Officer of Surrey NanoSystems. “It took
the BMW X6 and its unique, expressive design for us to entertain the
idea.” With design highlights like the optional Iconic Glow kidney
grille, distinctive twin headlights and striking taillights, the new
BMW X6 provides fascinating contrasts to offset the Vantablack VBx2
paint finish, which changes the viewer’s visual perception of an
object’s three-dimensional shape.

The human eye perceives Vantablack as two-dimensional.
A surface coated in Vantablack loses its defining features to
the human eye, with objects appearing two-dimensional. This can be
interpreted by the brain as staring into a hole or even a void, making
Vantablack a rather unsuitable vehicle paint finish, as it blots out
virtually all the design details and highlights. For this reason, the
BMW X6 was coated in the VBx2 variant initially developed for use in
architectural and scientific applications. This coating can be sprayed
on and has a one-per-cent total hemispherical reflectance (THR),
meaning it is still considered “super black” while enabling a small
amount of reflection from every angle. Thus, materials painted with it
seem to lose their three-dimensional appearance – as demonstrated
impressively on the BMW X6.

Vantablack: the “blackest black”, developed for aerospace applications.
The name Vantablack has already become synonymous with an entire
range of extremely black coatings and paints such as VBx2. It contains
an acronym of the technology enabling this superior black in its first
two syllables, which stand for Vertically
Aligned Nano Tube
Array, a matrix made out of carbon. Each of these
carbon nanotubes has a length of 14 to 50 micrometres, with a diameter
of 20 nanometres, making it around 5,000 times thinner than a human
hair. As a result, around a billion of these vertically aligned carbon
nanotubes fit into one square centimetre. Any light striking this
surface is almost completely absorbed rather than reflected, and
effectively converted into heat.

This technology was initially developed for coating space-borne
components. As Vantablack can be applied at temperatures from as low
as 430 degrees Celsius, it is suitable for delicate materials such as
aluminium, and optical components coated in Vantablack enable
observation of faint stars and distant galaxies that stray light from
the sun makes difficult to detect. The first generation of Vantablack
introduced by Surrey NanoSystems in 2014 absorbed up to 99.965 per
cent of light, almost completely eliminating reflectance and stray light.

An interview with Ben Jensen, Vantablack inventor and founder
of Surrey NanoSystems.

What was your first thought when you were approached with the
idea of providing the BMW X6 with a Vantablack paint finish?
Ben Jensen: To be honest, we received inquiries from
most of the big-name automotive manufacturers, almost from the day we
launched the original material in 2014, but we’d always said no. This
was also due to the fact that we only had a suitable material once we
came up with VBx2. When we were approached by BMW, we were still quite
hesitant to begin with. But the new X6 looked so incredibly different
that it just felt like a really good fit.

Have your expectations been met?
Jensen: I think it went beyond all our expectations.
The BMW X6 in Vantablack looks absolutely fantastic. We also realised
that it wouldn’t have worked if we’d put on the original material, as
the viewer would have lost all sense of three-dimensionality. VBx2
with its one-per-cent reflectance provides just enough of a hint of
shape. Add to that the contrast between the matt black surface and
details such as the Iconic Glow kidney grille, the headlights and the
windows – everything is just set off beautifully.

Hypothetically speaking, could you imagine Vantablack VBx2
becoming a regular paint finish option for people buying a car in
the future?
Jensen: I think it worked really well on the BMW X6,
because of the size of the car, its distinctive shape, and how
imposing it is. But putting a paint like that on a conventional car
lacking a distinctive design would probably detract from it in some
way. In addition, developing a Vantablack VBx2 car paint durable
enough for daily use is a huge technological challenge.

However, Vantablack already has an important role in advanced
automotive technology …
Jensen: Indeed, the material is now being used more
and more in various types of, laser-based sensor equipment for driver
assistance systems and technologies for autonomous driving, for
instance. That is because incident sunlight can cause a degradation of
performance in these systems as well. A Vantablack coating eliminates
these issues and results in increased safety.

An interview with Hussein Al Attar, Creative Director
Automotive Design at Designworks and the designer responsible for
the new BMW X6.

What does it mean to you that “your” BMW X6 is the first car
in the world to have been chosen for such a project by the makers of Vantablack?
Al Attar: I first heard about Vantablack a few years
ago – and I’ve been absolutely fascinated with the technology ever
since. So, for me personally, this is a big deal. When my colleagues
told me about a possible collaboration some months ago, I was very excited.

What makes the BMW X6 the perfect car for this project?
Al Attar: Internally, we often refer to the BMW X6 as
“The Beast.” I think that says it all. The Vantablack VBx2 finish
emphasises this aspect and makes the BMW X6 look particularly
menacing. Moreover, the BMW X6 has always been the most provocative
and in-your-face model in our portfolio. So why not emphasise this
even further, with a finish that simply captivates the viewer’s
attention? After all, that’s what the BMW X6 has always been about.

But a Vantablack finish makes objects appear two-dimensional.
Doesn’t that render it supremely unsuitable as a car paint,
especially for a car with a design as expressive as the BMW X6?
Al Attar: Yes, there is a certain inherent
contradiction. But that’s exactly what makes this interesting and
explains why the BMW X6 is the perfect car for this project. In
addition, Vantablack VBx2 opens up new possibilities for us as
designers. We often prefer to talk about silhouettes and proportions
rather than surfaces and lines. The Vantablack VBx2 coating
foregrounds these fundamental aspects of automotive design, without
any distraction from light and reflections. I am very proud of how
beautiful the new BMW X6 has turned out, including its bold and
expressive surfaces. But the most remarkable evolution over the
predecessor concerns its proportions. And that is precisely what
Vantablack underscores, albeit in a rather unexpected fashion.

Hypothetically speaking, could you imagine Vantablack VBx2
becoming a regular paint finish option for people buying a car in
the future?
Al Attar: Absolutely. BMW X6 drivers are among our
most extrovert and free-spirited customers. If anyone were to opt for
a Vantablack paint option, it would definitely be a BMW X6 driver.

Third-generation BMW X6 to start in November 2019.
The latest incarnation of the car that established the
innovative and distinctive Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) segment will
have its world premiere at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, from 12 to
22 September. The showroom launch will begin shortly afterwards, in
November 2019. The third-generation BMW X6 employs a precise and
exclusive design language to underscore its confident, dominant
appearance. In addition, its advanced powertrain and chassis
technology combines with numerous innovations to provide a uniquely
sporty yet luxurious driving experience. Like its predecessors, the
new BMW X6 is produced at the BMW plant in Spartanburg in the United States.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

boasts an excellent position in the all-wheel-drive market, a segment
it first entered 30 years ago. Around one in three BMW cars sold
around the world is now equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s success in this segment has been driven
not only by the ever-popular BMW X models but also by all-wheel-drive
models based on the other model series, from the BMW 1 Series to the
BMW 7 Series. Across these model series, a large choice of AWD models
is offered in a wide range of engine versions. At the same time, BMW
continues to refine this technology and take it in new directions. By
offering BMW xDrive in combination with a hybrid drive and with a
front-wheel-drive platform, the company has repeatedly demonstrated
its proficiency in the all-wheel-drive field, proficiency that will
secure BMW’s position at the forefront of this sector well into the
future. Today, BMW offers more than 110 models – of either
transmission type – with BMW xDrive in 12 different model series, as
well as the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car and the compact BMW 225xe
with electrified all-wheel drive.

The focus from day one: traction and dynamics.

BMW’s first foray into the all-wheel-drive market came
with the unveiling of the BMW 325i “Allrad” at the Frankfurt Motor
Show (IAA) in 1985. From the outside, the newcomer didn’t immediately
reveal its inner qualities, so its performance when the journalists
took it out on the test track was even more of an eye-opener. This
very first BMW all-wheel-drive system not only improved traction away
from surfaced roads and in adverse weather conditions, but also made
for more dynamic handling through corners. “The new BMW is the new
champion when it comes to handling,” was the verdict of the testers
from German car magazine Auto Zeitung not long after the first unveiling.

Today, the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system takes
typical BMW driving dynamics to new levels. The current generation of
this system is controlled by the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM)
system, which ensures that xDrive always responds appropriately at the
earliest possible moment, based on reliable sensing and monitoring of
the current driving situation. The interventions may be performed
either entirely by BMW xDrive, or by xDrive in combination with
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Performance Control (DPC).
The resulting fast and precise control of drive power distribution
ensures typical BMW handling characteristics even under extremely
dynamic cornering.

The all-wheel-drive system is biased towards the typical BMW
rear-wheel-drive characteristics. That is to say, on the
all-wheel-drive models a greater share of the drive power is sent to
the rear wheels, even under normal driving conditions. This maintains
the typical BMW precise steering response, with virtually no torque
steer. For crisp turn-in and high tracking stability, the
latest-generation BMW xDrive system starts increasing the amount of
power sent to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a corner,
further enhancing the driving pleasure for which BMW is a byword.

BMW all-wheel-drive technology: continuous evolution since 1985.
The full-time all-wheel-drive system featured on the BMW 325i
“Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent
between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed
differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential
were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the
front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability.
This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was
offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and
including the E46 series).

1991: BMW 525iX.
Three years on, BMW introduced an all-wheel-drive model in the
BMW 5 Series too. For the first time, the power split was now
electronically controlled. The newly developed system featured
multi-plate clutches that allowed the default 36:64 front-to-rear
power split to be varied seamlessly and automatically in line with
driving conditions. Initially a hydraulically controlled multi-plate
clutch was used at the rear axle, but this was later replaced by
electronically controlled selective braking intervention. The system
monitored the driving situation using wheel speed signals from the
Anti-lock Braking System, supplemented by further information about
brake status, engine speed and throttle valve position.

From the outset the all-wheel-drive system of the BMW 525iX was a
class apart. The electronic control system delivered a very fast and
precise response, resulting in safe, neutral handling characteristics
even in difficult driving conditions, such as on wet roads or snow. In
the BMW 5 Series, too, the first all-wheel-drive models were offered
in both Sedan and touring versions.

1999: The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) opens a new chapter.
In the run-up to the new millennium, a highly innovative vehicle
concept from BMW made its sensational debut. The BMW X5, the first
Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), impressed customers with driving
dynamics that were unmatched among other all-terrain vehicles of the
time. The outstanding all-wheel-drive system played a big part in
this. A planetary gear system split the drive power in a ratio of
38:62 per cent between the front and rear wheels, while electronic
control systems such as DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ADB-X
(Automatic Differential Brake) and HDC (Hill Descent Control) ensured
the new BMW X5 was both sporty on the road and equipped to handle
challenging conditions off the beaten track.

In the years following the successful launch of the SAV concept,
there was no let-up in the fast pace of all-wheel-drive development at
BMW. The next year, 2000, a model-specific version of the BMW X5’s
all-wheel drive technology became available for the fourth generation
of the BMW 3 Series.

2003: BMW xDrive makes its debut in the BMW X3 and BMW X5.
Four years on from the debut of the BMW X5 in 1999, BMW kept up
the momentum by launching the SAV concept in a further vehicle
segment. The new BMW X3 was more compact than the BMW X5 and offered
even more agile handling. It set new benchmarks and remained the only
premium model in its class for years to come.

The newly developed BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which was
introduced in the same year in both the BMW X3 and the BMW X5, soon
extended BMW’s lead in the AWD segment. Based on an extremely
fast-acting electronic multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, xDrive
worked in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) to
continuously adapt the drive power split to the current driving
situation. In addition to wheel speed, for the first time the
electronic control system also took into account Dynamic Stability
Control data, for example about steering angle, accelerator position
and lateral acceleration. This is what makes BMW xDrive the world’s
first, and still only, “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system. Unlike
conventional all-wheel-drive systems, which only react when at least
one wheel is already spinning, xDrive is able to detect a risk of
oversteer or understeer at the very first signs, and proactively
corrects this by redirecting the flow of drive power.

In the years that followed, the BMW xDrive intelligent
all-wheel-drive system was fitted not only on the X models but also on
the xDrive versions of the BMW 3 and 5 Series Sedan and Touring
models. By the time the second generation of the BMW X3 was introduced
in 2010, more than 600,000 units of this series had already been sold
worldwide. A little earlier, sales of the BMW X5 – which entered its
second generation in 2006 – had topped the one million mark.

2008: SAC with Dynamic Performance Control and hybrid
drive.
With the two Sports Activity Vehicles now firmly
established in their respective segments, in 2007 BMW went on to
present the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe. Unveiled at the
Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the brand-new BMW X6 elevated the typical
dynamic character of the BMW X models to a new level of intensity. For
the first time, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system was combined
with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which varies the drive power
split between the rear wheels when cornering to ensure unrivalled
agility and stability, even under sudden throttle changes or on
overrun. In 2009, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstrated a further
perfect pairing – between BMW xDrive and hybrid propulsion. Meanwhile,
in the same year, BMW M GmbH added two very special models to its
range of high-performance sports cars. With an M-tuned BMW xDrive
system, including Dynamic Performance Control, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6
M boasted performance that was previously unknown in the
all-wheel-drive market.

2009 also saw the arrival of a new X model, the BMW X1. For many
years to come, the BMW X1 was destined to remain the only vehicle of
its kind in the premium compact segment. Its intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel-drive system, like that of the new BMW X3 (2010), was also
combinable with Performance Control. This system selectively brakes
the wheel on the inside of a turn while simultaneously increasing
engine power, resulting in quick and precise turn-in to corners and
taking the agile handling of both models to new levels.

BMW xDrive also available for other model series.
The steady advance of the BMW X models has been accompanied by
an increase in the number of xDrive versions offered in the other BMW
model series too. Designed to improve cornering agility and precision,
BMW xDrive provides an enhanced driving experience and an optimal
combination of dynamics and comfort. So it was only a matter of time
before this intelligent drive technology made its debut in the BMW 7
Series as well, in 2009. In spring 2012, the first all-wheel-drive
Coupe and Convertible models were then offered in the sporty BMW 6
Series. BMW xDrive can also be specified on the current BMW 3 and 5
Series and, since 2013, on the Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe
models of the new BMW 4 Series.

Driving progress ever forward.
BMW took things forward in the premium mid-sized segment with
the launch of the BMW X4 in 2014. The new Sports Activity Coupe offers
a unique blend of driving enjoyment, sophisticated style and
contemporary practicality. It comes with BMW xDrive as standard and is
available in a wide range of engine versions. In the same year, BMW
also presented the third generation of the BMW X5, the second
generation of the BMW X6, and M Sport versions of both models. BMW
xDrive also made its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This
was a debut with a difference, being the first time BMW had combined
its intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an all-new
front-wheel-drive format.

With the BMW i8, unveiled in 2014, the BMW Group took a bold new step
in new directions – which also extended to the all-wheel-drive system.
This 2+2-seater sports model is powered by a highly advanced plug-in
hybrid drive system that pairs an internal combustion engine driving
the rear wheels with a high-performance electric motor driving the
front wheels.

Focused on the future: BMW xDrive meets BMW eDrive.
BMW’s latest all-wheel-drive models bring technology advances
that are firmly focused on the future of mobility. The BMW i8 was
followed by the international launch of the first production plug-in
hybrid model from the BMW core brand: the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Thanks to
full-time BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive and eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics
technology, this Sports Activity Vehicle mates thrilling and
effortless sporty performance with outstanding efficiency. Intelligent
hybrid power management synchronises the operation of the internal
combustion engine and the electric motor to maximise efficiency at all
times, while also responding perfectly to the driver’s demands. The
drive from the two power units is transferred to the road via the
full-time BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

BMW 7 Series: Integral Active Steering combinable with BMW xDrive.
In September 2015, the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series
makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This high-end
BMW luxury model pioneers groundbreaking innovations on all fronts,
and will be available with BMW xDrive from its market launch in
October. The new luxury sedan will also be the first model to allow
intelligent all-wheel-drive to be combined with Integral Active
Steering – that is to say with passively steering rear wheels.

characterises every car from BMW’s sporty M division is once more
fused with all-roads, all-weathers capability with the introduction of
the second-generation X5 M and X6 M. Compared to the 2009 models which
they succeed, they bring improvements of up to 10 per cent in power,
torque and performance while lowering fuel consumption and CO2
emissions by over 20 per cent.

Both models are powered by a new 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8
engine with two TwinScroll turbochargers. With outputs of 575 hp and
750 Nm, it is the most powerful engine ever developed by BMW for
four-wheel-drive vehicles. It is linked to a newly developed
eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission now featuring
Drivelogic. The cars’ outstanding driving dynamics benefit from
specific tuning by BMW M, while their bespoke interior and exterior
designs blend sportiness, luxury and functionality.

The new M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine: the best of all worlds

The bare figures for the new BMW 4.4-litre V8 engine in the X5 M and
X6 M are impressive enough in themselves, but they tell only half the
story. This new power unit develops its maximum 575 hp – four per cent
more than the engine in the previous models – from 6,000 to 6,500 rpm,
while peak torque of 750 Nm (a gain of 10 per cent) is available from
2,200 to 5,000 rpm. This combination of high-revving capability with
linear, rapid response is thanks to the engine’s innovative M
TwinPower Turbo technologies, which include cross-bank exhaust
manifolds, two TwinScroll turbochargers, direct fuel injection working
at a pressure of up to 200 bar and VALVETRONIC variable valve control.

These technologies, in combination with the newly developed
eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, ensure
performance more than meets the expectations of a car from BMW M while
at the same time demonstrating exceptional fuel efficiency. The X5 M
and X6 M accelerate from 0-62 mph in a supercar-equalling 4.2 seconds,
but in normal road driving they are capable of 25.4 mpg, with CO2
emissions of 258 g/km – reductions of over 20 per cent compared to
the previous models.

The cross-bank exhaust manifold sends two converged streams of
exhaust gas to the TwinScroll turbochargers through four separate
exhaust ducts. The engine features an extremely rigid closed-deck
crankcase which permits the high fuel injection pressures necessary
for it to achieve its impressive power output. A lightweight,
torsionally stiff forged crankshaft with low rotating masses helps to
sharpen the engine’s responses.

Every model from BMW M has to be passed as ‘fit for the
Nordschleife’. The extreme lateral and longitudinal acceleration put
upon cars when lapping the Nurburgring places high demands on an
engine’s oil supply, but sophisticated sump and suction snorkel
geometry ensures that the X5 M and X6 M can generate up to 1.2 g
without problems. Meanwhile, a combination of low- and
high-temperature radiators ensures optimum cooling for the engine
coolant, charge air and engine and transmission oil. Electronically
controlled flaps within the exhaust system help to provide a riche
sporty soundtrack.

The eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic delivers
all the advantages in terms of responsiveness of the M Double Clutch
gearbox in other BMW M models, with the smoothness of a torque
converter automatic. It also allows for a wider spread of gear ratios
to foster greater fuel efficiency, and for the first time in a torque
converter automatic it permits ‘creep on demand’ through the Low Speed
Assistant system. The Drivelogic function allows the driver to
prioritise fuel economy, comfort or sports performance, while gear
changing can be fully automatic or driver-controlled via paddles on
the steering wheel. A Launch Control function is fitted to permit
perfect standing starts.

The xDrive four-wheel-drive system is fully flexible in the way it
distributes torque to each axle, to ensure maximum traction on all
roads and in all weathers. Normally the bias is towards the rear to
give the X5 M and X6 M maximum agility, but when the occasion demands,
100 per cent of engine torque can be sent to either axle.

Sports Activity Vehicles with the emphasis on
‘sport’
BMW created the Sports Activity Vehicle sector
with the original X5 and X6, and the new M models are once again the
ultimate expression of the genre. They now deliver improved cornering
force through revisions to the upper front wishbones, which have
increased camber, camber progression and steering pivot axis, while
directional stability has been increased thanks to revised
elastokinematics with more rigid bearings. The X5 M and X6 M feature
firmer suspension tuning than other X5 and X6 models, a 10 mm lower
ride height, Dynamic Drive active roll stabilisation and
self-levelling air suspension at the rear. Dynamic Performance Control
with COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes allows the driver to personalise
the suspension settings at the touch of a button.

Both models feature specially developed mixed tyres to ensure the
maximum steering precision and feedback, traction and lateral and
directional stability. They are fitted as standard with Pirelli P Zero
tyres (285/40 R 20 Y at the front and 325/35 R 20 Y at the rear) on
20-inch light-alloy rims, but 21-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super
Sport UHP tyres (285/35 R 21 Y front; 325/30 R 21 Y rear) are
optionally available.

The steering is an electronically assisted rack and pinion M
Servotronic system with M-specific gearing and tuning. Compared to a
conventional hydraulic steering set-up, it reduces fuel consumption by
0.3 litres per 100 kilometres (62 miles). As with the suspension,
drivers can opt for COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ settings. The
high-performance brakes have been hones in motor sport and feature
six-piston fixed callipers at the front, single-piston floating
callipers at the rear and 50 per cent larger brake linings than those
in the previous models. Weight has been reduced by 1.6 kg, helping to
reduce unsprung masses. The brake callipers are painted in Dark Blue metallic.

The new four-wheel-drive M models now feature an optimised DSC
(Dynamic Stability Control) system which permits an even more dynamic
driving style and includes the additional safety functions Brake
Standby, Brake Drying, Fading Compensation and Start-Off Assistant.
DSC now allows three driving modes – DSC on, in which case the
electronic systems provide maximum help to maintain stability; M
Dynamic Mode (MDM), which allows some mild drifting before the
electronics come to the driver’s assistance; and DSC off, which
intervenes only in the most extreme circumstances.

Sportiness meets luxury in the function-led
design
The exterior design of the new BMW X5 M and X6 M
is purely function-led. The four large air intakes and flaps at the
front and the diffuser at the rear perform essential cooling and
aerodynamic functions, for example, and the same is true of the
M-specific Air Breathers behind the front wheels, which reduce
turbulence in the front wheel arches. Airflow around the cars is so
well managed that both drag and lift are minimised.

From the front, the two cars are identical, but as they stretch
backwards the X5 M demonstrates its sporting practicality and
versatility while the X6 M has the flowing lines of a high-performance
sports coupé. Both have the raised seating position typical of a BMW X
model. The headlights with integrated washer system are borrowed from
the BMW X6, while special flaps in the outer front air intakes –
adapted from those on racing cars – reduce lift. Both cars have
twin-stalk exterior door mirrors with integral indicators. At the
rear, there are body-coloured M aprons and a distinctive four-tailpipe
exhaust – another M hallmark. The X6 M has a spoiler to reduce
rear-axle lift.

The interiors exude sporting luxury. There is an M leather steering
wheel with gearshift paddles, an M gearshift lever, an M Drive menu in
the information display and M Drive buttons on the steering wheel. The
M front sports seats, like the rest of the upholstery, are trimmed in
fine-grain Merino leather with contrast stitching, and there are
embossed M logos. Door sill strips with model lettering, aluminium
interior trim strips and an anthracite-coloured roof liner from BMW
Individual add further touches of sporting exclusivity.

Standard features include Adaptive Dynamic suspension, Adaptive M
suspension, Cruise Control with brake function, Driving Assistant,
Dynamic Stability Control Plus (ABS, ASC, brake drying, brake fade
compensation, brake pre-tensioning, Cornering Brake Contol, Dynamic
Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force
Distribution and Hill-start Assistant), Hill Descent Control, front
and rear Park Distance Control and a rain sensor with automatic
headlight control.

There are 40:20:40 split folding rear seats, electric driver’s seat
adjustment with memory, heated front seats, downlights in the exterior
door handles, High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim (including the roof
rails on the X5 M), metallic paint, a split tailgate with a powered
upper section (for the X5 M), two-zone automatic air conditioning,
front and rear cup holders and courtesy lights, all-round electric
windows with comfort closing, velour floor mats, footwell lights (LED
in the front), a leather-trimmed instrument panel, Aluminium Trace
interior trim with Pearl Grey Chrome finishers, a retractable and
removable luggage cover, four 12-volt power sockets, electric steering
wheel adjustment, green window tinting and an engine start/stop button.

Infotainment is provided by the BMW Professional DAB radio with a
single CD player. There is also a 20GB hard disc drive and a socket
for connecting auxiliary devices. Both cars are also supplied with
Enhanced Bluetooth featuring Voice Control, BMW ConnectedDrive
services (Apps interface, Emergency Call, Online Services,
TeleServices, Information Plus, Real Time Traffic Information and
Remote Services), an M-specific Head- up Display, BMW Professional
Multimedia Navigation and an On-Board Computer.

The BMW X5 M and X6 M arrive in dealerships on 11 April, 2015, and
will be priced at £90,170 and £93,070 respectively.

interpretation of the car’s robust yet sportily elegant styling, a
more luxurious interior, greater versatility, enhanced equipment and
superior performance with up to 22 per cent lower fuel consumption, it
is set to build on the near-250,000 sales of the first-generation model.

The new X6 will go on sale in the UK in December 2014, initially with
a choice of three TwinPower Turbo engines, with one more to follow
after launch. An eight-speed Sport automatic transmission is standard
along with the latest version of BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive system.
The xDrive30d and xDrive50i models are available as SE and M Sport
models, while the M50d will be available as a stand-alone model.

The new BMW X6 reinterprets the Sports Activity Coupé

The original X6 combined the robustness of an SUV, the sporty
elegance of a coupé and the luxury of a limousine and these key
features have been reinterpreted in the new model.

The design characteristics which distinguish any BMW – a long bonnet,
long wheelbase, short front overhang and set-back passenger cell –
remain ever prevalent. In the new X6 they are combined with large
wheel arches, a high window sill, high seating position and a short
distance between the front axle and instrument panel, all of which
highlight its off-road stability. These are complemented by X-shaped
contours in the bumper, matt silver underbody protection and a
powerful double-kidney grille flanked by large twin circular
headlights which turn into the front wings. The robustness of the new
X6 is reinforced at the rear by horizontal lines which appear to
stretch its width, matt silver underbody protection, the surfacing of
the high-opening tailgate and a powerful bumper and flat apron.

Sharp contours emerging from the front wheel arches, one stretching
upwards and finishing at the rear door handles and the other running
downwards then turning back towards the L-shaped rear light units,
assist the coupé-like roofline to emphasise the car’s sportiness.

The interior is plush and luxurious, with rich-looking materials,
including Softskin on the dashboard, instrument surround and upper-arm
trim panels. The standard Fine Brushed Aluminium trim sits atop a
high-gloss black surface, underscored by an accent strip in Pearl Grey
Chrome. The instruments are enclosed within the black panel display,
while a 10.2-inch widescreen display comes as part of the standard BMW
Professional Navigation system. Ambient lighting can be set to blue,
white or orange, or combinations of the three.

All versions have Dakota leather upholstery in a choice of six
colours, a multifunction Sport leather steering wheel with gearshift
paddles. The rear seats are split 40:20:40 as standard to improve the
versatility of the interior. Luggage capacity has been increased by up
to 75 litres to a maximum of 1,525 litres.

Unique design features of the BMW X6 M50d include bespoke contours
for the front apron, larger air intakes, muscular side sill extensions
and a rear apron with diffuser. The kidney grille is Matt Aluminium
fronted with Black vertical slats, there are stainless steel exhausts
with Black Chrome finishers, Ferric Grey exterior mirror caps, M50d
inlays in the door sill finishers and 20-inch M Double-spoke
light-alloy wheels.

More power, lower fuel consumption and enhanced EfficientDynamics

The three TwinPower Turbo engines available at launch maintain BMW’s
tradition of combining even more performance and driving pleasure with
greater efficiency. They deliver higher power outputs with lower fuel
consumption and emissions, aided by additional EfficientDynamics
technologies, a further developed eight-speed Sport automatic
transmission, weight reduction and improved aerodynamics. All engines
meet the EU6 emissions standard thanks, in the case of the diesel
engines, to a NOx absorber catalyst and an SCR catalyst with AdBlue injection.

The 3.0-litre six-cylinder common-rail diesel engine in the xDrive30d
features a single turbocharger with variable inlet geometry. It
develops 13hp and 20Nm more than its predecessor – now 258hp and
560Nm. With peak torque available from 1,500rpm, this translates into
effortless driveability and a zero to 62mph acceleration time improved
by 0.8 seconds to 6.7 seconds. Fuel consumption has been reduced by 15
per cent to a combined 47.1mpg, while CO2 emissions are down to 157g/km.

A diesel engine also powers the M Performance version of the new X6,
the M50d. This 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit features three
turbochargers working harmoniously in a precise multi-stage process
and common-rail injection with piezo injectors, generating up to 2,200
bar pressure. With outputs of 381hp and 740Nm available over a wide
rev range, it delivers the performance typical of an engine developed
by BMW M – zero to 62mph in 5.2 seconds, a reduction of 0.1 seconds –
with greater efficiency. Fuel consumption of 42.8mpg represents a 14
per cent improvement over the previous model, while CO2 emissions come
down to 174g/km thank to the two relatively small turbochargers and a
single large one which dovetail precisely to maintain charge pressure
for instant, lag-free response.

The petrol version available at launch is a further development of
the 4.4-litre V8 for the xDrive50i, which features twin turbochargers
and high-precision direct injection. The power output is increased by
10 per cent to 449hp and torque by 50Nm to 650Nm, which is available
from 2,000rpm. The zero to 62mph time therefore tumbles by 0.6 seconds
to 4.8 seconds, while fuel efficiency improves by 22 per cent. The new
combined economy figure of 29.1mpg is accompanied by CO2 emissions of 225g/km.

Later in 2015 these will be joined by an additional six-cylinder
diesel in the 313hp xDrive40d.

All engines are combined with an eight-speed Sport automatic
transmission which permits the driver to take control using either the
gear selector or paddles on the steering wheel. The transmission now
features Launch Control to maximise traction and acceleration from
standstill, while - in conjunction with the BMW Professional
Navigation system – the car is able to take into account the route
being followed when deciding when to change gear.

Additions to the EfficientDynamics technologies which feature on all
BMWs include a new ECO PRO mode activated via the Drive Performance
Control switch in the centre console. This moderates the engine
management, accelerator response and gearshift programmes to promote a
relaxed, fuel-efficient driving style. It also includes a Proactive
Driving Assistant which advises the driver when to ease off the
accelerator on the approach to corners, junctions or speed-restricted
areas. Auto Start-Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and lightweight
engineering also assist in fuel-saving and efficient driving.

The aerodynamic properties have been enhanced to improve the drag
co-efficient (Cd) to as low as 0.32 for the xDrive30d SE. Detailed
streamlining work includes the addition of BMW’s innovative Aero
Curtain and Air Breathers to reduce turbulence in the front wheel
areas, cooling flaps in the front end which open or close depending on
airflow requirements and optimised airflow over the rear.

Dynamics and comfort taken to a new level

The new X6 takes the dynamism, comfort and safety of the Sports
Activity Coupé to a new level through the latest xDrive
all-wheel-drive system, revisions to the double-wishbone, double-joint
front suspension and patented integral rear axle, and innovative
additions to BMW’s suite of electronic driver assistance features.

The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system now features a lighter
and more efficient transfer case, while by linking up with the car’s
Dynamic Stability Control it is able to sense and adjust the drive
split before wheel slip can occur. The xDrive system also features
torque vectoring, which aids turn-in during cornering by selectively
braking the inside wheels. A new xDrive status feature in the Control
Display informs the driver of body roll and pitch, while a compass
display can also be shown.

Improvements have been made to the suspension, enhancing the X6’s
sporting agility and ride comfort. The car’s directional stability has
been sharpened, tyre noise and suspension weight have been reduced,
there is less friction within the wheel bearings and the optional
trailer coupling now has a fully electric towbar. The BMW X6 can tow
up to 3.5 tonnes and has trailer stability control to prevent swaying.

There are now three adaptive suspension packages available allowing
owners to tailor sports performance and ride comfort precisely to
their requirements. Adaptive M suspension is standard on the M Sport
and M50d models; Adaptive Comfort suspension is optionally available
on SE variants; while Adaptive Dynamic suspension – which includes
Dynamic Performance Control, Dynamic Drive with Active Roll
Stabilisation to curb body roll and a torque-per-axle display – is
available across the range.

Significantly more standard equipment and a greater range of
personalisation features

The new BMW X6 provides far higher levels of standard equipment than
the previous model, while offering customers greater opportunity to
personalise their vehicle. Among the highlights of the new
personalisation options are the Pure Extravagance packages.

Standard equipment additions include: part-electric front seats with
heating, LED ambient interior lighting, Full Black panel display and
Driving Assistant featuring Lane Departure Warning plus Pedestrian and
Collison Warning with Braking. All versions of the X6 also now come
with BMW eCall and Online Services, Bluetooth Hands-free facility with
USB audio interface and Voice Control as well as the BMW Professional
Navigation system, incorporating Real Time Traffic Information.

The Pure Extravagance Exterior Design package adds illuminated
Aluminium door entry sills and Aluminium running boards, Air Breather,
exterior mirror caps, trim, kidney grille and air intakes in Cerium
Grey. Black high-gloss finishers on the B and C pillars and mirror
triangles, a key with Pearl Grey Chrome buttons and Black high-gloss
insert and front and rear stainless steel bumper inserts finish the look.

The Pure Extravagance Interior Design packages add Nappa bi-colour
leather upholstery, in Ivory White and Black or Cognac and Black with
contrast stitching, in Grey or Brown respectively, on the instrument
panel top and upper door armrests. A remote control with Pearl Grey
Chrome buttons completes the package.

The new BMW X6 can be further enhanced through the extensive range of
optional features including: Comfort Access, soft-close doors,
Aluminium running boards, High-gloss Black or Matt Aluminium roof
rails, a Reversing Assist camera with optional Surround-view, an
electric glass sunroof, sun protection glass and sunblinds. The
interior can be optionally specified with ventilated front seats, an
extended storage package, heated steering wheel, four-zone climate
control, BMW Professional rear-seat entertainment and three upgraded
loudspeaker options.

A range of additional safety options are also available and include
Driving Assistant Plus - which automatically maintains the distance to
the car ahead above 19mph - Lane change warning system, Adaptive LED
Headlights, Active Steering, Internet access, Online Entertainment and
Remote Services. Park Assist, Head-up Display and Night Vision with
Dynamic Light Spot are also available.

The new BMW X6 starts from £51,150 OTR for the BMW X6 xDrive30d and
will go on sale on 6 December, 2014.

the BMW X6, will receive an array of design changes and will see the
introduction of the M Performance model the X6 M50d, offering greater
performance, unparalleled emissions and an updated look.

The new BMW X6 includes a number of exterior changes, enhancing the
athletic appearance of BMW’s original SAC. A revised
front end with a wider chrome frame and revised bars on the large
kidney grille and foglights, set towards the edge of the car,
highlight its wide track and stable road-holding. As an
alternative to the standard bi-xenon lights, Adaptive LED headlights,
a modern interpretation of BMW’s twin circular headlights, are
now available as an option complementing the new front end. At
the rear is a revised red light cluster, enhancing the lines of the
car with two horizontal LED Glowing Bars, further emphasising the
width of the vehicle.

This new look BMW X6 is completed by the introduction of three new
metallic paint colours – Orion Silver, Midnight Blue and
Marrakesh Brown – and two new upholstery trims, Ivory White
Exclusive Nappa Leather and Vermilion Red Nevada Leather.

Meanwhile the BMW X6 M and BMW X5 M also receive styling changes with
the addition of Aluminium brake callipers in blue and become the first
BMW models to include Adaptive LED Headlights as standard. In
addition, the BMW X6 M also gains a Powerdome bonnet enhancing its
athletic stance.

The new BMW X6 is available from £46,725 OTR for an X6
xDrive30d, the BMW X6 M is priced from £85,680 OTR and the BMW
X5 M costs from £83,260 OTR and they all go on sale from 16 June 2012.

First models in new Performance range debut

BMW is introducing a new performance range to its UK line-up to
bridge the gap between M Sport variants and the outright M
high-performance models. Devised with the expertise of BMW’s M
GmbH performance division, this new range will deliver greater all
round performance with powertrain and chassis enhancements and
individual styling.

The first models in the new range are the BMW X5 M50d and the
BMW X6 M50d. Powered by a new version of a straight-six
3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel engine, both vehicles offer 381hp and
740Nm of torque. In typical BMW fashion, their high performance
– 0-62mph in 5.4 and 5.3 seconds respectively – is matched
by supreme efficiency as a result of the EfficientDynamics measures
fitted as standard. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions for the X5 M50d are
37.7mpg and 199g/km, while for the X6 M50d they are 36.7mpg and 204g/km.

already an appealing car, but now BMW Performance is offering drivers
the opportunity to enhance its capabilities, tailoring the car’s
features to their own individual, sporting preferences.

BMW Performance components translate BMW’s knowledge from
motorsport and apply it to the road car. They can be added
individually, enabling X6 drivers to set up the car as they wish or
alternatively they may be combined to provide an overall performance package.

The new BMW Performance Aerodynamics kit accentuates the sporting
looks of the BMW X6 by adding a revised body coloured front bumper,
side sills and a rear bumper insert. While an additional rear
spoiler, rear fins in matt black and black high-gloss front kidney
grilles can also be added for an even more striking look.

The addition of BMW Performance light alloy wheels, in Y-spoke
design, further optimise the dynamic driving potential and arresting
looks of the BMW X6. The reduced weight, cast light alloy 21 inch
wheels feature a rolled rim and exclusive bi-colour finish, a glossy
outside and ferric grey paintwork between the rims. Thanks to a
weight saving of approximately 1.5 kilograms, the reduction in
unsprung mass improves the driving dynamics and steering behaviour of
the BMW X6.

From September 2010, BMW Performance will also offer a sports exhaust
system on the BMW X6 xDrive50i and BMW X6 xDrive35i.
Offering a weight reduction and an enhanced sound pattern, the revised
chrome tailpipes reduce exhaust back pressure to increase engine
responsiveness and driving pleasure.

BMW Performance also offers a range of accessories to adapt the
car’s interior to enrich the driving experience. A BMW
Performance Sport steering wheel, with a flat bottom and Alcantara
coating, for optimum grip, are an example of the interior options. For
the ultimate interior upgrade, the cabin can be optimised with the
addition of BMW Performance aluminium pedals.

All BMW Performance components available for the BMW X6 are fully
compatible, wholly comply with BMW’s quality and safety
standards, and fulfil all BMW warranty standards and requirements.

BMW Performance accessories are available from BMW Dealers
nationwide. For more details and to find the nearest dealer

Indeed, the combination of BMW's M philosophy with
this innovative concept paves the way for a truly exclusive driving experience,
both models setting new standards in their class in terms of dynamic
performance borne out by supreme acceleration, lateral dynamics, steering
behaviour, short stopping distances and efficiency, that is all the criteria so
crucial to motorsport.

• The superior driving qualities of the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are clearly
visualised by specific BMW M design: The BMW X5 M offers the convincing look of
power and exclusivity, the BMW X6 M, through its design, reflects outstanding
dynamism and athletic performance. Common design elements at the front of each
model bear clear reference to the dynamic driving potential shared by both
cars, while within the interior a truly luxurious ambience forms a perfect
symbiosis with the cockpit design so typical of a BMW M Model. The fundamental
message in creating the interior design in each case is to reflect the truly
outstanding dynamism of both models in superior style.

• Both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M come with a new V8 high-performance
power unit boasting performance features precisely tailored to the character of
each model. Displacing 4,395 cubic centimetres, the engine delivers maximum
output of 408 kW/555 hp from 5,750-6,000 rpm. The new M TwinPower Turbo engine
is indeed the world's first power unit with a common exhaust emission manifold
joining both rows of cylinders as well as Twin Scroll Twin Turbo Technology.
The turbocharger and the catalytic converters are positioned in the V-section
between the two rows of cylinders ensuring the spontaneous and direct response
so typical of BMW M as well as a linear surge of power for a consistent flow of
torque at all times. As a result, peak torque of 680 Newton-metres or 501 lb-ft
is maintained consistently all the way from 1,500-5,650 rpm.

• Over and above their superior driving dynamics, both models offer by far
the highest level of efficiency in their respective segments. In addition to
the power unit optimised for efficiency by means of ¬High Precision Injection,
proven and newly developed BMW ¬EfficientDynamics technologies serve to ensure
this superiority in practice. These cutting-edge technologies comprise Brake
Energy Regeneration as well as on-demand control of the electrical fuel pump,
the detachable a/c compressor and the volume flow-controlled supply of
hydraulic fluid to the anti-roll system introduced for the first time on the
new BMW 7 Series. And last but not least, both models naturally comply with the
EU5 and, respectively, the LEV II emission standards.

• The M Sports Automatic transmission with six gears, optimised gearshift
dynamics and outstanding gearshift comfort confirms the sporting orientation of
both models. The innovative torque reduction concept is achieved by briefly
cancelling out fuel injection and ignition for extremely short gearshift times.
The driver himself shifts gears either via an electronic gear selector lever
or, if he prefers, through aluminium shift paddles on the steering wheel again
specific to BMW M. At the same time he can spontaneously intervene into the
gearshift process whenever he wishes by operating one of the paddles also in
the D Mode. The Launch Control function for maximum acceleration, in turn, may
also be activated in the M Mode, while in the Power Mode, finally, the driver
may vary the engine and transmission control, using either the Sport or the
Efficiency driving programs.

• Performance and fuel consumption of the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M:
Acceleration 0-100 km/h: 4.7 seconds
Top speed: 250 km/h (155 mph) (275 km/h (171 mph) with optional
M Driver's Package)
Average fuel consumption in the EU cycle: 13.9 litres/100 kilometres
(equal to 20.3 mpg imp), CO2 emissions in the EU cycle: 325 g/km.

• The BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are the first all-wheel-drive models built by
BMW M GmbH, combining BMW xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control with all the
specific requirements and qualities of a high-performance vehicle in typical M
style. The characteristic highlight of both models is their outstanding driving
dynamics combined with supreme driving stability and excellent traction.
Driving pleasure is further enhanced by a level of agility unparalleled in this
segment and the unusually neutral steering behaviour.

• Intelligent all-wheel drive ensures variable distribution of drive power
front-¬to-rear. Dynamic performance control, in turn, varies the distribution
of power between the two rear wheels and allows particularly dynamic
acceleration when leaving a bend. BMW xDrive, Dynamic Performance Control,
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Servotronic and Adaptive Drive are all
coordinated by Integrated Chassis Management (ICM) as the central control unit.
The result is an unusually high standard of driving dynamics and motoring
safety in terms of agility, traction and driving stability.

• The Servotronic steering developed specifically for the BMW X5 M and the
BMW X6 M provides individual steering assistance related to the speed of the
car and varied by two control maps. Substantial steering support at low speeds,
for example, allows comfortable parking manoeuvres, while exact feedback
through higher control forces at higher speeds ensures a superior style of
motoring and greater steering precision when travelling fast. Apart from the
standard configuration of the Servotronic steering, the driver is also able to
call up the Sports Mode by means of the EDC or M Drive button, activating an
uncompromisingly sporting control map for particularly dynamic requirements.

• The suspension with its double-track control arm front axle and the
integral IV rear axle comes with elastokinematics again boasting all the
features of BMW M. Both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M come as standard with air
suspension and self-levelling on the rear axle as well as Adaptive Drive with
electronically adjustable dampers (EDC) and active anti-roll control. The newly
developed three-way support mounts give both the suspension and dampers a
particularly sensitive response, and pressing either the EDC or the M Drive
button the driver is able to choose either the Normal or Sports damper setting
as well as the Servotronic control map. The special configuration of EDC and
anti-roll control tailored again to BMW M ensures a linear build-up of lateral
forces in fast and dynamic bends. And the high-performance brake system in
lightweight technology, to mention yet another example, offers superior
stopping power with virtually no fading and optimum control of the brakes.

• The M Dynamic Mode (MDM) activated by the DSC button raises the control
thresholds for intervention by the brakes and the reduction of engine power and
provides that typical steering behaviour so characteristic of BMW M by shifting
drive power to the rear in the xDrive setting and interacting appropriately
with Dynamic Performance Control. MDM therefore allows maximum speeds in bends
plus unrestricted safety when driving to the extreme. In the process the car
remains absolutely neutral in following the steering, allowing the driver to
take even fast bends in a controlled drift under maximum load in the bend apex.

• Both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M come with a special body structure
designed and built for maximum occupant safety. The occupants are protected
among other things by three-point inertia-reel seat belts on all seats, six
airbags - frontal, side and head airbags - as well as crash-activated headrests
at the front. Bi-xenon dual headlights including a daytime driving light
function, adaptive brake lights and 20-inch light-alloy rims with
different-sized runflat tyres front and rear all come as standard.

• Innovative driver assistance systems raise the superior driving experience
in the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M to an even higher level of perfection. These
systems include, as an option, BMW's Head-Up Display again tailored to BMW M,
Adaptive Headlights, and a High-Beam Assistant. And to supplement Park Distance
Control featured as standard, there is also an optional back-up camera complete
with a Top View function.

• The driver-oriented interior of the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M comes with M
seats, an M leather steering wheel and an M footrest, as well as the M-specific
cockpit including an instrument cluster with a variable pre-warning field in
the rev counter, specific vehicle function displays, and white illumination of
the display units.

• The BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M both feature the latest generation of BMW
iDrive control serving to mastermind the navigation, infotainment, air
conditioning and communication functions as well as the M Drive menu. The
latter - the M Drive menu - comprises the various EDC settings including
Servotronic, DSC, the Power Mode, and the optional Head-Up Display enabling the
user to save his favourite configuration then retrieved by the M Drive button
on the steering wheel.

• High-quality materials and upholstery from the wide range of BMW
Individual, numerous comfort functions and innovative entertainment options all
underline the exclusive, M-specific character of both models. Standard features
include electric seat adjustment complete with a memory function and seat
heating at the front, two-zone automatic air conditioning, the BMW Individual
instrument panel with leather padding, Merino leather covering additional
surfaces and trim features, M entry trim, the M footrest, interior trim bars in
brushed Aluminium Shadow, as well as automatic operation of the tailgate on the
BMW X6 M.

Optional features include the Professional navigation system, the BMW
Individual High End audio system, four-zone automatic air conditioning, the
M-specific Head-Up Display, Merino leather all round, active seat ventilation
as well as a panorama glass roof (BMW X5 M) or, respectively, an electrically
operated glass roof (BMW X6 M). And last but not least, the BMW X5 M is
available with a towbar including an electrically swivelling ball head, while
the BMW X6 M comes as an option with a towbar incorporating a removable ball
head. Maximum trailer load in each case is a significant three tonnes.

Press Contact: Chris Overall
Tel: +447815370990
E-mail: chris.overall@bmw.co.uk

Press Kit,X5,X6,Product,BMW

With a bias towards excellent on-road performance combined
with a dynamic design and a premium interior, the BMW X5 was an instant
success. And it's a winning formula that has, unlike most other models, led to
increasing sales during its lifecycle with the biggest annual UK sales coming
in its penultimate year. The timing of the BMW X5 was perfect and it reflected
buyers' lifestyles and their desire for something unique in the marketplace.

The introduction of the BMW X6 is a logical next step in the process of
anticipating customer demand. The BMW X6 sets a new performance benchmark with
the world debut of its innovative Dynamic Performance Control rear differential
and advanced stability systems to ensure a new dimension in 4x4 car-like
driving capabilities. The drivetrain, incorporating BMW EfficientDynamics
technologies, ensures the X6 delivers excellent emissions and fuel consumption
figures in conjunction with impressive output and acceleration figures. All
that in a dynamic coupe-like body shape and interior that is unique in the
premium segment. The BMW X6 is a bespoke proposition, but one that competitors
look set to copy...just like the BMW X5.

Model / Price OTR / Power (hp) / Torque (Nm) / 0 - 62mph (secs) / Top Speed
(mph) / Combined mpg / CO2 (g/km) / VED Band

X6 xDrive30d / £41,965 / 235 / 520 / 8.0 / 137* / 34.4 / 217 / F***
X6 xDrive35d / £44,145 / 286 / 580 / 6.9 / 147 / 34.0 / 220 / F***
X6 xDrive35i / £42,730 / 306 / 400 / 6.7 / 149 / 25.9 / 262 / G
X6 xDrive50i / TBC / 408 / 600 / 5.4 / 155** / 22.6 / 299 / G

*Fitted with dynamic package.
** Electronically-limited.
***VED Band F vehicles qualify for £8-a-day London Congestion Charge.

The concept of the new BMW X6 is best considered in relation to the link
between the BMW 3 Series Saloon, Touring, Coupé and Convertible. People buy
all four versions of the 3 Series depending on their circumstances and needs.
The same will be the case for the BMW X6 compared to other BMW X models.

The BMW X6 is undeniably a niche car with BMW UK expecting to sell
approximately 1,600 X6s in its first year - by comparison an average of 7,000
X5s are sold every year. Research has shown that three key buyer profiles
exist:

• Buyers who want the command driving position an X product provides,
but who also aspire to the sporting style of a Coupé.
• Early adopters. BMW broke the mould when it launched the X5 and the
interest for that model came from early adopters looking for something unique
in the market. Early BMW X6 customers are expected to come from a similar
demographic.
• The BMW X5 or other Sports Activity Vehicle owner whose family has left
home and still desires a similar car, but one that doesn't scream 'family'.

Klaus Kibsgaard, the new Managing Director of BMW (UK) Ltd, said: "People have
questioned why we should launch such a car, but these doubters are the same who
said a BMW X5 wasn't a true BMW and that we shouldn't produce that. The BMW X5
3.0d has gone on to be the third biggest selling new car in our portfolio* and
is one of the most searched for used cars too.

"While we intend the X6 to be a niche product, BMW is leading the way in
introducing new vehicles that challenge convention but are borne out of
evolving customer demands. The BMW Z4 Coupé, the BMW 635d and the BMW 1 Series
Coupé are all examples of this. The BMW X6 caters for a more discerning sector
of the market which wants a specific product and won't compromise."

A quartet of turbocharged engines
For the first time in BMW's history a model range has been launched solely
powered by turbocharged engines. The BMW X6 xDrive35i is powered by the
twin-turbocharged 2007 and 2008 International Engine of the Year winner that
produces 306hp. This powerplant is capable of propelling the X6 xDrive35i from
zero to 62mph in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 149mph. The
2,979cc-engined X6 is still capable of achieving a combined 25.9mpg and a CO2
figure of 262g/km.

The BMW X6 xDrive30d and the BMW X6 xDrive35d also both have award-winning
powerplants under their bonnets. The former, a single turbocharged unit
produces 235hp from its 2,993cc block, while the latter ups the ante by
offering 286hp from the same capacity engine but aided by twin-turbochargers.

The BMW X6 xDrive30d, which is likely to become the biggest selling X6 variant
over time, reaches 62mph from zero in 8.0 seconds before going on to a top
speed of 137mph*. Emissions and economy figures are equally impressive,
recording 217g/km and 34.4mpg respectively. The low CO2 output is enough for
the car to qualify for a lower Vehicle Excise Duty band, compared to rival
products, and continue to be an £8-a-day Congestion Charge vehicle in London
should current proposals become statute.

*Note: In 2007 the BMW 320d Saloon accounted for 12,015 sales, BMW 520d Saloon
8,365 sales and the BMW X5 3.0d 6,233 sales.

The BMW X6 xDrive35d sprints from zero to 62mph in 6.9 seconds before going on
to a top speed of 147mph. It too sits under the 225g/km higher Vehicle Excise
Duty and Congestion Charge strata. The twin-turbocharged diesel records an
emissions figure of 220g/km, while also being capable of 34.0mpg.

Completing the awesome foursome of powerplants is a new twin-turbocharged,
high-precision direct injection, 4.4-litre V8 engine producing 408hp. This
all-new engine, not seen in any other BMW product before, is the most powerful
production non-M BMW V8 engine ever and makes the flagship X6 the most powerful
production X product. It can reach 62mph from standstill in 5.4 seconds -
quicker than a Porsche Boxster - before going on to an electronically-limited
top speed of 155mph.

All four X6 models utilise facets of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies. Brake
Energy Regeneration is standard across the range and combines with active
aerodynamics and low viscosity fluids in the steering and transmission
systems. Third-generation common-rail technology diesel-engined cars and
high-precision direct injection on the petrol models both serve to optimise the
combustion process.

*Note: In conjunction with dynamic package.

A new high in dynamic capability
The power of the BMW X6 is harnessed by an advanced chassis that incorporates
Dynamic Performance Control for the first time on a BMW. Dynamic Performance
Control offers drivers class-leading cornering ability courtesy of a complex
multi-clutch differential that, effectively, helps drive the vehicle around a
bend.

A conventional differential wastes power through wheelslip during cornering. A
limited-slip differential locks out an unloaded wheel to transfer drive to the
wheel with most grip - but the locked wheel can act as a drag on performance.
However, Dynamic Performance Control improves on the traditional, performance
oriented limited-slip differential. It allows an inside wheel to still deliver
power and provide drive, while at the same time sending more drive to the
outside wheel that has more grip. The result, combined with one of the most
advanced stability control systems available, is a vehicle that out performs
the current benchmark BMW X5 and some sports cars in terms of dynamic
capability.

The BMW X6 range goes on sale on 31 May, 2008. The diesel-engined models and
the X6 xDrive35i will initially be offered with the xDrive50i going on sale in
November 2008.

Did you know?
The BMW X6 xDrive30d has a better aerodynamic drag co-efficient than a Smart
fortwo: 0.33Cd vs 0.37Cd.
The BMW X6 accelerates faster from zero to 62mph than a Porsche Boxster: BMW
X6 xDrive50i 5.4secs vs Porsche Boxster 6.1secs.
The BMW X6 has more headroom on the second seat row than a Mercedes C Class:
946mm vs 942mm.
The BMW X6 has a larger boot than a VW Touareg: 570-litres vs 555-litres.
The BMW X6 laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife faster than a Maserati 3200 GT:
BMW X6 xDrive50i 8.35mins vs Maserati 8.37mins.

X6 key facts:
• Coupé-inspired styling and handling meets Sports Activity Vehicle driving
position, practicality and safety.
• First BMW to feature Dynamic Performance Control.
• BMW EfficientDynamics features across the range - diesel powered X6s are
both sub 225g/km vehicles.
• BMW's first ever all turbocharged model range. The BMW X6 is a unique
proposition offering owners the safety and convenience of a command driving
position with the on-road performance of a sports car, all wrapped in the
svelte lines of a coupé.

See downloadable document for clear table of data.

Model / Price OTR / Power Hp / Torque Nm / 0-62mph Seconds / Top Speed /
Combined Mpg / CO2 Emissions g/km

BMW X6 xDrive30d / £41,955 / 235 / 520 / 8.0 / 137* / 34.4 /
217
BMW X6 xDrive35d / £44,135 / 286 / 580 / 6.9 / 147 / 34.0 /
220
BMW X6 xDrive35i / £42,625 / 306 / 400 / 6.7 / 149 / 25.9 / 262
BMW x6 xDrive50i / TBC / 408 / 600 / 5.4 / 155** / 22.6 / 299

*Fitted with Dynamic Package. ** Electronically-limited

For the first time in BMW's history, an entire model range is turbocharged with
the X6 offering a quartet of forced induction powerplants. The range flagship
is an all-new twin-turbocharged V8 producing 408hp at 5,500rpm. The 4,395cc
engine makes the BMW X6 xDrive50i the most powerful production X model BMW has
ever produced. Its 600Nm of torque from 1,800rpm through to 4,500rpm propels
the X6 from zero to 62mph in 5.4 seconds. Top speed has been
electronically-limited to 155mph. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is
22.6mpg.

To optimise packaging, the configuration of the new V8 engine is unique too. It
is the first engine in the world to locate twin-turbochargers and a catalytic
converter within the vee of the engine. The revolutionary new engine design
allowed engineers to fit the twin-turbochargers needed for increased
performance without having to reconfigure the double wishbone front suspension.

To complement the outstanding performance figures of the new 4.4-litre
twin-turbocharged X6, it is joined by the X6 xDrive35i powered by the
International Engine of the Year 2007 winner. The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged
six-cylinder petrol engine already available in the 1 and 3 Series now comes to
the X6. Offering 306hp from its 2,979cc powerplant, the BMW X6 xDrive35i
produces peak power at 5,800rpm. With peak torque of 400Nm from 1,300rpm
through to 5,000rpm, it also offers the driver a seamless wave of acceleration
from near idle.

This award-winning engineering results in a vehicle that can sprint from zero
to 62mph in 6.7 seconds before going on to a top speed of 149mph. Fuel
consumption on the combined cycle is 25.9mpg with CO2 emissions of 262g/km.

It is the diesel-powered cars that are predicted to be the biggest selling
variants in the UK. The BMW X6 xDrive30d is powered by a single-turbocharged
six-cylinder diesel engine featuring third-generation common-rail fuel
injection and producing 235hp at 4,000rpm. The 2,993cc unit achieves 520Nm of
torque from 2,000rpm through to 2,750rpm. This helps deliver a zero to 62mph
time of 8.0 seconds before going on to a top speed of 137mph (with the Dynamic
Package fitted*). The BMW X6 xDrive30d still achieves 34.4mpg on the combined
cycle. Emissions of just 217g/km CO2 ensure the car falls into the Band F
Vehicle Excise Duty tier.

*Dynamic Package consists of unique 19-inch alloy wheels, Anthracite
headlining, mesh lower front grilles in titanium colour, Nevada leather
upholstery, fully electric seat adjustment, High-gloss Shadowline and Sports
seats.

Blending high performance with class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions is
also a trait of the BMW X6 xDrive35d. Powered by an award-winning
twin-turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine with third generation common-rail
technology, the X6 xDrive35d produces 286hp at 4,400rpm. Peak torque is 580Nm
and this is attained from 1,750rpm through to 2,250rpm. The near instantaneous
peak torque figure delivers swift acceleration in all situations. Zero to 62mph
is achieved in 6.9 seconds before the vehicle continues on to a top speed of
147mph. Fuel consumption is equally impressive with the X6 xDrive35d returning
34.0mpg on the combined cycle and emitting 220g/km CO2 emissions - again making
it a Band F Vehicle Excise Duty tier BMW.

EfficientDynamics:
The BMW X6 is aimed at the enthusiastic driver and, courtesy of BMW's
EfficientDynamics technology, its all round performance is enhanced by a number
of intelligent features.

Brake Energy Regeneration, incorporating an Intelligent Alternator Control and
an Absorbent Glass Mat battery to recycle previously lost energy, ensures
unrivalled fuel consumption in the X6. This is achieved as the alternator
reduces drag on the engine by only engaging when required to charge the
battery. Normally a traditional alternator is constantly draining power from
the engine. Additionally, the energy generated by the engine on over-run (under
braking or descending a hill) was also previously wasted. Now this lost energy
is used by the alternator to charge the battery.

Reduced rolling resistance tyres featuring special heat resistant,
anti-distortion materials in the tread and sidewalls lower emissions and
improve fuel efficiency on the X6. The Sports Activity Coupé comes with low
friction transmission fluids for efficient running and active aerodynamics to
regulate air flow to the engine. This enables the engine to always work at its
optimum efficiency for the benefit of power and economy. Petrol-powered X6s
also feature high-precision direct injection for the optimum in combustion
characteristics.

Dynamic Performance Control:
Twinned with BMW's benchmark xDrive four-wheel-drive system, Dynamic
Performance Control makes its world debut on the BMW X6. Dynamic Performance
Control works by spreading drive forces from side to side at the two rear
wheels as required in a given situation.

Dynamic Performance Control is unique. It is the only system of its kind in the
world able to provide its stabilising effect both under power and with the
engine on overrun. The system works by detecting possible over- or understeer
of the vehicle in, for example, a bend. When this occurs Dynamic Performance
Control will vary the distribution of drive forces between the wheels for
perfect stability, dynamic traction, and forward motion. This is achieved by
transferring additional wheel speed to the outer rear wheel to push the car
round the corner rather than applying brake force to the inner wheels as
currently happens with traditional stability control systems.

In the process, Dynamic Performance Control improves driving stability at all
speeds, not only ensuring maximum traction when pulling away and precise
control when entering a bend, but also higher levels of lateral acceleration
and optimum directional stability when accelerating out of the bend.

Design:
The BMW X6 is the third X model to be launched by BMW. The four-seat BMW X6 is
aimed at a different customer to X3 and X5 owners, appealing to the driver who
enjoys the command driving position, but one that also savours the
characteristics of a sports car.

The exterior design of the X6 is a bold statement of that customer intent. From
the front, large air intakes positioned on the outer reaches of the front
bumper highlight the cooling requirements of the high-performance engine. The
contour of the central air intake, in addition, visually widens the car for a
more sporting appearance.

From the side, the unique design and proportions of the BMW X6 are striking.
Its tapering roofline and long rear body overhang give the car a stretched
coupé silhouette. To accentuate this, the roofline reaches its highest point
directly behind the steering wheel tapering off to the rear to emphasise the
dynamic wedge shape of the car. Flared wheel arches, standard 19-inch
light-alloy wheels and a wide rear track all serve to underscore the vehicle's
sporting intent.

Equipment highlights:
All BMW X6s models come with a wealth of equipment as standard including
19-inch alloy wheels, Dynamic Performance Control, xDrive four-wheel-drive,
Dynamic Stability Control+, xenon headlights, front and rear Park Distance
Control, Sports suspension and a six-speed automatic transmission with steering
wheel-mounted paddles.

Inside, standard equipment highlights include part electric seat adjustment,
6.5-inch colour display screen with iDrive controller, two-zone climate control
and ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear. The X6 xDrive50i comes as
standard with a different style of 19-inch alloy wheel, self-levelling rear
suspension, angular exhaust tailpipes, a redesigned kidney grille and side
window surround, and Nevada leather upholstery.

Optional highlights of the X6 include BMW's Adaptive Drive handling package,
Active Steering, Head-up Display, Adaptive Headlights, High-beam Assistant,
Reversing Camera and four-zone climate control.

The BMW X6 launches in May, 2008 with the X6 xDrive30d, xDrive35i and
xDrive35d. The X6 xDrive50i goes on sale later in the year. Prices for this
model will be announced nearer the time.

Press Contact: Barbara Brailey
Tel: +44-1344-480-320
E-mail: barbara.brailey@bmw.co.uk

Press Release,X6,Product,BMW
