<p> </p>
<p>BMW M GmbH has unveiled the new BMW X3 M Competition and new BMW X4 M
  Competition – the refreshed high-performance models now offering an M
  experience that is even more exhilarating.<br />
  <br />The latest generation versions reaffirm the BMW X3 M Competition
  and new BMW X4 M Competition as standout models in their respective
  Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segments. The
  extensive revisions offer not only a fresher, more purposeful on-road
  presence, but also increased pulling power and a new operating
  concept, as well as enhanced interiors.<br />
  <br />Most noticeable is the look of both models. They share the new
  design features drawn from the BMW X3 and BMW X4 and further
  strengthen their bold new appearances with purposeful M specific bodystyling.<br />
  <br />They feature the most powerful BMW in-line six-cylinder petrol
  engine. Delivering 510hp and 650Nm of torque, both the BMW X3 M
  Competition and BMW X4 M Competition can sprint from 0 to 62mph in
  only 3.8 seconds – an improvement of 0.3 seconds compared to their predecessors.<br />
  <br />New sports seats and upholstery, together with the control
  island from the BMW M3 and BMW M4, are at the heart of the updated,
  modern interiors, while the inclusion of standard features such as BMW
  Live Cockpit Professional with fully digital display cluster and two
  12.3-inch displays, and Harman Kardon surround-sound entertainment
  system improve driver comfort and convenience.<br />
  <br />The BMW X3 M Competition will cost from £85,100***
  with the new BMW X4 M Competition starting at £86,860***.
  UK customer deliveries of these new models will commence in September 2021.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Larger BMW kidney grille and a more striking front
  section<br /></strong>The new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW X4
  M Competition have the enlarged BMW kidney grille with a one-piece
  frame and headlights that are around 10mm flatter. A black bar which
  houses the front-facing iCam lens provides visual separation of the
  BMW kidney grille, the frame of which is also finished in high-gloss
  black, as are the M double kidney bars. The radiator grille also
  features a vehicle-specific logo: X3 M or X4 M. In addition to the
  standard adaptive LED headlights with Matrix function, BMW Laser Light
  with a range of up to 650 metres is now also available as an optional extra.<br />
  <br />BMW M GmbH has designed the M specific front apron to be even
  more striking. One particularly standout feature is the new,
  vertically arranged and elongated side air intakes: these are angled
  down towards the spoiler lip and then the centre of the vehicle, where
  they follow the hexagonal shape of the central air intake. They are
  framed by trim elements in high-gloss black, which is also used for
  the caps of the aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirrors and the
  characteristic M gills integrated in the air breathers, as well as the
  rear spoiler on the BMW X4 M Competition.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New </strong>
  <strong>rear aprons and </strong>
  <strong>exclusive </strong>
  <strong>new paint finishes<br /></strong>The BMW X3 M Competition has
  the full LED rear lights of the refreshed BMW X3 with a black surround
  and narrower illuminated graphics. The lower section of the rear apron
  is M specific and finished in high-gloss black. The large diffuser is
  flanked on the right and left by the tailpipe pairs of the M sports
  exhaust system, which are finished in black chrome.<br />
  <br />The new rear apron of the BMW X4 M Competition features a wide
  insert in the shape of a large anvil. Like the lateral
  air‑curtain‑panels, which also accommodate the new vertical
  reflectors, this is finished in high-gloss black. The two pairs of
  tailpipes in black chrome also frame the diffuser on the BMW X4 M
  Competition. In addition to Carbon Black metallic and Brooklyn Grey
  metallic, there are two new paint finishes reserved exclusively for
  the X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition models – Marina Bay Blue
  metallic and Sao Paulo Yellow. In addition, a wide range of BMW
  Individual paint finishes are available for the first time, such as
  the matt finish Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>High-revving </strong>
  <strong>six-cylinder engine </strong>
  <strong>with motor racing expertise<br /></strong>At the heart of the
  BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition is BMW’s most powerful
  in-line six-cylinder petrol engine with a peak power output of  510hp
  and peak torque to 650Nm – an increase of 50Nm. Both cars can sprint
  from 0 to 62mph in 3.8 seconds – a 0.3-second improvement compared to
  the previous models. This puts the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4
  M Competition on a par with high-performance sports cars. The top
  speed is electronically limited at 155mph. This limit is raised to
  180mph in conjunction with the optional M Driver’s Package.<br />
  <br />The in-line six-cylinder engine now also features the forged
  lightweight crankshaft of the BMW M3 and M4 models. Its highly durable
  yet low weight and reduced rotating masses also benefit the engine’s
  revving power.<br />
  <br />The engine’s racetrack-proven cooling system is designed to
  enable an exceptionally high level of output and includes two
  laterally positioned radiators in addition to the central one. There
  is also an additional engine-oil cooler and a separate
  transmission-oil cooler. BMW M GmbH motor racing expertise is also
  evident in the design of the oil supply system, which is geared
  towards racetrack use.</p>

    <br /></strong>
  <strong>M Sport exhaust and 8-speed M Steptronic
  transmission<br /></strong>The standard M Sport exhaust system in the
  BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition enriches the engine with
  a sound that is particularly distinctive. The infinitely variable
  flaps of the exhaust system allow for a highly varied sound production
  yet also retain day-to-day practicality.<br />
  <br />Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8‑speed M
  Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. In addition to fully
  automatic gear changes, it also enables manual shifting with
  sequential selection of the drive position. In addition to the new M
  gear selector in the centre console, shift paddles on the steering
  wheel are also available for this purpose. In manual mode, multiple
  downshifts can be made to the lowest possible gear to harness the
  engine drag torque for braking. When accelerating, no forced upshift
  is triggered even at high revs.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M xDrive all-wheel drive system with rear-wheel
  orientation<br /></strong>The M xDrive all-wheel drive system also
  contributes to the agility of the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M
  Competition, combining the traction benefits of power transmission to
  all four wheels with the proven dynamic qualities of classic
  rear-wheel drive. The electronically controlled M xDrive – which is
  networked with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system – will only
  direct part of the drive torque to the front axle when the rear wheels
  reach the limits of their power transmission capabilities. At the
  touch of a button, the driver can influence not only how the driving
  stability control works but also the distribution of drive torque
  between the front and rear wheels. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Hallmark M style driving dynamics</strong>
  <br />The BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition combine
  exceptional high performance driving dynamics with immense usability
  and long-distance comfort. The standard adaptive M suspension with
  specific set-up and electronically controlled dampers ensure both a
  high level of day-to-day comfort and extremely direct road contact,
  with limited wheel and body movement.<br />
  <br />The damping forces are ideally suited to cope with every
  situation on the road and set individually for each wheel at
  continuously varying levels by means of interior electromagnetically
  controlled valves. The basic characteristic of the dampers can be
  influenced at the touch of a button. Driving precision and response
  are based on extensive measures to reinforce the body and suspension
  attachment, for example an M specific strut package.<br />
  <br />The electromechanical M Servotronic steering and DSC (Dynamic
  Stability Control) also contribute to the typical M driving
  experience. In M Dynamic Mode, this system allows additional wheel
  slip to generate the self-steering response that is typical of M,
  enabling controlled drift manoeuvres when used on the race track, for example.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M compound brake system and 21-inch wheels as
  standard<br /></strong>The performance characteristics of the BMW X3 M
  Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition are complemented by the high
  efficiency of the standard M compound brake system. The brake
  callipers bear the M logo and are finished in blue as standard or in
  high-gloss black or red on request. The perfectly matched overall
  package for maximum performance also includes the 21-inch wheels with
  mixed tyres in 255/40 ZR21 at the front and 265/40 ZR21 at the rear.
  One new feature is the M forged wheel 892M Star Spoke in Jet Black
  burnished, which saves 2kgs of weight per wheel. As an alternative,
  the M light alloy wheel 765M V-Spoke is likewise available in Jet
  Black burnished.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M interior with new accents<br /></strong>The BMW X3 M
  Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition feature M Sport seats with
  electrically adjustable headrests and illuminated M logo as standard.
  Extended Merino leather upholstery is offered in three colour
  combinations – Black, Sakhir Orange or Adelaide Grey. Black with
  Midland Beige bicolour Merino leather and Alcantara is also available
  as an option. The air vents have new galvanised trim and the interior
  trims are now finished in carbon fibre as standard. The M leather
  multifunction steering wheel features contrast stitching in the BMW M
  colours and an open 6 o'clock spoke.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW Live Cockpit Professional with intelligent
  networking<br /></strong>The new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW
  X4 M Competition are equipped with BMW Live Cockpit Professional
  including Connected Drive as standard. Intelligent networking
  including innovative digital services based on BMW Operating System 7
  – such as BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Connected Music and
  Remote Software Upgrade – enable strong interaction between driver and
  vehicle. Intuitive multi-modal operation has been further optimised.
  Depending on the situation, the driver has a choice between touch
  operation on the Control Display, the tried-and-tested BMW Controller,
  the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel or voice control. A
  Harman Kardon surround sound system now comes as standard.<br />
  <br />BMW Live Cockpit Professional offers a fully digital display
  network: the high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering
  wheel and the Control Display each have a screen diagonal of 12.3
  inches. The fully digital instrument display offers, among other
  things, the M View with specific displays adopted from the BMW M8
  models. M specific display content is also available with the optional
  BMW Head-Up Display. The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps offers
  particularly fast and precise calculation of routes and arrival times,
  real-time traffic data updates at short intervals and free text input
  for selecting navigation destinations. In addition, BMW Maps with
  Connected Parking provides drivers with even more detailed support in
  the search for a vacant parking space near their destination. What’s
  more, On-Street Parking Information and ParkNow services are
  integrated in the range of BMW Maps functions.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Smartphone integration and BMW Intelligent Personal
  Assistant<br /></strong>Another standard feature is optimised
  smartphone integration. Android Auto can now be used with the
  vehicle’s operating system, in addition to Apple CarPlay. Here, the
  driver can view all the important information from the apps on the
  Control Display and also in the instrument cluster and the optional
  Head-Up Display. The capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal
  Assistant are being expanded on an ongoing basis. With the digital
  companion, naturally spoken instructions can now be used to regulate
  the air conditioning, open and close the windows or change the driving
  experience switch modes, for instance. It can also access the new News
  app, which reads out the latest news to passengers, and learn routines
  that increase comfort and driving pleasure in certain situations.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Remote Software Upgrade and BMW Drive
  Recorder<br /></strong>BMW Operating System 7 now also includes Remote
  Software Upgrade. This means that the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW
  X4 M Competition always remain up to date with the latest software.
  Possible upgrades are varied and can include different content, from
  new services to improved vehicle features – all of which can be loaded "over-the-air".<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New control island from the current BMW M3 and M4
  models<br /></strong>Originating from the current BMW M3 and M4
  models, the newly designed control island on the centre console
  includes two new buttons in addition to the specific M gear selector
  with Drivelogic rocker switch: the BMW Controller and the red engine
  start button. The set-up button provides direct access to all settings
  options for the engine and suspension. Two individually configured
  variants of the M set-up can be permanently stored and retrieved at
  any time using the two M buttons on the steering wheel. The M Mode
  button can be used to influence the activities of the driver
  assistance systems as well as the displays in the instrument cluster
  and in the Head-Up Display at the touch of a button.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Driving Assistant Professional available for the first
  time<br /></strong>The BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M
  Competition come with all the modern driver assistance systems of the
  BMW X3 and BMW X4. In addition to the Driving Assistant, the Driving
  Assistant Professional is available as an option for the first time.
  It includes Active Cruise Control with improved functionality in the
  city, intersection warning with additional city braking function,
  emergency lane assistant and the improved steering/lane guidance
  assistant. The 3D environment visualisation in the instrument cluster
  provides an overview of which Driving Assistant Professional
  assistance systems are activated and what functions they offer. The
  optional Parking Assistant Plus now also includes the reverse
  assistant, which helps retrace a completed line in reverse. Parking
  Assistant Plus uses Park View, Panorama View and 3D Top View to create
  a 360-degree image of the vehicle and its surroundings from various
  perspectives. Meanwhile, the driver can have a three-dimensional live
  image of their vehicle and its surroundings transmitted to their
  smartphone by means of Remote 3D View.</p>

    <span>The X3 M Competition, a midsize SUV, and the X4 M Competition,
      a Sports Activity Coupe, will be powered by the high-revving unit
      that features track-proven cooling and oil supply systems as well
      as the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology update. Generating
      510hp, the 3.0-litre in-line petrol engine has a peak torque of
      600Nm while,a dual-branch exhaust system helps to deliver an
      intoxicating soundtrack.<br />
      <br />
      <span>The ongoing development of M TwinPower Turbo technology,
        coupled with the inclusion of two particulate filters and four
        catalytic converters, ensures the high-performance, lightweight
        unit can claim remarkable efficiency and exceptionally low
        emissions for an engine of this size.<br />
        <br />
        <span>In the BMW X3 M Competition combined fuel consumption is
          26.9mpg* with CO<span>2</span> emissions of 239g/km while the
          X4 M Competition returns 26.7mpg* and CO<span>2
          </span>emissions also at 239g/km.<br />
          <br /></span></span></span></span>
  <span>
    <strong>Powertrain<br /></strong>The use of cutting-edge technology
    is at the very heart of the engine. Indeed, the cylinder head has a
    core manufactured using 3D printing. This additional manufacturing
    process enables geometric forms to be created that are beyond the
    capability of conventional metal casting techniques. 3D printing
    technology has cut the weight of the new engine’s cylinder head core
    and allowed its coolant ducts to be routed in a way that optimises
    temperature management.<span>  <br />
      <br /></span>
    <span>The six-cylinder in-line engine serves up its peak torque
      between 2,600 and 5,950 rpm. It generates maximum output at 6,250
      rpm and sustains its power delivery until the 7,300 rpm ‘red
      line’. The BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M Competition accelerate from zero
      to 62mph in 4.1 seconds, while top speed is electronically
      governed at 155mph. If the optional M Driver’s Package is
      specified (available from August 2019), this rises to 174mph and
      the customer receives the chance to participate in an M Intensive
      Training in the UK or throughout the world to hone their driving skills.</span></span></p>

    <strong>Eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and
      three shift modes<br /></strong>The new high-performance engine
    links up with the latest upgrade of the eight-speed M Steptronic
    transmission with Drivelogic. As well as fully automated gear
    changes, it also enables manual shifts with sequential gear
    selection. Fitted as standard along with the newly designed selector
    lever are gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. Manual mode
    allows the driver to shift down several times to the lowest gear
    possible in order to utilise the engine braking effect. <br />
    <br />
    <span>The driver can use the selector lever’s Drivelogic switch to
      adjust the transmission’s shift characteristics in both automatic
      and manual modes. Drivelogic mode 1 aids efficient driving with
      smooth gear changes, while switching to mode 2 is for sportier
      driving with shorter shift times. The third mode makes gear
      changes even sharper. <br />
      <br />
      <span>
        <span>Both cars feature the new M xDrive all-wheel-drive system,
          which sends power to all four wheels for maximum traction but,
          unlike many other similar systems, it possesses the dynamic
          qualities of classical rear-wheel drive. The electronically
          controlled M xDrive, which works in tandem with the DSC
          (Dynamic Stability Control) system, only shifts drive to the
          front axle when the rear wheels start to lose optimum traction.<br />
          <br />
          <span>As well as modifying the responses of the DSC system,
            drivers can also adjust the distribution of power between
            the front and rear wheels at the touch of a button. M
            Dynamic Mode – which can be activated as an alternative to
            the standard DSC setting – gives the driver access to the M
            xDrive 4WD Sport option. This shifts even more power to the
            rear wheels, enabling controlled drifts and particularly
            playful handling. DSC Off mode (with DSC deactivated),
            meanwhile, has been optimised for ultra-dynamic driving
            situations, such as on track, and can be combined with the
            standard all-wheel-drive setting 4WD or with 4WD Sport mode. <br />
            <br />
            <span>
              <strong>Chassis<br /></strong>Both cars are underpinned by
              a model-specific chassis technology tuned to match the
              engine’s high power and the capabilities of the M xDrive
              all-wheel-drive system. Far-reaching measures to
              strengthen the body and chassis mountings have a
              particularly beneficial effect on steering precision and
              both cars feature model-specific anti-roll bars, whose
              increased rigidity translates into more direct response,
              resulting in a reduction in body roll and more precise
              handling. <br />
              <br />
              <span>The BMW X3 M Competition, BMW X4 M Competition
                feature M-specific adaptive suspension with
                electronically controlled dampers that ensure both
                excellent everyday comfort and direct contact with the
                road as well as little wheel and body movement. <br />
                <br />
                <span>
                  <span>The basic damper set-up can be varied at the
                    touch of a button with a choice of three modes, each
                    with their own settings. COMFORT mode smooths out
                    bumps in the road without compromising handling
                    stability, while damping becomes significantly
                    firmer in SPORT mode. Activating SPORT+ mode
                    delivers an even tauter set-up. <br />
                    <br />
                    <span>
                      <span>Steering response can also be varied by
                        pushing a button to select one of three
                        settings. The steering is at its lightest, yet
                        positive in COMFORT mode, but is even more
                        communicative in SPORT mode, where more force is
                        required to turn the wheel. Configured for an
                        extremely sporty steering feel, SPORT+ mode
                        further increases the steering effort needed and
                        maximises feedback from the road. <br />
                        <br />
                        <span>
                          <span>The BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M
                            Competition also feature effective M
                            compound brakes as standard. Featuring
                            four-piston fixed callipers at the front
                            wheels and single-piston floating callipers
                            at the rear, they provide superb stopping
                            power. The callipers are painted Blue and
                            bear the M logo and the drilled,
                            inner-vented brake discs measure 395
                            millimetres in diameter at the front and 370
                            millimetres at the rear. <br />
                            <br />
                            <span>The Competition models also feature
                              model-specific M light-alloy wheels in
                              V-spoke design and mixed size
                              high-performance tyres (non-runflat) to
                              match. Standard specification for the BMW
                              X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition
                              includes 21-inch wheels finished in
                              Bicolour black with 255/40 ZR21 tyres at
                              the front and 265/40 ZR21 tyres at the
                              rear. <br />
                              <br /></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span>
  <span>
    <strong>Exterior design<br /></strong>The exterior on both models
    makes no secret of their performance-focused character. The large
    intakes at the front end ensure an effective supply of cooling air
    for the engine, transmission and brakes while the signature M design
    elements at the front, sides and rear serve to optimise aerodynamics
    and have been carefully matched to the power unit’s performance
    characteristics and the chassis’ tuning.<br />
    <br /></span>
  <span>Both the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition have a
    long wheelbase, short overhangs, slightly hexagonal wheel arches,
    crisp lines and clean-cut surface contouring, plus tell-tale M
    features to highlight sporting credentials. Alongside the large air
    intakes and aerodynamically optimised front apron, both models also
    sport a BMW high-gloss black kidney grille with black double bars. <br />
    <br />
    <span>
      <span>The exterior colour scheme sets the M models apart even more
        clearly from the standard versions of the BMW X3 M Competition
        and BMW X4 M Competition. The front and rear aprons, the wheel
        arch surrounds and the edges of the side skirts are painted
        entirely in body colour, replacing the usual black bordering. <br />
        <br /></span></span></span>
  <span>There is a choice of seven colours for the exterior paintwork of
    the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition including the
    brand new Toronto Red metallic and the popular Donington Grey
    metallic, both exclusive to M cars only. <br />
    <br /></span>
  <span>
    <strong>M-style cockpit design, versatile interior <br /></strong>An
    ergonomically efficient cockpit design, sports seats and a wealth of
    model-specific design details give the cabins of the BMW X3 M
    Competition and BMW X4 M Competition models a sporty yet luxurious
    feel while the M-style design of the displays and controls makes it
    easier for drivers to stay focused on the job in hand. <br />
    <br />
    <span>Standard specification for the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4
      M Competition includes heated M seats in Full Merino leather, with
      upper sections embossed with the M logo and electric adjustment
      for both front seats and Lumbar support for the driver’s seat and
      front passenger seat as standard.<br />
      <br /></span></span>
  <span>Customers can select from Black Merino leather, Adelaide Grey
    with Sakhir Orange highlights, Sakhir Orange, BMW Individual Ivory
    White or Tartufo at no additional cost.<span>  </span>The exclusive
    Midrand Beige with Alcantara seat can be optionally selected, as can
    Carbon Fibre interior trims. <span> <br />
      <br /></span>
    <span>Although the interior appears firmly focused on a sporty
      driving experience, it still retains the versatility for which BMW
      X models are known. Both models come as standard with a 40:20:40
      split-folding rear seats, enabling luggage capacity to be
      increased to a maximum of 1,600 litres in the BMW X3 M Competition
      and 1,430 litres in the BMW X4 M Competition. Standard
      specification includes BMW Icon Adaptive LED headlights, electric
      seats with memory, harman/kardon loudspeaker system, Active
      Protection , Acoustic Glazing , Driving Assistant and Electric
      folding mirrors. Additionally, both Competition models come with
      21-inch Bicolour wheels, an M Sport exhaust system, Black kidney
      grilles and black tailpipe finishers.<br />
      <br />
      <span>
        <strong>Instrument cluster and BMW Head-Up Display
        <br /></strong>The BMW Head-Up Display is standard on both the
        X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition. This unit projects
        driving information onto the windscreen and into the driver’s
        immediate field of vision. Without having to look away from the
        road, the driver can view information such as the car’s speed on
        the digital indicator, the gear selected, alerts from the
        traffic sign recognition system, navigation instructions and a
        multi-colour M rev band indicator with shift lights.<span>  <br />
          <br /></span>
        <span>A separate control panel on the centre console and two M
          Drive buttons on the steering wheel allow drivers to choose
          their desired chassis set-up. These buttons allow the DSC
          mode, the engine’s performance characteristics, the settings
          for the electronically controlled dampers and the steering
          set-up to be selected independently. The shift program for the
          eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic is
          engaged by means of a button on the selector lever. Drivers
          can use the iDrive menu to select an M xDrive mode with the
          DSC system deactivated. The iDrive menu also allows them to
