<p> </p>
<p>BMW has enhanced its BMW X3 and BMW X4 models with a comprehensive
  refresh that includes sportier styling together with modern interiors,
  new equipment and updated infotainment.<br />
  <br />The strongest visual aspect of the enhancements is the
  redesigned front and rear section which, in the latest
  third-generation of the BMW X3, accentuates the robust Sports Activity
  Vehicle appearance. Its Sports Activity Coupé counterpart, the
  second-generation BMW X4, adopts the new front design and adds its own
  accentuation with the BMW mesh kidney grille and dynamic rear-end styling.<br />
  <br />The new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 feature modern hybrid
  technology. In addition to the BMW X3 xDrive30e with plug-in hybrid
  drive, all four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines in both model series
  now use 48-volt mild hybrid technology.<br />
  <br />All versions feature BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive and
  8-speed Steptronic transmissions that are specifically tuned to match
  each engine’s characteristics, contributing to lower fuel consumption
  and reduced emissions.<br />
  <br />Both model ranges are topped with M40i and M40d variants, which
  are even more dynamic when specified in Pro Edition trim. X3 customers
  can choose between xLine or M Sport trim on other versions, while BMW
  X4 customers benefit from M Sport trim as standard.<br />
  <br />Both the X3 and X4 include enhanced equipment such as the BMW
  Live Cockpit Professional with 12.3-inch Control Display and automatic
  air conditioning with three-zone control. X3 xLine models also include
  sports seats with upholstery featuring a new generation of Sensatec in
  the new Ray grain.<br />
  <br />The UK market launch of the new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 will
  get underway in September 2021, following the start of production at
  BMW Plant Spartanburg (USA) in August 2021.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New BMW kidney grille and flatter headlights<br /></strong>The
  BMW kidney grille is larger than before and now comprises a
  single-piece frame. A black bar, in which the iCam is positioned if
  fitted, provides visual separation of the grille. The frame is
  finished in pearlescent chrome and the grille bars in satin-finished
  aluminium. The front headlights, which are now about 10mm flatter,
  feature full LED technology as standard. As an option, darkened
  inserts in M Shadow Line lights can replace the light components in
  the headlights. Adaptive LED headlights are standard and BMW Laser
  Light with a range of up to 650 metres are available as an optional upgrade.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New front apron and vertical air intakes<br /></strong>Below
  the headlights, vertical air intakes frame the front bumper. In the
  new front apron, amply-sized surfaces in body colour and the robust
  underbody protection reinforce the presence and high-quality feel of
  the new BMW X3. The window graphics and roof rails are in
  satin-finished aluminium as standard.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Newly designed rear apron a</strong>
  <strong>nd </strong>
  <strong>tailpipe trims<br /></strong>The rear section of the new BMW
  X3 is sharper and bolder. A black border encircles full LED rear
  lights, while the narrower light graphic now includes a
  three-dimensional contour and integrated horizontal turn signals.
  There’s also new underbody protection and larger flush-fitting
  tailpipe trims.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M </strong>
  <strong>S</strong>
  <strong>port </strong>
  <strong>trim with specific</strong>
  <strong> exterior details<br /></strong>The M Sport trim gives the BMW
  X3 a sportier look. The trim-specific front apron features larger air
  inlets and inserts finished in high-gloss black, as well as more
  pronounced air curtains. High Gloss Shadow Line exterior trim also
  extends to the window graphics and roof rails, the frame and the bars
  of the BMW kidney grille. The sportier rear bumper includes a more
  striking diffuser finished in Dark Shadow along with two additional
  side air‑curtain‑panels in high-gloss black. The standard trim
  includes the new 19-inch light alloy wheel Y-Spoke in Midnight Grey
  Bicolor, while 20-inch and 21-inch wheels are additionally available
  as an option, as are the M Sport brakes with blue or red brake callipers.<br />
  <br />The M Sport also adds such features as the M Sport
  multi-function leather steering wheel, M Sport suspension, remote
  control including integrated key, Performance Control, Aluminium
  Rhombicle interior trim and Variable Sport Steering.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Further M insignia in the M Performance cars<br /></strong>The
  BMW X3 M40i and BMW X3 M40d offer added visual differentiation. Both
  vehicles feature a specific BMW M kidney grille which, in addition to
  a chrome frame, bears the M double grille bars in high-gloss black and
  an M logo. Aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirrors in high-gloss
  black and specially designed tailpipe trims in black chrome ensure a
  distinctive look. The BMW X3 M40i and BMW X3 M40d are fitted as
  standard with 21-inch M Double-spoke bicolour alloy wheels.<br />
  <br />The Pro Edition takes the M experience to an even higher level.
  It builds on the extensive standard specification with the likes of
  BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey paint, carbon fibre interior trim, M
  Sport front seats, M Sport brakes with red calipers and M carbon
  exterior mirror caps.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Eight</strong>
  <strong> paint finishes to choose from<br /></strong>Following the
  redesign of the BMW X3, BMW offers a total of eight paint finishes in
  the regular range, including the one non-metallic finish in Alpine
  White. Customers can enhance their paintwork further by choosing a
  special BMW Individual paint finish in Tanzanite Blue, which is
  available for xDrive30e, M40i and M40d models.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW mesh kidney grille as an exclusive distinguishing
  feature<br /></strong>As with the BMW X3, BMW has also significantly
  revised the front and rear sections of the BMW X4. The coupé
  completely adopts the new front end of the BMW X3 with headlights that
  are around 10mm flatter, along with the redesigned front apron and the
  enlarged, and more striking, BMW kidney grille. The BMW X4 features
  the mesh kidney grille, familiar from other sporty BMW models. The
  mesh‑inserts are in satin-finished aluminium, while the frame is
  finished in pearlescent chrome as before. The adaptive LED headlights
  also come as standard.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Coupé silhouette and redesigned rear<br /></strong>The typical
  BMW proportions with long bonnet, flat windscreen and long wheelbase
  give the BMW X4 an elongated, sporty appearance. It is 55mm lower than
  the BMW X3, longer by 43mm and 27mm wider. Featuring full LED rear
  lights with a three-dimensional design, emphasising the vehicle width,
  the rear section now has an even more clear-cut shape. The new rear
  apron looks neater, with an increased proportion of painted surface
  and reflectors now placed vertically and lower in the bumper. The wide
  free-form tailpipe trims echo the horizontal lines of the upper section.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M </strong>
  <strong>Sport</strong>
  <strong>trim</strong>
  <strong> with striking rear apron<br /></strong>With the M Sport trim,
  the BMW X4 has the BMW mesh kidney grille in chrome with Black High
  Gloss vertical slats. The distinctive appearance is further enhanced
  with High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim and M aerodynamic
  bodystyling, while inside there is an Anthracite headlining, Aluminium
  Rhombicle interior trim and M Sport multi-function leather steering
  wheel. M Sport also includes remote control with integrated key and
  the new 19-inch Y‑Spoke alloy wheels in Midnight Grey Bicolor as standard.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW M insignia for the BMW X4 M40i and BMW X4
  M40d<br /></strong>The BMW X4 M40i and the BMW X4 M40d are based on
  the corresponding X3 models in terms of look and standard equipment,
  and like them bear the typical BMW M insignia. These include the
  specific BMW M kidney grille with chrome frame, double kidney bars in
  high-gloss black and M logo as well as the aerodynamically optimised M
  exterior mirrors in high-gloss black. The BMW X4 M40i and BMW X4 M40d
  also feature the tailpipe trims in black chrome. 21-inch M
  Double-spoke bicolour alloy wheels are fitted as standard on both
  models, like on their BMW X3 counterparts.<br />
  <br />The Pro Edition adds BMW individual Frozen Deep Grey paint,
  carbon fibre interior trim, M Sport front seats, M Sport brakes with
  red calipers, and M carbon exterior mirror caps.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>High levels of standard equipment and new </strong>
  <strong>Sensatec upholstery </strong>
  <strong>on X3 xLine models</strong>
  <strong>
    <br /></strong>The new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 now welcome
  passengers into a significantly revised interior. The centre console
  in the two X models is drawn from the current BMW 4 Series. The
  free-standing, central Control Display with touch function now offers
  a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches as standard.<br />
  <br />The significantly improved range of standard equipment now also
  includes enhanced sports seats, with upholstery featuring a new
  generation of Sensatec in the new Ray grain and perforated main
  surfaces for X3 xLine models. X3 M Sport models and all X4 models
  feature Vernasca leather upholstery as standard. Automatic air
  conditioning with three-zone control is standard across the range,
  allowing separate temperature settings for the driver and front
  passenger as well as separate climate control at the rear. <br />
  <strong>
    <br /></strong>In order to increase seating comfort at the rear, the
  inclination of the rear-seat backrest, which has a 40:20:40 split as
  standard, can be individually adjusted in several stages via the cargo
  function. For increased functionality, the optional storage package
  includes an adaptive fastening system. The standard load volume of 550
  litres can be increased to up to 1,600 litres in the BMW X3 and from
  525 litres to a maximum of 1,430 litres in the BMW X4.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>48-volt mild hybrid technology</strong>
  <strong> with 48-volt starter generator<br /></strong>The mild hybrid
  technology used in all available combustion engines draws on a
  powerful 48-volt starter generator and an additional battery, so it
  has significantly expanded possibilities when it comes to brake energy recuperation.<br />
  <br />The energy obtained by means of recuperation and stored in the
  48-volt battery is also used to supply the 12-volt electrical system
  and the electrically-operated vehicle functions connected to it. It
  can also be used to generate additional drive power. What’s more, the
  48-volt starter generator can also create an electric boost of 11hp
  during hard acceleration, which is particularly helpful for overtaking.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Three </strong>
  <strong>powerful</strong>
  <strong> and </strong>
  <strong>highly </strong>
  <strong>efficient diesel engines<br /></strong>The three diesel
  engines on offer all ensure highly efficient mobility. The engine in
  the BMW X3 xDrive20d and the BMW X4 xDrive20d delivers an output of
  190hp with a maximum torque of 400Nm between 1,750 and 2,500rpm. The
  two models accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds, reaching a top
  speed of 132mph.<br />
  <br />The BMW X3 xDrive30d and the BMW X4 xDrive30d are powered by a
  3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder. The diesel unit delivers a maximum
  output of 286hp at 4,000rpm and an impressive maximum torque of 650Nm
  between 1,500 and 2,500rpm. Both body variants sprint from 0-62mph in
  only 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 152mph.<br />
  <br />The BMW X3 M40d and the BMW X4 M40d are even more powerful.
  Their BMW M Performance diesel engine generates a maximum output of
  340hp and delivers a maximum torque of 700Nm from just 1,750rpm. As a
  result, acceleration from standstill to 62mph takes just 4.9 seconds,
  while the top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.<br />
  <br />All diesel units feature BMW TwinPower turbocharging with
  variable turbine geometry and common-rail direct injection at maximum
  injection pressures of 2,500 to 2,700 bar. For emission control, BMW
  BluePerformance technology is on board with particulate filter,
  oxidation and NOx storage catalytic converter along with an SCR
  catalytic converter with AdBlue injection.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Powerful petrol engines with four and six
  cylinders<br /></strong>The petrol engine range includes a
  four-cylinder engine and a powerful in-line six-cylinder. Their
  innovative BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology includes TwinScroll
  turbocharging, direct high-precision injection, the variable camshaft
  control system double VANOS and the fully variable valve control
  system Valvetronic, while emission control is supported by a petrol
  engine particulate filter. Additional efficiency and a power boost of
  11hp when needed is provided by 48-volt‑mild‑hybrid‑technology.<br />
  <br />The BMW X3 xDrive20i is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder
  petrol engine. It produces 184hp and maximum torque of 300Nm between
  1,350 and 4,000rpm. The sprint from 0 to 62mph takes 8.4 seconds,
  while the top speed is 133mph.<br />
  <br />The M Performance in-line six-cylinder engine in the BMW X3 M40i
  and the BMW X4 M40i generates 360hp and delivers a maximum torque of
  500Nm, which is available between 1,900 and 5,000rpm. It goes from
  0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 155mph.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Plug-in hybrid with an electric range of </strong>
  <strong>more than 30 miles</strong>
  <strong>
    <br /></strong>The BMW X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid model features a
  four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor whose
  power is transmitted to all four wheels. Their joint system output of
  252hp can be increased by up to 40hp by temporary use of the electric
  motor’s peak output. The BMW X3 xDrive30e takes just 6.1 seconds to
  accelerate from 0-62mph. It has a lithium-ion high-voltage battery
  that enables a range of up to 31 miles (WLTP).<br />

  <strong>8-speed Steptronic transmission for all
  engines<br /></strong>All engines are combined with 8-speed Steptronic
  transmissions specifically matched to their engine characteristics,
  contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions. The BMW
  X3 M40i, BMW X3 M40d and all BMW X4 models feature the otherwise
  optional 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission including paddle shifts
  and Launch Control as standard.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW xDrive: precise power distribution with optimised
  efficiency<br /></strong>BMW xDrive all-wheel drive makes a
  significant contribution to the versatile sporty flair of the new BMW
  X3 and BMW X4. The latest edition of the system is lighter and more
  efficient. In addition, the precise electronic control of the
  intelligent all-wheel drive ensures the superb power distribution that
  is so typical of the brand. Its rear-wheel orientation makes hard
  cornering particularly exciting. In addition, BMW xDrive optimises
  both driving stability and traction over rough terrain.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>High-quality suspension technology with an individual
  set-up<br /></strong>With their high-quality and specifically matched
  suspension technology, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 offer plenty of agility
  as well as a high level of ride comfort. All BMW X4s and BMW X3s from
  M Sport upwards are also fitted with variable sports steering as
  standard, in addition to the M Sport suspension. With the optional
  adaptive suspension, the electronically controlled dampers adapt to
  both road conditions and driving style. For either a sporty or
  comfortable basic set-up, there is a choice of two modes that can be
  activated using the driving experience switch.<br />
  <br />A powerful lightweight braking system and DSC (Dynamic Stability
  Control) also contribute to sporty and safe handling characteristics.
  In addition to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Dynamic Traction
  Control (DTC), the range of functions also includes the ADB-X
  electronic differential lock, CBC Cornering Brake Control, DBC Dynamic
  Brake Control, start-off assistant and HDC Hill Descent Control.
  Performance Control – a standard feature in the BMW X3 xDrive30e as
  well as all M Sport and M40i/40d on both BMW X3 and BMW X4 models –
  increases agility by distributing drive torque to the rear wheels
  depending on the situation.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Special dynamic performance in the M40i and M40d
  models<br /></strong>The M40i and M40d models of the BMW X3 and BMW X4
  offer even more dynamic performance. They come as standard with a
  flap-controlled M Sport exhaust system, M Sport brakes and M Sport
  suspension with M performance-specific set-up. Adaptive M Sport
  suspension is standard-fit on these models, offering an even greater
  spread between ride comfort and sportiness. In addition, the BMW
  xDrive all-wheel drive system is significantly more rear-oriented.
  Integrated in DSC and acting on the rear wheels, Performance Control
  has been given a new set-up to provide typical M driving dynamics.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Aerodynamic fine-tuning<br /></strong>With a drag coefficient
  of 0.29 and 0.30 respectively, the BMW X3 and BMW X4 boast the best
  levels in their segment. The reduction of air resistance not only
  helps reduce fuel consumption, it also offers benefits in terms of
  noise comfort. In addition to aerodynamically optimised vehicle
  proportions, the two models feature an enclosed underbody structure.
  Further aerodynamic measures include the roof spoiler and the active
  air flap control.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Assistance systems for enhanced comfort and safety</strong>
  <br />In refreshing the BMW X3 and BMW X4, BMW has reorganised and,
  once again, significantly expanded the range of modern driver
  assistance systems to enhance both comfort and safety. Standard
  systems include cruise control with braking function, as well as front
  collision warning with braking function for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.<br />
  <br />Driving Assistant Professional is available for the first time
  as an option on M40d and M40i models, offering the driver enhanced
  comfort and safety. Parking Assistant Plus now also includes the
  reverse assistant, which helps retrace a completed line in reverse.
  Another new feature in the BMW X3 and BMW X4 is the optionally
  available BMW Drive Recorder, which takes video footage around the
  vehicle. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW Live Cockpit </strong>
  <strong>Professional</strong>
  <strong> with </strong>
  <strong>12.3</strong>
  <strong>-inch display as standard<br /></strong>With BMW Live Cockpit
  Professional as standard and intelligent networking including
  innovative digital services based on BMW Operating System 7, the BMW
  X3 and BMW X4 now offer particularly close interaction between driver
  and vehicle. The driver can configure up to ten pages of live content
  on the Control Display in the main menu, each with two to four pads
  (tiles). What’s more, greater personalisation of content and displays
  is now possible, too. Digital services include the BMW Intelligent
  Personal Assistant, Connected Music and Remote Software Upgrade. The
  system includes the iDrive operating system and the addition of a
  12.3-inch Control Display. BMW Head-Up display is also optionally available.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New generation of navigation with BMW Maps<br /></strong>One
  of the most important innovations in the area of digital services is
  BMW Maps. The cloud-based system enables significant performance
  improvement, a high degree of accuracy and simplified destination
  entry, as well as extremely fast route calculation.<br />
  <br />In addition, BMW Maps with Connected Parking provides drivers
  with even more detailed support in the search for a vacant parking
  space near their destination, while Connected Charging helps find
  charging stations for the BMW X3 xDrive30e.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Smartphone connectivity and integration of 3rd party services</strong>
  <br />BMW Live Cockpit Professional offers optimised smartphone
  integration, for example via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™. Deep
  integration of Amazon Alexa also makes it possible to use Amazon’s
  voice service inside the vehicle in the same way as the customer is
  already used to doing at home.<br />
  <br />With Digital Key, BMW is the first car manufacturer to offer its
  customers the option of using the iPhone as a fully-fledged digital
  car key. The new BMW Digital Key allows customers to unlock and lock
  their BMW by holding their iPhone to the door handle, and they can
  start the engine simply by placing the smartphone in the wireless
  charging cradle and pressing the start button.<br />
  <br />The My BMW app is available in more than 40 countries for both
  iOS and Android operating systems. As a new universal interface to the
  vehicle, it provides information about the vehicle’s condition at all
  times and also enables remote access functions.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Enhanced functionality for the BMW Intelligent Personal
  Assistant<br /></strong>The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant also
  gains additional capabilities in the BMW X3 and BMW X4, creating an
  even more intensive bond between driver and vehicle. It can now be
  used to regulate the air conditioning, open and close the windows or
  change the driving experience switch modes, for instance. The BMW
  Intelligent Personal Assistant can also be used to access the new News
  app – which enables passengers to have the latest news read out loud
  to them – and it is able to learn routines that enhance both comfort
  and driving pleasure in certain situations. For example, the side
  window on the driver’s side can be automatically opened on arrival at
  a selected location defined via GPS coordinates – such as a garage or
  car park entrance.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Remote Software Upgrade updates
  “over-the-air”<br /></strong>Thanks to Remote Software Upgrade, the
  BMW X3 and BMW X4 also remain consistently up to date with the latest
  software. The upgrades can include content ranging from new services
  to improved vehicle functions and can be downloaded “over-the-air”,
  either via the My BMW app on a smartphone or directly into the vehicle
  via the SIM card installed in it.</p>

  most recognisable Sports Activity Coupé – the BMW X4.<br />
  <br />It brings together the hallmark features of a BMW X model with
  the sporting elegance of a coupé - a formula that saw its predecessor
  achieve over 200,000 global sales since its debut in 2014. The new X4
  gains enhanced driving dynamics, standout exterior design with a
  strong coupé silhouette and even more refinement, along with
  state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and connectivity.<br />
  <br />The range is also enhanced by the addition of two new M
  Performance models – the BMW X4 M40i and M40d – to further underscore
  the high performance of the vehicle and cater to customer tastes.</p>

  <strong>
    <br />Exterior design: Muscular dynamics and
  presence.<br /></strong>The all-new BMW X4 is 81mm longer than its
  predecessor, with 54mm added to the wheelbase and 37mm extra width. It
  is also lower by 3mm. All of these elements come together to give it
  dynamically stretched proportions that emphasise its perfect 50:50
  weight distribution and hint at the enhanced performance potential. <br />
  <br />It retains the brand’s trademark BMW kidney grille and twin
  headlight units, while the new horizontal LED fog lights integrated
  into the outer air intakes form a new interpretation of the familiar X
  model face. All models feature Adaptive LED headlights as standard.<br />
  <br />The side profile is marked out by a sweeping shoulder line, with
  clearly defined haunches and distinctive wheel arches, while the lean
  coupé roofline is enhanced by a smoothly rising sill line and an
  elongated take on the Hofmeister kink “counter-swing” at the base of
  the C-pillars.<br />
  <br />Clearly structured surfaces and horizontal lines shape the car’s
  tail. The L-shaped LED rear lights, with their three-dimensional
  housing, are slim in design and positioned at the extreme edges of the
  rear. Together with the twin exhaust tailpipes (shared by all engine
  variants), they magnify the width of the rear end.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M Sport and M Sport X model variants. <br /></strong>Two
  optional model variants allow drivers to tailor the appearance of the
  all-new BMW X4 to reflect their personal tastes. Each comes with
  standalone design features as well as model-specific 19-inch
  light-alloy wheels.<br />
  <br />The M Sport model has a more dynamic look, clearly stating its
  eagerness to deliver performance on the road with its aerodynamically
  optimised front/rear aprons and side skirts, and accents in High-gloss
  Black. The newly designed M Sport X model radiates an air of
  off-road-focused sportiness, thanks to styling accents in Frozen Grey
  (a colour with rally racing connotations), as well as the individually
  designed air intakes, side skirts and rear underguard. The standard
  specification of ‘Sport’ marks the entry point to X4 ownership.<br />
  <br />In addition, the new X4 can now also be specified with options
  from the BMW Individual portfolio. Extras designed to give the
  exterior design an exceptionally exclusive feel include the BMW
  Individual paint finish Sunstone metallic and 21-inch BMW Individual
  light-alloy wheels.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Interior design:</strong>  <strong>Sporting character with a
    modern, premium feel.<br /></strong>Awaiting the driver and
  passengers inside the all-new BMW X4 is a cabin with a modern, premium
  feel, which exudes an air of high-class elegance. All the controls are
  clearly arranged, while the slightly raised seating position typical
  of BMW X models afford drivers a superb view of the road ahead.<br />
  <br />The driver-focused layout of the cockpit – a BMW tradition -
  helps to create a supremely assured and wonderfully sporty driving
  experience at all times. Redesigned sports seats with boldly contoured
  side bolsters provide outstanding lateral support even in extreme
  handling situations.<br />
  <br />Top-class materials, precise build quality and a host of
  meticulously crafted details set the tone for the modern and
  individual premium character of the X4. The surfaces of the instrument
  panel and door panels merge smoothly into one another, while the X
  logos embossed into the electroplated surfaces of the front and rear
  doors are further eye-catching details.<br />
  <br />The electric window buttons, the Start/Stop button, the
  multifunction buttons on the sports steering wheel and the controls on
  the centre console can also be embellished with galvanic detailing as
  an option. Meanwhile, ambient lighting, adding extra light sources
  around the centre console and instrument panel, in the door panelling
  and in the footwells, enhances the sense of wellbeing. The lighting
  mood can be adjusted by the driver, with a choice of six colours.<br />
  <br />Large stowage trays, roomy door pockets, cupholders and various
  storage compartments add extra practicality.<br />
  <br />The specification of each of the M Sport and M Sport X models
  includes exclusive interior design features which set them apart.<br />
  <br />The M Sport model also comes with M-specific sports seats in
  Vernasca leather, an M leather steering wheel and an
  anthracite-coloured BMW Individual headliner, complemented by interior
  trim strips in Aluminium Rhombicle with accent strips in Pearl-effect
  Chrome. The M Sport X model features all of the M Sport interior
  content with a unique Aluminium Rhombicle Dark with Pearl-effect
  Chrome accent trim.<br />
  <br />Vernasca leather upholstery is standard on all UK models and is
  now also available in Tacora Red alongside a new black with red
  contrast stitching option, both exclusive to the all-new BMW X4.<br />
  <br />The BMW Individual portfolio offers an additional number of
  model-specific options. These highly exclusive options include BMW
  Individual extended Merino leather upholstery (in the colour
  combinations Ivory White/Black, Fiona Red/Black and Tartufo/Black),
  BMW Individual interior trim in Piano Black and door sill strips with
  BMW Individual lettering. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Top-quality options for made-to-measure comfort and
  functionality.<br /></strong>A far wider choice of optional extras
  compared to the outgoing model offers greater scope for customers to
  increase both the comfort and functionality of their X4.<br />
  <br />The range includes electrically adjustable seats, heat seating
  for the front and rear and active seat ventilation. A panoramic glass
  roof with much larger dimensions than the predecessors can also be
  chosen as an option. The two-section glass has an overall length of
  924 millimetres and a width of 890 millimetres, allowing the amount of
  light in the interior and the supply of fresh air to be altered as
  required. The sun blind is electrically operated, as is the front
  section of the glass roof.<br />
  <br />The standard acoustic glass for the windscreen reduces noise
  levels while driving, while the front side windows can be specified
  with this type of glass as an option. <br />
  <br />Another new option is the BMW Display Key. Fuel level, remaining
  range and service information are all shown on its 2.2-inch touch
  display, while the key can also be used to lock the doors, close the
  windows and operate the optional auxiliary heating system. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Space to relax.<br /></strong>Three full-size seats are fitted
  in the rear compartment of the X4, providing passengers with an
  additional 27 millimetres of legroom over the previous model. The boot
  has a capacity of 525 litres and the load space can be expanded to a
  maximum of 1,430 litres by folding down the sections of the rear
  backrest, with its standard 40:20:40 split.</p>
<p>
  <br />Finally, there is also the option of Extended Storage,
  comprising of features such as additional hinged compartments, USB
  ports and 12V sockets, as well as multifunctional hooks and lashing
  rails in the boot. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Driving Experience.<br /></strong>The new X4 will be launched
  with a choice of latest-generation power units comprising of two
  diesel engines – xDrive20d and M40d. Their advanced BMW TwinPower
  Turbo technology promises dynamic power delivery accompanied by
  remarkably low fuel consumption and emissions.<br />
  <br />Joining the BMW M Performance model of the M40d will be the
  petrol-powered six-cylinder in-line engine M40i as well as another
  straight-six diesel unit - xDrive30d. All model variants direct their
  engine’s power to the road via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission
  and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive as standard, resulting in
  effortless progress over smooth roads and rough terrain alike. Gear
  selections can be made manually using the shift paddles on the
  steering wheel.<br />
  <br />The BMW M Performance models and the BMW X4 xDrive30d are
  equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission offering
  exceptionally fast gear changes as well as a Launch Control function.
  The standard-fit Driving Experience Control switch lets drivers choose
  from SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO set-ups, while the BMW X4 M40i, BMW X4
  M40d and BMW X4 xDrive30d models also add a SPORT+ mode.<br />
  <br />The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for the petrol engine
  comprises a twin-scroll turbocharger, High Precision Injection,
  VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable
  camshaft control. On the diesel side, the raft of technological
  measures includes turbochargers with variable inlet geometry and
  common-rail direct injection systems operating at pressures of up to
  2,500 bar. The system of emission control for the petrol engine
  includes a particulate filter that cuts down particulate emissions,
  while the diesel models boast BMW BluePerformance technology
  comprising a particulate filter, an oxidation catalyst, a NOx
  adsorption catalyst, as well as an SCR catalyst with AdBlue injection.  <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Reduced weight, enhanced aerodynamic
  properties. <br /></strong>An intelligent material mix has made it
  possible to bring about a substantial weight saving, not just in the
  chassis design but also in the body’s construction and other areas.<br />
  <br />BMW EfficientLightweight measures include a further increase in
  the proportion of aluminium as well as high-strength and
  ultra-high-strength grades of steel. The body structure is more solid
  than ever, serving up benefits for both vehicle agility and occupant
  protection. At the same time, the all-new BMW X4 weighs up to 50kg
  less than its predecessor (allowing for equipment variations and
  depending on the engine variant). The car has a significantly lower
  centre of gravity than the new X3, and this enhances the Sports
  Activity Coupé’s cornering dynamics, in particular.<br />
  <br />Another factor contributing to the BMW X4’s dynamics and
  efficiency is a reduction in aerodynamic drag of around 10 per cent.
  This advance has been achieved by streamlining the body at the same
  time as incorporating a raft of additional measures, including active
  air flap control, the ‘Air Curtains’ in the front apron and additional
  underbody cladding. The X4 sets a new benchmark in its segment with a
  drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.30.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW xDrive: precise distribution of power with optimal
  efficiency. <br /></strong>The versatile sportiness of the X4 is down
  in no small part to the standard BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system.<br />
  <br />The latest generation of the system adds less weight, while its
  internal efficiency has been increased. Plus, the wonderfully precise
  electronic control of the intelligent all- wheel drive also splits
  drive power to maximise sporting performance; the rear-biased set-up
  produces a highly rewarding driving experience, especially when
  powering through corners. <br />
  <br />Besides offering superior handling stability, BMW xDrive also
  enhances traction over loose terrain, endowing the X4 with off-road
  capability. With a ground clearance of 204 millimetres, a fording
  depth of 500 millimetres, breakover angle of 19.4° and angles of
  approach and departure of 25.7° and 22.6° respectively, the Sports
  Activity Coupé takes everything in its stride, from crests and bumps
  in the road to gravel tracks, deep snow and steep slopes when leaving
  the asphalt behind.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>First-class chassis technology with bespoke set-up.
  </strong> <br />The all-new BMW X4 boasts a marked increase in agility
  combined with a high degree of ride comfort, courtesy of chassis
  technology that has been systematically refined and honed for the
  specific requirements of the Sports Activity Coupé.<br />
  <br />The design principle of a double-joint spring strut axle at the
  front and five-link rear axle forms the ideal basis for a blend of
  dynamism and comfort, whilst the use of aluminium swivel bearings,
  lightweight tubular anti-roll bars and new wheel location components
  at the front axle has brought about a considerable reduction in
  unsprung mass.<br />
  <br />Standard specification for the all-new BMW X4 includes not only
  M Sport suspension but also variable sport steering. Specially tuned
  to deliver extra-dynamic handling qualities, this version of the
  Electric Power Steering system ensures precision through keenly taken
  corners and supreme straight-line stability. The speed-sensitive
  Servotronic power assistance, meanwhile, makes light work of manoeuvring. <br />
  <br />The car’s impressively sporty and sure-footed handling
  characteristics are further helped by the powerful lightweight braking
  system and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, whose features
  includes an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control
  (DTC), Automatic Differential Brake (ADB-X), Cornering Brake Control
  (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Start-Off Assistant and Hill
  Descent Control (HDC).<br />
  <br />The Performance Control function, also included as standard,
  gives the X4 even sharper handling by varying the distribution of
  drive torque to the rear wheels according to the situation at hand.
  18-inch light-alloy wheels also form part of standard specification,
  while further wheel options up to 21 inches in size can be found on
  the list of extras.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Customised dynamic driving: M Sport brakes, Adaptive
  Suspension. <br /></strong>The optional M Sport brakes (standard on
  xDrive30d M Sport, M Sport X and M Performance Models) allow drivers
  to enjoy exceptionally dynamic handling with phenomenal stopping power.<br />
  <br />The system comprises of extra-large brake discs and blue-painted
  callipers. The various suspension systems that are optionally
  available include Adaptive Suspension, featuring electronically
  controlled dampers, the responses of which adjust to the nature of the
  road and driving style. Drivers can choose between a sportier or more
  comfortable basic setting by activating the relevant performance maps
  using the Driving Experience Control switch. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW X4 M40i and BMW X4 M40d – a dynamic
  duo. <br /></strong>The model line-up is spearheaded by a dynamic duo
  that gives the BMW X4 an extra edge. There are now two BMW M
  Performance models available for the first time, their exclusive
  status is rooted not just in their six-cylinder in-line engines, but
  also in chassis technology that has been precisely tuned to handle the
  high drive power, and model-specific design and equipment features
  both inside and out.</p>
<p>
  <br />A six-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the all-new BMW X4 M40i
  and a straight-six diesel unit in the all-new BMW X4 M40d provide the
  underpinnings for an exhilarating form of driving pleasure.  The
  engines under the bonnets of the two BMW M Performance Automobiles
  stand out with their instantaneous response and tireless power delivery.<br />
  <br />With its trademark free-revving performance, maximum output of
  360hp and peak torque of 500Nm, the power unit in the X4 M40i enables
  it to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Combined
  fuel consumption stands at 31.4mpg imp*, equating to CO2 emissions of 209g/km.*<br />
  <br />The all-new BMW X4 M40d makes its mark on the road with
  prodigious pulling power. Its BMW M Performance diesel engine
  generates output of 326hp and peak torque of 680Nm. The BMW X4 M40d
  darts to 62mph from rest in 4.9 seconds, but also blends its sporty
  essence with excellent efficiency, as demonstrated by average fuel
  consumption of 44.1mpg and a CO2 figure of 170g/km.*<br />
  <br />
  <strong>BMW X4 xDrive30d and BMW X4 xDrive20d: efficient pulling
  power.<br /></strong>A latest-generation six-cylinder in-line diesel
  engine gives the all-new BMW X4 xDrive30d vast reserves of pulling power.<br />
  <br />The maximum output of 265hp and peak torque of 620Nm propel it
  to 62mph from rest in 5.8 seconds, with combined fuel consumption of
  47.9mpg*, equating to CO2 emissions of 156g/km*.<br />
  <br />The X4 xDrive20d is powered by a 190hp diesel engine whose
  torque peaks at 400Nm. It accelerates in 8.0 seconds from zero to
  62mph and returns an average consumption of 52.3mpg and CO2 emissions
  of 142g/km*. </p>
<p>
  * Provisional fuel consumption and emissions figures as per the
    EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified.<br />
    <br />
  <strong>M sports exhaust system produces unmistakable sound, M Sport
    differential serves up dynamic cornering. <br /></strong>The
  sensational power delivery of the six-cylinder in-line engines is
  accompanied by a soundtrack to match. The flap-controlled M sports
  exhaust system on the BMW M Performance models doesn’t just make a
  great impression acoustically, its trapezoidal tailpipes in black
  chrome form a stunning visual highlight. <br />
  <br />Power is relayed to the wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic
  Sport transmission including standard Launch Control. The sporty
  nature of the two BMW M Performance models is further helped by the
  rear- biased set-up of the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive and the
  Performance Control function. The M Sport differential (also standard)
  generates a precise locking effect at the rear wheels, priming the car
  perfectly to power out of corners.<br />
  <strong>
    <br />Assistance Systems: Innovations for comfortable, safe
  motoring.<br /></strong>The X4 comes with the latest version of the
  iDrive operating system, designed to offer even more flexible and
  ergonomic control of vehicle, navigation, communication and
  infotainment functions.<br />

  select and manoeuvre into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.
  The system comprises Top View, Panorama View and 3D View functions,
  which combine to depict a 360º image of the vehicle and the
  surrounding area on the Control Display. The Remote 3D View function
  additionally gives drivers the ability to call up a three-dimensional
  live image of their vehicle and its immediate vicinity on their smartphone.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Intelligent connectivity. <br /></strong>The state-of-the-art
  character of the X4 shines through in the wealth of digital services
  on offer through BMW ConnectedDrive. Intelligent connectivity between
  car, driver and the outside world increases the level of both driving
  pleasure and comfort, expands the infotainment offer and assists with
  journey planning. <br />
  <br />Using a flexible Open Mobility Cloud platform, BMW Connected
  works alongside Apple iPhones and Watches, smartphones and
  smartwatches running the Android operating system, and the Amazon
  Alexa voice-controlled personal assistants.<br />
  <br />BMW Connected enables route planning to be carried out on any
  device, based on calendar entries, while taking real-time traffic
  information into account and making allowance for a refuelling stop if
  necessary. It then transfers the data to the car’s navigation system
  when it is time to set off. A message notifying the user of the ideal
  departure time is sent to their smartphone or chosen device. In
  addition, the personal mobility assistant also lets customers call up
  vehicle data such as fuel level and range via their device or lock the
  vehicle via Remote Services, a feature which comes as standard.<br />
  <br />Other features of BMW Connected+ offer an even greater degree of
  personalisation with new functions, including sharing of the current
  trip status by text message and live link (Share Live Trip Status),
  and seamless transfer of route guidance to a smartphone or smartwatch
  once the car has been parked, allowing full Door-to-Door navigation.<br />
  <br />The standard built-in SIM card also allows drivers to use both
  Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic location and accident
  severity detection, and BMW Teleservices.<br />
  <br />With the new BMW Teleservice Accident Assistance, the vehicle
  also detects low-speed collisions below the threshold for airbag
  deployment. The driver receives a message in the iDrive display
  offering to contact the BMW Accident Assistance service directly. A
  push of a button is all it takes to obtain professional support from
  the BMW Accident Assistance team, who put the customer in touch with a
  BMW Service Partner if necessary. Also available as options are a WiFi
  hotspot enabling rapid online connectivity for digital devices, along
  with wireless charging for compatible smartphones.<br />
  <br />The standard ConnectedDrive services provide the basis for
  accessing features such as Real Time Traffic Information and On-Street
  Parking Information. They are also required for using the optional
  Concierge Services, Online Entertainment service and wireless Apple
  CarPlay. <br />
  <br />BMW is the first carmaker to offer a secure server connection
  for exchanging and editing emails, calendar entries and contact
  details, thanks to the Microsoft Office 365 function that users can
  select from the ConnectedDrive Store. This means that addresses from
  appointment entries can be imported straight into the navigation
  system and telephone numbers can be dialled from an integrated mobile
  phone. <br />

  boasts an excellent position in the all-wheel-drive market, a segment
  it first entered 30 years ago. Around one in three BMW cars sold
  around the world is now equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive
  all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s success in this segment has been driven
  not only by the ever-popular BMW X models but also by all-wheel-drive
  models based on the other model series, from the BMW 1 Series to the
  BMW 7 Series. Across these model series, a large choice of AWD models
  is offered in a wide range of engine versions. At the same time, BMW
  continues to refine this technology and take it in new directions. By
  offering BMW xDrive in combination with a hybrid drive and with a
  front-wheel-drive platform, the company has repeatedly demonstrated
  its proficiency in the all-wheel-drive field, proficiency that will
  secure BMW’s position at the forefront of this sector well into the
  future. Today, BMW offers more than 110 models – of either
  transmission type – with BMW xDrive in 12 different model series, as
  well as the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car and the compact BMW 225xe
  with electrified all-wheel drive.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>The focus from day one: traction and dynamics.</strong></span>
  <span>
    <br /></span>BMW’s first foray into the all-wheel-drive market came
  with the unveiling of the BMW 325i “Allrad” at the Frankfurt Motor
  Show (IAA) in 1985. From the outside, the newcomer didn’t immediately
  reveal its inner qualities, so its performance when the journalists
  took it out on the test track was even more of an eye-opener. This
  very first BMW all-wheel-drive system not only improved traction away
  from surfaced roads and in adverse weather conditions, but also made
  for more dynamic handling through corners. “The new BMW is the new
  champion when it comes to handling,” was the verdict of the testers
  from German car magazine Auto Zeitung not long after the first unveiling.</p>
<p>Today, the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system takes
  typical BMW driving dynamics to new levels. The current generation of
  this system is controlled by the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM)
  system, which ensures that xDrive always responds appropriately at the
  earliest possible moment, based on reliable sensing and monitoring of
  the current driving situation. The interventions may be performed
  either entirely by BMW xDrive, or by xDrive in combination with
  Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Performance Control (DPC).
  The resulting fast and precise control of drive power distribution
  ensures typical BMW handling characteristics even under extremely
  dynamic cornering.</p>
<p>The all-wheel-drive system is biased towards the typical BMW
  rear-wheel-drive characteristics. That is to say, on the
  all-wheel-drive models a greater share of the drive power is sent to
  the rear wheels, even under normal driving conditions. This maintains
  the typical BMW precise steering response, with virtually no torque
  steer. For crisp turn-in and high tracking stability, the
  latest-generation BMW xDrive system starts increasing the amount of
  power sent to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a corner,
  further enhancing the driving pleasure for which BMW is a byword.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>BMW all-wheel-drive technology: continuous evolution since 1985.</strong></span>
  <br />The full-time all-wheel-drive system featured on the BMW 325i
  “Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent
  between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed
  differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential
  were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the
  front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability.
  This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was
  offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and
  including the E46 series).</p>
<p>
  <strong>1991: BMW 525iX.</strong>
  <br />Three years on, BMW introduced an all-wheel-drive model in the
  BMW 5 Series too. For the first time, the power split was now
  electronically controlled. The newly developed system featured
  multi-plate clutches that allowed the default 36:64 front-to-rear
  power split to be varied seamlessly and automatically in line with
  driving conditions. Initially a hydraulically controlled multi-plate
  clutch was used at the rear axle, but this was later replaced by
  electronically controlled selective braking intervention. The system
  monitored the driving situation using wheel speed signals from the
  Anti-lock Braking System, supplemented by further information about
  brake status, engine speed and throttle valve position.</p>
<p>From the outset the all-wheel-drive system of the BMW 525iX was a
  class apart. The electronic control system delivered a very fast and
  precise response, resulting in safe, neutral handling characteristics
  even in difficult driving conditions, such as on wet roads or snow. In
  the BMW 5 Series, too, the first all-wheel-drive models were offered
  in both Sedan and touring versions.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>1999: The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) opens a new chapter.</strong></span>
  <br />In the run-up to the new millennium, a highly innovative vehicle
  concept from BMW made its sensational debut. The BMW X5, the first
  Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), impressed customers with driving
  dynamics that were unmatched among other all-terrain vehicles of the
  time. The outstanding all-wheel-drive system played a big part in
  this. A planetary gear system split the drive power in a ratio of
  38:62 per cent between the front and rear wheels, while electronic
  control systems such as DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ADB-X
  (Automatic Differential Brake) and HDC (Hill Descent Control) ensured
  the new BMW X5 was both sporty on the road and equipped to handle
  challenging conditions off the beaten track.</p>
<p>In the years following the successful launch of the SAV concept,
  there was no let-up in the fast pace of all-wheel-drive development at
  BMW. The next year, 2000, a model-specific version of the BMW X5’s
  all-wheel drive technology became available for the fourth generation
  of the BMW 3 Series.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>2003: BMW xDrive makes its debut in the BMW X3 and BMW X5.</strong></span>
  <br />Four years on from the debut of the BMW X5 in 1999, BMW kept up
  the momentum by launching the SAV concept in a further vehicle
  segment. The new BMW X3 was more compact than the BMW X5 and offered
  even more agile handling. It set new benchmarks and remained the only
  premium model in its class for years to come.</p>
<p>The newly developed BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which was
  introduced in the same year in both the BMW X3 and the BMW X5, soon
  extended BMW’s lead in the AWD segment. Based on an extremely
  fast-acting electronic multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, xDrive
  worked in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) to
  continuously adapt the drive power split to the current driving
  situation. In addition to wheel speed, for the first time the
  electronic control system also took into account Dynamic Stability
  Control data, for example about steering angle, accelerator position
  and lateral acceleration. This is what makes BMW xDrive the world’s
  first, and still only, “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system. Unlike
  conventional all-wheel-drive systems, which only react when at least
  one wheel is already spinning, xDrive is able to detect a risk of
  oversteer or understeer at the very first signs, and proactively
  corrects this by redirecting the flow of drive power.</p>
<p>In the years that followed, the BMW xDrive intelligent
  all-wheel-drive system was fitted not only on the X models but also on
  the xDrive versions of the BMW 3 and 5 Series Sedan and Touring
  models. By the time the second generation of the BMW X3 was introduced
  in 2010, more than 600,000 units of this series had already been sold
  worldwide. A little earlier, sales of the BMW X5 – which entered its
  second generation in 2006 – had topped the one million mark.</p>
<p>
  <strong>2008: SAC with Dynamic Performance Control and hybrid
  drive</strong>. <br />With the two Sports Activity Vehicles now firmly
  established in their respective segments, in 2007 BMW went on to
  present the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe. Unveiled at the
  Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the brand-new BMW X6 elevated the typical
  dynamic character of the BMW X models to a new level of intensity. For
  the first time, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system was combined
  with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which varies the drive power
  split between the rear wheels when cornering to ensure unrivalled
  agility and stability, even under sudden throttle changes or on
  overrun. In 2009, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstrated a further
  perfect pairing – between BMW xDrive and hybrid propulsion. Meanwhile,
  in the same year, BMW M GmbH added two very special models to its
  range of high-performance sports cars. With an M-tuned BMW xDrive
  system, including Dynamic Performance Control, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6
  M boasted performance that was previously unknown in the
  all-wheel-drive market.</p>
<p>2009 also saw the arrival of a new X model, the BMW X1. For many
  years to come, the BMW X1 was destined to remain the only vehicle of
  its kind in the premium compact segment. Its intelligent BMW xDrive
  all-wheel-drive system, like that of the new BMW X3 (2010), was also
  combinable with Performance Control. This system selectively brakes
  the wheel on the inside of a turn while simultaneously increasing
  engine power, resulting in quick and precise turn-in to corners and
  taking the agile handling of both models to new levels.</p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW xDrive also available for other model series.</strong>
  <br />The steady advance of the BMW X models has been accompanied by
  an increase in the number of xDrive versions offered in the other BMW
  model series too. Designed to improve cornering agility and precision,
  BMW xDrive provides an enhanced driving experience and an optimal
  combination of dynamics and comfort. So it was only a matter of time
  before this intelligent drive technology made its debut in the BMW 7
  Series as well, in 2009. In spring 2012, the first all-wheel-drive
  Coupe and Convertible models were then offered in the sporty BMW 6
  Series. BMW xDrive can also be specified on the current BMW 3 and 5
  Series and, since 2013, on the Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe
  models of the new BMW 4 Series.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Driving progress ever forward.</strong>
  <br />BMW took things forward in the premium mid-sized segment with
  the launch of the BMW X4 in 2014. The new Sports Activity Coupe offers
  a unique blend of driving enjoyment, sophisticated style and
  contemporary practicality. It comes with BMW xDrive as standard and is
  available in a wide range of engine versions. In the same year, BMW
  also presented the third generation of the BMW X5, the second
  generation of the BMW X6, and M Sport versions of both models. BMW
  xDrive also made its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This
  was a debut with a difference, being the first time BMW had combined
  its intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an all-new
  front-wheel-drive format.</p>
<p>With the BMW i8, unveiled in 2014, the BMW Group took a bold new step
  in new directions – which also extended to the all-wheel-drive system.
  This 2+2-seater sports model is powered by a highly advanced plug-in
  hybrid drive system that pairs an internal combustion engine driving
  the rear wheels with a high-performance electric motor driving the
  front wheels.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Focused on the future: BMW xDrive meets BMW eDrive.</strong>
  <br />BMW’s latest all-wheel-drive models bring technology advances
  that are firmly focused on the future of mobility. The BMW i8 was
  followed by the international launch of the first production plug-in
  hybrid model from the BMW core brand: the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Thanks to
  full-time BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive and eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics
  technology, this Sports Activity Vehicle mates thrilling and
  effortless sporty performance with outstanding efficiency. Intelligent
  hybrid power management synchronises the operation of the internal
  combustion engine and the electric motor to maximise efficiency at all
  times, while also responding perfectly to the driver’s demands. The
  drive from the two power units is transferred to the road via the
  full-time BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.</p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW 7 Series: Integral Active Steering combinable with BMW xDrive.</strong>
  <br />In September 2015, the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series
  makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This high-end
  BMW luxury model pioneers groundbreaking innovations on all fronts,
  and will be available with BMW xDrive from its market launch in
  October. The new luxury sedan will also be the first model to allow
  intelligent all-wheel-drive to be combined with Integral Active
  Steering – that is to say with passively steering rear wheels.</p>

  spectacular BMWs drive up the famous 1.16 mile hill.  BMW’s most
  advanced sport car ever, the new BMW i8, will be seen for the first
  time in the UK along with the BMW M5 30 Jahre Edition – the most
  powerful production car in the history of the brand.  With a special
  M4 Coupé in action too, and a line-up of the hottest new BMW M cars on
  stand, this summer’s Festival promises one of the most exciting
  displays ever for the Bavarian manufacturer.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new BMW i8 will steer its way up Goodwood’s hill, showcasing the
  searing acceleration of the new plug-in hybrid sport car. The BMW i8
  uses a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, with a 1.5-litre
  capacity, in conjunction with an electric motor that takes BMW’s
  EfficientDynamics philosophy to a new high. Utilising both power
  sources enables the sprint from zero to 62mph to take just
  4.4 seconds, going on to an electronically limited top speed of
  155mph.  All the while combined fuel consumption stands at 135mpg and
  CO2 emissions come in at 49g/km.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>With the introduction of optional BMW laser headlights, the BMW i8 is
  the world’s first production car to offer this innovative lighting
  technology. The BMW i8 launches in the UK in July 2014,  costs £99,845
  OTR and will qualify for a HM Governement Plug-In Car grant of £5,000.
  At the wheel of the BMW i8 in the ‘Supercar’ category will be British
  born factory BMW GT driver, Alexander Sims.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>The BMW M5 30 Jahre Edition</strong></p>
<p>To celebrate 30 years of the BMW M5, BMW has created an exclusive,
  special-edition of the current, fifth-generation model boasting
  performance that sets it apart from its stablemates. The BMW M5 30
  Jahre Edition (30 years of the M5) will be produced in a limited run
  of just 300 vehicles worldwide. Only 30 cars will come to the UK.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Developing 600hp and peak torque of 700Nm, this special-edition
  (combined fuel consumption 28.5mpg; CO2 emissions: 231g/km) is not
  only the most powerful BMW M5 ever to emerge from series production
  under the auspices of BMW M, but also the most powerful production car
  in the history of the brand. The M5 30 Jahre Edition sprints from zero
  to 62mph in a lightning fast 3.9 seconds. Its BMW Individual-inspired
  looks and dynamic and comfort-enhancing equipment make this special
  edition M5 set to be a highly desirable collector’s item.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The M5 30 Jahre Edition represents a new high point in 30 years of
  success that began at BMW Motorsport GmbH in Munich in 1984, and
  continues to raise the pulses of car fans around the world today. It
  is on sale now and costs £91,890 OTR. At the helm of the BMW M5 in the
  ‘First Glance’ category at Goodwood will be one of the UK’s best ever
  international racing drivers, Steve Soper.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>An Individual M4 in action</strong></p>
<p>The first ever BMW Individual M4 Coupé built for the UK will premiere
  at Goodwood. The Tanzanite Blue metallic Coupé will be the first M4
  built in a BMW Individual colour and with a Merino leather upholstery
  interior from the BMW Individual Collection.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Components from the new BMW M Performance Accessories range, which
  launches on 12 September 2014, have been provided to significantly add
  to the M4’s aerodynamic and athletic appearance. These include a
  carbon-fibre front splitter, carbon-fibre rear spoiler, carbon-fibre
  rear diffuser and carbon-fibre wing mirrors. The distinctive look is
  complemented by the M Performance sports exhaust, with Titanium
  exhaust trims, and by interior enhancements including an Alcantara
  steering wheel with race display.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>Built especially in time for the Festival of Speed, the vehicle’s
  specification was chosen by fans of ‘PistonHeads.com’ and two lucky
  competition winners will drive the car up the hill as part of the
  Moving Motor Show. During the Festival, in the ‘First Glance’
  category, the car will be driven by one of the UK’s best known
  television presenters and ex-racing driver, Tiff Needell.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Two UK premieres and a packed BMW stand</strong></p>
<p>The BMW Pavilion will host the fifth-generation of the iconic
  high-performance sports car from BMW M. The new BMW M3 Saloon and new
  BMW M4 Coupé will entice visitors to an already exciting stand
  featuring the BMW i8, the special anniversary M5 30 Jahre Edition,
  other models from the company’s M division, and two UK premieres.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Also on show is the eagerly anticipated new BMW M4 Convertible - the
  fifth-generation high-performance open-top car of its kind. Powered by
  the same 431hp M TwinPower Turbo in-line six-cylinder engine as the M3
  Saloon and M4 Coupé, the Convertible offers the option of six-speed
  manual or seven-speed M Double Clutch transmissions.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The M4 Convertible exhibits all the hallmarks of a car created by
  BMW’s high-performance specialists – lightweight engineering,
  carefully honed aerodynamics, advanced race-derived chassis tuning and
  electronic driver assistance technologies and a sporty elegant
  profile, open or closed. The BMW M4 Convertible launches in the UK on
  6 September 2014, priced at £60,745 OTR.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>On stand too will be the new BMW X4. It combines the hallmark
  features of the BMW X family with the sporting elegance of a classical
  coupé, resulting in BMW’s first Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) for the
  premium mid-size segment. The BMW X4 arrives in dealerships on 12 July
  2014 and will be priced from £36,595 OTR for an X4 xDrive20d SE.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Whilst Alexander Sims, Tiff Needell and Steve Soper will all be
  aiming for a quick run up the hill, they will also be in the BMW
  Pavilion for interviews and autographs. They will be joined by
  legendary Formula 1 commentator, Murray Walker OBE, and by presenter
  for BT Vision’s Premier League football coverage, Jake Humphreys.
  Visitors with a culinary interest will also be in for a treat: the BMW
  Pavilion will also host one of the world’s best chefs, Jason Atherton,
  for a series of interviews.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Once again this year, BMW and MINI owners will be able to access the
  exclusive BMW Owners’ Lounge, on the first floor of the Pavilion, by
  presenting their keys at the entrance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Visitors will also be able to view the BMW Dashboard – an imposing 10
  metre LED screen that will form the main focal point of the BMW
  Pavilion. This will contain live feeds from Instagram, Twitter, show
  weather updates and will also be interspersed with interesting BMW and
  Goodwood facts. Performance-oriented fans will be able to play on a
  BMW simulator game pod, whilst fans of BMW M will be able to enjoy the
  Heritage totem – an interactive totem that takes visitors through the
  history of BMW M.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Representing BMW Group UK at Goodwood will be Martin Harrison, Media
  Relations Officer on 07815 377083, who will be available to answer
  media enquiries. </p>

  with the sporting elegance of a classical coupé, resulting in BMW’s
  first Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) for the premium mid-size segment.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Its dynamic pedigree is underlined by a wide range of cutting-edge
  high-performance engines, the xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a high
  level of standard equipment. A choice of three diesel engines, a
  comprehensive package of BMW EfficientDynamics measures and the
  extensive connectivity provided by BMW ConnectedDrive are all elements
  in a driving experience allows sporty performance and incredible efficiency.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>At 4,671 millimetres in length, it is just 14 millimetres longer than
  the X3, but at 1,624mm high it is also 36 millimetres lower to the
  ground and cuts a dynamic profile with its perfectly balanced
  proportions and distinctive sporting character.</p>

<p>
  <strong>Design</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW X4 follows in the footsteps of the BMW X6, visually
  combining the character of a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) with the
  sporting elegance of a classic coupé to create an unmistakable
  presence on the road.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Based on the same platform as the BMW X3, the BMW X4 displays a
  sporting character of its own.  The large air intakes positioned on
  the outer edges of the front end and the character lines in the front
  apron lend the X4 a more muscular and agile appearance. This lowers
  the car’s visual centre of gravity, signalling its sharper dynamics.
  The effect is further enhanced by the fog lamps sited below the
  signature twin headlights.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The coupé-like roofline reaches its highest point over the front
  seats, reflecting the traditional driver focus of BMW cars, before
  dropping gently down towards the trailing edge of the boot lid. The
  standalone design of the BMW X4 is further reinforced by the fresh
  interpretation of the signature swage line running along the flanks of
  BMW models.  For the first time this is split into two the first
  section rises smoothly from the front wheel arches to the rear door
  handles, while the second part accentuates the powerful sculpting of
  the rear wings.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The contoured C-pillars, muscular shoulders and the broad and low-set
  rear end, hints at the performance of the BMW X4 before the engine has
  even been started.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The interior of the new BMW X4 reveals a harmonious synthesis of
  sportiness and exclusivity. The driver focused cabin uses premium
  materials including subtle electroplated accents, a high-gloss
  black-panel look and aluminium trim strips in the wood panelling to
  create a luxurious ambiance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The driver and front passenger sit 20mm lower and the rear passengers
  28mm lower than in a BMW X3, accentuating the classic coupé feeling.
   It is a sensation reinforced by the rear bench seat, which comes with
  the type of continuously moulded side support normally only provided
  by two individual seats, but still offers space for three passengers.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The BMW X4 has a load capacity of between 500 and1,400 litres which,
  thanks to the standard 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats, can be used
  in a wide variety of ways. Everyday usability is further enhanced by
  the standard-fit automatically opening tailgate.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Equipment levels</strong></p>
<p>The BMW X4 offers a level of standard equipment well above that found
  on the BMW X3. As standard it comes with an automatically opening
  tailgate, Variable Sport Steering, 18-inch light-alloy wheels, front
  and rear Park Distance Control, Performance Control and Xenon
  headlights.  Inside the BMW X4 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats, a
  Sport leather steering wheel, Heated front seats and BMW Business
  Media package are all standard.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>For an additional £1,500 the xLine trim level will also be available
  on the BMW X4.  This includes an exclusive18-inch light-alloy wheel,
  Satin Aluminium exterior trim, Dark Copper interior trim, Sport seats
  and exclusive xLine leather upholstery.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The popular M Sport model costs an additional £3,000 over the SE and
  offers even greater dynamics and visually boosts the X4’s sporting
  appeal.   The M Aerodynamic bodystyling, High-gloss Shadow Line trim
  exterior trim and an exclusive 19-inch M Sport light-alloy wheels
  lends the BMW X4 an even more sporty appearance, while the M Sport
  suspension enhances the ride.  BMW M door sill finishers, Sport seats
  and an Aluminium Hexagon interior trim add the finishing touches.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>Handling: comfortable ride with agile handling</strong></p>
<p>All BMW X4 models have a sporty suspension set-up and come with BMW’s
  intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system as standard. This ensures
  that the drive is split between the rear wheels continuously and as
  required, which further improves traction, turn-in and directional
  stability. Working in tandem with the standard Variable Sport
  Steering, these systems allow the BMW X4 to deliver driving dynamics
  that surpass even those of the BMW X3 in terms of sportiness. An
  xDrive status display uses three-dimensional graphics to keep the
  driver informed of the car’s body roll and pitch.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>Engines</strong></p>
<p>From launch the new BMW X4 will be available with a choice three
  diesel engines, all of which meet the EU6 standards. BMW TwinPower
  Turbo technology ensures that performance is maintained while fuel
  consumption and CO2 emissions are kept to a minimum.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The BMW X4 xDrive20d is powered by a newly developed 2.0-litre diesel
  engine with an all-aluminium construction. This power unit develops
  190hp at 4,000rpm with a peak torque of 400Nm. As a result, the X4
  xDrive20d requires just 8.0 seconds to sprint from zero to 62mph. The
  BMW X4 xDrive20d comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox but
  can be optionally specified with an the eight-speed automatic
  transmission which brings fuel consumption down to 54.3mpg and sets
  the CO2 emission at 138g/km.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine in the BMW X4 xDrive30d,
  paired with the standard eight-speed Sport automatic transmission,
  returns a combined mpg of 47.9 while CO2 emissions are just 156 g/km.
   These parsimonious emissions don’t impact the performance with the
  engine outputting 258hp at 4,000rpm with a peak torque of 560Nm from
  as low as 1,500rpm, while it accelerates from zero to 62mph in 5.8 seconds.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The xDrive35d engine tops the BMW X4 line-up. The 3.0-litre diesel
  delivers 313hp and puts a peak torque of 630Nm on tap from between
  1,500 and 2,500rpm. With its standard-fitted Launch Control, the X4
  xDrive35d launches from zero to 62mph in a mere 5.2 seconds and goes
  onto a top speed of 153mph. However, the X4 xDrive35d still posts fuel
  consumption of just 47.1mpg and emits only 157g/km CO2.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>EfficientDynamics </strong></p>
<p>The unparalleled suite of EfficientDynamics technologies also
  minimises the fuel consumption and emissions of the new BMW X4.
  Features such as Auto Start- Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and
  on-demand operation of ancillary units are standard across the range.
  Optionally available are 17-inch aero wheels with
  reduced-rolling-resistance tyres, which reduce the CO2 emissions of
  the BMW X4 xDrive20d and xDrive30d by a further 7g/km.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The BMW Driving Assistant offers additional potential for fuel
  saving. This technology uses route data supplied by the car’s
  navigation system to identify situations in advance which will require
  the car to slow down – e.g. on the way into towns and villages, speed
  limits etc. – and gives suitable recommendations.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW ConnectedDrive</strong></p>
<p>The BMW ConnectedDrive features available for the new BMW X4 offer
  class-leading technology in the link-up of driver, vehicle and the
  outside world.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Providing added safety and greater convenience in the BMW X4 is the
  optional full-colour Head-up Display, which projects all important
  driving information and the assistance system displays into the
  driver’s field of vision. The latest-generation Professional
  Multimedia Navigation system, with ECO PRO route guidance, now teams
  up with the iDrive Touch Controller. Safety and convenience can be
  further enhanced by option including the anti-dazzle High-beam
  Assistant, Driving Assistant Plus including Pedestrian and Collision
  Warning with City Braking function, Active Cruise Control with Stop
  and Go function and Lane Departure Warning.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The optional BMW ConnectedDrive services allow customers to access
  smartphone applications such as AUPEO! or Deezer as well as innovative
  mobility services via the built-in SIM card.  Remote Services and Real
  Time Traffic Information (RTTI) can likewise be used from the comfort
  of the car.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Online Entertainment provides direct access to music services such as
  rara or Napster with their millions of music tracks as well as
  audiobooks. The intelligent e-Call function is triggered automatically
  or can be used manually to alert the authorities. As soon as the crash
  sensors report an airbag deployment, the system sends the vehicle
  location and all key information to the BMW Call Centre via the
  built-in SIM card, enabling fast and effective assistance at the
  accident location.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>The BMW X4 arrives in dealerships on 12 July, 2014 and will be priced
  from £36,590 OTR for an X4 xDrive20d SE.</p>
