represent the pinnacle of the M GmbH model line-up, reinforcing the
brand’s strong presence in the luxury segment with their unrivalled
blend of performance, prestige and presence.<br />
<br />BMW M GmbH has sharpened the trio of high-performance luxury
sports cars to provide an even greater driving experience compared to
the previous M8, introducing upgrades to their control and operation
technology as well as a raft of design enhancements.<br />
<br />Available in three body styles, the latest edition of the BMW M8
makes its mark with new additions to the range of exterior colours and
M light alloy wheels. M lights Shadow Line will be available for the
luxurious high-performance models via the Visibility Pack for the
first time, opening up extra scope for individualising their
appearance. The dark finish for the inlays and chrome detailing inside
the headlight units help to give the front end an eye-catching and
sporty feel, an effect enhanced by the standard High-gloss Black
finish for the BMW kidney grille surround.<br />
<br />Meanwhile, full Merino leather/Alcantara upholstery in the new
Black/Sakhir Orange colour scheme brings even more contemporary style
to the interior. The BMW iDrive operating system now also comes with a
larger 12.3-inch Central Information touchscreen display for greater
  ease of use.<br />
<br />Naturally, the new flagship M model complements its
comprehensive specification with motorsport-bred performance. Power is
provided by a 4.4-litre V8 engine with its 625hp transmitted to the
road via the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and
  the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.<br />
<br />The new M8 Competition makes its debut in Spring and is priced
from £123,300 RRP and is available to order now.<br />
  <br />
<strong>BMW M GmbH developed drivetrain optimises performance and
poise<br /></strong>Powertrain and chassis technology engineered to
deliver an exhilarating driving experience is a key element of all
three versions of the M8 Competition. The formidable performance is
generated by a V8 4.4-litre engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology
that develops 625hp and peak torque of 750Nm. In customary M fashion,
the engine’s appetite for revs enables it to produce high levels of
torque over a wide rpm band, while an eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system
ensure this power is channelled to the road to optimum effect. These
powertrain elements work together with great precision to deliver
phenomenal performance – such as 0-62mph acceleration in just 3.2
seconds (BMW M8 Competition Coupé and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé)
  or 3.3 seconds (BMW M8 Competition Convertible).</p>

<br />Chassis technology developed using expertise from motorsport and
tuned for each specific model ensures the harmonious mix of
excitement, agility and precision that marks out the handling of cars
from BMW M. Experience garnered in the development of the BMW M8 GTE
racing car was also brought to bear here.<br />
  <br />
<strong>Eight new exterior colours, premiere for M lights Shadow
  Line<br /></strong>The BMW M8 Competition incorporates aerodynamic
lines and M-specific design features geared to the requirements of a
high-performance sports car. New exterior colours now bring extra
impact to the body’s clean surface design. The updated selection of
exterior paint finishes for the trio of models includes eight new shades.<br />
<br />The new range of exterior colours includes Skyscraper Grey,
Brooklyn Grey, Isle of Man Green metallic and Individual Tanzanite
Blue. These are joined by four new variants of the highly
sophisticated Individual Frozen paint finishes including Frozen Pure
Grey and Frozen Tanzanite blue. Customers can also specify the BMW
Individual special paint finishes available on request.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in star-spoke
design<br /></strong>The chassis technology on the new BMW M8
Competition models allies electronically controlled dampers and
electromechanical M Servotronic steering to an integrated braking
system offering two pedal-feel settings, allowing the driver to choose
between a more comfort-oriented or a direct, sporty response.
Customers can opt for M Carbon ceramic brakes as an alternative to the
entry Red M Compound brakes – these standard brakes can also be
switched to either a blue or black calliper finish.<br />
<br />The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system offers the option of
engaging M Dynamic Mode, which allows increased wheel slip while the M
  xDrive system provides a rear-biased set-up. 20-inch M light alloy
wheels fitted with high-performance tyres measuring 275/35 R 20 at the
front and 285/35 R 20 at the rear also come as standard. Further M
light alloy wheels can be found on the list of optional extras,
  including a new model in star-spoke design with a bi-colour Black/Grey finish.<br />
  <br />
<strong>M sport seats and M Carbon bucket seats in new
    leather/Alcantara upholstery variant<br /></strong>The interior of
the new BMW M8 Competition models blend unmistakable M-style cockpit
design and modern luxury. The standard BMW Head-Up Display features
M-specific readouts. The Setup button on the centre console offers
direct access to the settings for the engine, dampers, steering, M
xDrive and brakes, enabling drivers to configure their own individual
M Setup. Two different setups can be stored permanently, together with
the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound, gearshift
characteristics, driving stability control system and Auto Start-Stop
function, and then selected by pressing one of the two M buttons on
the steering wheel. In addition, the M Mode button on the centre
console can be used to alter both the responses of the driver
assistance systems and the information shown in the instrument cluster
and Head-Up Display, with a choice of ROAD, SPORT and TRACK settings.<br />
<br />The standard M sport seats are another factor that supports the
intense driving experience. For authentic racing-car flair, there is
also the option of M Carbon bucket seats for the driver and front
passenger. Boasting a structure-led design, exposed carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) surfaces, integral head restraints,
cut-outs in the backrest and side bolsters, plus guides for
multi-point seat belts, these seats combine racing functionality with
excellent comfort over long distances and sumptuous workmanship. They
are heated and electrically adjustable with a memory function on the
driver’s side and also come with an illuminated “M8” badge in the head restraints.<br />
<br />The interior of the new BMW M8 Competition models is trimmed in
full Merino leather/Alcantara upholstery as standard, whether they are
fitted with the M sport seats or M Carbon bucket seats. This
upholstery is also available in a Black/Sakhir Orange colour scheme
for the first time, and all variants feature black Alcantara sections
that have now been extended to cover the instrument panel and the tops
  of the door shoulders.<br />
  <br />
<strong>12.3-inch Central Information Display for greater ease of
use<br /></strong>BMW Live Cockpit Professional also forms part of the
comprehensive standard specification for the BMW M8 Competition. This
brings a large control display (increased in size from 10.25 to 12.3
inches) with touchscreen functionality which enables quick, easy and
intuitive operation of a wealth of vehicle functions.<br />
<br />The BMW Live Cockpit Professional features include the
online-based navigation system BMW Maps and the BMW Intelligent
Personal Assistant. The inclusion of the Driving Assistant, Parking
Assistant Plus including Reversing Assistant, wireless charging and
Harman/Kardon Surround Sound System as standard on the new BMW M8
models further underlines their exclusive character.</p>

<p> </p>
<p>The BMW M GmbH is embarking on its first foray into the world of
luxury motoring with two new high-performance sports cars, the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and M8 Competition Convertible.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new models derive their performance from the most powerful engine
  ever developed for a BMW M GmbH car: a high-revving V8 unit with M
TwinPower Turbo technology developing 625hp. Two turbochargers,
cross-bank exhaust manifolds, direct injection with increased
pressure, plus cooling and oil supply systems designed for driving at
the limit on the track combine to deliver supreme performance and handling. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The high-performance power unit is aligned to an eight-speed M
Steptronic, before it is channelled to the road via the M xDrive
all-wheel-drive system. The rear-wheel bias of M xDrive delivers
assured handling with optimised traction. The performance-focused
character of the engine and transmission enables the BMW M8
Competition Coupé to sprint from zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and
from zero to 124 mph in 10.6 seconds while the Convertible will
complete the task in 3.3 and 11.1 seconds respectively.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>All models have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph,
rising to 189 mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified. The
Coupé’s average fuel consumption is 25.2-25.4 mpg with CO2 emissions
of 253-252 g/km while the Convertible’s fuel combined fuel consumption
  is 25-25.2 mpg with CO2 emissions of 256-254 g/km.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>V8 engine with signature M performance traits </strong></p>
<p>The high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine in the new models works
alongside two turbochargers – positioned in the ‘V’ between the
cylinder banks for optimised efficiency – and indirect charge air
cooling help the engine to deliver outstanding performance. <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>The specially tuned responses of the engine powering the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and Convertible means that peak torque of 750Nm is
delivered at 5,800 rpm and develops a maximum output of 625hp at
6,000rpm. The V8 teams up with a special engine mounting for a more
rigid connection with the vehicle structure. This results in even more
direct engine response and immediate transmission of power to the
drivetrain. The stiffer engine mounting also has a positive effect on
the immediacy of turn-in and the transmission of engine noise into the
  cabin. <br />
  <br /></p>

<strong>Model-specific exhaust system with a racing soundtrack </strong></p>
<p>The engine’s immense thrust is accompanied by a stirring soundtrack
courtesy of the model-specific exhaust system that features twin
tailpipes with a diameter of 100 millimetres apiece. The acoustic
character also changes according to the set up selected by the driver.
Whichever mode is engaged, the driver can dial down the engine’s aural
impact using the M Sound Control button on the centre console. By
selecting SPORT PLUS the engine’s response and sound becomes even
closer to the world of motor racing.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>M xDrive all-wheel-drive system</strong></p>
<p>The rear-wheel-biased version of the M xDrive system only brings the
front wheels into play when the rear wheels reach their
power-transferring limits and additional traction is required. The
driver can also configure the distribution of power between the front
and rear wheels, as required, via the Setup menu. The default 4WD
provides maximum traction and controllable handling while 4WD Sport
mode turns the intensity of the driving experience up another notch
with a noticeable sharpening of the car’s agility. Here, the system
diverts a larger slice of engine power to the rear wheels.
Deactivating the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) transfers
power exclusively to the rear wheels for a more exhilarating drive.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Chassis: Poise and performance of the highest order</strong></p>
<p>Minimised weight, a low centre of gravity, an ideally sized wheelbase
and exceptionally wide tracks along with excellent torsional rigidity
from the M-specific chassis ensure the BMW M8 Competition models stand
out for pure driving enjoyment. It is the result of extensive testing
at BMW Group’s test track in Miramas in southern France, the winter
testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and the Nürburgring Nordschleife,
along with other race circuits. Experience collected from the
development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car also played a role in the
  configuration process. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The model-specific chassis technology has been designed and tuned
with the specific demands of track use in mind while also delivering
  every-day driving and long-distance comfort. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Setup button for direct access to the configuration of all
    powertrain and chassis systems  </strong></p>
<p>The BMW M8 Competition models allow the driver to choose various
settings for the engine, suspension, steering and braking,
independently of one another, using the Setup button on the centre
console. Through the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the driver is
also able to adjust how power is distributed between the front and
rear wheels. The engine characteristics can be adjusted by means of
the EFFICIENT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT
and SPORT PLUS chassis options give access to the three profiles for
the electronically controlled dampers. The driver can also choose
between COMFORT and SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical
steering and the new braking system. When DSC is deactivated, the 4WD,
4WD SPORT and 2WD (pure rear-wheel drive) settings for the M xDrive
all-wheel-drive system also come into play.  <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>Two individually composed variants of this M setup can be stored
permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound,
gearshift characteristics of the eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission, driving stability control and Auto Start Stop function.
The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up at any time by
pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers</strong></p>
<p>Both BMW Competition models feature standalone configuration and
tuning of selected chassis components to deliver agile handling. The
vehicle setup has been carefully adjusted to the engine’s higher
output, generating an exclusive racing-car feel. Both cars utilise
M-specific Adaptive suspension that has electronically controlled
dampers. The basic damper setup, therefore, can be varied at the touch
  of a button. <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>The Competition models’ bespoke modifications translate first and
foremost into superior steering precision and cornering dynamics. It
starts with the extra-stiff engine mounting to ensure greater
precision on turn-in while increased camber at the front axle enhances
their ability to absorb lateral forces through highspeed corners.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>M Servotronic steering with variable ratio</strong></p>
<p>Another factor in delivering the driving experience for which M
models have become renowned is M Servotronic steering. The
electromechanical system combines speed-sensitive power assistance and
a variable steering ratio, enabling exactly the right amount of
steering torque for every situation. The result is accurate turn-in
and sensitive communication of the steering wheel’s movements when
powering through bends and effortless manoeuvring and parking at low
  speeds.  <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>Steering response can also be varied by pushing a button to select
one of two settings. COMFORT mode combines cornering accuracy with
well-resolved steering feel, while also providing the driver with
plenty of feedback. In SPORT mode the steering is even more
communicative and noticeably greater force is required to turn the
wheel in more dynamic driving situations. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Premiere for integrated braking system with M-specific configurability.</strong></p>
<p>The M compound brakes are standard for the new BMW M8 Competition
models. The drilled, inner-vented discs on the front wheels are 395
millimetres in diameter and feature six-piston fixed callipers. The
rear wheels work with single-piston floating callipers and
  380-millimetre discs. The optional M carbon-ceramic brakes – with
400-millimetre discs at the front axle and 380-millimetre discs at the
rear – provide even greater stopping power, resistance to fade and
thermal stability, not to mention an extraordinary ability to fend off wear.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Both brake variants are fitted in conjunction with an M-specific
version of an integrated braking system. Thanks to this cutting-edge
technology, the brake activation, brake booster and braking control
functions are brought together within a compact module. The integrated
system reduces weight by around two kilograms and employs a
vacuum-free brake booster to enhance the car’s overall efficiency. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The version of the new braking system developed for BMW M models also
offers two pedal feel settings. COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the
amount of pressure on the brake pedal required to slow the car. The
driver can therefore choose between more comfort-oriented and
particularly direct, instantaneous response when braking. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>M Dynamic mode for an exceptionally sporty drive</strong></p>
<p>The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is interlinked with both M
xDrive all-wheel drive and the Active M Differential. Its range of
functions includes the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake
Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Automatic Differential
Brake (ADB-X), Brake Assist, Dry Braking function and Start-Off
Assistant. The driver has the option of activating M Dynamic mode as
an alternative to the default setting by pressing a button on the
centre console. This mode allows a greater degree of wheel slip and
combines with the M xDrive system’s rear-biased set-up for sportier
driving. DSC can be deactivated at the push of a button. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Design: The perfect fusion of dynamic prowess and luxury</strong></p>
<p>Measuring 4,867 millimetres in length, 1,907 millimetres wide, 1,362
millimetres tall, and with a 2,827-millimetre wheelbase (and
1,627-millimetre front track and 1,632-millimetre rear track), the new
BMW M8 Competition models display the hallmark proportions of a
luxury-class sports car. Their dynamic appearance is shaped by a
low-slung body, stretched outline, slim window graphic and roofline
  flowing into the rear.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Character-defining features of the Coupé include the double-bubble
contour of its M carbon roof, reminiscent of classic racing cars.
Passengers in the Convertible are protected from the elements by a
high-quality fabric roof pulled taut over the cabin. The multi-layer
soft-top opens and closes in 15 seconds at the touch of a button while
the electric mechanism can be activated while driving at up to 31mph.
Once opened, the soft-top stows away flat under a high-quality cover
whose surface structure matches that of the instrument panel, door and
  side-panel trim. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Signature M design features point to top-level performance</strong></p>
<p>A model-specific take on BMW M design points to outstanding power and
handling. Along with the BMW kidney grille, the three extra-large
elements of the front apron’s intake satisfy the engine, transmission
and braking system’s need for cooling air. The grille features the
black double bars familiar from other M models and displays the ‘M8’
logo in High-gloss black. Both cars have a grille surround and model
  lettering also in High-gloss Black. <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>All new BMW M8 models are fitted as standard with Adaptive LED
headlights, while the optional BMW Laserlight with Selective Beam can
be identified by blue accents inside the twin headlights. <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>Another exclusive feature is the suitably prominent Air Breathers
with integrated M gills in the front side panels. M-specific design
features include the exterior mirrors painted in High-gloss Black
while the M-specific rear apron incorporates a diffuser inlay in
contrasting colour, with the M Sport twin exhaust tailpipes in Black
Chrome. Both cars are fitted with a spoiler on the boot lid in Black.<br />
  <br /></p>
<p>The optional M Carbon exterior package includes inlays for the front
air intakes, exterior mirror caps, M gills in the side panels, plus a
rear diffuser in Black. A notch in the centre of the spoiler mirrors
the double-bubble contour of the roof.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The Competition models ride on 20-inch forged M light-alloy wheels in
  a bicolour, star-spoke design as standard, fitted with 275/35 R 20
tyres at the front and 285/35 R 20 tyres at the rear.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Interior</strong>
<br />The interior design features red accents on the M leather
steering wheel’s M buttons and the start/stop button on the centre
console. The newly designed transmission selector lever with
Drivelogic switch is leather-surfaced with an embedded M logo and
  stitching in M GmbH colours. <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>The newly developed sports seats have perforated 3D quilting,
pronounced side bolsters, clearly defined shoulder areas and integral
head restraints with illuminated model badges. Full Merino leather
trim is standard, and both cars come exclusively with bicolour
leather/Alcantara trim. The standard-fit M Sport seats feature the BMW
  Individual headliner.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Equipment: New control concept, bespoke comfort, intelligent connectivity</strong></p>
<p>A new control system makes it possible to tailor the high-performance
sports cars’ set-up even more closely to personal preferences and the
  situation at hand. <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>BMW’s Comfort Access system, telephony with wireless charging, the
BMW Display Key, Adaptive LED headlights and ambient lighting are all
included as standard. There is also the option of BMW Laserlight with
BMW Selective Beam, which generates a high-beam range of up to 600
metres. As well as boasting a BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific
readouts, the new M8 Competition models also come with the Driving
Assistant and Parking Assistant Plus as standard, while an array of
further driver assistance systems are available as options. The BMW
Live Cockpit Professional – including navigation system and the BMW
Intelligent Personal Assistant – is also standard equipment and
provides full access to the latest digital services from BMW Connected
  and BMW ConnectedDrive.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW Live Cockpit Professional </strong></p>
<p>The BMW Live Cockpit Professional also brings the benefits of the new
BMW Operating System 7.0 to the M8 Competition models. Its fully
digital screen grouping comprises a high-resolution instrument cluster
behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a
10.25-inch Control Display. The driver has a choice of the Control
Display’s touchscreen, the familiar iDrive Touch Controller, the
controls on the steering wheel, voice control or BMW’s gesture control. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is another element of the
operating system. The digital companion can be activated with the
spoken prompt “Hey BMW” and helps the driver to use vehicle functions.
What’s more, he constantly acquires new skills thanks to the updates
transmitted by Remote Software Upgrade.  <br />
  <br /></p>
<p>The standard Head-Up Display projects driving-related information
onto the windscreen and directly into the driver’s field of view. It
employs full-colour graphics and allows the driver to see a wealth of
information without having to divert their eyes from the road.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>The M Mode </strong></p>
<p>The M Mode button on the centre console making its debut in the new
BMW M8 Competition models can be used to alter both the responses of
the driver assistance systems and the information shown in the
instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M Mode allows the driver to
activate ROAD, SPORT and a TRACK setting. Changing the mode alters the
information presented to the driver on the screens, while the
safety-enhancing interventions by the driver assistance systems – such
as active braking or steering inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum
  or deactivated altogether.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional driver
assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M Mode
button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions, for
example. This mode allows all interventions in the braking and
steering systems to be disabled, aside from those made by the
Collision Warning with braking function and the Evasion Assistant. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the instrument
cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant information for
sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial, the shift
lights, a digital speed display and the gear currently engaged – is
displayed in the cockpit. The Head-Up Display readout is concentrated
around the engine revs and shift lights, navigation instructions and
distance warnings, the gear selected and the vehicle speed, plus the
speed limits and overtaking restrictions detected by the Speed Limit
Info system. Pressing the M Mode button again returns the driver to
  the default ROAD mode. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>An extended press of the M Mode button engages TRACK mode. The
decision to activate this mode must be confirmed using the iDrive
Controller. In this setting, all the comfort and safety functions of
the driver assistance systems are deactivated. In addition, the audio
system and Control Display are both switched off in order to focus the
driver’s attention even more intently on the road ahead. The
instrument cluster and Head-Up Display also include M View. In TRACK
mode road sign detection and distance information does not display.
Pressing the M Mode button again takes the car out of the TRACK
setting and back into ROAD mode.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>State-of-the-art driver assistance systems offer customised
    comfort and safety </strong></p>
<p>The standard Driving Assistant can be supplemented with a wide choice
of other driver assistance systems designed to ease the driver’s
workload in monotonous driving situations and so enhance both comfort
and safety. Customers can also opt for the Driving Assistant
Professional that adds features such as the steering and lane control
assistant, the lane keeping assistant with active side collision
protection, the Evasion Assistant, junction warning, wrong-way driving
warning and front-crossing traffic warning systems. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The standard Parking Assistant Plus also includes a rear-view camera,
Top View, Panorama View and 3D Top View functions as well. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Generous standard equipment plus exclusive options </strong></p>
<p>The standard M Sport seats offer multi-way electric adjustment with
memory function and allow the fore/aft position, backrest angle,
backrest width and thigh support to be varied as required. They also
include a semi-electric folding function for the backrests that makes
getting in and out easier for passengers in the rear, as well as
electric adjustment of the head restraints, which automatically drop
down to their lowest position once the engine has been switched off.
The rear backrest has a 50:50 split as standard, allowing one or both
sections to be folded down and increase luggage capacity. When the
rear backrest is upright, the Coupé offers 420 litres of boot space
and the Convertible 350 litres. Automatic boot lid operation is yet
another standard feature, as is hands-free opening and closing of the
  boot lid.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Rollover protection system is standard, and it consists of two
protective bars behind the rear head restraints that automatically
extend when the car is at risk of turning over. Standard equipment
also includes a wind deflector, which can be set up in the rear-seat
area to prevent unwanted air turbulence when driving with the roof
down. The M Sport seats in the open-top come equipped with air
collars, whose air outlets integrated into the head restraints can
provide a pleasant warming effect in cooler weather.  </p>
<p> </p>
<p>A number of exclusive optional extras include active seat ventilation
in the front seats, sun protection glass and a Heat Comfort package
(featuring heated armrests in the doors and on the centre console for
the driver and front passenger, plus a heated steering wheel) and the
Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system with fully active
16-channel amplifier and up to 16 speakers, some of which are illuminated.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The all-new BMW M8 Coupé and Convertible is on sale from now with
  prices starting from £123,435 OTR.</p>

next chapter of the brand’s model offensive in the luxury segment.
Combining, as it does, the hallmark performance, agility and precision
of BMW M GmbH with four full-size seats, the latest M8 model is
derived directly from the new BMW M8 Competition Coupe and was
developed alongside the BMW M8 GTE endurance racer. Its powertrain,
  chassis and aerodynamics were adapted to suit this standalone concept;
intensive testing took place at the BMW Group’s proving grounds, the
  Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit and other race tracks.<br />
<br />The new BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe will receive its world
premieres at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019. The worldwide
market launch will get underway in April 2020, with the BMW M8 Gran
Coupe First Edition also forming part of the launch offering.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>High-revving V8 engine with up to 625hp, eight-speed M
Steptronic transmission, M xDrive and Active M
Differential.<br /></strong>The renowned power delivery of BMW M
engines is one key features of the V8 fitted in the new BMW M8
Competition Gran Coupe. The 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine offers
instant response to the slightest press of the accelerator, a vast
appetite for revs and uninterrupted power development over a wide rev band.</p>
<p>
  <br />The high-revving eight-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo
technology develops maximum 625hp and is teamed with a sports exhaust
system and eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. It
serves up peak torque of 750Nm and completes the sprint from zero to
62mph in 3.2 seconds. The V8’s rigid connection to the vehicle
structure results in remarkably direct transmission of engine power to
the drivetrain. This also sharpens the car’s responses and allows for
more engine noise to be transmitted to the cabin.<br />

<p>*Provisional figures<br />
  <br />
<strong>Cooling and oil supply systems developed for the race
track.<br /></strong>The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe is equipped
with a highly efficient cooling system where the central cooling
module is supported by two remote high-temperature coolers at either
side. The low-temperature circuit incorporates the indirect charge air
coolers, while the high-temperature circuit supplies coolant to both
the engine blocks and the turbochargers. The system also comprises an
additional engine oil cooler and a dedicated transmission oil cooler.<br />
<br />The oil supply system has also been geared towards the specific
demands of track use. The oil sump includes a smaller front sump that
intervenes when extra capacity is required. This ensures a reliable
supply of oil at all times, even when the car is subject to extreme
rates of lateral and longitudinal acceleration.<br />
  <br />
<strong>M xDrive all-wheel drive and Active M Differential: optimised
    traction for outstanding performance.<br /></strong>The M xDrive
all-wheel-drive system channels the engine’s power onto the road via
the Active M Differential at the rear axle. The M xDrive system has a
rear-biased configuration in its default 4WD mode. Drivers can then
use the Setup menu to select 4WD Sport mode, which sends an even
higher proportion of drive to the rear wheels. Deactivating DSC brings
2WD mode into play, with drive fed exclusively through the rear wheels.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Model-specific chassis technology, integrated braking
system.<br /></strong>The design and responses of the model-specific
chassis technology have been prompted by the particular demands of
track use, as have the extremely stiff mountings connecting the
suspension to the body. Standard specification includes electronically
controlled dampers and electromechanical M Servotronic steering. In
its M-specific configuration, the new integrated braking system
enables two different brake pedal settings. COMFORT and SPORT modes
alter the amount of pressure on the brake pedal required to slow the
car. This allows the driver to choose between more comfort-oriented or
particularly direct, instantaneous response when braking.<br />
  <br />
<strong>M Dynamic mode for an exceptionally sporty
drive.<br /></strong>The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is
interlinked with both the M xDrive all-wheel drive and the Active M
Differential, meaning that it only needs to intervene with the brakes
and engine output to stabilise the car in extreme situations. The M
Dynamic mode, which can be engaged at the push of a button, allows a
greater degree of wheel slip and combines with the M xDrive system’s
rear-biased setup to deliver an exceptionally sporty drive complete
with controlled drifts through corners. DSC Off mode can also be
selected at the push of a button.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Distinctive design, extra rear space.<br /></strong>Among the
ingredients in the extravagant appearance of the four-door
high-performance sports cars are their dynamically stretched
silhouette, muscular shoulders and standalone rear-end design. Large
air intakes, M gills on the side panels, aerodynamically optimised
exterior mirrors, a rear spoiler and other M-specific features provide
a visual showcase for the high-performance character of the new models.<br />
<br />Measuring 5,098 millimetres from nose to tail, the new BMW M8
Competition Gran Coupe is 231 millimetres longer than its two-door
siblings. Its distinct proportions are further emphasised by a width
of 1,943 millimetres and height of 1,420 millimetres. Track widths are
1,626 millimetres at the front and 1,660 millimetres at the rear. The
entire 200-millimetre increase in wheelbase length (to 3,027
millimetres) has been used to improve spaciousness in the rear
compartment, where passengers can savour sports-car performance in two
full-size individual seats. There is also a third seat suitable for
use on short journeys. The boot has a capacity of 440 litres.<br />
<br />The BMW M8 Gran Coupe First Edition will be available in the UK,
however limited to just five units; its exclusive design cues include
a BMW Individual Aurora Diamond Green metallic paint finish for the
exterior, with accents in Gold Bronze.<br />
  <br />
<strong>New control and operating system, exclusive standard
equipment.<br /></strong>A Setup button on the centre console gives
the driver direct access to the settings for the engine, dampers,
steering, M xDrive and braking system. Two individually composed
variants of the M Setup can be stored and called up using the M
buttons on the steering wheel. The M Mode button on the centre console
allows the driver assistance systems and the instrument cluster /
Head-Up Display screens to be configured as required. Drivers of the
new BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe Competition can also select TRACK
mode in addition to ROAD and SPORT.<br />
<br />The exclusive standard equipment of the new M8 Competition Gran
Coupe includes Adaptive LED Headlights with high beam assistant, an
  M-specific BMW Head-Up Display, M sports seats, four-zone air
conditioning, front and rear heated seats, Driving Assistant and the
Parking Assistant Plus. BMW Live Cockpit Professional, complete with
navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, is also
  offered as standard.<br />
  <br />
<strong>State-of-the-art driver assistance systems offer customised
comfort and safety.<br /></strong>The standard Driving Assistant can
be supplemented with a wide choice of other driver assistance systems
designed to ease the driver’s workload in monotonous driving
situations, so enhancing both comfort and safety. Customers can also
opt for the Driving Assistant Professional that adds features such as
the steering and lane control assistant, the lane-keeping assistant
with active side collision protection, the Evasion Assistant, junction
warning, wrong-way driving warning and front-crossing traffic warning systems.<br />
<br />The standard Parking Assistant Plus also includes a rear-view
camera, Top View, Panorama View and 3D Top View functions. BMW Drive
Recorder, is also included; this function uses the driver assistance
systems’ cameras to record video footage from different points around
the vehicle. This footage is then stored so they can be either watched
later on the Control Display when the car is stationary or exported
via the USB port. <br />
<br />The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe is on sale from today ahead of
its official market launch early 2020.</p>

luxury motoring with two new high -performance sports cars, the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and M8 Competition Convertible. <br />
<br />The new models derive their performance from the most powerful
engine ever developed for a BMW M GmbH car: a high-revving V8 unit
with M TwinPower Turbo technology developing 625hp. Two turbochargers,
cross-bank exhaust manifolds, direct injection with increased
pressure, plus cooling and oil supply systems designed for driving at
the limit on the track combine to deliver supreme performance and
  handling.  <br />
  <br />The high-performance power unit is aligned to an eight-speed M
Steptronic, before it is channelled to the road via the M xDrive
all-wheel-drive system. The rear-wheel bias of M xDrive delivers
assured handling with optimised traction. The performance-focused
character of the engine and transmission enables the BMW M8
Competition Coupé to sprint from zero to 62mph in 3.2 seconds and from
zero to 124mph in 10.6 seconds while the Convertible will complete the
  task in 3.3 and 11.1 seconds respectively. <br />
<br />All models have an electronically limited top speed of 155mph,
rising to 189mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified. The
Coupé’s average fuel consumption is 25.2-25.4mpg with CO2 emissions of
253-252g/km while the Convertible’s fuel combined fuel consumption is
  25-25.2mpg with CO2 emissions of 256-254g/km.<br />
  <br />
<strong>V8 engine with signature M performance
  traits  <br /></strong>The high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine in the new
models works alongside two turbochargers – positioned in the ‘V’
between the cylinder banks for optimised efficiency – and indirect
charge air cooling help the engine to deliver outstanding performance. <br />
<br />The specially tuned responses of the engine powering the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and Convertible means that peak torque of 750Nm is
delivered at 5,800 rpm and develops a maximum output of 625hp at
6,000rpm. The V8 teams up with a special engine mounting for a more
rigid connection with the vehicle structure. This results in even more
direct engine response and immediate transmission of power to the
drivetrain. The stiffer engine mounting also has a positive effect on
the immediacy of turn-in and the transmission of engine noise into the cabin. </p>

<p>
<strong>Model-specific exhaust system with a racing
  soundtrack</strong> <br />The engine’s immense thrust is accompanied
by a stirring soundtrack courtesy of the model-specific exhaust system
that features twin tailpipes with a diameter of 100 millimetres
apiece. The acoustic character also changes according to the set up
selected by the driver. Whichever mode is engaged, the driver can dial
down the engine’s aural impact using the M Sound Control button on the
centre console. By selecting SPORT PLUS the engine’s response and
sound becomes even closer to the world of motor racing. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>M xDrive all-wheel-drive system <br /></strong>The
rear-wheel-biased version of the M xDrive system only brings the front
wheels into play when the rear wheels reach their power-transferring
limits and additional traction is required. The driver can also
configure the distribution of power between the front and rear wheels,
as required, via the Setup menu. The default 4WD provides maximum
traction and controllable handling while 4WD Sport mode turns the
intensity of the driving experience up another notch with a noticeable
sharpening of the car’s agility. Here, the system diverts a larger
slice of engine power to the rear wheels. Deactivating the Dynamic
Stability Control system (DSC) transfers power exclusively to the rear
wheels for a more exhilarating drive. <br />
  <br />
<strong>Chassis: Poise and performance of the highest
order<br /></strong>Minimised weight, a low centre of gravity, an
ideally sized wheelbase and exceptionally wide tracks along with
excellent torsional rigidity from the M-specific chassis ensure the
BMW M8 Competition models stand out for pure driving enjoyment. It is
the result of extensive testing at BMW Group’s test track in Miramas
in southern France, the winter testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and
the Nürburgring Nordschleife, along with other race circuits.
Experience collected from the development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car
also played a role in the configuration process. <br />
<br />The model-specific chassis technology has been designed and
tuned with the specific demands of track use in mind while also
  delivering every-day driving and long-distance comfort.  <br />
  <br />
<strong>Setup button for direct access to the configuration of
    all<br />powertrain and chassis systems </strong> <br />The BMW M8
Competition models allow the driver to choose various settings for the
engine, suspension, steering and braking, independently of one
another, using the Setup button on the centre console. Through the M
xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the driver is also able to adjust how
power is distributed between the front and rear wheels. The engine
characteristics can be adjusted by means of the EFFICIENT, SPORT and
SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS chassis
options give access to the three profiles for the electronically
controlled dampers. The driver can also choose between COMFORT and
SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical steering and the new
braking system. When DSC is deactivated, the 4WD, 4WD SPORT and 2WD
(pure rear-wheel drive) settings for the M xDrive all-wheel-drive
system also come into play.  <br />
<br />Two individually composed variants of this M setup can be stored
permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound,
gearshift characteristics of the eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission, driving stability control and Auto Start Stop function.
The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up at any time by
pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled
dampers<br /></strong>Both BMW Competition models feature standalone
configuration and tuning of selected chassis components to deliver
agile handling. The vehicle setup has been carefully adjusted to the
engine’s higher output, generating an exclusive racing-car feel. Both
cars utilise M-specific Adaptive suspension that has electronically
controlled dampers. The basic damper setup, therefore, can be varied
at the touch of a button. <br />
<br />The Competition models’ bespoke modifications translate first
and foremost into superior steering precision and cornering dynamics.
It starts with the extra-stiff engine mounting to ensure greater
precision on turn-in while increased camber at the front axle enhances
their ability to absorb lateral forces through highspeed corners.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>M Servotronic steering with variable
ratio <br /></strong>Another factor in delivering the driving
experience for which M models have become renowned is M Servotronic
steering. The electromechanical system combines speed-sensitive power
assistance and a variable steering ratio, enabling exactly the right
amount of steering torque for every situation. The result is accurate
turn-in and sensitive communication of the steering wheel’s movements
when powering through bends and effortless manoeuvring and parking at
  low speeds.  <br />
<br />Steering response can also be varied by pushing a button to
select one of two settings. COMFORT mode combines cornering accuracy
with well-resolved steering feel, while also providing the driver with
plenty of feedback. In SPORT mode the steering is even more
communicative and noticeably greater force is required to turn the
wheel in more dynamic driving situations. <br />
  <br />
<strong>Premiere for integrated braking system with M-specific
configurability. <br /></strong>The M compound brakes are standard for
the new BMW M8 Competition models. The drilled, inner-vented discs on
the front wheels are 395 millimetres in diameter and feature
six-piston fixed callipers. The rear wheels work with single-piston
floating callipers and 380-millimetre discs. The optional M
carbon-ceramic brakes – with 400-millimetre discs at the front axle
and 380-millimetre discs at the rear – provide even greater stopping
power, resistance to fade and thermal stability, not to mention an
extraordinary ability to fend off wear. <br />
<br />Both brake variants are fitted in conjunction with an M-specific
version of an integrated braking system. Thanks to this cutting-edge
technology, the brake activation, brake booster and braking control
functions are brought together within a compact module. The integrated
system reduces weight by around two kilograms and employs a
vacuum-free brake booster to enhance the car’s overall efficiency. <br />
<br />The version of the new braking system developed for BMW M models
also offers two pedal feel settings. COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the
amount of pressure on the brake pedal required to slow the car. The
driver can therefore choose between more comfort-oriented and
particularly direct, instantaneous response when braking.  <br />
  <br />
<strong>M Dynamic mode for an exceptionally sporty
drive <br /></strong>The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is
interlinked with both M xDrive all-wheel drive and the Active M
Differential. Its range of functions includes the Anti-lock Braking
System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control
(DBC), Automatic Differential Brake (ADB-X), Brake Assist, Dry Braking
function and Start-Off Assistant. The driver has the option of
activating M Dynamic mode as an alternative to the default setting by
pressing a button on the centre console. This mode allows a greater
degree of wheel slip and combines with the M xDrive system’s
rear-biased set-up for sportier driving. DSC can be deactivated at the
  push of a button.  <br />
  <br />
<strong>Design: The perfect fusion of dynamic prowess and
  luxury<br /></strong>Measuring 4,867 millimetres in length, 1,907
millimetres wide, 1,362 millimetres tall, and with a 2,827-millimetre
wheelbase (and 1,627-millimetre front track and 1,632-millimetre rear
track), the new BMW M8 Competition models display the hallmark
proportions of a luxury-class sports car. Their dynamic appearance is
shaped by a low-slung body, stretched outline, slim window graphic and
roofline flowing into the rear.<br />
<br />Character-defining features of the Coupé include the
double-bubble contour of its M carbon roof, reminiscent of classic
racing cars. Passengers in the Convertible are protected from the
elements by a high-quality fabric roof pulled taut over the cabin. The
multi-layer soft-top opens and closes in 15 seconds at the touch of a
button while the electric mechanism can be activated while driving at
up to 31mph. Once opened, the soft-top stows away flat under a
high-quality cover whose surface structure matches that of the
instrument panel, door and side-panel trim.  <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Signature M design features point to top-level
  performance <br /></strong>A model-specific take on BMW M design
points to outstanding power and handling. Along with the BMW kidney
grille, the three extra-large elements of the front apron’s intake
satisfy the engine, transmission and braking system’s need for cooling
air. The grille features the black double bars familiar from other M
models and displays the ‘M8’ logo in High-gloss black. Both cars have
a grille surround and model lettering also in High-gloss Black . <br />
<br />All new BMW M8 models are fitted as standard with Adaptive LED
headlights, while the optional BMW Laserlight with Selective Beam can
be identified by blue accents inside the twin headlights. <br />
<br />Another exclusive feature is the suitably prominent Air
Breathers with integrated M gills in the front side panels. M-specific
design features include the exterior mirrors painted in High-gloss
Black while the M-specific rear apron incorporates a diffuser inlay in
contrasting colour, with the M Sport twin exhaust tailpipes in Black
Chrome. Both cars are fitted with a spoiler on the boot lid in Black.<br />
<br />The optional M Carbon exterior package includes inlays for the
front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, M gills in the side panels,
plus a rear diffuser in Black. A notch in the centre of the spoiler
mirrors the double-bubble contour of the roof.<br />
  <br />The Competition models ride on 20-inch forged M light-alloy
wheels in a bicolour, star-spoke design as standard, fitted with
  275/35 R 20 tyres at the front and 285/35 R 20 tyres at the rear.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Interior <br /></strong>The interior design features red
accents on the M leather steering wheel’s M buttons and the start/stop
button on the centre console. The newly designed transmission selector
lever with Drivelogic switch is leather-surfaced with an embedded M
logo and stitching in M GmbH colours. <br />
<br />The newly developed sports seats have perforated 3D quilting,
pronounced side bolsters, clearly defined shoulder areas and integral
head restraints with illuminated model badges. Full Merino leather
trim is standard, and both cars come exclusively with bicolour
leather/Alcantara trim. The standard-fit M Sport seats feature the BMW
  Individual headliner.<br />
  <br />
<strong>Equipment: New control concept, bespoke comfort, intelligent
connectivity<br /></strong>A new control system makes it possible to
tailor the high-performance sports cars’ set-up even more closely to
personal preferences and the situation at hand. <br />
<br />BMW’s Comfort Access system, telephony with wireless charging,
the BMW Display Key, Adaptive LED headlights and ambient lighting are
all included as standard. There is also the option of BMW Laserlight
with BMW Selective Beam, which generates a high-beam range of up to
600 metres.
Intelligent Personal Assistant – is also standard equipment and
provides full access to the latest digital services from BMW Connected
  and BMW ConnectedDrive.<br />
  <br />
<strong>BMW Live Cockpit Professional  <br /></strong>The BMW Live
Cockpit Professional also brings the benefits of the new BMW Operating
System 7.0 to the M8 Competition models. Its fully digital screen
grouping comprises a high-resolution instrument cluster behind the
steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a 10.25-inch
Control Display. The driver has a choice of the Control Display’s
touchscreen, the familiar iDrive Touch Controller, the controls on the
steering wheel, voice control or BMW’s gesture control. <br />
<br />The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is another element of the
operating system. The digital companion can be activated with the
spoken prompt “Hey BMW” and helps the driver to use vehicle functions.
What’s more, he constantly acquires new skills thanks to the updates
transmitted by Remote Software Upgrade.  <br />
  <br />The standard Head-Up Display projects driving-related
information onto the windscreen and directly into the driver’s field
of view. It employs full-colour graphics and allows the driver to see
a wealth of information without having to divert their eyes from the road. <br />
  <br />
  <strong>The M Mode  <br /></strong>The M Mode button on the centre
console making its debut in the new BMW M8 Competition models can be
used to alter both the responses of the driver assistance systems and
the information shown in the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M
Mode allows the driver to activate ROAD, SPORT and a TRACK setting.
Changing the mode alters the information presented to the driver on
the screens, while the safety-enhancing interventions by the driver
assistance systems – such as active braking or steering inputs – are
reduced to a bare minimum or deactivated altogether. <br />
<br />In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional
driver assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M
Mode button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions, for
example. This mode allows all interventions in the braking and
steering systems to be disabled, aside from those made by the
Collision Warning with braking function and the Evasion Assistant. <br />
<br />In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the
instrument cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant
information for sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial,
the shift lights, a digital speed display and the gear currently
engaged – is displayed in the cockpit. The Head-Up Display readout is
concentrated around the engine revs and shift lights, navigation
instructions and distance warnings, the gear selected and the vehicle
speed, plus the speed limits and overtaking restrictions detected by
the Speed Limit Info system. Pressing the M Mode button again returns
the driver to the default ROAD mode. <br />
<br />An extended press of the M Mode button engages TRACK mode. The
decision to activate this mode must be confirmed using the iDrive
Pressing the M Mode button again takes the car out of the TRACK
setting and back into ROAD mode. <br />
  <br />
<strong>State-of-the-art driver assistance systems offer customised
comfort and safety  <br /></strong>The standard Driving Assistant
can be supplemented with a wide choice of other driver assistance
systems designed to ease the driver’s workload in monotonous driving
situations and so enhance both comfort and safety. Customers can also
opt for the Driving Assistant Professional that adds features such as
the steering and lane control assistant, the lane keeping assistant
with active side collision protection, the Evasion Assistant, junction
warning, wrong-way driving warning and front-crossing traffic warning
  systems.  <br />
<br />The standard Parking Assistant Plus also includes a rear-view
camera, Top View, Panorama View and 3D Top View functions as well.  <br />
  <br />
  <strong>Generous standard equipment plus exclusive
  options  <br /></strong>The standard M Sport seats offer multi-way
electric adjustment with memory function and allow the fore/aft
position, backrest angle, backrest width and thigh support to be
varied as required. They also include a semi-electric folding function
for the backrests that makes getting in and out easier for passengers
in the rear, as well as electric adjustment of the head restraints,
which automatically drop down to their lowest position once the engine
has been switched off. The rear backrest has a 50:50 split as
standard, allowing one or both sections to be folded down and increase
luggage capacity. When the rear backrest is upright, the Coupé offers
420 litres of boot space and the Convertible 350 litres. Automatic
boot lid operation is yet another standard feature, as is hands-free
opening and closing of the boot lid.<br />
<br />Rollover protection system is standard, and it consists of two
protective bars behind the rear head restraints that automatically
extend when the car is at risk of turning over.
<br />
<br />A number of exclusive optional extras include active seat
ventilation in the front seats, sun protection glass and a Heat
Comfort package (featuring heated armrests in the doors and on the
centre console for the driver and front passenger, plus a heated
steering wheel) and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound
system with fully active 16-channel amplifier and up to 16 speakers,
some of which are illuminated.<br />
<br />The all-new BMW M8 Coupé and Convertible is on sale from now
with prices starting from £123,435 OTR.</p>

<strong>Munich.</strong> The feeling of an M car is unmistakable – and
now it can be tailored even more closely to the individual. BMW M GmbH
is unveiling a new display and control system for the configuration of
the powertrain, chassis and driver assistance systems on its
high-performance sports cars. As well as additional scope for adapting
the vehicle settings both to the situation at hand and to personal
preferences using the Setup button, drivers will also enjoy the
services of the new M Mode (activated at the touch of a button). The
Setup button can be used to adjust the vehicle settings, while M Mode
allows the displays and driver assistance systems to be tuned to the
driver’s requirements. This extra individualisation and even more
intuitive operation will be included for the first time in the new BMW
M8 Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 10.6
  – 10.5 l/100 km [26.7 – 26.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 242 –
238 g/km; provisional figures), and the new BMW M8 Convertible and BMW
  M8 Competition Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.8 – 10.6
  l/100 km [26.2 – 26.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 246 – 241
g/km; provisional figures). With the help of these new features,
drivers of BMW’s high-performance models for the luxury segment can
enjoy their exceptional range of abilities – from supreme
long-distance comfort to alluring track dynamics – in even greater depth.</p>
<p>The control system developed for BMW M models traditionally enables
their powertrain and chassis technology to be configured in a wide
variety of ways according to personal tastes and needs. Indeed, the
driver can activate various settings for the engine, suspension and
steering independently of one another. In models specified with the M
xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the distribution of power between the
front and rear wheels can also be tweaked. And now the new BMW M8
Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible offer the ability to configure the
  braking system as required, too.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>New Setup button enables intuitive operation with direct
access to all powertrain and chassis systems.</strong></p>
<p>The new Setup button on the centre console of the new BMW M8 Coupe
and new BMW M8 Convertible enables direct access to all available
setup options for five vehicle parameters. Pressing the button brings
up a Setup menu in the Control Display, which offers an overview of
the vehicle settings currently engaged. The driver can then activate
their desired mode for the engine, suspension, steering, brakes and M
xDrive – in a single step in each case – via the touchscreen or the
  iDrive Controller.</p>
<p>The engine characteristics can be adjusted by means of the EFFICIENT,
SPORT and SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS
chassis options give access to the three profiles for the
electronically controlled dampers. The driver can also choose between
COMFORT and SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical steering
and the new braking system. When DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is
deactivated, the 4WD, 4WD SPORT and 2WD (for pure rear-wheel drive)
settings for the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system also come into play.
Two individually composed variants of this setup can be stored
permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound,
gearshift characteristics, driving stability control and Auto Start
Stop function. The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up
instantly at any time by pressing one of the two M buttons on the
  steering wheel.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Premiere in the BMW M8: integrated braking system with precise
    pedal feel and M-specific configurability.</strong></p>
<p>The M-specific version of a new braking technology paves the way for
the configuration of braking characteristics, a feature available for
the first time in the new BMW M8. The new system brings together the
brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a
compact module. The integrated braking system reduces weight by around
two kilograms and employs a vacuum-free brake booster to enhance the
car’s overall efficiency. The brake pressure required is triggered by
an electric actuator, which allows it to be generated more dynamically
and also ensures significantly faster and more precise interventions
from the driving stability control system.</p>
<p>The integrated braking system also does an excellent job of allowing
vehicle deceleration to be geared precisely to the driver’s
requirements and of generating sublime pedal feel in any situation.
Braking feedback to the driver is unimpaired by wet road surfaces,
significant lateral acceleration or high brake temperatures, and this
ensures precise metering of braking power at all times. The version of
the new braking system developed for BMW M models also presents the
driver with two pedal feel settings.</p>
<p>COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the amount of pressure on the brake
pedal required to slow the car. This allows the driver to choose
between a comfort-oriented perception of the braking process and a
particularly direct, instantaneous response to applications of the
pedal. The new BMW M8 teams this innovative system with both the
  standard M compound brakes and optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Pure driving pleasure through innovation: the M Mode button.</strong></p>
<p>In addition to the new configuration options opened up by the Setup
button, the new BMW M8 also allows the gearshift characteristics of
the eight-speed Steptronic transmission to be adjusted using the
Drivelogic button on the selector lever and the engine sound to be
varied via a separate button on the centre console. M Dynamic Mode –
which raises the intervention thresholds for the driving stability
control and allows controlled drifts – and DSC Off mode can also be
initiated at the touch of a button.</p>
<p>A fresh addition to the new flagship models from BMW M GmbH is the M
Mode button on the centre console. This can be used to alter the
responses of the driver assistance systems and the screens in the
all-digital instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M Mode allows the
driver to activate ROAD and SPORT modes, while the new BMW M8
Competition Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Convertible also come with a
TRACK setting. These options enhance the hallmark M driving experience
according to the situation at hand. Changing the settings alters the
information presented to the driver on the screens, while the
safety-enhancing interventions by the driver assistance systems – such
as active braking or steering inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum
  or deactivated altogether.</p>
<p>In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional driver
assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M Mode
button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions. This mode
disables all interventions in the braking and steering systems, aside
from those made by the Collision Warning with braking function and the
  Evasion Assistant.</p>
<p>In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the instrument
cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant information for
sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial and the shift
lights (which indicate the ideal time to change gear), a digital speed
display and the gear currently engaged – is displayed in the cockpit.
Information on coolant temperature, charge pressure, tyre condition,
and longitudinal and lateral acceleration can be viewed in the right-
and left-hand areas of the instrument cluster. The Head-Up Display
read-out is concentrated around the engine revs and shift lights,
navigation instructions and distance warnings, the gear selected and
the vehicle speed, plus the speed limits and overtaking restrictions
detected by the Speed Limit Info system. Pressing the M Mode button
again returns the driver to the default ROAD mode.</p>
<p>An extended press of the M Mode button engages TRACK mode, which is
available in the Competition models and designed exclusively for use
on race circuits. The decision to activate this mode must be confirmed
using the iDrive Controller. In this setting, all the comfort and
safety functions of the driver assistance systems are deactivated. In
addition, the audio system and Control Display are both switched off
in order to focus the driver’s attention even more intently on the
road ahead. TRACK mode allows drivers of the new BMW M8 Competition
Coupe and new BMW M8 Competition Convertible to experience an
ultra-pure, racing-car-inspired distillation of M feeling. Added to
which, the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display also include M View,
although TRACK mode blanks out the road sign detection and distance
information. Pressing the M Mode button again takes the car out of the
TRACK setting and back into ROAD mode.</p>

refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany. The range
shown considers the different sizes of the selected wheels/tyres and
the selected items of optional equipment, and may vary during configuration.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The values are already based on the new WLTP test cycle and are
translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure
comparability between the vehicles. With respect to these vehicles,
for vehicle-related taxes or other duties based (at least inter
alia) on CO2 emissions, the CO2 values may
differ from the values stated here (depending on national legislation).</p>

<p>Further information on official fuel consumption figures and
specific CO2 emission values of new passenger cars is
included in the following guideline: 'Leitfaden über den
    Kraftstoffverbrauch, die CO2-Emissionen und den
Stromverbrauch neuer Personenkraftwagen' (Guide to the fuel economy,
CO2 emissions and electric power consumption of new
passenger cars), which can be obtained free of charge from all
