What Car? Car of the Year Awards as the all-new BMW iX3 is named
overall Car of the Year after topping the Premium Electric SUV
category. Alongside these awards, BMW collected four additional
accolades across a variety of categories. The BMW M3 Touring was
celebrated as three-time Performance Car of the Year, while the BMW 4
Series was announced as What Car?’s Coupé of choice for the sixth
consecutive year. BMW continues to lead the Luxury Car category as the
BMW X7 succeeds the BMW i7 in securing the 2026 accolade. Rounding off
a triumphant night, the BMW X3 attained this year’s Safety Award.

BMW iX3 crowned overall Car of the Year.
Marking a true milestone moment for the brand, the BMW iX3
arrives as the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, introducing a
broad spectrum of innovations and technologies that will soon be
adopted across the entire BMW product portfolio. Since its unveiling
last year, the trailblazing BMW iX3 has garnered widespread acclaim,
and this momentum continues after securing the coveted overall Car of
the Year title at this year’s What Car? awards.

The BMW iX3 thoroughly impressed judges, topping the Premium
Electric SUV category before collecting the headline award. Handing
over the trophy, Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, said:
"The premium electric SUV market is one of the most hotly
contested, yet in so many respects the BMW iX3 offers a step change in
capability. It combines a huge range with ultra-rapid charging; its
new 'brain' improves everything from the infotainment system to
safety; and despite being one of the most enjoyable SUVs of any kind
to drive, it's also very comfortable. In short, it's a truly great car."

On accepting the award, David George, CEO, BMW Group UK and
Ireland commented: “We are truly honoured that the BMW iX3 has been
named as the 2026 What Car? Car of the Year. This award is especially
meaningful given its prestigious reputation and What Car?’s rigorous
testing process. Like the original Neue Klasse of the 1960s, the BMW
iX3 represents the beginning of a new era for BMW, bringing
significant advancements in technology, range and charging
capabilities while maintaining the unmistakable driving experience our
customers know and expect. We extend our thanks to the entire What
Car? team for this special recognition and look forward to showcasing
the innovations of the Neue Klasse across the BMW product portfolio.”

The new BMW iX3 will launch in the UK on 7 March, 2026 and can
be preordered at retailers nationwide. Following its launch, BMW will
introduce 40 new models and model updates between now and 2027,
commencing with the BMW i3 Saloon – which begins production in the
second half of 2026.

BMW M3 Touring celebrated as three-time Performance Car of the Year.
Since its launch in 2022, the BMW M3 Touring has remained a
consistent favourite, impressing judges year after year with its
unique combination of exhilarating performance and practical
versatility. Its success continued at this year’s awards, after
collecting the Performance Car of the Year accolade for the third
consecutive year. "The BMW M3 Touring isn't a jack of all trades;
it's a master of most that manages to combine everyday usability with
a huge amount of fun,” said Huntingford. “The handling can feel as
secure or playful as you wish. No matter where you are in the rev
range, acceleration is savage when you put your foot down. And yet the
M3 Touring is just as capable of playing the classy and practical
family car,” he continued.

Coupé of the Year awarded to the BMW 4 Series for the sixth
consecutive year.
The remarkable winning streak of the BMW 4 Series remains
unbroken as it tops What Car?’s Coupé of the Year category for the
sixth time since its 2020 launch. The judging panel commended its
“precise steering,” “balanced feel through corners” and engine, which
“loves to be revved…” “One of the best things about the BMW 4 Series
is that even the entry-level 420i version is great to drive,”
Huntingford added.

Luxury Car of the Year title retained as the BMW X7 takes this
year’s top spot.
2026 begins as another successful year for BMW’s luxury division
after the BMW X7 succeeded the BMW i7 in securing this year’s Luxury
Car of the Year title – marking a third consecutive victory for the
brand. Judges highlighted the seven-seater’s combination of “luxury
and power” to deliver “effortless performance”. Additional tribute was
paid to its serene driving experience – standing as one of the
“quietest vehicles ever tested” by the publication – alongside
abundant interior space and an “impressive ride,” which “gets even
better” with the optional Executive Drive Suspension.

BMW X3 secures this year’s Safety Award.
The final award of the evening was presented to the BMW X3,
which was unveiled as What Car?’s pick when it comes to safety.
Commenting on the win, judges said: "As well as keeping its
occupants safe in a crash, the BMW X3 is packed with active safety
technology that can prevent accidents from happening in the first
place. However, what really sets it apart is the way in which these
systems work collaboratively with the driver, avoiding the unnecessary
interventions that can lead to them being switched off."

The current generation BMW X3 will continue to be sold in the UK
alongside the new BMW iX3, offering customers a choice of
all-electric, petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains for
maximum flexibility.

Awards. • BMW M3 Touring, BMW X7 and BMW 4 Series lead their respective categories. • MINI named Most Reliable Manufacturer.</pp:summary>

BMW Group UK has made a strong start to the new year, picking up four
coveted category wins at the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year
Awards 2025. BMW collected three headline awards – with the BMW M3
Touring, BMW 4 Series and BMW X7 continuing to lead their respective
classes – and a further six subcategory wins. Meanwhile, MINI was
named Most Reliable Manufacturer.

The BMW M3 Touring retains its Performance Car of the Year title
for the second consecutive year. Commenting on the win, Steve
Huntingford, Editor of What Car? said, “The M3 Touring is one of those
cars that's built to handle every scenario you can throw at it – and
it does so with devastating effectiveness. Relatively compact exterior
dimensions allow it to dance through corners, while its twin-turbo
straight-six engine hits all the right notes. Yet the M3 Touring is
just as capable of playing the practical and classy family car when
circumstances demand."

The BMW 4 Series celebrated its win as What Car?
Coupé/Convertible of the Year, continuing its impressive streak in the
convertible category, where it has been named ‘Best Convertible’ for
five consecutive years. The second-generation 4 Series received an
array of updates last year, including a refreshed exterior design,
striking new headlights and a redesigned cockpit. On presenting the
award, Huntingford said, "While many convertibles feel vague and
ponderous compared with their coupé sisters, the 4 Series is great to
drive whether you go for the hard-top or the soft-top. The 4 Series is
also a full four-seater, with enough space in the back for a couple of
six-footers. And its interior combines high-quality materials with a
class-leading infotainment system”.

The BMW X7 garnered BMW’s third category win of the evening
after being crowned Luxury Car of the Year. The latest variant of the
BMW X7 was introduced in 2022, and has since been widely recognised
for its premium feel, exceptional level of standard equipment and
spaciousness – with room for up to seven passengers thanks to three
rows of seats. What Car? judges praised the model, stating, “The BMW
X7 is the rolling embodiment of the sort of houses you see on TV's
Grand Designs: spacious, striking and beautifully constructed. What's
more, the optional Ultimate Pack makes the interior of this luxury SUV
even more cosseting, and brings upgraded air suspension that delivers
a more stable and luxurious ride than any rival can offer."

The MINI brand was also recognised on the night as What Car?’s
Most Reliable Manufacturer. Highlighting the dependability of MINI’s
product range, Huntingford commented, "MINI had the lowest fault
rate of any brand featured in the 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey.
What's more, on the rare occasions things did go wrong, all of the
cars remained driveable and almost half of issues were resolved in a
day or less. MINI even showed that going electric is no barrier to
producing dependable models, with the MINI Electric achieving a hugely
impressive 98.4% reliability score”.

Alongside the above overall category wins, a further six BMW
models were recognised for their excellence within sub-categories.

Three vehicles within BMW’s fully electric portfolio were
commended. The first was the BMW i7, which topped the Best Electric
Luxury Car category, adding a further win to the flagship’s growing
list of accolades. Meanwhile, the BMW iX won the Family SUV Best
Interior award – a testament to its meticulously crafted and
comfortable cabin. The BMW i5 also stood out for its interior, winning
the Best Executive Car Interior for a second consecutive year.

In addition, the recently revised BMW 330e which now offers up
to 63 miles (WLTP, combined) of all-electric range was recognised as
the Best Plug-in Hybrid to Drive. The BMW M240i Coupe won Best
Performance Car for Value, with judges commending the model’s
comprehensive offering at its price point. Finally, the BMW 1 Series
won the award for Best Family Car Interior, continuing its success in
this category from the previous year. Launched last year, the
fourth-generation BMW 1 Series boasts a premium and versatile cabin
with class-leading interior technology.
extras are set to further increase the appeal and diversity of the BMW
product range from spring 2024. The BMW iX2 fully electric model will
be available from March 2024 with an additional drive system variant.
The drive system offering for the BMW XM has also been expanded. The
innovative Highway Assistant will bring increased comfort levels over
longer journeys to more of the brand’s model series. And additional
exterior paint finishes will be offered for the BMW 5 Series Saloon,
BMW X2 and BMW iX2. Customers will also be able to order the business
saloon with new variants of the BMW Individual Merino leather trim.

Attractive new features will also be introduced in spring 2024
in the area of digital services. These include easier use of the voice
assistant Siri (as part of the integration of the Apple iPhone into
cars specified with BMW Operating System 9), and the optimised display
of ratings for charging stations for fully electric and plug-in hybrid
BMW models. The steady expansion of the range of functions for the My
BMW App also continues.

New entry-level variant for the BMW iX2.
BMW’s
current model offensive in the area of electric mobility also brings
additional variety to the premium compact segment. A new entry-level
variant of the fully electric BMW iX2 will go on sale in March 2024.
The new BMW iX2 eDrive20 (electric power consumption, combined: 16.9 –
15.3 kWh/62 miles in the WLTP cycle) takes a particularly economical
route to delivering locally emission-free driving pleasure in a
compact Sports Activity Coupé (SAC). Powered by a 204 hp electric
motor at the front axle, it sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds
and posts a range of 273 – 297 miles in the WLTP cycle. Its top speed
is limited to 106 mph.

The high-voltage battery in the new BMW iX2 eDrive20 serves up
64.78 kWh of usable energy and can be charged from AC sources at 11 kW
as standard and up to 22 kW as an option. DC charging is possible at
up to 130 kW. Thanks to extremely efficient charging software and
predictive heat management capability, brief stops are enough to
significantly increase the battery charge. In ten minutes hooked up to
a fast-charging station, the BMW iX2 eDrive20 can take on sufficient
energy to boost its range by 75 miles. The BMW iX2 eDrive20 is also
equipped for using the Plug & Charge Multi Contract function as standard.

From March 2024, all model variants of the new BMW X2 and new
BMW iX2 will also be available with an expanded range of exterior
paint finishes. Frozen Black metallic is a new addition to the selection.

BMW XM 50e: high performance with maximum
efficiency.
As the latest offshoot of the first ever
electrified high-performance model from BMW M GmbH, the new BMW XM 50e
(fuel consumption, combined: 166.2 – 217.3 mpg; electric power
consumption, combined: 32.2 – 31.5 kWh/62 miles; CO2 emissions,
combined: 37 – 30 g/km in the WLTP cycle) blends signature M dynamism,
extrovert design and progressive interior luxury with maximum
efficiency. Its M HYBRID drive system is composed of a six-cylinder
in-line petrol engine and an electric motor integrated, together with
its power electronics, into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission. This combination produces system output of 476 hp
(developed by the combination of the combustion engine with up to 313
hp and the electric motor with up to 197 hp) and maximum system torque
of 700 Nm / 516 lb-ft (developed by the combination of the combustion
engine with up to 450 Nm / 332 lb-ft and the electric motor with up to
280 Nm / 206 lb-ft).

The latest version of the 3.0-litre combustion engine fitted in
the BMW XM 50e owes its enhanced performance characteristics among
other things to the Miller combustion cycle, dual injection, an
exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and VANOS variable
camshaft timing, which now works electrically. The electric motor has
a pre-gearing stage patented by BMW, which allows the effective torque
at the transmission input for the motor to be increased to 450 Nm (332
lb-ft). The top speed of the high-performance model – which is also
equipped with the all-wheel-drive system M xDrive – is an
electronically limited to 155 mph. Thanks to an electric range of 48 –
52 miles in the WLTP cycle, the BMW XM 50e can cover much of its
everyday mileage – e.g. in urban centres – with zero local emissions.
And it can also be driven on electric power alone at speeds of up to
87 mph.

The most efficient version of the new M HYBRID system comes
together with the extraordinary presence of the unmistakable
high-performance model in the Sports Activity Vehicle segment. The
model-specific design features of the new variant include the black
accent band along the sides of the car, plus a surround for the BMW
kidney grille and trim detailing for the rear diffuser (both in
Pearl-effect Chrome), exhaust tailpipe trim in Black high-gloss and
silver-coloured bordering for the model badge. Customers wishing to
bring an extra personal touch to the interior of their new BMW XM 50e
– which also offers a unique combination of modern sports car flair
and extravagant luxury with its M-specific cockpit, M multifunction
seats, sculptural headliner and M Lounge in the rear compartment – can
specify features including exclusive Vintage leather for the upper
section of the instrument panel and door trim panels.

Highway Assistant: innovative Level 2 functionality for more
models.
Relaxed travel over long distances and an
impressive experience of semi-automated driving are the specialities
of the Highway Assistant. Launched initially in Germany, the United
States and Canada, this package made its debut in the new BMW 5 Series
Saloon and is now also available for other current BMW models in
available markets.

As an additional function of the Steering and Lane Control Assistant
included in the optional Driving Assistant Professional, the Highway
Assistant takes over the vehicle’s speed control, distance control and
steering on motorways with structurally separated carriageways when
travelling at up to 84 mph. The driver can take their hands off the
steering wheel and put them in a comfortable position, provided they
continue to pay attention to what is happening on the road and are
able to take over the steering again at any time. This Level 2 – as
determined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) –
semi-automated driving function will also be available for the BMW 7
Series, BMW iX, BMW XM, BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 from spring 2024.

The Active Lane Change Assistant with eye confirmation included
as part of the new Highway Assistant adds another layer to the
semi-automated driving experience. As soon as the traffic situation
permits, it is capable of performing the necessary steering movements
for an overtaking manoeuvre, for example, and adjusting the vehicle’s
speed as required. Plus, for the first time, the driver is able to
initiate a lane change suggested by this system by simply looking in
the exterior mirror to confirm it.

New digital services, My BMW App with additional
functions.
Among the digital services available for the
first time from spring 2024 is the extended smartphone integration for
vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 9. This enables the Siri
voice assistant for the Apple iPhone to be activated directly by voice
command and without needing to also press the push-to-talk button.
Elsewhere, the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps now boasts
improved display of information on charging stations. The available
images and ratings are shown both in the list of search results and in
the detailed display. The charging station ratings will now be shown
clearly on a scale of zero to five stars.

As a universal digital interface for data exchange between the
customer and their car, the My BMW App offers an ever-expanding number
of functions. From spring 2024, Comfort Access with the BMW Digital
Key Plus will be integrated into the My BMW App in vehicles equipped
with BMW Operating System 8, 8.5 or 9. In addition, the map view for
selecting navigation destinations imported into the vehicle has been
newly designed. This also improves the search function and the
visibility of the most relevant content. Map and routing functions
will in future be proposed based on current vehicle or user contexts.

Finally, the new E-mobility Analysis function will also be added
to the My Trips menu item in the My BMW App. Based on the customer’s
driving behaviour, this function proposes the BMW model with
all-electric drive system most suited to them. These recommendations
are intended to help spark interest among users of combustion-engined
vehicles in switching to an electric vehicle.

versions
• Available to order now priced from £83,295 OTR.

The new BMW X7 breaks new ground in the luxury car segment, with
impactful styling that showcases the latest BMW design language, a new
M Performance model, plus light-alloy wheels up to 23 inches – a first
for BMW. The new BMW X7 also comes with enhanced standard equipment,
additional driver assistance systems and 48V mild hybrid technology
for all engine variants for the first time.

The largest of all BMW X models offers generous levels of on-board
space, equipment, and a high-class cabin for up to seven occupants.
The new design of the interior with BMW Curved Display and a new
instrument panel including an ambient light bar in its lower section
create an innovative and exclusive ambience. Comfort seats,
upholstered in BMW Individual Extended Merino Leather, come as
standard, with heating for both driver and front passenger, alongside
the four-zone automatic climate control system, ambient lighting and a
panoramic glass sunroof.

The latest generation of iDrive, BMW Operating System 8 and new
digital services underscore the modern and progressive mission
statement of the new BMW X7, while the functionality of the automated
driving and parking systems has been significantly expanded.

The new BMW X7 is available in a choice of Excellence, M Sport and M
Performance versions - combined with powerful yet efficient six and
eight-cylinder engines, a new eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission, state-of-the-art chassis technology and BMW xDrive
intelligent all-wheel drive. Top of the range is the potent V8-powered
M60i xDrive.

Produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, a facility powered by
renewable sources, the new BMW X7 brings a new focus on
sustainability. Many parts, including the air ducts for the heating
and cooling systems, are made from 50 per cent recycled plastic, while
others – such as the cable channels and luggage compartment trim – are
made from entirely recycled plastic.

The new BMW X7 is priced from £83,295 OTR and is available now at BMW
Retailers nationwide.

Striking exterior design that begins with innovative split
headlight units

This is the first time that split headlight units have been employed
as both the daytime driving lights and the lights used to illuminate
the road ahead. The daytime driving lights also adopt the function of
turn signal indicators.

The low-beam and high-beam headlights are generated by two LED units
in separate modules below the daytime driving lights. The updated
adaptive matrix LED headlights - which also include the Adaptive
Headlights and cornering light functions, as well as BMW Selective
Beam non-dazzling high beam - are standard for the new BMW X7.
Adaptive light distribution with automatic bad weather light now also
provides the functionality of front fog lights.

Newly designed BMW kidney grille with cascade lighting

The updated front-end design showcases BMW's signature kidney grille
to prominent effect. The "Iconic Glow" BMW kidney grille
which is standard across the range, features understated cascade
lighting for the two grille elements. The illumination is activated
when one of the doors is opened and whilst driving at night (this can
be switched on or off manually by the driver via the iDrive menu if required).

The front apron’s generously sized surfaces, the precisely integrated
air curtains and its finish in body colour underscore the exclusive
appearance of the new BMW X7. Aluminium satin inlays border the lower
air intake on either side. Alternatively, M Sport models feature a
bespoke front apron with a large lower air intake and High-gloss Black
trim on the outer edges of the air curtains.

Side view with expansive surfaces and dynamically flowing roofline

When viewed from the side, large window surfaces and the long,
dynamically flowing roofline steer the eye to the spacious,
light-filled interior of the new BMW X7. The rear doors are longer
than the front doors, making it easy for passengers in the second and
third rows of seats to climb in and out. Clearly sculpted surfaces and
the striking character line rising up to the rear are expressions of
the new BMW design language.

Standard specification brings roof rails with an aluminium satin
finish for the BMW X7 xDrive40i and BMW X7 xDrive40d Excellence models
or in High-gloss Black for the M Sport and M60i xDrive models.

M Sport and M60i models also benefit from unique side skirts and rear
apron. Together with the roof rails, the side window surrounds, air
breathers and the adjoining trim strips along the door sills and at
the rear also sport a Highgloss Black finish. The M60i model receives
extended High-gloss Black finishes, including the kidney grille and
black chrome tailpipes.

On M Sport models, M logos on the front flanks and standard 21-inch M
light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design with a bi-colour finish add
further to the dynamic presence. An inlay in Dark Shadow and
trapezoidal exhaust tailpipe finishers are the defining elements of
the rear end's sporty look. The M60i xDrive model boasts standard
22-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design adding to its
powerful character.

Refined rear design enhanced with three-dimensional light units

Light units with three-dimensional sculpting add a striking accent to
the rear of the new BMW X7. The L-shaped rear light strips generate
significantly greater intensity, which means they can double up as
brake lights and the light units can therefore be kept extremely slim.
The turn indicators are housed in their upper sections, and these also
generate visually effective pulsating light signals.

Premiere for 23-inch light-alloy wheels; new exterior colours

The new X7 sees 23-inch light-alloy wheels made available as a
factoryfit option for the first time. The aerodynamically optimised
BMW Individual bi-colour light-alloy wheels with diamond polished
surfaces combine with contrasting Midnight Grey to create an elegantly
sporty V-spoke design.

A total of 14 exterior colour shades will be available for the new
BMW X7 from launch, including the new Sparkling Copper Grey metallic
variant. This cool grey tone is complemented by copper particles which
generate vivid effects when light hits the car's body. The range of
exterior colours also contains the M Marina Bay Blue metallic shade
available exclusively for the BMW X7 M60i xDrive. In addition to the
standard colour palate, an additional 40 or so hand applied BMW
Individual colours are available on request.

Intelligent lightweight design, optimised aerodynamics

The body structure of the BMW X7 combines high strength with
optimised weight. Notably, the bonnet, front side panels and doors of
the BMW X7 are all made from aluminium.

The active air-flap control adjusts incoming airflow to the engine's
need. Both the lower air flaps and those positioned in the BMW kidney
grille can be opened and closed through several stages, reducing
aerodynamic drag by up to seven per cent. Air curtains in the outer
sections of the front apron steer the air efficiently around the
wheels. And air directing elements positioned on either side of the
rear window team up with the roof spoiler to create a precisely
defined airflow cut-off.

Spacious interior, expansive equipment
The spaciousness of the new BMW X7 can be enjoyed across three
rows of seats. The second row seats three passengers as standard or
two in individual seats as an option. New seat surfaces and bold
colour combinations add to the interior's contemporary feel. As well
as the Sport leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, four-zone
automatic climate control, ambient lighting, panoramic glass sunroof,
Harman/Kardon audio, heated comfort seats for the driver and front
passenger and Comfort Access, standard equipment also includes a tray
for wireless charging of compatible mobile phones.

M Sport-specific features for the interior include illuminated door
sill plates bearing the M logo, an M leather steering wheel, fine-line
black wood interior trim, Anthracite Alcantara headliner,
stainless-steel M pedals, and model-specific floor mats. An M logo in
the instrument cluster display and an M-specific vehicle key also form
part of the M Sport specification.

A control panel on the centre console houses the iDrive Controller,
the Start/Stop button and the buttons activating the electric parking
brake, air suspension settings and optional off-road modes. The
Driving Experience Control buttons and the newly designed gear
selector lever are also on the centre console.

Fully digital BMW Curved Display with intuitive touch control

The BMW Curved Display is made up of a 12.3-inch information display
behind the steering wheel and a control display with a 14.9-inch
screen diagonal. The two screens merge into one fully digital and
high-resolution display unit behind a single glass surface. Whilst
this curves towards the driver, the front passenger can also view the
screen and operate the system using touch control, voice control or
with the standard BMW gesture control.

Slim instrument panel with innovative ambient light bar, new
Sensafin dashboard

The instrument panel has an extremely slim form in the new BMW X7,
its horizontal structure emphasising the width of the interior. In the
central area of the instrument panel, the broad, smoothly curving trim
element in standard fine wood provides the perfect stage for the BMW
Curved Display.

A new ambient light bar makes its debut below the interior trim strip
in the front passenger area. Its crystalline surface structure and
effective backlighting – with the help of LED units and a graphic
including "X7" lettering (or the M logo in the new BMW X7
M60i xDrive) – enhance the cabin’s luxury feel.

The light distribution, brightness and colour for the interior
illumination can be configured via the iDrive menu, with a choice of
15 colours.

Additionally, the dashboard surface is now made from Sensafin. This
high-quality, vegan surface material with leather-like properties has
exclusive three-dimensional quilting and surface perforation.

Heated comfort seats for the driver and front passenger

The new BMW X7 provides heated comfort seats for the driver and front
passenger as standard. These offer fully electric adjustment of the
seat position and head restraint height (including memory function),
plus lumbar support.

Standard specification includes BMW Individual Merino extended
leather upholstery in a choice of Black, Ivory White or Tartufo. The
optional BMW Individual full Merino leather upholstery can be ordered
in Black, Ivory White/Atlas Grey or Tartufo. Customers will also be
able to order the X7 with a Sensafin artificial leather upholstery in
either Black or Silverstone shades.

Choice of seven or six seats; up to 2,120 litres of load capacity

The new BMW X7 can be ordered as an option with six seats rather than
the standard seven. In six-seat configuration, the two individual
seats in the second row are comfort seats with integral armrests and
comfort cushions. In both the standard and optional arrangements, the
second row seats can slide back and forward, up to 14.5cm in the
seven-seater. All of the seat settings are electrically operated.

With all the seats in place, the BMW X7 has 326 litres of load
capacity. With the backrests of the second- and third-row seats folded
down, this expands to a maximum 2,120 litres. To simplify loading, the
standard air suspension can be lowered at the touch of a button. Added
to which, the new BMW X7 has a split tailgate, with standard electric
opening and closing of both sections. The standard Comfort Access
enables automated, hands-free opening and closing of the two tailgate sections.

Three-section panoramic glass sunroof comes as standard,
Comfort Package optional

The new BMW X7 is fitted as standard with a three-section panoramic
glass sunroof. All the glass roof elements have an electrically
sliding headliner. The Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof, with its
15,000 graphic patterns able to generate a display reminiscent of a
starlit sky, is available as an option.

The new Comfort Plus pack further increases the feeling of wellbeing.
Like the front seats, the seats in the second and third rows can also
be heated, as are the steering wheel and the armrests for the driver
and front passenger in the doors and centre console. The
"thermo" function for the cup holders in the centre console
keeps drinks containers cool or warm as required.

BMW M model with high-impact visuals

M-specific exterior features including large air intakes and
aerodynamically optimised details give the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive an
extremely striking appearance. An M logo on a black background adorns
the standard illuminated BMW kidney grille, which features matt black
bars with high-gloss faces. Aerodynamically optimised M exterior
mirrors are joined by a model-specific trim element bearing the M logo
next to the air breathers on the car's flanks.

22-inch M light-alloy wheels are standard on the new BMW X7 M60i

New 48V mild hybrid technology for all engines

Electrification in the form of 48V mild hybrid technology gives all
engines enhanced power development and increased efficiency. The brand
new eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, seen for the first time
in the new BMW X7, also plays a key role here and is included in all
variants of the new X7 as standard.

An electric motor that helps the combustion engine to deliver a
smooth, dynamic, and efficient drive is installed in the
transmission's compact housing. The mild hybrid system generates
torque of 20Nm and an output boost of up to 12hp, depending on the
driving situation.

In the new BMW X7 xDrive40i, the mild hybrid system is also used to
provide purely electric driving at very low speeds. As a result, it
comes with an acoustic pedestrian protection system.

The energy required for the electric power boost is stored in a 48V
battery located in the engine bay. It is charged via recuperation in
overrun and braking phases. Besides supplying the electric motor, the
48V battery also feeds the regenerated brake energy to the vehicle's
electrical system.

M TwinPower Turbo technology and optimised efficiency in the
V8 BMW X7 M60i xDrive

In the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive, the 48V mild hybrid system links up
with the newly developed 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with M TwinPower
Turbo technology. The V8 utilises the thermodynamic benefits of a
cross-bank exhaust manifold, banksymmetrical turbochargers and
external engine oil cooling. In addition, a reinforced crankshaft
drive, further developed turbocharging with a blow-off valve, a new
oil pump and a weight-minimised oil sump all aid efficiency.

Producing 530hp and peak torque of 750Nm, the V8 engine propels the
BMW M car from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds, complemented by the rich
soundtrack from the standard sports exhaust system.

Premiere for the new six-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the
BMW X7 xDrive40i

Making its debut in the new BMW X7 xDrive40i, the new engine boasts a
wealth of innovations when it comes to the combustion process, gas
exchange, valve control, injection and ignition system. Its maximum
output of 380hp is up by 47hp compared to its predecessor's figure,
while peak torque rises by 70Nm to 520Nm and can be boosted to as much
540Nm by the mild hybrid system.

The new BMW X7 xDrive40i sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 5.8 seconds, 0.5
seconds faster than its predecessor.

Updated six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the BMW X7 xDrive40d

Upgrades to the six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the new BMW X7
xDrive40d, including steel pistons, the development of the oil
separation process, and a revised common-rail direct injection system,
have also contributed to improved fuel economy and emissions. The
overall drive system develops a maximum 340hp. The nominal torque of
the diesel engine is 700Nm, which can be increased to as much as 720Nm
when the mild hybrid system intervenes. All of which enables the new
BMW X7 xDrive40d to power from 0 to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds.

New eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with Launch
Control and Sprint function

All BMW X7 models are fitted as standard with a new eight-speed
Steptronic Sport transmission. Rapid gear changes and sharper shift
characteristics optimise the sporty driving experience. As well as
gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, the transmission also has a
Launch Control function.

Drivers will also be able to make use of the new Sprint function when
a quick burst of speed is required. Here, the transmission
automatically shifts into the lowest usable gear when the driver pulls
the left-hand shift paddle for at least one second. At the same time,
the powertrain and chassis systems switch to their sportiest settings
and the mild hybrid system's electric boost effect is activated.

BMW xDrive with rear-wheel-drive bias

The traction, directional stability and agility of the new BMW X7 are
all enhanced by the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive. It
uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer
case interlinked with the powertrain and chassis systems to distribute
power between the front and rear wheels as required.

In situations where all-wheel drive is not necessary, the engine's
power is sent to the rear wheels alone. In the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive,
this set-up and the standard M Sport differential work together to
deliver the performance customers expect from a BMW when pushing the
dynamic limits. The electronically controlled rear differential lock
hooks up with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system. It works by
limiting the equalisation of the rotational speeds of the wheels on
the inside and the outside of the bend and thus optimises the transfer
of power to the road.

On high-powered all-wheel-drive vehicles in particular, the increased
traction potential at the rear axle means a more rear-biased set-up is
possible, as the all-wheel-drive system has to divert less power to
the front axle. The vehicle's character moves noticeably closer to
that of a classically rear-wheel-drive car, but without losing the
traction benefits of xDrive.

Adaptive two-axle air suspension with electronically
controlled dampers as standard

The proven combination of a double-wishbone front axle and five-link
rear axle underpins the chassis technology in the new BMW X7, ensuring
precise handling and stability.

The electronically controlled dampers fitted as standard enhance both
handling dynamics and primary ride comfort, responding adaptively both
to road surface conditions and driving style. The driver also has the
option of using the various Driving Experience Control modes to select
a more sporty or a more comfortable basic damper setting. Ride comfort
in the new BMW X7 is further enhanced by its adaptive two-axle air
suspension with automatic self-levelling as standard. This allows the
ride height to be altered at the touch of a button when negotiating
off-road sections or for easier loading.

Thanks to the link-up with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension sensors can
be factored into braking modulation. When the car exceeds 86mph or the
Driving Experience Control mode is set to Sport, the body is
automatically lowered, increasing stability and reducing aerodynamic
drag. Ride height is now lowered in two stages and by up to 20mm.

Retuned Electric Power Steering, optional Integral Active Steering

The Electric Power Steering system's tuning has been modified for the
new edition of the BMW X7 and its functions include Servotronic
speed-sensitive power assistance. The different Driving Experience
Control modes allow the driver to choose a more sporty or more
comfort-oriented steering response.

The Integral Active Steering system – standard in the new BMW X7 M60i
xDrive and available as an option for the remaining model variants –
makes light work of manoeuvring, increases agility at moderate speeds
and optimises poise at high speeds, particularly when changing lanes.
Speed-sensitive control of the rear wheel steering means the wheels
are turned in either the same or the opposite direction to the front
wheels, depending on road speed.

Executive Drive Pro delivers top-class agility and comfort

The Executive Drive Pro option (standard in the BMW X7 M60i xDrive)
promises assured yet dynamic handling thanks to its active roll
stabilisation. Roll stabilisation at both axles combines with the
adaptive suspension - while also taking into account information from
the navigation system, the driving-style analysis and the camera-based
anticipation data - to maximise dynamic prowess and ride comfort.

The system employs electric swivel motors to enable precise
compensation of body roll when powering through corners, improving
agility, directional accuracy and handling precision.

In addition, suppression of body vibrations is improved when driving
on a straight road or at low levels of lateral acceleration. Since the
adaptive air suspension with self-levelling function maintains the
full range of spring travel when the vehicle is carrying a load, the
addition of active roll stabilisation makes it possible to activate a
softer air spring setting and increase ride comfort.

Integrated braking system, bespoke M Sport brakes

The integrated braking system in the new BMW X7 generates a degree of
stopping power that is matched exactly to the driver's inputs, while
also producing consistent pedal feel. This system brings together the
brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a
compact module. The required brake pressure is triggered using an
electric actuator, meaning braking requests from the driver assistance
systems translate into extremely short stopping distances.

The M Sport brakes fitted as standard on the new BMW X7 M Sport and
M60i xDrive variants comprise four-piston, fixed-calliper brakes with
395mm front discs and single-piston, floating calliper brakes with
345mm discs at the rear.

23-inch light-alloy wheels available for a BMW model for the
first time

The BMW X7 xDrive40i and BMW X7 xDrive40d models include 21-inch
light-alloy wheels as standard. The new BMW X7 M60i xDrive has 22-inch
M light-alloy wheels, while further 22-inch light-alloy wheel designs
and mixed-size tyres are optional. The new BMW X7 is also the brand's
first ever model to be offered with the option of factory-fitted
23-inch light-alloy wheels. The BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in
this format combine with 275/35 R23 front tyres and 315/30 R23 rear tyres.

Besides its tyre pressure indicator for each wheel, the new BMW X7
also features a digital tyre diagnosis function as standard. The only
one of its kind in this segment, this function uses a cloud-based
algorithm to detect pressure loss far sooner than the vehicle's Tyre
Pressure Monitor can – it can also predict when tyres may require replacing.

Powerful sound, tailored to individual requirements:
entertainment in the new BMW X7

A powerful Harman Kardon hi-fi system is standard in the new BMW X7,
while the 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound
System is available optionally to provide passengers with an even more
impressive in-car sound experience.

A new, optional Travel & Comfort System allows a personalised
entertainment programme to be set up in the rear of the new BMW X7. It
provides one USB-A and two USB-C ports in the first row of seats, four
USB-C ports in the second row and two USB-C ports in the third row.
Passengers in the second row can use the connectors fitted to the
front seat backrests to attach multifunction holders from the Original
BMW Accessories range, which allow tablets and other devices to be
fixed to the backrests.

Standard: front-collision warning

The front-collision warning system now reacts to oncoming traffic and
improves safety by warning the driver of pedestrians and cyclists
approaching the vehicle parallel to the road from the front or rear.

The right speed for every situation – automatically

Cruise Control with brake function offers added comfort on long
journeys as standard in the new BMW X7. Active Cruise Control with
Stop&Go function in the optional Driving Assistant Professional
package goes further to help the driver by maintaining the desired
speed and keeping a safe distance from vehicles travelling ahead.

Simplifying manoeuvring: Parking Assistant Professional with
Reversing Assistant and Manoeuvre Assistant as standard

Active Park Distance Control (PDC) uses visual and acoustic alerts
and automatic brake inputs to help avoid collisions with obstacles to
the sides and rear of the vehicle. Parking Assistant Pro is standard
with the new BMW X7. It comes with a Reversing Assist Camera as well
as Active Park Distance Control (PDC) which uses visual and acoustic
alerts and automatic brake inputs to help avoid collisions with
obstacles to the sides and rear of the vehicle

The latest version of Parking Assistant Pro helps the driver to
select and park in spaces either parallel or perpendicular to the
road. Suitable spaces are detected using ultrasonic sensors as the
vehicle drives past. Instead of just using other vehicles as a guide,
the system is now also able to take its bearings from the kerb. What's
more, Parking Assistant Pro can be used both to enter and exit spaces,
carrying out the required steering inputs, acceleration, braking and
gear changes.

Reversing Assistant offers the option of automated reversing in
confined spaces or situations where the driver does not have a clear
view, such as multi-storey car parks. The new Manoeuvre Assistant
builds on this functionality, using GPS data and the trajectory data
from steering movements to store up to ten different manoeuvres
covering a distance of up to 200 metres each. When the vehicle next
arrives at a memorised starting point, the Manoeuvre Assistant will be
able to carry out all the tasks required to complete the manoeuvre,
controlling the accelerator, brakes and steering as well as changing
gear to move forward or reverse. While the automated manoeuvre is
being performed, the driver can focus on monitoring the vehicle's surroundings.

Parking Assistant Pro provides an excellent overview of the vehicle
surroundings in many different situations. Surround View (including
Top View), Panorama View and 3D View create a 360-degree image of the
vehicle and its surroundings, which is shown from various angles in
the control display. Meanwhile, the Remote 3D View function means
drivers can call up a live, three-dimensional image of their vehicle
and its immediate vicinity on their smartphone at any time.

Parking Assistant Pro also includes the Trailer Assistant, which
makes it easier to execute reversing manoeuvres when towing a trailer;
BMW Drive Recorder that uses the driver assistance systems' cameras to
record video images all around the vehicle; and Remote Theft Recorder,
which sends a message to the customer's smartphone in the event of the
vehicle being stolen. The customer can then access and store the
videos recorded by the BMW X7’s cameras.

Fast, accurate, informative: the BMW Maps navigation system
with Augmented View

Part of the standard BMW Live Cockpit Pro, including head-up display,
the new cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system enables fast route
calculation, based on precise real-time traffic data. With Connected
Parking, BMW Maps is also able to highlight possible places to park
and indicate what the parking situation might be like at the destination.

A new Augmented View function is also standard: this delivers a live,
driver’s-view video stream onto the control display which is overlaid
with graphics to, for example, help the driver navigate a confusing junction.

Natural dialogue with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant

The latest generation of BMW iDrive sees the BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant able to use spoken instructions to adjust the air
conditioning, open a window, operate the panoramic glass roof, or
control driver assistance systems, with the system capable of
recognising routines and making suggestions. New graphics in the
control display appear to "turn" towards the speaker, as if
listening attentively.

Smartphone linking and integration of third-party services

Standard specification for the new BMW X7 includes both Apple
CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, as well as BMW Digital Key Plus included
with Comfort Access which enables customers to lock and unlock their
new BMW X7 with their Apple iPhone using Near Field Communication
(NFC) and security-enhanced ultrawideband (UWB) radio technology.

Always up to the minute: Remote Software Upgrades for
over-the-air updates

The Remote Software Upgrades function keeps the new BMW X7 up to date
with the latest software, with new services and improved vehicle
functions. All updates can be imported over the air, either on a
smartphone via the My BMW App or directly using the car’s built-in SIM card.

At the forefront of the BMW X model range, the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW
X7 offer a high level of comfort and luxury with supreme performance
and advanced dynamic handling capabilities. The new BMW X5 and BMW X6
Black Vermilion Editions feature exclusive kidney bars with red
signatures, and the BMW X7 M50i Frozen Black Edition combines
impressive options into an exclusive package.

In 2020, every eighth new BMW model delivered was a BMW X5, X6
or X7 with 250,000 units sold worldwide.

Particularly striking: The BMW X5 and X6 Black Vermilion edition.

The focus of the Black Vermilion edition is the
clever design integrating red accents onto a Frozen Black exterior
body colour; the BMW double kidney grille with model-specific red bars
creates an effective contrast to the BMW Individual Frozen Black
metallic special paint finish. On the BMW X6 Black Vermilion, this
visual highlight is expressed in combination with its Iconic Glow
kidney grille.

Elsewhere, the model features Orbit Grey matt, 22” M light-alloy
wheels in Double Spoke designed exclusively for this edition, BMW
laser lights, M Sport exhaust system (excluding X5 xDrive45e),
sun-protection glass, extended high-gloss Shadow-line exterior trim,
red high-gloss M Sport brake callipers and model-specific front and
rear aprons.

An exclusive BMW Individual piano black, Fineline crafted,
Edition logo on the cupholder cover is offered as standard in the
interior of the BMW X5 and BMW X6 Black Vermilion Edition. Also
included is an M Alcantara Anthracite roof liner, a crystal glass
application known as Crafted Clarity, and front Comfort Seats with
active seat ventilation offering a multitude of adjustment options and
exceptional levels of comfort.

BMW Individual full leather trim in Merino Black is offered as
standard, and additionally enhanced by edition-specific red contrast
stitching for both the driver and front passenger seats. The edging on
both the front and rear floor mats is also finished in red and inside
the BMW X5 Black Vermilion, the red accents are also to be found on
the rear seats.

On top of the Edition’s standard equipment, customers will have
the option to select from a number of optional extras, including
Comfort Pack which offers comfort access, front and rear heated seats
and heat comfort system and Comfort Plus Pack which additionally
offers four-zone automatic air conditioning, soft-close doors and
front massage seats.

Entertainment Pack, Technology Pack, which includes Head-up
display and gesture control, and Technology Plus Pack, which also
offers driving assistant professional, driver recorder and parking
assistant plus, are available optionally.

A number of additional single options including acoustic glass,
Bowers and Wilkins surround sound system, Skylounge panoramic glass
sunroof and a towbar are also available.

The BMW X5 Vermilion Edition starts production at BMW Plant
Spartanburg from August 2021, with 50 units destined for the UK and
Ireland markets.

BMW X7 M50i Frozen Black Edition – individual and expressive.

The new BMW X7 M50i Frozen Black Edition includes BMW
Individual special paint finish in Frozen Black metallic, Orbit Grey
Matt 22” BMW Individual light alloy wheels in Y Spoke and M Sport
brake in high-gloss black. Also offered as standard are BMW Laser
lights, M Sport exhaust system, sun-protection glass, extended
high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim and black high-gloss M Sport brake callipers.

The interior of the BMW X7 M50i Frozen Black Edition offers a
discreetly elegant atmosphere thanks to the M Alcantara Anthracite
roof liner and the crystal glass application Crafted Clarity.

In addition to the Edition’s standard equipment, customers will
be able to select from a number of further options including Comfort
Plus Pack, which offers five-zone automatic air conditioning, front
massage seats, heat comfort system, rear side window blinds and
ambient air. Technology Plus Pack, which offers Bowers & Wilkins
Diamond surround sound audio system and driving assistant
professional, Entertainment Pack and Ultimate Pack are also available optionally.

A number of additional single options including Executive drive
suspension, Skylounge panoramic glass sunroof, travel and comfort
system and a towbar are also available.

The X7 M50i Frozen Black Edition will be limited to just five
units across the UK and Ireland markets and the Edition starts
production at BMW Plant Spartanburg, from August 2021.
BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition. Combining a striking design with generous
interior comfort and an unparalleled level of specification, the BMW
X7 Dark Shadow Edition underlines both the sporty appearance and the
luxury ambience of BMW’s largest SUV.

The BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition will be produced at BMW Plant
Spartanburg, USA from August 2020 and is limited to 500 models
globally, with only 10 coming to the UK.

The most striking feature of the Dark Shadow Edition is the BMW
Individual Frozen Arctic Grey metallic paint finish, which is
available on a BMW X model for the first time.

The expressive paint finish of the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition is
complemented by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line exterior
finish, giving the BMW kidney grille, Air Breathers and tailpipes a
high-gloss black finish. This creates a subtle contrast to the matt
shimmering body surfaces, also emphasised by the BMW Individual Roof
Rail High Gloss Shadow Line and the sun protection glazing.

The dynamic character of the SUV is emphasised by the
aerodynamically optimised bodywork elements of the M sports package,
which also forms part of the standard equipment.

The BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition comes with 22-inch M light-alloy
wheels in V-spoke design with a Jet Black matt finish and the superior
performance of the engine is accompanied by the emotionally powerful
sound of the M sports exhaust system.

Inside the vehicle, exclusive interior content includes Full
Merino leather in Night Blue/Black with contrasting seams, Night Blue
Alcantara headlining and Night Blue leather instrument panel. Black
Merino leather is used in the lower section of the instrument panel
and on the front backrests. In the centre console area, the unique
design is underscored by means of BMW Individual interior trim
finishers in Piano Black finish bearing the edition logo.

On top of this, the UK specification BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition
comes as standard with a host of features, including Sun protection
glazing, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system, Heat
comfort pack and Panoramic glass roof Skylounge. Head up display, TV

latest flagship of the BMW X-line-up. This latest 4x4 offers
exclusivity, spaciousness, superior quality, strong performance, agile
handling and off-road capability.

It is the largest model in the BMW X line-up combining
outstanding powertrain and chassis technology as well as practicality
and versatility. With three rows of seats, the interior of the BMW X7
is a paragon of quality, delivering outstanding luxury and a full
complement of advanced equipment features.

Exterior design
The new BMW X7 is 5,151mm
long, 2,000mm wide and 1,805mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,105mm. In
terms of design, the BMW X7 has a three-dimensional version of the bar
that turns upwards at its outer edges. At the front, Adaptive LED
headlights and front foglamps are standard, while BMW Laserlights are
optional. This system employs a spotlight with Selective Beam
delivering a non-dazzling high beam range of 600 metres.

Viewed from the side, the BMW X7 features clearly structured
surfaces and a character line that rises up to the rear end and it is
these elements that are part of the brand’s new design language. The
rear doors are longer than the front doors making it even easier to
get in and out. Roof rails and the chrome trim strips that run around
the door sills, extend up to the Air Breathers and continue in the
rear apron, are standard. Fully body-coloured wheel arches house
light-alloy wheels in formats up to 22-inches.

The rear is broken up by horizontal lines and bordered by
vertical separating edges. Bridging the space between the slim LED
rear lights is a chrome bar – a design cue that has only previously
been used at the rear of the BMW 7 Series.

Grille bars in Aluminium Matt and an array of accents in
High-Gloss Chrome, plus 21-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design,
are included on the entry model as standard. The M Sport model
features extra-large air intakes, M-specific 21-inch light-alloy
wheels in M twin-spoke design and a distinctive look for the front
apron, rear apron and side skirts. It also includes additional design
elements in High-gloss Black or Black Chrome – a shade reserved for
BMW’s luxury-class models.

Trim elements in High-gloss Chrome can be specified as an
option, while options for the BMW Individual range include Sunstone
metallic paint and 22-inch light-alloy wheels.

Interior and equipment
The interior of the BMW
X7 is full of expansive surfaces, flowing lines and clear structures.
Electroplated accent trips feature on the instrument panel and centre
console, and the newly designed display grouping that comes as part of
the standard-fitted BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes a Control
Display and a fully-digital instrument cluster – each with a screen
diagonal of 12.3-inches. A sports leather steering wheel is also standard.

The iDrive Controller, the newly designed gear selector,
start/stop button, the Driving Experience Control switch controls,
electric parking brake button and the settings for the air suspension
and optional off-road modes are all located in the centre console.

Light functions in the BMW X7 are operated using buttons, while
the high-quality CraftedClarity glass application for the gear
selector, the start/stop button, the Controller and the audio system’s
volume control are available as an option.

Three rows of seats; room for seven adults to sit
comfortably
The BMW X7 has three rows of seats that
offer space for up to seven adults. The third row has two full-size
seats with space between them – a first for a 4x4. A standard-fit
glass roof adds to the spacious feel while cupholders and armrests
integrated into the side panel trim offer additional comfort.

The second row includes three seats in a conventional rear-seat
bench configuration although customers can specify two individual
seats that offer the same functionality and adjustment range as the
front seats. These optional seats feature integrated armrests, comfort
cushions and cup-holders extended from the front centre console.

In both the standard and optional configuration, the second-row
seats can slide longitudinally through 14.5mm (in seven-seater form).
Adjustment of the fore/aft position – like all other seat positions
and backrest angles – is electric, and the backrests in the second and
third rows fold down electrically. The seats in the second row can
also be tilted forward to make getting in and out as easy as possible
for third-row passengers. The second-row seats can be returned to
their upright position at the touch of a button, at which point child
seats can be fixed in place using the ISOFIX attachments.

The fore/aft position of the second-row seats is adjusted using
a control panel integrated into the driver’s door. Drivers can also
slide both their own seat and the front-passenger’s backwards and
forwards at the touch of a button. This will increase both legroom and
ease of entry/exit for the passengers in the second and third row of
seats, as required. From the boot, the backrests of the second- and
third-row seats can also be folded down and back up again, while and
the second-row seats can also be moved fore and aft.

Boot capacity is 326 litres and increases to a maximum 2,120
litres when the backrests of the seats in the second and third rows
are folded down. The standard air suspension allows the car to be
lowered (at the touch of a button in the boot, via the display key or
rocker switch within the centre console) to make loading easier. The
new BMW X7 features a two-section split tailgate, both elements of
which have electric opening and closing as standard. If the optional
Comfort Access is specified, the tailgate opens and closes
automatically and hands-free.

The standard individual Extended Merino leather trim and
optional BMW Individual full Merino leather trim are both available in
five colour variants. The standard comfort seats for the driver and
front passenger are heated and can be ordered with a ventilation
function as an option. The seats in the second and third rows are also
heated, while the front row can be specified with optional massage capability.

Standard three-part panoramic glass roof
The
BMW X7 features an electrically-operated panoramic glass roof as
standard. The front, central and rear glass elements all have an
electrically sliding headliner activated from a control panel in the
front section of the roof. If the optional electric sun blinds for the
windows in the rear doors are specified, rear passengers gain a button
for operating the headliner.

The Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, meanwhile, features LED
lighting spread evenly across the glass surfaces to illuminate more
than 15,000 graphic patterns and generate a display reminiscent of a
starlit sky.

Four-zone automatic climate control is standard, but customers
can opt for a five-zone automatic climate control system with separate
control panel and additional air vents for the third row of seats. The
Ambient Air package that infuses the interior with eight individually
selectable scents is optional as is a centre console cupholder that
can cool or warm as required. Wireless mobile phone charging in the
tray ahead of the cupholders is also standard.

Customers can choose six colour tones and a variety of settings
for interior lighting via the iDrive control system. The BMW X7
features the Welcome Light Carpet, which illuminates the entry area to
the car when the doors are unlocked or opened. It also features the
Dynamic Interior Light that emits pulsating light signals on the inner
panelling of an open door when the engine is running and on the
instrument panel in response to an incoming phone call.

A ten-speaker hi-fi comes as standard, while the optional Harman
Kardon surround sound system features 16 speakers. Customers can
specify the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 20
speakers and 1,500-watt amplifier. The optional Rear-Seat
Entertainment Professional system comprises a pair of 10.2-inch
full-HD touchscreen displays, Blu-ray-compatible DVD player, two USB
ports, HDMI socket and two headphone jacks. The third row of seats has
access to two further USB ports. The X7 uses the latest BMW Operating
System 7.0 display and control system, which allows those in rear to
select and operate entertainment functions. The rear-seat passengers
can use both their own media sources and those available in the front
compartment. A navigation map and BMW ConnectedDrive services can also
be accessed in the rear seats.

Bespoke interior elements
The luxurious
interior features contrast stitching on the seats, trim elements in
the colours of M GmbH and design variations for the illuminated door
sill plates. The M Sport model also features an M Sport steering
wheel, a BMW Individual headliner in anthracite-coloured Alcantara,
M-specific detailing for the pedals, driver’s footrest and plus
exclusive interior trim strips.

Specially selected options from BMW Individual include extended
Merino leather trim which is standard across all variants or optional
bi-colour BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in Ivory
White/Midnight Blue. BMW Individual fine wood interior trim strips are
also available.

Engines
The engine line-up includes a newly
developed a six-cylinder in-line petrol unit for the BMW X7 xDrive40i
and a pair of six-cylinder in-line diesels to power the BMW X7
xDrive30d and BMW X7 M50d M Performance models. Petrol and diesel
units feature turbochargers and are aligned to eight-speed Steptronic
transmission, which has a wider gear ratio spread and new control
electronics. This reduces engine speeds, particularly in higher gears,
which helps to increase overall efficiency.

xDrive all-wheel drive with increased efficiency and
electronically controlled rear differential lock
The
BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system now varies how the drive torque is
split between the front and rear wheels to provide better handling. It
links up with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and, for added
efficiency, full-drive power can be directed to the rear wheels in
situations where all-wheel drive is not required, or for more sportier driving.

An M Sport differential is fitted as standard on the BMW X7 M50d
and in conjunction with the Off-Road package. This electronically
controlled rear differential lock also hooks up with the DSC system.
This set-up combines to reduce understeer and makes a notable
difference when exiting corners. It also increases traction on loose
surfaces or roads that require differing levels of grip for the left
and right rear wheels.

Chassis technology
The chassis of the BMW X7
features a double-wishbone front axle and a five-link rear axle
combination to provide maximum ride comfort and agile handling. Ride
comfort is further enhanced by its two-axle air suspension with
standard-fit automatic self-levelling. The new BMW X7 M50d features
the M Sport differential, exclusive 22-inch M light-alloy wheels
finished in cerium grey and a model-specific chassis set-up. When
SPORT mode is engaged, or the car’s speed exceeds 86mph, the ride
height is automatically lowered by 20mm.

The driver is also able to adjust the body’s ground clearance –
for off-road driving, for example – by pushing a button in the cockpit
to raise it in two stages up to 40mm above the standard setting.
Another button in the luggage compartment activates a loading mode
that lowers the car by 40mm. The next time the engine is started, the
system will automatically revert to the last mode selected. The ride
height can also be set with the engine switched off using the buttons
in the car or the optional BMW Display Key.

Integral Active Steering is available as an option. By turning
the rear wheels in either the same or the opposite direction as the
front ones, it offers nimble cornering and effortless lane changes. It
is particularly useful in city traffic and when parking in tight
spots.Customers can select the Executive Drive Pro option, which adds
active roll stabilisation for assured handling and has the added
effect of increasing straight-line driving comfort by countering the
vibrations triggered by bumps on one side of the road.

The Off-Road package is available for all model variants apart
from the BMW X7 M50d and it features its own special graphics in the
instrument cluster and Control Display, as well as an extra button on
the centre console for selecting four driving modes – xSnow, xSand,
xGravel and xRocks. Drivers can activate the ideal settings for the
vehicle’s ride height, the xDrive system, accelerator response,
transmission control and the DSC system’s corrective inputs depending
on conditions.

Driving Assistant Professional
The optional
Driving Assistant Professional package includes Cruise Control with
braking function, as well as the Collision and Pedestrian Warning with
City Braking that can alert the driver when a cyclist is detected, are
standard. The optional Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go
function can bring car to a halt then set it back on its way
automatically. To make the driver’s life easier in stop-start traffic,
the maximum length of time the car can wait before pulling away again
automatically after it has come to a halt is 30 seconds.

This system also provides Steering and Lane Control Assistant
and Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection. The
Steering and Lane Control Assistant can also guide the vehicle through
narrow channels, such as roadworks. The system’s hands-on-wheel
detection recognises contact even when only a few fingers briefly
touch the wheel.

The package also includes Lane Change Assistant, which is
activated by using the indicator stalk. Another component of the
system is the evasion aid, which can help avoid collisions with
vehicles or pedestrians suddenly appearing in the driver’s path by
helping the driver direct the vehicle into a clear adjacent lane with
steering inputs.

Another feature is Crossing Traffic Warning, which reduces the
risk of a collision when manoeuvring forwards, or in reverse, towards
crossing traffic where visibility is restricted. Rear Collision
warning, Priority warning, Wrong-way warning and Lane Change Warning
also form part of the Driving Assistant Professional package. The
latest version of Lane Departure Warning now includes active steering
inputs to bring the vehicle back into the intended lane.

Parking Assistant Plus with Reversing
Assistant
Parking Assistant Plus is standard across
all BMW X7 variants. This includes a rear-view camera, while Top View,
Panorama View and 3D View functions which all work together to create
a 360° image of the vehicle and the surrounding area on the Control
Display. The Remote 3D View function additionally gives drivers the
ability to call up a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and
its immediate vicinity on their smartphone.

Another system available within this package is Reversing
Assistant, which offers automated reversing in confined spaces such as
in multi-storey car parks or entrances to courtyards. It can reverse
the vehicle for distances of up to 50 metres by steering it along the
same line it took when moving forward: all the driver has to do is
operate the accelerator and brake pedals with speed limited to 5.5mph.
The steering movements made during the vehicle’s last forward
manoeuvre are stored and retained, even for longer periods. This means
the Reversing Assistant can be used to manoeuvre the new BMW X7
backwards out of a parking position that it drove into forwards the
preceding day, for example.

BMW Connected and ConnectedDrive
Standard
equipment on the X7 includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, a
digital helper that responds to the prompt “Hey BMW”. The BMW
Intelligent Personal marks the start of a new era in which drivers
will increasingly be able to operate their car, access its functions
and obtain information simply by speaking. Updates to this system will
be continuous and can be made on a smartphone and in-car via the
Remote Software Upgrade functionality.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant learns routines and
learns the driver’s preferences such as seat heating settings or the
places they navigate to frequently (“Take me home”). Unlike other
systems, the driver can give the assistant a name, and it can even
provide casual conversation. Saying “Hey BMW, I’m cold” will prompt
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant to adjust the temperature
inside the car accordingly. The assistant gets better with every
command given, every question asked and every setting made.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is also able to explain
all sorts of different functions, for example “How does the High Beam
Assistant work?”, it can provide status updates of the car with
regards to fuel and oil levels and help to answer a range of other
questions. It can even activate a range of functions to enhance
well-being. For instance, “Hey BMW, I feel tired” triggers a programme
that adjusts the lighting mood, music and temperature to make the
driver feel more awake.

It can log frequent destinations, find available parking spaces,
provide traffic and remind the driver when to set off for an
appointment. The assistant’s integration with Microsoft Office 365 and
Skype for Business transforms the BMW X7 into a voice-controlled
mobile office and it can even enable the driver to join
teleconferences when required through one press of the iDrive controller.

With the driver’s consent, passengers can connect their
smartphone to the car using the Connected Command function and then
use it to control functions such as navigation, climate control or
on-board entertainment.

Intelligent Personal Assistant is part of the standard
specification (with a subscription period of three years from build)
along with the Live Cockpit Professional and the new BMW Operating
System 7.0.

BMW Digital Key
The BMW Digital Key employs Near
Field Communication (NFC) technology to allow the BMW X7 to be locked
and unlocked from a compatible smartphone. Holding the smartphone up
to the door handle opens the car and, once inside, the engine can be
started as soon as the phone has been placed in the wireless charging
or smartphone tray. Accessible via the BMW Connected app, the Digital
Key offers unrivalled flexibility as the driver can share it with up
to five other people. The BMW Digital Key is available for NFC-capable
Samsung Galaxy smartphones running Android 8.1 and above.
Alternatively, customers can use the BMW Key Card which is supplied
with the car.

Connected Navigation
Connected Navigation offers
a range of digital services to make route planning both in the car and
away from it, much easier. With this new technology drivers can send
destinations from the BMW Connected app straight to their car’s
navigation system and the most important destinations will be stored,
meaning important addresses can be accessed from any device at any
time. A new feature is the Parking Space Assistant, which proposes
various parking options to the driver in good time before the
destination is reached. This service includes providing information on
the nearest multi-storey car park as well as proposing routes offering
a good chance of finding a parking spot close to the destination. The
existing On-Street Parking Information has also been incorporated into
the scope of functions that form Connected Navigation.

BMW Operating System 7.0 display and control
concept
The all-new instrument cluster and Control
Display is designed to help drivers concentrate on the road ahead. The
BMW Live Cockpit Professional, fitted as standard, comprises a fully
digital, high resolution information display behind the steering wheel
and a Control Display that each have a screen diagonal of 12.3-inches.
This package also features an adaptive navigation system and a
hard-drive-based multimedia system with 20GB of memory.

BMW Live Cockpit Professional drivers get all the benefits of
the new BMW Operating System 7.0, which offers drivers more ways to
customise the system to their own preferences: even the vehicle
mock-up on the display matches the model colour and equipment line.

In the main menu on the Control Display, the driver can
configure up to ten pages, each showing two to four widgets with live
content. The Control Display graphics adapt depending on the operating
method and the voice control system (based on natural language
understanding) is better than ever before. The standard BMW Gesture
control now works with two extra gestures, bringing the total to
seven. Depending on the situation, the driver can choose from the
familiar iDrive Controller, the steering wheel controls, touch
control, voice control or gesture control.

Apple CarPlay is also included as standard on the new BMW X7 for
a one year subscription. After this stage customers can extend the
service based on their needs for one year, three year or lifetime
periods of time.

New or existing services can be added at any time. In the
future, BMW customers will be able to download additional digital
services from the ConnectedDrive Store and install them in their car
via Remote Software Upgrade. Services can be booked in this way for
various periods of time to suit customer requirements.

The BMW X7 will go on sale from April 2019, with OTR prices
starting from £72,195.

Munich / Spartanburg. Production of the first
pre-production models of the new BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle has
commenced at the BMW Group Spartanburg plant, USA. So the countdown
has started for the final twelve months leading up to the presentation
of the production car at the end of 2018. Prior to this, the vehicle
will undergo various tests under partially extreme conditions.

Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant: “We are proud to
produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This
is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet
a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of
five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four
corners of the globe.”

Camouflage wrap conceals final look.
At the plant, the
production of pre-series models serves to secure and optimise future
series production. Consequently, BMW X7 pre-production models already
use the same assembly line as the BMW X5 and BMW X6 production models.
An especially trained team realises the series production process for
new vehicle models at the plant and qualifies employees for future
series production.

The pre-production models built at the BMW Group Spartanburg plant
are handed over to development department specialists, who require
them for homologation, registration as well as for diverse testing
purposes such as endurance tests and test drives under extreme
conditions in the desert regions of Death Valley or on the ice and
snow covered slopes of Scandinavia.

The pre-production model is fitted with its camouflage wrap while
still at the plant. The conspicuous striped patterns are designed to
help conceal the new SAV’s final look as far as possible.

Fifth series from the BMW Group Spartanburg plant.
In Spartanburg, the BMW Group produces BMW X models for
the USA and the global market.
With record production figures of
more than 411,000 units in 2016, Spartanburg is currently the BMW
Group’s largest plant worldwide. Around 70 percent of the vehicles
