in November, including new BMW 1 Series variants, additional
powertrains for the 5 Series Touring, and faster AC charging for
select plug-in hybrid models. Meanwhile, MINI will expand
personalisation options across its portfolio. Alongside these model
enhancements, BMW Group UK has recently received prestigious awards
from Carbuyer, Marie Claire, Parkers, The Caravan and Motorhome Club,
and What Car? recognising the company and its products across a range
  of categories.<br />
  <br />
<strong>Introducing a range of BMW model updates from November 2024.</strong>
<br />Closely following the launch of the fourth-generation BMW 1
Series, an additional model variant, the 123 xDrive, will join the
line-up to bridge the gap between the 120 and range-topping M135
xDrive. This additional all-wheel-drive option is powered by an
electrified four-cylinder drive unit featuring 48V mild hybrid
technology, resulting in a combined system output of 218 hp. In
addition, the BMW M135 xDrive receives an exclusive new M Dynamic
Package, bringing additional bracing elements and lightweight
construction measures, plus specific chassis components to give the
  range-topper bespoke performance characteristics.<br />
<br />The line-up of drive systems for the new BMW 5 Series Touring
will also be expanded from November, with the introduction of new 520i
and 550e xDrive model variants. The introductory BMW 520i Touring
mates the latest four-cylinder petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid
technology to generate a maximum output of 190 hp and peak torque of
310 Nm. These figures can be raised up to 208 hp and 330 Nm courtesy
  of the mild hybrid system’s crankshaft-driven starter-generator.<br />
  <br />Meanwhile the BMW 550e xDrive, a six-cylinder in-line petrol
engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, joins forces with the
latest version of BMW eDrive technology for plug-in-hybrid systems.
The 3.0-litre engine produces a nominal output of 313 hp at 5,000 –
6,500 rpm and a nominal torque of 450 Nm at 1,750 – 4,700 rpm. The
electric motor developed for the hybrid drive system is integrated –
together with its power electronics – directly into the eight-speed
Steptronic Sport transmission and contributes up to 197 hp to the peak
system output of 489 hp. The electric motor’s nominal torque of up to
280 Nm is boosted to as much as 450 Nm at the transmission input for
the motor with the help of a pregearing stage patented by BMW. With
assistance from the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, the
new BMW 550e xDrive Touring completes the 0-62 mph sprint in just 4.4 seconds.<br />
<br />Finally, all plug-in hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series, BMW X5
xDrive50e and the new BMW M5 Saloon will benefit from increased AC
charging rates. The increase from 7.4 kW to 11 kW enables users to
replenish the high-voltage battery of their vehicle in a significantly
shorter time. It will now be possible to charge the battery in the BMW
X5 xDrive50e from 0 to 100 per cent within three hours, while the 0 to
100 per cent charging times for the BMW M5 and plug-in-hybrid variants
of the BMW 5 Series will be reduced by an hour to just 2 hours 15 minutes.<br />
  <br />
<strong>MINI model updates from the tail end of
2024.<br /></strong>From November 2024, MINI will be expanding
personalisation options within the Classic, Sport and Exclusive trim
structures across the new MINI family. British Racing Green exterior
body colour is now available for all vehicles within the MINI family,
while Sunnyside Yellow is now additionally offered across all MINI
  Cooper models.<br />
<br />For customers choosing Sport trim, Blazing Blue exterior body
colour is now available on the MINI Countryman, Icy Sunshine Blue on
MINI Cooper models, and brand new 17” Sprint Spoke Alloy wheels become
standard on all Sport trim, petrol MINI Cooper models.<br />
<br />Classic and Exclusive trims have also been bolstered with
additional wheel options. The 17” U-Spoke Dark Grey wheel is now
available optionally on all Exclusive trim MINI Cooper vehicles, while
the 19” Runway Spoke Black Alloy wheel currently offered on Sport trim
for the MINI Countryman is now available in Classic and Exclusive trim also.<br />
  <br />
<strong>BMW 2 Series Coupe crowned ‘Best Sports Car’ at the Carbuyer
New Car Awards. <br /></strong>Remaining undefeated for a third
consecutive year, the BMW 2 Series Coupe was crowned ‘Best Sports Car’
at the 2025 Carbuyer New Car Awards. “The BMW 2 Series Coupe is a
sleek two-door that serves up BMW’s legendary driving precision in a
relatively affordable package. Just as rewarding in entry-level 220i
guise as it is in the hot M240i xDrive configuration, which brings
searing acceleration and thrilling grip levels," said Carbuyer
Editor, Paul Barker. "The 2 Series Coupe is also compact, making
it easy to live with, while it boasts an upmarket interior.”<br />
  <br />
<strong>What Car? names the BMW 330e ‘Used Hybrid Car of the
Year’.<br /></strong>The What Car? Used Car of the Year awards
highlight the best buys on the used car market today, and this year
the BMW 330e took the top spot as ‘Used Hybrid Car of the Year’.
Commenting on the win, What Car? judges said, “The 330e is great to
drive, has a plush interior, a smooth hybrid set-up, an intuitive
infotainment system, a good reliability record and it's great value
for money when bought at a few years old.”<br />
  <br />
<strong>Triple win at the Parkers New Car Awards. <br /></strong>BMW
celebrates success at the recent Parkers New Car Awards, with the BMW
i7/7 Series, BMW i4 and BMW 3 Series each topping their respective class.<br />
<br />Praised for its pricing, range and performance, the BMW i7/7
Series was named ‘Best Luxury Car’ for the second consecutive year. On
presenting the award, Parkers Editor, Keith Adams said, “If you’re in
the market for a luxury car, the all-electric BMW i7 and hybrid 7
Series have all your needs covered beautifully. As you’d expect, both
are great to drive, but for those riding in the rear, nothing can
touch them at this price point. The i7, in particular, is silently
restful, offers a brilliant driving range, quick charging and
effortless performance. No wonder it’s two years in a row for this
  flagship motor.”<br />
<br />Continuing the awards, the BMW i4 reprised its position as ‘Best
Company Car’. “The BMW i4 set a new benchmark in the premium car
segment when it launched in 2021 and it remains unsurpassed today,”
said Adams. Parkers also paid tribute to the model’s desirability,
well-equipped specification and noted its “competitive leasing rates,
making it an affordable company car choice.”<br />
<br />The third and final BMW to take home a gong was the previous
generation BMW 3 Series, celebrated by Parkers as ‘Best Used Car’.
After praising its “sharp-suited looks”, driving dynamics and “broad
selection of powertrains”, Adams summarised, “Other compact executives
are more luxurious, while others are even faster, but none of them is
as special as a BMW 3 Series - reason enough to make this a used car
  we can wholeheartedly recommend.”<br />
  <br />
<strong>Marie Claire honours BMW Group at annual Sustainability
Awards.<br /></strong>The Marie Claire Sustainability Awards reward
those who demonstrate a commitment to maximum sustainability across a
diverse range of industries. At this year’s ceremony, the BMW Group
prevailed, securing two awards in the Motors category, which
acknowledges companies who are leading the charge in eco-friendly driving.<br />
<br />The first win came from the MINI Countryman, as it was named in
the ‘Electric Cars’ sub-class. The model’s sustainable interior
materials contributed to the win, with Marie Claire highlighting its
dashboard and door panels made from 90 per cent recycled polyester.
The vehicle’s manufacturing process played an equal part in this win,
with BMW Group Plant Leipzig featuring four on-site wind turbines for
energy production and a battery storage farm to ensure surplus energy
can be stored and used at a later stage.<br />
<br />BMW Group “is to be commended for adding so much detail to the
scrutiny of its various sustainability claims, rather than just adding
links to websites, particularly the level of detail around its water
management at its global plants – I was taken by the monsoon water
being collected in India to provide 100% of plant water requirements,”
notes Marie Claire judge, Erin Baker. “I like the fact it is sourcing
its critical minerals directly, and that it tracks and traces Scope 3 emissions.”<br />
<br />BMW Group’s second Marie Claire award win was attributed to the
introduction of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen pilot fleet – which visited the
UK last year.  While a production vehicle won’t be available until
2028, this pilot is an important first step on the road to creating a
sustainable alternative to not only traditional fossil fuels, but to
battery electric cars too. Marie Claire was particularly impressed by
the BMW Group’s “forward-thinking” research into hydrogen fuel cell
technology, as well as the iX5 Hydrogen’s zero-local-emissions drive
  and 313-mile range.<br />
  <br />
<strong>BMW Group UK secures three wins at the What Car? Electric Car
Awards.<br /></strong>The What Car? Electric Car Awards pay tribute to
the best electrified vehicles currently on sale. At this year’s
awards, BMW Group UK triumphed, securing three coveted category wins
across its electrified model portfolio.<br />
<br />Combining excellent driving dynamics, sporty elegance and modern
functionality, the BMW i5 Touring clinched the award for ‘Best
Electric Estate Car’. What Car? judges endorsed the Touring as a “well
rounded” estate, while commending the model’s impressive 570-litre
boot capacity, “intuitive controls”, “rich mixture of high-quality
  materials” and the “healthy 335bhp” of the entry-level eDrive40 model variant.<br />
<br />Also praised at the awards was the BMW i7, which secured the
accolade for ‘Best Luxury Car’ for the second year running. Commenting
on the win, judges said, “As if the petrol-powered BMW 7 Series wasn’t
already luxurious enough, the i7 adds the extra quietness that comes
only with electric power, taking the sense of tranquillity and
  relaxation to a whole new level.”<br />
<br />MINI also received recognition from What Car?, with the MINI
Cooper SE receiving the award for ‘Best Electric Small Car’. “The new
electric Mini Cooper could convince you that the legendary (extremely)
small car should have been electric from the beginning,” said What
Car?. Judges continued by paying tribute to the hot hatch’s “precise,
confidence-inspiring steering”, commendable 0-62mph sprint time (just
6.7 seconds) and its “huge leap” in single-charge range compared to
  its predecessor. <br />
  <br />
<strong>BMW i5 Touring triumphs at Towcar of the Year
2025.<br /></strong>The annual Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of
the Year awards are the leisure vehicle industry’s original and
longest-standing towcar testing awards and exist to help caravan
owners select the car best suited to their individual towing needs.<br />
  <br />At the 2025 awards, the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro Touring
conquered, taking home three awards: first winning the ‘1500kg–1600kg’
caravan weight class, before being named ‘Best Luxury Towcar’ and
overall ‘Best Electric Towcar’. Commenting on the win, judges said,
“The 5 Series Touring has traditionally been a great towcar and the
brand-new electric version (the first-ever electric 5 Series) keeps up
the tradition. It’s a luxurious estate car with a wonderful blend of
desirable features that bowled over the judges. BMW’s latest interiors
offer outstanding tech and fantastic build quality, while there’s
loads of space in the back seats and boot. Engaging handling just
sealed the deal. It also took the Electric Towcar and Luxury Towcar
category wins for its fantastic drive, a claimed solo 324-mile range
from its 81.2kWh battery, and plush feel.”<br />

at their annual awards ceremony.<br />
<br />Launched earlier this year, the MINI Cooper was praised for both
its innovative in car technology and iconic handling, with Motors
Editor, Rob Gill, commenting; “The MINI Cooper is hands-down our
favourite new buy from our head and heart. Classier inside and out,
with a less is more approach, and that dinner plate-sized touchscreen
carries the same cutting-edge tech as a £100k BMW. Mega fun to drive,
as it always has been”.<br />
<br />Judges went on to compliment the vehicles UK based
manufacturing; “The icing on the cake is that MINI is a homegrown
hero. The petrol engines are made at BMW Group Hams Hall, the body
panels in Swindon, and the whole thing is put together at MINI Plant
Oxford. British engineering at its best” Gill continued.<br />
<br />The win builds on a successful year for the brand, launching an
entirely new generation of models across the whole MINI family. With
clean exterior design, a world-first circular OLED display and
innovative new interior materials, the MINI Cooper is the icon reimagined.<br />
<br />Commenting on the win, Federico Izzo, Director, MINI UK and
Ireland said, “2024 has been a fantastic year for the MINI brand,
introducing an entirely new model family over the past twelve months.
Taking home the highly coveted Car of the Year award for the new MINI
Cooper is an honour, and we’re grateful to The Sun for continuing to
acknowledge the feel-good factor that driving a MINI provides”.  <br />
<br />The MINI Cooper is available from retailers nationwide and
priced from £23,270 OTR. Further information on the MINI Cooper and
the entire MINI range can be found at <a href="http://www.mini.co.uk">www.mini.co.uk</a>.<br />

<strong>Oxford.</strong> This summer MINI Plant Oxford is supporting
OxTrail 2024 - an  exciting Oxfordshire initiative organised by local
charity Sobell House Hospice to raise important funds for their work.<br />
<br />The trail sees a series of Ox sculptures placed around
Oxfordshire, with each having being individually designed by either an
artist or local school. Following their design, expert associates at
MINI Plant Oxford then hand-sprayed the sculptures with a glossy and
protective clear coat to ensure a flawless finish.<br />
<br />From 6th July - 29th August, the OxTrail sculptures will be on
display around Oxfordshire for visitors to enjoy. Following this, each
sculpture will be auctioned off with proceeds going to support the
incredible work of Sobell House Hospice. <br />
<br />Sobell House Hospice offers specialist palliative care for those
facing life-threatening illness, death and bereavement. They care for
around 3,000 people a year, with their mission to enrich the lives of
patients and their loved ones. <br />
<br />Speaking on the collaboration between OxTrail 2024 and the Paint
Shop, Plant Director of Plants Oxford and Swindon, Dr. Markus
Grüneisl, said "We're thrilled to have lent our paint shop
services to the OxTrail. This brilliant initiative helps raise vital
funds for Sobell House Hospice, and it's been great to see the MINI
team spirit in full flow as our associates have supported the project."<br />
<br />Associates at MINI Plant Oxford have gone one step further,
creating their very own unique Ox sculpture for the trail. Choosing
Ocean Wave Green as their base colour, the hooves, tail and horns are
painted in colors from the MINI family including Sunnyside Yellow and
  British Racing Green. <br />
<br />Michael Lambe, Paint Shop Process Engineer who was responsibile
for clear coating the Oxen explained, “The lacquering process is quite
unique. Compared to the MINI, with its flowing lines and classic look,
the oxen are a whole different animal! Using our ox-pertise, we’ve
been able to apply a coat that really makes their artistic design shine.”<br />
<br />Artists from around the county have designed and painting their
own Oxen including Oxfordshire based children’s illustrator kOrky
Paul, known for the Winnie the Witch books, and local artist and
rapper, Rawz who worked on the production line at Plant Oxford in 2006.</p>
<p>
<br />Beth Marsh, Director of Fundraising at Sobell House Hospice
remarked, “The partnership we have developed between Sobell House
Hospice and MINI Plant Oxford is one that strengthens our connections
to the wider Oxford Community. We’re extremely excited to unveil
OxTrail 2024, with this initiative enabling us to ultimately reach
  more patients.”<br />
<br />The Hospice first started operating in 1976 and has remained a
staple of the community ever since. Plant Oxford is honoured to be
able to offer its services to the Sobell House Hospice and OxTrail 2024.<br />

<strong>Triple victory for the BMW 5 Series and a win for the BMW iX
    at recent awards</strong>
  <strong>.</strong>
  <strong>
<br /></strong>After an impressive start to 2024, the BMW 5 Series
continues its winning streak. Upholding its reputation as the world’s
most successful business saloon, it emerged victorious at the Business
Motoring and Great British Fleet awards.</p>
<p>The Business Motoring Awards, a valuable reference for SMEs and
vehicle operators, celebrate best-in-class suppliers and vehicles. At
the 2024 awards, the BMW 5 Series secured both the ‘Best Executive
Car’ and ‘Best Company Car’ titles. The model also received
commendation from Fleet World at their 2024 Great British Fleet
Awards, taking the top spot as ‘Best Fleet Executive Car. Judges
praised the model’s performance, comfort and interior quality as “an
impressive package”, commenting, “The new 5 Series once again raises
the standard in this class and continues to be viewed as the ultimate
  driving machine.”</p>
<p>Also offered with an all-electric drive as the BMW i5, the eighth
generation BMW 5 Series fuses progressive technology with
sophisticated styling and hallmark driving pleasure. With these recent
acknowledgements, the latest iteration has now accumulated an
impressive 13 accolades since its introduction in October last year.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the BMW iX secured its 16th accolade as ‘Best Business
Lease Car’ at the inaugural Leasing.com Awards. The recently
established awards are designed to celebrate and recognise excellence
in the products and services available within the leasing sector.</p>
<p>On presenting the award, Leasing.com commented, “With awesome
real-world range and a cabin that’s a pleasure to spend time in, it’s
little surprise that the BMW iX won out when it comes to the Best
Business Lease Car category. The importance of premium plug-in power
for business users can’t be overstated.” Judges were particularly
impressed by the fully-electric SAV’s “innovative design” and
“cutting-edge technology,” describing it as “the perfect option for
forward-thinking business users that want to make a statement.”</p>
<p>
  <strong>MINI Cooper Electric crowned </strong>
  <strong>Top Gear’s </strong>
  <strong>‘Best EV Supermini</strong>
<strong>’.<br /></strong>Following its launch earlier this month, the
all-new MINI Cooper Electric has been awarded ‘Best EV Supermini’ by
Top Gear as part of their Electric Awards. Kickstarted in 2019, the
annual awards exist to credit the best EVs in the world across an
  array of categories.</p>
<p>The MINI Cooper Electric was commended by Top Gear for its spacious
interior and driving dynamics, with Jason Barlow, Editor-at-large,
commented, “Around town the MINI is all the car you’d ever need. The
three-door is roomy enough in the back for a six-footer to sit behind
another lanky soul – provided the seat is pulled forward. Late night,
long way home the Cooper SE risks feeling like a high-tech toy but at
heart it’s still a fizzy driving machine Barlow summarises,
“Fundamentally, this is a great little car, overflowing with
personality, that just happens to be electric.”</p>
<p>Available in two output levels - E and SE - and three well-specified
trims - Classic, Exclusive, and Sport – the fifth generation MINI
3-door remains the icon of the MINI family and represents a giant leap
  for the MINI brand.</p>
<p>
<strong>BMW 3 Series and BMW 8 Series named winners at cap hpi’s Used
    Car of the Year Awards</strong>
<strong>.<br /></strong>In June, automotive data company cap hpi
announced the winners of its Used Car of the Year Awards for 2024,
recognising excellence across a range of categories. The BMW 3 Series
was named Upper Medium Car of the Year while the BMW 8 Series secured
Executive Car of the Year. The awards follow an extensive data-led

creative minds of children and discover their visions for the cars of
tomorrow, the winner of the ‘MINI Minds... with Crayola’ competition
  has been announced.<br />
<br />With hundreds of entries from across the UK by brilliant young
visionaries aged 4 - 10, Oliver Gorrod, aged nine from Oxfordshire,
has been unveiled as the winner. Oliver commented, “I can’t believe I
have won! It was such a surprise and was so fun to enter as I love
  designing things.”<br />
<br />Praised for his remarkable creativity and future gazing prowess,
his design centred around championing nature, with Oliver stating, “I
like the idea of all cars being electric, as they are better for the
environment, animals and the planet. My car is designed as camouflage,
so it blends into natural environments.”<br />
<br />The competition inspired and fostered creative confidence in
children, encouraging them to unleash their imaginations and design
their dreams for the car of the future. As the generation growing up
in a world dominated by electric cars, their entries unveiled some
intriguing results, including over 25% saying they would like their
car to be environmentally friendly to help the planet.<br />
<br />Oliver’s prize includes his winning design being made into
reality using a vinyl wrap on a MINI Electric, plus a big bundle of
Crayola art materials for him and his school. Oliver will also get to
visit MINI Plant Oxford for a private tour, to see how the MINI
  Electric is made.<br />
<br />Federico Izzo, Director, MINI UK & Ireland said, “We’ve been
truly inspired by the creativity displayed in the entries to our ‘MINI
  Minds… with Crayola’ competition.<br />
<br />Children are renowned for their boundless imagination, and this
is evident in the ideas they have presented – we had entries which
focused on being better for animals, boosting the mood of those around
them, helping save the bees and plenty with a focus on sustainability
  - the creativity of the designs were fantastic. We are excited to
bring Oliver’s design to life and hope he will continue to innovate
and dream big in the future.”<br />
<br />Jade Childs, Marketing Controller at Crayola said, “Crayola is
passionate about helping to raise creatively inspired children and
seeing all the wonderful entries into the competition really
demonstrated the children’s colourful originality and self-expression
that, at Crayola’s core, we are all about unleashing. We are delighted
to share Crayola art materials with Oliver and his class as part of
the competition prize, and we hope they will continue to be inspired
and express themselves as they explore, discover, play, pretend, and dream.<br />

inviting consumers to explore its ‘Nice to Meet You Again’ immersive
installation at London Design Festival, created in collaboration with
  multi-award-winning artist Morag Myerscough. <br />
<br />Offering an exciting new insight into the brand's vision for the
future, the installation celebrates the power of human connection and
the transformative potential of unity, bringing MINI’s Big Love
  attitude to life.<br />
<br />With MINI and Morag united by their shared values of imaginative
space utilisation, the bold and colourful installation is created in
Morag’s signature style. ‘Nice to Meet you Again’ infuses both rural
and urban life by joining the vibrancy of a cityscape with sensorial
touches reminiscent of the countryside. The merging of calming nature
and dynamic city communities is reminiscent of both Morag and MINI’s
ability to integrate designs with the surrounding environment,
creating a captivating experience within the inspired setting of
  Shoreditch Electric Light Station.<br />
<br />The installations title ‘Nice to Meet you Again’ pays homage to
the Classic Mini character seen within the MINI Cooper Electric design
  – a focus on a simplified and reduced interior which focuses on just
the steering wheel, circular display and toggle bar - as well as
  Morag’s passion for combining environments.<br />
<br />Providing a fully immersive journey into a future where spaces
are adorned with abundant greenery and teeming with vibrant life, the
installation exudes a contagious sense of optimism and positive
energy, mirroring MINI's signature 'go-kart feeling' and playful nature.<br />
<br />Open from Saturday 16 September until Tuesday 19 September,
visitors are also invited to take part in workshops:</p>

  <li>
<strong>MINI Countryman PHEV reclaims Best Hybrid Small SUV title</strong></li></ul>
<p>
<br />BMW Group UK was once again successful at this year’s What Car?
Electric Car Awards, taking home four prized category wins across the
  Group’s electrified model portfolio.<br />
<br />The BMW 330e, i7 and i8 each secured the win in their respective
class. Whilst once again the MINI Countryman PHEV won at the awards,
topping the Best Hybrid Small SUV category.<br />
<br />For a second year in a row the BMW 330e, powered by the
combination of a 2.0 litre petrol engine and an electric motor
producing 292hp, took home the illustrious ‘Best Used Hybrid Executive
Car’ award. Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car? said, "If you
buy used, the 330e costs less than key rivals. Yet it's more
entertaining than any of them to drive, thanks to sharp, well-balanced
handling. It's a comfortable car, too (particularly if you buy an
example equipped with the M Sport Pro Pack), and all versions come
with an infotainment system that's wonderfully intuitive."<br />
<br />With What Car? believing "BMW's flagship saloon is
undoubtedly one of the most complete cars on sale today” the BMW i7
has added ‘Best Electric Luxury Car’ to its growing tally of awards.
Offering a cutting-edge digital experience with the BMW Theatre Screen
and BMW Interaction Bar, the BMW i7 combines striking style with a
luxurious interior to lead its segment. What Car? states “It combines
superb ride comfort and effortless performance with a long range and
fast charging. What's more, it's hugely spacious and available with a
rear entertainment system that offers audio and visuals worthy of the
  best cinemas."<br />
  <br />Launched in 2012, the BMW i8 was a trailblazer in the
performance car segment and continues to impress over 10 years on,
collecting the ‘Best Used Hybrid Performance Car’ at the 2023 What
Car? Electric Car Awards. Steve Huntingford said, "It may have
been discontinued, but the BMW i8 still looks like the future. And in
many ways it feels like it, too, with its lightweight construction
boosting performance, agility and efficiency. Our advice would be to
buy one while you can, because we think prices are only going to go up."<br />
<br />Finally, the MINI Countryman PHEV reclaimed its title as ‘Best
Hybrid Small SUV’, with What Car? judges applauding its “smart
interior design” and class-leading build quality. Huntingford
summarises, “The Countryman takes the style of the traditional Mini
hatchback and applies it to a much more practical, family-friendly
package,” with a pure electric range that is “easily long enough for
  the school run.”<br />
  <br />

<p>The world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is one
of the main highlights of the Auto Shanghai 2017 show. The new
business sedan is the successor to the current front-runner in the
Chinese car market’s premium segment and comes with all the right
credentials for cementing this leading status. Likewise making its
debut public appearance is the latest special-edition version of the
BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. And Auto Shanghai 2017 also hosts
the Asian premieres of the BMW Concept X2, revised BMW 4 Series models
and new services from BMW Connected created specifically for the
  Chinese market.</p>
<p>The time-honoured MINI brand is also represented at Auto Shanghai
2017 with a world premiere. The new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman,
a talented all-rounder with stand-out performance attributes, is
making its first public appearance. And BMW Motorrad is kicking off
its 2017 product offensive with the presentation of the revised
  BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR, plus an ultra-exclusive new model.</p>
<p>Auto Shanghai is one of the most important motor shows of the year
for the global automotive industry. It has taken place every other
year since 1985, alternating with the Auto China show in Beijing on
the motoring calendar. The National Exhibition and Convention Center
in the west of Shanghai opened its doors in 2015 and invites vehicle
manufacturers, suppliers and service providers from around the world
to display their products across an area measuring some 400,000 square
metres. The 17th edition of the Auto Shanghai show will see more than
1,100 exhibitors present their new models, technological innovations
and service offerings to the public from 21 – 28 April 2017.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>World premiere: the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase.</strong></p>
<p>Taking centre stage at the BMW brand’s stand at Auto Shanghai 2017 is
the world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase. The new
model is being built by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. exclusively for
the Chinese market at the Shenyang facility.</p>
<p>Its 133-millimetre-longer wheelbase imbues the business sedan’s
exterior with elegantly stretched proportions which blend harmoniously
into its contemporary looks. State-of-the-art powertrain and chassis
technology underpin an exceptional balance between BMW’s hallmark
dynamic driving ability and supreme ride comfort. The all-new BMW 5
Series Long Wheelbase is up to 130 kilograms lighter than its
  predecessor and boasts enhanced aerodynamics.</p>
<p>Generous kneeroom, optimised soundproofing and a host of innovative
equipment features – such as the electrically adjustable comfort
seats, Ambient Air package and Sky Lounge Panorama glass roof –
elevate on-board comfort in the rear to an even higher level. As well
as the iDrive system and a further improved voice control system, the
display and control concept also encompasses a touchscreen monitor and
  BMW gesture control.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>World premiere: the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW Group is also building on its successful track record in
sustainable mobility, where BMW i has played a significant role. The
BMW eDrive drive system technology originally developed for the
all-electric BMW i3 and BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car can now be
experienced in six BMW model ranges and one MINI. Indeed, fuelled by
the popularity of the BMW i and BMW iPerformance models, the BMW Group
is now the most successful manufacturer of plug-in hybrid models for
  the premium segment globally.</p>
<p>The BMW i8, for example, has developed into the world’s
highest-selling plug-in hybrid sports car. And its appeal is given
fresh lustre at Auto Shanghai 2017 with the presentation for the first
time of the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition. This latest special
edition stands out with its exclusive Protonic Frozen Yellow paint
finish, newly designed 20-inch light-alloy wheels and distinctive
  interior design cues.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Asian premiere: the BMW Concept X2</strong>.</p>
<p>The BMW Concept X2 is celebrating its Asian premiere in Shanghai. The
new vehicle concept for the premium compact segment combines the
robust and functionally accomplished character of a BMW X model with
the low-slung proportions of a coupe. Among the signature X elements
are muscular surfaces, large, almost squared-off wheel arches and
stylistic underfloor protection. The long wheelbase, short overhangs,
flowing roofline and slim side window graphic lend the silhouette of
the BMW Concept X2 a svelte and dynamic appearance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Asian premiere: the new BMW 4 Series model range.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW 4 Series models will be introduced to the public in Asia
for the first time with detailed revisions to their design and
optimised chassis technology. LED headlights and LED rear lights now
come as standard for the BMW 4 Series Coupe, BMW 4 Series Convertible
and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, as does a refined premium ambience in the
interior. If the optional Navigation system Professional is specified,
the iDrive operating system also features a new tile-style menu layout
with constantly updated content. And the Multifunctional Instrument
Display can now also be ordered as an option.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>BMW Connected with services developed specially for China.</strong></p>
<p>With mobility, communication and infotainment services tailored
specially to BMW’s Chinese target group, BMW Connected presents a
premium digital offering unmatched in the country. The BMW Connected
  personalised mobility assistant’s China-specific functionality
includes customer support among its suite of services. BMW Connected
allows smartphone users to coordinate communications with a selected
BMW dealer and arrange service appointments. BMW Connected also
supplies users in China with information on traffic offences. And
customers can make use of online-based lifestyle, social media and
entertainment services selected specially for the Chinese market and
  with bespoke functionality.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>World premiere: the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.</strong></p>
<p>The MINI brand is showing off its sporty side at Auto Shanghai 2017,
with the world premiere of the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman
commanding the limelight. The latest John Cooper Works machine is the
largest and most versatile elite performance model in the British car
maker’s portfolio. The brand’s most powerful engine, eight-speed
Steptronic Sport transmission (fitted as standard in cars for the
Chinese market), ALL4 all-wheel drive and sports suspension, plus the
aerodynamically optimised body and sports-car cockpit aura come
together into a sublime overall package to deliver standout
performance and a race feeling that will capture the imagination.</p>
<p>The new-generation MINI sees the British manufacturer also
strengthening its position as the leading maker of premium vehicles in
the small car and compact segments in China. The MINI 3-door and MINI
5-door are each available with a selection of three engines in the
country, and MINI Convertible customers there can choose from two
variants. In the premium compact segment, the MINI Clubman can be
ordered with one of three engines and the MINI Countryman with a
choice of two, plus ALL4 all-wheel drive as an option. The new
MINI John Cooper Works Countryman joins the MINI John Cooper Works and
MINI John Cooper Works Clubman in the ranks of top-level MINI
  performance models in China.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>BMW Motorrad: fresh success, a model offensive and a world
premiere for a suitably exclusive newcomer.</strong></p>
<p>BMW Motorrad recorded extremely dynamic growth in China in 2016, with
sales up 52.7 per cent compared with the previous year. And the brand
is continuing along its upward curve in 2017, fuelled by its ongoing
model offensive in the premium motorcycle and maxi scooter markets. 14
new and redesigned models are set to be introduced up to the end of
2017. And the brand is showing various models at Auto Shanghai 2017,
including the latest versions of the ultra-sporty BMW S 1000 RR and
BMW S 1000 XR. But the highlight of the BMW Motorrad stand is the
world premiere of one of the most exclusive models ever offered by BMW Motorrad.</p>
<p> </p>
