*All figures relating to performance, fuel consumption and
emissions are provisional. All the stated technical data including
fuel consumption, electric range and emissions figures relate to the
offering in the German market. Dimensions and measurements refer to
vehicles with basic configuration in Germany. These may vary
depending on the wheel/tyre size and items of optional equipment
selected. **Electronically limited.

The straight six-cylinder engine featuring M TwinPower Turbo
Technology in the new BMW M4 Competition with M xDrive is still
unparalleled in the competitive environment as it delivers a maximum
power output of 530 hp, transferring power to the road via an 8-speed
M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.

The USA has become the largest sales market for the BMW M4
Coupé, followed by China, Germany and the UK. Much like its Coupé
counterpart, the BMW M4 Convertible enjoys great popularity in the
USA, Germany and the UK. On a global scale, the BMW M4 Series is the
clear market leader in each of their respective competitive segments.

The latest BMW M4 Coupé and the BMW M4 Convertible models
continue to be produced at BMW Group Dingolfing plant, with production
starting in March 2024. The UK market launch will follow at the same
time, with the BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive priced from
£84,250 and the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive priced
from £88,255.

Bespoke vehicles, M-typical
performance.
Uncompromising dynamics both in everyday
driving and on the racetrack are characteristic of BMW M4 Series
models, this also being reflected in their design. Powerful
proportions and M-specific design features for optimising the cooling
air supply and the aerodynamic balance underpin their status as
high-performance sports cars. The large, vertical BMW kidney grille
sporting M-typical and horizontally arranged double slats, powerfully
modelled wheel arches and prominently flared side sills with a
contrasting high-gloss black finish as well as attachments for the
front and rear aprons provide clear reference to the dynamic potential
of both the Coupé and the Convertible.

While a carbon reinforced plastic (CRP) roof is standard on the
BMW M4 Coupé, the BMW M4 Convertible offers a particularly unique
opportunity to enjoy M-typical performance along with an extraordinary
open-air driving experience. The car’s sophisticated panel bow
soft-top roof combines the benefits of a retractable hardtop with the
look of a classic fabric roof. The electric drive mechanism allows it
to be opened or closed while on the move.

Straight six-cylinder engine with motor racing technology and
new performance specification.
The straight
six-cylinder power units used in the new BMW M4 Competition Coupé with
M xDrive and the new M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive combine
the typical high-revving characteristics offered by engines from BMW M
GmbH with the current version of M TwinPower Turbo Technology. The
3-litre engine impresses with responsive power delivery and
high-torque characteristics up into the highest load ranges. These
attributes are responsible for those unmistakable, linear performance
characteristics, which have always been the hallmark of BMW M automobiles.

The engine‘s design features directly derive from motor racing
and include the extremely stiff crankcase, which is manufactured in a
sleeveless closed-deck design, the weight-reduced forged crankshaft
and the iron coating, which is applied to the cylinder liners in an
arc wire spraying process (AWSP). Manufactured in a 3-D printing
process, the cylinder head core features an optimised routing of the
coolant ducts, something that cannot be realised using conventional
metal casting technology. In this way, both weight and temperature
management are optimised. Like the cooling system, the oil supply is
also aligned to the special demands of racetrack use.

M TwinPower Turbo Technology comprises two mono scroll
turbochargers, each of them supplying three cylinders with compressed
air. Indirect intercooling facilitated by a low-temperature circuit
and specific compressors optimise the power output of the charging
unit. Moreover, the technology package includes the petrol injection
system High Precision Injection operating at a maximum pressure of 350
bar, variable valve control VALVETRONIC and infinitely variable
camshaft control Double VANOS.

Maximum power output of the straight six-cylinder power unit
variant featured in both the new BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M
xDrive and the new BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive has
been increased from the previous 510 hp to 530 hp, this being reached
at an engine speed of 6,250 rpm. The further developed engine
retrieves maximum torque of 650 Nm within an extended engine speed
range of between 2,750 and 5,730 rpm. This results in even more
superior and continuous power delivery, thus further enhancing the
performance experience above all in highly dynamic driving situations.
This exclusive performance specification is realised through a
modification of the engine control system, providing further proof of
the outstanding potential of the straight six-cylinder engine
developed by BMW M GmbH and which serves as the basis for the power
plant featured in the BMW M4 GT3 long-distance vehicle.

The new BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive accelerates from
0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds, while the new BMW M4 Competition Convertible
with M xDrive takes 3.7 seconds to reach the same speed from a
standstill. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph,
although this can be increased to 174 mph (BMW M4 Competition Coupé
with M xDrive) or 180 mph (BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M
xDrive) when the optional M Driver’s Package is selected.

Honed on the Nürburgring: M-typical overall package comprising
engine, power transmission and suspension technology.
The new BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive and the
new BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive feature outstanding
traction, an attribute that is clear from their impressive
acceleration values. Thanks to a rear-wheel biased system and in
conjunction with a fully variable Active M differential in the rear
wheel transmission, the M xDrive system also enhances that typical M
feeling during dynamic cornering. Via the set-up menu the driver is
able to select, in addition to the default setting 4WD, the 4WD Sport
mode, in which greater percentage of torque is directed to the rear
axle. Moreover, when DSC is deactivated, the 2WD mode becomes
available for exclusive transmission of power to the rear wheels.

High torsional stiffness of the body structure and the
suspension connections create the ideal prerequisites for inspiring
agility and spontaneous response to steering commands. Model-specific
body struts also help the high-performance model provide that BMW M
typical combination of dynamic, agile and precise handling.

M-specific kinematics and elasto-kinematics of the double-joint
spring strut front axle and the five-link rear axle guarantee the
harmony between extreme driving dynamics and balanced comfort features
on all models of the series, both in everyday use and on longer
journeys. Three characteristic maps are available via the M Setup menu
for individual adjustments of the Adaptive M suspension, which comes
as standard. Further components of the suspension technology include M
Servotronic steering and the integrated braking system, which is
utilised in conjunction both with the standard M compound brakes and
the optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.

The integrated application of all drive and suspension systems,
which was tested, inter alia, on the northern loop of the Nürburgring,
guarantees, also in everyday traffic, highly dynamic and precisely
controllable handling. A form of driving pleasure that is unique
within the competitive environment is provided by the stability
control system DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), which in addition to
the M Dynamic Mode comprises ten-stage adjustable wheel slip
limitation. With the standard-fit M Traction Control function, the
driver is able to reduce system interventions in stages in order to
cautiously approach the physical limits of driving when the car is
used on the racetrack, for instance. The M Lap Timer and the M Drift
Analyser provide functions that emphasise the character of these
high-performance models as ultimate driving machines for use on
closed-off roads.

Wheel sizes aligned to each axle, M forged light-alloy wheels
boasting a new design.
Axle-specific wheel sizes
ensure a particularly comprehensive transfer of lateral forces during
dynamic cornering. M forged light alloys are fitted as standard, with
19” wheels at the front and 20” at the rear fitted on both the BMW M4
Competition Coupé with M xDrive and the BMW M4 Competition Convertible
with M xDrive.

New M forged light-alloy wheels feature a double-spoke design
and, for the first time, with a silver finish. Their brightly shining
surfaces provide for a sporty, sophisticated and elegant look.

Assistance systems with a configurable range of
functions.
The ongoing further development of the range
of systems for automated driving and parking also contribute towards
an unmistakable driving experience. The driver assistance systems can
be controlled via the M Mode button located on the centre console in
order to guarantee the typically exhilarating experience of driving a
high-performance sportscar. For instance, in the TRACK mode, which is
designed for racetrack use, all comfort and safety systems are
temporarily deactivated. Park Distance Control with sensors at the
front and rear and Cruise Control with braking function are both
standard features on the new BMW M4 Coupé and the new BMW M4 Convertible.

The optional Driving Assistant package also includes Front
Collision Warning with brake intervention and Lane Departure Warning
including Lane Return function with steering assistance. Additional
optional features offered with the Driving Assistant Professional
package are, Steering and Lane Guidance Assistant with Automatic Speed
Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assistant, as well as Active Cruise Control
with Stop & Go function. The Parking Assistant facilitates
automatic parking (entering/leaving spaces) and also includes the
Reversing Assistant.

Modern design accents: New headlight design, taillights
featuring laser technology.
The redesigned headlights
give the front end of both the new BMW M4 Coupé and the new BMW M4
Convertible a modern look. The inside of the LED headlights is even
more distinctively structured. They also feature further developments
in their functionality as both the low and high beam are now produced
by the same LED module. Two vertical LED units, each aligned in an
arrowhead shape, assume the function of position and daytime running
lights as well as direction indicators. The technology-oriented design
of these new light sources provides for a sophisticated and
progressive look.

Adaptive LED headlights with anti-glare matrix high beam are
available as an optional feature. They are recognisable by the blue
inserts and feature an urban light and cornering light function. Using
the urban light function ensures optimised illumination of the
roadside areas when travelling at low speeds on roads identified by
the navigation data as built-up areas. The low beam function, however,
is only activated when a speed of 22 mph has been reached.
Furthermore, in conjunction with the adaptive LED headlights M Shadow
Line lights featuring dark accents inside are also available.

The adaptive LED headlights, available as part of the Technology
Pack, are combined with a both visually and technologically impressive
design of the LED taillights, which are available for all new versions
of all models of the BMW M4 Series and feature laser technology and a
fascinating light design. Inside, laser diodes produce an even
illumination of glass fibre bundles, the filigree, 3-dimensional light
graphics of which complement the taillight clusters. The
model-specific version of this innovative light scenario utilises a
technology presented for the first time on the limited edition of the
special high-performance model BMW M4 CSL, a model limited to 1,000
units worldwide.

A new design of the surrounding surface of the both the BMW logo
and the M logo at the rear of the Competition models add further
subtle accents for sophisticated elegance. The base of the BMW logo is
now finished in High Gloss Black. The BMW M GmbH brand logo situated
on the rear boot lid has been complemented by a silver surround.

A special feature designed exclusively for the model variants of
the new BMW M4 Coupé for customisation of the external appearance are
optional M design graphics for the bonnet and the rear boot lid. This
contrasting colour emphasises the sporting characteristics of the
two-door model and is available either in High Gloss Black or High
Gloss Red. The optional steel roof available at no extra cost, which
includes an electrically operated glass sliding roof, offers an
additional design accent: The sheet metal part of the roof is finished
in High Gloss Black instead of the body colour.

M-specific sportscar cockpit with new steering wheel designs
and interior trims.
The modern motor racing
environment inside the new versions of the high-performance models has
also undergone further development. New steering wheel designs and
control elements as well as high-class materials for the instrument
panel and interior trims enhance the exclusive ambience inside the
M-specific sportscar cockpits.

The standard M leather steering wheel with multifunction
buttons, two M buttons and shift paddles now convey to the driver an
even more intensive racetrack feel. The new design comprises a
flattened lower section of the steering wheel rim and concisely
modified spokes. A red centre marking in the 12 o’clock position
underscores the sporty orientation of the steering wheel design.
Moreover, for the first time, an M Alcantara steering wheel is
available as an option with the same design and range of functions. In
addition, a heating function is optionally available for both steering
wheel variants.

The M-specific cockpit arrangement also includes a control panel
on the centre console, on which the shift lever or gear selector
switch, the red Start/Stop button, the BMW iDrive Controller, the
Setup and M Mode buttons are situated. These can be activated for
individual vehicle configuration as well as for the range of functions
of cockpit displays and driver assistance systems, which can be
adapted to suit the driving situation at hand.

The combination of sporty flair and premium ambience inside the
vehicle highlights the characteristics of M. This is, amongst other
things, the result of high-quality design and finishing of the
materials used for the interior. The interior trims around the
dashboard, the control panel and the cupholder cover now come as
standard in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite M Interior trim, as well as
a Carbon Fibre finish available to order as an option. The optional
Luxury Instrument Panel features Sensatec material with black-grey
contrast stitching.

The electrically adjustable M sports seats come as standard and
offer , with integrated headrests and illuminated model logos. The
ideal position behind the wheel can be stored using the memory
function. Heated seats for both driver and front passenger are also
standard, with seat ventilation as an option. The standard leather
trim Merino, the all-leather trim Merino, the extended BMW Individual
leather trim Merino and the BMW Individual all-leather trim Merino are
all available in four different colours.

The optional and also fully electrically adjustable and heated M
Carbon bucket seats provide for an optimised connection between driver
and vehicle. They combine motor racing functionality with lightweight
design, cutting-edge workmanship and a high level of long-distance
comfort. The use of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic for the structural
elements of the seat and backrest, as well as cut-outs within the area
of the side bolsters and beneath the headrests result in a weight
reduction of 9.6 kilos compared with the standard sports seats.

In addition, an Air Collar system can be ordered as an exclusive
option for the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive. It
generates a three-stage adjustable airflow, providing pleasant warmth
from behind to both driver and front passenger, also during open-top
driving and regardless of the outside temperature.

BMW Curved Display and new BMW Operating System
8.5.
More than ever before, the new BMW M4 Coupé and the
new BMW M4 Convertible combine exclusive sportscar flair with advanced
digitalisation. M-specific information on the high-resolution BMW
Curved Display, which is inclined towards the driver, helps the driver
to focus fully on the task at hand. The fully digital display
combination comprises a 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel
and a control monitor with a 14.9-inch screen diagonal.

The BMW Curved Display serves as a platform for the current BMW
iDrive system used in the new BMW M4 Coupé and the new BMW M4
Convertible. The display and operating system, which also includes the
BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and is therefore actively designed
for touch and voice control, is now based on the BMW Operating System
8.5. The M-specific graphics and contents on the information screen
and on the control monitor have been complemented by a new form of
operation for the standard 3-zone automatic climate control.
Temperature setting, ventilation intensity, heating of both seat and
steering wheel can now, depending on how the vehicle is equipped,
either be controlled per touch control via a special menu option in
the lower part of the control display or by means of voice control.

There has been further refinement in the number of buttons and
controls in the cockpit, and the latest models benefit from the
introduction of a redesigned instrument panel. New control buttons for
the fresh air vents in the centre of the dashboard and on the driver’s
and front passenger’s side enable the setting of the desired direction
of airflow by rotating and tilting. The standard feature Ambient
Lighting now also includes contour lighting integrated into the cover
of the central air vents. Like with the illumination of the footwells
and the storage compartments by the centre console and door openers,
colour and brightness can be adapted according to individual
preferences. There is a choice of nine different colours. The range
of interior lighting also includes an atmospheric Welcome and Goodbye
scenario as well as light signals that indicate an open door and
incoming telephone calls.

The standard feature BMW Live Cockpit Professional also includes
the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. Another standard option is
the BMW Head-up Display, which projects in an M-specific style
driving-related information onto the windscreen, including
multi-coloured rev range representation, shift lights and M View.

Furthermore, the standard feature BMW Live Cockpit Professional
includes two USB ports for data transfer, a wireless network interface
as well as Smartphone integration, which enables the use of Apple
CarPlay® and Android Auto™. In addition, telephony with wireless
charging of compatible Smartphones and a hi-fi loudspeaker system with
10 sound sources and a 250 W power amplifier are all included in the
standard equipment range for the new BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M
xDrive and the new M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive.

Targeted customisation with M Carbon exterior package, M Race
Track package and BMW M Performance Parts.
A
model-specific M Carbon exterior package is available for precise
customisation of these high-performance automobiles, bringing to the
fore the racing character of both models even more intensively. The M
Carbon exterior package includes inserts for the wide-open front air
intakes and a rear diffuser, each featuring its own geometry, exterior
mirror caps and – exclusively for the BMW M4 Coupé – a CFP rear
spoiler. Vehicle weight has been reduced by up to 25 kilos thanks to
the likewise optionally available M Race Track package, which also
includes, in addition to M Carbon ceramic brakes, M Carbon bucket
seats for both driver and front passenger as well as interior trim
strips in High Gloss Carbon Fibre.

BMW Performance Parts provide additional options for adapting
the intensive driving experience and the dynamic aura of the new
high-performance sportscars to suit the driver’s very own preferences.
The spectrum of model-specific retrofit options encompasses exterior
CFP components, M Performance forged wheels with centre lock, M
Performance floor mats and M Performance steering wheel trims for
individualisation of the interior.

When it comes to the premium midsize segment, the number 4 stands for
the perfect combination of driving pleasure and elegant, sporty
design. These have been hallmark brand values of BMW since its
earliest days, and the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series
Convertible embody them now even more than ever.

The modified exterior design of these models underscores their
dynamic character and exclusive style. New exterior paint finishes and
headlights with an extremely striking design and, the now optionally
available, Laserlight rear lights showcase the latest advances in the
exterior of the two models.

Step inside these sporty two-door models and the new features of
the cabin are immediately apparent: the revised design of the steering
wheel and instrument panel, the seat coverings, the interior trim
elements and the now optionally available CraftedClarity glass
applications for selected controls. The cutting-edge cockpit design,
including the BMW Curved Display, provides the ideal stage for the
latest evolution of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, which is based on the
new BMW Operating System 8.5. Alongside this, customers can now also
choose to add an Augmented View display for the BMW Maps navigation
system as an option on their new BMW 4 Series.

Production of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4
Series Convertible will remain at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, which is
also the birthplace of many other executive class and luxury segment
cars from the brand, as well as the BMW 8 Series sports car and the
high-performance BMW M4 models.

Order books for the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series
Convertible are open in the UK from today, with two variants to choose
from – the 420i M Sport and the M440i xDrive. The new BMW 4 Series is
available to order now priced from £43,020, with customer deliveries
beginning in spring 2024.

Global segment leaders sharpen the sporting profile of the BMW
brand.
The evolution of the BMW 4 Series range is
anchored in the product substance that has helped it achieve such
outstanding popularity across all the major car markets. In a market
dominated by German premium carmakers, the coupé and convertible enjoy
clear leads in their respective segments both globally and in their
key individual markets.

This sales success has been accompanied by an extraordinarily
high level of customer satisfaction. In customer surveys, both the BMW
4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible achieve excellent approval
ratings. Customers placed particular emphasis on the dynamic driving
characteristics and emotionally rich design of both models, as well as
a premium feel characterised by high material and build quality. By
attracting such positive responses from customers, the BMW 4 Series
models have made a significant contribution to further enhancing the
brand’s profile as a maker of dynamically exceptional and elegantly
sporty premium cars.

Distinct characters with a shared focus on driving
pleasure.
For the past two model generations, BMW has
grouped its premium midsize coupés and convertibles into their own
model range. This has highlighted their particularly intense focus on
delivering the driving pleasure for which the brand is renowned. The
differentiation between the new BMW 4 Series models and the BMW 3
Series in terms of design can be found not only in their proportions
and lines, but also their distinctive front-end visuals. Wider tracks
and specific tuning for their chassis technology lay the groundwork
for superlative dynamic prowess. Within the BMW 4 Series range, the
coupé and convertible models represent distinct characters whose
individual vehicle concepts target different priorities.

The BMW 4 Series Coupé combines its dynamically flowing lines
and elegantly stretched proportions with a body optimised for extra
handling agility and boasting exceptional torsional rigidity, plus a
chassis tuned squarely for dynamic excellence. The individual-seat
character of the two rear seats helps to ensure that the passengers in
the second row also enjoy an exceptional driving experience. The
folding function of the three-section split rear seat bench increases
the versatility of the interior when it comes to accommodating larger
items for leisure activities and longer trips away.

Meanwhile, passengers in the BMW 4 Series Convertible’s four
seats can sample the sporty driving experience characteristic of the 4
Series together with the joy of open-top motoring. A highlight feature
specific to the BMW 4 Series Convertible is its panel bow soft-top
roof, which combines the solidity of a retractable hardtop with the
classical aesthetic of a fabric hood. The roof’s electric drive
mechanism can be activated while travelling at up to 31 mph; the
opening/closing process takes 18 seconds.

Exterior Design.
Striking visual cues point the way to
captivating dynamics.
Sporting potency and elegance
are the key themes reflected with authenticity in the design of the
BMW 4 Series models. Precise modifications to their exterior visuals
enable the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible to
express their unique characters even more clearly. The new features
sharpen the profile of the two models and provide eye-catching
pointers to their captivating dynamics, exclusivity and technological advances.

With their distinctive lines and clean surface treatment in the
brand’s modern design language, the coupé and convertible members of
the BMW 4 Series line-up exude driving pleasure and inimitable style.
With front foglamps no longer fitted, the generous surfaces of the
front apron on the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series
Convertible now have even greater visual impact. The features of the M
Sport add further punch to the cars’ dynamic appearance. They include
a diffuser element in the lower section of the rear bumper, which is
now painted in Black high-gloss. In addition, the exhaust tailpipes
integrated into the rear apron on the left and right have grown from
90 millimetres to 100 millimetres in diameter. As an extension to the
M Sport package, customers can also order their cars with the M Sport
package Pro and M Carbon exterior package.

Newly designed headlights, innovative Laserlight rear
lights.
Design cues specific to the BMW 4 Series include
the visually powerful front end shaped by slim LED headlights and a
vertically arranged BMW kidney grille. The air intakes of the
strikingly forward-angled grille have a mesh structure for M Sport
models.. Their surround now comes in matte chrome.

The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible also
feature visually and functionally upgraded headlights. The LED units
in their inner workings, which provide all the light functions, have
been redesigned and have a new structure. Low and high beam are
generated from a single LED module. And a pair of vertical and subtly
arrow-shaped LED units house the side light, daytime driving light and
turn signal indicator functions. The technically focused look of the
new light sources gives the headlights a high-quality and progressive appearance.

Adaptive LED Headlights with non-dazzling matrix high beam are
available as an option. They can be identified by blue inlays and
include urban lights and a cornering light function. The prism
structure of the LED units for the urban lights provides a striking
contrast against the uniform illumination of the daytime driving light units.

Also offered as part of the M Sport package Pro and if the
Adaptive LED Headlights are specified are M Shadowline lights with
dark inner accents. If the optional Comfort Access is fitted, the
headlights generate a Welcome Light Animation once the driver and
vehicle key come within three metres of the car.

The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible
specified with Adaptive LED Headlights are also fitted with
super-expressive Laserlight rear lights. This model-specific version
of an innovative lighting effect employs a technology first seen in
the BMW M4 CSL high-performance special edition produced in a limited
run of 1,000 examples. Here, laser diodes each illuminate a fibre
optic bundle, giving the rear units an intricate light graphic. The
precise lines of the three-dimensional Laserlight gives these rear
lights – which are making their debut in a volume-produced car – an
exclusive and unmistakable design.

New exterior paint shades and light-alloy
wheels.
Customers can give the outside of their new BMW
4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible a personal touch with
a choice of two solid and eight metallic paint finishes. Cape York
Green metallic and Fire Red metallic are new additions to the range.
And a wide variety of BMW Individual paint finishes and BMW Individual
special paint finishes are also offered.

Attractive new additions can also be found in the selection of
optional light-alloy wheels. The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4
Series Convertible are both offered for the first time with two new
19-inch variants. The new M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design can
be ordered in either Jet Black or a bi-colour finish.

Interior and equipment.
Progressive style and an aura of
carefully honed refinement.
Standard-fitted sport
seats and newly designed steering wheels feed into the intensity of
the driving experience in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4
Series Convertible. The large BMW Curved Display brings a fresh and
particularly modern interpretation of the driver focus for which the
brand is renowned. High-quality, meticulously crafted materials and a
new operating concept for ventilation and climate control systems add
to the cockpit’s premium allure. The modifications carried out to the
interior of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series
Convertible ensure those on board can enjoy driving pleasure with
progressive style and long-distance comfort in an ambience of
carefully honed refinement.

Among the cutting-edge new features is a version of the
optionally available seat surfaces that is making its debut in the new
BMW 4 Series Coupé and is produced using more sustainable methods.
Added to which, new interior trim strips are available for both the
coupé and convertible. And standard specification now also includes
ambient lighting and electrically folding exterior mirrors. The range
of optional equipment has been restructured to enable particularly
targeted individualisation.

New steering wheels with standard gearshift
paddles.
The latest-generation steering wheels
available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series
Convertible stand out with their modern and sporty design. As
standard, the driver will find in front of them a newly designed M
leather steering wheel in three-spoke design with a flat-bottomed rim
and a discreet centre marking.

The newly designed steering wheel has illuminated multifunction
buttons and gearshift paddles. Now fitted as standard, the paddles
enable particularly swift manual interventions in the gear selection
process and underscore the sharper sporting profile of the new BMW 4
Series models.

Detail revisions for the instrument panel, digital climate
control.
The introduction of the upgraded BMW iDrive
with QuickSelect also brings improved operation of the ventilation and
climate control functions in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and in the new
BMW 4 Series Convertible. This is a prime example of advanced
digitalisation at work and enables a further reduction in the number
of physical buttons and controls in the cockpit. Temperature
selection, intensity of ventilation and – if the relevant features are
specified – seat and steering wheel heating can now be adjusted by
touch via the BMW Curved Display or by voice command with the help of
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. New adjustment controls for
the air vent grilles in the centre of the instrument panel and on the
driver’s and front passenger side of the cockpit allow the direction
of airflow to be adjusted using rotating and tilting movements.
Specifying optional Sensatec trim for the instrument panel means
customers will now find a further refined surface structure which
further highlights the interior’s modern premium ambience.

The standard ambient lighting in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and
new BMW 4 Series Convertible now also includes contour lighting
integrated into the trim around the central seam vents. Like the
lighting for the footwells, the storage compartment in the front
section of the centre console and the door openers, this can be
adjusted for colour and brightness according to personal preference.
Users can choose from nine colours. The functionality of the interior
lighting also includes an atmospheric Welcome and Goodbye Animation
and light signals indicating an open door or incoming phone call.

Premiere for M Performtex seat covers in the new BMW 4 Series
Coupé.
The new BMW 4 Series Coupé comes with seat
surfaces in black M Performtex as standard. Making its debut in a BMW
model, this velours covering combines high material quality and a
sporty design with low weight and a sustainability-optimised
production method. Alternatively the standard-fit sport seats can be
combined as an option with interior surfaces in Sensatec perforated.

Vernasca leather trim with decorative quilting is standard on
the new BMW 4 Series Convertible and is now also offered in the new
bi-colour variant Black/Red. Vernasca is also available as an option
for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé. Both models can also be specified with
BMW Individual Merino leather trim in three colours.

New interior trim strips, exclusive touches with
CraftedClarity.
The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4
Series Convertible includes interior trim strips in Aluminium
Rhombicle Anthracite as standard, whilst Fineline Light Brown
open-pored and Grey Blue Ash open-pored fine-wood trim, and M interior
trim carbon fibre are available as options.

The use of extremely high-quality materials also allows
distinctive touches to be included in other areas of the interior to
enhance its modern premium character. Electroplated applications for
the control panel in the doors, which includes the window controls and
locking switch, are available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and the
new BMW 4 Series Convertible. And customers can also specify
CraftedClarity glass applications – another new addition to the
options list. These give the gear selector lever, BMW iDrive
Controller and Start/Stop button a particular air of exclusivity, both
visually and in how they feel to the touch.

Powertrain and driving experience.
Powerful, efficient
and supremely assured.
The line-up of powertrains for
the new BMW 4 Series range comprises powerful and highly efficient
petrol engines featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and
electrification in the form of 48V mild hybrid technology. All the
drive units deliver an exceptional blend of sporting driving pleasure
and fuel economy, all are part of the current modular generation of
Efficient Dynamics engines and all are paired with an eight-speed
Steptronic Sport transmission as standard. The shift paddles on the
steering wheel, allow quick manual interventions in the gear selection
process, adding to the dynamic driving experience.

Straight-six engines can be found under the bonnet of the M
Performance versions in both model series. The line-up also includes a
four-cylinder petrol engine developing 184 hp. The engine’s power is
fed to the road via either classical rear-wheel drive or the BMW
xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system fitted to the M440i models.

Mild hybrid technology optimises power delivery and
efficiency.
The six-cylinder in-line engine available
for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible, come
with 48V mild hybrid technology for sharper power delivery and greater
efficiency. The auxiliary electric drive takes the form of a 48V
starter generator and makes output of 11 hp instantly available in
response to the slightest movement of the accelerator. This electric
boost enhances the drive system’s dynamic response when accelerating
off the line and putting in mid-range bursts of speed. The electric
drive unit also assists the engine when travelling at a constant
speed, allowing it to operate within an efficiency-optimised load
range as often as possible.

The mild hybrid system additionally allows the use of electric
power recuperated via Brake Energy Regeneration and stored in a 48V
battery. The energy harvested efficiently in this way is not only used
for the auxiliary electric drive, but also fed to the 12V electrical
system with the help of a voltage transformer. This allows the
vehicle’s electrical consumers to be operated even more efficiently.

Bespoke chassis technology for a sporty driving
experience.
Excellent body rigidity, intelligent
lightweight design, 50:50 weight distribution and optimised
aerodynamic properties provide an ideal basis for endowing the new BMW
4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible with remarkably agile
and dynamic handling abilities. This is further helped by
sophisticated chassis technology that has been tuned precisely for the
weight spread at hand.

Lift-related dampers refine the balance between captivating
sporting prowess and superb long-distance comfort. M Sport suspension
is fitted as standard, with optional adaptive M suspension available
to further customise the car’s character.

Wide variety of systems for automated driving and
parking.
The range of systems for automated driving and
parking is just as extensive. The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4
Series Convertible are fitted as standard with the front collision
warning system with brake intervention, Cruise Control with brake
function, Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator, manual Speed
Limit Assist and Lane Departure Warning with lane return. The standout
optional extra is the Driving Assistant Professional package
comprising the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise
Control with Stop&Go function, automatic Speed Limit Assist, route
speed control and traffic light recognition.

Park Distance Control with sensors at both the front and rear is
also part of standard specification. The Parking Assistant, which also
comes as standard, enables automated manoeuvring into and out of
parking spaces, as well as featuring a Reversing Assist Camera and the
Reversing Assistant. There is also the option of the Parking Assistant
Plus with Park View, Panorama View and Remote 3D View functions.

The M Performance models in the new BMW 4 Series range.
Distinctive characters top the model range.
The
new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible range is
spearheaded by elite sporting models cast in the familiar M mould. The
performance cars from BMW M GmbH showcase the dynamic potential woven
into the vehicle concepts of the BMW 4 Series range to highly
impressive effect. Extremely powerful six-cylinder in-line engines, a
bespoke chassis set-up and signature M design cues both inside and out
mark them out as a proposition apart.

The M Performance models in the BMW 4 Series are available in
the UK with a 3.0 litre petrol engine. The M-typical performance
attributes of the straight-six petrol units are underpinned by, among
other things, the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology. The 48V mild
hybrid technology, with an output of 11 hp, also produces an electric
boost effect that gives the engines even sharper response.

The six-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the BMW M440i xDrive
Coupé and BMW M440i xDrive Convertible generates maximum output of 374
hp and peak torque of 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). M Sport suspension with
variable sport steering can be found on the standard equipment list
for the range-topping models, along with an eight-speed Steptronic
Sport transmission with an ultra-sharp shift action, M Sport brakes
and the M Sport differential.

New-look BMW kidney grille, black tailpipe finishers as
standard.
An array of select design flourishes
announces the dynamic character of the M Performance models even more
vividly. For instance, the new edition of these models features a BMW
kidney grille with a surround in Black high-gloss and horizontally
arranged bars adorned by an M logo. All the front apron elements that
were previously finished in Cerium Grey now come in Black high-gloss.
As a result, the models’ appearance when viewed from the front recalls
the design of the BMW M4 high-performance sports cars to an even
greater extent.

At the rear end of the M Performance models, trapezoidal
tailpipe trim signals the presence of the ultra-potent power unit
under the bonnet. They are now in Black high-gloss as standard,
meaning that all elements of the M High-gloss Shadowline trim option
are already included in the standard specification of these models.

Exclusive touches: M exterior mirror caps, carbon fibre
diffuser.
Another design element from the BMW M4 range
has been incorporated into the flanks of the latest M Performance
models from the BMW 4 Series, with M exterior mirrors in twin-stalk
design included as a standard feature.

The optional M Carbon exterior package comprises exterior mirror
caps and inserts for the outer air intakes made from carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The new BMW 4 Series Coupé also
sports a carbon-fibre Gurney lip rear spoiler. This optional extra
also adds a carbon-fibre diffuser in the lower section of the rear
apron that is exclusive to the M Performance models.

Heightened sports car ambience in the cabin on M Performance
models.
Sport seats trimmed in the new M Performtex
upholstery for Coupé models and Vernasca leather for the Convertible,
interior trim elements in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite, M door sill
trim, M pedals, an M driver’s footrest and M-specific graphics for the
BMW Curved Display characterise the distinctive aura inside the M
Performance models. M Sport seats trimmed in Vernasca leather can be
specified as an option for the range-topping versions of the new BMW 4
Series Coupé and are available in a choice of Black with blue contrast
quilting or the new Black/Coral Red bi-colour finish.

A new version of the M leather steering wheel turns up the
sports car feel inside the flagship models another notch. Its
flat-bottomed rim, red centre marker and contrast stitching in BMW M
GmbH colours help to make the driving experience aboard the M
Performance models in the new BMW 4 Series range even more engaging.

Display and control/operation system, connectivity.
The
new BMW Operating System 8.5 and innovative digital
services.
The advances made in terms of digitalisation
in the latest edition of the BMW 4 Series are also clear to see. This
is mainly thanks to the upgraded BMW iDrive display and
control/operation system with QuickSelect based on BMW Operating
System 8.5. In order to provide intuitive, easy control of numerous
functions along with access to innovative digital services, the
latest-generation BMW iDrive system fitted in the new BMW 4 Series
Coupé and the new BMW 4 Series Convertible features a new-look home
screen and QuickSelect rapid access tech, bringing an improved menu
structure that takes its cue from consumer electronics devices.

The enhanced BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect is packaged
together with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant, meaning it has been carefully geared to operation using the
touchscreen and natural language. The control/operation system in the
new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible additionally
comprises multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and, as an
option, the BMW Head-Up Display. The new BMW iDrive helps to deliver a
focused, assured driving experience by showing the right information
in the right place.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect: functions shown on a single level
and selectable with rapid-access tech.
The new BMW
Operating System 8.5 home screen continuously displays the navigation
system’s map view or other individually configurable graphics on the
control display. On the same level, widgets appear in a vertical
arrangement on the driver’s side of the display. Drivers can switch
between them with a vertical swipe of the finger. The QuickSelect
feature allows the function selected in this way to be activated
directly without having to enter a submenu. And once the relevant
settings have been chosen, a quick tap on the home icon at the lower
edge of the control display is all it takes to return to the home
screen. Icons for direct access to the climate control menu, All Apps
menu and, if activated, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ can also now
be found next to the home icon.

The new flat menu structure makes it much easier to activate the
desired functions and settings. The digital content – just like the
hardware in the form of the BMW Curved Display – is designed to
enhance the driver focus for which BMW is renowned.

BMW Maps navigation system now with Augmented
View.
The cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system forms
part of the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus. Following the introduction
of BMW Operating System 8.5 in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW
4 Series Convertible, the system now makes it even easier to input
destinations and can offer additional information while driving.

Another new feature is the Augmented View function which, like
the BMW Head-Up Display, is available by specifying the optional BMW
Live Cockpit Professional. This supplements the navigation system’s
map display by showing a live video stream of the driver’s view on the
control display or instrument cluster and augmenting it with tips and
information to match the context. At confusing junctions, for
instance, an animated directional arrow is integrated into the video
image to help the driver take the best turn-off for the planned route.
The Augmented View function can also come to the driver’s aid when
searching for a parking spot by showing supplementary information.

Personalisation using the BMW ID and My BMW
App.
Drivers of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW
4 Series Convertible will also find it easier to use their BMW ID to
personalise the user experience. In future, signing in to the vehicle
by using a smartphone to scan a QR code is all it will take to import
the customer’s personal profile, synchronise settings and
automatically link the key detected in the vehicle with the BMW ID.

The vehicle is also added to the My BMW App without the customer
having to do anything. Available free of charge from the app stores
for both iOS and Android, the My BMW App acts as a universal digital
interface that provides information at any time on the vehicle’s
status, for example, its remaining range and any servicing and
maintenance requirements. Depending on the car’s specification, it
also enables remote operation of functions such as locating the
vehicle, locking and unlocking the doors or monitoring the car’s
immediate vicinity and interior with Remote View. The My BMW app can
additionally be used to send destination addresses from a smartphone
to the vehicle’s navigation system. The My Trips feature including
Efficiency Trainer and monthly review provides the user with data and
evaluations for distances travelled, fuel consumption and average speed.

Optimum connectivity with Personal eSIM and 5G mobile
standard.
Customers of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and
the news BMW 4 Series Convertible can activate the Personal eSIM as
standard, in addition to the vehicle’s built-in mobile SIM. This
enables the vehicle to use the 5G mobile communications standard. The
Personal eSIM allows the customer to use the communications and
connectivity functions covered by their mobile contract from their car
with ease – even in situations where they don’t have their smartphone
with them. This also includes data streaming via the WiFi hotspot.

A low-radiation connection to the vehicle’s exterior antenna is
used for making phone calls and streaming data via the Personal eSIM.
All phone functions can be operated with the BMW iDrive system or the
BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The Personal eSIM can be used in
all countries where BMW Connected Drive services are available. It
extends the customer’s existing mobile phone contract, which may
result in additional costs.

Taking steps to further reduce the company’s carbon
footprint.
Highly efficient engines, intelligent
lightweight design and optimised aerodynamic attributes make a
significant contribution to enhancing driving pleasure in the new BMW
4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible, at the same time as
lowering fuel consumption and emissions. Meanwhile, the 48V mild
hybrid technology deployed on certain models sharpens power delivery
and improves efficiency. As well as the bonnet, front side panels and
doors, numerous chassis components are also made from aluminium. And
with a Cd as low as 0.25 in the case of the coupé and as low as 0.27
for the convertible, the two models can claim an impressive drag coefficient.

The sport seats for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé are trimmed in M
Performtex – the first time this surface material has been available
in the brand’s models – as part of a new production process generating
lower CO2 emissions. The new EfficiencyCoach in the My BMW App offers
helpful tips for more efficient driving. To this end, this assistant
system analyses the fuel consumption figures and compares them with
both the figures from the previous month and those achieved by other
drivers in the community with comparable engines. It then uses this
information as the basis for recommendations on more efficient driving.

In the interests of creating an even more sustainable overall
concept, growing importance is attached to the use of secondary raw
materials –alongside further optimised use of materials and
energy-optimised production methods. For the BMW brand, the twin goals
of increasing sustainability and achieving premium standards are
inextricably linked, rather than competing factors.

As well as working tirelessly to optimise vehicle efficiency,
the BMW Group is committed to the Paris Climate Agreement. And it has
teamed up with the renowned Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to
put in place CO2e reduction targets for its supply chain, production
and use phase as part of its drive to achieve climate neutrality. At
the heart of the company’s ambitious sustainability goals is the aim
of cutting CO2 emissions by 40 per cent per vehicle across the entire
value chain by 2030, compared with the figure from 2019. At the same
time, the BMW Group is pursuing the objective of full climate
neutrality throughout the value chain by 2050 at the latest.

Original BMW Accessories and BMW M Performance Parts for even
more customisation.
In addition to the M Sport
package, M Sport package Pro and M Carbon exterior package available
as factory-fit options, the BMW M Performance Parts range offers
further scope to sharpen the profile of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé and
new BMW 4 Series Convertible.

The model-specific retrofit options from the Original BMW
Accessories range have been developed using the proven expertise of
BMW M GmbH in motorsport. They underscore the dynamic aura of the new
BMW 4 Series Coupé and new BMW 4 Series Convertible and rise to the
technical challenges presented by the need for lightweight design and
aerodynamics. With exclusive design, high-class materials and
top-notch quality, these items for the exterior, chassis and cockpit
go the extra mile to transfer the feel of the race track to the road.

Among the items available to enhance the cars with further
race-inspired looks are the M Performance front ornamental grille
carbon fibre and the M Performance side sill attachment part carbon
fibre. The light-alloy wheels available for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé
and new BMW 4 Series Convertible likewise enhance their visual
exclusivity and can be ordered in 18-inch or 19-inch format. Also
offered are 20-inch M Performance forged wheels. With their
weight-reduced construction and fitment with mixed-size/sports tyres
for optimised transfer of cornering forces, they also enhance the
dynamic performance of the cars. Interior equipment highlights include
the M Performance seat back pans in Alcantara/carbon fibre, the M
Performance interior trim strips carbon fibre and the M Performance
door sill trim carbon fibre.
Awards • The coveted Technology Award is presented to BMW i7 • 4 Series Coupé and 4 Series Convertible retain their awards from 2022</pp:summary>

BMW has celebrated a successful start to the new year, securing a
trio of award wins at the 45th annual What Car? Car of the
Year Awards. The all-new BMW i7, the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4
Series Convertible were each recognised as best in their respective categories.

The recently launched BMW i7 took home the highly coveted ‘What
Car? Technology Award’. Remarking on the win, Steve Huntingford,
Editor, What Car? commented, "The What Car? Technology Award
celebrates game-changing technology, and the Theatre Screen in the BMW
i7 is exactly that, revolutionising in-car infotainment.”

The all-electric flagship was also commended for its “sumptuous
interior, fantastic refinement, long range and superb ride and
handling balance”. Huntingford continued: “the BMW i7 is a fabulous
car to travel in, whether you’re driving or being driven. In fact, we
think it’s the best electric luxury car on sale.”.

First announced in April 2022, the BMW i7 harmonises driving
pleasure, passenger comfort and a luxurious ambience without
compromise. The 31.3” Theatre Screen in the rear passenger compartment
redefines in-car entertainment and sets a new benchmark in the
industry. Powered by a duo of electric motors, the i7 xDrive60
delivers a maximum combined output of 544hp and completes the 0 to
62mph sprint in just 4.7 seconds – all with zero local emissions.

The BMW 4 Series Coupé retained its title for a third
consecutive year, securing ‘Coupé of the Year’. Huntingford praised
the “great all-rounder” for its ability to combine class-leading
agility with a comfortable ride. “In fact, it’s even good at the
things coupés traditionally don’t do well; there’s space for adults in
the back and a big boot.”

Also retaining its 2022 accolade, the BMW 4 Series Convertible
impressed judges, taking the top spot as ‘Convertible of the Year’. On
presenting the win, What Car? judges said, "A great convertible
should allow its driver to enjoy open-top thrills when the weather
permits, but still be comfortable, engaging and easy to live with when
the sun isn't playing ball. And the 4 Series Convertible absolutely
delivers.” The 4 Series Convertible was also commended for its
“classy, user-friendly interior” and “surprising practicality”. “It’s
truly a car for all seasons.” judges added.

Echoing the bold style of the 4 Series Coupé, the BMW 4 Series
Convertible was launched in late 2020 and blends sporting driving
pleasure with open-air thrills, advanced chassis technology and
impressive levels of standard equipment.
sporty feel, an effect enhanced by the standard High-gloss Black
finish for the BMW kidney grille surround.

Meanwhile, full Merino leather/Alcantara upholstery in the new
Black/Sakhir Orange colour scheme brings even more contemporary style
to the interior. The BMW iDrive operating system now also comes with a
larger 12.3-inch Central Information touchscreen display for greater
ease of use.

Naturally, the new flagship M model complements its
comprehensive specification with motorsport-bred performance. Power is
provided by a 4.4-litre V8 engine with its 625hp transmitted to the
road via the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and
the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

The new M8 Competition makes its debut in Spring and is priced
from £123,300 RRP and is available to order now.

BMW M GmbH developed drivetrain optimises performance and
poise
Powertrain and chassis technology engineered to
deliver an exhilarating driving experience is a key element of all
three versions of the M8 Competition. The formidable performance is
generated by a V8 4.4-litre engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology
that develops 625hp and peak torque of 750Nm. In customary M fashion,
the engine’s appetite for revs enables it to produce high levels of
torque over a wide rpm band, while an eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system
ensure this power is channelled to the road to optimum effect. These
powertrain elements work together with great precision to deliver
phenomenal performance – such as 0-62mph acceleration in just 3.2
seconds (BMW M8 Competition Coupé and BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé)
or 3.3 seconds (BMW M8 Competition Convertible).

Chassis technology developed using expertise from motorsport and
tuned for each specific model ensures the harmonious mix of
excitement, agility and precision that marks out the handling of cars
from BMW M. Experience garnered in the development of the BMW M8 GTE
racing car was also brought to bear here.

Eight new exterior colours, premiere for M lights Shadow
Line
The BMW M8 Competition incorporates aerodynamic
lines and M-specific design features geared to the requirements of a
high-performance sports car. New exterior colours now bring extra
impact to the body’s clean surface design. The updated selection of
exterior paint finishes for the trio of models includes eight new shades.

The new range of exterior colours includes Skyscraper Grey,
Brooklyn Grey, Isle of Man Green metallic and Individual Tanzanite
Blue. These are joined by four new variants of the highly
sophisticated Individual Frozen paint finishes including Frozen Pure
Grey and Frozen Tanzanite blue. Customers can also specify the BMW
Individual special paint finishes available on request.

New 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in star-spoke
design
The chassis technology on the new BMW M8
Competition models allies electronically controlled dampers and
electromechanical M Servotronic steering to an integrated braking
system offering two pedal-feel settings, allowing the driver to choose
between a more comfort-oriented or a direct, sporty response.
Customers can opt for M Carbon ceramic brakes as an alternative to the
entry Red M Compound brakes – these standard brakes can also be
switched to either a blue or black calliper finish.

The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system offers the option of
engaging M Dynamic Mode, which allows increased wheel slip while the M
xDrive system provides a rear-biased set-up. 20-inch M light alloy
wheels fitted with high-performance tyres measuring 275/35 R 20 at the
front and 285/35 R 20 at the rear also come as standard. Further M
light alloy wheels can be found on the list of optional extras,
including a new model in star-spoke design with a bi-colour Black/Grey finish.

M sport seats and M Carbon bucket seats in new
leather/Alcantara upholstery variant
The interior of
the new BMW M8 Competition models blend unmistakable M-style cockpit
design and modern luxury. The standard BMW Head-Up Display features
M-specific readouts. The Setup button on the centre console offers
direct access to the settings for the engine, dampers, steering, M
xDrive and brakes, enabling drivers to configure their own individual
M Setup. Two different setups can be stored permanently, together with
the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound, gearshift
characteristics, driving stability control system and Auto Start-Stop
function, and then selected by pressing one of the two M buttons on
the steering wheel. In addition, the M Mode button on the centre
console can be used to alter both the responses of the driver
assistance systems and the information shown in the instrument cluster
and Head-Up Display, with a choice of ROAD, SPORT and TRACK settings.

The standard M sport seats are another factor that supports the
intense driving experience. For authentic racing-car flair, there is
also the option of M Carbon bucket seats for the driver and front
passenger. Boasting a structure-led design, exposed carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) surfaces, integral head restraints,
cut-outs in the backrest and side bolsters, plus guides for
multi-point seat belts, these seats combine racing functionality with
excellent comfort over long distances and sumptuous workmanship. They
are heated and electrically adjustable with a memory function on the
driver’s side and also come with an illuminated “M8” badge in the head restraints.

The interior of the new BMW M8 Competition models is trimmed in
full Merino leather/Alcantara upholstery as standard, whether they are
fitted with the M sport seats or M Carbon bucket seats. This
upholstery is also available in a Black/Sakhir Orange colour scheme
for the first time, and all variants feature black Alcantara sections
that have now been extended to cover the instrument panel and the tops
of the door shoulders.

12.3-inch Central Information Display for greater ease of
use
BMW Live Cockpit Professional also forms part of the
comprehensive standard specification for the BMW M8 Competition. This
brings a large control display (increased in size from 10.25 to 12.3
inches) with touchscreen functionality which enables quick, easy and
intuitive operation of a wealth of vehicle functions.

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional features include the
online-based navigation system BMW Maps and the BMW Intelligent
Personal Assistant. The inclusion of the Driving Assistant, Parking
Assistant Plus including Reversing Assistant, wireless charging and
Harman/Kardon Surround Sound System as standard on the new BMW M8
models further underlines their exclusive character.

Eight ‘Best Buy’ recommendations for BMW and a win for MINI

BMW is celebrating a triumphant start to 2022 after winning more
awards than any other manufacturer at the 44th annual What
Car? Awards, with five coveted category wins across the brand’s model
portfolio.

The BMW 3 Series, 4 Series Coupé, 4 Series Convertible, 5 Series
and X5 xDrive45e were all recognised as best in their respective
class, with BMW also winning a further eight ‘Best Buy’ awards. MINI
snapped up the award for ‘Best Small Car Interior’.

BMW 330e and BMW 530e retained their awards from 2021, taking
home the highly contested ‘Executive Car of the Year’ and ‘Luxury Car
of the Year’ awards respectively.

Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car? commented “The 330e
represents the brilliant BMW 3 Series at its very best, because it
offers a long enough electric range to cover a typical daily commute,
while keeping running costs low for private and company car drivers
alike. It's well thought out inside, too, with an infotainment system
that's better than those of rivals, and plenty of space for your
family. Add in the fact that the 330e retains the fun handling we've
come to expect from the 3 Series, and you've got a truly special car”.

The BMW 4 Series Coupé added another award to its collection as
it was named ‘Coupé of the Year’, taking its total to nine UK industry
awards since it was launched in October 2020. Huntingford praised the
model’s silhouette, suspension and driving pleasure, noting “The 4
Series Coupé has the bulletproof underpinnings of the 3 Series, but
with a sexier silhouette, a stiffer structure, retuned suspension and
a wider rear. In other words, what you lose in practicality, you gain
(big time) in aesthetic appeal and driving pleasure. It trounces
rivals in bends with the standard suspension, and even more so with
the M Sport adaptive set-up”.

The 4 Series Convertible was named ‘Convertible of the Year’,
with judges praising both the spacious interior and dynamic yet
efficient petrol engine, stating “refinement is excellent in the new 4
Series Convertible, whether you have the roof up or down. Plus, that
roof is lighter than before, which contributes to this latest 4 Series
drop-top being even better to drive than its predecessor. The punchy
and pleasantly frugal petrol engine in our favourite version is
another strength. And the interior is both spacious enough for four
and smartly finished”.

The BMW X5 xDrive45e impressed the What Car? team with its
“remarkable efficiency and long electric range”. It won ‘Luxury SUV of
the Year’ with judges adding: “the BMW X5 xDrive45e is hard to beat as
an overall package because it's smooth, classy and luxurious.”

The honours continued for BMW, with the brand securing Best Buy
wins across an impressive eight categories, including Best Family Car
Interior (BMW 1 Series), Best Luxury SUV for Big Families (BMW X7),
Best Estate Car to Drive (BMW 3 Series Touring) and Best Estate Car
Interior (BMW 5 Series Touring).

Numerous electrified BMW models were also successful with BMW i4
named the Best Large Electric Car Interior, BMW iX winning Best
Electric SUV for Long Distances and BMW iX3 securing Best Electric SUV
to Drive. Finally, the BMW X5 xDrive45e also took home Best Plug-in
Hybrid for Long Distances.

£81,915 OTR
• Production commencing in July 2021

BMW M GmbH has revealed its most exclusive M car in the premium
midsize segment with the debut of the BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive.

Blending convertible style with a 510hp six‑cylinder in‑line
engine and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the new arrival
complements track-focused M performance with an exhilarating open-air
driving experience.

With the M xDrive system delivering optimum traction, the BMW
M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive can sprint from 0-62mph in only
3.7 seconds. The M xDrive system also enhances handling, but a
rear-biased setup means the classic M-style driving experience is
always available.

Signature M design features and a new panel bow softtop roof
create a standout appearance that is accentuated when the roof is
open. The BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive provides room for
four people to experience the exciting drive, with front seat
occupants benefitting from the standard-fit Air Collar system. This
directs warm air to the back of the neck and head, ensuring the
interior is always comfortable, even when the roof’s down.

The new BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive follows
the recent UK launch of the BMW M3 Competition Saloon and BMW M4
Competition Coupé. M xDrive versions of both models will start
production in the summer, completing the M high performance sports car
offering in the premium midsize segment.

Production of the BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive will
begin in July 2021.

Elegant profile enhanced with innovative new panel bow softtop roof
The new BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive instantly shows
an uncompromising commitment to sheer driving pleasure and
racing-inspired characteristics. Its new panel bow softtop roof
complements crisp body lines to generate a distinctive, powerful
profile. The roof delivers the best of both worlds, fusing the
practical benefits of a retractable hardtop with the classic style of
a fabric hood. It is also around 40 per cent lighter than its
predecessor’s retractable hardtop.

The softtop’s electric drive mechanism allows it to be opened or
closed, while on the move, at speeds up to 31 mph. The process takes
just 18 seconds. When driving with the top down, the boot can hold
300 litres of luggage, an increase of 80 litres over its predecessor.
When it’s closed, the variable softtop compartment increases load
capacity to 385 litres.

With the roof either open or closed, the vehicle’s profile
accentuates the M-specific design features. The front-end lines of the
car converge on the vertical BMW kidney grille and, together with the
large apertures to either side, the kidney grille ensures sufficient
cooling air is always channelled through to the powertrain and
braking. The slim headlights use LED units as standard to generate
both low and high beam. Adaptive LED Headlights with BMW Laserlight
can be ordered as an option.

Other unmistakeable design elements of the new
BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive include flared wheel arches, M
Side Gills integrated into the front side panels and prominently
extended side sills that combine with the attachment parts for the
front and rear aprons to form a black band around the whole of the
car. The black rear diffusor frames the exhaust system’s two pairs of
tailpipes. An M Carbon exterior package is available as an option,
while the retrofit options from the BMW M Performance Parts range
provide further scope for individualisation.

Six-cylinder in-line engine with a high-revving character
The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine in the new
BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive combines the hallmark
high-revving character of engines developed by BMW M GmbH with the
latest version of M TwinPower Turbo technology. The engine delivers
throughout the rev range, generating peak torque of 650Nm between
2,750 and 5,500rpm, while maximum output is reached at 5,510rpm and
then maintained up to the 7,200rpm redline.

The engine channels its power via an eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission with Drivelogic and, combined with the enhanced traction
offered by M xDrive, contributes to stunning acceleration times. The
new BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive takes just 3.7 seconds to
power from 0 to 62mph and only 13.1 seconds to reach 124mph from
standstill. Midrange acceleration from 50-75mph takes only 2.8 seconds
(in 4th gear) or 3.7 seconds (in 5th gear). Specifying the optional
M Driver’s Package increases the electronically limited top speed from
155mph to 174mph.

Like the cooling system, the oil supply system has been designed
to handle track driving. The M-specific exhaust system with
electrically controlled flaps delivers a distinctive engine note that
enhances the overall performance experience, particularly when the
car’s roof is open.

M xDrive: precise power distribution, supreme performance
The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system deployed in the new
BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive uses an electronically
controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case to ensure fully
variable and super-smooth distribution of the engine’s power between
the front and rear wheels. Its rear-wheel bias adds to the signature
M feeling while significantly enhancing both traction and agility. The
multi-plate clutch’s oil supply has been optimised to enable sustained
all-wheel-drive performance even in hard track driving. The M xDrive
teams up with the Active M Differential at the rear axle to deliver
optimum handling capabilities.

The Setup menu allows the driver to change the default 4WD
setting to 4WD Sport mode, which directs a greater proportion of the
engine’s drive to the rear wheels. Drivers can also switch off the DSC
system altogether and engage 2WD mode. In this setting, drive power is
relayed solely to the rear wheels and there is no intervention from
the chassis control systems to stabilise the vehicle. This allows
skilled drivers to enjoy a highly engaging driving experience.

Model-specific body stiffening and chassis technology
The handling qualities of the new BMW M4 Competition Convertible
M xDrive are characterised by its supreme steering precision. The high
torsional stiffness of the body structure and chassis mountings
creates the perfect basis for precisely controllable handling. Key
features include bracing elements focused on enhancing driving
dynamics and an aluminium shear panel in the front-end structure,
underfloor bracing elements and a rear axle subframe with a rigid
connection to the body. The convertible also benefits from unique
torsion struts at the rear of the body.

A bespoke version of the double-joint spring strut front axle
also factors in the specific demands connected with all-wheel drive,
featuring specially adapted axle geometry and an individually tuned
steering ratio. The five-link rear axle on the new BMW M4 Competition
Convertible M xDrive boasts meticulously refined kinematics and elastokinematics.

The convertible puts its power down via forged M light-alloy
wheels measuring 19 inches in diameter at the front and 20 inches at
the rear.

The M Servotronic steering enables accurate turn-in when
powering through bends on the one hand and effortless parking
and manoeuvring on the other. It does so by combining the benefits
of speed‑sensitive power assistance and a variable steering ratio.
The new BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive also features adaptive
M suspension with electronically controlled dampers.

The range of functions of the DSC stability control system
includes M Dynamic Mode that allows extra wheel slip at the push of a
button to induce an exceptionally sporty driving experience. Drivers
also benefit from the new M Traction Control function as standard,
which allows them to set individual intervention thresholds for wheel
slip limitation through ten stages.

M Carbon bucket seats and M-specific control/operation system
The interior of the new BMW M4 Competition Convertible M xDrive
blends a contemporary feel with performance-focused M highlights, such
as the M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, M-specific
gearshift lever and red colour accents. Electrically adjustable and
heated M Sport seats and Extended Merino leather trim come as
standard, as does the innovative Air Collar system that enhances
comfort for occupants when the roof is down by directing warm air
around their necks.
A highlight of the options list are the new
heated M Carbon bucket seats. Their structure-based design fuses
racing functionality with a lightweight construction and excellent
comfort over long distances.

The M-specific control/operation system of the BMW M4
Competition Convertible M xDrive includes the Setup button on the
centre console. This provides direct access to the settings options
for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system and M xDrive. Two
overall vehicle setups can be stored and called up by pressing one of
the M buttons on the steering wheel. The control panel on the centre
console also houses the M Mode button as standard. This can be used to
adjust the responses and characteristics of the driver assistance
systems and the displays in the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display
to deliver a driving experience suited to the situation at hand.

Extensive standard equipment and enhanced driving assistance systems
Standard equipment including three-zone automatic climate
control, LED interior lighting with ambient lighting and Harman Kardon
HiFi system enhance comfort in everyday driving and over longer
journeys. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a fully digital
display grouping, the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps and the
BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant also come as standard in the new
BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive.

The technological progress made since the predecessor model is
also reflected in the significantly expanded availability of driving
assistance systems. New additions include the Steering and Lane
Control Assistant complete with Active Navigation function – which are
part of the optional Driving Assistant Professional – and the
standard-fit Reversing Assistant.

Customers can choose from a variety of optional Packages –
Comfort, M Carbon, Visibility, Technology Plus, M Pro and Ultimate.
Each has been compiled to further elevate the M experience and tailor
it to the customer’s preference, the individual components perfectly
complementing each other.
extensive testing at Nordschleife and other circuits.
• Available
now with prices starting from £123,435 OTR.

The BMW M GmbH is embarking on its first foray into the world of
luxury motoring with two new high-performance sports cars, the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and M8 Competition Convertible.

The new models derive their performance from the most powerful engine
ever developed for a BMW M GmbH car: a high-revving V8 unit with M
TwinPower Turbo technology developing 625hp. Two turbochargers,
cross-bank exhaust manifolds, direct injection with increased
pressure, plus cooling and oil supply systems designed for driving at
the limit on the track combine to deliver supreme performance and handling.

The high-performance power unit is aligned to an eight-speed M
Steptronic, before it is channelled to the road via the M xDrive
all-wheel-drive system. The rear-wheel bias of M xDrive delivers
assured handling with optimised traction. The performance-focused
character of the engine and transmission enables the BMW M8
Competition Coupé to sprint from zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and
from zero to 124 mph in 10.6 seconds while the Convertible will
complete the task in 3.3 and 11.1 seconds respectively.

All models have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph,
rising to 189 mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified. The
Coupé’s average fuel consumption is 25.2-25.4 mpg with CO2 emissions
of 253-252 g/km while the Convertible’s fuel combined fuel consumption
is 25-25.2 mpg with CO2 emissions of 256-254 g/km.

V8 engine with signature M performance traits

The high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine in the new models works
alongside two turbochargers – positioned in the ‘V’ between the
cylinder banks for optimised efficiency – and indirect charge air
cooling help the engine to deliver outstanding performance.

The specially tuned responses of the engine powering the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and Convertible means that peak torque of 750Nm is
delivered at 5,800 rpm and develops a maximum output of 625hp at
6,000rpm. The V8 teams up with a special engine mounting for a more
rigid connection with the vehicle structure. This results in even more
direct engine response and immediate transmission of power to the
drivetrain. The stiffer engine mounting also has a positive effect on
the immediacy of turn-in and the transmission of engine noise into the
cabin.

Model-specific exhaust system with a racing soundtrack

The engine’s immense thrust is accompanied by a stirring soundtrack
courtesy of the model-specific exhaust system that features twin
tailpipes with a diameter of 100 millimetres apiece. The acoustic
character also changes according to the set up selected by the driver.
Whichever mode is engaged, the driver can dial down the engine’s aural
impact using the M Sound Control button on the centre console. By
selecting SPORT PLUS the engine’s response and sound becomes even
closer to the world of motor racing.

M xDrive all-wheel-drive system

The rear-wheel-biased version of the M xDrive system only brings the
front wheels into play when the rear wheels reach their
power-transferring limits and additional traction is required. The
driver can also configure the distribution of power between the front
and rear wheels, as required, via the Setup menu. The default 4WD
provides maximum traction and controllable handling while 4WD Sport
mode turns the intensity of the driving experience up another notch
with a noticeable sharpening of the car’s agility. Here, the system
diverts a larger slice of engine power to the rear wheels.
Deactivating the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) transfers
power exclusively to the rear wheels for a more exhilarating drive.

Chassis: Poise and performance of the highest order

Minimised weight, a low centre of gravity, an ideally sized wheelbase
and exceptionally wide tracks along with excellent torsional rigidity
from the M-specific chassis ensure the BMW M8 Competition models stand
out for pure driving enjoyment. It is the result of extensive testing
at BMW Group’s test track in Miramas in southern France, the winter
testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and the Nürburgring Nordschleife,
along with other race circuits. Experience collected from the
development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car also played a role in the
configuration process.

The model-specific chassis technology has been designed and tuned
with the specific demands of track use in mind while also delivering
every-day driving and long-distance comfort.

settings for the engine, suspension, steering and braking,
independently of one another, using the Setup button on the centre
console. Through the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the driver is
also able to adjust how power is distributed between the front and
rear wheels. The engine characteristics can be adjusted by means of
the EFFICIENT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT
and SPORT PLUS chassis options give access to the three profiles for
the electronically controlled dampers. The driver can also choose
between COMFORT and SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical
steering and the new braking system. When DSC is deactivated, the 4WD,
4WD SPORT and 2WD (pure rear-wheel drive) settings for the M xDrive
all-wheel-drive system also come into play.

Two individually composed variants of this M setup can be stored
permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound,
gearshift characteristics of the eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission, driving stability control and Auto Start Stop function.
The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up at any time by
pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel.

Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers

Both BMW Competition models feature standalone configuration and
tuning of selected chassis components to deliver agile handling. The
vehicle setup has been carefully adjusted to the engine’s higher
output, generating an exclusive racing-car feel. Both cars utilise
M-specific Adaptive suspension that has electronically controlled
dampers. The basic damper setup, therefore, can be varied at the touch
of a button.

The Competition models’ bespoke modifications translate first and
foremost into superior steering precision and cornering dynamics. It
starts with the extra-stiff engine mounting to ensure greater
precision on turn-in while increased camber at the front axle enhances
their ability to absorb lateral forces through highspeed corners.

M Servotronic steering with variable ratio

Another factor in delivering the driving experience for which M
models have become renowned is M Servotronic steering. The
electromechanical system combines speed-sensitive power assistance and
a variable steering ratio, enabling exactly the right amount of
steering torque for every situation. The result is accurate turn-in
and sensitive communication of the steering wheel’s movements when
powering through bends and effortless manoeuvring and parking at low
speeds.

Steering response can also be varied by pushing a button to select
one of two settings. COMFORT mode combines cornering accuracy with
well-resolved steering feel, while also providing the driver with
plenty of feedback. In SPORT mode the steering is even more
communicative and noticeably greater force is required to turn the
wheel in more dynamic driving situations.

Premiere for integrated braking system with M-specific configurability.

The M compound brakes are standard for the new BMW M8 Competition
models. The drilled, inner-vented discs on the front wheels are 395
millimetres in diameter and feature six-piston fixed callipers. The
rear wheels work with single-piston floating callipers and
380-millimetre discs. The optional M carbon-ceramic brakes – with
400-millimetre discs at the front axle and 380-millimetre discs at the
rear – provide even greater stopping power, resistance to fade and
thermal stability, not to mention an extraordinary ability to fend off wear.

Both brake variants are fitted in conjunction with an M-specific
version of an integrated braking system. Thanks to this cutting-edge
technology, the brake activation, brake booster and braking control
functions are brought together within a compact module. The integrated
system reduces weight by around two kilograms and employs a
vacuum-free brake booster to enhance the car’s overall efficiency.

The version of the new braking system developed for BMW M models also
offers two pedal feel settings. COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the
amount of pressure on the brake pedal required to slow the car. The
driver can therefore choose between more comfort-oriented and
particularly direct, instantaneous response when braking.

M Dynamic mode for an exceptionally sporty drive

The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is interlinked with both M
xDrive all-wheel drive and the Active M Differential. Its range of
functions includes the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake
Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Automatic Differential
Brake (ADB-X), Brake Assist, Dry Braking function and Start-Off
Assistant. The driver has the option of activating M Dynamic mode as
an alternative to the default setting by pressing a button on the
centre console. This mode allows a greater degree of wheel slip and
combines with the M xDrive system’s rear-biased set-up for sportier
driving. DSC can be deactivated at the push of a button.

Design: The perfect fusion of dynamic prowess and luxury

Measuring 4,867 millimetres in length, 1,907 millimetres wide, 1,362
millimetres tall, and with a 2,827-millimetre wheelbase (and
1,627-millimetre front track and 1,632-millimetre rear track), the new
BMW M8 Competition models display the hallmark proportions of a
luxury-class sports car. Their dynamic appearance is shaped by a
low-slung body, stretched outline, slim window graphic and roofline
flowing into the rear.

Character-defining features of the Coupé include the double-bubble
contour of its M carbon roof, reminiscent of classic racing cars.
Passengers in the Convertible are protected from the elements by a
high-quality fabric roof pulled taut over the cabin. The multi-layer
soft-top opens and closes in 15 seconds at the touch of a button while
the electric mechanism can be activated while driving at up to 31mph.
Once opened, the soft-top stows away flat under a high-quality cover
whose surface structure matches that of the instrument panel, door and
side-panel trim.

Signature M design features point to top-level performance

A model-specific take on BMW M design points to outstanding power and
handling. Along with the BMW kidney grille, the three extra-large
elements of the front apron’s intake satisfy the engine, transmission
and braking system’s need for cooling air. The grille features the
black double bars familiar from other M models and displays the ‘M8’
logo in High-gloss black. Both cars have a grille surround and model
lettering also in High-gloss Black.

All new BMW M8 models are fitted as standard with Adaptive LED
headlights, while the optional BMW Laserlight with Selective Beam can
be identified by blue accents inside the twin headlights.

Another exclusive feature is the suitably prominent Air Breathers
with integrated M gills in the front side panels. M-specific design
features include the exterior mirrors painted in High-gloss Black
while the M-specific rear apron incorporates a diffuser inlay in
contrasting colour, with the M Sport twin exhaust tailpipes in Black
Chrome. Both cars are fitted with a spoiler on the boot lid in Black.

The optional M Carbon exterior package includes inlays for the front
air intakes, exterior mirror caps, M gills in the side panels, plus a
rear diffuser in Black. A notch in the centre of the spoiler mirrors
the double-bubble contour of the roof.

The Competition models ride on 20-inch forged M light-alloy wheels in
a bicolour, star-spoke design as standard, fitted with 275/35 R 20
tyres at the front and 285/35 R 20 tyres at the rear.

Interior
The interior design features red accents on the M leather
steering wheel’s M buttons and the start/stop button on the centre
console. The newly designed transmission selector lever with
Drivelogic switch is leather-surfaced with an embedded M logo and
stitching in M GmbH colours.

The newly developed sports seats have perforated 3D quilting,
pronounced side bolsters, clearly defined shoulder areas and integral
head restraints with illuminated model badges. Full Merino leather
trim is standard, and both cars come exclusively with bicolour
leather/Alcantara trim. The standard-fit M Sport seats feature the BMW
Individual headliner.

Equipment: New control concept, bespoke comfort, intelligent connectivity

A new control system makes it possible to tailor the high-performance
sports cars’ set-up even more closely to personal preferences and the
situation at hand.

BMW’s Comfort Access system, telephony with wireless charging, the
BMW Display Key, Adaptive LED headlights and ambient lighting are all
included as standard. There is also the option of BMW Laserlight with
BMW Selective Beam, which generates a high-beam range of up to 600
metres. As well as boasting a BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific
readouts, the new M8 Competition models also come with the Driving
Assistant and Parking Assistant Plus as standard, while an array of
further driver assistance systems are available as options. The BMW
Live Cockpit Professional – including navigation system and the BMW
Intelligent Personal Assistant – is also standard equipment and
provides full access to the latest digital services from BMW Connected
and BMW ConnectedDrive.

BMW Live Cockpit Professional

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional also brings the benefits of the new
BMW Operating System 7.0 to the M8 Competition models. Its fully
digital screen grouping comprises a high-resolution instrument cluster
behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a
10.25-inch Control Display. The driver has a choice of the Control
Display’s touchscreen, the familiar iDrive Touch Controller, the
controls on the steering wheel, voice control or BMW’s gesture control.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is another element of the
operating system. The digital companion can be activated with the
spoken prompt “Hey BMW” and helps the driver to use vehicle functions.
What’s more, he constantly acquires new skills thanks to the updates
transmitted by Remote Software Upgrade.

The standard Head-Up Display projects driving-related information
onto the windscreen and directly into the driver’s field of view. It
employs full-colour graphics and allows the driver to see a wealth of
information without having to divert their eyes from the road.

The M Mode

The M Mode button on the centre console making its debut in the new
BMW M8 Competition models can be used to alter both the responses of
the driver assistance systems and the information shown in the
instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M Mode allows the driver to
activate ROAD, SPORT and a TRACK setting. Changing the mode alters the
information presented to the driver on the screens, while the
safety-enhancing interventions by the driver assistance systems – such
as active braking or steering inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum
or deactivated altogether.

In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional driver
assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M Mode
button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions, for
example. This mode allows all interventions in the braking and
steering systems to be disabled, aside from those made by the
Collision Warning with braking function and the Evasion Assistant.

In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the instrument
cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant information for
sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial, the shift
lights, a digital speed display and the gear currently engaged – is
displayed in the cockpit. The Head-Up Display readout is concentrated
around the engine revs and shift lights, navigation instructions and
distance warnings, the gear selected and the vehicle speed, plus the
speed limits and overtaking restrictions detected by the Speed Limit
Info system. Pressing the M Mode button again returns the driver to
the default ROAD mode.

An extended press of the M Mode button engages TRACK mode. The
decision to activate this mode must be confirmed using the iDrive
Controller. In this setting, all the comfort and safety functions of
the driver assistance systems are deactivated. In addition, the audio
system and Control Display are both switched off in order to focus the
driver’s attention even more intently on the road ahead. The
instrument cluster and Head-Up Display also include M View. In TRACK
mode road sign detection and distance information does not display.
Pressing the M Mode button again takes the car out of the TRACK
setting and back into ROAD mode.

State-of-the-art driver assistance systems offer customised
comfort and safety

The standard Driving Assistant can be supplemented with a wide choice
of other driver assistance systems designed to ease the driver’s
workload in monotonous driving situations and so enhance both comfort
and safety. Customers can also opt for the Driving Assistant
Professional that adds features such as the steering and lane control
assistant, the lane keeping assistant with active side collision
protection, the Evasion Assistant, junction warning, wrong-way driving
warning and front-crossing traffic warning systems.

The standard Parking Assistant Plus also includes a rear-view camera,
Top View, Panorama View and 3D Top View functions as well.

Generous standard equipment plus exclusive options

The standard M Sport seats offer multi-way electric adjustment with
memory function and allow the fore/aft position, backrest angle,
backrest width and thigh support to be varied as required. They also
include a semi-electric folding function for the backrests that makes
getting in and out easier for passengers in the rear, as well as
electric adjustment of the head restraints, which automatically drop
down to their lowest position once the engine has been switched off.
The rear backrest has a 50:50 split as standard, allowing one or both
sections to be folded down and increase luggage capacity. When the
rear backrest is upright, the Coupé offers 420 litres of boot space
and the Convertible 350 litres. Automatic boot lid operation is yet
another standard feature, as is hands-free opening and closing of the
boot lid.

Rollover protection system is standard, and it consists of two
protective bars behind the rear head restraints that automatically
extend when the car is at risk of turning over. Standard equipment
also includes a wind deflector, which can be set up in the rear-seat
area to prevent unwanted air turbulence when driving with the roof
down. The M Sport seats in the open-top come equipped with air
collars, whose air outlets integrated into the head restraints can
provide a pleasant warming effect in cooler weather.

A number of exclusive optional extras include active seat ventilation
in the front seats, sun protection glass and a Heat Comfort package
(featuring heated armrests in the doors and on the centre console for
the driver and front passenger, plus a heated steering wheel) and the
Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system with fully active
16-channel amplifier and up to 16 speakers, some of which are illuminated.

The all-new BMW M8 Coupé and Convertible is on sale from now with
prices starting from £123,435 OTR.

luxury motoring with two new high -performance sports cars, the BMW M8
Competition Coupé and M8 Competition Convertible.

The new models derive their performance from the most powerful
engine ever developed for a BMW M GmbH car: a high-revving V8 unit
with M TwinPower Turbo technology developing 625hp. Two turbochargers,
cross-bank exhaust manifolds, direct injection with increased
pressure, plus cooling and oil supply systems designed for driving at
the limit on the track combine to deliver supreme performance and
handling.

Competition Coupé to sprint from zero to 62mph in 3.2 seconds and from
zero to 124mph in 10.6 seconds while the Convertible will complete the
task in 3.3 and 11.1 seconds respectively.

All models have an electronically limited top speed of 155mph,
rising to 189mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified. The
Coupé’s average fuel consumption is 25.2-25.4mpg with CO2 emissions of
253-252g/km while the Convertible’s fuel combined fuel consumption is
25-25.2mpg with CO2 emissions of 256-254g/km.

V8 engine with signature M performance
traits
The high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine in the new
models works alongside two turbochargers – positioned in the ‘V’
between the cylinder banks for optimised efficiency – and indirect
charge air cooling help the engine to deliver outstanding performance.

This results in even more
direct engine response and immediate transmission of power to the
drivetrain. The stiffer engine mounting also has a positive effect on
the immediacy of turn-in and the transmission of engine noise into the cabin.

Model-specific exhaust system with a racing
soundtrack
The engine’s immense thrust is accompanied
by a stirring soundtrack courtesy of the model-specific exhaust system
that features twin tailpipes with a diameter of 100 millimetres
apiece. The acoustic character also changes according to the set up
selected by the driver. Whichever mode is engaged, the driver can dial
down the engine’s aural impact using the M Sound Control button on the
centre console. By selecting SPORT PLUS the engine’s response and
sound becomes even closer to the world of motor racing.

M xDrive all-wheel-drive system
The
rear-wheel-biased version of the M xDrive system only brings the front
wheels into play when the rear wheels reach their power-transferring
limits and additional traction is required. The driver can also
configure the distribution of power between the front and rear wheels,
as required, via the Setup menu. The default 4WD provides maximum
traction and controllable handling while 4WD Sport mode turns the
intensity of the driving experience up another notch with a noticeable
sharpening of the car’s agility. Here, the system diverts a larger
slice of engine power to the rear wheels. Deactivating the Dynamic
Stability Control system (DSC) transfers power exclusively to the rear
wheels for a more exhilarating drive.

Chassis: Poise and performance of the highest
order
Minimised weight, a low centre of gravity, an
ideally sized wheelbase and exceptionally wide tracks along with
excellent torsional rigidity from the M-specific chassis ensure the
BMW M8 Competition models stand out for pure driving enjoyment. It is
the result of extensive testing at BMW Group’s test track in Miramas
in southern France, the winter testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and
the Nürburgring Nordschleife, along with other race circuits.
Experience collected from the development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car
also played a role in the configuration process.

The model-specific chassis technology has been designed and
tuned with the specific demands of track use in mind while also
delivering every-day driving and long-distance comfort.

Setup button for direct access to the configuration of
all
powertrain and chassis systems
The BMW M8
Competition models allow the driver to choose various settings for the
engine, suspension, steering and braking, independently of one
another, using the Setup button on the centre console. Through the M
xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the driver is also able to adjust how
power is distributed between the front and rear wheels. The engine
characteristics can be adjusted by means of the EFFICIENT, SPORT and
SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS chassis
options give access to the three profiles for the electronically
controlled dampers. The driver can also choose between COMFORT and
SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical steering and the new
braking system. When DSC is deactivated, the 4WD, 4WD SPORT and 2WD
(pure rear-wheel drive) settings for the M xDrive all-wheel-drive
system also come into play.

Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled
dampers
Both BMW Competition models feature standalone
configuration and tuning of selected chassis components to deliver
agile handling. The vehicle setup has been carefully adjusted to the
engine’s higher output, generating an exclusive racing-car feel. Both
cars utilise M-specific Adaptive suspension that has electronically
controlled dampers. The basic damper setup, therefore, can be varied
at the touch of a button.

The Competition models’ bespoke modifications translate first
and foremost into superior steering precision and cornering dynamics.
It starts with the extra-stiff engine mounting to ensure greater
precision on turn-in while increased camber at the front axle enhances
their ability to absorb lateral forces through highspeed corners.

M Servotronic steering with variable
ratio
Another factor in delivering the driving
experience for which M models have become renowned is M Servotronic
steering. The electromechanical system combines speed-sensitive power
assistance and a variable steering ratio, enabling exactly the right
amount of steering torque for every situation. The result is accurate
turn-in and sensitive communication of the steering wheel’s movements
when powering through bends and effortless manoeuvring and parking at
low speeds.

Steering response can also be varied by pushing a button to
select one of two settings. COMFORT mode combines cornering accuracy
with well-resolved steering feel, while also providing the driver with
plenty of feedback. In SPORT mode the steering is even more
communicative and noticeably greater force is required to turn the
wheel in more dynamic driving situations.

Premiere for integrated braking system with M-specific
configurability.
The M compound brakes are standard for
the new BMW M8 Competition models. The drilled, inner-vented discs on
the front wheels are 395 millimetres in diameter and feature
six-piston fixed callipers. The rear wheels work with single-piston
floating callipers and 380-millimetre discs. The optional M
carbon-ceramic brakes – with 400-millimetre discs at the front axle
and 380-millimetre discs at the rear – provide even greater stopping
power, resistance to fade and thermal stability, not to mention an
extraordinary ability to fend off wear.

The version of the new braking system developed for BMW M models
also offers two pedal feel settings. COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the
amount of pressure on the brake pedal required to slow the car. The
driver can therefore choose between more comfort-oriented and
particularly direct, instantaneous response when braking.

M Dynamic mode for an exceptionally sporty
drive
The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is
interlinked with both M xDrive all-wheel drive and the Active M
Differential. Its range of functions includes the Anti-lock Braking
System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control
(DBC), Automatic Differential Brake (ADB-X), Brake Assist, Dry Braking
function and Start-Off Assistant. The driver has the option of
activating M Dynamic mode as an alternative to the default setting by
pressing a button on the centre console. This mode allows a greater
degree of wheel slip and combines with the M xDrive system’s
rear-biased set-up for sportier driving. DSC can be deactivated at the
push of a button.

Design: The perfect fusion of dynamic prowess and
luxury
Measuring 4,867 millimetres in length, 1,907
millimetres wide, 1,362 millimetres tall, and with a 2,827-millimetre
wheelbase (and 1,627-millimetre front track and 1,632-millimetre rear
track), the new BMW M8 Competition models display the hallmark
proportions of a luxury-class sports car. Their dynamic appearance is
shaped by a low-slung body, stretched outline, slim window graphic and
roofline flowing into the rear.

Character-defining features of the Coupé include the
double-bubble contour of its M carbon roof, reminiscent of classic
racing cars. Passengers in the Convertible are protected from the
elements by a high-quality fabric roof pulled taut over the cabin. The
multi-layer soft-top opens and closes in 15 seconds at the touch of a
button while the electric mechanism can be activated while driving at
up to 31mph. Once opened, the soft-top stows away flat under a
high-quality cover whose surface structure matches that of the
instrument panel, door and side-panel trim.

Signature M design features point to top-level
performance
A model-specific take on BMW M design
points to outstanding power and handling. Along with the BMW kidney
grille, the three extra-large elements of the front apron’s intake
satisfy the engine, transmission and braking system’s need for cooling
air. The grille features the black double bars familiar from other M
models and displays the ‘M8’ logo in High-gloss black. Both cars have
a grille surround and model lettering also in High-gloss Black .

All new BMW M8 models are fitted as standard with Adaptive LED
headlights, while the optional BMW Laserlight with Selective Beam can
be identified by blue accents inside the twin headlights.

Another exclusive feature is the suitably prominent Air
Breathers with integrated M gills in the front side panels. M-specific
design features include the exterior mirrors painted in High-gloss
Black while the M-specific rear apron incorporates a diffuser inlay in
contrasting colour, with the M Sport twin exhaust tailpipes in Black
Chrome. Both cars are fitted with a spoiler on the boot lid in Black.

The optional M Carbon exterior package includes inlays for the
front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, M gills in the side panels,
plus a rear diffuser in Black. A notch in the centre of the spoiler
mirrors the double-bubble contour of the roof.

The Competition models ride on 20-inch forged M light-alloy
wheels in a bicolour, star-spoke design as standard, fitted with
275/35 R 20 tyres at the front and 285/35 R 20 tyres at the rear.

Interior
The interior design features red
accents on the M leather steering wheel’s M buttons and the start/stop
button on the centre console. The newly designed transmission selector
lever with Drivelogic switch is leather-surfaced with an embedded M
logo and stitching in M GmbH colours.

The newly developed sports seats have perforated 3D quilting,
pronounced side bolsters, clearly defined shoulder areas and integral
head restraints with illuminated model badges. Full Merino leather
trim is standard, and both cars come exclusively with bicolour
leather/Alcantara trim. The standard-fit M Sport seats feature the BMW
Individual headliner.

Equipment: New control concept, bespoke comfort, intelligent
connectivity
A new control system makes it possible to
tailor the high-performance sports cars’ set-up even more closely to
personal preferences and the situation at hand.

BMW’s Comfort Access system, telephony with wireless charging,
the BMW Display Key, Adaptive LED headlights and ambient lighting are
all included as standard. There is also the option of BMW Laserlight
with BMW Selective Beam, which generates a high-beam range of up to
600 metres.

The BMW Live
Cockpit Professional also brings the benefits of the new BMW Operating
System 7.0 to the M8 Competition models. Its fully digital screen
grouping comprises a high-resolution instrument cluster behind the
steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a 10.25-inch
Control Display. The driver has a choice of the Control Display’s
touchscreen, the familiar iDrive Touch Controller, the controls on the
steering wheel, voice control or BMW’s gesture control.

The standard Head-Up Display projects driving-related
information onto the windscreen and directly into the driver’s field
of view. It employs full-colour graphics and allows the driver to see
a wealth of information without having to divert their eyes from the road.

The M Mode
The M Mode button on the centre
console making its debut in the new BMW M8 Competition models can be
used to alter both the responses of the driver assistance systems and
the information shown in the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M
Mode allows the driver to activate ROAD, SPORT and a TRACK setting.
Changing the mode alters the information presented to the driver on
the screens, while the safety-enhancing interventions by the driver
assistance systems – such as active braking or steering inputs – are
reduced to a bare minimum or deactivated altogether.

In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional
driver assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M
Mode button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions, for
example. This mode allows all interventions in the braking and
steering systems to be disabled, aside from those made by the
Collision Warning with braking function and the Evasion Assistant.

In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the
instrument cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant
information for sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial,
the shift lights, a digital speed display and the gear currently
engaged – is displayed in the cockpit. The Head-Up Display readout is
concentrated around the engine revs and shift lights, navigation
instructions and distance warnings, the gear selected and the vehicle
speed, plus the speed limits and overtaking restrictions detected by
the Speed Limit Info system. Pressing the M Mode button again returns
the driver to the default ROAD mode.

The standard Driving Assistant
can be supplemented with a wide choice of other driver assistance
systems designed to ease the driver’s workload in monotonous driving
situations and so enhance both comfort and safety. Customers can also
opt for the Driving Assistant Professional that adds features such as
the steering and lane control assistant, the lane keeping assistant
with active side collision protection, the Evasion Assistant, junction
warning, wrong-way driving warning and front-crossing traffic warning
systems.

The standard Parking Assistant Plus also includes a rear-view
camera, Top View, Panorama View and 3D Top View functions as well.

Generous standard equipment plus exclusive
options
The standard M Sport seats offer multi-way
electric adjustment with memory function and allow the fore/aft
position, backrest angle, backrest width and thigh support to be
varied as required. They also include a semi-electric folding function
for the backrests that makes getting in and out easier for passengers
in the rear, as well as electric adjustment of the head restraints,
which automatically drop down to their lowest position once the engine
has been switched off. The rear backrest has a 50:50 split as
standard, allowing one or both sections to be folded down and increase
luggage capacity. When the rear backrest is upright, the Coupé offers
420 litres of boot space and the Convertible 350 litres. Automatic
boot lid operation is yet another standard feature, as is hands-free
opening and closing of the boot lid.

A number of exclusive optional extras include active seat
ventilation in the front seats, sun protection glass and a Heat
Comfort package (featuring heated armrests in the doors and on the
centre console for the driver and front passenger, plus a heated
steering wheel) and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound
system with fully active 16-channel amplifier and up to 16 speakers,
some of which are illuminated.

The all-new BMW M8 Coupé and Convertible is on sale from now
with prices starting from £123,435 OTR.

Munich. The feeling of an M car is unmistakable – and
now it can be tailored even more closely to the individual. BMW M GmbH
is unveiling a new display and control system for the configuration of
the powertrain, chassis and driver assistance systems on its
high-performance sports cars. As well as additional scope for adapting
the vehicle settings both to the situation at hand and to personal
preferences using the Setup button, drivers will also enjoy the
services of the new M Mode (activated at the touch of a button). The
Setup button can be used to adjust the vehicle settings, while M Mode
allows the displays and driver assistance systems to be tuned to the
driver’s requirements. This extra individualisation and even more
intuitive operation will be included for the first time in the new BMW
M8 Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 10.6
– 10.5 l/100 km [26.7 – 26.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 242 –
238 g/km; provisional figures), and the new BMW M8 Convertible and BMW
M8 Competition Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 10.8 – 10.6
l/100 km [26.2 – 26.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 246 – 241
g/km; provisional figures). With the help of these new features,
drivers of BMW’s high-performance models for the luxury segment can
enjoy their exceptional range of abilities – from supreme
long-distance comfort to alluring track dynamics – in even greater depth.

The control system developed for BMW M models traditionally enables
their powertrain and chassis technology to be configured in a wide
variety of ways according to personal tastes and needs. Indeed, the
driver can activate various settings for the engine, suspension and
steering independently of one another. In models specified with the M
xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the distribution of power between the
front and rear wheels can also be tweaked. And now the new BMW M8
Coupe and new BMW M8 Convertible offer the ability to configure the
braking system as required, too.

New Setup button enables intuitive operation with direct
access to all powertrain and chassis systems.

The new Setup button on the centre console of the new BMW M8 Coupe
and new BMW M8 Convertible enables direct access to all available
setup options for five vehicle parameters. Pressing the button brings
up a Setup menu in the Control Display, which offers an overview of
the vehicle settings currently engaged. The driver can then activate
their desired mode for the engine, suspension, steering, brakes and M
xDrive – in a single step in each case – via the touchscreen or the
iDrive Controller.

The engine characteristics can be adjusted by means of the EFFICIENT,
SPORT and SPORT PLUS settings, while the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS
chassis options give access to the three profiles for the
electronically controlled dampers. The driver can also choose between
COMFORT and SPORT for both the M-specific electromechanical steering
and the new braking system. When DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is
deactivated, the 4WD, 4WD SPORT and 2WD (for pure rear-wheel drive)
settings for the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system also come into play.
Two individually composed variants of this setup can be stored
permanently with the driver’s preferred settings for the engine sound,
gearshift characteristics, driving stability control and Auto Start
Stop function. The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up
instantly at any time by pressing one of the two M buttons on the
steering wheel.

Premiere in the BMW M8: integrated braking system with precise
pedal feel and M-specific configurability.

The M-specific version of a new braking technology paves the way for
the configuration of braking characteristics, a feature available for
the first time in the new BMW M8. The new system brings together the
brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a
compact module. The integrated braking system reduces weight by around
two kilograms and employs a vacuum-free brake booster to enhance the
car’s overall efficiency. The brake pressure required is triggered by
an electric actuator, which allows it to be generated more dynamically
and also ensures significantly faster and more precise interventions
from the driving stability control system.

The integrated braking system also does an excellent job of allowing
vehicle deceleration to be geared precisely to the driver’s
requirements and of generating sublime pedal feel in any situation.
Braking feedback to the driver is unimpaired by wet road surfaces,
significant lateral acceleration or high brake temperatures, and this
ensures precise metering of braking power at all times. The version of
the new braking system developed for BMW M models also presents the
driver with two pedal feel settings.

COMFORT and SPORT modes alter the amount of pressure on the brake
pedal required to slow the car. This allows the driver to choose
between a comfort-oriented perception of the braking process and a
particularly direct, instantaneous response to applications of the
pedal. The new BMW M8 teams this innovative system with both the
standard M compound brakes and optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.

Pure driving pleasure through innovation: the M Mode button.

In addition to the new configuration options opened up by the Setup
button, the new BMW M8 also allows the gearshift characteristics of
the eight-speed Steptronic transmission to be adjusted using the
Drivelogic button on the selector lever and the engine sound to be
varied via a separate button on the centre console. M Dynamic Mode –
which raises the intervention thresholds for the driving stability
control and allows controlled drifts – and DSC Off mode can also be
initiated at the touch of a button.

A fresh addition to the new flagship models from BMW M GmbH is the M
Mode button on the centre console. This can be used to alter the
responses of the driver assistance systems and the screens in the
all-digital instrument cluster and Head-Up Display. M Mode allows the
driver to activate ROAD and SPORT modes, while the new BMW M8
Competition Coupe and BMW M8 Competition Convertible also come with a
TRACK setting. These options enhance the hallmark M driving experience
according to the situation at hand. Changing the settings alters the
information presented to the driver on the screens, while the
safety-enhancing interventions by the driver assistance systems – such
as active braking or steering inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum
or deactivated altogether.

In the default ROAD setting, all the standard and optional driver
assistance systems are fully activated. A simple press of the M Mode
button engages the SPORT setting, in which the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) now only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions. This mode
disables all interventions in the braking and steering systems, aside
from those made by the Collision Warning with braking function and the
Evasion Assistant.

In SPORT mode, the driver benefits from M View in both the instrument
cluster and the Head-Up Display. Here, only relevant information for
sporty driving – i.e. an M-specific engine speed dial and the shift
lights (which indicate the ideal time to change gear), a digital speed
display and the gear currently engaged – is displayed in the cockpit.
Information on coolant temperature, charge pressure, tyre condition,
and longitudinal and lateral acceleration can be viewed in the right-
and left-hand areas of the instrument cluster. The Head-Up Display
read-out is concentrated around the engine revs and shift lights,
navigation instructions and distance warnings, the gear selected and
the vehicle speed, plus the speed limits and overtaking restrictions
detected by the Speed Limit Info system. Pressing the M Mode button
again returns the driver to the default ROAD mode.

An extended press of the M Mode button engages TRACK mode, which is
available in the Competition models and designed exclusively for use
on race circuits. The decision to activate this mode must be confirmed
using the iDrive Controller. In this setting, all the comfort and
safety functions of the driver assistance systems are deactivated. In
addition, the audio system and Control Display are both switched off
in order to focus the driver’s attention even more intently on the
road ahead. TRACK mode allows drivers of the new BMW M8 Competition
Coupe and new BMW M8 Competition Convertible to experience an
ultra-pure, racing-car-inspired distillation of M feeling. Added to
which, the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display also include M View,
although TRACK mode blanks out the road sign detection and distance
information. Pressing the M Mode button again takes the car out of the
TRACK setting and back into ROAD mode.

gearbox are just some of the features in the new 2018 MINI 3-Door
Hatch, MINI 5-Door Hatch and MINI Convertible, which will launch at
MINI retailers across the UK on 17 March 2018.

The changes are focused on driver appeal and core new technologies,
including MINI Connected Concierge services, wireless smartphone
charging and first-in-class options such as new anti-dazzle adaptive
headlights with Matrix high beam.

Bright and dazzle-free: Font and rear LED lights now standard.
First-in-class adaptive LED headlights with Matrix high beam
optionally available.

The exterior character of the new MINI range has been refreshed with
the introduction of a new front and rear LED light design, enhancing
the on-road presence of the new MINI 3-Door Hatch, MINI 5-Door Hatch
and MINI Convertible.

All versions of MINI Hatch and MINI Convertible sold in the UK get
the same front and rear LED lamps as standard, for the first time in
this segment. The LED lamps have a stronger, brighter beam pattern
than the outgoing halogen headlamps, while the daytime running lamps
and indicators are also LED-based, forming a new ring design around
the headlights themselves. The three-dimensional LED rear lamps
cleverly incorporate horizontal turn signals and vertical brake lamps
within a distinctive new light cluster. The LED lamps benefit from
greater long-distance visibility, without dazzling other road users.

First-in-class new ‘Matrix’ adaptive LED headlamps will be offered as
an option on the new MINI Hatch and Convertible range, which
automatically adjusts brightness using a matrix of different light
elements to cater for specific road conditions.

For example, the lamps can offer additional illumination to the side
of the road in both urban and rural areas, while the high beam lights
have greater intensity at motorway speeds, without dazzling oncoming drivers.

The adaptive LEDs also feature an automatic selective dip function
when on high beam, which automatically extinguishes the parts of the
lamp which may dazzle other drivers, while at the same time offering
optimal illumination.

Each lamp is divided into four horizontally arranged segments, which
are activated and deactivated independently of one another at speeds
of over 45mph. The high beam segments effectively ‘read’ the road, and
as soon as the MINI front camera registers an oncoming vehicle or a
vehicle driving ahead, the space that vehicle occupies is only
illuminated at low beam brightness.

This is done by deactivation of the Matrix segments that cover the
space in question, while the remaining areas of the road continue to
be illuminated at high beam brightness.

New MINI logo: reduced to the essentials.

The 2018 MINI range will also see the debut of an all-new MINI logo
on the vehicle. The new badge has a flat two-dimensional design,
reflecting MINI’s new brand identity with its focus on the essentials
– namely key values such as driving fun, distinctive design, premium
quality and emotional appeal.

The new logo appears on the bonnet, tailgate, steering wheel,
instrument display and central locking remote control on all models.

Three new colours, including premiere for Piano Black Exterior.

The range of body finishes available for the new MINI range includes
three brand new colours, namely Emerald Grey metallic, Starlight Blue
metallic and Solaris Orange metallic.

In addition, exterior options now include an additional means of
customising the exterior design – a popular practice among MINI
customers. With the Piano Black Exterior pack, the surrounds of the
headlights, rear lights and radiator grille are finished in high-gloss
black instead of chrome.

The choice of alloy wheels has been expanded, too. 17-inch ‘Roulette’
and ‘Propeller’ designs are now available for all body variants of the
new MINI Hatch and Convertible, along with a new ‘Rail’ two-tone wheel.

New leather trims, interior surfaces and colour lines.

A broad selection of seat surfaces, interior surfaces and colour
lines add a touch of individual style to the interior of the new MINI
range. These include Chester leather trim in Malt Brown and a colour
line now also available in Malt Brown.

A brand new option for 2018, MINI Yours Interior in Piano Black,
provides MINI Hatch and Convertible customers with the option of a
distinctive backlit decorative strip for the passenger side of the
instrument panel. Stylised in a Union Jack motif, the colour of the
background lighting for the decorative strip matches that of the
vehicle’s ambient lighting selected by the driver as part of the MINI
Excitement Package. This option also enhances other area of the cabin,
adding a distinctive high gloss black appearance to the door inners
and centre console.

Maximum individualisation: MINI Yours Customised.

The MINI Yours Customised program raises brand individualisation to a
whole new level. It includes new products whose design can be created
by customers themselves, which are then produced precisely according
to their individual specifications.

The MINI Yours Customised range includes side scuttles, decorative
strips for the interior on the passenger side, LED door sill finishers
and LED door projectors.

MINI Yours Customised products can be selected, designed and ordered
through a specially created online shop launching later in 2018. Here
customers can choose between various colours, patterns, surface
structures and icons, as well as contributing their own texts and
adding a touch of personal style to the design. This creative
interaction between manufacturer and customer enables MINI drivers to
turn their vehicle into a unique expression of their own personality.

The individualised products are manufactured using innovative
production techniques, including 3D printing and laser engraving.

Drive: increased driving fun and reduced weight.

Revisions to engines and powertrain have been made to further enhance
driving fun. Development has been applied across the board, including
the basic engine, MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology, engine electronics,
oil supply, intake air ducting, the cooling system and the exhaust system.

One very clever feature of the new MINI engines is the use of
carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) on the engine covers, which not
only contributes to further weight reduction, but also takes
advantage of using recycled material generated during the production
of BMW’s ‘i’ range of electric vehicles.

The 3-cylinder petrol engine in the MINI One has seen an increase in
capacity to 1.5 litres, increasing maximum torque by 10 Nm, taking it
to 190 Nm.

New: 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch with
electronic selector lever.

All new MINIs come with a precise six-speed manual gearbox as
standard, but now 3-Door Hatch, 5-Door Hatch and Convertible models
are now also available with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with
double clutch as an option.

The transmission is offered on MINI One, MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S
and MINI Cooper D engine variants, and is characterised by very fast
gearshifts, enabling sporty acceleration and an impressive spread of torque.

The transmission comes with an all-new electronic selector lever,
while on the MINI Cooper S the automatic option includes shift paddles
at the steering wheel for a level of manual intervention.

All Steptronic transmissions allow the car to coast in MID and GREEN
mode and incorporate the latest generation of auto start/stop functions.

Using the satellite navigation data and the car’s inbuilt camera
systems, the stop/start can be intelligently controlled to identify
situations in which it is better not to switch off the engine: for
example when stopping briefly before making a turn or entering a
roundabout, or if the traffic ahead has started moving again.

There are five engine variants for UK customers to choose from for

New steering wheel with multifunction buttons and radio with
6.5-inch colour screen as standard.

The newly designed three-spoke steering wheel in the MINI range now
features multifunction buttons. On the left-hand control panel it is
possible to activate the Speed Limit Device to set a maximum speed,
while the audio and communication controls are on the right-hand side.
A sports leather steering wheel, a MINI Yours sports leather steering
wheel and a John Cooper Works leather steering wheel are all available
as options.

The standard trim also includes an audio system with 6.5-inch colour
screen in the central instrument panel and mobile phone integration
via Bluetooth.

New options: Refreshed Pepper and Chili packs now include rear
PDC and MINI Logo projection as standard.

For 2018, MINI has introduced new options and enhanced the equipment
offered in the popular Pepper and Chili packs.

Pepper Pack adds extra content including 15-inch light alloy wheels,
MINI Excitement Pack, leather steering wheel, rain sensor with
automatic headlight activation and automatic air conditioning. A new
addition to the Pepper Pack in 2018 is rear park distance control
(PDC) ensuring that the MINI vehicles are easier than ever to park in
and around town.

Chili Pack builds on the contents of the Pepper Pack, adding extras
features including 17-inch light alloy wheels, cloth and leather
upholstery, a sport steering wheel and a sport button to further
enhance the driving experience.

The MINI Excitement Package, which is included in the Pepper and
Chili packs for UK customers, now includes MINI logo projection on the
driver's side. When the vehicle door is opened and closed, the new
MINI logo is projected onto the ground in front of the door from a
light source in the exterior mirror and can be seen there for 20
seconds, or permanently if the door is left open.

Infotainment and Navigation: 6.5-inch full colour display as
standard and debut of new Navigation Plus Pack with wireless charging.

As standard, all vehicles will have a 6.5-inch full colour display
and standard rotary controller. Customers can choose to upgrade this
screen to include optional MINI Navigation with a touchscreen display
and Apple CarPlay functionality.

MINI has simplified the range of additional infotainment packs for UK
customers in 2018, with one new infotainment package now offered. The
new Navigation Plus package contains a raft of innovative optional
equipment, including MINI’s new 8.8-inch touchscreen display, wireless
charging, new MINI Connected Services including Real Time Traffic
Information, new Natural Language Understanding functionality, MINI
Concierge Service, online services and Apple CarPlay.

The new wireless charging feature, available as an option or as part
of the Navigation Plus package, is facilitated via a storage
compartment in the centre armrest which will automatically and
wirelessly charge mobile phones which support this capability. This
option also includes a second USB socket in the front section of the
centre console.

MINI Connected: a range of digital services that is unique
within the segment.

MINI offers class-leading premium digital services, many of which are
unique in the small car segment.

New features in the leading MINI Connected package include Real Time
Traffic Information and automatic navigation map update via mobile
phone connection, a personal Concierge Service and a vehicle internet
portal MINI Online, with news, weather and fuel price
updates. Another option is Apple CarPlay compatibility.

MINI Connected enables MINI drivers to integrate their vehicle and
travel plans seamlessly into their day-to-day digital routine.
Meanwhile, the MINI Connected App provides connectivity with digital
touchpoints such as a smartphone or smart watch. For example, MINI
Connected can draw on calendar entries and contact data entered in a
smartphone to plan routes and determine the ideal time to set off
based on real time traffic data.

The Send to Car function enables planned routes to be sent to the
MINI navigation system, while Remote Services allow the driver not
just to display vehicle location, fuel level and other vehicle status
details on their smartphone, but also activate the headlight flasher,
horn, ventilation and door lock/unlock function.

Intelligent networking is standard across the MINI range, via a 4G
SIM card integrated into the vehicle. This enables the use of MINI
Teleservices and the Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic
detection of vehicle location and accident severity.

Another new 2018 option for Hatch and Convertible models is MINI Find
Mate. This option consist of tags with a Bluetooth tracking function
that can be attached to frequently used objects and travel items such
as bags, cases, key rings and rucksacks. Their position can not only
be displayed on the car’s on-board computer but also in your MINI
Connected App on a smartphone, preventing personal items getting lost
or left behind.

which were revealed at Detroit at the start of the year, details of
the M4 Convertible are now released, the fifth-generation
high-performance open-top car of its kind from the company’s M
division.

Powered by the same 431hp in-line six-cylinder engine as the M3
Saloon and M4 Coupé, the Convertible offers the option of a six-speed
manual or seven-speed M Double Clutch transmission. The M4 Convertible
exhibits all the hallmarks of a car created by BMW’s high-performance
specialists – lightweight engineering, carefully honed aerodynamics,
advanced race-derived chassis tuning and electronic driver assistance
technologies and a sporty elegant profile, open or closed.

The heart of the M4 Convertible: a high-performance TwinPower
Turbo engine
The BMW M4 Convertible derives its firepower from a high-revving
six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine which benefits from technologies
developed on the race track. This 2,979cc in-line six-cylinder
powerhouse, developed by BMW M, features two mono-scroll
turbochargers, high-precision direct injection, VALVETRONIC fully
variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control. This
technical prowess allows the M4 Convertible to switch seamlessly from
an undemanding everyday road car to one which feels totally at home on
the race track.

Huge reserves of torque peaking at 550Nm are available from just
1,850rpm – exactly the point at which maximum power of 431hp is
attained. This is then maintained until 7,300rpm. Maximum engine
revolutions are 7,600rpm. All of this means the M4 Convertible
delivers a seemingly never-ending surge from little more than engine
tickover to the electronically restricted top speed of 155mph. The
zero to 62mph sprint is achieved in 4.6 seconds with the six-speed
manual gearbox, or 4.4 seconds with the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission.

Such impressive performance calls for advanced, race-derived
technologies, including special cooling systems. An indirect
intercooler maximises charge pressure and engine output, while the
main radiator is supplemented by other coolers located in the sides of
the engine bay for the high and low-temperature water circuits as well
as for the engine and transmission oil (with the M DCT gearbox). An
additional electric coolant pump helps to cool the turbocharger
bearing mounts when the car comes to rest.

The lightweight magnesium sump has a special cover to minimise the
movement of oil during high-G cornering, and an additional pump and
sophisticated oil return system maintain stable oil circulation under
hard acceleration and braking.

The iconic quad exhaust system contains electronically controlled
flaps which minimise back-pressure and ensure that the M4 Convertible
has an unmistakable BMW M sound.

The £2,645 optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission
effectively combines two gearboxes, each with its own clutch. Shifts
are therefore completed with no interference to the power delivery,
enhancing both performance and efficiency. Gear shifting can be fully
automatic or via the selector lever or steering column-mounted
paddles. Drivelogic allows the driver to choose more sporting or more
comfort-oriented shifting programmes while in automatic mode, and the
seven-speed M DCT transmission also incorporates Launch Control to
ensure the fastest-possible acceleration from standstill.

Lightweight engineering aids performance, agility and efficiency
BMW’s M cars do not achieve their exceptional performance simply
through brute power. Advanced weight-saving technologies and carefully
honed aerodynamics also play a major part while assisting agility and efficiency.

The M4 Convertible is around 60kg lighter than the outgoing M3
Convertible, despite being more lavishly equipped. A low kerb weight
of 1,750kg, has been achieved through extensive use of aluminium for
the bonnet, front wings and many of the chassis components, while
carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is used for the propeller shaft
and strut brace in the engine compartment. CFRP is light but extremely
strong: the single-piece propeller shaft is 40 percent lighter than
the steel one in the M3 Convertible, reducing rotating masses and
improving powertrain response. The engine compartment strut brace
weighs just 1.5kg, yet aids more superior body control than with an
aluminium strut.

The M4 Convertible has a number of special aerodynamic measures to
achieve the downforce required of a high-performance car while adding
to the comfort of its four occupants and overall efficiency during
everyday road use. The dynamically shaped front apron, a smooth
underbody and special airflow channelling through the front end all
help to counter lift at speed. Meanwhile, the Aero Curtains and M side
gills with integral Air Breathers behind the front wheels are
instrumental in reducing drag. Even the twin-stalk door mirrors help
the M4 Convertible cut through the air better.

As a result, the M4 Convertible’s high performance is balanced by its
low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In manual form the new model
is capable of 31mpg with CO2 emissions of 213g/km, while with the
quick-shifting seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission these improve
to 32.5mpg and 203g/km CO2.

Like all BMWs, the M4 Convertible is equipped with a suite of
EfficientDynamics fuel-saving technologies, including Auto Start-Stop,
Optimum Shift Indicator (in manual mode only with the M DCT
transmission), Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand operation of
ancillary units, a map-controlled oil pump and a final drive with
optimised warm-up behaviour.

Sports-tuned chassis and electronic driver assistance systems
The race-derived know-how of BMW’s M division also comes to the
fore in the tuning of the chassis and its electronic driver assistance
features. The result is a car which feels equally at home on road and track.

It begins with the M-specific set-up of the double-joint spring strut
suspension at the front and the aluminium five-link axle at the rear.
A variable electro-mechanical rack and pinion steering system delivers
the seemingly impossible combination of maximum steering precision,
response, assistance and fuel efficiency. The integrated M Servotronic
system moderates the degree of assistance according to speed, and the
driver is able to select COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes at the touch
of a button for even greater personalisation. The M4 Convertible is
fitted as standard with BMW M Compound brakes for maximum stopping
power, fade resistance and low weight.

The mechanical elements of the chassis are supported by advanced
driver assistance systems tuned specifically for the M4 Convertible. A
standard feature is the Active M Differential to enhance traction and
directional stability, particularly when accelerating hard out of
corners. An electronically controlled multi-plate limited slip
differential linked to the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system
assesses accelerator position, wheel rotational speed and car yaw rate
to decide how much rear axle lock, up to 100 percent, to introduce.

The DSC system includes anti-lock brakes (ABS) and M Dynamic Mode.
Other standard stability support features include Cornering Brake
Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake drying and
Hill-start Assistant. In the UK the M4 Convertible will also be fitted
as standard with Adaptive M suspension with COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes.

An added sense of style with greater space and refinement
The dynamic lines of the M4 Convertible instantly mark it out as
the high-performance flagship of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible
range, while occupants are now treated to greater interior and luggage
space and superior refinement.

The wheelbase and width have been increased compared with the M3
Convertible, without disturbing the balanced proportions of a long
bonnet, short overhangs and set-back glasshouse – all BMW essentials.
Stand-out M design touches include a powerdome in the bonnet, a
sculpted front apron with three air intakes and a black double-slat
kidney grille. Standard 19-inch M double-spoke light alloy wheels in
the UK, flared front and rear wheel arches, M side gills and Air
Breathers behind the front wheels and polished slanting quad exhaust
tailpipes, make the BMW M4 Convertible a striking M car.

The three-part metal roof now provides significantly improved noise
insulation – up to 2dB quieter – as a result of a new headlining which
also contributes towards higher levels of winter warmth and comfort.
The M4 Convertible switches from a stylish coupé, unencumbered by
B-pillars, to an elegant convertible free of obstructive roll-over
protection or aerials in 20 seconds. Making all-weather top-down
driving a greater pleasure than ever, a wider wind deflector and new
three-stage neck-warming Air Collar in the front seats are also available.

The roll-over hoops for the two rear seats are now neatly hidden
behind the headrests. In the event of a sudden shower the roof can be
raised at speeds of up to 8mph. An innovative new Loading-aid raises
the folded roof when it is stowed in the boot to give owners access to
their belongings in just 6 seconds. The luggage capacity has also
increased to 370litres when the roof is closed and 220litres when it
is stowed.

The interior features a number of M division highlights, led by
electrically-adjustable, heated and contoured leather M seats with
recessed head restraints and integrated seatbelt. The front head
restraints incorporate an illuminated BMW M logo. Interior highlights
also include an M steering wheel, chrome trim and three-colour M
stitching. The individual rear seats offer a combination of comfort
and lateral support befitting the car-for-all-conditions character of
the M4 Convertible.

The BMW M4 Convertible in the UK
The BMW M4 Convertible will be offered with an extensive
specification in the UK. Standard equipment, in addition to Adaptive M
suspension and 19-inch M light alloy wheels, will include the BMW
Professional media package, upgraded Bluetooth and USB, front and rear
Park Distance Control, Folding exterior mirrors and heated front
seats. The BMW M4 Convertible goes on sale in the UK on 6 September
2014, priced at £60,745 OTR.
