With its inimitable combination of exclusivity, dynamic excellence,
luxuriant spaciousness and versatility, the BMW X7 has quickly
developed into the most successful BMW model in the luxury class. And
now the unique character profile of the brand’s largest Sports
Activity Vehicle (SAV) has been honed to significant effect thanks to
extensive design refinements – most notably a visually impactful front
end – plus a new-look M Sport package, light-alloy wheels measuring up
to 23 inches (an ex-factory first for BMW) and the latest-generation
iDrive control/operation system including BMW Curved Display and BMW
Operating System 8. The new BMW X7 also comes with a further expanded
range of standard equipment, additional driver assistance systems and
the latest 48V mild hybrid technology for the two engine variants offered.

The new BMW X7 is a central pillar in the ongoing product offensive
at the most exclusive reaches of the premium carmaker’s model line-up.
The new X7 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, the
competence centre for BMW X models in the US state of South Carolina.
The worldwide market launch for the new BMW X7 will get underway in
August 2022. The new BMW X7 will be available in South Africa
from the final quarter of 2022.

Exterior design: exclusive looks, progressive style.
Fuelled by its highly versatile skillset, the
largest BMW X model convinces with both on-the-road elegance and
off-road ability. Extensive design modifications accentuate above all
the visual exclusivity of the largest BMW X model even more vividly.
Indeed, its design underscores more clearly than ever the status of
the new BMW X7 as one of the brand’s flagship models. The newly
structured front end picks up on signature BMW design cues such as the
twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. In their newly interpreted
form, these features emphasise the car’s upright stance and reinforce
its road presence.

Split headlight units are making their debut in the new BMW X7. The
horizontal LED light elements set higher up in the front end house the
position light, daytime driving lights and turn signal indicators. The
LED units located below them for the low-beam and high-beam headlights
give the impression of retreating into the background with their dark
housing and deeply embedded position in the front apron, and only come
to the fore when activated. The new adaptive matrix LED headlights
with non-dazzling high beam and adaptive light distribution now also
provide the functionality of front fog lights with their automatic bad
weather light.

Discreet cascade lighting for the two BMW kidney grille elements
brings a richly extravagant feeling to the front end of the new BMW
X7, both when stationary and on the move. The “Iconic Glow” BMW kidney
grille is a standard feature of the range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive
(fuel consumption combined: 13.3 – 12.2 l/100 km; CO2
emissions: 303 – 278 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures in the NEDC
cycle: –) and will be offered as standard for the other model variant.

At the rear end, the progressive style of the extremely slim light
units, which now have three-dimensional sculpting, is accentuated. The
elegant chrome bar connecting the rear light units on the new BMW X7
is enclosed within an exquisite glass cover.

The optional, newly designed M Sport package shines an even brighter
spotlight on the dynamic driving properties of the BMW X7. And
M-specific design features for the exterior and interior also clearly
emphasise the performance attributes of the BMW X7 M60i xDrive. The M
Marina Bay Blue metallic paint finish can be ordered exclusively for
the BMW M model. Another new addition to the range of exterior colours
is Sparkling Copper Grey metallic. 20-inch light-alloy wheels are
fitted as standard on the new BMW X7. The range-topping model and cars
specified with the M Sport package come with 21-inch M light-alloy
wheels. Optional 23-inch light-alloy wheels are available ex-factory
for the first time for a BMW model.

Luxuriant spaciousness, extended standard equipment.
The generous feeling of space on board the new BMW
X7 can be enjoyed across three rows of seats. The second row
accommodates three passengers as standard and offers two particularly
comfortable individual seats as an option. Heated comfort seats are
provided as standard for the driver and front passenger.

Together, the newly designed instrument panel – with its slim air
vents and an ambient light bar included as standard in its lower
section – and the BMW Curved Display bring a modern style shaped by
progressive digitalisation to the cockpit. The innovative light bar
complements the likewise standard ambient light. Its effective
backlighting – with the help of LED units and a graphic including “X7”
lettering (or the M logo in the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive) – is an
integral element of the situation-based light effects and enhances the
aura of exclusivity inside the cabin. The gear selector lever is also
given a new and cutting-edge design.

The further expanded range of standard equipment for the new BMW X7
goes to new lengths in enhancing the comfort of those on board and
maximising their wellbeing. As well as the four-zone automatic climate
control, panoramic glass sunroof and Harman Kardon sound, it now also
includes the comfort seats for the driver and front passenger, a Sport
leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles and a new tray for
wirelessly charging compatible mobile phones. Highlights of the
options list include the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof
(illuminated by LED units), the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround
Sound System and the newly designed Travel & Comfort System.
Active seat ventilation and a massage function are also offered for
the driver and front passenger. If the new Comfort Package is
specified, the seats in the second and third rows can also be heated,
as can the steering wheel and the armrests for the driver and front passenger.

Newly developed engines with the latest 48V mild hybrid technology.
The engine range is headed by a new 4.4-litre petrol
V8 for the range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive, which is derived from the
engines powering the high-performance cars coming out of BMW M GmbH. M
TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold imbue the
390 kW unit with peak torque of 750 Nm with impressively assured power development.

Detailed upgrades to the six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the
new BMW X7 xDrive40d have also yielded improvements to its fuel
economy and emissions (fuel consumption combined: 8.7 – 7.6 l/100 km;
CO2 emissions: 230 – 200 g/km in the WLTP cycle; figures in
the NEDC cycle: –). The maximum output of its overall drive system is
259 kW. The nominal torque of the diesel engine is 700 Nm, which can
be increased to as much as 720 Nm with the input of the mild hybrid system.

The most important shared feature of the two engines is the
integration of new-generation 48V mild hybrid technology. In its
latest incarnation, this form of electrification consists of a
crankshaft-mounted starter generator integrated into the transmission
and contributes an extra 9 kW of output and an extra 20 Nm of torque.
All of the engines partner with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport
transmission including shift paddles on the steering wheel and a
Sprint function. Engine power is channelled to the road – or
unsurfaced terrain, if required – via the intelligent all-wheel-drive
system BMW xDrive.

Sophisticated chassis technology optimises agility and comfort.
The adaptive two-axle air suspension teams up as
standard with electronically controlled dampers to deliver signature
BMW dynamic prowess combined with excellent comfort on long journeys.
Standard specification for the new BMW X7 M60i xDrive also includes
Integral Active Steering and the Executive Drive system with active
roll stabilisation. Both are available as options for the six-cylinder
models, as is the xOffroad package.

All the chassis systems have been retuned for the new BMW X7 to
enable it to span the widest possible spectrum between sporty handling
and driving comfort. Standard specification for the BMW X7 M60i xDrive
also includes 21-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M Sport differential
at the rear. The six-cylinder models come as standard with 20-inch
light-alloy wheels. And the new BMW X7 is the brand’s first ever model
to be offered with the option of factory-fitted 23-inch light-alloy wheels.

Expanded selection of driver assistance systems.
Comfort and safety in the new BMW X7 are further
enhanced by a significantly expanded selection of automated driving
and parking systems. New features include the extended range of
functions offered by the front-collision warning system, which now
also reduces the danger of a collision with cyclists, pedestrians or
oncoming vehicles when turning off. If the optional Active Cruise
Control with Stop&Go function is specified, the automatic Speed
Limit Assist, route monitoring and traffic light recognition features
will be included too. Also new is the exit warning function, which
alerts occupants to a risk of collision when opening the door.

The standard Parking Assistant also includes the Reversing Assist
Camera and Reversing Assistant. On cars with the optional Parking
Assistant Professional specified, the Reversing Assistant can now take
over the job of steering the car for a distance of up to 200 metres.
And the new Trailer Assistant makes it easier to execute reversing
manoeuvres when towing a trailer. The new Manoeuvre Assistant can
store manoeuvres covering a distance of up to 200 metres each. When
the vehicle next arrives at a memorised starting point, the Manoeuvre
Assistant will be able to carry out all the tasks required to complete
the manoeuvre, controlling the accelerator, brakes and steering as
well as changing gear to move forward or reverse. While the automated
manoeuvre is being performed, the driver can focus on monitoring the
vehicle’s surroundings.

Latest-generation BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display.
The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus in the new BMW X7
includes the latest edition of the BMW iDrive control/operation
system. It is based on BMW Operating System 8 and comprises the BMW
Curved Display, which is formed by a 12.3-inch information display and
a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. With the new
display grouping in place and the continually expanding skillset of
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the new BMW iDrive is geared
squarely towards touch operation and gesture control as well as
dialogue using natural language.

The cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps can be specified as an
option with Augmented View on the control display. The optional BMW
Digital Key Plus enables customers to lock and unlock their new BMW X7
with their Apple iPhone via security-enhanced ultra-wideband (UWB)
radio technology.

Press Contact: Hailey Philander
Tel: +27-71-666-2070
E-mail: hailey.philander@bmw.co.za

Press Kit,G07,X7,Product,BMW

Munich. For the third time in a row, BMW M GmbH ended
the financial year as the global market leader in the performance and
high-performance car segment. Indeed, the company posted record sales
once again in 2021. A total of 163,542 BMW M cars were delivered to
customers worldwide last year, a 13 percent increase on 2020.

This growth was spread equally between the High-Performance sports
cars and Performance cars made by BMW M GmbH, with both product
categories raising their sales figures to a new level. “This success
is the perfect start to our anniversary year,” says Franciscus van
Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “M is in a stronger position than ever as it
celebrates its 50th birthday.”

New BMW M3 and new BMW M4 enjoy immediate success.

The biggest drivers of growth among the High-Performance sports cars
were the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 models introduced in spring 2021.
Fuelled by a vehicle concept focused squarely on emotionally charged
dynamism and unprecedented diversity in the model range, the new BMW
M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.0 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.3
mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 231 – 227 g/km as per
WLTP), new BMW M4 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100
km [28.0 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined:
230 – 226 g/km as per WLTP) and new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel
consumption combined: 10.2 l/100 km [27.7 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 233 – 231 g/km as per WLTP) got off to an
extremely successful start. The latest model generation is the first
to offer customers two output levels topping out at 375 kW, the M
xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of either a six-speed
manual gearbox or the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

“The response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been
simply overwhelming,” reports Timo Resch, Vice President Customer,
Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “We can therefore expect demand for
these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022.”

Also making a powerful contribution to the latest rise in
High-Performance model sales at BMW M GmbH were the BMW X5 M
Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.6 – 13.3 l/100 km [20.8
– 21,2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 308 – 303 g/km as
per WLTP) and BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined:
13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km [21.1 – 21.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions
combined: 305 – 299 g/km as per WLTP). Following the successful market
launch of the latest model generation the previous year, the
charismatic High-Performance sports cars in the Sports Activity
Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segment – both powered by a 460 kW
V8 engine – increased their sales figures once again in 2021.

Alluring and in demand: the BMW M models in the BMW 4 Series range.

The dynamic excellence, agility and precision for which M is renowned
also enabled the brand’s Performance models to delight and excite a
wide range of customers over the past year. Credit for the latest
boost to sales goes above all to the M models based on the new BMW 4
Series. Particularly popular were the variants of the new BMW 4 Series
Coupé, whose line-up includes the BMW M440i Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 8.1 – 7.4 l/100 km [34.8 – 38.2 mpg imp].

The latest BMW X models within the ranks of M’s Performance cars also
proved extremely desirable. Indeed, the BMW X3 M40i powered by a
six-cylinder in-line engine with 285 kW and the BMW X7 M50i (fuel
consumption combined: 12.8 – 12.3 l/100 km [22.1 – 23.0 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 292 – 280 g/km as per WLTP) with
its 390 kW V8 unit both posted an increase in new registrations.

Looking ahead to an anniversary year brimming with highlights.

BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive in this anniversary
year with the addition of new High-Performance and Performance models.
Highlights include the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) and the arrival later
in the year of the first BMW M3 Touring and an exclusive
special-edition model based on the new BMW M4 Coupé.

In addition, the BMW Group subsidiary – which was founded as BMW
Motorsport GmbH in May 1972 and enjoys the status of an independent
manufacturer – will also drive the transformation to electric
mobility. Following in the tyre tracks of the BMW i4 M50 (electric
power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km as per WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km) in the first half of 2022
will be the likewise fully electric BMW iX M60 (projected electric
power consumption combined: 24.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km as per WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The most powerful BMW M model ever made points the way to the
future of the brand.

The anniversary year will be crowned by the start of production of
the BMW XM. The most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series
production is also the brand’s first High-Performance model to employ
a plug-in hybrid drive system. Its newly developed M Hybrid technology
brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to
develop maximum output of 550 kW and peak torque of 1,000 Nm. The
design of the BMW XM majors on presence and extrovert appeal and in so
doing sends out a clear statement in the luxury segment.

“Our first standalone model since the legendary BMW M1 represents a
complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says van
Meel. “The BMW XM blends expressive design and progressive interior
luxury with an incomparable driving experience that serves up both
sublime performance and the ability to glide along in near silence in
all-electric mode. In so doing, it provides an inimitable expression
of poise and assurance, and at the same time points the way to the
future of our brand.”

Press Contact: Hailey Philander
Tel: +27-71-666-2070
E-mail: hailey.philander@bmw.co.za

Press Release,X3,X5 M,X6 M,M3,BMW i,M4,4 Series,Sales & Finance,G01,G07,X7,M240,F97,G26,iX,X3 M,i4 M50,F95,F96,i20,G80,Product,BMW,BMW M

Munich/Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Visitors to this
year’s BMW Motorrad Days can expect to see, in addition to many bike
highlights, a true one-off – the BMW X7 Pick-up. A unique conversion
performed by BMW Group vocational trainees in cooperation with the
Concept Vehicle Construction and Model Technology divisions at the
BMW Munich plant. The vehicle is based on the BMW X7, the most
luxurious and latest member of the BMW X family. The one-off combines
the drive technology of the 250 kW/340 hp BMW X7 xDrive40i (fuel
consumption combined: 9.0 – 8.7 l/100 km [31.4 – 32.5 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 205 – 198 g/km) with the innovative vehicle
concept of a five-seater luxury pick-up.
A handcrafted loading
area boasting a sophisticated fine-polished wood finish, a
height-adjustable two-level air suspension and numerous high-class
equipment details make this BMW X7 Pick-up an ideal companion for the
diverse day-to-day uses and more. A BMW F 850 GS – a powerful
motorcycle from the adventure segment – on the loading area completes
the conversion. Together they are able to reach even the remotest
corners of the world.

"I am pleased about the synergies between BMW Group
Vocational Training, Concept Vehicle Construction and Model
Technology, allowing these young talents to prove their abilities with
such an extraordinary project," concludes Milagros Caiña-Andree,
Member of the Board for Human Resources of the BMW AG.

High-class materials and state-of-the-art production methods
meet craftsmanship.
Behind the passenger cabin
providing five persons with a luxury ambience, the BMW X7 Pick-up
offers a generous loading area. The length of the loading space varies
from 140 cm (closed) to 200 cm (open). Thanks to the intelligent use
of CFRP on roof components, rear doors and the rear lid, it was
possible to further reduce weight by 200 kg vs. the production model,
despite a 10 cm longer body. In interplay with the high-quality,
handcrafted teakwood cladding of the loading area upgrade and the
parapet elements, handgrips and trim strips made from SLS 3D pressure
parts, it becomes clear just how much innovative strength, competence
and technical precision the trainees already display. The combination
of honey-coloured teakwood and the BMW Individual colour Tanzanite
Blue metallic – an exclusive navy blue finish that develops extra
depth when exposed to sunlight – was inspired by yachting sports and
creates a sophisticated look.

From a concept to a vehicle in show car quality in just ten
months.
In just ten months, the twelve trainees from the
occupational sectors body and vehicle mechanics (m/f/x), vehicle
mechatronics (m/f/x) and technical model construction (m/f/x) turned a
concept into a fully functional, road-legal automobile in show car
quality. In keeping with the BMW brand’s sustainability strategy, a
vehicle returned from testing formed the cost-efficient basis of the
concept, which the trainees consequently saved from being scrapped.
The trainees were free to decide on conception and implementation, but
had to forgo the additional expert assistance normally provided in
concept car construction. The coherent final result gives the trainees
even more reason to be proud of their practical training project.
Their dream: to go for a spin in the BMW X7 Pick-up after its premiere
or even take it for a trip to the mountains.

The BMW X7 Pick-up and the BMW F 850 GS – unbeatable as a
duo.
On the loading area of the converted vehicle stands
a BMW F 850 GS, which is ideally suited to the BMW Motorrad Days. With
a combination of touring and long-distance capability, sporty dynamics
and supreme off-road qualities, the BMW F 850 GS perfectly complements
the qualities of the BMW X7 Pick-up. However, in everyday life, the
BMW X7 pick-up and the BMW F 850 GS are faithful companions: thanks
to their excellent driving characteristics both on paved and unpaved
roads, the journey is the destination.
The BMW X7 Pick-up is a
one-off from BMW Group Vocational Training at the Munich location.
Series implementation is not planned. Special projects such as this
serve during training to convey and deploy the required capabilities
in practice. Clear training contents with an occupational interest in
each profession exist in such projects. The BMW Group currently trains
almost 5,000 persons in nine countries worldwide.

Press Contact: Hailey Philander
Tel: +27-71-666-2070
E-mail: hailey.philander@bmw.co.za

Press Release,Human Resources,BMW Motorrad,Rider Training, Travel, Events,G07,X7,F Series,F 750 GS / F 850 GS,Product,BMW

luxury. The BMW X7 blends lavish presence, exclusivity and
spaciousness with the versatile and agile driving properties customers
would expect from a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). The latest and
largest model in the BMW X line-up uses its outstanding powertrain and
chassis technology, plus generous levels of space in each of its three
rows of seats, a luxurious ambience and advanced equipment features,
to deliver an unparalleled driving and interior experience. BMW’s new
design language brings the modern elegance characteristic of the
brand’s luxury-segment models to the exterior of the BMW X7, and adds
visual poise, assurance and an overriding sense of authority.

The new BMW X7 represents the next stage in the premium carmaker’s
ongoing model offensive in the luxury segment. Its increased presence
in the class and the systematic expansion of the BMW X model portfolio
are among the key areas the BMW Group has identified – as part of its
NUMBER ONE > NEXT strategy – to ensure sustained growth in the
world’s car markets in the future.

The new BMW X7 is built at BMW Plant Spartanburg in the US state of
South Carolina. This centre of expertise for BMW X models also handles
production of the BMW X3, BMW X4, BMW X5 and BMW X6.

A new measure of authority, luxury and modernity.

The expansive exterior dimensions of the new BMW X7 take luxury to a
new level. At 5,151 millimetres in length, 2,000 millimetres wide and
1,805 millimetres tall, and with a wheelbase of 3,105 millimetres, the
X7 displays harmonious proportions and establishes itself very clearly
as the new head of the BMW X model family. The high-impact presence of
the new BMW X7 is underscored by its upright front end, while the
chrome elements that ring the car and accentuate its unique character
also influence its distinctive appearance. A new use of forms,
dominated by clearly structured surfaces and precise lines, lends the
BMW X7 its modern and progressive aura.

The largest kidney grille ever designed for one of the brand’s models
bestrides the front end of the new BMW X7. Together with the slim twin
headlights extending up to the grille, it emphasises the width of the
car and creates an inimitable presence. The new BMW X7 comes as
standard with LED headlights, while BMW Laserlight with Adaptive LED
Headlights can be specified as an option. This system employs a BMW
Laserlight spotlight with Selective Beam to optimise the high beam
function, and as a result the range of the non-dazzling high beam has
been increased to a maximum 600 metres. Blue x-shaped elements, which
split up the hexagonal light sources inside the familiar BMW twin
headlights, make a distinctive visual statement. On cars with standard
specification, the wide lower air intake is given extra structure by a
horizontal chrome bar. The Design Pure Excellence equipment line
brings a three-dimensional version of the bar that turns upwards at
its outer edges. Integrated discreetly into front apron on either side
of the aluminium underguard are slim LED front foglamps. Another
model-specific feature is the particularly large BMW roundel on the bonnet.

When viewed from the side, the large windows and long, dynamically
flowing roofline of the new BMW X7 hint at a spacious interior bathed
in light. The rear doors are longer than the front doors, emphasising
the spaciousness of the SAV’s rear compartment and making it even
easier to get in and out. Clearly structured surfaces and the
eye-catching character line rising up to the rear end are hallmarks of
the brand’s new design language. The versatile functionality of the
new BMW X7 is highlighted by its ample ground clearance and optional
roof rails. Among the car’s elegance- and exclusivity-enhancing
features are chrome trim strips around the door sills – which extend
up to the Air Breathers and are continued in the rear apron – and the
rounded contouring of the fully body-coloured wheel arches, which
house light-alloy wheels in formats up to 22 inches.

The sizeable dimensions of the new BMW X7 are also expressed at the
rear end, which is broken up by horizontal lines and bordered by
vertical separating edges. The slim LED rear lights provide a clear
segmentation of the rear. Bridging the space between the two units is
a chrome bar – a design cue only previously encountered at the rear of
the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan. The classy exhaust tailpipe
embellishers and the underguard positioned between them on Design Pure
Excellence cars provide further touches of exclusiveness.

The new BMW X7 is fitted as standard with 21-inch light-alloy wheels.
The selection of light-alloy wheels available on the options list
includes 22-inch variants.

Design Pure Excellence, M Sport package and exclusive options
from BMW Individual.

The Design Pure Excellence equipment line, the M Sport package and
exclusive BMW Individual options offer scope for customers to tailor
the standard specification of their new BMW X7 to their personal
style. With grille bars in Aluminium matt and an array of accents in
High-gloss Chrome, plus 21-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design,
Design Pure Excellence underlines the rich elegance of the new SAV
model. The M Sport package showcases the dynamic potential of the new
X7 with extra-large air intakes, 21-inch light-alloy wheels in
M twin-spoke design and a distinctive look for the front apron, rear
apron and side skirts. Its sporting aura is accentuated by additional
design elements in High-gloss Black or Black Chrome, the latter a
shade reserved for BMW’s luxury-class models. Trim elements in
High-gloss Chrome can be specified as an option. And classy options
from BMW Individual are also available from the launch of the X7.
Among the items lending the car’s exterior design an even more
rarefied air of exclusivity, meanwhile, are the BMW Individual paint
finish Sunstone metallic and 22-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels.

Munich. The two new top models in the BMW X family
exude a supreme presence with a corresponding performance. Their
concentrated power is generated by the new 8-cylinder petrol engine –
based on BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with a maximum output of 390
kW – built into both the BMW X5 M50i (fuel consumption combined: 10,7
– 10,5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 243 – 238 g/km) and the BMW
X7 M50i (fuel consumption combined: 11,1 – 10,9 l/100 km; CO2
emissions combined: 252 – 248 g/km) models. More than ever before,
these new top-flight engines underline the sporty nature of the latest
generation of the original Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) – and the
first BMW X model in the luxury segment. Both models combine the V8
engine with the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system and a
model-specific suspension technology, developed with expertise from
BMW M GmbH.

Like the drive and suspension technology, the model-specific design
features of the new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7 M50i have passed
through a consistent design process that has resulted in an absolutely
breath-taking motoring experience. Moreover, the exclusive nature of
the new 8-cylinder models is reflected in the extremely high quality
of their standard equipment. The new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7
M50i will be produced from August 2019 at the BMW plant in Spartanburg
in the USA and will be available in South Africa from October 2019.

New V8 engine with outstanding power and characteristic sound.

The 4.4 litre drive unit of the new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7
M50i emphasise the characteristic features of the 8-cylinder engines
in terms of power development and torque to an outstanding degree. The
new V8 engine turns in a very impressive level of performance –
whether you prefer cruising calmly and confidently at low engine
speeds or pulling out all the performance stops and laying down some
sporty acceleration manoeuvres. Several components have been upgraded
since the previous engine version; these include the crankcase,
cylinder barrels, pistons, crankshaft and cylinder head – and above
all, the freshly updated BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The
turbochargers positioned between the cylinder banks in the V
compartment have been enlarged, while the direct petrol injection
performs at a new maximum pressure level of 350 bar. The technology
package also includes the newest versions of the fully variable
VALVETRONIC valve control and variable double VANOS camshaft control.

The new V8 engine responds with great sensitivity to every movement
of the accelerator pedal. The engine already generates its maximum
torque of 750 Nm at 1 800 rpm – and it remains available up to an
engine speed of 4 600 rpm. Accordingly, the power output is as
strident as you would expect it to be. The maximum value of 390 kW is
activated between 5 500 and 6 000 rpm. As a result, the new BMW X5
M50i is able to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The
new BMW X7 M50i completes its standard sprint in 4.7 seconds.

This supreme power development is accompanied by an impressive sound
progression that is generated by the standard M sport exhaust system.
Using the driving experience control, the driver can choose between an
extremely sporty or a more comfort-oriented mode. The sheer bandwidth
of the engine’s character then becomes all the more obvious. In the
SPORT and SPORT PLUS modes, not only is the characteristic curve of
the accelerator pedal configured for a dynamic driving style, but the
power development and remarkable sound characteristics of the V8
engine are too.

8-speed Steptronic sports transmission, BMW xDrive and M
sports differential for thrilling performance.

The performance features of both of these thoroughly sports-oriented
SAV models are supported by the rather specific nature of the power
transmission. The new V8 engine is combined as standard with an
8-speed Steptronic sports transmission, characterised by highly
dynamic gear shift properties. Shift paddles are mounted near the
steering wheel for manual control of the choice of gear. The Launch
Control function enables traction-optimised acceleration with maximum
dynamic performance from standing.

The latest version of the BMW xDrive system distributes the engine
torque between the front and rear wheels in a manner that enables it
to adapt quickly and precisely to the road conditions. The intelligent
all-wheel drive system increases the agility and supreme traction of
the new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7 M50i as much as it enhances the
driving stability in all weather and road conditions. These sporty
characteristics are also supported in highly dynamic driving
situations by the rear-wheel emphasis of the system’s design. In
addition, the standard equipment of the new BMW X5 M50i and the new
BMW X7 M50i also includes an M sports differential. The electronically
controlled differential lock in the rear bevel gears limits the
rotational speed balancing between the wheel on the innermost side of
a bend and that on the outermost side and enables highly dynamic
acceleration when exiting a bend. In addition, the M sports
differential, which is interconnected with the DSC (Dynamic Stability
Control), optimises traction and power transmission when driving on
loose terrain and when different road friction values exist between
the right and left rear wheels. This serves to prevent wheel spinning
arising due to insufficient grip, with the torque being redirected to
the other wheel.

Model-specific suspension technology for a superior drive.

The model-specific suspension of the new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW
X7 M50i has been painstakingly tuned to extract maximum potential from
the outstanding drive design based on the know-how of BMW M GmbH. Both
models employ a construction principle comprising a double-wishbone
front axle and a five-link rear axle combined with specific kinematics
and elastokinematics for the wheel suspension, independent suspension
and damping settings, and 21 inch M light alloy wheels complete with
mixed tyres. The standard equipment also includes electromechanical
steering with Servotronic function and an M sport brake system with
blue-coated brake calipers complete with M logo. Also available as
optional equipment are 22 inch light alloy wheels, again fitted with
mixed tyres.

The new BMW X5 M50i is equipped with Adaptive M suspension. One of
two sets of characteristics can be selected for the electronically
controlled dampers, which can be activated using the driving
experience switches, comprising COMFORT and SPORT modes. The new BMW
X7 M50i is fitted with adaptive dual axle air suspension, which is
also available optionally for the new BMW X5 M50i. In the SPORT
driving mode, as well as at speeds of over 138 km/h, this
automatically results in a reduced ride height of 20 millimetres.
However, the driver is also able to adjust the height of the body by
activating a button in the cockpit; two levels are available, raising
the height up to 40 millimetres above the standard setting; this is
useful when driving off-road, for example.

Optional integral active steering is available for both models, which
serves to further enhance the vehicle’s agility. It also results in
enhanced superiority when it comes to lane changing and
manoeuvrability in urban traffic, by co-steering the rear wheels
either in the same or in the opposite direction, depending on the
driving speed. A further increase in superiority and dynamics of the
drive characteristics is produced by the integral active steering, the
active electronic anti roll stabilizers, which ensures very fast and
precise balancing of lateral roll forces during dynamic cornering, by
means of electric swivel motors fitted to the front and rear axles.
Both are an integral part of the optional Adaptive M Suspension
Professional package for the new BMW X5 M50i and the optional
Executive Drive Pro equipment available for the new BMW X7 M50i.

Design and equipment: exclusive appearance with a luxurious atmosphere.

Model-specific designer features serve to emphasise the exclusive and
sporty nature of the new BMW X5 M50i and the new BMW X7 M50i the
moment you see it. The extra-large air inlets in the front apron are a
clear indication of the V8 engine’s cooling requirements. The unique
design of the side sills and rear apron, the BMW individual high-gloss
Shadow Line, and selected design elements in Cerium Grey similarly
serve to underline the outstanding status of the 8-cylinder models.

The interior of the two top models of the BMW X family features an M
leather steering wheel, a gear selector lever displaying the M logo,
Vernasca leather upholstery with contrast stitching and perforated
surfaces and interior strips in Aluminium Tetragon (BMW X5 M50i) or
Fineline Black precious wood finish with high-gloss metallic effect,
together ensuring a luxurious feel with a sporty touch. And as if that
wasn’t enough, the standard equipment also comprises illuminated entry
sills displaying the ’M50i’ logo, a headliner in Anthracite (BMW X5
M50i) or Alcantara Anthracite (BMW X7 M50i) and a Hi-Fi loudspeaker
system (BMW X5 M50i) or Harman Kardon surround sound system (BMW X7 M50i).

Munich. The Sports Activity Vehicle is heading for
the luxury segment. And on its way there it is undergoing a true
endurance test marathon. An equally extensive and diverse test
programme takes the camouflaged prototypes of the new BMW X7 across
challenging terrain all over the world. Earlier winter test drives on
snow and ice at the edge of the polar circle were followed by
long-distance endurance tests on desert and gravel tracks under the
South African sun. Hectic stop-and-go-traffic in the urban jungle
alternates with dynamic load tests on winding country roads and
highways. Under extreme challenges and a wide spectrum of weather and
road surface conditions the first luxury-segment BMW X model has
provided the ultimate proof of its supreme driving characteristics
within the framework of driving dynamics testing.

With its impressive appearance, exceptionally generous interior
space, sophisticated drive and suspension technology and exclusive
equipment features, the BMW X7 is the latest interpretation of
luxurious driving pleasure in the style of the Munich-based premium
brand. The combination of supreme off-road performance and superior
driving dynamics on the road so typical of a Sports Activity Vehicle
is entering a further vehicle segment. With the upcoming presentation
of the latest and also largest BMW X model at the end of 2018, BMW is
continuing its current product offensive in the luxury class with a
yet further fascinating vehicle concept.

The prototypes of the new BMW X7 were produced at the BMW Spartanburg
plant. The competence centre for BMW X models in the US Federal State
of South Carolina will also become the place of origin for the
production model. Despite conspicuous camouflaging, the preproduction
vehicles reveal the imposing dimensions as well as the both clear and
harmonious proportions of the BMW X7.

In the new BMW X7, luxury, diversity and sportiness combine to form a
unique entity. The current tests impressively demonstrate the driving
experience that can be enjoyed in the sophisticated ambience of the
vehicle’s interior even under adverse climatic conditions and on the
most varying terrain. At the Winter Test Centre in Arjeplog, Sweden,
during hot-climate tests, but also in everyday traffic situations
around the home town of Spartanburg, the prototypes of the new BMW X7
have already had ample opportunity to convince with contemporary
luxury and supreme diversity.

Press Contact: Edward Makwana
Tel: +27-12-522-2227
E-mail: edward.makwana@bmw.co.za

Press Release,G07,X7,Product,BMW

Munich / Spartanburg. Production of the first
pre-production models of the new BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle has
commenced at the BMW Group Spartanburg plant, USA. So the countdown
has started for the final twelve months leading up to the presentation
of the production car at the end of 2018. Prior to this, the vehicle
will undergo various tests under partially extreme conditions.

Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant: “We are proud to
produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This
is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet
a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of
five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four
corners of the globe.”

Camouflage wrap conceals final look.
At the plant, the
production of pre-series models serves to secure and optimise future
series production. Consequently, BMW X7 pre-production models already
use the same assembly line as the BMW X5 and BMW X6 production models.
An especially trained team realises the series production process for
new vehicle models at the plant and qualifies employees for future
series production.

The pre-production models built at the BMW Group Spartanburg plant
are handed over to development department specialists, who require
them for homologation, registration as well as for diverse testing
purposes such as endurance tests and test drives under extreme
conditions in the desert regions of Death Valley or on the ice and
snow covered slopes of Scandinavia.

The pre-production model is fitted with its camouflage wrap while
still at the plant. The conspicuous striped patterns are designed to
help conceal the new SAV’s final look as far as possible.

Fifth series from the BMW Group Spartanburg plant.
In Spartanburg, the BMW Group produces BMW X models for
the USA and the global market.
With record production figures of
more than 411,000 units in 2016, Spartanburg is currently the BMW
Group’s largest plant worldwide. Around 70 percent of the vehicles
produced in Spartanburg are exported to 140 countries throughout the
world. According to the US Ministry of Trade, the BMW Group is
therefore the largest vehicle exporter in the USA measured in export
value. Maximum annual production capacity stands at around 450,000 vehicles.

The BMW Group Spartanburg plant employs more than 9,000 people; a
further 1,000 jobs are to be added by the year 2021. Each day, 1,400
BMW X3, X4, X5 and X6 models come off the assembly line at the
Spartanburg plant; these will be complemented by a fifth series, the
BMW X7, for which the Spartanburg plant is currently preparing.

To date, the BMW Group has invested eight billion US dollars in the
production location and has built around 3.9 million vehicles since
being taken into operation on 8 September 1994.

*Due to the pre-series vehicle status, technical details like fuel
consumption, CO2 emissions, etc. will be communicated later next year.
