  <strong>“With the new BMW R 1300 RS, we’ve taken our sports touring
    bike with boxer engine to a whole new level. The motorcycle has been
    consistently designed with dynamic riding in mind. Thanks to an
    all-new engine, chassis and aerodynamic concept, it offers an even
    sportier riding experience than its predecessor. At the same time,
    it remains the perfect companion for comfortable touring and
    long-distance travel.”</strong>
  <br />Hauke Glässing, Project Manager BMW R 1300 RS</p>
<p>
  <strong>The new BMW R 1300 RS: The new sports tourer with boxer
    engine, featuring refined technology and styling, along with a
    dynamic design that signals sporty flair. Four attractive model variants.</strong></p>
<p>The goal behind developing the new BMW R 1300 RS was to achieve both
  a visual and technical enhancement of the sports touring bike with
  boxer engine. Alongside its much sportier design, equipment features
  such as the Performance variant – including a sport suspension, short
  hand levers, milled and adjustable footrests, DTC-Shift, two
  additional sport screens, sport seat, engine spoiler and sport tyres –
  allow customers to dial up the bike’s dynamic potential even further.
  At the same time, the BMW R 1300 RS remains a capable companion for
  everyday use and touring, and with options such as seat heating,
  Riding Assistant, a higher windscreen, and a variety of luggage
  choices, the bike can be perfectly tailored to individual needs of
  this type.</p>
<p>In addition to the basic version in Racing Blue metallic, the BMW R
  1300 RS is also available as the Triple Black model variant in
  Blackstorm metallic, the sport-focused Performance variant in
  Lightwhite uni, and the premium Option 719 Cuyamaca variant in
  Brooklyn Grey metallic.</p>
<p>
  <em>
    <strong>The new BMW R 1300 RS will be available in South Africa from
      the third quarter of 2025.</strong></em></p>
<p>
  <strong>Sporty ergonomics and equipment for both dynamic riding fun on
    country roads as well as comfortable touring and travel.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW Motorrad developers set out to make the new BMW R 1300 RS
  significantly more dynamic and sporty than its predecessor – a goal
  the new sports touring bike with boxer engine fulfils not only in
  terms of design, engine and chassis: equal importance was also placed
  on ergonomics, with a focus on creating a sportier, more active riding position.</p>
<p>Accordingly, the ergonomic triangle formed by handlebars, footrests
  and seat on the new R 1300 RS has been designed to position the rider
  noticeably further forward over the front wheel thanks to slightly
  rear-set footrests and flatter handlebars. This results in particular
  in improved feedback from the front end, especially during sporty
  riding, and therefore even greater controllability. At the same time,
  the sporty seating position still allows for relaxed touring and
  travel, even with a passenger. For a more touring-oriented riding
  position, the optional comfort handlebars are also available.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Various seat options and comfort handlebars allow for an
    optimised seating position. Featuring electrified cases and topcase,
    along with a clever tank bag, a new luggage system ensures a
    comfortable experience on extended tours and holiday trips.</strong></p>
<p>Since the launch of the BMW R 100 RS in 1976, BMW RS models with
  boxer engines have earned a legendary reputation for perfectly
  combining sporty motorcycling, the thrill of cornering and comfortable
  touring. For this reason, the new BMW R 1300 RS not only features a
  new luggage system, but also offers a wide range of seat variants and
  optional comfort handlebars to meet the individual ergonomic needs of
  all riders. In addition to the standard rider’s seat, five others are
  available as individual items of optional equipment ex works.</p>
<p>For touring and holiday trips, the new BMW R 1300 RS can be equipped
  ex works with case holders and a topcase carrier, while a newly
  developed case system and topcase are available as part of the
  Original BMW Motorrad Accessories range. The cases offer a capacity of
  26 and 29 litres respectively, while the topcase holds 39 litres. The
  two cases and the topcase are electrified and can be unlocked using
  the central locking system. Both the cases and the topcase also
  feature interior lighting, while the left-hand case and the topcase
  additionally include a USB-C charging port. The tank bag is also new.
  For the first time, it is completely strapless and attaches to the
  bike via a tank ring.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Rugged boxer engine with top figures for power and torque
    along with optimised running smoothness and efficiency.</strong></p>
<p>The boxer engine in the new BMW R 1300 RS has a capacity of exactly 1
  300 cc while the ratio between bore and stroke is 106.5 to 73 mm
  (predecessor: 102.5 to 76 mm). This increase in capacity derives from
  an enlarged cylinder bore and a new crankshaft with reduced stroke. It
  has an output of 107 kW (145 hp) (predecessor: 100 kW (136 hp), still
  at 7 750 rpm, and develops a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6 500 rpm
  (predecessor: 143 Nm at 6 250 rpm), making it by far the most powerful
  serial production BMW boxer engine to date. Its maximum engine speed
  is 9 000 rpm.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Three riding modes are included as standard, allowing the bike
    to adapt ideally to any road conditions. Riding Modes Pro with the
    additional modes “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro”, along with riding mode
    pre-selection as optional equipment ex works. Engine drag torque
    control (MSR) as standard.</strong></p>
<p>In standard trim, the new R 1300 RS has three riding modes for
  adaptation to individual rider preferences. The “Rain” and “Road”
  riding modes allow riding characteristics to be adapted to most road
  conditions. The “Eco” riding mode also makes it possible to use the
  innovative BMW ShiftCam technology primarily in such a way that the
  maximum range can be achieved with a single tank of fuel. On request
  the new R 1300 RS can also be fitted with the optional equipment item
  “Riding Modes Pro” ex works. Among other things, this comprises the
  additional riding modes “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro”. With the riding
  mode pre-selection the rider can use the riding mode button to make an
  individual selection. In this way, a preferred and easily manageable
  number of riding modes can be configured and selected while riding.</p>
<p>Engine drag torque control (MSR) is on board even in standard trim.
  This can be used to safely avoid unstable riding conditions that can
  occur during coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip at
  the rear wheel. In these cases, MSR instantly opens the throttle
  valves to such an extent that drag torque is equalised and the
  motorcycle stabilises.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Automated shift assistant (ASA) with fully automated clutch
    operation and manual or automated shifting for an enhanced
    motorcycling experience as optional equipment.</strong></p>
<p>With the automated shift assistant (ASA), BMW Motorrad offers an
  innovative technical solution to make motorcycling easier and more
  comfortable. True to the motto “Simplify your Ride”, automated clutch
  operation and gear changes puts the riding experience even more front
  and centre – without sacrificing the dynamic of the shifting process.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Completely newly developed chassis with sheet metal main frame
    made of steel and aluminium rear frame.</strong></p>
<p>The chassis of the new BMW R 1300 RS has been completely redesigned.
  The centrepiece is the new sheet metal main frame made of steel, which
  in addition to a significant optimisation of the installation space
  for even more compact packaging also offers higher levels of stiffness
  than the predecessor model. In the course of the redesign, the rear
  frame was also completely reconceived. In place of the previous
  tubular steel construction, the new R 1300 RS now has a rear frame
  made of die-cast aluminium.</p>
<p>In combination with a drive unit that is now much more compact, the
  new design of the chassis achieved a significant concentration of mass
  towards the overall centre of gravity, which is reflected in
  noticeable handling benefits. At the same time, the new R 1300 RS is
  even more precise and stable when braking, requires noticeably less
  effort to ride, and offers an even more satisfyingly precise response
  of the suspension elements.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New upside-down telescopic fork and new EVO Paralever rear
    suspension for even greater precision. New wheels more than 1.4 kg lighter.</strong></p>
<p>In the new BMW R 1300 RS, front wheel guide is handled by a new
  upside-down telescopic fork with an inner tube diameter of 47 mm. The
  rear wheel guide of the new R 1300 RS has also been redesigned. The
  hallmark of the Evo Paralever is a significantly stiffer connection
  via the suspension in the frame and a continuous swinging arm
  quick-release axle.</p>
<p>The new R 1300 RS also features new 17-inch aluminium cast wheels
  with hollow-spoke design. All in all they weigh in at more than 1.4 kg
  less than the existing wheels. The reduced rotational masses result in
  both improved acceleration and brake response as well as optimised
  handling qualities.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), with
    dynamic adjustment of the damping, spring rate and load compensation
    as optional equipment. The world’s first series production
    motorcycle telescopic fork with adjustable spring rate.</strong></p>
<p>With its dynamic adjustment of the damping and adjustable spring rest
  at the rear, the standard electronic Dynamic ESA itself offers a high
  level of ride safety and riding fun on a wide variety of terrains.</p>
<p>The electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) now goes one step
  further, combining the dynamic adjustment of the front and rear
  damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring rate (“spring
  stiffness”) – depending on the selected riding mode, riding condition
  and manoeuvres. After the new R 1300 R presented a few weeks ago, this
  makes the new BMW R 1300 RS the second series production motorcycle
  with an upside-down telescopic fork that allows adjustment of the
  spring rate. Automatic load compensation is provided by the adjustable
  spring rest. With DSA, the rider benefits from even more refined
  handling and increased banking freedom in “Dynamic” mode.</p>
<p>
  <strong>A high-performance braking system in conjunction with Integral
    ABS Pro comes as standard. Sport brake as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The new R 1300 RS comes as standard with a twin disc brake featuring
  two radially mounted four-piston fixed callipers at the front and a
  single disc brake with two-piston floating calliper at the rear in
  conjunction with BMW Motorrad Integral ABS Pro. The new BMW R 1300 RS
  can be fitted with the sport brake system as optional equipment ex
  works. In addition to a sportier look with titanium-coloured brake
  callipers, it offers a slight increase in braking performance.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Standard full LED headlight with separate high beam and
    state-of-the-art LED light units all round. For the first time on a </strong>
  <strong>BMW RS, Headlight Pro with adaptive turning light is available
    as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>BMW Motorrad is regarded as the <em>pioneer par excellence</em> when
  it comes to motorcycling safety and related innovations. Accordingly,
  the new R 1300 RS comes as standard with a newly designed twin-chamber
  LED headlight in a very slim, sporty design featuring a distinctive
  light icon. The lighting unit comprises two LED elements for the low
  beam and two additional, separately positioned LED elements for the
  high beam. Two more LED units are provided for the daytime running
  light and side light. State-of-the-art LED light units with newly
  designed LED rear light round off the lighting concept of the new <br clear="all" />R 1300 RS.</p>
<p>With the optional Adaptive Turning Light, the dipped beam of the
  standard full LED headlight is optimised for cornering, depending on
  the banking position, by activating additional LED elements. In this
  way, the bend is almost fully illuminated because the light moves to
  where the motorcycle is heading. By optimising the light pattern, the
  dipped beam light ensures an even wider and more homogeneous
  illumination of the road.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front
    Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (SWW) and Rear End
    Collision Warning (RECW) for more convenient and safer motorcycling
    as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The new R 1300 RS comes as standard with Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC)
  with braking function, while the Riding Assistant as optional
  equipment ex works offers a significantly wider range of functions,
  including Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW),
  Lane Change Warning (SWW), and the new Rear End Collision Warning (RECW).</p>
<p>
  <strong>For the first time, navigation preparation now features
    electric locking for maximum operating comfort as optional equipment
    ex works.</strong></p>
<p>This item of ex works optional equipment allows quick and secure
  attachment and operation of a navigation device or smartphone using a
  mount cradle. For the first time, this mount no longer requires a key
  – it unlocks electrically for maximum convenience.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Optional equipment and Original BMW Motorrad Accessories for
    the new <br clear="all" />BMW R 1300 RS.</strong></p>
<p>An extensive program of optional equipment and optional accessories
  is available for further customisation of the new BMW R 1300 RS.</p>
<p>

  <strong>“With the new BMW R 1300 RT, we’ve taken the touring icon from
    BMW Motorrrad to a whole new level. It is lighter in design, more
    accessible and more dynamic than ever before. In addition, with a
    completely new engine, chassis and aerodynamics, it offers a riding
    experience that meets the highest demands in this segment in terms
    of dynamics, comfort and travel capability".</strong>
  <br />Harald Spagl, Project Manager BMW R 1300 RT</p>
<p>
  <strong>The new BMW R 1300 RT: Wider range from comfortable tourer to
    dynamic country road motorcycle. Dynamic design language with
    optimised wind and weather protection</strong>.</p>
<p>The new BMW R 1300 RT follows in the footsteps of its highly
  successful predecessor. It continues to build on the proven qualities
  of the BMW RT, such as touring capability and riding comfort - alone,
  as a pair or with plenty of luggage.</p>
<p>At the same time, the new R 1300 RT has broadened its usage profile
  by making its dynamic systems even more prominent. Sporty optional
  equipment such as the sport brake, the enhanced Shift Assistant Pro
  and the newly developed DCA electronic suspension allow an even more
  active and dynamic riding style. The range of optional extras is
  complemented by the Automated Shift Assistant ASA, which can be ridden
  in a sporty and dynamic manual mode, but also allows comfortable
  riding in automatic mode. All this, combined with a more dynamic and
  visually lighter design, promises to continue the success story of the
  BMW RT.</p>
<p>The wind and weather protection concept of the new R 1300 RT includes
  adjustable side trim that is homogeneously integrated into the design.
  This makes it possible to provide the rider with an adequate supply of
  fresh air at all times, even in challenging conditions such as city
  traffic or high outside temperatures on country roads, and to offer
  highly effective protection from the wind and weather at low
  temperatures when riding on the highway or motorway. </p>
<p>In addition to the basic version in Alpine White 3 uni colour, the
  new BMW R 1300 RT is available in the Triple Black model variant in
  Blackstorm metallic, the emphatically dynamic Impulse model variant in
  Racing Blue metallic and the particularly elegant model variant Option
  719 Camargue in Blue Ridge Mountain metallic.</p>
<p>
  <em>
    <strong>The new BMW R 1300 RT will be available in South Africa from
      the third quarter of 2025.</strong></em></p>
<p>
  <strong>Perfect ergonomics and equipment for comfortable and dynamic
    travelling and touring.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW R 1300 RT's design, engine and chassis are not the only
  aspects of the BMW touring icon that reflect the BMW Motorrad
  development team's ambition to expand the range of possible uses of
  the new BMW R 1300 RT and make it even more dynamic. Equal importance
  was also placed on ergonomics, with a focus on creating a more active
  riding position.</p>
<p>Accordingly, the ergonomic triangle formed by handlebars, footrests
  and seat on the new R 1300 RT have been designed to position the rider
  noticeably further forward. This results in improved feedback from the
  front section and therefore even greater controllability during
  dynamic riding. At the same time, the more active seating position
  still allows for relaxed touring and cruising, even with a passenger.
  The height and angle of the rider's seat can be adjusted to fine-tune
  the riding position. Passenger comfort has also been significantly
  improved. The new cases now offer more space for the passenger’s lower
  legs without compromising the volume of the cases. The passenger seat
  has also been lengthened. There is now more space to change your
  seating position from time to time on longer trips.</p>
<p>
  <strong>A choice of different seat heights for optimum riding comfort
    and a new luggage system with electric cases and topcase. Additional
    variable-volume case system for optimum customisation.</strong></p>
<p>As usual, BMW Motorrad's engineers have paid particular attention to
  easy access and a low seat height. For this reason, the development of
  the new R 1300 RT placed particular focus on achieving a seat height
  of only 780 mm. The inner leg curve is also significantly smaller than
  on the previous model. In addition to the standard seat, other seats
  are available as individual items of optional equipment ex works.</p>
<p>The new BMW R 1300 RT is equipped as standard with cases (27 litres
  each) for touring and holiday trips. Further highlights of the new R
  1300 RT are the Vario cases, available ex works for the first time as
  an optional equipment for a BMW RT. The variable luggage system allows
  the volume to be adjusted from 27 to 33 litres to suit the width of
  the motorcycle. Both cases are electrified and can be unlocked using
  the central locking system. They also both feature interior lighting,
  and the left-hand case includes a USB-C charging port. The two
  topcases with a capacity of 39 and 54 litres respectively offer
  additional storage space. The large 54-litre luggage compartment is
  also electric. A special feature is the heated backrest for the passenger.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Rugged boxer engine with top figures for power output and
    torque along with optimised running smoothness and efficiency.</strong></p>

  <strong>Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) with fully automated clutch
    operation and manual or automated shifting for an enhanced
    motorcycling experience as optional equipment.</strong></p>
<p>With the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), BMW Motorrad offers an
  innovative technical solution to make motorcycling easier and more
  comfortable. True to the motto “Simplify your Ride”, automated clutch
  operation and gear changes puts the riding experience even more front
  and centre - without sacrificing the dynamics of the shifting process.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Completely newly developed chassis with sheet metal main frame
    made of steel and aluminium rear frame.</strong></p>
<p>The chassis of the new BMW R 1300 RT has been completely redesigned.
In place of the previous
  tubular steel construction, the new R 1300 RT now has an aluminium
  lattice tube rear frame.</p>
<p>In combination with a drive unit that is now much more compact, the
  new design of the chassis achieved a significant concentration of mass
  towards the overall centre of gravity, which is reflected in
  noticeable handling benefits. At the same time, the new R 1300 RT is
  even more precise and stable when braking, requires noticeably less
  effort to ride, and offers an even more satisfyingly precise response
  of the suspension elements.</p>
<p>
  <strong>The best of both worlds: EVO Telelever front wheel guide with
    flex element and new EVO Paralever rear wheel guide for even greater
    steering precision and ride stability. New wheels more than 1.4 kg lighter.</strong></p>
<p>The front wheel guide in the new R 1300 RT follows the Telelever
  principle introduced by BMW Motorrad 30 years ago - but in an
  innovative, newly designed form that combines the best of both worlds.</p>
<p>With the Evo Telelever, BMW Motorrad now combines the strengths of
  the two previously used Telelever variants in the new BMW R 1300 RT.
  Clamped tightly to the fork tubes - as previously in the sporty design
  - the upper fork construction (as in the GS) incorporates a handlebar
  decoupling system that prevents any detrimental tilting movement and
  only transmits steering forces.</p>
<p>The rear wheel guide of the new R 1300 RT has also been redesigned.
  The hallmark of the Evo Paralever is a significantly stiffer
  connection via the suspension in the frame and a continuous swinging
  arm quick-release axle.</p>
<p>The new R 1300 RT features new 17-inch aluminium cast wheels with
  hollow-spoke design. All-in-all they weigh in at more than 1.4 kg less
  than the existing wheels.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New electronic suspension Dynamic Chassis Adaption (DCA) for
    two rider-selectable riding positions for maximum spread between
    ride comfort and dynamic handling, as well as with dynamic
    adjustment of damping, spring rate and load equalisation as optional
    equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>Even the standard Dynamic ESA electronic chassis offers a high level
  of riding safety and riding enjoyment on a wide variety of road
  surfaces thanks to dynamic adjustment of the damping and
  load-dependent adjustment of the rear spring preload.</p>
<p>The electronic Dynamic Chassis Adaption (DCA) now goes one step
  further and, in addition to the familiar Dynamic Suspension Adjustment
  (DSA) options - such as dynamic adjustment of damping, spring rate and
  load equalisation - offers two rider-selectable riding positions via
  the riding modes for maximum spread between ride comfort and dynamic
  handling. This makes for an even more thrilling riding experience in
  all conditions.</p>
<p>DCA has been developed with equal emphasis on dynamic performance and
  comfort. The new semi-active chassis offers two different riding
  positions. One riding position has a flat steering head angle and
  therefore a chassis geometry designed to maximise riding stability and
  smoothness. The second riding position features firmer damping tuning,
  a higher spring rate and a higher ride height. Raising the rear end
  more than the front results in a steeper steering head angle and
  reduced castor, making the motorcycle easier to steer and handle. DCA
  makes these two different chassis geometries possible and combines
  them with the riding modes.</p>
<p>
  <strong>A high-performance braking system in conjunction with Integral
    ABS Pro comes as standard. Sport brake as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The R 1300 RT comes as standard with a twin disc brake featuring two
  radially mounted four-piston fixed callipers at the front and a single
  disc brake with two-piston floating calliper at the rear in
  conjunction with BMW Motorrad Integral ABS Pro. The new <br />BMW R
  1300 RT can be fitted with the sport brake system as optional
  equipment ex works. In addition to a sportier look with
  titanium-coloured brake callipers, it offers a slight increase in
  braking performance.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New full LED headlights and state-of-the-art LED light units
    feature all round. Headlight Pro with adaptive headlight and pitch
    compensation as well as adaptive light modes with intelligent
    adjustment of the alignment and intensity of the low beam to
    different riding situations are available as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>For decades now, BMW Motorrad has been regarded as a frontrunner when
  it comes to safety in connection with motorcycling. Accordingly, the
  new R 1300 RT comes with state-of-the-art LED light units all around
  as standard. The new full LED headlamp which illuminates the road with
  unrivalled brightness and clarity, underlines the prestige of the new
  R 1300 RT. The light unit consists of an LED module with multiple LEDs
  for low beam and high beam. The daytime running light or position
  light icon (depending on the market), which is positioned to the left
  and right of the headlamp, provides a distinctive look.</p>
<p>Headlight Pro goes one step further available as optional equipment
  ex works. In addition to the adaptive headlight, the headlamp of the
  new R 1300 RT also features pitch compensation - for example when
  accelerating and decelerating as well as for levelling the riding
  position in DCA. Headlight Pro features a servomotor that
  automatically and actively adjusts the position of the cut-off line to
  keep the vertical inclination within the optimum range when the load
  or load status changes.</p>
<p>Headlight Pro can be further enhanced with the optional “Adaptive
  Light Modes” (depending on market), which offer lighting technology
  that intelligently adapts the direction and intensity of the low beam
  to different riding situations. The Adaptive Lighting Modes provide
  optimum lighting conditions for night-time riding with speed-dependent
  road illumination. Lighting is provided in several stages: for low,
  medium and high speeds. Intelligent adaptation to speed and riding
  conditions increases safety and helps to guide the rider.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front
    Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (SWW) and Rear End
    Collision Warning (RECW) for convenient and safe motorcycling as
    optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The new R 1300 RT is already equipped with Dynamic Cruise Control
  (DCC) with braking function as standard. The Riding Assistant offers
  many more functions as an optional extra ex works. It consists of
  Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane
  Change Warning (SWW) and Rear End Collision Warning (RECW).</p>
<p>
  <strong>10.25-inch TFT colour display with map navigation, a wide
    range of functions and new Connectivity Hub for controlling
    accessories as well as actively ventilated smartphone charging
    compartment with USB-C charging port as standard.</strong></p>
<p>The R 1300 RT comes fitted as standard with a 10.25-inch TFT colour
  screen with integrated map navigation and newly developed Connectivity
  Hub. With maximum connectivity, excellent readability, clear menu
  navigation and a highly integrated operating concept, the new R 1300
  RT maintains its leading position among production motorcycles.</p>
<p>The “tiles” shown can be used to select the “My Motorcycle”, “Radio”,
  “Navigation”, “Media”, “Phone” and “Settings” menus. A new feature is
  the Connectivity Hub "tile" for connecting current and
  future accessories such as smart glasses, heated vests and lightweight
  jackets. This simplifies the operation of the accessories.</p>
<p>The new R 1300 RT comes as standard with an actively ventilated
  smartphone charging compartment located within the rider's reach. It
  is even easier to open than its predecessor and can accommodate much
  larger smartphones. The smartphone battery is charged via a USB-C
  interface. The lid also has a clip that can be used for a debit card
  or banknotes.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Audio System and Audio Pro available as optional extras
    ex-works for outstanding sound.</strong></p>
<p>With the Audio System, the new R 1300 RT offers an even more intense
  sound experience. It features a high level of integration with the
  vehicle's electrical system. The menu control, setting options and
  unique display concept make the audio experience perfect in terms of
  interaction as well. In addition to the loudspeakers, a connected
  communication system can also be used for playback.</p>
<p>Audio Pro offers an even more impressive sound experience. Ordered as
  optional equipment to the audio system, it features higher quality
  loudspeakers with separate tweeter/midrange and woofer control for
  extra powerful, crystal-clear sound. A choice of sound profiles and
  dynamic volume control ensure optimum listening pleasure in every
  riding situation. Audio Pro is also a visual highlight. A silver
  perforated grille without fleece provides a clear view of the speakers
  with their gold dust protection dome.</p>
<p>

  <strong>“With the new BMW R 1300 R, we’ve taken our dynamic roadster
    with boxer engine to a whole new level. Focussed uncompromisingly on
    riding dynamics, it delivers a far sportier experience than its
    predecessor thanks to a completely redesigned engine and chassis,
    while still retaining core BMW values such as touring capability and
  comfort."<br /></strong>Christof Lischka, Head of Development BMW Motorrad</p>
<p>
  <strong>The new BMW R 1300 R: the new dynamic roadster with boxer
    engine is noticeably sportier – both technically and visually –
    featuring dynamic styling for an aggressive, athletic design. </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>Four attractive equipment variants.</strong></p>
<p>The goal behind developing the new BMW R 1300 R was to achieve both a
  visual and technical enhancement of the dynamic roadster with boxer
  engine. Alongside its more aggressive, sportier design, equipment
  features such as the Performance variant – including a sport
  suspension, short hand levers, milled and adjustable footrests, <br clear="all" />DTC-Shift, two additional sport screens, sport seat,
  engine spoiler and sport tyres – allow customers to dial up the bike’s
  dynamic potential even further. At the same time, the BMW R 1300 R
  remains a capable companion for everyday use and touring, and with
  options such as seat heating, Riding Assistant, a higher windscreen,
  and a variety of luggage choices, the bike can be perfectly tailored
  to individual needs.</p>
<p>The basic version of the BMW R 1300 R is offered in Snapper Rocks
  metallic, with additional variants including the Exclusive variant in
  Racing blue metallic, the sport-focussed Performance variant in
  Lightwhite uni, and the premium Option 719 Kilauea in Blackstorm metallic.</p>
<p>
  <strong>The new BMW R 1300 R will be available in South Africa from
    the third quarter of 2025.  </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>Sporty ergonomics and equipment for both dynamic riding fun
    and touring comfort.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW Motorrad developers set out to make the new BMW R 1300 R
  significantly more dynamic and sporty than its predecessor – a goal
  the new dynamic roadster with boxer engine fulfils not only in terms
  of design, engine and chassis: equal importance was also placed on
  ergonomics, with a focus on creating a sportier, more active riding position.</p>
<p>Accordingly, the ergonomic triangle formed by handlebars, footrests
  and seat on the new BMW R 1300 R has been designed to position the
  rider noticeably further forward over the front wheel thanks to
  slightly rear-set footrests and flatter handlebars. This results in
  particular in improved feedback from the front end, especially during
  sporty riding, and therefore even greater controllability. At the same
  time, the sporty seating position still allows for relaxed touring and
  cruising, even with a passenger. Optional Comfort handlebars are also available.</p>
<p>
  <strong>A range of seat variants ensures an optimum seat height, while
    a newly developed luggage system with electrified cases and a clever
    tank bag makes the bike ideal for comfortable touring and holiday trips.</strong></p>
<p>For many years, BMW’s roadsters with boxer engine have enjoyed an
  excellent reputation among female customers and restarters in
  particular. This is thanks to their good accessibility and low seat
  height. For this reason, the development of the new R 1300 R again
  placed particular focus on achieving a seat height of well below 790
  mm. In addition to the standard seat, several others are available as
  individual items of optional equipment ex works.</p>
<p>For touring and holiday rides, the new BMW R 1300 R can be fitted
  with a newly developed case system and case holders from the BMW
  Motorrad Original Accessories range, or with preparation for the
  luggage system fitted as optional equipment ex works. The cases have a
  capacity of 26 and 29 litres, respectively. Both are electrified and
  can be unlocked using the central locking system. They also both
  feature interior lighting, and the left-hand case includes a USB-C
  charging port. The tank bag is also new. For the first time, it is
  completely strapless and attaches to the bike via a tank ring.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Rugged boxer engine with top figures for power and torque
    along with optimised running smoothness and efficiency.</strong></p>
<p>The boxer engine in the new BMW R 1300 R has a capacity of exactly 1
<p>
<p>In standard trim, the new R 1300 R has three riding modes for
  adaptation to individual rider preferences.
On request
  the new R 1300 R can also be fitted with the optional equipment item
  “Riding Modes Pro” ex works: among other things, this comprises the
  additional riding modes “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro”.
<p>
<p>
  <strong>Completely newly developed chassis with sheet metal main frame
    made of steel and aluminium rear frame.</strong></p>
<p>The chassis of the new BMW R 1300 R has been completely redesigned.
In place of the previous
  tubular steel construction, the new R 1300 R now has a rear frame made
  of die-cast aluminium.</p>
<p>In combination with a drive unit that is now much more compact, the
  new design of the chassis achieved a significant concentration of mass
  towards the overall centre of gravity, which is reflected in
  noticeable handling benefits. At the same time, the new R 1300 R is
  even more precise and stable when braking, requires noticeably less
  effort to ride, and offers an even more satisfyingly precise response
  of the suspension elements.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New upside-down telescopic fork and revised EVO Paralever II
    rear suspension for even greater handling precision. New wheels more
    than 1.4 kg lighter.</strong></p>
<p>In the new BMW R 1300 R, front wheel guide is handled by a new
  upside-down telescopic fork with an inner tube diameter of 47 mm. The
  rear wheel guide of the new R 1300 R has also been redesigned. The
  hallmark of the Evo Paralever II is a significantly stiffer connection
  via the suspension in the frame and a continuous swinging arm
  quick-release axle.</p>
<p>The new R 1300 R also features new 17-inch aluminium cast wheels with
  hollow-spoke design. All in all they weigh in at more than 1.4 kg less
  than the existing wheels. The reduced rotational masses result in both
  improved acceleration and brake response as well as optimised handling qualities.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), with
    dynamic adjustment of the damping, spring rate and load compensation
    as optional equipment. The world’s first series production
    motorcycle telescopic fork with adjustable spring rate.</strong></p>
<p>With its dynamic adjustment of the damping and adjustable spring rest
  at the rear, the standard electronic Dynamic ESA itself offers a high
  level of riding safety and riding fun on a wide variety of terrains.</p>
<p>The electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) now goes one step
  further, combining the dynamic adjustment of the front and rear
  damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring rate (“spring
  stiffness”) depending on the selected riding mode, riding condition
  and manoeuvres. This makes the new BMW R 1300 R the first series
  production motorcycle with an upside-down telescopic fork that allows
  adjustment of the spring rate. Automatic load compensation is provided
  by the adjustable spring rest. With DSA, the rider benefits from even
  more refined handling and increased banking freedom.</p>
<p>
  <strong>A high-performance braking system in conjunction with Integral
    ABS Pro comes as standard. Sport brake as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The R 1300 R comes as standard with a twin disc brake featuring two
  radially mounted four-piston fixed callipers at the front and a single
  disc brake with two-piston floating calliper at the rear in
  conjunction with BMW Motorrad Integral ABS Pro. The new BMW R 1300 R
  can be fitted with the sport brake system as optional equipment ex
  works. In addition to a sportier look with titanium-coloured brake
  callipers, it offers a slight increase in braking performance.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Standard full LED headlight in dynamic octagonal design and
    state-of-the-art LED lighting throughout. Headlight Pro with
    adaptive turning light as optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>BMW Motorrad is regarded as the pioneer par excellence when it comes
  to motorcycling safety and related innovations. Accordingly, the new R
  1300 R comes as standard with a newly designed LED headlight in a
  dynamic octagonal shape, featuring a distinctive light icon.</p>
<p>With the optional Adaptive Turning Light, the dipped beam of the
  standard full LED headlight is optimised for cornering, depending on
  the banking position, by activating additional LED elements. In this
  way, the bend is almost fully illuminated because the light moves to
  where the motorcycle is heading. By optimising the light pattern, the
  dipped beam light ensures an even wider and more homogeneous
  illumination of the road.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Frontal
    Collision Warning (FCW) for safe and comfortable motorcycling as
    optional equipment ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW R 1300 R can be equipped with the Riding Assistant for
  even safer and more comfortable motorcycling. This includes Active
  Cruise Control (ACC) and Frontal Collision Warning (FCW).</p>
<p>
For the first time, this holder no longer requires a key
  – it unlocks electrically for maximum convenience.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Optional equipment and Original BMW Motorrad Accessories for
    the new BMW R 1300 R.</strong></p>
<p>An extensive range of optional equipment and accessories is available
  for further customisation of the new BMW R 1300 R.</p>

  <strong>Munich.</strong> The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2024
  returned to its roots in Africa, with Namibia serving as the
  breathtaking backdrop for this ninth edition of the legendary event.</p>
<p>Over the course of six days, 22 teams from around the world —
  comprising 16 men’s and 6 women’s teams — traversed an adventurous
  1,350-kilometre route through some of Namibia's most challenging and
  diverse terrains.</p>
<p>This year's event was not merely a competition but a true test of
  skill, endurance, and camaraderie, reflecting the essence of the GS spirit.</p>
<p>The event kicked off with teams navigating vast dry savanna areas,
  towering canyons, rocky trails, and dry riverbeds. Each day presented
  unique challenges designed to push the limits of both the riders and
  their machines. Participants faced a series of special stages that
  tested their off-road riding capabilities, mechanical knowledge,
  navigation skills, intelligence, and teamwork, all while demonstrating
  the rugged versatility of the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike.</p>
<p>With nearly 190 participants — including riders, marshals, mechanics,
  medical teams, and media representatives — from 34 nations, the GS
  Trophy 2024 was a global celebration of adventure motorcycling. It
  brought together 120 motorcycles and 32 support vehicles, creating a
  vivid tableau of international unity and shared passion for exploration.</p>
<p>Returning to Africa, where the GS Trophy first began in 2008, this
  year’s edition paid homage to the spirit of adventure that has defined
  the event since its inception. After traveling through the challenging
  terrains of Tunisia, Southern Africa, Patagonia, Canada, Thailand,
  Mongolia, New Zealand, and Albania in previous editions, the GS Trophy
  came full circle, embracing Namibia's rugged beauty.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Team Germany Reclaims the Trophy.<br /></strong>The final day
  of the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2024 was charged with
  excitement as Team Germany stood on the brink of an extraordinary
  achievement. With South Africa having claimed the last four editions —
  in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022 — Germany was eager to carve their own
  place in the event’s storied history.</p>
<p>Having previously won the GS Trophy in 2012, Team Germany was no
  stranger to success. This year, they returned with renewed
  determination, ready to showcase their skill and teamwork on Namibia’s
  demanding and diverse terrain. From the challenging riverbed of the
  Khan River to the rugged ascents of Bosua Pass, the German team met
  every challenge with precision and resilience, distinguishing
  themselves through their consistent performance.</p>
<p>Reflecting on their victory, <strong>Christopher Michi (181)</strong>
  expressed the team’s disbelief and joy: “<em>It’s an indescribable
    feeling. We came here to give our best, but actually to stand here
    as winners, it’s surreal.</em>”</p>
<p>Throughout the competition, their strategic approach and unwavering
  focus allowed them to steadily gain points, ultimately securing their
  lead. “<em>We’ve trained for this moment for so long,</em>” said
    <strong>Niko Wecker (182)</strong>. “<em>Every special stage, every
    obstacle, we faced it together as a team. South Africa has set the
    bar incredibly high for so many years, and to reach this milestone
    is just incredible.</em>”</p>
<p>When the final results were announced, the team’s excitement was
  undeniable. They had accomplished what they set out to do, reclaiming
  the GS Trophy title. “<em>This victory is more than just a
  trophy,</em>” <strong>Jan Stahl (183)</strong> reflected. “<em>It’s
    the culmination of everything we’ve worked for. The feeling of
    standing here, knowing we’ve made it — it’s something we’ll never forget.</em>”</p>
<p>
  <strong>The Rise of Team International: A New Milestone for the Female
  Riders.<br /></strong>After six days of relentless competition through
  Namibia's challenging terrains, the Female International Team emerged victorious.</p>
<p>From the outset, the team demonstrated a remarkable blend of skill,
  teamwork, and determination. Each special stage was met with
  enthusiasm and grit as they navigated through the dunes, rocky passes,
  and technical trails that defined this year's course. Their journey
  was not just about the competition; it was about the bond they shared
  and the passion they brought to every challenge.</p>
<p>“<em>I am beyond thrilled! This feels like a dream come true,</em>”
  said <strong>Małgorzata Jakubiak (321)</strong>, reflecting on their
  victory. “<em>We knew the competition would be tough, but to stand
    here as winners is something I will cherish forever. We’ve pushed
    our limits and learned so much along the way.</em>”</p>
<p>The team's strategy and cohesion were key to their success, allowing
  them to consistently perform at the highest level across the various
  special stages. Their victory was a testament to the strength of their
  preparation and the support they gave each other throughout the event.
    “<em>I am over the moon!</em>” said <strong>Anna Cárdova
  (322)</strong>. “<em>I never imagined we would come this far, and to
    be standing here as winners is just surreal. It’s an honour I never
    expected, and I’m so grateful to be a part of this incredible experience!</em>”</p>
<p>This victory is not just a win for Team International; it is a
  celebration of the growing presence and impact of female riders in the
  world of adventure motorcycling.</p>
<p>In 2024, BMW Motorrad continues to champion female riders by
  maintaining dedicated competition categories for the women's teams,
  featuring six two-person teams tackling the same course and challenges
  as the men’s teams, competing for their own Trophy. And what an
  incredible display of skill and spirit it has been.</p>
<p>Fearless and remarkably prepared, these women have proven themselves
  in terms of both skills and endurance, and their mastery of the BMW R
  1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike has been impressive. These competitors
  stand at the forefront of a growing movement of women embracing
  adventure motorcycling, and their stories reflect the vibrant
  evolution of the female GS scene.</p>
<p>
  <strong>The Adventure Unfolded: Day-by-Day Triumphs and Trials.</strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>Day 1: </strong>Midgard to Ai Aiba – A Warm Welcome.<br />At
  day 1 the GS Trophy 2024 kicked off with an exhilarating ride from
  Midgard to Ai Aiba, introducing participants to the Namibian
  landscape’s diverse and challenging terrain.</p>
<p>The riders faced three special challenges: the Namibia Welcome Trial,
  a technical section near an abandoned copper mine; the AKRAPOVIČ
  Enduro Challenge, a thrilling test through a sandy riverbed; and the
  Photo Challenge, where riders had to capture the spirit of the day in
  a single image.<br />
  <strong>Highlighted Challenge:</strong> AKRAPOVIČ Enduro
  Challenge.<br />Set in the sandy riverbed of Omaruru river, this
  challenge tested the riders' endurance and control as they navigated
  the soft sand and unpredictable terrain. It was a demanding start that
  quickly reminded everyone why they were there — to push their limits
  and embrace the adventure.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Day 2:</strong> Ai Aiba to Spitzkoppe – Into the Heart of
  Namibia.<br />Riders embarked on a scenic loop around Ai Aiba’s game
  reserve, encountering giraffes and zebras along the way before heading
  towards the iconic Spitzkoppe. They tackled the Flying Boxer
  Challenge, and the SENA Rock Challenge.<br />
  <strong>Highlighted Challenge: </strong>Flying Boxer.<br />Riders had
  to pull a suspended motorcycle across a canyon using ropes, a visually
  stunning challenge that required strength, coordination, and teamwork.
  It was a spectacular sight, showcasing both the riders' ingenuity and
  the breathtaking Namibian landscape.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Day 3:</strong> Spitzkoppe Loop – Whispers of Stone and
  Sand.<br />Day 3 saw riders navigating a loop around the Spitzkoppe,
  traversing the dry Omaruru Riverbed and its surrounding rocky terrain.
  They faced the Camel Thorn Tree Challenge, the Omaruru METZELER
  Challenge, and the Spitzkoppe INSTA360 Challenge and a continuation of
  the Photo Challenge.<br />
  <strong>Highlighted Challenge:</strong> Camel Thorn Tree
  Challenge.<br />Set in the sandy riverbed of the Omaruru River, this
  challenge required teams to plug a tire quickly and efficiently — a
  real-world scenario that tested their mechanical skills under
  pressure. It was a unique opportunity to showcase practical skills in
  the stunning yet harsh Namibian environment.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Day 4:</strong> Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund – From the Desert to
  the Deep Blue.<br />The riders journeyed westward from Spitzkoppe to
  the Atlantic coast, experiencing a dramatic change in scenery as they
  transitioned from desert dunes to the coastal town of Swakopmund. The
  day included the ADVANTEC Pull Challenge and the Rooi Tafel Trial.<br />
  <strong>Highlighted Challenge: </strong>Rooi Tafel Trial.<br />Riders
  navigated a technical trial course featuring tight turns, deep sand,
  and steep climbs in the rocky terrain near the Khan River Valley. The
  breathtaking landscape added to the difficulty and spectacle of this
  demanding challenge.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Day 5:</strong> Swakopmund to Midgard – The Long Way
  Home.<br />This was the longest and most varied day of the event, with
  riders covering over 400 km from the coast back to Midgard, traversing
  the Namib Desert and Bosua Pass. They faced the LEATT Push Challenge,
  MPS Questionaire and the Midgard Slow Trial.<br />
  <strong>Highlighted Challenge:</strong> LEATT Push
  Challenge.<br />Simulating a real-world scenario where a motorcycle
  needed to be jump-started, this challenge required teams to push the
  bike until it started, testing their coordination, strength, and
  ability to work under pressure. It was a unique and practical test of
  their skills.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Day 6:</strong> Midgard Loop – The Final Kilometres.<br />The
  final day featured a short but technical 50 km loop around the Midgard
  estate, with the last special challenge, the Final Course, taking
  place at the lodge. It was a true test of all the skills honed
  throughout the event.<br />
  <strong>Highlighted Challenge:</strong> Final Course.<br />Riders had
  to navigate a complex series of off-camber turns, tight corners, and a
  slalom section, with the entire course designed to push their
  technical abilities to the limit. It was a fitting conclusion to a
  week of intense competition and camaraderie.</p>
<p>After six grueling days of adventure, the event concluded with an
  unforgettable celebration under the Namibian sky. The final night was
  filled with laughter, stories, and friendship as the riders and crew
  gathered for the closing ceremony. A local DJ and the band “Blikweg”
  provided the soundtrack for the evening, their energetic performances
  lifting the spirits of everyone present. The night reflected the GS
  Trophy spirit, with participants dancing, sharing their experiences,
  and celebrating their accomplishments. It was a fitting end to an epic
  journey, leaving everyone with cherished memories of both the
  competition and the friendships forged along the way.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Safety at the Forefront: The GS Trophy Medical Team.<br /></strong>
  <strong>David Rubel</strong>, the <strong>Lead Medical
  Coordinator</strong>, emphasised the GS Trophy's commitment to rider
  safety. "<em>Our main goal was to ensure the response time is on
    par with European or U.S. standards, aiming for a maximum of 15 to
    16 minutes to reach an accident site,</em>" said Mr. Rubel. To
  achieve this, the team was well-equipped with “<em>four medical cars,
    including two doctors, six paramedics, and a helicopter staffed with
    a doctor and a paramedic.</em>”</p>
<p>Regarding the challenges of the terrain, David Rubel noted: “<em>The
    landscape here in Namibia is unforgiving. Whether it's dehydration
    due to the dry climate or potential injuries from falls, we have to
    be prepared for anything.</em>”</p>
<p>With the support of the medical team and resources like satellite
  communication and a well-prepared rescue chain, the GS Trophy
  prioritised the safety of its participants without compromising the
  spirit of adventure.</p>
<p>
  <strong>The BMW R 1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike.<br /></strong>The
  BMW R 1300 GS, the official bike for the competitors, was engineered
  specifically for the rigors of the GS Trophy. Its heart is the new

  performance made it an ideal companion for navigating unpredictable
  terrains and ensuring the smooth running of the event.</p>
<p>Both the BMW R 1300 GS and BMW F 900 GS demonstrated BMW Motorrad’s
  dedication to crafting motorcycles that excel in adventure riding,
  blending cutting-edge technology with the rugged capability needed for
  the world’s most challenging off-road event.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Namibia. “The Land of Many Faces“.<br /></strong>Namibia is a
  country of stunning diversity, both in its landscapes and its people.
  Situated in southwestern Africa, it is bordered by Angola and Zambia
  to the north, Botswana to the east, South Africa to the south, and the
  Atlantic Ocean to the west.</p>
<p>The country is known for its arid climate, being the driest in
  sub-Saharan Africa, and its vast, rugged terrains.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Geography.<br /></strong>Namibia spans an area of about
  825,615 square kilometers, making it one of the largest countries in
  Africa. Its landscapes are dominated by deserts, including the ancient
  Namib Desert along the coast and the vast Kalahari Desert in the east.
  The central plateau, where the capital city Windhoek is located, rises
  to over 1,500 meters above sea level and is bordered by mountain
  ranges such as the Erongo Mountains. Namibia also has significant
  watercourses like the Okavango, Zambezi, and Kwando rivers, which
  carry water from high-rainfall areas in Angola across the Kalahari,
  supporting some of the most biodiverse areas in the country.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Demographics.<br /></strong>Namibia is sparsely populated,
  with a population density of about 3.7 people per square kilometer.
  The population is approximately 2.8 million people as of 2023. It is
  one of the least densely populated countries in the world, with most
  people living in urban centres near major water sources. Windhoek, the
  capital, is the largest city, with a population of around 477,000.</p>
<p>
  <strong>History and Culture.<br /></strong>Namibia has a rich cultural
  heritage influenced by various groups, including the Khoisan, Damara,
  and Nama people, as well as the Bantu-speaking Ovambo and Herero
  people who migrated into the area around the 14th century. The country
  was a German colony in the late 19th century and was later
  administered by South Africa until it gained independence in 1990.
  This colonial history has significantly impacted the country’s
  architecture, language, and cultural institutions.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Landscape.<br /></strong>The Namib Desert, which extends along
  the entire western coast of Namibia, is one of the oldest deserts in
  the world and features iconic landscapes such as the towering sand
  dunes of Sossusvlei. The Etosha Pan, a vast salt pan in the north,
  turns into a shallow lake during the rainy season and supports a
  diverse array of wildlife. In the south, the Fish River Canyon is one
  of the largest canyons in the world, showcasing spectacular geological formations.</p>
<p>Namibia’s unique blend of desert landscapes, towering mountains, and
  vibrant cultures make it a truly remarkable country, offering both the
  harsh beauty of its arid terrains and the resilience of its people.</p>
<p>
  <strong>The Spirit Behind the Ride: Heartwarming Tales from the </strong>
  <strong>GS Trophy.</strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>A Family Affair: Father and Son Make GS Trophy
  History.<br /></strong>In a heartwarming display of the GS Spirit,
    <strong>Andrea Gioia (151)</strong> and his father, <strong>Massimo
    Gioia (152)</strong> of Team Italy, have become the first father and
  son duo to compete together in the GS Trophy. When asked about their
  feelings upon arrival, Massimo shared, “<em>This is a very beautiful
    experience with my son, Andrea.</em>” It's clear that this event is
  not just another competition for them; it's a shared adventure that
  has deepened their bond.</p>
<p>For Andrea, riding alongside his father is something special. “<em>I
    always use a motorbike with my father, but I never did something
    like this with him before,</em>” he said, emphasising the uniqueness
  of participating in such a significant event together.</p>
<p>Their preparation for the GS Trophy was a true family affair. “<em>We
    trained with the enduro motorbike and had some sessions with BMW
    Academy in Italy,</em>” Massimo explained. Being just 40 kilometers
  apart back home allowed them to practice together often.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Riding Through Pain: Anna’s Journey to the GS
  Trophy.<br /></strong>Two months before the GS Trophy, <strong>Anna
    Cárdova (322)</strong> of the Female International Team was thrown
  off her horse, dislocating her shoulder in a painful accident that
  nearly derailed her dreams of competing.</p>
<p>"<em>I had the joint out of the shoulder for almost two hours.
    It was really difficult to get it back, and it was really
  painful,</em>" she shared. Despite the pain, Anna’s resolve never wavered.</p>
<p>Following the accident, she underwent five weeks of rehabilitation.
    “<em>I found an amazing physiotherapist who gave me exercises to fix
    not just the joint but all the muscles around the shoulder.</em>”
  Her dedication to recovery was unwavering, exercising four times a
  day. “<em>It was necessary because I really wanted to be here,</em>”
  she emphasised.</p>
<p>When she finally saw her GS Trophy bike with her name on it, the
  struggle and pain seemed to fade. “<em>The feeling is amazing. It’s
    something exceptional, the only one in the world, and it’s here at
    the GS Trophy,</em>” she said, with a sense of accomplishment.
  Anna’s story is a powerful reminder that with resilience and
  determination, no challenge is insurmountable.</p>
<p>
  <strong>An Amputee’s Triumph: Conquering the GS Trophy Challenge.<br /></strong>
  <strong>Mike Booth</strong>
  <strong>(160),</strong> MRP (Media Related Person) for Team UK, didn’t
  let his prosthetic leg hold him back from experiencing the thrill of
  the GS Trophy. “<em>There’s two ways of looking at an injury,</em>” he
  said. “<em>You either use it as an excuse not to do things, or you use
    it as a reason to just try a bit harder.</em>” With this mindset, he
  faced the same grueling routes as the competitors, covering the sandy
  tracks, rocky canyons, and long, demanding days.</p>
<p>Despite losing his right leg in a severe crash at the Isle of Man TT
  two years ago, Mike chose to push his limits rather than be defined by
  them. “<em>Some days were really hard. The sandy tracks were so
    churned up, I thought if this gets any harder, I might have to throw
    in the towel,</em>” he shared, reflecting on the physical and mental
  challenge of keeping up with the intense pace.</p>
<p>Even in those tough moments, Mike’s determination never wavered.
    “<em>I’m never going to be as good as I was before because my leg
    isn’t going to grow back,</em>” he said, “<em>but if you keep trying
    to get better, stay healthy, and try to be as strong as you possibly
    can, then the only limiting factor is your mindset.</em>”</p>
<p>For Mike, the GS Trophy was more than just a test of endurance; it
  was a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity.
  His journey serves as a powerful reminder to all: “<em>Just get out
    there and do it if you can.</em>”</p>
<p>
  <strong>A New Generation Rises: A Young Competitor's
  Story.<br /></strong>At just 21 years old, <strong>Sardar Shahan Khan</strong>
  <strong>(203)</strong> of Team India is the youngest participant in
  this year’s GS Trophy, embodying both youth and determination.
    “<em>I’ve been off-roading for half of my life,</em>” Shahan proudly
  shared. “<em>I have three GSs at home, and half of their mileage is off-road.</em>”</p>
<p>This was not his first attempt to qualify. Back in 2020, he competed
  in the qualifier of his home country, India, for the GS Trophy but
  couldn’t proceed due to not having a driver’s license. “<em>I was 17
    back then. I got the best time but couldn’t compete because I didn’t
    have my driver’s license yet,</em>” he recalled. As soon as he
  turned 18, Shahan applied for his license the very next day and
  continued to train rigorously. Despite narrowly missing out on a spot
  in the 2022 Trophy, he remained undeterred, training alongside his
  friends and mentors, <strong>Dev Venkatesh (202)</strong> and
    <strong>Anand Dharesan (201)</strong>. His persistence paid off as
  he finally made it to the GS Trophy 2024, not just as a participant
  but as a member of Team India.</p>
<p>For Shahan, the GS Trophy is just the beginning. He plans to take on
  an instructor course and explore rallying professionally. “<em>Maybe
    I’ll be the youngest marshal someday,</em>” he said with a smile.
  It’s clear that for Shahan, this adventure is only the start of a long
  and promising journey.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Behind the Scenes: The Making of the GS Trophy.<br /></strong>
  <strong>Stefanie Grund, Senior Project Manager</strong> for the
  International GS Trophy 2024, shared insights into the complexity of
  organising such a large-scale event. “<em>You can prepare everything
    perfectly but have to be ready for any change,</em>” she stated,
  reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the event planning.</p>
<p>Each GS Trophy comes with unique challenges. “<em>There’s always one
    topic which is especially difficult for the organisation,</em>” she
  mentioned, highlighting the helicopter logistics in Namibia as a major
  issue this year.</p>
<p>Stefanie also explained the extensive permitting process in Namibia:
    “<em>We had to get a lot of permits like drone permits, track
    permits, and work visas for everyone involved.</em>” Support from a
  local film production agency was crucial in navigating these challenges.</p>

  <strong>"The appearance of the new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is
    sure to attract attention. The big GS is not only visually different
    from its almost dainty sister. Never before have seating comfort,
    ergonomics, and wind and weather protection been so harmoniously
    combined with precise handling, exceptional suspension comfort and
    smooth running. The new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has set itself the
    goal of becoming the benchmark for large adventure
  motorcycles.”<br /></strong>Christof Lischka, Head of BMW Motorrad Development<br />
  <br />
  <strong>The new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: When it comes to motorcycle
    adventure and long-distance touring, this is the rock in the surf.
    An almost completely newly designed model with enhanced adventure
    expertise across the board.<br /></strong>Crossing the Sahara in
  searing heat, climbing the Himalayas or exploring the Amazon
  rainforests - for more than two decades the big BMW GS Adventure with
  flat twin boxer engine has been synonymous with such long-distance
  motorcycle journeys with a passenger and lots of luggage. To ensure
  that this remains the case in the future, and to provide adventurous
  motorcyclists with even more adventure expertise, BMW Motorrad has
  almost completely redesigned the engine, chassis, bodywork, design and
  storage concept of the new R 1300 GS Adventure compared to the
  previous model, taking the cornerstones of the BMW GS Adventure to a
  new level.<br />
  <br />The legendary twin-cylinder boxer engine is once again at the
  heart of the new R 1300 GS Adventure. The new design, first introduced
  on the R 1300 GS, is much more compact than its predecessor thanks to
  a transmission located under the engine and a new arrangement of the
  camshaft drive. It generates 107 kW from 1,300 cc at 7,750 rpm.
  Maximum torque is 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This makes it by far the most
  powerful BMW boxer engine ever to be produced in series.<br />
  <br />At the centre of the new suspension is the sheet metal shell
  main frame made of steel, which in addition to being significantly
  optimised in terms of installation space also offers higher levels of
  stiffness than the predecessor model. In place of the previous tubular
  steel construction, the new R 1300 GS Adventure now has an aluminium
  lattice tube rear frame made of aluminium tubes and forged parts. The
  EVO Telelever front wheel guide with flex element and the revised EVO
  Paralever rear wheel guide also provide even greater steering
  precision and riding stability.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) as standard
    equipment ex works, with dynamic adaptation of the damping and
    spring rate, and also load compensation.<br /></strong>The previous
  Dynamic ESA Next Generation electronic suspension itself offered a
  high level of ride safety and riding fun on a wide variety of terrains
  with its dynamic adjustment of the damping and adjustable spring basis
  at the rear. The new electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA)
  now goes one step further, combining the dynamic adjustment of the
  front and rear damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring
  rate (“spring stiffness”) - depending on the selected riding mode,
  riding condition and manoeuvres. The automatic adjustment of the
  spring basis ensures load compensation. This makes for an even more
  thrilling riding experience on all surfaces. Whether solo, with
  passenger or with bulky luggage - DSA ensures an even higher level of
  ride safety, performance and comfort.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Adaptive vehicle height control and adaptive vehicle height
    control comfort with vehicle lowering as optional equipment ex
  works.<br /></strong>The new adaptive vehicle height control and
  vehicle height control comfort are available ex works as optional
  extras for the chassis of the new R 1300 GS Adventure.<br />
  <br />With adaptive vehicle height control, the new R 1300 GS offers
  fully automatic adjustment of the vehicle height to suit the operating
  conditions, ensuring maximum comfort without having to compromise on
  riding dynamics and lean angle freedom. The vehicle height is lowered
  by 30 mm when stationary and at low speeds.<br />
  <br />The new R 1300 GS Adventure can also be fitted with the optional
  adaptive vehicle height control comfort system for smaller riders, or
  for particularly good accessibility and even easier handling. It has
  all the features and functions of the vehicle height control, and a
  standard height that is 20mm lower.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Four riding modes now standard. “Enduro” riding mode for an
    enhanced off-road riding experience.<br /></strong>Even in the
  standard version, the new R 1300 GS Adventure now has four rather than
  three riding modes to suit individual rider preferences. The “Rain”
  and “Road” riding modes allow riding characteristics to be adapted to
  most road conditions. With the “Eco” riding mode it is possible to
  achieve the maximum range on a single tank of fuel, while the
  additional riding mode “Enduro” enables an enhanced riding experience
  off the beaten track with a specific set-up for off-road use.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) for fully automatic clutch
    actuation with manual or automated shifting for even more riding
    enjoyment as optional ex-works equipment.</strong>
  <br />With the new Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), BMW Motorrad
  offers an innovative technical solution to make motorcycling easier
  and more comfortable. True to the motto "Simplify your
  ride", the riding experience is further enhanced by the
  automation of the clutch and gear shift, without sacrificing the
  emotionally important dynamics of the gear change.<br />The Automated
  Shift Assistant (ASA) will also be available as an option on the BMW R
  1300 GS from model year 2025.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Full LED headlights in new matrix design and auxiliary
    headlights as standard. State-of-the-art LED light units all round
    with turn indicators integrated into the hand
  protectors.<br /></strong>BMW Motorrad is regarded as the pioneer par
  excellence when it comes to motorcycling safety and related
  innovations. Accordingly, the new R 1300 GS Adventurer offers a new,
  very small and attractive full LED headlamp with a novel, distinctive
  light icon as standard. The light unit consists of one LED unit for
  low and high beam along with four additional LED units for the daytime
  running light and the side light. The new R 1300 GS Adventure also
  features two extra-flat auxiliary headlamps with LED technology that
  blend harmoniously and safely into the bodywork. This combination
  illuminates the road with unprecedented clarity, thereby ensuring even
  better perception in traffic. State-of-the-art LED light units with
  newly designed LED turn indicators – integrated in the hand protectors
  at the front, function-integrated at the rear – round off the lighting
  concept of the new R 1300 GS derivative.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC), </strong>
  <strong>Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Change Warning for safe
    and convenient motorcycling as optional equipment ex
  works.<br /></strong>The new R 1300 GS Adventure is already equipped
  with Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with braking function as standard.
  The Riding Assistant offers many more functions as an optional extra
  ex works. It consists of the components Active Cruise Control (ACC),
  Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Change Warning.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New aluminium top case and new aluminium cases with integrated
    magnetic couplings as electrical interfaces for USB charging sockets
    and lighting as well as an optional volume extension are available
    as optional equipment ex works.<br /></strong>A robust 37-litre
  aluminium top case and a top case holder with vibration-decoupled top
  case plate, electrical interface for lighting and USB charging socket
  as well as integrated passenger grab handles are available as optional
  accessories for the new R 1300 GS Adventure. The load capacity is up
  to 8 kg.<br />
  <br />The new aluminium cases, each with a load capacity of up to 10
  kg, are also ideal for transporting luggage easily and safely. The
  total capacity is over 73 litres (37 litres left, 36.5 litres right).
  They are simply, quickly and securely attached to the innovative case
  holders made of forged aluminium. The magnetic coupling integrated
  into the left-hand case holder acts as the electrical interface for
  the USB charging socket in the left-hand case. The optional 10-litre
  volume extensions per case provide even more storage space. Made from
  high quality aluminium, they are quick and easy to fit.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>30-litre aluminium fuel tank with clever mounting options and
    rubberised storage area. Effective wind and weather protection with
    windshield and hand protectors with hand protector
  extensions.<br /></strong>The new R 1300 GS Adventure comes with a
  completely new design that sets it even more apart from its sister
  model, the R 1300 GS. A key component of the outer skin in the central
  bodywork area of the new R 1300 GS Adventure is the 30-litre
  sheet-aluminium fuel tank, which is largely uncovered. It was
  particularly important to BMW Motorrad's development engineers that
  the tank, with its large outer skin, also does justice to its
  additional function as a luggage carrier in a special way. That's why
  three fastening elements have been screwed onto the upper tank
  panelling for easy and simple refuelling and quick access to the
  smartphone charging compartment. This clever solution offers
  individual fastening eyelets for items of luggage and at the same time
  provides an articulated mount with snap lock for the 12-litre tank bag
  with waterproof inner bag and outer bags, which is available as an accessory.<br />
  <br />The sheer width of the tank inspires confidence and provides
  effective frontal weather protection. The large windshield, combined
  with the two large transparent wind deflectors, also provides
  effective protection from the wind and weather, making for a uniquely
  quiet and comfortable ride, even on long journeys. Rubberised tank
  trays to the left and right of the upper tank covers are also
  standard. They provide non-slip, secure storage for utensils during stops.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>The new R 1300 GS Adventure: The very highest level of touring
    and off-road expertise in an attractive basic variant along with the
    variants Triple Black, GS Trophy and Option 719
  Karakorum.<br /></strong>Even in its <strong>basic version</strong>,
  the new R 1300 GS Adventure leaves no doubt about its purpose.
  Finished in solid Racing Red, it has an athletic, well-trained look
  that invites you to embark on dedicated motorcycling adventures. The
  silver tank, black and red seats, black handlebars, black rims and red
  hand protector extensions provide a striking contrast.<br />
  <br />In the <strong>Triple Black model variant</strong>, the new R
  1300 GS Adventure shows its elegant face. Accents in perfectly
  coordinated shades of black and the aluminium fuel tank finished in
  high-quality Tinted Clear Coat are the hallmarks of this exceptional
  character. Black elements such as the standard engine protection bar
  with silver inserts, handlebars and wheel rims are combined with grey
  hand protector extensions, large aluminium radiator cowls and
  black/grey heated seats for the traditional Triple Black colour
  scheme. A luggage rack and high windshield with large wind deflectors
  complete the Triple Black look.<br />
  <br />The<strong> GS Trophy model </strong>features a sporty colour
  scheme. Racing Blue metallic paintwork is complemented by eye-catching
  solid Light White and solid Racing Red stripes. Textured powder-coated
  parts in Avus Black matt metallic create exciting contrasts with the
  aluminium parts. Red and black seats and red hand protector extensions
  combine with the stainless steel engine protection bar and black
  cross-spoke wheels to create an attractive colour scheme. Black
  grilles in front of the radiators and auxiliary headlamps provide
  effective stone guard protection. The smaller sport windshield and
  sport grab handles for the passenger further emphasise the GS Trophy's
  sporty character. Large radiator cowls with lashing eyes and aluminium
  fuel tank shelves also provide robust docking points.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Option 719 Karakorum</strong> presents the R 1300 GS Adventure
  in the exclusive colour Aurelius Green matt metallic. Gold-coloured
  lines and the Shadow milled parts package complete the high-quality
  appearance, as does the "Opt. 719" badge on the tank cover.
  Golden anodised components such as the wheel rims and handlebars are
  particularly eye-catching. The standard engine protection bar is
  painted black and the hand protector extensions are grey. In addition
  to the small aluminium radiator cowls and protective grille on the
  auxiliary headlamps, there are two black/grey heated comfort seats, a
  luggage rack and a small sport windshield.<br />
  <br />

  <strong>Munich.</strong> When a total of 22 national teams - including
  six women's and 16 men's teams - with a total of 60 riders compete for
  the coveted trophy at the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2024
  Namibia from 15 to 20 September 2024, they will be able to rely on a
  superior workhorse as they cross Namibia: the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy
  Competition Bike.<br />
  <br />The R 1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike has been developed
  exclusively for this competition, which has been held on the basis of
  the R 1300 GS since 2008 and is equipped for all eventualities thanks
  to special accessories. The large GS with its powerful boxer engine is
  fitted with a handlebar riser, engine protection bar, underride and
  frame guard, adjustable gear and brake levers, GS Vario rider
  footrests, enduro hand levers, headlight protection guard and white
  handguard extensions. The coarse-tread off-road tyres on the black
  cross-spoke wheels and the single seat bench are designed to cope with
  the sometimes difficult terrain of the BMW Motorrad International GS
  Trophy 2024 Namibia.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>With the exception of a few details, the R 1300 GS Trophy
    Competition Bike can be configured on the basis of the R 1300 GS Trophy.</strong>
  <br />Although the BMW Motorrad Competition Bike is not available for
  sale in exactly this form, it is based on the R 1300 GS Trophy model
  variant, with the exception of a few details such as the stickers, the
  large underride guard and the gearshift lever. The basic Racing Blue
  metallic colour says it all: with its red and white stripes and
  lettering, combined with the matt white metallic painted rear frame,
  the R 1300 GS Trophy literally whets the appetite for sporty off-road
  riding - just as the 22 teams will experience on their R 1300 GS
  Trophy Competition Bikes in September.<br />
  <br />In the spirit of high off-road expertise, the Trophy is equipped
  ex works with radiator guards to protect against damage, for example
  from stone chipping. The robust cross-spoke wheels are also part of
  the off-road equipment. They come with black rims as standard and are
  also available in gold as an ex-works option.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>The BMW F 900 GS Trophy Marshal Bike - the sporty, off-road
    BMW GS for the middle range as the vehicle for the GS Trophy Marshal Team.</strong>
  <br />The GS Trophy Marshals, who will guide the participants safely
  through Namibia's challenging terrain, can also rely on a high level
  of off-road expertise. Based on the F 900 GS, the F 900 GS Trophy
  Marshal Bike is BMW Motorrad's premium offering in the mid-range
  touring enduro segment.<br />
  <br />With a full 77 kW of power and a significantly wider range of
  uses thanks to greatly enhanced off-road qualities and a drastic
  weight reduction of 14 kg compared to its predecessor, the sporty
  representative of the GS models in the F Series - like the <br />R
  1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike - also feels at home in Namibia.<br />

  <strong>Munich.</strong> Barely two and a half months after its world
  premiere, the new BMW R 1300 GS proves its outstanding off-road
  expertise and unique robustness in South America. From 6th to 7th
  December 2023, starting from sea level on the Nevado Ojos del Salado -
  at 6,893 metres the highest active volcano in the world - a fleet of
  fully equipped BMW R 1300 GS models managed to reach an altitude of
  more than 6,000 metres in less than 24 hours. The climb, which is very
  difficult for riders, bikes and tyres, culminates in the notorious
  “Rock Channel” on the northern flank of the Nevado Ojos del Salado,
  where the expedition climbed to 6,006 metres in just 19 hours and 22
  minutes to reach a maximum altitude of 6,027 metres.<br />
  <br />The backdrop for the expedition, which represents an extreme
  challenge for man and machine, is the Circuito de los Seis Miles in
  the Atacama Desert in Chile, the highest active volcano chain in the
  world, to which the Nevado Ojos del Salado belongs. The four
  standard BMW R 1300 GS models set off on 6 December at 3.00 pm local
  time from Bahia Inglesa, a town near the port of Caldera on the
  Pacific Ocean in the Atacama region, to climb the Nevado Ojos Del Salado.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>International team of drivers.<br /></strong>The destination
  was finally reached on 7 December at 10.22 am local time. Equipped
  with Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres, the BMW R 1300 GS models started from sea
  level on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, followed by the ascent
  through the Atacama Desert to the Circuito de los Seis Miles and
  finally to the slopes of Nevado Ojos del Salado on the border between
  Argentina and Chile. Riding the BMW R 1300 GS were Christof Lischka,
  BMW Motorrad Development Manager, Salvatore Pennisi, Metzeler Test and
  Technical Director, Michele Pradelli, Italian Extreme Enduro Champion
  and tester for Italian magazine InMoto, and Karsten Schwers, tester
  and journalist for German magazine MOTORRAD.<br />
  <br />A further unique feature of this expedition was the decision to
  undertake it with standard motorcycles and standard tyres. It should
  also be noted that this result was achieved with 19" front
  and 17" rear tyres, showing a new dimension in the world of
  adventure riding.<br />
  <br />Lischka said: “With this extreme ride up to more than 6,000
  metres, the new BMW R 1300 GS has shown what it can do and what it is
  made for. It masters off-road and adventure riding as well as a sporty
  pace on tarmac and long tours. Even in standard trim with off-road
  tyres. It was important for us to emphasise these core competencies of
  the new GS once again with this expedition.”<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Standard BMW R 1300 GS with off-road tyres.<br /></strong>The
  new BMW R 1300 GS is fitted with Metzeler Tourance Next 2 tyres as
  original equipment ex works. For dedicated off-road use, Metzeler
  Karoo 4 tyres are available as an option, and were used on this
  expedition. With the Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres, the BMW R 1300 GS offers
  even better riding characteristics both off-road and on adventure
  tours. The multi-purpose tyres offer exemplary off-road traction and
  can be used on everything from sandy or desert tracks to the deepest
  mud. They also work perfectly on- and off-road with the advanced rider
  assistance systems of the new BMW R 1300 GS.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>A challenge for man and machine.<br /></strong>The climb to
  Nevado Ojos del Salado is an extreme challenge for both man and
  machine. Considerable physical and mental effort is required of the
  expedition participants. After all, the climb is be completed in less
  than 24 hours. In addition, the participants reach an environment
  above 5,000 metres that is very inhospitable to humans. The
  temperatures are very low - around -10 °C during the day and -20 °C at
  night - and the oxygen content is low.<br />
  <br />Long-term preparation and prior acclimatisation to the region
  are therefore essential. In the days leading up to the expedition,
  several base camps were set up at different altitudes and a simulation
  was carried out on Mount Etna in Sicily, the highest active volcano in
  Europe. Specific medical tests and checks at the University of Enna,
  in cooperation with the health authorities of the province of Enna,
  were also part of the preparation of the expedition participants.<br />
  <br />At over 5,000 metres above sea level, the cold and low air
  pressure place particularly high demands on the electronic control of
  the air-fuel mixture of the Boxer engine, but also on all other
  vehicle components of the new BMW R 1300 GS. The chassis and tyres are
  also put to the test by the varied terrain with stony tracks, unpaved
  roads, endless sandy areas and sometimes even ice and snow.<br />
  <br />“I am delighted that we were able to take on this challenge with
  the new R 1300 GS and mastered it with flying colours. On such
  adventurous rides, the new GS has already demonstrated its great
  off-road expertise in standard trim and shown what it can do in
  extreme situations,” concluded Lischka.<br />
  <br />
  <br />

  Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad, the BMW Group is the world’s leading
  premium manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles and also provides
  premium financial and mobility services. The BMW Group production
  network comprises over 30 production sites worldwide; the company has

  unparalleled adventure as the GS Trophy 2024 Qualifier South Africa
  unfolded over three action-packed days from 8 - 12 November 2023.
  Riders from across the country converged to showcase their skills,
  determination and the indomitable spirit of the GS community.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>From the picturesque Aberdeen to the captivating trails of Fullarton,
  participants covered a remarkable 663 km, overcoming challenges that
  tested both man and machine. Broken clutches, damaged motorcycles and
  punctures were mere bumps on the road to triumph, emphasising the
  resilience and camaraderie that define the GS experience.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The event celebrated the pursuit of excellence in riding and fostered
  lasting connections among participants. The #SpiritOfGS was vividly
  displayed as friendships were forged over shared hardships, early
  mornings and late nights.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The grand finale, set against nature's elements, showcased the top
  riders who navigated an intense arena challenge. The results revealed
  Morne van Rooyen, JP Boer and Ruhan de Villiers as the triumphant
  champions who will represent South Africa in the International GS
  Trophy 2024. Additionally, Elizna Weideman and Dianne McLean, the two
  female champions, will compete in a final qualifying round in Spain in January.</p>

  <strong>“With the new BMW R 1300 GS we will once again take the
    competition by surprise. It is defined by an even broader spread of
    product substance, while the reduction in complexity and vehicle
    weight, combined with focused equipment, enable the essence of the
    boxer GS to be showcased even more strikingly. With a new engine,
    outstanding handling and impressive ride qualities, it will set the
    pace both on and off the road.”<br /></strong>Thilo Fuchs, Head of
  Water-cooled Boxer Models.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>The new BMW R 1300 GS: “Next level GS” featuring new </strong>
  <strong>boxer engine and new suspension, with significantly reduced
    weight and increased GS competence all round.<br /></strong>BMW
  Motorrad established the new segment of touring enduros more than four
  decades ago with the R 80 G/S. The BMW GS with boxer engine has been
  the undisputed leader of the competitive field ever since. To ensure
  this remains the case in the future, BMW Motorrad has opted for an
  almost completely new design for the new R 1300 GS, with an impressive
  weight saving of 12 kg compared to the previous model.<br />
  <br />The centrepiece is once again the legendary two-cylinder boxer
  engine. Its new design is more compact than ever before thanks to a
  gearbox located under the engine and a new camshaft drive arrangement.
  From exactly 1 300 cc it produces an output of 107 kW at 7 750 rpm,
  developing maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6 500 rpm. This makes it by far
  the most powerful BMW boxer engine yet to be produced in series.<br />
  <br />At the centre of the new suspension is the sheet metal shell
  main frame made of steel, which in addition to being significantly
  optimised in terms of installation space also offers higher levels of
  stiffness than the predecessor model. For the rear frame, the previous
  tubular steel structure has now been replaced with a die-cast
  aluminium construction. The new EVO Telelever front wheel guide with
  flex element and the revised EVO Paralever rear wheel guide also
  provide even greater steering precision and ride stability.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>New electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) as optional
    equipment ex works, with dynamic adaptation of the damping and
    spring rate, and also load compensation.<br /></strong>The previous
  Dynamic ESA Next Generation electronic suspension itself provided a
  high level of ride safety and riding fun on a wide variety of terrains
  with its dynamic adjustment of the damping and adjustable spring rest
  at the rear. The new electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA)
  now goes one step further, combining the dynamic adjustment of the
  front and rear damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring
  rate (“spring stiffness”) – depending on the selected riding mode,
  riding condition and manoeuvres. The automatic adjustment of the
  spring rest ensures load compensation. This makes for an even more
  thrilling riding experience on all surfaces. Whether solo, in pairs or
  with bulky luggage – DSA ensures an even higher level of ride safety,
  performance and comfort.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Adaptive vehicle height control and sports suspension as
    optional equipment ex works.<br /></strong>Exclusively in
  conjunction with DSA as optional equipment ex works, two further items
  of optional equipment are available for the suspension of the new R
  1300 GS: the new adaptive vehicle height control and the sports suspension.<br />
  <br />With adaptive vehicle height control, the new R 1300 GS offers
  fully automatic adjustment of the vehicle height depending on the
  operating condition, thereby ensuring the greatest possible comfort
  without having to compromise on riding dynamics and banking freedom.<br />
  <br />With 20 mm more spring travel at the front and rear and an
  optional athletically firm sports suspension specially developed for
  the GS, off-road riders are well catered for here.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Four riding modes now standard. “Enduro” riding mode for an
    enhanced off-road riding experience.<br /></strong>Even in standard
  trim, the new R 1300 GS now has four rather than three riding modes
  for adaptation to individual rider preferences. The “Rain” and “Road”
  riding modes allow riding characteristics to be adapted to most road
  conditions. With the “Eco” riding mode it is possible to achieve the
  maximum range on a single tank of fuel, while the additional riding
  mode “Enduro” enables an enhanced riding experience off the beaten
  track with a specific set-up for off-road use.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Matrix LED headlamps with innovative design as standard,
    state-of-the-art LED light units all round with turn indicators
    integrated in the hand protectors and Headlight Pro as optional
    equipment ex works.<br /></strong>BMW Motorrad is regarded as the
  pioneer par excellence when it comes to motorcycling safety and
  related innovations. Accordingly, the new R 1300 GS offers a new, very
  small full LED headlamp with a novel, distinctive light icon as
  standard. This illuminates the road with a hitherto unrivalled
  clarity, thereby ensuring even better perception in traffic. The light
  unit consists of two LED units for low and high beam along with four
  additional LED units for the daytime running light and the side light.
  State-of-the-art LED light units with newly designed LED turn
  indicators – integrated in the hand protectors at the front,
  function-integrated at the rear – round off the lighting concept of
  the new R 1300 GS. With the optional equipment item “Headlight Pro”,
  the beam of the standard full LED headlamp turns into the bend
  according to the banking position. In this way, the bend is almost
  fully illuminated because the light moves to where the motorcycle is heading.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front
    Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Change Warning (SWW) for safe and
    convenient motorcycling.<br /></strong>The new BMW R 1300 GS
  features the new Riding Assistant option, consisting of the components
  Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane
  Change Warning (SWW). Active Cruise Control (ACC) with integrated
  distance control can be used to set the desired riding speed as well
  as the distance to the vehicle in front. Front Collision Warning (FCW)
  with brake intervention is designed to prevent collisions and help
  reduce the severity of accidents, while Lane Change Warning monitors
  the lanes to the left and right and can help ensure a safe lane change
  while supporting use of the rear mirror.<br />
  <br />
  <strong>The new R 1300 GS: the very highest level of touring and
    off-road expertise in an attractive basic variant along with the
    variants Triple Black, GS Trophy and Option 719
  Tramuntana.<br /></strong>The new R 1300 GS features an entirely new
  design that is based on the traditional GS flyline while at the same
  time reflecting extreme compactness and significant weight reduction.
  With its significantly flatter tank ramp, the flyline is largely
  responsible for the very dynamic, light and accessible appearance of
  the new R 1300 GS. Continuing on through the upholstered centre cover
  over the aluminium fuel tank, the seat gives the GS a typically
  enduro-style silhouette.<br />
  <br />With a new aluminium fuel tank that has a much flatter ramp than
  on the predecessor models, the flyline is largely responsible for the
  very dynamic, light and accessible appearance of the new R 1300 GS.
  Here it was also possible to add a very sporty and dynamic
  accentuation by means of the continuous texture in the fuel tank
  centre cover.<br />
  <br />The basic variant of the new BMW R 1300 GS perfectly embodies
  what the BMW Motorrad development team has endowed the GS legend with:
  compact arrangement of the components, high functionality of the
  equipment – and everything focused on the essentials. In Lightwhite
  solid paint and in conjunction with its sharply drawn lines and very
  clean appearance, the new R 1300 GS has a muscular appearance and
  embodies the boxer GS theme in pristine style.<br />
  <br />TripleBlack is a model variant of the boxer GS that has been
  popular for many years. In this colour scheme, the new BMW R 1300 GS
  has a masculine attitude combined with exclusive surfaces.<br />
  <br />The basic finish Racingblue metallic sets the tone for the model
  variant GS Trophy. With red and white tapes and inscriptions combined
  with a rear frame coated in white metallic matt, the GS Trophy stands
  for the very highest level of performance and sporty off-road riding.<br />
  <br />The new R 1300 GS shows its exclusive and technically
  sophisticated side in the model variant Option 719 Tramuntana. This
  combines cross-spoke wheels in gold with a high-quality paint finish
  in Aurelius Green metallic and sophisticated milled aluminium parts.<br />
  <br />

  <strong>The new BMW R 1250 GS and R 1250 RT – the fascination of
    travel and touring in a new dimension of engine power.</strong></p>
<p>For more than 35 years, the flat-twin boxer engine in the
  BMW Motorrad GS and RT models has stood for distinctive, powerful and
  reliable propulsion when it comes to setting off on an extended tour
  or a long-distance journey – or simply enjoying the satisfying
  pleasure of a short weekend trip. For more than 25 years, BMW Motorrad
  has used 4-valve technology, combined with electronic fuel injection
  and closed-loop catalytic converter technology in order to achieve the
  best possible power and torque delivery, efficiency and environmental compatibility.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Further advanced boxer engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology for
    an additional increase in power across the entire engine speed
    range, reduced emission and fuel consumption levels, optimised
    running smoothness and refinement.</strong></p>
<p>With the extensively further advanced boxer engine, the new R 1250 GS
  and R 1250 RT not only achieve a whole new level of power and torque.
  It was also possible to significantly optimise refinement and running
  smoothness – especially within the lower engine speed range. What is
  more, the new engine offers improved emission and fuel consumption
  levels as well as a particularly satisfying sound. For this purpose,
  BMW ShiftCam Technology has been used for the first time in the serial
  production of BMW Motorrad engines: this enables variation of the
  valve timings and valve stroke on the intake side. In addition, the
  intake camshafts are designed for asynchronous opening of the two
  intake valves, resulting in enhanced swirl of the fresh, incoming
  mixture and therefore more effective combustion. Other technical
  changes to the engine relate to the camshaft drive – now taken care of
  by a toothed chain (previously a roller chain) – an optimised oil
  supply, twin-jet injection valves and a new exhaust system.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Two riding modes, ASC and Hill Start Control as standard.</strong></p>
<p>There are two riding modes available as standard in order to be able
  to adapt the motorcycle to individual rider preferences. The standard
  Automatic Stability Control ASC ensures a high level of riding safety
  due to the best possible traction. The set-off assistant Hill Start
  Control is likewise a standard feature in both models, enabling
  convenient set-off on slopes.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Riding Modes Pro, featuring additional riding modes, Dynamic
    Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro and Dynamic
    Brake Assistant DBC (new), available as an optional equipment item
    ex works.</strong></p>
<p>The option "Riding Modes Pro" is now available as an
  optional equipment item, featuring the additional riding mode
  "Dynamic", Dynamic Traction Control DTC, and in the R 1250
  GS also the riding modes "Dynamic Pro", "Enduro"
  and "Enduro Pro". DTC enables even more efficient and safe
  acceleration, especially in banking position. ABS Pro (part of Riding
  Modes Pro in the R 1250 GS, a standard feature in the R 1250 RT)
  offers even greater safety when braking, even in banking position. The
  new Dynamic Brake Control DBC provides additional safety when braking,
  also in difficult situations, by avoiding unintentional accelerator
  activation. By means of intervention in the engine control, drive
  torque is reduced during braking so as to make full use of the braking
  power at the rear wheel. This keeps the motorcycle stable and shortens
  the braking distance.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Electronic suspension Dynamic ESA "Next Generation"
    with fully automatic load compensation, now also for the R 1250 RT.</strong></p>
<p>With the optional equipment item BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA “Next
  Generation”, damping automatically adapts to the situation according
  to riding state and manoeuvres, and there is also automatic
  compensation in all load states. This allows finely tuned adaptation
  of the motorcycle to riding states, achieving optimum damping comfort
  and a very stable ride response – this is now also available for the R
  1250 RT.</p>
<p>
  <strong>LED headlamp for the R 1250 GS as standard and LED daytime
    riding light for both models as an ex works optional equipment item.</strong></p>
<p>The new R 1250 GS now features the LED headlamp as standard. In
  addition to this, the LED daytime riding light is available as an
  optional equipment item for both the R 1250 GS and the R 1250 RT,
  which has halogen headlamps.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Connectivity: multifunctional instrument cluster with 6.5-inch
    full-colour TFT screen and numerous features as standard in the </strong>
  <br />
  <strong>R 1250 GS.</strong></p>
<p>The new R 1250 GS now has the equipment feature Connectivity as
  standard including a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. In conjunction
  with the standard BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller, this means the rider
  can access vehicle and connectivity functions particularly swiftly and conveniently.</p>
<p>The R 1250 RT is fitted with a large 5.7-inch TFT colour screen. This
  is supplemented with an analog speedometer and rev counter.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Intelligent Emergency Call as an ex works option.</strong></p>
<p>Ensuring the fastest possible assistance in the event of an accident
  or in situations of emergency and danger can save people’s lives. The
  optional equipment item Intelligent Emergency Call summons assistance
  to the scene as quickly as possible. As before, this feature can be
  ordered for both models.</p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW Motorrad Spezial – high-quality customisation features as
    optional equipment items ex works.</strong></p>
<p>BMW Motorrad Spezial offers a range of iconic customisation features
  that enhance both performance and value, available as optional
  equipment items ex works. The focus is on harmonious integration in
  the vehicle as a whole, use of the very highest-quality materials,
  elaborate manual workmanship and characteristic attention to detail.</p>
<p>The Billets Packs Option 719 Classic and HP are available for the new
  R 1250 GS and R 1250 RT, for example.</p>
<p>The new R 1250 RT can be additionally enhanced with Option 719 wheels
  Classic or Sport, an exclusive seat and one of two Spezial paint finishes.</p>
<p>An HP sports silencer is likewise available ex works for the two new
  boxer models.</p>
<p>
  <strong>New attractive colours and style variants.</strong></p>
<p>The new R 1250 GS showcases its travel and off-road prowess in two
  modern basic finishes and two striking style variants. The new
  R 1250 RT embodies its exclusive touring character in one basic
  colour, two style variants and two Option 719 Spezial finishes.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>

  <strong>NEW EVENT IMAGES</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new BMW R 1200 GS <span>– </span>even more supreme on all terrain
  types. “BMW GS” has stood for universal motorcycling pleasure for more
  than 35 years: “GS” embodies the ideal combination of touring and long
  distance suitability, dynamic performance and off-road capability.
  This applies especially to the BMW GS motorcycles with a flat-twin
  boxer engine. They are the perfect companions in extreme conditions
  when it comes to exploring the most remote corners of the earth.</p>
<p>The unique overall concept of the R 1200 GS with its down-to-earth
  character and powerful high-torque engine thrills a large number of
  motorcycle fans all over the world. It is not for nothing that this
  motorcycle has dominated its market segment for many years and is the
  top-seller within the BMW Motorrad model range. With the new
  R 1200 GS, BMW Motorrad expands the GS portfolio not only in the form
  of additional product optimisations but also by means of further
  potential broadening of the motorcycle’s properties. For the first
  time, customers can give a BMW GS a more marked touch of enduro or
  distinguished style to suit its preferred area of use by ordering the
  style packages Rallye and Exclusive.</p>
<p>The most popular travel enduro bike in the world, the R 1200 GS has
  now been optimised in a wide range of areas. Designed for even greater
  versatility than before, it taps into a previously unknown breadth of
  properties, ranging from dynamic performance to comfort and off-road
  suitability. This is due to selective improvements, numerous new
  features and not least a much-expanded program of optional equipment
  and optional accessories.</p>
<p>Boxer engine with new catalytic converter and adapted data status in
  line with EU4 requirements. Powered as before by the air/liquid-cooled
  boxer with an output of 92 kW at 7 750 rpm and a maximum torque of
  125 Nm at 6 500 rpm, the new R 1200 GS now has an altered catalytic
  converter and a new data status for the engine management to meet the
  latest EU4 requirements. Model year 2017 already saw the addition of a
  judder damper on the transmission output shaft and a revision of the
  selector drum actuator and transmission shafts.</p>
<p>Riding Modes Pro with dynamic traction control DTC and new Hill Start
  Control. For individual adaptation to rider preferences, the new
  R 1200 GS offers the two riding modes “Rain” and “Road” as standard in
  conjunction with Automatic Stability Control (ASC) for optimum
  traction. In addition the new R 1200 GS also comes with “Riding Modes
  Pro” featuring the additional riding modes “Dynamic” and “Dynamic
  Pro”, “Enduro” and “Enduro Pro” as well Dynamic Traction Control
  (DTC), which enables even more efficient and safe acceleration
  especially in banking position.</p>
<p>The riding modes “Dynamic Pro” and “Enduro Pro”, activated by means
  of a coded plug, also offer customisation options which allow the
  character of the motorcycle to be adapted. Other elements of “Riding
  Modes Pro” are the new set-off assistant Hill Start Control for
  convenient hill starts, ABS Pro for even greater safety when braking,
  even in banking position, and the dynamic brake light which is even
  more effective in drawing attention to the fact that the motorcycle is braking.</p>
<p>Electronic suspension Dynamic ESA <span>“</span>Next
    Generation<span>” </span>with fully automatic self-levelling
  suspension function. A whole new dimension of riding safety,
  performance and comfort is harnessed with the optional BMW Motorrad
  Dynamic “Next Generation” Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA):
  here, the damping automatically adapts to the situation depending on
  riding condition and manoeuvres, and there is also an automatic
  self-levelling function to compensate all load states.</p>
<p>Tight sports suspension for off-road enthusiasts as an optional extra
  for the R 1200 GS Rallye. The Rallye package available ex works allows
  the new R 1200 GS to be optimised for more ambitious off-road use.
  Off-road performance is significantly increased due to an increased
  spring rate (“harder suspension”), longer spring struts and extended
  spring travel.</p>
<p>New paint finishes and styling in three attractive variants. While
  the underlying design architecture of the R 1200 GS has been preserved
  in the new version, optimised ergonomics in the knee area ensure
  further improved off-road qualities, while more pointed contrasts, new
  paint finishes and the two optional equipment packages Rallye and
  Exclusive emphasise the distinctive talents of the R 1200 GS in its
  differing forms. Details have been optimised on the front mudguard and
  at the centre of the front wheel cover, while small slipstream
  deflectors known as winglets add a touch of aerodynamic perfection.
  The trim of the air intake and the side fuel tank trim panels have
  been newly designed, too. New styling has now also been applied to the
  cooling air ducts and radiator trim elements, which either feature a
  galvanised surface or are made of stainless steel (Rallye and Exclusive).</p>
<p>The off-road character of the new R 1200 GS is particularly
  emphasised in the Rallye version. The paintwork in Lupine Blue
  metallic, the over-painted deco elements on the fuel tank sides in BMW
  Motorsport colours and the frame in Cordoba Blue go together with the
  black drivetrain to create the sportiest series production GS of all time.</p>
<p>The sheer presence of the R 1200 GS Exclusive is underscored by means
  of fuel tank side trim panels in Monolith metallic matt with clear
  over-painted deco elements, a front wheel splash guard and central
  fuel tank cover in Iced Chocolate metallic and a frame finished in
  Agate Grey metallic matt. The black drivetrain and the gold-finished
  brake calipers lend a refined contrast here.</p>

  <strong>
    <span>Munich.</span></strong> The fifth BMW Motorrad International
  GS Trophy, the 2016 Southeast Asia edition came to a close, after
  seven hard days’ riding, with a spectacular finale on Saturday, March
  5. With the competition still in the balance right up to the final
  special test, it was a tense finish – decided in favour of Team South
  Africa who kept their nerve to secure the nation’s first victory in
  the event after twice placing runner-up. Let´s have a look back on a
  week packed with high temperatures, offroad riding, friendly people
  and adventures in the jungle.</p>
<p>The fifth edition brought together 19 teams (comprising 57 riders
  plus 19 embedded journalists) representing 25 nations for a seven-day
  over-1300 kilometre trek through the forests, jungles and mountains of
  Northern Thailand. The riding was possibly the most technical yet, as
  the riders guided their <br />BMW R 1200 GS bikes along single-track
  trails more akin to enduro racing than adventure competition.
  Temperatures matched those of the South African edition in 2010 –
  running into the high 30ºC range – and with high humidity it was one
  of the hotter, sweatier GS Trophies!</p>
<p>The start came at the Rim Doi Resort, in Chiang Dao at 8.00am on the
  morning of February 28, and while unseasonal heavy rain had washed out
  the planned course for day one, the riders were still treated to some
  excellent off-road trails before hitting the first – and possibly
  physically the toughest – special test, ‘Broken Bridge’. Such themes
  are by now familiar, long days in the saddle with always some
  challenging riding, combined with special tests that challenge the
  riders’ teamwork, their problem solving skills, often their strength,
  as well as their bike riding. As ever, the riders would reach the
  nightly bivouacs well-exercised.</p>
<p>The 2016 edition again saw the event grow, with 114 motorcycles on
  the tour and an entourage of close to 200 people (riders, marshals,
  medics, caterers, organisers and more). As ever, the motorcycles – BMW
  R 1200 GS and GSA – were up to the task; occasional puncture repairs
  on the trail tested the practical skills of the riders while crash
  damage gave the BMW Motorrad mechanics a few hours work each evening;
  but the engines and chassis never gave up. The latest GS bikes were
  praised for their ease of use, great rider aids and sheer ruggedness.
  As before, the competitors were won-over by the bike’s character as
  much as the sheer capability of these iconic machines.  </p>
<p>
  <strong>Team South Africa wins.</strong></p>
<p>Team South Africa has been one of the strongest teams in every
  edition of the GS Trophy since their debut in 2010. They missed out on
  the win then, by just one point, and came close again in 2014, so the
  win this year was especially savoured. Thorough preparation meant the
  team were always in contention – they were in fact the team to beat –
  but John Harris, Charl Moolman and Byron Coetsee were winners on every
  level, winning as many friends as points.</p>
<p>Team UK and Team Germany were their nearest competitors and the
  unrelenting efforts of the two teams kept the outcome of the event in
  question right up to the very last test. And while the strength of
  Team South Africa could not be denied, it was fitting that the
  runner-up position should be shared by these two great teams (Team UK
  having won in 2010, Team Germany in 2012).</p>
<p>Three new teams took part in 2016. Team China made an impact right
  from the start, having given up their international air flights and
  instead choosing to ride to the event on their own GSs! Four days in
  the saddle saw them ride up to the Shang-ri La Hotel in Chiang Mai for
  the official opening – along with some 60 supporters, most also
  BMW-mounted. They made quite probably the most impressive entrance to
  the event yet. And Team China proved a competitive team, too, strong
  and well-practiced they took an impressive 7th place on their debut.</p>
<p>Team Southeast Asia might have been less successful, but nonetheless
  brought much colour to the event, good humour, and found they enjoyed
  their ‘home’ course as much as the visitors.</p>
<p>The third new team were the International Female Team. Easily the
  most popular team in the event, Stéphanie Bouisson (France), Morag
  Campbell (South Africa) and Amy Harburg (Australia) showed
  bike-handling skills equal to the men (in fact sometimes superior).
  They would have finished higher if they hadn’t been so punished by the
  strength-based tests, but as Amy reported, they were never defeated –
  not even in lifting the 238kg GS over a 1.5-metre tree trunk – it just
  took a little more time for them than for the men. The team was much
  welcomed by the men, and cheered-on all the way, but again as the
  girls explained, this was the same for all teams – every team supports
  everyone. It’s truly a band of brothers – and sisters.</p>
<p>At the finish, Team South Africa’s Byron Coetsee spoke for his
  teammates about their win:</p>
<p>“Relief is the first emotion, then happiness. With South Africa’s
  record in the event – we’ve come second twice, even losing by just one
  point – then to finish like this is like the weight of the world has
  been lifted from our shoulders. We share this moment with Roger,
  Gerber, Warren and all the previous team members from South Africa!”</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>The BMW R 1200 GS - competition proven.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW R 1200 GS proved more than up to the challenge of seven days
  on the trails in Northern Thailand. The 2016 R 1200 GSs featured the
  latest engine revisions, including a new heavier crank that makes for
  smoother running and Shift Assist Pro that allows clutchless up- and
  down-shifts. As well the riders had the code plug that enables the
  Enduro Pro mode to modify the rider-assist systems to suit sportive
  off-road riding. And with just the lightest level of crash protection,
  including the aluminium enduro engine guard and steel crash bars –
  plus the rugged Metzeler Karoo 2 tyres – the GSs were totally trail-ready.</p>
<p>The feedback from the riders was uniformly positive, most expressing
  delight in the ease of handling the bikes, their tough resistance to
  extreme riding, and engaging character.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Here’s what a few of the riders thought of the bikes:</p>
<p>Morag Campbell: “I loved the bike, the torque, the instant reaction,
  the maneuverability, especially the attitude! And so fast! I rode mine
  in Enduro Pro without traction control and ABS – and still it was so
  easy to ride. I love it, for all of us, every time and everyday it’s
  the best bike!”</p>
<p>Francesco Catanese: “The BMW is a surprise, because in my imagination
  it was a big bad bike, but on enduro tracks, in the sand and the dust,
  the bike was completely perfect, no odd sounds, no mechanical problem,
  for me it was a surprise. Much power, perfect bike!”</p>
<p>Anton Vlasov: “I have ridden this bike several times, but I should
  say that this bike is great, I found out so many things about the
  handling, the engine, everything. This event shows us everything about
  this bike, it’ll ride highway, then singletrack trail in the
  mountains, then you can ride relaxed with your friends. The event
  showed this perfectly!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>The GS Trophy in their words</strong></p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>St</strong>
  <strong>é</strong>
  <strong>phanie Bouisson, Morag Campbell & Amy Harburg /
    International Female Team</strong></p>
<p>Amy: “I loved it, it was definitely tough and some of the tests for
  us were really physical, but we got through them, only maybe not quite
  as quick as the men. But it was so much fun, so I loved the whole event.”</p>
<p>Morag: “It’s beautiful, the local people we met are extremely
  friendly, and curious, and open to us, and wanting to engage and
  that’s really nice. From the physical viewpoint the scenery is
  stunning, it changes all the time, forest, mountains, rivers. I’ve
  enjoyed every bit of it. And the food has been great, too!”</p>
<p>Stéphanie: “The country is amazing. I’ve been travelling in Chile, in
  Morocco, in Europe. Here it’s very different, the scenery, the people,
  it feels very safe and gentle. The people are everything. Amazing.
  What can I say? Peace and love!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>Alfred Scheurer / Team Alps</strong></p>
<p>“The country was very nice, we appreciated riding the small trails
  and being among the flora – banana trees, bamboo, palms – it was very
  nice. We had a good time, we made some mistakes when we were very
  nervous at the beginning and we didn’t work together as well as we’d
  have liked!</p>
<p>“All the same, in all it was a very nice experience. Normally I ride
  alone, but to work as a team in this, that’s very nice, it was a very
  special experience.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Gast</strong>
  <strong>ó</strong>
  <strong>n Quiroga / Team Argentina</strong></p>
<p>“It’s been a great week, we’ve enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the
  people and seeing so many things – elephants one day, water buffalo
  the next. And all these things wrapped around the most incredible
  riding, and the friendships that you make in the GS Trophy. It is an
  amazing experience. Everyday has been so big in experiences, it will
  take some time to remember them all. It is very special.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Fernando Deneka / Team Brazil</strong></p>
<p>“Everything is beautiful. It’s the dream to get to ride a bike like
  this for seven days. Team Brazil hasn’t done so well in the event, but
  our presence is very beautiful. Thailand is beautiful, the people here
  are beautiful, and the motorcycle the R 1200 GS, is spectacular.</p>
<p>The experience in my life, it is incredible.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Cory Villeneuve, Danick Cyr & Scott McDonald / Team Canada</strong></p>
<p>Cory: “It was pretty amazing, we had a good time it was a lot of fun.
  I think it surpassed all expectations.”</p>
<p>Danick: “It was a tough competition, but really-really great, nice
  country, nice people. And great competitors from 25 countries.”</p>
<p>Scott: “We loved the single track, we don’t ride single track so much
  and the concentration level that you have to apply is way more: 100%
  all the time. You make one mistake and you’re going to get hurt. And
  it’s not for just five minutes, it’s for a long time – hours! You’ll
  be thinking I can’t do this any longer, my brain can’t concentrate
  this hard for this long, I’m going to make a mistake. And then once
  you get out of it, you’re like, ‘Wow, I did it!’”</p>
<p>Cory: Everything is perfect, everything is beautiful here, BMW
  Motorrad have done a great job this week and I’ve really enjoyed the
  GS Trophy, I’m very thankful, it’s been amazing.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Jan Zlabek / Team CEEU</strong></p>
<p>“We had a lot of fun, riding a lot of fun tracks, with a lot of
  challenges, everything went alright, except for a few accidents,
  including mine on tarmac – my own fault as I’d turned the traction
  control off!</p>
<p>“We enjoyed Thailand a lot, the views, the people, but this was no
  tourist trail; we were riding and riding and riding, and the evenings
  were busy with planning, meetings, eating, results, so you don’t have
  so much spare time during the GS Trophy, it’s all go.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Wen-Gao Liang / Team China</strong></p>
<p>“We have enjoyed the GS Trophy very much. I’ve personally owned a GS
  since 2006, so this is a wonderful celebration of the past ten years
  for me; I knew I must come to this event. With all the riders from
  around the world, it’s so special; it’s every GS rider’s dream.</p>
<p>“As a team, we chose to ride here, rather than fly, it was four days
  to get here, but that helped unify us before we started. We love
  Thailand as well, all the people are smiling, the people in China call
  Thailand ‘the smiling country’, it’s a special place.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Se</strong>
  <strong>bastien Saphores & Marc-Antoine Peltriaux / Team France</strong></p>
<p>Sébastien: “It’s a beautiful experience, the temperature was very
  high but it’s been beautiful, very nice. The third day may have been
  the best, just 160km but to ride crossing the river back and forth is
  so beautiful, we can’t do this in our country, it is forbidden.”</p>
<p>Marc-Antoine: “We are a happy team, no problems, all is perfect.
  Laurent, our journalist, is a crazy but beautiful guy and the movies
  he makes are very important to us because it’s wonderful for our
  families to see what we have been doing here, it’s life and so
  beautiful, but it’s a hard job for him, because even after one day he
  has so much work to do. ‘Lolo’ is our hero!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Peter Kopf & Steffen Rahn / Team Germany</strong></p>
<p>Peter: “We enjoyed the week, everything was good, we were definitely
  in it for the competition. Most times we did well, our teamwork got
  the results. We tried to win, but didn’t. But we knew also that this
  is an event that comes once in your lifetime, if you are lucky, so
  there’s so much more to it than just whether you win, to be in the
  event is the main thing – the best feeling!</p>
<p>Steffen: “Thailand is the perfect country for enduro riding and for
  the GS Trophy. The highlights for us were riding the difficult stages,
  the Hò Chi Minh Path, the Helicopter Trail, the loop around Mae
  Sariang – tough riding is the highlight!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Francesco Catanese / Team Italy</strong></p>
<p>“It’s been a strange week for us in the competition. We are all
  enduro and motocross riders, so this has been different to our usual
  riding, when we are racing. We thought we’d do better, but in fact
  ‘gas’ is just a little part of the competition. If we’d known this was
  the way we’d have done more specific training, but still it’s a
  wonderful experience.</p>
<p>“And we loved the country, the jungle, the forest, the mountains – an
  amazing experience. In so many ways, perfect.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Tsutomu Morohara / Team Japan</strong></p>
<p>“I think Team Japan got most enjoyment from the GS Trophy. We came
  not for a good time, but for the best time. For me, definitely this
  has been the best time in my life!</p>
<p>“We’ve enjoyed Thailand, it is very good, sometimes like Japan in
  summer, more excellent tracks though – good people, good culture. And
  we’ve had good guys for company.</p>
<p>“In Japan we have many manufacturers, but they only make motorcycles
  – BMW Motorrad make motorcycles and culture. Especially in the GS
  Trophy – the best of culture. To participate in the GS Trophy, this
  has been my dream and it has come true!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Felipe Horta / Team Latin America</strong></p>
<p>“For us it’s been an amazing experience, the Latin American team is
  from different countries: two guys from Columbia, one guy from
  Guatemala and me from Chile. It was a first time for us to ride
  together, so from the competition perspective it is difficult because
  the event is extreme and emotional and we are not as prepared, we
  haven’t practiced the teamwork, as have the other teams. But our guys
  are very good people, very quiet but happy every day. And whether, in
  the competition, it was good news or bad for us, we were every day
  very happy.</p>
<p>“Our appreciation is the event is a very-very nice idea, for the
  marketing for BMW surely, but it’s also very close, very warming, for
  the riders it’s an amazing experience.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Jorge Marroquin Bascos & Leoncio Reynoso Sosa / Team Mexico</strong></p>
<p>Jorge: “This has been an excellent event, I’m proud to be here, I’ll
  never forget this GS Trophy in my life, I’ve meant so many guys from
  all over the world and we hope to be in touch with them, everything
  was perfect.</p>
<p>Leoncio: “I saw elephants, that was amazing day, but every day the
  nature was very good, it was a very amazing event with BMW. I am just
  18 years old but this will be a memory for the rest of my life. If I
  could, I would do it all over again.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Anton Vlasov & Ivan Chekov / Team Russia</strong></p>
<p>Anton: “That was fun, definitely. Our expectations were to have fun
  within our team then make new friends in the other teams, to have a
  nice experience in Thailand. It measured up, it was hot, it was fun,
  at times quite hard. Maybe for the first few days we had a strong
  feeling that we wanted to compete, but then over the last few days we
  realised that the important thing was to have fun, so then we let it
  go, it was time to have fun.”</p>
<p>Ivan: “The strongest memory – perhaps of day six on the Hò Chi Minh
  Path, that was tough but we made it as a team, helping each other. It
  was a really good experience.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Byron Coetsee & John Harris / Team South Africa</strong></p>
<p>Byron: “It’s definitely a close call for me, between wanting to do
  well in the competition and enjoying the experience. So between the
  special stages I ran my GoPro a lot, because you’re concentrating on
  the road, thinking about what’s going on and so you miss the insane
  scenery that’s about you. So I ran the Go Pro, so I can watch back
  again later, and I tried to look at everything, as much as possible.”</p>
<p>John: “I have to agree with Byron, I’d see the Japanese team and
  they’d be running last or second last but we are actually jealous of
  them. We rode with them and their spirit, the fun they had, in terms
  of getting the most out of the trip, those are the guys who are the
  real winners, they’ve had the best time ever. I envy them for that!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Tommy Lee Boon Jun / Team Southeast Asia</strong></p>
<p>“We are enjoying the GS Trophy maybe a little bit too much! We were
  very serious initially, but we made lots of mistakes, so after that we
  just wanted to enjoy the event. It’s been great to meet similarly
  minded people and with the riding skills so similar it makes for
  really enjoyable riding. We’ve had a wonderful time.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Du-Yeol Choi / Team South Korea</strong></p>
<p>“Thailand is a very good place, everybody is so very friendly and
  always smiling. And Thai and Korean mountains – and many places – look
  the same, very similar, so we are very happy here, we enjoyed the
  riding and felt comfortable and safe.</p>
<p>“We had many special experiences, and many funny ones. We loved the
  slow race, we’d practiced it often in Korea, but then when it came to
  the race here we were so nervous we were all finished in 30 seconds!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>James Berrill, Oliver Twigg & Gordon Blackley / Team UK</strong></p>
<p>James: “It’s been better than I expected by far, it’s not just the
  competition. The trail riding and the scenery has been amazing, the
  competitors, everyone, even the journalists and the story tellers!”</p>
<p>Gordon: “The feeling after the first two days was amazing. We were
  just buzzing. The trail riding up the mountains was really good fun,
  we enjoyed the views, enjoyed riding in the jungle. And the fact you
  get to ride with different teams each day is great, you don’t become
  insular, you get to know everyone.”</p>
<p>Oliver: “There’s real camaraderie, some banter, but competition as
  well. Riding with the Germans we had a puncture but they fixed it. We
  could have fixed it but they insisted on fixing it for us. It’s that
  balance that the event seems to have. But there’s still that edge –
  I’ll help you but I really want to beat you! Oh, and it’s been my
  first time camping. I hadn’t even thought about it, but the cold
  showers – yes, you even get the hang of those!”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Charles Lucht & Dennis Godwin / Team USA</strong></p>
<p>Dennis: “The whole event is everything I expected and then some. The
  accommodations are incredible, the food is off the chart, the riding
  is even further off the chart, everyone is cool, we’re busy all the
  time, the special tests have been ingenious, fun, interesting, it’s
  really been a great-great experience.”</p>
<p>Charles: “The bike is awesome, if I had remembered to reactivate the
  ABS and traction control I’d not have crashed on day one that was 100%
  operator error, I ran out of talent! I have an 800GS – but I’m
  changing up to the 1200GS now, this has been the best test drive I’ve
  taken in my entire life!”</p>
<p>Dennis: “What else is really interesting here is whereas almost
  everywhere in the world you find you come around a corner and it’s
  ‘oh-no there’s a truck’. Here there are no cars out there, just
  motorcycles, just scooters, always on their own side of the road. That
