Munich. From July 2015 production, BMW M GmbH will
replace the existing Competition Package for the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6
Gran Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible with an upgraded version. The new
Competition Package has been developed with a keen eye on enhancing
driving dynamics. It includes a power boost for the4.4-litre V8 petrol
engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology (BMW M6 Coupe / BMW M6 Gran
  Coupe / BMW M6 Convertible: fuel consumption combined: 9.9 /9.9 / 10.3
  l / 100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 231 / 231 / 239 g/km) of 29kW over
the standard unit, to 441kW. Peak torque also rises from 680 Nm in
standard tune to700 Nm, and is available across an extremely wide rev
  band – between 1,500 and 6,000 rpm.

New personal best for the BMW M6 Coupe: 0 – 200 km/h in 11.8 seconds.

The three model variants impress with outstanding performance when
fitted with the new optional Competition Package. For example, the
sprint from 0 to100 km/h is all over in 3.9 seconds in the BMW M6
Coupe and BMW M6 Gran Coupe or 4.0 seconds in the BMW M6 Convertible.
What’s more, the BMW M6 Coupe requires just 11.8 seconds to power from
0 – 200 km/h, making it 0.6 seconds faster to the mark than with the
previous version of the Competition Package (423 kW). The top speed of
all Competition models is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but can
be stoked to 305 km/h with M Driver’s Package. The Competition
Package in South Africa includes the M Driver’s Package as part of
the Competition Package content. However, the M Driver’s Package is
also available as an option outside of the Competition Package.

The Competition Package includes various measures designed to
appreciably enrich the cars’ handling. Here the same principle applies
as in the development of all BMW M cars: the chassis technology is
tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the powertrain.
The result is maximum performance combined with assured and precisely
controllable responses at all times –even when pushing the dynamic
envelope. To this end, the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars all get
firmer tuning. The Active M Differential on the final drive works with
its own control unit to further improve traction, allowing the driver
to accelerate even more dynamically out of tight corners, for example.
The steering with M-specific Servotronic function has more direct
mapping while the M Dynamic Mode of theDSC (Dynamic StabilityControl)
system is focused even more intently on delivering sporty handling.

Externally, the BMW M6 Competition models make hearts beat faster
  with exclusive 20-inchM light-alloy wheels (double-spoke 601M,
bi-colour) and mixed tyres, plus black chrome twin tail pipes for the
  sports exhaust system.

The BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible with
Competition Package will be available from July 2015 production.
  Pricing is as follows:

BMW’s new figurehead for the GT
racing scene has been given its first run: last Saturday, the test
track on the premises of the BMW factory in Dingolfing (DE) provided
the stage for the roll-out of the BMW M6 GT3, with which BMW teams
will compete in national and international series, as well as at
iconic endurance races, from 2016 onwards. The car left the garage for
the first time at precisely 14:00 with Jörg Müller (DE) at the wheel.
This gave the BMW works driver the honour of creating the next
milestone in the development of the BMW M6 GT3.

“This is a big moment for everyone who has worked so intensely and
passionately on the development of the BMW M6 GT3 in recent months,”
said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “This car incorporates
all the experience we have gained in recent years on the endurance and
GT racing circuits. We are well on schedule with the development, and
are confident we will be able to take to the track in 2016 with a
package that is competitive from the outset. We still have a lot of
work ahead of us, but I would like to take this opportunity to say a
big thank you to everyone who has been involved with this fantastic project.”

Müller was thrilled with his outing in Dingolfing: “It is a fantastic
moment when you walk into the garage and see this stunningly beautiful
car. I am very proud to have taken it out for its first few
kilometres. A roll-out is obviously just an initial performance test
but, on the whole, everything was very good and we had no problems.
The engine really impressed me. It is powerful and has good torque,
which is important for a car like this. I am confident that BMW
Motorsport will provide its customers with a fantastic racing car, in
  the BMW M6 GT3.”

The development of the BMW M6 GT3 is progressing according to plan.
It is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 M TwinPower Turbo production engine,
which has been the subject of modifications for its use on the
racetrack. It has dry sump lubrication and generates over 500 hp, with
a total car weight of less than 1,300 kilograms. Further features of
the BMW M6 GT3 include the transaxle drive concept, a six-speed
sequential racing transmission, and powerful motorsport electronics.
The chassis’ aerodynamic properties were optimised in the BMW wind tunnel.

The BMW M6 Coupé provides an ideal basis, on which the BMW Motorsport
engineers have worked meticulously to hone the BMW M6 GT3 for use in
motor racing. Priority was given to ensuring the drivers are as safe
as physically possible. To offer the drivers of the BMW M6 GT3 as much
protection as possible against injury, BMW Motorsport itself developed
and produced the FIA-approved safety cell, which complies with the
very latest safety standards. The engineers also placed great emphasis
on efficiency, ease of maintenance and reliability, which is
particularly crucial at the 24-hour classics.

Anyone interested in purchasing a BMW M6 GT3 can send an E-mail to
  M6GT3@bmw-motorsport.com. They will
then be registered and be the first to hear any new information about
the car. Enquiries from North America are to be sent by E-mail to M6GT3NA@bmw-motorsport.com.

M GmbH to restate its leadership in the high-performance luxury
segment. The outgoing models had already set new benchmarks with the
flawless balance of power, efficiency, agility, comfort and luxury
that is typical of M models. And now the new BMW M6 Coupe, new BMW M6

  werful, sporty appearance.
The new BMW M6 Coupe, new BMW M6 Convertible and new BMW M6 Gran
Coupe announce their high-performance credentials before they even
turn a wheel thanks to their athletic and dynamic appearance. A front
end with new, standard-fitted LED headlights makes their intentions
immediately clear – the M‑specific double-bar kidney grille and
eye-catching front apron with large air intakes see to that. The
powerfully sculpted front wings with hallmark M gills (including
integrated side indicators), the side skirts and the exclusive forged
19-inch M light-alloy wheels (BMW M6 Gran Coupe exclusive forged
20-inch M light-alloy wheels) only add to this impression. The
sporting looks of the new BMW M6 Coupe, new BMW M6 Convertible and new
BMW M6 Gran Coupe are rounded off by a rear apron with integrated
diffuser insert, two sets of M-specific twin tailpipes and the M6 logo
on the boot lid. Another exclusive M feature is the ultra-lightweight
contoured carbon roof of the new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Gran
Coupe, which also helps to lower the cars’ centre of gravity visually.

The new BMW M6 model range will go on sale in South Africa in the

GT3 has enjoyed success around the world in recent years, and is very
popular among our customers. We obviously want to follow on from this
success with the BMW M6 GT3. After all, the target we have set
ourselves is to provide our customers with the best possible material.
We also want to demonstrate the high product substance of BMW M cars
in motorsport with the BMW M6 GT3. We are all very excited to see it
in action at the initial tests. One thing is certain from the first
design sketches: this car is going to have the wow factor. It goes
without saying that we will continue to offer BMW Z4 GT3 customers our
full support, just as they have come to expect from us.”

The heart of the BMW M6 GT3 is the BMW M Twin Power Turbo 8-cylinder
petrol engine, which features a capacity of 4.4 litres. The engine is
familiar from the production model and has been modified specifically
for racing. The chassis is being optimised by hand for the specific
demands of the racetrack in the BMW Motorsport workshop in Munich
(DE). With regard to technology, the focus is on the use of extras
that meet the very highest and latest standards in motorsport
development, such as racing gearbox, racing ABS and racing
electronics. Even now, BMW Motorsport is focussing on safety,
reliability and affordable running costs, to ensure that our customers
can enjoy successful motorsport at the highest level with the BMW M6
GT3, without the financial burden being too great.

Munich. They are high-performance sports cars, each
with an individual character and all sharing the claim of turning
superior performance attributes into an incomparable driving
experience. In the BMW M5 and in the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible
and BMW M6 Gran Coupe models, race track technology is brought to the
road. The ensuing hallmark M driving characteristics now present
themselves in an even more intense, concentrated and impressive guise.
From July 2013 orders, BMW M GmbH will be offering the Competition
Package as an option for the four most powerful automobiles in the
model portfolio. Its features open up a new dimension of dynamics in
  customary BMW M style.

The Competition Package was specifically conceived to enhance
handling properties, in adherence to the principle applied to the
development of all BMW M automobiles: fine-tuning the suspension
technology to the performance curve of the engine to bring maximum
performance in line with consistently superlative responses that are
precision-controllable even in highly dynamic driving situations.

The Competition Package boosts output by 11 kW to 423 kW in the
high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower turbo technology that powers
the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe
models. At the same time, the developers at BMW M GmbH have applied
extensive modifications to the chassis set-up. Along with the
suspension and damping systems, the stabiliser bars have also been
more tautly tuned. In the BMW M5 this adjustment has resulted in a
lowering of the car by around 10 millimetres. The potential inherent
in the rear axle design – based on the race-derived principle of the
rear axle subframe being bolted to the body – and the even more
precisely calculated elastokinematics for the front axle are exploited
to the full in the models featuring the Competition Package, with the
  aim of enhancing driving precision.

The Active M Differential on the final drive – standard on all models
  – is also issued with its own control unit in conjunction with the
Competition Package. In combination with the modified set-up for the
suspension, damping and stabiliser bars, this results in further
improved traction. The new hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering with the
M-specific Servotronic function, moreover, has more direct mapping to
enable firm and secure contact with the road while further increasing
the agility of the vehicle during cornering.

Beyond this, the configuration of the chassis control systems has
been adapted to the specific suspension profile. With the Competition
Package, the M Dynamic mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control)
system is even more acutely geared to sporty handling characteristics.
The package additionally includes exclusively designed 20-inch
M light-alloy wheels along with a sport exhaust system featuring
customary M twin tailpipes in black chrome that lend an unmistakable
sporty note to both the look and the sound of the car.

The further enhanced high-performance profile of the engine, chassis
and sound experience courtesy of the Competition Package also has a
positive impact on the vehicle set-up, which can be configured at the
press of a button by selecting the Comfort, Sport or Sport+ modes.
This makes for an even greater range between a supremely relaxed
driving style and emotion-laden sportiness in the overall set-up of
the relevant model. This more pronounced differentiation is most
noticeable when spontaneously switching the set-up with the help of
the M Drive buttons on the steering wheel.

The contents of the Competition Package make for optimised
performance characteristics in all models, as demonstrated for example
by 0.1 seconds being shaved off the standstill to 100 km/h sprint time
and 0.2 seconds when accelerating from zero to 200 km/h. Cornering
dynamics and elasticity are also enhanced – something that is
noticeable in everyday driving but most powerfully experienced on the
race track. In particular in conjunction with the optional M carbon
ceramic brakes, all the driving dynamics attributes associated with
BMW M automobiles are experienced at the highest level.

Local pricing for the new Competition Package will be confirmed at
  the end of May 2013.

Press Contact: Edward Makwana
Tel: +27-12-522-2227
E-mail: edward.makwana@bmw.co.za

Press Release,M6,M5,Product,BMW M

Anniversary of a successful partnership:
when the 2013 MotoGP World Championship gets underway with the Qatar
Grand Prix this weekend, BMW M will be starting its 15th season as
“Official Car of MotoGP”. BMW has been involved in MotoGP since 1999
and provides the official Safety Cars.

The first of many highlights over the course of the anniversary comes
at the opening round, which will be held at the “Losail International
Circuit” in Qatar: the first public outing of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
It is only a few weeks since the latest eagerly-awaited
high-performance coupé from BMW M GmbH was enjoying its world premiere
at the NAIAS in Detroit. This season, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe will
spearhead the fleet of Safety Cars in action in the MotoGP World
Championship. The high-performance BMW M6 Gran Coupe is a premium
product, which combines outstanding performance with captivating
aesthetics and luxurious elegance. The latest top model to emerge from
BMW M GmbH is powered by a high-rev V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo
technology and generating 412 kW. It is this power that allows the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2
seconds. The engine performance, chassis technology, aerodynamic
properties and balance, which is optimised using components such as
the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic roof, are aligned with the kind of
precision that people have come to expect of M. As such, the BMW M6
Gran Coupe not only offers a new luxury experience in an M vehicle,
but also fully exhausts the dynamic driving potential, which is rooted
in the BMW 6 Series. The Safety Car version of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
has been specially modified for its use as a pace car out on the racetrack.

In total, the fleet of official MotoGP cars for the 2013 season
comprises five BMW M and M Performance models. As well as the BMW M6
Gran Coupe, the BMW M6 Coupe and the BMW M5 will also be in action as
Safety Cars. The Safety Officer will take to the track in a BMW M3
Coupe, while two BMW M550d xDrive Tourings will be used as medical
cars. BMW Motorrad will also provide two new BMW HP4s as Safety Bikes.
You can find more information on the 2013 Safety Car fleet online at
    www.bmw-m-safetycar.com.

“We are delighted that our cooperation with MotoGP is already
entering its 15th season,” said Thomas Schemera, Director of Sales and
Marketing at BMW M GmbH. “This shows that Dorna Sports sees us as a
reliable partner when it comes to guaranteeing that practice sessions,
qualifying and races pass safely in the pinnacle of motorcycle racing
  – even in the most difficult weather conditions. In return, the
Motorcycle World Championship provides us with the perfect platform.
This allows us to present our high-performance automobiles to a target
group consisting of motorsport enthusiasts who share our passion for
technologically innovative and dynamic sports cars – and that all over
the world. We are particularly proud to be able to run our
high-performance luxury coupe, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, as a Safety Car
  in the 2013 season.”

BMW M GmbH’s involvement in MotoGP is not solely restricted to the
Safety Car fleet, but also comprises numerous sales and marketing
campaigns within the Grand Prix environment. The BMW M Hospitality in
the paddock will display MINI, BMW and BMW M automobiles. Visitors
will also receive detailed information on the Grand Prix, riders and
teams. An exclusive VIP sales programme completes the offering in the
BMW M Hospitality. On the BMW M MotoGP Experience, guests spend the
race weekend in the VIP village, thus gaining insights into what goes
on behind the scenes of the Motorcycle World Championship. Among the
highlights of this visitor package are the garage tours with former
world champion and BMW M MotoGP Expert Loris Capirossi (ITA), meetings
with the current crop of riders, and taxi rides in one of the BMW M
  Safety Cars.

The BMW M Award is also celebrating an anniversary this year. Since
2003, this award has been presented at the end of the MotoGP season to
the rider with the best overall qualifying record. Among the recent
winners, who receive an exclusive BMW M car for their efforts, are
Valentino Rossi (ITA), Casey Stoner (AUS), Jorge Lorenzo (ESP) and
Nicky Hayden (USA). To mark the tenth anniversary of the award, the
best qualifier this season can look forward to a special highlight –
however, the exact BMW M model will not be revealed until the start of
the European leg of the season in Jerez (ESP) in May.

BMW M GmbH rang in the first grand prix week of the season with an
exclusive M6 event hosted by Alfardan Automobiles, the BMW importer in
Doha. This pre-launch event enabled Qatari national media
representatives and invited customers to be the first to view the
eagerly anticipated BMW M6 Gran Coupe Safety Car. This pace car, to be
deployed on-track for the first time this weekend, was unveiled by BMW
M MotoGP Expert Loris Capirossi. Also present were the BMW M6 Coupe
Safety Car and the BMW M6 Convertible.

set to be presented for the first time as the BMW M6 Gran Coupe joins
the existing Coupe and Convertible models in the line-up. The new
member of the M6 family brings together customary M performance
characteristics with extra helpings of luxury and aesthetic appeal.
The high-revving V8 enginewith M TwinPower Turbo technology and
  412 kW/560 hp propels the BMW M6 Gran Coupe from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph)
in 4.2 seconds. And the elegantly sporty lines of the four-door Coupe
are complemented by bespoke features, such as the carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof. The greater interior space of
the BMW M6 Gran Coupe allows two rear passengers to enjoy generous
levels of on-board comfort, and there is also a third rear seat for
  use on shorter journeys.

Design: the beauty of majestic power delivery.

Hallmark M design features influenced directly by technical
considerations – such as cooling air requirements, chassis geometry,
weight balance and aerodynamics – open a clear window into the
performance capability of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The front of the car
is dominated by its large air intakes, standard Adaptive LED
Headlights and an M kidney grille designed especially for this model.
From the side, the first four-door Coupe in the BMW M GmbH ranks is
clearly distinguishable from the BMW M6 Coupe thanks to its rear doors
and 113-millimetre longer wheelbase. The low roofline flowing smoothly
into the rear, the swage line – which takes in the door openers – and
side windows extending well into the C-pillars accentuate the
  dynamically stretched silhouette.

Prominently flared wheel arches draw the eye to a track width
specific to the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The characteristic M gills,
aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors, standard BMW Individual
  High-gloss Shadow Line package and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy
wheels in double-spoke design underline the car’s distinctive
appearance, as does another M signature – twin exhaust tailpipes
positioned on the outer edges of the rear apron. Also integrated into
the rear apron, and charged with the task of optimising airflow along
the car’s underbody, is a diffuser made from CFRP.

This extremely lightweight, impressively strong high-tech material is
used in the construction of the roof as well. Here, the visible carbon
structure provides an eye-catching feature, as does a dynamic recess
in the centre of the roof. This recess is referenced stylistically
inside the car, the anthracite-coloured Alcantara roof liner gaining a
  central section in leather.

Emulating the harmonious blend of athletic prowess and elegance
embodied by the exterior design, the distinctively M cockpit fuses
sports car style with generous levels of space and a luxurious
ambience. The driver and front passenger can look forward to M sports
seats with integral belt guides. And the BMW M6 Gran Coupe’s standard
specification also includes Merino leather upholstery with extended
features. The rear compartment offers two or three seats, the
backrests of which can split and fold down in a ratio of 40 : 60 to
increase boot capacity from 460 to as much as 1,265 litres.

V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, seven-speed
M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, Active M Differential.

The powertrain technology under the skin of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
guarantees the performance characteristics for which M Automobiles are
renowned. The V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology produces
412 kW/560 hp. Its technical wizardry includes a pair of twin-scroll
turbochargers, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Direct
Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-Vanos
continuously variable camshaft control. The 4,395 cc unit keeps peak
torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) on tap between 1,500 and
5,750 rpm, while maximum output is developed between 6,000 and
7,000 rpm. The engine revs to a maximum of 7,200 rpm. The BMW M6 Gran
Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds on the way to
an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h/155 mph (305 km/h/189
mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified). Average fuel
consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 9.9 litres per 100
kilometres (28.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions are 232 grams per kilometre.

Taking care of power transfer is a seven-speed M Double Clutch
Transmission with Drivelogic. The transmission’s electronic management
system ensures the right gear is selected for optimum traction. It
also offers the driver a Launch Control function for maximum
acceleration, Low Speed Assistance for extra comfort and the Auto
  Start-Stop function to enhance efficiency.

Under particularly dynamic acceleration out of corners, as well as in
tricky road and weather conditions, the Active M Differential at the
rear axle distributes the engine’s power between the individual wheels
to maximum traction-enhancing effect. Its electronically controlled
multi-disc limited-slip differential works hand-in-hand with the DSC
(Dynamic Stability Control) system and splits drive between the right
and left rear wheels quickly and precisely according to the situation
  at hand.

Chassis technology developed to M specification.

The chassis technology of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is also geared to
harnessing the car’s sporting potential in the cause of supreme
performance. Like the integral rear axle, the double-wishbone front
axle has specific kinematics and components made from forged
aluminium. Chassis mountings using large panels ensure dynamic forces
are passed evenly through to the body. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe comes as
standard with an M-specific version of the Dynamic Damper Control
system and hydraulic variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering with the
  M Servotronic function.

As an alternative to the standard high-performance compound braking
system, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe can also be ordered with
M carbon-ceramic brakes. Made from a new type of carbon-fibre compound
ceramic, the discs boast even greater resistance to heat, lower weight
  and exceptional resistance to wear.

Arranged around the gearshift lever on the centre console of the
BMW M6 Gran Coupe are the buttons used to configure all the adjustable
powertrain and chassis functions to personal tastes. The
DSC mode, engine performance characteristics, Dynamic Damper Control
mapping,M Servotronic responses and M DCT Drivelogic shift program can
be selected independently of each other. All of which means the driver
can put together a detailed set-up and store those settings on one of
the two M Drive buttons on the multifunction steering wheel.

Exclusive and individual: high-quality range of equipment.

The standard equipment fitted on the BMW M6 Gran Coupe includes
20-inch M light-alloy wheels, leather trim, heated driver and front
passenger seats, automatically dimming rear-view and exterior mirrors,
an alarm system and the BMW Professional radio with hi-fi
loudspeakers. Available as an alternative to the standard 2-zone
automatic climate control is a 4-zone system with a control panel in
the rear compartment. Among the other highlights of the options list
are M multifunction seats, heated rear seats, Comfort Access, a heated
steering wheel, the Soft Close Automatic function for the doors,
electrically operated sun blinds, the new generation of the
Professional navigation system and a Bang & Olufsen High End
  Surround Sound System.

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe also comes with a variety of BMW ConnectedDrive
features, such as an M-specific BMW Head-Up Display, Park Distance
Control, a rear-view camera, High Beam Assistant, Speed Limit Info,
Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Surround View and BMW
Night Vision with pedestrian recognition. Customers can also integrate
their Apple iPhone or other smartphones into the car and make use of
  internet-based services while on board.

Press Contact: Edward Makwana
Tel: +27-12-522-2227
E-mail: edward.makwana@bmw.co.za

Press Kit,M6,Product,BMW M

incorporates the specific features of the two models’ body structures.
The new BMW M6 Coupe has a dynamically contoured, lightweight roof
made from carbon fibre- reinforced plastic. The new BMW M6
Convertible, meanwhile, is fitted with a high-quality soft-top,
complete with eye-catching “fin” styling and fully electronic opening
mechanism. All of which allows the driver and passengers to enjoy the
dynamic performance of a high-performance sports car in harmony with
the natural forces of the sun and wind.

The motor sport technology in the new BMW M6 Convertible paves the
way for imposing performance on the race track, but also treats the
driver to a captivating driving experience on everyday journeys from A
to B. The BMW M6 Convertible sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in
4.3 seconds. However, the dynamic character of both models is also
defined by their mid-range agility, the precision of their turn-in and
traction when accelerating out of corners, their precisely
controllable handling under intense lateral forces and their stopping
capability. The latest innovation designed to optimise the handling of
the new BMW M6 Convertible in highly dynamic driving situations are
the M carbon-ceramic brakes, offered as an option for the first time.

Another attribute unmatched by any rival is the leap forward in
efficiency that comes with the high-performance sports car. The new
BMW M6 Convertible records average fuel consumption of 10.3 l/100 km
and 239 g/km. Despite a 10 per cent increase in engine output and a
30 per cent jump in peak torque – to 680 Newton metres – fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by over 30 per cent in
both cases compared with their respective predecessors.

Design: athletic aura, powerfully taut surfaces, elegant lines.

Classical proportions, the sporty yet elegant lines of the BMW 6
Series and the familiar design language of BMW M Automobiles form the
foundations for the eloquent body design of the BMW M6 Convertible.
Powerfully taut surfaces and precise contours underline the athletic
aura of the two models. In addition, a model-specific interpretation
of hallmark M styling cues includes design details which are
influenced directly by technical considerations – such as the cooling
air required, chassis geometry and aerodynamics – and therefore
further highlight the car’s outstanding performance attributes. This
is a fine example of how the ultra-dynamic character, which marks out
the exclusive Convertible, is accurately expressed through its design.

Wide air intakes, stunningly contoured headlight units and large,
smooth surfaces shape the front end of the new BMW M6
Convertible. Another eye-catching element of the car’s nose is its
newly designed M kidney grille, which bears an “M6” badge. The
grille’s black, paired kidney grille slats take their cues from the
characteristic double-spoke design of the M light-alloy wheels. The
30-millimetre increase in track width over the car’s 6 Series stable
mate is complemented by powerfully flared front wheel arches, which
sit flush with the wheels. This extra width offers a clear nod to the
optimised roadholding of these high-performance sports cars. The
three-dimensional shaping of their air intakes and race-inspired flaps
designed to optimise airflow to the outer air intakes likewise
underline the cars’ forward-surging, dynamic character.

Press Contact: Edward Makwana
Tel: +27-12-522-2227
E-mail: edward.makwana@bmw.co.za

Press Release,M6,Product,BMW M

the luxurious Coupe and exclusive Convertible is accurately expressed
  through their design.

An LED accent light cuts across the tops of the Adaptive LED
Headlights fitted as standard on both models. Their bright white,
  three-dimensional
LED light rings are levelled off to striking
effect at the top and lower edges. Both dipped beam and main beam use
both light rings. Providing the light are LED units, which are placed
on a horizontal rib running through the centre of the units and feed
their light into the reflectors in front of them. This ensures that
the distinctive appearance of the twin circular headlights comes
across clearly in every situation. The direction indicators – in the
form of horizontally arranged LED units – are integrated into the
headlight units below the light rings.

The familiar M athleticism of both models is also clearly visible
from the side. The front side sections of the car feature familiar M
gills. Their three-dimensional shaping, wide chrome frames and
  indicator bars – which bear
the M logo – give them an extremely
deep-set look. In tune with the wider wheel arches, the character
lines around the gills are suitably prominent.
Eye-catching
creases on the likewise model-specific side skirts sweep upwards,
diverting the gaze to the rear wheels. The new BMW M6 Coupe and
BMW M6 Convertible are fitted with 19-inch M light-alloy wheels
as standard. The forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in a
  two-tone finish. The optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, meanwhile,
hint at reduced weight with their five intricate double-spokes and
allow a clear line of sight through to the powerful braking system.

Broadening towards the road and incorporating horizontal lines and
generous surfaces, the design of the rear end hints at the
stable roadholding and powerful poise and assurance of the new BMW M6
  Coupe and
BMW M6 Convertible. The reflectors, positioned
  immediately below the
L-shaped rear lights, provide an
individual expression of sportiness. However, the clearest pointer to
the unmistakable identity of the two high-performance sports cars are
the familiar M twin exhaust tailpipes positioned to either side of the

This makes BMW’s large Coupé in the guise of the M6 one of the most beautiful
cars in the world – and at the same time the most sophisticated and powerful 6 Se¬ries there has ever been: five litres engine capacity, 10 cylinders,
507 bhp (373 kW), 520 Newton-metres (383 lb-ft) maximum torque,
and engine speed beyond the 8,000 rpm limit.</pp:summary>

Together with the outstanding, uncompromising suspension designed and
built exclusively for sporting performance, this supreme power unit
  gives
the BMW M6 all the qualities of a thoroughbred
supersports. But unlike its competitors usually offering only two
seats, the BMW M6 comes with all
the space and comfort of a
typical 2+2-seater, plus the luxurious features of
a typical
  luxury performance BMW.

The success principle: True power in a discreet package.

The BMW M6 shares its supreme power unit with the BMW M5. Ever since
being introduced in the M5, this engine has been acknowledged as the
absolute benchmark, just as the M5 is the very epitome of the
  Sports Saloon.

Now, introducing even more superior performance data, the BMW M6 sets
a new standard in the segment of high-performance 2+2-seater
luxury sports cars. Creating this unique model, the engineers at BMW M
  GmbH have
focused not only on the sheer power of the engine,
but also on the weight of the body and, as a result, the mass to be
  accelerated as quickly as possible
on the road. Reducing weight
to a sensible minimum, the M6 comes with all the driving dynamics
required for the race track, while in terms of motoring comfort and
equipment it is simply ideal for all roads the world over. Not least,
the body design of the BMW M6 modified only discreetly versus the
elegant look of the BMW Coupé comes with all the understatement so
characteristic of all M Models as their elementary feature.

Interacting with the seven-speed SMG transmission, the magnificent
chassis and suspension, the elegant body in innovative lightweight
  technology,
as well as the wide range of luxury equipment, the
  ten-cylinder high-speed engine gives the customer a brand-new
  dimension in motoring performance.
It is indeed difficult to
find any genuine competitors to the M6, since all other more or less
comparable cars are either all-out supersports or sports saloons

far inferior in terms of agility. So given the car’s innovative drive
  concept,
a power-to-weight ratio even better than on the M5, as
  well as unique
handling – and all this with all the everyday
driving qualities of a large coupé – the engineers at BMW M GmbH
rightly claim that the new BMW M6 truly comes in a class of its own.

V10 power unit running at racing speeds.

Sharing BMW’s V10 power unit, the M5 and M6 come with one of the rare
high-speed engines in regular saloon and coupé production. Within the
entire BMW family, the V10 is indeed the most demanding engine
in technical terms and, without doubt, the top performer in every respect.

Power and performance, however, are not everything. Rather, what
really counts is a car’s acceleration and driving dynamics on the
  road. And this
depends, first, on the weight of a car and,
  second, on the thrust and
power which actually goes to the drive
wheels – which, in turn, is a result of engine torque and the overall
transmission ratio. BMW’s high-speed engine concept allows an optimum
gearbox and final drive transmission ratio in
all cases, thus
guaranteeing impressive thrust and momentum on the road
at all times.

The perfect choice: High-revving concept.

A compact, high-revving normal-aspiration engine is the best of all
strategies in generating maximum engine output: Revving up to speed of
  8,250 rpm,
the V10 reaches a speed range reserved until recently
to purebred racing cars alone. As a result, the engine easily
outperforms the magical limit of 100 bhp per litre, again achieving
specific output of a standard otherwise only found in motorsport.

The two five-cylinder banks in the V10 are arranged at an angle of
90° in order to optimise the standard of vibration control and
motoring comfort offered by full mass compensation on the
crankdrive. Taking the substantial forces of the combustion process,
high engine speeds and vibrations into account,
the crankcase
comes in bedplate design. The extremely stiff crankshaft,
in
  turn, runs in six bearings.

Variable dual-VANOS camshaft control ensures an optimum cylinder
charge cycle in the interest of extremely fast valve timing. On the
road this means even more performance, an improved torque curve,
  optimum responsiveness,
lower fuel consumption, and emissions
reduced to a minimum. Again reflecting the typical features of
motorsport, each cylinder comes with its own throttle butterfly
masterminded fully electronically for each row of cylinders.

Press Contact: Edward Makwana
Tel: +27-12-522-2227
E-mail: edward.makwana@bmw.co.za

Press Release,M6,Product,BMW M

BMW M GmbH has announced the end of production of the BMW M6 Coupé and the BMW M6 Convertible. The two high performance models provide the most exclusive opportunity to experience on normal roads the hallmark athleticism of M vehicles combined with drive and chassis technology inspired by the world of motor racing. In total 14,152 examples of these high-performance sports cars were built: 9,087 units of the Coupé, which launched in 2005; and 5,065 Convertible models, presented the following year.</pp:summary>

With the departure of these two fascinating and exceptional athletes
and the already discontinued fourth-generation BMW M5, production will
now also cease for the unique V10 high-rev engine. For years the 373
kW/507 hp power plant has set the benchmark for delivering sheer power
in cars that are both highly dynamic in character and symbolic of the
outstanding expertise of BMW M GmbH in developing high-performance
engines. For two years in succession, 2005 and 2006, the ten-cylinder
unit took overall victory in the prestigious Engine of the Year Award,
and in the two years that followed achieved first place on each
occasion in the category for engines with displacement above 4 litres.

The stand-out feature of this unique engine, developed exclusively
for the BMW M5 and BMW M6 models, is power delivery that is both
extremely dynamic and smooth even at higher loads. Output is developed
from a 5-litre displacement split between ten combustion chambers,
with the two banks of cylinders cranked at 90 degrees to one another.
The engine delivers maximum output at 7,750 rpm, with engine speed
eventually peaking at 8,250 rpm, and it has maximum torque of 520 Nm.
In addition to the high-rev concept, a number of other technological
details – electronically-controlled individual throttle valves, an
ionic current control system and lateral force controlled

oil supply – were also directly derived from motor racing.

In much the same way, design principles of chassis technology and
lightweight construction also found their way from the race track to
the road. In the case of the BMW M6 Coupé, for example, carbon
fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) – a material that largely owes its
introduction in the automotive sector to Formula One – was used in
both the roof and bumper design.

The BMW M6 Convertible is a dream car for the genuine enthusiast seeking
to combine supreme power and performance with a particularly stylish
rendition of open-air motoring. Precisely for this purpose, BMW M GmbH has
created a truly unique performer: Ten cylinders and five litres engine capacity,
373 kW/507 hp and maximum torque of 520 Newton-metres/383 lb-ft – these
are the basic facts and figures describing a drive unit revving up smoothly
and dynamically to the other side of 8,000 rpm. Together with the excellent
suspension conceived for supreme dynamics and the Sequential M Gearbox
(SMG) complete with Drivelogic, this supreme power unit turns the
large convertible from BMW M into an open sports car able to accelerate
to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.</pp:summary>

The BMW M6 Convertible combines impressive driving dynamics with

supreme exclusivity and aesthetic looks with dynamic elegance through and

through. And offering all the space and comfort of a genuine 2+2 as

well as the refinement of a truly outstanding top segment luxury car, the

BMW M6 Convertible makes open-air motoring an absolutely unique experience.

Combining all kinds of different qualities in unprecedented style, the

BMW M6 Convertible is truly unmistakable. It is the open-air version
  of the

BMW M6 high-performance sports car. And at the same time it is

the most sporting and dynamic rendition of the BMW 6 Series Convertible.

In particular, however, the BMW M6 Convertible is one of the most

fascinating and exclusive cars ever built.

Reflecting the usual standard of a BMW M Car, the dynamic driving qualities

of the BMW M6 Convertible have been optimised on the race track.

With its supreme driving comfort, wide range of equipment and unique flair,

the M6 Convertible is however equally at home on all kinds of roads the

world over. The high-quality fabric roof ensures sheer driving
  pleasure at all

times of the year. And not least, the BMW M6 Convertible stands out

through the understatement and style so typical of every BMW M Car.

Unique at first sight.

In the sum total of all its features, the BMW M6 Convertible is
    beyond any

competition. Proudly bearing the motorsport DNA of BMW M and the

comfort-oriented elegance of the BMW 650i Convertible, the M6 Convertible

most definitely comes in a class of its own – it is a high-performance

Media

Information

6/2006

Page 4

convertible thrilling in every respect. So there can be no doubt
      about it:

Compared with other high-performance open two-seaters,

the BMW M6 Convertible comes closest to the concept of the ideal car

in this segment.

Measuring 4,871 millimetres or 191.8 inches in length, BMW M’s
      new highperformance

convertible is more than 5 centimetres or 2 inches longer than

the BMW 6 Series Convertible, above all due to its rear air dam optimised

for supreme aerodynamic performance and giving the entire car an even

sleeker, stretched-out silhouette. Widely flared wheel arches, in
      turn, give the

car a very sporting, low and dynamic look.

Perhaps the most significant eye-catchers at the rear are the
      four exhaust

tailpipes sticking out of the powerfully contoured air dam so typical

of BMW’s M Cars. In all, the BMW M6 Convertible offers unique aesthetic

looks characterised by dynamism and exclusivity and truly
      fascinating to

behold whether the car is open or closed.

Fin-roof look with the softtop either closed or open.

The roof of the BMW M6 Convertible is made up of three layers.
        A special

noise- and heat-insulating layer of polyurethane (PUR) foam
        comes between

the rubberised outer layer and the interior roof lining. Thanks
        to its unique

fin-roof look, the softtop boasts the same dynamic contours as
        the coupé.

The wide C-pillar, in turn, is characterised by the so-called Hofmeister

“kick” proudly borne out on all BMWs and so typical of the brand.

Although the roof covers an extremely generous passenger compartment,

it folds up into compact dimensions, the vertically positioned
        rear window

hardly taking up any storage space at all, since it moves up and

down electrically, regardless of whether the roof itself is
        open or closed, thus

providing a pleasant, draught-free supply of air whenever required.

The roof itself opens and closes electrically either by remote
        control or by

pressing a button in the instrument panel, the entire process
        in each

case taking less than 25 seconds.

The interior: sports car character with proud style and noblesse.

Within its interior, the BMW M6 Convertible again boasts a
          wide range of

beautiful, stylish and highly practical features. Quite
          openly, it displays all the

noblesse rightly expected by the connoisseur of an exclusive convertible

ranging from generous seats and spaciousness all the way to a complete

range of highly attractive comfort features. A particular
          highlight is the tasteful

combination of the most exclusive materials, with the entire
          design of the

interior reflecting the car’s sporting and elegant style.

Press Contact: Edward Makwana
Tel: +27-12-522-2227
E-mail: edward.makwana@bmw.co.za

Press Release,M6,Product,BMW M

The
3.2-litre straight-six engine sported by the BMW M3 with 252 kW, and
now also featured in the BMW Z4 M Roadster and Z4 M Coupe, again caused
a sensation. Ever
since being introduced in the M5, this engine has been acknowledged as
the absolute benchmark, just as the M5 is the very epitome of the
Sports Saloon. Now, introducing even more superior performance data,
the BMW M6 sets a new standard in the segment of high-performance
2+2-seater luxury sports cars. Creating this unique model, the
engineers at BMW M GmbH have focused not only on the sheer power of the
engine, but also on the weight of the body and, as a result, the mass
to be accelerated as quickly as possible on the road. Reducing weight
to a sensible minimum, the M6 comes with all the driving dynamics
required for the race track, while in terms of motoring comfort and
equipment it is simply ideal for all roads the world over. Not least,
the body design of the BMW M6 modified only discreetly versus the
elegant look of the BMW Coupé comes with all the understatement
so characteristic of all M Models as their elementary feature.
Interacting with the seven-speed SMG transmission, the magnificent
chassis and suspension, the elegant body in innovative lightweight
technology, as well as the wide range of luxury equipment, the
ten-cylinder high-speed engine gives the customer a brand-new dimension
in motoring performance. It is indeed difficult to find any genuine
competitors to the M6, since all other more or less comparable cars are
either all-out supersports or sports saloons far inferior in terms of
agility. So given the car's innovative drive concept, a power-to-weight
ratio even better than on the M5, as well as unique handling - and all
this with all the everyday driving qualities of a large coupé -
the engineers at BMW M GmbH rightly claim that the new BMW M6 truly
comes in a class of its own. V10 power unit running at racing speeds.
Sharing BMW's V10 power unit, the M5 and M6 come with one of the rare
high-speed engines in regular saloon and coupé production. Within
the entire BMW family, the V10 is indeed the most demanding engine in
technical terms and, without doubt, the top performer in every respect.
Power and performance, however, are not everything. Rather, what really
counts is a car's acceleration and driving dynamics on the road. And
this depends, first, on the weight of a car and, second, on the thrust
and power which actually goes to the drive wheels - which, in turn, is
a result of engine torque and the overall transmission ratio. BMW's
high speed engine concept allows an optimum gearbox and final drive
transmission ratio in all cases, thus guaranteeing impressive thrust
and momentum on the road at all times. The perfect choice:
High-revving concept. A compact, high-revving normal-aspiration engine
is the best of all strategies in generating maximum engine output:
Revving up to speed of 8,250 rpm, the V10 reaches a speed range
reserved until recently to purebred racing cars alone. As a result, the
engine easily outperforms the magical limit of 100 bhp per litre, again
achieving specific output of a standard otherwise only found in
motorsport. The two five-cylinder banks in the V10 are arranged at an
angle of 90° in order to optimise the standard of vibration control
and motoring comfort offered by full mass compensation on the
crankdrive. Taking the substantial forces of the combustion process,
high engine speeds and vibrations into account, the crankcase comes in
bedplate design. The extremely stiff crankshaft, in turn, runs in six
bearings. Variable dual-VANOS camshaft control ensures an optimum
cylinder charge cycle in the interest of extremely fast valve timing.
On the road this means even more performance, an improved torque curve,
optimum responsiveness, lower fuel consumption, and emissions reduced
to a minimum. Again reflecting the typical features of motorsport, each
cylinder comes with its own throttle butterfly masterminded fully
electronically for each row of cylinders.

Press Contact: Guy Kilfoil
Tel: +27-12-522-2518
E-mail: guy.kilfoil@bmw.co.za

Press Kit,M6,Product,BMW M
