Exterior design: Dynamic front end and hallmark BMW proportions.

The sporty aura of the BMW 1 Series is underlined in the latest model generation by typical BMW proportions: a long bonnet, a passenger cell set well back, a dynamically flowing roofline and a powerful rear end. The dimensions of the five-door model have changed only slightly compared to its predecessor. The exterior length of the new BMW 1 Series has increased by 42 millimetres to 4,361 millimetres, while the wheelbase is 2,670 millimetres. The vehicle width is 1,800 millimetres, while the height has increased by 25 millimetres to 1,459 millimetres.

With a strikingly flat front end that sits significantly lower to the road than its predecessor, the new BMW 1 Series signals its sporty character more than ever. The wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille features an innovative structure of vertical and diagonal bars. The standard LED headlights feature striking vertical elements for the daytime running light and the turn indicators. Adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam, cornering light function and blue accents are optionally available.

The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is defined by an expressive front section, a dynamically elongated silhouette and a powerfully designed rear. This conveys even more clearly the sporty elegance that is so characteristic of a BMW Gran Coupé.

The wide BMW radiator grille positioned below the headlights featuring an innovative structure of vertical and diagonal bars inside and the large lower air inlet give the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé a low-slung, road-hugging appearance.

The standard LED headlights comprise vertical elements for the daytime running lights and turn indicators. Adaptive LED headlights with glare-free matrix high beam, cornering light function and blue accentuations are available as an option.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé will be produced at the BMW Group’s plant in Leipzig, with the market launch starting in March 2025.

The range of exterior finishes includes two solid and seven metallic finishes, along with four BMW Individual finishes and a choice of numerous BMW Individual special finishes. A contrasting high-gloss black finish is available for the roof.

The new edition of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has been increased in length by 20 millimetres to 4 546 millimetres, while the wheelbase measures 2 670 millimetres. The width of the vehicle is 1 800 millimetres, and the height has been increased by 25 millimetres to 1 445 millimetres.

Leather-free interior in a high-class premium ambience.

The newly designed interior of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is entirely leather-free as standard. The Veganza/Alcantara trim is available as an option, combined with hand-sewn contrasting seams for the instrument panel. The dynamically backlit interior trims made of milled aluminium likewise contribute to the car’s refined and athletic premium ambience. BMW Curved Display and the newly designed gear selector underline the progressive character of the interior.

Newly designed seats provide a high level of comfort on long journeys. Optional sports seats are offered in Econeer, while M sports seats are also available. There are seat heating and electrically operated adjustment options for all versions. The standard sports steering wheel can be exchanged for an M leather steering wheel, which has also been redesigned. This is part of the M Sport package and features shift paddles for manual gear changes. An interaction airbag between the driver and front passenger now contributes to optimised occupant protection as standard. The rear seat backrest offers a 40: 20: 40 split as standard, while the storage volume is 430 litres (BMW 220 Gran Coupé, BMW 220d Gran Coupé: 360 litres).

Top model with racing DNA and outstanding performance.

The BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 8.2 – 7.5 l/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 185 – 170 g/km according to WLTP) is at the top of the model range and features significantly enhanced performance characteristics. Powered by a 221 kW 4-cylinder engine, the BMW M performance automobile accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. 

M Sport Package with adaptive M suspension and sport steering.

A standard feature of the new BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé offered as part of the optional M Sport package for all other model variants, the adaptive M suspension enhances both agility and long-distance comfort by means of variable, mechanically controlled and frequency-selective shock absorbers. Pressure peaks within the shock absorbers are smoothed out by means of additional valves acting on the traction side. With the Adaptive M suspension, the vehicle is lowered by up to 8 millimetres and also includes sports steering.

Improved body rigidity, further developed chassis.

The increased rigidity of the body structure and chassis connections helps the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé achieve improved agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics. The further refinement of the chassis includes optimised kinematics and new shock absorber technology. The increased caster offset of the front wheels ensures stable straight-line driving and optimised steering feedback.

Standard features also include directly controlled wheel slip limitation, an integrated braking system and 17-inch light alloy wheels (BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé: 18-inch). The M Sport package includes Adaptive M suspension with a lowered suspension, sports steering and 18-inch light alloy wheels. Optional extras include light alloy wheels up to 19 inches in diameter and an M Sport brake system.

Modern systems for partially automated driving and parking.

The standard and optional driver assistance systems available for the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé set standards among the competition in terms of functional range and reliability. Standard features include the Driving Assistant with front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, exit warning and Speed Limit Info, as well as the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

Optional highlights include the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, the automatic Speed Limit Assist and a route speed control when using Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. 

Extensive standard equipment and high-quality options.

The significantly expanded range of standard equipment for the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé also includes BMW Live Cockpit Plus featuring the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. New optional equipment packages allow for targeted customisation. For example the Innovation package includes BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Head-Up Display and Augmented View on the Control Display, as well as Parking Assistant Plus.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Digital Premium.

The BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 9 is available in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé for intuitive and convenient operation of vehicle functions. QuickSelect enables all the main vehicle functions to be accessed directly without having to switch to a submenu. This means that the cockpit of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is consistently designed for multimodal operation using touch functions, voice control and multifunction buttons on the steering wheel.

Meanwhile the BMW ConnectedDrive upgrades enable customers to add selected vehicle functions for a specific period of time. The new BMW Digital Premium is also available for the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. This offers country-specific entertainment services such as music streaming, news and gaming, additional My Modes, and also advanced navigation functions such as Satellite View and 3D building display, as well as the new Curve-Ahead View in conjunction with the BMW Head-Up Display.

Remote software upgrades allow free quality enhancements and additional functions to be downloaded to the vehicle “over the air”. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available as standard in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. With BMW ID and My BMW app, users can personalise their user experience, while with the optional BMW Digital Key Plus, compatible smartphones and smart watches can take on the function of the vehicle key.

All figures relating to driving performance, fuel consumption and emissions are provisional.

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is a unique vehicle concept in the compact segment, combining extroverted sportiness, perfectly controllable dynamics and progressive premium features. The two-door model is now even more attractive thanks to a detailed, modified design, extended standard equipment and consistent digitalisation. All model variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé come with the M Sport Package and additional comfort features as standard. New paint finishes, light-alloy wheels, steering wheels, trim strips and seat upholstery add a modern touch to the exterior and interior of the vehicle. The new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and innovative digital services based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 also contribute to the progressive character of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

With its compact proportions, sharper design, powerful engines and M Sport suspension now fitted as standard, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé offers a more emotional driving experience than ever before. The two-door model follows in the footsteps of the legendary BMW 02 Series, which in the 1960s was already regarded as the epitome of driving pleasure. Its range of engines includes highly efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, which transmit their power to the road via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and classic rear-wheel drive, as well as an in-line six-cylinder engine in the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, which is unique in the competitive environment.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé will be available in South Africa from the fourth quarter of 2024. It will be manufactured at the BMW Group plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico..

Fresh design highlights, M Sport Package now standard.

The dimensions, body structure, drive concept and chassis technology of the BMW 2 Series Coupé are designed to convey the brand's hallmark driving pleasure in a particularly concentrated form. The distinctive front end with individual round headlamps, the horizontal BMW radiator grille and the power dome on the long bonnet, the athletically modelled surfaces of the side view, the wide wheel arches and the short luggage compartment lid that ends in a striking air scoop give the BMW 2 Series Coupé an unmistakable appearance. With the design features of the M Sport Package now fitted as standard, the new edition of the compact two-door model expresses its dynamic character even more intensively. The M specific design includes extra-large air intakes at the front of the vehicle, powerful side skirts and a striking rear apron with vertical reflectors and a diffuser-like insert.

At the front of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the surround of the BMW radiator grille is now finished in pearlescent chrome. The side skirts and the lower part of the rear apron are no longer painted in black, but in the colour of the vehicle. The diffuser insert is finished in high-gloss black for a contrasting effect at the rear.

The BMW M240i xDrive Coupé has its own version of the M specific design features. These optimise the cooling air supply and aerodynamic balance. They include the high-gloss black inserts for the side air intakes, the black spoiler lip on the front apron, the model-specific rear spoiler and the trapezoidal tailpipes on the left and right of the rear apron. The exterior mirror caps of the BMW M automobile is now finished in high-gloss black.

M high-gloss Shadow Line is now also part of the standard equipment for both the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé and all other models. The M Pro Sport Package, available as an option for all variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, complements the dynamic exterior design with M Shadow Line lights, an M rear spoiler in sapphire black and the M high-gloss Shadow Line with extended features. There is also an M sport brake system with red-painted brake callipers and M seatbelts.

New paint finishes and light-alloy wheels.

The paint finishes for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé include two solid colours and seven metallic colours. The two BMW Individual paint finishes Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic are also available. Fire Red metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic are available for the first time for the two-door model. The Zandvoort Blue solid paint finish is now available exclusively for the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

All model variants of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé come as standard with 19-inch wheels. The BMW Individual range also includes a choice of new 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and Bicolour finish. All 19-inch light-alloy wheels are combined with mixed tyres.

New touches of sportiness and digitalisation on the interior.

More than ever before, the interior of the BMW 2 Series Coupé offers the ideal ambience for an intense four-seater driving experience. The rear roof line, the high centre console and the harmoniously blended surfaces of the instrument panel and door panels create an enveloping feeling of space. This is further enhanced by the anthracite-coloured headlining, part of the M Sport Package.

The interior modifications also focus on digitalisation. The BMW Curved Display plays an increasingly important role in the intuitive operation of the vehicle's functions. The fully digital display system comprises a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. It serves as a platform for the further developed BMW iDrive with QuickSelect based on the BMW Operating System 8.5. This means that the automatic air condition functions and, if fitted, the seat and steering wheel heating can be operated by touch on the Control Display or by voice command. This is accompanied by a further reduction in the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit and a corresponding redesign of the instrument panel. New control knobs on the air vents in the centre of the dashboard and on the driver's and passenger's side allow the direction of the airflow to be adjusted by turning and tilting.

The standard ambient lighting in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé also includes new waterfall lighting integrated into the covers of the central air vents. The colour and brightness of the waterfall lighting can be adjusted to suit individual preferences, with nine colour worlds to choose from. The individual colour and brightness settings are stored in a profile. They also affect the lighting in the footwell, the storage compartment in the front of the centre console and the contours of the door panels. The range of interior lighting functions also includes an atmospheric welcome and goodbye animation, including a carpet of light in the entrance area and light signals to indicate incoming calls and, optionally, an open door.

New steering wheels, seat surfaces and interior trim.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé comes with an M leather steering wheel as standard. The new version features a steering wheel rim that is flattened at the bottom, precisely modified spokes and discreet centre markings. The sporty ambience of the interior is also underlined by a red centre marker at the 12 o'clock position and contrasting stitching in the colours of BMW M GmbH. Heated sports seats for the driver and front passenger contribute to the intense driving experience in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé as standard. Electrically operated adjustment options including a memory function on the driver's side and a lumbar support are available as optional equipment. The M sport seats, also available as an optional extra, offer a wide range of adjustment options at the touch of a button, as well as lumbar support and partially integrated head restraints. With their bucket seat character and adjustable backrest width, they provide optimum lateral support during dynamic cornering. The contours of the rear seats and their integrated head restraints give them a distinctive individual character.

The new M Performtex black seats are the epitome of progressive sportiness. They come as standard in all model versions of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé. This innovative velour upholstery combines high-quality materials and a sporty design with low weight and a production process optimised for sustainability. The optional perforated Sensatec upholstery is now available in black and cognac as well as the new Tacora Red version with decorative quilting. The new black version of the Vernasca leather trim with red accents is also available as an option.

The range of optional interior trims for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé also includes some attractive additions. As an alternative to the standard Rhombus anthracite aluminium finish, the fine wood finishes Fineline light open-pore and Ash grey-blue open-pore as well as the M Carbon Fibre interior trims are now available. Additional options for customising the premium ambience of the interior in an even more exclusive way are offered by further new special equipment. “CraftedClarity” glass applications give the gear selector, the BMW Controller and the start/stop button a particularly high-quality look and feel.

Powerful and efficient engines, M Sport suspension as standard.

The drive portfolio of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé with the 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder engine at the top of the range has a unique position in the competitive environment. With the help of intelligent all-wheel drive, the 285 kW engine delivers its power to the road in a particularly confident and dynamic manner, accelerating the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

In addition to the in-line six-cylinder engine of the BMW M model, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is available with a choice of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The new BMW 220i Coupé with 135 kW and an acceleration of 7.5 seconds, and the new BMW 220d Coupé that offers a special combination of pulling power and efficiency in a sporty two-door model. It generates maximum output of 140 kW / 400Nm. This enables the new BMW 220d Coupé to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. All engines are combined with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. 

The M Sport suspension, which is fitted as standard in the four-cylinder models of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, provides a noticeable increase in agility and cornering dynamics with its firm suspension set-up and stroke-dependent shock absorbers. This is complemented by a variable sport steering system with a steering angle-dependent ratio. The new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé is optionally available with Adaptive M Chassis including variable sport steering. Its electronically controlled shock absorbers offer three characteristic maps, which can be activated according to the selected driving experience mode. The BMW M automobile is equipped as standard with an M sport differential in the final drive and an M sport brake system, which is also available as an option for the other model variants.

Intuitive operation, innovative digital services: BMW Operating System 8.5 and BMW iDrive with QuickSelect.

In the new version of the BMW 2 Series Coupé, the BMW Operating System 8.5 provides the basis for particularly intuitive and convenient operation via the enhanced BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and the use of innovative digital services. The system is now even more consistent and can be operated using the touch function on the Control Display and natural language via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The current version of BMW iDrive features a new home screen that permanently displays the map view of the navigation system or another individually selectable display on a large surface. On the driver's side, widgets are displayed at the same level in a vertical bar and can be selected directly using the QuickSelect shortcut without having to switch to a submenu. The new, flat menu structure makes it much easier to navigate between the various functions and helps the driver of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé to concentrate on the traffic situation.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can now be operated in Swedish, Polish and Dutch. There is now a choice of two visualisations for the digital companion on the Control Display. Additional graphic symbols are also displayed there in response to selected voice commands.

The BMW Maps navigation system, which comes as standard in the new BMW 2 Series Coupé as part of the BMW Live Cockpit Plus, is based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and offers even easier destination entry, additional information while driving and further optimisations for fast and precise route guidance. In conjunction with the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional, the full-colour BMW Head-Up Display is supplemented by the Augmented View function. It enhances the navigation system's map display with contextual, real-time information. A live video stream from the driver's point of view is shown on the Control Display or the Information Display and supplemented with currently relevant information such as directional arrows for precise route guidance.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé also makes it easier to link the vehicle to the customer's BMW ID and the My BMW App. Customers can use the BMW ID to pay parking fees digitally directly in the vehicle in many European countries. A personal eSIM can be activated in the vehicle as standard. It uses the 5G mobile phone standard and allows customers to use the communication and networking features of their mobile phone contract in the vehicle - even if they do not have their smartphone with them. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is available is also standard.

Significantly expanded standard equipment, targeted individualisation.

In addition to the contents of the M Sport Package, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé offers a wide range of additional standard equipment to enhance driving pleasure. This includes heated front seats, the exterior mirror package and the alarm system. The new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé is also equipped with sun protection glazing as standard.

The range of standard systems available for semi-automated driving and parking has also been extended. In the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, the Parking Assistant takes over all acceleration, braking, steering and gear shifting tasks during parking manoeuvres. Its range of functions also includes Park Distance Control with front and rear sensors as well as the Reversing Assistant.

Optional features include front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, Cruise Control with braking function and Speed Limit Info, which recognises traffic signs and includes a no-overtaking display.

Other optional systems include Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Parking Assistant Plus. The range of optional equipment also includes the High-beam Assistant, the BMW Drive Recorder, an electrically operated glass sunroof, a towbar with detachable ball head, the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System and accent surfaces in the door trim in the colours of BMW M GmbH.

New equipment packages are available for targeted individualisation. For the first time, a Premium Package is available for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé, which includes Comfort Access, adaptive LED headlights and a wireless charging tray for wireless charging of suitable smartphones. The new Innovation Package now includes the Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant Plus options as well as the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Head-Up Display.

The range also includes the model-specific M Technology Package for the BMW M240i Coupé. With an optimised cooling system for the engine and charge air cooling, as well as larger brake discs for the M sport brake system, it creates the ideal conditions for a thrilling performance experience on the race track.

A compact high-performance BMW sports car was already causing heads to turn and hearts to flutter over 40 years ago. Indeed, the BMW 2002 turbo perfectly encapsulated BMW’s resolution to deliver outstanding dynamics, exceptional agility and optimum car control. As if to demonstrate in similarly resounding style that this commitment is alive and well, BMW M GmbH can now unveil the new BMW M2. With its high-performance six-cylinder in-line engine, rear-wheel-drive agility, lightweight aluminium M Sport suspension and extrovert styling, the new BMW M2 Coupe has all the ingredients to deliver the last word in driving pleasure.

Characteristic M design.
A single glance is all it takes to pick the new BMW M2 Coupe out as a member of the BMW M family, with its styling also keen to demonstrate its dynamic attributes. Inspired by models from the history of BMW in motor racing, the new M2 Coupe makes no secret of its extraordinary performance potential. The low front apron with large air intakes, muscular flanks with characteristic M gills, 19-inch aluminium wheels in familiar M double-spoke design and low, wide rear with M-specific twin-tailpipe exhaust system all play impressive roles here. The time-honoured character of BMW M cars is also present and correct in the design of the interior. The Alcantara of the door cards and centre console together with porous carbon fibre creates an ambience of rare quality and heady sporting ambition further underlined by blue contrast stitching and M embossing on selected details. Sports seats, an M sports steering wheel and an M gearshift lever ensure BMW M2 drivers are in perfect command of their car it at all times.

The newly developed, three-litre six-cylinder in-line engine in the new BMW M2 deploys cutting-edge M TwinPower Turbo technology to develop 272 kW at 6,500 rpm (fuel consumption combined: 8.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 199 g/km)* and, in so doing, lays down a marker in the high-performance compact sports car segment. The same applies to power delivery. Peak torque of 465 Nm can be increased to as much as 500 Nm in short bursts under overboost. All of which enables the new BMW M2 Coupe with optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) and Launch Control to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. Yet, with its M DCT transmission, fuel consumption of just 7.9 litres* per 100 km and CO2 emissions of just 185 g/km*, the car is also keen to emphasise its outstanding efficiency.

Motor sport expertise.
With the lightweight aluminium front and rear axles from the BMW M3/M4 models, forged 19-inch aluminium wheels with mixed-size tyres, M Servotronic steering with two settings and suitably effective M compound brakes, the new BMW M2 Coupe has raised the bar once again in the compact high-performance sports car segment when it comes to driving dynamics. The electronically controlled Active M Differential, which optimises traction and directional stability, also plays a significant role here. And even greater driving pleasure is on the cards when the Dynamic Stability Control system’s M Dynamic Mode (MDM) is activated. MDM allows wheel slip and therefore moderate, controlled drifts on the track.

Intelligent connectivity when you want it.
The new BMW M2 Coupe comes with an extensive list of standard equipment in keeping with its performance-focused set-up. The seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic, available as an option, changes gears with extraordinary speed but no interruption in the flow of power. A wide selection of driver assistance systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive is also available. The ConnectedDrive Services provide the basis for extensive vehicle connectivity, and this option also enables the use of innovative apps, which are integrated seamlessly into the car using BMW ConnectedDrive technology. For example, the GoPro app allows the driver to record fast laps of the track with a dashboard-mounted action camera, using the iDrive Controller and Control Display. Meanwhile, the driver’s individual style at the wheel can be analysed as desired with the M Laptimer app. Information on speeds and braking points can be shared easily via e-mail or Facebook.

From powerful stock.
The new BMW M2 Coupe is not only the direct heir to the successful BMW 1 Series M Coupe, but also – in its underlying philosophy – a descendant of the original E30 BMW M3 and the BMW 2002 turbo. Extra dynamism for the exterior.
Side skirts and skirt decals with M Performance lettering lend the BMW 2 Series Convertible extra sporting appeal, as does the rear diffuser. They also match up nicely with the exclusive front grille with black trim surround and the carbon exterior mirror caps. BMW M Performance accent strips which run along the flanks of the car below the crease line inject fresh visual momentum, while attractive BMW M Performance 19-inch light-alloy wheels in 405 M and 624 M styling advance the cause of exclusive sportiness. The 624 M can be ordered in either a bi-colour (matt black / milled) or a polished variant. High-quality carbon for a more sporting interior.
The BMW M Performance Accessories range offers a host of finely matched products made from high-quality carbon (some combined with Alcantara) for the interior of the BMW 2 Series Convertible. These include the selector lever trim or – in manual cars – the gearshift lever with Alcantara gaiter, as well as a handbrake grip likewise with Alcantara gaiter. The centre console trim, centre armrest and interior trim strips can also be retrofitted in carbon as accessories. Alcantara steering wheels with carbon trim, which can be specified with or without an integrated Race Display, are impressively grippy and provide a sporty feel.

Boosting performance with the BMW M Performance Power Kit.
The BMW M Performance Power Kit for the BMW 220d Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 4.7–4.4 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 124–116 g/km)* boosts engine output by 11 kW/14 hp – from 140 kW/190 hp to 151 kW/204 hp – and cuts the car’s 0 – 100 km/h time by 0.3 seconds. To this end, the engine control unit (including engine data update) and the other hardware components, such as the larger-capacity intercooler, work together to maximum effect. However, despite the higher engine output, there is no increase in fuel consumption in the ECE test cycle. Another highlight for connoisseurs of sporty driving is the BMW M Performance limited-slip differential, which reduces slip through the driven wheels when one loses grip. This allows it to optimise traction and thus give the car’s on-limit handling even greater precision. The BMW M Performance lightweight sports brake discs optimise deceleration (even in the wet) thanks to their special perforation and grooving, and reduce unsprung mass thanks to their lower weight. They also accentuate the car’s sporting profile, especially if light-alloy wheels with an open design are fitted.

Original BMW Accessories increase the value of the car.

Midrand. The market launch of the BMW 2 Series Coupé clinches pole position in the premium compact segment. The figure 2 in the model designation represents supreme sporty flair while the letter M boasts the attractive features available for making a dynamic driving experience even more intensive.

BMW M Performance parts developed for all variants of the BMW 2 Series Coupé are now available in South Africa, with exterior components only available for the M235i to enhance its already aggressive stance, while engine tuning parts (and exterior components) are available for other models in the range.

The retrofit components designed in close collaboration with BMW M GmbH in the areas of drivetrain, suspension, aerodynamics and cockpit perceptibly boost driving dynamics as well as underscoring the athletic appearance and sporty interior ambience of the new 2-door model. The product selection forms part of the Original BMW Parts program and enables the driver of a BMW 2 Series Coupé to add a touch of individual style in a way that expresses motor racing enthusiasm.

The BMW M Performance Power Kit available for the BMW 220d Coupé creates perfect starting conditions, increasing the output of the 4-cylinder diesel engine by 12 kW to 147 kW and maximum torque by 40 Nm to 420 Nm. The increased sprint capacity achieved has no impact on fuel consumption and exhaust emission figures.

A BMW M Performance silencer system is available for the BMW M235i Coupé, which reduces exhaust gas pressure to produce a striking, sports-style sound. In addition, BMW M Performance tailpipe trim elements are offered in chrome or carbon, bearing the M logo.

Products available for all model variants include the BMW M Performance sports suspension including a lowering of 20 millimetres as compared to the standard version, as well as specific dampers and shortened coil springs finished in red, and the especially light and high-capacity BMW M Performance brake system with brake calipers painted in a choice of red, yellow or orange. Furthermore, 19-inch forged BMW M Performance light alloy wheels are also available in two design versions.

The exterior components created to optimise aerodynamic properties have been developed with rear spoiler in carbon characteristic M precision. As a supplement to the M sports package available ex works and in conjunction with the BMW M Performance there is a BMW M Performance Aerodynamic Kit available for the front apron which has been tailored specifically to this model. The combination of air ducting elements at front and rear guarantees an ideal aerodynamic balance and can be supplemented with a diffuser insert for the rear apron as well as attachments for the side skirts. Other individual accents to the outer appearance of the BMW 2 Series Coupé can be added by means of a black decorative grid for the BMW kidney grille, side mirror covers in carbon, side sill foils with M Performance inscription and BMW M Performance accent stripes in two colour versions.

A cockpit ambience inspired by motor racing is created by the BMW M Performance sports steering wheel in Alcantara/carbon finish with red central marking and Race Display in 12-o'clock position, a gear lever and handbrake handle in carbon and an Alcantara gaiter. A carbon finish is likewise available for the gear selector switch of the automatic transmission. Other features available for a highly sporty and individually designed interior include interior strips in carbon and Alcantara, high-grade steel pedals and a driver footrest in corresponding design.

World debut for the BMW M235i Racing in Las Vegas.
The venue for this week’s world debut of the BMW M235i Racing was just as spectacular as its future stomping ground – the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE): the newly-developed, entry-level racing car was presented to the international public for the first time at the “Las Vegas Motor Speedway” (US). Among those present was Martin Tomczyk (DE), who will race for BMW Team Schnitzer in the 2014 DTM. He was also involved in the development of the new car. Three questions for … Martin Tomczyk.

Martin, you were in Las Vegas for the official launch of the BMW 235i Racing. How was the reaction from the media?

Martin Tomczyk: “The feedback was more than positive. The designers’ illustrations really whet the appetite, but the BMW M235i Racing actually looks even more impressive in the flesh. Most journalists would have preferred to have taken it straight out onto the track. I have already had that privilege – and it is great fun pushing this car to the limit.”

Do you think this car will do well on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife?

Tomczyk: “Of course. BMW and the Nordschleife go hand in hand anyway, and it is great to see a new car like this breathing new life into this long tradition. For those starting out in motorsport, it will be a joy to taken on the ‘Green Hell’ in the BMW M235i Racing. The new format of the BMW M235i Racing Cup is also extremely interesting – and exactly what BMW fans want to see at the Ring.”

You are racing for BMW Team Schnitzer in the 2014 DTM. How are you approaching the season in a new team?

Tomczyk: “I am really looking forward to the 2014 season. The Bavarian ‘trio’ of BMW Motorsport, BMW Team Schnitzer and myself is a nice combination. For this reason, I hope we are able to mix it with the front runners right from the word go. My goal remains to win the DTM title with BMW. I am really motivated to take another step towards this goal in 2014.”

“Gala der Meister” 2014: BMW Motorsport well represented at the DMSB award ceremony.

In keeping with tradition, the Deutsche Motor Sport Bund (DMSB – German Motor Sport Federation) recognised the performances of the most successful drivers, teams and manufacturers of the past DTM season on Saturday. BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt was presented with the trophy for the champion manufacturer by DMSB President, Hans-Joachim Stuck (DE), at the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden (DE). Augusto Farfus (BR), who made the trip from Brazil to Germany especially to be at the gala evening, and Bruno Spengler (CA) were honoured for their second and third places in the Drivers’ Championship. Bart Mampaey (BE) was there on behalf of BMW Team RBM to collect the trophy for finishing second in the team competition. “Three of the best manufacturers in the world go head to head in the DTM,” said Marquardt. “Given this, I am very proud that we were able to defend the title we won in 2012.”
