DNA. The BMW Z4 is a prime example: truly exhilarating roadster fun.
Since the start of the first model generation in 2002, this open-top
sports car has been wowing customers with its unique combination of
peerless design, a purist driving experience and sporty dynamics. The
upcoming BMW Z4 Final Edition provides fans with a time-limited
opportunity to order a very special version of this vehicle – one that
may well become a collectors’ item. It comes with specific equipment
elements that create individual highlights on the outside as well as
in the interior. At the same time, the Final Edition represents this
iconic two‑seater’s crowning glory. Production of the BMW Z4 will come
to an end in March 2026.

Distinctive looks for an unmistakeable personality.

The distinguishing exterior feature of the BMW Z4 Final Edition is
its exclusive Frozen Matt Black paint finish. This colour, which
underlines the model’s individual and dynamic flair, is only available
for the Final Edition of the BMW Z4. It looks particularly impressive
when combined with the M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, which is
part of all Final Edition models. In addition to Frozen Matt Black,
customers can select other colours from the BMW Z4 range, at no extra
cost. The M Sport brake in High-gloss Red is also included with the
BMW Z4 Final Edition. It impresses with particularly effective
  deceleration and attractive looks.

  Red accents in the interior.

The distinctive contrasting red seams selected especially for the
Final Edition provide a literal common thread which, in this case,
ties together the instrument panel, centre console, door trims and M
  Sport seats in Vernasca

Leather/Alcantara. Another attractive eye-catcher is the M Alcantara
steering wheel with contrasting seams to match. It accentuates the
sporty character of the BMW Z4 Final Edition to perfection, while
specially engraved door sill strips enhance its exclusivity.

The history of the BMW Z4: Launch of the first generation in 2002.

The BMW Z4 is part of a long-standing BMW tradition of open-top
two‑seater sports cars. This successful lineage includes icons such as
the BMW 328 Roadster, the BMW 507 and the BMW Z8.

The BMW Z4 had its premiere in autumn 2002, as the direct successor
to the BMW Z3 launched in 1995. And, like its predecessor, the BMW
roadster known internally as the E85 series was produced at the BMW
Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina.

With its long bonnet and short rear, the design of the BMW Z4
signalled power and sporting prowess. In the cabin, the low seating
position just in front of the rear axle made for an unforgettable
roadster driving experience. The BMW Z4 set new standards with a
torsional stiffness previously unmatched in the convertible and
roadster segment. Its supreme agility was also due to its 50/50 weight
distribution. The BMW Z4 M Roadster was the first generation’s
  range-topper. Fitted with the 252 kW/340 hp six-cylinder in-line
engine from the BMW M3, it accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.

The second BMW Z4 generation: Unchanged dynamic appeal,
    electro-hydraulic retractable hardtop as standard.

In December 2008 BMW introduced the second generation of the Z4 to
the world. The new two-seater known internally as the E89 model series
again combined classic proportions with leading-edge engineering.

It came with a completely new, electro-hydraulically retractable
hardtop made up of two roof sections. Featuring an aluminium shell
design, the hardtop was included as standard and could be opened or
closed at the touch of a button in just 20 seconds. With the hardtop
in place, the BMW Z4 offered the refined comfort of a sporty premium
coupé. The interior of the new BMW Z4 had gained much over the
first-generation model in terms of headroom and elbow room. In
addition, this marked the first time the roadster used the BMW iDrive
  infotainment system.

The third-generation BMW Z4: Modern interpretation of the
    classic open-top sports car.

BMW premiered the third – and current – generation of the BMW Z4 in
August 2018 at Pebble Beach Golf Links near Monterey, California. The
BMW Z4 world premiere revealed a modern interpretation of the classic
open-top sports car. A premium roadster boasting an electrically
operated fabric softtop, sporty handling and a purist, driver-focused
interior design. This was complemented by premium-quality driver
assistance, infotainment and connectivity features. Unparalleled in
this segment is the three-litre straight-six engine with M TwinPower
Turbo technology in the BMW Z4 M40i, which has been offered with a
manual transmission since 2024 as the Pure Impulse Edition. The Final
Edition will be the pinnacle of the third-generation BMW Z4.

Press Contact: Rami Joudi
Tel: +971-56-507-5762
E-mail: rami.joudi@bmwgroup.com

Press Release,Z4,G29,Product,BMW

Munich. Long bonnet, short overhangs, low centre of
gravity, soft top: the sporty two-seater doing its laps at the BMW
test centre in Miramas in the south of France is instantly
recognisable as a purebred roadster. The new BMW Z4 is currently
undergoing another particularly important stage of the process towards
serial production maturity, in this case involving driving dynamics
testing of a heavily disguised prototype. This will provide key
insights into the performance properties of the new model, whose
genuine roadster characteristics, pure driving pleasure and
captivating sporty flair will soon go out on public roads.

Trials at the Autodrome de Miramas are focusing on fine-tuning of all
drive and suspension systems – the basis for the sporty driving
experience offered by the new BMW Z4. The most intense form of new
dynamic roadster performance is embodied by the BMW Z4 M40i. A new,
extremely powerful in-line 6-cylinder engine, a lowered sports
suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed
front axle, M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres, an M sports brake
system and an electronically controlled lock in the rear axle
differential create an overall package that sees the BMW M Performance
model setting a whole new benchmark for driving pleasure in the
  roadster segment.

"The vehicle concept of the new BMW Z4 is geared consistently
towards agility and driving dynamics," explains Jos van As, Head
of Application Suspension. "The high level of body stiffness and
the very rigid suspension attachment provide the perfect basis for a
set-up that guarantees the performance qualities of a genuine sports
car in terms of steering precision as well as longitudinal and
  transverse acceleration."

Like the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the Miramas test centre offers
perfect conditions for the new BMW Z4 to demonstrate its driving
dynamics potential. Used by BMW to develop and test new models for
more than 30 years, the centre comprises a long asphalt oval and a
motorway ring road for high-speed tests as well as slalom, serpentine
and circular tracks and a number of handling courses and circuits
featuring highly diverse types of surface. These are currently being
used for detailed analysis and optimisation of the roadster's
acceleration, steering and brake response. For example, the final form
of the adaptive M suspension as it interacts with the rear axle
limited-slip differential is developed on a circuit that is also used
for testing purposes by BMW Motorsport.

This intense testing process already indicates that the new version
of the roadster concept will offer a tangible increase in sporty flair
in the new BMW Z4. The new generation will particularly introduce
effective enhancements in terms of agile handling, spontaneity and
precision when changing direction and accelerating in dynamic style

technology defines the unmistakable character of the BMW Z4 – and now
an updated version of the Roadster is ready for action, armed with a
raft of additional powertrain and equipment innovations. The new
BMW Z4 represents a time-honoured and yet alluringly contemporary
interpretation of the traditional roadster concept. New exterior
features, detailed interior refinements, the new Design Pure Traction
equipment package, the new entry-level sDrive18i model and the latest
additions to the range of BMW ConnectedDrive features all provide
fresh impetus and lend the BMW Roadster even greater appeal and individuality.

The new BMW Z4 takes to the stage 25 years after the legendary
BMW Z1. That Roadster turned heads when it was unveiled at the 1987
International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt – not only on account of
its revolutionary door concept, but also thanks to its agile and
precisely controllable handling. With the BMW Z1 began the latest
chapter in the history of BMW Roadsters – a tradition which stretches
back to the 1930s and reached the first of many high points with the
BMW 328 (winner of the 1940 Mille Miglia) and BMW 507 from 1955. The
BMW Z3 and BMW Z8 triggered a fresh wave of excitement for the
classical open-top two-seater concept in the 1990s. And they also
paved the way for the first-generation BMW Z4 and its successor, the
brand’s first Roadster fitted with a retractable hardtop roof.

Design: classical proportions infused with modern
  character.
The success of modern-day BMW Roadsters is
rooted in the rigorous execution of a concept, a process which has
left its mark on both the design and the driving properties of each
car and is clearly recognisable in the new BMW Z4. The sweeping
bonnet, long wheelbase, low beltline and low-slung rear end play a
more vivid and uncompromising part in shaping its appearance than is
evident with any of its segment rivals. The low seating position just
ahead of the rear axle gives the driver and passenger a particularly
intense experience of the longitudinal and lateral forces working on
the rear wheels. This sense of being “part of the car” also allows the
driver to grade the amount of power he’s feeding through the rear axle
with sensitivity and precision. That’s the recipe for roadster
  feeling, BMW-style.

The hardtop roof also blends seamlessly into the car’s form. As it
closes, it seals a smoothly flowing roofline, while large window
  surfaces optimise
all-round visibility and the feeling of space
inside the car. Once opened, the two roof elements are accommodated,
one on top of the other, in a compact package inside the Roadster’s
road-hugging rear. The A-pillars – painted an understated black – also
underline the low-slung silhouette of the new BMW Z4, especially when
the roof is open. The optional BMW Individual hardtop – available in
the two contrast colours Black non-metallic and Glacier Silver
metallic – provides a feast for the eyes when the roof is closed. The
hardtop can be opened at the touch of a button while the car is moving
at up to 40 km/h (25 mph) in an automated process lasting 19 seconds.

The distinctive twin circular headlights team up with the broad BMW
kidney grille to form a roadster-specific interpretation of the
brand’s signature front-end look. The standard bi-xenon headlights of
the new BMW Z4 have an extremely slim design and extend well into the
front wheel arches. They feature LED light rings which emit daytime
driving light in the brand’s hallmark style. Added to which, the light
sources now have a strikingly three-dimensional design which
accentuates the intricate technology of the headlights. Cutting across
the tops of the headlights are LED accent lights, whose metal insert
bears BMW lettering. The integrated turn signal indicators have
chrome-coloured surrounds, which lend further emphasis to the
sophisticated character of the light units. Plus, a newly designed,
tapered surround for the side indicators adds a dynamic sweep to the
gills on the front side sections of the car.

Striking touches: new paint finishes, Design Pure Traction
equipment package, additional light-alloy wheels and the M Sport
  package.
A total of 11 external paint finishes are
available for the new BMW Z4, including the new Mineral Grey metallic,
Glacier Silver metallic and Valencia Orange metallic, which can only
be ordered together with the Design Pure Traction option. This new
equipment package lends the Roadster an extremely lively aura; the
interior, for example, boasts an energy-charged contrast of black and
orange. The bespoke Alcantara door panel trim, like the lower section
of the instrument panel, comes in orange. The black leather seats have
contrast stitching in Valencia Orange and an accent stripe running
down the central section of the backrests and seat cushions. This
stripe is likewise orange and is flanked by two thin white lines. The
door panel trim and lower section of the instrument panel can also be
specified in black as an option. Another exclusive element of the
Design Pure Traction package is the metal weave trim strip, which can
be combined with further decorative elements in high-gloss black for
the door openers and the gearshift or selector lever. This new
equipment package replaces the previously available Design Pure
Impulse and is also available in combination with other exterior paint
  colours as an option.

New interior additions to standard specification include high-gloss
black surrounds for the central air vents and the iDrive control
system’s folding Control Display, which comes as part of the optional
Professional navigation system. Elsewhere, exquisite Fineline
Anthracite wood has been added to the selection of interior trim
strips available as an option for the new BMW Z4. The
  BMW Z4 sDrive28i, BMW Z4 sDrive35i and BMW Z4 sDrive35is are offered
with Kansas leather trim, which is available as an option for the two
  other models.

New variants have been added to the range of optional light-alloy
wheels as well, including newly designed 17-inch and 18-inch wheels in
V-spoke design, both of which will be combined with mixed tyres.

The engaging character of the Roadster as a driver’s tool is given
particular emphasis by the likewise optional M Sport package, which
  contributes M Sport suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M
aerodynamics package with large air intakes in the front wing and a
rear bumper inlay painted Anthracite metallic. Bringing an extra dose
of sporting flair into the interior, meanwhile, are features such as
sports seats, an M leather steering wheel, M driver’s footrest, M door
sill finishers and an anthracite-coloured roof liner. The Aluminium
Carbon trim strip, leather M gear lever knob and grey dials for the
instrument cluster lend the finishing touches to the interior
ambience. The new BMW Z4 sDrive35is comes as standard with a
model-specific version of the M Sport package.

Engines: BMW TwinPower Turbo technology at five output
  levels.
The BMW Z4 will be available with a larger,
five-strong line-up of petrol engines from launch, and customers will
be able to choose from three four-cylinder and two six-cylinder
powerplants. Their most significant shared feature is BMW TwinPower
Turbo technology, which ensures an exceptionally effective balance
between driving pleasure and fuel consumption throughout the output
range. In addition, all four-cylinder variants of the new BMW Z4
already meet – as standard – the stipulations of the EU6 exhaust
emissions standard due to come into force in 2014.

The BMW Z4 sDrive18i takes to the stage as the new entry-level model.
It is powered by a 2.0-litre engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo
technology which develops maximum output of 115 kW/156 hp at
5,000 rpm. The new variant of the four-cylinder unit delivers peak
  torque of 240 Newton metres (177 lb-ft) between 1,250 and 4,400 rpm.
The BMW Z4 sDrive18i is fitted as standard with a six-speed manual
gearbox, but an eight-speed sports automatic can also be ordered as an
option. The new model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in
7.9 seconds (automatic: 8.1 seconds) and hits a top speed of 221 km/h
  / 137 mph (220 km/h / 136.5 mph). Average fuel consumption for the
BMW Z4 sDrive18i in the EU test cycle is 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres
(41.5 mpg imp) with both the manual and automatic gearbox. CO2
emissions stand at 159 grams per kilometre.

The BMW TwinPower Turbo technology package for the new
BMW Z4 sDrive18i includes twin-scroll turbocharging, High Precision
Direct Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control and
Double-Vanos continuously variable camshaft control. An identical
version of this technology package is also used in the engines –
likewise 2.0-litre units – under the bonnet of the BMW Z4 sDrive20i
and BMW Z4 sDrive28i. These engines can also be ordered with an
eight-speed sports automatic gearbox with shift paddles on the
steering wheel as an alternative to the standard-fitted six-speed
manual. The automatic has been optimised to deliver even better
  acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph).

The existing engine variants – the sDrive20i, sDrive28i, sDrive35i
and sDrive35is – retain their places in the range.

  Extensive comfort-enhancing equipment.
The new
BMW Z4 delivers the driving pleasure customers have come to expect
from the brand, fulfilling the desire for both sporting ability and
comfort. Drivers can use the standard-fitted Driving Experience
Control switch to select a configuration to suit the situation at hand
and satisfy personal preferences. COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes can
all be called up using the rocker switch on the centre console. As
well as adjusting the responses of the engine and DSC stability
system, the different modes also alter the shift characteristics of
the automatic gearbox, the responses of the Servotronic function and
the mapping of the electronically controlled dampers, if these items
are specified. These modes allow the driver to choose from a selection
of distinctive and clearly differentiated set-ups for the car.

Other items of equipment fitted as standard are xenon headlights, air
conditioning, a heated glass rear window, the Soft Close Automatic
function for the boot lid and runflat tyres with a run-flat indicator.
The BMW Business radio – including CD player, AUX-IN socket and six
loudspeakers – is a standard feature in all the variants of the
Roadster, while customers can also choose from options including the
BMW Professional radio and the Professional hi-fi-system with
14 loudspeakers. The similarly optional Professional navigation system
enables high-resolution map graphics – complete with 3D view – on the
8.8-inch iDrive monitor. The navigation data for the system is stored
on an in-car hard disk, which also provides 12 GB of capacity for
  personal music collections.

The range of driver assistance systems and mobility services from
BMW ConnectedDrive has also expanded once again. The new BMW Z4 can be
equipped with features such as a rain sensor, Adaptive Headlights and
High Beam Assistant. Cruise control with braking function and Park
Distance Control with sensors at the front and rear of the car are
also available. If the Professional navigation system is specified,
the ConnectedDrive Services option allows use of internet-based
information and entertainment services inside the car. This system
must be fitted to enable access to the BMW Online portal and apps
using the Control Display and iDrive Controller. The Real Time Traffic
Information function is also on hand, supplying the driver with
congestion warnings and diversion recommendations in real time. Apple
iPhone owners can use BMW apps, for example, to receive web radio
stations, display Facebook and Twitter posts on the monitor and ask
for them to be read out. The range of BMW ConnectedDrive features
available for the new BMW Z4 also includes BMW TeleServices,
BMW Remote Services, Concierge Services and Intelligent Emergency Call
with automatic vehicle location and accident severity detection.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

Press Kit,Z4,Product,BMW

  Munich
. The interplay of classical proportions and
can be equipped with features such as a rain sensor, Adaptive
  Headlights
and High Beam Assistant. Cruise control with braking
  function and
Park Distance Control with sensors at the front and
  rear of the car are
also available. If the Professional
navigation system is specified, the ConnectedDrive Services option
allows use of internet-based information and entertainment services
inside the car. This system must be fitted to enable access to the
BMW Online portal and apps using the Control Display and iDrive
Controller. The Real Time Traffic Information function is also on

Munich. With its athletic design, agile handling and
powerful engine, the BMW Z4 has achieved outstanding success in the
class of premium roadsters, having been the worldwide segment leader
in 2009 and 2010. Towards the end of the year, the BMW Z4 is to
feature another technological highlight: a completely newly developed
2-litre engine with TwinPower Turbo technology and an output of 176
kW/240 bhp. Its name is BMW Z4sDrive28i.

Thanks to TwinPower Turbo technology, the new supercharged
4-cylinder petrol engine with all-aluminium crankcase, already
available in the BMW X1 xDrive28i, provides increased torque,
improved performance and much reduced fuel consumption and
emission levels as compared to the existing 6-cylinder induction
engine model BMW Z4 sDrive30. The absolute figures, including those
for the driving performance of the new BMW Roadster, are expected to
  be finalised mid-year.

This newly developed engine in the BMW Z4 sDrive 28i uses the
globally unique BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. In other words it is
fitted with High Precision Injection as well as a turbocharger powered
via two exhaust ducts. Other elements of this progressive engine
package include the variable camshaft control system double VANOS and
the fully variable valve control system VALVETRONIC.

The new 2-litre petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in
the BMW Z4 sDrive28i thus sets a further milestone in the BMW
  EfficientDynamics strategy.

Combining classic proportions with
modern sportiness, the new BMW Z4 has reached the top of its market
segment almost overnight. And now this charismatic roadster is
entering a new dimension in driving dynamics, the new BMW Z4
sDrive35is offering an even higher standard of performance ensured
both by the modified straight-six power unit with BMW Twin Turbo
Technology and High Precision Injection, on the one hand, and by
BMW’s seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation
and the M Sports Package including the adaptive M Suspension likewise
featured as standard, on the other. Appropriate optimisation in engine
technology increases maximum output of the 3.0-litre power unit to 250
  kW/340 hp. Peak torque is 450 Newton-metres/332 lb-ft, increasing
briefly with the Overboost function to 500 Newton-metres/369 lb-ft.
The outstanding power and performance of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is
expressed in particular by the significant increase in pulling power
and muscle to be clearly experienced in all situations. In conjunction
with seven-speed Sport Automatic featuring double clutch operation,
  this new top-of-the-range

Roadster accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in
    just 4.8 seconds.

At 9.0 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 26.1 mpg US) and 210 grams in
the EU test cycle, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are the same as
on the BMW Z4 sDrive35i with Sport Automatic.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is is making its world debut at the 2010 North
American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. And parallel to
the market launch of this high-performance roadster in spring 2010,
the M Sports Package is being introduced for all further versions of
  the BMW Z4.

More air, more boost, more torque, more driving pleasure.

The twin-turbo straight-six power unit already giving the BMW Z4
sDrive35i truly impressive dynamics and all-round performance is
characterised in particular by its spontaneous and direct response to
the gas pedal, fascinating free-revving performance, and unusually
economical use of fuel for a car in this class.

Now the outstanding potential of this power unit is being put to
even greater use in the new version of the BMW Roadster, features such
as optimised air supply and increased boost pressure ensuring an even
better flow of power with the same high standard of efficiency.

The combination of BMW Twin Turbo Technology and High Precision
Injection offers a level of performance a naturally-aspirated power
unit would only be able to provide with a larger number of cylinders
and extra displacement, meaning far higher weight and significantly
  greater fuel consumption.

Instead, the BMW Twin Turbo power unit uses two small turbochargers
which, through their low inertia, cut in from the start at relatively
low engine speeds, each supplying three cylinders with compressed air.
As a result, power and performance are built up with a level of
spontaneity quite unusual on a turbocharged engine. The turbocharger
system developed for the power unit of the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is
maintains a high boost pressure throughout the entire load range. Peak
  torque now increased to 450 Newton-metres or 332 lb-ft comes from a
low 1,400 rpm and is maintained consistently all the way to 4,500 rpm.
Maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp, in turn, is delivered at 5,800 rpm.

Overboost function for particularly dynamic
  acceleration.
Modified engine management on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is
also allows the use of an Overboost function briefly increasing engine
torque under full load by another 50 Newton-metres or 37 lb-ft. The
peak thus offered of 500 Newton-metres/369 lb-ft gives the car
particularly fast, dynamic and powerful acceleration, the BMW Z4
  sDrive35is completing the sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h (62
  mph) in just 4.8 seconds.

Through its particular characteristics, the power unit offers a
particularly intense experience of this supreme performance. The extra
  output of the optimized
six-cylinder is maintained consistently
throughout all load ranges, above all under very dynamic driving conditions.

When accelerating in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the driver feels the
additional torque and muscle particularly at medium and high engine
speeds. Following the policy of the BMW Group, finally, top speed of
the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is limited electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

High Precision Injection: the efficient way to supreme performance.
The BMW Z4 sDrive35is offers its outstanding power and
performance consistently at all times. But this does not mean an
increase in fuel consumption and emissions. On the contrary –
averaging fuel consumption of 9.0 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 26.1
mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 210 grams per kilometre in the EU test
cycle, the new top model offers the same superiority also in this
respect as the BMW Z4 sDrive35i with Sport Automatic.

This unusually good balance of performance and fuel consumption
results from the fundamental design and layout of the six-cylinder
combining BMW Twin Turbo Technology with High Precision Injection. So
once again, the qualities of direct gasoline injection featured in
this engine come out very clearly, piezo-injectors positioned in the
cylinder head between the valves and therefore in the immediate
vicinity of the spark plugs ensuring particularly precise dosage of
fuel and a clean combustion process.

Opening up to the outside, the injectors operate at a pressure
of up to 200 bar, distributing fuel in a conical spray pattern
throughout the entire combustion chamber. A further advantage of such
direct fuel injection is the cooling effect allowing higher
compression and making the combustion process even more efficient.

Through their concept alone, the turbochargers likewise help to
reduce fuel consumption. Since the turbines are made of special steel
particularly resistant to high temperatures and therefore able to cope
with temperatures of more than 1,000° C or 1,830° F, there is
no need for an increased fuel supply with its cooling effect.
Particularly under full load, this ensures a significant advantagein
  fuel economy.

Further technologies offered as standard by BMW EfficientDynamics
such as Brake Energy Regeneration, EPS Electric Power Steering and
on-demand control and management of ancillary units likewise help to
reduce both fuel consumption and emissions.

Characteristic engine sound accompanying the dynamic surge of
  power.
The modified six-cylinder also comes with special features
on the engine block itself in the interest of even greater strength
and stiffness. The exhaust system of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, in turn,
has been developed specifically for this model, appropriate sound
engineering giving the car a very characteristic and truly impressive
  sound pattern.
This particular distinction tailored to the BMW Z4
sDrive35is is ensured by special sound flaps and modifications on the
silencers. The driver and passenger therefore experience powerful
acoustic feedback to their wish for performance, without the sound of
the engine becoming obtrusive, let alone annoying, at any time. So the
sound experience is characterised by a particularly deep rumble with
the focus above all on the low frequency range.

Seven-speed Sport Automatic with a special control map and an
    optimised two-mass flywheel.

The seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation featured
in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is likewise offers the very best in driving
dynamics and efficiency. A particular highlight in this case is the
two-mass flywheel laid out particularly for an even higher level of
power and performance, offering even greater strength and stability
and naturally handling high engine torque of up to 500 Newton-metres
or 369 lb-ft without the slightest problem.

The seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation shifts
gears without the slightest interruption of torque and engine power,
offering the driver the choice of an automatic gearshift or the manual
selection of gears. The fast and particularly smooth change of gears
ensures unusually harmonious acceleration and serves in addition to
reduce both fuel consumption and emissions.

The control map on the seven-speed Sport Automatic transmission with
double clutch has naturally been tailored to the particular power and
performance of the engine, thus further enhancing the superior
sportiness of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is to an even higher level.
Particularly when shifting gears manually and in conjunction with the
SPORT and SPORT+ modes of Dynamic Driving Control, the transmission
offers a most dynamic experience through modified gearshift points,
optimised selection of gears and an even greater increase in torque
  before shifting.

Sport Automatic also comes with a Launch Control function for maximum
performance when accelerating from a standstill.

The Sport Automatic transmission is controlled and masterminded by an
electronic gear selector on the centre console and comes with
gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.

    Package and adaptive M Suspension.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is also comes as standard with an M Sports Package
including the M Aerodynamics Package and adaptive M Suspension
featuring electronically controlled dampers for even greater agility
without making any concessions in terms of comfort. The M Sports
Package underlines the dynamic character of the car through its
aerodynamically optimised exterior features and customised interior
design. Special 18-inch light-alloy rims in five-spoke design combined
with tyres of different size front and rear round off the sporting
character of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, with 19-inch light-alloy rims
  available an option.

The adaptive M Suspension lowers the entire car by 10 millimetres or
almost 0.4”, ensuring a quick reaction to sudden steering
manoeuvres and superior precision when entering a bend thanks to four
continuously adjustable twin-sleeve gas-pressure dampers with
interacting adjustment of the inbound and rebound strokes. The central
control unit processing data delivered by three accelerometers and
adjusting the four dampers independently of one another enables the
suspension to respond very quickly to even the slightest change in
driving and road conditions. Damper harshness, in turn, is adjusted by
externally fitted valves controlling the flow of damper fluid, giving
the dampers either a harder or softer set-up in accordance with
current conditions and driving requirements. Reaction time of the
system is extremely short, with the rear dampers being adjusted
immediately as soon as the front wheels run over a hole or bump in the road.

Electric Power Steering on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is features a
particularly sporting and dynamic control map, with the focus on
intense and clear feedback to the driver through the dosage of power
assistance provided by the electric motor. Again, this enables the
driver to enter bends with extreme precision at all engine speeds in
  the interest of enhanced performance.

M Sports Package offering a most direct experience of the car’s
dynamic potential – and available as an option also on the other
  models in the range.

The exterior and interior features of the M Sports Package coming as
standard on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is raises the dynamic driving potential
of the car to an even higher level and clearly presents the particular
qualities of this model through its looks alone.

Upon introduction of the new top model in the range, the M Sports
Package is also becoming available as an option on the other versions
of BMW’s unique Roadster. The only difference is that instead of
the wheels exclusive to the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the other models come
  with 18-inch M light-alloy wheels on the
M Sports Package.

The particular exterior features on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is include a
striking front bumper with a horizontal trim bar in the outer air
intakes finished in matt aluminium, like the bars in the BMW kidney
grille. The slightly twisted contours of these trim bars take up the
spoke design of the light-alloy rims as a further sign of distinction.

The rear bumper comes with specially accentuated surrounds on the
exhaust tailpipes as well as a two-piece diffuser again created
specifically for the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, finished at the top in body
colour and featuring a black grained surface at the bottom. The M
Aerodynamics Package included in the optional M Sports Package also on
the other versions of the Z4 Roadster furthermore comes with a rear
  bumper insert in Anthracite metallic.

Inside the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the driving experience is enhanced to
an even higher standard by features such as the M leather steering
wheel with its gearshift paddles, an M footrest and sports seats. The
instrument cluster comes with grey faces on the dials and the
“sDrive35is” model designation in the instrument cluster.

Further features inside the BMW Z4 sDrive35is are the
Anthracite-coloured BMW Individual roof lining, M entry strips,
footmats with coloured piping and the “sDrive35is” model
designation, as well as M interior trim in Aluminium carbon.

The M Sports Package on the other versions of the Z4 Roadster
includes an M gearshift lever knob in leather on the manual gearbox
models. At the same time the range of leather upholstery is being
further enhanced by an additional colour variant marking the launch of
the BMW Z4 sDrive35is: Both the top model and all other versions of
the Z4 Roadster are now also available in Kansas Walnut leather as yet
  a further option.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is comes with a choice of six paintwork colours.
In addition to Alpine White and the metallic colours Titanium Silver,
Sapphire Black, Space Grey and Deep Sea Blue, the Z4 Roadster is now
available for the first time in Melbourne Red metallic.

Regardless of the colour chosen, the exterior mirror caps on the BMW
Z4 sDrive35is always come in Oxide Silver. Another optical feature on
the top model, finally, is the “sDrive35is” model
designation on the front side panels.

Even before
it reaches the market, the new BMW Z4 is literally making its mark. For
the first time ever, the core theme of the communications campaign that
will launch the new BMW Z4 is a motif created by the vehicle itself.
Instead of a paintbrush, South African street artist Robin Rhode used
the tyres of the BMW Z4 roadster to apply explosive, vibrantly coloured
designs to an enormous canvas - in this case a gigantic medium density
fibreboard - with tyre tracks of precisely executed circles, arcs and
lines in yellow, blue and red. The outcome is "An Expression of
Joy" - just like the BMW Z4 itself. The roadster unites aesthetic
appeal and dynamic performance; it epitomises the qualities of the BMW
brand by combining the ultimate driving experience with maximum
sporting potential and distinctive design. More than anything, the new
BMW Z4 is an expression of sheer driving pleasure. The head of marketing
for the BMW brand in Germany, Manfred Bräunl, is confident that:
"The BMW Z4 embodies the values of the BMW brand - design,
youthfulness, dynamic performance - more than any other vehicle. The
launch campaign for the new roadster expresses these values
exceptionally well. This campaign will also reach out to new target
groups who appreciate the high standards of elegance and value,
suitability for everyday driving and comfort which the new BMW Z4 can
easily fulfil." Motif created by the BMW Z4 as global campaign
theme The 1800 m² motif - featuring the BMW Z4's brightly coloured
tyre tracks on a white background - and the process by which it was
created, will be the subject of all communications activities for the
launch of the new roadster worldwide. This creative key visual is ideal
for use in print ads and brochures, as well as for trade shows and
guerrilla marketing. For instance, the BMW Z4's world premiere at the
NAIAS International Auto Show in Detroit incorporated original sections
of the motif. There is currently a further installation at the Grand
Central Terminal in New York; extracts from the campaign are also being
shown at the "BMW Markenschaufenstern" in Munich and Berlin
as well as at BMW Welt. The creative process behind "An
Expression of Joy" The commercial that will be used for
advertising worldwide illustrates how the huge canvas was created and
shows "An Expression of Joy" live in action. The briefing
given to Robin Rhode and the director of the TV commercial, Jake Scott,
was to present the new generation of the BMW Z4 in a completely
different setting, in a way that would fuse innovation and artistic
vision. Scott and his team had just twelve hours to document the
artistic process on location at a studio in Los Angeles. The challenge
was to get the right shot the first time round - repeat attempts were
not an option on a shoot like this. The new BMW Z4 also had to be
controlled with absolute precision: The driver had to apply a total of
160 litres of paint - sprayed onto the tyres from nozzles mounted
behind its wheels - precisely according to artist Robin Rhode's
directions across the oversized canvas: a difficult task which the stunt
driver was nevertheless able to master, having already proven his
skills behind the wheel of a MINI on the film set of "The Italian
Job". A total of 45 cameras captured the Z4's movements
simultaneously. Print ads Print ads also develop the track theme with
the new roadster standing on sections of the motif it created, paired
with various slogans along the lines of: "Your 306-horsepower
paintbrush" or "Evidence that engineering is an art
form". These slogans establish the connection between "An
Expression of Joy" and the new BMW Z4. Mobile gaming To mark
the launch of the roadster, a game entitled "BMW Z4 - An Expression
of Joy" has been developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game
focuses on the BMW Z4 driving experience and features a flexible 3D
auto configurator. Highly-detailed 3D models and animations were
developed from the roadster's original computer-aided 3D design data.
Players first configure their individual BMW Z4 and design their own
five-colour motif by driving the virtual roadster across a white
background. The motif's design varies according to the vehicle's speed
and curve radius, making every picture unique. The game, which has been
available for the iPhone and iPod Touch since March 10th, has already
been downloaded well over 400,000 times. Videos and background on the
new BMW Z4 available online BMW's online video portals www.bmw-tv.de
and www.bmw-web.tv/z4 offer five features with more information on the
new BMW Z4. For instance, BMW Group's new head of design, Adrian van
Hooydonk, explains how the roadster's unique design took shape and
talks about the roadster winning the Red Dot Design Award. There is a
video of the new BMW Z4's world premiere in Detroit; also, the design
process and the concept behind the BMW Z4 are discussed in more detail.
These features are proving very popular and have already been viewed
more than 800,000 times since December of last year. Guerrilla
marketing The new BMW Z4's multi-coloured tyre tracks are perfect for
different kinds of guerrilla marketing. For instance, one idea might be
to plaster the colourful tyre tracks right across the side of a
building, with the tracks leading down to the road where a BMW Z4 is
parked or to a BMW dealership. Customers can expect to experience
unconventional marketing in familiar surroundings. BMW and
contemporary art The BMW Group has been closely linked with
contemporary art for many years. For more than thirty years the
company's Art Cars have presented outstanding contemporary artists with
the three-dimensional surface of various sports cars as a canvas for
their work. The BMW Art Car Collection has since gained international
renown and comprises the creations of well-known artists such as Andy
Warhol, Frank Stella, Alexander Calder and Olafur Eliasson. Today,
commitment to the arts is an integral part of corporate communications
at the BMW Group. The new BMW Z4 The new BMW Z4 is the only vehicle
in its segment to combine classic roadster proportions with a seating
position close to the rear axle, rear-wheel drive and a fully-automatic
retractable hardtop. The new BMW Z4 offers all the driving pleasure of
a BMW Roadster with particularly refined and stylish flair. Driving
with the roof down, this two-seater offers a refreshingly intense
experience of the sunshine and the wind rushing by - and driving with
the hardtop closed, it provides all the comfort of a Premium Sports
Coupé. With this diversity and wide range of qualities, the new
BMW Z4 represents the re-birth of the roadster. The design of the new
Z4 is characterised by classic details interpreted in a new and
contemporary style. The appeal of this two-seater lies in its unique
combination of elegance, agility, and supreme comfort. The aluminium
shells of the two-piece lightweight hardtop come to rest in the roof
compartment, thereby maximising space. Even with the roof closed, the
new Z4 retains the proportions typical of a genuine roadster. With these
features, the new model is the successor to both the BMW Z4 Roadster and
the BMW Z4 Coupé. Anyone who appreciates the open-air feeling
characteristic of a BMW convertible can look forward to the new BMW Z4,
which will be available at BMW branches and dealers from May 9th. This
aesthetic, dynamic roadster will definitely leave its mark wherever it
goes - not just on the launch campaign, but on those who see it and
drive it. Agency The American agency GSD&M from Austin, Texas was
responsible for creating and implementing the campaign.
The BMW Z4 Roadster and the BMW Z4 Coupe in the model year 2008: Exclusive editions and increased efficiency.

Whether the sheer elegance and fun of open-air driving in the
Roadster, or the uncompromising sportiness of the Coupe - in either
case the BMW Z4 is the embodiment of BMW-characteristic driving
pleasure in a particularly intensive form. In the model year 2008, the
racy two-seater will become even more attractive thanks to new
equipment features. The special editions Exclusive and Sport, which are
now available for the BMW Z4 Roadster and, starting October 2007, also
for the BMW Z4 Coupe, include an attractive combination of premium
equipment packages. Thanks to the new editions, the BMW Z4 Roadster and
the BMW Z4 Coupe will soon emerge as exceptionally fascinating models
and also offer customers price advantages of up to 1,438 Euros.
Moreover, for the model year 2008, the power train technology is to be
refined even further. All six-cylinder models will feature an
innovative rear axle transmission. As a result of this measure it was
possible to further optimise fuel consumption and emission levels for
the models BMW Z4 Coupe 3.0si, BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si, BMW Z4 Roadster
2.5si and BMW Z4 Roadster 2.5i. Likewise, the BMW Z4 Roadster 2.0i will
also reach an optimum level of efficiency in the model year 2008.
With these upgrade measures, BMW is asserting its ability to establish
an optimum ratio between driving dynamics and fuel consumption through
exemplary technical innovation in all vehicle segments. This is
possible due to measures implemented to reduce fuel consumption and
emission levels conceived within the framework of the BMW
EfficientDynamics development strategy and now being successively
deployed in all series. These measures include a friction-optimised
rear axle transmission for the six-cylinder versions of the BMW Z4.
Thanks to this innovation, the Roadster and the Coupe are able to
further strengthen their leading position in their respective class,
both in terms of fuel economy as well as CO2 emission levels. Average
fuel consumption of the 195 kW/265 bhp BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si has now
dropped to 8.5 litres/100 km in the EU test cycle. Starting in April
2005, BMW is expanding its successful roadster model series, the
four-cylinder 110 kW/150 bhp Z4 Roadster 2.0i marking the new entry
level into this world of pure driving pleasure. With almost the same
dynamic performance as its more powerful brothers, the Z4 Roadster 2.0i
accelerates from 0 - 100 km/h in just 8.2 seconds. Top speed, in turn,
is an equally impressive 220 km/h or 136 mph. Powerful torque of 200 Nm
or 147 lb-ft at 3600 rpm ensures appropriate flexibility, the Z4
Roadster 2.0i accelerating from 80 - 120 km/h (50 - 75 mph) in just 8.2
seconds. The engine - high-tech like BMW's six-cylinders Although the
new model is powered by four instead of six cylinders, the engine comes
with all the features so typical of BMW: Fully variable valve drive with
infinite adjustment of the intake and outlet camshafts (VANOS) as well
as VALVETRONIC ensure perfect responsiveness and a harmonious balance
of power. Superior refinement, in turn, is guaranteed by two balance
shafts. The smooth and crisp six-speed gearbox conveys all the power of
the engine to the 205/55 R16 rear wheels. And in the process the
sporting but unpretentious sound of the engine bears clear testimony to
every gear shift and every movement of the gas pedal. All the
ingredients for an authentic driving experience The Z4 Roadster 2.0i
also ranks equal to its agile brothers in terms of handling: Featuring
elaborate axle kinematics, a seating position moved far to the rear,
and an extremely low centre of gravity, the new model has all the
ingredients already boasted by its more powerful counterparts in the
interest of supreme driving pleasure. The spacious, re-accentuated
interior, together with the authentic soft roof and the cockpit reduced
to the most important controls and instruments, together with
sports-contoured seats and the leather steering wheel, serve to create
perfect harmony of man and machine. This is roadster motoring in its
most straightforward and natural form. EuroNCAP Best-in-Class Award
for the Z4 Roadster The BMW Z4 Roadster stands out not only through its
dynamic driving qualities: In the 2004 Euro-NCAP test this unique car
achieved the best results ever measured with dummies in a roadster,
thus receiving the EuroNCAP Best-in-Class Award. This is simply because
the torsionally resistant body structure of this open two-seater
protects the occupants better than in all other cars ever tested in
this class. Indeed, the Z4 Roadster, even without a firm roof, keeps
the forces acting on the occupants in the event of a collision lower
than in most modern cars with a fixed roof. Runflat tyres and a tyre
defect indicator, BMW's two-stage Brake Force Display, DSC Dynamic
Stability Control with DBC Dynamic Brake Control, as well as CBC
Cornering Brake Control, all help to avoid critical situations right
from the start. 100,000 Z4 Roadsters delivered to customers to far
Following introduction of the BMW Z4 Roadster in late 2001, some 100,000
units of this model series built at the BMW Group's Plant in
Spartanburg, USA, have been delivered to customers so far. What makes
this even more remarkable is that these are all models with prestigious
2.2, 2.5, and 3.0-litre six-cylinder power units developing engine
output of 125, 141, and, respectively, 170 kW (170,192, and,
respectively, 231 bhp). Now the Z4 Roadster 2.0i has everything it
takes to continue this story of success, contributing to the ongoing
profitability of this outstanding model series. The new model will be
making its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005.
Production is starting in April and the first models will be delivered
to customers in Europe and Asia in mid-May.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

Press Release,Z4,Product,BMW

Two months ago, BMW created a stir at the IAA 2005 with the
concept study of the Z4 Coupé. Trade show visitors in Frankfurt
and Tokyo were captivated by the body in silken matt finish, tailored
in the very best style of a classic sports coupé, the driving
dynamics potential you could even see when the vehicle was stationary
and the dream cockpit. Indeed, the reactions of the public were
overwhelming, so BMW has now decided to push ahead with the further
serial production development of the Z4 Coupé: the first
vehicles will be delivered to customers as early as June 2006. The
195kW/265 bhp in-line 6-cylinder engine ensures superior agility, not
just due to supreme output but also because of low weight resulting
from the use of magnesium. It not only catapults the Z4 Coupé to
the top of the international competitive field but is also evidence of
the enormous performance capacity of the fundamental BMW Z4 Roadster
concept - which forms the basis of the coupé. Activities have
also been intensified which are aimed at providing passionate sporty
drivers with even higher expectations of power and agility with a
high-end variation as quickly as possible. The result is the Z4 M
Coupé. With the 252 kW/343 bhp high-rpm engine, familiar from
the BMW M3 and winner of many international awards, the M chassis and M
specific body, it will also come out in June 2006 to quicken the pulse
of the world's sports coupé connoisseurs. New motifs of the Z4
Coupé, along with similar vehicles which inspired it will be
available in high resolution from November 23rd on the BMW media website
https://newsroom.bmwgroup.com/global/en More detailed information on the BMW Z4
Coupé and Z4 M Coupé will follow at the beginning of 2006.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

Concept Vehicles & Design,Press Release,Z4,Product,BMW

The
new BMW Z4 M Roadster. (Short Version) More than any other sports
car in the world, this unique car embodies the typical roadster: The
BMW Z4 Roadster thrills the car world through its fascinating, sporting
dynamism created by a perfect synthesis of a high-performance power
unit, the outstanding chassis and suspension, and in¬novative
features all round. And not least it is the wonderful design of the BMW
Z4 Roadster which makes this car so unique, desirable and a genuine
must-have. And now, four years after its world debut, the BMW Z4
Roadster is making a new, brilliant appearance with new engines.
Marking another highlight on the same occasion, the only purist
high-performance roadster in the world is making its world debut at the
Detroit Auto Show in Detroit in January 2006: The upcoming BMW Z4 M
Roadster is the high-performance ultra-sports version of the Z4
Roadster so many cus¬tomers have been waiting for. Extending BMW's
roadster family right at the top, this unique car takes up and
continues the brand's tradition in a seg¬ment originally created by
BMW M in the first place: Back in 1997, the BMW Z3 M Roadster marked
the world's first high-performance production roadster, with more than
15,000 units being sold to customers by the year 2002, making the Z3 M
Roadster the best seller in its class and the absolute leader in dynamic
performance, agility, and sportiness. The Z4 M Roadster: Awe-Inspiring
Performance in Every Respect. Boasting BMW M's straight-six power unit,
the Z4 M Roadster features a high-performance engine unparalleled in
the roadster market: In 2005 this unique engine received the
"Engine of the Year Award" acknowledged and highly respected
the world over for the fifth time in a row, setting up a record never
seen before. Through its high-speed concept and virtually optimum
transmission ratios, this outstanding power unit generates enormous
thrust and performance in all speed ranges. Its specifications alone
are very im¬press¬ive: six cylinders, 3,246 cc, 252 kW/343 hp
at 7,900 rpm, 365 Newton-metres/269 lb-ft at 4,900 rpm, maximum engine
speed 8,000 rpm. Two other figures perhaps say even more about the
engine's outstanding performance: Output per litre is 106 hp and the
power-to-weight ratio is 4.1 kilos/hp. On the road this means
acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, with the same short time of
5.0 seconds being required for intermediate acceleration in fourth gear
from 80-120 km/h (50-75 mph). Top speed is limited electronically to
250 km/h or 155 mph. The Joy of Shifting Gears Six Times Over. The
high-speed engine concept is simply ideal for a sports car in
combina¬tion with a short overall transmission ratio, since this
allows the conversion of engine power into optimum thrust on the rear
wheels. And combining the M final drive with a six-speed manual
gearbox, the engineers at BMW M are able to fulfil this requirement to
the highest standard. Short and crisp shift travel, supreme running
smoothness, and precise guidance of the shift lever with sensitive
feedback ensuring that the gear is properly in mesh, are typi¬cal
fortes of this transmission. Variable M Differential Lock for Supreme
Power in Bends. The Z4 M Roadster comes with the speed-sensitive
variable M differential lock already well-known and greatly admired on
the M3. This special feature gives the car both superior driving
stability and optimum traction especially when accelerating out of a
bend. Allowing a very sporting style of motoring, especially on roads
with a higher frictional coefficient, the M differential lock enables
the experienced driver to enhance the positive features of rear-wheel
drive to an even higher standard. Under challenging conditions such as
a different frictional coefficient on each side of the car typical of
winter weather and road surfaces, the system gives the Z4 M Roadster
supreme traction and stability. New Six-Cylinder Power Units for the
Z4 Roadster. While the six- and four-cylinder power units featured in
the BMW Z4 Road¬ster naturally cannot match the output and
performance of the M engine, they are everything but under-powered.
Indeed, the new 3.0-litre straight-six in the BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si is
currently the most innovative engine in its class, setting the standard
in motoring refinement and dynamic perform¬ance. Further strengths
are the engine's high output per litre, a very good power- to-weight
ratio, and the lowest specific fuel consumption. Maximum output is 195
kW/265 hp at 6,600 rpm, maximum engine speed is 7,000 rpm, and the
engine maintains its peak torque of 315 Newton-metres or 232 lb-ft
maintained consistently from 2,500-4,000 rpm. Complying, last but not
least, with both the EU4 and ULEV II standards, this outstanding power
unit is also a role model from the perspective of the environment. The
most striking feature from the customer's perspective in comparison with
the former engine is the sporting responsiveness of the new power unit
in conjunction with thrilling engine sound whenever the driver calls up
its power, as well as supreme refinement and motoring culture when
cruising or just breezing along. Superior power and low weight
naturally also mean superior performance and efficiency: The Z4
Roadster 3.0si accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds,
acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h (50-75 mph) in fourth gear comes in
5.5 seconds. Like the Z4 M Roadster, the Z4 Roadster 3.0si is limited
electronically to a top speed of 250 or 155 mph. Fuel consumption in
the combined EU cycle, finally, is just 8.6 litres Premium plus/100 km,
equal to 32.8 mpg Imp. Everything but Mediocre: the Two 2.5-Litre
Six-Cylinders. Two 2.5-litre power units round off the range of
six-cylinders: The BMW Z4 Roadster 2.5si, developing maximum output of
160 kW/218 hp, is among the top performers in its segment. Peak torque
of 250 Newton-metres or 184 lb-ft is maintained consistently between
2900 and 4250 rpm, accelerating the Z4 Roadster 2.5si from 0-100 km/h
in a mere 6.5 seconds. Equally su¬perior torque and muscle is borne
out by the car's acceleration from 80-120 km/h in fourth gear likewise
in 6.5 seconds. Top speed is 240 km/h or 149 mph, standard fuel
consumption is 8.4 litres Premium plus/100 km, equal to 33.6 mpg Imp.
And again it goes without saying that the Z4 Roadster 2.5si
com¬plies in full with both the EU4 and ULEV II emission standards.
In another version also boasting a 2.5-litre power unit, the Z4 Roadster
2.5i comes with maximum output of 130 kW/177 hp and peak torque of 230
Newton-metres or 169 lb-ft, replacing the former BMW Z4 Roadster 2.2i.
The big benefit for the customer offered by the larger engine is the
extra power and torque, a significant advantage above all when
accelerating from low speeds. The performance data: 0-100 km/h in 7.1
seconds, acceleration from 80-120 km/h (50-75 mph) in 4th gear in 7.0
seconds. Top speed is 229 km/h or 142 mph, fuel consumption 8.2 litres
premium plus on 100 kilometres (equal to 34.5 mpg Imp), and naturally
this model also complies in full with the EU4 and ULEV II emission
standards. All of these straight-six power units offer the customer
best-in-class per¬formance and excellent running smoothness in
typical BMW style. They come with a composite aluminium/magnesium
crankcase, a bedplate struc¬ture, and the cylinder head made of
magnesium, fully variable VALVE¬TRON¬IC valve control, infinite
double-VANOS camshaft adjustment, and four-valve technology. BMW Z4
Roadster 2.0i - Entering the World of Real Roadster Motoring. The
2.0-litre four-cylinder power unit featured in the BMW Z4 Roadster 2.0i
rounds off the range of engines in this unique family of roadster.
Developing 110 kW/150 hp at 6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 200
Newton-metres or 147 lb-ft at 3,600 rpm, this straight-four also
guarantees superior dynamics and undiluted roadster pleasure:
Acceleration to 100 km/h takes just 8.2 seconds, exactly the same time
as the fast sprint from 80-100 km/h (50-75 mph) in fourth gear. Top
speed, in turn, is an equally superior 220 km/h or 136 mph. Consuming
just 7.5 litres premium plus/100 kilometres (equal to 37.7 mpg Imp),
the four-cylinder is very fuel-efficient and, complying with the EU4
and ULEV II emission standards, offers superior environmental
friendliness. The engine is also equipped with BMW's innovative
VALVETRONIC and dual-VANOS management systems. A further feature is
the DISA intake mani¬fold, a technology able to change the length
of the oscillating pipes as a function of engine load. Operating in
conjunction with the engine manage¬ment system, this technology
ensures a level of spontaneity when accele¬rating previously only
to be found in sports engines with individual throttle butterflies.
Six Gears on All Models. All new BMW Z4 Roadsters come with a six-speed
manual gearbox. The typical strengths of this transmission are the
short and crisp gearshift travel, superior running smoothness and
precise guidance of the gearshift lever in the middle, with shift
forces remaining smooth and consistent at all times. With the six gears
coming close together with only small increments in between, and with
the large gap between the lowest and highest gear, the driver is always
able to choose the ideal gear ratio quickly and smoothly even when
driving fast and dynamically. Another BMW First: the New Sport
Automatic. Automatic transmission in the Z4 Roadster 3.0si and 2.5si
comes as a high¬light with shift paddles on the steering wheel. In
conjunction with the new set-up of the transmission, this outstanding
gearshift gives even the aficionade of automatic transmission a dynamic
experience of sporting perform¬ance in the Z4 Roadster without
having to forego the superior comfort of an automatic gearshift.
Supreme Body Stiffness for Four Stars in the EuroNCAP Crash Test.
Designed and built from the start as an open-air model, the body of the
BMW Z4 Roadster is also simply ideal in terms of weight and stiffness:
Of¬fering 14, 500 Nm/degree of static torsional stiffness, this is
the stiffest body¬shell in the segment. Apart from thrilling
performance and agility in bends, this also means that the BMW Z4
Roadster achieves excellent results in the demanding EuroNCAP crash
test: Achieving four out of five possible stars, the car's result is
truly remarkable for an open-air two-seater. Indeed, in the 2004
EuroNCAP test, the Z4 Roadster scored 15.64 points for head-on
collisions and 16 points for side-on collisions out of a possible
maximum result of 16 points in each case, the best figures ever
measured on the dummies in a roadster, receiving the EuroNCAP
Best-in-Class Award. This means that in practice the Z4 Roadster
protects its occupants better than all the cars in this segment tested
so far.In fact the forces and strain acting on the car's occupants are
lower than in most cars with a fixed roof. Chassis and Suspension: a
Star in Bends. The BMW Z4 Roadster offers its driver exactly the right
chassis and sus¬pen¬sion virtually tailor-made for sports
motoring, guaranteeing sheer driving pleasure all the way to the
absolute limit. And should the driver ever be so enthusiastic that his
sheer driving pleasure reaches the limits to physical stability,
sophisticated control systems still guarantee active safety of the
highest standard. The chassis and suspension are designed in terms of
their spring and damper action, as well as kinematics and
elastokinematics, for superior dynamism, agility and handling. This
makes the BMW Z4 Roadster in all its variants most probably the most
agile and dynamic roadster in the world. For even more sporting
behaviour, the genuine enthusiast moreover has the choice of a sports
suspension lowering the entire car by 15 millimetres or 0.59''. The
runflat tyres featured as standard are specially matched to the sporting
character of the BMW Z4 Roadster and now offer somewhat more comfortable
suspension qualities without affecting the agility of the car. The Z4 M
Roadster: Ultimate Driving Pleasure of the Highest Standard. The chassis
and suspension of the Z4 M Roadster is a consistent enhance¬ment
upgrading the suspension of the Z4 Roadster to an even higher
stand¬ard. The entire system therefore offers even greater driving
pleasure, with¬out in any way impairing the car's everyday driving
qualities and comfort. New DSC Setting the Standard in Suspension
Control. Reflecting BMW's consistent philosophy, the chassis and
suspension control systems on the Z4 Roadster and the Z4 M Roadster do
not serve to upgrade the suspension as such - simply because the
suspension already offers a very high standard - but rather to help the
driver master critical situ¬ations when driving to the limit. And
indeed, the safety reserves offered by BMW's roadsters are already very
substantial to begin with. But this does not stop BMW from offering
new, supplementary functions such as Hill Start Assistance, Dry
Braking, etc. Using the integrated Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
function on the BMW Z4 Roadster, the driver is able at the touch of a
button to improve traction and, accordingly, the drive power actually
conveyed to the road on slippery surfaces such as snow. He is also able
to adjust the driving behaviour of the BMW Z4 to higher dynamic
requirements, thus capitalising on the sporting qualities of the car.
One example is that DTC allows greater slip on the rear wheels whenever
appropriate. Numerous Interesting Ancillary Functions. BMW's new DSC
Dynamic Stability Control offers a number of additional functions:
Start-Off Assistance on uphill gradients, for example, automatically
operates the brakes for a short period, preventing the car from rolling
back on an uphill gradient and thus no longer requiring the driver to
pull the handbrake when setting off. Safety is further enhanced by
automatic Fading Compensation as well as the Brake Standby function
automatically pre-loading the brake linings. Auto¬matic Dry Braking
of the brake discs on wet roads, in turn, serve to improve brake
response when needed. The Z4 M Roadster incorporates BMW's variable M
differential lock in combination with a special configuration of the
DSC dynamic control system. Electric Power Steering Optimising the
Steering System. The Z4 Roadster and the Z4 M Roadster also differ in
terms of their steering system: The Z4 Roadster features BMW's
electromechanical EPS Electric Power Steering highlighting the dynamic
and agile set-up of the BMW Roadster. This unique system offers a very
high standard of flexibility in its steer¬ing characteristics, an
optimum compromise of the steering damping effect and feedback from the
steering, as well as low control forces at low speeds and when
manoeuvring. A further important point is the very good centering
effect, with the steering wheel returning smoothly and reliably to its
zero position. Servotronic, finally, comes as standard. Cutting-Edge
Precision when Steering. The steering system in the Z4 M Roadster, by
contrast, is supported by hydraulic power assistance. This ensures
unparalleled steering manoeuvres in terms of overall precision and
optimum feedback of all driving conditions. The overall steering
transmission ratio is 47 : 1, allowing even faster steering control and
operation and thus offering benefits in terms of supreme driving
dynamics. Lightweight Brakes with Outstanding Performance. A new
feature is the 17-inch brake system on the Z4 Roadster 3.0i. The
particular fortes in this case are extreme stopping power, very good
resistance to fading, and optimum long-term brake qualities. Compound
High-Performance Brakes Keeping M Power under Control. With its even
higher standard of performance, the Z4 M Roadster features BMW M's
floating compound high-performance brake system originally conceived for
the BMW M3 CSL as a system carried over directly from motor¬sport.
This superior brake system ensures stopping power of the highest
standard, giving the Z4 M Roadster a stopping distance of just 34
metres or 112 feet from a speed of 100 km/h. New Highlights in Design.
In their design, both the updated BMW Z4 Roadster and the new Z4 M
Road¬ster consistently continue the characteristic design language
of BMW's thoroughbred roadster concept: The BMW Z4 Roadster boasts
moderate updates including a modified front section drawn down closer
to the road. Other new features are the foglamps and the reflectors so
typical of the car. Benefiting from new tail lights with integrated
light conductors as well as more horizontal lines, the modifications at
the rear give the car an even wider, lower, and more muscular
appearance. Featuring even more sophisticated, top-quality materials
and additional colours, the interior is truly exquisite in its looks
without in any way foregoing its sporting, purist character. Z4 M
Roadster: High Performance at Very First Sight. Clearly recognisable as
a Z4 Roadster, the Z4 M Roadster visualises its su¬perior character
of high performance even more convincingly. The functional and
technical qualities of the car are reflected directly and authentically
by the design of the Z4 M Roadster, numerous details both outside and
inside distinguishing it from the "basic" model. The most
conspicuous highlights are the front air dam with its X-shaped
combination of lines and openings, the large air intake scoops, as well
as the low-slung kidney grille and the two striking precision lines on
the engine compartment lid. A feature exclusive to the Z4 M Roadster is
the double-spoke design of the 18-inch aluminium rims. And last but
certainly not least, the rear end also comes in that typical M style,
with four striking tailpipes and a horizontal diffuser. The Interior:
Sporting and Functional All in One. Inside, the new BMW Z4 M Roadster
boasts a sporting, purist but at the same time exclusive look
throughout. Clear shapes and the very best materials give the interior
its particular touch, powerfully emphasising the thrill of sports
motoring. The BMW M colours are also to be found on the speedometer
and rev counter with their face finished in black and boasting both
white numbers and red indicator needles accentuated by permanent white
illumination. Yet another unique feature is the engine speed band
presented in the rev counter like in the other BMW M cars: The yellow
pre-warning field and the red warning field limit the permissible range
of engine speed as a function of current engine oil temperature. With
the temperature of the oil in the engine increasing, the useful speed
range increases accordingly, making it easier for the driver to
intuitively monitor the current temperature level. The steering wheel,
gearshift lever knob and door entry strips are further features
specific to BMW M, just like the air conditioning and fresh air
adjusters, the door openers and door closing handles galvanically
upgraded in pearl gloss chrome. Three exterior colours exclusive to
BMW M and five special paintwork col¬ours for the BMW Z4 Roadster
enable the customer to give his - or her - Z4 M Roadster a very special
personal touch. Within the interior, no less than four different
colours, two leather trim options with a varying degree of leather
finish, as well as three exclusive trim surfaces add to the high degree
of individual style. Sufficient Space for Two. Both the BMW Z4
Roadster and the BMW Z4 M Roadster offer a lot of space for a car of
this kind: The glove compartment, several storage boxes, as well as a
large, approximately ten-litre box in the rear bulkhead ensure a high
degree of practical value. And whenever required, the variable roof
compartment folds up to provide additional space in the luggage
compartment at the rear increasing from an already generous 240 litres
or 8.4 cu ft sufficient for transporting two golf sets to 260 litres or
9.1 cu ft - in the Z4 M Roadster from 200 (7.0 cu ft) to 220 litres
(7.7 cu ft) due to the battery housed in the luggage compartment in
this case. A Special Roof with Special Folding Configuration. All of
BMW's new Z4 Roadsters come with an extremely compact folding roof where
the front, rigid section moves down on top of the fabric roof like a
cover and locks in position flush with the body of the car. The roof is
easy to open and close with one hand; the heated rear window is made of
scratch-proof mineral glass. A fully automatic, electrically operated
roof is naturally available as an option and comes as standard on the
Z4 M Roadster, also opening and closing from outside by remote control.
Bi-Xenon Headlights for Optimum Visibility. The BMW Z4 Roadster comes as
standard with dual halogen headlights. As an option - and as a standard
feature on the Z4 Roadster 3.0si and the Z4 M Roadster - static
bi-xenon headlights ensure maximum high- and low-beam intensity. The
car's position lights are formed by two light conductor rings, this
feature so characteristic of the BMW brand now also highlighting the
Roadster series. Extra Safety Thanks to the Adaptive Brake Display. All
Z4 Roadsters come as standard with BMW's two-stage Adaptive Brake
Display helping efficiently to avoid collisions from behind: Whenever
the driv¬er applies the brakes hard or with ABS intervening, the
illuminated areas in the rear lights grow larger and are intuitively
perceived by motorists fol¬low¬ing from behind as a clear sign
of an emergency braking manoeuvre. Accordingly, drivers following the
BMW will respond appropriately by ap¬plying the brakes harder in
good time and thus benefiting from extra stop¬ping distance.
Options Galore: Top-Class Audio and Navigation Systems. Apart from the
"basic" audio system, the Z4 Roadster is available with two
truly outstanding HiFi systems developed especially for this car. Two
navi¬gation systems also enable the roadster driver to benefit from
BMW's lead¬ing position in navigation technology. And the final
point is that all of these systems may be combined with virtually all
telecommunication features cur¬rently available.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

Press Kit,Z4,Product,BMW

BMW Z4 Named Safest Car in its Class

<pp:caseid>812919</pp:caseid><pp:summary>Roadster records best ever EuroNCAP crash test results.</pp:summary>

The open top BMW Z4 Roadster has been named the safest car in its class
by EuroNCAP, the independent motoring organisation that assesses the
safety of cars. Crash tests carried out by EuroNCAP (European New Car
Assessment Programme) measures the level of risk of driver and
passenger injury on a 16-point scale. The BMW Z4's numbers were 15.64
for a frontal impact and 16.00 for a crash from the side. These are the
best results ever recorded by this test procedure. "The BMW Z4 is
as safe as it is exciting. Ever since it was launched, it has remained
the top car in its class. And now it has been shown to be the safest in
its class too, for drivers and passengers alike," said Martin
Klanner, Z4 project manager of the BMW Group. Although the BMW Z4 does
not have a fixed roof, the level of passenger stress in the event of an
accident is even lower than in most modern vehicles with a solid roof.
"This is a milestone for the development of vehicle safety and at
the same time an impressive demonstration of the strength of innovation
shown by BMW engineers," said Klanner. The BMW Z4 obtains its
high level of stability from the central Y support in the floor pan
section, in association with the frame construction in the side panels,
which extend from the front wheel arch via the sill to the rear
section, and are made of high-strength steel material. They are
connected to the safety cage via the rollover protector in the A
column/windscreen frame, the foot-rest surfaces, with optimised
intrusion properties, and the traverse body sills with the integrated
rollover protectors behind the seats. The BMW Z4 is a trend setter in
terms of safety in many other areas, including run-flat tyres. The tyre
faces make it considerably easier to control vehicle reactions in the
event of a sudden puncture and it is even possible to continue driving
for up to 150 km even following a complete loss of tyre pressure. Since
80% of punctures are preceded by a slow pressure drop, a puncture
warning indicator is fitted as standard. Another innovation with
which the BMW Z4 is fitted as standard is the two-level brake light. In
the event of an emergency stop, additional LEDs are activated in the
brake lights, which have the effect of enhancing the warning signal to
any vehicles to the rear. The Advanced Safety Electronic (ASE) system
constitutes the mastermind for a number of further, standard safety
features, all included in the BMW Z4. It is responsible for triggering
off the airbags in appropriate situations and activates the seat-belt
tightening mechanism. It also disconnects the battery, switches off the
generator and fuel pump, releases the central lock and activates the
interior light and hazard warning lamps. With more than 19,000 cars
sold this year by May the BMW Z4 is the most successful roadster in its
segment for 2004, a status it has retained since its market
introduction in October 2002.

Press Contact: Leanne Blanckenberg
Tel: +971-4-3132-615
E-mail: leanne.blanckenberg@bmw.com

Press Release,Safety, Security,Z4,Product,BMW
