With 40 years of history under its belt, the legendary high-performance sedan is entering its seventh model generation. And the executive model from BMW M GmbH now has an electrified drive system for the first time. A model-specific version of the M HYBRID system gives the new BMW M5 maximum output of 727 hp and peak system torque of 1,000 Nm. The combination of a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, plus power transfer courtesy of an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, enables acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.</pp:summary>

The imposing power delivery and emotionally engaging performance
experience served up by the new BMW M5 are accompanied by a new
interpretation of the high-performance car design for which M is
renowned. Prominent wheel arch and side skirt extensions, the
sculptural front apron and model-specific surfacing around the
C-pillar – including an embossed “M5” logo for the Hofmeister kink –
give the car an athletic appearance that helps to differentiate it
more clearly than ever from the BMW 5 Series Sedan. At the same time,
an unusually high proportion of surfaces painted in body colour create
a puristic appearance with stylish references to its superior dynamic talents.

As such, the exterior design – like the ambience of the luxurious
interior, which is enhanced with M-specific features – accentuates the
multi-layered character of the new BMW M5. Its sense of poise and
assurance is fuelled by vast reserves of power that can be summoned at
any time. Kept discreetly in reserve during relaxed, electric-only
cruises, this performance comes vividly to the fore as the BMW M5
reveals the “sporty sedan” side to its personality over longer
distances – and is unleashed in full during sessions on the track.

M HYBRID drive system in the new BMW M5: intoxicating
performance, impressive electric range.

The M HYBRID drive system in the new BMW M5 brings a 4.4-litre
V8 engine with classical high-revving character together with an
electric motor, whose performance characteristics are tuned
specifically for the BMW M5 and which is integrated into the
eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The combustion engine benefits
from cutting-edge M TwinPower Turbo technology, a cross-bank exhaust
manifold and optimised oil separation. It develops maximum output of
585 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm. The maximum output of the electric
motor is 197 hp. It has nominal torque of 280 Nm, but a pre-gearing
stage allows effective torque at the transmission input to be
increased to 450 Nm.

The combination of combustion engine and electric motor adheres to
the same principle as the drive system in the BMW M Hybrid V8
endurance racing machine. The ability of the electric motor to
generate its power instantly and the intelligently controlled
interplay of the combustion engine and motor ensure the M HYBRID
system responds without delay to every movement of the accelerator.
The linear power delivery typical of BMW M models is found here in
particularly compelling form. The eight-cylinder engine can spin to a
maximum 7,200 rpm as the new BMW M5 treats its driver to the sensation
of relentless power development into the upper reaches of the load and
speed ranges. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h as standard, but the
limiter can be raised to 305 km/h if the optional M Driver’s Package
is specified.

The sports exhaust system of the new BMW M5 underscores the
performance experience with a multi-faceted and emotionally
enthralling engine note. It features electrically controlled,
continuously adjustable flaps and the two pairs of dual tailpipes
familiar from other M models, each with 100-millimetre trims in Black Chrome.

Providing an acoustic accompaniment to the power delivery of the
electric motor is BMW IconicSounds Electric. This M-specific electric
drive sound provides authentic responses to movements of the
accelerator when the car is operating in all-electric mode. With the
relevant drive system configuration, it also generates an engaging
track to highlight the arrival of extra electric power on top of the
output from the V8 engine.

The power generated by the combustion engine and electric motor is
channelled to the road via the all-wheel-drive system M xDrive, whose
rear-biased setup is particularly pronounced in 4WD Sport mode.
However, the driver can also select 2WD mode. This sends drive
exclusively to the rear wheels with the DSC (Dynamic Stability
Control) system switched off, which will appeal to experienced drivers
who prefer a performance experience of the pure-bred variety. This
further developed iteration of M xDrive – like the electronically
controlled Active M Differential at the rear axle – is tailored
specially to the performance characteristics of the M HYBRID drive system.

Sophisticated chassis technology with M-specific tuning.

The chassis design of the new BMW M5 comprises a double-wishbone
front axle and a five-link rear axle with bespoke kinematics and
elastokinematics, plus a host of other specially tuned components. The
electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering with M Servotronic and
variable steering ratio has a rigid connection to the front axle
subframe to ensure optimal feedback from the road and a high degree of
directional accuracy.

Also fitted as standard are adaptive M suspension with electronically
controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering, which steers the rear
wheels by up to 1.5 degrees. M-specific tuning, the individually
selectable settings and the ability to adjust the dampers at each
wheel individually optimise the body’s connection to the road and
maximise the car’s spread of talents – from everyday driving comfort
to race-ready dynamic prowess. Turning the rear wheels as required
improves directional stability at high speed, as well as agility and
comfort when manoeuvring.

Traction, agility and directional stability all benefit from
near-actuator wheel slip limitation and the networking of all control
systems within the integrated transverse dynamics management setup.
Both the standard M Compound brakes and optional M Carbon ceramic
brakes combine with an integrated braking system that presents the
driver with two pedal feel settings. M light-alloy wheels (20-inch at
the front axle, 21-inch at the rear) come as standard and are fitted
with high-performance tyres.

Assistance systems for assured and comfortable driving.

A much wider selection of standard and optional systems for automated
driving and parking than was offered for the predecessor model takes
assurance and comfort in day-to-day driving to another new level.
Standard specification for the new BMW M5 brings features such as
front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning including lane return
with steering assistance, the Evasion Assistant, the Attentiveness
Assistant and the Speed Limit Info system. The optional Driving
Assistant Professional adds Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go
function together with tech including the Steering and Lane Control
Assistant, traffic light detection, automatic Speed Limit Assist and
Active Navigation.

The new BMW M5 is equipped as standard with the Parking Assistant
including Reversing Assistant. Meanwhile, the optional Parking
Assistant Professional allows automated parking and manoeuvring over a
distance of up to 200 metres to be controlled from inside the car or
by smartphone from outside the car.

Fresh scope for adjusting the driving experience to personal taste.

The control panel on the centre console of the new BMW M5 houses a
model-specific composition of buttons which can be used to tailor the
driving experience to individual preferences in a variety of ways. The
Setup button provides direct access to the configuration of the drive
system, Drivelogic, chassis, steering, braking system and M xDrive, as
well as the intensity of brake energy recuperation. Two overall
vehicle setups can be stored and selected using the M buttons on the
steering wheel. The Launch Control function is available in all the M
Setup menu settings with the exception of the M xDrive system’s 2WD mode.

The operating mode of the M HYBRID system can also be adjusted as
desired. The new M Hybrid button allows the driver to choose between
HYBRID mode – for intelligently controlled interplay between the
combustion engine and electric motor to maximise either efficiency or
performance, depending on the driving situation – and the ELECTRIC
setting, in which the combustion engine is only brought into play by
accelerator kickdown or using the gearshift paddles. eCONTROL mode is
used for effective brake energy recuperation and maintaining battery
charge at a constant level.

Progressive sports car cockpit, M-specific displays on the BMW
Curved Display, exclusive ambience.

As well as the M-specific control panel on the centre console, the
progressive sports car cockpit of the new BMW M5 also contains a newly
designed, flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with illuminated M
buttons, M multifunction seats with a wide range of electric
adjustment and the BMW Curved Display which, like the standard BMW
Head-Up Display, includes M-specific content. The standard BMW Live
Cockpit Professional also brings the BMW Maps navigation system and
the Augmented View function on the control display. An upgraded
version of BMW iDrive features as standard in the new BMW M5. It is
based on BMW Operating System 8.5 and designed squarely for use via
touch control and natural speech.

Also playing their part in the exclusive interior ambience are the
standard Merino leather trim, the BMW Interaction Bar, four-zone air
conditioning, heated front seats, ambient lighting with M-specific

version of the six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo
technology produces output 530 hp. In the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan
with M xDrive, the increased engine power is channelled via an
eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic to all four
wheels. BMW Group Plant Munich will build all vehicles of the new BMW
M3 Sedan. The production phase-in will commence in July 2024, marking
their worldwide launch.

Traditional race-car feeling. Engine technology borrows from
motor racing.

Now in its sixth model generation, the BMW M3 is more powerful, more
poised and assured, more advanced and more versatile than ever. The
sedan continues a high-performance sports car bloodline that stretches
back almost 40 years. The race-car feeling associated with the BMW M3
– present at the driver’s fingertips over every mile of a journey –
can be experienced in totally different ways with this latest generation.

The new BMW M3 features a high-revving straight-six engine with M
TwinPower Turbo technology. In all its output variants, the 3.0-litre
unit stands out with its healthy appetite for revs into the highest
reaches of the engine speed range and hence produces the linear power
delivery typical of high-performance models from BMW M GmbH.

The upgraded engine in the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive
develops an extra 20 hp, for a maximum output of 530 hp at 6,250 rpm.
The upgraded engine, which also serves as the basis for the unit
powering the BMW M4 GT3, summons its peak torque of 650 Nm between
2,750 and a now even higher 5,730 rpm. The result is even more
ferocious, sustained power delivery that adds another layer of
intensity to the performance experience – in particular when the
driver is exploring the car’s dynamic limits – and enables impressive
acceleration figures.

The new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive accelerates from 0 to
100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The increased output of the two
all-wheel-drive models is reflected in 0 to 200 km/h times that are
0.5 seconds quicker in each case. The sedan now records a time of 11.8
seconds. The top speed of 250 km/h is electronically limited as
standard; however, if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified,
this figure rises to 290 km/h, allowing drivers to utilise the full
potential of the powerful engines.

Model-specific composition of engine, transmission and chassis.

The rear-biased setup of the intelligent all-wheel-drive system
further enhances the agility of the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with
M xDrive and elevates traction to an even higher level. The system
teams up with the Active M Differential at the rear axle – whose
operation is also fully variable – to add to the signature M feeling
when powering through corners. In addition to the default 4WD setting,
the driver can also select 4WD Sport mode via the M Setup menu. Here,
a higher proportion of drive power is sent to the rear wheels for even
more agile handling. Switching off DSC (Dynamic Stability Control)
also brings 2WD mode into play, which means power is sent exclusively
to the rear wheels. This mode offers skilled drivers a pure-bred
driving experience without interventions from the control systems.

The high torsional stiffness of the body structure and chassis
mountings creates the ideal platform for impressive driving dynamics
and instantaneous response to steering commands. The standard adaptive
M suspension gives drivers the ability to adapt the responses of the
electronically controlled dampers as they wish. Via the M Setup menu,
drivers can select from three different settings to optimise the car’s
handling in line with need and personal preference.

The package of chassis technology also includes M Servotronic
steering and the integrated braking system, which works in conjunction
with both the standard M Compound brakes and the optional M Carbon
ceramic brakes. The M Carbon ceramic brakes are around 14 kilograms
lighter than the standard M Compound brakes. The reduction in unsprung
mass plays a particularly significant role in delivering increased
agility, enhanced handling, faster response and lower fuel consumption.

The DSC system, meanwhile, ensures a form of driving pleasure
unmatched by any rival. Indeed, with M Dynamic Mode, it offers an
ultra-sporty configuration that raises the system’s intervention
thresholds when it comes to controlling braking inputs and delays the
point at which it steps in to restrict engine output. This maximises
the car’s performance dynamics with DSC switched on. The system can
also be fully deactivated (DSC off).

The new BMW M3 Sedan can be specified as an option with the M
Traction Control function. A standard feature on all Competition
models, this slip control tech can be adjusted through 10 stages
according to the driver’s preferences or the road conditions at hand.
It allows the control system inputs to be reduced in stages so that
the driver can approach the physical limits in race action on the
track, for example. The M Laptimer and M Drift Analyser help
experienced drivers improve their lap times and hone their drifting
skills. The integrated application of all drivetrain and chassis
systems was fine-tuned at locations including the Nürburgring’s
Nordschleife circuit, but it also ensures highly dynamic and precisely
controllable handling simultaneously in everyday driving.

Axle-specific wheel sizes, M forged light-alloy wheels with a
new design.

Standard specification for the new BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M
xDrive includes Jet Black forged light-alloy wheels in double-spoke
design (19-inch at the front axle and 20-inch at the rear axle). Plus,
new forged M light-alloy wheels in 19-inch and 20-inch for-mats have
been added to the extensive optional equipment roster. These are now
finished in Silver for the first time, their bright, shiny surfaces
ensuring a sporty yet also elegantly sophisticated appearance.

Extensive selection of assistance systems; M Mode button to
call up personalised selection of functions.

The new BMW M3 Sedan sets new standards in its segment with its
extensive range of standard and optional automated driving and parking
systems. In order to provide a dynamic experience that is both
appropriate for the situation at hand and fits the high-performance
sports car brief, the interventions of the driver assistance systems
can be adjusted using the M Mode button on the centre console. For
example, in the optional TRACK setting conceived for use on race
circuits, all comfort and safety systems are temporarily deactivated.

Newly designed headlights and eye-catching details sharpen the
cars’ visual character.

Newly designed LED headlights, which bring together low and high beam
in a single module, bring fresh accents to the front end of the new
BMW M3. Two elegantly sculpted, subtly arrow-shaped and vertically
arranged LED units in each module serve as both side lights/daytime
driving lights and turn signal indicators. Adaptive LED Headlights
with non-dazzling matrix high beam are available as an option and
include the cornering light function and urban lights. Blue inlays
inside the headlights indicate the presence of this extremely
sophisticated light technology. M Shadowline lights with dark inner
accents are also available for cars specified with the Adaptive LED
Headlights. The model badge on the boot lid of the Competition models
is now accented by an elegant silver-coloured surround.

New steering wheels and interior trim elements for the
M-specific sports car cockpit.

New steering wheels and controls, plus highly sophisticated materials
for the instrument panel and interior trim elements heighten the aura
of exclusivity inside the M-specific sports car cockpit. Also playing
its part in the dynamic driving experience is a newly designed
three-spoke M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons and
red centre marker in the 12 o’clock position. It now has a
flat-bottomed rim and precisely modified spokes.

High-quality, carefully crafted materials and M-specific design
features in the interior create a modern premium ambience with
sporting flair. The interior trim elements in the instrument panel,
control panel and cup holder cover now come as standard in Dark
Graphite matt. M Carbon Fibre now additionally includes elements for
the steering wheel and the gearshift paddles of the Competition
models. The optional Sensatec instrument panel now has a further
refined surface structure.

The standard M sport seats offer an array of electrically operated
adjustment options to make it easier to find the perfect position
behind the steering wheel. Available as alternatives to the standard
Merino leather trim are Merino full-leather trim, BMW Individual
Merino leather trim with extended features and BMW Individual Merino
full-leather trim – each in a choice of four colours. The optional,
also fully electrically adjustable M Carbon bucket seats provide an
optimum, racing-car-like connection between driver and car. They fuse
racing functionality with luxurious craftsmanship and excellent
comfort over long distances. The use of carbon fibre-reinforced
plastic (CFRP) in the seat surface and backrest elements, plus
cut-outs in the side bolsters and below the head restraints enable a
weight saving of 9.6 kilograms over the standard M sport seats.

BMW Curved Display and new BMW Operating System 8.5.

The new editions of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M3 Touring also welcome
the latest generation of the display and control/operation system, BMW
iDrive, based on BMW Operating System 8.5, into cockpits shaped by
progressive sporting appeal. Also on the options list is the BMW
Head-Up Display, which projects information relevant to driving –
including a multi-coloured rpm dial, Shift Lights and M View – onto
the windscreen, again in an M-specific style.

Distinctive looks and higher-intensity performance with M
Carbon exterior package, M Race Track package and BMW M Performance Parts.

An M Carbon exterior package specific to each of the new
high-performance cars brings bespoke precision to their outward
appeal. With inlays for the wide front air intakes and a rear diffuser
with unique geometry for each model, plus exterior mirror caps and a
rear spoiler made from CFRP for the BMW M3 Sedan, the M Carbon
exterior package also brings fresh visual sharpness to the race-car
character of the two models. The M Race Track package, which includes
M Carbon ceramic brakes, M Carbon bucket seats for the driver and
front passenger and Carbon Fibre interior trim elements, reduces
vehicle weight by as much as 25 kilograms.

Update for the global best-seller in the premium midsize class.

For almost 50 years now, the BMW 3 Series has represented the core of
the BMW brand. It epitomises sporty driving pleasure in the premium
midsize class and has made significant contributions to design,
driving dynamics and technological innovations in this segment time
and again across what is now seven model generations. The character of
the current-generation BMW 3 Series has likewise provided a case study
in unwavering progress at work. The extensive revisions already
introduced for model year 2022 in the areas of design, powertrain,
digitalisation and equipment will now be followed up with a fresh
package of updates that take the cars’ visual appeal and cutting-edge
modernity to new levels. New chassis tuning further enhances the
balance between sporting potency and comfort. And when it comes to
digitalisation in the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW Operating System 8.5
provides the basis for extremely intuitive and comfortable operation –
via the upgraded BMW iDrive with QuickSelect – and for extended
navigation functions including Augmented View.

These new technological advances are accompanied by precise design
modifications for the exterior and interior. New exterior paint
finishes and light-alloy wheels accentuate the aura of sporting
elegance radiated by the Sedan and Touring. In the interior, the newly
designed steering wheels and instrument panel, plus sophisticated
equipment features such as the CraftedClarity glass applications,
deliver driving pleasure in an ambience of premium modernity.

BMW 3 Series is the market leader in the premium segment of
its class.

The BMW 3 Series has embodied driving pleasure, elegantly sporty
design and sustained technological progress ever since its debut in
1975. It therefore encapsulates the brand’s hallmark features in
particularly concentrated form. More than 20 million examples of the
BMW 3 Series have been sold around the world to date, with the
current, seventh model generation now accounting for almost three
million of these alone. As things stand, one in every eight vehicles
delivered by the brand worldwide is a 3 Series. And in some markets,
the share of the total BMW sales accounted for by the 3 Series is as
high as 25 – 35 per cent.

An unwavering commitment to carbon footprint reduction.

Highly efficient drive systems, intelligent lightweight design and
optimised aerodynamic attributes are key contributors to the fine
balance between driving pleasure and low fuel consumption and
emissions struck by the new BMW 3 Series. The bonnet, front side
panels, engine subframe, front spring struts and numerous chassis
components are all made from aluminium. The proportion of secondary
raw materials used in cast aluminium parts for the BMW 3 Series is
around 50 per cent. And the aluminium wheel rims are made up of as
much as around 70 per cent recycled aluminium.

The externally procured electricity used in production of the new BMW
3 Series at BMW Group Plant Munich is generated from renewable
sources. The BMW 3 Series also plays its part in helping the BMW Group
to meet its exacting CO2 targets by consistently increasing vehicle
efficiency. The BMW Group has set itself the goal of cutting
life-cycle CO2 emissions per vehicle by at least 40 per cent by 2030
compared to 2019. By 2050 at the latest, the company is aiming for net
zero in terms of CO2e emissions throughout the value chain.

Exterior design, interior and equimpent.
Progressive aura,
refined ambience.

More than ever, sporting elegance and modernity define the design of
the new BMW 3 Series Sedan. In the current model generation, their
driving pleasure-focused character is expressed in clear lines and
generously sculpted surfaces. The sophisticated design of the BMW
kidney grille and twin circular headlights – both signature brand
features – gives the front end an unmistakable appearance.
Eye-catching front and rear aprons underscore the cars’ dynamic
profile, which can be further accentuated by specifying the optional M
Sport package or M Sport package Pro.

Fresh design updates enhance the sporting elegance of the exterior.

The spectrum of exterior colours available for the new BMW 3 Series
Sedan comprises two solid and seven metallic paint finishes. New
additions to the range include Arctic Race Blue metallic and Fire Red metallic.

The selection of optional light-alloy wheels also welcomes attractive
new arrivals. Cars specified with the M Sport package will be
available with new 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke
design, giving their side view an even more dynamic appearance.
Customers can order these wheels in either a Jet Black finish or a
bi-colour variant. Meanwhile, the BMW Individual range also includes
new 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design and a bi-colour
finish. All the new light-alloy wheels are fitted with mixed-size tyres.

Progressive cockpit with new sports leather steering wheels.
Digital climate control and selectable light moods. Exclusive
accents with CraftedClarity.

Advanced new features have also been introduced in the interior of
the Sedan. These help to give the cockpit a clean and pared-back look.
Newly designed steering wheels add further intensity to the driving
experience. The M Sport package brings a new M leather steering wheel
with three spokes, a flat-bottomed rim and a discreet centre marking
in the 12 o’clock position. The progressive premium character of the
cars is also showcased by high-quality materials and new interior trim
elements. The optional instrument panel Luxury in Sensatec has a
further refined surface structure and decorative stitching in a
contrasting colour.

The introduction of the latest-generation BMW iDrive with QuickSelect
based on BMW Operating System 8.5 in the new BMW 3 Series Sedan also
brings optimised operation of the ventilation and climate control
functions. An operating concept focused squarely on touch control and
natural language enables a further reduction in the number of physical
buttons and controls in the cockpit. New adjustment controls for the
air vent grilles in the centre of the instrument panel and on the
driver’s and front passenger side of the cockpit allow the intensity
and direction of airflow to be adjusted using rotating and tilting movements.

The interior lighting now includes cascade lighting integrated into
the trim around the central seam vents as standard. It can be adjusted
for colour and brightness according to personal preference, with users
able to select from nine colour worlds.

The use of extremely high-quality materials also allows distinctive
touches to be included in other areas of the interior to enhance its
modern premium character. For example, customers can now specify
CraftedClarity glass applications – another new addition to the
options list. These give the gear selector lever, BMW iDrive
Controller and Start/Stop button a particular air of exclusivity, both
visually and in how they feel to the touch.

New seat surfaces in M Performtex.

As an alternative to the black cloth seat surfaces fitted as
standard, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan can also be ordered with sport
seats in Sensatec perforated. These are available in Black, Tacora Red
or Cognac. The optional Vernasca leather trim is now offered in four
colour variants.

The black surfaces of the sport seats in new M Performtex trim embody
progressive sporting appeal. They are included in the M Sport package
or as part of standard equipment for the M Performance models. This
innovative velours covering combines high material quality and a
sporty design with low weight and a sustainability-optimised
production method. Cars with the M Sport package and the M Performance
models can also be ordered with sport seats and M sport seats in
Vernasca leather with black surfaces and blue contrast quilting.

Individual look with M-specific design features.

The performance capabilities of these elite athletes are clearly
flagged by M‑specific design features crafted to meet technical
requirements in terms of aerodynamics and cooling air supply. These
include the large air intakes in the front apron, along with the M
exterior mirror caps in Black high-gloss and the rear apron with its
prominently styled diffuser. The BMW M340i xDrive Sedan model also
sport a body-coloured M rear spoiler. A mesh-design BMW kidney grille,
exclusive 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and trapezoidal exhaust
tailpipe trim further add to the individual appearance of the
range-topping sporting quartet. They are also available with the
option of the M Sport package Pro.

The new BMW Operating System 8.5 and innovative digital services.

The latest version of the BMW iDrive display and control/operation
system with QuickSelect is fitted in the new edition of the BMW 3
Series Sedan, enabling vehicle functions to be controlled intuitively
and providing access to digital services. It is now based on BMW
Operating System 8.5 and features a new-look home screen and
QuickSelect rapid-access tech, bringing an improved menu structure
that takes its cue from consumer electronics devices. Working in
tandem with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant, the new BMW iDrive is geared even more rigorously to
operation using touch control and natural language.

and, for the first time, all-electric drive - this is how the new BMW
5 Series steps up to the plate. As the BMW i5, the new edition of the
world's most successful business sedan takes the lead on the road to
sustainable premium mobility in the upper mid-range vehicle segment.

The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series will begin in October 2023.
The new model generation will be offered worldwide with all-electric
drive and as well as with highly efficient petrol engine including
48-volt mild hybrid technology. Like all previous model generations,
the new BMW 5 Series is produced at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing,
where the electric motors and high-voltage batteries for the BMW i5
are also manufactured.

Sporty elegance and striking presence with a new design language.

A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series’
sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor model, the
new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres, in width by 32
millimetres and in height by 36 millimetres. Its wheelbase was
lengthened by 20 millimetres too.

The front view of the new BMW 5 Series is characterised by a modern
interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED
elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and
daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far
forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.

The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series can be further enhanced
with the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro. The
range of paintwork already includes three BMW Individual paint
finishes at market launch.

Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative flair.

The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced
number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This
is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved
Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation.
The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information
Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also
been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on
the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The
optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively
backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends
across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door
panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.

A first at BMW: Fully vegan interior.

Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional
comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment
options. The new BMW 5 Series is the brand's first model to feature a
fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces of the
seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the steering
wheel for the first time. The seat surfaces in the Veganza version
with leather-like properties are also optionally available with a
decorative perforation. Further optional equipment includes BMW
Individual Merino leather upholstery in several bicolour variants.

All-electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive as the top model.

The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two
variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive, which combines a 601
hp* drive with hallmark M performance and specific design features.
Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles make up
an electric all-wheel drive. The system torque generated is up to 820
Nm* when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control function is activated.
This enables the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8
seconds. Its top speed is electrically limited to 230 km/h.

[* when M Launch Control or M Sport Boost function is activated]

The BMW i5 eDrive40 is also available. Its electric
motor drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 340 hp
and a maximum torque of up to 430 Nm with Sport Boost or Launch
Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from zero to 100
km/h in 6.0 seconds, its top speed is 193 km/h.

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
long range.

The respective WLTP values are 455 - 516 kilometres for the
BMW i5 M60 xDrive and 477 - 582 kilometres for the
BMW i5 eDrive40. With the new MAX RANGE function,
the range can be increased by up to 25 percent if required by limiting
power and speed and deactivating comfort functions.

Unique balance between driving dynamics and travel comfort.

The BMW 5 Series’ characteristic balance between maximum sportiness
and high-level long-distance comfort is enhanced once again in the new
edition. The longest wheelbase in the upper mid-range vehicle segment,
increased track widths at the front and rear axles, an almost
perfectly balanced 50:50 ratio axle load distribution, intelligent
lightweight construction and increased body and chassis connection
rigidity contribute to this.

The extensively advanced chassis technology, like the control
systems, has been model-specifically adapted to the weight balance
associated with the respective drive technology. It includes directly
controlled wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system and sport
steering with variable steering ratio as standard. An M sport
suspension, an M sport brake system and the Adaptive Suspension
Professional (standard in the BMW i5 M60 xDrive) with electronically
controlled shock absorbers, Integral Active Steering and new vertical dynamics management are available as
options. The optional Adaptive M Suspension Professional also includes
Active Roll Stabilisation with Active Roll Comfort. Light alloy wheels
in 18-inch or 19-inch sizes (BMW i5) are standard equipment.
Light-alloy wheels up to a size of 21 inches and performance tyres are
offered as options.

Intense automated driving experience.

A significantly expanded range of systems for automated driving and
parking is available as standard or as an option for the new BMW 5
Series. An innovative technology kit creates the conditions for their
outstanding functionality. The highlight of the range is the optional
Driving Assistant Professional including Steering and Lane Control
Assist and Distance Control with Stop & Go function.

The new BMW 5 Series is equipped with Parking Assistant, including
Reversing Assist, as standard. With the optional Parking Assistant
Professional, automated parking and manoeuvring of up to 200 metres
can be controlled in the vehicle or by smartphone outside the
vehicle. Other innovations include the Welcome Scenario with
light show and personal welcome, which optionally also includes the
dynamic light carpet. The BMW Digital Key Plus is now available for
suitable smartphones with the iOS or Android operating systems as well
as for the Apple Watch.

Intuitive operation and new digital experiences: BMW iDrive
with "QuickSelect" and BMW Operating System 8.5.

The enhanced BMW iDrive display and control system with
"QuickSelect" also contributes to the characteristic driving
and travelling experience in the new BMW 5 Series. It is based on the
BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a redesigned home screen with
vertically arranged function icons on the driver's side.
"QuickSelect” enables functions to be accessed directly without
having to switch to a submenu. This means that the system has received
an improved menu structure, oriented towards devices from the consumer
electronics sector.

In-car video streaming and gaming now available in the new BMW
5 Series.

In addition, BMW Operating System 8.5 offers a wider range of digital
content for information and entertainment, faster update cycles for
functions, improved information on charging points for electric
vehicles and optimised access to many specific online services. Video
streaming is possible on the Control Display, as is an innovative form
of in-car gaming presented for the first time in the new BMW 5 Series
with the AirConsole platform. Driver and passengers can play so-called
casual games while the vehicle is stationary, for example to bridge
waiting times while charging the high-voltage battery of the BMW i5.

Munich. With a ten-year plan for sustainability, the
BMW Group is underscoring its commitment to the goals of the Paris
climate agreement, the main focus being on the expansion of electric
mobility. More than 500,000 electrified vehicles were sold by the end
of 2019 and this figure will most likely rise to over 1 million by the
end of 2021. The BMW 5 Series makes a substantial contribution towards
achieving both past and future goals. With almost 50,000 units, BMW 5
Series plug-in hybrid models were the most successful electrified
models in the
BMW Group’s portfolio worldwide in 2019.

Extension of the BMW 5 Series to include five plug-in hybrid models.

With an increase from two to five models featuring innovative plug-in
hybrid drive by November 2020, the new BMW 5 Series offers the largest
range of PHEVs within one BMW Group model series.

The latest generation of BMW eDrive technology in conjunction with a
four-cylinder petrol engine powers the BMW 530e plug-in hybrid models.
July 2020 saw the launch of the new
BMW 530e Sedan and the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan.

In November 2020, the new BMW 530e Touring and the
new BMW 530e xDrive Touring will be launched.

Top of the range model: The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan.

The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan features a synchronous electric motor
delivering a maximum power output of 80 kW/109 hp, which is combined
with an efficient straight six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW
TwinPower Turbo Technology and 210 kW/286 hp, together generating an
overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp. Power is distributed as
required to all four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and
intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive. Maximum system torque is 600
Nm and top speed is reached at 250 km/h, whilst a speed of 140 km/h is
possible in purely electric operation. From a standstill, the new BMW
545e xDrive accelerates to a speed of 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
Thus, the BMW 545e xDrive clearly excels as the most dynamic of all
BMW six-cylinder plug-in hybrids.

Thanks to intelligently controlled interaction between both drive
systems, the new BMW 545e xDrive combines the best of two worlds. It
facilitates not only purely electric driving in urban traffic and
efficient commuting between home and the workplace, but also excels
through dynamic performance and comfortable long-distance travel. With
a purely electric range of 49 – 57 kilometres* and an average fuel
consumption of 2.3 – 2.2 litres/100 km, the new BMW 545e xDrive
combines brand-typical driving dynamics and a high level of
long-distance ride comfort with extremely efficient use of resources.

The latest plug-in hybrid model of the BMW 5 Series is fitted with a
400V lithium-ion battery which is positioned under the rear seat in
order to save space. With a luggage volume of 410 litres, the
transport capacity of the BMW 545e xDrive is only slightly smaller
than of those model variants which are fitted with a conventional engine.

Different driving modes for maximum efficiency in accordance
with the relevant driving style and situation.

In order to make optimum use of the combination of the straight
six-cylinder engine featuring ultra-smooth running characteristics and
eDrive technology in all driving situations, the BMW 545e xDrive
supports the driver in numerous ways in terms of energy management.
Various driving modes, some of which can be individualised in their
operation, are simply selected by pressing the corresponding button on
the centre console.

The HYBRID mode is the default setting, which ensures a balanced
set-up and an intelligent interaction between combustion engine and
electric motor. It is also possible to select ELECTRIC mode as the
standard setting via the iDrive menu. In HYBRID mode, the electric
motor is predominantly used. The combustion engine only kicks in at
higher speeds or under intensive load conditions. Since the system is
linked to the navigation system, the interaction between combustion
engine and electric motor can be adapted more precisely to the route
profile, topography and other driving situations in an anticipatory
manner. The electric range is increased by recuperation in overrun and
braking phases. The energy supply saved in this way can then be used
specifically for locally emission-free driving through urban areas and
the arrival at the defined destination.

By pressing the HYBRID button twice, an efficiency-optimised version
of this operating mode (HYBRID ECO PRO) is activated.
The
coasting function on the overrun, among other things, contributes to a
further reduction in consumption. The navigation and sensor
data-supported control system also optimises the effectiveness of
braking energy recovery. When approaching a junction or a vehicle
driving ahead, for example, infinitely adaptive recuperation can be
put to particularly intensive use for the purpose of deceleration.

In SPORT mode, the electric motor supports the straight six-cylinder
petrol engine when the overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp is fully
needed. The set-up is designed for dynamic performance, and the
gearshift program is sporty.

The ELECTRIC mode, on the other hand, enables locally purely
emission-free driving up to 57 kilometres* and up to 140 km/h.

Special sounds for a special driving experience.

The new “ready to drive sound” produced by the BMW 545e xDrive is the
result of the collaboration with composer Hans Zimmer and is designed
to trigger joyful anticipation of the electric drive when the driver
enters the vehicle and presses the Start/Stop button.

A distinctive sound created especially for electrified BMW models is
used for the purpose of acoustic pedestrian protection, emitted via a
speaker system. The sound design in the low speed range of up to 30
km/h radiates a vibrant acoustic presence, though without impairing
the acoustic comfort of vehicle occupants.

Likewise, via the vehicle audio system, “Active Sound Design”
provides for an authentic and, in the SPORT mode of the Driving
Experience Control Switch, for a particularly intense and pronounced sound.

Electric mobility meets digitalisation: Digital services for
the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 5 Series.

The BMW Group also offers innovative digital services that actively
contribute towards increasing the attractiveness of electric driving
even further.

The BMW eDrive Zone service facilitates the automatic switching over
of the drive system to purely electric mode when entering an urban
low-emission zone and similar inner-city areas. In addition, local
emission-free driving with a BMW plug-in hybrid model is rewarded
through the globally unique loyalty programme BMW Points.

Apart from filling stations, the navigation system also displays
public charging points. When selecting a charging station, the driver
is also provided with a forecast on its occupation status as well as
recommendations for nearby restaurants or cafés. Moreover, BMW enables
BMW Charging customers to reserve an enabled charging station for a
limited period of time.

Furthermore, other products from BMW Charging also offer the
possibility of comfortable charging at home and when out and about.
These also comprise various versions of the Wallbox, including
installation service, individual offers for the purchase of
electricity and access to the world’s largest network of public
charging stations comprising more than 155,000 charging points in
Europe alone.

Preconditioning of the interior by means of auxiliary heating and air
conditioning ensures optimised comfort during any season. If the
preconditioning system is activated during the charging process after
defining a specific departure time, the system also guarantees the
full electric range in drive mode. The system is controlled either
from inside the vehicle or conveniently via the My BMW app.

Munich. The new BMW 3 Series range has taken on a
more sporting flavour than ever before, as the presence of two
top-class athletes at the sharp end of the line-up clearly
illustrates. From November 2019, the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (fuel
consumption combined: 7.4 – 7.0 l/100 km [38.2 – 40.4 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 168 – 160 g/km) will be joined in
the range by the BMW M340i xDrive Touring (fuel consumption combined:
7.6 – 7.2 l/100 km [37.2 – 39.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions
combined: 172 – 163 g/km). Powertrain and chassis technology developed
with race track expertise from BMW M GmbH, distinctive design cues,
exclusive standard specification and a cockpit created for the
enjoyment of driving pleasure at its most intense treat those on board
to a performance experience head and shoulders above anything else in
the midsize premium segment. From November 2019, the Sedan and Touring
models will also be available in BMW M340i First Edition guise.
Limited to 340 units in each case, the First Edition will include
particularly enticing design and equipment features.

The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan and BMW M340i xDrive Touring
represent a highly concentrated distillation of the sporting essence
that enshrines the 3 Series as the definitive BMW and has set it apart
from the competition for over 40 years. The original BMW 3 Series made
its mark at launch in 1975 with its strikingly agile handling
qualities. And the Touring model – which took to the stage for the
first time with the arrival of the second-generation “3” – combined
its trailblazing versatility with signature BMW dynamics. Powerful
engines (most notably of the six-cylinder in-line variety),
consistently upgraded chassis technology and the all-wheel-drive
system first introduced on the 3 Series have been serving up a
matchless driving experience ever since.

In the model’s latest incarnation, BMW M adds extra depth to the
dynamic potency at hand. A 275 kW/374 hp straight-six unit with
M TwinPower Turbo technology, an M Sport differential, M Sport
suspension including variable sport steering and M Sport brakes, plus
bespoke M exterior features with optimised aerodynamic properties form
a flawlessly composed overall package designed to maximise
performance. The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan powers from 0 to 100 km/h
(62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, the new BMW M340i xDrive Touring in
4.5 seconds. This makes both models half a second quicker than the
range-topping variants of the outgoing 3 Series.

Exceptional power: six-cylinder in-line engine with
M TwinPower Turbo technology develops 275 kW/374 hp.

The six-cylinder in-line engine developed exclusively for the new
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan and BMW M340i xDrive Touring stands out with
its instantaneous power delivery and appetite for revs, combined with
the smoothness for which BMW engines are renowned and unrivalled
levels of efficiency for its output class. The 3.0-litre power unit
features an aluminium crankcase with a closed-deck construction and a
likewise alloy cylinder head. Weight-minimised pistons and con rods
and a crankshaft made from forged steel increase internal engine
efficiency. Frictional losses are reduced through a process known as
‘form honing’ for the cylinder bores in the crankcase and by means of
their wire-arc sprayed steel coating.

The new straight-six generates 275 kW/374 hp, an increase of
35 kW/48 hp on the engine powering the previous range-topping models,
while peak torque is up by 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). Its
M TwinPower Turbo technology includes a twin-scroll turbocharger with
indirect charge air cooling integrated into the intake system,
latest-generation High Precision Injection direct petrol injection,
VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable
camshaft timing for the intake and exhaust sides. Integrating the
turbocharging system into the cast-steel manifold results in a
remarkably compact design and, at the same time, means the exhaust
flow only has to travel a short distance, allowing charge pressure to
develop rapidly from low revs. The turbine’s responsiveness is further
enhanced by a reduction in the mass moment of inertia of some 25 per
cent. And a wide-opening, electrically controlled wastegate helps to
keep emissions down. The maximum operating pressure of the direct
injection system, with its cantilevered injectors, has been increased
from 200 to 350 bar. This optimises fuel metering and minimises the
engine’s emissions.

M Technic Package with optimised cooling system available as
an option for the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan.

The highly efficient cooling system in the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan
and BMW M340i xDrive Touring keeps the engine, transmission and brakes
at their ideal operating temperature not only in everyday driving, but
also when the cars are pushed to their sporting extremes. It comprises
a high-temperature and a low-temperature circuit, plus indirect charge
air cooling. A split-cooling valve makes it possible to temporarily
shut off crankcase cooling, thereby optimising warm-up behaviour. Also
available as an option for the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan is the
M Technic Package, which adds two remote coolant radiators to meet the
particularly high demands placed on temperature management at the
outer limits of sporty driving – especially in high ambient temperatures.

Standard M Sport exhaust system generates emotionally rich soundtrack.

The new six-cylinder in-line engine delivers its prodigious power to
a highly distinctive backing track afforded even greater resonance by
the standard M Sport exhaust system. The flap-controlled system hits a
particularly rich and thrilling note when SPORT or SPORT+ mode is
engaged using the Driving Experience Control switch. The sound
accompanying the burgeoning swell of engine power creates a
spine-tingling acoustic experience for the occupants of the new
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan and BMW M340i xDrive Touring. The dual-branch,
twin-tailpipe exhaust system incorporates two petrol particulate
filters, enabling the BMW M duo to satisfy the stipulations of the
Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard.

Eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, intelligent
all-wheel drive and M Sport differential as standard.

The new straight-six power unit teams up as standard with the
latest-generation eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, standout
features of which include an optimised hydraulic control system, low
converter slip, effective damping of rotational irregularities and
extremely sporty gear shifts. The ratio spacing is perfectly attuned
to the engine’s performance characteristics, and so lends itself to
pulsating bursts of speed, while enhancing both driving comfort and
efficiency. The selector lever and standard shift paddles on the
steering wheel can both be used to assume manual control of the gear
selection process. There is also a Launch Control function for
accelerating off the line with maximum dynamic intent.

The intelligent all-wheel-drive system in the new
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan and BMW M340i xDrive Touring enables fully
variable distribution of drive power between the front and rear wheels
using an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer
case. BMW xDrive works in tandem with the DSC (Dynamic Stability
Control) system and reacts to changes in the driving situation with
great precision and in a fraction of a second, maximising traction,
agility and handling stability in all weather and road surface
conditions, and when the cars’ sporting capabilities are put to the
test. The system’s rear-biased setup helps to produce the driving
experience expected of an M car, and is especially pronounced with the
Driving Experience Control switch set to SPORT or SPORT+ mode. The
strategic apportioning of even more power to the rear wheels increases
agility when turning into corners, in particular.

The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan and new BMW M340i xDrive Touring
are also equipped with the M Sport differential as standard. The
electronically controlled, fully variable locking function in the rear
differential brings about an appreciable improvement in traction and
cornering prowess and also boosts directional stability and agility.
The locking effect generated by an electric motor limits speed
equalisation between the inside and outside rear wheel when cornering,
allowing the driver to power out of bends with extraordinary dynamic
verve. Governed by the DSC system, the locking function for the rear
differential also improves traction and power transmission when
driving on road surfaces with differing levels of grip for the left
and right rear wheels by preventing a wheel from spinning when it is
struggling for purchase. Together with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive,
this ensures power is channelled onto the road to maximum agility- and
dynamism-enhancing effect.

M Sport suspension and variable sport steering.

The chassis technology developed for the new BMW 3 Series range has
all the tools to deliver extremely sporty handling characteristics.
With their minimised weight and maximised rigidity, the components of
the double-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle
sharpen cornering dynamics and steering precision, as do the wide
tracks and optimum wheel camber settings. The M Sport suspension
included as standard on the new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan and new BMW
M340i xDrive Touring lowers their ride height by ten millimetres, and
features M-specific elastokinematic properties and lift-related
dampers. The damper control configuration making its debut in the new
BMW 3 Series reduces body movement perceptibly when smoothing out
vibrations caused by bumpy road surfaces and dynamic cornering. The
result is sporty, authoritative handling. This setup adds extra
hydraulic damping on rebound at the front axle and a
compression-limiting system at the rear. It is continuously variable
and adjusts the damper firmness progressively according to changing
spring travel.

Customers also have the option of Adaptive M suspension with
electronically controlled dampers. These dampers respond adaptively to
road surface conditions and driving style in order to eliminate
undesired body movement. To this end, the compression and rebound
stages are both adjusted continuously and independently of one
another. This enables finely metered spring and damping responses,
supplying the driver with only relevant information about the road
surface. Damping characteristics can be adjusted via the Driving
Experience Control switch. SPORT and SPORT+ modes optimise the cars’
ability to provide dynamic handling, creating a noticeable contrast to
the more comfort-oriented damper responses in COMFORT and ECO PRO modes.

Variable sport steering is another element of the M Sport
suspension and Adaptive M suspension packages. Combining Servotronic
speed-sensitive power assistance with a variable ratio that adjusts to
changes in the steering angle, it helps to give the cars superb
straightline poise while also lending itself to effortless low-speed
turning and manoeuvring. The variable sport steering’s sharp, precise
response enhances agility on turn-in, too.

M Sport brakes and M light-alloy wheels with mixed-size tyres.

Outstanding stopping power is delivered by the likewise standard
M Sport brakes, whose extremely sporty setup is headlined by short
pedal travel and a distinct pressure point. This braking system
features a particularly direct pedal ratio together with a special
hydraulic configuration comprising four-piston fixed callipers and

Munich. A combination of peerless dynamics and
exemplary efficiency defines the character of the new BMW 3 Series
Sedan. And now the addition to the range of drive solutions of a
plug-in hybrid system brings an extra, particularly future-focused
angle to the new sports sedan’s core attributes. The latest generation
of BMW eDrive technology teams up with a four-cylinder petrol engine
to significantly enhance the sporting prowess of the new BMW 330e
Sedan (whose worldwide market launch is now underway) and deliver an
even richer electric driving experience. Making its debut appearance
in a BMW, the standard-fitted XtraBoost raises the system output of
the plug-in hybrid to a maximum 215 kW/292 hp. The lightning-fast
responses of the drive system headline the new BMW 330e Sedan’s
driving characteristics. Added to which, its electric range is over
50 per cent greater than that of its predecessor; 66 kilometres (41
miles)* is possible with zero local emissions. Fuel consumption and
emissions are down by more than 15 per cent on the levels of the
predecessor model – to 1.9 – 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres (148.7 –
176.6 mpg imp)* and 43 – 37 grams of per kilometre*.

In the new BMW 330e Sedan, the intelligently controlled interplay of
electric motor and combustion engine reaches a whole new level. The
electrification of the powertrain contributes more than ever not only
to increasing efficiency but also to a distinctive form of driving
pleasure. The plug-in hybrid system pools the abilities of a 2.0-litre
four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and
output of 135 kW/184 hp with the talents of an electric motor, which
generates peak output of 83 kW/113 hp. Together, the two drive sources
produce maximum system torque of 420 Nm (310 lb-ft).

Premiere in the new BMW 330e Sedan: XtraBoost for maximum
dynamic performance.

A brand-new feature – and included as standard in the new BMW
330e Sedan – is XtraBoost, which reveals the car at its most dynamic.
The driver can quickly bring XtraBoost into play by activating SPORT
mode with the Driving Experience Control switch. A vigorous stamp on
the accelerator uncorks an additional 30 kW/40 hp on top of the
combined 185 kW/252 hp already generated by the combination of
electric motor and combustion engine – and XtraBoost keeps it on tap
for up to 10 seconds. The result is the signature powertrain character
of the BMW 3 Series Sedan, comprising (for the first time in a hybrid
model from BMW) incredibly sporty yet also precise accelerator
response, and a specific shift program for the eight-speed Steptronic
transmission including engine-braking downshifts.

The instant-impact XtraBoost delivers a significantly more intense
experience of acceleration than a conventionally powered vehicle with
comparable output could offer. For example, if the driver suddenly
puts their foot down hard from 20 km/h (12 mph), in as little as a
second the new BMW 330e Sedan accelerates with around twice the vigour
of a car powered solely by a combustion engine. Within three seconds,
it opens up a car’s-length gap. XtraBoost can still be accessed with
the high-voltage battery at minimum charge, as well as in kickdown and
with the transmission selector lever in the M or S position.

The new BMW 330e Sedan sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in
5.9 seconds en route to a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph). The driving
experience is accompanied by a model-specific and emotionally engaging
drive system note, which also finds its way into the interior. And so
the new BMW 330e Sedan vividly showcases its sporty and dynamic side,
blended with the proven qualities of a plug-in hybrid car.

Pure-electric driving at up to 140 km/h (87 mph).

In the HYBRID driving mode, the new BMW 330e Sedan can hit speeds of
up to 110 km/h (68 mph) on electric power alone – an increase of
30 km/h (19 mph) over its predecessor. And ELECTRIC mode opens the
door to locally emission-free driving at 140 km/h (87 mph), up from
120 km/h (75 mph). Hybrid-specific standard features of the new BMW
330e Sedan include acoustic pedestrian protection. When driving on
electric power, an exterior speaker system generates an unmistakable
sound created specifically for electrified BMWs. At low speeds, the
drive system’s bespoke note exudes aural presence, without impinging
on the acoustic comfort of those on board.

The new BMW 330e Sedan’s electric motor is integrated into the
eight-speed Steptronic transmission, saving space. Intelligent design
allows the hybrid-specific version of the transmission to be no more
than 15 millimetres longer than corresponding variants for
conventionally powered variants of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan. Power
generation by means of braking energy recuperation, where the electric
motor plays the role of a generator, works particularly effectively.
The electric energy channelled into the high-voltage battery either in
this way or when plugged into the power grid also feeds the 12-volt
on-board power supply. All of which renders a combustion engine-driven
generator surplus to requirements and further enhances overall system efficiency.

High range and efficiency bring tax benefits.

With a gross energy content of 12.0 kWh, the lithium-ion high-voltage
battery in the new BMW 330e Sedan enables an increase in electric
range of more than 50 per cent over its predecessor – to 59 – 66
kilometres (37 – 41 miles)*. Meanwhile, the second generation of the
plug-in hybrid sports sedan cuts fuel consumption and emissions by
over 15 per cent to 1.9 – 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres (148.7 – 176.6
mpg imp)* and 43 – 37 grams of CO2 per kilometre*. The
combined-cycle electric power consumption of the new BMW 330e Sedan is
15.4 – 14.8 kWh per 100 kilometres*. With its low CO2
emissions and long electric range, the new BMW 330e Sedan fulfils all
the requirements for reduced company car tax in Germany, where only
half the gross list price is taken as a basis in determining the
benefit of kind for private use.

The high-voltage battery in the new BMW 330e Sedan is mounted under
the rear seats, while the petrol tank sits over the rear axle. This
means the plug-in hybrid’s cargo-carrying ability is only slightly
reduced, and load capacity of 375 litres can be expanded as required
thanks to the 40 : 20 : 40 split/folding rear-seat backrests.

Customers opting for the plug-in hybrid model can choose from
virtually the full list of options otherwise available for the new BMW
3 Series Sedan. The new BMW 330e Sedan is also offered in Advantage,
Sport Line, Luxury Line or M Sport form as an alternative to basic
specification. And it can be ordered with features including Adaptive
M suspension with variable sport steering and M Sport brakes. From
November 2019, the new BMW 330e Sedan will also be available with a
trailer coupling with electrically pivoting hitch ball. The maximum
trailer load for the plug-in hybrid model is 750 kilograms.

Auxiliary heating and air conditioning as standard.

The full selection of innovative comfort- and safety-optimising
driver assistance systems – from the Driving Assistant Professional
with steering and lane control assistant to the Parking Assistant
including reversing assistant – is also available. Standard
specification for the new BMW 330e Sedan includes preconditioning of
the interior with the heating or air conditioning. Energy stored in
the high-voltage battery is used to power the auxiliary heating. In
low outside temperatures, this means the interior can be warmed up
with user-friendly ease before getting into the car, even when the
battery charge is low. This interior preconditioning function also
allows the interior to be cooled in higher ambient temperature.

With the launch of the new BMW 330e Sedan, new digital services will
be presented which make charging the high-voltage battery during a
journey even easier and more attractive. Selecting a public charging
station prompts the navigation system to come up with recommendations
on nearby hotels, restaurants, cafés and sights or cultural centres.
And it is also possible to check the whereabouts of charging stations
via the display and control system. The driver can likewise check the
predicted availability of public charging points at the time of
arrival. Added to which, it will be possible to reserve charging
points for a limited time, should this facility be offered by the
charging infrastructure operator in question.

The drive technology presented in the plug-in hybrid model variant of
the new sports sedan will also be available in the new
BMW 330e Touring from summer 2020. This will be the first time
customers ordering a Touring model from BMW can choose a plug-in
hybrid drive system. The new offering sees BMW forging ahead with its
model offensive for vehicles with electrified drive systems.

BMW plug-in hybrid models offer an array of benefits in
everyday use.

BMW’s plug-in hybrid drive systems already offer users a host of
additional benefits over traditional solutions:

Money-saving: Electric driving in urban areas is cheaper than
using petrol or diesel if the plug-in hybrid vehicle is charged at
home or at the workplace at low cost.

Interior always at the right temperature, even before you get in:
auxiliary heating and auxiliary air conditioning are fitted as standard.

Braking is winning: The battery is charged under braking. In
conventional vehicles, braking generates only heat and brake dust.

The best of both worlds: Plug-in hybrids provide electric driving
pleasure in urban areas and classical BMW driving pleasure over
longer distances.

Smoothing the way into the future: Because a plug-in hybrid can
run emission-free, it is eligible to enter many low-emission zones,
enjoys extra parking privileges and saves on toll charges.

Better quality of life in cities: By driving on electric power,
users can actively contribute to reducing emissions and traffic
noise in cities.

Future-proof: BMW eDrive Zones ensure emission-free driving in
low-emission zones.

The new BMW 330e Sedan is ready to take advantage of low-emission
zones designated by cities exclusively for zero-emission driving. With
the new BMW eDrive Zones function (which will be part of standard
equipment for BMW plug-in hybrid models from 2020 and can be
retrofitted), geofencing technology will make it possible to detect
low-emission zones automatically. When entering these zones, the
vehicle switches into pure-electric driving mode automatically, from
which point it behaves like a fully-electric vehicle and can therefore
enjoy equal access rights (subject to local regulations). The new
function ensures the potential of plug-in hybrid vehicles is utilised
to even greater effect. The increase in the proportion of journeys
driven on electric power not only plays a role in optimising
efficiency, it also helps to reduce operating costs for customers.
This applies to driving in urban areas, in particular, where an
electric drive system delivers a higher level of efficiency across the
board than a petrol or diesel engine.

New BMW 330e Sedan has a smaller overall CO2 footprint.

The “real” environmental impact of plug-in hybrid vehicles has been
questioned on occasion, especially in markets where the proportion of
green energy used by the public energy grid remains small. The BMW
Group conducted a full-cycle CO2 certification for the new
BMW 330e Sedan – from raw material procurement, the supply chain,
production and the use phase, all the way to recycling.

This revealed the CO2 footprint of the new BMW 330e Sedan
to be 20 per cent smaller than that of the new BMW 330i Sedan when
running on average European power in the use phase. When charging the
car with green energy, its CO2 footprint is reduced by as
much as 60 per cent.

CO2 EMISSIONS & CONSUMPTION.

Munich. The new BMW 3 Series Sedan is picking up more
speed on its way to its market launch in the spring of 2019. The BMW M
GmbH is now presenting an extremely dynamic model variant of the new
sports sedan. The BMW M340i xDrive Sedan (combined fuel consumption:
7.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 172 g/km*) is powered
by a newly developed straight six-cylinder petrol engine with
275 kW/374 hp. Together, high engine performance, M-specific
suspension technology and intelligent four-wheel drive provide for
outstanding driving dynamics that are unparalleled in the midsize
segment. The exceptional sporty character is underscored by
model-specific design and equipment features. The Los Angeles Auto
Show (30 November – 9 December 2018) will serve as the setting for the
world premiere of the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan. The market launch will
commence in the USA in July 2019, followed by Europe in July.

Acceleration, cornering dynamics, agility, precision, braking – the
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan is setting new benchmarks in all areas relevant
to driving dynamics. It makes consistent use in particular of the
vehicle concept of the BMW 3 Series Sedan, which is oriented towards
sporting driving pleasure and comprises a low centre of gravity,
optimised weight, well-balanced axle load distribution as well as
increased body rigidity and uprated suspension mountings. Moreover,
the suspension technology and aerodynamics are precisely tuned to the
new power unit’s high performance characteristics. In addition, the
M Sport suspension, variable sports steering, an M Sport differential,
the M Sport brake system and 18-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed
tyres are all standard equipment features for the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan.

Straight six-cylinder engine with superior power development
and characteristic sound.

The power plant developed for the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan raises the
vehicle’s characteristics in areas of performance, response, revving
power, running smoothness and efficiency, so typical of BMW straight
six-cylinder engines, to a new level. The 3-litre engine features an
aluminium crankcase and an aluminium cylinder head. The turbocharging
system, which was constructed according to the TwinScroll principle,
has also been redeveloped. The integration of the compact steel
exhaust manifold and turbocharger effectuates rapid boost pressure
development. A mass moment of inertia reduced by around 25 percent
enhances turbine response and a wide opening, electrically controlled
waste gate contributes towards better emission values. Fuel supply is
performed by means of High Precision Injection technology, the
injectors of which now operate at an injection pressure increased to
up to 350 bar. The current version of M TwinPower Turbo technology is
complemented by fully variable valve control VALVETRONIC and variable
camshaft control Double VANOS.

The drive technology, which has been extensively redeveloped and
numerous details of which have been completely renewed, provides the
six-cylinder with an increase in output by 35 kW/48 hp to
275 kW/374 hp vs. the most powerful engine previously used for the BMW
3 Series, as well as an increase in maximum torque by 50 Nm to 500 Nm.
As a result, the car has also clearly gained in sporting prowess. The
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4
seconds – half a second faster than the top-of-the-range model of the
previous generation of the BMW 3 Series Sedan.

Power development and speed increase are accompanied by the
characteristic sound of the straight six-cylinder engine, which has
gained additional presence thanks to the M Sport exhaust unit. Above
all in the SPORT and SPORT+ modes, which can be activated via the
Driving Experience Control switch, the valve-controlled exhaust system
generates a particularly distinctive sound. The sound development that
accompanies the engine’s dynamic power delivery is also intensively
perceptible inside the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan. The dual-pipe M Sport
exhaust system is fitted with two petrol particulate filters, enabling
the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan to meet the requirements of the Euro
6d-TEMP emissions standard. Combined fuel consumption is 7.5 litres
per 100 kilometre* and CO2 emissions are172 grams per kilometre.*

Standard features: 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission
and BMW xDrive with rear-wheel bias.

The BMW M340i xDrive Sedan comes as standard with the 8-speed
Steptronic sports transmission of the latest generation, which is
characterised, amongst other things, by an optimised hydraulic
control system and exceptionally high shifting dynamics. Short
ratios for the lower gears improve acceleration and the Launch
Control function can be used for accelerating with maximum dynamics
from a standstill. Shift paddles on the steering wheel facilitate
manual gear selection at any time.

With fully variable power distribution between the front and rear
axle, the intelligent four-wheel drive technology featured by the
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan ensures maximum traction, agility and vehicle
stability. The rear-wheel bias of BMW xDrive supports that
brand-typical driving experience and is particularly strongly
effective in the driver experience control modes SPORT and SPORT+.
The targeted transfer of drive force to the rear wheels enhances
agility when steering into bends.

Furthermore, the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan is equipped as standard
with the M Sport differential. The electronically controlled, fully
variable rear-wheel locking function noticeably contributes not only
towards an increase in traction, but also enhances stability and
agility of the vehicle.

M-specific suspension technology transforms performance into dynamics.

The construction concept used for the suspension of the new BMW 3
Series Sedan offers the ideal prerequisites for sporty handling. The
components of the double-joint spring strut front axle and the
five-arm rear axle, both of which have been optimised in terms of
weight and stiffness, enhance cornering dynamics and steering
precision, as do the larger track widths and optimum wheel camber
angles. In addition to a vehicle lowering by 10mm, the standard
M Sport suspension of the BMW M340i xDrive Sedan comprises
M specific elastokinematics and the new lift-related damper control
function. The Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled
dampers is also optionally available.

A further integral part of the M Sport suspension and the Adaptive
M suspension is the Variable Sport Steering feature, which supports
agile cornering with outstanding feedback as well as spontaneous and
precise response.

Combining an extremely sporty set-up – headlined by short pedal
travel and a distinct pressure point – the M Sport brake system,
which also comes as standard, provides effective stopping power. The
M sport brakes achieve this with a more direct ratio as well as a
different hydraulic configuration including four-piston, fixed
calliper brakes and 348 millimetres discs at the front and
single-piston, floating calliper brakes with 345 millimetres discs
at the rear. The blue-painted brake callipers bear the M logo.
Standard 18-inch M light alloy wheels are combined with mixed tyres.
Tyres of the format 225/45 R 18 are mounted on the front wheels,
whilst size 255/40 R 18 tyres are used at the rear. 19-inch M light
alloy wheels in two designs and 19-inch BMW Individual light alloy
wheels, likewise fitted with mixed tyres, are also available as an
option. The 19-inch M light alloy wheels come with high-performance
tyres facilitating a particularly effective transfer of longitudinal
and lateral forces.

Design and equipment features with a clear emphasis on sportiness.

The new BMW M340i xDrive Sedan’s superior performance
characteristics are reflected in model-specific design and equipment
features. The design of the front apron, the side sills and the rear
end, optimise both the cooling air supply and aerodynamics. Unique
design elements include the BMW kidney grille boasting a mesh
design, the rear spoiler in body colour and trapezoidal exhaust
tailpipe trims. The vehicle’s exclusive look is also complemented by
exterior mirror caps, air intake struts, the front surfaces of the
BMW kidney grille, tailpipe trims and the model lettering all
finished in Cerium Grey metallic.

Inside the car, sports seats with M-specific upholstery in a
Sensatec/Alcantara trim, the anthracite BMW Individual roof liner,
the M leather-clad steering wheel with shift paddles and interior
trim strips in Aluminium Tetragon provide for an intensive driving
pleasure oriented ambience. The digital instrument cluster bears the
lettering “M340i”. A further exclusive design feature of the
BMW M340i xDrive Sedan are the front door sills also boasting the
model lettering.

Munich. Saturday saw the launch of the new BMW 5
Series sedan. At the same time, BMW Welt is devoting an exclusive
special exhibition to the world’s most success business sedan.
Visitors have the opportunity not only to see two models up close but
also to experience the new technical features at interactive stations.
And film fans have the chance to view the new BMW film “The Escape”
and see the actual car used in the film along with several props.

“The Escape” – the new BMW film.

In the latest release from BMW Films, “The Escape”, the new BMW 5
Series sedan plays the leading role. Clive Owen, the Hollywood actor
and cult driver from “The Hire” films, plays a mysterious hired driver
and rising star Dakota Fanning plays Lily, a clone, in an
action-packed short featuring thrilling chase sequences and
breathtaking stunts. From now till February 25, visitors to BMW Welt
have a unique opportunity to experience the original BMW 5 Series
model from the film “The Escape”. Other film props and exclusive
insights into the making of the short make this special exhibition a
one-off experience – and not just for cineastes.

“The Escape” is an homage to the legendary “The Hire” series of BWM
films on its 15th anniversary. A total of eight of those films were
made in two series in 2001 and 2002. Each of the films featured
Hollywood greats both in front of and behind the camera. Playing
alongside Clive Owen as the hired driver, were stars such as Forest
Whitaker, Mickey Rourke, Madonna, Gary Oldman and James Brown. Cult
directors including Guy Ritchie, Ang Lee, David Fincher and Ridley
Scott took the BMW shorts to Hollywood level, which did not go
unnoticed at international film festivals. In addition to the Titanium
Lion in Cannes, “The Hire” won just about every other award for the
creative arts.

The new BMW 5 Series exhibition.

Sporty, elegant and stylish, the seventh generation of the BMW 5
Series sedan had its market launch worldwide in February 2017. An
unprecedented array of high-tech features and improved handling make
the new BMW 5 sedan an extremely attractive package. The new BMW 5
Series sets new standards in connectivity and driver assistance,
offering BMW customers perfect support in their day-to-day driving.
The dynamic nature of this new premium car is also reflected in the
exhibition in BMW Welt.

Since the start of February, visitors have been able to inspect the
latest generation of the BMW 5 Series sedan in a special display
opposite the BMW Welt Lifestyle Shop. Multimedia elements are used to
illustrate the innovative key features of the new BMW 5 Series for
visitors, including new controls and displays, the digital BMW
Connected mobility assistant, and the various diver assistance
systems. Various touch screens provide visitors with a comprehensive
insight into the dedication and innovation that has gone into
developing this vehicle. One of the three walls focus on the
multi-sensual experience. Among other things, visitors can find out
about the Ambient Air Package. This package is an optional extra on
the new BMW 5 Series. At the push of a button, the Ambient Air Package
fills the interior of the car with a subtle, pleasant fragrance.
Visitors can test two of the eight available fragrances at the
exhibition. Ambient light creates a relaxed, cozy atmosphere in the
interior, underlining the luxurious feel of the vehicle and serving as
a functional light source. A backlit “5” at the exhibition
demonstrates the variety of lighting options and the moods they create.

The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series.

With around 7.9 million vehicles sold by the end of 2016, the BMW 5
range is one of BMW’s core series. The sixth generation alone recorded
sales of more than 2.1 million, making it the global leader in the
premium segment of the upper mid-range. The seventh generation of the
new BMW 5 Series has now arrived to defend this lead with an
impressive array of innovative features. Intelligent voice control,
gesture control and a 70 percent larger head-up display in combination
with the networked services of BMW Connected, together with features
such as on-street parking information and remote 3D view are just some
of the many highlights of the new BMW 5 Series sedan.

The new BMW 5 Series sedan will be on show throughout 2017 in the
special exhibition. “The Escape” set will be on display only until the
end of February. On Monday, February 14, the first customer will drive
away their new BMW 5 Series sedan at a BMW Welt handover.

Munich.
To coincide with the premiere of the new BMW 5 Series range,
BMW M GmbH is bringing out a sporty BMW M Performance version of the
world’s most successful business sedan. For the time being at least,
the new BMW M550i xDrive will assume the status of range-topper in
the new BMW 5 Series line-up. Boasting a mighty M Performance
TwinPower Turbo engine, BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with
rear-wheel bias and a bespoke M Performance chassis set-up, the new
BMW M550i xDrive can be classed as both a four-door sports car and
the most dynamic business sedan around.
With its abundant torque reserves and high-revving
characteristics, the V8 power unit serves up a matchless blend of
supreme performance, wonderfully precise driving dynamics and
uncompromised everyday usability. This all helps the new
BMW M550i xDrive to set the pace in its segment and turn each and
every drive into an exhilarating experience.

* Provisional performance data.

** Fuel consumption figures are provisional, based on the EU
test cycle and may vary depending on the tyre format specified.

State-of-the-art high-performance engine melds power with
efficiency.

The new BMW M550i xDrive is the first BMW 5 Series
M Performance model to be powered by a petrol engine, namely a
specifically modified M Performance TwinPower Turbo
eight-cylinder unit with a displacement of 4.4 litres. The V8 is
equipped with two twin-scroll turbochargers and features the
High Precision Injection direct injection system, Valvetronic fully
variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control. This
all adds up to an output of 340 kW/462 hp* at 5,500 rpm* (fuel
consumption combined: 8.9 l/100 km [31.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions
combined: 204 g/km)** and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb‑ft)*
that can be summoned from just 1,800 rpm*.

The state-of-the-art, high-performance engine comes with all the
dynamic credentials expected of a BMW M Performance Automobile,
propelling the BMW M550i xDrive from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0
seconds, then on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h
(155 mph). At the same time, the new V8 engine also demonstrates the
exceptional efficiency of the M Performance TwinPower Turbo
technology. The new BMW M550i xDrive already complies with the
exacting EU6c emissions standard.

Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent
all-wheel drive.

Drive transfer in the most powerful BMW 5 Series Sedan is, at
present, handled by the standard-fit Steptronic Sport eight-speed
transmission, which plays a significant role in the superb dynamics
of the BMW M550i xDrive. The M Performance configuration of the
shift modes has been tailored to the characteristics of the V8
engine, with distinctly sporty gear changes and more instantaneous
downshifts across the entire rev range, and serves to enrich the
thrilling driving experience. For an even sharper sporting edge, the
eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission can also be operated using
the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The transmission itself
helps to cut fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its compact
design, low weight and optimised efficiency.

The BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system in the BMW M550i xDrive
splits drive power between all four wheels as the situation demands
– intelligently and with a rear-wheel bias. BMW xDrive is thereby
key to delivering two intrinsic elements of the trademark
M Performance driving experience under all conditions: superlative
driving performance and extremely precise handling. And when the
adaptive M Sport suspension (lowered by 10 millimetres) is added to
the equation, along with either the standard 19-inch M light-alloy
wheels in Cerium Grey metallic matt or the optional***
20-inch light-alloy wheels (in an exclusive design, also painted in
the Cerium Grey metallic matt finish), the result is tremendous
handling stability and optimum traction, come what may.

In addition, the power steering with M-specific responses in the
SPORT and SPORT+ settings serves to highlight the crisp handling and
precise driving properties of the sportiest representative yet of the
new-generation BMW 5 Series. Steering commands are executed with
pinpoint accuracy and the driver receives the sort of feedback that
guarantees immense driving pleasure when powering along twisty
sections of road. The performance-enhancing specification of the
BMW M550i xDrive is completed to perfection by the

M Sport brakes with brake callipers in Blue metallic and
M badging, which combine outstanding stopping power with excellent feel.

*** Scheduled to be available from 07/ 2017.

Sporty looks with exclusive M Performance equipment features.

The exterior of the new BMW M550i xDrive boldly expresses the
sedan’s dynamic performance capabilities, while also underlining its
status as the flagship model in the new BMW 5 Series range. The M
aerodynamic package, including an M rear spoiler with Gurney flap on
the boot lid, accentuates the sporty, dynamic lines of the new
BMW 5 Series, at the same time as optimising the airflow around and
over the car. The exterior mirror caps, the kidney grille surround,
the special M Performance bars on the front air intake and the two
Air Breathers at the sides all sport the exclusive Cerium Grey
metallic finish, while the high-gloss Shadow Line trim around the
windows gives added impact to the dynamic business sedan’s
undeniably sporty appearance. An M sports exhaust system – with
exclusive tailpipe embellishers in Black chrome on the left and
right – is responsible for producing the unmistakable and rousing
BMW M soundtrack.

Illuminated door sills bearing the inscription “M550i xDrive”
beckon passengers into the interior, where M sports seats
upholstered in Black Dakota leather with blue contrast stitching,
the latest version of the M sports steering wheel, M design floor
mats and special interior trim strips and pedals made from aluminium
combine to create the aura of sporting exclusivity that is a
hallmark of all BMW M Performance Automobiles.

Driver assistance systems take the hard work out of routine tasks.

Just like the other models in the latest-generation BMW 5 Series
line-up, the BMW M550i xDrive also offers an even wider choice of
assistance systems to help the driver, if desired. These include an
evasion aid, crossing traffic warning system and active Lane Change
Warning, which uses steering inputs to avert an impending collision.
The optionally available Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane
Keeping Assistant now feature extended functionality. And
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which allows speed limits to be
automatically imported into the cruise control system, likewise
represents another step along the road to automated driving for the BMW M550i xDrive.

Forging an even closer link between man, machine and the
outside world.

The latest generation of the BMW 5 Series enables close-knit
connectivity between the driver, vehicle and outside world thanks to
BMW Connected. This new system links up devices such as smartphones,
smartwatches, computers and tablets, as well as the vehicle’s
navigation system, via the BMW servers. This, then, is highly
intelligent technology. Indeed, it is capable of identifying
movement patterns as well as personal preferences, turning it into a
de facto personal mobility manager that helps users to overcome with
ease the increasingly complex challenges of day-to-day mobility.
Before the journey has even started, BMW Connected automatically
factors in Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) for route-planning
purposes, and recommends departing earlier if a detour has to be
made due to traffic hold-ups. And although BMW Connected uses the
vehicle’s location as the basis for calculating the route in the
usual way, it takes the BMW driver’s whereabouts into account too.
The new system also merges the functions and services of the
familiar BMW Remote app and BMW Connected app. Plus, users are able
to access products such as ParkNow for digitised reservation and
payment of parking spaces, not to mention the intelligent On-Street
Parking Information feature, which identifies the areas of a town
where drivers are most likely to find a free parking spot. And if
the optional Remote Parking system is specified, the
BMW 5 Series Sedan can be manoeuvred into even the tightest spaces
from outside the vehicle with the help of the car key. Last but not
least, once the car has been parked, BMW Connected helps to guide
users to their final destination on foot.

continue the remarkable success recorded by its predecessors; around
7.9 million BMW 5 Series cars were sold across its first six
generations. “The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series points the
way into the future, as we have defined it with our NUMBER ONE >
NEXT strategy. We see technological leadership, emotionally rich
products and digitalisation as essential factors in achieving success.
With the expansion of our model portfolio in the large-vehicle
classes, we are satisfying the wishes of many customers. I’m in no
doubt that the new BMW 5 Series will set new benchmarks
technologically, but also have huge emotional appeal. It remains the
epitome of the business sedan,” says Harald Krüger, Chairman of the
Board of Management at BMW AG.

Superior driving pleasure and unsurpassed aerodynamics.
Rigorous application of the BMW EfficientLightweight
lightweight design concept, with increased use of aluminium and
high-strength steels, reduces the weight of the 5 Series Sedan by up
to 100 kilograms from that of its predecessor. The newly designed
chassis, a low centre of gravity, BMW’s hallmark even weight
distribution and a lightweight body offering exceptional torsional
stiffness combine a wonderfully dynamic driving experience with the
long-distance comfort for which the BMW 5 Series is renowned. Various
chassis options such as Integral Active Steering, which can now be
teamed with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, add further talents to
a dynamics-focused overall package designed to ensure the BMW 5 Series
once again stands at the top of its class. The drag coefficient of the
new, 4,935 millimetre-long BMW 5 Series Sedan (Cd = 0.22 at its most
efficient) sets the benchmark in its class.

The next step to automated driving.

A wealth of assistance systems are on hand in the new BMW 5 Series to
offer the driver unbeatable support – not only at critical moments but
also in less demanding situations at the wheel, such as traffic jams,
slow-moving traffic and monotonous stretches of motorway. To this end,
it is fitted as standard with a stereo camera, which teams up with
optional radar and ultrasound sensors to monitor the area around the
car. New features in the BMW 5 Series alongside the evasion aid and
Crossing traffic warning are the Lane Change Assistant and Lane
keeping assistant with active side collision protection. The latter
keeps an eye on the lane markings and the area around the car, and
actively helps the driver to avoid looming collisions by applying
corrective steering inputs.

The BMW 5 Series also takes another step towards automated driving
with extended functions for the optional Active Cruise Control (ACC)
system and Steering and lane control assistant. These include adoption
of speed restrictions, which drivers can select as part of the Speed
Limit Assist option. Drivers can confirm adoption of a speed
restriction and make an adjustment of +/– 15 km/h / 9 mph in the
system settings. From rest to 210 km/h (130 mph) the car assists the
driver with distance-keeping, accelerating, braking and lane control.
This increases comfort significantly – in particular at low speeds and
in slow-moving traffic on clogged up motorway sections. The
intelligent Auto Start Stop function now adjusts its responses to the
route and traffic conditions and therefore offers even greater driving comfort.

Intuitive usability and extensive comfort.
With even greater user-friendliness as its goal, the new BMW 5
Series is equipped with the latest-generation iDrive system. In top
specification, it displays navigation, telephone and entertainment
features, plus vehicle functions, on a high-resolution 10.25-inch
screen. The system can be operated using the iDrive Controller, by
voice command or gestures, or by touching the display controls
directly, as the driver wishes. The large, tile-style panels can be
arranged as desired and show the content of the underlying menus in
constantly updated form. The latest-generation full-colour BMW Head-Up
Display has a projection surface that is 70 per cent larger than
before and displays traffic signs, telephone listings, radio stations,
music tracks, navigation instructions and warnings from the assistance systems.

Maximising the levels of on-board comfort are extended storage
options, greater legroom for rear-seat passengers and comfort seats
with massage function, not to mention innovative seat operation using
touch sensors and four-zone climate control complete with ionisation
and discreet air fragrancing. Special Synergy Thermoacoustic Capsule
(SYNTAK) engine encapsulation technology, the acoustic glazing for the
windscreen and the acoustic headliner bring about another noticeable
reduction in noise levels inside the car. All headlight variants
specified for the BMW 5 Series Sedan come as standard with LED
technology. Available as an option are Adaptive LED Headlights with
variable light distribution including adaptive roundabout lights and
BMW Selective Beam anti-dazzle high beam with a range of up to 500 metres.

Advanced link-up of man, machine and environment.
The new BMW 5 Series also offers a compelling proposition in
terms of connectivity. Extensive BMW ConnectedDrive features are
joined by new services which lavish business travellers with extra
comfort and save them time. These include the new ParkNow technology
for digital parking space reservation and payment, the On-Street
Parking Information intelligent parking space search function and the
optional Parking Assistant, which detects empty spots and parks the
vehicle automatically. Plus, the Microsoft Exchange service now
enables Microsoft Office 365 users to sync emails, calendar entries
and contacts and edit them inside their car. Meanwhile, the optional
Remote Parking system allows the BMW 5 Series Sedan to be manoeuvred
into even the tightest parking spaces remotely using the car key. And
smartphone integration has been further improved – from Apple CarPlay
(which, in a first for a carmaker, has been incorporated fully
wirelessly), to inductive phone charging and the WiFi hotspot for up
to ten devices.

Personalised content through BMW Connected Onboard.
BMW Connected, the personal digital mobility assistant from
BMW, has been available in Europe since July 2016. The next
development stage of the system, complete with additional services, is
set to be introduced with the new BMW 5 Series. BMW Connected Onboard
gives drivers an overview of their mobility-related information.
Relevant content such as the upcoming navigation destinations and
estimated arrival time recorded in their personal mobility agenda are
transferred seamlessly into the car from their smartphone and
displayed on the personalised screen. Remote 3D View allows drivers to
call up three-dimensional views of the area around their car on their
smartphone while on the move. And that means they need never lose
sight of their car.

BMW 530i and BMW 540i: the new petrol engines.
All the engines in the 5 Series Sedan line-up belong to the
newly developed, modular BMW EfficientDynamics family of power units.
BMW TwinPower Turbo technology imbues all the members of the family
with outstanding performance combined with exceptional efficiency. Two
diesel engines and two petrol variants will be available from launch,
working in tandem with either rear-wheel drive or BMW xDrive
intelligent all-wheel drive.

The new two-litre four-cylinder in-line engine in the BMW 530i
develops peak torque of 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) and maximum output of
185 kW/252 hp. Its fuel consumption in the combined cycle comes in at
5.4 litres/100 km (52.3 mpg imp)*, which means CO2 emissions of
126 g/km – down more than 11 per cent on its predecessor’s figures.
The BMW 530i accelerates from 0 ‑ 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds on
its way to a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

The flagship engine at launch will be the 250 kW/340 hp unit under
the bonnet of the new BMW 540i. This three-litre straight-six produces
torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). Despite its extra output and sharper
dynamic edge, average fuel consumption stands at only 6.5 l/100 km
(43.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions are kept to just 150 g/km*. In xDrive
guise, the BMW 540i powers from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 4.8 seconds.

BMW 520d and BMW 530d: the new diesel engines.
The four-cylinder diesel engine powering the BMW 520d
develops 140 kW/190 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). Fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions are 4.1 l/100 km (68.9 mpg imp)* and
108 g/km with the manual gearbox specified or 4.0 l/100 km (70.6 mpg
imp)* and 107 g/km with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The
sedan accelerates from 0 ‑ 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.6 seconds
(Steptronic). Top speed is 237 km/h (147 mph).

* Fuel consumption figures were calculated according to the EU test
cycle and may vary depending on the tyre format specified. Some
figures are provisional.

The new BMW 530d likewise does a nice line in dynamics and
efficiency. Producing 195 kW/265 hp and peak torque of 620 Nm (457
lb-ft), the six-cylinder in-line unit is clearly superior to the
equivalent model in the outgoing range. And yet the BMW 530d also
makes do with average fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100 km (62.8 mpg imp)*
and CO2 emissions of 118 g/km – an approximately 13 per cent
improvement on its predecessor. The new BMW 530d races from 0 – 100
km/h (62 mph) in just 5.7 seconds, and on to an electronically
governed 250 km/h (155 mph).

The CO2 champion, the plug-in hybrid and the eight-cylinder
sports star.
Not long after the launch of the new 5 Series Sedan, BMW will
be adding another three engine variants to the line-up. The
140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel engine will be presented in its
most efficient form in the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition with
eight-speed Steptronic. Its CO2 emissions of just 102 g/km are the
lowest in the sedan’s class (average fuel consumption: 3.9 l/100 km
[72.4 mpg imp]*).

Also to come in March 2017 is a BMW 5 Series Sedan with plug-in
hybrid drive system, in the form of the BMW 530e iPerformance. The
combination of the BMW eDrive electric drive concept and a
four-cylinder petrol engine produces extremely low CO2 emissions of
just 44 g/km (1.9 l/100 km [148.7 mpg imp])*. System output is 185
kW/252 hp.

In March 2017 the BMW M550i xDrive will take over as the sporting
highlight of the new BMW 5 Series range, for the time being at least.
Its V8 engine – developing 340 kW/462 hp and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of
torque – impresses not only with its remarkable performance but also
when it comes to efficiency (fuel consumption, combined: 8.9 l/100 km
[31.7 mpg imp], CO2 emissions 204 g/km*). The BMW M550i xDrive
dispatches the 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 4.0 seconds.

* Fuel consumption figures were calculated according to the EU test
cycle and may vary depending on the tyre format specified. Some
figures are provisional.

Munich. BMW combines high performance with a
time-honoured brand of driving pleasure and consummate everyday
usability – that was the confirmation provided once again by the
readers’ poll conducted by German motoring magazine “sport auto”. Five
class wins and a second place represented an outstanding return for
the BMW Group’s brands in the “sport auto Award 2014”. The BMW M3
Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe were among the biggest voter favourites, with
the two BMW M Division models asserting their superiority in the
classes for “Saloons/Estates up to €100,000” and “Coupés up to
€100,000” respectively. The winners in the “Coupés up to €50,000” and
“Compact Cars” categories also carry an “M” in their model designation
– the BMW M235i Coupe and BMW M135i. Elsewhere in the competition, the
BMW 335i held sway in the “Saloons/Estates up to €50,000” class,
reprising its success from the previous year in impressive style. And
second place for the BMW M550d xDrive in the “Diesel Cars” class
highlights the BMW Group’s leading status across all classes as a
maker of sporting cars boasting exceptional efficiency.

BMW M3 and BMW M4 reinforce their elite status.
From the moment they went on sale, the BMW M3 (37.1 percent of
the vote) and BMW M4 (18.5 percent) have put forward a persuasive case
for themselves – and just a few months after their launch both were
voted top of their class by respondents in the “sport auto Award 2014”
readers’ survey. The result underlines in resounding fashion the
stand-out status of the two new models. Like its predecessors, the
fifth-generation BMW M3 encapsulates the combination of motor sport
genes and unrestricted everyday usability within an emotionally rich
overall concept. The BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe embody a new take
on the high-performance sports car theme and uphold the commitment to
implementing the BMW M philosophy espoused by their predecessors. The
BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe (fuel consumption combined for both
models: 8.8 l/100 km [32.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined:
204 g/km)* are powered by a newly developed six-cylinder in-line
engine. The high-revving unit with M TwinPower Turbo technology offers
maximum output of 317 kW/431 hp. Peak torque of 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) is
available across a broad rev band and exceeds the maximum offered by
the previous BMW M3 by almost 40 percent. A rigorously applied
lightweight design concept has brought about a weight reduction of
around 80 kilograms, giving the BMW M4 Coupe a DIN kerb weight of
1,497 kilograms and ensuring top-class driving dynamics and excellent
efficiency. Fuel consumption and emissions, meanwhile, are down by 25
percent. The BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe need just 4.1 seconds to
sprint from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) – when fitted with the optional
seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission – and also catch the eye as
strong performers out on the track.

A good showing for M Performance Automobiles
The BMW M235i Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 8.1 l/100 km
[34.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 189 g/km)* with 240 kW/326 hp
– likewise launched this year – also impressed the readers. A 36.5
percent share of the vote and first place in the category for coupés
up to €50,000 represented a dream start for the new model series. The
BMW M135i rounded off an excellent showing by the M Performance
Automobiles with victory in the “Compact Cars” class (27.1 percent of
the votes). Like the BMW M235i, the BMW M135i (fuel consumption
combined: 8.0 l/100 km [35.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 188
g/km)* is also powered by a six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo
technology that displays instantaneous responses, an exceptional
thirst for revs and outstanding refinement.

The BMW 335i staged a repeat of its success from last year in the
class for saloons/estates up to €50,000. This year 31.7 percent of
readers voted the 335i top of the pile, allowing it to continue the
tradition established by its predecessor – which was voted the most
sporting car in its class three years in succession.

The “sport auto Award” is presented annually by German motoring
magazine “sport auto”. It is one of the leading German awards for
sporting cars and is highly coveted by manufacturers. 2014 marked the
34th year that the magazine’s readers have been called on to vote,
with 234 models nominated in 15 series-production categories and 10
tuning classes. A total of 15,551 readers took part in the poll (which
ran from 17 April to 18 July) via survey postcard, online survey or
one of the “sport auto” digital channels.

Further information on official fuel consumption figures, specific
CO2 emission values and the electric power consumption of new
passenger cars is included in the following guideline: “Leitfaden über
Kraftstoffverbrauch, die CO2 emissions und den Stromverbrauch neuer
Personenkraftwagen” (Guideline for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and
electric power consumption of new passenger cars), which can be

Munich. The annually presented GOOD DESIGNTM Award
for 2010 went to a full quartet of vehicles and concepts: the BMW 5
Series Sedan, the MINI Countryman, the BMW S 1000 RR and the BMW
Concept 6. This most prestigious of international honours yet
again recognised the exceptional standard of BMW Group Design. The
prizewinners’ products will be exhibited as part of the annual
GOOD DESIGN SHOW to be held in June 2011 at the Chicago Athenaeum.

The world’s oldest and most distinguished design award was
called into being in Chicago in 1950 by the architects Eero Saarinen,
Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann Jr., and is presented to this
day by the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture,
Art Design and Urban Studies. For six decades now, this coveted prize
is conferred on designers and manufacturers for particularly
innovative and visionary products, concepts and ideas that reach
beyond the bounds of ordinary product design. Not the least of its
aims is to raise public awareness of contemporary design and related
sustainability issues.

The selection of award winners is based on the criteria of function
and aesthetic as originally laid down by Saarinen and Eames, and is
complemented by an environmental stipulation for sustainable design,
in keeping with the times. In 2010, an independent jury of design
experts and architects made their selection from a record number of
submissions from 37 different nations, and picked out more than 500
product and graphic designs to receive the GOOD DESIGN Award.

The design of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan eloquently
translates the vehicle’s attributes into an authentic formal language.

Exuding sheer presence and stylish elegance, the Sedan’s design
expresses its premium quality and outstanding ride comfort, while its
sporty handling is reflected in the dynamic lines of its body and an
overall look suggesting athleticism. The superlative aesthetics of the
new BMW 5 Series Sedan are further embodied in its perfectly balanced
proportions and precisely finished details.

The MINI Countryman is the most expansive
interpretation of the MINI design language. As the first MINI to
feature four doors and measure more than four metres in length, the
MINI Countryman’s typical MINI design leaves no doubt as to its
kinship with the brand. Within the product family, the newcomer stands
out with its striking exterior that features faintly pentagonal
headlights, a new-style “helmet” roof and
three-dimensional, vertically aligned rear lights. The interior design
likewise accentuates the practicality and robust character of the MINI Countryman.

The highly dynamic design of the BMW S 1000 RR
displays its racing bike heritage in a frank and authentic manner. Its
flat and sportive front-end design features the hallmark asymmetrical
BMW headlight arrangement that reiterates the look of the endurance
racers (24-hour events).

The BMW Concept 6 design study persuaded the jury
with its highly contrasting composition: while the lower half of the
motorcycle reveals its mechanical underpinnings, the sensually tactile
surfaces invite some close interaction with the driver. The two levels
are fused by an organically designed air flow system.

The unique quality of BMW Group Design has been repeatedly recognised
in the past by the GOOD DESIGN Award. In 2008, for example, the award
went to the BMW 3 Series Convertible, the BMW 1 Series Coupé
and the MINI Cooper S Clubman, as well as four BMW motorcycles. 2007
saw the new BMW X5, the BMW 3 Series Coupé, the new MINI and a
further three BMW motorcycles win the GOOD DESIGN Award. And it
isn’t the first time the BMW 5 Series Sedan has been crowned:
its outstanding design won over the jury of the internationally
renowned red dot awards in 2010, secured the coveted iF Product Design
Award in 2011, and – with the 2011 Design Award of the Federal
Republic of Germany – captured the country’s most
prestigious prize for exceptional product design.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

Concept Vehicles & Design,Press Release,Sedan,Countryman,S 1000 RR,Product,MINI

München.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan has won Silver in the 2011 Design Award of
the Federal Republic of Germany, presented annually by the German
Design Council. The country’s most prestigious prize for product
design is one of several honours already bestowed by the Design
Council in recognition of the excellence of BMW Group Design. The
Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is sponsored by the
Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and will be presented at
a public ceremony in Frankfurt on 11 February 2011. The presentation
forms part of the opening event of Ambiente, the world’s biggest
trade fair for consumer goods.

Since its launch in 1969, the Design Award of the Federal Republic of
Germany has been conferred each year on outstanding international
achievements in the categories of product and communication design, as
well as on a personality from the world of design and on up-and-coming
young talent. The winners are chosen by an independent jury consisting
of ten representatives from industry, academia, design and the media,
who are appointed by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
The selection criteria for the design award are rigorous: all entries
must already have received a national or international award and must
embody trends and developments with a defining impact on future
design. A further entry criterion is the nomination by the Trade and
Industry Ministries and Senators of the federal states or by the
Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The design of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan deftly translates the
vehicle’s attributes into an authentic formal language. Sheer
presence and stylish elegance lend expression to the Sedan’s
premium quality and outstanding ride comfort. Its sporty driving
characteristics are reflected in the dynamic lines of its bodywork and
the overall impression is that of a thoroughly athletic automobile.
The superior aesthetics of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan are also
conveyed by its perfectly balanced proportions and meticulously
executed details.

The unique quality of BMW Group Design has already been recognised
several times over by the Design Award of the Federal Republic of
Germany. In 2010 this “prize of prizes” went to the
Kinetic Sculpture of the BMW Museum (Gold), in 2009 it was awarded to
the BMW HP2 Sport motorcycle (Silver), in 2008 to the BMW G650
Xcountry motorcycle (Gold), and in 2007 to the BMW Cruise Bike
(Silver). For the new BMW 5 Series Sedan this is not the first award
of the year: in 2010 its exceptional design already resoundingly
persuaded the jury of the internationally renowned red dot awards.

Press Contact: Susanne Giuliani
Tel: +49-89-382-20961
E-mail: susanne.giuliani@bmwgroup.com

Concept Vehicles & Design,Press Release,Sedan

The world debut of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan once again
marks the epitome of aesthetic design and supreme driving pleasure in
the upper midrange segment. Through its sporting and elegant looks,
driving dynamics typical of the brand, outstanding efficiency as well
as innovative comfort and safety features, the sixth generation of
BMW’s executive express convincingly reflects the supreme
standard of the world’s most successful manufacturer of premium
cars throughout the entire process of development.

Design: charismatic, elegant, sporting.
With the longest
wheelbase in the segment, a long and sleek engine compartment lid,
short overhangs front and rear and a coupé-like, graceful
roofline, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan stands out clearly from the
competition.
Overall, the aesthetic looks of the car are clearly
determined by perfectly balanced proportions. Design features typical
of the brand are to be found both at the front with its BMW kidney
grille inclined slightly forward and on the strikingly chiselled
engine compartment lid, in the stylish and elegant side view of the
car, and on the muscular rear end.
Within the interior modern
function and a superior ambience come together in perfect harmony,
unmistakable style and clear orientation to the driver in the cockpit
guaranteeing a truly unique driving and travelling experience.

Driving experience: supreme dynamics and outstanding
comfort.
The most advanced drivetrain and suspension technologies
ensure supreme sportiness and an even higher standard of motoring
comfort all in one.
At the same time optional Dynamic Driving
Control enables the driver to set the suspension individually to his
personal requirements. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is available with
Adaptive Drive encompassing Dynamic Damper Control and Dynamic Drive
stability control, as well as BMW’s Integral Active
Steering.
The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is making its debut with one
eight-cylinder and three six-cylinder petrol engines as well as two
six-cylinder diesels.
The range is rounded off by a
four-cylinder turbodiesel with an aluminium crankcase and common-rail
direct injection. Maximum output in this case of 135 kW/184 hp makes
the BMW 520d fitted as standard with Auto Start Stop the new
efficiency benchmark in its segment. Average fuel consumption in the
EU5 test cycle is just 5.0 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 56.5 mpg
imp), the CO2 emission rating is 132 g/km (provisional
figures).
The top-of-the-range BMW 550i comes with an
eight-cylinder boasting BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and High
Precision Injection for maximum output of 300 kW/407 hp.
The
straight-six with BMW TwinPower Turbo, High Precision Injection
and VALVETRONIC in the BMW 535i delivers maximum output of 225
kW/306 hp, while the two straight-six power units featuring High
Precision Injection and lean-burn operation develop 190 kW/258 hp in
the BMW 528i and, respectively, 150 kW/204 hp in the BMW
523i.
Straight-six diesels with the most advanced technology give
the BMW 530d maximum output of 180 kW/245 hp and the BMW 525d an
equally impressive 150 kW/204 hp. Fitted with optional BMW
BluePerformance technology, the BMW 530d fulfils the EU6 emission
standard. And it almost goes without saying that all versions of the
new BMW 5 Series Sedan comply in full with the EU5 standard in Europe.

BMW EfficientDynamics: BMW 5 Series increasing the
lead.
All versions of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan are available as
an option with BMW’s new eight-speed automatic transmission. The
BMW 550i comes as standard with BMW’s automatic transmission
optimised for efficiency, just
like EPS Electric Power Steering
featured on all models.
BMW EfficientDynamics technologies are
naturally featured as standard in appropriate combinations on each
model, with features such as Brake Energy Regeneration, a gearshift
point indicator, active air flap control, and on-demand operation of
ancillary units including a detachable a/c compressor. Intelligent
lightweight construction, finally, is ensured by features such as the
doors, engine compartment lid, front side panels and suspension
components made of aluminium.

Innovative driver assistance systems with BMW
ConnectedDrive.
The driver assistance systems offered for the
first time in the context of BMW ConnectedDrive include a Parking
Assistant, Surround View, collision warning with application of the
brakes in conjunction with Active Cruise Control plus Stop & Go,
and a new Speed Limit Device. Further features also available are Lane
Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info, a Head-Up
Display, BMW Night Vision with detection of individual persons, and a
back-up camera.

Joint development and production together with the BMW 7
Series.
The world debut of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan opens up
the latest chapter in a truly impressive story of success. In the
course of five model generations, overall sales of the BMW 5 Series
already amount to more than 5.5 million units. Now the new model is
based on a newly developed vehicle architecture also featured in the
BMW 7 Series luxury sedans.
Joint production of the BMW 5 Series
Sedan and the BMW 7 Series at BMW Plant Dingolfing, together with the
extensive use of shared components, ensures highly efficient
production with a supreme standard of quality following the most
demanding benchmarks in the market.

Press Contact: Bernhard Santer
Tel: +49-89-382-24360
E-mail: bernhard.santer@bmw.de

Press Kit,Sedan

BMW of North America today announced that the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2009 BMW
3 Series Sedan, X5, and X3 models the top rating of "Good" in
each of its series of crash tests, earning each vehicle the Institute's
coveted Top Safety Pick Award. Receiving the Top Safety Pick for the
2009 BMW 3 Series Sedan, X5, and X3 vehicles is one of numerous awards
BMW has earned from the IIHS over the years. In fact, as a result of
IIHS crash tests in 2000, the 2001 BMW X5 earned the unique distinction
of not only being the best SUV, but also being the safest vehicle ever
tested by IIHS up to that point. "BMW continues to be committed to
both our active and passive safety technologies, and we are pleased to
receive the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick
award for the 2009 BMW 3 Series Sedan, X5, and X3," said Jim
O'Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. The Institute
rates vehicles "Good," "Acceptable,"
"Marginal" or "Poor" based on performance in
high-speed Frontal Offset and Side Impact crash tests as well as an
evaluation of the vehicle's Rear Crash Protection/Head Restraints, which
protect against neck injuries in rear impact crashes. In order for a
vehicle to become a Top Safety Pick, it must earn "Good"
ratings in all three Institute tests. Additionally, as of 2007,
winning vehicles must also offer Electronic Stability Control (ESC) - a
standard feature on all BMW vehicles, known as Dynamic Stability
Control. The IIHS requires this feature based on Institute research
indicating that ESC significantly reduces crash risk, especially the
risk of fatal single vehicle crashes, by helping drivers maintain
control of their vehicles during emergency maneuvers. The new X5 will be available with an expanded array of
available options - one of which is a third row, seven passenger
seating option. The new X5 is now on sale in the USA. The second
premiere was the new BMW Hydrogen 7, the world's first hydrogen-drive
luxury performance automobile. The Hydrogen 7 - which has fulfilled all
of the criteria of BMW's rigorous product development process - will be
built in a limited series and will be driven by selected users in the
US and other countries in 2007. The Hydrogen 7 is based on BMW's
familiar 7 Series model and is equipped with an internal combustion
engine capable of running either on hydrogen or on gasoline. The new
BMW Hydrogen 7 With the BMW Hydrogen 7, the BMW Group is laying down a
marker for sustainable mobility. This car will play a pioneering role
in driving forward hydrogen technologies. BMW has gained an excellent
reputation for significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO2
emissions by using ultra efficient, yet very dynamic gasoline engines.
Together with clean, performance diesel engines and the technologically
advanced hybrid systems currently under development within the BMW
EfficientDynamics project, the BMW Group has a clear strategy for
sustainable mobility - with hydrogen as the ultimate goal. Hydrogen
technology dramatically reduces emissions generated by personal
transport and, in particular, minimizes the emission of CO2. Running in
the hydrogen mode, the BMW Hydrogen 7 essentially emits nothing
but water vapor. With all the comforts and amenities of a
non-hydrogen BMW 7 Series, the BMW Hydrogen 7 is powered by a
260 bhp twelve-cylinder engine that accelerates from 0-62.1 mph in
9.5 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 143 mph. The BMW
Hydrogen 7 also features a dual-mode power unit - controlled at the
touch of a button - that can switch quickly and conveniently from
hydrogen to conventional premium gasoline. The car's dual-mode drive
provides a hydrogen mode cruising range of more than 125 miles, with
another 300 miles in the gasoline mode. With this overall cruising
range of more than 400 miles, the driver of a BMW Hydrogen 7 is
able to use the vehicle without problem even when the nearest hydrogen
filling station is far away. This technology is a viable solution until
the hydrogen infrastructure is fully developed. The BMW
Hydrogen 7 emphatically proves that changing over to an alternative
form of energy doesn't mean missing out on superior driving dynamics and
comfort. The departure from fossil fuel does not in any way mean giving
up the dynamics and performance typical of a BMW. The mobility of
tomorrow and driving pleasure of today are compatible, with the drive
concept of BMW Hydrogen 7 being directly transferable to future
models. Driving a car of this caliber will be just as thrilling in the
future as it is today, but at the same time cleaner than ever before.
The new BMW X5 When it arrived nearly seven years ago, BMW's X5 could
have simply added another respected premium nameplate to the ranks of
sport-utility vehicles. Instead, it redefined the class. BMW's
description of that original X5 as a "Sports Activity
Vehicle" represented a new approach to the concept of a
traditional SUV - one that linked handling, performance and agility to
the conventional attributes of practicality, versatility and off-road
ability. The result was some 618,000 X5s were produced in BMW's
Spartanburg, South Carolina factory. For 2007, BMW expands and refines
that definition with an all-new X5, one that includes an even higher
level of achievement in each of those original concepts. In the area
of versatility, the new X5 is now available with a third row seating
option which will fold flat - along with the second row to provide a
roomier cargo area and greater flexibility of usage than its
predecessor. The luxury of the X5 has been enhanced with high quality
interior materials and design. An extended color, trim and option list
allows a customer to tailor the X5 to exactly their specifications.
Finally, in spite of the larger dimensions, increased versatility and
luxury, the performance that made the original X5 such a strong product
has been thoroughly enhanced in this new model. As in previous years,
the X5 offers a choice of 6-cylinder or V-8 performance: the X5 3.0si
and the 4.8i, both of which offer better performance and excellent
efficiency. The flagship 4.8i boasts BMW's all-aluminum Valvetronic
V-8, boosted to 4.8 liters and 350 horsepower. The 3.0si features
BMW's new 260-horsepower aluminum/magnesium inline-6. Standard
equipment on both models is a new 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic. BMW's
outstanding xDrive all-wheel-drive system continues, enhanced via a
closer link between the xDrive electronics and the X5's Dynamic
Stability Control to provide even quicker, more accurate response.
New Products for 2007 BMW also presented a number of new for 2007
products today. The 3 Series Coupe continues to raise the level of
luxury and performance from which all sport coupes are judged. In true
BMW tradition, it also establishes new standards of performance and
driving dynamics with the introduction of an exceptional engine: the
335i Coupe features a new inline six-cylinder engine with
twin-turbochargers, high precision fuel injection, and an all-aluminum
crankcase with an output of 300 horsepower. The 335i Coupe will be
joined in the U.S. by the 230 horsepower 328i Coupe. The 328i Coupe
will also will be offered with xDrive all-wheel drive for the first
time. The 3 Series sedans also benefit from the engines developed for
the coupes. For 2007, the 3 Series sedan will be offered both as a
328i and as a twin-turbo 335i. Building on its reputation as an agile,
fun to drive, attainable BMW Sports Activity Vehicle, the X3 has
received a significant freshening for the 2007 model year. It begins,
of course, with a performance upgrade. The BMW X3 3.0si - as it is now
called - is powered by the award-winning aluminum/magnesium 3.0-liter
inline six-cylinder engine, featuring VALVETRONIC technology. In the
X3 3.0si, this engine produces 260 hp at 6,600 rpm and 225 lb-ft of
torque at 2,500 rpm. This represents an increase of 35 horsepower and
11 lb-ft of torque over the model it replaces. True to its BMW
heritage, the X3 3.0si is offered with a six-speed manual as standard
equipment. A new six-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission is a no
cost option in place of the previous 5-speed. It also includes revamped
exterior styling, an increase in the level of interior refinement as
well as new luxury and performance oriented options. The BMW 7
Series is the introductory "canvas" for BMW Individual in the
USA. The BMW Individual offering will provide 7 Series customers with
a selection of distinctive paints and interior treatments allowing them
to individualize their vehicles to reflect their own tastes and
personality. BMW Individual was established in 1991 as a division of
BMW M GmbH with the goal of leading the trend towards more
individuality by concentrating on customers who were looking for
made-to-measure solutions in terms of distinction, design and function.
The available BMW Individual exterior paints are developed using special
Xirallic paints and a 5-coat process that picks up fine pigments in the
coating to create constantly changing nuances in the finish, giving
greater color intensity and dramatic two-tonal effects. The interior
is fitted with the highest quality Merino full-leather upholstery,
Alcantara headliner and unique interior trim - including Piano varnish
wood trim. Illuminated BMW Individual doorsills, distinctive 20"
BMW Individual wheels and the convenient storage net in the front
passenger foot well provide the additional premium touches to
complement the BMW Individual 7 Series.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

X5,Press Release,Events,Sedan,Efficient Dynamics,Product,BMW

This kind of power ensures a top speed of 225 km/h or 140 mph
and acceleration to 100 km/h in just 8.1 seconds. Exclusivity in
Limited Edition. Over and above a sporting suspension set-up, the
M Sports Package featured as standard on this special model
com¬prises BMW's Aerodynamics Package with modified bump¬ers
and side-sills, sports seats, an M leather steering wheel, an M
footrest, foglamps and interior trim in aluminium. Fur¬ther standard
features are 18-inch wheels running on 225/40R18 tyres at the front and
255/35R18 tyres at the rear. The radial-styling 216 rims measuring 8
and, respectively, 8.5 inches in width and proudly bearing the BMW
Motorsport logo come from BMW's FIA World Touring Car Champion¬ship
(WTCC) racing car. Apart from the mirror caps in high-gloss satin
chrome, the chrome-plated exhaust tailpipe also shows the connoisseur
that this is the very special BMW 320si. And the red zone in the rev
counter starting at 7300 rpm and ranging all the way to 8000 rpm again
proves that this 3 Series is indeed a very special car. In addition to
the six colours generally available on the 3 Se¬ries Saloon with
the M Sports Package, the 320si is also avail¬able exclusively in
Carbon Black Metallic. Fast-Revving Power Unit with Motorsport
Technology. The heart of this exclusive limited edition model is the
high-speed four-cylinder power unit displacing 2.0 litres and
de¬veloping maximum output of 127 kW/173 bhp at 7000 rpm as well as
peak torque of 200 Nm/147 lb-ft at 4250 rpm. Compared with the regular
production model, cylinder bore is up by 1.0 mm to 85 mm or 3.35",
while stroke has been re¬duced by 2.0 mm to 88 mm or 3.46".
Instead of cast-in grey-cast-iron liners, the pistons run in special
aluminium-alloy liners stacked into the engine block. Further signs of
distinction on the crankdrive are the stiffer connecting rods as well as
a reinforced bedplate structure. In creating this high-speed power
unit, BMW's engine de¬velopment specialists intentionally decided
not to use BMW's fully variable VALVETRONIC valve drive. Instead, they
opted for conventional valve management with two overhead camshafts,
rocker arms and four valves per cyl¬inder. Doing without numerous
moving components in this way, the valve drive guarantees a high
standard of stiffness and precision even at extremely high engine
speeds both in the limited edition model and in racing. Components from
BMW's Formula 1 Factory. The cylinder head is an all-new development
from the ground up, with the rough castings coming from the Formula 1
found¬ry at BMW's Landshut Plant. Both the intake and outlet ducts
as well as the combustion chambers are processed with supreme precision
and surface quality by computerised machine tools. Together with the
larger valves and the mo¬dified flange contours on the intake and
outlet side, this en¬sures optimum fuel/air mixture formation. And
the final point is that spe¬cial spark plugs masterminded by single
ignition coils initiate the combustion process. The compression ratio
raised from 10.5 to 11.0:1 also helps to boost power by17 kW/23 hp over
the "regular" model, while the engine nevertheless still runs
on 95 RON premium fuel, just like the "standard" version.
Formula 1 technology is also to be found and admired in oth¬er
engine components such as the rocker arms coated in a special process
developed specifically for BMW's Formula 1 power units.
The four-cylinder in this new special model reaches its peak output of
127 kW/173 hp at 7000 rpm, with engine speed be¬ing limited to 7300
rpm. Thanks to the intake system with va¬riable intake manifold
length (DISA) and variable camshaft ad¬justment (bi-VANOS), torque
is up to a maximum of 200 Nm or 147 lb-ft at 4250 rpm. To take the
high temperatures in motorsport into account, BMW's engine specialists
have focused in particular on the flow of coolant optimised by large
cross-sections in the cy¬linder head. The radiator in the
six-cylinder models, in turn, ensures a good balance of temperatures at
all times. The cylinder head cover made of special carbonfibre makes an
important contribution in reducing the weight of the car by
approximately 10 kg or 22 lb versus the BMW 320i. Proud¬ly
displaying its qualities at very first sight, the cylinder head cover
not only demonstrates a direct link to motor¬sport, but also lowers
the engine's centre of gravity by reducing weight at the highest point.
The engines are largely hand-built by specialists at BMW's Hams Hall
engine plant, from where they go straight to the as¬sembly process
at BMW's Production Plant in Munich. The BMW 320si is available
exclusively in Europe with both left and right-hand drive.
Sporting Agility and Superior Handling. The six-speed manual gearbox of
the BMW 320si is laid out to give the car its top speed of 225 km/h or
140 mph in sixth gear. With its unladen weight of 1350 kg or 2977 lb
(DIN), this sporting high-performance saloon accelerates to 100 km/h in
just 8.1 seconds. Acceleration from 80 - 120 km/h or 50 - 75 mph in
fourth gear, in turn, takes an equally fast and impres¬s¬ive 7.7
seconds. And last but not least, it almost goes without saying that the
BMW 320si complies with all the require¬ments of the Euro 4
emission standard, consuming just 8.9 litres/100 km in the composite EU
fuel consumption cycle (equal to 31.7 mpg Imp). Through its concept
alone, the new Edition Model enables the driver to enjoy motorsport at
its best: The fast-revving four-cylinder responds immediately to the
accelerator pedal, offering even greater agility and an even more
dynamic re¬sponse than in the BMW 320i. The engine has a powerful
and sporting sound without in any way becoming loud or obtrus¬ive,
responding dynamically to the gas pedal and immedi¬ately giving the
driver the power and performance he - or she - desires. The sporting
and ambitious driver will also appreciate the fact that the engine
develops an even stronger braking effect when taking back the throttle,
in comparison with a VALVE¬TRONIC power unit. This is because
engine load manage¬ment is controlled in this case by a
conventional throttle butterfly. In conjunction with the short final
drive (4.10) and the M sports suspension with 18-inch wheels running on
large tyres at the front and even wider tyres at the rear, the BMW
320si allows a very sporting and dynamic style of motoring without
coming uncomfortably close to the extreme limit. Thanks to its equal
and well-balanced axle load distribution, in turn, this exclusive Sports
Saloon also excels through neu¬tral behaviour and superior agility
on the road - which explains why the experienced driver at the wheel of
the BMW 320si is able to lap the legendary Northern Circuit of
Nür¬burg¬ring in less than nine minutes. To properly cope
with the even more powerful engine, the BMW 320si comes with an even
larger and more powerful brake system: Both front and rear inner-vented
16-inch disc brakes ensure optimum acceleration at all times. And this
very special car also features extra-large wheel mounts. Limited to
2,600 units, production of the BMW 320si entering the market at a price
of Euro 32,150.- will be starting in spring 2006. The car will be making
its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March of next year and BMW
dealers will be taking orders as of December 2005. The Foundation for
Motorsport. Proceeding from the Limited Edition BMW 320si, BMW
Mo¬torsport has developed a racing version with engine output of no
less than 275 hp. This motorsport version of the BMW 320si will be
raced worldwide in 2006 in the FIA World Tour¬ing Car Championship
(WTCC) and other racing series held under the Super 2000 Regulations,
which means that BMW will be continuing its long and great tradition of
customer sport also in the year 2006. Touring car racing is indeed
BMW's most successful racing discipline so far, with the Company
bringing home more wins and victories in this category than anywhere
else: Twenty-four FIA European Championships as well as the so far only
World Champion¬ship ever awarded in 1987 and the new
Cham¬pionship in 2005 - this is the impressive list of
ach¬ievements proudly boasted by the BMW brand. And in the last two
years, BMW, racing the 320i in the European Touring Car Championship,
has brought home not only the Manu¬fac¬turer's Title, but also
- in 2004 - the Driver's Championship. In 2005, finally, BMW won both
the Driver's (Andy Priaulx) as well as the Manufacturer's Title. Now
the motorsport version of the BMW 320si seeks to continue this unique
story of success.

Press Contact: Osama El-Sherif
Tel: +971-4-3129-964
E-mail: osama.el-sherif@bmwgroup.com

Press Release,Sedan
