  and, for the first time, all-electric drive - this is how the new BMW
  5 Series steps up to the plate. As the BMW i5, the new edition of the
  world's most successful business sedan takes the lead on the road to
  sustainable premium mobility in the upper mid-range vehicle segment.</p>
<p>The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series will begin in October 2023.
  The new model generation will be offered worldwide with all-electric
  drive and as well as with highly efficient petrol engine including
  48-volt mild hybrid technology. Like all previous model generations,
  the new BMW 5 Series is produced at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing,
  where the electric motors and high-voltage batteries for the BMW i5
  are also manufactured.</p>
<p>
<span>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/f63fd19a-054c-4f05-b47a-8c38dbcd0724/P90506452_highRes_the-new-bmw-i5-m60-x.jpg"/></span></span></p>
<p>
<strong>Sporty elegance and striking presence with a new design language.</strong></p>
<p>A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series’
  sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor model, the
  new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres, in width by 32
  millimetres and in height by 36 millimetres. Its wheelbase was
  lengthened by 20 millimetres too.</p>
<p>The front view of the new BMW 5 Series is characterised by a modern
  interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED
  elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and
  daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far
  forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.</p>
<p>The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series can be further enhanced
  with the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro. The
  range of paintwork already includes three BMW Individual paint
  finishes at market launch.</p>
<p>

<p>
<strong>Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative flair.</strong></p>
<p>The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced
  number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This
  is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved
  Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation.
  The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information
  Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also
  been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on
  the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The
  optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively
  backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends
  across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door
  panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.</p>
<p>

<p>
<strong>A first at BMW: Fully vegan interior.</strong></p>
<p>Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional
  comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment
  options. The new BMW 5 Series is the brand's first model to feature a
  fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces of the
  seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the steering
  wheel for the first time. The seat surfaces in the Veganza version
  with leather-like properties are also optionally available with a
  decorative perforation. Further optional equipment includes BMW
  Individual Merino leather upholstery in several bicolour variants.</p>

<p>
<strong>All-electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive as the top model.</strong></p>
<p>The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced
  fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two
  variants. <strong>The BMW i5 M60 xDrive</strong>, which combines a 601
  hp* drive with hallmark M performance and specific design features.
  Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles make up
  an electric all-wheel drive. The system torque generated is up to 820
  Nm* when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control function is activated.
  This enables the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8
  seconds. Its top speed is electrically limited to 230 km/h.</p>
<p>[* when M Launch Control or M Sport Boost function is activated]</p>

<p>
<strong>The BMW i5 eDrive40</strong> is also available. Its electric
  motor drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 340 hp
  and a maximum torque of up to 430 Nm with Sport Boost or Launch
  Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from zero to 100
  km/h in 6.0 seconds, its top speed is 193 km/h.</p>
<p>The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
  provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
  efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
  and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
  cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
  long range.</p>
<p>
<span>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/e84dde4f-f8bf-404e-98bd-808736947c4f/P90506448_highRes_the-new-bmw-i5-edriv.jpg"/></span></span></p>
<p>The respective WLTP values are 455 - 516 kilometres for the
    <strong>BMW i5 M60 xDrive</strong> and 477 - 582 kilometres for the
    <strong>BMW i5 eDrive40</strong>. With the new MAX RANGE function,
  the range can be increased by up to 25 percent if required by limiting
  power and speed and deactivating comfort functions.</p>
<p>
<strong>Unique balance between driving dynamics and travel comfort.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW 5 Series’ characteristic balance between maximum sportiness
  and high-level long-distance comfort is enhanced once again in the new
  edition. The longest wheelbase in the upper mid-range vehicle segment,
  increased track widths at the front and rear axles, an almost
  perfectly balanced 50:50 ratio axle load distribution, intelligent
  lightweight construction and increased body and chassis connection
  rigidity contribute to this.</p>
<p>The extensively advanced chassis technology, like the control
  systems, has been model-specifically adapted to the weight balance
  associated with the respective drive technology. It includes directly
  controlled wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system and sport
  steering with variable steering ratio as standard. An M sport
  suspension, an M sport brake system and the Adaptive Suspension
  Professional (standard in the BMW i5 M60 xDrive) with electronically
  controlled shock absorbers, Integral Active Steering and new <a name="_Hlk135054735"></a>vertical dynamics management are available as
  options. The optional Adaptive M Suspension Professional also includes
  Active Roll Stabilisation with Active Roll Comfort. Light alloy wheels
  in 18-inch or 19-inch sizes (BMW i5) are standard equipment.
  Light-alloy wheels up to a size of 21 inches and performance tyres are
  offered as options.</p>

<li>New automation feature is a world first: Highway Assistant now

<p>
<strong>Dubai.</strong>The series production development process for
  the first-ever BMW i5 is entering the home straight with the
  fine-tuning of its suspension control and driver assistance systems.
  Just a few weeks ahead of the car’s world premiere, it is clear the
  all-electric version of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will deliver an
  outstanding driving experience – just like all the other variants.
  Innovative Vertical Dynamics Management elevates the balance of
  sporting potency and ride comfort for which the BMW 5 Series has
  always been renowned to an even higher level. And the car’s automated
  driving capability has also been taken into a new dimension with the
  Highway Assistant, which controls the distance to the vehicle ahead,
  carries out steering adjustments and carries out lane changes for the
  first time by means of eye activation.</p>
<p>Over the course of more than a year, the BMW i5 has negotiated a
  richly varied programme of testing – from the snow-covered and icy
  surfaces of the winter test centre at Arjeplog, Sweden to regions
  offering extreme heat and dry conditions, in city driving and on
  country roads, on motorways and hand-picked test tracks. The
  fine-tuning work for all the components involved in the driving
  experience was then carried out at the BMW Group’s proving grounds
  outside Miramas in southern France. This included ensuring the
  integral heating and cooling circuit with heat pump function for the
  drive system, the high-voltage battery and the interior of the BMW i5
  can be controlled as required at all times. The predictive heat
  management capability of the high-voltage battery paves the way for
  rapid and efficient charging at DC fast-charging stations. <span>
<span style=""> </span></span></p>
<h3>
<br/>
<strong>Specially tuned suspension systems maximise comfort and agility.</strong></h3>
<p>The flexible drive system technology offered by the new BMW 5 Series
  range – which now gives customers the choice between classical
  internal combustion engines, plug-in-hybrid solutions and fully
  electric drive systems – leads to wide variations in vehicle weight.
  With this in mind, model-specific, case-by-case chassis tuning and
  corresponding application of all control systems deliver signature BMW
  driving pleasure, regardless of the drive concept involved.</p>
<p>As the range-topping model variant, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive is fitted
  as standard with Adaptive Suspension Professional including
  electronically controlled dampers. This suspension system can also be
  specified as an option for the BMW i5 eDrive40 . Thanks to an
  innovative form of BMW Vertical Dynamics Management, it offers a
  noticeable increase in sports performance combined with a level of
  ride comfort that also represents a clear step forward from that of
  its predecessor.</p>
<p>
<br/>
<span>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/f34a7e37-a8a4-4ef2-9532-75b152faf12e/P90502749_highRes_testing-the-new-bmw-.jpg"/></span></span></p>
<p>The latest version of BMW’s Vertical Dynamics Management, now in its
  ninth generation, is making its debut in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.
  This technology is based on a newly developed, extensively networked
  control logic, and factors in all the available input variables – such
  as wheel speeds, steering angle, yaw rate and acceleration – to
  establish the ideal damping forces. The system no longer calculates
  the required damping forces using mathematical models, but instead
  favours physical calculation of data on the current driving condition.
  This ensures clearly defined body control and precise suspension
  response in every driving situation. </p>
<p>Adaptive Suspension Professional is offered for all variants of the
  new BMW 5 Series Sedan (either as standard or optionally, depending on
  the model), ensuring the customary driving pleasure of BMW. The new
  generation of the business sedan therefore blends ride comfort
  approaching BMW 7 Series levels with the sporting agility familiar
  from the BMW 3 Series.</p>
<h3>
<br/>
<strong>A new experience of automated driving: Highway Assistant and
    automated lane change with eye activation.</strong></h3>
<p>The new BMW 5 Series Sedan also raises the bar in its segment with
  its extensive array of systems for automated driving and parking.
  High-resolution cameras, high-precision radar sensors and control
  units from the BMW Group’s latest technology toolkit, plus a software
  application refined over countless miles of testing, provide the
  ingredients for an automated driving experience featuring innovative
  highlights that further enhance safety and comfort.</p>
<p>In the USA and Canada, and now also in Germany, the Driving Assistant
  Professional available as an option for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan
  comprises Highway Assistant, which can be used at speeds of up to 130
  km/h. Once activated, the system takes care of distance control and
  the steering inputs required for lane control, so the driver can keep
  their hands in a comfortable position and focus fully on surveying the
  area around the vehicle and the traffic situation at hand.</p>
<p>
<br/>
<span>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/a9174482-c6bc-4d9d-a232-35ffe3633c85/P90502757_highRes_testing-the-new-bmw-.jpg"/></span></span></p>
<p>An interior camera helps monitor the driver’s level of alertness and
  also enables another innovation: in a world first, the automated lane
  change – included as part of the Driving Assistant Professional and
  Highway Assistant – in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be controlled
  using eye activation. This convenience feature results in a new level
  of interaction between human and car. Looking in the exterior mirror
  prompts the car to initiate the lane change process and carry out the
  necessary steering movements and speed adjustments at speeds of up to
  130 km/h once the driver has confirmed they want it to do so and the
  traffic situation allows. The purely visual gesture complements the
  previous use of the turn signal lever, which is also available as an alternative.</p>
<p>Production of the new, eighth-generation BMW 5 Series Sedan will
  begin in summer 2023 at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Bavaria. The
  car’s market launch will get underway in October 2023.</p>

<strong>Munich.</strong> With a ten-year plan for sustainability, the
  BMW Group is underscoring its commitment to the goals of the Paris
  climate agreement, the main focus being on the expansion of electric
  mobility. More than 500,000 electrified vehicles were sold by the end
  of 2019 and this figure will most likely rise to over 1 million by the
  end of 2021. The BMW 5 Series makes a substantial contribution towards
  achieving both past and future goals. With almost 50,000 units, BMW 5
  Series plug-in hybrid models were the most successful electrified
  models in the <br/>BMW Group’s portfolio worldwide in 2019.</p>
<h3>
<strong>Extension of the BMW 5 Series to include five plug-in hybrid models.</strong></h3>
<p>With an increase from two to five models featuring innovative plug-in
  hybrid drive by November 2020, the new BMW 5 Series offers the largest
  range of PHEVs within one BMW Group model series.</p>
<p>The latest generation of BMW eDrive technology in conjunction with a
  four-cylinder petrol engine powers the BMW 530e plug-in hybrid models.
  July 2020 saw the launch of the new
  <strong>BMW 530e Sedan </strong>and the new <strong>BMW 530e xDrive Sedan</strong>.</p>
<p>In November 2020, the new <strong>BMW 530e Touring</strong> and the
  new <strong>BMW 530e xDrive Touring</strong> will be launched.</p>
<h3>
<strong>Top of the range model: The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan.</strong></h3>
<p>The new BMW 545e xDrive Sedan features a synchronous electric motor
  delivering a maximum power output of 80 kW/109 hp, which is combined
  with an efficient straight six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW
  TwinPower Turbo Technology and 210 kW/286 hp, together generating an
  overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp. Power is distributed as
  required to all four wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and
  intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive. Maximum system torque is 600
  Nm and top speed is reached at 250 km/h, whilst a speed of 140 km/h is
  possible in purely electric operation. From a standstill, the new BMW
  545e xDrive accelerates to a speed of 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
  Thus, the BMW 545e xDrive clearly excels as the most dynamic of all
  BMW six-cylinder plug-in hybrids.</p>
<p>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/02273d6e-6127-4a51-a7e3-668dced2c890/P90395507_highRes_the-new-bmw-545e-xdr.jpg"/></span></p>
<p>Thanks to intelligently controlled interaction between both drive
  systems, the new BMW 545e xDrive combines the best of two worlds. It
  facilitates not only purely electric driving in urban traffic and
  efficient commuting between home and the workplace, but also excels
  through dynamic performance and comfortable long-distance travel. With
  a purely electric range of 49 – 57 kilometres* and an average fuel
  consumption of 2.3 – 2.2 litres/100 km, the new BMW 545e xDrive
  combines brand-typical driving dynamics and a high level of
  long-distance ride comfort with extremely efficient use of resources.</p>
<p>The latest plug-in hybrid model of the BMW 5 Series is fitted with a
  400V lithium-ion battery which is positioned under the rear seat in
  order to save space. With a luggage volume of 410 litres, the
  transport capacity of the BMW 545e xDrive is only slightly smaller
  than of those model variants which are fitted with a conventional engine.</p>
<h3>
<strong>Different driving modes for maximum efficiency in accordance
    with the relevant driving style and situation.</strong></h3>
<p>In order to make optimum use of the combination of the straight
  six-cylinder engine featuring ultra-smooth running characteristics and
  eDrive technology in all driving situations, the BMW 545e xDrive
  supports the driver in numerous ways in terms of energy management.
  Various driving modes, some of which can be individualised in their
  operation, are simply selected by pressing the corresponding button on
  the centre console.</p>
<p>The HYBRID mode is the default setting, which ensures a balanced
  set-up and an intelligent interaction between combustion engine and
  electric motor. It is also possible to select ELECTRIC mode as the
  standard setting via the iDrive menu. In HYBRID mode, the electric
  motor is predominantly used. The combustion engine only kicks in at
  higher speeds or under intensive load conditions. Since the system is
  linked to the navigation system, the interaction between combustion
  engine and electric motor can be adapted more precisely to the route
  profile, topography and other driving situations in an anticipatory
  manner. The electric range is increased by recuperation in overrun and
  braking phases. The energy supply saved in this way can then be used
  specifically for locally emission-free driving through urban areas and
  the arrival at the defined destination.</p>
<p>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/eebd01b6-c627-4954-9fdb-91949c5a7b8b/P90395499_highRes_the-new-bmw-545e-xdr.jpg"/></span></p>
<p>By pressing the HYBRID button twice, an efficiency-optimised version
  of this operating mode (HYBRID ECO PRO) is activated. <br/>The
  coasting function on the overrun, among other things, contributes to a
  further reduction in consumption. The navigation and sensor
  data-supported control system also optimises the effectiveness of
  braking energy recovery. When approaching a junction or a vehicle
  driving ahead, for example, infinitely adaptive recuperation can be
  put to particularly intensive use for the purpose of deceleration.</p>
<p>In SPORT mode, the electric motor supports the straight six-cylinder
  petrol engine when the overall system output of 290 kW/394 hp is fully
  needed. The set-up is designed for dynamic performance, and the
  gearshift program is sporty.</p>
<p>The ELECTRIC mode, on the other hand, enables locally purely
  emission-free driving up to 57 kilometres* and up to 140 km/h.</p>
<h3>
<strong>Special sounds for a special driving experience.</strong></h3>
<p>The new “ready to drive sound” produced by the BMW 545e xDrive is the
  result of the collaboration with composer Hans Zimmer and is designed
  to trigger joyful anticipation of the electric drive when the driver
  enters the vehicle and presses the Start/Stop button.</p>
<p>A distinctive sound created especially for electrified BMW models is
  used for the purpose of acoustic pedestrian protection, emitted via a
  speaker system. The sound design in the low speed range of up to 30
  km/h radiates a vibrant acoustic presence, though without impairing
  the acoustic comfort of vehicle occupants.</p>
<p>Likewise, via the vehicle audio system, “Active Sound Design”
  provides for an authentic and, in the SPORT mode of the Driving
  Experience Control Switch, for a particularly intense and pronounced sound.</p>
<h3>
<strong>Electric mobility meets digitalisation: Digital services for
    the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 5 Series.</strong></h3>
<p>The BMW Group also offers innovative digital services that actively
  contribute towards increasing the attractiveness of electric driving
  even further.  </p>
<p>The BMW eDrive Zone service facilitates the automatic switching over
  of the drive system to purely electric mode when entering an urban
  low-emission zone and similar inner-city areas. In addition, local
  emission-free driving with a BMW plug-in hybrid model is rewarded
  through the globally unique loyalty programme BMW Points.</p>
<p>Apart from filling stations, the navigation system also displays
  public charging points. When selecting a charging station, the driver
  is also provided with a forecast on its occupation status as well as
  recommendations for nearby restaurants or cafés. Moreover, BMW enables
  BMW Charging customers to reserve an enabled charging station for a
  limited period of time.</p>
<p>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/5f5063f4-eccf-46e6-b02c-e50cf72d3845/P90395522_highRes_the-new-bmw-545e-xdr.jpg"/></span></p>
<p>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/bd9a1a5a-b44a-4998-b35c-067a123e0d43/P90395523_highRes_the-new-bmw-545e-xdr.jpg"/></span></p>
<p>Furthermore, other products from BMW Charging also offer the
  possibility of comfortable charging at home and when out and about.
  These also comprise various versions of the Wallbox, including
  installation service, individual offers for the purchase of
  electricity and access to the world’s largest network of public
  charging stations comprising more than 155,000 charging points in
  Europe alone.  </p>
<p>Preconditioning of the interior by means of auxiliary heating and air
  conditioning ensures optimised comfort during any season. If the
  preconditioning system is activated during the charging process after
  defining a specific departure time, the system also guarantees the
  full electric range in drive mode. The system is controlled either
  from inside the vehicle or conveniently via the My BMW app.</p>

<strong>Munich.</strong> Concurrently with the market launch of the
  new BMW 5 Series, the <strong>BMW M5</strong> and the <strong>BMW M5
  Competition</strong>, BMW is also offering in July 2020 an extensive
  range of BMW M Performance Parts for the new models. The accessories,
  which were developed using the comprehensive know-how of the BMW M
  GmbH, set additional sporty accents in terms of design, driving
  dynamics and performance and sharpen the particularly sporty character
  of both the BMW M5 and the BMW M5 Competition high-performance sedans
  even further. All components are aligned in the best tradition to the
  specific character of each model and, in addition to the sporty look,
  also fulfil the functional requirements as regards lightweight
  construction and aerodynamics.  Most of the M Performance Parts for
  the BMW 5 Series will be available directly after the market launch of
  the new models.</p>
<h3>
<strong>High quality exterior carbon parts.</strong></h3>
<p>Numerous BMW M Performance Parts made from high-quality carbon render
  BMW’s motorsport DNA permanently visible on the BMW 5 Series even off
  the racetrack. The M Performance front attachment on both sides and
  the M Performance front splitter made from the high-grade material
  provide for a sporty look at the front.  In addition to a variant of
  the kidney grille surround in high-gloss black, the M Performance
  front grille is also available in a carbon version. Likewise, the M
  Performance exterior mirror caps, M Performance Air Breather in the
  front fenders and M Performance side sill attachments are made from
  this high-quality material. The M Performance rear spoiler Carbon and
  the M Performance rear spoiler Pro Carbon are both available for the
  sedans, with the M Performance carbon rear diffusor providing for a
  sporty looking rear end.</p>
<p>
<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/41d284e0-212f-46f4-a067-31d9ee175df9/P90388587_highRes_the-new-bmw-5-series.jpg"/></span></p>
<h3>
<strong>M Performance steering wheel and carbon parts for the interior.</strong></h3>

<span style=""><img src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/3240/1a0e96c8-07c5-4178-bd5d-95440e315ddb/P90388594_highRes_the-new-bmw-5-series.jpg"/></span></p>
<p>The M Performance steering wheel creates a particularly intense bond
  between driver and vehicle. With distinctively shaped Alcantara grip
  recesses, large thumb-rests and special lining it guarantees maximum
  grip and a direct steering feel at all times. Together with the
  Alcantara, silver-grey, hand-sewn cross-stitching and the red 12
  o’clock marking provide for a genuine motor sports atmosphere. As an
  alternative to the standard leather-covered steering wheel trim, M
  Performance carbon/leather or carbon/Alcantara steering wheel trims
  are also optionally available. The M Performance steering wheel Pro
  available exclusively for the BMW M5 and the BMW M5 Competition is
  fitted with a high-gloss polished carbon and Alcantara trim and the
  lower clasp bears the M Performance lettering. The 12 o’clock marking
  is finished in Motorsport Blue, the tricolour decorative stitching in
  the BMW M colours. The M Performance carbon shift paddles are also
  available for all other steering wheels. The carbon M Performance gear
  shift trims are exclusive to the BMW M5 and the BMW M5 Competition.</p>
<p>
<span style=""> </span></p>
<h3>
<strong>M Performance sports suspension for M5 models.</strong></h3>
<p>The outstanding driving dynamics of the BMW M5 and the BMW M5
  Competition can be enhanced even further with the M Performance sports
  suspension without a change of the damper settings. The coilover
  suspension allows the vehicle to be lowered by between 5 and 20
  millimetres, resulting in a lower centre of gravity, less roll
  tendency and higher cornering speeds. The optional M Performance
  sports brake system ensures corresponding deceleration values under
  maximum load. 20-inch M Performance forged wheels with Y-spoke design
  and 863 M Ferric Grey matt finish are also exclusively available for
  the two M5 models. These are manufactured using a sophisticated
  forging and milling process, offering a unique and patented
  three-dimensional spoke geometry, milled M Performance lettering as
  well as a coloured M Logo. Apertures in the spokes reduce air build-up
  in the wheel, so that less power is required to cut turbulence at high
  speeds. Further light alloy wheels comprising the M Performance
  20-inch forged wheels in a multi-spoke 732 M bicoloured design are
  available for 5 Series vehicles. Moreover, the range of M Performance
  Parts includes exhaust systems for diesel engines.</p>

<h3>
<strong>M Performance also outside the vehicle.</strong></h3>
<p>Thanks to special accessories, BMW 5 owners can exhibit their sporty
  style outside the car as well. The M Performance key case
  Alcantara/Carbon is also made of the high-quality materials known from
  motor racing and serves as a daily commodity and eye-catcher. The M
  Performance tyre bag in the characteristic M design is recommended for
  storing and transporting an additional set of wheels. Also, the
  custom-fit breathable and machine-washable M Performance Indoor Car
  Cover with a soft, paint-protective interior as well as imprinted
  design elements such as the BMW kidney grille and a large “M” on the
  roof are available for both M 5 models.</p>

<p>The world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is one
  of the main highlights of the Auto Shanghai 2017 show. The new
  business sedan is the successor to the current front-runner in the
  Chinese car market’s premium segment and comes with all the right
  credentials for cementing this leading status. Likewise making its
  debut public appearance is the latest special-edition version of the
  BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. And Auto Shanghai 2017 also hosts
  the Asian premieres of the BMW Concept X2, revised BMW 4 Series models
  and new services from BMW Connected created specifically for the
  Chinese market.</p>
<p>The time-honoured MINI brand is also represented at Auto Shanghai
  2017 with a world premiere. The new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman,
  a talented all-rounder with stand-out performance attributes, is
  making its first public appearance. And BMW Motorrad is kicking off
  its 2017 product offensive with the presentation of the revised
  BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR, plus an ultra-exclusive new model.</p>
<p>Auto Shanghai is one of the most important motor shows of the year
  for the global automotive industry. It has taken place every other
  year since 1985, alternating with the Auto China show in Beijing on
  the motoring calendar. The National Exhibition and Convention Center
  in the west of Shanghai opened its doors in 2015 and invites vehicle
  manufacturers, suppliers and service providers from around the world
  to display their products across an area measuring some 400,000 square
  metres. The 17th edition of the Auto Shanghai show will see more than
  1,100 exhibitors present their new models, technological innovations
  and service offerings to the public from 21 – 28 April 2017.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>World premiere: the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase.</strong></p>
<p>Taking centre stage at the BMW brand’s stand at Auto Shanghai 2017 is
  the world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase. The new
  model is being built by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. exclusively for
  the Chinese market at the Shenyang facility.</p>
<p>Its 133-millimetre-longer wheelbase imbues the business sedan’s
  exterior with elegantly stretched proportions which blend harmoniously
  into its contemporary looks. State-of-the-art powertrain and chassis
  technology underpin an exceptional balance between BMW’s hallmark
  dynamic driving ability and supreme ride comfort. The all-new BMW 5
  Series Long Wheelbase is up to 130 kilograms lighter than its
  predecessor and boasts enhanced aerodynamics.</p>
<p>Generous kneeroom, optimised soundproofing and a host of innovative
  equipment features – such as the electrically adjustable comfort
  seats, Ambient Air package and Sky Lounge Panorama glass roof –
  elevate on-board comfort in the rear to an even higher level. As well
  as the iDrive system and a further improved voice control system, the
  display and control concept also encompasses a touchscreen monitor and
  BMW gesture control.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>World premiere: the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition.</strong></p>
<p>The BMW Group is also building on its successful track record in
  sustainable mobility, where BMW i has played a significant role. The
  BMW eDrive drive system technology originally developed for the
  all-electric BMW i3 and BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car can now be
  experienced in six BMW model ranges and one MINI. Indeed, fuelled by
  the popularity of the BMW i and BMW iPerformance models, the BMW Group
  is now the most successful manufacturer of plug-in hybrid models for
  the premium segment globally.</p>
<p>The BMW i8, for example, has developed into the world’s
  highest-selling plug-in hybrid sports car. And its appeal is given
  fresh lustre at Auto Shanghai 2017 with the presentation for the first
  time of the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition. This latest special
  edition stands out with its exclusive Protonic Frozen Yellow paint
  finish, newly designed 20-inch light-alloy wheels and distinctive
  interior design cues.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Asian premiere: the BMW Concept X2</strong>.</p>
<p>The BMW Concept X2 is celebrating its Asian premiere in Shanghai. The
  new vehicle concept for the premium compact segment combines the
  robust and functionally accomplished character of a BMW X model with
  the low-slung proportions of a coupe. Among the signature X elements
  are muscular surfaces, large, almost squared-off wheel arches and
  stylistic underfloor protection. The long wheelbase, short overhangs,
  flowing roofline and slim side window graphic lend the silhouette of
  the BMW Concept X2 a svelte and dynamic appearance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Asian premiere: the new BMW 4 Series model range.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW 4 Series models will be introduced to the public in Asia
  for the first time with detailed revisions to their design and
  optimised chassis technology. LED headlights and LED rear lights now
  come as standard for the BMW 4 Series Coupe, BMW 4 Series Convertible
  and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, as does a refined premium ambience in the
  interior. If the optional Navigation system Professional is specified,
  the iDrive operating system also features a new tile-style menu layout
  with constantly updated content. And the Multifunctional Instrument
  Display can now also be ordered as an option.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW Connected with services developed specially for China.</strong></p>
<p>With mobility, communication and infotainment services tailored
  specially to BMW’s Chinese target group, BMW Connected presents a
  premium digital offering unmatched in the country. The BMW Connected
  personalised mobility assistant’s China-specific functionality
  includes customer support among its suite of services. BMW Connected
  allows smartphone users to coordinate communications with a selected
  BMW dealer and arrange service appointments. BMW Connected also
  supplies users in China with information on traffic offences. And
  customers can make use of online-based lifestyle, social media and
  entertainment services selected specially for the Chinese market and
  with bespoke functionality.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>World premiere: the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.</strong></p>
<p>The MINI brand is showing off its sporty side at Auto Shanghai 2017,
  with the world premiere of the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman
  commanding the limelight. The latest John Cooper Works machine is the
  largest and most versatile elite performance model in the British car
  maker’s portfolio. The brand’s most powerful engine, eight-speed
  Steptronic Sport transmission (fitted as standard in cars for the
  Chinese market), ALL4 all-wheel drive and sports suspension, plus the
  aerodynamically optimised body and sports-car cockpit aura come
  together into a sublime overall package to deliver standout
  performance and a race feeling that will capture the imagination.</p>
<p>The new-generation MINI sees the British manufacturer also
  strengthening its position as the leading maker of premium vehicles in
  the small car and compact segments in China. The MINI 3-door and MINI
  5-door are each available with a selection of three engines in the
  country, and MINI Convertible customers there can choose from two
  variants. In the premium compact segment, the MINI Clubman can be
  ordered with one of three engines and the MINI Countryman with a
  choice of two, plus ALL4 all-wheel drive as an option. The new
  MINI John Cooper Works Countryman joins the MINI John Cooper Works and
  MINI John Cooper Works Clubman in the ranks of top-level MINI
  performance models in China.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW Motorrad: fresh success, a model offensive and a world
    premiere for a suitably exclusive newcomer.</strong></p>
<p>BMW Motorrad recorded extremely dynamic growth in China in 2016, with
  sales up 52.7 per cent compared with the previous year. And the brand
  is continuing along its upward curve in 2017, fuelled by its ongoing
  model offensive in the premium motorcycle and maxi scooter markets. 14
  new and redesigned models are set to be introduced up to the end of
  2017. And the brand is showing various models at Auto Shanghai 2017,
  including the latest versions of the ultra-sporty BMW S 1000 RR and
  BMW S 1000 XR. But the highlight of the BMW Motorrad stand is the
  world premiere of one of the most exclusive models ever offered by BMW Motorrad.</p>

  <strong>Munich.</strong> Saturday saw the launch of the new BMW 5
  Series sedan. At the same time, BMW Welt is devoting an exclusive
  special exhibition to the world’s most success business sedan.
  Visitors have the opportunity not only to see two models up close but
  also to experience the new technical features at interactive stations.
  And film fans have the chance to view the new BMW film “The Escape”
  and see the actual car used in the film along with several props.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>“The Escape” – the new BMW film.</strong></p>
<p>In the latest release from BMW Films, “The Escape”, the new BMW 5
  Series sedan plays the leading role. Clive Owen, the Hollywood actor
  and cult driver from “The Hire” films, plays a mysterious hired driver
  and rising star Dakota Fanning plays Lily, a clone, in an
  action-packed short featuring thrilling chase sequences and
  breathtaking stunts. From now till February 25, visitors to BMW Welt
  have a unique opportunity to experience the original BMW 5 Series
  model from the film “The Escape”. Other film props and exclusive
  insights into the making of the short make this special exhibition a
  one-off experience – and not just for cineastes.</p>
<p>“The Escape” is an homage to the legendary “The Hire” series of BWM
  films on its 15th anniversary. A total of eight of those films were
  made in two series in 2001 and 2002. Each of the films featured
  Hollywood greats both in front of and behind the camera. Playing
  alongside Clive Owen as the hired driver, were stars such as Forest
  Whitaker, Mickey Rourke, Madonna, Gary Oldman and James Brown. Cult
  directors including Guy Ritchie, Ang Lee, David Fincher and Ridley
  Scott took the BMW shorts to Hollywood level, which did not go
  unnoticed at international film festivals. In addition to the Titanium
  Lion in Cannes, “The Hire” won just about every other award for the
  creative arts.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>The new BMW 5 Series exhibition.</strong></p>
<p>Sporty, elegant and stylish, the seventh generation of the BMW 5
  Series sedan had its market launch worldwide in February 2017. An
  unprecedented array of high-tech features and improved handling make
  the new BMW 5 sedan an extremely attractive package. The new BMW 5
  Series sets new standards in connectivity and driver assistance,
  offering BMW customers perfect support in their day-to-day driving.
  The dynamic nature of this new premium car is also reflected in the
  exhibition in BMW Welt.</p>
<p>Since the start of February, visitors have been able to inspect the
  latest generation of the BMW 5 Series sedan in a special display
  opposite the BMW Welt Lifestyle Shop. Multimedia elements are used to
  illustrate the innovative key features of the new BMW 5 Series for
  visitors, including new controls and displays, the digital BMW
  Connected mobility assistant, and the various diver assistance
  systems. Various touch screens provide visitors with a comprehensive
  insight into the dedication and innovation that has gone into
  developing this vehicle. One of the three walls focus on the
  multi-sensual experience. Among other things, visitors can find out
  about the Ambient Air Package. This package is an optional extra on
  the new BMW 5 Series. At the push of a button, the Ambient Air Package
  fills the interior of the car with a subtle, pleasant fragrance.
  Visitors can test two of the eight available fragrances at the
  exhibition. Ambient light creates a relaxed, cozy atmosphere in the
  interior, underlining the luxurious feel of the vehicle and serving as
  a functional light source. A backlit “5” at the exhibition
  demonstrates the variety of lighting options and the moods they create.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series.</strong></p>
<p>With around 7.9 million vehicles sold by the end of 2016, the BMW 5
  range is one of BMW’s core series. The sixth generation alone recorded
  sales of more than 2.1 million, making it the global leader in the
  premium segment of the upper mid-range. The seventh generation of the
  new BMW 5 Series has now arrived to defend this lead with an
  impressive array of innovative features. Intelligent voice control,
  gesture control and a 70 percent larger head-up display in combination
  with the networked services of BMW Connected, together with features
  such as on-street parking information and remote 3D view are just some
  of the many highlights of the new BMW 5 Series sedan.</p>
<p>The new BMW 5 Series sedan will be on show throughout 2017 in the
  special exhibition. “The Escape” set will be on display only until the
  end of February. On Monday, February 14, the first customer will drive
  away their new BMW 5 Series sedan at a BMW Welt handover.</p>

  <strong>Munich.</strong>
  <span> To coincide with the premiere of the new BMW 5 Series range,
    BMW M GmbH is bringing out a sporty BMW M Performance version of the
    world’s most successful business sedan. For the time being at least,
    the new BMW M550i xDrive will assume the status of range-topper in
    the new BMW 5 Series line-up. Boasting a mighty M Performance
    TwinPower Turbo engine, BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with
    rear-wheel bias and a bespoke M Performance chassis set-up, the new
    BMW M550i xDrive can be classed as both a four-door sports car and
    the most dynamic business sedan around.</span>
  <span>With its abundant torque reserves and high-revving
    characteristics, the V8 power unit serves up a matchless blend of
    supreme performance, wonderfully precise driving dynamics and
    uncompromised everyday usability. This all helps the new
    BMW M550i xDrive to set the pace in its segment and turn each and
    every drive into an exhilarating experience.</span></p>

      <table width="100%"><tr><td><p>* Provisional performance data.</p>
        <p>** Fuel consumption figures are provisional, based on the EU
          test cycle and may vary depending on the tyre format specified.</p></td></tr></table>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>State-of-the-art high-performance engine melds power with
    efficiency. </strong></p>
<p>
  <span>The new BMW M550i xDrive is the first BMW 5 Series
    M Performance model to be powered by a petrol engine, namely a
    specifically modified </span>M Performance TwinPower Turbo
  eight-cylinder unit with a displacement of 4.4 litres. The V8 is
  equipped with two twin-scroll turbochargers and features the
  High Precision Injection direct injection system, Valvetronic fully
  variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control. This
  all adds up to an output of 340 kW/462 hp* at 5,500 rpm* <span>(fuel
    consumption combined: 8.9 l/100 km [31.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions
    combined: 204 g/km)** </span>and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb‑ft)*
  that can be summoned from just 1,800 rpm*.</p>
<p>
  <span>The state-of-the-art, high-performance engine comes with all the
    dynamic credentials expected of a BMW M Performance Automobile,
    propelling the BMW M550i xDrive from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0
    seconds, then on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h
    (155 mph). At the same time, the new V8 engine also demonstrates the
    exceptional efficiency of the </span>M Performance TwinPower Turbo
  technology. The new BMW M550i xDrive already complies with the
  exacting EU6c emissions standard.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent
    all-wheel drive. </strong></p>
<p>
  <span>Drive transfer in the most powerful BMW 5 Series Sedan is, at
    present, handled by the standard-fit Steptronic Sport eight-speed
    transmission, which plays a significant role in the superb dynamics
    of the BMW M550i xDrive. The M Performance configuration of the
    shift modes has been tailored to the characteristics of the V8
    engine, with distinctly sporty gear changes and more instantaneous
    downshifts across the entire rev range, and serves to enrich the
    thrilling driving experience. For an even sharper sporting edge, the
    eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission can also be operated using
    the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The transmission itself
    helps to cut fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its compact
    design, low weight and optimised efficiency.</span></p>
<p>
  <span>The BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system in the BMW M550i xDrive
    splits drive power between all four wheels as the situation demands
    – intelligently and with a rear-wheel bias. BMW xDrive is thereby
    key to delivering two intrinsic elements of the trademark
    M Performance driving experience under all conditions: superlative
    driving performance and extremely precise handling. And when the
    adaptive M Sport suspension (lowered by 10 millimetres) is added to
    the equation, along with either the standard 19-inch M light-alloy
    wheels in Cerium Grey metallic matt or the optional***
    20-inch light-alloy wheels (in an exclusive design, also painted in
    the Cerium Grey metallic matt finish), the result is tremendous
    handling stability and optimum traction, come what may. </span></p>
<p>In addition, the power steering with M-specific responses in the
  SPORT and SPORT+ settings serves to highlight the crisp handling and
  precise driving properties of the sportiest representative yet of the
  new-generation BMW 5 Series. Steering commands are executed with
  pinpoint accuracy and the driver receives the sort of feedback that
  guarantees immense driving pleasure when powering along twisty
  sections of road. The performance-enhancing specification of the
  BMW M550i xDrive is completed to perfection by the</p>
<p>
  <span>M Sport brakes with brake callipers in Blue metallic and
    M badging, which combine outstanding stopping power with excellent feel.</span></p>

      <table width="100%"><tr><td><p>*** Scheduled to be available from 07/ 2017.</p></td></tr></table>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Sporty looks with exclusive M Performance equipment features.</strong></p>
<p>
  <span>The exterior of the new BMW M550i xDrive boldly expresses the
    sedan’s dynamic performance capabilities, while also underlining its
    status as the flagship model in the new BMW 5 Series range. The M
    aerodynamic package, including an M rear spoiler with Gurney flap on
    the boot lid, accentuates the sporty, dynamic lines of the new
    BMW 5 Series, at the same time as optimising the airflow around and
    over the car. The exterior mirror caps, the kidney grille surround,
    the special M Performance bars on the front air intake and the two
    Air Breathers at the sides all sport the exclusive Cerium Grey
    metallic finish, while the high-gloss Shadow Line trim around the
    windows gives added impact to the dynamic business sedan’s
    undeniably sporty appearance. An M sports exhaust system – with
    exclusive tailpipe embellishers in Black chrome on the left and
    right – is responsible for producing the unmistakable and rousing
    BMW M soundtrack. </span></p>
<p>
  <span>Illuminated door sills bearing the inscription “M550i xDrive”
    beckon passengers into the interior, where M sports seats
    upholstered in Black Dakota leather with blue contrast stitching,
    the latest version of the M sports steering wheel, M design floor
    mats and special interior trim strips and pedals made from aluminium
    combine to create the aura of sporting exclusivity that is a
    hallmark of all BMW M Performance Automobiles.</span></p>
<p>
  <strong>Driver assistance systems take the hard work out of routine tasks.</strong></p>
<p>
  <span>Just like the other models in the latest-generation BMW 5 Series
    line-up, the BMW M550i xDrive also offers an even wider choice of
    assistance systems to help the driver, if desired. These include an
    evasion aid, crossing traffic warning system and active Lane Change
    Warning, which uses steering inputs to avert an impending collision.
    The optionally available Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane
    Keeping Assistant now feature extended functionality. And
    Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which allows speed limits to be
    automatically imported into the cruise control system, likewise
    represents another step along the road to automated driving for the BMW M550i xDrive.</span></p>
<p>
  <strong>Forging an even closer link between man, machine and the
    outside world.</strong></p>
<p>
  <span>The latest generation of the BMW 5 Series enables close-knit
    connectivity between the driver, vehicle and outside world thanks to
    BMW Connected. This new system links up devices such as smartphones,
    smartwatches, computers and tablets, as well as the vehicle’s
    navigation system, via the BMW servers. This, then, is highly
    intelligent technology. Indeed, it is capable of identifying
    movement patterns as well as personal preferences, turning it into a
    de facto personal mobility manager that helps users to overcome with
    ease the increasingly complex challenges of day-to-day mobility.
    Before the journey has even started, BMW Connected automatically
    factors in Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) for route-planning
    purposes, and recommends departing earlier if a detour has to be
    made due to traffic hold-ups. And although BMW Connected uses the
    vehicle’s location as the basis for calculating the route in the
    usual way, it takes the BMW driver’s whereabouts into account too.
    The new system also merges the functions and services of the
    familiar BMW Remote app and BMW Connected app. Plus, users are able
    to access products such as ParkNow for digitised reservation and
    payment of parking spaces, not to mention the intelligent On-Street
    Parking Information feature, which identifies the areas of a town
    where drivers are most likely to find a free parking spot. And if
    the optional Remote Parking system is specified, the
    BMW 5 Series Sedan can be manoeuvred into even the tightest spaces
    from outside the vehicle with the help of the car key. Last but not
    least, once the car has been parked, BMW Connected helps to guide
    users to their final destination on foot.</span></p>
<p>
  <strong>Sportiness and everyday usability in perfect harmony.</strong></p>

    develop the BMW M Performance Automobiles for customers who are
    seeking very sporty driving characteristics yet do not wish to
    sacrifice any of their BMW’s everyday practicality,” explains Frank
    van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “The experience and expertise garnered

  continue the remarkable success recorded by its predecessors; around
  7.9 million BMW 5 Series cars were sold across its first six
  generations. “The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series points the
  way into the future, as we have defined it with our NUMBER ONE >
  NEXT strategy. We see technological leadership, emotionally rich
  products and digitalisation as essential factors in achieving success.
  With the expansion of our model portfolio in the large-vehicle
  classes, we are satisfying the wishes of many customers. I’m in no
  doubt that the new BMW 5 Series will set new benchmarks
  technologically, but also have huge emotional appeal. It remains the
  epitome of the business sedan,” says Harald Krüger, Chairman of the
  Board of Management at BMW AG.</p>
<p>
<strong>Superior driving pleasure and unsurpassed aerodynamics.</strong>
<br/> Rigorous application of the BMW EfficientLightweight
  lightweight design concept, with increased use of aluminium and
  high-strength steels, reduces the weight of the 5 Series Sedan by up
  to 100 kilograms from that of its predecessor. The newly designed
  chassis, a low centre of gravity, BMW’s hallmark even weight
  distribution and a lightweight body offering exceptional torsional
  stiffness combine a wonderfully dynamic driving experience with the
  long-distance comfort for which the BMW 5 Series is renowned. Various
  chassis options such as Integral Active Steering, which can now be
  teamed with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, add further talents to
  a dynamics-focused overall package designed to ensure the BMW 5 Series
  once again stands at the top of its class. The drag coefficient of the
  new, 4,935 millimetre-long BMW 5 Series Sedan (Cd = 0.22 at its most
  efficient) sets the benchmark in its class.</p>

<p>
<strong>The next step to automated driving.</strong></p>
<p>A wealth of assistance systems are on hand in the new BMW 5 Series to
  offer the driver unbeatable support – not only at critical moments but
  also in less demanding situations at the wheel, such as traffic jams,
  slow-moving traffic and monotonous stretches of motorway. To this end,
  it is fitted as standard with a stereo camera, which teams up with
  optional radar and ultrasound sensors to monitor the area around the
  car. New features in the BMW 5 Series alongside the evasion aid and
  Crossing traffic warning are the Lane Change Assistant and Lane
  keeping assistant with active side collision protection. The latter
  keeps an eye on the lane markings and the area around the car, and
  actively helps the driver to avoid looming collisions by applying
  corrective steering inputs.</p>
<p>The BMW 5 Series also takes another step towards automated driving
  with extended functions for the optional Active Cruise Control (ACC)
  system and Steering and lane control assistant. These include adoption
  of speed restrictions, which drivers can select as part of the Speed
  Limit Assist option. Drivers can confirm adoption of a speed
  restriction and make an adjustment of +/– 15 km/h / 9 mph in the
  system settings. From rest to 210 km/h (130 mph) the car assists the
  driver with distance-keeping, accelerating, braking and lane control.
  This increases comfort significantly – in particular at low speeds and
  in slow-moving traffic on clogged up motorway sections. The
  intelligent Auto Start Stop function now adjusts its responses to the
  route and traffic conditions and therefore offers even greater driving comfort.</p>

<p>
<strong>Intuitive usability and extensive comfort.</strong>
<br/> With even greater user-friendliness as its goal, the new BMW 5
  Series is equipped with the latest-generation iDrive system. In top
  specification, it displays navigation, telephone and entertainment
  features, plus vehicle functions, on a high-resolution 10.25-inch
  screen. The system can be operated using the iDrive Controller, by
  voice command or gestures, or by touching the display controls
  directly, as the driver wishes. The large, tile-style panels can be
  arranged as desired and show the content of the underlying menus in
  constantly updated form. The latest-generation full-colour BMW Head-Up
  Display has a projection surface that is 70 per cent larger than
  before and displays traffic signs, telephone listings, radio stations,
  music tracks, navigation instructions and warnings from the assistance systems.</p>
<p>Maximising the levels of on-board comfort are extended storage
  options, greater legroom for rear-seat passengers and comfort seats
  with massage function, not to mention innovative seat operation using
  touch sensors and four-zone climate control complete with ionisation
  and discreet air fragrancing. Special Synergy Thermoacoustic Capsule
  (SYNTAK) engine encapsulation technology, the acoustic glazing for the
  windscreen and the acoustic headliner bring about another noticeable
  reduction in noise levels inside the car. All headlight variants
  specified for the BMW 5 Series Sedan come as standard with LED
  technology. Available as an option are Adaptive LED Headlights with
  variable light distribution including adaptive roundabout lights and
  BMW Selective Beam anti-dazzle high beam with a range of up to 500 metres.</p>

<p>
<strong>Advanced link-up of man, machine and environment.</strong>
<br/> The new BMW 5 Series also offers a compelling proposition in
  terms of connectivity. Extensive BMW ConnectedDrive features are
  joined by new services which lavish business travellers with extra
  comfort and save them time. These include the new ParkNow technology
  for digital parking space reservation and payment, the On-Street
  Parking Information intelligent parking space search function and the
  optional Parking Assistant, which detects empty spots and parks the
  vehicle automatically. Plus, the Microsoft Exchange service now
  enables Microsoft Office 365 users to sync emails, calendar entries
  and contacts and edit them inside their car. Meanwhile, the optional
  Remote Parking system allows the BMW 5 Series Sedan to be manoeuvred
  into even the tightest parking spaces remotely using the car key. And
  smartphone integration has been further improved – from Apple CarPlay
  (which, in a first for a carmaker, has been incorporated fully
  wirelessly), to inductive phone charging and the WiFi hotspot for up
  to ten devices.</p>
<p>
<strong>Personalised content through BMW Connected Onboard.</strong>
<br/> BMW Connected, the personal digital mobility assistant from
  BMW, has been available in Europe since July 2016. The next
  development stage of the system, complete with additional services, is
  set to be introduced with the new BMW 5 Series. BMW Connected Onboard
  gives drivers an overview of their mobility-related information.
  Relevant content such as the upcoming navigation destinations and
  estimated arrival time recorded in their personal mobility agenda are
  transferred seamlessly into the car from their smartphone and
  displayed on the personalised screen. Remote 3D View allows drivers to
  call up three-dimensional views of the area around their car on their
  smartphone while on the move. And that means they need never lose
  sight of their car.</p>
<p>
<strong>BMW 530i and BMW 540i: the new petrol engines.</strong>
<br/> All the engines in the 5 Series Sedan line-up belong to the
  newly developed, modular BMW EfficientDynamics family of power units.
  BMW TwinPower Turbo technology imbues all the members of the family
  with outstanding performance combined with exceptional efficiency. Two
  diesel engines and two petrol variants will be available from launch,
  working in tandem with either rear-wheel drive or BMW xDrive
  intelligent all-wheel drive.</p>
<p>The new two-litre four-cylinder in-line engine in the BMW 530i
  develops peak torque of 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) and maximum output of
  185 kW/252 hp. Its fuel consumption in the combined cycle comes in at
  5.4 litres/100 km (52.3 mpg imp)*, which means CO2 emissions of
  126 g/km – down more than 11 per cent on its predecessor’s figures.
  The BMW 530i accelerates from 0 ‑ 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds on
  its way to a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).</p>
<p>The flagship engine at launch will be the 250 kW/340 hp unit under
  the bonnet of the new BMW 540i. This three-litre straight-six produces
  torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). Despite its extra output and sharper
  dynamic edge, average fuel consumption stands at only 6.5 l/100 km
  (43.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions are kept to just 150 g/km*. In xDrive
  guise, the BMW 540i powers from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 4.8 seconds.</p>
<p>
<span>
<strong>BMW 520d and BMW 530d: the new diesel engines.</strong>
<br/></span>The four-cylinder diesel engine powering the BMW 520d
  develops 140 kW/190 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). Fuel
  consumption and CO2 emissions are 4.1 l/100 km (68.9 mpg imp)* and
  108 g/km with the manual gearbox specified or 4.0 l/100 km (70.6 mpg
  imp)* and 107 g/km with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The
  sedan accelerates from 0 ‑ 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.6 seconds
  (Steptronic). Top speed is 237 km/h (147 mph).</p>
<p>* Fuel consumption figures were calculated according to the EU test
  cycle and may vary depending on the tyre format specified. Some
  figures are provisional.</p>
<p>The new BMW 530d likewise does a nice line in dynamics and
  efficiency. Producing 195 kW/265 hp and peak torque of 620 Nm (457
  lb-ft), the six-cylinder in-line unit is clearly superior to the
  equivalent model in the outgoing range. And yet the BMW 530d also
  makes do with average fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100 km (62.8 mpg imp)*
  and CO2 emissions of 118 g/km – an approximately 13 per cent
  improvement on its predecessor. The new BMW 530d races from 0 – 100
  km/h (62 mph) in just 5.7 seconds, and on to an electronically
  governed 250 km/h (155 mph).</p>
<p>
<strong>The CO2 champion, the plug-in hybrid and the eight-cylinder
    sports star.</strong>
<br/> Not long after the launch of the new 5 Series Sedan, BMW will
  be adding another three engine variants to the line-up. The
  140 kW/190 hp four-cylinder diesel engine will be presented in its
  most efficient form in the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition with
  eight-speed Steptronic. Its CO2 emissions of just 102 g/km are the
  lowest in the sedan’s class (average fuel consumption: 3.9 l/100 km
  [72.4 mpg imp]*).</p>
<p>Also to come in March 2017 is a BMW 5 Series Sedan with plug-in
  hybrid drive system, in the form of the BMW 530e iPerformance. The
  combination of the BMW eDrive electric drive concept and a
  four-cylinder petrol engine produces extremely low CO2 emissions of
  just 44 g/km (1.9 l/100 km [148.7 mpg imp])*. System output is 185
  kW/252 hp.</p>
<p>In March 2017 the BMW M550i xDrive will take over as the sporting
  highlight of the new BMW 5 Series range, for the time being at least.
  Its V8 engine – developing 340 kW/462 hp and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of
  torque – impresses not only with its remarkable performance but also
  when it comes to efficiency (fuel consumption, combined: 8.9 l/100 km
  [31.7 mpg imp], CO2 emissions 204 g/km*). The BMW M550i xDrive
  dispatches the 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 4.0 seconds.</p>
<p>* Fuel consumption figures were calculated according to the EU test
  cycle and may vary depending on the tyre format specified. Some
  figures are provisional.</p>

  boasts an excellent position in the all-wheel-drive market, a segment
  it first entered 30 years ago. Around one in three BMW cars sold
  around the world is now equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive
  all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s success in this segment has been driven
  not only by the ever-popular BMW X models but also by all-wheel-drive
  models based on the other model series, from the BMW 1 Series to the
  BMW 7 Series. Across these model series, a large choice of AWD models
  is offered in a wide range of engine versions. At the same time, BMW
  continues to refine this technology and take it in new directions. By
  offering BMW xDrive in combination with a hybrid drive and with a
  front-wheel-drive platform, the company has repeatedly demonstrated
  its proficiency in the all-wheel-drive field, proficiency that will
  secure BMW’s position at the forefront of this sector well into the
  future. Today, BMW offers more than 110 models – of either
  transmission type – with BMW xDrive in 12 different model series, as
  well as the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car and the compact BMW 225xe
  with electrified all-wheel drive.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>The focus from day one: traction and dynamics.</strong></span>
  <span>
    <br /></span>BMW’s first foray into the all-wheel-drive market came
  with the unveiling of the BMW 325i “Allrad” at the Frankfurt Motor
  Show (IAA) in 1985. From the outside, the newcomer didn’t immediately
  reveal its inner qualities, so its performance when the journalists
  took it out on the test track was even more of an eye-opener. This
  very first BMW all-wheel-drive system not only improved traction away
  from surfaced roads and in adverse weather conditions, but also made
  for more dynamic handling through corners. “The new BMW is the new
  champion when it comes to handling,” was the verdict of the testers
  from German car magazine Auto Zeitung not long after the first unveiling.</p>
<p>Today, the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system takes
  typical BMW driving dynamics to new levels. The current generation of
  this system is controlled by the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM)
  system, which ensures that xDrive always responds appropriately at the
  earliest possible moment, based on reliable sensing and monitoring of
  the current driving situation. The interventions may be performed
  either entirely by BMW xDrive, or by xDrive in combination with
  Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Performance Control (DPC).
  The resulting fast and precise control of drive power distribution
  ensures typical BMW handling characteristics even under extremely
  dynamic cornering.</p>
<p>The all-wheel-drive system is biased towards the typical BMW
  rear-wheel-drive characteristics. That is to say, on the
  all-wheel-drive models a greater share of the drive power is sent to
  the rear wheels, even under normal driving conditions. This maintains
  the typical BMW precise steering response, with virtually no torque
  steer. For crisp turn-in and high tracking stability, the
  latest-generation BMW xDrive system starts increasing the amount of
  power sent to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a corner,
  further enhancing the driving pleasure for which BMW is a byword.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>BMW all-wheel-drive technology: continuous evolution since 1985.</strong></span>
  <br />The full-time all-wheel-drive system featured on the BMW 325i
  “Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent
  between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed
  differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential
  were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the
  front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability.
  This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was
  offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and
  including the E46 series).</p>
<p>
  <strong>1991: BMW 525iX.</strong>
  <br />Three years on, BMW introduced an all-wheel-drive model in the
  BMW 5 Series too. For the first time, the power split was now
  electronically controlled. The newly developed system featured
  multi-plate clutches that allowed the default 36:64 front-to-rear
  power split to be varied seamlessly and automatically in line with
  driving conditions. Initially a hydraulically controlled multi-plate
  clutch was used at the rear axle, but this was later replaced by
  electronically controlled selective braking intervention. The system
  monitored the driving situation using wheel speed signals from the
  Anti-lock Braking System, supplemented by further information about
  brake status, engine speed and throttle valve position.</p>
<p>From the outset the all-wheel-drive system of the BMW 525iX was a
  class apart. The electronic control system delivered a very fast and
  precise response, resulting in safe, neutral handling characteristics
  even in difficult driving conditions, such as on wet roads or snow. In
  the BMW 5 Series, too, the first all-wheel-drive models were offered
  in both Sedan and touring versions.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>1999: The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) opens a new chapter.</strong></span>
  <br />In the run-up to the new millennium, a highly innovative vehicle
  concept from BMW made its sensational debut. The BMW X5, the first
  Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), impressed customers with driving
  dynamics that were unmatched among other all-terrain vehicles of the
  time. The outstanding all-wheel-drive system played a big part in
  this. A planetary gear system split the drive power in a ratio of
  38:62 per cent between the front and rear wheels, while electronic
  control systems such as DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ADB-X
  (Automatic Differential Brake) and HDC (Hill Descent Control) ensured
  the new BMW X5 was both sporty on the road and equipped to handle
  challenging conditions off the beaten track.</p>
<p>In the years following the successful launch of the SAV concept,
  there was no let-up in the fast pace of all-wheel-drive development at
  BMW. The next year, 2000, a model-specific version of the BMW X5’s
  all-wheel drive technology became available for the fourth generation
  of the BMW 3 Series.</p>
<p>
  <span>
    <strong>2003: BMW xDrive makes its debut in the BMW X3 and BMW X5.</strong></span>
  <br />Four years on from the debut of the BMW X5 in 1999, BMW kept up
  the momentum by launching the SAV concept in a further vehicle
  segment. The new BMW X3 was more compact than the BMW X5 and offered
  even more agile handling. It set new benchmarks and remained the only
  premium model in its class for years to come.</p>
<p>The newly developed BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which was
  introduced in the same year in both the BMW X3 and the BMW X5, soon
  extended BMW’s lead in the AWD segment. Based on an extremely
  fast-acting electronic multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, xDrive
  worked in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) to
  continuously adapt the drive power split to the current driving
  situation. In addition to wheel speed, for the first time the
  electronic control system also took into account Dynamic Stability
  Control data, for example about steering angle, accelerator position
  and lateral acceleration. This is what makes BMW xDrive the world’s
  first, and still only, “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system. Unlike
  conventional all-wheel-drive systems, which only react when at least
  one wheel is already spinning, xDrive is able to detect a risk of
  oversteer or understeer at the very first signs, and proactively
  corrects this by redirecting the flow of drive power.</p>
<p>In the years that followed, the BMW xDrive intelligent
  all-wheel-drive system was fitted not only on the X models but also on
  the xDrive versions of the BMW 3 and 5 Series Sedan and Touring
  models. By the time the second generation of the BMW X3 was introduced
  in 2010, more than 600,000 units of this series had already been sold
  worldwide. A little earlier, sales of the BMW X5 – which entered its
  second generation in 2006 – had topped the one million mark.</p>
<p>
  <strong>2008: SAC with Dynamic Performance Control and hybrid
  drive</strong>. <br />With the two Sports Activity Vehicles now firmly
  established in their respective segments, in 2007 BMW went on to
  present the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe. Unveiled at the
  Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the brand-new BMW X6 elevated the typical
  dynamic character of the BMW X models to a new level of intensity. For
  the first time, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system was combined
  with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which varies the drive power
  split between the rear wheels when cornering to ensure unrivalled
  agility and stability, even under sudden throttle changes or on
  overrun. In 2009, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstrated a further
  perfect pairing – between BMW xDrive and hybrid propulsion. Meanwhile,
  in the same year, BMW M GmbH added two very special models to its
  range of high-performance sports cars. With an M-tuned BMW xDrive
  system, including Dynamic Performance Control, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6
  M boasted performance that was previously unknown in the
  all-wheel-drive market.</p>
<p>2009 also saw the arrival of a new X model, the BMW X1. For many
  years to come, the BMW X1 was destined to remain the only vehicle of
  its kind in the premium compact segment. Its intelligent BMW xDrive
  all-wheel-drive system, like that of the new BMW X3 (2010), was also
  combinable with Performance Control. This system selectively brakes
  the wheel on the inside of a turn while simultaneously increasing
  engine power, resulting in quick and precise turn-in to corners and
  taking the agile handling of both models to new levels.</p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW xDrive also available for other model series.</strong>
  <br />The steady advance of the BMW X models has been accompanied by
  an increase in the number of xDrive versions offered in the other BMW
  model series too. Designed to improve cornering agility and precision,
  BMW xDrive provides an enhanced driving experience and an optimal
  combination of dynamics and comfort. So it was only a matter of time
  before this intelligent drive technology made its debut in the BMW 7
  Series as well, in 2009. In spring 2012, the first all-wheel-drive
  Coupe and Convertible models were then offered in the sporty BMW 6
  Series. BMW xDrive can also be specified on the current BMW 3 and 5
  Series and, since 2013, on the Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe
  models of the new BMW 4 Series.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Driving progress ever forward.</strong>
  <br />BMW took things forward in the premium mid-sized segment with
  the launch of the BMW X4 in 2014. The new Sports Activity Coupe offers
  a unique blend of driving enjoyment, sophisticated style and
  contemporary practicality. It comes with BMW xDrive as standard and is
  available in a wide range of engine versions. In the same year, BMW
  also presented the third generation of the BMW X5, the second
  generation of the BMW X6, and M Sport versions of both models. BMW
  xDrive also made its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This
  was a debut with a difference, being the first time BMW had combined
  its intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an all-new
  front-wheel-drive format.</p>
<p>With the BMW i8, unveiled in 2014, the BMW Group took a bold new step
  in new directions – which also extended to the all-wheel-drive system.
  This 2+2-seater sports model is powered by a highly advanced plug-in
  hybrid drive system that pairs an internal combustion engine driving
  the rear wheels with a high-performance electric motor driving the
  front wheels.</p>
<p>
  <strong>Focused on the future: BMW xDrive meets BMW eDrive.</strong>
  <br />BMW’s latest all-wheel-drive models bring technology advances
  that are firmly focused on the future of mobility. The BMW i8 was
  followed by the international launch of the first production plug-in
  hybrid model from the BMW core brand: the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Thanks to
  full-time BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive and eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics
  technology, this Sports Activity Vehicle mates thrilling and
  effortless sporty performance with outstanding efficiency. Intelligent
  hybrid power management synchronises the operation of the internal
  combustion engine and the electric motor to maximise efficiency at all
  times, while also responding perfectly to the driver’s demands. The
  drive from the two power units is transferred to the road via the
  full-time BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.</p>
<p>
  <strong>BMW 7 Series: Integral Active Steering combinable with BMW xDrive.</strong>
  <br />In September 2015, the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series
  makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This high-end
  BMW luxury model pioneers groundbreaking innovations on all fronts,
  and will be available with BMW xDrive from its market launch in
  October. The new luxury sedan will also be the first model to allow
  intelligent all-wheel-drive to be combined with Integral Active
  Steering – that is to say with passively steering rear wheels.</p>

  “Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent
  between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed
  differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential
  were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the
  front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability.
  This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was
  offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and
  including the E46 series).</p>
<p>
<p>
  <span>
<p>
  <span>
<p>
<p>
<p>
<p>
<p>
