Ανακοινώθηκαν τα ζευγάρια οδηγών της BMW Motorsport για το 2016 DTM – Εσωτερικές μεταγραφές για τους Farfus, Glock και Martin.

Μόναχο. Η BMW Motorsport συμμετέχει στη φετινή σεζόν του DTM με την ίδια, δοκιμασμένη ομάδα οδηγών και κάποιες εσωτερικές μεταγραφές στις τέσσερις ομάδες. Κατά την Ανασκόπηση της Σεζόν του 2015, ο Διευθυντής της BMW Motorsport, Jens Marquardt, ανακοίνωσε ότι οι περσινοί οκτώ οδηγοί θα τρέξουν και φέτος με τη BMW M4 DTM και συγκεκριμένα οι Bruno Spengler (CA), Marco Wittmann (DE), António Félix da Costa (PT), Timo Glock (DE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Tom Blomqvist (GB), Maxime Martin (BE) και Martin Tomczyk (DE).

Επίσης έχει επιβεβαιωθεί η σύνθεση κάθε ομάδας στο DTM. Μόνο στη BMW Team Schnitzer το δίδυμο Félix da Costa και Tomczyk παραμένει ως έχει, ενώ αλλαγές έχουν γίνει στις υπόλοιπες τρεις ομάδες. Ο Glock μετακινείται από τη BMW Team MTEK στη BMW Team RMG, δίπλα στο Wittmann. Οι δύο οδηγοί έχουν προϊστορία σαν team-mates το 2013 στη BMW Team MTEK. Ο Farfus παίρνει τη θέση του Glock στη BMW Team MTEK πλαισιώνοντας τον Spengler. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι ο Βραζιλιάνος αφήνει τη BMW Team RBM μετά από πολλά επιτυχημένα χρόνια συνεργασίας. Ο Martin παίρνει μεταγραφή στην ομάδα που διευθύνει ο Βέλγος Bart Mampaeyt, σαν νέος team-mate του Blomqvist.

«Έχουμε μία πολύ ισχυρή και σταθερή ομάδα οδηγών που επέδειξε έξοχο ομαδικό πνεύμα στη μάχη για το πρωτάθλημα των Κατασκευαστών την περσινή σεζόν», δήλωσε ο Marquardt. «Επομένως, δεν χρειαζόταν να ‘πειράξουμε’ μία δοκιμασμένη συνταγή σε ό,τι αφορά τα πρόσωπα των οδηγών. Ωστόσο φιλοσοφία μας είναι να δημιουργούμε νέα ερεθίσματα, αλλάζοντας συστηματικά τα ζευγάρια οδηγών στις τέσσερις ομάδες μας στο DTM ώστε να πετυχαίνουμε τη μέγιστη δυνατή απόδοση του συνολικού πακέτου, κάτι που έχει αποδειχθεί ιδιαίτερα αποτελεσματικό στην πράξη. Γι’ αυτό και είμαστε πεπεισμένοι ότι οι επιτυχίες θα συνεχιστούν με τις αλλαγές για την ερχόμενη σεζόν. Οι Augusto Farfus, Timo Glock και Maxime Martin έχουν αποδείξει την κορυφαία κλάση τους στο DTM και διαθέτουν τη στόφα του νικητή. Τώρα αντιμετωπίζουν νέες προκλήσεις μέσα από τις οποίες ευελπιστούμε να κάνουν ένα ακόμα βήμα προόδου».

Είναι η πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα των Farfus, Glock και Martin στο DTM που το τρίο αλλάζει ομάδες. Ο Farfus ήταν οδηγός για τέσσερα χρόνια στη BMW Team RBM, με την οποία είχε παλιότερα σημειώσει επιτυχίες στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα Αυτοκινήτων Τουρισμού της FIA (WTCC). Ο Farfus κέρδισε σε τρεις αγώνες DTM το 2013, τελειώνοντας τη χρονιά 2ος στο Πρωτάθλημα Οδηγών. Ο Glock προσχώρησε στο DTM και από τότε αποτελεί μόνιμο μέλος της BMW Team MTEK. Κέρδισε από έναν αγώνα με την ομάδα του Ernest Knoors (NL) το 2013 και 2015.

Ο Glock συμμετείχε στην ίδια ομάδα με τον Wittmann την πρώτη του χρονιά και για φέτος θα ενώσει τις δυνάμεις του ξανά με τον πρωταθλητή του 2014 στη BMW Team RMG. Ο Martin κέρδισε από έναν αγώνα τις δύο χρονιές που έτρεξε στο DTM με την ομάδα του Stefan Reinhold με τον οποίο κατέκτησαν τον τίτλο των Κατασκευαστών το 2014. Ο Βέλγος θα πλαισιώσει τώρα τους συμπατριώτες του στη BMW Team RBM.

Whether in the DTM, the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC), or countless other championships: week after week BMW teams and drivers around the world do battle for points, victories and titles. Away from the track too, members of the large BMW Motorsport family around the world are also creating headlines. The “BMW Motorsport News” allows us to regularly summarise all the action for you in a compact and informative manner. This way, you are always up to speed.

Andy Priaulx leaves BMW Motorsport after 13 years.

His last big appearance, for now, in the BMW family was a very emotional one: Andy Priaulx (GB) was presented with an honorary award at last week’s Season Review in the BMW Museum, and took the opportunity to bid farewell to many of those who have accompanied him over the past 13 years. Priaulx has left in search of a new challenge next year. He will announce details of precisely what this is in January. However, he is already certain of a place in the BMW Motorsport history books. Between 2005 and 2007, Priaulx won three titles in a row with BMW Team RBM in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). In 2005, he was also victorious at the Nürburgring 24 Hours (DE) in a BMW M3 GTR. In total, he amassed more than 50 victories in BMW cars and played a key role in the manufacturer’s return to the DTM in 2012. Speaking in an interview, he looks back on his successful time with BMW.

Three questions for ... Andy Priaulx.

Andy, how emotional was it, saying farewell to the BMW family after 13 years?
Andy Priaulx: “Very. On that evening it was very tough emotionally to be confronted with all the fantastic memories I have of my time with BMW Motorsport. At the same time, it was also very nice. Thanks to BMW, my dream has come true for the last 13 years. Although I am now heading off in search of a new challenge, I will never forget what I have achieved with BMW Motorsport. That evening, I said 'Auf Wiedersehen' to what has been my family for the past 13 years.”

What are your fondest memories?
Priaulx: “I have had the privilege of driving some of the best racing cars in the world, and have achieved fantastic success with them. I will obviously always have particularly fond memories of my three world titles in the WTCC and victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. I had a great time here.”

Is there anyone in particular that you would like to thank?
Priaulx: “Firstly, I would obviously like to thank BMW Motorsport for making it possible for me to live my dream. Beyond that, I cannot thank all the teams I have driven for enough. Not only were they all extremely professional, but it was also great fun to work with them every single time. At this point, I could list a lot of names of people who have helped me over the years, but I am sure I would still forget many. Because of this, I would just like to give a special mention to the Belgian BMW Team RBM, with whom I raced for a decade. Although we are going out separate ways in 2016, we will always remain friends. I wish BMW Motorsport all the best for the future.”

Australian GT: The BMW M6 GT3 is set to do battle down under.
A new field of battle for the BMW M6 GT3: as of the 2016 season, the top GT racing model will also fight for points and podiums down under. The 585-hp racing car competes in the prestigious Australian GT Championship. The BMW M6 GT3 will be run by SRM Team BMW, which is owned by four-time and reigning Bathurst 1000 winner Steven Richards (NZ). The first model of the new BMW M6 GT3 is expected to arrive in Australia in February. The new figurehead of BMW Motorsport’s commitment to GT racing will make its race debut at the second round of the Australian GT Sprint Series, which forms part of the support programme for the Formula One Grand Prix in Albert Park, Melbourne (AU). The plan is for the BMW M6 GT3 to appear in all four events within the Australian GT Endurance Series. The first of these is on Phillip Island (AU) on 29th May. This is followed by the events at Sydney Motorsport Park (AU) from 26th to 28th August, Hampton Downs Motorsport Park (NZ) from 28th to 30th October, and Highlands Motorsport Park (NZ) on 13th November.

Η BMW Motorsport ανακοίνωσε λεπτομέρειες του αγωνιστικού της προγράμματος για το 2016 - συνεχίζει με τους ίδιους οδηγούς και τις ίδιες ομάδες στο DTM.

Μόναχο. Με την ευκαιρία της ανασκόπησης της σεζόν στο BMW Museum στο Μόναχο, η BMW Motorsport παρουσίασε το αγωνιστικό της πρόγραμμα για το 2016. Παράλληλα με τη συμμετοχή της στο DTM, ένα ακόμα σημαντικό κεφάλαιο της επόμενης χρονιάς είναι το ντεμπούτο των BMW M6 GT3 και BMW M6 GTLM. Το νέο όπλο της BMW θα πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσει τη σκληρή αγωνιστική σκηνή των GT, καθώς και τις ομάδες και τους κατασκευαστές στη Β. Αμερική στα πλαίσια του IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC). Η BMW M6 GT3 θα δώσει το αγωνιστικό παρών σε Ασία και Αυστραλία.

Ενώ οι ομάδες της BMW Sports Trophy σε όλο τον κόσμο για μία ακόμα φορά θα δίνουν μάχες για νίκες, τίτλους και βαθμούς σε πρωταθλήματα Οδηγών και Ομάδων, το αναδιαρθρωμένο πρόγραμμα BMW Motorsport Junior μπαίνει στην τρίτη χρονιά του. Ο Πρεσβευτής Μάρκας BMW Alessandro Zanardi (IT) έχει ένα μεγαλεπήβολο στόχο για το 2016: τους Παραολυμπιακούς Αγώνες στο Rio de Janeiro (BR).

«Σίγουρα έχουμε μπροστά μας μία συναρπαστική αγωνιστική σεζόν για το 2016», δήλωσε ο Διευθυντής της BMW Motorsport, Jens Marquardt. «Το ένα είναι ότι η BMW γίνεται 100 ετών και εμφανώς αυτό μας δίνει έξτρα κίνητρο για να προσφέρουμε όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερες επιτυχίες που θα σηματοδοτήσουν την επέτειό της. Λεπτομερής παρουσίαση του προγράμματος BMW Motorsport για το 2016.

DTM: “Never change a winning team.”
Το 2015, η BMW ανέκαμψε από ένα δύσκολο ξεκίνημα της σεζόν και κέρδισε τον τίτλο των κατασκευαστών στο DTM, χάρη στο εξαιρετικό ομαδικό πνεύμα και τις βελτιωμένες επιδόσεις κατά τη διάρκεια της χρονιάς. Και οι τέσσερις ομάδες της BMW DTM και πέντε διαφορετικοί οδηγοί σημείωσαν αγωνιστικές νίκες. Σαν αποτέλεσμα, η BMW Motorsport πέτυχε το στόχο που είχε θέσει πριν από τη σεζόν: να βελτιωθεί σε όλα τα επίπεδα με τη BMW M4 DTM σε σχέση με το 2014. Για τη συνέχιση της επιτυχημένης καριέρας της στο DTM, όπου η BMW έχει κερδίσει επτά από 12 διαθέσιμους τίτλους από το 2012, η BMW Motorsport εμπιστεύεται τις ίδιες τέσσερις ομάδες και τους οκτώ οδηγούς από το 2015. Marco Wittmann (DE), Maxime Martin (BE), Bruno Spengler (CA), Timo Glock (DE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Tom Blomqvist (GB), António Félix da Costa (PT) και Martin Tomczyk (DE) θα βρίσκονται πίσω από το τιμόνι το 2016. Με τις οκτώ BMW M4 DTMs θα τρέξουν οι ομάδες RMG, MTEK, RBM και Schnitzer.

WTSCC : Δοκιμασμένες ομάδες και οδηγοί για το ντεμπούτο του νέου αυτοκινήτου.
Δύο εκδόσεις της BMW M6 θα κάνουν το αγωνιστικό τους ντεμπούτο στο IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC): στην κατηγορία GTLM, η BMW M6 GTLM θα δώσει το παρών μέσω της BMW Team RLL, που συμμετέχει στην όγδοη σεζόν της με τη BMW Motorsport. Οι στάνταρ οδηγοί παραμένουν ίδιοι από το 2015. Οι Bill Auberlen (US), Dirk Werner (DE), John Edwards (US) και Lucas Luhr (DE) συνθέτουν ένα εντυπωσιακό κουαρτέτο. Αυτοί θα πλαισιωθούν από τους οδηγούς της BMW στο DTM Farfus και Spengler, καθώς και τον Graham Rahal (US), στο Daytona 24 Hours. Νέος στην ομάδα είναι ο Kuno Wittmer (CA), ο οποίος κέρδισε τον τίτλο των Οδηγών στην κατηγορία GTLM το 2014 και θα τρέξει φέτος σε Daytona (US), Sebring (US) και Road Atlanta (US). Η Turner Motorsport θα κατεβάσει δύο BMW M6 GT3 στην κατηγορία GTD. Ο εργοστασιακός οδηγός της BMW Jens Klingmann (DE) θα αγωνιστεί ολόκληρη τη σεζόν με την ομάδα Will Turner’s (US). Η ομάδα οδηγών της Turner Motorsport θα ενισχυθεί στους αγώνες αντοχής με τον Jesse Krohn (FI) της BMW Motorsport. Η ομάδα οδηγών για τη Daytona θα περιλαμβάνει επίσης τους οδηγούς της BMW στο DTM Wittmann και Martin.

24ωροι αγώνες: Νέα ομάδα και έμπειροι οδηγοί.
Το 2016, οι 24ωροι αγώνες στο Nürburgring (DE) και το Spa-Francorchamps (BE) για μία φορά ακόμα θεωρούνται τα highlights της Ευρωπαϊκής σεζόν των αγώνων αντοχής. Η δεύτερη θέση στο Nordschleife και η νίκη στο Spa με τη BMW Z4 GT3 το 2015 έχουν αυξήσει την ανυπομονησία εν όψει του ντεμπούτου της BMW M6 GT3 σε αυτούς τους δύο κλασικούς αγώνες μεγάλων αποστάσεων. Όπως τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, η BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert θα αγωνιστεί στο Nürburgring με εργοστασιακή υποστήριξη της BMW Motorsport. Η ROWE Racing προσχωρεί στην οικογένεια BMW σαν μία νέα ομάδα εργοστασιακής υποστήριξης και στους δύο αγώνες αντοχής. Η ομάδα από το St. Ingbert (DE) έχει πλούσια εμπειρία από αγώνες GT και αντοχής, και έχει υψηλές φιλοδοξίες για τη BMW από τον πρώτο κιόλας αγώνα του 2016 με τη BMW M6 GT3. Η ROWE Racing θα τρέξει στους 24-ωρους αγώνες του Nürburgring και του Spa-Francorchamps, καθώς και σε όλη τη σεζόν του Blancpain GT Series. Όπως συνηθίζεται, η BMW Motorsport θα φέρει πολλούς από τους κορυφαίους οδηγούς της στους 24ωρους αγώνες, Αυτοί που θα ενισχύουν τις εργοστασιακές ομάδες το 2016 είναι οι οδηγοί του DTM Martin Tomczyk, Augusto Farfus, Marco Wittmann και Maxime Martin, του WTSCC Dirk Werner και Lucas Luhr, καθώς και οι Jörg Müller (DE), Jens Klingmann, Alexander Sims (GB), Richard Westbrook (GB), Nick Catsburg (NL) και ο νέος στην οικογένεια Philipp Eng (AT).

BMW Customer Racing : αγωνιστική δράση σε όλο τον κόσμο με αυτοκίνητα BMW .
Η νέα BMW M6 GT3 δεν θα τρέξει μόνο στους 24ωρους αγώνες αλλά και σε πολυάριθμα πρωταθλήματα GT σε όλο τον κόσμο. Μεταξύ αυτών είναι τα ADAC GT Masters, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, VLN Endurance Championship, Blancpain GT Series, Asian Le Mans Series, International GT Open, Australian GT και Japanese Super GT Championship. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι το αυτοκίνητο θα έχει παρουσία σε τέσσερις ηπείρους το 2016, με τις υπάρχουσες ομάδες πελάτων της BMW Z4 GT3 και νέες ομάδες πελατών. Η BMW M235i Racing ξεκινά την τρίτη σεζόν της με ένα ολοκληρωμένο πακέτο αναβάθμισης. Οι συμμετέχοντες στο BMW M235i Racing Cup θα επωφεληθούν από την πιο ομαλή συμπεριφορά στον πίσω άξονα το 2016, χάρη σε μία πίσω πτέρυγα και τη σφαιρική ανάρτηση. Άλλες αναβαθμίσεις, όπως το σύστημα πέδησης, θα μειώσουν τα λειτουργικά κόστη. Επομένως, η κατηγορία BMW M235i Racing Cup διατηρεί την εξέχουσα θέση της στο πρόγραμμα BMW Sports Trophy στο μέλλον.

Πρόγραμμα BMW Motorsport Junior : με το βλέμμα στο μέλλον.
Η νέα φιλοσοφία του προγράμματος BMW Motorsport Junior έχει αποδειχθεί μεγάλη επιτυχία τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια, αναδεικνύοντας δύο πολλά υποσχόμενους νικητές, τους Jesse Krohn (FI) και Louis Delétraz (CH), τους οποίους η BMW Motorsport θα συνεχίσει να υποστηρίζει στα επόμενα βήματα της καριέρας τους. Το 2016, μία νέα κατηγορία ταλαντούχων νεαρών οδηγών θα έχει την ευκαιρία να λάβει ολοκληρωμένη εκπαίδευση, αφενός για αγωνιστικά αυτοκίνητα, αφετέρου για καλή φυσική και πνευματική κατάσταση και εκπαίδευση σε προσομοιωτή.

Alessandro Zanardi : Πλήρως αφοσιωμένος στους Παραολυμπιακούς.
Ο Πρεσβευτής της BMW, Alessandro Zanardi (IT) θα εστιάσει αποκλειστικά τις προσπάθειές του στην υπεράσπιση των χρυσών μεταλλίων του στους Παραολυμπιακούς αγώνες του 2016 στο Rio de Janeiro. Είναι αποφασισμένος να επαναλάβει την επιτυχία που σημείωσε με το χειρήλατο ποδήλατό του στο Λονδίνο το 2012. Λόγω του φόρτου προπονήσεων τους προσεχείς μήνες, ο Zanardi δεν θα συμμετάσχει σε συγκεκριμένα αγωνιστικά projects.

BMW Sports Trophy Award Ceremony: Adrenalin Motorsport triumphant.

Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport were the big winners at the BMW Sports Trophy Award Ceremony, which took place last Friday in the BMW Museum in Munich (DE). Team principal Matthias Unger’s (DE) outfit defended the title it won last year in the Team Competition. VLN and RCN driver Christian Büllesbach (DE) also claimed a surprise first place in the Driver Competition. Speaking in an interview, he discusses this success and his season.

Three questions for ... Christian Büllesbach.

Mr Büllesbach, how surprised are you to receive this honour as the icing on the cake at the end of your successful season?

Christian Büllesbach: “Very, as I never expected to finish first among these outstanding BMW drivers. I had a great year and had hoped for a top ten result, but I never even dreamed of winning the competition.

”

What were the highlights of your season at the Nürburgring?

Büllesbach: “One major highlight was obviously defending my title in the Rundstrecken Challenge Nürburgring, the RCN. However, my team and I also followed on from last year’s success at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. We managed to win the class for the third time in a row. That was a fantastic effort.”

What do you like about BMW cars?

Büllesbach: “On the one hand, BMW offers a car concept that is superbly suited to motorsport. Although the car is no longer the latest model, it is still very quick and also very reliable. You almost always make it to the finish, which is a key factor in any success at a tough circuit like the Nürburgring. Then there is the issue of the budget. I predominantly finance my own outings, which means I have a keen interest in keeping things affordable. BMWs are perfect for that, as they offer a privateer like myself the opportunity to pursue my passion – motorsport – at relatively affordable costs. I am very grateful for that.”

WTSCC: Turner Motorsport takes delivery of the BMW M6 GT3.

In the run-up to the BMW Season Review in the BMW Museum, Will Turner (US) had another very special appointment at BMW Motorsport in Munich. The team principle of Turner Motorsport received the two BMW M6 GT3s, with which he will line up in 2016 in the GTD class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC) in North America. One of his regular drivers will be BMW works driver Jens Klingmann (DE), who gained valuable experience with the new car during testing. “The moment I entered the foyer at BMW Motorsport and saw the two cars standing there with their covers on, it was like receiving a present at Christmas,” said Turner. “I was excited – and the first season with the BMW M6 GT3 will certainly be exciting. Compared to the BMW Z4 GT3, it is a car with a completely different concept. I will also have a few new BMW drivers in the team. As such, a lot will be new, so it is hard to predict how quickly we will be up among the front-runners. However, I am impressed by the support offered by BMW Motorsport. Everyone is doing their best to make the project a success as quickly as possible.”

Στο DTM Young Driver Test που πραγματοποιήθηκε αυτή την εβδομάδα στη Jerez de la Frontera (ES), η BMW Motorsport προσέφερε σε τέσσερις νεαρούς οδηγούς την ευκαιρία να αποκτήσουν μία πρώτη εμπειρία με τη BMW M4 DTM. Η τριήμερη δοκιμή πραγματοποιήθηκε από την Τρίτη μέχρι την Πέμπτη. Κατά τη διάρκεια της δοκιμής οι δύο νεαροί οδηγοί της BMW Motorsport Jesse Krohn (FI) και Louis Delétraz (CH), όπως και ο εργοστασιακός οδηγός της BMW Alexander Sims (GB) και ο ταλαντούχος Βρετανός George Russell, ανέλαβαν δράση στο τιμόνι της BMW M Performance Parts BMW M4 DTM.

Ο Krohn κατέκτησε τον τίτλο του “BMW Motorsport Junior of the Year” το 2014. Αυτή η δοκιμή ήταν μία συναρπαστική εμπειρία για μένα και το τέλειο τελείωμα της καλύτερης αγωνιστικής σεζόν μέχρι τώρα».

Louis Delétraz:
«Ήταν πραγματικά τρομερή η οδήγηση της BMW M4 DTM. Αληθινά το απόλαυσα. Έχει απίστευτη αεροδυναμική πίεση, άφθονη ισχύ και το φρενάρισμα είναι εντυπωσιακό. Για να είμαι ειλικρινής, ξεπέρασε τις προσδοκίες μου. Εξεπλάγην από το πόσο γρήγορα έμπαινε στις στροφές - ήταν απίστευτο. Είμαι πραγματικά ευτυχής που η BMW Motorsport μου προσέφερε αυτή την ευκαιρία. Ήταν θαυμάσιο τελείωμα της σεζόν».

Alexander Sims:
«Ήταν απλά τρομερό. Έχω ακούσει πολλά καλά για τη BMW M4 DTM και ήταν φανταστικό που την έζησα από πρώτο χέρι. Το αυτοκίνητο έχει άφθονη αεροδυναμική πίεση. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι όταν φρενάρεις και μπαίνεις σε μία στροφή, πρέπει να είσαι πολύ ακριβής με την πίεση πέδησης και με τις εντολές στο τιμόνι. Διαφέρει από ένα μοντέλο GT και χρειάστηκε κάποιος χρόνος για να προσαρμοστώ, αλλά στο τέλος όλα πήγαν καλά. Επίσης, η ισχύς του αυτοκινήτου με άφησε έκπληκτο – όπως και το φρενάρισμα. Με carbon φρένα επιβραδύνει πολύ γρήγορα και εντυπωσιακά. Συνολικά, είχα την αίσθηση μιας φανταστικής δοκιμής».

George Russell:
«Ήταν η πρώτη φορά που οδηγούσα αυτοκίνητο με τέτοια ταχύτητα και ήταν εξαιρετική εμπειρία. Η δοκιμή πήγε πραγματικά καλά και ευχαριστήθηκε την οδήγηση της BMW M4 DTM. Ήταν η πρώτη φορά που βίωνα ένα ‘συμβατικό αυτοκίνητο’ με τέτοια πρόσφυση. Ήταν απλά απίστευτο και η αίσθηση ότι είσαι στο όριο, απερίγραπτη. Το απόλαυσα πλήρως. Ιδιαίτερα μου άρεσε η αεροδυναμική πίεση – ήταν θαυμάσια αίσθηση να οδηγείς ένα τόσο μεγάλο αυτοκίνητο, με τέτοιο βάρος και τέτοια πρόσφυση. Υπάρχουν πολλές ομοιότητες ανάμεσα σε μία Formula 3 και ένα αυτοκίνητο DTM. Και τα δύο έχουν άφθονη αεροδυναμική πίεση και εντυπωσιακή ιπποδύναμη, επομένως για μένα, σαν οδηγό της Formula 3, δεν χρειάστηκαν πολλά για να προσαρμοστώ. Συνολικά, ήταν μία εκπληκτική εμπειρία η δοκιμή της BMW M4 DTM».

An interview with BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

Hockenheim (DE), 23rd October 2015. The 2015 DTM season is over – and BMW picked up enough points at the grand finale in Hockenheim (DE) to clinch the hotly contested manufacturers' title. With five wins, 19 podium positions and seven pole positions, the eight BMW DTM drivers were the source of numerous highlights throughout the season.

In an interview with BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, he talks about the season's 18 races, what the manufacturers' title means to BMW, and what he feels were the outstanding moments of the season.

Mr. Marquardt, BMW is the most successful manufacturer of the 2015 DTM season. How proud of your team are you?

Jens Marquardt: “Naturally I am very proud of each and every one of them – whether at BMW Motorsport or in our four teams. The manufacturers' title is very important to us. Despite difficult conditions, once again we asserted ourselves over our direct rivals in the premium sector and showed that fighting spirit is rewarded in motorsport. At the start of the season it seemed unlikely that we would have a successful year in the DTM for various reasons. But we were able to improve and make up ground on our rivals. It was a great performance.”

What was the key to success?

Marquardt: “It was definitely our unity and our efficiency. When we were given the opportunity to get top results at a race weekend, we kept our cool and took our chances – and it wasn't just one or two drivers, it was the whole team. Otherwise it wouldn't have been possible to celebrate an historic success such as the top-seven shut-out in Zandvoort. And that was precisely our goal going into the season: Our overall package should enable as many drivers as possible to fight for wins. It worked perfectly – and brought us the manufacturers' title.”

Five different winners in the BMW M4 DTM; that's a first since the DTM comeback in 2012...

Marquardt: “That's right. And it demonstrates the high level at which our drivers were at this season, and just how balanced they were. Marco Wittmann, Timo Glock, António Félix da Costa, Maxime Martin and our rookie Tom Blomqvist: They all thoroughly deserved their wins with flawless performances. Bruno Spengler and Augusto Farfus picked up numerous podium positions. Martin Tomczyk was unlucky on more than one occasion, but once again showed great fighting spirit to create some great moments. I am very happy with our drivers this season.

”

Seven titles in four years: What is the secret behind this level of consistency?

Marquardt: “It is true that we have managed to win at least one title each year since our comeback in 2012. This consistency shows just how well and hard everyone involved works on this project. The DTM is so fiercely contested that you can't expect to be at the top in every race. Rather you have to keep an eye on every minor detail and optimise them to pick up maximum points when the opportunity arises. We have been very successful at this on a regular basis since 2012.”

There were also plenty of controversial moments this season. What is your opinion on these moments?

Marquardt: “That's true, the spectators experienced plenty of action in the DTM in 2015 – and the mark was overstepped in terms of sportsmanship and fairness in certain situations. I am happy that we had more of a spectator role in it all. We delivered thrilling and fair racing for the fans. Each driver fought for their own success – and it was this approach that brought us the manufacturers' title.”

The 2015 DTM season in the BMW Motorsport review.

Hockenheim (DE), 18th October 2015. BMW Motorsport can look back on a successful fourth season since returning to the DTM in 2012. With five wins, 19 podiums, seven pole positions and five fastest laps, the BMW M4 DTM has emphatically proven what it is capable of in its second year in the popular touring car series and, in doing so, ensured that BMW finished on top of the Manufacturers’ Championship for the third time in four years. In total, the manufacturer has won seven of a possible 12 titles since 2012.

In our DTM review, we cast our minds back to the year’s top stories and the highlights of an eventful 2015 season from a BMW Motorsport perspective.

Number one again: BMW wins the 2015 Manufacturers’ Championship.
BMW is the most successful manufacturer of the 2015 DTM season. With a grand total of 602 points, the eight BMW drivers out-performed the opposition from Mercedes and Audi for the third time in four years – despite a difficult start to the season: after the first two race weekends in Hockenheim (DE) and at the Lausitzring (DE), BMW had just 48 points and trailed the leaders by 217 points. However, a combination of a dramatic improvement and the performance weight system allowed the BMW teams and drivers to launch a remarkable fight back. Having previously won the title with the BMW M3 DTM in 2012 and 2013, this was the first Manufacturers’ title with the BMW M4 DTM. This latest success means that BMW has now won seven of a possible 12 titles in the past four DTM seasons and has triumphed in at least one championship every year during this time.

No one-hit wonder: BMW Team RMG the most successful BMW crew again in 2015.
The close battle between BMW Team RMG and BMW Team MTEK to end the 2015 DTM season as the best-placed BMW crew in the Team Championship came down to the very last race weekend. In the end, team principal Stefan Reinhold’s (DE) crew came out on top, finishing second in the Team competition with 206 points to confirm emphatically that the title win in 2014 was far from a flash in the pan. RMG drivers Marco Wittmann (DE) and Maxime Martin (BE) both claimed one race win in 2015. Martin was responsible for one of the most special moments of the season when he triumphed at the team’s home event at the Nürburgring (DE). After four years in the DTM, BMW Team RMG now has seven wins, 15 podiums, six pole positions and five fastest laps to its name.

Mr. Podium: Bruno Spengler the most successful BMW driver of 2015.
No win, but still the best-placed BMW driver in the overall DTM standings in 2015: Bruno Spengler (CA) was a picture of consistency in the BMW Bank M4 DTM, ending the season fifth in the Drivers’ Championship despite not once making it onto the very top step of the podium. The 2012 DTM champion stepped onto the podium on six occasions this year. It all started with third place in the Sunday race at the Norisring (DE), where the Canadian claimed BMW’s first top-three finish of the season. He followed this with third-place finishes in Zandvoort (NL), Moscow (RU) and at the Nürburgring (DE), as well as second places in Moscow and Oschersleben (DE).

Flying youngster: Tom Blomqvist is “Rookie of the Year”.
The 2015 DTM season once again showed that BMW Motorsport has a knack of discovering talented young drivers. Tom Blomqvist (GB) became the fourth BMW driver in a row to win the unofficial title of “Rookie of the Year”. Blomqvist follows in the footsteps of Augusto Farfus (2012), Marco Wittmann (2013) and Maxime Martin (2014). The highlight of the season for the BMW Team RBM driver was his victory in Sunday’s race in Oschersleben (DE). However, Blomqvist impressed across the board. He qualified in the top ten on nine occasions and finished in the points six times.

Historic triumph: top-seven lock-out for BMW in Zandvoort.
A first for the DTM record books. The Saturday race in Zandvoort (NL) saw BMW claim the first ever top-seven lock-out. Marco Wittmann (DE) crossed the finish line first, followed by António Félix da Costa (PT), Maxime Martin (BE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Bruno Spengler (CA), Timo Glock (DE) and Tom Blomqvist (GB). Only once before the race in Zandvoort had one manufacturer claimed the top six positions in the DTM. BMW does have three top-five lock-outs to its name in the DTM – one of which came in Sunday’s race in Zandvoort. The other two quintuple successes for BMW came in Diepholz (DE) in 1990 and at the 1992 finale in Hockenheim (DE).

The comeback king: Martin Tomczyk makes up 15 places at the Nürburgring.
Nowhere was the outstanding fighting spirit of BMW Team Schnitzer driver Martin Tomczyk (DE) more apparent than in Sunday’s race at the Nürburgring (DE): the previous day he had been forced to watch from the sidelines, as technical issues meant his BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM was unable to start the race. Tomczyk then had to start Sunday’s race from the very back of the grid. Despite this difficult starting position, the experienced driver worked his way through the field one place at a time, eventually coming home in ninth place to score valuable points – just reward for his attitude and the tireless commitment of BMW Team Schnitzer.

ELMS: TDS Racing claims the title in the GTC class, victory for BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS in the GTE class.

The 2015 season in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) ended with a title win for the BMW Z4 GT3 and victory for the BMW Z4 GTE. TDS Racing won the title in the GTC class at the final round of the season in Estoril (PT). Second place in the class at the four-hour race in Estoril proved sufficient for the team to wrap up the championship. The number 59 BMW Z4 GT3 was driven by Franck Perera, Dino Lunardi and Eric Dermont (all FR). The race win in the GTE class went to BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS. BMW works driver Andy Priaulx (GB), BMW Motorsport Junior Jesse Krohn (FI) and Henry Hassid (FR) guided the number 52 BMW Z4 GTE to first place in its class. Their lead at the end of an eventful race was one lap.

VLN: successful double start for Michele Di Martino.

Talented young driver Michele Di Martino (DE), who regularly races for TKS-Motorsport in the BMW M235i Racing Cup, made his debut in the BMW Z4 GT3 in the penultimate race of the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring (DE) on Saturday. Sharing the driving duties with Henry Walkenhorst (DE) and Matias Henkola (FI), he finished seventh overall in the Walkenhorst Motorsport team’s number 35 car. The number 36 car failed to finish. Victory went to the number 2 Mercedes. BMW teams claimed a total of five class victories at the ROWE DMV 250-Mile Race.

BMW M235i Racing Cup: Bonk Motorsport wraps up the title with one race to spare.

The winner of the Team competition in the BMW M235i Racing Cup was crowned at the end of the ninth and penultimate round of the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring (DE). With 172 points to its name, Bonk Motorsport now heads to the season finale on 31st October with an unassailable 40-point lead over Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport. The race for the title in the Drivers’ Championship is a closer affair. Thanks to their fourth win of the season, Michele Di Martino (DE) and Moritz Oberheim (DE) of the TKS-Motorsport team are now level on points with Ralf Schall (DE) and Mario Merten (DE) of Bonk Motorsport at the top of the overall standings. Schall/Merten finished runners-up on Saturday, in a direct duel between the two leading pairs of drivers.

DTM: Zanardi takes Spengler for a spin in the BMW M4 DTM Race Taxi.

An unfamiliar role for BMW DTM works driver Bruno Spengler (CA): at the start of the DTM race weekend at the Hockenheimring (DE), he climbed into the passenger seat for a change, rather than taking his usual place behind the wheel. On Friday, Spengler was a passenger in the BMW M4 DTM Race Taxi, which was driven by BMW works driver Alessandro Zanardi (IT). The pair are a well-oiled team, having both competed alongside Timo Glock (DE) in this year’s 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (BE). “It was great fun. At first it was a bit strange not to be driving. In the first few corners, I instinctively tried to brake. However, I had every faith in Alex. He really put his foot down. When I climbed out, I had a big grin on my face. For me as a racing driver, it was something completely different, but a great experience,” said Spengler. Zanardi also enjoyed their laps together. “I know the circuit from the past, but still had to reacquaint myself with it a bit at first. Also, the tyres were still cold at the start. For this reason, I was not able to go flat-out at first and scare Bruno as much as I had hoped to,” said Zanardi. “As we approached the hairpin for the first time, I could see Bruno trying to find the brake pedal on his side of the car. I can imagine how hard it must be for a racing driver to simply sit there without doing anything, and not to have control. However, he gradually relaxed and we both had a lot of fun. It was great to take to the track in the Race Taxi. I have driven an awful lot of racing cars in my career, but the BMW M4 DTM really is fantastic and one of the cars in which I have had the most fun in the cockpit. It was fantastic.” Zanardi also took many guests and media representatives for a ride over the course of the weekend.

DTM: Marco Wittmann welcomes 20 millionth visitor to BMW Welt.

BMW DTM works driver Marco Wittmann (DE) had a special duty to perform last week: together with Dieter Reiter, Mayor of Munich (DE), and Helmut Käs, Head of BMW Welt, he welcomed the 20 millionth visitor to BMW Welt in Munich. Christoph Wald and his family from Aachen were greeted with fireworks and video messages of congratulation from all over the world. Wittmann presented the special guest with a special gift, on behalf of BMW Welt: he will be given a new BMW X1 to drive for one year. BMW Welt was opened in 2007. Last year it set a new record, with over three million guests. That makes BMW Welt the most-visited attraction in Bavaria. A good 30 per cent of the visitors come from Germany. The majority of foreign guests come from the USA, followed by Asia and the Middle East. However, the neighbouring countries of Austria and Italy are also well represented. As well as the brand worlds of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, BMW Welt also offers a diverse programme of entertainment from the worlds of art, culture and entertainment, as well as tours, gastronomic treats and the memorable experience of collecting your new car.

DTM: BMW Motorsport continues its run of podium finishes in Moscow.

BMW drivers followed in the footsteps of Augusto Farfus (BR) in 2013 and Maxime Martin (BE) last year to finish on the podium at this year’s DTM races in Moscow (RU): Marco Wittmann (DE) finished runner-up on Saturday, followed in third place by Bruno Spengler (CA). Spengler went one better in race two, ending Sunday’s race in second place. In total, the BMW drivers scored 73 points in Russia.

Three questions for... Bruno Spengler.

Bruno, how would you sum up the races in Moscow?

Bruno Spengler: “I leave Russia with a positive feeling. Unfortunately I did not quite manage to get a pole position or race win. However, I can obviously be very happy with third place on Saturday and second in Sunday’s race. I scored a lot of points for BMW Team MTEK. I finished runner-up here last year too. Moscow seems to suit me.”

Both DTM races at the “Moscow Raceway” were quite eventful for you...

Spengler: “Yes, there was quite a lot going on. On Saturday I managed to overtake Jamie Green in the final corner to make it onto the podium. In Sunday’s race, the early stages were very fiercely contested. I had a great battle with Mike Rockenfeller. Everything was fair. That is what motorsport should be all about. Even the pit stops were exciting. My team had a great strategy. Unfortunately I was not quite able to match Mike’s pace and he pulled clear. However, I came home second in the end.”

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

Spengler: “I want to score as many points as possible in the remaining races. We will have to see whether we will always be good enough for a place on the podium. Whatever happens, we will never stop fighting.”

ADAC GT Masters: One-two for BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert.

BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert claimed its third one-two in the ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring (DE). Dominik Baumann (AT) and Jens Klingmann (DE,) in the number 80 BMW Z4 GT3, came home ahead of team-mates Claudia Hürtgen (DE) and Uwe Alzen (DE), in the number 19 car, to claim victory at the sixth of eight race weekends. Hürtgen achieved a first in the ADAC GT Masters in the morning, when she became the first woman in the history of the series to secure pole position. Having climbed temporarily into second place in the overall standings courtesy of victory on Saturday, Baumann/Klingmann had to settle for 13th in qualifying for race two, which was held on the Sunday for the first time. The second Schubert car started one place back in 14th. In the race, Baumann/Klingmann were able to climb into eighth thanks to a good pit strategy, for which they were rewarded with six points.

Japanese Super GT: Podium for the BMW Z4 GT3 in Suzuka.

Second place for the BMW Z4 GT3: round four of the Japanese Super GT Championship in Suzuka (JP) was a successful one for BMW Sports Trophy Team Studie. Having started from third on the grid, BMW works driver Jörg Müller (DE) and Seiji Ara (JP) came home second after 151 laps in their BMW Z4 GT3. The duo narrowly missed out on victory: after just short of six hours of racing, Müller/Ara finished just 1.089 seconds behind the winning Nissan.

24h Zolder: Impressive outing for the BMW M235i Racing.

The iconic 24-hour race in Zolder (BE) featured a strong contingent of BMW teams and drivers: no fewer than 36 of the 61 cars in the starting field were BMWs. Eleven BMW M235i Racings competed at the endurance marathon, which also counted towards the BMW M235i Racing Cup Belgium – and every one of them finished the race. Maciej Dreszer (PL), Stéphane Kox (NL), Peter Kox (NL), Jos Menten (NL) and Dennis Retera (NL) in the number 241 car were the best-placed BMW crew, finishing fifth overall and claiming victory in the T7 category. BMW Motorsport Juniors Victor Bouveng (SE), Trent Hindman (US) and Louis Delétraz (CH) finished ninth in their class alongside head instructor Dirk Adorf (DE).

ADAC GT Masters: Fourth place for Baumann/Klingmann at the Nürburgring.
BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert narrowly missed out on a place on the podium at the Nürburgring (DE), as the second half of the ADAC GT Masters got underway. Sunday’s race took place on a wet track, with Dominik Baumann (AT) and Jens Klingmann (DE) coming home fourth in the number 80 BMW Z4 GT3. The duo, who won two races in the first half of the season, missed out on the podium by just 1.6 seconds. A time penalty on Saturday saw Baumann and Klingmann relegated out of the points positions and eventually classified twelfth in race one. They now lie third in the overall standings with 101 points to their name. Uwe Alzen (DE) and Claudia Hürtgen (DE), in the second BMW Z4 GT3 fielded by BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, were on course for a podium finish in race one. A minor collision with a rival car, and the resulting spin, however, resulted in the number 19 car dropping back to sixth place. Sunday’s race came to a premature end at the second corner for Alzen and Hürtgen, who were forced to retire after a crash that was no fault of their own. The third BMW Z4 GT3 in the field – that of the Senkyr Motorsport team – finished 15th and 17th. Jakub Knoll (CZ) was third in the Gentleman class on Saturday.

DTM: Bruno Spengler visits the ADAC GT Masters.

One month before the DTM heads to the Nürburgring (DE) for races 15 and 16 of the season, BMW DTM driver Bruno Spengler (CA) visited to the Eifel mountains to watch the two ADAC GT Masters races at close quarters. “I was really pleased to come to the Nürburgring during the DTM break, and to check out the action in the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC Formula 4,” said Spengler. “In my opinion, Formula 4 is a great junior series, and I took the opportunity to support BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert in the pits. It is a strong team, and the BMW Z4 GT3 is a fantastic car. I have now driven in two 24-hour races, and would obviously love to compete in the odd race in GT cars in the future.”

GT4 European Series: BMW Teams top – Braams back in the cockpit.

The GT4 European Series race weekend at the Nürburgring (DE) witnessed an emotional moment, when BMW Sports Trophy participant Liesette Braams (NL) returned to the cockpit of her BMW M3 GT4 for the first time since completing her cancer therapy. She was only involved in testing, rather than the actual races, but the return to the racetrack was a big moment for her and the Las Moras Racing team and it inspired sporting success too. Her team-mate Jörg Viebahn (DE) finished runner-up to take his place on the podium in race one. He was followed over the line by in third place by Simon Knap (NL) and Rob Severs (NL) of Racing Team Holland by Ekris Motorsport in their BMW M3 GT4. In race two, Knap and Severs were the best-placed BMW team in fourth.

Team BMW Motorsport comes second in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

Nürburgring, 26th June 2011. BMW Motorsport celebrated being on the winners’ podium at its home event at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE), two weeks after finishing third in the GTE class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (FR). After completing the record-breaking156 laps, the BMW M3 GT with number 1 crossed the finish line second at the 24-hour race in the “Green Hell“, in front of 250,000 spectators. Augusto Farfus (BR), Jörg Müller (DE), Uwe Alzen (DE) and Pedro Lamy (PT) took turns at the wheel, delivered a strong performance and were 4:23 minutes behind the winning no. 18 Manthey-Porsche at the end of the race.

Except for a collision on lap 24 and the subsequent three-minute stop-and-go penalty, last year’s winners ran a flawless race and impressively demonstrated the high level of performance of the BMW M3 GT. At the chequered flag for the endurance classic in the Eifel they were still just defeated by what in the circumstances was a small margin.

The second car with number 7, driven by Dirk Müller (DE), Dirk Werner (DE) and Dirk Adorf (DE), was lying 16th in the standings with 139 laps completed, when the BMW M3 GT came to a halt on the circuit in the the “Breidscheid” section having lost all traction. .Earlier in the race, a problem with the brake system and the necessary repairs had cost it more than an hour. From the back of the field, the driving trio admirably worked its way back to the top-20, but was not rewarded with a finish despite its fighting spirit.

The BMW career of outgoing BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, who will be succeeded by Jens Marquardt on 1st July, comes full circle with second place at the Nürburgring. In 1999, he started his term with an endurance triumph in Le Mans where the BMW V12 LMR was able to claim an outright win. His motor racing career in the service of BMW now ends with a podium finish at another 24-hour classic. BMW was able to celebrate three wins – in 2004, 2005 and 2010 – at the Nürburgring under the guidance of Theissen. BMW has been at the very front in this race a total of 19 times since 1970.

BMW continued its string of good results this season with the podium at the Nürburgring. After winning the 24-hour races in Daytona (US) and Dubai (AE), the one-two in the GT class at the 12 Hours of Sebring (US), as well as third in the GTE category at the marathon in Le Mans (FR), yet another top result now followed in the home event.

Reactions.

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): “This was once again a dramatic 24-hour race here at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Congratulations to the squad of Olaf Manthey. They once more put in a really strong performance this weekend. The course of the race was in many ways reminiscent of last year when we celebrated victory. The big difference, however, was the fact we were able to meet our competition on the same level the entire distance this time – thanks to the meticulous continued development of the BMW M3 GT. Despite some setbacks, we were able to work our way to the front and fight for the victory until the very end. Credit is also due to our second team of drivers who fought their way to 16th from the back of the field until they were forced to retire. For me personally, this was the last race as BMW Motorsport Director. I am happy to say goodbye with such a success for our team. It all started for me at BMW Motorsport with the victory in Le Mans in 1999 – now I can leave with another podium finish at the Nordschleife. Both events mean a lot to me, and, of course, we would have liked to rack up the 20th victory for BMW. But yesterday’s incident unfortunately tipped the scales.“

Charly Lamm (Team Manager): “This has been a tough fight from the very first lap. We started quite well, but then for a short while we didn’t get everything to come together as it should have done. This was when the lead opened up, which we weren’t able to close before the chequered flag came out. We fought like lions, but more than second place was just not possible today. We were able to show, how strong the BMW M3 GT is, that we are a true endurance team and how breathtaking motor racing can be.”

Augusto Farfus (car number 1): “The Nordschleife just is the greatest track in the world. I dreamt about racing here when I was a kid. BMW has given me the opportunity to do this. Now I’m here on the podium for the second time after our victory last year. The level of competition has become even higher compared to 2010. It felt like an ultra-long world touring car race here. Although we couldn’t repeat last year’s win, second place is a fantastic result.”

Jörg Müller (car number 1): “This has been the most difficult 24-hour race that I have ever contested here at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Following the VLN races we knew that there would be up to 20 cars fighting for victory here. In the end, this fight went to the wire between us and the Manthey Porsche. It was good fun, and the car ran like clockwork.”

Uwe Alzen (car number 1): “I’m completely satisfied. It was a tough fight out there, and our car ran flawlessly. This time the 24-hour race was rathe a sprint contest over 24 hours. There were many accidents, and everyone pushed to the absolute limit. I’m happy we made it onto the podium again. Of course I would have loved to score my third victory, but still second is a fantastic reward here at the Nordschleife.”

Pedro Lamy (car number 1): “It now looks as if the penalty we received after my accident in the ‘Karussell’ maybe was the decider in this race. However, I just didn’t see any other chance than going up the track the wrong way in order to get out of the danger zone. But this is a thing in the past now. Second place is a strong result, and we fought really hard for it.”

Dirk Müller (car number 7): “Following our early technical problem, I was desperately disappointed. I’m over it now, but I feel really sorry for the guys in the team. Our car doesn’t have a single scratch on it. If you imagine what would have been possible here, it gives me pain. So I can’t do anything else than look to the future. In two weeks time I’m on duty in the American Le Mans Series. I take this 24-hour race as arguably the hardest training camp in the world.”

Dirk Werner (car number 7): “There’s a huge disappointment just now. We fought back into the race and wanted to return to the top-15 ranks. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the finish, which is a pity. But I’m quite sure there will be some more opportunities in the future to prove that we can do better.”

Dirk Adorf (car number 7):“Just like last year, we were hit by a problem in the opening stages of the race. This has been a bit of a déjà vu experience for us. So we hoped we could do it like in 2010, make it back into the top-15, with our sister car claiming the outright victory. We didn’t reach any of these goals. That’s a shame. But still I’m really proud that BMW made it to the podium again.”

Change at the top of BMW Motorsport: Mario Theissen to hand over to Jens Marquardt on 1 July 2011.

Munich, 24 November 2010. After more than 12 uninterrupted years, a changeover at the head of BMW Motorsport is in the offing. On 30 June 2011, BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen will pass on the baton to his successor Jens Marquardt and retire from his post. 43-year-old Marquardt will join the company on 1 January 2011, going dual with Theissen for the first six months of the year to familiarise himself with his new task. This will ensure the seamless execution of the 2011 racing programme and preparations for the 2012 DTM project.

“We have planned and prepared this changeover very carefully,” explains Theissen. “With the realignment of BMW Motorsport and the decision in favour of the DTM project, the path to a successful future on the race track has been mapped out. Now is also the best time to entrust the leadership of BMW Motorsport to new hands. I have no doubt that in Jens Marquardt we have found the right man for this exciting task and I look forward to our time working together. On 1 July 2011 he will be perfectly equipped to take over the reins.”

Marquardt comments: “Heading up BMW Motorsport is a dream job for me and a tremendous show of confidence. The endurance events with the BMW M3, the broad-based customer sport programme, the promotion of junior racing talent, and above all the DTM project are all fascinating challenges. I know that Mario Theissen will support me in every way and I can hardly wait to get down to work.”

Theissen first joined BMW on 15 June 1977 as a development engineer. He took on various responsibilities in engine development before going on to run the BMW Innovation Centres in Munich and Palo Alto. Theissen has been in charge of BMW’s motor sport programme since 1 April 1999.

Marquardt was born on 20 May 1967. After a degree in aerospace technology, he turned to a career in engine development. From 1996 to 2000 he worked for Ilmor Engineering on the development of Formula One and CART engines. He joined Toyota Motorsport in 2000, initially working in the Formula One engine department, and then from 2008 as F1 Operations and Team Manager. His most recent post was as General Manager Business Development, Operations & Production.

Η BMW Motorsport εγκαινιάζει νέους ορίζοντες στην προώθηση νέων ταλέντων.

Μόναχο, 8 Ιουλίου 2010. Στο πλαίσιο της στρατηγικής αναθεώρησης της εμπλοκής της στα αγωνιστικά δρώμενα, η BMW εγκαινιάζει νέους ορίζοντες στην προώθηση νέων αγωνιστικών ταλέντων μετά από μία επιτυχημένη δεκαετία με το πρωτάθλημα Formula BMW. Ξεκινώντας από την ερχόμενη σεζόν, καθιερώνεται το "Formula BMW Talent Cup". Η BMW καταργεί το πρωτάθλημα Formula BMW σε Ευρώπη και Ασία.

Η ιδέα Formula BMW Talent Cup έχει δύο στόχους: να προσφέρει σε νέους αγωνιστικούς οδηγούς μία ολοκληρωμένη εκπαίδευση και να τους προετοιμάσει για μία επαγγελματική καριέρα στο μηχανοκίνητο αθλητισμό. Το target group είναι ταλαντούχοι νεαροί οδηγοί ηλικίας 14 ετών και άνω, έτσι το Formula BMW Talent Cup προσεγγίζει ακόμα καλύτερα τους νέους οδηγούς των καρτ από όσο η Formula BMW. Το Formula BMW FB02 θα συνεχίσει να χρησιμοποιείται ως το εργοστασιακής υποστήριξης μονοθέσιο της BMW Motorsport.

Ο Διευθυντής της BMW Motorsport, Mario Theissen, εξηγεί: «Η προώθηση νεαρών ταλέντων εξακολουθεί να είναι ένα σημαντικό στοιχείο της νέας μας στρατηγικής. Η BMW εμπλέκεται στην υποστήριξη ταλαντούχων νεαρών οδηγών από τη δεκαετία του 1970 και στοχεύει να συνεχίσει αυτή την παράδοση. Με το Formula BMW Talent Cup δημιουργούμε μία θέση ανάμεσα στο κάρτινγκ και τους επαγγελματικούς αγώνες, επομένως εμπλεκόμαστε ένα στάδιο νωρίτερα σε σχέση με τη Formula BMW.

Η νέα στρατηγική μας επιτρέπει να αντιδράσουμε σε νέες συνθήκες και στην αύξηση του κόστους που παρατηρήθηκε στους αγώνες junior με μονοθέσια. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, παρέχουμε στους νεαρούς οδηγούς μία πλατφόρμα οικονομικού κόστους και δίνουμε μεγαλύτερη έμφαση στην πρακτική οδηγική εμπειρία και στην εκπαίδευση των οδηγών ώστε να τους προσφέρουμε την καλύτερη δυνατή προετοιμασία για τη μελλοντική καριέρα τους εντός και εκτός πίστας. Στο τέλος της ετήσιας εκπαίδευσης, ο πιο ταλαντούχος οδηγός θα κερδίσει μία σεζόν σε ένα πρωτάθλημα ανώτερης κατηγορίας με τη χρηματοδότηση της BMW».

Η ιδέα για το Formula BMW Talent Cup βασίζεται στο ολοκληρωμένο πρόγραμμα εκπαίδευσης, που περιλαμβάνει μία θεωρητική προσέγγιση του μηχανοκίνητου αθλητισμού και εντατικές δοκιμές σε αγωνιστική πίστα. Οι συμμετέχοντες σταδιακά θα εξοικειωθούν με τον ανταγωνιστικό χαρακτήρα των σύγχρονων αγωνιστικών διοργανώσεων μέσα από αρκετές δοκιμές στην πίστα που θα εστιάζουν σε κλασσικές διαδικασίες σεταρίσματος, αντοχής/μεγάλης διάρκειας και προσομοιώσεις αγώνων.

Το Formula BMW Talent Cup κορυφώνεται στο Μεγάλο Τελικό στο τέλος της σεζόν, που θα λάβει χώρα κάτω από πραγματικές αγωνιστικές συνθήκες σε περιβάλλον επαγγελματικών αγώνων.Το πρόγραμμα που συνοδεύει την αγωνιστική οδήγηση στην πίστα περιλαμβάνει συστηματικά μαθήματα τα οποία εστιάζονται στους τομείς ανάλυσης δεδομένων και σεταρίσματος του οχήματος, παράλληλα με την τεχνική οδήγησης.

Πριν τη σεζόν, μία δοκιμή φυσικής κατάστασης προσδιορίζει το πρόγραμμα εκπαίδευσης για όλη τη σεζόν που περιλαμβάνει ειδική πνευματική εκπαίδευση και σωματικές ασκήσεις. Στο τέλος της σεζόν, οι οδηγοί προετοιμάζονται εντατικά για μελλοντική επαφή με τα μέσα ενημέρωσης και τους σπόνσορες.

Μία σεζόν στο Formula BMW Talent Cup προσφέρεται σε έως και 15 συμμετέχοντες αντί του ποσού των 100,000 Euro το άτομο. Η συμμετοχή απευθύνεται αποκλειστικά σε όσους δεν έχουν εμπειρία από αγωνιστικά πρωταθλήματα εκτός κάρτινγκ. Όπου είναι δυνατόν, το πρόγραμμα θα αποφεύγει αγωνιστικές συμπτώσεις, για να μπορούν οι οδηγοί να αγωνίζονται ταυτόχρονα στα πρωταθλήματα του κάρτινγκ.

Η Formula BMW στην τρέχουσα μορφή της έχει οδηγήσει πολλούς πιλότους στην F1. Μόνο στη φετινή σεζόν, επτά οδηγοί της F1 προέρχονται από την Formula BMW, ενώ πολλοί ακόμα βρίσκονται ένα βήμα πριν τον κορυφαίο αυτό θεσμό. Πάνω από 70 οδηγοί πέρασαν στη Formula 3 ή σε παρόμοιες αγωνιστικές κατηγορίες. Η επιτυχημένη Αγωνιστική Εμπειρία Formula BMW γίνεται όλο και πιο δημοφιλής σαν μία πλατφόρμα απόκτησης αγωνιστικών αδειών οδήγησης και ανέλιξης σε ανώτερες κατηγορίες, και θα συνεχίσει να διοργανώνεται τα επόμενα χρόνια.
