BMW Service requests owners of the BMW X5 to take their vehicle to a workshop
for
an inspection. In all, 22,000 X5s (approx 1,900 in Germany) are being inspected
worldwide, many of which have not yet been delivered to customers. Owners of the
vehicles involved are currently being contacted by BMW dealers.

Quality control has revealed that a bolt on the steering column was possibly not
fitted properly on a few models. Although the likelihood of such a defect is
very small
indeed, BMW requests the customers involved to have their vehicle checked as
soon
as possible by a BMW service station. This free inspection takes about 30
minutes.
The possibility cannot be ruled out altogether that the connection between the
steering column and the steering transmission might suddenly break loose. This
may deprive the driver of his steering, possibly leading to an accident,
depending on
the traffic situation.

Approximately 45,000 BMW X5s (in Germany approximately 4,500) have been
delivered to customers worldwide since the market launch of this sports
activity
