BMW X5 Achieves Best Safety Results.
Side impact crash tests conducted in the United States on the BMW
Group's X5 sports activity vehicle have demonstrated the importance of
its head protection system. The vehicle achieved the best ever results
of any SUV tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The IIHS conducted a range of comprehensive tests which involved ramming
an X5 sideways into a stationary pole and a frontal crash test. The
tests demonstrated that people driving a BMW X5 can survive serious side
impact crashes in the real world because the head airbags prevent their
heads from striking rigid objects. Robert Bailey-McEwan, Managing
Director, BMW Group Middle East, said: "The BMW X5 is one of the
safest vehicles on the road and combines the sporty and comfortable
attributes of a typical BMW saloon with exceptional safety features.
The vehicle comes standard with eight airbags, plus two optional ones
offering all passengers maximum protection from injury." Side
airbags with head protection represent a very important safety
development that will save lives and prevent major head trauma in a
range of serious side impact crashes. The benefit of BMW's Head
Protection System (HPS) was first demonstrated by the IIHS in a side
impact test on an HPS-equipped BMW 5-Series. In recognition of the
results, the International Brain Injury Association awarded BMW its
"Safe Car of the Millennium" award. Robert Bailey-McEwan,
Managing Director of BMW Group Middle East, said: "Our BMW X5 has
set new motoring standards since its launch in 1999 and is proving to
be extremely popular here in the Middle East." "It is
extremely reassuring to know that its safety systems have proved to be
so effective in these safety tests." - Ends -
