Munich. Bavarian premium carmaker BMW is using an
elaborately orchestrated brand campaign to shine the spotlight on its
wide range of fully electric vehicles, which now comprises the BMW i4,
BMW i5, BMW i7, BMW iX1, BMW iX2, BMW iX3 and BMW iX. The
multi-channel campaign is focusing communications on values that have
forever been associated with the BMW brand – exceptional dynamics,
innovative technologies, unmistakable design and supreme driving comfort.

The global campaign relies primarily on video formats. The
centrepiece of the campaign launch was a 30-second TV commercial,
which has been spun off across the brand’s social media channels –
YouTube and Instagram, in particular – and, with the help of paid
media, in the individual markets. The commercial invites the viewer to
discover the “soul” and character of BMW along a fast-paced journey
through the history of the brand: from victories in motor racing via
the brand’s distinctive design language and expertise, and its
time-honoured talent for innovation, all the way to the transformation
to electric mobility. The joy of driving has been inextricably linked
with BMW since the company was formed – and this commercial brings it
to life through the brand’s all-electric models.

The use of the hit single “Beautiful Things” by US singer Benson
Boone turns up the emotionality of the commercial another notch. The
track has exceeded 1.3 billion streams on Spotify alone and has also
been a trending sound on social media platform TikTok for several months.

The emotionally charged hero film is accompanied by a series of other
assets. For example, five reels have been produced which focus on the
brand’s core competencies – Performance, Heritage, Innovation,
Motorsport and Community. And additional reels telling inspirational
social-media stories on the various fully electric models round off
the multi-channel campaign.

“With this emotional campaign we are celebrating the unique soul of
our brand, which has defined us since day one and which we have also
carried into our fully electric BMW vehicles,” says Bernd Körber,
Senior Vice President BMW Brand and Product Management. “After all,
our customers represent the true essence of BMW, and they experience
pure driving pleasure in all of our models.”

As well as the video content, a selection of just under 40 photo
assets showcase the fully electric models to spectacular effect in
natural surroundings – at different times of day and in different
locations. Atmospheric lighting, which enriches the motifs with warm
colours and mildly exaggerated contrasts, brings a very distinct sense
of approachability to the images. The exclusive features of the
individual models, such as the two-tone paint finish of the BMW i7,
are depicted realistically. Alongside numerous individual images
emphasising the pure joy of electric driving, a handful of pack shots
of the BMW i4, BMW i5, BMW i7, BMW iX1, BMW iX2, BMW iX3 and BMW iX in
their various configurations highlight the rich diversity of vehicles
offered by BMW across the relevant segments.

Singapore.

BMW Asia today announced the availability
of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring, representing progress in the BMW
Group's key fields of the future in a further vehicle class. Since its
1991 debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the BMW 5 Series Touring
has been the epitome of driving pleasure, sporty elegance, and modern
functionality in the premium upper mid-range segment. Now, the world’s
most successful business touring car on the market enters a new era
with all-electric drive for the first time.

“Slotting alongside its bestselling sedan siblings, the first-ever
BMW i5 Touring is an extraordinary car that our fans in Singapore have
been waiting for,” said Mr. Lars Nielsen, Managing Director, BMW Group
Asia. “Its popular touring body type makes it a hot new entry to our
electric line-up, further expanding choices for our customers. This
new addition also completes the BMW 5 Series family we have here with
its distinctive exterior, versatile interior, and pure electric
driving pleasure. We are thrilled to further support Singapore’s
accelerating transition towards electric mobility with even more
exciting EVs in the months to come!”

Like the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan, the Touring model is also based
on a flexible drive architecture. All model variants are produced on a
joint production line at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing where only
around 620 grams of residual waste were produced per vehicle
manufactured in 2022. The electricity used for vehicle production is
generated from renewable sources to 100 per cent. Corresponding
optimisations implemented in the supply chain reduce the CO2 footprint
by up to 20 percent for the first-ever BMW i5 Touring, compared to
vehicles in which these measures are not applied. This is a
significant contribution to BMW Group’s sustainability targets across
the entire value chain and fulfils its premium claim not only in terms
of build quality and driving pleasure, but with regards to its
environmental impact.

Exterior: Stretched proportions emphasise elegance and presence.

In keeping with the modern design language of the all-new BMW 5
Series, the first-ever BMW i5 Touring features generous, clearly
defined surfaces. These are structured by a few precisely placed
lines. Its 2-box design is expressed above all in the long roofline,
the gently sloping rear, and the dynamically stretched side window
graphics. In addition, a striking lateral indentation in the rear of
the body and the dynamically sloping roofline give the first-ever BMW
i5 Touring an athletic and sporty appearance.

The first-ever BMW i5 Touring measures 5,060 millimetres long, 1,900
millimetres wide, and 1,515 millimetres tall with a wheelbase of 2,995
millimetres. The resulting proportions, together with the modern
surface design, signalise elegance and a commanding presence.

Distinctive front end, flat side window graphics, individual
rear end.

Like the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan, the first-ever BMW i5 Touring
has a striking front end with a modern interpretation of the typical
BMW grille and twin headlights. The BMW radiator grille, which
projects far forward, features the standard BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.

Adaptive LED headlights with blue design elements are standard. The
LED headlights feature the brand's distinctive four-eyed face in a
reduced form. Two almost vertical LED elements arranged on the outside
provide the daytime driving lights and the turn indicators. The
precisely orchestrated interplay between the headlights, the
illuminated BMW radiator grille, and the light carpet projected from
the sill create effective welcome and goodbye scenarios. The range of
functions of the Matrix High Beam includes the glare-free High Beam
Assist BMW Selective Beam.

In the side view, the flat side window graphics, the slim D-pillar,
and the long roof spoiler emphasise the sporty elegance of the
first-ever BMW i5 Touring. An athletic shoulder line rises above the
powerful rear wheel arches. The upper character line of the side
section flows into an air scoop at the rear. Together with the other
horizontal lines and the flat rear window, it emphasises the car's
broad and solid stature. The rear lights, which extend well into the
side sections, also feature a tailormade design. Their horizontal LED
elements are divided by an L-shaped chrome strip.

A wide range of paintwork, aerodynamic wheels, and M Sport Package.

The range of paintwork colours includes one solid finish and nine
metallic finishes. In addition, three optional BMW Individual paint
finishes are available to choose from, including two particularly
expressive matt paint finishes.

The standard equipment of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring includes
20-inch M aerodynamic wheels whose design and construction methods
reduce both weight and air resistance. As part of the standard M Sport
Package, horizontal slats, an M logo, and high-gloss black exterior
mirror caps ensure a particularly striking appearance.

Interior and equipment: The ideal combination of driving
pleasure and functionality.

The fully digital BMW Curved Display, new steering wheels, and sports
seats as well as the gear selector lever on the centre console
characterise the modern interpretation of the brand's typical driver
orientation, which goes hand in hand with the current interior design
of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring. Its progressive premium ambience is
also reflected in the standard BMW Interaction Bar, a fully vegan
interior, and innovative digital services.

Optimised functionality for everyday use, leisure and travel.

Shoulder room in the front is abundant, together with leg, shoulder
and elbow room in the rear. The tailgate of the first-ever BMW i5
Touring swings upwards and the low loading sill makes it easy to stow
large items of luggage.

When all five seats are occupied, the luggage compartment has a
capacity of 570 litres. This can be increased to 1,700 litres by fully
folding down the rear seat backrest, which can be split 40:20:40 as
standard. The proportion of recycled material in the luggage
compartment trim of the first-ever BMW i5 Series Touring is 21 per cent.

As well as automatic tailgate operation, the rear seat backrests can
be remotely unlocked from the luggage compartment as standard. Storage
compartments under the load compartment floor hold the cassettes for
the luggage compartment partition net and flexible luggage compartment
cover. There are also additional stowage compartments, including one
for the charging cable.

Progressive cockpit design with BMW Curved Display, BMW
Interaction Bar and new steering wheels.

At the heart of the progressive cockpit design is the BMW Curved
Display. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch
Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. Another new
feature is the standard light strip for the instrument panel and door
panels. In the same place, the standard BMW Interaction Bar, an
effectively backlit functional unit with a crystalline surface
structure, features not only a dynamic light animation but also
touch-sensitive control panels for the ventilation and air
conditioning systems as well as for activating the hazard warning lights.

The innovative cockpit elements are combined with a large interior
trim for the instrument panel, which is available in particularly
high-quality aluminium, carbon fibre, and fine wood finishes. The
steering wheels, which are now flatter at the bottom, have also been
redesigned and their control panels now provide a haptic feedback. The
standard M leather steering wheel has a characteristic three-spoke design.

Sports seats and fully vegan interior fittings as standard.

Newly designed sports seats come as standard in the first-ever BMW i5
Touring along with additionally electrically operated adjustment
options. Optional features include heated seats, active seat
ventilation with air conditioning, as well as Comfort seats. In the
standard Travel & Comfort System, ambient lighting elements for
the backs of the front seats emphasise the atmospheric ambience in the rear.

The first-ever BMW i5 Touring has a completely vegan interior as
standard. This includes the surfaces of the seats, the dashboard, door
panels, as well as the steering wheel. The standard perforated seat
surfaces in the Veganza version with leather-like properties come with
a decorative quilting.

Optimised technology for air conditioning, lighting and sound.

In the first-ever BMW i5 Touring, the standard automatic air
conditioning with enhanced functions operates with optimised control
logic. Air vents are used in the instrument panel area instead of
conventional air vents. The direction of the air coming out of the
vents can be varied by means of adjusting control levers. In addition,
air conditioning and ventilation are controlled via the touch function
on the Control Display.

BMW IconicSounds Electric provide special sound effects in the
all-electric models. Standard in the first-ever BMW i5 Touring, the
Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker not only provides high quality sound
system with 12 loudspeakers and a 205W amplifier output, they
accompany every movement of the accelerator pedal with authentic
acoustic feedback. Other highlights of the optional equipment
programme include the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with
up to 18 loudspeakers.

Fascinating dynamics and long range thanks to advanced BMW
eDrive technology.

The first-ever BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring is powered by an electric
motor located in the rear axle area. The highly integrated drive unit
generates a maximum power output of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque
of 400 Nm or 430 Nm with the Sport Boost or Launch Control function.
It accelerates the first-ever BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring from zero to 100
km/h in 6.1 seconds. The advanced BMW eDrive technology ensures
exemplary efficiency. The combined power consumption of the BMW i5
eDrive40 Touring according to WLTP is 20.7 kWh per 100 kilometres. Its
range is up to 548 kilometres.

The first-ever BMW i5 Touring has a high-voltage battery with a
usable energy content of 81.2 kWh, which is located in the underbody
to save space. In addition to the efficient electric motors, adaptive
recuperation, and heat pump technology for heating and cooling the
interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the long
distance capability of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring. If required, the
MAX RANGE function can increase the range remaining until the next
charging stop by up to 25 per cent.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring
enables AC charging with an output of up to 22 kW as standard. The
high-voltage battery can be charged with direct current with a power
of up to 205 kW. Anticipatory thermal management for the high-voltage
battery optimises efficiency when using fast-charging stations. There,
the range of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring can be increased by 156
kilometres within 10 minutes.

Charging in Singapore.

To make electromobility simple and straightforward for customers,
today, BMW Asia continues this partnership by offering BMW EV
customers either a comprehensive home or public charging package:

For home charging, customers will receive a BMW Wallbox with
complimentary installation service.

For public charging, customers will receive a subscription package
of 10,000kWh over 3 years at Shell Recharge stations with no monthly
cap for charging. This is equivalent to 50,000km of driving range
(assuming average energy consumption of 20kWh/100km).

The BMW Wallbox provides a fast way to charge their vehicle at a rate
of up to 22kW. Once the vehicle is plugged in, charging begins and
will end automatically when the battery is fully charged or has
reached its pre-determined level.

BMW Charging gives drivers access to one of the largest networks of
public charging stations located in various office buildings, shopping
malls, hotels, and industrial parks in Singapore. Activation of and
payment for the chargers can be done through an RFID card or the Shell
Recharge smartphone app.

Driving experience: chassis technology. Typical brand
dynamics, convincing travel comfort.

The vehicle concept of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring has been
designed to combine the dynamic performance so typical of the brand
with an impressive level of travelling comfort. With the longest
wheelbase in the competitive segment, large track widths, an almost
perfectly balanced 50:50 axle load distribution, intelligent
lightweight construction, and optimised rigidity of the body-chassis
connection, the first-ever BMW i5 Touring offers the ideal conditions
for this.

The design principle of the chassis - with a double-wishbone front
axle and a five-link rear axle - has undergone extensive further
development. The first-ever BMW i5 Touring features a large-volume
mount for the electric motor and special rubber mounts for the rear
axle carrier to optimize agility and ride comfort as well as acoustic
properties and vibration damping. The housing of the high voltage
battery in the underbody contributes to optimising the rigidity of the
front end.

The dynamic character of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring is underlined
by the new standard sports steering. In addition to the
speed-dependent Servotronic steering power assistance, its range of
functions includes a particularly direct and also steering
angle-dependent transmission. The first-ever BMW i5 Touring is
equipped with directly controlled wheel slip limitation and the latest
version of the integrated braking system.

The first-ever BMW i5 Touring is equipped the innovative damper
technology from its stroke-dependent control of the shock absorbers on
both axles. Further standard inclusions are the M Sport suspension
with more direct vehicle handling and lowering by 8 mm over the
standard suspension.

Driving experience: drive assistance systems. Intelligent
systems for automated driving and parking.

The first-ever BMW i5 Touring offers a comprehensive package for
safety as standard equipment with the Driving Assistant. The latest
versions of front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane
Change Warning contribute to this, as do the rear Crossing-traffic
Warning with braking function, rear collision warning and exit
warning. Driving Assistant Plus and Driving Assistant Professional are
also available as options.

The first-ever BMW i5 Touring features the Parking Assistant Plus as
standard, and includes the Parking View, Panorama View front, and 3D
View functions as well as the BMW Drive Recorder and anti-theft
recorder. Parking Assistant Professional is also available as optional equipment.

Display and control system, connectivity. Intuitive operation
and new digital experiences with latest-generation BMW iDrive.

The enhanced version of the BMW iDrive display and operating system
with QuickSelect also contributes to the advanced driving and travel
experience in the first-ever BMW i5 Touring, with optimized options
for intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle and innovative
digital services. It is based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and
features a redesigned home screen with vertically arranged function
icons on the driver’s side. “QuickSelect” enables functions to be
accessed directly without having to switch to a submenu.

The new BMW iDrive is combined with the BMW Curved Display and the
BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It is consistently designed to be
operated by means of a touch display and natural language. The
standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional also includes the BMW Head-Up
Display and the Augmented View function in addition to the cloud-based
navigation system BMW Maps in combination with the BMW Operating
System 8.5. BMW Natural Interaction is also available for controlling
functions using gestures.

Video streaming and AirConsole games on the Control Display.

The BMW Operating System 8.5 offers a wide range of digital content
for information and entertainment, faster update cycles for functions,
and optimized access to many specific online services. In addition to
YouTube, the Video app is also available for video streaming on the
Control Display in conjunction with the standard Connected Package
Professional. The entertainment offering includes both live channels
and on-demand media libraries in the categories of news, sport,
children’s entertainment, movies and series.

The new BMW iDrive also enables the use of an innovative form of
in-car gaming with the AirConsole platform. Driver and passengers can
play so-called casual games while the vehicle is stationary, for
example to bridge waiting times while charging the high-voltage
battery of the first-ever BMW i5 Touring. Players only need their
smartphone, which acts as a controller, and the BMW Curved Display.

BMW Maps navigation system with Augmented View and optimised
route guidance for charging.

The BMW Maps navigation system includes the Augmented View function
that enhances the map display and enables particularly precise

In the first-ever BMW i5 Touring, BMW Maps offers improved functions
for route planning optimised for charging on long-distance journeys.
The charging stops are planned so that the destination is reached as
quickly as possible. The charging status preferred by the driver can
be set to reach the stopovers and the destination. More detailed
information can be provided on request about the charging stations
accessed during the journey, such as availability, costs, and the
infrastructure in the vicinity.

Optimum networking: 5G mobile phone antennas, Personal eSIM,
BMW ID, My BMW App and Remote Software Upgrades.

With two 5G mobile phone antennas as standard, the first-ever BMW i5
Touring ensures optimum reception for phone calls while on the move
and for data transmission when playing games, streaming videos, and
using other online-based services. The standard equipment also
includes smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

The Personal eSIM fully integrates the vehicle into the customer’s
digital ecosystem. It is not only linked to the vehicle, but also to
the user’s BMW ID. Personalising the user experience with BMW ID is

Munich. More dynamic than ever, brimming with digital
innovations, with a spacious interior exuding a premium feel and – in
the shape of the BMW i5, with a fully electric drivetrain for the
first time, the new BMW 5 Series reinforces its claim to leadership in
the premium executive class. For the members of the World Car Awards
expert jury, it was the standout new arrival among the field of luxury
vehicles which celebrated their debuts in the world’s car markets over
the past 12 months. The international panel of experts therefore
handed the BMW 5 Series the crown of World Luxury Car 2024. The
results were announced today at the start of the New York
International Auto Show 2024 as part of a ceremony broadcast worldwide
via streaming services.

The success of the BMW 5 Series was underpinned by assessments
carried out during extensive test drives by the around 100 car
journalists from 30 countries that made up the jury. These ratings
were then recorded in detail by the World Car Awards organisers. The
BMW 5 Series fended off competition from a field of 13 new luxury
vehicles, winning over the jury not only with the majestic power
delivery from its portfolio of electrified combustion engines as well
as the electric drive system, but also with its high comfort levels
over long-distance journeys and numerous digital innovations. “We are
very pleased to receive this prestigious award. The verdict of the
international jury shows that our strong-character products with their
typical BMW qualities convince and inspire demanding target groups all
over the world,” said Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand
and Product Management, Connected Company.

BMW 5 Series: Consistent electrification and digital innovations.

The BMW 5 Series displays its progressive character with its
powertrain technology, its innovative digital services as well as an
elegantly sporty design, generous levels of cabin space, optimised
acoustic comfort and a progressive premium ambience for the interior.
Advanced assistance systems like the motorway assistant and active
Lane Change Assistant with eye confirmation emphasise the
long-distance qualities of the BMW 5 Series. With the display and
control/operation system BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, the BMW Curved
Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended
functionality all on board, the i5 is comprehensively set up for
user-vehicle interaction via touch control and natural speech. When
the car is stationary, BMW 5 Series occupants can explore the
extensive video streaming offering on the control display and enjoy a
new form of in-car gaming – e.g. to make use of the time when the
high-voltage battery is charging.

As a fully integrated member of the new BMW 5 Series model range, the
BMW i5 offers locally emission-free driving pleasure. The driving
dynamics and efficiency of the BMW i5 have their roots in
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. This comprises highly
integrated drive units and high-voltage batteries with extremely high
energy density. In addition, the latest evolution of adaptive
recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology
for heating and cooling the interior, drive system and high-voltage
battery help the car to achieve a range of up to 582 kilometres (362
miles) in the WLTP cycle, depending on the model and specification.
The Combined Charging Unit of the BMW i5 enables AC charging at a rate
of up to 22 kW and DC charging at up to 205 kW. This means the car’s
range can be boosted by up to 156 kilometres (97 miles) within just
10 minutes when plugged into a fast-charging station.

The entire combustion engine portfolio has also been electrified. A
flexibly designed drive architecture that was open to different
technologies from the outset enables the new BMW 5 Series Sedan to be
offered for the first time as an all-electric model, with plug-in
hybrid systems and with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines.
The combustion engines from the new modular generation of BMW Group
Efficient Dynamics engines all feature the latest version of 48-volt
mild hybrid technology.

BMW wins title number nine in the World Car Awards.

The World Car Awards were created 20 years ago to stand alongside
national and regional distinctions as an acknowledgement of
outstanding innovations and new products in car markets worldwide.
This year, the awards were presented in a total of five categories in
addition to the overall prize.

Over the years, BMW has collected eight wins in the World Car Awards.
One of the victors was the BMW 7 Series, which was crowned World
Luxury Car in 2016 already. In 2018, the title of World Performance
Car was presented to the BMW M5. This ninth title win for the Bavarian
premium carmaker is the latest in a long line of distinctions amassed
by the new BMW 5 Series over the past few months. For instance, the
all-electric version alone adds to the trophy collection with a total
of three „Car of the Year“ awards from Norway, Denmark and Italy.

Munich/Los Angeles. The BMW Group presents a fusion
of art and innovation at the Frieze Los Angeles art fair in the form
of the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA. The one-of-a-kind vehicle combines
colour-change technology developed by BMW with the artistic language
of South African artist Esther Mahlangu. The designer piece, with
sections of attached film that can be electronically animated,
embodies the latest development in colour-change technology for
vehicle surfaces in cooperation with E Ink. The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA
celebrates its world premiere at the fair opening on 29 February. The
contemporary tribute recalls the BMW Art Car designed by Mahlangu in
1991. “The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA honours the history of the BMW brand
and continues the story of our global cultural engagement in a unique
way. It combines art and design through progressive technology. Here,
technology itself becomes art,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW
Group Design.

In 1991, Mahlangu designed the 12th BMW Art Car, based on a BMW
525i – becoming the first woman and first African artist to do so.
“Her art inspired me years ago, back when the concept of colour change
on a car was just an idea in my head,” says Stella Clarke, Research
Engineer Open Innovations at the BMW Group. „Now, being able to
realise this idea, and work with Esther Mahlangu, is absolutely
surreal.” The 88-year-old artist’s signature colours and geometric
patterns are perfect for bringing the innovative Flow technology to
life in the BMW i5. The versatility of the electrophoretic colour
changes makes the fully-electric sedan a dynamic work of art. “It is
fascinating to me to see how modern technology can expand my art and
make it accessible to a completely new audience,” says Mahlangu.

Mahlangu’s art meets cutting-edge technology.
In
the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA, which is named after Mahlangu’s first son,
sections of film that can be electronically animated are applied, with
two strips each across the roof, bonnet and rear section, as well as
the vehicle’s sides. Like an e-book reader, there are several million
microcapsules in each E Ink film. The structure and arrangement of the
colour particles they contain can be changed by applying an electric
voltage. This allows the typical colours and patterns of Mahlangu’s
art to be generated in constantly changing compositions.

The animations are also accompanied by an equally extraordinary
sound, specially composed by Renzo Vitale, the BMW Group's Creative
Director, Sound, for the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA. To combine the
soundscape of the BMW brand with that of the South African Ndebele
culture, Vitale used sequences from Mahlangu’s voice, as well as the
sound of the feather brushes she used for painting. These were
combined with sounds produced by the colour pencils employed in the
BMW design studio and the acoustic signal heard as feedback when
operating the BMW i5’s touch display. This created a sound mix that
starts off softly at the beginning of each colour change and increases
in intensity as the animation progresses.

To accurately recreate every detail of the complex
ornamentation, the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA has been fitted with 1,349
sections of film, each of which can be individually controlled. The
laser cutting process used to trim the film and the electronic control
design were developed in partnership with E Ink. The adaptation of the
technology for curved surfaces, as well as the programmed animations,
are all BMW Group in-house developments.

Overall, colour-change technology is developing rapidly. The BMW
iX Flow featuring E Ink presented in 2022 had the ability to switch
from white to black at the push of a button. This was followed just
one year later by the first multi-coloured implementation. The 240
sections of film applied to BMW i Vision Dee were able to display up
to 32 colours. This latest phase of development now enables even more
colours and patterns. At the same time, the sections of the film are
more robust – which could make potential future series production
easier. However, for the time being, the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA will
remain one of a kind.

Tribute to a pioneering artist and her work.
As
a globally respected artist, Esther Mahlangu is known for her Ndebele
paintings, whose ornamentation originally symbolised major events or
festive occasions. Mahlangu separated the designs from their original
meaning and transferred them for the first time to canvas, carpets and
everyday objects, thus preserving them for the future. The BMW i5 Flow
NOSTOKANA is now reinterpreting this artistic language.

In presenting this designer car at Frieze Los Angeles, BMW
continues its long-standing cooperation with the renowned art fair. At
the same time, the BMW Art Car that formed the basis for this tribute
will also be on display in South Africa for the first time in over 30
years as part of the exhibition hosted by the Iziko Museums of South
Africa and the BMW Group in Cape Town “Then I Knew I Was Good at
Painting”: Esther Mahlangu. A Retrospective. The exhibition,
which runs until 11 August 2024, honours the life’s work of one of
South Africa’s most influential artists and cultural ambassadors.

In Los Angeles, BMW will once again be presenting Frieze Music
in collaboration with Frieze. Since 2019, the joint initiative between
the two partners has brought together a large group of musicians at
the intersection of music and art. The event’s return to Los Angeles
will be celebrated on 29 February with a live performance by Sudan
Archives at the Hammer Museum.

The BMW 5 Series Touring, the epitome of driving pleasure, sporty
elegance and modern functionality in the premium upper mid-range
segment, is entering a new era. The sixth generation of the BMW 5
Series Touring is more progressive than ever, featuring numerous
digital innovations, pioneering systems for automated driving and
parking, increased sustainability throughout the entire product life
cycle and, for the first time, an all-electric drive in the form of
the BMW i5 Touring. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is a sophisticated
all-rounder for everyday driving and touring, offering stylish
presence, superior sportiness, versatility and spacious comfort.

A flexible drive architecture allows model variants with highly
efficient petrol and diesel engines, plug-in hybrid systems and purely
electric drive systems to be produced on a single production line at
the BMW Group's Dingolfing plant. The launch in Germany, many other
European countries and Japan will begin in May 2024, with other
markets to follow in June 2024.

Stretched proportions, strong front, individual rear.

Dynamically stretched proportions and generously designed surfaces
characterise the exterior of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. Compared to
its predecessor, the new BMW 5 Series Touring is 97 millimetres longer
(5,060 millimetres), 32 millimetres wider (1,900 millimetres) and
17 millimetres higher (1,515 millimetres). The new BMW 5 Series
Touring has the longest wheelbase in its class, increasing by
20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres.

The distinctive front end features a modern interpretation of the
hallmark twin headlights and BMW grille. Two almost vertical LED
elements serve as direction indicators and daytime running lights
respectively. The BMW grille, which projects far forward, features
optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. In the side view, the flat
window graphics and the long roof spoiler emphasise the sporty,
elegant 2-box design. Powerfully sculpted rear wheel arches, together
with the flat rear window, emphasise the car's wide stature. An
L-shaped chrome bar divides the LED rear light elements, which extend
well into the side sections.

The range of paintwork includes three BMW Individual paint finishes.
The standard equipment of the new includes light alloy wheels in
18-inch and 19-inch sizes for the all-electric and the plug-in hybrid
models. Up to 21-inch alloy wheels are available as an option. The
dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Touring can be further
emphasised with the M Sport Package, M Sport Package Pro and M Carbon
Exterior Package options. As the top model in the series, the BMW i5
M60 xDrive Touring (combined power consumption: 20.8 - 18.3 kWh/100 km
(62 miles) according to WLTP) comes as standard with exterior
components that clearly express its outstanding driving dynamics.

Progressively designed cockpit, fully vegan interior.

At the heart of the progressive, driver-oriented cockpit design is
the BMW Curved Display. Its 12.3-inch Information Display and the
Control Display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches form a fully
digital display network. The modern premium ambience in the interior
is further enhanced by the new sports seats fitted as standard, the
steering wheel, which is now flatter at the bottom, and the optional
BMW Interaction Bar.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring has a completely vegan interior as
standard. The seat surfaces in the Veganza version are also optionally
available with a decorative perforation. Further optional equipment
includes BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in several bi-colour
variants. Other highlights of the optional equipment programme include
the panoramic glass roof and the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound
System with up to 18 loudspeakers.

Optimised functionality for everyday use, leisure and travel.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring offers more space and noticeably more
leg, shoulder and elbow room, especially in the rear, as well as
optimised acoustic comfort. With its versatile interior and numerous
intelligent functions, the new BMW 5 Series Touring is just as
impressive on the road as it is in everyday use.

A wider luggage compartment opening combined with a low sill makes it
easy to stow large items of luggage. Regardless of their drive
technology, all variants of the new BMW 5 Series Touring have a
luggage compartment volume that can be expanded from 570 to up to
1,700 litres. In addition to the automatic tailgate operation, remote
unlocking of the 40 : 20 : 40 split rear seat backrest from the
luggage compartment is also standard. Storage compartments under the
load compartment floor provide space for the luggage compartment
partition net, luggage compartment cover and charging cable for the
all-electric and plug-in hybrid models.

All-electric BMW i5 Touring available in two variants from the start.

The new BMW i5 Touring is the first all-electric premium model in its
competitive field. It will be available in two versions from the
outset. In the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring, two highly integrated drive
units on the front and rear axles together form an electric all-wheel
drive with up to 442 kW/601 hp. With M Launch Control or M Sport Boost
activated, the system torque is increased to 820 Nm (605 ft-lb). The
top model accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in
3.9 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h
(143 mph). The electric motor of the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring is
located on the rear axle (combined power consumption according to
WLTP: 19.3 to 16.5 kWh/100 km (62 miles)) and generates a maximum
output of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque of up to 430 Nm (317
ft-lb) with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The BMW i5
eDrive40 Touring accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.1 seconds.

In both models, the high-voltage battery located in the underbody
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, adaptive recuperation and heat pump
technology for heating and cooling the interior, drive and
high-voltage battery contribute to the long-distance capability of the
BMW i5 Touring. The range determined in the WLTP test procedure is 445
to 506 kilometres (277 to 314 miles) for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring
and 483 to 560 kilometres (300 to 348 miles) for the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring.

Innovative charging solutions from BMW Charging.

The battery can be charged with alternating current with an output of
up to 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW as an option. The high-voltage
battery can be charged with direct current with a power of up to 205
kW. Anticipatory thermal management for the high-voltage battery
optimises efficiency when using fast-charging stations. Connected Home
Charging for the all-electric and plug-in hybrid models creates the
conditions for solar and load-optimised as well as cost-optimised
charging. The BMW i5 Touring is also suitable for the Plug &
Charge Multi Contract function.

New diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

All diesel engines available for the new BMW 5 Series Touring are
combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology and an 8-speed Steptronic
transmission. The four-cylinder engine of the BMW 520d Touring models
available at market launch (combined fuel consumption: 5.9 - 5.3 l/
100 km (62 miles); CO2 emissions:
154 - 141 g/km
according to WLTP) and BMW 520d xDrive Touring (combined fuel
consumption: 6.2 - 5.7 l/ 100 km (62 miles); CO2 emissions:
163 - 149 g/ according to WLTP) generates a maximum output of 145
kW/197 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). The drive
portfolio will be supplemented by an in-line six-cylinder diesel
engine in summer 2024. At the same time, two model variants with the
latest generation of plug-in hybrid drive will follow.

The ideal balance between sportiness and travelling comfort.

Driving pleasure in the new BMW 5 Series Touring is based on an ideal
balance between sportiness and travelling comfort. With the longest
wheelbase in the competitive segment, large track widths, an almost
perfectly balanced 50 : 50 axle load distribution, intelligent
lightweight construction and optimised rigidity of the body-chassis
connection, it offers the ideal conditions for this. The extensively
enhanced suspension technology includes sport steering, directly
controlled wheel slip limitation and the latest version of the
integrated braking system as standard. The BMW i5 Touring and the
plug-in hybrid models also feature rear-axle air suspension including
automatic self-levelling.

An M Sport Suspension, an M sport braking system and the Adaptive
Chassis Professional (standard in the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring) with
electronically controlled shock absorbers, Integral Active Steering
and new lateral dynamics management are available as optional
equipment. The Adaptive M Chassis Professional with Active Roll
Stabilisation and Active Roll Comfort is also available for the top model.

Innovative systems for automated driving and parking.

The systems for semi-automated driving and parking available as
standard or as an option for the new BMW 5 Series Touring set
standards in the competitive environment with their range of functions
reliability and everyday benefits. The highlight of the range is the
optional Driving Assistant Professional including Steering and Lane
Control Assist and Distance Control with Stop & Go function. In
the US, Canada and Germany, the Highway Assistant is available, which
relieves the driver of steering tasks on highways with structurally
separated directional lanes. At driving speeds of up to 130 km/h (85
mph) it is possible to take your hands off the steering wheel and
position them comfortably as long as you keep a close eye on the
traffic. The system also includes the unique Active Lane Change
Assistant with eye activation.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring features the Parking Assistant including
start monitoring, Trailer Assistant and Reversing Assist Camera as
standard. With the optional Parking Assistant Professional, automated
parking and manoeuvring up to 200 metres can be controlled from
outside the car using a smartphone.

BMW iDrive with "QuickSelect", video streaming,
AirConsole games.

The enhanced BMW iDrive display and operating system based on BMW
Operating System 8.5 offers a redesigned home screen and the
"QuickSelect" quick access function. The combination of the
BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is
consistently designed for touchscreen and natural language operation.
The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes the cloud-based navigation
system BMW Maps. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional option includes the
BMW Head-Up Display and an augmented view on the Control Display or
the instrument cluster.

The infotainment system in the new BMW 5 Series Touring is
complemented by a range of attractive digital services. The Connected
Package Professional offers a choice of YouTube and the Video app with
international and country-specific content for streaming video on the
Control Display. The new BMW iDrive also enables the use of an
innovative form of in-car gaming with the AirConsole platform.

The new BMW 5 Series Touring is equipped with two 5G mobile phone
antennas as standard and four as an option. This ensures optimum
reception for telephony and online services. The standard equipment
also includes optimised smartphone integration via Apple
CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The standard Personal eSIM
fully integrates the vehicle into the customer's digital ecosystem.
With the Remote Software Upgrades function, the new BMW 5 Series
Touring always stays up to date with the latest software. It is also
possible to test and rebook selected functions in the BMW
ConnectedDrive Store.

Press Contact: Kimberley Ng
Tel: +6568389532
E-mail: kimberley.ng@ctt.yespaygroup.com

Press Kit,5 Series,Touring,i5,G61,Product,BMW

Singapore.
BMW Asia today launched the all-new BMW 5
Series Sedan, a car that is more dynamic than ever, featuring a wealth
of digital innovations and for the first time, all-electric drive. As
the first-ever BMW i5 Sedan, the new edition of the world's most
successful business sedan takes the lead on the road to sustainable
premium mobility in the upper mid-range vehicle segment. Consistent
electrification, advanced BMW Curved Display and control system with
“QuickSelect”, new digital services, and increased sustainability
throughout the entire product life cycle characterise the progress
made in the fields of the future, which are centrally important in the
current transformation of the BMW Group.

The new model generation will be offered in Singapore with
all-electric drive and highly efficient petrol engine with 48-volt
mild hybrid technology. Like all previous model generations, the
all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is produced at the BMW Group Plant
Dingolfing, where the electric motors and high-voltage batteries for
the first-ever BMW i5 Sedan are also manufactured.

"The BMW 5 Series is a car that needs no introduction, and the
numbers speak for themselves – in the past 15 years, we have sold more
than 16,000 units in Singapore,” said Lars Nielsen, Managing Director,
BMW Group Asia. “The feeling of empowerment that the car exudes is
addictive and inspiring at the same time. This is an experience that
our customers crave for and can expect every time they get behind the wheel.”

“That is not all. With the introduction of the BMW i5, BMW Group
Asia’s EV portfolio in Singapore has now grown to seven models in four
body types that cater to all lifestyles from Gran Coupés and Sedans to
Sports Activity Vehicles and a 3-Door Hatch. We are confident that
regardless of the drivetrain, the BMW 5 Series delivers power, focus
and direction – key attributes that define those who work to move the
world forward,” added Nielsen.

Launch Edition.

A total of 20 units of the all-new BMW 520i and first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40 (10 units per variant) are available in Launch Edition guise
for customers to purchase in Singapore. The cars’ interior and
exterior trims, kidney grille and 20-inch wheels are exclusively
finished in Titanium Bronze. These exquisite detailing add a touch of
flair like no other and further enhance the executive sedan’s poise
and appeal.

Sporty elegance and striking presence with a new design language.

A clear and reduced design language emphasises the all-new 5 Series
Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor
model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres to 5,060
millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres to 1,900 millimetres and in
height by 36 millimetres to 1,515 millimetres. Its wheelbase was
lengthened by 20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres.

The front view of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by
a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille.
LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and
daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far
forward, features a wide surround and BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.

In the side view, the high shoulder line, powerfully designed
surfaces and two precisely traced character lines shape the vehicle’s
athletic body. Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers and an
embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar are further
eye-catchers. The dynamically stretched proportions flow into a
powerful rear end. Flat rear lights divided by a chrome strip
interpret the hallmark L-shape expressively.

Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative
flair.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers ideal conditions for enjoying
hallmark BMW driving pleasure in everyday traffic and a high level of
comfort on long-distance journeys. Generous space, modern
functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as
high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and
advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior.

The cockpit of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan has a significantly
reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor
model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The
BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver
orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch
Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering
wheel has also been redesigned with a flattened lower section and
haptic feedback on the control panels, and the selector lever on the
centre console. The BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The
effectively backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure
extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the
door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.

A first at BMW: Fully vegan interior.

Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional
comfort seats offer a wider range of electrically operated adjustment
options. The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to
feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces
of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the
steering wheel (except M Sport models) for the first time. The seat
surfaces in the Veganza version with leather-like properties are also
optionally available with a decorative perforation. Further optional
equipment includes BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in several
bicolour variants.

BMW i5 eDrive40: Advanced BMW eDrive technology, traditional
rear-wheel drive.

The all-electric BMW i5 Sedan is equipped with extensively enhanced
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. The first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40’s electric motor drives the rear wheels and generates a
maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque of up to 400 Nm
with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, its top
speed is 193 km/h.

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
long range. The WLTP values are 497 - 582 kilometres for the
first-ever BMW i5 eDrive40. With the new MAX RANGE function, the range
can be increased by up to 25 percent if required by limiting power and
speed and deactivating comfort functions.

Innovative eCharging solutions from BMW Charging.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the first-ever BMW i5 Sedan
enables AC charging with an output of up to 11 kW. The high-voltage
battery can be charged with direct current with a power of up to 205
kW. For example, the battery charge level in the first-ever BMW i5
Sedan can be raised from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

Charging in Singapore.

To make electromobility simple and straightforward for customers, BMW
Asia has been collaborating with Greenlots, a member of the Shell
Group, since 2014, to provide home and public charging options for
customers in Singapore.

Today, BMW Asia continues this partnership by offering BMW i
customers either a comprehensive home or public charging package under
the Shell Recharge banner:

For home charging, customers will receive a wall-mounted AC
charger with complimentary installation service.

For public charging, customers will receive a subscription package
of 10,000 kWh over 3 years at Shell Recharge stations with no
monthly cap for charging. This is equivalent to 50,000 km of driving
range (assuming average energy consumption at 20kWh/100km).

The wall-mounted AC charger provides a fast way to charge their
vehicle at a rate of up to 11kW. Once the vehicle is plugged in,
charging begins and will end automatically when the battery is fully
charged or has reached the pre-determined level. In addition, BMW i
models are compatible with all Type 2 public charging stations that
are widely available across the island.

BMW Charging gives drivers access to one of the largest networks of
public charging stations located in various office buildings, shopping
malls, hotels and industrial parks in Singapore. Activation of and
payment for the chargers can be done through an RFID card or the Shell
Recharge smartphone app.

New petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The petrol engine from the new modular generation of BMW Group
Efficient Dynamics engines will be offered in Singapore. The all-new
BMW 520i now features 48-volt mild hybrid technology and is combined
with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.

Unique balance between driving dynamics and travel comfort.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan's characteristic balance between
maximum sportiness and high-level long-distance comfort is enhanced
once again in the new edition. The longest wheelbase in the executive
sedan segment, increased track widths at the front and rear axles, an
almost perfectly balanced 50 : 50 ratio axle load distribution,
intelligent lightweight construction and increased body and chassis
connection rigidity contribute to this.

The extensively advanced chassis technology, like the control
systems, has been model-specifically adapted to the weight balance
associated with the respective drive technology. It includes directly
controlled wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system and sport
steering with variable steering ratio as standard. M Sport models get
a lower and sportier suspension system. Light alloy wheels in 19-inch
or 20-inch sizes are standard equipment. Light-alloy wheels up to a
size of 21 inches and performance tyres are offered as options.

Parking Assistant Plus including Reversing Assistant as standard.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is equipped with Parking Assistant
Plus that includes the Parking View, Panorama View front and 3D View
functions. This shows a 360-degree image of the all-new BMW 5 Series
Sedan and its surroundings from different perspectives on the Control
Display. In addition, the Remote 3D View function allows drivers to
view a three-dimensional live image of the vehicle and its
surroundings transmitted to their smartphone (available for Apple
iPhone from operating system iOS 16.2). With the optional Parking
Assistant Professional, automated parking and manoeuvring of up to 200
metres can be controlled in the vehicle or by smartphone outside the vehicle.

Intuitive operation and new digital experiences: BMW iDrive
with "QuickSelect" and BMW Operating System 8.5.

The enhanced BMW Curved Display and control system with
"QuickSelect" also contributes to the characteristic driving
and travelling experience in the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan. It is
based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a redesigned home
screen with vertically arranged function icons on the driver’s side.
“QuickSelect” enables functions to be accessed directly without having
to switch to a submenu. This means that the system has received an
improved menu structure, oriented towards devices from the consumer
electronics sector.

The new BMW iDrive is also combined with the BMW Curved Display and
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It is consistently designed to
be operated by means of a touch display and natural language. In
addition, the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan also features steering wheel
buttons and the BMW iDrive Controller on the centre console. The BMW
Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up Display and
Augmented View on the Control Display or instrument cluster. The
standard BMW Natural Interaction is also available for controlling
functions using gestures.

Other innovations include the Welcome Scenario with light show and
personal welcome, which optionally also includes the dynamic light
carpet. The BMW Digital Key Plus is now available for suitable
smartphones with the iOS or Android operating systems as well as for
the Apple Watch.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers a choice of up to six My Modes
to deliver an all-immersive vehicle experience. The standard equipment
also includes optimised smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and
Android Auto™. With the Remote Software Upgrades function, the vehicle
always stays up to date with the latest software. With BMW
ConnectedDrive Upgrades, customers can also test selected functions
free of charge for a period of one month and then book them for a
specific term.

Proactive Care: New service promise characterised by digitalisation.

The market launch of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan also marks the
beginning of a new chapter in the field of customer service. With
Proactive Care, the focus is on recognising the vehicle's service
needs also by using artificial intelligence and proactively offering
solutions to the customer without them having to take action themselves.

This is not the first time that BMW has taken on a pioneering role in
the use of digital technology to optimise customer service. With BMW
TeleServices, customers have already been benefiting for many years
from the fact that service-relevant data is transmitted directly from
the vehicle to the BMW dealer. It is also possible to arrange service
appointments online in this way via the My BMW app or dealer’s
channel. With Proactive Care, BMW is now going one step further. From
Condition Based Service to accident detection
[1] as part of
the automatic emergency call, the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan features
numerous options for identifying servicing or assistance needs and
reporting them to BMW according to the customer’s preferences. As soon
as this happens, BMW contacts the customer and proposes a suitable
solution, which is then carried out using the suitable channel
depending on the urgency. In case of the vehicle needs servicing
urgently while on the road, the customer receives suggestions for a
visit to a nearby dealership.

Depending on the type of service required, communication takes place
via different channels: with an in-car message on the Control Display,
a message in the My BMW app, by e-mail or - in the event of a
collision or breakdown - by means of a Roadside Assistance call.
Proactive Care offers the customer various types of services. This
includes remote diagnosis with possible problem solving via software
update as well as online appointment scheduling or the personalised
service video including online payment processing[2] (the scope of service of
"Proactive Care" may vary depending on the country of
delivery) In the event of a breakdown, BMW will activate Mobile
Service or a tow truck and inform the customer in advance when
assistance will arrive. Customers are strongly encouraged to connect
their My BMW app to their vehicle to enjoy the full benefits of BMW
Proactive Care.

The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will begin in October
2023. The new model generation will be offered worldwide with
all-electric drive and, depending on the market region, also with
plug-in hybrid systems as well as with highly efficient petrol and
diesel engines including 48-volt mild hybrid technology. Like all
previous model generations, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is produced at
the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, where the electric motors and
high-voltage batteries for the BMW i5 are also manufactured.

Sporty elegance and striking presence with a new design language.

A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series
Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor
model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres to
5,060 millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres to 1,900 millimetres and
in height by 36 millimetres to 1,515 millimetres. Its wheelbase was
lengthened by 20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres.

The front view of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by a
modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille.
LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and
daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far
forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.

The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be further
enhanced with the optional M Sport Package, the M Sport Package Pro
and the M Carbon exterior package. The range of paintwork already
includes three BMW Individual paint finishes at market launch.

Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative flair.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers ideal conditions for enjoying
hallmark BMW driving pleasure in everyday traffic and a high level of
comfort on long-distance journeys. Generous space, modern
functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as
high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and
advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior.

The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced
number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This
is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved
Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation.
The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information
Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also
been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on
the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The
optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively
backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends
across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door
panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.

A first at BMW: Fully vegan interior.

Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional
comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment
options. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to
feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces
of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the
steering wheel for the first time. The seat surfaces in the Veganza
version with leather-like properties are also optionally available
with a decorative perforation. Further optional equipment includes BMW
Individual Merino leather upholstery in several bicolour variants.

All-electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive as the top model.

The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two
variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive (combined power consumption according
to WLTP: 20.6 - 18.2 kWh/100 km (62 miles)), which combines an up to
442 kW/601 hp drive with hallmark M performance and specific design
features. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear
axles make up an electric all-wheel drive. The system torque generated
is up to 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control
function is activated. This enables the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from
zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, its top speed is
electrically limited to 230 km/h (143 mph).

The BMW i5 eDrive40 (combined power consumption according to WLTP:
18.9 - 15.9 kWh/100 km (62 mph)) is also available. Its electric motor
drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp
and a maximum torque of up to 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) with Sport Boost or
Launch Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from zero to
100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, its top speed is
193 km/h (120 mph).

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
long range. The respective WLTP values are 455 - 516 kilometres (282 -
320 miles) for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive and 497 - 582 kilometres (309 -
361 miles) for the BMW i5 eDrive40. With the new MAX RANGE function,
the range can be increased by up to 25 percent if required by limiting
power and speed and deactivating comfort functions.

Innovative eCharging solutions from BMW Charging.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the BMW i5 enables AC charging
with an output of up to 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW as an
option. The high-voltage battery can be charged with direct current
with a power of up to 205 kW. For example, the battery charge level in
the BMW i5 can be raised from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

The new Connected Home Charging is offered for the BMW i5 as well as
for the plug-in hybrid models. It creates the conditions for solar and
load-optimised charging (stage 1) and for cost-optimised charging
based on a dynamic electricity tariff contract (stage 2, from 2024).
In addition, the offer of BMW Charging and its strategic cooperation
partner E.ON lays the foundations for networking with the energy
market through bidirectional charging in future generations of
vehicles. The all-electric models in the new BMW 5 Series are also the
first BMW vehicles of the brand to be suitable for use with the Plug
& Charge function. This enables the vehicle to authenticate itself
automatically at compatible public charging stations without having to
use an app or charging card.
A unique feature is the Multi
Contract Option, which allows customers to digitally store up to five
individual Plug & Charge-enabled power contracts from different
providers in the vehicle.

New petrol and diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

Petrol and diesel engines from the new modular generation of BMW
Group Efficient Dynamics engines will be offered in a market-specific
selection. They now feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology throughout
and are combined with a new 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard.

In Europe, the market launch will see the four-cylinder BMW 520i
Sedan models (fuel consumption combined: 6.4 - 5.7 l/100 km (62
miles); CO2 emissions: 144 - 130 g/km according to WLTP)
with 153 kW/208 hp, the BMW 520d Sedan (combined fuel consumption:
5.6 - 5.1 l/100 km (62 miles); CO2 emissions:
147 - 133 g/km according to WLTP,) and the BMW 520d xDrive Sedan
(combined fuel consumption: 6.0 - 5.5 l/ 100 km (62 miles);
CO2 emissions: 157 - 143 g/km according to WLTP) with 145
kW/197 hp each. Other petrol engines with four and six cylinders are
available outside Europe. The model range will be supplemented in
spring 2024 by two variants with plug-in hybrid drives of the latest
generation. A new in-line six-cylinder diesel engine will be available
for the BMW 5 Series Sedan from 2024. Another variant of the BMW i5
with electric all-wheel drive will also follow in the course of 2024.

Unique balance between driving dynamics and travel comfort.

The BMW 5 Series Sedan's characteristic balance between maximum
sportiness and high-level long-distance comfort is enhanced once again
in the new edition. The longest wheelbase in the upper mid-range
vehicle segment, increased track widths at the front and rear axles,
an almost perfectly balanced 50 : 50 ratio axle load distribution,
intelligent lightweight construction and increased body and chassis
connection rigidity contribute to this.

The extensively advanced chassis technology, like the control
systems, has been model-specifically adapted to the weight balance
associated with the respective drive technology. It includes directly
controlled wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system and sport
steering with variable steering ratio as standard. An M sport
suspension, an M sport brake system and the Adaptive Suspension
Professional (standard in the BMW i5 M60 xDrive) with electronically
controlled shock absorbers, Integral Active Steering and new vertical dynamics management are available as
options. The optional Adaptive M Suspension Professional also includes
Active Roll Stabilisation with Active Roll Comfort. Light alloy wheels
in 18-inch or 19-inch sizes (BMW i5 and plug-in hybrid models) are
standard equipment. Light-alloy wheels up to a size of 21 inches and
performance tyres are offered as options.

Intense partially automated driving experience: New Highway
Assistant, unique Active Lane Change Assistant.

A significantly expanded range of systems for partially automated
driving and parking is available as standard or as an option for the
new BMW 5 Series Sedan. An innovative technology kit creates the
conditions for their outstanding functionality.

The highlight of the range is the optional Driving Assistant
Professional including Steering and Lane Control Assist and Distance
Control with Stop & Go function. In the automotive markets in the
US and Canada, as well as in Germany, it includes the Highway
Assistant, which relieves the driver of steering tasks on highways
with structurally separated directional lanes. At driving speeds of up
to 130 km/h (85 mph), it is possible to take your hands off the
steering wheel and position them comfortably as long as you keep a
close eye on the traffic. As a world first, the system in the new BMW
5 Series now also includes the Active Lane Change Assistant with eye
confirmation. This comfort feature now achieves a new level of
interaction between the driver and the vehicle. The vehicle suggests a
lane change and this can be carried out for the first time by looking
in the exterior mirror to confirm the lane change. The Active Lane
Change Assistant takes over the necessary steering movements
automatically, the traffic situation permitting.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is equipped with Parking Assistant,
including Reversing Assist, as standard.

The enhanced BMW Curved Display and control system with
"QuickSelect" also contributes to the characteristic driving
and travelling experience in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. It is based
on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a redesigned home screen
with vertically arranged function icons on the driver's side.
"QuickSelect” enables functions to be accessed directly without
having to switch to a submenu. This means that the system has received
an improved menu structure, oriented towards devices from the consumer
electronics sector.

The new BMW iDrive is also combined with the BMW Curved Display and
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It is consistently designed to
be operated by means of a touch display and natural language. In
addition, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan also features steering wheel
buttons and the BMW iDrive Controller on the centre console. The
optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up
Display and Augmented View on the Control Display or instrument
cluster. The BMW Natural Interaction option is also available for
controlling functions using gestures.

In-car gaming premieres in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

In addition, BMW Operating System 8.5 offers a wider range of digital
content for information and entertainment, faster update cycles for
functions, improved information on charging points for electric
vehicles and optimised access to many specific online services. For
video streaming on the Control Display, there is a choice of YouTube
and the Bundesliga In-Car app in cooperation with Xperi, as well as
numerous aggregated contents on the TiVo platform.

In addition, the new BMW iDrive enables the use of an innovative form
of in-car gaming with the AirConsole platform, presented for the first
time in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. Drivers and passengers can play
so-called casual games while the vehicle is stationary, for example to
bridge waiting times while charging the high-voltage battery of the
BMW i5.

Optimised networking with up to four 5G mobile radio antennas.

Other innovations include the Welcome Scenario with light show and
personal welcome, which optionally also includes the dynamic light
carpet. The BMW Digital Key Plus is now available for suitable
smartphones with the iOS or Android operating systems as well as for
the Apple Watch. With two 5G mobile phone antennas as standard and
four as an option, the new business sedan provides optimised
connectivity and phone quality. The Personal eSIM fully integrates the
vehicle into the customer's digital ecosystem. In selected countries,
the BMW ID enables automatic payment of parking fees from the vehicle.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers a choice of up to six My Modes to
deliver an all-immersive vehicle experience.

The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan marks the beginning
of a new chapter in the field of customer service. With Proactive
Care, BMW is creating a new platform for exchanges with customers when
different types of car servicing is required. The focus is on
recognising the vehicle's service needs also by using artificial
intelligence and proactively offering solutions to the customer.

Press Contact: Amanda Poh
Tel: +65-6838-9629
E-mail: amanda.poh@bmwasia.com

Press Kit,Sedan,BMW i,5 Series,G60,i5,550e,i5 M60,Product,BMW
